- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing the days of the week from last time. Lucas: Oh, that's great. And today, we're going to build on that with the months of the year. Luna: Ooh, months! I can already say a few, but let's do this properly. Lucas: Perfect. We'll go one by one. First: januari. Luna: Januari. That sounds like January, easy. Lucas: Exactly. Next: februari. Luna: Februari. So close to English. I think I can handle this. Lucas: Then we have maart. Luna: Maart. Okay, that's March. A little different. Lucas: April is the same in Dutch: april. Luna: April. That's easy. And May? Lucas: Mei. Just like the German, 'Mai'. Luna: Mei. Cute. Then summer months? Lucas: Juni and juli. Luna: Juni, juli. Very similar. Lucas: Augustus is also close: augustus. Luna: Augustus. That's a bit longer but I got it. Lucas: Then we have september, oktober, november, and december. Luna: September, oktober, november, december. Those are almost the same! Lucas: Right. Now let's practice asking what month it is. Say: Welke maand is het? Luna: Welke maand is het. Which month is it. Lucas: And to answer: Het is januari, for example. Luna: Het is januari. Got it. Lucas: Let's do a quick dialogue. I'll ask: Welke maand is het? You answer with any month. Luna: Okay. Welke maand is het? Lucas: Het is maart. Luna: Oh, I was supposed to answer! Let me try again. Welke maand is het? Lucas: Het is maart. Luna: Het is april. There! Lucas: Perfect. Now let's hear you say all twelve months in order. Luna: Oof. Let me try. Januari, februari, maart, april, mei, juni, juli, augustus, september, oktober, november, december. Lucas: Wow, that was smooth! You've been practicing. Luna: Well, I have been listening to Fexingo a lot. It really helps. Lucas: Speaking of which, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Dutch, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep making episodes like this one. Lucas: Now, back to the months. Did you know that in Dutch, birthdays are a big deal? People often celebrate with a 'verjaardag' and eat cake. Luna: Oh, I love that. So if my birthday is in mei, I say: Mijn verjaardag is in mei. Lucas: Exactly. And if someone asks: Wanneer is je verjaardag? You answer: In mei. Luna: Wanneer is je verjaardag? That's a good question to know. Lucas: Let's practice a few more. Say your birthday month. Luna: Mijn verjaardag is in december. Lucas: And mine is in augustus. Luna: Augustus. That's a nice month. Lucas: Alright, let's do one more round of the months, but this time, you say the English and I'll say the Dutch, or vice versa. Luna: Okay, I'll say the English: January. Lucas: Januari. Luna: February. Lucas: Februari. Luna: March. Lucas: Maart. Luna: April. Lucas: April. Luna: May. Lucas: Mei. Luna: June. Lucas: Juni. Luna: July. Lucas: Juli. Luna: August. Lucas: Augustus. Luna: September. Lucas: September. Luna: October. Lucas: Oktober. Luna: November. Lucas: November. Luna: December. Lucas: December. Luna: That was fun. I feel like I really know them now. Lucas: That's the goal. Practice these a few times and next time we'll talk about seasons. Luna: Oh, I'd love that. Tot ziens, Lucas! Lucas: Dag Luna! Keep practicing with Fexingo.
