- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:31coop. Today we are talking about a
- 0:32little book called A Complaint Free World.
- 0:35And the reason we're talking about this is so that, oh, look
- 0:38at him right on cue so that we can understand how much we
- 0:44complain and how many little triggers we have.
- 0:47So this little book, it's not a very big book.
- 0:51You can find it on Amazon. It was written by a pastor who
- 0:55initially did this with his congregation to try to get
- 0:58everybody to stop complaining. And in the process of this
- 1:03little exercise like you had, he has this little Lance Armstrong
- 1:06type bracelet that was purple. And you put the bracelet on and
- 1:10over the course of 21 days, you're not supposed to complain.
- 1:13And if you complain about anything, you switch the hand,
- 1:16like you have to take the bracelet off and put it on the
- 1:18other hand. So this little book is an
- 1:21excellent tool to recognize. How many times we find things to
- 1:27complain about. Now there is a difference
- 1:30between complaining and saying oh this is broken, it needs to
- 1:34be fixed. If you're having a fact and a
- 1:36non emotional reaction to it, then that is not necessarily a
- 1:41complaint, but when you are complaining.
- 1:44The key is you are not doing anything to fix it.
- 1:47You are not taking it on and saying, OK, I'm going to fix
- 1:50this, which then just turns into a a trigger that sets you off.
- 1:55And then you're not doing anything, you're just letting it
- 1:58stack and stack and stack and before you know it, you're going
- 2:01to blow like a top. Now I am full confession.
- 2:05This is something that I do really, really well.
- 2:07I don't complain, but I stack things up and I just all of a
- 2:11sudden. I tolerate it, tolerate it,
- 2:13tolerate it. Boom.
- 2:13And then I go and I have to make sure that I'm recognizing that.
- 2:18This all starts back to noticing when you are complaining because
- 2:22what is setting you off is essentially a series of
- 2:25complaints that you've had and you just haven't dealt with
- 2:28them. You've just been going on and
- 2:29on, ignoring it, whatever it is, and nothing gets done.
- 2:32And and it's, you know, it just blows off all at once.
- 2:37But when you recognize that you have.
- 2:41This core thing in the beginning that says these complaints are
- 2:45little tiny windows into my everyday thing.
- 2:49You know, I have a client who lives in a very cold area and
- 2:54she was talking to me just recently about how out of the
- 2:57clear blue sky they had ice. And she said her window had an
- 3:02ice shield over it. And she was very irritated that
- 3:04it was already happening this early in the season that she had
- 3:07the ice and what not. And I said, well, I mean.
- 3:10Did you know it was going to get cold?
- 3:12And she said yes. And myself, starter in my car is
- 3:16broken. And I said, did you know it was
- 3:18broken last year? Yes.
- 3:20OK. So do you, do you have the funds
- 3:23to fix it? Yes.
- 3:24OK. So she's got all these things
- 3:26and she knew it at the end of the season.
- 3:29And she said, I said to her, were you complaining about it
- 3:32last year that it wasn't working?
- 3:33Yes. Because of the getting in the
- 3:36car and having to sit on the cold leather.
- 3:38OK, great. So you knew all along that this
- 3:41was the case and you just didn't take care of it.
- 3:45So essentially what you ended up doing was setting yourself up
- 3:48for this to happen. And she stopped.
- 3:50And she's like, you're right. I said, so complaining about it,
- 3:53is it useful? She's like, no, I guess not
- 3:55because I already knew it and it's irritating me.
- 3:57And I said great, So what should you do at this?
- 3:59Point Should you just keep complaining about it or should
- 4:02you take the time, as soon as we hang up the phone to take care
- 4:05of this and fix it? And she's like, yes, but then I
- 4:07have to drive it into the dealer.
- 4:09And this is what we do all the time, we we substitute these
- 4:15solutions for other complaints because then they're going to
- 4:18make me wait and then I'm going to have to do this.
- 4:21OK, so. We we stack and we stack and we
- 4:24stack and we stack and we stack and we stack and before you know
- 4:27it everything is irritating us. There's just one after another
- 4:30after another. So the solution to her by the
- 4:33way was I said to her, well let me ask you a question is it is
- 4:36the pleasure of having the vehicle be able to self start
- 4:41again worth the pain of the short time that you would have
- 4:44to be at the dealer? And she said, yes.
- 4:46And I said, OK, great. And is it possible that you
- 4:49could arrange it so that you could swap out the car there?
- 4:52And she goes, I've never asked. I said, well, why don't you ask?
- 4:54And sure enough, the dealer, because they were so backed up,
- 4:57said yes, we'll give you another car while we're doing this one.
- 5:00That way we don't have to rush. Boom, no aggravation.
- 5:04All because she took the time to figure that piece out.
- 5:07So. I'm going to tell you, you got
- 5:09to go back and and honestly I'll I'll recommend that book 100
- 5:13times over because the book is fabulous.
- 5:15So if you're inclined to read it, it's a complaint free world
- 5:18and it is fabulous. So you can grab the book if
- 5:22you're if you're inclined. If not just start looking at
- 5:25those complaints because they will lead to the triggers that
- 5:27will lead to the despair. And if you can just unwire them
- 5:30right from the beginning about those soft complaints,
- 5:33everything else gets better. OK my friends, I hope you have a
- 5:36blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:38Bye.
