- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, a little
- 0:08Speaker 1: cross collaboration here with PEG's perspective. We had Dean Fresh
- 0:12Speaker 1: earlier in the week. Now we're getting Ryan Pagano mix
- 0:15Speaker 1: it up with some you know, fresh voices along with
- 0:17Speaker 1: some historical voices this week, right, Ryan.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Oh, certainly, And you can't get rid of your colleagues
- 0:23Speaker 2: on this pod, that's for sure.
- 0:24Speaker 1: There you go, All right, Ryan, Well, I know you
- 0:26Speaker 1: have a lot to say about this Super Bowl and
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm wanting to recap this week with friends of mine
- 0:31Speaker 1: and people in the sports world. What was your take?
- 0:33Speaker 1: What is Pag's perspective on the Super Bowl?
- 0:36Speaker 2: You know, it was the matchup that nobody wanted, but
- 0:38Speaker 2: it actually turned out to be a pretty good game.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's always fun to see the city of Philadelphia just
- 0:44Speaker 2: erupt an absolute chaos, especially when it comes to their birds.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Just an absolute blowout. Alex, and I know you might
- 0:53Speaker 2: not like to see that. As a Giants fan, I
- 0:55Speaker 2: get that.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Well, my wrong for being happy for Sa Kwan and
- 0:57Speaker 1: then he got his ring. I mean, look, the Giants
- 1:00Speaker 1: provided him with a great front line. I think it
- 1:02Speaker 1: would be even better for him, But he's succeeding else.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I can't knock him for that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't knock him for wanting to go to
- 1:09Speaker 2: a better situation. Philadelphia clearly offered that they've really mastered
- 1:13Speaker 2: these past few years how to build a team, and
- 1:17Speaker 2: I got to give a lot of credit to in
- 1:19Speaker 2: particular Howie Roseman. I still remember a couple of years
- 1:22Speaker 2: ago where Eagles fans just wanted him purged to Camden,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and next thing you know, he comes back a changed man.
- 1:30Speaker 2: If you will, finding all these studs in the draft,
- 1:33Speaker 2: building the Eagles back into a contender just a few
- 1:37Speaker 2: years after that Super Bowl run in twenty seventeen, building
- 1:40Speaker 2: them back up, even with mistakes like Jalen Rieger over
- 1:45Speaker 2: Justin Jefferson, it didn't really come back to haunt them
- 1:47Speaker 2: in the end. They still found studs all throughout the drafts,
- 1:51Speaker 2: whether it was first round, even in the later rounds.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And you could remember saying with Sirianni because a lot
- 1:56Speaker 1: of people wanted him gone after Week five, A lot
- 2:00Speaker 1: of people want him gone after last year's disaster.
- 2:02Speaker 2: If you remember, oh yeah, I was one of the
- 2:04Speaker 2: people that I'll throw myself into that category. I was
- 2:07Speaker 2: one of the people that thought, Nick Sirianni probably didn't
- 2:10Speaker 2: deserve another year, especially after that embarrassing playoff loss. But
- 2:15Speaker 2: that's the good thing about time, Alex is that it
- 2:18Speaker 2: can really change your perceptions on different human beings. And
- 2:22Speaker 2: that is never more prevalent than in the game of football.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And my perspective on Sirianni has really changed. Seeing him
- 2:30Speaker 2: with his kids celebrating on the camera after the game
- 2:35Speaker 2: really changed my mind about this.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Even sequon with his daughter that was precious.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, seeing these guys with their families after
- 2:42Speaker 2: the fact really just puts in a perspective how much
- 2:45Speaker 2: this means to them and how much they have to
- 2:47Speaker 2: sacrifice to.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Now let's dive into the personnel a little bit, because
- 2:51Speaker 1: on the defensive side, I guess Sweat was the big
- 2:54Speaker 1: player of the day on Sunday. But when Jason Kelsey retired,
- 2:58Speaker 1: was there a lot of concern that you heard, Hey,
- 3:01Speaker 1: how will this defensive line move on from Kelsey? Or
- 3:03Speaker 1: do you think they are They're past that now obviously.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean really doesn't seem like it's been much
- 3:09Speaker 2: of a problem as far as the old line goes. Yes,
- 3:11Speaker 2: losing a piece like Jason Kelcey is gonna really hurt.
- 3:15Speaker 2: We saw, especially in that twenty seventeen run, that he
- 3:18Speaker 2: was really the leader of that O line. And you
- 3:21Speaker 2: saw his speech at to the city of Philadelphia after
- 3:24Speaker 2: winning the Super Bowl. That speech doesn't want to make
- 3:27Speaker 2: you run through a brick wall, then, I genuinely don't
- 3:31Speaker 2: know what will. But even as one piece goes out,
- 3:34Speaker 2: it seems like it doesn't really make too much of
- 3:36Speaker 2: it of a difference to the rest of the quality
- 3:38Speaker 2: of the line. You still have guys like Jordan Mylotta,
- 3:42Speaker 2: a revival from former Jet Mackai Beckton, Mean Johnson still
- 3:46Speaker 2: wrecking it up as always hasn't seemed like much of
- 3:49Speaker 2: a problem for him.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Now I need to go back to the history books
- 3:52Speaker 1: because I don't remember ever not only just a Super
- 3:56Speaker 1: Bowl winning team a head coach becoming a head coach,
- 4:00Speaker 1: which in the host city. I mean, now Kellen Moore
- 4:03Speaker 1: goes to the Saints. It's a geeky thing that he
- 4:06Speaker 1: just coached the Egos to a Super Bowl and now
- 4:09Speaker 1: he's gonna be coaching it on that sateelline. That's never
- 4:11Speaker 1: happened before in my lifetime that I can remember.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't really think of any other time that
- 4:16Speaker 2: that's happened, and that's kind of more so of an
- 4:18Speaker 2: indictment on nobody really wanting to take the Saints job.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You can make that argument because this off season for
- 4:26Speaker 2: the Saints was just defined by so many coaches turning
- 4:29Speaker 2: them down. Mike McCarthy being the big one, used to
- 4:32Speaker 2: be New Orleans's O coordinator back in the early two
- 4:35Speaker 2: thousands when they won their first ever playoff game, actually
- 4:39Speaker 2: against the Greate Issue on Turf Rams in two thousand.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy was the O coordinator of that squad and I
- 4:44Speaker 2: remember him being a very hot commodity in the head
- 4:46Speaker 2: coaching market that off season. I think he was rumored
- 4:49Speaker 2: to go to Tampa Bay when Tony Dungee was fired
- 4:53Speaker 2: after the one season. Ultimately they went with John Gruden
- 4:57Speaker 2: and McCarthy ended up a couple of years later with
- 4:59Speaker 2: the Past Hackers. And you know, regardless of his criticisms
- 5:04Speaker 2: throughout his time in Green Bay and Dallas, he's still
- 5:07Speaker 2: a former Saint that has shown that he can light
- 5:11Speaker 2: it up on the biggest stage when it matters the most.
- 5:14Speaker 2: And you never know, maybe Kellamont could speaking.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Of that coaches real quick. The reinvention of Sean Payton
- 5:21Speaker 1: after Bountygate with Denver. I mean, that's that's pretty cool
- 5:24Speaker 1: too to see. So, you know, New Orleans is a
- 5:27Speaker 1: rich history. I talk with Luke Tourminello and we even said,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, it's gonna be a rough, rough offseason for
- 5:33Speaker 1: them because they're walking in a situation where Derek Carr's
- 5:36Speaker 1: not one hundred percent is he even their future? Like,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't even know what their future is right now
- 5:40Speaker 1: in New Orleans.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, the rest of the team has just been banged
- 5:44Speaker 2: up so badly it's really impossible to figure out what
- 5:48Speaker 2: their other problems are. And it's really no wonder why
- 5:51Speaker 2: Saints fans are calling for Mickey Loomis's head at this point.
- 5:53Speaker 2: It speaks volumes when he has been employed with the
- 5:57Speaker 2: Saints as their general manager longer than I have been alive.
- 6:00Speaker 2: For context, I was born in the July of two
- 6:03Speaker 2: thousand and two. He was appointed GM in May of
- 6:06Speaker 2: two thousand and two. So yeah, he built up a
- 6:09Speaker 2: super Bowl winning team. But it's really the cold hard
- 6:13Speaker 2: truth of the sports industries that everybody's got an expiration date.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And clearly after the Drew Brees retirement and Sean Payton leaving,
- 6:21Speaker 2: it was really just a matter of time before Loomis's
- 6:23Speaker 2: expiration date arrived. But nonetheless, he's still gonna be revered
- 6:28Speaker 2: by Saints fans for that Super Bowl winning team in nine.
- 6:32Speaker 3: There's no question.
- 6:33Speaker 1: All right, gotta ask you this for PEG's perspective, you're
- 6:36Speaker 1: also hot on the Knicks right now. I mean, another
- 6:39Speaker 1: big win last night. Karl Anthony Towns has been the
- 6:43Speaker 1: difference maker all season long? Am I right in that?
- 6:46Speaker 3: Most? Certainly one hundred percent?
- 6:47Speaker 1: So what is Pag's perspective on this? Because you're a
- 6:50Speaker 1: huge Knick fan.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, huge Knicks fan, And I'll admit there there have
- 6:54Speaker 2: been a few times this season where it seemed like
- 6:58Speaker 2: this team wasn't really as fun as the twenty twenty
- 7:01Speaker 2: fourth squad that almost made it to the conference finals.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Of course, leads into the Pacers in a seventh game,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and there was just something about every loss Alex where
- 7:10Speaker 2: it seemed like Knicks fans were just ready to jump
- 7:13Speaker 2: off the train after every loss in well, let's go
- 7:17Speaker 2: the runs done.
- 7:18Speaker 3: But then again they.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Win five or six in a row, they lose to
- 7:21Speaker 1: I think it was the Bulls or one of those teams. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, it's the end of the world, Like, no,
- 7:25Speaker 1: we don't operate like that exactly.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Like you still have these forty point performances from Karl
- 7:31Speaker 2: Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson. They're just single handedly carrying
- 7:35Speaker 2: this team once again. And yeah, Karl Anthony Towns really
- 7:40Speaker 2: has been the big difference maker because now you've got
- 7:43Speaker 2: Julius Randall missing time with the Timberwolves, dud to injury,
- 7:46Speaker 2: still a great player when he's on the course.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And oh my god, the three point dude who actually
- 7:52Speaker 1: caused a scuffle when he was back here. Vincenzo. What's
- 7:55Speaker 1: he been doing out there?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah, Devincenzo, you don't really hear a lot about it now,
- 8:00Speaker 2: mostly because he's just been invisible record for the Timberwolves.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And I hate to see that because he was so
- 8:06Speaker 2: clutch for the Nicks last year. But you know, it
- 8:10Speaker 2: really is tough to keep everybody happy, especially when this
- 8:13Speaker 2: is a business. He didn't want to be the fifth option.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I can't really blame him, especially for his performance just
- 8:19Speaker 2: last season, really stepping it up when other guys on
- 8:21Speaker 2: the team went down with injuries. But that's really the cold,
- 8:24Speaker 2: hard truth of the sport.
- 8:27Speaker 1: All right. You know, I got to ask about pagas
- 8:29Speaker 1: perspective because you're on the Spreaker team as well, Right,
- 8:32Speaker 1: that's your flagship, So what can we expect when we
- 8:35Speaker 1: listen to PAGs perspective? All right?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Well, more so the same current news topics that I've
- 8:42Speaker 2: really been pumping out a lot lately. Actually coming off
- 8:45Speaker 2: my second straight day of uploading all current news related events.
- 8:51Speaker 2: So Wednesday night I published an episode about Kanye West's
- 8:55Speaker 2: anti Semitic Super Bowl ad and just kind of ranting
- 8:58Speaker 2: about that. And then earlier today, the day that we're
- 9:01Speaker 2: recording this, I just uploaded an episode another one about
- 9:07Speaker 2: President Trump and how he's barring AP reporters from the
- 9:11Speaker 2: White House Press Corps, and being a former news director
- 9:14Speaker 2: of my college's radio station, I really wanted to use
- 9:17Speaker 2: that perspective that I've gained from a journalistic perspective.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It is both sides, but I think that just sounds unnatural.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think AP should be allowed in there, right, Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I Mean they've been involved with the Press Corps for
- 9:31Speaker 2: god knows how long, so it does feel a little weird,
- 9:34Speaker 2: especially when they're the ones pumping out the style guides
- 9:37Speaker 2: for all these other news organizations to see. But on
- 9:40Speaker 2: the topic of PAX perspective, Alex, I've also started up
- 9:43Speaker 2: a new series because you know, I'm a big Isles
- 9:46Speaker 2: fan and even yeah, and even when they're in the break,
- 9:50Speaker 2: I've actually started up a series recently called The Cross
- 9:53Speaker 2: Islanders Park where where I'm recapping New York Islanders games,
- 9:57Speaker 2: giving sound bites from play coaches.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Really really feel like you're channeling your w RHU producer
- 10:05Speaker 1: skills right.
- 10:05Speaker 3: There, exactly.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because I've done so much of that with the Islanders,
- 10:10Speaker 2: pumping out all these features and doing updates for the
- 10:13Speaker 2: team to me personally, eats by one way of staying
- 10:17Speaker 2: connected with the team and not just as a fan.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Shout out to Kinger and shout out to Picker, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: shout out to Hick.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Corey right Maulin of course.
- 10:29Speaker 1: All all them, all the.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Digital crew at the Islanders and the radio people. I mean,
- 10:34Speaker 2: I still love him to death.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Very cool, and I think Corey was the guy that
- 10:37Speaker 1: covered the event with the Viscardi School last year, if
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So yeah, Corey was there. If I'm not I'm pretty sure.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he's pretty much the number one guy running the
- 10:50Speaker 1: digital team.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I also got to give a shout out as well
- 10:53Speaker 2: to Rachel Lucier. She's also part of that Isles digital team.
- 10:58Speaker 2: But what you might not know, Alex, she was my
- 11:00Speaker 2: mentor going into WRU back in the summer of twenty
- 11:03Speaker 2: twenty one.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So how about that. And now you're at nine to
- 11:05Speaker 1: seventy by.
- 11:06Speaker 2: The way, Yeah, it's just kind of funny how these
- 11:07Speaker 2: things work.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And every Radig Martinek and watching him play in a
- 11:12Speaker 1: wheelchair was very interesting to watch him have to adapt
- 11:15Speaker 1: to that because obviously Radick is a legend with the Islanders.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he played there, I believe a couple
- 11:21Speaker 2: stints if I recall, But you know, he started there
- 11:24Speaker 2: in the very early two thousands, kind of a bleak
- 11:27Speaker 2: time for the franchise, even as they made that playoff
- 11:31Speaker 2: run in one oh two, losing in the first round.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But he ended up finishing his career there, I believe.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And with the Boldly situation, it was a bit confusing
- 11:39Speaker 1: at that point, wasn't it. I mean, was Di Pietro
- 11:42Speaker 1: was there and then it got a little hairy after that.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I mean there was, there was a lot going on
- 11:46Speaker 1: in that era.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, after seven o eight it just got
- 11:49Speaker 2: really really hairy because d Pietro's body failed him and
- 11:54Speaker 2: then you have guys like u Yan Donnis and Joey
- 11:58Speaker 2: McDonald starting a net. It was certainly an interesting time
- 12:03Speaker 2: for this team.
- 12:03Speaker 1: All right, So you're following the Islanders hardcore. Are they
- 12:08Speaker 1: gonna stick with one in the future. I mean, I
- 12:09Speaker 1: feel like he's still a great coach. He's rallying them
- 12:12Speaker 1: almost nine and a night out, so they've reeled off
- 12:14Speaker 1: if he wins in a row here.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they certainly have. The special teams especially has made
- 12:19Speaker 2: a big improvement And for once, I can't believe I'm
- 12:22Speaker 2: saying this, but this is actually credit to Lou Lambarello.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He made some moves even as other guys on their
- 12:29Speaker 2: blue line went down. He brought in Scott Perudovich. He
- 12:31Speaker 2: brought in Tony DiAngelo, while a very controversial figure.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But Rena's after they brought him in, they been winning
- 12:38Speaker 1: a lot more since he came in.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So yeah, Lou specifically brought them in to quarterback the
- 12:43Speaker 2: power play and quarterback the power play. They have done
- 12:46Speaker 2: seen a massive improvement in their special teams since those acquisitions,
- 12:51Speaker 2: so it almost seems like they've been firing on all
- 12:54Speaker 2: cylinders now. Yes, they are coming off of two straight
- 12:57Speaker 2: losses to Winnipeg and Minnesota going in of the Ford
- 13:00Speaker 2: Nations break, So whether or not they'll be able to
- 13:03Speaker 2: keep that up when they come back in about a
- 13:05Speaker 2: week and a half against the Stars at home, it's
- 13:08Speaker 2: really anybody's guess how they're gonna play out of the gate.
- 13:10Speaker 2: But there's definitely a lot to be optimistic gone on.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Them for all three teams because the Devils are in
- 13:14Speaker 1: the running too. Let's not mistake that the break couldn't
- 13:17Speaker 1: have come in a better time, am I right?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Certainly couldn't have. And then your Rangers are starting to
- 13:22Speaker 2: make a bit of a comeback too, and.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be Crider Versavanta Jad
- 13:26Speaker 1: and we'll see how fun that is on the ice
- 13:29Speaker 1: and whatnot. We were gonna go up to Boston, by
- 13:31Speaker 1: the way, but it's gonna be too snowy to go,
- 13:33Speaker 1: so not not this weekend, but maybe one year.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you know you'll get there at some point, that's
- 13:38Speaker 2: for sure.
- 13:38Speaker 1: All right. One last thing, because you're a big basketball guy.
- 13:41Speaker 1: We did talk about the Knicks, but you texted me
- 13:43Speaker 1: like two in the morning, three in the morning, don't
- 13:46Speaker 1: gets to the Lakers. And I'm like, what is he
- 13:48Speaker 1: talking about? What's PEG's perspective on this major trade? And
- 13:52Speaker 1: I asked Blue Terminello this, I'm gonna ask you. Does
- 13:55Speaker 1: it open the floodgates for more craziness as far as
- 13:59Speaker 1: these big star traders. That's open a floodgate here?
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, certainly.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And if there's one thing that this Luka Doncicz trade proved,
- 14:06Speaker 2: it's that no trade proposals are stupid. And I talked
- 14:09Speaker 2: about this on another podcast one that my friend runs
- 14:14Speaker 2: called Primetime Sports. I mentioned on there how in two
- 14:18Speaker 2: K NBA two K, you could put that exact same
- 14:22Speaker 2: trade into the trade generator and the MAVs will reject
- 14:27Speaker 2: that trade. It doesn't go through. The most ironic part
- 14:31Speaker 2: about that is the fictional GM and the game saying
- 14:36Speaker 2: Luka Doncic is somebody we consider untouchable. We will only
- 14:40Speaker 2: consider trading him if the package that you give us
- 14:43Speaker 2: blows us away. And this offer just doesn't. Haven't hasn't
- 14:47Speaker 2: done that, mind you, It's the same exact package that
- 14:51Speaker 2: the Lakers traded to get him. In real life, Let's
- 14:56Speaker 2: just say this has moved some tectonic plates.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And I know that you're a fan of of people
- 15:01Speaker 1: dictating their moves by games, like Woody Johnson, not what
- 15:04Speaker 1: was it You want to draft a certain guy because
- 15:06Speaker 1: his kids said don't draft him, and then you know
- 15:08Speaker 1: it's just me.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, they didn't want to trade for Jerry Judy because
- 15:11Speaker 2: his Maddened rating was too low. And then they sign
- 15:13Speaker 2: a wide receiver Mike Williams, whose mad In rating was
- 15:16Speaker 2: higher than Jerry Judy. But you know it really speaks
- 15:21Speaker 2: volumes when he only lasted not even half a season
- 15:24Speaker 2: with the Jets. I know that was to get Devanta
- 15:27Speaker 2: Adams on the team, bringing one of Aaron Rodgers old buddies.
- 15:30Speaker 2: But that only worked so well, and by well, I
- 15:33Speaker 2: mean it worked horribly.
- 15:36Speaker 1: All Right, two more questions, A. Will you listen to
- 15:39Speaker 1: Lucas Farra and change your name and Paganos rituals or
- 15:42Speaker 1: that's off the table.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Right I met I'm still considering that.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I mean, I got to figure out what ritual is
- 15:47Speaker 2: to talk about here, but you know, nothing's off the table.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Secondly, Secondly, you mentioned the Jets, and today they officially
- 15:55Speaker 1: part away with Aaron Rodgers. Uh, I don't think the
- 15:59Speaker 1: Giants are in the I don't think that they should
- 16:01Speaker 1: go for them. But what are your thoughts on that?
- 16:04Speaker 1: And then I want to end the show by saying,
- 16:06Speaker 1: you agree with me that the Giants should be motivated
- 16:08Speaker 1: by what happened on Sunday and how how did both
- 16:12Speaker 1: teams move on and how do they both get motivated
- 16:13Speaker 1: by what they saw from the Eagles. I feel like
- 16:16Speaker 1: there's a system that can be built here in New
- 16:17Speaker 1: York and and for both teams. Right it's it's corners
- 16:22Speaker 1: stoning around even a running back. Maybe both teams need
- 16:24Speaker 1: to do that. I mean, look here in New York
- 16:26Speaker 1: they have Bryce Breese Hall and Tyrone Tracy. Corners on
- 16:30Speaker 1: those guys and they could be in the playoffs next year.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yes, surround them with the line, give them a good QB,
- 16:35Speaker 2: a good defense, which the Jets already have. Giants have
- 16:39Speaker 2: some pieces on the other side of the ball, and
- 16:41Speaker 2: you're set for a very good future.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Ryan Byrne is one of the tallest defensive guys I've
- 16:47Speaker 1: ever seen.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Did you notice that?
- 16:49Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, it is just me and have been
- 16:53Speaker 1: really incredible though, and I'm hoping Kavon's fully healthy this year.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But yeah, motivation do you think so ony his win
- 17:00Speaker 1: for the Egos as a motivation not only for the
- 17:02Speaker 1: Jets and Giants, the whole league to see what they
- 17:04Speaker 1: could do.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Hey, we could do it too, Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Well for the Giants, if you're John Mara, you just
- 17:10Speaker 2: got to invest in getting yourself a good night's sleep,
- 17:12Speaker 2: because it was very infamous on Hard Knocks for saying
- 17:15Speaker 2: that if he let Saquon Barkley go and never mind
- 17:18Speaker 2: to Philadelphia, that he was gonna lose a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 2: sleep over that. Sure enough, first year with them wins
- 17:24Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, lets him get away. Now, the consolation
- 17:26Speaker 2: price isn't all too bad because you get Tyrone Tracy.
- 17:29Speaker 2: He showed a lot of flashes just last season and
- 17:32Speaker 2: he could very well be the feature back for the
- 17:35Speaker 2: Giants for years to come. But with that being said,
- 17:38Speaker 2: they still got to build around the guy. Whether that
- 17:41Speaker 2: means getting a veteran QB like Matt Stafford's been in
- 17:45Speaker 2: a bunch of rumors, Yeah, of course, Aaron Rodgers getting cut.
- 17:49Speaker 2: You know, the the rumors are there and It's definitely
- 17:53Speaker 2: very clear that the Giants could very well go the
- 17:55Speaker 2: rookie QB route. You bring in a vet, just bench
- 17:59Speaker 2: the rookie the tire season, let them learn from somebody
- 18:03Speaker 2: who's been there before, proved it on the biggest stage.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Rogers and Stafford being Super Bowl champions in the past.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You got yourself a pretty good formula to developing another
- 18:16Speaker 2: rookie QB.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Well, I was gonna say, how, I'm gonna say, packs
- 18:19Speaker 1: perspectives to keep the name going here exactly.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I gotta keep the theme, but packs perspectives.
- 18:24Speaker 1: On the continual drafting of quarterbacks, It's like, I get it,
- 18:29Speaker 1: But at the same time, some of these seems to
- 18:32Speaker 1: prioritize their line first.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, they really do, because you've seen it with guys
- 18:38Speaker 2: like David Carr for example, promising, promising quarterbacks that just
- 18:44Speaker 2: get ruined because none of these teams have good lines
- 18:49Speaker 2: to surround them with. You can't have I mean, you
- 18:52Speaker 2: could have a promising rookie QB, yes, but if you
- 18:54Speaker 2: don't have the brick wall in front of him to
- 18:57Speaker 2: protect him, then the heck is are gonna right.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And so that's why I think the priority needs to
- 19:03Speaker 1: be on that and again, you give Tracy a good line,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you give the Breeze Hall a good line. You got too,
- 19:09Speaker 1: maybe I'm being boldier Hall of Fame running back. So
- 19:12Speaker 1: they just look.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Good and listen. You could say what you want about
- 19:15Speaker 2: Evan Neil and him being a massive disappointment in New York.
- 19:18Speaker 2: That being said, I will never be mad with investing
- 19:21Speaker 2: in the line, even if it means using your first
- 19:23Speaker 2: round pick on an old lineman. I will never be
- 19:26Speaker 2: mad with building in the trench.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Well, I think it was more because he was such
- 19:28Speaker 1: a He had such an attitude about it too. I
- 19:30Speaker 1: mean he wasn't just uh, he was telling people to go, yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 1: you're making It's like, what are you doing, dude?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Because that made a lot of huge headlines on the
- 19:38Speaker 2: fan back then.
- 19:40Speaker 3: But what reason.
- 19:40Speaker 1: We both love sports, but we also love news. So
- 19:42Speaker 1: tell us how you strike a balance on both.
- 19:46Speaker 2: On PEG's perspective, Oh, striking a balance. That's a very
- 19:49Speaker 2: good question. You know, more so comes down to what
- 19:53Speaker 2: the topics of the day really are. Because when I
- 19:55Speaker 2: first created this podcast, I really wanted to give myself
- 19:58Speaker 2: a platform to be a to talk about all these
- 20:02Speaker 2: current events, whether it's new sports pop culture related. I
- 20:05Speaker 2: did a lot of that back on the morning show
- 20:08Speaker 2: at my college's radio station, where we just talked a
- 20:12Speaker 2: lot about the news of the day. Wasn't really sports oriented,
- 20:14Speaker 2: so to speak, but that was more current topics of
- 20:17Speaker 2: the day, kind of similar to MPRS All Things considered, sure,
- 20:21Speaker 2: if that makes sense. So I really enjoyed doing that,
- 20:25Speaker 2: even though it was a bit of a hassle waking
- 20:28Speaker 2: up early to.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Because you're young, Ampstead, because you're younger, and I feel
- 20:32Speaker 1: like you have this idea that I have when I
- 20:34Speaker 1: started eleven years ago, which is you gotta tap into
- 20:37Speaker 1: this generation or generations before or after us, because if
- 20:41Speaker 1: we can just tell them, hey, especially for me, if
- 20:43Speaker 1: I tell them how our tax dollars are being spent,
- 20:46Speaker 1: that drives me because I want us to be informed, right,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean that's why we started these podcasts.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, not only be informed, but also just be completely
- 20:54Speaker 2: transparent about it. It's the reason why DOGE was formed
- 20:57Speaker 2: in the first place. It's the reason why Elon Musk
- 21:00Speaker 2: just wants our government to be completely transparent.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Is he president? I asked you this off air. Is
- 21:06Speaker 1: he presents everything makes it seem like he's the president,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and apparently Trump's just his puppet. I don't know exactly
- 21:12Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 21:13Speaker 2: There, but well, you can try to impeach Elon, but
- 21:16Speaker 2: it's only going to get you so far because he's
- 21:18Speaker 2: not currently sinning president. I mean, there's no denying that
- 21:21Speaker 2: he has a big influence in Trump's decisions, especially in
- 21:24Speaker 2: his second term, no question, But it's still Trump calling
- 21:28Speaker 2: the shots in the end, regardless of what anybody wants.
- 21:30Speaker 3: You know, it's funny.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Trump will make him aware of that, pretty suon if
- 21:33Speaker 1: things look the way they are, meaning if he looks
- 21:36Speaker 1: to be more powerful, Trump will find a way to say, no,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'm still president.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And a lot of pundits have been saying that perhaps
- 21:42Speaker 2: there have been a couple of cracks forming in that
- 21:44Speaker 2: Trump Elon relationship. Whether or not those cracks are actually
- 21:47Speaker 2: legitimate or not, it's really anybody's guess.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Is that right? That is so funny to me, He's crazy.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 2: All we can really do is just sit around until
- 21:57Speaker 2: we actually know for certain that there are.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Cracks, all right.
- 22:00Speaker 1: One last thing, it's SNL fifty big fan of SNL or.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I watch it every now and then.
- 22:06Speaker 2: If I'm able to. Of course, well, we get.
- 22:09Speaker 1: To work with an slah with.
- 22:11Speaker 2: A certain former SNL cast member, you know, Joe Piscapo,
- 22:15Speaker 2: And you've had a couple more of those cast members
- 22:18Speaker 2: I know.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And maybe we'll be at the outside hard Rock thirty
- 22:21Speaker 1: Rock and just see what we can see on Sunday.
- 22:23Speaker 1: It's gonna be a big day here in the city
- 22:25Speaker 1: for that. They're barricades all over NBC studios.
- 22:27Speaker 2: By the way, of course, when I'm not gonna be there.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I know, we'll tell us you're going to Tampa. You're
- 22:32Speaker 1: going to Port Saint Lucy to scout out the Mets
- 22:35Speaker 1: for everybody up here in New York that.
- 22:36Speaker 3: At some point.
- 22:37Speaker 2: But well, tomorrow, Alex, I'm actually leaving for the windy
- 22:41Speaker 2: city of Chicago. It's gonna be kind of fun. They're
- 22:45Speaker 2: dealing with negative degree weather. But I'm going up there
- 22:48Speaker 2: to visit family. My cousin's son, he's getting baptized over
- 22:53Speaker 2: the weekend, so it's gonna be very awesome to see him.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Two weeks from now, Yes, it will be at Mets
- 23:00Speaker 2: spring training, so there's a lot to look forward to there.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Of course, them adding Wan Soto, but also them bringing
- 23:06Speaker 2: back Pete Alonzo's Sean Manaiya and even Klay Holmes bringing
- 23:11Speaker 2: him in.
- 23:11Speaker 1: We were able to get to Amazing Day. But were
- 23:13Speaker 1: you surprised that fans were so vocal with Steve Cohen
- 23:17Speaker 1: because I feel like the Met fan base doesn't always
- 23:20Speaker 1: shot down ownership like that, but they did. They were like, hey,
- 23:23Speaker 1: sign the guy, and I guess he listened, right.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's actually something I talked about a month
- 23:28Speaker 2: ago here on Pack's perspective, just all the interesting headlines
- 23:32Speaker 2: to come from Amazing Day, but seeing the reactions to
- 23:37Speaker 2: the Met fans and attendance wanting them to resign Pete Alonzo.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I think that played a big part in Alonso coming
- 23:43Speaker 2: back to the Mets in the first place. He realized
- 23:45Speaker 2: how much the fans meant to him there, and you know,
- 23:49Speaker 2: his met legacy was on the line.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 2: With this free agency, he's only one good season away
- 23:55Speaker 2: from becoming the Mets' all time home run leader. I
- 23:58Speaker 2: believe he's only twenty seven be away from breaking down.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Said I was to say, hit home run two hundred,
- 24:03Speaker 1: that was pretty cool last year twenty.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Four, even in a down year for Alonzo, which you
- 24:09Speaker 2: know for him is thirty five or so Homer's eighty
- 24:12Speaker 2: nine RBIs. That's still pretty good either way from the guy.
- 24:15Speaker 1: All right, if you want to post this on your podcast,
- 24:17Speaker 1: you can any questions you have for me before we
- 24:19Speaker 1: sign out to because I know you're an interviewer as well,
- 24:22Speaker 1: so ah.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Man, you're putting me on the spot here. I mean,
- 24:26Speaker 2: you know, the one thing that I have told friends
- 24:29Speaker 2: in the past because we were just talking about the
- 24:30Speaker 2: Mets now, but I still tell everybody. And I don't
- 24:34Speaker 2: mean this just to you know, suck up to Yankee
- 24:36Speaker 2: fans and all that, but I truly believe that the
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yankees have had the better off season by far. They've
- 24:43Speaker 2: They've added a lot of big pieces and you know,
- 24:47Speaker 2: Max Freed, Cody Bellinger, Devin Williams, Paul Goldschmid Max, to
- 24:52Speaker 2: be honest, I need, yeah, yeah, to be honest, I
- 24:54Speaker 2: feel like they've just had the better off season there.
- 24:57Speaker 2: So you know, I don't know what your thoughts are
- 24:59Speaker 2: about that and how optimistic are you for this Yankee season?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Because I also saw you were meeting a couple Yanks salums.
- 25:06Speaker 1: That was very cool, especially Hall of Famer New Hall
- 25:08Speaker 1: of Famer Ce Sabathia. I mean, you can't make that.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, CC Sabathia. Man, he looks taller in person.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And he shared that post on on his Instagram, which
- 25:16Speaker 1: is pretty goold. Yeah, but let me tell you, I
- 25:19Speaker 1: still think they needed that infielder. I see everybody on
- 25:21Speaker 1: XA and go for Nolan Ernado. Guy is not always
- 25:25Speaker 1: a good He may not be the best in the clubhouse.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I don't know. His personality doesn't seem always great. But
- 25:32Speaker 1: but they do need another bat. I mean, they just
- 25:34Speaker 1: lost out on Bregman now, and that's gonna be a
- 25:37Speaker 1: big deal when he comes to the Bronx in a
- 25:38Speaker 1: Red Sox uniform. We thought him in Answer Universe was bad.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Imagine him coming back in the Red so treachery. So
- 25:45Speaker 2: but also, you know, thoughts on the contract. I thought
- 25:47Speaker 2: it was a big overpay from the moment that well, because.
- 25:51Speaker 1: He is older now and I think he's been a year.
- 25:54Speaker 1: He's been a little injured too, right, So there's that also,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I mean there's he.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Just hasn't been his twenty nineteen self, which is about
- 26:00Speaker 2: to happen.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And the Ashles were not their twenty even twenty twenty
- 26:05Speaker 1: when they last won itself.
- 26:06Speaker 3: They have not been twenty seventy two.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, they've not been that either.
- 26:09Speaker 2: But now they're also trying out two v out in
- 26:11Speaker 2: left field. I mean, do you get what they're trying
- 26:13Speaker 2: to do now, Alex.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Well, what I'm trying to figure out is how you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and I met manager Boone. He's great, is how he's
- 26:20Speaker 1: just trying to figure out, well, who's gonna play first base?
- 26:22Speaker 1: It's like they have no infield play it yet it
- 26:25Speaker 1: drives me, drives me crazy.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like that happened in Costello sketch here because
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'm on first, what's on second? I don't know who's
- 26:31Speaker 2: on third? Because I'm waiting applies for the infield.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Here, I'm waiting anyway, Pag's perspective, you can find him
- 26:36Speaker 1: here on your spriggered out or everywhere right, Spotify and elsewhere.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Well soon to be on Spotify.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Well soon enough, you'll get there. You'll get there.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Yeah, well we're a getting there.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Were When you get your first syndication through Speaker, it
- 26:47Speaker 1: is so fun because like, wow, I'm actually elsewhere.
- 26:50Speaker 2: So yeah, I still recall when I made my first
- 26:52Speaker 2: dollar on Speaker. I was like, Okay, I actually made
- 26:55Speaker 2: it only took me almost a year.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Do you get people asking you all the time, how
- 26:59Speaker 1: do I start? What you're doing? Now? I get that
- 27:01Speaker 1: question sometimes and I always say, well, just start, even
- 27:03Speaker 1: if it's a free account, just start. And the biggest
- 27:06Speaker 1: thing you can't be afraid of is who's listening. Just talk,
- 27:10Speaker 1: Just talk. That's why we started these things, Just talk.
- 27:12Speaker 2: And you know that podcast that I mentioned to you earlier,
- 27:14Speaker 2: Primetime Sports, was founded by one of my friends and
- 27:17Speaker 2: two of his other colleagues at his job. I think
- 27:20Speaker 2: part of the inspiration actually was because my friend saw
- 27:24Speaker 2: that I started up my platform here on spreaker now
- 27:27Speaker 2: branded he I don't believe he's on Spreaker, but he's
- 27:30Speaker 2: He's on Spotify YouTube. They've also been posting a lot
- 27:34Speaker 2: of TikTok Instagram clips as well, so they've been kind
- 27:37Speaker 2: of hacking the algorithm there and doing a pretty good
- 27:39Speaker 2: job at that.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Well, there you go. And I know the FYP for
- 27:43Speaker 1: you pages ever, that's how I got linked on my
- 27:45Speaker 1: show yesterday, the for you page.
- 27:47Speaker 2: So yeah, that was a heck of an interview.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Well I'm alway president. There you go. I'm always excited
- 27:52Speaker 1: to share my updates with you and I like when
- 27:54Speaker 1: you get to share your updates with us here on
- 27:56Speaker 1: the One Leg Up Network. We'll be doing this collab
- 27:58Speaker 1: again for sure.
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's how we grow radio guys. Alex appreciate it as.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Always, and Happy World Radio Day speaking oh thank.
- 28:04Speaker 2: You, Yes, World Radio Day every February thirteenth. Just a
- 28:08Speaker 2: great time to reflect back on all the experiences of
- 28:11Speaker 2: my radio career that have helped shape me to where
- 28:14Speaker 2: I am right now.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Amen to that, Ryan Pagano Pag's perspective, check him out,
- 28:19Speaker 1: and thanks for being a great colleague and friend.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Same to you as well, Alex, thank you
