- 1:17Speaker 2: next hour and listen to a mixture of sport and
- 1:20Speaker 2: cracking tunes, starting with this one. You remember this nineteen
- 1:24Speaker 2: seventy one. It's a classic belter. You recognize it instantly
- 1:31Speaker 2: from that intro, don't you, Pete Townsend.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Here it goes.
- 1:57Speaker 2: They go and sit back and enjoy the who you
- 1:58Speaker 2: won't get forward again.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Will be.
- 2:15Speaker 2: The who there won't get forward again nineteen seventy one.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Oh come on, I bet you were doing your Keith
- 2:22Speaker 2: Moon impression all around the office with a couple of pencils.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And why not.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Well, this is Kevin Day here on the Sports show.
- 2:35Speaker 2: We've got an hour of sport and music and please
- 2:38Speaker 2: sit back and enjoy it. So it's a lot of
- 2:40Speaker 2: really is a folks and based sport show today. Well,
- 2:44Speaker 2: we start with football. The long awaited return to Sheritan
- 2:48Speaker 2: Road by Folks in Victor took place on Saturday in
- 2:50Speaker 2: front of one thy three hundred and seventy nine fans
- 2:53Speaker 2: and it was a game that had everything. It had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a miss, penalty, ascending off and a ninety fifth minute goal.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Opponents Dullage Hamlet went in one the other halftime, but
- 3:04Speaker 2: in Victor clawed their way back with two goals from
- 3:06Speaker 2: Joe Piggott, the second one coming in the eighty ninth minute.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Earlier on, though, Dullage were awarded a penalty and unfortunately
- 3:14Speaker 2: Liam Smith protested too loudly and received a second yellow
- 3:18Speaker 2: and was subsequently sent off. However, the penalty ended up
- 3:21Speaker 2: in Morrison's card Park, much to the great relief from
- 3:24Speaker 2: the home supporters. So, with the score two to one
- 3:27Speaker 2: to focus them and just one minute of normal time
- 3:30Speaker 2: to go, the board went up showing five minutes of
- 3:33Speaker 2: time added on. Could ten many Victor hang on Well?
- 3:37Speaker 2: The answer was no, unfortunately, and Dulage equalized with almost
- 3:41Speaker 2: the last kick of the game in the ninety fifth minute.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But it was a great welcome home, it really was.
- 3:46Speaker 2: The fans loved it. It was a nice afternoon and
- 3:49Speaker 2: it's been a long time coming, but that they are back.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So on to Tuesday evening, the first league game under
- 3:57Speaker 2: lights this season against the Lewis. After Saturday's game, the
- 4:01Speaker 2: fans were hopeful to seeing Victor get three points, but
- 4:04Speaker 2: I don't believe anybody would have expected a six kneel victory.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Joe Piggott got the ball a roll in the first minute,
- 4:11Speaker 2: then Joel of Dinner had made it two nil fifteen
- 4:14Speaker 2: minutes later, so they went. They went in two nil
- 4:17Speaker 2: up at halftime. Now they were probably expecting a fight
- 4:20Speaker 2: back from Lewis in the second half, but it never
- 4:22Speaker 2: happened and if Victor hit another four goals, sending the
- 4:26Speaker 2: folks and fans home extremely happy. The crowd was a
- 4:30Speaker 2: good one for a Tuesday evening, nine hundred and forty
- 4:32Speaker 2: four in attendance. This Saturday is an away fixture against
- 4:36Speaker 2: Burgess Hill in the FA Trophy first Round, a match
- 4:39Speaker 2: that is worth three thousand pounds of the winners and
- 4:42Speaker 2: seven hundred and seventy five pounds of the losers.
- 4:45Speaker 3: So moving on to hive.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Town now were they welcomed the peece Haven and Telscombe
- 4:49Speaker 2: from the Sussex County Premier League to Reach Fields in
- 4:52Speaker 2: a Favur's first round fixture in front of one hundred
- 4:55Speaker 2: and ninety three spectators and they won the match one
- 4:58Speaker 2: nil with an eighty seventh minute goal from Tommy adig Belugabe.
- 5:02Speaker 2: In Monday's draw, they received a home tit against Burnham FC.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And now this is going to be a tough one
- 5:08Speaker 2: because Burnham are currently top of the Combined County's Premier
- 5:11Speaker 2: League North and they will travel down from Slought in Buckinghamshire. Meanwhile,
- 5:16Speaker 2: on Tuesday evening it was back to league action when
- 5:19Speaker 2: they were away to Bearstead, the game ending in a
- 5:21Speaker 2: one nel victory for Bearstead. Sadly, the twenty fifth of
- 5:25Speaker 2: October is a return to Breech Fields with another home fixture,
- 5:29Speaker 2: this time against Tunbridge.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Wells in the league.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So I'm going to move on to a bit of
- 5:35Speaker 2: more music now and we come back with some football
- 5:38Speaker 2: after this track. But now this is the track. This
- 5:41Speaker 2: is a famous track really and you all know why
- 5:44Speaker 2: it's famous because it was the first ever song played
- 5:48Speaker 2: on Radio One. It was way back in nineteen sixty seven.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think it was the pirate era was over and
- 5:56Speaker 2: it was time to like for the Radio one to
- 5:59Speaker 2: pretend that they were a pirate station. And this was
- 6:02Speaker 2: the first ever song played on September thirtieth, nineteen sixty seven,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and this is Flowers in the Rain and the move.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Walked up one morning a sleep with ally blankets and.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Again and yellow roses scanned up round. The first song
- 6:32Speaker 2: ever played on Radio one. So it was the end
- 6:40Speaker 2: of the era for the pirate radio stations and the
- 6:44Speaker 2: Tony Blackburn will he jump ship literally and ended up
- 6:47Speaker 2: on Radio one. Several of them did, but they didn't
- 6:50Speaker 2: have any auction, did they, as the government seemed to
- 6:52Speaker 2: be trying to dampen down the teenage music and it well,
- 6:58Speaker 2: they won in the end, didn't they. But that sort
- 7:01Speaker 2: of music from that era still still goes on. It's
- 7:04Speaker 2: really strong and loads of people love the old classic
- 7:08Speaker 2: gold stations now, So there you go, first song played
- 7:12Speaker 2: on Radio one as the Move and Flowers in the Rain. Okay,
- 7:16Speaker 2: switching back to a little bit more football now. In
- 7:19Speaker 2: the Kent Intermediate Challenge, Shield New Romney beat Boca Juniors
- 7:23Speaker 2: by three goals, to two. On Saturday the twenty fifth
- 7:26Speaker 2: is an away league fixture against Meridian VP, which means
- 7:29Speaker 2: a trip to Southeast London. Now this will be a
- 7:32Speaker 2: close encounter as Meridian are fourteenth and New Romney are
- 7:35Speaker 2: fifteenth out of nineteen teams. And I think in their
- 7:38Speaker 2: previous meeting, I think Meridian beaten three to one. Actually
- 7:42Speaker 2: Hawkinstown had no fixture last week, but this week they
- 7:45Speaker 2: are a way to bottom club fleet Down United, which
- 7:48Speaker 2: means a trip to Dartford. Hawkings are currently seventh. Now
- 7:52Speaker 2: in the Wild of Kent Charity Cup, Hawkinstown Reserves lost
- 7:55Speaker 2: three nil away to wood Church Reserves, but New Romney
- 7:58Speaker 2: Reserves had a great win in the same competition, beating
- 8:01Speaker 2: Brimley Green seven to one. This week New Romney Reserves
- 8:04Speaker 2: are at home too, Smarten and I can't find a
- 8:07Speaker 2: fixture for Hawkins Reserves, possibly because there is an odd
- 8:11Speaker 2: number of teams in the division. So moving on to
- 8:14Speaker 2: Folks Inn in Victor disability football team, they had to
- 8:17Speaker 2: travel up to Southeast London to play Greenwich Borough, a
- 8:20Speaker 2: deaf football club and what sounds like a very competitive game.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Now we'll just repeat this in case you're wondering how
- 8:27Speaker 2: deaf players cope with playing on the pitch. Well, what
- 8:31Speaker 2: the referee does. He blows his whistle and if he
- 8:34Speaker 2: makes a decision, but he also holds a flag up
- 8:37Speaker 2: at the same time and it does work. I've seen
- 8:40Speaker 2: several deaf teams Welling deaf have got a good sight.
- 8:42Speaker 2: They've been down to Folkeston before and it does work.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It does seem that the players are ready for it.
- 8:48Speaker 2: If they think it's a controversial decision, then they immediately
- 8:51Speaker 2: will look straight to the ref zee if he's got
- 8:53Speaker 2: his flag up anyway. Vinnie Perry opened the scoring for
- 8:56Speaker 2: a Victor, but Greenwich pulled one back for one all.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Perry found the back of the net just before halftime,
- 9:02Speaker 2: making it to one, but keeper Wayne Froud was called
- 9:05Speaker 2: upon to make some important saves and clearances. Greenwich found
- 9:09Speaker 2: their way back into the game, making it to all
- 9:11Speaker 2: and then piled on the pressure. However, a first time
- 9:14Speaker 2: passed from experienced veteran a maestro a player manager, Garren
- 9:18Speaker 2: Wilson put Vinnie Perry through and he made no mistake
- 9:21Speaker 2: in Victor now three to a head. In Victor had
- 9:24Speaker 2: more defending to do, but they saw the game out
- 9:27Speaker 2: and with a well earned victory. Man of the Match
- 9:31Speaker 2: award was a share between Billy Hayter and Vinnie Perry.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And their next game is Saturday, the twenty fifth of
- 9:36Speaker 2: October with a friendly against apple Doore Veterans Football Club
- 9:40Speaker 2: three pm kickoff at the Three Hills. And just a
- 9:44Speaker 2: reminder in Victor, a women's team play on the new
- 9:47Speaker 2: artificial pitch on Sunday, the twenty sixth of October against
- 9:51Speaker 2: Dealtown Ladies. It's a two pm kickoff, so see if
- 9:54Speaker 2: you can make your way down there to see how
- 9:55Speaker 2: the ladies get on on the artificial pitch.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Now, it's hell of a day out there at the moment,
- 10:01Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I came out this morning and my bins were like
- 10:05Speaker 2: half way up the street and because they was empty,
- 10:08Speaker 2: got blown away.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So I've found a couple of songs that have got.
- 10:11Speaker 2: The wind related themes in them, and I haven't heard
- 10:14Speaker 2: this one for a while. This is Christopher Cross and
- 10:17Speaker 2: Ride Like the Wind. Christopher Cross there riding like the Wind.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I've known that for a long time either. So coming
- 10:51Speaker 2: up now we have got remember this one. Do you
- 10:54Speaker 2: know what the film it was from? Patrick Swayze He's
- 11:01Speaker 2: like the wind. What was the film?
- 11:12Speaker 1: She's like the wind? Do my tream?
- 11:33Speaker 3: Patrick Tracy?
- 11:33Speaker 2: There that a film? You know, you all remember that
- 11:38Speaker 2: film Dirty Dancing. It made a smashing sensation when it
- 11:42Speaker 2: came out, didn't it. And there was that famous catchphrase
- 11:45Speaker 2: that everyone was going around.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Saying, nobody puts baby in a corner? Remember that?
- 11:50Speaker 2: Well back in the day, I went up to the
- 11:53Speaker 2: West End to watch the theatrical version and on the
- 11:59Speaker 2: stage and I thought to myself, how are they going
- 12:01Speaker 2: to do that bit where you know where she is
- 12:05Speaker 2: in the water and she jumps onto him and he
- 12:08Speaker 2: balances her. I thought, are they going to do that
- 12:11Speaker 2: on stage? They're going to have a tank or something.
- 12:13Speaker 2: But the special effects they kind of put a false,
- 12:16Speaker 2: false picture of water flowing in front of the two
- 12:20Speaker 2: actors and they brought the lights down and wow, it
- 12:24Speaker 2: was like the highlight of the show. To be honest,
- 12:27Speaker 2: it really was. They got it off to a fine art.
- 12:29Speaker 2: You would have really thought they were in water.
- 12:32Speaker 3: So there he goo. That was Patrick Swayze. A couple
- 12:34Speaker 3: of wind.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Related songs because it's a bit breezy out there, so
- 12:39Speaker 2: time for some more sport now and it's the turn
- 12:42Speaker 2: of a rugby so once again Folks and Rugby Club
- 12:45Speaker 2: had a good weekend. The First fifteen scored ten tries,
- 12:48Speaker 2: winning the game by fifty eight points to nineteen against
- 12:52Speaker 2: a brave Sidcup side who appeared to have run out
- 12:54Speaker 2: of steam in the second half. The Seconds had an
- 12:57Speaker 2: amazing score line away against Whitstaball. I've never heard of
- 13:00Speaker 2: this score in rugby before. The game ended twenty two
- 13:03Speaker 2: points all. And to finish off the weekend on a high,
- 13:06Speaker 2: the Ladies team beat Beckahamian Ladies by forty five points
- 13:10Speaker 2: to nil. So that was their opening game of the season.
- 13:13Speaker 2: So that's that was a great weekend. It's nice to
- 13:16Speaker 2: have some good news to come in constantly from Folks
- 13:19Speaker 2: and Rugby Club because in the past it's been a
- 13:21Speaker 2: little bit up and down. Let's hope it carries on.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Now.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Up and coming fixture to see the First fifteen at
- 13:27Speaker 2: home to Beckon Them on November the eighth, the Seconds
- 13:30Speaker 2: away to Gravesend also on the eighth, and the Ladies
- 13:33Speaker 2: away on the ninth against Thanet Wanderers. And don't forget
- 13:37Speaker 2: the big firework display happening at the ground on the
- 13:40Speaker 2: fifth of November. For further information on this, please go
- 13:44Speaker 2: to the Folks and Rugby Club Facebook page and you've
- 13:47Speaker 2: got a link there to the website, so go along there.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That's I think the last year it was totally washed out,
- 13:53Speaker 2: which was such a shame.
- 13:54Speaker 3: So fingers crossed for the weather. Well, any any.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Sort of fair paying display that's going to go on,
- 14:01Speaker 2: then let's just hope it happens. So we've got some
- 14:05Speaker 2: hockey news now. With two weeks running now, it's been
- 14:08Speaker 2: a full set of fourteen results from the Folks to
- 14:11Speaker 2: Optimus Hockey Club. So this is a tough one for me.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I always make a few mistakes in this one. To
- 14:16Speaker 2: bear with me, let's crack on with fourteen results and
- 14:19Speaker 2: all the scorers. So we start with the men's first eleven. Well,
- 14:23Speaker 2: they lost a three to two against Rygates, will Mead
- 14:27Speaker 2: getting both the goals. The men's second team lost at
- 14:30Speaker 2: four to one against Old Williamsonian's Healthy Ball getting the
- 14:33Speaker 2: solitary goal. The men's thirdeam they won six to one
- 14:37Speaker 2: against k Sports. Ben Allen scored twice and Jude File,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Phil King, Jack Timmins and Wheelball scored one apiece. Men's
- 14:46Speaker 2: fourth team they lost seven three to Ashford, Kyle Mackett
- 14:50Speaker 2: scoring twice and Andrew Normangain won. The men's fifteen they
- 14:55Speaker 2: drew a three all with Blackheath Heavens, Ross Driber scoring
- 14:59Speaker 2: twine and ten Die.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Nika scoring once.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Men's sixteen they beat bern Ash three nil, Steve Rowe
- 15:08Speaker 2: logan chairman and Jack Jake Davison they got one each.
- 15:12Speaker 2: The men's seventh team they beat Hulcombe Hurricanes four to three,
- 15:17Speaker 2: Matt Carter getting a hat trick, I Matt and another
- 15:19Speaker 2: Matt Matt Goodwin getting the other goal, and finally in
- 15:23Speaker 2: the men's team, the men's eighth team they lost three
- 15:26Speaker 2: to two to k Sports, Chris Simpson and Andrew Reed
- 15:30Speaker 2: getting the goals. Switching our attentions to the ladies now
- 15:34Speaker 2: the Ladies first team where they beat burn Ash four
- 15:37Speaker 2: to two, goals coming from Claire Carter she scored twice,
- 15:41Speaker 2: Becker Shaw and Iszi Prout getting the other two. Lady's
- 15:44Speaker 2: second team they drew one all with the Tumbridge Wells
- 15:47Speaker 2: former guest to the show, Adrian Rose scoring the solitary goal.
- 15:51Speaker 2: There Ladies thirdeen they beat Hulcombe three nil. Em Pulland
- 15:56Speaker 2: scored twice and Polly Ritchie got the third. Ladies fourteen
- 16:01Speaker 2: they beat Maystone two to one, Ciana Craig scoring twice,
- 16:06Speaker 2: Ladies fifteen they beat Herne Bay one nil, Lily Ella
- 16:10Speaker 2: Gore scoring the goal, and the Ladies sixteen they beat
- 16:14Speaker 2: Herne Bay six nil. Janet Follo scored twice. Former guests
- 16:18Speaker 2: of the show Catchery on the Peak scored once. Then
- 16:20Speaker 2: the other goals came from Vicky Stafford, Jenny Craig and
- 16:24Speaker 2: Edith Kent.
- 16:26Speaker 3: So there we go.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I think I got through that lot with that making
- 16:28Speaker 2: a mistake. I normally make a slip up there and
- 16:31Speaker 2: then anyway, just looking closer at the ladies' scores, they
- 16:35Speaker 2: were so unlucky to have like six wins. They had
- 16:40Speaker 2: five wins and a one old drawer, So that is
- 16:43Speaker 2: amazing considering all sixteens one last week. So looking at
- 16:47Speaker 2: the bigger picture, over the whole fourteen games they played fourteen,
- 16:51Speaker 2: they won eight, they drew two, they lost four, they
- 16:56Speaker 2: scored goals four, they scored forty one and they conceded
- 17:01Speaker 2: twenty five, so that on paper is a fantastic weekend.
- 17:05Speaker 2: So well done everybody that turned out for the opposite
- 17:08Speaker 2: I think I worked it out last week. One hundred
- 17:10Speaker 2: and fifty four players before substitutions.
- 17:13Speaker 3: That is brilliant.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Okay, we're moving up to two thousand and three now,
- 17:18Speaker 2: and this is a group I do love.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I must admit. We'll sure you know that by now.
- 17:21Speaker 3: This is M People and Angel.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Street from two thousand and three. M People at Angel Street.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Don't you just love the voice of Heather Small? Okay? Now,
- 17:47Speaker 2: last week I was wanted to get in first and
- 17:48Speaker 2: played at Thriller as it is coming up to Halloween,
- 17:53Speaker 2: and I thought, you know what, I haven't played much
- 17:54Speaker 2: Michael Jackson. When I look back over the years, I've
- 17:58Speaker 2: dug this one out done and pumps.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Out Billy Jean.
- 18:17Speaker 1: She was more like Queen.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Classic track from Michael Jackson Villy Jean Jean. Okay, just
- 18:48Speaker 2: move on a bit more sport now, shall we well?
- 18:50Speaker 3: Sunday morning?
- 18:51Speaker 2: Last Sunday morning, it was an early start for me
- 18:53Speaker 2: as I had an hour's drive to meet up with
- 18:55Speaker 2: the Nice Work team at six thirty, Yes o six thirty,
- 18:59Speaker 2: set up for the Bedroom Park half marathon and ten
- 19:01Speaker 2: k through the beautiful but undulating forest trails. There was
- 19:06Speaker 2: almost a dead even split for the choice of distance
- 19:09Speaker 2: in with one hundred and seventy seven finishing the ten
- 19:12Speaker 2: k and one hundred and seventy eight finishing the half marathon. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 2: this is the first time I can remember actually because
- 19:19Speaker 2: it is a bit of a journey that there's not
- 19:21Speaker 2: any local runners present and the furthest away that the
- 19:25Speaker 2: furthest distance traveled by an athlete. There was a lady
- 19:28Speaker 2: there came with her family, especially from Somerset. They were
- 19:32Speaker 2: looking for a trail run. They wanted a weekend away
- 19:34Speaker 2: and they ended up in Bedgbury Park and they I
- 19:38Speaker 2: was chatting to her after the runner. She said she
- 19:40Speaker 2: absolutely loved it. It was really really worth the trip. But
- 19:44Speaker 2: you had to feel for the half marathoners as they
- 19:46Speaker 2: did two loops coming past the finish line, knowing there
- 19:50Speaker 2: to go round again. And I was on the microphone
- 19:52Speaker 2: at the finish point, so the ten k has kind
- 19:55Speaker 2: of came in first, and the half marathoners they did
- 19:58Speaker 2: a little extra loop while they were at on their
- 20:00Speaker 2: second lap. I mean, but to go around again, psychologically,
- 20:06Speaker 2: it's really one of the toughest things you've got to do,
- 20:08Speaker 2: certainly in my experience in my running days. If it
- 20:10Speaker 2: was a loop two loops, thought oh no, I come of,
- 20:13Speaker 2: just go out a bit further and do one loop. Anyway,
- 20:16Speaker 2: they all pass that barrier and finish the race successfully.
- 20:20Speaker 2: My next race on the MIC is the Deal five miler,
- 20:23Speaker 2: organized by the Deal tri Club. That's on Sunday, the
- 20:26Speaker 2: second of November, which is this one's different. It's a
- 20:29Speaker 2: dead flat, fast course, but in my recollection of the
- 20:35Speaker 2: Deal five, it always seems to be really windy or
- 20:38Speaker 2: pouring with rain, and sooner or later you're going to
- 20:41Speaker 2: copy it one way or the other. Running along the
- 20:43Speaker 2: seafront there. However, in between between now and the Deal five,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I have two Halloween park runs to compare. Saturday, the
- 20:51Speaker 2: twenty fifth of October sees me at the Dover Waterfront
- 20:54Speaker 2: Part Run, where there will be prizes for the best
- 20:57Speaker 2: dressed adult and the best addressed. Now this is in
- 21:01Speaker 2: conjunction with a five k Your Way, which is organized
- 21:04Speaker 2: by cancer survivor some of Luiz. This happens once a
- 21:08Speaker 2: month on the last Saturday of the month. She tries
- 21:12Speaker 2: to encourage families and friends who've been touched by cancer
- 21:15Speaker 2: to come along get some exercise.
- 21:17Speaker 3: You don't have to run it.
- 21:18Speaker 2: You can walk it, have a coffee afterwards and swap
- 21:21Speaker 2: some stories. Now, this race also marks the one hundredth
- 21:25Speaker 2: edition of the Dover Waterfront Park Run, so it's celebrations
- 21:29Speaker 2: all around. It's going to be I'm looking forward to it. It's
- 21:30Speaker 2: going to be a good morning. Then on the Sunday,
- 21:33Speaker 2: the twenty six she'll be playing some spooky music at
- 21:36Speaker 2: the Radna Park Junior Park Run, which starts at nine
- 21:39Speaker 2: am Radne Park. The clue is in the title and
- 21:42Speaker 2: the children will be encouraged once again to come along
- 21:45Speaker 2: dressed in a Halloween themed outfit. Hopefully some of the
- 21:49Speaker 2: parents and adults will also join in the spirit of
- 21:51Speaker 2: the things and that's always a good one. So parents,
- 21:55Speaker 2: if you want to come along for the first time,
- 21:57Speaker 2: then please just check out Radna Park your park round.
- 22:00Speaker 2: You will need a barcode if you want to time
- 22:03Speaker 2: and but it is free and then with that barcode
- 22:06Speaker 2: you can go to any junior part run in the country.
- 22:09Speaker 3: How good is that? Right?
- 22:11Speaker 2: So we're going to take a little break for some
- 22:14Speaker 2: music now and this is one direction from twenty fifteen
- 22:18Speaker 2: and drag me down.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I've got five far hard, I'm not scared of the dark.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You've never seen it. Look so lease, I got a
- 22:30Speaker 1: real nick.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Drag me down one direction, Drag me down from twenty fifteen. Okay,
- 22:39Speaker 2: we've got some more running news now. Six runners went
- 22:41Speaker 2: to Amsterdam to run the marathon. Simon Ramsey ran it
- 22:45Speaker 2: in two fifty six twenty two, Greg Dixon three thirty
- 22:48Speaker 2: eight oh three, Nicole did four oh one fourteen, Diane
- 22:52Speaker 2: Parsons four o three sixteen, all this husk in four
- 22:55Speaker 2: forty two fifty two. And Tony's got, poor old Tony
- 22:59Speaker 2: her his achilles at about nineteen miles and had to
- 23:04Speaker 2: hobble in. He did four forty nine and nineteen but
- 23:08Speaker 2: he got round and he's all right. That's the main thing.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Meanwhile in Rome Helen Webb. Helen Webb did a half
- 23:15Speaker 2: marathon in one hour fifteen In Abingdon it was an
- 23:19Speaker 2: Abingdon Marathon going on and Debbie Jeffries she'd run that
- 23:23Speaker 2: marathon in three hours, twelve minutes and one second and
- 23:26Speaker 2: she was representing the England Masters and she came third
- 23:30Speaker 2: female Vett fifty five. So well done to you, Debbie.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Running for the first time in an England vest. The
- 23:37Speaker 2: Matstone Half marathon Sarah and undid that in one fifty
- 23:40Speaker 2: three fifty six. And our runners do find some amazing
- 23:44Speaker 2: places to go running. Nicki Goodwin went to Lubljana in Slovenia.
- 23:48Speaker 2: She ran a full marathon there in three hours twenty
- 23:51Speaker 2: six thirty nine. In Adam Ward he took on the
- 23:57Speaker 2: fifty four kilometers at the Jurassic Coast Ultra in Dorset
- 24:02Speaker 2: and it took him six hours forty five minutes and
- 24:05Speaker 2: he did very well. Really he came two hundred and
- 24:07Speaker 2: thirty second out of four hundred and forty seven, so
- 24:11Speaker 2: about halfway in the field. Well done to you, Adam.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Now fifty four kilometers that is well, let me think
- 24:18Speaker 2: one hundred k is sixty two miles, so that's it's
- 24:23Speaker 2: about thirty three thirty four miles. And I've been down there.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We compared a race down there many years ago in
- 24:30Speaker 2: near Swanage and the countryside is lovely to look at,
- 24:35Speaker 2: but you wouldn't want to do fifty fifty four kilometers
- 24:38Speaker 2: over it. So on to park run venues. Martin Salmon
- 24:41Speaker 2: was found one at Basilden, pill Maoll found one at
- 24:44Speaker 2: Saint Andrew's on the East coast. Of Scotland Simon Coffee.
- 24:47Speaker 2: He found a park run in Burnley and Lancashire, Roy
- 24:50Speaker 2: akt former guests to the Show Roy Atkins. He is
- 24:53Speaker 2: a run director of the Folkston Radna Park Junior Run.
- 24:56Speaker 2: He found a park run at Peniston in South Yorkshire
- 25:01Speaker 2: and Greg Dixon's Bonkers isn't he? He did the Amsterdam
- 25:04Speaker 2: Park Run on the Saturday and then run the marathon
- 25:08Speaker 2: on the Sunday, well on Greg Now. It was also
- 25:11Speaker 2: the weekend of the Great South Run. Now the Great
- 25:13Speaker 2: South Run is ten miles as opposed to the Great
- 25:17Speaker 2: North Run, which is a half marathon thirteen point one miles.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Seven South Kent Harriers took part. Sewn Pilcher won twenty
- 25:25Speaker 2: three twenty five, Steve Waite one twenty four fifty two.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Royd Powell won twenty eight oh one. Mark Savill run
- 25:32Speaker 2: a PB time of one twenty nine forty one. Former
- 25:35Speaker 2: guest of the show Mel Powell run. She also run
- 25:39Speaker 2: a PB one thirty three thirty one and the third
- 25:42Speaker 2: PB came from Ian Tomlinson one thirty six twenty five
- 25:47Speaker 2: Marie Westbrook. She ran it in one thirty nine to
- 25:50Speaker 2: fifty five and it was reported that conditions were tough.
- 25:54Speaker 2: It was rainy, that was strong winds and once again
- 25:56Speaker 2: I've been down there. It's the Great South Run is
- 26:00Speaker 2: sort of Portsmouth part of the world, but they do
- 26:02Speaker 2: run along the prom at south Sea and me and
- 26:05Speaker 2: Missus Ferret we stayed at south Sea but it was
- 26:08Speaker 2: a lovely time. Then we didn't go down for the
- 26:11Speaker 2: Great South Run. But it's a bit like Hasting's Sea Front.
- 26:14Speaker 2: It's a long, flat, open run at sea level, so
- 26:21Speaker 2: you get the wind whipping off the sea and it
- 26:24Speaker 2: can be very uncomfortable. But also there was a marathon
- 26:28Speaker 2: in York. Catherine O'Connor. She set a PB by six minutes.
- 26:34Speaker 2: She run in by three hours twenty four and she
- 26:37Speaker 2: came first in her age category and qualified for England
- 26:40Speaker 2: Masters in twenty twenty six. So well done to you, Catherine.
- 26:43Speaker 2: All that hard work's paid off. John O'Hara did the
- 26:46Speaker 2: marathon in four hours four and husband and wife duo
- 26:50Speaker 2: and both former guests of the show, Pam Mclive Allen
- 26:53Speaker 2: running the York ten miler, both finishing in one hour
- 26:56Speaker 2: twenty four minutes. Except I did hear a little birdie toe.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I mean that Clive outsprinted pam Ha the finish, putting
- 27:02Speaker 2: him in the doghouse.
- 27:03Speaker 3: For the rest of the week.
- 27:04Speaker 2: But spaah thought for Tristan Upton from South Kent Harriers,
- 27:08Speaker 2: who trained for months to run a marathon in his
- 27:11Speaker 2: hometown of Cape Town in South Africa, only to be
- 27:14Speaker 2: told on the start line, along with thousands of other runners,
- 27:18Speaker 2: that the event had been canceled.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Was he a joke?
- 27:20Speaker 2: They was all talking would They said, this can't be right.
- 27:24Speaker 2: But the answer no, it wasn't a joke. It was
- 27:25Speaker 2: for real right on the start line. The reason given
- 27:29Speaker 2: was due to safety reasons because of strong winds on
- 27:31Speaker 2: the course and all the runners at the start line
- 27:34Speaker 2: I found out a bit hard to swallow when it
- 27:36Speaker 2: was quite calm at the starts. But these decisions are
- 27:39Speaker 2: not taken lightly by the organizers. I mean it's bad enough.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I've been in a situation with a park run run
- 27:44Speaker 2: director where let's say you get two hundred people and
- 27:47Speaker 2: the weather doesn't look too good and they've got to
- 27:49Speaker 2: make this decision does it go ahead, especially if there's lightning.
- 27:53Speaker 2: If there's lightning, it's definitely a no go. But so
- 27:57Speaker 2: these storms must have been pretty horrendous if they were
- 28:00Speaker 2: going to take the bold decision upset thousands of runners.
- 28:04Speaker 2: But safety is the first priority, isn't it?
- 28:08Speaker 3: Okay?
- 28:09Speaker 2: So we've got what also, I've got something else he
- 28:12Speaker 2: has tapped away.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Of course I have.
- 28:14Speaker 2: You've got Sam Hart and the plod Squad. Now, Sam's
- 28:17Speaker 2: been sending me some reports about how his plod squad
- 28:20Speaker 2: is going, so this is the latest. Sam says that
- 28:23Speaker 2: they successfully completed two sessions of three kilometers. Now they
- 28:28Speaker 2: had a mixture of old and new faces and we
- 28:31Speaker 2: even had a two and a half year old ride
- 28:33Speaker 2: his bike alongside his mum, proving that really anyone can
- 28:36Speaker 2: do it. Some older kids also came along with their bikes,
- 28:39Speaker 2: running alongside their mums and there was lots of smiles
- 28:42Speaker 2: and laughing as they went along. More days will be
- 28:45Speaker 2: added soon, which can be found on the Facebook page
- 28:47Speaker 2: plod Squad Folkston or on Instagram. And since Sam sent
- 28:52Speaker 2: me in his report, he has confirmed that there is
- 28:55Speaker 2: in fact a run on Thursday with twenty third of
- 28:58Speaker 2: October at four point thirty and on Saturday at ten thirty.
- 29:02Speaker 2: On the twenty fifth of October at ten thirty, did
- 29:05Speaker 2: I say that I think I did that's it the
- 29:08Speaker 2: lees Cliff Hall. All the run start of the lees
- 29:10Speaker 2: Cliff Hall. And what they're going to do is a
- 29:12Speaker 2: gentle warm up then a gentle plod. All ages and
- 29:15Speaker 2: all abilities are welcome and the added bonus is it's free.
- 29:19Speaker 2: So why don't you go along, get a bit of exercise. Hey,
- 29:22Speaker 2: get off that sofa, turn the telly off and go
- 29:25Speaker 2: and visit the plod Squad. I'm sure Sam and Laura
- 29:29Speaker 2: will make you really welcome. Okay, running out of time now,
- 29:32Speaker 2: so we got this from a Coldplay and Talk. Well
- 29:51Speaker 2: that's it for me for this week.
- 29:53Speaker 3: No Saturvy show. Unfortunately.
- 29:54Speaker 2: This week Ady will be in Sussex with Seasiders Radio
- 29:58Speaker 2: commentating on the Burgess Hill Go versus folksing in Victor
- 30:01Speaker 2: and I should be on the mic at the Halloween
- 30:03Speaker 2: Dover Waterfront Part Run, which is also Dover's one hundredth
- 30:07Speaker 2: part run. I'll be back next Thursday, so in the meantime,
- 30:10Speaker 2: stay sporty and stay dryer on one oh five point
- 30:14Speaker 2: nine FM, online at Radio Folkston dot com and on
- 30:19Speaker 2: your smart speaker.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Please
