Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, Hello, Hi, how are you mat?
- 0:06Speaker 2: I just came from the outside wave.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Oh really yeah, so it's quite fresh. So you're in
- 0:18Speaker 3: Where are you in Germany at the moment?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, so I just came back from Belgium, yeah,
- 0:24Speaker 2: which was even hotter. But now it's coming to the
- 0:30Speaker 2: heat wave to Germany and it's the whole week will
- 0:34Speaker 2: be around forty degrees.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I heard. I think was London. It's
- 0:37Speaker 1: going to be the same. It's the reaching like forty degrees,
- 0:41Speaker 1: which is insane.
- 0:42Speaker 2: On stage, it was not healthy. Let me say that.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I can imagine it would be under those lights. It
- 0:51Speaker 1: would have been absolute help. Sorry every time somewhere over here.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was for us. It was the worst spots.
- 1:02Speaker 2: It was a great spot, it's like for a lot
- 1:04Speaker 2: of people. But the sun was in really in the peak,
- 1:10Speaker 2: shining on the stage. So even the most fittest men
- 1:17Speaker 2: were struggling and dizzy.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, so well you just power Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So that was just recently, was it that you had
- 1:30Speaker 1: played a gig that you are suffered underneath?
- 1:34Speaker 3: It's those lights are.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Saturday. It was but a great festival, great bands.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they have this festivals in summertime, and so
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'm just gonna pop this up a bit high. And
- 1:49Speaker 1: it's it's at peak time, you know, like peak heat.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And it's not only that, like playing, You've got the
- 1:54Speaker 1: crowds too that are just sweltering and you think, yeah, they.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Had that big, big wind machines all the crowd.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Oh okay, interestingly.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Blowing some some water into the people.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, I haven't actually seen that yet at a festival,
- 2:09Speaker 1: mind you. There's it's I wonder that we haven't adopted
- 2:13Speaker 1: something like that over here. It's crazy, but yeah, it's been. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I've my misspent youth growing up in summer festivals and
- 2:21Speaker 1: it's there the done thing.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, but sometimes it's it's fifteen degrees in raining.
- 2:27Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, the humidities.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You never know and take it as it is and
- 2:32Speaker 2: try to do the best for sure.
- 2:35Speaker 3: For sure.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So you've had some exciting stuff happened recently. You've dropped
- 2:40Speaker 1: some new music with your other projects, So tell me
- 2:45Speaker 1: a bit about that and tell listeners what's been happening there.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Well that was my first band, okay, yep, And
- 2:56Speaker 2: I never said it's all but during the last years,
- 3:04Speaker 2: so the time I had to spend with the Primal
- 3:08Speaker 2: Fear was getting more and more and more and more,
- 3:12Speaker 2: so that that my time for Sinno was for me
- 3:19Speaker 2: not satisfying enough to do it right m hm. So
- 3:25Speaker 2: I would say never say never. But I did this
- 3:27Speaker 2: last album. It wasn't planned, but sometimes it is like
- 3:33Speaker 2: it is.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, sometimes I have.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Some ideas and I want to do a different kind
- 3:39Speaker 2: of music than Primal Fear, more hard rock and were
- 3:44Speaker 2: the roots of the band. And then I started to
- 3:49Speaker 2: write and so I thought the songs are too good
- 3:55Speaker 2: to leave it on my own hard disk. Yes, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: I think it was good enough to do an album.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And then I asked some people to enjoin me. The
- 4:10Speaker 2: response was fantastic, so I couldn't step back. And then
- 4:19Speaker 2: we started to arrange it and recorded it and it's
- 4:24Speaker 2: getting more and more clear and clear. And as I
- 4:31Speaker 2: was ready to sing the songs in the studio, I
- 4:35Speaker 2: had the idea, just to make it even more interesting,
- 4:38Speaker 2: to ask about some friends to join me on the vocals,
- 4:43Speaker 2: because to make it even more special. But they had
- 4:50Speaker 2: to be friends which I worked in the past together. Yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 2: I don't want anybody involved too. I never talked to
- 5:00Speaker 2: was something only because they're good singers. There are a
- 5:04Speaker 2: lot of good singers around there, but I want to
- 5:06Speaker 2: have people who were loyal to me in the past
- 5:09Speaker 2: twenty years and getting good friends, and that was the
- 5:13Speaker 2: most important thing for me and the people. Even then,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I was super and they all was totally motivated, and
- 5:25Speaker 2: as I received the first tracks from the guys, I
- 5:33Speaker 2: was I was really touched because as I started that album,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I didn't expect anything. Yeah, yeah, and then I got this,
- 5:46Speaker 2: which makes me totally happy and I felt good that
- 5:50Speaker 2: I did it.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah, excellent, excellent, And so was it some time in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the making. As you mentioned that You've was your original
- 5:58Speaker 1: project that you had developed over the time and just
- 6:00Speaker 1: had on the back burner.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Well, to be honest, I started writing the songs in November. Okay, wow,
- 6:09Speaker 2: so that's another lot of time in between. So that
- 6:13Speaker 2: was fast boom boom boom, boom boom, and everything worked
- 6:17Speaker 2: out great.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I had the.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Best German drama nice and I did with him some
- 6:28Speaker 4: tours before and he's an absolutely sweet.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Guy, but coming from very different kind of music. He's
- 6:36Speaker 2: more that that session drama, disco funk jazz. But I
- 6:45Speaker 2: know that he can play that stuff and he did
- 6:48Speaker 2: a great job. And the main guitars is were played
- 6:54Speaker 2: by Alex Chobo is with me in in that band
- 6:59Speaker 2: for fee years and mainly he's the guitarist of Darja Okay,
- 7:07Speaker 2: former nightry singer. That's his main job. But he's living
- 7:10Speaker 2: in the same city with friends and we did this together.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Nice, nice, and it's all come about and fell into place.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And I think when things happen like that, it's you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: it's meant to be. It's you're on that right path
- 7:24Speaker 1: and it falls in place and music just comes quickly.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Whereas you know, you can spend years and months and
- 7:30Speaker 1: months on some projects and it still doesn't quite fit
- 7:33Speaker 1: and you just release it for the sake of doing it.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Sometimes absolutely and in the end, for a musician, it's
- 7:44Speaker 2: the best motivation if you have the final result in
- 7:52Speaker 2: front of you and you can listen to that and say, well,
- 7:56Speaker 2: I'm proud of it.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 1: It's a pretty awesome feeling, isn't it when you actually
- 8:02Speaker 1: enjoy your own work and you.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Go that's absolutely yeah. Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And so, as you mentioned, you're most well known for
- 8:08Speaker 1: being there in Primal Fear and playing doing vocals and
- 8:14Speaker 1: playing bass.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Is that right? I get that right?
- 8:16Speaker 1: Excellent, me too, I'm play bass. So the best full strings,
- 8:22Speaker 1: that's all you need.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Tomorrow then you Sinner's single released, so you see, yes, yeah,
- 8:29Speaker 2: so it's just about YouTube. Yeah, the new single will
- 8:33Speaker 2: be released in a great video.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I gave it a bit of a sneaky listen, which
- 8:37Speaker 1: was it was pretty impressive. While I didn't mind the art,
- 8:40Speaker 1: it's pretty pretty tasty. Some of those riffs, I must admit,
- 8:44Speaker 1: so yeah, yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But it's all yours. So tomorrow is the video.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, well let's do it.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You know, once it's out there and you can stream
- 8:53Speaker 1: it on anything. So we get a bit of a
- 8:55Speaker 1: sneak peek listen before we had the interviews.
- 8:58Speaker 2: So I got to please, I hate this. If I
- 9:02Speaker 2: talk to somebody, I couldn't listen to the album so far,
- 9:05Speaker 2: but I heard good things.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, fuck yeah, listen to it, but I don't listen
- 9:11Speaker 3: to it.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So don't call me.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah listen, yees No, it's sounds and that's it. It's
- 9:18Speaker 1: like you say, it sound good when you can be
- 9:19Speaker 1: proud of your work and and you you know that's
- 9:22Speaker 1: going into it.
- 9:23Speaker 3: It's been worthwhile.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So so is this going to be the last sort
- 9:27Speaker 1: of music that you are doing with Sinner and then
- 9:31Speaker 1: but your focus is going to be after that, is
- 9:32Speaker 1: it I'm going to go back to Primal Fear or
- 9:34Speaker 1: what's your.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We're already doing festivals with Primal Fear.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Then we're doing a little tour and in Europe just
- 9:43Speaker 2: to end the the Domination album YEP ended in a
- 9:50Speaker 2: good way, and then we record a new Primal Fear
- 9:53Speaker 2: album nice and next year it will be the thirtieth anniversary.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Of that band.
- 10:04Speaker 2: The time is flying yeah, and uh yeah, the album
- 10:10Speaker 2: will be coming out. We in in Nothink at the
- 10:15Speaker 2: end of April next we're doing again, already confirmed some
- 10:22Speaker 2: great festivals.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Of course, of course, any plans to come down on.
- 10:30Speaker 2: It, No, it's such a long way.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It is really.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Last time we were there, we were there with both bands.
- 10:38Speaker 2: We were there with Pramafere and with Sinner playing a
- 10:42Speaker 2: double concerto, and we did first play three shows in Japan. Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and then we got the offer from Australia. Let me say, well,
- 10:52Speaker 2: that's that's close. Yeah, well yeah, let's do that. It
- 10:58Speaker 2: was not close.
- 11:00Speaker 3: It's a few hours on the flane, but it's closer
- 11:03Speaker 3: than Germany.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And the flying back was oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Wasn't that much fun A lot of time.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't think if you're if you're if your ass
- 11:15Speaker 2: is hurting, it's not such a lot of fun.
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's twenty something hours. It's a bit of a it's
- 11:22Speaker 1: a bit of a hard one. A layover as well.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It's when I was for the first time in China. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 2: because we have to get the plane down and get
- 11:38Speaker 2: another plane. And yeah, for me it was like in Beijing,
- 11:44Speaker 2: it was like whoa, whoa. That was an experience.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Really.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I was very proud to have a picture in front
- 11:54Speaker 2: of the opera hours in Sydney. Yeah, sure, but our
- 11:57Speaker 2: faces were deranged.
- 12:01Speaker 3: It was that planned.
- 12:01Speaker 2: There was a different planets. You know. We have that
- 12:05Speaker 2: nice picture, but.
- 12:08Speaker 3: It sounds like most of my photos. I have taken
- 12:10Speaker 3: the tongue out. I'm gonna look prett.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna look like we had the picture.
- 12:17Speaker 3: But I think that's just part of the metal.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Still. We didn't didn't know where we are. The argument
- 12:24Speaker 2: to go to Japan and then to Australia because it's
- 12:27Speaker 2: it's closed, or it's stupid, it's not right but let's
- 12:32Speaker 2: see you never know.
- 12:35Speaker 3: What happened. Yeah, no, you've definitely got a good fan
- 12:38Speaker 3: based down on you are.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Australia is a country we love.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys are epics.
- 12:44Speaker 2: It's different. But let's talk about music.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yes, music, Music is music is the universal language.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's the best. So so soon as
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's your last last album for the group, which is
- 13:01Speaker 1: kind of a it must be a bit bit of
- 13:02Speaker 1: sweet in some way, and your first group, but certainly
- 13:06Speaker 1: not your your last last you are. We'll have a
- 13:10Speaker 1: bit of a thing here at Heavy at the moment,
- 13:11Speaker 1: we've been asking out artists that we interview. When you
- 13:15Speaker 1: remember the first time that you heard yourself playing on
- 13:17Speaker 1: like radio? Do you remember when that was for yourself?
- 13:21Speaker 1: I can't remember, vague memories.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I remember a lot, but not that.
- 13:32Speaker 3: What about the first gig that you did like as
- 13:34Speaker 3: a you know, as you're as.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The band Young Crazy Chaos, Not much still the same, No,
- 13:49Speaker 2: it's a lot more professional.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yeah of course. Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Great crew, Yeah, great tour manager. Yeah, very a very great,
- 14:03Speaker 2: high quality band who is very friendly with each other. Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 2: We got always a good time, a lot of laughing
- 14:13Speaker 2: and and we love our music. So yeah, this is
- 14:17Speaker 2: this is now a totally different, more enjoyable Yeah, and
- 14:21Speaker 2: the crazy days I can imagine.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's you're a little bit old, a little bit wiser,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and you know how to have fun still without getting
- 14:30Speaker 1: absolutely sideways.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I don't take drugs pret alcohol since six years. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 2: since six years. I'm sober.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Wow, congratulations, And.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I am enjoying life.
- 14:48Speaker 3: That's awesome. That's so awesome.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I don't need all that ship just to be a
- 14:52Speaker 2: different person. I am who I am, and that's it.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That's it, that's it.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It's always nice when you get to a point, I
- 15:00Speaker 1: know with myself, you can go out and have one
- 15:02Speaker 1: or two drinks. You don't have to get you know, wasted,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and still have just as good a time and come
- 15:07Speaker 1: home in a respectable state and know hangover the next morning,
- 15:10Speaker 1: and it's so much more enjoyable, and especially when you're.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Playing exactly, I had enough hangovers in my life stuff that.
- 15:20Speaker 1: You no, I'd much rather, I think for me, like
- 15:22Speaker 1: being female, it's about being in control, so like, because
- 15:25Speaker 1: you know, there's some unsafe things that happen as a
- 15:28Speaker 1: a you know, just everywhere these days, and so having
- 15:31Speaker 1: that control and you know, not being inhibriated is very important.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And yeah, it's absolutely the right way for me personally,
- 15:41Speaker 2: anyone I don't need it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: No, No, So you guys all get along, which is
- 15:48Speaker 1: always nice. So I always say that you're being in
- 15:50Speaker 1: a band's kind of like being in a bad marriage
- 15:52Speaker 1: sometimes with four or five different other people. But if
- 15:54Speaker 1: you guys will get along, and like you say, it's
- 15:56Speaker 1: the key to longevity is you know, staying consistent, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's doing.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Other times were where there was silence in the dressing room. Yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 2: where the people don't talk to each other, we're grumpy.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But now it's very different.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, you know that's nice.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's nice to hear, and I'm very happy about that.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you can put up with forty odd degree sweltering
- 16:19Speaker 1: days on stage without wanting to tear each other's happy.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Nice. But it's getting too hot. Yeah, Oh I just
- 16:29Speaker 2: try to hide in my house. Yeah, but even then
- 16:33Speaker 2: got thick walls, relool cool stone, but not yet.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know it's some It's like houses over
- 16:42Speaker 1: here that then made to keep cool, not made to
- 16:45Speaker 1: keep warm. But sometimes you know they're they're neither here
- 16:48Speaker 1: nor there, and so like if they don't have a conditioning.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You can get ridiculously hot in summertime it's quite unbearable,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and then freezing cold and winter in Australia, I leave
- 16:59Speaker 1: close to prison and so just south of the Queen's
- 17:02Speaker 1: Land needs at last border on the beach. So I'm
- 17:04Speaker 1: not complaining Ninbyron Bay.
- 17:06Speaker 2: So you sharks.
- 17:09Speaker 1: When I moved here, there was literally two attacks, like
- 17:12Speaker 1: in the first month straight across the beaches, across the
- 17:15Speaker 1: road right there.
- 17:16Speaker 3: At the little bay.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And I'm like, shit, you know, I love the beach,
- 17:20Speaker 1: but yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:23Speaker 3: I was talking to a friend of saying about, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 3: snack You know, I hate snakes. You know they're not good.
- 17:28Speaker 1: But you know, there's far more paycounters of people being
- 17:32Speaker 1: bitten by sharks and there are bitten bitten by you
- 17:34Speaker 1: venomous snakes here. And I said, I'm like, but why
- 17:37Speaker 1: why do we fear it so much more? And I
- 17:39Speaker 1: think it's because, you know, we can choose to not
- 17:42Speaker 1: go in the beach and not you know, tend to
- 17:44Speaker 1: the sharks. But with a snake that you can just
- 17:46Speaker 1: be doing your own thing and like you could potentially,
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know, get bit and I'm like, that.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Must be what it is.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So, yeah, we find those fucking snakes down at the
- 17:54Speaker 1: beach even here, they're crazy.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Everything wants to kill you.
- 17:57Speaker 2: When it's just see this.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Then he passed, I know, one of the ones that
- 18:04Speaker 1: attack that happened. It was a young teenage boy and
- 18:07Speaker 1: he with the shark literally chased him into the shallows
- 18:10Speaker 1: all the way in.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It's that was after he'd been bit in the first time. Crazy,
- 18:15Speaker 3: I know, right, So I just paddling the shallows.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Fair enough, they don't have legs.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Yes, that's it, that's it.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But no, it's I'm very very blessedly where I live
- 18:27Speaker 1: over here, it's it's lovely, and yeah, we we have
- 18:30Speaker 1: our awesome you know summer festivals too, of the shred
- 18:34Speaker 1: fest and there's a whole bunch of them that happens
- 18:37Speaker 1: later in the year and actually all throughout the year.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So you have plenty of chance to get on one
- 18:42Speaker 1: of those festival lineups and come down under or maybe
- 18:45Speaker 1: a headline act. That would be nice because from a
- 18:48Speaker 1: fear is also like, you guys are literally legendary. I
- 18:52Speaker 1: feel very blessed to be able to chat with yourself
- 18:54Speaker 1: this evening. So it's yeah, this evening. It's the afternoon
- 18:57Speaker 1: over there, I think, isn't it?
- 18:59Speaker 3: Is it early afternoon for yourself?
- 19:01Speaker 2: I have one thirty.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Okay, yeah it's nine.
- 19:06Speaker 1: That must be nine thirty here, so yes, well, look,
- 19:09Speaker 1: thank you so much in coming and having a chat
- 19:11Speaker 1: with us today of this evening at Heavy Matt. We
- 19:15Speaker 1: are very blessed to be able to speak with yourself
- 19:18Speaker 1: and listeners and can look forward to your new album.
- 19:21Speaker 1: What is the official release date for this reason album?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Thirty first of July.
- 19:26Speaker 3: There you go, thirty first of July. So you're a
- 19:28Speaker 3: little bit of a wait for everybody else. So in
- 19:30Speaker 3: the meantime, Tomorral new single, yeah yeah, when.
- 19:34Speaker 1: New singles out, that's right, yeah, video, yeah, So give it,
- 19:38Speaker 1: give it a listen, give it a follow, and give
- 19:39Speaker 1: it some love and hopefully we'll see you guys soon
- 19:44Speaker 1: down under. And were either doing some of the Sine
- 19:48Speaker 1: stuff or all with the new Primal Fear, which is
