- 0:09Speaker 2: The world's a big Podcas, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. My
- 0:19Speaker 2: information has arrived.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Lads, our lads, Our lads.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Our lads report today of a certain quarterback on campus.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll leave us and we'll leave.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Let's say the name correctly.
- 0:33Speaker 3: And I'm getting Sophie now, like, oh Mac, did.
- 0:36Speaker 2: You say this? They got Will Levi's coming in.
- 0:38Speaker 3: This will outstand.
- 0:39Speaker 4: But I'm not a big hooker guy.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Caleb is gonna tell us why Evan is wrong about
- 0:44Speaker 2: hooker tennis huckers.
- 0:45Speaker 5: You can kick an Aussie style, you can kick it American.
- 0:48Speaker 5: That's kind of fun.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Like, what do you want today? Might I'll go whatever
- 0:50Speaker 3: you know? Oh yeah, something happened earlier on the show
- 0:54Speaker 3: that got him triggered, because it seems he.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Thinks he knows everything.
- 0:59Speaker 5: Pam is honestly, hands down one of the worst like
- 1:03Speaker 5: TV characters. And you were engaged and then you clearly
- 1:06Speaker 5: were cheating, breaks that relationship up when he was actually happy,
- 1:10Speaker 5: and then you know, you threw him away to go
- 1:12Speaker 5: to art school.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Him is bitch.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Bitch.
- 1:16Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Fueled by Duncan.
- 1:22Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:26Speaker 2: at ji Lette Stadium. But more importantly, it's Draft week
- 1:30Speaker 2: finally that's coming in two days on Thursdays. So we're excited.
- 1:35Speaker 2: We just had another one of our draft meetings. Make
- 1:39Speaker 2: sure everybody's ready, rolls and responsibilities. More importantly, food gets ordered,
- 1:44Speaker 2: so we're ready to go. It's Deuce, it's Evan.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Paul's back, glad to be back.
- 1:50Speaker 2: From his vaca, a little bit back from his vac
- 1:52Speaker 2: used the sunscreen, very smart, and we got Deuce. We
- 1:58Speaker 2: got we got Matt and the boobezeus No, Alex and
- 2:01Speaker 2: Tamarow they're upstairs.
- 2:02Speaker 3: They're busy.
- 2:03Speaker 2: They're busy.
- 2:04Speaker 3: You couldn't get them down here.
- 2:05Speaker 7: I think they knew that this was like the last
- 2:07Speaker 7: draft show and we'll probably gonna be this is Evan's
- 2:10Speaker 7: time to shine. Where we put all the hay in
- 2:12Speaker 7: the barn and sum it all up, and I think
- 2:14Speaker 7: we're all just well.
- 2:15Speaker 2: We will be talking to draft obviously, but you know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: there is some other news out there that we have
- 2:20Speaker 2: to address. Aaron Rodgers, it's official they've come to terms
- 2:25Speaker 2: the Packers with the Jets, and he is going to
- 2:28Speaker 2: be in the AFC East. How do we feel about that? Not?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Great?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Great?
- 2:35Speaker 4: I wouldn't Mike no.
- 2:36Speaker 7: I mean it's I mean I would say, like, hey,
- 2:38Speaker 7: it'd be kind of fun to see Aaron Rogers twice
- 2:40Speaker 7: a year.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I mean that's you.
- 2:41Speaker 7: Know, jumping out of my Patriots work slash fandom for
- 2:44Speaker 7: a second, Like all right, that's nice.
- 2:47Speaker 3: But and and I'll say one other nice thing. It's
- 2:49Speaker 3: nice that the Jets aren't picking right before them just
- 2:51Speaker 3: for superficial purposes. Like I like that that was the.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Jets were picking thirteen. Now they've moved to fifteen, and
- 2:57Speaker 2: now Green Bay is picking at thirteen.
- 3:00Speaker 7: Might change nothing, but you know still but yeah, it's uh,
- 3:04Speaker 7: not what the Patriots need. I mean, it's just another
- 3:05Speaker 7: example that their backs are up against the wall this year.
- 3:08Speaker 7: I think it just puts more of a spotlight on
- 3:10Speaker 7: this draft and you know, finding some I think, as
- 3:12Speaker 7: Evan said, we recorded our final draft podcast this morning,
- 3:15Speaker 7: and I like Devan's point of just saying like I
- 3:17Speaker 7: don't know how you put it.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Exactly, but like you need like a splash, like.
- 3:20Speaker 7: You need something like Jets fans today feeling pretty good
- 3:23Speaker 7: like they got Aaron Rodgers, like Patriots fans could use
- 3:26Speaker 7: something like that. I know that that football doesn't want
- 3:28Speaker 7: to hear that, and they're all about, we're gonna be
- 3:29Speaker 7: methodical and we're gonna pick our guys and we're gonna
- 3:31Speaker 7: do what we do. But I do think that that's
- 3:33Speaker 7: an underrated aspect that you need an injection.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I can guarantee you, you know, his first year, he's gonna
- 3:37Speaker 2: be ready to go. You know, he's gonna be, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: to prove to the New York fans. I'm all in
- 3:42Speaker 2: and all that, and he will have a good year
- 3:44Speaker 2: this year. You know, barring injury, he'll play well.
- 3:46Speaker 4: You're pretty confident of that.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I say he has a good first four to
- 3:51Speaker 5: six weeks, okay, But if I like that, if the
- 3:54Speaker 5: if it going gets tough at that point, then I'm
- 3:57Speaker 5: not sure if he's gonna be if we might see
- 4:00Speaker 5: that Aaron Rodgers from last year who's not not really
- 4:03Speaker 5: all in. But I think in general it's if the
- 4:08Speaker 5: two games of the Patriots played against the package the Jets
- 4:10Speaker 5: last year go exactly the same, but now the quarterback
- 4:13Speaker 5: for the Jets Aaron Rodgers. I think they lose both games.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I agree, I agree. My worst nightmare is, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 2: they've got you know, Aaron Rodgers, and then they with
- 4:23Speaker 2: the fifteenth pick, they take Zave Flowers, you know, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: so now we're double moaning why didn't we Why don't
- 4:29Speaker 2: we get Flowers?
- 4:31Speaker 4: I understand the point. It's not necessarily about the specific right.
- 4:35Speaker 4: The Jets don't need Zave Flowers. That's the scary part. Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and you know, and to your point, Mike, you said,
- 4:40Speaker 4: like Jets fans are probably waking up today. Evan got
- 4:43Speaker 4: some hope. Yeah, you're probably pretty excited. Well then look
- 4:46Speaker 4: back to last year's draft too. And you know, during
- 4:49Speaker 4: our podcast, Evan was talking about like, well the Patriots,
- 4:52Speaker 4: you know what, Mike said, they need the splash and
- 4:55Speaker 4: they have enough. I think the way you put it,
- 4:57Speaker 4: they have they have plenty of good players. They need
- 4:59Speaker 4: some great ones. They need home run hitters. And I
- 5:02Speaker 4: know it's just one year, rookie year. Who knows, Maybe
- 5:04Speaker 4: these guys were just good initially and we'll see what
- 5:07Speaker 4: they are. But Garrett Wilson in Sauce Gardner are two
- 5:10Speaker 4: guys that you know can we just get one? I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 4: so now you couple that draft, and that's not the
- 5:16Speaker 4: only guys they got in the draft either. They got
- 5:18Speaker 4: brief they you know, they got the kid from Florida
- 5:21Speaker 4: State who I can never remember, thank you. And they
- 5:26Speaker 4: were pretty good too. I mean, but Gardner and Wilson
- 5:28Speaker 4: were outstanding, and bring in a quarterback if they can,
- 5:32Speaker 4: you know, sort of put it together. And you're right,
- 5:36Speaker 4: and Rogers is engaged. I don't know if Rogers has
- 5:38Speaker 4: got that Tom Brady thing where he's gonna go on
- 5:41Speaker 4: the FU Tour.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I think he kind of did that a little bit
- 5:46Speaker 4: in Green Bay two years ago, where he's sort of
- 5:49Speaker 4: annoyed at everybody and had another MVP season. But this
- 5:52Speaker 4: isn't about can the Jets win the Super Bowl because
- 5:55Speaker 4: the Patriots don't necessarily care, But are the Jets that
- 5:59Speaker 4: much better than the Patriot? It's now that's what they
- 6:01Speaker 4: care about.
- 6:01Speaker 7: And that's what we talked about last year after those
- 6:03Speaker 7: games were that, you know, the Jets, if they ever
- 6:05Speaker 7: got a quarterback, they have the pieces.
- 6:07Speaker 3: All the things that we're talking about.
- 6:09Speaker 7: I know, tackle outstanding, but that wide receiver, that cornerback,
- 6:13Speaker 7: all those pieces they Quentin Williams. I mean, they have
- 6:15Speaker 7: them in place right now. I just I hope that
- 6:19Speaker 7: it goes the way I haven't said though. I feel
- 6:20Speaker 7: like they'll be like an initial surge and hey, oh
- 6:23Speaker 7: this is great, and oh he's really got a chemistry Wilson,
- 6:25Speaker 7: and then you know, things start to get tough, and
- 6:27Speaker 7: you know, we'll see I mean, this is just the
- 6:29Speaker 7: Patriots hat speaking hopefully. I mean, because you felt similar
- 6:32Speaker 7: when Brett Favre went in, you know, in twenty two
- 6:35Speaker 7: thousand and eight.
- 6:35Speaker 3: It was a similar kind of thing. I know, different situation,
- 6:37Speaker 3: but hey, they got a guy.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Now, I listen, I'm worried. I'm worried.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I am. I mean, I think you can pretend to
- 6:45Speaker 4: yourself that, well, it's not a big deal. Did the
- 6:47Speaker 4: Jets they'll screw it up. Okay, if you want to
- 6:49Speaker 4: rely on that, that's fine, but I do I am
- 6:52Speaker 4: concerned about it. And one of the other things that
- 6:55Speaker 4: we talked about during the podcast bred is how Belichick
- 6:58Speaker 4: might react to it. You know, he's so good. Well,
- 7:03Speaker 4: well that was that was really good. That was dead
- 7:06Speaker 4: on perfect. But another point that everyone was talking about
- 7:09Speaker 4: was do you think that Belichick response that by saying, well,
- 7:13Speaker 4: we got to find a way to to keep up
- 7:15Speaker 4: on the scoreboard, or do you think he looks at
- 7:17Speaker 4: it and says, we're gonna find a way to shut
- 7:19Speaker 4: him down, right, you know, and add to the defense. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 4: what do you think that Bill would would go?
- 7:25Speaker 2: I think he'd lean defense.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yeah, me too to.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Him that's an easier answer.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Well, I just don't think that he can bring himself
- 7:33Speaker 4: to say, well, if you want to succeed, you got
- 7:35Speaker 4: to try to win thirty one twenty. He's like, you
- 7:38Speaker 4: got to hold him to twenty two and find a
- 7:41Speaker 4: way to win.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I I understand that point.
- 7:43Speaker 7: I also just I look at six when that felt
- 7:46Speaker 7: like all right, he realized he had to go get
- 7:49Speaker 7: some offensive pieces, like they just didn't have him anymore.
- 7:51Speaker 3: So last year was just as bad, worse than six was.
- 7:55Speaker 7: So that's my only hope that he kind of recognizes
- 7:58Speaker 7: that and says, look, certainly, we need good defense to
- 8:00Speaker 7: keep up with these guys, but at the end of
- 8:02Speaker 7: the day, our offense was just below the bar of acceptability,
- 8:05Speaker 7: and we have to make some bold moves that we
- 8:07Speaker 7: haven't really made.
- 8:08Speaker 2: In free agency, we talk about you know, and I
- 8:10Speaker 2: agree Evan, if Rogers had been in those two games
- 8:14Speaker 2: last year, they would have won. What if Bill O'Brien
- 8:17Speaker 2: was the offensive coordinator last year, how much better would
- 8:20Speaker 2: that offense have been?
- 8:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's a fair point. I just think
- 8:23Speaker 5: for the Patriots. To me, I'm not necessarily sitting here,
- 8:28Speaker 5: you know, shaking to my boots that Aaron Rodgers is
- 8:30Speaker 5: now at the Jets. But I just think it adds
- 8:31Speaker 5: a team in the AFC that now has a better
- 8:35Speaker 5: quarterback than you. And I just look at the AFC
- 8:38Speaker 5: and we're talking about at least seven teams that I
- 8:42Speaker 5: can come up with that I think are locks to
- 8:44Speaker 5: be better quarterback than you. And then if Russell Wilson
- 8:47Speaker 5: has a bounced back year or Deshaun Watson has a
- 8:49Speaker 5: bounced back year, now we're talking about nine, potentially ten
- 8:52Speaker 5: teams that have better quarterbacks and better offenses. And I
- 8:55Speaker 5: think if you're the Patriots and going into this draft
- 8:59Speaker 5: at this point, I don't really think there's any one
- 9:01Speaker 5: player in this draft at fourteen that's gonna change this
- 9:06Speaker 5: season for them. I don't think that you can look
- 9:08Speaker 5: at it that way. I think you have to look
- 9:09Speaker 5: at it and say, who is the best player that
- 9:12Speaker 5: we can possibly get with this pick. Now, I would
- 9:15Speaker 5: then put the caveat on it at a premium position.
- 9:19Speaker 5: If they take a running back like Bijon Robinson, I'm
- 9:22Speaker 5: gonna have a problem with it. But if they take
- 9:23Speaker 5: an edge rusher, if they take a corner, if they
- 9:26Speaker 5: take a tackle, if they take a receiver, I just
- 9:28Speaker 5: think they need to get the best player in the
- 9:30Speaker 5: building and just continue to stack the roster together because
- 9:34Speaker 5: at this point you are looking up at a lot
- 9:37Speaker 5: of teams and to sit there and say we are
- 9:40Speaker 5: an ex player away or why player away from being
- 9:43Speaker 5: a contender, I don't see that path being as easy,
- 9:46Speaker 5: especially when you look at just their opponents for next year.
- 9:50Speaker 5: The quarterbacks that they're gonna have to play next year
- 9:53Speaker 5: are ridiculous. I mean, they're gonna have to play pretty
- 9:55Speaker 5: much the gauntlet of quarterbacks in the AFC, and I
- 10:00Speaker 5: don't know, it just doesn't really look like a team
- 10:02Speaker 5: that is one big splash, like a Jerry Judy trade,
- 10:07Speaker 5: even away from all of a sudden. Now, okay, now
- 10:10Speaker 5: we feel like they're a playoff team and we were.
- 10:12Speaker 5: They're in it, you.
- 10:13Speaker 7: Know, there's just no secret to the formula. I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 7: the Jets have had a few good drafts. Now they've
- 10:17Speaker 7: put the position like you're talking about players and the
- 10:20Speaker 7: key positions in place that are making impacts.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And we all saw it.
- 10:24Speaker 2: We all see they screwed up with the quarterback pick,
- 10:26Speaker 2: and they said, effet, let's let's go for it.
- 10:28Speaker 7: But it's like, how many of these contender teams, like
- 10:31Speaker 7: you know, have gotten a chunk, not all, but the
- 10:33Speaker 7: wide receiver, the quarterback, the cornerback, the a tackle and
- 10:38Speaker 7: a pass rusher. You know they've gotten those positions, then
- 10:40Speaker 7: they oh, we need just one, let's go get Stefan Diggs,
- 10:43Speaker 7: or we just need the court, let's go get Aaron Rodgers.
- 10:45Speaker 7: You know, you can get to that point where all right,
- 10:47Speaker 7: that's the way to play free agency, to play trades,
- 10:49Speaker 7: But it all starts with stacking drafts.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You know, that's what it is.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Stacking drafts allow you to be selective in free agency,
- 10:56Speaker 2: to have the the bullet instead of the shotgun.
- 11:00Speaker 7: I mean, I think, to Evan's point, you're not gonna
- 11:02Speaker 7: come out of Day two of this draft and be like,
- 11:04Speaker 7: this is great, we got our starting offensive left tackle.
- 11:06Speaker 7: We got a stud corner and we've got a receiver
- 11:09Speaker 7: that's going to control the middle of the field. Like,
- 11:11Speaker 7: it's just unrealistic to think that that's going to happen,
- 11:13Speaker 7: even that they're going to draft those specific needs that.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Everyone's so focused on. It could very well.
- 11:18Speaker 7: Be they strike with an edge, they grab a tight
- 11:21Speaker 7: end higher than and people you know who prefer a
- 11:23Speaker 7: wide receiver. But you know, can an argument be made
- 11:26Speaker 7: that one of these tight ends is going to make
- 11:28Speaker 7: more of an impact on offense sooner and to a
- 11:31Speaker 7: greater degree than some of these receivers. I think that's
- 11:33Speaker 7: that's a debate you could probably have to as.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Much as you want a receiver and want to want
- 11:38Speaker 5: that offensive playmaker, I just think that at this point,
- 11:41Speaker 5: if you're sitting there, let's just say they stay at fourteen,
- 11:43Speaker 5: just to make it easy. If you're sitting there and
- 11:45Speaker 5: you're contemplating a guy like Christian Gonzalez versus a guy
- 11:49Speaker 5: like you gotta take Christian Gonzalez now, Like, I just
- 11:52Speaker 5: think that taking to say Flowers is trying to put
- 11:55Speaker 5: a band aid on a much bigger problem. And I
- 11:58Speaker 5: don't know if this is how the best way out
- 12:00Speaker 5: of that this situation at this point, I think right
- 12:03Speaker 5: now you got to really just try to stack as
- 12:06Speaker 5: much talent as you can on the top of the
- 12:08Speaker 5: roster and play the long game because I don't think
- 12:10Speaker 5: you're competing in twenty twenty three.
- 12:12Speaker 7: And that's what's hard with like the potential tackle pick,
- 12:14Speaker 7: which we talked about earlier on the on the Draft
- 12:16Speaker 7: podcast that we did, which we all acknowledge, like, no,
- 12:19Speaker 7: it's probably not what they need, but it is what
- 12:21Speaker 7: they need. It's not what we kind of want. But
- 12:24Speaker 7: to your point, there's nobody who's really going to make
- 12:26Speaker 7: that immediate impact, so why not take a guy? And
- 12:28Speaker 7: I mean, and this is a conversation we've been having
- 12:30Speaker 7: with Broderick Jones, who you know hasn't played a lot,
- 12:32Speaker 7: Paris Johnson hasn't played a lot, But like you look
- 12:34Speaker 7: at them and you say, that's a ten year tackle.
- 12:37Speaker 7: There's no real caveats other than he needs experience and
- 12:40Speaker 7: to get into an NFL system. So you know, that's
- 12:42Speaker 7: think the conversations will be having if they take one
- 12:44Speaker 7: of those tackles and say, look, I know it's not sexy,
- 12:46Speaker 7: but Patriots are ways off and they got to start
- 12:48Speaker 7: stacking really good players and this is a good player.
- 12:50Speaker 8: Right.
- 12:50Speaker 4: So the whole thing about the Jets too, to me
- 12:54Speaker 4: is I agree that it's not like, oh, there's your
- 12:58Speaker 4: Super Bowl team, like a shaking in our boots. But
- 13:01Speaker 4: you you brought up the Bill O'Brien thing, Fred, And again,
- 13:05Speaker 4: I think there's an enormous amount of pressure on Bill
- 13:07Speaker 4: O'Brien because I think a lot of people think, like
- 13:09Speaker 4: you do, that the coordinator is worth wins. I'll believe
- 13:12Speaker 4: that when I see it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: But it was definitely worth loss according to a lot
- 13:16Speaker 2: of people.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and I didn't know that either. Just in fairness,
- 13:20Speaker 4: I just don't think they played very well. I think
- 13:22Speaker 4: play offense was not not optimals.
- 13:24Speaker 2: So they should have kept that.
- 13:25Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no, I don't think that. I think
- 13:27Speaker 4: it can be worth losses but worth wins. Yeah, And
- 13:30Speaker 4: it's kind of like the old adage, right, It's like
- 13:33Speaker 4: the old adage. You can you can lose a game
- 13:35Speaker 4: in the first quarter, but you can't win it, you know.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I mean, obviously you go out and win quit twenty
- 13:41Speaker 4: one of the Boy in the first quarter. Yeah, you
- 13:42Speaker 4: can win it in the first quarter. But people don't
- 13:45Speaker 4: really look at it that way. But with the Jets,
- 13:47Speaker 4: it's it's been two games that you can rely on
- 13:49Speaker 4: that you're gonna win for how long? How many in
- 13:52Speaker 4: a row? Twelve years, sixteen? Over time? Over how many
- 13:56Speaker 4: wins in a row over the Jets? Of that, I
- 13:58Speaker 4: think it's like sixteen. Okay, So that's been something that
- 14:01Speaker 4: you've absolutely counted on. You can't count on a suitep
- 14:06Speaker 4: of the Jets. I think right now, if you're being
- 14:09Speaker 4: a really realistic Patriots fan, you'd take a split.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Right, that's a big difference. That's a big difference. You've
- 14:18Speaker 4: had a hard time with Buffalo, you know.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I mean, that's put it nicely.
- 14:23Speaker 4: And Miami you split with kind of an asterisk because
- 14:27Speaker 4: you beat the third string quarterback and that's really the
- 14:30Speaker 4: only time you've been and you finished behind them. So
- 14:33Speaker 4: just you know, Mahomes, Alan Burrow, Rogers, Jackson, Herbert, Lawrence Watson, Wilson, Tua,
- 14:42Speaker 4: and Garoppolo.
- 14:42Speaker 2: You have to hit them all.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Four of those quarterbacks won't make the playoffs, right, Four
- 14:50Speaker 4: of those guys won't make at least at least four
- 14:52Speaker 4: of those guys won't make the playoffs. So that's what
- 14:56Speaker 4: you're dealing with and if everybody is right and you
- 14:58Speaker 4: need to have a you know, strong play at the
- 15:00Speaker 4: quarterback position, there's a lot of pressure on Mac Jones
- 15:04Speaker 4: and Bill O'Brien to get this right so they can
- 15:07Speaker 4: keep up with some of these teams.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Yep, well maybe this would be a good spot to dovetail.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I don't want to ruin your.
- 15:13Speaker 7: Intro, but just to highlight Gardy's tweet which you mentioned
- 15:16Speaker 7: on the way down, which just popped up Will Levis.
- 15:19Speaker 7: Thank you, Evan, GARDI just tweeting out. We talked about
- 15:23Speaker 7: Levis coming by last week. As I mentioned on Felger
- 15:25Speaker 7: and Holly last night, there was real interest in QB.
- 15:27Speaker 7: Will Levis from the Patriots, not universally, but they are
- 15:29Speaker 7: important folks in that building that believe in the talent.
- 15:32Speaker 7: What I've heard about his visit from other stops, he
- 15:34Speaker 7: hasn't blown anyone away. That dovetails, Hey, I just used
- 15:36Speaker 7: to dovetails was something that I was told by a
- 15:38Speaker 7: couple of scouts that were around the Kentucky program this year.
- 15:41Speaker 7: It's not that he's an unlikable kid, but players didn't
- 15:43Speaker 7: gravitate to him either. Can that leadership quality factor be learned.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Sack Wilson, No, the guy on the draft, the quarterback
- 15:56Speaker 4: and the draft that they didn't go to his birthday party,
- 15:57Speaker 4: Sack Wilson. Why can't I think of his name?
- 15:59Speaker 2: Is it? I don't know, I don't want Wilson.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Zach Wilson is a real guy.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Oh in Oh in the movie, in the movie, Oh
- 16:05Speaker 5: in the draft, d draft.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I thought you're talking about the rest. A lot of
- 16:14Speaker 4: that actually happened with Zach wil I'm pretty sure wasn't.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Jake Cushman was the cush.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Cush So that kind of dovetails to my son. Did
- 16:24Speaker 2: this cush that kind of dovetails to the quarterback talk
- 16:27Speaker 2: when it comes to the draft. I want to just
- 16:31Speaker 2: discuss the c. J. Stroud situation a little bit. He
- 16:33Speaker 2: had this S two comprehension test that a lot of
- 16:37Speaker 2: all the quarterbacks took, and it got leaked out that
- 16:40Speaker 2: he scored a BIS move as bysmally eighteen. Yeah, eighteen
- 16:45Speaker 2: out of one hundred and supposedly right and now I
- 16:50Speaker 2: I on the Pat McAfee show. They had somebody from this.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Company, the owner of the company.
- 16:54Speaker 2: The owner, and he said he couldn't say specifically players
- 16:57Speaker 2: because of legal reasons and all this stuff, but he
- 17:00Speaker 2: said it may have been out of context that reporting
- 17:05Speaker 2: of the eighteen, that it may not necessarily reflect his
- 17:09Speaker 2: true score or what happened and all that stuff. But
- 17:13Speaker 2: it's out there now, Like what are we hearing? Are
- 17:15Speaker 2: we thinking that c J. Stroud may not go high
- 17:19Speaker 2: up now?
- 17:19Speaker 3: Or I just feel like it's clockwork.
- 17:22Speaker 7: Every every year the week before the draft, someone's a
- 17:25Speaker 7: dumb ass that's.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Actually worked, like Laramie Tunsel with that thing that came
- 17:30Speaker 4: out the Dratton, Like all of a sudden, he's whatever thirteen.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Wearing a gas mask, taken bond.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yes, but I don't necessarily I mean, Bryce Young has
- 17:41Speaker 4: been the consensus and again who knows if it's accurate,
- 17:44Speaker 4: but the consensus number one pick now for a while. Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 4: like before any of this came out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Unless unless you read our lads, because they've got CJ.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Stroud ranked high.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Carolina. But I'm okay with with our lads, Like if
- 17:57Speaker 4: that's if they if they I.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Heard it, I heard it, I heard it. Keep going.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I don't want to go into a rabbit hole talking,
- 18:04Speaker 2: keep talking.
- 18:05Speaker 4: But I'm okay if if they think that c J.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Stroud is better, I don't like, but I assume that
- 18:11Speaker 4: that's their rankings.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, that's their ranking.
- 18:14Speaker 4: But I like, I don't think anybody is an idiot.
- 18:16Speaker 4: For like, if you like Stroud better than Young, to
- 18:21Speaker 4: each his own, I I like Stroud a lot.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Okay, I don't think.
- 18:25Speaker 4: I don't think he's good.
- 18:26Speaker 2: What if he is not? What if he does have?
- 18:29Speaker 4: You know, it doesn't seem to affect his ability to
- 18:30Speaker 4: play quarterback from what I've seen.
- 18:33Speaker 3: What is this test?
- 18:34Speaker 2: Though?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Is this like one of like it's the new.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Wonder lick, so it's like logic stuff, and.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a little bit more from what I understand,
- 18:42Speaker 5: it's kind of like playing a video game, and it
- 18:45Speaker 5: really is supposed to test their ability to react to
- 18:48Speaker 5: things that, you know, changing things quickly and like processing
- 18:52Speaker 5: essentially for quarterbacks. But I think that the bigger thing
- 18:56Speaker 5: with with Stroud that seems to be more two things.
- 19:00Speaker 5: I think around the league there's a lot of fear
- 19:02Speaker 5: about Ohio State quarterbacks. I think that's legit. Guys like
- 19:06Speaker 5: Justin Fields, Dwayne Haskins, like, it just hasn't really been
- 19:09Speaker 5: a great run of Buckeye quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Succeeding.
- 19:13Speaker 5: And I think the other thing is is that there
- 19:15Speaker 5: are some questions and I say this, I love saying
- 19:19Speaker 5: stuff like this, but there's some questions about his work
- 19:22Speaker 5: ethic and his want to and his drive and all
- 19:24Speaker 5: those types of things. I know that that thing came
- 19:28Speaker 5: out about the Manning Camp, that he bailed on the
- 19:31Speaker 5: Manning Camp at the last second and ghosted the people
- 19:34Speaker 5: that run the camp and didn't show up, and things
- 19:37Speaker 5: like that that I think are out there a little
- 19:40Speaker 5: bit now that scream some team is trying to get CJ.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Stroud to fall to them. But maybe there's some truth
- 19:46Speaker 5: to it. But justin Fields a couple of years ago,
- 19:48Speaker 5: is the media's consensus QB two by a wide margin,
- 19:52Speaker 5: and he ended up falling to what ten or eleven
- 19:54Speaker 5: in that draft. So I don't think it's totally outlandish.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Levis, we did report last weeks as well
- 20:02Speaker 2: as others that he was here. But now Giardi is
- 20:05Speaker 2: saying there's true interest. It wasn't just a smoke screen.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Brier said that Sunday night too. Yeah, a similar kind
- 20:12Speaker 4: of thing that.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Had Yeah, I mean doing their homework.
- 20:15Speaker 7: I just there's some intrigue there, and I again, like
- 20:19Speaker 7: I'm gonna stay at the top.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I think Mac deserves another chance. I don't think he.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Got the full fair share last year of fair Shake.
- 20:25Speaker 7: But there's just something about that kid love us that's intriguing,
- 20:28Speaker 7: you know.
- 20:28Speaker 3: And if you if you really, if you're really sitting
- 20:31Speaker 3: here and.
- 20:31Speaker 7: You're saying, I don't think Max's ever gonna take down
- 20:33Speaker 7: Josh Allen. He might not take down to a you know,
- 20:35Speaker 7: at what point do you say, maybe you just go again?
- 20:38Speaker 3: You go back? You got him at fifteen, take one
- 20:40Speaker 3: or fourteen again. I don't think they should, but I
- 20:43Speaker 3: wouldn't completely rule it out.
- 20:45Speaker 2: What what do they I mean, clearly that's an indictment
- 20:49Speaker 2: on Mac. If they did that, right, you don't take well,
- 20:51Speaker 2: that's what I put a quarterback at fifteen.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Why not taking a first round quarterback? If they're convinced
- 20:57Speaker 4: that they have a guy, well, that's what I mean,
- 20:59Speaker 4: just to compete with us.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I mean, if they take Levis, then they don't think
- 21:02Speaker 2: that they then they're moving I mean that's what I
- 21:04Speaker 2: most of these guys, they're moving back the next day.
- 21:06Speaker 4: But you know, if they took him at fourteen and
- 21:09Speaker 4: Mike said, yeah, I remember it looked for mac to
- 21:11Speaker 4: get I.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Remember the NA they took Ryan Mallett and it was
- 21:14Speaker 2: like we couldn't pass on him. He was, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 2: overvalued for where he was available third round and we
- 21:19Speaker 2: took him. We took him, you know, like you can't
- 21:22Speaker 2: say that about you know, uh Levis. Oh, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 2: we had to take him. We didn't think he would drop.
- 21:27Speaker 2: There's no way so I can make that argument.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I don't know exactly what to make of it, you know,
- 21:31Speaker 4: the fact that they have him, they have them in
- 21:36Speaker 4: and I don't have all the details in this because
- 21:38Speaker 4: I was away last week, but I just would be
- 21:40Speaker 4: curious to get the thoughts of you guys, because I
- 21:44Speaker 4: saw a lot of people sort of blowing it off
- 21:48Speaker 4: like there's nothing. You know, they're just doing the due diligence,
- 21:51Speaker 4: and you know, whether it's and I know there was
- 21:54Speaker 4: some ambiguity of whether or not it actually counted this
- 21:56Speaker 4: to one of the thirty picks because he's quasi local.
- 21:59Speaker 4: He was one in Newton and went to high school
- 22:01Speaker 4: in Connecticut. I don't know, does that not count on
- 22:04Speaker 4: one of.
- 22:04Speaker 5: The twenty five miles? Okay, so if he's in Connecticut,
- 22:07Speaker 5: it counts. If he's in Newton, it doesn't.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Right, So I don't know if that if that counts
- 22:11Speaker 4: as whatever. But I just don't think that teams go
- 22:14Speaker 4: through a visit at their facility for someone that they're
- 22:19Speaker 4: just looking to see what make what makes that Will
- 22:22Speaker 4: Levis tick, which I read a lot of agree like
- 22:25Speaker 4: someone someone may have someone that they are going to play,
- 22:29Speaker 4: might be drafting him and they will yep, So that's
- 22:32Speaker 4: a waste of time, that's what you did it for.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I don't buy that. But Bill is way too smart
- 22:38Speaker 4: for that. I don't. I think that there is at
- 22:41Speaker 4: the very least some intrigue for maybe this style of
- 22:45Speaker 4: quarterback and he wants to pick a brain at the
- 22:47Speaker 4: very like, it's not about well, I don't know, we're
- 22:51Speaker 4: going to play Indianapolis and Indianapolis might take him, so
- 22:54Speaker 4: we need to No way they did that, No, like
- 22:59Speaker 4: you think that's where it Fred.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's worth it, but I wouldn't rule
- 23:02Speaker 2: it out that they would do that.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Well, I think that's I mean, I think way more
- 23:08Speaker 4: of Bill, and I'm not being sarcastic in any way.
- 23:10Speaker 4: I think way more of Bill with those thirty visits
- 23:14Speaker 4: that he's limited to to not waste one on someone else.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That they always use all thirty. I don't even know
- 23:20Speaker 2: that if that's true, I'm pretty sure because it doesn't
- 23:23Speaker 2: include pro days, it doesn't include you going to their visits.
- 23:26Speaker 4: I understand there's a reason they limit you to thirty.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I know, but I'm not even sure that they used
- 23:32Speaker 2: all thirty this year. So maybe they had like five
- 23:34Speaker 2: in the you know, in their hand. I'm like, you
- 23:36Speaker 2: know what, let's just that I'm smart to you what
- 23:39Speaker 2: that they didn't use every one of them.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Yeah, but in other words, you didn't do all the
- 23:43Speaker 4: work that you could do.
- 23:44Speaker 2: But that doesn't say that they didn't go to those places.
- 23:46Speaker 2: They didn't see these people they want to see at
- 23:48Speaker 2: their pro days.
- 23:50Speaker 4: They didn't have thirty people they felt strongly enough to
- 23:52Speaker 4: bring to the facility.
- 23:53Speaker 2: If you feel struggle, why you can just as easily
- 23:57Speaker 2: go to their place and see him at his pro day.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Or than one on one.
- 24:00Speaker 2: They do both, Fred, they can do both.
- 24:04Speaker 5: And there's a certain receiver that's at Fenway Park a
- 24:06Speaker 5: few weeks ago, and they decided not to bring in Fervius.
- 24:09Speaker 4: I look at them as being as diligent as anybody.
- 24:11Speaker 4: I mean, maybe I'm still naive with this. I go
- 24:13Speaker 4: back to I think he's a very very good draft. Remember,
- 24:16Speaker 4: you know, I still get made fun of for that.
- 24:18Speaker 4: It's weird for me to be on that side of
- 24:20Speaker 4: the ledger. I know people are probably saying, what is
- 24:22Speaker 4: he talking about? Why is he arguing for the sake
- 24:24Speaker 4: of arguing. I'm not. I just think that they're as
- 24:27Speaker 4: prepared as any organization. Yeah, they do more work than
- 24:30Speaker 4: most most he was.
- 24:31Speaker 2: The guy that they canceled his trip here. They ended
- 24:34Speaker 2: up takings they sold her. You know, I think it
- 24:39Speaker 2: works both ways. Is the There's many ways to see
- 24:43Speaker 2: a guy other than bringing him here. You can go
- 24:45Speaker 2: to his proda.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I understand that, Fred, but I don't think that you
- 24:48Speaker 4: bring a guy here that you have zero interest in.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah, well, when you say interest in taking, you know,
- 24:55Speaker 2: that could be that, or like, you know, maybe they're
- 24:57Speaker 2: just doing their due diligence in just seeing, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 2: who this guy is in the event that no one
- 25:02Speaker 2: wants him and he's available in the second round. You know,
- 25:05Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe they're hearing that no one's going
- 25:07Speaker 2: to take will Levis and if he's in the second round,
- 25:09Speaker 2: we're going to take him, and so we want to be.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Just there, right, I agree, Oh yeah, we're all on
- 25:14Speaker 4: the same page. Yeah.
- 25:16Speaker 5: I don't have any inside information on it, but I
- 25:18Speaker 5: just felt like from a football perspective, it's a lot
- 25:21Speaker 5: better of a fit than people realize. Like just from
- 25:23Speaker 5: a schematic x's and o's perspective of how what he's
- 25:26Speaker 5: good at. I think he gets labeled as like a
- 25:28Speaker 5: Josh Allen out of structure, this guy that's just going
- 25:31Speaker 5: to roll out and throw bombs down the field. He
- 25:33Speaker 5: was much better at Kentucky in the film that I
- 25:35Speaker 5: watched of him in structure, operating out of the quick
- 25:38Speaker 5: game or from under center, play action and just doing
- 25:41Speaker 5: stuff that the Patriots like to do.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he's not the most accurate passer
- 25:45Speaker 2: right now. He's got some mechanic problems from what I read,
- 25:48Speaker 2: you know, that whole thing. He's just not ready yet.
- 25:51Speaker 2: But you know, for a team that's willing to put
- 25:54Speaker 2: in the time, you know he could be. He could
- 25:57Speaker 2: have a high ceiling. But from what every I'm being
- 26:00Speaker 2: told by the experts, he ain't gonna be your year
- 26:04Speaker 2: one answer. You know it's gonna take time.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree with that. I mean, we'll see, though.
- 26:09Speaker 5: I just I think with him again, I just think
- 26:12Speaker 5: that he gets miscast because of the athletic ability and
- 26:16Speaker 5: the arm talent that he's like another Josh Allen. But
- 26:20Speaker 5: I don't think that he plays like Josh Allen. I
- 26:22Speaker 5: think he plays much more like an in rhythm quarterback
- 26:25Speaker 5: and somebody that really thrives from the pocket. When he
- 26:28Speaker 5: gets outside the pocket is when he makes mistakes.
- 26:31Speaker 4: I would agree with that. And I think I wrote
- 26:33Speaker 4: here decision making with a question mark when I was
- 26:35Speaker 4: just looking at the notes that I took. I agree
- 26:37Speaker 4: with that assessment totally. Is it's not necessarily that he
- 26:41Speaker 4: can't make plays. Like I think a lot of people say, like, well,
- 26:45Speaker 4: is he smart enough? Does he do the proper? I mean,
- 26:47Speaker 4: I think there's signs of inconsistency. I think the decision
- 26:50Speaker 4: making sometimes leads to his interceptions.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Beyond what the message it sends to Mac or what
- 26:56Speaker 2: they think of Mac. If if they drafted this guy
- 27:00Speaker 2: in the first round, what are they saying about this season?
- 27:04Speaker 7: I mean I would just look at and kind of
- 27:06Speaker 7: into what I said that we realized that we're a
- 27:08Speaker 7: ways off and we can afford to maybe take a
- 27:12Speaker 7: year where instead of just trying to get those eight
- 27:14Speaker 7: nine wins and sneak into the playoffs, we might only
- 27:17Speaker 7: win five or four or five games this year, but
- 27:19Speaker 7: we're gonna throw a quarterback in there that we're hoping
- 27:22Speaker 7: is going to be able to then elevate to the
- 27:24Speaker 7: next level, and we don't believe that Max is gonna
- 27:26Speaker 7: get us there.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I think that that would be what I read.
- 27:28Speaker 2: It certainly would put the bed the whole notion of well,
- 27:30Speaker 2: all Bill wants to do is break Shooles record. All
- 27:32Speaker 2: he wants to do, you know, because this is a
- 27:33Speaker 2: long term pick, right, I mean, it's a pick for
- 27:36Speaker 2: the future.
- 27:36Speaker 7: I mean, I think, in to Evans's point earlier, it's
- 27:39Speaker 7: you know, it's not what we're expecting, but it's trying
- 27:41Speaker 7: to get one of those elite players.
- 27:44Speaker 4: You know. I don't think if I draft Levis I
- 27:46Speaker 4: want him playing by the end of September.
- 27:49Speaker 2: He might be, but like, how good is he going
- 27:51Speaker 2: to be? You know, he's going to have Like.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I'm with Mike, let him, let him, let him make
- 27:54Speaker 4: the mistakes. I mean.
- 27:57Speaker 2: To I keep going back to Peyton Manning, he had
- 27:59Speaker 2: more interceptions than touchdowns his first year, but they knew
- 28:01Speaker 2: he was great. Yeah, you just had to give him
- 28:03Speaker 2: time and if he needed it, certainly, this guy's gonna
- 28:07Speaker 2: need it.
- 28:07Speaker 5: He was also much better at Kentucky in twenty twenty
- 28:10Speaker 5: one than he was in twenty two, and they had
- 28:11Speaker 5: some better pieces around him.
- 28:14Speaker 4: So I don't know. I did not Like.
- 28:17Speaker 5: We talked about Will Levis really early on, I think,
- 28:19Speaker 5: and I was like, I don't think so, because I
- 28:21Speaker 5: just sort of looked at the interceptions and things like that.
- 28:24Speaker 5: But when you actually really dig into it, I think
- 28:26Speaker 5: he's a little bit better than people realize. I really
- 28:29Speaker 5: feel like he's getting a lot of negativity from the
- 28:33Speaker 5: media side of it, especially because of the turnovers and
- 28:36Speaker 5: some of the decision making.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Is like, I know they're completely different quarterbacks, but I
- 28:40Speaker 2: pick him over Anthony Richardson.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I would, oh, I would absolutely.
- 28:44Speaker 5: I wouldn't do that, but because if you're gonna take
- 28:47Speaker 5: the ball of clay, I'm just gonna take the best
- 28:49Speaker 5: ball of clay at the table, right. But I think
- 28:52Speaker 5: with Levis just goes back to the whole thing with
- 28:55Speaker 5: Mac what's his ceiling. You know, from a physical perspective,
- 28:58Speaker 5: how good could he be throwing the ball down the field,
- 29:01Speaker 5: creating on his own and really as the the physical
- 29:06Speaker 5: things of being a quarterback, not the mental side of it,
- 29:08Speaker 5: because Mac blows will have us out of the water
- 29:10Speaker 5: when it comes to the mental side of.
- 29:12Speaker 3: That's what I was going to ask you.
- 29:12Speaker 7: I was kind of imagining event diagram of like this
- 29:15Speaker 7: is Will Levis, this is Mac Jones.
- 29:16Speaker 3: What do they have in common? And what does Will
- 29:19Speaker 3: Levis maybe have that Max never not going.
- 29:22Speaker 4: To have, you know, like it's that yeah, just rocket
- 29:25Speaker 4: arm size, power and running. I mean he's a power run.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I mean some people said he's Tim Tebow. He's not
- 29:31Speaker 2: Tim t He's Tim Tebow with the ability to throw right.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Tim Tebow couldn't throw. He literally could not throw.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I mean he's huge, yeah, I mean you could argue
- 29:40Speaker 4: that almost too big, like Brady Quinn. Remember Brady Quinn
- 29:44Speaker 4: got all bulked up and Megan Rember, Yes, Meghan did.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Remember we had to take we had to take stalk
- 29:52Speaker 4: our selfies at the Combine one year for Megan. But
- 29:57Speaker 4: you know, he's uh, I think he's a very intriguing
- 30:01Speaker 4: skill set I agree with you, though, Fred So I
- 30:04Speaker 4: disagree with Evan on the Anthony Richardson. To me, there's
- 30:07Speaker 4: way too much unknown. I understand the boom aspect of
- 30:12Speaker 4: Anthony Richardson, but I think he hasn't really played any game.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I mean, at least you look at at Levis. He
- 30:18Speaker 4: played a little at Penn State, he played a ton
- 30:21Speaker 4: the last two years at Kentucky, And there's something like
- 30:25Speaker 4: I think that you can project to me with Richardson,
- 30:28Speaker 4: it's all projection, no doubt, no doubt. If he works.
- 30:37Speaker 4: If Levis works and Richardson works, Richardson will be the
- 30:40Speaker 4: better player he's got. He's got a better skill set.
- 30:43Speaker 4: But I think there's a much higher degree of chance
- 30:48Speaker 4: of Levis working than Richardson working.
- 30:50Speaker 2: All Right, it's all interesting, and I you know, listen,
- 30:54Speaker 2: we're not the ones that brought Will Levison, So people say,
- 30:57Speaker 2: why are you talking about Will Levis? You go to
- 30:59Speaker 2: t talk about the dragon. You know they brought them in, you.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Know, so you know we're probably gonna be talking about
- 31:03Speaker 4: this Thursday night.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Too, right, And the head coach won't say the quarterback's
- 31:07Speaker 5: name that you currently have on the roster.
- 31:09Speaker 8: So.
- 31:11Speaker 2: It's like now we're not, you know, picking them out
- 31:13Speaker 2: of the blue and discussing them. Speaking of Thursday night,
- 31:16Speaker 2: there's no regular show on Thursday, Pagrites Unfiltered, but we
- 31:20Speaker 2: will have our Draft special starting at seven thirty live everywhere,
- 31:26Speaker 2: live video from seven thirty eight thirty. Then we go
- 31:28Speaker 2: to audio per NFL rules, but we'll be live from
- 31:30Speaker 2: the draft party upstairs here at Let's Stadium, and it'll
- 31:34Speaker 2: be fun. I can't wait. I can't wait. Draft itself
- 31:37Speaker 2: starts at eight o'clock, so we'll be on air for that. Patriots,
- 31:40Speaker 2: if they stay at fourteen, will probably pick around nine
- 31:43Speaker 2: to forty five or so. But we'll be there. Let's
- 31:47Speaker 2: be there with the reaction.
- 31:48Speaker 3: All kinds of reactions. I'm excited.
- 31:50Speaker 7: So people are still chirping at me about my first
- 31:52Speaker 7: draft show, about my inadequacy in my contributions.
- 31:57Speaker 4: This back in the COVID.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, remember the show, Remember the COVID through everybody,
- 32:03Speaker 3: I might.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Have made funn of you during that show. It's like
- 32:05Speaker 2: still there.
- 32:07Speaker 4: It wasn't that the day that Eric got really mad
- 32:09Speaker 4: about something random?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Which, what are you talking about? Every draft?
- 32:13Speaker 4: Kyle Douga. They tried down Kyle doug Oh yeah, he
- 32:17Speaker 4: way off of that show.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Remember, because he didn't know who Kyle Duggart.
- 32:20Speaker 4: That's no, no, no. When they traded down, we didn't
- 32:23Speaker 4: trade We didn't get Kyle dug until the next day.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, nothing, it was it was a wash.
- 32:27Speaker 5: The Kyle Duggar pick was misunderstood.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Yeah, he wasn't mad at but Kyle Duggar was made.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Kyle dugger always gets lumped into the cold stranges of
- 32:37Speaker 5: the world and it's like no, no, no, no, this is
- 32:39Speaker 5: that was a different animal.
- 32:40Speaker 7: They could have traded down and taken Lawrence Taylor and
- 32:43Speaker 7: Eric would have been pissed at the time.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Yes, some people just hate the trade down, that's exactly.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I just want to pick. It was one too many
- 32:51Speaker 4: trade downs, even though if you actually look at their
- 32:53Speaker 4: history and I know it's deceiving because they have virtually
- 32:58Speaker 4: the same amount of trade up trade down now, it
- 33:01Speaker 4: is definitely deceiving because the first round, the overwhelming evidence
- 33:07Speaker 4: is they generally trade down and the trade ups come
- 33:09Speaker 4: in like the fifth round, into the fourth round and
- 33:11Speaker 4: stuff like that, so it's not exactly the same thing.
- 33:14Speaker 4: But they have traded up in the first round before.
- 33:17Speaker 4: You know, with High Tower and Chandler Jones the gold
- 33:21Speaker 4: everybody has to bring him up. But I would like
- 33:25Speaker 4: to see at least the mindset, Freddy, where they're prepared
- 33:28Speaker 4: to do it if a guy that they really really
- 33:31Speaker 4: cover it starts to slip. You know, we talk about
- 33:34Speaker 4: all these quarterbacks and when I was I was joking
- 33:37Speaker 4: with these guys when we did the podcast. You know,
- 33:39Speaker 4: evidently when I was going, Hendon Hooker is now a
- 33:41Speaker 4: first round pick two. Oh really, so like if you
- 33:45Speaker 4: somehow get fired, he's not into hookers. If you get
- 33:50Speaker 4: five guys before pick fourteen and very very minor and
- 33:56Speaker 4: not a sure thing. But that swap with the Jets
- 33:59Speaker 4: and the Packers, I think the Jets were really in
- 34:02Speaker 4: play for a tackle and now they're behind the Patriots.
- 34:06Speaker 4: So the Patriots will have a pick over the Jets
- 34:08Speaker 4: at a position that I think they both need. If
- 34:11Speaker 4: that sort of starts to happen, and maybe you get
- 34:14Speaker 4: a guy and the guy that we all love is
- 34:15Speaker 4: Christian Gonzales. But if that happens, I think they need
- 34:19Speaker 4: to be prepared to move up. And I just hope
- 34:22Speaker 4: it's not one of these things. Well, there's only seven
- 34:25Speaker 4: first round values in this draft. So we're going to
- 34:27Speaker 4: trade down, get one trade up, and try to get
- 34:31Speaker 4: one of the seven.
- 34:32Speaker 5: That's what you need, especially because their board is typically
- 34:35Speaker 5: different than everybody else's, so the odds of there if
- 34:39Speaker 5: they say there we only have eight first round grades
- 34:42Speaker 5: in this draft, because a lot of teams are saying
- 34:43Speaker 5: they have under fifteen. And if the Patriots board is
- 34:46Speaker 5: tiny compared to everybody else every year, so they got
- 34:48Speaker 5: to have If the Bills have fourteen first round grades,
- 34:52Speaker 5: the half the Patriots got six, right, but they're six
- 34:56Speaker 5: might be different than everybody else's, so maybe one of
- 34:59Speaker 5: their they could drop right, one of their guys could
- 35:02Speaker 5: definitely fall.
- 35:03Speaker 4: But then if it's attack, like if Broderick Jones is
- 35:05Speaker 4: one of their first round picks, and you know you
- 35:07Speaker 4: get to like ten, eleven, twelve, you know, find a
- 35:11Speaker 4: way to make sure you get them.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yep, all right. Eight five to five past five hundred
- 35:16Speaker 2: is the ACE Ticket Hotline web radio at Patriots dot
- 35:18Speaker 2: COM's the email address. Phone calls, emails are flying in,
- 35:22Speaker 2: so let's get to our listeners. We'll start with Patty
- 35:26Speaker 2: and Agawam. What's up Patty?
- 35:28Speaker 9: What's up?
- 35:29Speaker 10: Everyone?
- 35:29Speaker 2: Oh?
- 35:30Speaker 3: It's exciting.
- 35:32Speaker 10: I'm excited for this week.
- 35:34Speaker 4: I did a little research myself.
- 35:35Speaker 10: Today and the two most prevalent groups that Belichick has
- 35:40Speaker 10: drafted since since he's been the head coach and GM
- 35:45Speaker 10: there's been defensive line. He's taken six guys and he's
- 35:49Speaker 10: taken four offensive linemen, which it feel like the follow trends,
- 35:53Speaker 10: which I think you know more often than not, He's
- 35:57Speaker 10: going to pick one of those two guys in the
- 35:58Speaker 10: trenches and I'm gonna throw a wild Evan. I don't
- 36:01Speaker 10: know if you remember when I called in I first
- 36:03Speaker 10: started throwing draft draft picks at you guys and catch
- 36:07Speaker 10: twenty two. But I wouldn't be surprised if they trade
- 36:10Speaker 10: down and take Mazzie Smith in the first round. I
- 36:15Speaker 10: know that sounds a little crazy, but it's a little
- 36:17Speaker 10: bit outside the box. I mean, he's from a program
- 36:21Speaker 10: he loves draft and from and to me, he just
- 36:24Speaker 10: I mean he's not he's not the most dominant interior
- 36:26Speaker 10: defensive lineman in the draft, but to me, he just
- 36:29Speaker 10: he just screamed the Patriots pick. And I'll say this,
- 36:34Speaker 10: I know, uh, you know, I'm I'm on the big
- 36:37Speaker 10: I'm on the day Flowers train. I don't think we're
- 36:40Speaker 10: gonna draft them, so I'll be a little bit disappointed.
- 36:44Speaker 10: But if a team like Casey or Buffalo takes day Flowers,
- 36:48Speaker 10: I mean, if Casey takes Dave Flowers, they're winning the
- 36:50Speaker 10: Super Bowl again this year. I hate to tell everyone,
- 36:52Speaker 10: but that's how I see it. Can't wait to call
- 36:55Speaker 10: in on Thursday night and talk to you guys.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Then, all right, thanks Patty.
- 37:00Speaker 5: Yeah, they take Massie Smith and I will not be happy.
- 37:06Speaker 2: But you could see Bill doing that.
- 37:08Speaker 4: And run stuffing those tackles.
- 37:11Speaker 5: But I think that's.
- 37:14Speaker 4: One of the few positions that I think fans would
- 37:16Speaker 4: be right to be critical.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to shutters in Manchester. What's up shutters?
- 37:23Speaker 3: Hey you Oh, thanks for buying lunch by the way,
- 37:25Speaker 3: Thank you hutters, and happy birthday.
- 37:27Speaker 9: That's my pleasure. Well, well, thank you all. Thanks to
- 37:30Speaker 9: you all and Quare for the birthday shout out last
- 37:32Speaker 9: week and on the back of his corners. Then I
- 37:36Speaker 9: can't wait to hear how they had he gets on
- 37:39Speaker 9: Thursday night for the draft show. Okay, the question I
- 37:43Speaker 9: got today I was listening earlier on to Skaranakia speaking
- 37:47Speaker 9: on the Boom podcast about the Patriot Way, and he
- 37:51Speaker 9: was saying, how sort of five percent of the roster
- 37:54Speaker 9: want to run through a wall for you, five percent
- 37:57Speaker 9: question why you need to run through the wall at all,
- 38:00Speaker 9: and ninety are in the middle waiting to be influenced.
- 38:04Speaker 9: Seems from last year that there was more questioning about
- 38:07Speaker 9: why they're running through the wall than maybe the Patriots Way.
- 38:11Speaker 9: Leadership and certainly now, I mean, Hotel isn't so much
- 38:14Speaker 9: involved last year, but you lost Hoteler, you lost Becauthy,
- 38:17Speaker 9: you can't Slater and Andrews is there as well. But
- 38:21Speaker 9: who on the roster is strong leadership and step up
- 38:24Speaker 9: the read I'm asking for this is one boot who's
- 38:27Speaker 9: dy existing that can do that? But is strong leadership
- 38:31Speaker 9: a sneaky key aspect to be looking at in this
- 38:34Speaker 9: draft class. Now, my personal draft crush who I don't
- 38:38Speaker 9: think the Patriots are signed is Jack Campbell. But it's
- 38:41Speaker 9: that sort of hard hitting old Bruce d They don't
- 38:43Speaker 9: really need him, They're not going to get him, I
- 38:45Speaker 9: know that, but he's that leader style. Could leadership being
- 38:50Speaker 9: to have an impact on who they're looking to draft
- 38:52Speaker 9: this year?
- 38:53Speaker 2: Well, you know they've you know, they've always said they
- 38:56Speaker 2: like drafting captains just for that reason. But the lead
- 38:59Speaker 2: there's not be any rookie that's going to come in
- 39:01Speaker 2: and be a leader this year. I mean, they could
- 39:04Speaker 2: draft somebody who they hope to be a leader going
- 39:06Speaker 2: down the road. But if you're looking for leadership this year,
- 39:08Speaker 2: it's going to come from people that are already here.
- 39:11Speaker 2: And I throw Judah On in there in addition to
- 39:13Speaker 2: the names you already said. I think you know he
- 39:16Speaker 2: should be a leader on this team, you know, so
- 39:20Speaker 2: I would throw him in there. Uh, Dietrich Wise in
- 39:23Speaker 2: his own way, you know, is a leader. Bentley here's
- 39:27Speaker 2: a captain, right, Yeah, Bentley you would imagine should be
- 39:31Speaker 2: as well. But you know you're talking. You know, mccordy
- 39:34Speaker 2: was one of the best all time, and we had
- 39:37Speaker 2: such such great ones in the past.
- 39:38Speaker 4: So I think the key in what Shutters is talking about.
- 39:41Speaker 4: It's obviously an old adage for coaches. You know, you
- 39:43Speaker 4: got you know, the ten percent on either side that
- 39:46Speaker 4: you know what they're going to do. It's what the
- 39:48Speaker 4: rest of them do. And I can't help but think
- 39:52Speaker 4: last year, you know the leader of the why are
- 39:56Speaker 4: we doing that? Was Mac Jones. Was your quarterback, and
- 40:00Speaker 4: that causes and I'm not saying this is a negative
- 40:02Speaker 4: to Mac Jones, by the way, before it gets misconstrued.
- 40:05Speaker 4: I understand why he had questions about what they were doing.
- 40:08Speaker 4: We all did. We all had the same question, right, right, So,
- 40:13Speaker 4: but when the quarterback wants to know why we're doing
- 40:16Speaker 4: it that way, and there's been reports out of Alabama
- 40:19Speaker 4: that he was a y guy at Alabama used to
- 40:22Speaker 4: ruffle Nick Saban's skin a little bit, well, then that's why,
- 40:26Speaker 4: you know, when it ultimately unfolds, Jacoby Myers is a
- 40:30Speaker 4: why guy, and Kendrick Bourne is a why guy, and
- 40:33Speaker 4: David Andrews was a why guy, and Hudter Henry was
- 40:35Speaker 4: a why guy. Because the quarterback is asking why and
- 40:38Speaker 4: they don't understand why they're doing it. So they need
- 40:41Speaker 4: to find a way to get Mac Jones from a
- 40:44Speaker 4: y guy to a run through the.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Wall guy right, a circle the wagon.
- 40:47Speaker 4: And if you don't do that, I mean sure, all
- 40:50Speaker 4: the guys you mentioned I think are good leaders. It
- 40:53Speaker 4: won't matter if the quarterback's not on b Yeah, I
- 40:55Speaker 4: mean they got to fix that relationship.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Parcels called him his circle the wagon guys. These are
- 40:59Speaker 2: the guys that run through the wall. These are the
- 41:01Speaker 2: guys that carry your message to the rest of them.
- 41:03Speaker 4: And when did those Giants teams get over the hump?
- 41:07Speaker 4: When Phil Simms got on board. Yeah, there was a
- 41:09Speaker 4: lot of back and forth with Parcels and Simms early
- 41:12Speaker 4: in Simms' career wasn't the greatest quarterback. But once he
- 41:16Speaker 4: got on board and Parcels embraced him, yep, that's when
- 41:20Speaker 4: the Giants got to a different level. Lawrence Taylor, I know,
- 41:23Speaker 4: don't get in the way of a good story trying
- 41:24Speaker 4: to be positive today, but.
- 41:28Speaker 2: I remember when they drafted Mac people said, is he
- 41:30Speaker 2: going to be a captain? We said, probably not this year,
- 41:33Speaker 2: but if he's not the captain in the second year,
- 41:35Speaker 2: that's a problem. And sure enough they made him a captain,
- 41:39Speaker 2: which you know you want your quarterback to be. He'd
- 41:41Speaker 2: better be the captain of your team. But like Paul said,
- 41:44Speaker 2: you know, when your captain is questioning that trickles down.
- 41:49Speaker 2: You can't have that interesting way to look at He
- 41:51Speaker 2: can do it, but he's got to do it privately,
- 41:53Speaker 2: you know.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I would, uh, I would just.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Use this opportunity to give a small bit of credit
- 41:57Speaker 7: to col strange because I feel like he's one of
- 41:58Speaker 7: those run through the wall guys. He's not gonna ask why,
- 42:01Speaker 7: He's just gonna go.
- 42:01Speaker 3: And I think that's part of the big reason why
- 42:03Speaker 3: they liked him.
- 42:04Speaker 2: People lead by example.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he's willing to go through it.
- 42:07Speaker 7: But but I mean when he was saying that, I'm
- 42:09Speaker 7: just picturing Trent Brown and Isaiah win not not being
- 42:12Speaker 7: why guys just being like yeah, nope, yeah.
- 42:16Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 42:16Speaker 4: Worse than not not not why guys they they were
- 42:21Speaker 4: indifferent not today.
- 42:22Speaker 5: I just think that at the end of the day though,
- 42:25Speaker 5: like if if the team's winning and the players on
- 42:27Speaker 5: the team are good, and I think all this leadership
- 42:30Speaker 5: stuff is.
- 42:30Speaker 7: And that's that's that bigger point that I brought up
- 42:32Speaker 7: last week, which is like so many of these issues
- 42:34Speaker 7: that we talk about are because they haven't been a
- 42:35Speaker 7: good football team for a few years.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Like these things are snowballing. There are questions, you know
- 42:40Speaker 4: of teams that are really good that had bad chemistry.
- 42:43Speaker 4: There aren't many. Yeah, chemistry is a product of winning.
- 42:47Speaker 4: I agree.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Eddie's in Florida. What's up, Eddie?
- 42:52Speaker 11: Hey, So I like your opinion on my top of
- 42:55Speaker 11: the draft position wish list. But before that, can I
- 42:58Speaker 11: go through a lightning round with Paul on names and numbers.
- 43:01Speaker 11: It'll be really quick, Okay, challenge old Patriots?
- 43:06Speaker 4: Ready for numbers? You're giving me numbers?
- 43:08Speaker 12: Yep, given the numbers, Go ahead. Chrity Lade fifty three,
- 43:16Speaker 12: Vincent Brisbee eighty two, Great Clayborn twenty six, Don Calhoun
- 43:23Speaker 12: forty four, Pete Brock fifty eight.
- 43:28Speaker 11: Matt Cavanaugh twelve three. Left Ron movemin.
- 43:33Speaker 4: This is a guest, but I'm going to go sixty one, correct,
- 43:38Speaker 4: Horace Horace I twenty three?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Wow, get it out? Is this a setup? Did you
- 43:43Speaker 2: guys plan this? That's pretty good?
- 43:45Speaker 4: Wait? Where's the last one?
- 43:47Speaker 2: Horace? Ivory shout? Oh?
- 43:49Speaker 4: Rod showed was fifty six.
- 43:52Speaker 11: Wow, before Rod the great tippet.
- 43:54Speaker 13: Did you get out there?
- 43:56Speaker 2: Wow?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Jaron Veris was well, that's a trick question. I believe
- 44:00Speaker 4: he was sixty and ninety.
- 44:02Speaker 11: You're correct he was ninety first.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm hit really hard.
- 44:10Speaker 2: That is like, yeah, that's amazing.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Just so you knowing, don't ask me what number the
- 44:16Speaker 4: round last year?
- 44:19Speaker 2: That's when you were paying attention, right, sixty that's something
- 44:23Speaker 2: that is something all right, So your draft position.
- 44:28Speaker 11: Okay, so with three picks, no particular order. Cornerback, tackle, wide, receiver,
- 44:33Speaker 11: pretty much universal, round four, tight end, center, if not center,
- 44:38Speaker 11: front seven.
- 44:39Speaker 4: What do you guys think draft good football players?
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah? Really, it could be as long as they're you.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Know, yeah, I mean I like the idea there. I
- 44:47Speaker 4: would probably put edge a little higher than you know,
- 44:49Speaker 4: maybe the edge in the top three, but I like
- 44:52Speaker 4: I like it center.
- 44:53Speaker 3: So center, you're replacing David.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I think this is an interesting seventh round. Yeah, and
- 44:57Speaker 4: I took one in that.
- 44:58Speaker 5: I took for sight in the sixth round in my mock.
- 45:00Speaker 5: I think you gotta you gotta get ready for that.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I know nobody cares, but I heard this is a
- 45:04Speaker 2: good draft for centers.
- 45:05Speaker 5: It is a good draft, right, It is a good
- 45:08Speaker 5: draft for centers. But a lot of the good centers
- 45:10Speaker 5: are going to go in like the top one twenty five,
- 45:12Speaker 5: and I have no interest in doing.
- 45:14Speaker 4: One in the first round.
- 45:15Speaker 3: The yeah, the first round, Schmid's Schmidt.
- 45:20Speaker 4: I saw one guy, he's a zone block. One guy
- 45:22Speaker 4: had like a center at twenty five. I can't no,
- 45:25Speaker 4: I don't think it was you know me, do it
- 45:28Speaker 4: on your own time. So I can't remember the name.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Tim, Thanks Eddie.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Who's the third? That might have been the one?
- 45:35Speaker 5: There's there's three centers. They came from Ohio state Wipler, No,
- 45:40Speaker 5: what was the other name?
- 45:40Speaker 4: You said?
- 45:41Speaker 5: The middle wits tipman from a Wisconsin.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Tipman was the one I saw.
- 45:45Speaker 2: He's an interesting I like Wisconsin lineman.
- 45:48Speaker 4: That's what that is.
- 45:48Speaker 3: They keep turning them out.
- 45:49Speaker 4: That is a good point.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Freddy Dylan's in North Carolina. I hate Dylan Dylan.
- 45:55Speaker 14: Hey, how are you guys doing all right? I remember
- 46:00Speaker 14: listening to the show like a couple months ago, and
- 46:02Speaker 14: then Evan was talking crap about my boy Will Levis
- 46:07Speaker 14: Kentucky fans. He was awesome in twenty twenty one or
- 46:11Speaker 14: twenty twenty two, and then last year, you know, we
- 46:13Speaker 14: lost a lot of people. But if he drops to fourteen,
- 46:19Speaker 14: would you guys be willing to take him or is
- 46:21Speaker 14: that like completely off the ball.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I wouldn't, but I could be convinced. But right now
- 46:26Speaker 2: I say no.
- 46:27Speaker 4: And by you could be convinced, you mean that the
- 46:29Speaker 4: Patriots the patriots to be convinced.
- 46:31Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I would much have to
- 46:35Speaker 14: take a cornerback because I think that's a way bigger need.
- 46:37Speaker 14: But I mean Max John's can't throw it nowhere near
- 46:40Speaker 14: as far as him. And if he just gets his footwork,
- 46:42Speaker 14: like Evan was saying, I think he could be a stud.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Okay, I I mean I would be on board. And
- 46:49Speaker 2: you watched all their games, Dylan, most of them?
- 46:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's my favorite.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Most I forget.
- 46:54Speaker 5: Like the guy with Henny Luker last year. I watched
- 46:56Speaker 5: every game he played at tennis. Okay, do I do
- 46:59Speaker 5: you know what you're watching?
- 47:00Speaker 4: Not you? Not you, Dylan hended hooker guy.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Okay, well listen, if they if they wherever they draft,
- 47:08Speaker 2: whoever drafts, when we want you to call back and
- 47:10Speaker 2: give us your reaction.
- 47:12Speaker 4: All right, we'll do all right, thanks, Dylan. I'm gonna
- 47:15Speaker 4: surprise you and say I wouldn't like it. I think
- 47:17Speaker 4: that Mac. I think there's still some unknown.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't like it. I just think it's forget
- 47:25Speaker 2: about twenty twenty three.
- 47:26Speaker 3: If you do, they're hitting the reset button.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I don't necessarily look at it that way,
- 47:30Speaker 4: but I think that Mac Jones deserves to see it through.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I do too. I think he deserves.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Because of this situation last year.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I think he deserves to see give him this year anyway,
- 47:39Speaker 2: Just give him this year.
- 47:40Speaker 7: But I will say probably how I feel is that
- 47:44Speaker 7: Max not the guy?
- 47:46Speaker 2: You know?
- 47:46Speaker 3: That's I mean, like I guess he.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Deserves how probably how definitively get that chance with a
- 47:52Speaker 4: third year, you know, with a proper system in place.
- 47:56Speaker 2: And but if he plays well this year, you'll be happy,
- 48:00Speaker 2: for sure, for sure, but I'll be a little surprised.
- 48:03Speaker 7: I'm not expecting him to. I just I just don't
- 48:05Speaker 7: want to look back at twenty twenty three and said, man,
- 48:07Speaker 7: we had fourteenth overall pick. We had a chance to
- 48:10Speaker 7: just you know, make the move and kind of bite
- 48:12Speaker 7: the bullet.
- 48:12Speaker 3: And that's take a risk, you know.
- 48:13Speaker 2: That's absolutely If Mac doesn't progress this year and will
- 48:17Speaker 2: Levis does well wherever he goes, and he.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Was somebody that was available at fourteen.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Then yes, that'll be in play.
- 48:24Speaker 4: I kind of look at it.
- 48:25Speaker 2: All of Paul's shows will be talking dangerous.
- 48:27Speaker 4: You know what's funny about that. I was thinking about
- 48:29Speaker 4: this friend. I have not heard any of my shows
- 48:31Speaker 4: in like ten days, so I'm gonna need you to
- 48:34Speaker 4: you know.
- 48:34Speaker 2: I can't believe you didn't get the shakes.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Well, I'm gonna need you to tell me what the
- 48:37Speaker 4: shows have been saying so I can go and find
- 48:39Speaker 4: out if that was what actually happened. But anyway, the
- 48:44Speaker 4: whole dangerous to like look ahead at the next class thing, like,
- 48:48Speaker 4: so let's say you stick with mac Jones, like and
- 48:51Speaker 4: it doesn't work. If that happens, mac Jones didn't work,
- 48:55Speaker 4: and you're looking to move on, you're probably picking higher
- 48:59Speaker 4: than fourteen next year, and does that put you in
- 49:02Speaker 4: play to maybe get somebody? So whereas I'm listening, maybe
- 49:06Speaker 4: you're not necessarily kicking yourself because you let Will Levis
- 49:09Speaker 4: go because yeah, okay, I mean I I rolled the dice.
- 49:13Speaker 4: It didn't work, but I can get Drake May for somebody.
- 49:17Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 49:18Speaker 5: I mean, that's that's Barth's take on this whole thing,
- 49:20Speaker 5: because he looks seventeen drafts into the future.
- 49:23Speaker 4: I'm not even enough to speak elementary school circuit. Yeah,
- 49:29Speaker 4: so I'm not alone the twenty four.
- 49:33Speaker 5: He's telling me that Will Levis next year would be
- 49:36Speaker 5: like QB six or seven, and it's ridiculous. And even
- 49:40Speaker 5: consider this, YadA YadA, YadA. I don't like playing that
- 49:43Speaker 5: game because you just don't know what those guys are
- 49:45Speaker 5: going to be a year from now, and you don't
- 49:46Speaker 5: know what other guys might come out. I mean, Joe
- 49:48Speaker 5: Burrow was not even in the conversation, and he had
- 49:51Speaker 5: the season he had at LSU and he's the number
- 49:53Speaker 5: one pick in the draft. So you just don't know
- 49:55Speaker 5: a year out. But I do think that there is
- 49:57Speaker 5: a school of thought to that is that next year,
- 50:01Speaker 5: if you really need to jump back in the quarterback carousel, again,
- 50:04Speaker 5: it's a good quarterback class and there's gonna be some
- 50:07Speaker 5: options that might be equal or even better than somebody
- 50:10Speaker 5: like Will Levis. Personally, I would not take Will Levis
- 50:13Speaker 5: and I'd roll with Mac. But if the head coach
- 50:16Speaker 5: doesn't gonna get over it, then I take Will Levis.
- 50:18Speaker 5: Like if he's not gonna move on and he's not
- 50:21Speaker 5: gonna reset and he's not gonna get over last year
- 50:24Speaker 5: and all the issues that they had that are more
- 50:27Speaker 5: to me outside the lines, like not even about football,
- 50:30Speaker 5: then I don't really know why we're wasting our time
- 50:33Speaker 5: with Mac in the building. It just seems like we're
- 50:36Speaker 5: on a road to nowhere.
- 50:38Speaker 2: All right, let's go to Eldred in North Carolina. What's up,
- 50:41Speaker 2: Eldrid Goodson, Aldred.
- 50:44Speaker 15: Will tell you all right? Taylor Party Podcast. Hey, you
- 50:49Speaker 15: know what, it's amazing. The other night I listened to
- 50:53Speaker 15: NFL Network.
- 50:54Speaker 1: What is it?
- 50:55Speaker 15: A Texan? I ain't thinking about taking a quarterback? But
- 50:59Speaker 15: it's still traded for either Meg Jones or three Lance.
- 51:01Speaker 2: They can't all right, Well, you know you're breaking up
- 51:04Speaker 2: a little, Eldre. You're breaking up breaking Yeah.
- 51:07Speaker 4: I think the Texans are an intriguing.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Okay, we'll talk about what you just said.
- 51:12Speaker 4: Because there's been uncertainty. You Fred, at the beginning of
- 51:16Speaker 4: the show, you brought up the c J. Stroud thing
- 51:18Speaker 4: with that aptitude test, But there's been uncertainty about what
- 51:21Speaker 4: the Texans want to do with that second pick. Do
- 51:23Speaker 4: they want to take another quarterback and sort of go
- 51:27Speaker 4: They're in a situation very similar to the Patriots. They
- 51:29Speaker 4: have a guy that can play, as Bill famously says,
- 51:34Speaker 4: can play in the league, but where's he going to
- 51:36Speaker 4: take you? In Davis Mills. I think they're very similar
- 51:39Speaker 4: guys based on their first two seasons. So do they
- 51:43Speaker 4: ride it out with Davis Mills and continue to try
- 51:46Speaker 4: to prop up the rest of that roster, or do
- 51:49Speaker 4: they take CJ. Stroud. You know, I think there's a
- 51:51Speaker 4: lot of different things that they can do. I just
- 51:53Speaker 4: don't necessarily think the test itself is that I think
- 51:56Speaker 4: there's a lot of uncertainty in Houston as to what
- 51:58Speaker 4: they want to do, and maybe this is the final
- 52:01Speaker 4: nail in Stroud's coffin for them and they move on.
- 52:05Speaker 4: I think Indy has to take a quarterback. They're at four. Yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 4: I think Indy has to take one. Whether it's Levis, Richardson,
- 52:12Speaker 4: or Stroud, you know, whoever's available. They have to take
- 52:14Speaker 4: one of those guys.
- 52:15Speaker 5: It seems like the big media thinks that the Colts
- 52:18Speaker 5: want Levis and the local media thinks they want Richardson.
- 52:21Speaker 5: So I don't know which way that's gonna go. But
- 52:23Speaker 5: the Texans, to me, I think what's so fascinating about
- 52:26Speaker 5: the Texans is that they might pass on two consensus
- 52:31Speaker 5: players because they might pass on Stroud and Will Anderson
- 52:34Speaker 5: to draft Tyree Wilson. And now Nickosario is out on
- 52:38Speaker 5: an island all by himself. If he does that, and
- 52:41Speaker 5: if that pick doesn't work out, that's his job. I mean,
- 52:44Speaker 5: he's not going to keep his job. Through that because
- 52:46Speaker 5: he's already taken Derek Stingley over Sasce Gardner and Kenyan
- 52:49Speaker 5: Green over Tyler Smith last year. So that's taking Tyree
- 52:54Speaker 5: Wilson with a second overall pick. It goes against every
- 52:57Speaker 5: single consensus on this draft that you can see how I.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Forgot that, like Stingley went before Gardener. Yeah, that is
- 53:05Speaker 4: that's a tough one to overcome.
- 53:07Speaker 7: Do you think and I don't mean this to be
- 53:08Speaker 7: a reflection on the Patriots terrible drafts, but do you
- 53:10Speaker 7: think think Casaro just can't draft.
- 53:12Speaker 4: Like I don't know could be? I mean, although I
- 53:15Speaker 4: do think I kind of like Stingley as a player,
- 53:17Speaker 4: but he's not sas God and he wasn't saus God,
- 53:19Speaker 4: and coming out its unquestionable A lot I think that
- 53:22Speaker 4: he There was a lot of questions about Stingley with
- 53:24Speaker 4: the injuries, and.
- 53:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he prioritizes a lot like he's obviously
- 53:29Speaker 5: cut from the same cloth as Bill. I think that
- 53:31Speaker 5: he they prioritize a lot of traits that fit our
- 53:36Speaker 5: system and like getting it into the right you know,
- 53:38Speaker 5: the right molds and the right uh you know, body
- 53:41Speaker 5: types and things like that, and a guy like Tyrie
- 53:43Speaker 5: Wilson from everything that you hear about Tamika Ryan's Ryan's
- 53:46Speaker 5: loves length, he loves power, he loves good defensive linemen,
- 53:50Speaker 5: obviously what they built out in San Francisco. So Tyre
- 53:53Speaker 5: Wilson has been the hot pick for Houston, even though
- 53:57Speaker 5: every single draft expert and probably ninety percent of the
- 54:00Speaker 5: league thinks that Will Anderson's a better player, and that
- 54:04Speaker 5: that's I think sometimes you get caught up in that
- 54:06Speaker 5: if you're a GM like Casario, where it's like, maybe
- 54:09Speaker 5: just take the best player and not get not overthinking
- 54:12Speaker 5: about the scheme and about all that kind of stuff.
- 54:15Speaker 4: And if everyone is right, and that's what Casario thinks
- 54:18Speaker 4: going into drafts is I'm looking for guys that fit
- 54:20Speaker 4: my you know, my box. Well, it can't help that
- 54:24Speaker 4: he's had a carousel of coaches. Yeah, right, during his
- 54:28Speaker 4: time there, they've had what three coaches?
- 54:30Speaker 2: Yep, it's weird. Dylan writes in from Nashville. He says,
- 54:34Speaker 2: during the silly season, what Patriots reporter should we take? Seriously,
- 54:38Speaker 2: won't ask you which ones we shouldn't, but would like
- 54:41Speaker 2: you view on the folks you can generally trust. It's
- 54:44Speaker 2: a good question.
- 54:45Speaker 4: I think this time of year, I think it's an
- 54:47Speaker 4: excellent question, but I think it's it's also a latered one,
- 54:50Speaker 4: Like I need to know exactly what you're you're asking
- 54:53Speaker 4: to trust with. Like if someone has a trade rumor
- 54:57Speaker 4: on the draft, I would trust Mike Reese, I would
- 55:01Speaker 4: trust Albert Breer, you know, talking about the Patriots. If
- 55:07Speaker 4: you're talking to I mean this is you know, present
- 55:09Speaker 4: company excluded. Okay, I'm not talking about we're not looking
- 55:12Speaker 4: to break news. We're just giving you evaluations of the players.
- 55:16Speaker 4: But if you're talking about draft stuff, like I think
- 55:19Speaker 4: Phil Perry does a lot of a lot of homework
- 55:21Speaker 4: on on on players and and I think personally puts
- 55:27Speaker 4: a little too much stock in the in sort of
- 55:29Speaker 4: the skill set box to the patriot, like the prototypical
- 55:33Speaker 4: Patriot thing. But and there are others. I mean, I
- 55:39Speaker 4: think Tom Curran is another guy with like news related
- 55:41Speaker 4: stuff that I would I would take seriously. But the
- 55:46Speaker 4: bottom line, when you're talking about the draft specifically, nobody, nobody,
- 55:50Speaker 4: nobody knows. I mean, I think people get them right
- 55:53Speaker 4: all the time. And we've gotten the first round pick
- 55:55Speaker 4: right about a half dozen times. Like I got ty
- 55:58Speaker 4: Warren brand In, Merriweather Chandler Jones. I also thought Vernon
- 56:03Speaker 4: Golston was going to be one of the best players ever,
- 56:06Speaker 4: you know, and he was Jets like our catastrophic bust.
- 56:10Speaker 4: You know. I also liked Aaron Mabon way back once
- 56:13Speaker 4: upon a time. So I'll tell you the ones that
- 56:15Speaker 4: that I miss on just as many times as i'll
- 56:18Speaker 4: tell you the guys that I hit on. But we've
- 56:20Speaker 4: been able to identify the guy the Patriots are going
- 56:22Speaker 4: to take a couple of times more often than not.
- 56:24Speaker 4: We're all it's just guessing. It's hard to know exactly
- 56:28Speaker 4: what teams want to do.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Andre New Jersey. We finally made it to Happy Draft Week.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Two things. One conduced not call out the names of
- 56:36Speaker 2: players before I hear them get picked to go to
- 56:39Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 56:40Speaker 4: Eric's not here.
- 56:41Speaker 2: That goes to Evan as well. Please stay off Twitter.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't promise that we're not staying off Twitter.
- 56:46Speaker 8: Well.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Eric famously loved to tip picks. He didn't, you know,
- 56:49Speaker 2: he didn't care, he had disdained he got anyone who
- 56:52Speaker 2: you know, wanted to you know, not be uh not
- 56:56Speaker 2: to spoil it. So he loves spoiling it.
- 56:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sorry. I I'm with Eric on this one.
- 57:02Speaker 2: So you're gonna just tip picks.
- 57:04Speaker 5: If you tell me not to, I won't, but I'm
- 57:06Speaker 5: not going to not do it because the.
- 57:09Speaker 4: People get it.
- 57:10Speaker 3: Was hard.
- 57:11Speaker 7: It was hard last year when the cold, strange pick
- 57:13Speaker 7: came across across Slack and ye, and I think I
- 57:16Speaker 7: was the only one of the group that I was
- 57:18Speaker 7: like looking to make eyes with somebody because I didn't
- 57:20Speaker 7: want to say anything.
- 57:20Speaker 3: But you just know, here comes a tidal wave.
- 57:23Speaker 4: And it's on Twitter, like you know, when you get it,
- 57:26Speaker 4: and it's hard to just not say what the pick is.
- 57:29Speaker 4: And and you know, well, I don't know, they could
- 57:32Speaker 4: go they could go d line here or linebacker and
- 57:35Speaker 4: you already know what the picks, right, you know, which
- 57:37Speaker 4: kind of annoys me with the broadcast, right, you know,
- 57:40Speaker 4: they kind of know what's coming. Mayock was the terrible
- 57:44Speaker 4: poker face. Mike Mayock. You could absolutely tell that he
- 57:48Speaker 4: knew the pick when he was you know, Evan's arm
- 57:51Speaker 4: makes a lot of sense here, you know, at fifteen
- 57:54Speaker 4: for the race, like, you know what the pick is, Mike,
- 57:56Speaker 4: That'll be me second, pretending second, No big deal.
- 57:59Speaker 2: On just going to the Jets. They will win eight
- 58:01Speaker 2: games at max and it will always be the same
- 58:04Speaker 2: old Jets, so f them and their fan base. Well,
- 58:07Speaker 2: I'm good. I'm good on the last part. But I
- 58:09Speaker 2: think it's a big deal.
- 58:10Speaker 4: Well, it's a deal. I would just ask, I don't
- 58:13Speaker 4: care how many games the Jets win, do they beat you?
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 58:18Speaker 4: Like those are two games, two of the games against Yes,
- 58:20Speaker 4: those are two games I pencil in as w's every year.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Can I no longer do that? The cause that, to
- 58:26Speaker 4: me is the question because then you got to start saying, okay,
- 58:29Speaker 4: so you got to go from eight to ten to
- 58:31Speaker 4: get in the playoffs, right, ten wins should get you
- 58:33Speaker 4: in the playoffs with three wild cards. So how do
- 58:36Speaker 4: you get from eight to ten while losing two gimmes?
- 58:39Speaker 4: And it's just so much more the math problem, right,
- 58:42Speaker 4: It's just.
- 58:43Speaker 7: It's more than Rogers to me, it's I mean, he's
- 58:45Speaker 7: that last piece that they need. But it's just as
- 58:47Speaker 7: much about Breist Hall and Garrett Wilson and Sauce Garden
- 58:50Speaker 7: and all those pieces.
- 58:51Speaker 4: You could argue the game in Foxborough featured as bad
- 58:55Speaker 4: a quarterback play as you could get for the Jets,
- 58:59Speaker 4: and you wanted to eighty nine yard part returns time
- 59:01Speaker 4: expired ten to three.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Right, you couldn't score either.
- 59:05Speaker 5: I think the bottom line is they have a better
- 59:07Speaker 5: roster than you take Aaron rodgerst like out of the team.
- 59:10Speaker 5: They have a better roster than you do, and now
- 59:13Speaker 5: they have a serviceable to maybe even elite quarterback under center.
- 59:17Speaker 5: I don't know how you can't see that.
- 59:19Speaker 4: Like the show, Evan said, if Aaron Rodgers played quarterback
- 59:21Speaker 4: in the two games last year, they probably would have
- 59:23Speaker 4: won them. Right, what do you think would have happened
- 59:26Speaker 4: if Mike White played those same two games? I think
- 59:28Speaker 4: Mike White's think want them, but he might not have thrown,
- 59:33Speaker 4: you know, five picks or whatever. You know what.
- 59:36Speaker 7: Wilson God, I lost track of him game. They all
- 59:39Speaker 7: of them blend together for me.
- 59:40Speaker 3: These four games are I think it's four, he's played
- 59:42Speaker 3: maybe three.
- 59:44Speaker 2: All Right, we're gonna take a break. Paul's food is
- 59:47Speaker 2: here among others and thank you, So we'll do that

- 1:11:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't deal with him if he's going to
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: be like this all weekend, Fred, I need a.
- 1:11:19Speaker 23: Weekend, Paul. We know that the Bengals already gave Joe

- 1:11:26Speaker 23: five minutes in. Let's go used to make.

- 1:11:32Speaker 4: We haven't done anything in seven weeks. I'm not Eric,
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: who is never suddenly bored waiting for this.
- 1:11:39Speaker 23: Yes, Megan O'Brien, you're right, Megan, we finally found something
- 1:11:44Speaker 23: that bores me, the friggin Bengals.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: That's another great moment from We don't have Eric to
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: kick around anymore Classic.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: But I did like the way that Megan subtly led
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: Eric right into his little trap. He was famous during
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: the the Pandemic Evan for saying that it's not boring.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: I've never been bored in my life, and then Megan
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: just sort of, oh, but but you're bored waiting for
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: the Bengals to make a pick.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: I'm actually with him on on the way that the
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: draft works. Though, Oh it's just painful. It's too painful.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: But like that was just the tip of the iceberg.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: Like we started off the draft and he was already
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: in a full throat rant before the first pick was made, and.
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: I was like, by the time they traded down he was.
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: I'm looking at Douce, I'm like, I don't know if
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: we can make it. I don't have enough pepsi in
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: this planet to get me to it this weekend with him.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: All right back here. Eight five to five past five
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio at Patriots
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: dot com is the email address. We also got another listener,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Kevin in San Francisco just sent us a gift card
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: to Jersey Mike's crazy. So like draft is like Christmas
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: around here, Kevin. Yeah, Yeah, Kevin and sad one that
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: will not go to No, yeah, Jersey Mike's. We've already
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: figured out how we're gonna get.
- 1:13:03Speaker 7: It, and we're gonna maximize it. Paul, we got to
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: get the jumbos. I think, get some jumbos, you know,
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: don't cut it out.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Okay, you've convinced me I'm listening. Didn't take much. I'm listening.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: I forgot those jumbos, uh Blake and Ohio rights in.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: I've got my draft wishes and a question. So my
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: hope is, and I know a lot of Patriots fans
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: hate to hear it, is to trade back to somewhere
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: in the early twenties and gather an extra second or
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: third round pick. With this pick. I'd like to see
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: them take Jay Flowers if he's available. The guy is
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: electric and can get open. The team lacks a guy
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: who can consistently separate, and Zay seems to fit the bill.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: My question is, if the draft lays out like I hope,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: and the team is able to gather another second or third,
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: what would you what would it take for them to
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: move up into the top six or eight picks in
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: the second round. I'd love to see Dwan Jones still
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: hanging around in the early second for them to scoop up. Okay,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: so what do you think about that strategy? Trade down,
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: take Zay, pick up extra picks in the second.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: Or third, then go back up in the second, and
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: then go back.
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: That's the best case scenario to me. If you're telling
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: me that I absolutely have to suffer through another trade
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: down in the first round. Like, if they're gonna do that,
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: then at least trade down and target a player that's
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: gonna move the needle a little bit and say, fine,
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: the trade back up in the second round. You know,
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: they've traded back up in the second round in five
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: consecutive drafts.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: Yeah, that's one of the ones I was talking about.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: They trade up as much as they trade down, but
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: it's not.
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: Yeah, they've done that, that Christian Barmore trade in the
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: second round five straight years. So I think that that's
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: very plausible.
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: But I think the thing that looms over all of
- 1:14:39Speaker 7: it is just that they need elite talent.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: And talk about Darnel Washington. I see, I don't like
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: him as much as I do. I just that's okay.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: I do like him.
- 1:14:48Speaker 7: I just question if he's being overrated because I don't
- 1:14:51Speaker 7: think he's ever gonna be that athletic.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: Because no, but he's being overrated because of that.
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, you know, like like and he just always
- 1:14:59Speaker 7: looks like, you know, like a giraffe to me, Like,
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: you know, the way he runs is just you know,
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: he's just not a smooth athlete. I'm sure he'll be,
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: you know, a great solid tight end, But I don't know.
- 1:15:08Speaker 7: I just I wouldn't be opposed to him, But I
- 1:15:11Speaker 7: just think they need talented guys and it's and you
- 1:15:13Speaker 7: can sell me on Zay in the twenties and yeah,
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: that moves the needle, But who else other than Zay
- 1:15:17Speaker 7: in the twenties moves the needle? Like, you know, you
- 1:15:19Speaker 7: can't tell me they're gonna trade down and get a
- 1:15:20Speaker 7: lot of those other guys that'll be around, like they'll
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: be nice. But I just think I'd love to just
- 1:15:25Speaker 7: get one player that I truly believe can be an
- 1:15:27Speaker 7: elite And if you.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Target Zay, just take them.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: Yeah, try to try to spin the wheel and.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Right like, why are we going to roll the back?
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Then he's gonna go from fourteen to twenty one and still.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Be Well, really, it's a big risk to trade down
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: with only one player. In mind, you trade down when
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: you have several players who you know are gonna be there,
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: you know, or you know you know at least one
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: of them will be there.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: Right Like, if they look at the receiver position and
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: they say Zay Addison, Quinton Johnston, and we're comfortable taking
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: any of those three guys. If we trade down, then
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: maybe do But I think the reason why you trade
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: down is because you get that AMMO to then maybe
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: trade back up again in the second round and get
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: two players inside the top forty instead of two players
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: inside the top fifty, which I guess you can. I
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: can hear that argument.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: I didn't hate. Yeah, I didn't hate the scenario that,
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: but that's kind of what they've been doing.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a couple of tackles, you know, he mentioned
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: Dwan Jones. I think Anton Harrison is going to be
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: right on that fringe end of the first round beginning
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: of the second round that if those guys hang on
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: into day two and you're sitting there, Day two is
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: getting started on Friday, and we're and our best availables
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: is up, and it's you know, a couple of these
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: tackles or maybe a guy like Emmanuel Forbes or one
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: of the corners is still there. I like the idea
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: of that that second round trade up if you have
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: the AMO to do it, which I think you get
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: if you trade down, and.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: It depends what you're getting to, like, like you could
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: trade down from fourteen, you know, as someone said, twenty
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: six earlier. That that's a big that's a big just
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: so you're probably gonna get something for that, right, you know. Yeah,
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: I guess a lot of people would rather have like
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: twenty one, forty six and fifty than fourteen and forty six.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: I wouldn't, especially when you have eleven draft picks, and
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: you know already now if you're one of those teams
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: that doesn't really help. You're just looking to trade down
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: to add some picks that you don't have, Like Miami
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: doesn't have a first round pick. Maybe they're looking to
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: add some some picks to the start. And I don't
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: love the guys that are available, Like, you know, to
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: Evan's point, you can get a group of three and
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: you're pretty comfortable, okay, But the Patriots, like, how do
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: you get these players that put you over the top
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: if you can consistently pick further down?
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:17:54Speaker 7: No, And to your point, pol, I think they got
- 1:17:56Speaker 7: eleven picks, like they already have the ammal guys on
- 1:17:59Speaker 7: the roster to move up, you know, so like would
- 1:18:02Speaker 7: anyone be that upset if he only came away with
- 1:18:04Speaker 7: god six draft picks? But you really love all of
- 1:18:07Speaker 7: them and they're all in ye spots where you like,
- 1:18:09Speaker 7: I'd be ok.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: Every point. There's seventy five guys already on the roster,
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: so that's that, that's eighty six. You're probably going to
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: get some specialists. Now. I know you can cut guys.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: I mean there's you know, there's seventy five guys in
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: the roster. You know twenty of them shouldn't be worrying
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: about any mortgage payments. I don't know. I just I'm
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: always in favor of getting the best players. If if
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: Zay Flower that's why I had no problem with that scenario.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: But if you really like Zay Flowers and you think
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: he's a difference maker, why not just take him at fourteen? Now,
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: if you can do what the emailer said, yeah, I'd
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: rather have the guy I want at fourteen at twenty
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: one so I can add a pick in the top fifty. Sure, yeah,
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: But there's no guarantee.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: But there's no guarantee you're getting.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: Him, right.
- 1:18:57Speaker 7: I wonder too, how much other teams, how well they
- 1:19:00Speaker 7: track other teams, Like, how on top of that are
- 1:19:03Speaker 7: they knowing all right, these six teams they are not taking?
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: Are you sure they're not.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: Taking They didn't do a really good job of that
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: last year with their first hard pick, right, Yeah, they
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: didn't say that. Well, it's tough projection.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: I mean, we spend so much time on the Patriots.
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: We could tell you immediately.
- 1:19:19Speaker 7: But there's got to be someone within this building whose
- 1:19:21Speaker 7: whole job is just to tell you what is this
- 1:19:23Speaker 7: team going to take, Who do you think they like,
- 1:19:25Speaker 7: who fits their system? You know, who has that kind
- 1:19:26Speaker 7: of knowledge of every single team. But even then it
- 1:19:29Speaker 7: seems like someone else might trade up and grab one
- 1:19:32Speaker 7: of the guys you're targeting.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: I wonder how often it teams have moles that tell
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: other teams who they're interested in, and whether it's for
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: nothing or for money. So I was watching it, I wonder.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: I was watching one of those documentaries on NFL Netport
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: the weekend and they had the eighty four draft, and
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: that was the draft that Did you see this? Did
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: you watch this?
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: I've seen it before.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: Yeah, okay. So one of the things they were talking
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: about was the pick the famous uh forty nine Ers
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: trade to get Jerry Rice. They traded with the Patriots,
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: and there was three receivers. Like Evan pointed out, that
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: they wanted, and they Walsh ends up calling Cincinnati Sam White,
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: who was his old offensive coordinator, and they're talking and
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: whis was like, like we Walsh told him like, we
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: want Eddie Brown, and White says, well, we like Eddie Brown.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: And I was just surprised to hear them talking about
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: how this all unfolded, Like they kid just came right
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: out and said it. What if Cincinnati didn't really want
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: Eddie Brown, But like Sam, Wish obviously thought a lot
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: of Bill Walsh. You know what if in the back
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: of his mind he was Jerry Rice. But Bill, Bill
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: thinks it's Eddie Brown. No, no, no, right, you know what
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: I mean? Yeah, right. I was surprised to hear talking
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: about it so openly. I don't know if that's exactly
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: the way it went down the way that Wish sort.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: Of who can you trust who's gonna be giving you
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: false The.
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: Bottom line was that pick. By the way, as they
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: fell into it, they had three guys and that was
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: the guy that they liked the least, and they ended
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: up getting Jerry Rice.
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: It's interesting though, when I was at the Shrine Bowl,
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: it's very early on in the process, but just to
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: listen to scouts and I don't know if these guys
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: are you know, what a level of scout they are,
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: but scouts from different teams sitting there talking to each
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: other about the players like they're on the same team.
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: I was fascinated to hear some of that chatter of
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: you know, Bart and I were joking that one of
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: them was a Steelers scout and we were like, what
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: was he saying about the wide receivers, you know, and
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: stuff like that, just to hear here's a Steelers scout
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: and a Dolphins scout and they're talking about players openly
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: about what they think of these guys, even though they're
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: on different teams. So I think there is a little
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: bit more of that chatter than maybe you would expect.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: Not now, I don't think once we get really close
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: and it's at the end of.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: The day, you're all watching the same tape, right, You're
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: at the same practice. You know.
- 1:21:58Speaker 7: It was the same thing I noticed when I, you know,
- 1:22:00Speaker 7: gone to a couple of those pro days, Like it
- 1:22:02Speaker 7: just was a little surprising. You just don't expect all
- 1:22:04Speaker 7: the scouts to kind of be friendly working together going
- 1:22:07Speaker 7: through that. I mean, they do it all the time.
- 1:22:08Speaker 7: It's like they just travel from school to school. Here
- 1:22:11Speaker 7: we are you know, what else are you going to talk?
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: They they pull together their numbers on like you know
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: they because they'll tie them forties and stuff like that
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: at pro days by by hand and they all come.
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: The number that usually comes out is an aggregate of
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: or the average of all the scouts that were there,
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: and they make like a circle and like somebody like
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: leads the huddle, and basically it's just like what time
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: do you have? What time do you have? What time
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: do you have? And then they average it out.
- 1:22:36Speaker 7: It just fascinates me how they do that, like when
- 1:22:38Speaker 7: you know, like how like how how it can match up.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: They would have a little bit better way.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: To do that when we have a little combine here
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: every year for high school kids in the bubble and uh,
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: they have electronic timers now, but I still go with
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: the iPhone and I use.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: The bop high hand.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: How close are you?
- 1:22:57Speaker 21: Not?
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: Way off? But it's something where you're talking am the internet.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: The hundredths of second then made the combine the physical.
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: Bench pressing must have liked you couldn't wait for that part.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Uh, Mitch in Albany, Is it safe to say that
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: the off season for the Patriots has been pretty quiet
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: and Mundane I was hoping we would get at least
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: one more emergency podcast because that would have meant they
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: actually did something worth noting. Second, if the Patriots were
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: to take jsn or Flowers, do you guys think the
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: offense is complete or they would still be missing another threat?
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: And do you think Belichick and the coaches think jsn
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: or Flowers completes the offense and they don't need to
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: make any more moves.
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: And besides offensive line.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: Yeah, in terms of weapons, I just think you know,
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: they brought in Gasiki, they brought in Shuster, kind of
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: a replacement if they brought in a receiver in the
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: first round. Do you think in terms of weapons they're done.
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: I think they have to be, because you got those
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: guys kind of play. Yeah, say, you just can't have
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: too many mouths to feed.
- 1:24:02Speaker 7: I just think for me that it's just the general
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: trait of quickness in the middle of the field.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: I just don't think they have that.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: I think they got some good size, some good lengths,
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: some good guys to go down the field. I just
- 1:24:11Speaker 7: I'd like to get a couple of horizontal guys to
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: round it out. I mean we can say, of course
- 1:24:15Speaker 7: they need that like dynamic X receiver. I don't know
- 1:24:18Speaker 7: if they're going to find that in this draft, but
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: I mean I think overall, I'd be at least intrigued.
- 1:24:21Speaker 7: Right now, it just feels kind of like I think.
- 1:24:23Speaker 7: I mean, I'm you know, we did the roundtable kind
- 1:24:26Speaker 7: of with Kasiki, you know, like I think Juju, I'm
- 1:24:29Speaker 7: I'm interested to see kind of what what his version is,
- 1:24:31Speaker 7: but ultimately expect him to be vaguely as productive as.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he could could be significant upgrade from Jacob, but
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: right now we're thinking it's kind of a swap. But
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: you know, because Smith just never caught on, you're hoping
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: that Kaiski Kasiki is a clear upgrade there.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: It just gives some disclosure. I had to do a
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: Google search on the Patriots free agent signings, So no,
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: it didn't like Robinson, No, I picked when I when
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: I put up a oh yeah, that to me is
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: the only like to your point, like, I think that
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: he should be right, should be significantly better than Jona Smith, right,
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: but in terms of that like emergency podcast where obviously
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: will be on the air, did they make a trade
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: this weekend, not a draft trade. Oh, like for a player?
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: Do they acquire a player, a veteran player.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna say yes, just because I feel like they
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: usually do.
- 1:25:26Speaker 7: Like I don't know, there's always seems like there's some movement.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say yes. I'm gonna say
- 1:25:30Speaker 7: they will.
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: I've been percolating on that. I think yes, as well
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: as Jerry Judy done, can I can?
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: We can? We pivot? Sure? Brandon Aiyuk? Why the hell
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: would San Francisco on trade him?
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: Because they don't have the money to pay all of them.
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: He's in the same exact position contractually as Jerry Judy,
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: same spot his fourth year right now of his rookie deal,
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: going into the fifth year option.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: But they're super Bowl caliber like Denver, right.
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: But I could see a team like San Francisco thinking
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: that we can trade Brandon Nayuk and we can draft
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: insertin name here, and we have the system and we
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: have the infrastructure that that guy's going to be as
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: good as Brandon nay.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: That would be just as arrogant as that ding bat
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: would would act. He would say, it doesn't matter. I
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: can just plug the guy in.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and then you know, usually this trade happens on
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: the second day, right after the teams have gotten their
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: first round. It's like, okay, now we'll trade so and so.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: Usually that's you know, Randy Moss was second day, you know, you.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: Know, yeah, and that's what I'm talking. I don't necessarily
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: mean Thursday night, but right, I think that we've sort
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: of forgotten about acquiring somebody via trade. And I don't
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: ever rule it out, no.
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: But for good reason, because it's so hard to say
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: what are they going to do?
- 1:26:49Speaker 7: I mean, you can throw random players out there that
- 1:26:52Speaker 7: could possibly make sense, but probably it's going to be
- 1:26:54Speaker 7: somebody that we haven't of course, you know it's gonna be.
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah, right.
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: I just brought up by Yuk because some of the
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: the forty nine ers beat writers that I follow have
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: been talking a lot about wide receivers in this draft
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: for them because of that exact reason, we're just gonna
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: swap them out. You know, we're not gonna pay Auk
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: long term, so we're already paying Debo and Kittle and McCaffrey,
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: and you know, they don't have the money to pay
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: all these guys, and so what's the difference to them
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: between Nyuk and Jonathan Mingo or who you know, whoever,
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: and they kind of just do a swap there and
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: get something back for Brandon Nyuk. I don't know, it
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: just it dawned on me as somebody that we talked
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: so much about Hopkins, we talked so much about Judy,
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: and it's sort of going after that, what's that Who's
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: the guy that nobody's talking about that all of a
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: sudden gets moved like aj Brown last year?
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, Sam in North Carolina says last season, I felt
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: the defense had a hard time getting off the field
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: on third in three to five yards. Is there someone
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: the Patriots could draft that could help them get off
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: the field in these situations? Yeah, Christian Gonzale.
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: I mean, they just had trouble getting off the field
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: on third down. I don't think that the distance of
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: the yardage was really.
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: I mean, I would say that probably all defenses struggle
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: in that situation, third and three to five.
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: Right, everything's on the table.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and you don't have to necessarily execute at a
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: high level on third and three, you know, a quick
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: hit or boom. You know, we didn't get a we
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: didn't get a big gain, but we moved the chains.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: Alex writes in from Charlotte. Question for Paul uh about
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: the state of the team? Uh, First, which pick on
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: Thursday is less disappointing for you? B John Robinson or
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: a tackle at fourteen which is.
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: Less less disappointing would be the tackle? And I love
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: B John Robins. Before anybody said, like, I think B.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: John Robinson's a very good player. We kind of talked
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: about this. There's an argument we made that he's the
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: best player in this class. He might not be, but
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: there's an argument for it. I just don't like the
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: idea of a running back that high. Maybe it's stubborn.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: I mean it's not the first time I'd be guilty
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: of that. I'd be less disappointed with the tackle.
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: Secondly, if you could wave a magic wand and just
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: get rid of the O line and D line in
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: football and you are the GM of the team, what
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: wide receive was did you bring in via trade draft
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: or signed to add explosive That's that's a loaded question. Yeah.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: I like Evans brandan Ayuka theory. I just I guess
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: I'll never underestimate his stupidity. I think nothing of Shannan.
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: If you can't tell, I think absolutely nothing of a
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: guy who is the championship game so arrogant and he
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: keeps costing them when you get there. Well not this year,
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: but I just think that the idea that you could
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: get doesn't matter. I just I plucked him off the
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: off the stud tree because it's my system. That's you know,
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: maybe he will trade him, maybe he'll think like that,
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: but I would look at it and say, I'm super
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: Bowl caliber right now. I have guy in his fourth
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: year in a contract year. It behooves him to light
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: it up for him. And if I can't retain him,
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: I can't retain him. But I'm gonna roll the dice
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: and just say.
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: I can do it with anybody, especially with like it
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: sounds like somebody else, McCaffrey, Debo injuries.
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: You know, it's my point, like, what happens if you
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: do that? You draft a guy who may or may
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: not be able to play. Let's face it, it's a
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: draft pick who knows and then Debo, who's always in
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: and out of the lineup, and McCaffrey, who's always in
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: and out of the lineup, are hurt at the same time.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: So now you got George Kittle, who, by the way,
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: also isn't the most durable player. And that's it. I
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: have the super Bowl caliber roster in my system that
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: evidently is flawless. Although I've never won a title.
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: It is a good system, you know, And I could
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: just plug anybody into it.
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: But now I got nothing. I have no one to
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: plug in. I mean, it's a good point. I don't
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: think that he I don't think that Evan's wrong. I
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: think that's the way he thinks.
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: I would not have thrown it out there if I
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: didn't see some of the San Francisco media chattering about it,
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: Like I'm reading these about the forty nine ers and
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: all the like wide receivers at near the top of
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: the needs list because of getting out ahead of Brandon Nayuk.
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: You know, in his contract, you spent a better pro
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: than Jerry Jude and everybody's got over Judy, right, He's
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: been a lot better in the pros than Judy. I'm
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: a different situation, but yeah.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: He doesn't have that magic system.
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: Well he doesn't mean Jerry Judy doesn't have George Kittle
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: and Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel taking the attention.
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, should we give away a T shirt?
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: Matt Oh wow, okay, all right, so we'll give away
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: a T shirt. First correct answer that emails it to
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: web radio at Patriots dot com wins the T shirt.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: It's a Patriot's unfiltered T shirt. And the question is,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: what was the name of the Patriots first online video show?
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: What was the name of the Patriots first online video show?
- 1:32:04Speaker 7: Maybe we should bring some T shirts up to the
- 1:32:05Speaker 7: draft party on Thursday, and we still don't have that
- 1:32:08Speaker 7: T shirt.
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: Gun got gotta have some reason for being at the
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: draft party.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: Oh, you got to write it down.
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: I went an hour and a half.
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: Well, I was thinking if we have one of those
- 1:32:21Speaker 7: T shirt launching machines that we could, you know, find
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: lucky fans in the stands and shirt faced.
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: As long as I'm not doing the firing, because I
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: do not want to then fired.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: Right, Let's see Rory in the UK writes in Happy
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers Day. Everyone with the Patriots, now the bookies
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: least favorite to win the division, and the team's recent
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: draft history fresh in our minds, I'm sure excitement is
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: high in Patriot's Nation. If you find your I sent
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: a little sarcast.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: Vegas is always.
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: We have a winner already in Albany. Who Mitch from
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: Albany with Patriots cyber sideline.
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: That's correct, my roommate, welcome.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: All right. Maybe we'll do another uh.
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: Welcome to you later in the show cyber sideline.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: All right, good Mitch.
- 1:33:09Speaker 24: Uh.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: If you find yourself a little too excited about the
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: upcoming draft to need your mood setting settling down a bit,
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: I highly recommend the excellent NFL film channel NFL Throwback
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: on YouTube. Sit back pop on the two thousand and
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: eight or twenty thirteen draft or something like that, and
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: watch all those teams who are sure they're getting better
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: now that they have Goster Cherilists or Chance Warmack sarcasm aside.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: I'm fully on board with just drafting. No, I'm just
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: I'm fully on board with just drafting someone who's fun
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: to watch, like Deontay Banks or z or something just
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: give me hope.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: And I thinkists from Somerville by the oh.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: I find it interesting that that people find that there
- 1:33:52Speaker 5: are a lot of people do find corners to be
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: fun to watch, because I I enjoy breaking down corners,
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: But on TV, you don't even see him seventy five
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: percent of the time, right, So, I don't know.
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: I get it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: They're fun to watch when you need that play at
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: the end of the fourth quarter to win the game,
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: and they make it fun.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: Right sure, yeah, like a guy like that, But yeah,
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: I get that. I just I don't know. I know
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: what you don't banks is really going to get like
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: people are like, Yeah, Like.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm really starting to warm up on
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: save Flowers though. I mean, he's there's enough of these
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: national pundits that are high on Zay Flowers in terms
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: of visibility that make me say, maybe I should give
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: him a second look because BC isn't known for wide receivers.
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: They're not known for offense. You know my linement ever
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: since time offensive Lineman's yeah, ever since Tom koffin Matt Ryan,
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: you know. And uh so, the fact that Zay Flowers
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: is that high up with a lot of these expert
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: means he broke through, you know, that barrier that DC
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: players have, so he might be better than we all
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: think he is. You know.
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: I mean I don't think he could be better than
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: I think that would be hard, you know, So I
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: like I'm wondering.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: What everybody thinks. What how do you know what everybody thinks.
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: I've been doing my first or second round pick.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: No, but they're saying like he's got exceptional ability to
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: get separation. That you know, if he had had a
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: quarterback that was more accurate, he'd be even better.
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: I mean, but I think everybody has him in their
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: top five receivers. Yeah, but in the class. I mean,
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: I think he's very high.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: But I think a lot of people don't think you
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: should pick him high in the first round. I think
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: you should wait till late first round, early whatever. But
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: I wouldn't take him high in the first round. But
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: I've heard people saying I'm guilty. Don't don't let the
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: size cloud your judgment.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: I will, Like, I just think the size thing is
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: just that's today's game is just today like it's so
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: it's so much leans towards like the player that Zay
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: Flowers is. Like, I just I always get caught up
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: on the size thing because you can't touch anybody down
- 1:35:53Speaker 5: the field anymore, so like who's who? Like where is
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: the physicality overpowering? And maybe at the line of scrimmage,
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: But if you're not playing him a ton on the outside,
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: and he's not going to face a ton of press
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: coverage anyways. So I keep going back to that when
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: people are like always too small, and I'm just like,
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: who is, Like they can't ride receivers down the field anymore.
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: If he breaks at the top of the route and
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: somebody grabs him, it's going to be a flag every
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: single time. So where is the physicality part of it?
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: I concern with size has nothing to do with getting
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: off press coverage. It has to do with withstanding the
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: punishment over the middle, which my guess is at Boston College,
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: he didn't take a lot of shots over the middle. Yeah,
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: but I think I think you will now listen, Edelman
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: was able to withstand them and Welker was able to
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: withstand them. They both had long careers in that spot
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: at similar size. I just think he's a different guy.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: Is really small.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: I heard one pundit compare you know, minus the craziness
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: to Antonio Brown.
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: That that's like the popular ceiling comparison for him, meaning
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: if he absolutely hits it out of the park, he could.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: He has that type of movement skill. But I just
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: I don't know if he's going to be a guy
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: that's going to have to live in that real middle,
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: packed in the middle of the field because he has
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: that explosiveness to separate over the top. So how is
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: he going to survive the middle of the field. Probably
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: by running away from everybody, Like you know, that's.
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: What he did in college. When you're watch him on tape,
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: he runs away from everybody. I don't think you can
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: do that in the pros. That's fair, We'll see, because
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: I think everybody's that fast in the pros.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Okay, all right, but it's it's how quickly do you
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: go from zero to the accounting from that was? You know,
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: if you go to forty speed, that's different. But I'm
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: talking about the shuttle speed, the cone.
- 1:37:30Speaker 7: Quick the ins and the outs, the three coney.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: He actually didn't run the agilities, which for some people
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: is a little bit of a flag because he looks
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: really quick on film, So what are you hiding?
- 1:37:46Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: Are you not at?
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: But I think with him, his quickness really shows up
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: after the catch, like he's one of those guys that
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: you know, he had a cut against Louisville where he
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: broke two guys his ankles and one cut right and
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: then he just kind of takes off up the sideline.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: So I don't know, I don't necessarily look at him
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: as like a Welker Edelman slot. I look at him
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: more as like a Dion Branch type of receiver that's
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: gonna get up the field a little bit more. So
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: I'm not as concerned about him getting hit.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: I mean, I will say this, I will not be
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: disappointed if that's the pick. I like the idea of
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: adding a dynamic athlete in the passing game. You know
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: how you always like, well, if they pick him, I'll
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: I'll be on.
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: If they have him in Taekwon on the field together.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Even if Taekwon is just just a fast guy that's
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: running in a straight line. That that's some serious explosive.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: Throw Marcus Jones out there for a player too.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: I have some concerns about I have a day pick.
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: I mean I've been saying that for four months.
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: The rhyming that you could do, the headlines.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Kids, no.
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: Mackenzie, things are blooming in Gele.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: Oh, the flowers, yeah, oh, we could go crazy with him.
- 1:39:06Speaker 7: Uh, local kid Eric might come out of retirement just
- 1:39:09Speaker 7: for that to like, for all the flowers puns that
- 1:39:12Speaker 7: he could.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: Yeah, April drafting brings trade flowers.
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Todd's and Greenville. What's up? Todd.
- 1:39:20Speaker 24: Let me begin by congratulating you on listening to your
- 1:39:23Speaker 24: draft team and finding Eric's replacement with you know, that
- 1:39:26Speaker 24: youthful snark and knowledge of the game. And most importantly,
- 1:39:30Speaker 24: you know, Evan cares about the game, so that's probably
- 1:39:32Speaker 24: that's true.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: Liking football is a big advantage.
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: He likes the game too much.
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: Yeah. Married to the game, baby.
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure your girlfriend was hearing that.
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: Told her the other night. You didn't go over well
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: for me for this draft.
- 1:39:44Speaker 24: What I'm looking for, do the Patriots address the needs
- 1:39:49Speaker 24: based on the current you know, I don't know take
- 1:39:52Speaker 24: zeitgeist because that's Spread's word, but the current you know,
- 1:39:54Speaker 24: mode of play in the NFL. Do they get fast linebackers,
- 1:39:58Speaker 24: do they get that outside speed? They do they address
- 1:40:01Speaker 24: it looking to where the game is or do they
- 1:40:03Speaker 24: go back to saying, hey, we're going to do some
- 1:40:04Speaker 24: smash po stuff. We're going to do our style, you know,
- 1:40:07Speaker 24: this controlled stuff and we're going to you know, run
- 1:40:11Speaker 24: first past second whatever. I really want to see what
- 1:40:13Speaker 24: they do because I think that's going to tell us
- 1:40:15Speaker 24: where the staff is what they're thinking and how it's
- 1:40:18Speaker 24: going to go forward. I think that's what we got
- 1:40:19Speaker 24: to look for. Yeah, what does your guys take?
- 1:40:21Speaker 15: Thanks guys.
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: They they draft a fast linebacker in the top one hundred.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: Ball in this class. Not a great linebacker class. I think.
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: I saw somebody I think is Marcus Moser. One of
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: those people does like a big consensus board every year
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: which takes like Kuiper McShay and Jeremiah and like all
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: the big draft people and puts it all in one
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: aggregate board. And Jack Campbell was the I know Drew
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: Sanders consensus number one linebacker at like forty six or
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: something like that in the top one hundred. You know,
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: just not not a great linebacker class this year.
- 1:40:59Speaker 7: I just think for me, the biggest issue I see
- 1:41:01Speaker 7: with that linebacker thing is is just when they get
- 1:41:04Speaker 7: with the mobile guys, you know, it's like the safeties
- 1:41:06Speaker 7: can't quite stick with them and you know, get him
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: down and the linebackers can't catch them, and you know,
- 1:41:10Speaker 7: they just get stuck in the middle area.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: But otherwise I've given up.
- 1:41:14Speaker 7: I just like they they that's what their philosophy is
- 1:41:16Speaker 7: with strong safeties and linebackers until Jawan Bentley leaves or
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: till I leaves or you know, they have to make
- 1:41:22Speaker 7: a decision on Dougger.
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: I think that's what they're gonna do.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: Would you take van Ness in the first round at fourteen? No? No,
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: I didn't love him.
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: You don't I like him, but not at fourteen?
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: No, I don't know.
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: I mean, I'd much rather.
- 1:41:36Speaker 7: I mean, it's stupid to say, but I mean the
- 1:41:37Speaker 7: Tyree Wilson's like those guys.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: He's someone I've seen anywhere from top ten to down
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: in the twenties.
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: If they take van Ness, then Bill better get a
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: good review from what's his name? The coach at Iowa,
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: i Farence, because he wasn't a full time player at Iowa.
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: He didn't start a single game right at Iowa. And
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: he was like a four hundred snap guy last year.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: But he was out there on all the key situations.
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: He was but he was like their josh u Ja.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: And it's if you're drafting him at fourteen, then you
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: need him to be a three down player. So why
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: wasn't he a three down player at Iowa. It's not
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: like Iowa had seventeen defensive ends that were all, you know,
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: it's not Alabama, Like, we're not talking about a school
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: that has five star recruits up the wazoo on the
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: defensive line.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: So yeah, let's go to Aaron in New Haven. What's up, Aaron? Aaron?
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: Are you on mute? Okay, Aaron is gone. I'm sorry
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: about that matchup. Aaron sam in Toronto rights in. He said,
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: I wrote a whole email on my thoughts that the
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: Patriot should draft offense with the first two or three picks,
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: as I believe they need to stop trying to win
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: games with a score of six to three and get
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: back to being able to win thirty eight, thirty five.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: Oh Paul would love that.
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: Well, that was the beauty of Brady. He could Beatre
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: six three or thirty eighth, whatever you decided.
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: Was And then everybody said he played well when they
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: won six to three.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Then I remember they used their Then I remember more
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: than I am. Then I remember they used their first
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: two picks on offense last year, and it didn't matter.
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: So I deleted the whole thing to now say I
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: don't care what they do as long as they hit
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: on the players they take this. Teams need franchise players
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: on both sides of the ball bad. But I'm keeping
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: expectations low going into it to protect myself after the
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: last ten or so drafts. I just hope the first
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: two picks don't cause the PR team to have to
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: turn on the spin machine like last year about the
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: picks that they weren't reaches and that if we didn't
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: take them, another team was about to. Let's let the
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: other teams do the early reaching. Please good email.
- 1:43:46Speaker 7: I mean, that's what the bottom line is, Like, I
- 1:43:48Speaker 7: don't really care trade up, trade down, but like, just
- 1:43:51Speaker 7: hit the picks, Like, just hit the picks, and good
- 1:43:53Speaker 7: players have been selected in every round of the draft,
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: and that's what they have to do. And until they
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: start getting those guys, it's it's gonna be more of
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: this like seven eight win seasons.
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I've been really as the draft gets closer,
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: like the whole what position should they take in the
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: first round?
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: Good football player?
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: Like just get me somebody that is that is going
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: to have some elite potential or whatever position it is
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: other than nose tackle and running back.
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: I don't really think that it's true, but that's the
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: beauty of needing four or five spots you don't have
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: to be pigeonholed into taking one.
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: I also think, you know, to spin it with a
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: little bit of positivity. In free agency, they filled out
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: the back end of the depth chart and they added
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: some guys at tackle. They added some guys you know
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: that can that are those depth pieces. So because you
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: have a Riley Reef on the roster, you're not absolutely
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: desperate to take a tackle in the first round.
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: I agree you could take one in the third round
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: that you have an idea. Maybe it isn't quite ready,
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: but I can plug in Riley Reef and I'm probably
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: gonna get twelve games out of him, and if I
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: need my rookie third round pick to play four or five,
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: I'll be okay.
- 1:45:03Speaker 7: That's why cornerback sticks out to me because I do
- 1:45:06Speaker 7: have some confidence in them at tackle and developing tackles
- 1:45:09Speaker 7: and you know those kind of things. Like a guy
- 1:45:11Speaker 7: like Tyler Steen, you know, like I could see that
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: being the pick and then he.
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: Kind of emerges with cornerback.
- 1:45:15Speaker 7: I just that with this class, with where they're picking,
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: it just there's a handful of really potential elite guys
- 1:45:21Speaker 7: and then you get into good corners that are fine,
- 1:45:23Speaker 7: and they could fill a role. But for of all
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: the positions that I feel like, if it's now or never,
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: I feel like that's probably cornerback.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: For me.
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: It's like if you don't get one at fourteen, you're
- 1:45:31Speaker 7: probably just gonna, you know, take a take a shot
- 1:45:33Speaker 7: on somebody in the second or third round that you
- 1:45:35Speaker 7: know just isn't the slam dunk it that Gonzales or Banks.
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: Or Macro is up there. Gushing about the cornerback class
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: last week, he said that there's gonna be a couple
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: of corners on Sauces level like that high up in
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: the in the draft. You know, I'm sure he's talking
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: about like Witherspoon and Gonzales, but.
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: I've heard that there's a lot of good players in
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: that position that you're gonna They're gonna be really good
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: players in the lower round too.
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: I think you're drafting startable corners into Day three.
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean, I think you could talk yourself
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: either way like Mike's Mike's theory or you know, like
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: that you know, the tackle theory, because if you I
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: think it's the same at all positions. If you want
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: a guy to plug and play, you need to take
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: him in the first round. Now you have to decide,
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: is Broderick Jones or Paris Johnson and Peter Scronsky a
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: better player than Banks or Porter or whoever you Because
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: I'm assuming my dream of Gonzales and with you know,
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: everybody has Witherspoon and Gonzales in the top ten. I'm
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: assuming they're gone. So now you're talking about Porter or
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: who Banks? Your guy? Right?
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: Yeah? We like Banks. We like Banks, not as big
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: on Porter as I was talking about all the great
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: quarterbacks to the AFC East. Now David and Bethlehem says,
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: what is the kryptonite for them defensive ends? Let's forget
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: O line prudence and draft a game wrecker. Please tell
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: us who we should draft in that.
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: Case, ty w of course he could be off the board.
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: I picked two.
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: But if he's not, you can read my mock draft
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: and I'll show you how the Patriots can get him.
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: Find out there you go.
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: Kryptonite though, yeahing, Aaron Rodgers won how many MVPs no
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: one had a defensive end.
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: I guess to be fair, though, every single quarterback, whether
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: it's Aaron Rodgers or it's Patrick Mahomes, when you put
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: pressure on him, they play worse like that's just the
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: that's the bottom line, no doubt, And now you need
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: to have guys that can cover for at least a
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: little bit to get that. Let the rush get there
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: and all marries up. As Bill likes to say, but
- 1:47:34Speaker 5: there's an argument there to be made that if they
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: added Tyree Wilson to Judan and Ouch and Barmore and
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: Dietrich U like, now they have this elite front that
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: can get after Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: Yep, I mean I set up before, what does this
- 1:47:49Speaker 7: defense look like without Matthew Judon.
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: I just think the drop off and the change that's
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: required if that guy got hurt, it's it's the.
- 1:47:55Speaker 7: Falloff will be humongous. And neither of those other guys
- 1:47:58Speaker 7: are three down guys. I I could totally see them
- 1:48:01Speaker 7: trying to take a three down defensive end edge guy
- 1:48:03Speaker 7: makes it makes a lot of sense.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: Caleb wrights In been wanting to make this point for
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: a while that I think gets overlooked a lot of
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: the by the loud minority of our fan base. I know,
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: the last couple of years we've been seeing teams around
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: the AFC and the whole AFC East catch up and
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: pass us by far in terms of playmakers and talent.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: I think it is often overlooked that the Bills, Jets,
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: and Dolphins, along with others around the AFC are in
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: their competitive position because they absolutely sucked for ten years
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: or more. Especially the teams in the AFC East have
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: only just now been able to field good teams after
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: years of top ten after top ten pick, multiple top
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: ten picks for the Jets, which landed them Sauce and Wilson.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: I get it. Bill has whiffed in the draft in
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: years of late, but we also have won three Super
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: Bowls and have been to five since twenty eleven. People,
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: while we are rebuilding, every AFC East team are exhausting
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: their means to win it all now, and you can
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: only have one Super Bowl winner every season. So I
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: guess this point is that they've been drafting high for
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: a long time and we haven't.
- 1:49:09Speaker 7: That's fine, and there's definitely truth to some of those
- 1:49:12Speaker 7: players that the other teams have had opportunities to play,
- 1:49:14Speaker 7: but they've also you know, made other selections like you know,
- 1:49:18Speaker 7: Matt Malano or you know, other picks that they've hit
- 1:49:22Speaker 7: on that weren't necessarily even those top round picks that
- 1:49:24Speaker 7: have been successful. And I mean the Patriots are now
- 1:49:27Speaker 7: what going on four years, haven't won a playoff game,
- 1:49:29Speaker 7: haven't made the playoffs in two of the last three years.
- 1:49:31Speaker 7: If if you know still telling you, hey, they've been
- 1:49:33Speaker 7: to five Super Bowls each year, it gets more and
- 1:49:35Speaker 7: more like it's not going in a good direction right now.
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: The Bills I sort of bristle at the whole, like, well,
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: you've got to be up to The Bills made what
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: I don't what I think is a very underrated move.
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: I don't think people understand the risk that they took
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: to get up and get Josh Allen, Like they didn't
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: luck into the fourth overall pick, and they were they
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: would terrible in the right year, and got the stud first.
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: There was nowhere near a consensus on Josh Allen coming
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: out second. They went from I believe twenty seven to
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: ten or something like that. They went from the twenties
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: to like ten to get Josh Allen, so a guy
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: that not everybody was good. They didn't do that to
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: get Andrew Luck. They did that to get a guy
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: that not everybody was sold on. And they were right
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: and that's why the Bills are what they are right now.
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: Like you can talk about they picked in the top ten, well,
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: they were in the playoffs in seventeen, nineteen, twenty, twenty one,
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: twenty two. Like this is not like, oh, they got
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: good last year because they had ten years of first rumpet,
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: you know, top ten picks. That ain't it. They've they've
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: gotten good because they've nailed a quarterback pick that not
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: everybody would have done. And I'll be completely honest, I
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: would have done that. I wasn't sold on Josh Allen
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: coming out like that. I was intrigued by the skill set,
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: but would you have trade it up? No? I think
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: they made two trades actually to do it. I don't
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: have the numbers in front of me, but I think
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: they to go from the twenties to ten to get
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: Josh Allen, which I don't think a lot of gms
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: would have done. Well.
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: The Chiefs did the same thing for Patrick Mahomes, And
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: I think that this is to you know the email,
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: and I'm right there with you, not top ten picks.
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: The Patriots also just don't think that way, right, The
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: Patriots don't think that way. They don't do it that way,
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: and for better or worse, it hasn't really worked out
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: the way that they do things. The trade down and
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: draft cole strained strategy hasn't really panned out for them
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: now that the Bills they traded all the way up
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: to draft Josh Allen, then they traded a first round
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: pick for Stefan Diggs. These are moves that the Patriots
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: have not made, and it will not make.
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: If it works for the Jets. That's an example of
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: what the email is talking about. The Jets have had
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: several years of ineptitude, several top ten picks. They finally,
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: I mean, they've hit on a lot of them, and
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: if they have the quarterback now, they'll probably see, you know,
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: some success. Yes, that's an example of that they got
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: good because they were so bad. But I don't necessarily
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: think the Bills are good right now because they were bad.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: You know in twenty fourteen fifteen, you know, in that
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: era or Kansas City, they also were going to the
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: playoffs with Tyrod Taylor, much like Kansas City that haven't
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: just mentioned was going to the playoffs every year with
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: Alex Smith. They got to a different level when they
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: got the stud at quarterback.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: So Alex says, because Paul is a crazy memory, I
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: wanted to challenge him to see if he could recall
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: drewp LED's those four touchdown performance against the Chargers, name
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: how each touchdown pass was scored either by how many
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: yards or by who?
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: What do you dance for us? Monkey?
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: Wait, First of all, that's a little bit even for me,
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: that's a little ridiculous. Really we're talking about.
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: This would be right on the tip of your tongue.
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: Well, I need more information. Can I know what Charger
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: game we're talking about?
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: It was the game they won forty one to seven.
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: Okay? Is this at home or on the road?
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: It was probably the one No?
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: Six? It was away ninety six, Okay. The ones that
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: stands out to me is a one handed catch by
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: Terry Glenn on a ball that just proving that I
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: am I am nothing but fair. Then drew through a
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: terrible ball, so Terry Glenn reached back. One of them
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: wasn't one way and he caught it.
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: Yeah, one was a twenty five yard pass to Terry Glenn.
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: I got nothing else for you. I assume one was
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: to Ben Coats.
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: But yeah, Ben COT's four yard pass and then twelve
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: yard passed to Sam Gash and a two yard passed
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: to Keith Buyers.
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: Okay, wow, and I.
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: Was at fullbacks get that was?
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: That was thanksgivings the h back.
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: How could Terry Glenn do that when Bill Parcells didn't
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: get the draft them.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: I don't know. That was one handed catch by Glenn
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: and he never made another play. Someone was right about him.
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: His name was Bill Pushall.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: Terry Glenn never made another play.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: Terry Glenn was a colossal disappointment. That's a little harsh.
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: He broke the rookie record for with catches.
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: Colossal disappointed, the rookie record for quarterback play true.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: Baker Mayfield, No, but he wasn't a disappointment that homework.
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: It's just like who cares who cut the most. Overall,
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: he didn't have a great career. Oh No, he was
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: a waste of talent.
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: He was a waste to tell but that he had
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: a great year that year he did.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and Bill knew what the flags were.
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: Overall, he wasn't He wasn't uh disappointment.
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: He was a good player. Oh. I loved Terry Gwinn absolutely,
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: but he was not what he was supposed.
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: To be No, he could have been so much better now.
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: He never got back to ninety, never.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Reached that potential, but he was always out of the
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: lineup because it wasn't that important to him.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Bill knew a lot of issues. R I p a
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: lot of issues. That's right, Peter writes in Can't Wait
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: for the Draft shows, he died, gott he died. As
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: others have said, they are my favorite shows, so we
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: get so much content. I enjoyed Eric getting upset and
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: then shutting down, but when Paul was not sold on.
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: Solder Evan will be ready to shut it down.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: I enjoyed Mike's absolute disappearance from the first draft show.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: I don't know that he liked that. I was just
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: watching even tomorrow from last year, having so many chances
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: for the team to pick her guys and they never did.
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: I'm a bit of a weirdo and wait to listen
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: to the podcast the day after. I checked to see
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: who the Patriot's a picked. Usually it's someone terrible or unexpected.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: There is nothing better than hearing the disappointment in all
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: of you guys where the pick is made, then some
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: of you managed to pretend you're happy about the pick.
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: I won't say who can't wait.
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: My favorite draft tradition is Fred's disappointment followed by the
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: next night excitement.
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: Well then I go home and I, you know, do
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: my and then I come back and I tell you
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: why it.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: Was a good checks.
- 1:55:57Speaker 5: Please don't tell me that. Please don't tell me you
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: talk yourself into cal strange.
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: He had a hard time with that. Yeah, no, we
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: gotta draw the line.
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: Yeah no, no, I still say that I don't mind
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: them taking a guard because they need one. But not there,
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: not there. You could have had him later or someone
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: of his Yeah, John, and Denver writes in time is
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: it because we got Catch twenty two coming up right
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: Tuesday Special Tuesday edition of Catch twenty two. I flipped
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: back and forth on if the Patriot should draft Levis.
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: At first I thought he was a second t bow
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: and wanted no part of him. Then I wanted him
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: when I remembered that scene from Moneyball where one of
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: the scouts at the roundtable says a player can't be
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: good because his girlfriend is six is a six at best,
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: and that proves he has no confidence. If you follow
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: this line of thinking, Will has all the confidence in
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: the world and gonna hot girlfriend. But I recently learned
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: Will Levis eats bananas without peeling them, money and puts
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: mayo in his coffee. Certified psychopath, and I want nothing
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: to do with that level of crazy.
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: Finally, that's the exact kind of crazy that makes people.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: I heard about that and coffee and just eat the skin.
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: And all, and Tom Brady ate avocado ice cream. They're
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: all a little crazy.
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: Finally, the NFL Twitter account posted a photo of his
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: physical transformation, and I had deuced Derek Henry. I had
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: aduced Derek Henry moment, and his stature is insane. In
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: the end, I have no idea what to think about
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: looking forward to the always great draft shows. Thanks for
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: the great shows, but looking forward to more off season
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: talk coming soon.
- 1:57:37Speaker 7: Okay, great, I mean I don't want to build it
- 1:57:40Speaker 7: up too much, but I think that this one.
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: I think this potential they could get dark. We could
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: be in a dark place.
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: Potential.
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: Let's remember you're on live radio.
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: That's being fed directly into the Patrio's drafts.
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: Well, good for you. That will be off video by
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: that time.
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: So yeah, because then I can like give myself a
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: second to collect myself self if it's really as bad
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: as it might be. And then like you guys can talk,
- 1:58:04Speaker 5: you know, and give your reactions and then I'll collect it.
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: Is it too late to effort? And Evan iso Cam
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: maybe we get like that they just that like you know,
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: the slow zoom speeds of sweat.
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: But the thing is is I really mean that I
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: do it out of love, like because I want them
- 1:58:19Speaker 5: to be good, and so when they do stuff that
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: I can't get behind, then that it's disappointment.
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: It's that's true like that. I think that was Eric's
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: big problem because I think Eric would morph back into
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: like twelve year old Eric. Yeah and yeah, really be excited, and.
- 1:58:35Speaker 5: That's what the draft brings out of it more so
- 1:58:37Speaker 5: than this will be disappointment.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: And I really think that was part of Eric's anger.
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: But to me, it was just it was laughable because
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: if there's one person who really shouldn't be second guessing anybody.
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: It's Eric.
- 1:58:54Speaker 2: You know, I really a guard.
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: Oh that was such an unnecessary shot that I would
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: just been.
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: But I like Evan at least he puts the work in.
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: You know, he's working tirelessly, so he has informed opinion.
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: You know, But that's what makes it. That's all on
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: the radio.
- 1:59:16Speaker 5: I agree with the most of that, except that he's
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: lost my trust.
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm sure he's lost sleep with that.
- 1:59:26Speaker 5: He probably hasn't but talked to me when he hits
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: on a first round.
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: Paying I could just see all access. So behind the
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: scenes in the Patriots war room. And so what's our
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: kids saying? We'll take care.
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: Might be right every once in a while.
