- 0:46And welcome back to the Boundary Corner podcast with my partners
- 0:49Brian Siegel and Jonathan Talley.
- 0:51I am Curtis Wilson and this episode is brought to you by
- 0:55Doctor Jeremy Counts at the Main Street Pharmacy, your friendly
- 0:59neighborhood pharmacy located at 301 S Main St. in Blacksburg.
- 1:04Hey, I see. Y'all again.
- 1:07What up, man? Y'all, y'all dried off yet?
- 1:11No, he's still with So boys, first of all, regardless of out
- 1:18coming again, we gonna get into that.
- 1:20Don't worry. We got a lot of notes, we got a
- 1:22lot of statements we want to make on that.
- 1:24But this weekend, effectively, the entire crew was there.
- 1:30Tally drove up from Bama, me and Siegel kicked in from Richmond,
- 1:33swung by rolling out, picked up by music man Jason.
- 1:37And then we effectively, we got, we got up with Sheldon.
- 1:42Sheldon's not here tonight. He's working hard, young man,
- 1:44working, making his career. And then finally, we got out
- 1:47with Jeremy. We broke bread.
- 1:50We spilled drinks. We told lies, he told stories,
- 1:55and then we went through one of the most insane games I've ever
- 1:59been a part of. Definitely was a.
- 2:04It definitely was an experience. I've never been a part of a game
- 2:10that was delayed like that. I've had my pull them off the
- 2:17field for 1/2 hour, get back out there and do it again.
- 2:20I've I've been a part of those. I have not been a part of over
- 2:24what, 5 1/2 hour delay due to weather.
- 2:30Yeah, don't forget that sideways rain and the hail and the tents
- 2:35getting flipped upside down and twisted like pretzels as well.
- 2:38How many like a day of 10 graveyard scoreboard got hit
- 2:42with the lightning salt salt back salt Lightning hit back
- 2:46down near near the airport. I mean it was some what are you
- 2:49talking about lightning hit there in Lot 2?
- 2:52Yeah, we were on South side, the South end zone side, and
- 2:56literally the lightning struck directly in South dude.
- 2:58By the way, for those who are in South end zone, we might have
- 3:01been in the absolute South end zone.
- 3:03Top floor was probably the absolute worst spot to wait out
- 3:08that storm in Callie was smart. Callie went down one floor.
- 3:14We went down there about 45 minutes too late with the rough
- 3:17stuff that already went through. I was trying to get gone.
- 3:21As soon as I seen that rain start coming sideways, I was
- 3:24like we too high, we are too. High we too high up, way too
- 3:29high up and and again like Brian said, five and a half hour
- 3:32delay, we waited it out. I mean, I'll say this, I've
- 3:38never had when we came back. I've never said that good at any
- 3:43sporting event in my life, in my life.
- 3:46And if y'all wondered how close I I should have sent the picture
- 3:49and let Brian put it up, we could see Chris Mars nose hairs.
- 3:54Yeah, that's how close we were. Could have leaned over and
- 3:57touched the field. Could have shout out give give
- 4:02our two guys a shout out on that who we ran into him at the
- 4:05Beamer Barn and they said they they told us hey we get this
- 4:12thing going, y'all come back with us.
- 4:15It was awesome thing. It was awesome.
- 4:17It was awesome. Time we got to sit with some of
- 4:18the parents. Of the of the players, you know,
- 4:23being right there behind the defensive huddle.
- 4:28For the most part, every time they came off the field they sit
- 4:31right in front of us. I was ear hustling the whole
- 4:34time, listening at what they needed to work on.
- 4:37Another experience is like the bike was right in front of us as
- 4:41well. Like every player that went and
- 4:44sit on the bike was I could reach out and touch them for
- 4:47real, you know what I'm saying? So.
- 4:49But I seen Lane come get on the bike.
- 4:50I'm like, no, we don't need you on the bike.
- 4:52Get off. The bike.
- 4:55But I mean, I knew he was. I seen him and that stuff you
- 4:59don't see on TV because he didn't go down on the field.
- 5:02He kind of, you know, was running around and just kept
- 5:05coming to the sideline, came straight over to the train
- 5:08again, was on the bike. So seeing that stuff, definitely
- 5:12not good to see somebody get hurt.
- 5:14But being in the stadium just brings a whole different.
- 5:19Dimension to your fandom. So all y'all out there.
- 5:23If you don't go to any games, get to a game.
- 5:26I live 7 hours away and I drive to a game at least Blacksburg.
- 5:30I drive there at least once a year to go to a game.
- 5:33If I can do it, you can do it. Unless you're Grayson Wimbush
- 5:35and you live in California, you might need to fly.
- 5:41Brian, what did you think? Man, I know you probably had
- 5:43some experiences on fields and stuff back in your when you were
- 5:46getting recruited, but that close ever sitting?
- 5:51Not that close. Ever sitting for a game.
- 5:53No. I've sat, I've got, I got when I
- 5:58was getting recruited, I did get to see some basketball games,
- 6:03like doing like junior days and shit like that, real close.
- 6:07You know, sometimes you're a sideline first few rows
- 6:09depending on what they had slated for recruits, but never,
- 6:13never had a chance to get to a football game that close.
- 6:16So that was a good experience. You know, like Kelly said, I
- 6:21mean, you can kind of take in and kind of drink in the
- 6:24sideline atmosphere a lot more from that level.
- 6:28You don't quite get the the eye and the sky view that you would
- 6:32get from a different level where you kind of see everything
- 6:35that's happening on the field. But I think you're kind of more
- 6:40kind of in the shit, as it were from that level.
- 6:43And I think that's a good perspective to have as well.
- 6:46It absolutely is. You you, you learn, you learn so
- 6:49much. You see more going on.
- 6:50Like Tally said, you were focused on what they were
- 6:53talking to them to improve, especially on the defensive side
- 6:56of the ball. Offense was in another location.
- 6:58It was we. We could not effectively get
- 7:00down there but again it was it was an experience and and that's
- 7:05what games are and even coming back and I would, I want to say
- 7:08it was probably 20,000 cuz W stands were just about full.
- 7:12Northland Zone was completely full and it was still loud.
- 7:15It was. Still it was still loud.
- 7:18You were loud. Yeah.
- 7:19I mean, and that's another thing sitting that low, you feel it
- 7:24like you feel the noise just coming over top of you.
- 7:28And I got a little, I got, I got hair standing up because I
- 7:30remember the first time that that's happened, you know, early
- 7:33in the first quarter and it was just like Jesus Lord, like it's
- 7:36like it's a third of the stadium here and it's still just
- 7:39absolutely common. Yeah, but especially like we
- 7:43didn't get a proper. Proper entry.
- 7:46Not get a time. Purdue fans were mad about that,
- 7:49too. They were very upset about that.
- 7:51They were like, we didn't even get that like.
- 7:53We got, we got 1/2 assed Sandman.
- 7:55I was like, yeah, you did. You really did.
- 7:57Y'all really did. So we need to reschedule it
- 8:00because y'all got y'all got y'all got a y'all got a D effort
- 8:04from us. Right, right now it's one in
- 8:06one. The road team took both of them.
- 8:08Let's get one to to kind of put a put a put a bow on it.
- 8:12Let's go meet in Asheville. Come on in Nashville, A good
- 8:17game for Nashville. All right, well, let's we're
- 8:19going to definitely talk about the game here. 2417 loss, the
- 8:23Hokies take. But real quick, just a couple
- 8:25things. First of all, Yep, we all got
- 8:28them. We got the Rally for Robbie
- 8:30stuff right here. Obviously in a weight game this
- 8:32week that will not be in any lot, but it is still always for
- 8:36sale or for donation at the Main Street pharmacy.
- 8:39Walk right in there and get you one.
- 8:41But let's start with some of the bad news.
- 8:44And probably the worst news was the injury to Ollie Jennings.
- 8:49He is definitely out this week. As we were walking in Lot 4 back
- 8:54in the Lane Stadium, we saw him on the golf cart with the boot,
- 8:59you know, and it sucks. It sucks for that kid in so many
- 9:03different ways. He was a great kid.
- 9:06I mean, he was a. You looked like he was hitting
- 9:09his stride, man. He just he full of energy, you
- 9:13know, and then to go down the way he did, getting rolled up
- 9:16on. I mean, it's nothing that nobody
- 9:18can prevent. You know what I'm saying?
- 9:19It's kind of like the weather, that's what that's what the law
- 9:23say happening. That's what's happening.
- 9:24You know, he was doing everything right.
- 9:26It's not like he was hanging. You know, sometimes people get
- 9:29rolled up on on piles just standing there, he was downfield
- 9:31blocking 20 yards down the field.
- 9:33He's. Trying to get his man a block
- 9:34and. Trying to get his man a block
- 9:36he's rolled up on and. Ankle injury.
- 9:38So we just you know sitting prayers out for him that his
- 9:43health is, is is good and as well as his mental health
- 9:46because you know it takes, it takes the athlete down man, when
- 9:49they get when they get injured and that they've been so hyped
- 9:52and waiting for this. And you know he had his great
- 9:54first Game 2 touchdowns and then you go into the second game
- 9:58you're amp and it's like the 2nd and you're and you go out.
- 10:03So yeah, it definitely sucks, yeah.
- 10:09It kind of, it definitely sucks because I mean you saw the
- 10:13potential that he had in this offense in the first week and
- 10:19you know, you feel like that was only going to grow as the season
- 10:22went on. You get more more comfortable in
- 10:24the offense, more comfortable with guys around you.
- 10:26So him being kind of the our, our biggest threat offensively
- 10:31definitely hurts. But also, you know, you feel for
- 10:33the kid because. You know, he's not only trying
- 10:36to go out with the bang here, but also trying to, you know,
- 10:40take some steps for the next level as well.
- 10:42So, you know, hopefully he can get back on the field as quick
- 10:45as he can and still put out something like that so he can,
- 10:48you know, turn that piece of it around as well.
- 10:51Yeah. And and I go back to what we saw
- 10:54after the ODU game and having all the family up there.
- 10:57It meant a lot to him to come to Tech.
- 10:59You can tell it genuinely meant a lot and meant a lot for his
- 11:02family because it's a it's a three hour drive, it's a three
- 11:05hour drive. It's where so many people that
- 11:07they probably grew up with has gone to and it really stinks.
- 11:11So you know, like you said to Ali, prayers for a speedy
- 11:14recovery, for the middle, for the middle part of it.
- 11:17Although, you know, we hollered at him, you know, we hope you do
- 11:19feel better, man. He was, you know, he hollered
- 11:21back at that. He was in good spirits and
- 11:25that's always a good thing. But that ain't the only injury.
- 11:30Steven Lane, we already mentioned that a little bit.
- 11:32See him on the bike? Burgos got banged up, right?
- 11:34Got banged up. People's is banged up.
- 11:37Y'all know when we're talking about making our predictions,
- 11:40you know what talk about where's the floor is it?
- 11:44Who'd you say? Who'd I miss?
- 11:45Wells is banged up too. Wells is banged up.
- 11:48We got a lot of people banged up and we talk about the floors.
- 11:51You start taking people out. I mean, let's hope that some of
- 11:55it's just early week and they're just being cautious with them,
- 11:59but man, it's that was a rough game.
- 12:03Yeah, I mean, bodies kept kept dropping, man, as we went along.
- 12:06And it wasn't just like, you know, a guy here, a guy there.
- 12:10I mean it was, it's guys that took some big steps this year
- 12:13that we were, you know, counting on to make plays, right.
- 12:18So I mean, Berg, Burgos, been out there making plays,
- 12:21obviously Lane making, making some big plays out there.
- 12:25Obviously Jennings going down early that that that hurt the
- 12:28momentum that definitely if we if we to continue playing, I
- 12:32think with that kind of looming over us in real time I think it
- 12:37could have gotten ugly because I feel like.
- 12:39Because Jenkins got hurt like that first defensive play of the
- 12:41game as well. First offensive play.
- 12:43Yeah, he did come back. He came back.
- 12:45And then and then Jennings was out too.
- 12:47You know, second play on offense.
- 12:48I mean, I feel like right away we had a bunch of gut check.
- 12:53Injuries that you know if not for the the the weather pause I
- 12:56think could have really snowballed on us a little bit
- 12:58more than it did so but you know guys still questionable this
- 13:03week. I I'm hoping we see Lane I hope
- 13:05we see Burgos in particular. I feel like those two are
- 13:09probably the the the biggest factor this week overall, but.
- 13:15I mean, it was a tough week. I mean, and and this is kind of
- 13:17a byproduct of playing on a on a wet surface, I know the field
- 13:20drained really well, but you know you're still playing on the
- 13:23wet surface. Anytime you got that that going
- 13:26on, you know freaky shit can happen.
- 13:28Yeah, definitely. When Burgos came back in because
- 13:31he went out and I seen him come back in and I think I know I
- 13:35seen him probably walk up to him and ask him, can you go?
- 13:38And he shook his head. Yeah, but he had a big brace on
- 13:40his on his elbow. But I seen him.
- 13:44Probably hyperextended or something I would.
- 13:46Imagine, I don't know exactly what he did, but like you said,
- 13:49maybe hyperextended, but he did go back in man.
- 13:52And you don't want to think about moral victories like you
- 13:56want to win. But we were down 17 to 0 and
- 14:00these kids, they fought, man. Like I I was telling I was
- 14:03sitting closer to Curtis than you, Brian.
- 14:05And I was looking at Curtis like we going to get blue out.
- 14:09It's over. You know, it's 17 to 0.
- 14:12We can't do nothing. And they just kept fighting,
- 14:14man. And we found a way back in the
- 14:16game and the defense stepped up and they were like, you know,
- 14:19they wasn't just going to roll over.
- 14:21That rain delay helped Chris Marv make some adjustments.
- 14:27Yes, it did. And look, let's let's go ahead
- 14:30and jump into it. I had something else I want to
- 14:32talk about. Well, let's jump into it.
- 14:33This is Tell the Truth. Tell the Truth Tuesday,
- 14:35Wednesday NIGHT Edition. Because on Wednesday, Tally's
- 14:38son had a late game. And by all means, we're dads.
- 14:44Things like that happen. Me and Brian completely
- 14:45understand what we'll pivot and go in a night longer anyway.
- 14:48It ain't gonna hurt nobody's feelings.
- 14:50But let's talk about ones with well.
- 14:52And a lot of people are about to slowly scream at us and say no,
- 14:55it didn't. But offensively, offensively,
- 14:59I'm starting with the offense. I'm waiting for the bat.
- 15:00All the comments to pop up over there, y'all tell me this
- 15:05because I said with these two gentlemen who basically who
- 15:08played collegiate football no less than 7 to 9 times did I
- 15:13hear y'all scream the player is open.
- 15:16There were other people around us screaming players are open.
- 15:20The overall passing play design of what we did on Saturday and
- 15:25then the skill players getting open that was working cuz Tally
- 15:28kept screaming. Quit running the ball, just
- 15:31throw it. Just throw it there if they
- 15:34they're stacking the box and daring you to beat them with
- 15:37your arm. You got to take what they're
- 15:39giving you. If they're giving you 10 yards
- 15:42across the middle, if they're giving you a wheel right, a
- 15:46wheel route out of the back field, you got to take it like,
- 15:50I get it. You want to say, Oh well, we got
- 15:52to run and set up the to set up the the pass.
- 15:55No, you don't. If they're going to give it to
- 15:57you, they're already in their position.
- 16:00Do it the other way. Do it the other way.
- 16:02Pass set up the run. We need to make them adjust to
- 16:05us, You know, we don't need to. Have us adjusted to them.
- 16:10I mean we've all we going to run let's run what we're running.
- 16:13All right. We see what you got.
- 16:15Okay let we going to get you out of that.
- 16:16So yeah it was people running open man.
- 16:20I've seen a couple times where you know receivers had steps on
- 16:25the DB's covering them and that's one of the things we
- 16:27talked about before before the game.
- 16:29Going into the game last week, like we didn't feel that their
- 16:32secondary was so great that they could stop our receivers.
- 16:37We were getting deep in that receiver room, man.
- 16:39Like I seen Aiden Green with steps on people.
- 16:43I seen Felton. He had no Lofton.
- 16:49Both of our tight ends, Stephen Gosnell.
- 16:52Like man, I've seen a lot of people running free.
- 16:56But you know, I know we'll talk about it and we don't want to
- 16:58beat on him too much. When you're When your
- 17:01quarterback locks on one receiver and that's all he looks
- 17:05at, he's never going to scan the field.
- 17:07And that's why we're getting in trouble.
- 17:10Exactly. And I mean overall passing play
- 17:14design really good, especially when when you talk about the
- 17:17defense there. I mean we talked about it last
- 17:19week when we were previewing them, but a lot of single high
- 17:22man coverage. So we got, we got a lot of
- 17:26opportunities where we could beat a band one-on-one and we
- 17:29did it pretty consistently. I mean, they Quan, right, went
- 17:32out there and had himself a game.
- 17:34I mean, and that that's stepping up after you lose.
- 17:37Really. You lose your best wide receiver
- 17:39for the whole game, pretty much. You lose your second best wide
- 17:42receiver for at least a whole half.
- 17:44And I don't know and we still we're getting open, but you got
- 17:49to still make the plays and that starts with the quarterback.
- 17:52And he went down in that. He went down in that last drive
- 17:54as well. Yeah.
- 17:56Because you know when he got knocked right in front of us?
- 17:58Exactly. In front of, Yeah, right on,
- 17:59right up. Against Ranch, yeah, ran up into
- 18:01the bench. He thought it was knocked out.
- 18:03I don't know what was going on with it.
- 18:06All I saw was there were like 3 medical guys over there.
- 18:09He was down there. He slid like 6 or 7 yards.
- 18:13Yeah, to the sidelines or. Three under the bench.
- 18:15So you know, I feel like it could have been a little bit of
- 18:17a different drive if you got both of those tight ends just
- 18:20work in the middle as well, so they couldn't guard.
- 18:23If you go look at the game, you go look at the stats.
- 18:26Nobody on that team could go. He was a matchup nightmare, a
- 18:30sophomore fighting and doing work like that.
- 18:33That was good. No one could guard our receivers
- 18:36or the pass play schemes. We'll get into the other stuff
- 18:38later because y'all know this is 4 sections I want to talk about
- 18:41this. Let's talk about coverage, play,
- 18:44coverage, play. I knew Purdue went for 248.
- 18:46That was on 34 pass attempts. We were.
- 18:50We talked about Birch being a danger.
- 18:53He really was not that big of a danger in this game because the
- 18:58back end pretty much locked up across the board.
- 19:02Their leading receiver was 8 for 64 and the man we were worried
- 19:06about, Dion Burks, one catch, 18 yards.
- 19:12The the back end is the back end is for real whoever's back.
- 19:16Playing with a Playing with a backup.
- 19:18Jalen I was a wide receiver last year, man.
- 19:22I don't. Again, I know they just put the
- 19:24whole tape on YouTube, so if y'all haven't watched it, go
- 19:29watch the whole tape. I'm talking about audience
- 19:33members, y'all go watch this tape, man.
- 19:37Jalen Jones in the back end. I seen a couple of times where
- 19:41the kid had perfect coverage and that is hard to do.
- 19:45Perfect coverage. No, no, no flag, nothing.
- 19:49He played good in the back end man.
- 19:51I was excited to see him take a step in that game because the
- 19:55receivers that they have especially Burke's kid, the
- 19:57Burke's kid can can and and they just made good plays like in in
- 20:02games that we watched. So I was excited to see that
- 20:06back end do some work back there.
- 20:07They played, they played as good as we could see them play, I
- 20:10think. Yeah, they only really hit one
- 20:13shot down the field and that into get brought down, you know
- 20:16right after the catch there. Other than that we kept
- 20:19everything in front of us. I'd say in the secondary we
- 20:23tackle pretty well, like they they didn't get a whole lot of
- 20:27run after the catch in the secondary.
- 20:29So I thought that was really good overall and I, as you said,
- 20:35I like that, that we saw Jalen Jones step up.
- 20:37Had a pretty good week against ODU, especially for somebody
- 20:40getting really his first live snaps on defense at this level,
- 20:45and really stepped up big this week because he had a he had
- 20:49much more responsibility this week and really answered the
- 20:52call. You know who else answered the
- 20:58call? Brian, who's that?
- 21:00Schroman, Schroman and and and Lawson.
- 21:05Both of those guys had 14 tackles.
- 21:09Unreal. Both of them had 14 tackles.
- 21:12And not only did both of them have 14 tackles they was making
- 21:15plays with. And again, I ain't saying that
- 21:18we we back, but they was making plays with that old school
- 21:21attitude. I seen Jaden Strobman hit
- 21:24somebody on their sideline and look at their sideline and start
- 21:28slapping his helmet. I wanted to.
- 21:30I wanted to put a helmet on. I don't know how much work I
- 21:32could have done. I wanted to put a helmet on.
- 21:34But just seeing stuff like that man in Lawson was all over the
- 21:38field in the back field. Sideline to sideline.
- 21:42I mean, everybody knows he's an athletic freak, but watching him
- 21:46from ODU to to Purdue looks like that he took a step forward to
- 21:52me just with his coverage. His coverage was good and he if
- 21:58you get, if you get multiple double digit titles, man like
- 22:03that was. That's what we need to see.
- 22:06Yeah. I mean and he got the he got the
- 22:08all A/C all ACC accolades this week for for his place.
- 22:11So yeah so that that's that's big man.
- 22:16He really showed up. You know the tackles are great,
- 22:20you know, but that's just a number.
- 22:22But watching him improve significantly and run fits
- 22:26compared to last week, you know there was, there was some some
- 22:29issues last week significantly better on that front this week
- 22:32as you said, good in coverage this week.
- 22:35He had some more coverage responsibilities this week than
- 22:38he had last week. So it's good to see when you
- 22:40asked more of players and they give you more and we see that
- 22:45both with we we saw with Lawson, we saw with Stroman and we
- 22:48already talked about seeing it with Jalen Jones too.
- 22:50So that's that's some positives to take away from us.
- 22:54I can't remember who. I can't remember who.
- 22:56I mean. Curtis, did you have something
- 22:58to go with? Well, I was going to say I was
- 22:59thinking about, I can't remember who mentioned it, but and I want
- 23:02to see the play, the one where apparently Lawson's getting
- 23:06pushed by like the guard and he gets the handout and he makes a
- 23:10stop. Like.
- 23:12That's freak. That's freak stuff.
- 23:14That's freak stuff. There's there's only certain
- 23:16guys that are built like that that have the strength to hold
- 23:18the guard, to actually get ahold of the guy and get them down.
- 23:24That's freaking. That's some towel drills right
- 23:26there, man, to be able to grab somebody jersey and pull them
- 23:29down. Brian knows what I'm talking
- 23:31about. But those guys are special.
- 23:34Both of those guys are special, I think.
- 23:37So we're not going to have them much longer.
- 23:39We're not going to have them, we.
- 23:40Ain't going to have them after next year.
- 23:42Go ahead and write that down now.
- 23:44My hope is there are people out there that see how they're
- 23:47playing. And say I can go here, I can
- 23:50make my name, I can move to the next level.
- 23:53So we'll hope that happens. There's one more accolade we're
- 23:57going to give and what went well.
- 23:59And it's not the best thing and people are going to laugh,
- 24:01probably, but y'all, Peter Moore made that punt return to back up
- 24:065 to 8 yards every single time he kicked it.
- 24:09That kid didn't know what to do. He moved it.
- 24:11He was booming, man. He was absolutely booming.
- 24:15And I mean, he put what, 4 inside the 20, a couple deep,
- 24:18deep. They were not getting that much
- 24:22on him and it was something we talked about in the preseason.
- 24:25Can he get back to where he was two years ago?
- 24:27He's well on his way back this year.
- 24:29And what does that do? Give Pete as much as I want to
- 24:32give the defense credit. After giving up to 17 until the
- 24:35nearly last drive, every time Peter Moore was called on, he
- 24:40put Purdue deep. He forced them to drive the
- 24:45field where eventually, each time they stalled up until the
- 24:48end and I think he only had one return where they got more than
- 24:52like 5 yards. Most of them got down inside the
- 24:56the the 10 or 15, I think one was inside the five.
- 25:00So, I mean, he did his job the whole night.
- 25:03Yeah, 23 total yards, returning on four on four.
- 25:08So what? Less than five, so.
- 25:13Yeah, and absolutely. Billy Ray, he is a stud.
- 25:17Absolutely. All right boys.
- 25:19So we we've talked about the good, but when you lose a game,
- 25:23there's going to be more bad than good and it and that's the
- 25:27case here today. And Brian, I'm going, I'm going
- 25:29to let you lead it off because it was an issue last week and
- 25:32you were paying even more attention.
- 25:33Being as close as we were, we could not run the football guys
- 25:38again. I don't, I don't know if y'all
- 25:40watch the game. We couldn't run the football.
- 25:44That's pretty important part of the game, man.
- 25:47You know, we talked about the flow of the game and the past
- 25:51plays were called, well, we like that part of it.
- 25:54But at some point, you've got to be able to run the football
- 25:57effectively so a defense doesn't just load the box and tee off on
- 26:02your quarterback because that puts even more pressure on your
- 26:06pass pro. You've got to be able to run the
- 26:08football with some degree of efficiency, and we're not able
- 26:11to do that right now. And a lot of it is execution.
- 26:153rd and 1:00 you got to be able to get one yard man like we
- 26:19couldn't. We can't do nothing that that.
- 26:22Like you said, sometimes the play call isn't the problem and
- 26:27I don't want to go through and critique all of the the
- 26:30offensive line right now, but. If you are pulling as a tackle
- 26:35and you do not pull into the hole and and blow the man out of
- 26:38the hole and he's the one that makes the tackle and everybody
- 26:41else is blocked, you're at the problem.
- 26:44Yeah. You don't need to be giving
- 26:45Kayden more the business when your guys.
- 26:49You don't need 3 feet to your left are blowing up to man.
- 26:54Like wrap into the hole and root that motherfucker out of there.
- 26:58That's all I'm saying. Do not go stand behind your
- 27:01guard. And play the Heimlich maneuver,
- 27:05that's what. And we were braying bright
- 27:07orange jerseys. Come on, man.
- 27:10And they were. You can't.
- 27:13What the? Hey man.
- 27:15That, that, I think, I think, I think, I think we're here right
- 27:17there tallying more than one time as a tight end was asked to
- 27:20make a pool play like that into a hole.
- 27:22Brian, we know you were as a guard as well and it's like you
- 27:25got to hit the hole. If you see your team's jersey
- 27:28color, you didn't screw it up. Right.
- 27:32And that's a mentality, man. I mean it's not been times where
- 27:36you you pull on something and you, you don't know what you're
- 27:40going to see when you get in that sometimes.
- 27:42But guess what, sometimes the defender don't know what they're
- 27:44going to see either. So as a as a offensive lineman,
- 27:48when you're pulling like some offensive lineman, just that's
- 27:51that's their bread and butter because they got quick feet.
- 27:54They can get the they can get the shoulders turned or they can
- 27:57get the hips moving. And they can, they can get in
- 27:59the hole and and and they're low enough where when you see them
- 28:03it's too late, you know. So some office alignment make
- 28:06their money on pulling plays. They also don't let their eyes
- 28:10twist up their feet. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:12A lot of times, like if a lot of times when people are pulling,
- 28:17if if you're trusting your eyes too much, you can tie up your
- 28:20feet. If you're trusting your muscle
- 28:22memory but not using your eyes, you can end up in the wrong
- 28:24spot. This is just you got to be able
- 28:29to do both. You got to be able to trust your
- 28:31eyes and and see what's happening in real time.
- 28:34The play you're referencing though, I mean that was blocked
- 28:38as drawn up, there's there really wasn't a question of of
- 28:43where you should be. You should know what the fuck
- 28:45you're doing on that. I'm almost simplified.
- 28:47It's just a little bit for everybody who watching because,
- 28:50you know, it's been all kind of speculation all week and we've
- 28:54been talking about the game. I seen a clip of Wyatt Teller
- 28:59and they said Wyatt Teller drove his man 20 yards and everybody
- 29:03says, oh, that's cool. Oh, OK.
- 29:05This is what I want you to do to think about what Wyatt Teller
- 29:07did. People that's here watching.
- 29:10Go fill your trash can up. I don't know what my trash day
- 29:13is. On Tuesdays, fill your trash can
- 29:15up and instead of using the wheels to roll it down, roll it
- 29:20down. On the front part.
- 29:21That's that doesn't have the wheels.
- 29:24That's still not a defensive lineman.
- 29:26He took the defensive lineman that is in front of him and he
- 29:30pushed him down the field 20 to 25 yards and then put him on his
- 29:34ass. And put him down.
- 29:36You want to know why he did that one?
- 29:39Because he's strong, that he is very strong.
- 29:42But #2 is because he is a mean motherfucker.
- 29:45You got to be mean to play offensive line.
- 29:48You can be nice off the field. You can go to church and you can
- 29:51thank God on on Sundays or or or on Saturdays, whatever.
- 29:55If you seven day visit, I don't know what you are.
- 29:57You can pray when you're not on the field, but when you get on
- 30:00the field you got to be mean. You got to be able to say the
- 30:04person that is lined up in front of me or whoever I can put my
- 30:07hat on that doesn't have the jersey that I have on.
- 30:10I want to inflict pain. I just don't get that from some
- 30:13of my offensive lineman right now.
- 30:15The other part though, you mentioned that it's also he knew
- 30:17exactly where he was supposed to be on that run play.
- 30:20That's his 5th. I'm right here.
- 30:22I find my guy and I take him and and again we go back to it.
- 30:26That's been the real problem. Not only not mean, not a lot of
- 30:29push, but a lot of screw ups, a lot of missteps.
- 30:32So it definitely has to improve, but it was definitely bad on
- 30:36Saturday. Now I'm.
- 30:37I'm gonna stay on the offensive side of the ball.
- 30:41And and and it's not to be disrespectful because he had a
- 30:45great game against ODU. But what we saw Saturday
- 30:50afternoon and into the night that was Grant Wells of last
- 30:53year that showed up. That was not the Grant Wells we
- 30:55saw in the first game and it was the missing wide open players.
- 30:59It was when the pressure was there, it was he wasn't
- 31:02trusting. He was not trusting what was
- 31:05going to happen and. And and and to be honest it it
- 31:09was bad because I mean the like that pick that that pick was
- 31:15still everybody keeps saying well so and so ran the wrong
- 31:18route but the whole thing is that safety hooked up under in
- 31:24that inside zone when he would leverage wasn't there even if
- 31:27the route was ran properly. The jersey shouldn't have thrown
- 31:30it. He shouldn't.
- 31:31Have thrown it. The Jersey's white.
- 31:33There was no way he was going to get that to anybody.
- 31:36Yeah, and that's things he was doing last year.
- 31:39And The thing is, we took a step up in competition this week.
- 31:43And I'm not trying to bury him, but it's like what I was hoping
- 31:47to see for Grant Wells because he was named the starting
- 31:49quarterback, was when we took the step up, we wouldn't see the
- 31:54bad interception. There were two of them.
- 31:56There were two bad interceptions because the first one was just a
- 31:59bad throw. The second one, there were two
- 32:01guys. Open up the scene, watch that,
- 32:03watch those play again. There were two guys open.
- 32:05He threw it to the guy who was significantly covered.
- 32:08And and I'm sitting here and it's like, you know, we're going
- 32:12to talk about it in a little while here, but it's like you're
- 32:16reverting back, you're reverting back.
- 32:19This team is better skill wise, it's better pass protection
- 32:23wise. The run game still ain't there,
- 32:25but pass protection has went up significantly.
- 32:27Siegler, you and you and Brian were talking about that like
- 32:30like, we're looking better, like we can hold a pocket.
- 32:34So now we're getting to that point.
- 32:36It's like if you're reverting back to your old ways.
- 32:43I mean, Curtis, you were very heavy before the season started
- 32:47talking about we can't go one and one with the picks.
- 32:51Like that ratio can't be one and one.
- 32:54How many touchdowns and how many picks did he have Saturday?
- 32:57Two to two? Two to two?
- 32:58You just can't do it and that. One pick was literally.
- 33:02In the red zone corporate game, it's it's it's set up another
- 33:05touchdown. I think they, yeah.
- 33:07I can't remember if they got a touchdown or.
- 33:09Yeah, that was a touchdown because it was about the the
- 33:13first one was a touchdown because they got it.
- 33:15I think it, I think 18 by the time we made the tackle there.
- 33:18Yeah, they. Were inside the red zone and
- 33:20then they they they turned that around quick.
- 33:22Like, thankfully we held on and that that other one coming out
- 33:26of halftime didn't really bury us, but it definitely took an
- 33:28opportunity that we could have, took the momentum in the game we
- 33:33had and we lost that opportunity.
- 33:35We had the momentum coming out of half.
- 33:38We scored. 17 straight in 6 minutes and then we get the ball
- 33:42and we got the ball coming out of half.
- 33:45You blew all of your momentum in one full fell swoop and then it
- 33:48became a grindfest the entire third quarter.
- 33:51And then the one that he missed. The second one was a a a throw
- 33:56to to Felton that was high and behind.
- 34:00You know, he's 65, man. And you got to understand, he's
- 34:03running. You got to.
- 34:05Wells has been starting for four years.
- 34:08You know what I'm saying? Like, if he was a freshman, I
- 34:11would be like, you know what this is?
- 34:13This is the learning curve for him.
- 34:15Like, he knows first season starting even even if he wasn't
- 34:18a freshman. But you know, it's going to be
- 34:19some growing pains, right? We get it, but this is his
- 34:22fourth season start, man, and you got to know where to put the
- 34:25ball. You know, you got to know.
- 34:27What plays cannot be made. You got to know where you are in
- 34:30the game, and I hate to say that we're putting that on him, but
- 34:33you think about what Texas did, going down to Alabama and
- 34:36Tuscaloosa, that is a hard place to win.
- 34:40And Texas is quarterback the queen kid again.
- 34:44It's different skill level, of course, I understand that, but
- 34:48they were playing against a different skill level as well
- 34:50than we are. But he goes down there, man, and
- 34:52you just got to have some nuts about you.
- 34:54And when the game time comes, when it when it comes time to
- 34:57win the game like y'all See when we go to our picks.
- 35:01I picked Texas to win because last year he gave them all they
- 35:06can handle till he got hurt till he got hurt.
- 35:09When he got hurt it was over. This year he came back, he he
- 35:13was coming back for blood. And I feel like Wells just
- 35:15doesn't have that, that that little bit of last oomph about
- 35:19him. Like, hey, last year y'all
- 35:21counted me out. I did everything I needed to do
- 35:24to be the starter this year. I did everything to be the
- 35:26captain this year. I'm going to carry this team to
- 35:28win. I didn't see him getting in
- 35:30people's ass on the sidelines, and I didn't see him rallying
- 35:33his troops. It was just like he just came
- 35:35and kind of stood by himself. You know?
- 35:37I threw a pick. Fuck.
- 35:39That's it. That's what we get.
- 35:40So yeah, I don't want to stay on him because people think I hate
- 35:44Grant Wells and I really don't. I think he's a good kid.
- 35:47Yeah, I think he's. I think he's a good guy.
- 35:49I just think the limitations are what they are.
- 35:53And right now, the limitations of what we need, it's not going
- 35:58to go. I need more.
- 36:02I see more Gretchen and Starbucks in some locations,
- 36:05absolutely. Some people will throw an elbow
- 36:07at you. I'm going to call Gaskins Rd.
- 36:10baby. Gaskins Rd.
- 36:11You. Absolutely.
- 36:12I think the thing come line will get wrapped around the door in a
- 36:14heartbeat. 2 pieces here. I'm going to go to defense next,
- 36:17but I got two pieces I want to kind of put on the coaching
- 36:21first one. We came out slow again, both
- 36:25sides of the ball. That shit's got to stop, that
- 36:28shit's got to stop. And I don't know what the
- 36:31coaches have to do. I don't know what they have to
- 36:34do to get the players jazzed up. I mean, I'll say this, coming
- 36:40back out of that break, the players seemed more jazzed than
- 36:44they were at the beginning. It was a little different,
- 36:47especially on defense. Now game one, they were too
- 36:51jazzed up. Yeah, they were, they were, they
- 36:54were through the roof. So the coaching staff needs to
- 36:57find a happy medium to say even kill, even kill, even kill.
- 37:02Not too high, not too low. You got to find that even kill
- 37:07shout out to Marty Favreck, because that was something he
- 37:09always preached. Even kill.
- 37:13Yeah, you got to have a, you got to have a healthy, healthy
- 37:16balance of like chaos and even kill this, I guess you can say
- 37:21like. You got to know that when I step
- 37:23on the field and I'm prepared and I know what I'm doing, but
- 37:27it's a fucking football game going on, you know, sometimes we
- 37:31just look like a dead headlights out there at different
- 37:33positions, you know? But I agree, took too long to,
- 37:38you know, it. Or do you know they came out the
- 37:42first drive and walked down the field fire, You know, they came
- 37:47out whatever they wanted. Firing.
- 37:49They came out firing. Now the other piece I want to
- 37:53talk about and and and I think this is 1.
- 37:56No one will know the story. Maybe maybe one day we'll have
- 38:01the pleasure talking with somebody off record or bring
- 38:04them on here. The timing of when they put car
- 38:06and drone in in 2 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
- 38:10Now to me it went bad because the way he looked, the way he
- 38:16looked. If he would have came in, in the
- 38:19third quarter or even the early part of the fourth quarter, we
- 38:21might have got a couple scores because up to that point we've
- 38:25had five drives. You know how many yards we had
- 38:28in five drives? Probably 30. 63 Not as bad as
- 38:33you think it felt like 31 drive in less than two minutes.
- 38:38You put 49 on the board. One drive 49 yards.
- 38:42It's the same players there was. Actually, he did it without
- 38:47Dekwon Wright. Sorry, I just.
- 38:49Didn't like there and lane was out too.
- 38:52Right Lane was out too Lane. Was not in there, so he went 49
- 38:57yards real quick. But the and it's more of the bad
- 39:00because of could he have come in earlier because Tally, you
- 39:04noticed when Grant came off on the drive before you were like
- 39:09Grant's not feeling right. Because you saw.
- 39:11I didn't say it because you told me.
- 39:13Yeah, he was limping, man. I was telling people after the
- 39:16game, I was like, that kid is hurt, you know, and this.
- 39:19I'm all about having heart. But if you go back and you look
- 39:22at it like right before halftime, he went in early.
- 39:26He was hurting then. And I don't know if it just, you
- 39:29know, got worse or he had got it taped and the tape started
- 39:33coming loose or what. I don't know what was going on.
- 39:35But more and more in that second-half, man, he was hurt.
- 39:39And I think that's part of the reason why when he threw that
- 39:42pit coming out of halftime. He couldn't push, you know, he
- 39:45couldn't push off of his, his back, his back foot or his back.
- 39:49So again, not trying to make excuses for him, but when we're
- 39:53talking about the timing of the of caring drones going in, I
- 39:57mean essentially I'm not the coach, but essentially you got a
- 40:0100 game and you got the ball and if you got a kid that's hurt.
- 40:07You know, or even if you don't think he's that hurt.
- 40:08You alright? You're the captain.
- 40:10You ready to go? Yes, Sir.
- 40:11I can go. And you go in and throw a pick.
- 40:13No. You need to sit down for a
- 40:14minute. Let's figure out, let's figure
- 40:16out what's going on with you. Let's see what?
- 40:18We got your body. There is no it's it's going to
- 40:21be pressure, but that pressure is a lot different than going in
- 40:24down seven with two minutes to go so.
- 40:28When I knew it was something a little bit off was when he
- 40:31climbed the pocket that one time and there was 20 yards.
- 40:35Of green grass in front of them. And he reset like he was going
- 40:40to try to throw it and then like Half ass was was able to try to
- 40:45try to get a few yards there. And I was like, something's not
- 40:47right there, yeah. That sounded in the game, he
- 40:50found the defender. It's what he did the.
- 40:53Whole thing is you talk about 20 yards, we're at what, the 42,
- 40:57you're inside the 20 there. You're in fields of.
- 40:59Rush, we're taking the lead. We're taking the lead, and our
- 41:02100% believe we take the lead there.
- 41:04That game's over. We had scored the last 17.
- 41:07We had pretty much the momentum. Our defense was pretty jacked.
- 41:11We took to to Grant Wells to give him his props, like we were
- 41:17moving the ball. I think Cosnell caught a long
- 41:20pass and you know, got some yards out to catch there.
- 41:22On that drive we were driving the ball down the field and if
- 41:28you think about before that played O'Brien before he goes to
- 41:32play where he plays hide and seek in an open field and
- 41:35standing and goes, hey, it's me. Before that play they tried to
- 41:40run like a like a speed option and he just couldn't get to the
- 41:45end. He he had, he had some some
- 41:48lanes to get through. It essentially looked like the
- 41:50play where QP was ran against against North Carolina and he
- 41:56put his foot in the ground and took off.
- 41:58What else? Couldn't put a foot in the
- 41:59ground. He put his foot in the ground
- 42:01and failed, you know, like I was like he's hurt.
- 42:05There was a lane because it was a lane right next to Parker
- 42:07right there because that that defender went with this.
- 42:10I think it was a steel if he. I mean, is it going to be 3540
- 42:14yards with Grant? Probably not.
- 42:15Is it going to be a probably 1015 yard game?
- 42:18Yeah, because he had a lane all. Right, let's flip over to
- 42:21defense because they are not getting away with this.
- 42:24We love them to death. We were, they were.
- 42:26They played their nuts off from the first quarter until the next
- 42:30to last drive. The first one, Y'all screamed
- 42:34about it more than me. Man, that was some terrible
- 42:37tackling. I don't know how many missed
- 42:39tackles we had that we still. Somehow I didn't realize this
- 42:44until I relooked up the stats today.
- 42:46We still held them under 4 yards to carry with all those crap
- 42:50tackles and they're running back ran hard man 45 with that ugly
- 42:55ass number ran hard like and he wasn't like super big you know
- 43:01he wasn't super skilled. It didn't look like no
- 43:03disrespect to him but it's not like he was juking people out of
- 43:06their shoes and then he just ran hard and we was missing tackles.
- 43:10Like you can't, you can't get somebody you know for a 2 yard
- 43:14game and let them get a 5 yard game or you can't get somebody
- 43:18in the backfield and then they turned into a 5 yard game.
- 43:21Like that's losing football. We got to learn how to play
- 43:24winning football. You got to make that tackle.
- 43:30Yeah, I mean he he showed some moves.
- 43:33I mean he, he had a little bit of that Sam Rogers running
- 43:37style, like a taller Sam Rogers they're calling crazy ladies.
- 43:41Yeah. Did you like?
- 43:43Yeah, like he when he played it, it was like real awkward.
- 43:47But I mean, it was effective, yeah.
- 43:52But I mean you got to wrap up and get him down to the ground
- 43:54like, I mean that's that's the that's the thing here.
- 43:56I mean if you if you wrap up and drive through him, what what
- 43:59he's doing don't matter. Keep to your technique and
- 44:04finish. That's very true.
- 44:08Now, the last piece and pressure was there all day on for these
- 44:13quarterback. We were getting through their
- 44:15offensive line. We only wound up with two sacks.
- 44:18That they've got to finish because it was more than a
- 44:20couple times they had card down for sacks or tackle for losses.
- 44:25It's now I'm going to say this compared to last year, it's
- 44:27improved, but these guys are beating.
- 44:32We're beating offensive lines, we're beating offensive line.
- 44:36The Purdue's line was a little bit beat up, but we're beating
- 44:40offensive lines to get those sacks.
- 44:41And Brian, you know what can be done.
- 44:47What do you feel like can be talked to about them, about
- 44:50that? Because it's like, you're right
- 44:52there. Take the gold.
- 44:55Yeah. I mean, I think some of it is
- 44:56like being a little bit more disciplined in the pass rush
- 44:58lane because I think sometimes we're getting there, but we're
- 45:02not getting there in a discipline way.
- 45:04So if we, if we mind the pass rush lanes, I think we won't
- 45:07have those open spots where guys can step up, step to the right,
- 45:12step to the left, kind of evade. Evade the rush and make the
- 45:16play. We're getting close enough, but
- 45:20we can have that equal pressure across the line.
- 45:24He won't be able to step up away from where the pressure's coming
- 45:27from. He won't be able to step to the
- 45:28side from where the pressure's coming from.
- 45:30So I think that that consistency could help.
- 45:35Tell anything you got on that? Yeah, pretty much what Brian
- 45:38said and agreed. You know, you want to constrict.
- 45:41You want to constrict the area that he has back there.
- 45:44You don't want our two outside guys to rush in and run by him
- 45:50and then our inside guys be too tight.
- 45:53So it leaves a lane you know, you want, you really want that
- 45:57whole line to know okay, I know what he's doing.
- 46:00So I have to keep this lane right here, you know, and I want
- 46:03to keep this arm free because he's going to have this gap.
- 46:06So it's just like you said, playing with each other and
- 46:08knowing your knowing your fits. I'm glad to see us getting to
- 46:13the quarterback because it looked like a lot of times last
- 46:15year we couldn't do that at all. So it comes down to us just
- 46:21working together, man. You know what I'm saying?
- 46:23Yeah, you want to get a sack, but we want the team to get a
- 46:25sack. So if you missed it, we know the
- 46:28next guys got it. So I think that's what we got to
- 46:31get better at. Absolutely.
- 46:34All right. So there's all that went bad.
- 46:36I don't know how long that segment went compared to the
- 46:38previous segment. It was longer, in my opinion
- 46:41because we kept talking, but now we're on the phone.
- 46:45Us. Keep talking.
- 46:46No fucking way. No way.
- 46:47First of all, Tally, I got to ask because Andretti noticed it
- 46:51here. He's feeling the hat.
- 46:52Did you purchase that this weekend?
- 46:55I did Alumni Hall, man. I went to Alumni Hall and I seen
- 46:59it and I was like, Yep, that's my hat for this weekend.
- 47:01I actually got another one as well.
- 47:03So I got a couple of different hats, but this was the one that
- 47:06I wore to the game and the first one that I bought when I got
- 47:09there Friday night. They got a lot of cool stuff
- 47:14there, man. I mean, I know they got them
- 47:15online too. I've seen them online, but I
- 47:17didn't know I was going to like it as much as I did until I seen
- 47:21it in person. So I was like, yeah, let me get
- 47:23that. Let me grab this again.
- 47:26I like that Heck, because it's almost like a throwback to,
- 47:28like, the 90s. I love that.
- 47:30Love that. All right.
- 47:31Oh yeah. So this is a real quick one.
- 47:34Did anything happen? We were not prepared for whole
- 47:40fucking day tornado. No more.
- 47:43I mean, I'm not saying anything because everything that happened
- 47:46then happened to the kids on the field the whole day.
- 47:52It was a lot. There's a lot going on.
- 47:54Well, you know. What I mean well.
- 47:56We're sitting around, we're trying to figure out because
- 47:59it's like Tally got a 7 hour drive back to Alabama and he's
- 48:03like man, if if I'm going to make it to Bristol tonight, I
- 48:07need to at least like leave by 10, maybe 9.
- 48:11We're sitting here like if we want to get back to Rich before
- 48:132-3 in the morning, like this is what time we going to kick.
- 48:16So we're all around. All different sorts of places.
- 48:21It was the entire day and you could only think about what was
- 48:23going through the kids, so usually this one will be better.
- 48:26But for Saturday whole day, nobody was prepared for all that
- 48:31stuff that happened. No, it was a lot, man.
- 48:33It was a lot. And then it's just being your
- 48:36mindset is I'm getting there, you know, we've all been to to
- 48:40games. I'm getting there.
- 48:42I'm gonna tailgate it a little bit.
- 48:44I'm gonna go in the game. I'm gonna watch a game.
- 48:46I'm gonna holler at my boys, then I'm gonna head home.
- 48:50None of that happened that way. It was like, you got there, you
- 48:53got ready to play. It started raining.
- 48:56You didn't know what to do. You you get pushed out into the
- 49:01the, the under the, the bleachers and the police is
- 49:04coming through saying you got to leave, you got to get out.
- 49:06And we like, no, we're not going out in that.
- 49:08I ain't going in. That oh, my God, today was nuts.
- 49:14And then sitting around looking at Curtis and Brian, like, what
- 49:16do we do? Do we wait and see?
- 49:18Well, it's going to be updated at 3.
- 49:19It's going to be updated at 3:30.
- 49:20It's going to be updated at 4:00.
- 49:22There. Are they going to start at 7:00?
- 49:24It's like we just didn't know, man.
- 49:26But through all that, I can say like, it was an awesome day.
- 49:30Through all of that, we lost. Like, it was awesome to be in
- 49:33Blacksburg. It was awesome to get the seats
- 49:35we had. But yes, I'm going to stop it
- 49:39right there that that the entire day was we didn't know none of
- 49:43that was going to happen. None of it.
- 49:44And it wasn't just the well, I plan to do this and that and
- 49:48that and I'm not going to get to all of that like that's that's
- 49:52every time you go you always over plan always when you when
- 49:55you go to a game like, all right, I'm going to make this
- 49:58tailgate, this tailgate, I'm going to go by this bar for like
- 50:0110 minutes, 20 minutes, thirty minutes, whatever it is.
- 50:03Then I'm going to go into the stadium at like 11/11/30.
- 50:06Like you make all those plans, all those grand plans, but you
- 50:09might get to do half of that because like everything takes a
- 50:12little bit longer than you think it is, right?
- 50:14It wasn't just that, it was everything else on top of.
- 50:19That all right, Y'all, we got to talk about this real quick and
- 50:24I'm gonna. I'm gonna start it.
- 50:25I got the I got to run down a little different.
- 50:27But what we can do better moving forward.
- 50:30I'm gonna start at the bottom here because Coach Prime
- 50:34mentioned it in his. Presser about There has been hot
- 50:38conversation about offensive line rotation and Brian, you
- 50:43wrote this on here and like what?
- 50:45What do you feel like we need to see right now?
- 50:49Honestly, and I mean, as much as I feel like he had a little bit
- 50:53of a redemption tour this offseason, we we got to do
- 50:56something at at right tackle because as.
- 51:02Decent of strides as he's made to at least get back from a PFF
- 51:06standpoint in the ballpark of where he was at two years ago.
- 51:09With pass pro we, I mean it's still regression in the run
- 51:13blocking and it's not just the physicality piece of it.
- 51:19We're talking mental mistakes. We're talking execution errors.
- 51:22This is something that a three-year starter should not
- 51:26be. It should not be happening to
- 51:28them. So Mike Siegel, to say it, it's
- 51:33like, it's just not physicality. It's running behind your own
- 51:38guard, like, and standing there. Just stuff like that, man.
- 51:42Like we got to see. I don't know, man.
- 51:45You got to put some urgency on these boys for real.
- 51:48Let's do I'd like to see Jack at center and maybe move the move
- 51:51Kaden back to guard too. So I mean, I think we can play
- 51:54around with some stuff to maybe find something else that works
- 51:59to create a little more balance. Because if we can't start
- 52:03running the ball effectively, whether it's by a quarterback
- 52:06change, where it's an old line shuffle, whatever we need to do,
- 52:10we've got to spark some sort of rushing efficiency.
- 52:14We don't have to be great, we don't have to go out there and
- 52:16be over 150 every game, but we need to be at least approaching
- 52:20that every game. Yep, I agree with that tenfold,
- 52:25and I think what you just said about.
- 52:27Is it the Hollyfield move in the center, Let Kaden go back to
- 52:30more of a natural guard spot? People are getting, you know,
- 52:33they're throwing them about. Those snaps, those snaps he's
- 52:36had had some low ones. He has had some struggles.
- 52:39He's had some good moments. But The thing is, if that's Jack
- 52:42Hollyfield's natural position, you put Kaden back at his
- 52:45natural position at right, and then I'm.
- 52:49I'm gonna say it. Y'all tell me I'm crazy.
- 52:53Oh my God, Pat. Get.
- 52:56Out of here, Pat. Get out of here, Pat.
- 53:00I mean, you know we Greg Boone 2.0, the Wild Turkey.
- 53:05Wild Turkey Two point Wild Turkey 2.0 If it'll give us some
- 53:08Russian yards right now, maybe we need to try it.
- 53:10We can try it, but what I think, what I think also if you kick
- 53:14Kay more back out to right guard, do you try Brody Meadows?
- 53:18Because I think the times we've seen Brody on the field, Brody
- 53:22does have a little nasty streak to him.
- 53:25Put the tackle, right tackle. Yeah.
- 53:30Again, The thing is, so we got, all you're saying is we got to
- 53:33try to try something. We got to try.
- 53:35You got to try something because what we doing is it ain't
- 53:38working. All right, I'm.
- 53:40I'm going to let y'all boys do this next one real, real easy.
- 53:44What must we do better when other teams run the ball at us?
- 53:48Tackle them. Wrap them up, wrap them up.
- 53:52Wrap them up. We ain't going to say no more on
- 53:54that because you because I think what we saw from Week 1 to week
- 53:59two in the run fits like they got that, they got that
- 54:02adjusted. Probably a big piece was Tisdale
- 54:04being at Mike a lot the older guy in the room.
- 54:08Coach mentioned that. But that got better.
- 54:11We got to get the tackling better.
- 54:13I got a feeling they're going to be doing they're going to be
- 54:15chasing the giant donut around the drill fields and then the
- 54:18Beamer Barn this week tackle get them down all right.
- 54:23But the big one is and we've mentioned it, we've got to get
- 54:27better rushing to ball. We talked about the offensive
- 54:29line, Brian, you've mentioned a couple times you mentioned it
- 54:32last week and I think on a couple plays we saw it where if
- 54:35we did have the wider receiving alignments it would open up the
- 54:38rushing lanes. But I'm I'm, I'm just going to
- 54:41y'all just y'all say it because we we've eventually we've we've
- 54:45led up to this point and whichever one y'all want to lead
- 54:49and. I'm on.
- 54:50I'm agreeing with y'all we. We talked about it already.
- 54:54Yeah, it just. Seems to be your your bag man.
- 54:57I mean yeah when you think about the just we got to create
- 55:03something you know what I'm saying and and teams are
- 55:05starting to load the box and they're starting to get in there
- 55:07tight. So why not spread it out if you
- 55:10can spread it out. And again, when you talk about,
- 55:14I'll say it when you talk about when drones got in the game and
- 55:18then that lane did open up, he took it and ran for about 15
- 55:22yards. You got to understand, he ran
- 55:25for just about more yards than we had the whole game on that
- 55:28one run. And I'm not saying that he's God
- 55:30or he needs to be the starter and this and that.
- 55:32I don't. I'm telling you, we got to do
- 55:35some things different. We're going to have to get them
- 55:37out-of-the-box. Spreading them out a little bit
- 55:39will help us do that. Now spreading them out a little
- 55:42bit, being hitting some receivers is going to help as
- 55:44well. But I think it does open up some
- 55:47run lanes as well. Give me drones for Q B1 this
- 55:50week. That's what I want.
- 55:52That's what I want to and I think the big thing to me,
- 55:56Tally, you kind of alluded to it, but I mean, I'll, I'll kind
- 55:59of under score it here. Decisiveness, like whether
- 56:04whether he hit or missed, he did it with confidence and
- 56:09decisiveness. If we can get that to work more
- 56:14consistently then we might be on to something.
- 56:16Yeah, definitely. I agreed.
- 56:20I agree, Donald. I mean, I agree, just to give
- 56:24myself a chance, especially this week.
- 56:26Especially this week I think if Grant is hot at.
- 56:28Least see what you got. Especially with, you know,
- 56:30Grant's at least banged up, so he's not going to be whatever
- 56:35the best version of Grant Wells is.
- 56:37Whatever we would get against Rutgers, we're not getting that
- 56:40this weekend. We're not.
- 56:40Getting this week. We're not getting this week so
- 56:42but the whole. Drones in there.
- 56:44See if you can scheme up some different things to get this.
- 56:47Offensive run game going and give them your best fucking
- 56:51shot. But I'll say it and I'll say it
- 56:53again. I've said it to y'all and this
- 56:56has been my big thing. The quarterback has to run the
- 57:00ball. The quarterback has to pull on
- 57:01those RPO's. That quarterback starts pulling.
- 57:04That linebacker that was in the gap that Parker missed, You know
- 57:07what? He might be taking sidesteps.
- 57:10And the next thing you know but she was actually got a lane to
- 57:12still go to and somebody brought up a good point.
- 57:16Somebody brought up a good point.
- 57:17I think it was Billy Ray actually who wanted to space
- 57:20this when he says I don't know if they are giving them an
- 57:24option to pull the ball. I don't know if they're just
- 57:27telling them to line up and hand it off.
- 57:30We don't know. I hope you.
- 57:32I hope that ain't what we're doing.
- 57:35If somebody knows Tyler boy and call him tonight, what is it?
- 57:38It's about 10:30 there. He should be good and he should
- 57:41be good and showered and eating and fingers are orange from
- 57:45eating Cheetos. Somebody text him and tell him
- 57:49you can't run an RPO unless you give an option.
- 57:52Run past option. We need.
- 57:54We need some options in there. Stop telling them just to hand
- 57:57the ball off if that's what you do, but that's a good question
- 58:01if they doing that. I mean, I'm sure that I'm sure
- 58:05some of those are design runs and he's carrying out a fate,
- 58:09but that's got it that that's as a design to set up.
- 58:14What you do later call later in a different series, whatever it
- 58:18may be, right? So at some point some some of
- 58:23these reads are not getting read properly or if it's one of those
- 58:28where it's getting slow played, eventually you got to just see
- 58:32what you do by swinging it out there, see what you do by
- 58:34keeping it. You can't just keep handing the
- 58:36ball off into the into the gap, especially when we're not
- 58:39blocking it very well up front, yeah.
- 58:43No, we'll we'll see. So again, we all think it's got
- 58:46to happen. We think we flipped a count on
- 58:48drones this week. We shall see Saturday at 3:30.
- 58:52Big 10 network I think is what it's on.
- 58:56Thanks. Sounds right.
- 58:58Alright. Well, before we get to know the
- 58:59enemy and that is of Rutgers, we do have some ads from our
- 59:05digital partners and Main Street Pharmacy.
- 59:09I can probably save you a lot of money and I can take a lot
- 59:12better care of you. That's pretty much it.
- 59:14My name is Jeremy Counts and I'm a pharmacist.
- 59:17I own and operate Main Street Pharmacy here in downtown
- 59:19Blacksburg. My brother's A pharmacist.
- 59:21I'm a pharmacist. My uncle's A pharmacist.
- 59:22My dad's a pharmacist. I remember he would give me M
- 59:25and M's to count in little pill counters.
- 59:27This is something I've always done and I'm just lucky that
- 59:30what I know so well is something that I can do and feel good
- 59:34about it and get back to people. Pharmacies are your frontline
- 59:37defense. Pharmacy's job is to make sure
- 59:39you're getting optimal care for the lowest price possible.
- 59:42Also, we take the pressure off of emergency rooms.
- 59:45I'll tell people immediately when they need to go to the
- 59:47doctor, or I'll tell them if they just need a cream over the
- 59:49counter. If there's something that isn't
- 59:51commercially available, if it's something that's not available
- 59:54in a certain strength or a certain form or anything like
- 59:56that, we'll make it Tailor made medications.
- 59:59Some of those options save people a lot of money.
- 1:00:01What motivates me? I get to take care of people and
- 1:00:03limit Blacksburg. That's all I need.
- 1:00:08As we take a quick break, we'd like to tell you about getting
- 1:00:10your free website report from our digital partner in
- 1:00:12Grassroots Digital Marketing Studio.
- 1:00:14They'll tell you how your website ranks on Google onsite
- 1:00:17SEO and social media. No commitment to buy anything.
- 1:00:20You can get your free report by visiting grassroots
- 1:00:23digitalstudio.com/free Dash website Dash Report.
- 1:00:28Now back to the episode. All righty, and we are back to
- 1:00:32know the enemy. Let's talk about Rutgers a
- 1:00:34little bit. Let's start on the offensive
- 1:00:36side of the ball, Mr. Siegler. Let's get a little skiing.
- 1:00:40What they're going to be running.
- 1:00:42We should be familiar with this. Boy, it's a little Smash Mouth
- 1:00:44spread. RPO.
- 1:00:49Hey, run. We want to run.
- 1:00:52I'll give you a fun fact, too. Kirk Sharaka, the offensive
- 1:00:58coordinator at Rutgers, was the offensive coordinator at Penn
- 1:01:02State University when Tyler Bowen was the COOC in 2020.
- 1:01:07So we got a little former COOC battle here, so that's going to
- 1:01:14be interesting. Very interesting, probably know
- 1:01:17each other like. Like the back of their hand.
- 1:01:20So I mean they at least got to know each other for one year.
- 1:01:23So they they kind of know probably tendencies to a point.
- 1:01:26But I mean Sharaka's offense, I mean it's a balanced attack.
- 1:01:32They're pretty much near even in passing and rushing yardage
- 1:01:34through two games so far. They utilize a athletic dual
- 1:01:38threat quarterback to enhance their run game.
- 1:01:41The the it's going to be design runs, it's going to be RPO's and
- 1:01:45it's going to be you know, keepers out of the backfield,
- 1:01:49you know when a play breaks down.
- 1:01:50So you'll you'll see all three versions of of the quarterback
- 1:01:53getting in the action there. As far as the passing game, it's
- 1:01:57a lot of a lot of bubble and slip screens, so you're going to
- 1:02:00see that a lot in the passing game.
- 1:02:02They will go vertical, but they're going to use that
- 1:02:04lateral stuff to kind of set all that up.
- 1:02:07And their RPO is also very slant heavy so that they will use the
- 1:02:12RPO anywhere on the field. It's not just a red zone or
- 1:02:16scoring area type of play for them.
- 1:02:18It's something that they'll use anywhere on the field and it's
- 1:02:21very, very much slant heavy. They they don't run a whole lot
- 1:02:24of other variations of the RPO in that offense, so.
- 1:02:29Tyler, don't let them come out and run out of shit better than
- 1:02:31us and beat us this weekend, all right?
- 1:02:34Come on, man, let's get some nuts together today or this
- 1:02:39weekend. Going into the talking about the
- 1:02:42enemy a little bit. I'll go first.
- 1:02:45Just introducing their running back.
- 1:02:46Looks like he is a Junior #5 Kyle, Monica.
- 1:02:52I guess that's his last name, I think.
- 1:02:54It's the name Guy. I'm not Managa Manunga.
- 1:02:57Something crazy, but anyway. That's what tally I butchered
- 1:03:00more names on this program than anybody.
- 1:03:03You know, China. Want me to last?
- 1:03:05Yeah, he Curtis and butchering names is like this man.
- 1:03:08You good? I watched him, man.
- 1:03:10They use them a little bit out of the backfield he is.
- 1:03:13About a 5 foot nine £200 or about a 2205210 running back.
- 1:03:20Class of 2020. A Don Briscoe Prep product, he
- 1:03:26was a low three star. About a 82 offers from Rutgers,
- 1:03:33Air Force, Army and Buffalo. Looks like the only offers that
- 1:03:38he had coming out of high school he's got about. 200 yards this
- 1:03:44year, averaging about I think 214, something like that.
- 1:03:48He's averaging about 5 yards to carry and he is catching the
- 1:03:52ball out of the backfield as well, so might have a hands full
- 1:03:57with him. You know, just them using him in
- 1:04:00a couple of different ways. What you got on him?
- 1:04:02See. Yeah, man.
- 1:04:03I mean, he's a, he's a running back, runs with good balance.
- 1:04:05I mean he talked about his kind of credentials there.
- 1:04:08This is a classic Schiano development type project that's
- 1:04:11really turned into a pretty solid playmaker.
- 1:04:14He'll shake off tackles if you don't wrap kind of kind of like
- 1:04:17we saw with Mockaby. So expect a little bit more of
- 1:04:20that, got a wrap up, bring down good vision and patience at the
- 1:04:24point of attack which would you know you need that in the the
- 1:04:27Smash Mouth spread there especially with the RPO elements
- 1:04:30thrown in there and and he's used in the passing game like
- 1:04:33Tally you alluded to, mostly on kind of swings and wheels.
- 1:04:37There's not a ton else it's usually going to be something on
- 1:04:40the perimeter or they'll slip him out of the backfield a
- 1:04:42little bit. But they're not throwing screens
- 1:04:45to him. All the screens are pretty much
- 1:04:46exclusively to the wideouts. And I will say his loan this
- 1:04:51year is about 25 yards, so he's not a super burner, but they are
- 1:04:58using him as their primary back to get those tough yards.
- 1:05:03Well, they're they're using them what they're supposed to.
- 1:05:04Even for if you told us right now, five is looks great.
- 1:05:07You told us four right now we'd be the happiest fan.
- 1:05:10Base in the country. Let's give them to us because.
- 1:05:14Brian, you mentioned up at the beginning they are a pretty
- 1:05:17balanced team if you look across their stat lines and one guy who
- 1:05:21has reaping the benefits of that is Jaquay Jackson, 6 foot 290
- 1:05:27pound wide receiver out of Sierra Catholic in Pittsburgh,
- 1:05:30PA. He was a division to transfer
- 1:05:34from California. Pennsylvania University.
- 1:05:37Look that up. It is a real university.
- 1:05:39I'm making it. I'm making it up.
- 1:05:42And while he was there last year with that school, 1178 guards 13
- 1:05:50touchdowns on 77 receptions in a senior near there.
- 1:05:55He transferred up and so far this year.
- 1:06:01You know, first game didn't do much against Rutgers.
- 1:06:03Lit it up last week against Temple. 4 catches, 95 yards,
- 1:06:09including a long one of 65 yards.
- 1:06:13What are we seeing? What?
- 1:06:15What is? What is this one all about?
- 1:06:20Yeah, man. Like you said, he's a transfer
- 1:06:22in he he's got really good hands.
- 1:06:25I like the way he uses his hand. He catches the ball real well in
- 1:06:27traffic. He is a threat in the
- 1:06:32intermediate levels. He can go a little deep on you,
- 1:06:35threat with the screen, but I think the biggest attribute he
- 1:06:39has is that he catches the ball well in traffic and can go after
- 1:06:41some jump balls as well. Yeah, And you know, he's
- 1:06:46definitely not the only guy. He, he's sort of the smaller guy
- 1:06:50because we kind of look across it, you know, look at look at
- 1:06:56Isaiah Washington. I've got stuff away just for a
- 1:06:58second here. Isaiah Washington is another one
- 1:07:01of their leading receivers. He's 6 foot, 3200 plus pounds,
- 1:07:08big guy, 55 catches, you know, close to 60 yards.
- 1:07:14And the whole thing is a lot of these guys for Rutgers right
- 1:07:18now. They're seasoned.
- 1:07:20They're seasoned, obviously. Jackson tons of time down at D2.
- 1:07:27Cleans the time down at D2, So he's got the experience there
- 1:07:30and I know people can say, well, that's the lower level.
- 1:07:32You know what, That's one of the best things about the Portland
- 1:07:35transfers thing. It is you've got a guy who's at
- 1:07:37a lower level can come up and play.
- 1:07:39Washington's been down at Rutgers since 19.
- 1:07:43So the the one thing I'm not seeing and Brian really didn't
- 1:07:46mention much of it, is you're not seeing a lot from them.
- 1:07:51As far as passing game goes like like they're staying balanced.
- 1:07:57But they are skewing more towards the run game I've.
- 1:08:01Been seeing that as well. So, and The thing is, they've
- 1:08:05been playing defense. They've also in Cal.
- 1:08:07I don't know if this is possible.
- 1:08:09Did you know they played two offenses worse than the Hokies?
- 1:08:13I think it was possible. I really didn't think that was
- 1:08:15possible. So a lot of, a lot of people are
- 1:08:18concerned like this is a really good defense.
- 1:08:20And it's like they've been playing, they played Temple and
- 1:08:23they played Northwestern. Listen, Temple can be up and
- 1:08:26down. And what's going on at
- 1:08:28Northwestern, right? Now Oh yeah, you expected them
- 1:08:30to have a rough. Oh my God.
- 1:08:32Like. Yeah, people transferring out.
- 1:08:34The coach gets in trouble. You got people talking about a
- 1:08:37Dick car wash. I don't know what all of that
- 1:08:40stuff like you expected them to have a a rough year, so that's
- 1:08:45kind of crazy. I was looking at that stuff as
- 1:08:47well. When you talk about just their
- 1:08:50by receivers to the running backs getting to, I guess I'll
- 1:08:54go ahead and and get into the next.
- 1:08:56Player that we're talking about the quarterback.
- 1:08:58You know we talked about where I received him.
- 1:09:00We talked about running back. That quarterback Gavin Winsett
- 1:09:05looks like he is a four-star. He was a four-star quarterback
- 1:09:10out of Kentucky. Owensburg, Owensboro, KY.
- 1:09:15So I'm not sure what that is, but he was a a four-star 2021
- 1:09:21kid and he had. You know, he had tons of offers
- 1:09:25from different places. He was a projected like fourth
- 1:09:29to seven round guy. They were kind of comparing him
- 1:09:32to a Jason Stedham, excuse me, Jared Stedham, so Auburn
- 1:09:37cornerback. So I mean he's he's a ball
- 1:09:41player, he can run it, he can throw it.
- 1:09:45Looking at him, he's about 6, three, £200.
- 1:09:48So, good size, kid, but kind of what me and Curtis were talking
- 1:09:52about. They are really balanced as far
- 1:09:56as running and throwing. Their number one receiver has
- 1:09:59about 90 yards or 91 yards. Of course, we talked about the
- 1:10:04running back when said has about 360 yards, 2 touchdowns this
- 1:10:11year. So not a ton of touchdowns in
- 1:10:14the air, you know? Not a ton of yards.
- 1:10:16And and and for. Comparison purposes Grant Wells
- 1:10:21has 494 yards, 5 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, Wimps.
- 1:10:26It doesn't have any interceptions, but again, it
- 1:10:28doesn't look like he's thrown about 50 times.
- 1:10:31He's 27 for 50 this year. So Brian, you got anything on
- 1:10:35him? Yeah.
- 1:10:36I mean, you know, when you look at him, he's a really good
- 1:10:38athlete. He can make plays with his legs,
- 1:10:42makes really decisive reads when they have that RPO and that's
- 1:10:44really what kind of gets that offensive going is that he knows
- 1:10:47how to make the decisive reads, get the ball to where it needs
- 1:10:50to be, whether it's keep it, whether it's hand it, whether
- 1:10:52it's throw it. He's usually making the right
- 1:10:55choice there, not shocking in a Schiano coach team.
- 1:10:59I mean, they're going to be mostly pretty disciplined across
- 1:11:02the board and it's going to start with the quarterback
- 1:11:05position as well. He's accurate enough in the
- 1:11:08short to intermediate game for what they do.
- 1:11:10He will miss some open receivers from time to time.
- 1:11:13He's not always accurate, but throws a pretty good deep ball
- 1:11:18though. He can push it down the field
- 1:11:20when he needs to and you know some of the some of the design
- 1:11:24runs. Are are are, you know, drawn up
- 1:11:28for him, but most of his yards are going to be off the RPO in
- 1:11:31the scrambles. It's not going to be necessarily
- 1:11:33something that's designed specifically for him to to rush
- 1:11:35the ball. Well, and as soon as soon as he
- 1:11:39said it tally, I just, I kind of sunk because it's that he's a
- 1:11:42quarterback that makes decisive decisions in the RPO.
- 1:11:46And when you hear that, you know that's why they're having
- 1:11:49success. Even though the numbers aren't
- 1:11:51there, you probably know they're they're pushing the ball down
- 1:11:53field, they're playing defense, they're probably getting first
- 1:11:56down. They not do anything
- 1:11:58spectacular, but they're not losing games.
- 1:12:03And and complimentary football. Oh my goodness.
- 1:12:05Oh my goodness. Well, let let's flip over, Let's
- 1:12:08talk to the last piece, as we always do, and let's talk about
- 1:12:11the offensive line. Brian said he took a look and he
- 1:12:14felt like big #72. Holland Pierce is the kind of
- 1:12:19the the anchor of that line. 6 foot eight, 230 pounds, boys.
- 1:12:26Just he was 68320 coming out of high school just a couple years
- 1:12:30ago. Guess how many offers he had?
- 1:12:3333. Zero.
- 1:12:36He did the Blue Tarski 0.0 offers other than Rutgers.
- 1:12:41That was it. He went down to Fuma for a year,
- 1:12:44transferred back in and now Brian.
- 1:12:46What is he doing on that offensive line and what do they
- 1:12:49look like? He's the right tackle.
- 1:12:53He's probably overall the best player from a balanced
- 1:12:55perspective, pass versus run. He's not really.
- 1:12:58He doesn't really have a weakness.
- 1:13:01He's not necessarily elite. You wouldn't call him an elite
- 1:13:03right tackle, but he is very solid in in both aspects there.
- 1:13:08Overall for the line, I mean they're they're slightly better
- 1:13:11than Purdue, they're not a significantly big jump, but
- 1:13:16they're more disciplined and sound than Purdue was.
- 1:13:20They're not, you're not going to get a big mistake from them like
- 1:13:22you would against Purdue or or an ODU.
- 1:13:26Overall solid rushing attack and and they will allow some
- 1:13:32penetration on those run plays though so we do have a chance to
- 1:13:35pitch them for some negative plays and that's going to be
- 1:13:38important getting them behind the sticks and making wimps that
- 1:13:40have to throw from the pocket a little bit more and and not be
- 1:13:42able to kind of attack us with the RPO as much.
- 1:13:46And you know, we talked about pressures, they they've only
- 1:13:49sacked a lot of sack on wimps at once this year, but he's been
- 1:13:53pressured a ton. So if we can keep that up and
- 1:13:56keep the consistent pressure that we've seen so far, even
- 1:13:59though we didn't necessarily get home a lot against Purdue, if we
- 1:14:01can keep that pressure consistent, that's going to make
- 1:14:03it a little more difficult for him.
- 1:14:05There's there's there's one concern I have about that Brian
- 1:14:09and that is going to be we're going to have to stake in, we're
- 1:14:11going to have to stay in our lanes because obviously Tally,
- 1:14:15you mentioned a kid get that many offers and that athletic,
- 1:14:19he's going to break contained and he's going to go upfield.
- 1:14:23And he's athletic enough to get not, not Hudson Card got, you
- 1:14:27know, 5-6 yards a couple times. It's going to be 2530.
- 1:14:33Brian, let me ask both. Y'all this because Kelly, you
- 1:14:37read up on him, looked at a little tape.
- 1:14:38Brian, you obviously looked at a little more tape too, or we're
- 1:14:42going to have to spy him with somebody.
- 1:14:45Would you? I think you have to on obvious
- 1:14:48passing downs. I don't think you spy him every
- 1:14:50play, but you spy him on that obvious passing downs.
- 1:14:53Yeah, because he's a threat to pick up the pick up the first
- 1:14:55down with his legs. I'm more scared of his legs than
- 1:14:58his arm. Now he can beat you with his
- 1:14:59arm, but I'm more scared in those long yardage situations
- 1:15:04of, you know, a guy drops back, he hits a good, a good pass
- 1:15:08that's open. You can live with that.
- 1:15:10What you hate is having really good coverage and then the
- 1:15:13quarterback break containing, get a first down on the 3rd and
- 1:15:16long because that that pisses you off, that frustrates you.
- 1:15:19I know they're both first downs, but it just it it doesn't seem
- 1:15:25to hurt as bad. It from a mentality standpoint
- 1:15:28of a defense when you do all the things right and they still get
- 1:15:31a first down versus when you kind of let let something slip
- 1:15:34by and all of a sudden the guy takes off and he gets the first
- 1:15:37down with his legs. Right.
- 1:15:39Absolutely. All right, well, that's the
- 1:15:40offense and some names to knowing things to look for.
- 1:15:43Let's flip over to the defense and Brian, what we got scheme
- 1:15:46wise going on here. This one's kind of familiar too.
- 1:15:49We got a 425 with the true nickel package.
- 1:15:54Well, she auto's done that for years, so that doesn't shock me.
- 1:15:58That doesn't shock you at all. I mean, they're they're not
- 1:16:02overly impressive, but they are extremely sound, like nothing
- 1:16:07about them necessarily jumps off the tape.
- 1:16:11But they don't fuck up a lot. You're not going to catch them
- 1:16:14out of position very often. You're not going to see them
- 1:16:17blow a ton of coverage. You're not going to get those
- 1:16:20big chunk plays because of something they did wrong.
- 1:16:22You got to do something right. So that's going to be the big
- 1:16:26thing. But to that point, they haven't
- 1:16:29really been tested much this year.
- 1:16:30I mean, they played Northwestern, that's in a
- 1:16:32fucking crisis mode, and then they played Temple that barely
- 1:16:35got past Akron. So I'm not really from from a
- 1:16:40from a test standpoint, they haven't really been pushed yet.
- 1:16:43Hopefully we could at least do that in the passing game, give
- 1:16:46them a little bit of fit there and they do have, like I said,
- 1:16:49they do have a true nickel package.
- 1:16:50It's actually A33 stack with a tight look of their DN's there.
- 1:16:55So very similar to what we've seen from Purdue and from ODU
- 1:17:00the last two weeks when they go into that nickel package.
- 1:17:04And some of the players that will talk about, I guess I'll
- 1:17:07talk about the first player that should be very familiar to a lot
- 1:17:11of Virginia Tech fans, Tyrene Powell.
- 1:17:15He was actually committed to Virginia Tech.
- 1:17:18And flipped, I think on early signing day.
- 1:17:22He is a New Jersey kid. He only had three offers from
- 1:17:25what they're reporting. It was Virginia Tech, it was
- 1:17:28Rutgers and it was Temple. He was about listed at a high
- 1:17:38school there in New Jersey, but they've got him listed now at
- 1:17:4265245 so. That's a big guy, you know what
- 1:17:48I'm saying? Looking at his production, I
- 1:17:50think he's averaging around 8 tackles a game.
- 1:17:54So not crazy, crazy numbers, but he is.
- 1:17:58He is around the, he is around the football and like you said,
- 1:18:02he's steady. Last year he had about 70
- 1:18:05tackles. I think he had about 3 sacks.
- 1:18:07I got to go back and check that for sure, but I know he had
- 1:18:09about 70 tackles last year. So he he flies around the field.
- 1:18:14That we'll have to account for on their defense.
- 1:18:17Playing linebacker, Brian, what you got away?
- 1:18:20Yeah, I mean, he plays that will or backer spot in that 4/2.
- 1:18:25He's really great in pursuit that that's really probably his
- 1:18:28bread and butter. Sometimes he does lose coverage
- 1:18:30responsibility, contain responsibility because of that
- 1:18:34overzealousness to kind of get in that pursuit angle.
- 1:18:39Really good gap discipline in in the run game.
- 1:18:42So if it's not a contained position, he does a good job of
- 1:18:45getting his fits on the interior there, making plays with a lot
- 1:18:48of scrimmage. And they will occasionally bring
- 1:18:51him on pressure, sometimes up the middle, sometimes off the
- 1:18:54edge. So he he, he is a pretty
- 1:18:55proficient pass rusher as well from that blitzing linebacker
- 1:18:59position. So kind of hurts you in a lot of
- 1:19:02different ways. But again, kind of like the
- 1:19:05defense. Not, not elite, but pretty sound
- 1:19:09and a good ballplayer. Overall, yeah, definitely.
- 1:19:14Awesome. Well, let's let's go from the
- 1:19:17linebacker room, let's go up to the defensive line because
- 1:19:19someone that just looking around looking at his background kind
- 1:19:23of stood out to me was Renee Conga, Renee Conga, A2020,
- 1:19:31commit from Canada. He was considered the best high
- 1:19:35school prospect in Canada when he came out six foot four, about
- 1:19:42£290.00. And this season you know, not
- 1:19:46looking everything, but sometimes when you don't see a
- 1:19:48lot of stats but you see something like he's already got
- 1:19:52a forced fumble, he's got a sack, another tackle for loss, a
- 1:19:54total of five tackles. I want to know I wanted Brian to
- 1:19:59look at him, to figure out, hey, where's he playing and what's he
- 1:20:02doing because. Just looking at reading about
- 1:20:06him, it's like he seems like a pretty athletic guy because he
- 1:20:08came out at only 240 and now he's already up to 290.
- 1:20:12What? What is he doing?
- 1:20:13Brian Yeah, he's actually their primary interior defensive
- 1:20:17tackle. He plays that one, that two eye
- 1:20:20technique in their base package. He'll slide to the zero and
- 1:20:24nickel. Yeah, deceptively quick with the
- 1:20:27motor, you know he said he's up to 290 now.
- 1:20:30He's probably, he's probably plays about.
- 1:20:33You know, £10 lighter as far as his speed and quickness and he
- 1:20:36occupies blockers, pretty well considered.
- 1:20:38He's undersized for probably an interior lineman, probably just
- 1:20:42a little bit under what you would expect there.
- 1:20:46But it, like I said, occupies blockers well and hopefully we
- 1:20:50can handle him in there in the middle.
- 1:20:51But they do rotate their interior lineman a lot, so we'll
- 1:20:54see if they end up, you know how much, how many snaps he gets in
- 1:20:59this game. Well, I find it interesting to
- 1:21:02see it here, a guy playing and and I know it's their nickel
- 1:21:05set, so they're probably doing it for schematic reasons.
- 1:21:08But to play a guy that's 64290 ish on a 0, to play him over top
- 1:21:13of the center, I mean, what are they trying to do with that?
- 1:21:16Yeah, I mean it's, you know, they're not going to the nickel
- 1:21:18unless they're trying to get after the passer.
- 1:21:20So, I mean, he's he's a guy, like I said, with it, with his
- 1:21:22motor and his skill set, he can get by interior lineman pretty
- 1:21:26quick and make that play so. That's really what it's all
- 1:21:29about, getting getting kind of those mismatches on the interior
- 1:21:32for pass rush purposes. Nice.
- 1:21:35I will look at. We'll look at one additional guy
- 1:21:38on the defensive side of the ball and that is the defensive
- 1:21:41back. Flip Dixon.
- 1:21:44Flip Dixon, also known as Michael Dixon.
- 1:21:47If you're trying to look him up, he was an original commit to
- 1:21:52Minnesota. He was ranked in 87 as he came
- 1:21:54out of high school, ranked as an 87 when he hit the portal
- 1:21:57transferring from Minnesota over to Rutgers.
- 1:22:03And so far in his career, 59 tackles, 2 1/2 tackles were
- 1:22:08lost. Only one pick 5 past
- 1:22:10deflections, so obviously, you know, Not getting a ton of PT
- 1:22:17his first three seasons. Finally seeing the field more
- 1:22:19this year than he had any previous year.
- 1:22:23What are we taking a look at when we take a look at this guy?
- 1:22:26You know, 6 to 210 pound, Where does he play exactly?
- 1:22:29Brian In the defensive secondary #10.
- 1:22:33Yeah, let's start with his name. He sounds like somebody's uncle,
- 1:22:35right? Flip, flip, Dicks.
- 1:22:39But no he he plays boundary safety.
- 1:22:43Not used a ton in man coverage, mostly kind of read and react.
- 1:22:45Zone type of safety there. Really great and run support.
- 1:22:51He comes up, makes plays at or near the line of scrimmage very
- 1:22:54well. But where I've seen some
- 1:22:57weakness in this game is that he can get turned around if there's
- 1:23:00a double move or something where or you can get him kind of lean
- 1:23:04in one way and then change direction.
- 1:23:06Doesn't change direction as well as you'd probably like him to,
- 1:23:08but he's really good at. Diagnosing and kind of coming up
- 1:23:14and make your place. So if he's moving forward, he's
- 1:23:16a danger. If you get him back peddling a
- 1:23:18little bit, you can probably get a little bit of a of run against
- 1:23:22him. Good deal, good deal.
- 1:23:25So again, there's what you're looking at.
- 1:23:27You're kind of looking at a very similar tight defense that you
- 1:23:30see with the Hokies every week and there are some players
- 1:23:34there, obviously that you should be on the lookout for while
- 1:23:38watching the game. Well, next thing we're going to
- 1:23:41do, boys, we got four of them here.
- 1:23:43We're going somebody's taking one, somebody's taking two.
- 1:23:45We got the Hokies keys to victory tally.
- 1:23:49You see them all up there. We talked about them.
- 1:23:51Which one are you strongest towards on this?
- 1:23:53The the the number one that we have on there, I think it's
- 1:23:56number one in our hearts and mind right now.
- 1:23:59Don't let their quarterback kill us with his legs.
- 1:24:02As a Hokie fan, how many games have we watched that?
- 1:24:05Usually it's a backup quarterback that comes in and
- 1:24:09freaking. Kills us with his legs.
- 1:24:12We got to be disciplined. We got to stay in our gaps.
- 1:24:16We got to get home when we can get a sack we got.
- 1:24:19We cannot let their quarterback kill us with his legs this week.
- 1:24:23They're going to be amped. They're at home.
- 1:24:26They got a chance to go three and oh, we got to go in that.
- 1:24:30We got to go in there and we got to want it.
- 1:24:32I mean, sometimes going on the road is sometimes going on the
- 1:24:38road is good for your team. Because it's just you and the
- 1:24:42boys and you just pull together and you don't worry about your
- 1:24:45girlfriend coming over before the game.
- 1:24:47You don't worry about all the extra stuff.
- 1:24:49You're all just there with your gamemates and it's just y'all
- 1:24:53against the world. It's just y'all against that,
- 1:24:55y'all against the fans. You know they're fans.
- 1:24:59So I know that the Hokies are going to take some fans up there
- 1:25:02and we're going to show out like we always do, but we could not
- 1:25:05let that quarterback kill us with his legs.
- 1:25:07Yeah, Billy Pad and his crew are going to be out there in full
- 1:25:10force. So it'll be it'll be a large
- 1:25:11contingency at least somewhere in that stadium.
- 1:25:14Come on, man, represent up there, Billy, Billy and them
- 1:25:17Daleks going up. I'm sure Kenny going up too.
- 1:25:20Yeah, I'm. I'm going to go flip it and say
- 1:25:22I'm with you as well. But it's the quarterback on our
- 1:25:25side. Quarterback has become part of
- 1:25:27the run game this week. It's going to help the offensive
- 1:25:30line out. It's going to make that defense,
- 1:25:32make decisions that in the first two weeks, because of who
- 1:25:36they're playing, they've been able to be sound right, Brian,
- 1:25:39they have no one that can hurt them.
- 1:25:41They have no sort of things like that that can hurt them.
- 1:25:45So I think it's that Billy we know you're going to represent
- 1:25:49up there, man. We know Billy's going to be
- 1:25:50leading the leading the cheers, screaming his lungs out.
- 1:25:54But we get that quarterback running game going.
- 1:25:58You're going to see this offense look different.
- 1:26:00You're going to see the line play better and love it.
- 1:26:04We got to do it. Got to do it, Brian.
- 1:26:07We'll let you wrap up with two, man.
- 1:26:09What's the first one? Yeah, I'm going to say this.
- 1:26:13We got we we we didn't tackle great last week.
- 1:26:16So this is a team that runs they, they run the ball pretty
- 1:26:19well. They run a lot of screens.
- 1:26:21You got to stay disciplined, You got to tackle well.
- 1:26:24You don't do those two things. It's going to be a long day, all
- 1:26:28right. And I'm going to wrap this up
- 1:26:30with kind of something a little bit similar.
- 1:26:32We're going to just flip it back, like Curtis said, to the
- 1:26:34other side of the ball. We got to use scheme.
- 1:26:37We got to use quick passes to supplement the run game,
- 1:26:42essentially turning pass plays into run plays.
- 1:26:46Get the ball into the hands of the receivers, into the hands of
- 1:26:49the running back quickly in the passing game.
- 1:26:52Let them make some plays in space.
- 1:26:54Spread this defense out a little bit, so there will be at least a
- 1:26:57little bit of room to maneuver in the middle of that defense.
- 1:27:01And you know, if you do it in a quick way, you're not
- 1:27:03endangering your quarterback because you're not dropping them
- 1:27:05back five or seven yards in the pocket and having to sling it
- 1:27:10every time. If we can get into better those
- 1:27:12third and manageable situations, you don't get your quarterback
- 1:27:15killed either, Especially when you're probably, as Curtis
- 1:27:17alluded to, going to be using your quarterback in the run game
- 1:27:20a little bit more this week. So freaking loosely.
- 1:27:24All right, well boys, we get to where it is every week.
- 1:27:27It is prediction time before we say our prediction, Shelton is
- 1:27:31not here with us this week. But Shelton has not only made
- 1:27:34the prediction for this game, he made all the other predictions
- 1:27:38too. When we get the big screeners in
- 1:27:39a few minutes and I wish we we got we got to start doing when
- 1:27:43he can't come home show you got to make a three, a 2 minute
- 1:27:46video and we're going to post it on here.
- 1:27:48We'll write that down as a future thing.
- 1:27:50But Shelton, I think Shelton. Shelton was up in the box last
- 1:27:55week watching the Purdue game. Sheldon's heard.
- 1:27:58And Shelton's taking the bad guys.
- 1:28:00He's taking the Scarlet Knights 2414.
- 1:28:03Brian, who you got? Yeah, I think Sheldon watched
- 1:28:06that offensive line really close this last few days and I think
- 1:28:10that's what he's feeling right now.
- 1:28:11And I I don't blame him, but I think drones comes in and gives
- 1:28:16the offense a little bit of pop. I think the defense steps up.
- 1:28:20I think the defense understands the urgency of the situation
- 1:28:23that we're facing right now. And I think the the good guys go
- 1:28:26up to Piscataway and come away with 1/24/21.
- 1:28:30Alrighty, I am not far off. Here's why I'm not far off.
- 1:28:35Because last week on offense we played AD minus almost failed.
- 1:28:42We still within one touchdown. Last week we played A/C, maybe C
- 1:28:46minus. Defensive game.
- 1:28:48We didn't get home. We missed some tackles.
- 1:28:51We let screwed up. Things happen.
- 1:28:52We played a pretty crappy game overall.
- 1:28:55We lost by one score. We lost by one score.
- 1:29:01First of all, before we do this, PB says no, they're not getting
- 1:29:0624. No, Pete, they're not getting
- 1:29:0824. Hokies win 2017 power on drones,
- 1:29:12runs for one touchdown at least. Sally, we're going to let you
- 1:29:16close this one out, man. Where?
- 1:29:17Are we? I know y'all going to, I know
- 1:29:19y'all going to feel good about this, but.
- 1:29:22I'm taking Rutgers, man. I'm going to say 2821 Rutgers.
- 1:29:26I got them taking it now. I'm going to tell you why I did
- 1:29:30that. I am going under the assumption
- 1:29:33that Cunningham knows what he's talking about because he's the
- 1:29:37one that put out the that put out the depth chart.
- 1:29:40And I got Grant Wells as my Q B1 on that depth chart.
- 1:29:43So I'm going as Grant, as the Q, B1 and I'm going we lose by one
- 1:29:47score because that's what we've been doing in the past now.
- 1:29:51If this game starts and I see drones in the backfield, I might
- 1:29:55feel a little different, but I got to go with what I see right
- 1:29:57now. I got to go with my man,
- 1:29:59Cunningham said. Because that's my guy, so I'm
- 1:30:03gonna play Rutgers 2821, me and Brian going, Hunch's drone star
- 1:30:09and Tally says. Until he sees one taking the
- 1:30:12first nap and he ain't going over.
- 1:30:14Yeah, and let's go ahead and let's go ahead and throw the
- 1:30:16graphic up here so we can take a look at what we got here.
- 1:30:19Big screeners, other games going on on Saturday.
- 1:30:24I can't wait. By the way, Tally, I'm heading
- 1:30:26over to Sigla's house Saturday afternoon.
- 1:30:29Me, the wife, the kids, he going grill us some burgers, he going,
- 1:30:33you know, we going, we going to watch the game, we going to have
- 1:30:36a lot of good fun. And you know what?
- 1:30:40They go right there. That's up first, but the first
- 1:30:43game we're going to take a look at, Brian is Brian's big
- 1:30:47Screener of the Week. Because after he kicks me out of
- 1:30:49his house probably about 7:00, because that's when the kids
- 1:30:51going to crash, he's going to be turning on NBC, Saturday Night
- 1:30:55Football, Purdue versus Syracuse.
- 1:30:59Brian, who you taking in this game?
- 1:31:02Someone we going to play later or someone you've already seen
- 1:31:04on the field? You know what, I was rolling
- 1:31:08this one back and forth. I think this is a pretty even
- 1:31:11matchup. Just like, I think you know the
- 1:31:13matchup last week was I've got the Boilermakers by that much,
- 1:31:22so give me Perdue, Callie who you got on this one, Perdue, or
- 1:31:26you got the cues. I got, I got the Boilermakers,
- 1:31:31man. I got, I'm kind of with Brian on
- 1:31:33this. I think the Boilermakers is
- 1:31:35going to pull this one off. You think the bowler makers
- 1:31:38going to pull it off? Alrighty, alrighty.
- 1:31:41I get to go next. I don't think they are.
- 1:31:45I don't. I honestly don't because they're
- 1:31:48going to have to bring a lot more.
- 1:31:50Syracuse has been playing some cream puffs up front.
- 1:31:52They're going, I believe this, is this at the Dome or is this
- 1:31:55in bust Lafay yet? Let me look here.
- 1:32:00I just like to know who's playing who where I.
- 1:32:02Believe. I was.
- 1:32:03I think it is. It is that Purdue's the.
- 1:32:06Line Brian Brian caught this. He gave me 3 instead of 2 1/2 To
- 1:32:11lay or to get but or to lay Excuse me, but yeah, Purdue's to
- 1:32:17me did not overly impressed me. Anyone with a capable offense is
- 1:32:22going to probably beat them this year and I think Syracuse is
- 1:32:24capable enough. Shelton has taken.
- 1:32:31Drum roll, Syracuse. Thank you All.
- 1:32:35Righty, Brian. By the way, do you have our
- 1:32:37records for last week or can? We get them.
- 1:32:41I thought you grabbed them. But I can grab them.
- 1:32:43I can grab them. You grab them while I pull up
- 1:32:45mine because where I went here, classic rivalry.
- 1:32:49Backyard Brawl, Pitt, West Virginia games going to be in
- 1:32:53Morgantown. This is basically a tight one.
- 1:32:59It's basically a coin flip and I'm going to take Pitt because
- 1:33:04what I've seen of West Virginia this year, they've not been
- 1:33:07impressive. Pitt hasn't impressed me either.
- 1:33:10But I I I think the way it is is I think nor Douzy has his guys,
- 1:33:14Neil Brown. Every loss everybody gets a
- 1:33:18little less and less involved. We know that feeling.
- 1:33:21We've been there before. So give me pit.
- 1:33:24Brian Shelton has Pitt as well. Alrighty Tally, you going to
- 1:33:31make it three in a row or you going oppo?
- 1:33:34No, man, I got to go pit on this one, man.
- 1:33:36I'm going to go pit. And it was hard for me to say
- 1:33:38that just because I hate them, but I hate West Virginia as much
- 1:33:42or more. So I wish they could play a game
- 1:33:45that nobody wins, but I guess somebody got to win and I'm
- 1:33:50going to take pit. So yeah.
- 1:33:53I'm right there with you. I'm taking Pitt as well.
- 1:33:58This line probably be a lot bigger if it was, if it was at
- 1:34:01Pitt. I mean, I think West Virginia is
- 1:34:03getting a lot of home loving here.
- 1:34:04I don't think West Virginia is a very good football team and I
- 1:34:08think every game they're playing at this point is whether or not
- 1:34:13Neil Brown gets closer and closer to getting fired.
- 1:34:16So Narduzzi is obviously firmly entrenched for the foreseeable
- 1:34:22future at Pitt. I feel like that's a much more.
- 1:34:25Stable situation and I think they're going to go and handle
- 1:34:27that game regardless of the raucous environment there in
- 1:34:30Morgantown. Alrighty.
- 1:34:32So pit across the board here now.
- 1:34:35Y'all this is, this is one of those things you know, you get
- 1:34:37college football fame when you see Florida, Tennessee play.
- 1:34:42What do y'all know? It's they hate each other, they
- 1:34:46hate each other. But third Saturday in September,
- 1:34:51we three weeks in the season tally, you picking this one,
- 1:34:54This is going to be, I think at the Swamp Saturday night.
- 1:34:59Let me let me confirm that at the swamps and we going to have
- 1:35:04your big screeners going to be running three games in a row
- 1:35:07right there in the Siglo. Oh yeah, right.
- 1:35:11There. Who you got Tally.
- 1:35:13This is your game. Yeah, I'm going to take
- 1:35:15Tennessee in that game, man. I think Tennessee is going to go
- 1:35:19in there and they're going, they're going to get the win and
- 1:35:21they're going to cover. All righty Shelton is right
- 1:35:25along with Tally on that as well and and I'm with you right now,
- 1:35:29just Florida has no juice. Florida has no juice right now
- 1:35:34and and I don't know and everybody's talking about what
- 1:35:37Napier's recruiting all these guys.
- 1:35:39Well, it's Florida. You I hope you're recruiting
- 1:35:41somewhere in the top ten. You're Florida.
- 1:35:44If you ain't, you're even in bigger trouble.
- 1:35:47Yeah, and I mean their their NIL situation is in shambles right
- 1:35:50now with the. Everything that's coming out
- 1:35:53about that, I don't know if that plays to be bearing on this
- 1:35:55game, but it does play bearing on whether they can kind of
- 1:35:58pull, continue to pull on those recruits.
- 1:35:59But I'm right there. I think Tennessee pulls this one
- 1:36:02out. I think it's it's about a
- 1:36:04touchdown game, maybe a 8-9 point game.
- 1:36:06I don't think it's a blowout, but I think Tennessee handles
- 1:36:09their business down there. And my bad, that was Shelton,
- 1:36:12not Tally's. Because Tally, this is yours.
- 1:36:15Yes, that's mine. And they're giving, Yeah,
- 1:36:19they're giving Ole Miss a lot of points in that game.
- 1:36:23I don't think Georgia Tech is great, but I hate the SEC and
- 1:36:29the ACC. We've been holding our own
- 1:36:31against that against, Well, except for UVA, we've been
- 1:36:35holding our own. So I don't think Georgia Tech
- 1:36:40wins this game, but I think they do cover.
- 1:36:43I think they may lose by about 1410 to 14.
- 1:36:48But that's what that's where I met.
- 1:36:50I got Georgia Tech, I I'm not far behind you because we took
- 1:36:54Tulane last week and we lost that bet.
- 1:36:58But Tulane was playing without a starting quarterback and they
- 1:37:00hung on forever and ever, keeping that A1 score game until
- 1:37:04finally Ole mistook it in the end.
- 1:37:07So I I think probably a full stack Georgia Tech.
- 1:37:10Georgia Tech's going to score 20 points in 1/4 and that's why we
- 1:37:13going to cover right there. They might not do anything
- 1:37:17before or after, but they going to score like 20 plus points in
- 1:37:201/4. There you go.
- 1:37:24Who's Sheldon on on this one? Sheldon went Georgia Tech as
- 1:37:27well. 19 1/2 is so much delay. Yeah, you know what though?
- 1:37:32There we go. I'm going for it.
- 1:37:35So you going for old missile? I, I just don't think, I think
- 1:37:39at some point the day I was going to break and there's going
- 1:37:41to be a run, you know, Curtis said.
- 1:37:43Georgia Tech's going to score 21 quarter.
- 1:37:44I think there's going to be 1/4 where Old Miss kind of puts puts
- 1:37:47a little distance between themselves and and Georgia Tech.
- 1:37:51Anybody will do it. I don't do it.
- 1:37:53He'll he'll run that score. He does not care about that at
- 1:37:57all. All right, two more big game.
- 1:37:59I wouldn't say big game. This is kind of the this is
- 1:38:02truly if y'all look this. If y'all look the next weekend,
- 1:38:06have y'all looked at next weekend yet?
- 1:38:07I haven't looked yet. Now I'm gonna give y'all a
- 1:38:09second real quick y'all. Pull up y'all's computers.
- 1:38:12Go look at next weekend slate. Go look at next weekend.
- 1:38:15Slate. Week 4.
- 1:38:18College football. We're a month in.
- 1:38:20Go look at next weekend's Top 25 slate.
- 1:38:25Yeah, we rolling pretty good. Oklahoma, Cincy, Colorado,
- 1:38:29Oregon, Mississippi, Ole, Ole Miss and Alabama, Arkansas, LSU,
- 1:38:36Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Clemson, FSU.
- 1:38:44I mean, I mean. There's a kid in nothing to
- 1:38:47sneeze at in the next week is this is like an appetizer course
- 1:38:52this week? Next week's Insane and I think
- 1:38:55my kids are playing both in the middle of the day playing fall
- 1:38:57ball. I.
- 1:38:58Mean this? This week's slate is a little
- 1:38:59bit underwhelming, especially after last week.
- 1:39:03Oh yeah, 100%. But there there are a couple
- 1:39:05interesting ones. And.
- 1:39:06There's interesting games. There's not marquee games, but
- 1:39:09there's interesting games. There's good matchups.
- 1:39:11Even if you're not getting that marquee, you know, 2 ranked
- 1:39:15opponents or like you know you got to look at a W like Curtis.
- 1:39:19You picked West Virginia Pit because there's history there.
- 1:39:22There's not a whole lot of there's not a ton of accolades
- 1:39:24currently right now. But you know there there's
- 1:39:28definitely the history there that you can fall back on.
- 1:39:31Well let's go to one of those ones.
- 1:39:32It's it's it's a it's a inner conference or an inner
- 1:39:36conference route match up a CC big 10.
- 1:39:39Minnesota North Carolina, Minnesota is only is is 2 and O.
- 1:39:44They've given up eight points a game but they're only scoring 19
- 1:39:47points a game. Brian, who you taking on this
- 1:39:50one? I got the Tar Heels.
- 1:39:52I think they got a scare last week and I think that kind of
- 1:39:55woke their asses up a little bit.
- 1:39:57I think they they handled their business this week against
- 1:40:00Minnesota. Tyler, you up next?
- 1:40:03Who you got? Man, I got to go.
- 1:40:05You and see, man, I got to go you and see when it's hard for
- 1:40:08me to, to bet against. They've got a really good
- 1:40:11quarterback, you know, besides whatever else they have.
- 1:40:14When you have a really good quarterback, it can do a lot of
- 1:40:18stuff for your team. So I got to go.
- 1:40:20You and see, Yeah, it's a home game.
- 1:40:23If it was maybe up in Minnesota I'd think about taking the
- 1:40:26points. But in this case I I think I
- 1:40:29personally think Carolina's going to absolutely blow the
- 1:40:32doors off Minnesota. If you told me this was 12 1/2 I
- 1:40:35might would take 12 1/2. So give me Carolina as well.
- 1:40:40Shelton is the outlier here. He likes Minnesota.
- 1:40:43Shelton likes to row the boat. Clearly Johnny ain't here to
- 1:40:46defend yourself so we going to put some we going to put some
- 1:40:49things on your name row the boat.
- 1:40:51I-1 last one Big 12, SCC matchup.
- 1:40:55Mizzou at K State. I think both teams are two and
- 1:41:01OI am not mistaken they are. They are both two and O.
- 1:41:06But Missouri played somebody like week one.
- 1:41:08That was not a good team and I remember watching this like how
- 1:41:15in the world oh here you go they played South Dakota.
- 1:41:19That was a game pretty much until that was not a game.
- 1:41:23But they struggled with Middle Tennessee State last week
- 1:41:27ruggled. So, Tally, who you taking in
- 1:41:30this one? Man, I got to go K State.
- 1:41:32I told y'all, I hate the SEC. Billy, you said that's big boy
- 1:41:36ball. I said that's little balls
- 1:41:38football. You know, I'm going, I'm going K
- 1:41:44State, man. I think they're going.
- 1:41:46I mean, K State's always got a pretty tough program.
- 1:41:50They play hard, they're playing at home.
- 1:41:52All jokes aside, it's an early game, so I'm going to take K
- 1:41:56State in that game. All righty.
- 1:41:58Siglo yeah it's it's got to be K State.
- 1:42:02I mean K State is looks like a solid solid team this year
- 1:42:07Mizzou 2 and O but I mean that that that that's a fraudulent
- 1:42:11looking two and O with the the outcome against Middle Tennessee
- 1:42:14and then you know only getting by South Dakota 3510.
- 1:42:19So not not overly impressive there either.
- 1:42:22So give me Kansas State and I'm with y'all make this a trifecta
- 1:42:28it's only 5 to lay it. Yeah five ain't enough.
- 1:42:31I think Kansas State wins this 110 to 14.
- 1:42:34It'll probably be another probably taking.
- 1:42:36It at 9 1/2, so I'll definitely take it at 5:00 what Sheldon got
- 1:42:41on this one. We're we're we're sweeping this
- 1:42:43one sweeping. So we've got 3 picks we are
- 1:42:47absolutely on. And then one mix, 2 mix picks
- 1:42:50and then one pick everybody. It's one person against the rest
- 1:42:53of us. Awesome.
- 1:42:55Those are our big screens. We'll put them out there to let
- 1:42:57everybody. Put Billy's last hold on.
- 1:43:01Billy wants this one. And I yeah, Curtis, you take a
- 1:43:04look at that and tell them what you think about that first.
- 1:43:07That's just I think I'm going to take South Carolina and give me
- 1:43:11the 27 1/2 Georgia has not. Georgia has been so slow out of
- 1:43:15the gate, not once but twice, you know, against UT Martin and
- 1:43:20then last week. I think that's too big.
- 1:43:24I I I think George is in that situation where they're
- 1:43:28retooling. Bowers is a crazy, crazy tight
- 1:43:33end, but right now they're trying to figure out what else
- 1:43:37to do and to to say you're going to lay 4 touchdowns, that's a
- 1:43:41lot. Just because in some ways I
- 1:43:44think Shane will revert back to pops and try to slow the game
- 1:43:47down and just make it a ground fest.
- 1:43:52Yeah, I think I if if it was like a line about 2020 or 20 I
- 1:43:57I'd I'd go over there. But yeah, I'm I'm taking the
- 1:44:02cocks in this situation, so touchdowns a ton.
- 1:44:04Yeah, usually, usually feels like, Y'all said about 20.
- 1:44:07I would have, I would have took Georgia, but would have been 27,
- 1:44:111/2. I'm still taking Georgia because
- 1:44:15train was on that crime about the staff eating hot dogs.
- 1:44:19When you start getting on TV and talking and complaining and
- 1:44:22crying, you look you playing losing football.
- 1:44:25Shane, get your keys ready. Come on home.
- 1:44:28You might we might need you to coach something up here at Tech.
- 1:44:31Come get on staff. Y'all about to got y'all about
- 1:44:34to get beat by about 3535, he says 35.
- 1:44:38OK, write that down, alright. Anything breaking in the last
- 1:44:42little while here, boys? Nope, not that I've seen.
