Today, let's learn how to ask for specific weights and even negotiate a little! Lucas: Exactly. Imagine you're at a market and you want a kilo of brinjal. You'd say: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. That means 'I want one kilo of brinjal'. Lucas: Perfect. Let's break it down: నాకు means 'to me', ఒక కిలో means 'one kilo', వంకాయ is 'brinjal', and కావాలి means 'want'. So literally: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. I like how straightforward it is. What if I only want half a kilo? Lucas: Great question! You say: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. సగం means 'half', కిలో is 'kilo', ఇవ్వండి is 'give me'. So: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. Luna: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. Half a kilo, please. Got it. But what if the price seems high? Can I ask them to lower it? Lucas: You can! So I walk up to the vendor and say: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Then they tell me the price, and if it's high, I say: కొంచెం తగ్గించండి. Lucas: Yes! And if they agree, you can say: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి if you only want half. Or stick with one kilo. Luna: Okay, I'm going to try all four in a row. Here goes: ఇది ఎంత?... కొంచెం తగ్గించండి... సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి... నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Lucas: Oh, that's so good. You mixed them up naturally. Just one thing: the order might be different. Usually you'd say what you want first, then ask price, then negotiate. But you've got the phrases down! Luna: Right, right. So first: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Then: ఇది ఎంత? Then if needed: కొంచెం తగ్గించండి. And then maybe: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి if I decide on half. Lucas: Now you're thinking like a local. Let's say them together slowly. Lucas: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. Luna: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. And what about asking for one kilo of potatoes? We learned 'బంగాళాదుంప' for potato last time. Lucas: Right! You'd say: నాకు ఒక కిలో బంగాళాదుంపలు కావాలి. Notice 'బంగాళాదుంపలు' is plural. But for brinjal, it's usually the same word. So: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. And if the vendor says it's 100 rupees, I might say: కొంచెం తగ్గించండి. Lucas: Exactly. And then they might say a lower price. You can agree and say: నాకు సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి if you want less. Or just take the kilo. Luna: Let's do a little role-play. You be the vendor, I'm the customer. I'll say: నాకు ఒక కిలో వంకాయ కావాలి. Lucas: As the vendor: అది 100 రూపాయలు. Luna: కొంచెం తగ్గించండి. Lucas: సరే, 80 రూపాయలు ఇవ్వండి. Luna: సగం కిలో ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: సరే, సగం కిలో. That means 'okay, half kilo'. You did great! Luna: I love that. It feels so real.
