- 0:17In today's episode, we'll join Ray and Annie as they reflect on the profound
- 0:22significance of Jesus' birth, particularly through the roles of Joseph and Mary.
- 0:27While many of us are familiar with the basics of the Christmas narrative.
- 0:31Ray and Annie invite us to explore its deeper lessons for today's married couples.
- 0:35Let's dive into this meaningful discussion together. Here's part one.
- 0:42There's something about Christmas that softens many hearts and draws attention
- 0:46to the birth of Jesus Christ.
- 0:48We have become accustomed to reflecting on this wonderful celebration of hope.
- 0:52Surely, many of us are very familiar with the Christmas story.
- 0:56Here at CJ Squared, we're not just shining a light on the importance of the birth of Jesus Christ.
- 1:02We'll take some time to reflect on the roles of Joseph and Mary.
- 1:06Indeed, we're familiar with their participation in this story.
- 1:09But we hope that in this week's discussion, we can take a deeper look at their
- 1:13roles and responses in relation to today's married couples.
- 1:17Before we dive into these points, let's review the backstory.
- 1:20There is great familiarity, even among those who are not consistently reading
- 1:25the Bible, that Jesus Christ is well detailed in the New Testament.
- 1:29However, if we take the time to study, we see that He is mentioned many times
- 1:34even in the Old Testament.
- 1:36Many preachers often say that the entire Bible points to Jesus Christ, our Savior.
- 1:41The prophecy of His arrival is highlighted in Isaiah 7 verse 14 and Isaiah 9 verses 6 to 7.
- 1:48We can analyze how these two verses define the child.
- 1:52First, Isaiah 7 verse 14 says, The child will be born of a virgin.
- 1:58The child will be called by His name, Emmanuel.
- 2:01Isaiah 9 verses 6 to 7 say, The child, the son, will be given to us.
- 2:07The government will rest on his shoulders.
- 2:09His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
- 2:15There will be no end to the increase of his government or peace on the throne
- 2:19of David and over his kingdom.
- 2:21His kingdom will be established and upheld with justice and righteousness.
- 2:26Isaiah 7-9 tells interconnected stories that center around the same historical context,
- 2:32focusing on the prophet Isaiah's message to King Ahaz of Judah regarding the
- 2:37Confederate forces of Syria and Israel plotting against Jerusalem,
- 2:41as noted in Isaiah 7 verses 1-2.
- 2:44The announcement of the sign of Immanuel, the birth of a child,
- 2:49serves as God's promise of protection.
- 2:51To help you with the overview, here are the key points connecting these three chapters.
- 2:56First, central character. King Ahaz of Judah is the main character addressed in all three chapters.
- 3:03Second, threat from Israel and Syria. The primary conflict involves the combined
- 3:08forces of Israel and Syria plotting against Judah.
- 3:12Third, sign of Emmanuel. The core prophecy in Isaiah 7 verse 14 announces the
- 3:18birth of a child named Emmanuel, representing God's promise,
- 3:22which serves as the central theme connecting these chapters.
- 3:25Fourth, message of trust in God. Isaiah repeatedly urges Ahaz to trust in God
- 3:31and not be afraid or threatened by the approaching armies.
- 3:34K. Arthur and Pete DeLacy mention in their book, the new inductive Bible study
- 3:39series, face-to-face with a holy God for the study of Isaiah.
- 3:43Many Christians are not familiar with the times and people of Isaiah 7-9.
- 3:48So how do we decipher its message and grasp its wisdom?
- 3:51If you understand this, you'll be instructed, find encouragement and hope,
- 3:56and persevere, as noted in Romans 15 verse 4.
- 4:00To start this week's reflection on the story of Christmas, Read,
- 4:04reflect, and meditate on Isaiah 7-9.
- 4:07The key points mentioned above are a good starting place. But we encourage you
- 4:11to take notes of your learnings from these three chapters.
- 4:14Take a moment for personal application by examining your heart in light of King
- 4:19Ahaz responses in this story.
- 4:21Together, let's embrace a new reflection as we approach this year's Christmas
- 4:26celebration, the birth of our greatest Savior, Jesus Christ.
