- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics in healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balanced Life Careropractic and we have doctor Harley with us.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Hello, doctor Harley.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Hey, how's it going?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Very good? This is one of those for some people
- 0:09Speaker 1: a short week because you know, Monday, with Memorial Day,
- 0:12Speaker 1: they had the day off, so then they come to
- 0:13Speaker 1: work on Tuesday and it feels like a Monday, and
- 0:15Speaker 1: today kind of feels like a Tuesday. But the good
- 0:17Speaker 1: news is we'll be back on track. And it's kind
- 0:20Speaker 1: of the unofficial kickoff to the summer, isn't it.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's usually how Memorial weekend is. It's the unofficial
- 0:25Speaker 2: you know, summer cookouts and all that. Yeah, so I'm
- 0:27Speaker 2: on a short week this week as well.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's crazy. It's like, yeah, tomorrow's my last day in
- 0:31Speaker 3: the week already.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And we're going to talk today about pain, which you know,
- 0:34Speaker 1: again that's that's never something fun to talk about, but
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's important to talk about, right.
- 0:39Speaker 2: You know, we always seem to have something going on,
- 0:41Speaker 2: little aches and pains here. Maybe sometimes they become big pains,
- 0:45Speaker 2: but there's different types of pain, and we'll look at
- 0:48Speaker 2: what is someone's asking, like, you know, this hurts, what's
- 0:51Speaker 2: going on why is this hurting?
- 0:53Speaker 3: What can I be doing? So talking about that and so.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Kind of the most common pains I think people really
- 0:59Speaker 3: really notice is like muscular pain. It's kind of like
- 1:01Speaker 3: achy or sore.
- 1:03Speaker 2: You know, if you were just working out yesterday or
- 1:05Speaker 2: if you were in the garden all weekend and you're
- 1:08Speaker 2: feeling that, you know, that's probably what's going on. Is
- 1:10Speaker 2: you've work those muscles a little bit more than what
- 1:12Speaker 2: they're used to, so they're gonna be a little.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Sore, achey, stiff.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Those are kind of more what we associate with more
- 1:18Speaker 2: of the muscle side of things, or just feeling tight.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And that's where like, you know, heat's really good for
- 1:23Speaker 2: muscles when they're really tight, and like that's so taking
- 1:25Speaker 2: a hot shower or a hot bath, you would like
- 1:28Speaker 2: throwing some ebbs and salt in there, stretching, all those
- 1:32Speaker 2: things are really good that.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Are gonna help with the muscle aches and pains.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Obviously, if this is happening a lot where you're it
- 1:38Speaker 2: doesn't seem like you're hardly doing anything, it could be
- 1:40Speaker 2: that your muscles are working too hard or they're overworking
- 1:44Speaker 2: because something somewhere else is not working, like.
- 1:46Speaker 3: It's supposed to.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So that's what it's a good idea to go see
- 1:48Speaker 2: a chiropractor. Things aren't moving, Your joints aren't moving as
- 1:51Speaker 2: efficient as as they should, and that's gonna cause your
- 1:54Speaker 2: muscles to have to work harder and be more sore, achey, stiff.
- 1:57Speaker 3: So that's a good time to see a chiropractor.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And what we're talking about pain. Sometimes we feel the
- 2:01Speaker 1: pain in one place, but the cause of the pain
- 2:03Speaker 1: is far far away and we don't even realize. Oh,
- 2:06Speaker 1: but it hurts here. Yeah, it hurts here because you're
- 2:08Speaker 1: shifted this way and all of these things that need
- 2:11Speaker 1: to be fixed in order for that one little pain
- 2:13Speaker 1: that in the one little spot.
- 2:14Speaker 3: To go away.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, we talked about compensating pain.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Our body is very biomechanically mechanically sound, is very efficient,
- 2:20Speaker 2: and so when one area is not working like it's
- 2:23Speaker 2: supposed to, it's going to put stress and strain on
- 2:25Speaker 2: the areas around that spot, and that's where you're probably
- 2:28Speaker 2: going to notice the pain more. I think of like knees,
- 2:30Speaker 2: for example, The problem might not actually be your knee.
- 2:34Speaker 2: It could be that your hips are out of alignment
- 2:36Speaker 2: and your hips aren't moving very well, and that's putting
- 2:38Speaker 2: more work on your knee, and that's causing your knee
- 2:40Speaker 2: to break down and start having those issues. So sometimes
- 2:43Speaker 2: a simple air quote simple fix for knee pain is,
- 2:47Speaker 2: you know work is getting your hips adjusted.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And I remember hearing from a chiropractor thirty years ago
- 2:53Speaker 1: to not put my wallet in my back pocket. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: I remember thinking that was a crazy thing that I
- 2:58Speaker 1: ever heard of, because I always put my wallet back here.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But he's talking about siatic nerves and issues that people have.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So then when you're sitting, you're up higher, and then
- 3:06Speaker 1: you have your back twisted a little. So now in
- 3:07Speaker 1: my pocket right up front, that's where I've got my
- 3:10Speaker 1: wallet all the time. I can't believe what a difference
- 3:12Speaker 1: something as simple as moving your wallet makes, right, Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 3: It's sometimes it seems like such simple fixes.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But even if you have one hundred dollar bills or
- 3:19Speaker 2: one dollar bills in that wallet, thicker thin, even that
- 3:22Speaker 2: little bit of you know, height difference is.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Going to throw your hips off.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I'm just filled with coupons, you.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Know, whatever it takes, whatever is in your wallet, yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 2: make sure to if you're sitting, take it out of
- 3:34Speaker 2: your back pocket because that's going to affect your hips.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And it also where that wallet sits in your back
- 3:40Speaker 2: pocket is going to run right over the par offormance muscle,
- 3:43Speaker 2: which if you've ever had said a cut, you've gone
- 3:45Speaker 2: to somebody like, oh, your paraformance.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Muscles really tight.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that guy sits right over top of that
- 3:50Speaker 2: siatic nerve that runs down your backside, and so that
- 3:53Speaker 2: wallet's gonna put pressure right into that par offormous muscle.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So, I guess what we're talking about today with pain.
- 3:59Speaker 1: If you're feeling a pain in one place, it might
- 4:02Speaker 1: actually be from a pain from somewhere else that maybe
- 4:04Speaker 1: you're not feeling as much. But this is a good
- 4:06Speaker 1: question to ask your chiropractor, And if you don't have one,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I encourage it to ask this chiropractor, doctor Harley, how
- 4:11Speaker 1: do they get in touch with you.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're having aches or pains, it's never a
- 4:15Speaker 2: good idea just to ignore it and be like, oh,
- 4:17Speaker 2: it's gonna be fine, it's gonna go.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Away, I'm gonna walk it off.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Well, that simple problem that you're having now that could
- 4:22Speaker 2: be an easy fix, is gonna start getting worse as
- 4:25Speaker 2: we get older.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Unfortunately, people we don't get younger.
- 4:27Speaker 2: As we age, things start breaking down faster, so it's
- 4:31Speaker 2: important to go and do things about it now versus
- 4:34Speaker 2: wait for it to get worse. So it's a good
- 4:36Speaker 2: time to start seeing a chiropractor when you start having
- 4:38Speaker 2: those aches and pains, so you can.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Give us a call at six zero five two one
