- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Hey guys, Troll Slayer here.
- 0:02SPEAKER_03: So, as you may have heard, Bradley is out of town this week on vacation.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: Must be nice.
- 0:09SPEAKER_03: Anyway,
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: since he's not here to record a podcast episode,
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: we're going to use the space for a little podcasting of our own.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: Honey, whose house is this?
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: Are we breaking and entering?
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: No, Mom!
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: I told Bradley we'd be here, so technically it's just entering.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, now I guess it is breaking and entering.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Trollslayer,
- 0:32rule 104 of the Smart Shopper Handbook in conjunction with
- 0:36Clenchport Fire Code
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: states that a room of this size may only hold up to five people.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Why are you quoting the Smart Shopper Handbook, Jeb?
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: We're not even in Clenchport.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's my son.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Always thinking about safety, just like his dad.
- 0:54Ironic that the doomsday prepper who sells fire arms and
- 0:57explosives out of his
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: truck is the one lecturing us about safety.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Master, why does it smell like feet in here?
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you when you're older, Toby.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: Hey, Troll Slayer, can we get this show on the road?
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Fine.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Anyway,
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: these other people are from Clenchport 2,
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: and we're taking over the Saved as Draft podcast.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: So get comfortable, because it's about to get weird.
- 1:35Hello,
- 1:35everyone,
- 1:35and welcome to episode 31.5 of the Save to Straft podcast.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: This is Pass Bradley speaking.
- 1:42I'm recording this before I go on a real,
- 1:44genuine vacation for the first time in years.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: Since I'll be out of town this week,
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: I decided to do a mini episode of the podcast here,
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: so this will be more compact than what you're used to,
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: but it should be pretty fun all the same.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: So,
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: as many of you know,
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: I'm working on an animated series alongside my friend of over 20 years,
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: James Nethery,
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: who is a professional animator himself.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: We've also got a team of over 15 people working with us,
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: including artists,
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: animators,
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: and voice actors.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Our upcoming series is a combination of horror and comedy,
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: and it's called The Chronicles of Clenchport.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: It's set in a fictional town located in southwest Virginia,
- 2:15and it follows the exploits of several characters from various
- 2:19walks of life,
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: several of whom you met in this week's intro.
- 2:22Clinchport is also going to be a transmedia universe,
- 2:25so it will exist across different mediums.
- 2:27You may have noticed that I have a section of my short stories
- 2:29in my content
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: directory related to the series.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: These stories are indeed set in the same universe as the upcoming show,
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: which is in turn set within my larger horror mythos,
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: The Synaptic Sprawl.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: But more on that soon.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Beyond the animated series and the short stories I've done,
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Clenchport will be getting its own podcast soon as well.
- 2:45The Many Worlds of Clenchport will be a narrative show with an
- 2:48ongoing story that
- 2:49discusses the history of the town and taps into found audio
- 2:52from parallel versions
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: of it as well.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: My recent post,
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: titled Tape 47,
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: acts as a teaser for the upcoming podcast,
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: so if you have yet to check it out,
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: please do and let me know what you think.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Okay,
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: and with all that context out of the way,
- 3:04today's special mini-episode of the Saved as Draft podcast will
- 3:07include a few funny
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: segues pulled from the upcoming narrative podcast,
- 3:11as well as a panel discussion between myself and James Nethery
- 3:14as we talk about the
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: history of the series,
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: where things are at now,
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: and what's on the horizon.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: If you're a fan of my work,
- 3:20or if you've enjoyed some of the Clinchport stories that I've
- 3:22shared thus far,
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: this is one episode that you won't want to miss.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Stay tuned for the panel discussion next,
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: right after this message from a local Clinchport favorite,
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: the Burger Lord.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Warriors,
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: sons and daughters of the kingdom,
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: as your queen,
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: I will not stand by while you ride into battle alone.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Together, we shall... We shall ride into battle and... Oh dear!
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: Don't ride into battle hungry.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Take your fellow warriors to lunch at the Burger Lord.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Come try the new Excaliburger.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Find out if you're worthy enough to pull the sword from the bun.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: All right, and we are back.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: And thank you to the Burger Lord for sponsoring this episode.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: They are a very popular restaurant in Clenchport.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Next up,
- 4:11we have a panel discussion with myself and co-creator of the
- 4:14Chronicles of
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: Clenchport series,
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: James Nethery.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: All right, everybody.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: And for this week's episode,
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: a mini episode of the Saved as Draft podcast,
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: as I mentioned in the introduction,
- 4:24we're going to have a panel discussion here between myself and
- 4:27the co-creator of
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: the Chronicles of Clenchport and
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: which is our upcoming animated horror comedy series.
- 4:32And so I have with me today my friend of over 20 years and
- 4:35professional animator
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: who has been on the show before but is now returning,
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: James Nethery.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: James, thank you for being here.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: Hello.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: Good to be here.
- 4:45so let's start off with our discussion here i wanted to talk a
- 4:47little bit about how
- 4:48you know have us kind of introduce ourselves and then talk
- 4:51about how we met so
- 4:51obviously everybody knows me but for the sake of people who may
- 4:54not have heard your
- 4:55episode of the podcast way back when that you were on uh let's
- 4:58have you tell us
- 4:58just a little bit about yourself yeah of course uh my name is
- 5:01james uh nethery i'm
- 5:03a uh animator i live in atlanta georgia right now i'm actually
- 5:07from orlando which
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: is where i met bradley
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: I kind of started my animation career down there.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: I started kind of as a hobby doing stuff with Bradley,
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: actually doing cartoons way back in the day.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Started when we were probably like 15 or 16 doing stuff, high school.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Then, yeah, I think shortly, like 2015, I moved up to Atlanta.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: I'd been doing some freelance in Orlando.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Moved up to Atlanta to work on Archer and a bunch of other shows.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: And I've been there ever since.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: And I'm really excited to get Clunchport off the ground.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: As James mentioned, he and I met back when we were 15, I think, or so.
- 5:46And I've told this story before,
- 5:48but we were both volunteers at the Orlando Science Center.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Orlando Science Center.
- 5:53yeah yep and um yeah as soon as i found out you were an
- 5:57animator and as soon as you
- 5:58found out i was a writer we basically immediately jumped into
- 6:03projects together if
- 6:04i recall correctly uh yeah absolutely we we got a couple we we
- 6:08did like a really a
- 6:09couple like really early ones right i didn't know what the hell
- 6:12i was doing like on
- 6:12the animation side yeah but we we recorded like on this old
- 6:16like tape recorder
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: first yep
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: And then we recorded on a, like a, like a video camera.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Like I,
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: I,
- 6:24I definitely remember us doing a recording session and I just
- 6:29open up the footage
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: and it's just like our mouths and noses.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: It's like filming up our noses.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:37and we're doing this at the science center too so it's like
- 6:40under this we went like
- 6:41under the stair under the stairway i think over in like the
- 6:44clubhouse right and
- 6:46every time someone would come down the stairs we would just
- 6:48like oh we better hide
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: this will take a while to explain yeah
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: So, yeah.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: So speaking of those early years,
- 6:59I wanted to talk a little bit about how our projects and our
- 7:01work have evolved over
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: the years.
- 7:03Obviously,
- 7:03a lot of it is not publicly on YouTube right now,
- 7:07just because it's old.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: And,
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 7:08we want to obviously have the most up-to-date representation of
- 7:11your skills,
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: my skills,
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: so on and so forth.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: But we have done a lot of projects over the years.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: And so I wanted to talk about,
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: for example,
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: back in the day,
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: we had this character who started out as Claymation.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: And he was, his name was Lucky Bob.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: He was your creation.
- 7:27right exactly and so i remember one of our first big projects
- 7:31was lucky bob's time
- 7:32machine which was a movie machine yeah a movie that i wrote and
- 7:36if i'm not mistaken
- 7:37it was about 30 minutes of animation when it was all something
- 7:39like that the second
- 7:41one was longer actually i think the first one was 20 the second
- 7:44one was 30 okay
- 7:45that's crazy to think about but i mean back then we had nothing
- 7:48but free time yeah
- 7:50basically yeah i kind of like skimped on a lot of my school
- 7:53work to get a lot of
- 7:54that done but yeah were you the only person animating it i
- 7:58think you were yeah i i
- 7:59think you actually animated a couple shots that's true i did
- 8:02yes yeah yeah yeah
- 8:05like just very basic stuff but yeah we were we were using moho
- 8:09at the time which is
- 8:10actually still around and still being used that's so it was
- 8:14pretty intuitive
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: software from what i remember
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: It's very, it's gotten even better too over the years.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: I'm actually really interested to play around with it some more.
- 8:22And so another early project that we did was our attempt at
- 8:25doing something quote
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: unquote serious.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: And that was Death From Above, which I'm sure you remember.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Death From Above.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: It's like, you're not my son.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: So the concept with that one,
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: and I'm reaching back here into my memories,
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: but the concept of that one was,
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: it was inspired by the movie Reign of Fire,
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: specifically the opening scene,
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: where construction workers end up discovering a dragon nest,
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: I think,
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: underground or something.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: And so at the beginning of Death From Above,
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: construction workers uncover this nest of eggs,
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: and it's these weird,
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: I mean,
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: I have to be honest,
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: from what I recall,
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: the creature design was pretty cool.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: It was almost like a xenomorph.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: And yeah, so anyway, they end up unleashing these creatures.
- 9:07And so the twist was that they're weak to electricity,
- 9:10I think is what it was.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: And yeah,
- 9:13there's a scene that's supposed to be super serious and like
- 9:16heart wrenching where
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: because like,
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: if I recall correctly,
- 9:19the creatures could give off spores that would infect you and
- 9:23turn you into one of
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: them.
- 9:24yeah um and and so there's a scene where the main character
- 9:28jack his son uh gets
- 9:30infected and and so he has to kill his own son and he says the
- 9:35classic line you're
- 9:36not my son or whatever but i mean i you know it was it was
- 9:40cheesy it was very
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: cheesy but it was a good movie
- 9:43i i remember him throwing a hair dryer in that wasn't plugged
- 9:46in to the bath yeah
- 9:48the idea was that he was he had the monster trapped in a
- 9:51bathtub and he was trying
- 9:53to electrocute it and so he was threw a hair dryer in there but
- 9:55yeah it wasn't even
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: plugged in so yeah plot hole
- 10:00from a from a movie that came out you know and that like 10
- 10:03people saw um so yeah
- 10:06so we we have some classic projects um but i love talking about
- 10:10them because they
- 10:10were so ambitious for the time um yeah and so fast forward a
- 10:14little bit here in
- 10:162012 we uh we we we created a character called troll slayers
- 10:21let me let me let me
- 10:22pause for a second there and i want i want to get your input on
- 10:24this what is your
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: memory of what inspired troll slayer how did that character come about
- 10:30I remember watching a video online of just this kid raging in
- 10:36his driveway with
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: like a video camera.
- 10:38He's like just screaming into the video camera and like ranting
- 10:42about all kinds of
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: stuff like movies and like life in general.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: I was like, huh, that's actually really kind of funny.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: It would be really funny to do like kind of a parody of that.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: So that was kind of my pitch to Bradley as like,
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I just came over one day and said,
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Hey,
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: we want to do this troll slayer thing.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Why don't you just improv a bunch of shit?
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: I,
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: I,
- 11:04I remember you pitching me that and we called him troll slayer
- 11:07if I'm not mistaken,
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: because the initial concept was that he was,
- 11:10he was supposed to be someone who takes out or slays trolls on
- 11:14the internet.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: But he, but, but the ironic nature of it is that he himself is a troll.
- 11:20yeah exactly right so yeah and so that's how that character
- 11:23started and i remember
- 11:25when we first started doing that we would record i would record
- 11:29um the the audio
- 11:31for it and it would just be improv like we would pick a topic
- 11:33yeah and i would just
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: start like ranting about it as his character
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really funny.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I still have a lot of that old audio.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: It's hilarious.
- 11:42Yeah,
- 11:43one of these days,
- 11:43maybe we should just pull the audio,
- 11:45if anything.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: We should.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: And feature on the podcast.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Hey,
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: if anyone listening,
- 11:49if you want to hear those classic Troll Slayer rants that I did
- 11:52when I was much
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: younger,
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: let me know in the comments.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: If I get enough demand for it, I will feature on the show.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: So, all right, James.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, that's how Troll Slayer got started.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: That was back in 2012, which, yeah, that makes me feel old.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 12:07And so Troll Slayer obviously is a big character in the
- 12:09Clenchport series,
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: but another big character in the Clenchport series is Dr.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: Henry Armitage.
- 12:14Dr.
- 12:14Armitage is actually a character,
- 12:16or the name is at least,
- 12:18a character from Lovecraft.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: And so because Lovecraft is public domain,
- 12:22we're kind of paying homage to him since the horror aspects of
- 12:25the animated series
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: are indeed Lovecraftian or cosmic horror.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: So,
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: James,
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: why don't you tell the story here,
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: or at least your version of it,
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: the story about how we first came up with this evil doctor character,
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: which was a really funny kind of coincidence sort of moment,
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: if you recall.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Didn't you see, like, a store or something like that, like a shop?
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, I can't even remember the full story.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Something doctor, but you thought it said evil doctor?
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: Right, yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: So it was in, like, a strip mall type area.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: It said the sign across the parking lot said eye doctor,
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: but the lighting in the sign was like partially out.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: So from far away,
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: this is before I got my glasses,
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: obviously,
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: but from far away,
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: I thought it said evil doctor and we had a whole laugh about it.
- 13:12I was like,
- 13:13wouldn't that be hilarious if it was like an evil doctor that
- 13:16owned like a shop?
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: And so that's how we came up with Doctor.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: That character would eventually become Doctor Armitage in the series.
- 13:24And part of his character is obviously the fact that he he has
- 13:27a secret store where
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: he caters to,
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: quote unquote,
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: the scum of the multiverse or the villains of the multiverse,
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: where he sells all kinds of esoteric artifacts and dangerous,
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: cursed objects and all that kind of good stuff.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: And so in the Clenchport series,
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: his store is called Dr.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Armitage's Emporium of Esoteric Oddities.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: And so his store exists underground,
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: hiding beneath a standard convenience store,
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: which looks normal above ground.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: And that, of course, is the smart shopper in Clenchport.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: So that's one of my characters.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: So why don't we switch over, James?
- 14:03I'd love to have you talk about one of the characters that you
- 14:05voice in the
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Chronicles of Lunchport series.
- 14:08So a big one that you do is actually a character who works at
- 14:11the Smart Shopper.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: And his name is Jeb or Jebediah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: And his last name is Ashland.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: So James, tell us about Jeb.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Okay,
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: so Jeb originated as a character in our series called Average Joe,
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: where Joe goes to work at,
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: like,
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: it's the same kind of sonic concept.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: He goes to work at, like, kind of a gas station type of thing.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: And originally, Jeb was called Snitchy.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: He was called Snitchy McSuckup.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: And he was based on this manager that I had at one of my jobs.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: And he was talking like this nasally voice like this.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: And he was very into rules.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: And I just thought, that guy is a freaking cartoon character.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: So I kind of designed him a little bit based on that guy.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: And his voice is definitely based on him.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: And yeah, so it's like you kind of pull from real life.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And there was another character I think that you voiced.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: So I kind of want to bring back the, the kind of the twitchy manager guy.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, you know, he goes like, Hey.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: I remember him.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:22you're not smiling that kind of thing yeah he was he was like a
- 15:28more extreme
- 15:29version of jeb's character in chronicles yeah maybe i will
- 15:32bring him back at some
- 15:32point yeah but yeah it was all based on on people i used to
- 15:37work at a theme park
- 15:38and of course the rule was you always smile and you they had
- 15:42like this rule book
- 15:43like 50 pages long which is where like the clench port the rule
- 15:46book comes from
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: And you would have employees who have been there for 30 years,
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: but are in the same position that they've always been in,
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: making the same wage.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: But it's like, this is their career.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: They're stuck there.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: They want to move up, but they never can because of all the backstabbing.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: Right, of course.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you, James.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, of course.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 16:10so Troll Slayer and Jeb are both main characters in the
- 16:12Chronicles of Clenchport
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: series,
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: of course.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: And then we have a few others that you've heard.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: You've probably heard about them in some of my short stories.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: And then,
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: of course,
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: the opening skit at the beginning of this podcast episode,
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: we had a few of them as well.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: But I don't want to spoil all of them just yet.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: So we'll stop there and move on to our next topic here.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: The next thing I wanted to talk about is how Clenchport is...
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: We have plans to make it a transmedia universe,
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: meaning that it will have...
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: It will exist as both an animated series as well as a narrative podcast.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: And then also it already exists in a variety of my short stories.
- 16:46And so all of these stories and Clenchport itself exists within
- 16:50a even wider
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: universe that I've been building on Substack.
- 16:54And obviously the origins of this universe go all the way back
- 16:57to,
- 16:57I think,
- 16:582012.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: And these days I refer to it as the Synaptic Sprawl.
- 17:02The Synaptic Sprawl is obviously a horror multiverse,
- 17:06is how I describe it.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: And
- 17:08It is basically a ton of parallel universes that exist within
- 17:11the mind of an
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: eldritch terror called the dreamer.
- 17:15And so a lot of my horror stories take place in these various
- 17:17parallel universes.
- 17:18And so the way that the synaptic sprawl works as a multiverse
- 17:22is that you can only
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: enter or exit it from what are called nexus points.
- 17:26And nexus points are places where every single variation of a
- 17:30universe exists on
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: top or below each other.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: So it's basically very concentrated, right?
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: It's like an entry point, like I said, or an exit point.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: And so a lot of energy flows through there.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: And so I say all that because Clenchport itself,
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: as part of this broader universe,
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: the town of Clenchport is indeed a nexus.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: And so as a result of that,
- 17:49it's a very strange place where different parallel universes
- 17:52kind of bleed in and
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: out of each other.
- 17:53And a lot of weird things happen because you have so much
- 17:56energy and beings as well
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: entering and exiting this brawl.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: So,
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: James,
- 18:01what I wanted to talk about is the beginning of this entire
- 18:05concept of mine,
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: well before we created Clenchport,
- 18:09it went back to a horror story that I wrote years and years and
- 18:11years ago called
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: Insanity's Embrace.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 18:15And if I'm not mistaken,
- 18:16you were there when I read it live in front of a small group of
- 18:20people.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: Weren't you there that night?
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was a freaking hit, man.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: It was great.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I remember you getting applause after you reading that.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: No, it was great.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Is that still available like anywhere online?
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so yeah, I can talk about that for a second.
- 18:37So I worked with a small publisher a while back and there's a
- 18:40few e-books of mine
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: that I wrote on Amazon.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: And unfortunately,
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: because of the relationship that I have with the publisher,
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: they were a little rushed and the cover art wasn't exactly what I wanted.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: So I don't actively promote them,
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: but I did sell them the rights to that Insanity's Embrace story.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: So that's the only way to access it if you wanted to purchase it.
- 19:00I've since written similar stories and honestly better stories
- 19:06on Substack here,
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: which also exists within that universe.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: So that's a great question.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 19:10so I'm really excited about the fact that Clinchport exists
- 19:12within this horror
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: mythos because there's a lot of exciting stuff we can do with it.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: And
- 19:17A part of that is that my horror mythos is in the actual kind
- 19:22of universe.
- 19:23There exists a wall around the edge of the multiverse beyond
- 19:27which lies what's
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: called the abyssal prison.
- 19:30The guardians of that prison are known as wardens and they are
- 19:34reincarnated people
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: from across history.
- 19:36who have been brought back to life and made immortal so that
- 19:39they can stand guard
- 19:40and essentially defend all of the multiverse from these
- 19:44eldritch monstrosities that
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: exist beyond that wall.
- 19:46And so the reason I bring that up is because the Wardens are
- 19:49big reoccurring
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: characters in a lot of my horror stories.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: And one of them, as you know, James, is Agent Michael Durwood.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Agent Durwood.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 19:58And so Derwood is going to be a big character in Chronicles of
- 20:01Clinchport as well.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: I think he's going to show up at the very end of the pilot.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: I think that's correct.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: And Michael Derwood in the Clinchport podcast is voiced by,
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: I forget his last name,
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: but I know his first name is Jared.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Jared.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: He's amazing.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: So Jared's the voice of Michael Derwood.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: He does a phenomenal job.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: You guys are going to love him.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: He does Michael Derwood.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: He does another character.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: That's very, very funny.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:25yeah okay so yeah so now that we've kind of covered sort of the
- 20:28broader mythos the
- 20:28next thing i wanted to talk about is how how we arrived at
- 20:31clench port so i if i
- 20:34recall correctly and i'd love to hear your thoughts on this
- 20:36james but um if i
- 20:37recall correctly you and i years and years ago we decided that
- 20:41we wanted to do a
- 20:42series where all of our characters that we had developed up
- 20:46until that point so it
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: was our evil doctor character it was troll slayer yeah
- 20:49obviously troll slayer's mom because he lives with her we
- 20:52wanted them all to exist
- 20:53in the same town is am i right in remembering is that how i
- 20:57think you're you're
- 20:57correct i think i think joe was in there as well yeah we went
- 21:00you after show but
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: i'd still love to bring back at some point
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: We should actually bring him back at some point.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: So that was kind of how Clenchport came about.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: But I remember you basically said to me,
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: okay,
- 21:12I want to start working on a real series and I want to really
- 21:14get it off the
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: ground.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: And you were like, you basically said, okay, pitch me some ideas.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: And so...
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: I pitched you two ideas,
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: the first of which was the Chronicles of Clenchport,
- 21:24and the other one was a Norse mythology concept called Return
- 21:29to Ragnarok.
- 21:37the characters were pulled into the world of the game and it
- 21:41was a very cool
- 21:42concept but we ended up going with Clenchport and so Return to
- 21:45Ragnarok never
- 21:46actually went anywhere it just remained kind of a pitch on my
- 21:50Google Drive I think
- 21:52the reason that I went with Clenchport at the time it wasn't
- 21:54called Clenchport it
- 21:55was called I think Doctor Something's Emporium or something or
- 22:01other right yeah but
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: yeah
- 22:05um i think we went with that because it was slightly less
- 22:08ambitious um at the time
- 22:09uh for what we could do it's like now it's like whatever i can
- 22:13do anything we want
- 22:15to do um but yeah i think at the time we just had i just had
- 22:18like kind of limited
- 22:19resources but now we actually have like a full team working on
- 22:21this stuff yeah well
- 22:23what i was going to say is the reason i brought it up is
- 22:25because um james as you
- 22:26know i've recently started working with a company called audio
- 22:29mazes that does
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: immersive audio dramas hell yeah um
- 22:33So what I did was I ended up pitching them Return to Ragnarok
- 22:38as soon as I started
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: working with them.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: And so I'm really excited to announce,
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: and I'm hoping to announce this also on Substack,
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: but my second Audio Maze's book just released,
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: and it is in fact Return to Ragnarok.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 22:50oh damn the concept the concept is very similar to what you and
- 22:54i discussed forever
- 22:55ago i was really excited to use the idea you know elsewhere so
- 22:59return to ragnarok i
- 22:59ended up using that idea for for audio mazes and so now you can
- 23:03actually if you're
- 23:04an audio mazes subscriber you can listen to the full book and
- 23:06uh the concept is
- 23:08very similar it's about a fictional tabletop rpg called return
- 23:11to ragnarok
- 23:11that is based on norse mythology and in the book you're able to
- 23:15choose because it
- 23:16has branching paths you're able to choose which character you
- 23:20want to quote unquote
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: play as you can follow any of their stories and so there is a barbarian a
- 23:25necromancer and a ranger for you to choose from um that's sick
- 23:29yeah and so and then
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: the book has multiple endings and a lot of crazy twists
- 23:33So Return to Ragnarok thankfully ended up becoming a real idea
- 23:38elsewhere.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: And obviously you and I decided to pursue Clenchport.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: So obviously I'll have plenty more ideas down the road,
- 23:44but right now we are all in on Clenchport and that's where I'm
- 23:46happy to be.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:49I'm,
- 23:50I'm,
- 23:50I'm really interested to see like,
- 23:51like how far we can get Clenchport.
- 23:53Cause I know there's,
- 23:54there's a ton of indie animation out there these days.
- 23:57There's all sorts of pilots getting produced and it's a really
- 24:00cool time for
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: independent animation.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:03So when the kind of the rest of like the industry is kind of
- 24:07falling apart,
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: all the indie people are kind of taking over.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: So it's an exciting time.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it feels right.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: It feels like really good as far as timing goes.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: And so next I wanted to talk about where we are right now,
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: like the current status of the Clenchport series,
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: because as I've told everybody,
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: it's upcoming.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: We're working on it.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Our team that we have right now, James, it's about 15 people.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: Am I right about that?
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Something like that.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: And so these are all people that are extremely talented.
- 24:35They're currently volunteering their time until we're able to
- 24:38secure funding.
- 24:39SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: And so, yeah.
- 24:41So right now,
- 24:42from a writing perspective,
- 24:43what I can say is that we've written the pilot script.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we've we've approved that and made edits to it.
- 24:48We also have a number of short film style type things that we
- 24:52were going to do to
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: kind of build out interest in the series.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: And these include some character focused shorts,
- 24:58as well as a series of sort of interrogations where the
- 25:01character Michael Durwood
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: is grilling,
- 25:04grilling different characters about events that will happen in
- 25:06the series.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: But really cool.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: James,
- 25:09let me let me pause for a second to have you talk about where
- 25:12we are in terms of
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: art and animation and that kind of stuff.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Art and animation.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: OK, so we have most of the main characters kind of designed.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: We are storyboarding some of the shorts right now.
- 25:24And I think I'm actually going to pivot soon to have people
- 25:26start like actually
- 25:28storyboarding the pilot because we really need to get that done
- 25:32or storyboard it so
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: we can actually start animating it and getting backgrounds made.
- 25:36And speaking of backgrounds,
- 25:37we have backgrounds being made for the short and for the
- 25:41shorts.
- 25:42And I'm doing all the character animation and the character,
- 25:48the rigging,
- 25:49the setup.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: of each of the characters.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm working in a program called Toon Boom Harmony,
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: which is a digital animation software,
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: vector-based.
- 25:58So basically I'm taking all of the character designs that are
- 26:03my friend Adam,
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: he did all the characters,
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: most of the main characters.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: I think we had my friend Eric also do some great character designs.
- 26:12So I'm taking their character designs and kind of making them
- 26:14into like these
- 26:15digital puppets that you can kind of move around and make them
- 26:18look really cool.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, that's kind of where we're at.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: That's great, James.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: I love how you described the animation process,
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: too,
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: because I know it's extremely complicated,
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: but you described it in a very understandable way.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: So I appreciate that.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 26:32I'm actually thinking of starting a Substack for
- 26:34animation-related things.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: I might write more about that.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: That would be amazing.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: Well, you heard it here first, folks.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: James Nethery may be coming to Substack.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: And don't worry, I will be letting you know when that happens.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 26:50While I'm here,
- 26:52I got to plug my...
- 26:53I'm starting a craft beer channel as well.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: I'm a big craft beer guy.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: So that's going to have some cool animation stuff in it as well.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: So definitely keep an eye out for me.
- 27:01craft beer and animation a match made oh yeah absolutely i'm
- 27:07actually i'm not
- 27:07drinking i'm not drinking a beer right now but there is a drink
- 27:10of some sort in my
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: hand
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that's where we're at right now with Clinchport.
- 27:15And so one of the things I wanted to talk about real quick is
- 27:18our podcast that
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: we're going to be launching soon.
- 27:20As I mentioned earlier,
- 27:21it's going to be called The Many Worlds of Clinchport.
- 27:23And the idea of the podcast is that it's going to be an ongoing
- 27:26narrative podcast
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: where it stars two radio hosts who are longtime residents of Clinchport.
- 27:32And they are basically investigating some strange events
- 27:35throughout the town's history and
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: And as part of the podcast,
- 27:40they have discovered an archive of found audio from alternate
- 27:44realities and
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: versions of Clenchport.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: And so as the series goes on,
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: we'll learn about not only the history of the Clenchport in our universe,
- 27:52but the history of Clenchport and other parallel versions of it
- 27:55within that local
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: nexus that I mentioned earlier as part of the Synaptic Sprawl.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: So that'll be really exciting.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Um, the podcast is in production.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping to launch it soon.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: Um,
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's safe to say that as far as casting goes,
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: obviously I will be playing one of the hosts,
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Ron Cutler is my character's name.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: And then,
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: uh,
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: we have explored a couple options for the,
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: the co-host,
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: but I think,
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: I think,
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: I think at this point,
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: just because of availability,
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: we're going to have you James co-host,
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: um,
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: as Dave Netherson is the name of that character.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: Hey, that's my name.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: And the co-hosts are very much supposed to be a nod to James and myself.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: And Dave is my dad's name, too.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Yep, exactly.
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: I did that on purpose, I think.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so the podcast will be really interesting.
- 28:50The way that it's going to work is that every episode will
- 28:51actually be two parts.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: So in each episode,
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: you're going to have an episode,
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: like for example,
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: episode one,
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: side A,
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: and episode one,
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: side B.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: And these will be two separate releases.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: And the reason for that is because inside A,
- 29:06you're going to hear about a story from Clinchport's history
- 29:09that exists within our
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: universe.
- 29:11So it's based on the town's history in this universe that we
- 29:15are in ourselves.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:16and and the universe that our characters are in in the series
- 29:20uh now in episode b
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: they're going to use the found audio they have to listen to several other
- 29:25variations of clenchport in different parallel universes and
- 29:29they're going to see
- 29:29how that same story played out in parallel realities and so
- 29:33it's going to be really
- 29:34really cool i think it's a very unique structure i'm really
- 29:37excited about it any
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: thoughts on the podcast james just in general
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's going to be really cool.
- 29:42It kind of kind of like a like a companion piece of the series,
- 29:45which I think is amazing.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: And yeah, like you said, it's all part of the expanded.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: What did you call it?
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Like the expanded the transmedia universe, transmedia universe.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: It's going to be all part of that.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: It'd be great to do a bunch of kind of stuff like that, you know.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: I've been really inspired by the concept of a transmedia universe,
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: so I want to build that out.
- 30:09And the idea of the transmedia universe is that you can
- 30:12experience just one of the
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: things and still get a complete story.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: So if you just watched Clenchport,
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: the series,
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: and all of its shorts,
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: you would still get a full...
- 30:24and complete story uh but if you decided to expand your
- 30:28perspective to the short
- 30:29stories or to the podcast you would get additional lore and
- 30:33story and so that's
- 30:34what makes it really cool to me it's kind of like the old uh
- 30:37like before disney
- 30:38kind of took over like the old uh star wars expanded universe
- 30:42right the thing where
- 30:43they'd have like all these books and comics and all this kind
- 30:46of cool stuff
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: alongside like the main movies
- 30:49And people could kind of get all this lore and stuff like that
- 30:54outside of the main series.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I think it's a really, really freaking cool idea.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: That's exactly right.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: I think that's a great comparison, James.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: So to wrap up our discussion here,
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: I wanted to talk about what's next for the Chronicles of Clenchport.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: So obviously,
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping within the next,
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: let's say,
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: realistically,
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: probably the next month or two,
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: I want to launch the podcast,
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: The Many Worlds of Clenchport.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: And then...
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: I don't think we really have a timeline yet for the series,
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: unfortunately,
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: but we don't,
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: I wanted to talk a little bit about kind of what our next steps are.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: So obviously you were talking about storyboarding and,
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: kind of art and backgrounds and stuff.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: You and I have also talked a bit about seeking investors or crowdfunding.
- 31:36So I think,
- 31:36I think that's still the plan at some point in the near future.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah,
- 31:40kind of what I want to do is get the storyboards for the pilot
- 31:44done and maybe a
- 31:46little bit of animation done as well with some full backgrounds
- 31:49and either get a
- 31:50Kickstarter going or try and find an investor of some sort to
- 31:55get the series off
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: the ground so we can make more episodes.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: Because we can make the first episode on our own, no problem.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: It's just subsequent episodes are going to be tricky to fund.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: No, absolutely.
- 32:10And I think that's a really good example of why the
- 32:12crowdfunding slash investors are needed.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:15And then another thing that I wanted to highlight is that we
- 32:19are bringing in help
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: from Sarah,
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: Sarah Rush,
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: my girlfriend.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: And she has experience with web design.
- 32:31And so we are going to have her help us build a website for
- 32:35Clinchport here in the near future.
- 32:37And we're going to structure the website as if it were a
- 32:41fictional town of
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: clenchport.com kind of thing,
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: right?
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's going to be amazing.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: And so I'm really excited to tap into her talents there.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Obviously,
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: to anybody listening to this,
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: you probably know her better,
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Sarah,
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: better as the prompt goddess.
- 32:56Because she came up with all those amazing prompts back in
- 32:59Flash Fiction February,
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: as well as my madness and mayhem challenge.
- 33:04So,
- 33:05but yes,
- 33:06she is leveraging her talents to help us with Clenchport as
- 33:08well.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: And we're really excited to have her on the team.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: Sarah is very talented, very talented voice actress as well.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: I loved her voice work.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: That's very true.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: I appreciate you bringing that up because as part of this episode,
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: there's a couple of different segues in here.
- 33:23And those segues are actually fictional ads that will be
- 33:26featured in the Clenchport podcast.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: I wanted to preview them here.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: And you'll actually hear Sarah's voice in both of them.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: So if you enjoy that, definitely leave a comment and tag her.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: Her tag is Tira B. So it's at T-I-R-A-B-E-E.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: And let her know what you think because I know she would love that.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: But yeah, she does great work with her voice acting as well.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: That's a very good point.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was really fantastic work.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: You showed me those today and I was really impressed with that.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 33:56Well,
- 33:56James,
- 33:57I am so grateful to have you back on the show for a second
- 33:59time.
- 34:00And this was a wonderful discussion about Clunchport and the
- 34:03stuff that we're working on.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: So thank you again for being here.
- 34:07And I'm sure I'll have you back again someday soon when we're
- 34:10close to launching the series.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: I'm sure I'll have you back, but thanks for being here, James.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's my pleasure, man.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 34:18And thank you to James once again for joining me for that
- 34:20awesome discussion to
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: talk about this amazing series and universe that we're building.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: Before we wrap up,
- 34:25I've got one more message here from a product that you'll only
- 34:27find on the shelves
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: of the smart shopper and maybe the dark web in Clenchport.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Ah, what's the matter?
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Don't like what you see in the mirror?
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: Much like my life, my physique also peaked in high school.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: No matter what I do, I can't seem to lose weight.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: That's because the fitness industry has been lying to you.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Weight loss doesn't come from exercise and a healthy diet.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: It comes from drastic and non-FDA approved supplements.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 34:55You mean all I have to do is take a sketchy pill three times a
- 34:57day and I'll finally
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: lose this weight?
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Of course, it's that simple.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Introducing Drop Dead Gorgeous,
- 35:04the only weight loss supplement guaranteed to produce rapid and
- 35:08terrifying weight
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: loss in a matter of weeks.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: Sounds too good to be true.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: What's the catch?
- 35:14Well,
- 35:15they say that beauty is pain,
- 35:17and in this case,
- 35:17it's downright lethal.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Wait, you mean it's gonna kill me?
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: You betcha.
- 35:23Just about every ingredient in Drop Dead Gorgeous's proprietary
- 35:26blend is classified
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: as a poisonous substance.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: I don't know if that trade-off is worth it.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Would 300,000 sales and 45 pending lawsuits lie?
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: Well, when you put it that way, I guess not.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: That's it then.
- 35:40I'm going to go head to the store and pick up a bottle of Drop
- 35:43Dead Gorgeous.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: Oops, you won't find it at any retailers.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Drop Dead Gorgeous is available exclusively on the dark web.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, good.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: How convenient.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: Thanks, disembodied voice.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: You betcha!
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Drop dead gorgeous.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: It'll kill you, but at least you'll look great at your funeral.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Alright,
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: and as I said earlier in the episode,
- 36:06these ads that you've heard today on this special episode of
- 36:09the Saved as Draft
- 36:09podcast are some examples of the in-universe ads that you'll be
- 36:13hearing on the Many
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Worlds of Clenchport podcast.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: So while you may hear those again when that show launches,
- 36:19I couldn't resist the urge to give you guys a little preview
- 36:21and show you what
- 36:23we're working with there as far as the style of comedy and
- 36:25humor goes in those ads
- 36:26that'll sort of break up the stories told in the Many Worlds of
- 36:29Clenchport podcast.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 36:31And before we wrap up,
- 36:32I just want to mention the plan for next week once I'm back
- 36:35from my trip.
- 36:36I've scheduled a few things to come out while I'm on vacation
- 36:38so the algorithm
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: doesn't throw me into the void.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: But once I'm back,
- 36:41we'll have a brand new full episode of the Saved as Draft
- 36:44podcast on Friday,
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: August 29th.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: And as a quick reminder,
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: power up prompt number 10,
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: which is focused on dialogue and world building,
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: will be open until Thursday,
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: August 28th.
- 36:54So check it out and let me know if you publish something so I
- 36:56can mention it on the
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: next full episode of this podcast.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: And before I wrap up here,
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: I just want to give a special shout out to everyone listening to this,
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: and to everyone who's shown support for the Clenchport series thus far.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: James and I,
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: and the team as well,
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: are very passionate about what we're building here,
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: and your support really does mean the world to us.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: So stay tuned for more news soon.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: In the meantime,
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: I'm going to get back to packing for my trip,
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: but I'm wishing you all a productive week of writing while I'm out.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: And thanks again for checking out this week's special episode.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: This is Bradley Ramsey, signing off.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Hunter, where did this PS5 Pro and Switch 2 come from?
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: They're mine, Mom!
- 37:45I bought them,
- 37:46uh...
- 37:47Are you sure you didn't take them from Bradley's house?
- 37:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, come on, Mom!
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: He does my voice!
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: We're basically the same person!
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: And let's be honest, what is ownership in the digital age, anyway?
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Do we really own anything anymore?
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Don't you get all philosophical on me, boy!
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: You return that man's expensive gaming consoles this instant!
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Ugh, fine.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: But let me finish Elden Ring first.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: I must become the Elden Lord.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: Maybe then I won't be Maidenless anymore.
- 38:16Yeah,
- 38:17maybe the Elden Lord will actually help out on the bills around
- 38:19here.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Get out of my room, Mom!
