2:24
Speaker 6: Good morning, Good morning, Dave. Welcome to our new or
2:27
Speaker 6: new studio.
2:28
Speaker 7: It is a nice studio. I'm liking it.
2:30
Speaker 6: What do you think about this? This is actually I'm
2:33
Speaker 6: gonna mess around have a radio station here if we're
2:34
Speaker 6: not careful.
2:35
Speaker 7: You know, you have no doubt like it really good.
2:37
Speaker 6: It looks really good. This is just the timporary home
2:39
Speaker 6: though they tell us this is like the transition studio
2:42
Speaker 6: because eventually they've torn apart the old studio up I
2:45
Speaker 6: guess it would be considered upstairs. They've they've torn it apart,
2:49
Speaker 6: and when we come back sometime after the first of
2:51
Speaker 6: the year, it'll be it'll look very similar to what
2:54
Speaker 6: hoppies looks like it'll be on television. And you know,
2:56
Speaker 6: so I'm rocking a sport code this morning. Dress Now
3:00
Speaker 6: you're fine, but I'm I'm rocking the sport code this
3:02
Speaker 6: morning because I'm trying to get used to it. You know.
3:04
Speaker 6: That's that that's the whole plant of sport code by
3:07
Speaker 6: the way, from Tony the Taylor.
3:08
Speaker 4: So just go he's great.
3:10
Speaker 6: Just go ahead and throw mister Parnzino out there this morning,
3:12
Speaker 6: because he's been thrown out of a lot of places.
3:14
Speaker 6: But anyway, congratulations on your win a couple of weeks ago.
3:18
Speaker 6: Now you didn't, as you and I were joking off
3:20
Speaker 6: the area, you did not have opposition. However, people still
3:23
Speaker 6: got to vote for you.
3:24
Speaker 7: That's right.
3:25
Speaker 6: Wouldn't that be bad if nobody voted for.
3:27
Speaker 7: You and I got one hundred percent of the vote.
3:29
Speaker 6: There you go. What is it a delegate cross that
3:32
Speaker 6: you think because you did have opposition in the in
3:35
Speaker 6: the primary election? Right?
3:36
Speaker 7: I did?
3:36
Speaker 6: Okay? So what is it about your message overall that
3:41
Speaker 6: you think tends to resonate more with voters.
3:45
Speaker 7: I tend to stay out there with the voters. I
3:47
Speaker 7: answer my calls, I answer any issues that come up
3:50
Speaker 7: in the in the district, actually across the whole county,
3:53
Speaker 7: because for some reason, I think the whole of Putnam
3:56
Speaker 7: County thinks I'm their delegate too. But I I answer
4:00
Speaker 7: their questions, I answer their calls, I answer the phone,
4:03
Speaker 7: I get back with them, and they know I have
4:07
Speaker 7: kept my word on everything I promise them.
4:09
Speaker 6: I'm not going to do. And I will say this
4:11
Speaker 6: about you. And there are several other legislators, not just you,
4:13
Speaker 6: that are like this. Probably a few more should be
4:16
Speaker 6: you mentioned. Again, you know you you represent your particular district. However,
4:21
Speaker 6: when you're at the state Capitol, you are representing everyone.
4:25
Speaker 6: And and I have known you for a long time.
4:28
Speaker 6: And again there's several delegates and senators that are like
4:30
Speaker 6: this as well. If somebody reaches out to you from
4:33
Speaker 6: Mercer County, you're not always going to say we'll go
4:35
Speaker 6: talk to your own delegate. You're gonna you're gonna try
4:37
Speaker 6: to help them no matter what.
4:38
Speaker 7: Correct If it's something I know I can easily help
4:42
Speaker 7: them with, I take care of it myself. If it's
4:45
Speaker 7: something that maybe their delegate would be more involved in
4:49
Speaker 7: and already have something started, I'll make sure to transfer
4:53
Speaker 7: them over to them, make sure that they're okay, and
4:55
Speaker 7: set up check back with them, make sure everything's going well.
4:59
Speaker 7: So it just depends on the situation, but I'd definitely
5:03
Speaker 7: take calls from all across the state, emails, messages, text messages,
5:08
Speaker 7: you name it.
5:09
Speaker 6: So you had interims last week? How did that go?
5:13
Speaker 7: They went well. They were very busy, of course, gearing
5:16
Speaker 7: up for the new session for twenty twenty five and
5:22
Speaker 7: what leadership turnarounds there will be who will be in
5:25
Speaker 7: charge of committees and everything. So those hopefully get settled
5:28
Speaker 7: maybe next month or maybe even as far as January.
5:31
Speaker 6: You know, it's interesting because I don't think sometimes the
5:33
Speaker 6: general public knows what goes on behind the scenes when
5:37
Speaker 6: there is a leadership change. You know I'm talking about
5:40
Speaker 6: I'm talking about that at the top. Obviously we're going
5:42
Speaker 6: to have a new governor, but we're also going to
5:45
Speaker 6: have a new Senate president. I know that doesn't affect
5:47
Speaker 6: you you're in the House, but it sort of does
5:50
Speaker 6: because people are moving around and the politics that go
5:54
Speaker 6: into offices, things like people don't realize what a big
5:58
Speaker 6: deal that is. I was talking to one legislator who
6:01
Speaker 6: shall remain nameless over the weekend, and he said, I
6:04
Speaker 6: just don't want to lose my office.
6:06
Speaker 8: That's me.
6:06
Speaker 7: I want to keep my I like my office.
6:08
Speaker 6: I like that people like those offices. Let's talk about
6:11
Speaker 6: the new term though. What are some things that are
6:14
Speaker 6: on your agenda as we move into the twenty twenty
6:18
Speaker 6: five legislative session after the first of the year.
6:20
Speaker 7: Oh goodness, now you've asked that one too quick. Well,
6:25
Speaker 7: of course, you know. The big thing with me has
6:26
Speaker 7: always been school choice. So making sure that one stays
6:30
Speaker 7: running in line and everything stays good with that and
6:33
Speaker 7: we don't have any major changes coming up there.
6:36
Speaker 6: Why school choice, that's a big deal for you because
6:40
Speaker 6: you're somebody you have homeschooled your kids, but you also
6:42
Speaker 6: had kids that went through public schools right too, But
6:44
Speaker 6: why is is this your one of your causes so
6:47
Speaker 6: to speak? School choice?
6:49
Speaker 7: When I when my older children were in public school,
6:54
Speaker 7: I always kind of felt like I wanted to do
6:58
Speaker 7: something different but didn't know how to or what I
7:01
Speaker 7: could do different, and the laws didn't really make it easy,
7:05
Speaker 7: and there wasn't a lot out there on how to
7:07
Speaker 7: do different. And then when my two youngest ones came
7:11
Speaker 7: along and some issues popped up at school. I found
7:15
Speaker 7: out quickly how to do different and at that time,
7:18
Speaker 7: you know, the Facebook communities were really opening up and everything,
7:21
Speaker 7: and it opened up a whole new world. And then
7:25
Speaker 7: over the last several years of homeschooling more than fourteen
7:30
Speaker 7: years of homeschooling them, I've saw all the different avenues
7:35
Speaker 7: that parents can go to educate their children, and that
7:39
Speaker 7: each child learns differently, and we can't put these kids
7:44
Speaker 7: in a one size fits all, and it just we
7:49
Speaker 7: want to create a population that's productive members of society,
7:54
Speaker 7: and to do that, we have to let each child
7:56
Speaker 7: learn the way they learn best, and so school choices
8:00
Speaker 7: and a lot to me, I've seen how well it
8:01
Speaker 7: did with my two youngest ones, how much they loved it.
8:04
Speaker 7: They both have graduated from that. I now have five
8:07
Speaker 7: that are completely done, two from homeschooling and three from
8:12
Speaker 7: public schooling. And I want all parents to have that choice,
8:17
Speaker 7: whether they choose public school, private school, charter school, homeschool,
8:24
Speaker 7: micro schools, or a combination of all of that together.
8:28
Speaker 7: I want those to be available to the children so
8:32
Speaker 7: they can learn how they learn best.
8:34
Speaker 6: Talking with delicate Kathy has Kraus, this Morning, but Dave

8:54
Speaker 6: dot com. All right, so the reason I ask you
8:56
Speaker 6: heres today is you have an incredible story a purple heart.
9:02
Speaker 6: Talk about this well.
9:03
Speaker 7: I was contacted several weeks ago by James McCormick. He
9:08
Speaker 7: is the past National Commander of the Military Order of
9:12
Speaker 7: the Purple Heart. He's very active in any military organization
9:18
Speaker 7: around here. He does a lot for veterans. Great guy.
9:21
Speaker 7: He contacted me that some CSX workers were in Putnam
9:28
Speaker 7: County working on the train tracks, you know, doing some
9:31
Speaker 7: checks and fixes and everything, and they came across laying
9:38
Speaker 7: on the train tracks in hurricane a purple heart, a
9:42
Speaker 7: real purple heart.
9:44
Speaker 2: And.
9:46
Speaker 7: It was engraved with the name on the back. And
9:49
Speaker 7: through a little bit of checking and everything, it ended
9:51
Speaker 7: up that this private who's named Private Robert Lee Lawrence.
9:56
Speaker 7: He lived in Robertsburg within my district, and they asked
10:02
Speaker 7: me if I could help find a permanent home for
10:06
Speaker 7: this purple heart to put it in a place of
10:08
Speaker 7: honor when it had just been disposed of on the
10:12
Speaker 7: train tracks. They had not been able to locate any
10:15
Speaker 7: family members the young man. It appears he married around
10:20
Speaker 7: the age of sixteen and listed in the military as
10:24
Speaker 7: a marine around the age of seventeen. Was sent to
10:28
Speaker 7: Okinawa when it started on April first of nineteen forty five,
10:33
Speaker 7: and he was killed over there April twenty third of
10:36
Speaker 7: nineteen forty five. So he was later buried in Kentucky.
10:41
Speaker 7: They've tried locating family. They have no idea how this
10:45
Speaker 7: purple heart ended up on the train tracks in Hurricane
10:49
Speaker 7: in perfect condition, so they are getting it put into
10:54
Speaker 7: a nice shadow box. I've got legislative citation for not
10:59
Speaker 7: only the private first class, but for also the CSX workers,
11:04
Speaker 7: and we're going to do a presentation. And I've asked
11:06
Speaker 7: around and we're going to decide as the group, you know,
11:10
Speaker 7: where's maybe going to be the best place for this.
11:13
Speaker 7: And I have gotten permission from both Putnam County Courthouse
11:18
Speaker 7: to put it there, and also the Culture Center, so
11:22
Speaker 7: both places are more than willing to put it in
11:24
Speaker 7: a place of honor permanently so that it's on display
11:29
Speaker 7: so this doesn't happen again if we, of course, cannot
11:32
Speaker 7: find any family that it would rightfully belong to.
11:35
Speaker 6: This is I heard this story a couple of weeks ago,
11:38
Speaker 6: I guess, and I know. I think the house actually
11:41
Speaker 6: put out a press release on it. I got because
11:43
Speaker 6: I got I got the press release. That's where I
11:45
Speaker 6: first learned this story. So what what means have you
11:49
Speaker 6: and others used to try to contact this gentleman's family. Well, yeah,
11:53
Speaker 6: there is any.
11:54
Speaker 7: To what they've They've went through records and they've tried
11:58
Speaker 7: to locate family. But this is back in nineteen forty five,
12:05
Speaker 7: and he had no children. It appears he had no siblings.
12:11
Speaker 7: He was married. I don't know if they've been able
12:14
Speaker 7: to locate who is his wife at the time. We
12:18
Speaker 7: have her name, it's Dorothy Juanita Daughtery, but we have
12:24
Speaker 7: not been able to do any locations. I know they're
12:26
Speaker 7: still looking the I.
12:27
Speaker 6: Mean chances are chances are at that age, I mean
12:31
Speaker 6: just simple math today that she's probably deceased now, but
12:36
Speaker 6: I mean, perhaps she maybe remarried, and maybe there's kids.
12:41
Speaker 6: I mean, because you know it's I mean, I know
12:43
Speaker 6: you're doing your dual due diligence to try to find
12:45
Speaker 6: the family here, Delegate, but that's just a fascinating story
12:49
Speaker 6: to me. I don't know why. It just appealed to
12:51
Speaker 6: me so much.
12:51
Speaker 7: I've got Randall Reid Smith at the archives at the
12:56
Speaker 7: Culture Center. They are looking for anything through archives they
13:00
Speaker 7: can find, I know, the military of the Purple Heart.
13:03
Speaker 7: They're trying to do what they can do to see
13:06
Speaker 7: if they can find any records of anyone. But as
13:10
Speaker 7: of this time, nothing has came up yet.
13:13
Speaker 6: And it was interesting because on Friday's show, I talked
13:16
Speaker 6: about you being on this show, and I gave a
13:19
Speaker 6: little and so I got a call here at the
13:21
Speaker 6: office a little bit later on from a gentleman by
13:23
Speaker 6: the name of mister Persinger, not Fred, but a different
13:26
Speaker 6: mister Persinger, who had said that he had known someone
13:29
Speaker 6: whose Purple Heart, if I remember, the story was actually stolen.
13:33
Speaker 6: I got that message to you. You were out of state,
13:36
Speaker 6: but I was able to track you down and I
13:38
Speaker 6: got you and you and he talked. But that this
13:42
Speaker 6: is not, and you both determined this is not the
13:44
Speaker 6: one that was missing from this listener.
13:47
Speaker 7: So the purple heart that was found on the train tracks,
13:49
Speaker 7: as I said, it was engraved in the back, so
13:51
Speaker 7: we know exactly who it belonged to. And mister Persinger,
13:55
Speaker 7: I called him as soon as I excuse me, as
13:57
Speaker 7: soon as I spoke with you, I called and spoke
13:59
Speaker 7: with him, and it was what it had been. It
14:03
Speaker 7: belongs to a gentleman. So anybody has information on a
14:07
Speaker 7: purple heart out there, has it in their possession for
14:12
Speaker 7: whatever reason. However it came about. It was a Corbet
14:16
Speaker 7: Miller and he was a World War Two It was
14:18
Speaker 7: the first thing again Corbett Corbett Miller. Okay, Corbett Miller.
14:21
Speaker 7: He was a World War two VET prisoner of war
14:24
Speaker 7: in the Battle of the Bulge. His son Terry had
14:27
Speaker 7: had possession of it until it was stolen and they
14:32
Speaker 7: have not been able to locate it.
14:34
Speaker 6: Okay, Well check the pawn chops or whatever, because people
14:37
Speaker 6: don't realize what it is that they have there, you know,
14:40
Speaker 6: and even when you tell me. And I didn't serve
14:42
Speaker 6: in military, but my father did not certainly have a
14:44
Speaker 6: lot of respect for military folks. As we start to
14:46
Speaker 6: wrap this up, I did have. Yeah, I've got such
14:48
Speaker 6: a respect for military folks. And when you talk about people,
14:51
Speaker 6: you know, the first gentleman that you mentioned his he
14:54
Speaker 6: had served in Okinawa. It was killed in Okinawa. And
14:57
Speaker 6: then the second gentleman of that, mister persinger out to
15:00
Speaker 6: us about he was he's hit the Shilman had served
15:03
Speaker 6: as the Battle of the Bulge. I mean, he's just
15:05
Speaker 6: both in World War Two, some of the most iconic
15:08
Speaker 6: battles in American military history. And it just goes to
15:13
Speaker 6: show you. You know, nobody has ever given more to
15:16
Speaker 6: the United States military than what West Virginia has. We've
15:19
Speaker 6: lost more people per capita than any other state in
15:22
Speaker 6: the nation because it's it's kind of what we do.
15:24
Speaker 6: We answer the call of duty. Here, Delicates, So let
15:26
Speaker 6: me go back to school choice here, just from before
15:28
Speaker 6: we let you go. I had a text here, a
15:30
Speaker 6: delicate said, I want to send my kids to private school,
15:32
Speaker 6: but I can't afford the transportation and wouldn't be able
15:35
Speaker 6: to take time from work to drive the kids. Anyway,
15:37
Speaker 6: Can Delicate Cross explain to me why I don't have
15:39
Speaker 6: school choice.
15:42
Speaker 7: Well, I will say this coming up in the twenty
15:46
Speaker 7: six school year, everyone including those currently in private school,
15:52
Speaker 7: will become eligible for Hope Scholarship. At this point, children
15:58
Speaker 7: have to be in public school to be eleg for
16:00
Speaker 7: Hope Scholarship or be returned to public school for forty
16:03
Speaker 7: five days to receive it. But in twenty six they
16:06
Speaker 7: become eligible and that money can be used for not
16:11
Speaker 7: only private school tuition. It could be used for things
16:15
Speaker 7: like transportation, uniforms, just a variety of different things, tutoring.
16:22
Speaker 7: It can be used for homeschooling. So there is that.
16:29
Speaker 7: It's of course, not a fix for this very moment.
16:33
Speaker 7: There are I believe some counties that may allow bus
16:39
Speaker 7: transportation if it's along the route, but I don't have
16:43
Speaker 7: those counties available or anything.
16:45
Speaker 6: Because we are running over overtime. Here, give me your
16:48
Speaker 6: if you want whatever contact information you'd like to put
16:51
Speaker 6: out different people, if they have the story about the
16:53
Speaker 6: Purple Heart, if they know anything about this showman, give
16:55
Speaker 6: me his name.
16:55
Speaker 7: Again, Corbert Miller. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry, the other Purple Heart. Yes,
17:00
Speaker 7: that's private first class Robert Lee Lawrence. Okay, and he

Speaker 6: are you.
21:33
Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave. I'm doing very very well out with.
21:35
Speaker 6: Voice is a lot louder than Kathy Kraus's.
21:37
Speaker 11: I'll say that, I don't know she Hey, she does
21:39
Speaker 11: a good job for fount here. We're proud. I've listened
21:41
Speaker 11: to her interview. We're very proud of of school.
21:43
Speaker 6: To say nobody every I can say this because she's
21:45
Speaker 6: gone now. Nobody ever accuses Kathy Krauss I having a
21:47
Speaker 6: small mouth, And I say that would love you know,
21:50
Speaker 6: but but but it's soft, so I gotta bay it
21:53
Speaker 6: down a little bit. How's the podcast going.
21:54
Speaker 11: It's going really well. We've got very good listenership. Actually,
21:59
Speaker 11: just a couple of weeks ago I interviewed one of
22:02
Speaker 11: your regular guests on the show, Mayor Danny Jones. He
22:05
Speaker 11: came on and we talked for over an hour, so
22:07
Speaker 11: that was fun.
22:08
Speaker 6: He's what was the gist of the conversation there with Danny.
22:12
Speaker 11: Well, you know, Danny's a guy that has a lot
22:15
Speaker 11: of stories. What really really all all of the things
22:19
Speaker 11: that he's done and love him so interesting. So I
22:22
Speaker 11: wanted to ask him, you know, why why did you
22:24
Speaker 11: become a biscuit maker? Why were you a grave digger?
22:26
Speaker 11: Why were you you know, all these things. So he
22:28
Speaker 11: talked about his time in Vietnam and of course his
22:30
Speaker 11: Thomas mayor and things like that. So I don't know,
22:33
Speaker 11: I just I love the stories he tells, so I said, hey,
22:34
Speaker 11: we'll get you on. So he did a really good job.
22:36
Speaker 6: Danny's a guy that could probably write two, three or
22:38
Speaker 6: four books, you know, and and and none of them
22:41
Speaker 6: will be related to each other, you know, one about
22:43
Speaker 6: his career as sheriff, one about his career as a
22:45
Speaker 6: radio host, one about the longest serving mayor in Charleston history.
22:48
Speaker 6: I'm glad that I was able to help you because
22:50
Speaker 6: you reached out to me about getting Danny on there
22:52
Speaker 6: on your show. What is the name of the podcast
22:54
Speaker 6: and people wanted to look at a.
22:55
Speaker 11: Viewpoint with Tony Hodge. If your point with Tony Hodge,
22:57
Speaker 11: it's on all podcasting platforms. Just you can google it
23:00
Speaker 11: or you know, search word on your podcast platform. It's
23:02
Speaker 11: very easy to find. We'll be doing a new episode today.
23:05
Speaker 11: It'll be out tomorrow morning.
23:06
Speaker 6: All right, can you give us a little preview? What
23:07
Speaker 6: you doing today?
23:08
Speaker 11: Well, I mean you're listening to it right now.
23:12
Speaker 6: Ah, I got it, got it.
23:13
Speaker 11: We'll cover we'll cover some events of the days mostly
23:17
Speaker 11: probably on this episode, probably mostly political stuff, politics, election stuff.
23:21
Speaker 6: Because not Here's the thing about your podcast, it's not
23:23
Speaker 6: all I mean, it kind of touches on politics, Tony,
23:26
Speaker 6: but it's not all politics. I mean you're a big
23:29
Speaker 6: on family issues and societal issues and things of that
23:32
Speaker 6: nature as well.
23:32
Speaker 11: What I like to talk about mostly is you know,
23:36
Speaker 11: people will have political positions, or they'll have different opinions
23:39
Speaker 11: on different things. What I like to figure out is
23:41
Speaker 11: what's the worldview behind that? Why are you so pro business?
23:45
Speaker 11: Why are you so I don't know, pro abortion or
23:47
Speaker 11: pro life or whatever the case may be. Why are
23:49
Speaker 11: you what caused you to be so pro school choice?
23:53
Speaker 11: Like like your previous guests, I like to find out
23:55
Speaker 11: what the worldview is behind that. You know, there's always
23:58
Speaker 11: backup questions and that's what I like to get in.
24:00
Speaker 6: But ave Alan Chilling five any line Bright to part
24:02
Speaker 6: by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. All right,
24:05
Speaker 6: first time, I think, first time you've been on since
24:07
Speaker 6: the election. The understatement of the year, it's a good
24:10
Speaker 6: time to be a Republican.
24:11
Speaker 11: It really is. Yeah, I mean we won. Of course
24:13
Speaker 11: West Virginia took care of business, and we knew we would.
24:15
Speaker 11: We work really hard in West Virginia at the Republican
24:18
Speaker 11: Party to make sure our bases are covered locally all
24:21
Speaker 11: the way up through to the State House and then
24:23
Speaker 11: of course our national elections. So we took care of business.
24:26
Speaker 11: But I'll tell you, man, there's a big political realignment
24:29
Speaker 11: going on right now in the country, and it really
24:32
Speaker 11: everybody really needs to pay attention because I think it's
24:34
Speaker 11: a realignment that's not going to go away. It's here
24:36
Speaker 11: to stay. And that is the Republican Party is now
24:39
Speaker 11: the it's kind of like the hard hat party, right.
24:43
Speaker 11: The Democratic Party obviously walked away from working class people.
24:47
Speaker 11: I even hear a lot of their leadership. They'll even say,
24:49
Speaker 11: if you listen real close to them, they'll say, we
24:51
Speaker 11: need to get back to focusing on the working class.
24:54
Speaker 11: They even know that they walked away from them because
24:56
Speaker 11: what they did is they focused so much on identity
24:58
Speaker 11: politics and things like this, and when people are dealing
25:01
Speaker 11: with inflation and illegal immigration, being boxed in on identity
25:07
Speaker 11: politics and things like this, they see that when it's
25:11
Speaker 11: pinching their pocketbooks and they're having a hard time providing
25:13
Speaker 11: for their family or having a hard time even finding
25:15
Speaker 11: a job, or things are just so expensive, they're going
25:19
Speaker 11: to turn away from, you know, the left leaning position
25:22
Speaker 11: that they've had in this country now for the last
25:23
Speaker 11: four years, and then before Trump's first term, you know,
25:26
Speaker 11: we dealt with left leaning politics and kind it kind
25:31
Speaker 11: of peaked there in twenty late twenty twenty, and then
25:34
Speaker 11: in twenty twenty one, as far as like the identity
25:36
Speaker 11: politics goes, it peaked. And now that is no longer
25:41
Speaker 11: in style. It's on its way out the door really
25:43
Speaker 11: really fast. And so right now it's inflation in the
25:45
Speaker 11: economy and people, you know, look, you can say all
25:49
Speaker 11: you want about the inflation numbers, you can say that
25:51
Speaker 11: inflation's down, and technically it has inched down. But the
25:55
Speaker 11: fact is is the prices, the inflation calls to go
25:58
Speaker 11: up are still there. They never came back down, and
26:00
Speaker 11: wages didn't keep up. You know, you're going out and
26:02
Speaker 11: you're spending four dollars on a dozen of a dozen eggs?
26:04
Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
26:06
Speaker 11: And so the voters firmly rejected that all across the country.
26:10
Speaker 11: And I will say the Republican Party as far as
26:12
Speaker 11: the presidential race, we won the popular vote for the
26:15
Speaker 11: first time in twenty years. I mean, I kind of
26:18
Speaker 11: hate to say that it's been twenty years that we've
26:19
Speaker 11: won the popular vote, but let's just come on here
26:21
Speaker 11: and talk about facts. It's been twenty years. But the
26:24
Speaker 11: thing is is we did win it. We won it decisively.
26:28
Speaker 11: We're gonna win it again coming up real soon, because
26:30
Speaker 11: we think things are going to go really, really well.
26:33
Speaker 11: And so there's a big realignment going on right now
26:35
Speaker 11: in this country, and I'm really excited for it. I think,
26:38
Speaker 11: in fact, a lot of the people that I talked to,
26:39
Speaker 11: voters and things like that, they're excited. Nobody's feeling nervous,
26:42
Speaker 11: everybody's feeling very optimistic the markets. I heard earlier your
26:46
Speaker 11: show earlier talking about the markets. The markets are feeling
26:50
Speaker 11: good right now. People are a little bit more optimistic,
26:54
Speaker 11: and so you know, run our way up. We're back.
26:57
Speaker 6: One of the interesting things that I have found is,
27:00
Speaker 6: of course after this election again we're talking with Tony Hodge,
27:03
Speaker 6: is there's gonna be no matter which party has the
27:05
Speaker 6: big victory, there's gonna be a little gloating. Okay, that
27:08
Speaker 6: that that's that goes with the territory. Okay, when you
27:10
Speaker 6: win the super Bowl, you spike the ball and you
27:12
Speaker 6: pour gator in on each other.
27:13
Speaker 13: I get that.
27:14
Speaker 6: But one of the things I found interesting about this election, Tony,
27:17
Speaker 6: was even the folks that were many of the pundits,
27:21
Speaker 6: many of the more and you know, I have a
27:23
Speaker 6: tendency to kind of gravitate toward toward comedic personalities, the
27:27
Speaker 6: Bill Maher's, the John Stewarts of the world. They said
27:30
Speaker 6: a lot of what you are saying. And Bill Maher,
27:33
Speaker 6: I know you're not a fan of Bill Maher, but
27:34
Speaker 6: specifically he on his post election so said pretty much
27:39
Speaker 6: what you're saying now. And he is as left as
27:41
Speaker 6: you can possibly get. Although he's not quote unquote woke.
27:44
Speaker 6: I mean he's got booed by his own audience, you know,
27:47
Speaker 6: for some of the things he's said about the quote
27:48
Speaker 6: unquote woke movement. But but even those folks you expected
27:52
Speaker 6: to hear it from from from you, or you expect
27:54
Speaker 6: here from Matt Harriage or whatever. But even those folks
27:57
Speaker 6: are saying the Democratic Party has got to get their
28:00
Speaker 6: head on straight. I mean that's from the people on
28:02
Speaker 6: the far left, many of them that are saying that
28:04
Speaker 6: exact same thing. And the fact that the Democratic Party
28:08
Speaker 6: for many years was known as the working as what
28:10
Speaker 6: is my good friend Mike Pushkin says, interested in the
28:13
Speaker 6: people that signed the back of the check as well
28:15
Speaker 6: as the front. I love that line, by the way.
28:17
Speaker 6: But that started they started to shift a little bit,
28:20
Speaker 6: at least in the eyes of obviously a lot of Americans.
28:24
Speaker 11: Well it started to shift a little bit in twenty sixteen.
28:27
Speaker 11: It we're in twenty twenty four now, and it shifted
28:30
Speaker 11: a lot. And a good example of what you're talking about. Well,
28:32
Speaker 11: first of all, let me say you are correct. I've
28:35
Speaker 11: never watched Bill Barker's show. I've never The only thing
28:38
Speaker 11: I know about him is things that I see people
28:40
Speaker 11: post online, you know, and see quotes that he says.
28:42
Speaker 11: But I've ever watched it. But I did peruse a
28:46
Speaker 11: little bit of his book. He has a new book out,
28:48
Speaker 11: and a little bit that I read and it was
28:49
Speaker 11: actually it was actually really interesting. It was filthy, but
28:52
Speaker 11: it was interesting. But I don't anyway. But I'll tell
28:56
Speaker 11: you a good example of what you're speaking of is
28:59
Speaker 11: Joe Rogan.
29:00
Speaker 13: Man.
29:00
Speaker 11: This was a huge deal that Donald Trump went on
29:02
Speaker 11: Joe Rogan's pocket. You know, Joe Rogan, he started his
29:05
Speaker 11: career as a He is a comedian. That's what he does.
29:07
Speaker 6: Is His first big claim to fame was he hosted
29:09
Speaker 6: The Man Show. He was the second host of The
29:12
Speaker 6: Man Show, which you know, Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla
29:16
Speaker 6: were the first host, but then when they went away,
29:19
Speaker 6: Rogan and Doug Stanhope were the second host of The
29:22
Speaker 6: Man Show, which was basically, for lack of a better term,
29:24
Speaker 6: hohod years Tony. It was a T and a fast
29:27
Speaker 6: on Comedy Central, and that's where he really really made
29:31
Speaker 6: his bones.
29:31
Speaker 11: But go ahead, well that's where he got famous as
29:33
Speaker 11: a stand up comic. And then then he you know,
29:35
Speaker 11: he got it interested in UFC, but but when he
29:39
Speaker 11: went over into podcasting, it's what makes this podcast so
29:41
Speaker 11: unique is that he well, first of all, he's the
29:44
Speaker 11: most listened to podcasts in the entire world. Okay, so
29:47
Speaker 11: Donald Trump was correct for now until you overtake him.
29:50
Speaker 11: We're working on it. You know, we're allies. But you know,
29:53
Speaker 11: and another thing that played a big role in this
29:56
Speaker 11: was Baron Trump. The Wall Street Journal did a huge
29:59
Speaker 11: story on Aaron Trump's influence on his father. That's Donald
30:02
Speaker 11: Trump's son.
30:03
Speaker 6: If you don't know, by the way, he has grown
30:05
Speaker 6: like two feet since he's save feet tall. He's got
30:08
Speaker 6: saw about TV. I was like, wow, talk about a
30:11
Speaker 6: growth pert.
30:11
Speaker 11: But anyway, yeah, he's seven feet tall. When when I
30:13
Speaker 11: was with Donald Trump, Donald Trump himself is a tall man.
30:15
Speaker 11: I've got a picture of him and I stand him
30:17
Speaker 11: beside each other. He's quite a bit taller than me.
30:19
Speaker 11: If you look at Baron Trump beside Donald Trump, he's
30:21
Speaker 11: like seven feet tall. But anyway, he's a young man
30:23
Speaker 11: probably I don't know how he is, maybe twenty or
30:25
Speaker 11: something or maybe not even that old. But he influenced
30:28
Speaker 11: his father to to connect with a lot of these
30:32
Speaker 11: these guys who do these new new types of media,
30:35
Speaker 11: Joe Rogan being one of them. And Joe Rogan even
30:38
Speaker 11: has said since he had Donald Trump on how you
30:40
Speaker 11: know he was an Obama supporter, Joe Rogan was. He's
30:43
Speaker 11: been you know, kind of on the left, I think
30:46
Speaker 11: for most of his adult life. I don't want to
30:48
Speaker 11: speak for him, but people can go and find out
30:50
Speaker 11: his quotes, and he's been mostly on the left. But
30:52
Speaker 11: he has said, especially in the past, you know, four
30:54
Speaker 11: to eight years, that he's you know, he's switched and
30:57
Speaker 11: he's he's came over to the right. That's just a microcosm. Well,
31:01
Speaker 11: if you want to call it that, Joe Rogan's big,
31:02
Speaker 11: but it's just one example of how people who once
31:06
Speaker 11: were on the left are now coming to the right.
31:08
Speaker 11: And it's it's happening everywhere.
31:09
Speaker 6: And it doesn't mean that they necessarily embrace all of
31:12
Speaker 6: the right's activities, you know, but it's just the it
31:16
Speaker 6: seems to me that a lot on the left, Tony,
31:18
Speaker 6: and this is what going back to build more r
31:20
Speaker 6: people like that I said, is that many of them
31:22
Speaker 6: have just lost their lost their common sense.
31:24
Speaker 11: Well, they had a lot of things they have a
31:26
Speaker 11: lot of it. It's two main things. There's there's four
31:29
Speaker 11: main things that I think affected the selection, but two
31:31
Speaker 11: things stand out even more. It's inflation and identity politics.
31:34
Speaker 11: Those were the two that really stand out as getting
31:37
Speaker 11: the Democrats be But you're right, you don't have to
31:39
Speaker 11: agree with everything in the Republican Party, although you know
31:42
Speaker 11: we want we want people a lot of times in agreement.
31:44
Speaker 11: But even Ronald Reagan said, hey, if you're with me
31:46
Speaker 11: on eighty percent of the things, then we're together. And
31:49
Speaker 11: that's what we're seeing a lot of.
31:51
Speaker 6: Before we close, I want to talk about a couple
31:53
Speaker 6: of things. One is in West Virginia. I mean, it's
31:55
Speaker 6: a foregone conclude. We pretty much knew what was going
31:57
Speaker 6: to happen in West Virginia, and West Virginia was going
31:59
Speaker 6: to go for Trump in a huge way. On the
32:02
Speaker 6: state level, I mean, the only person that's maintaining their
32:05
Speaker 6: office as far as the Bard of Public Works is
32:07
Speaker 6: the Department of Agriculture Kent Lee and Hart, and that's
32:09
Speaker 6: because he decided to stay there. We're going to have
32:12
Speaker 6: all new Republicans Secretary of State, which, by the way,
32:14
Speaker 6: the new Secretary of State, Chris Warner, is going to
32:16
Speaker 6: be on the show on Wednesday, and the new Attorney General,
32:20
Speaker 6: J B. McCuskey, who was state auditor, is going to
32:22
Speaker 6: be on this show tomorrow. We're going to have Patrick
32:25
Speaker 6: Morrissey on in the future, former Attorney general now governor elect.
32:28
Speaker 6: Even Jim Justice is now headed to Washington. And these
32:31
Speaker 6: races that most of these folks had Tony were not
32:34
Speaker 6: even close.
32:35
Speaker 11: Well, and I'll you brought up JB. McCuskey right there.
32:38
Speaker 11: You know, he got really big numbers and he's doing it.
32:40
Speaker 11: He's going to do a great job as our attorney general.
32:42
Speaker 11: But I heard on your show just the other day,
32:44
Speaker 11: I think it was on Friday, you had a very
32:46
Speaker 11: prominent Knaw County Democrat speaking through this microphone and he
32:50
Speaker 11: said publicly out loud that he voted and supported voted
32:54
Speaker 11: for his supported JB. Mccuske. And so that's why they
32:57
Speaker 11: get such big numbers, because even Democrats vote for him.
33:00
Speaker 11: So it was Bensilango. He was the he's Knawan County Commissioner.
33:04
Speaker 11: He's the one that's helping out with the lights down
33:06
Speaker 11: there at the ball field, which are awesome. You know,
33:08
Speaker 11: all of our families love that we went last year.
33:10
Speaker 11: We haven't gone this year yet, but we want to
33:11
Speaker 11: go and all that's great. But even he said publicly
33:14
Speaker 11: on your show that he voted for JB. McCuskey. So
33:16
Speaker 11: we have a lot of crossover, you know, And that
33:18
Speaker 11: just goes to show that Republicans, if they're not leaving
33:22
Speaker 11: the Democratic Party, excuse me, Democrats, if they're not leaving
33:25
Speaker 11: the Democratic Party, they're voting for Republicans. And it's obvious,
33:28
Speaker 11: I mean, because if you look at the ballots, it's
33:31
Speaker 11: obvious Democrats are voting for us. And we appreciate that.
33:34
Speaker 11: We're glad that they're listening to our message, and we
33:36
Speaker 11: welcome their votes and we're here to help them. I
33:38
Speaker 11: know a lot of our public officials that I worked
33:41
Speaker 11: to help get elected, they'll tell you that once elected,
33:44
Speaker 11: they're elected officials for everybody, not just Republican.
33:46
Speaker 6: Right before we go, and I hate to do this,
33:48
Speaker 6: in like thirty to forty five seconds, but we're running
33:50
Speaker 6: a little bit behind Amendment one in West Virginia.
33:52
Speaker 11: Oh well, it passed, you know, and that's all that
33:54
Speaker 11: matters is it passed. There was a big media push
33:58
Speaker 11: to get it to fail. I feel like and we
34:01
Speaker 11: had some money start coming in at the very end
34:03
Speaker 11: to try to get it to fail a lot. And
34:05
Speaker 11: when I say fil I'm talking about like liberals. Liberals
34:08
Speaker 11: were pushing hard for it to fail. But we got
34:11
Speaker 11: our messaging out there from a lot of different corners
34:14
Speaker 11: of the state. We appreciate deligate, Pat McGahn. He's the
34:16
Speaker 11: one that put this thing out there. We appreciate his
34:19
Speaker 11: idea on it. And let me tell you this. I
34:20
Speaker 11: want to announce this in case listeners don't know. We
34:23
Speaker 11: are the first and only state in the entire United
34:26
Speaker 11: States of America that has a constitutional amendment against euthanasia
34:30
Speaker 11: and assistant suicide. We are leading, We're leading the way,
34:34
Speaker 11: and we're very proud of our work and we're glad
34:36
Speaker 11: we got that done. We got it over the finish
34:37
Speaker 11: line and it is in the constitution.
34:40
Speaker 6: Tex says, I forgot about this. Dave Joe Rogan's first
34:43
Speaker 6: claim to fame was on news radio in the nineteen nineties.
34:46
Speaker 6: Literally Show about what you Do for a living and
34:48
Speaker 6: easily the funniest show up from the nineties. Go bench it.
34:52
Speaker 6: I watched the try that I watched news radio when
34:54
Speaker 6: it was on. Dave Foley was on that show, Andy
34:56
Speaker 6: Dick and several other people. Joe Rogan was a big
34:58
Speaker 6: part of that show. I completely from about that. I
35:01
Speaker 6: watched the show. I should I should have known that,
35:03
Speaker 6: but uh, and it's always on. I just noticed one
35:05
Speaker 6: of the I call them the rerun channels, you know
35:08
Speaker 6: as aeron at constantly. Tony. I appreciate you being here, man,
35:12

35:12
Speaker 11: Yeah, glad to be here.

Speaker 6: I think that may be tongue in chee. All right, Uh,
38:45
Speaker 6: Bringing folks from the Downtown Charleston Association, our good friend
38:48
Speaker 6: Morgan Morrison is here. Kevin Madison, Hey, folks, how you
38:51
Speaker 6: doing good? Did I say something funny?
38:55
Speaker 2: You just like.
39:00
Speaker 3: I love your smooth transition from politics to Christmas.
39:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, something hopefully we can all agree on. Well, before
39:07
Speaker 6: you know it, Downtown Charleston is going to come alive.
39:09
Speaker 6: We've already seeing that over at the ballpark with the
39:11
Speaker 6: sangle little light, the night that started last week. And
39:14
Speaker 6: now we're gonna do We're gonna holly jolly, Bradley, I'm
39:16
Speaker 6: gonna use that as a verb. Is that okay?
39:18
Speaker 3: Absolutely all right?
39:19
Speaker 6: So what's going on? When and where?
39:21
Speaker 3: So holly jolly probably kicks off on Friday, November twenty
39:24
Speaker 3: ninth at twelve o'clock. It's Friday and Saturday from twelve
39:29
Speaker 3: pm to eight pm. There's a lot going on this year,
39:33
Speaker 3: dave a lot, and we've atted a lot this year,
39:35
Speaker 3: and I can let Kevin talk a little bit about.
39:37
Speaker 6: It before we get to the talk about how the
39:39
Speaker 6: whole thing began. I mean the whole holiday. I mean
39:41
Speaker 6: you guys have been on it from.
39:44
Speaker 5: This year five.
39:44
Speaker 10: This year, this is year four down for Downtown Charleston Association.
39:49
Speaker 10: Prior to that was the year of COVID and the city,
39:52
Speaker 10: which doesn't count.
39:53
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I mean it adds to the magic
39:57
Speaker 3: of the story.
39:58
Speaker 11: Yeah, without that happening wouldn't be happening.
40:01
Speaker 6: Gold, gold, Frankenstons and COVID. Yeah, that's the wise Man
40:05
Speaker 6: had it or something.
40:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, you know it was a
40:07
Speaker 3: It was a it was an idea kind of formed
40:09
Speaker 3: by a small group of people with twenty trees the
40:13
Speaker 3: first year. And I'll remember texting Kevin like Kevin, uh,
40:16
Speaker 3: you're gonna have to decorate a tree and he's like what.
40:19
Speaker 2: Uh.
40:20
Speaker 3: And you know, the vision from the beginning was to
40:22
Speaker 3: grow it and turn it into something like this. So
40:24
Speaker 3: to kind of see its growth every year is it's
40:26
Speaker 3: truly magical.
40:27
Speaker 6: And I mean again, this thing started very very small,
40:30
Speaker 6: like most good ideas do, and you just kept building
40:32
Speaker 6: it and building it and building it, and uh to
40:34
Speaker 6: last year it was fantastic. And this year your promising
40:36
Speaker 6: is going to be even bigger and better because light
40:39
Speaker 6: the Night is like double the lights that they had
40:41
Speaker 6: last year. So we kind of got a I feel like.
40:44
Speaker 3: We've we've doubled our numbers in every sense of the word.
40:48
Speaker 3: This year.
40:48
Speaker 6: Take take that Andy share what they're saying. What they're
40:52
Speaker 6: saying is is they got one more light than they
40:54
Speaker 6: We got one more decoration than what they do over there.
40:57
Speaker 6: I'm gonna start a fight, That's what I want to
40:58
Speaker 6: We We love life, and I know everybody kind of
41:03
Speaker 6: works together to make Charleston kind of like the almost
41:06
Speaker 6: like the Christmas town, so to speak.
41:08
Speaker 3: That's the goal.
41:08
Speaker 10: That's the goal.
41:09
Speaker 6: That's the goal.
41:10
Speaker 10: And you know, like Morgan said, the event does start,
41:12
Speaker 10: does kick off on Friday the twenty ninth, and it's
41:14
Speaker 10: a two day celebration. But this event the displays up
41:18
Speaker 10: until January first, So you know, bring your family, bring
41:22
Speaker 10: your friends down. But the display, you need to reiterate,
41:25
Speaker 10: it doesn't go. It doesn't come down after two days.
41:27
Speaker 10: It's a whole month celebration.
41:29
Speaker 6: So what do people see there that maybe haven't taken
41:32
Speaker 6: it into the past.
41:33
Speaker 10: Got one hundred and sixty Christmas trees one hundred and
41:37
Speaker 10: sixty two Christmas trees decorated from City Center at Seleck
41:40
Speaker 10: Plaza down Brawley Walkway me entering down through Lee Triangle.
41:46
Speaker 10: If the light show kicks off on the Friday the
41:49
Speaker 10: twenty ninth, the light show great like amazing sponsors this year,
41:54
Speaker 10: WV Medicine Thomas Hospitals has really stepped up and they're
41:58
Speaker 10: providing a drone show for us on on Friday the
42:02
Speaker 10: twenty new.
42:03
Speaker 3: This is new, yes, always, we felt like the city
42:06
Speaker 3: tree lighting, you know, had hot a lot of hype
42:09
Speaker 3: around it, and there were hundreds of people gathered and
42:11
Speaker 3: we were trying to figure out a way to really
42:13
Speaker 3: amp up the city tree lighting. So we're kicking it
42:16
Speaker 3: off this year with a fifteen minute drone show.
42:18
Speaker 10: It was an amazing story told by Bill Up. Okay,
42:22
Speaker 10: so he's written a story about you know, twas the
42:25
Speaker 10: night you know in Charleston before Holly Jolly Brawley and
42:29
Speaker 10: some really cool shout out so you know about West
42:31
Speaker 10: Virginian things of that nature. But the drone show'll end
42:34
Speaker 10: with the countdown and then the tree will light, and
42:37
Speaker 10: then it rolls.
42:38
Speaker 3: Into the first synchronized lights, right show.
42:41
Speaker 10: The light show's playing four times an hour.
42:43
Speaker 3: Now, yeah, it's no two times an hour. I think
42:46
Speaker 3: it's thirty minutes long exactly. So it'll play every night
42:51
Speaker 3: until basically December thirty first starting it, I believe six
42:55
Speaker 3: point thirty, but don't quote.
42:56
Speaker 6: Me on that, and of course, you got Small Business
42:58
Speaker 6: Saturday going on that and I know you're both small
43:01
Speaker 6: business folks, so you'll be very involved in that, and
43:03
Speaker 6: just a way to bring people downtown to patronize a
43:09
Speaker 6: lot of these different businesses that are downtown and prove
43:13
Speaker 6: that that downtown is doing really, really well. So our
43:15
Speaker 6: small businesses go.
43:17
Speaker 10: Art Walk this year is going to be on Black
43:19
Speaker 10: Friday and Small Business Saturday, so you've got you know,
43:21
Speaker 10: twelve to eight both days this year for Artwalk to
43:24
Speaker 10: come down, buy some Christmas presents, you know, support your
43:29
Speaker 10: local businesses.
43:30
Speaker 3: And that's you know, that's kind of like our wholem
43:33
Speaker 3: as an organization is to support downtown, support small businesses, retail, restaurants, bars,
43:38
Speaker 3: all of it. We're both very buried into the downtown life.
43:43
Speaker 3: We work, we live, we eat, We very probably will
43:45
Speaker 3: be buried, yeah literally, And I think just supporting small
43:49
Speaker 3: businesses are so important. So with you know, Black Friday,
43:53
Speaker 3: Small Business Saturday, it is just our way of not
43:56
Speaker 3: only gathering the community, but packing the stores, packing the restaurants,
44:01
Speaker 3: you know, encouraging people to actually hit these retail shops
44:03
Speaker 3: instead of ordering online. It could because literally putting food
44:08
Speaker 3: on people's tables. Indeed, it all displays a part.
44:11
Speaker 6: I'm going to ask you to hang out with me
44:12
Speaker 6: just one second because we need to take a break.
44:13
Speaker 6: I got a couple of questions more I want to

Speaker 3: standard blow ups where there is such a Christmas demand
49:38
Speaker 3: in town. Now they have literally custom ordered so many
49:41
