- 0:07Welcome back to another edition of the Just in Time podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host, Justin, and with me is Will Baseball Today.
- 0:17Well, I have no waiting for this only.
- 0:19Waiting for opening weekend ain't nothing like it.
- 0:23I was I was shocked when I went because so I didn't get off
- 0:27until 2:30 on Friday. So I had to watch it from work,
- 0:31and when I pulled it up, I was shocked at how many people were
- 0:35at the box on Friday afternoon. Yeah, at 2:00.
- 0:41Yeah, that's why he does well, we love it, brother.
- 0:45Yeah, I know. I was even more shocked when I
- 0:47showed up on Saturday and the amount of people were, you know,
- 0:53it had a smaller amount of people.
- 0:56I was a little shocked. OK, that's what I mean.
- 1:00But I guess it is. I guess it is Mardi Gras and it
- 1:04was Valentine's Day. Tell you what, I'm starting
- 1:08busy. Busy for us, I'll just put it
- 1:09that way. And calmed her.
- 1:12So look, before we, before we really get into it, I'm going to
- 1:15apologize for my voice. I've been fighting a little
- 1:19cold, cold up, you know, just cold up until now.
- 1:24So I sound terrible. The doctor, I've been fighting
- 1:27this since Sunday. The doctors, it's the doctor's
- 1:29fault. They didn't give me the right
- 1:30stuff to get me right. But any takeaways from this
- 1:34weekend? You know, the the simple, you
- 1:38know, just typically you don't get a lot, you don't gain a lot
- 1:41from the opening, the opening days of the season.
- 1:43But I will give a shout out quickly to Milwaukee.
- 1:47Just like it's not a typical, you know, the typical cupcake
- 1:50opponent. They really gave us a fight, you
- 1:53know, relative to like the difference in competition.
- 1:56You know, we we trailed it two of the three games and even in
- 2:00the even though in the game two we won wire to wire, we would
- 2:03lead the whole way through. You know, they still had the tie
- 2:05and run on at like on base in the top of the night.
- 2:08So there's a quick shout out today.
- 2:10You know, we had talked about them briefly before the season,
- 2:13you know, obviously just, you know, Amsterdam that had the SA
- 2:17pyramid appearance in a while, but you know, they've had some
- 2:20really decent teams over the over the years.
- 2:23So just give him a quick shout out.
- 2:24But the assurance of the the performance for us, you know,
- 2:28offense, obviously just explosive.
- 2:30You know, I was very pleased to see that large.
- 2:32And then even with this, despite the storm starting Game 1, you
- 2:36know, pitching, pitching was, you know, productive but could
- 2:39be more efficient. I will say this, for a team that
- 2:43has only pride has I don't even think they practice outdoors
- 2:46until they came to Baton Rouge. Milwaukee put up a great fight
- 2:51that was great, 3 great games. You know, they've sat in there
- 2:55and they fought. They had a really good offensive
- 2:58approach. Yeah, for.
- 3:01Sure, Tim State had a really good offensive approach to get
- 3:03in there early and hunt fastballs.
- 3:06Yeah. But my take away from us is the
- 3:10versatility. There wasn't a single guy that
- 3:15we put in that didn't have either a competitive at bat,
- 3:20throw some competitive pitches. You know, like we've had 3-4
- 3:27different left fielders this week in four games because we
- 3:30were fighting an injury, early season injury.
- 3:33Chris Stanfield slid in the home on Saturday and bruised his hand
- 3:38so they've been taking they've been leaving him out as a
- 3:40precaution until the swelling goes down.
- 3:42I don't know if he'll play today or not but but it was good to
- 3:45see Gavin Guidry back picking up where he left off.
- 3:47Yes, absolutely. Man, yeah, but let's get into
- 3:50the breakdown we've got. For starters, on game one, we
- 3:54had Evans lead us off against. I think that's Mueller for them.
- 3:59Batting order was Stanfield, Curio, Milam Brown, York, Aaron
- 4:06Beatty, Braun, Simpson, Caraway. For us, you know, we got off to
- 4:12a little bit of a slow start offensively, Curio got a great
- 4:17single in my opinion. I don't know if I like that.
- 4:20Head first slide by Curio on the first game of the season, first
- 4:24game of the season, first ending of the season.
- 4:26I don't know if I like that. Yeah, let's, you know, think
- 4:28about just at least the starter games, you know, this, it's a
- 4:32great time. It's the best time to
- 4:33experiment, you know, Obviously, you know, I was talking to see
- 4:36that well, but just like I said, you know, I do trust as a time
- 4:40national champion coach, but not long, you know, I'm just here
- 4:45you see how they go and continue to play with it.
- 4:47Yeah, I mean, the only thing I don't like about it is we've in
- 4:51the past with like a Tommy White type of deal.
- 4:54Tommy White's first season here in 23 slid back in, you know,
- 5:00popped his shoulder. Remember that and then he played
- 5:04all summer, all season with a bum shoulder.
- 5:06Just Jacob Barry, Jay Johnson's first year he was here, got
- 5:11injured right away, shoulder injury.
- 5:14I mean, I'm just not a huge fan on that.
- 5:17That's very mid late season type of when you get into the nitty
- 5:20gritty type of play, you know, but getting into the first
- 5:25inning, top of the first, you know, Evans comes in.
- 5:29That was the first pitch strike, which I like.
- 5:32I think that we had a bunch of first pitch strikes, but you
- 5:36know, he gets O'Connell striking out swinging.
- 5:39Then Kibler comes up and he walks in on five pitches.
- 5:45Then Ross comes up, he's flyed out to centerfield, Marion
- 5:49singled and then been struck out to in the inning.
- 5:55Overall, I didn't think Evans did a bad job the first inning.
- 6:01But yeah, all about good. Yeah, he started off hot.
- 6:04Then we have for us in the bottom of the first.
- 6:07Stanfield flyed out to right. We made good contact all
- 6:12weekend. We made good contact.
- 6:13The wind didn't play to our advantage, but we made good
- 6:18contact. Here we go, curious.
- 6:21Single to single to first base. That's the play that I'm not
- 6:23really big. Wasn't really big one because he
- 6:26slid there. You know, I'm not a big fan of
- 6:29the sliding that head first on in the first base at any point
- 6:35in the season. Especially not not.
- 6:38Conference. Yeah, not, not in conference,
- 6:41you know, not in conference. First game of the season.
- 6:43Like I said to me, if you're going to do that, that's very
- 6:46late season. Yeah.
- 6:49But then you got Milan, you got 1 fouled out to first base and
- 6:54then Brown grounded out to in that inning.
- 6:56So that's the end of the first inning.
- 6:58We come back. Look, Evans, I don't know where
- 7:01we went wrong on Friday, but he gave up a lead off single to for
- 7:06the top of the second, then struck Schmidt, Holmes and Ellis
- 7:10out back-to-back to back. And here's where I'm kind of
- 7:13ticked off that I shut the game down 5 minutes early before we
- 7:16walked out of there. Oh look, that zoom came in the.
- 7:20Came in perfect time. Zach York hit a straight bomb to
- 7:26right field. To make the game.
- 7:27One and nothing. Yes, yes.
- 7:30Then Aaron BD singled through the left side.
- 7:34Aaron BD, that's the name you're going to hear a lot with these
- 7:37is Aaron BD these first couple games?
- 7:41Absolutely. He advanced the second Bronze
- 7:43struck out since he struck out and Caraway popped out.
- 7:48So you know, overall 2nd inning wasn't that bad.
- 7:52Now we go to the top of the third.
- 7:55O'Connell walked, Kibbler Fried flied out to left field, Ross
- 8:02struck out swinging and O'Connell stole second base.
- 8:05Jay Johnson gave me a break because he challenged it and it
- 8:08made me only missed the third inning.
- 8:12No, seriously, like I only missed the third inning because
- 8:14Jay Johnson decided to challenge on a play that they said was
- 8:19clearly safe. The call was upheld and then
- 8:22Marion struck out swinging. So we go to the bottom of the
- 8:25third and Stanfield walks. Curio struck out a lot this
- 8:30weekend, which is very odd for him.
- 8:32Yeah, like 3KS33K down. Yeah, I like him.
- 8:38I think he'll start to pick it up.
- 8:41Yeah, I'm not too focused on what I'm too worried about.
- 8:44Yeah, I think it was just a mix of him hitting the 1st live
- 8:48pitching against somebody else other than our guys.
- 8:54So Stanfield advanced on a balk. Then he advanced to 3rd on a
- 8:58wild pitch mile and grounded out to third base, letting Stanfield
- 9:01score. Brown walked, York walked, and R
- 9:05and BD grounded out to 3rd to end the thing.
- 9:07So we were up to at this point. Then here's where it kind of
- 9:11went off the rails for Case and Evans.
- 9:14Next two innings, yeah. Hence got hit by he hit Spence.
- 9:20Horn singled up the middle. Schmidt singled to the pitcher
- 9:23advancing Horn and Spence home single to right field to score
- 9:28Spence. Ellis doubled down the left
- 9:31field to score Schmidt and Horn and then O'Connell grounded out
- 9:35to smile him which scored Holmes to make it 4 to nothing.
- 9:39I mean four to two. Then Williams comes in to pitch
- 9:42for Evans. Ellis advances to 3rd on a pass
- 9:46ball, Kibbler struck out swinging and Ross flat out
- 9:49Weckler to pitch from Mueller. In the bottom of the fourth,
- 9:53Braun grounded out, Simpson struck out Caraway single to the
- 9:57shortstop and then Stanfield fouled out top of the fifth
- 10:01marrying Homer to right field. And man, that was a just
- 10:05straight off the bat. Yes.
- 10:09Yes, a bunch of these home runs this weekend that I saw in
- 10:13person were just straight off the bat, you know, then Spence
- 10:17grounded out, Horn struck out, Schmidt struck out and Holmes
- 10:21flied out. Then the bottom of the fifth,
- 10:23like I said, you know, it's very odd, but curious.
- 10:27Struck out looking. Mylan grounded out.
- 10:30Brown doubled, which he's been on fire.
- 10:33Oh my God, it's that's we would definitely get into that, guys.
- 10:38Yeah. Goodness, grace, and.
- 10:40Then York struck out swinging. That ended the bottom of the
- 10:43fifth. We come to the 6th and we've got
- 10:46Ellis striking out, O'Connell flyed out.
- 10:49Kid was struck out swinging. Then we get to the small
- 10:52comeback before the big explosion.
- 10:56Aaron BD doubled down the left field on Braun, grounded out to
- 11:00first base on assistant and Aaron BD advanced to 3rd.
- 11:03Dardar pinch hit for Simpson and hit his first home run to right
- 11:06center. I think tie in the game at that
- 11:08point or putting us down by 1. Yep. 4.
- 11:12Reeves came in to pitch it for Caraway and struck out looking.
- 11:17Stanfield reached on a throwing arrow, Andrews to pitch for
- 11:22Reckler and then Curia struck out looking.
- 11:25First game with Curiae just wasn't his best.
- 11:29Yeah, like I said, extremely rare for him to struggle.
- 11:32But like I said, I mean guys uberly talented.
- 11:37Yeah, I mean, he'll struggle. For.
- 11:40Yeah, he'll struggle for maybe a game or two and then he'll get
- 11:43back into it. So top 7th, we've got Dardar to
- 11:46second base, Reeves to third base, Ross gets hit by a pitch.
- 11:52And then the biggest moment, in my opinion, of the weekend,
- 11:55Gavin Guidry finally feels good to have #8 to look on the field
- 11:59and have #8 back on the field. Like, you could see it in the
- 12:03crowd. So the the you could see it in
- 12:05the crowd. You could see it in the team is
- 12:07just so affected. It's all the intangible things
- 12:09that really put some guys over the top.
- 12:12And like, you could see, you could see.
- 12:13I was so happy for first actors in June 24.
- 12:16Yeah, he was. He was fired at best, rightfully
- 12:18so. Yeah.
- 12:20You know, my thing is with the Guidry is in the number 8.
- 12:23Just in general I think Guidry deserves the number 8.
- 12:27Right. Yeah.
- 12:29But last season it was so weird because we've always #8 has
- 12:34always been a position player number.
- 12:36Yeah. Not APO.
- 12:39It hasn't been APO number so last year was weird looking on
- 12:43the field and not seeing him on the field.
- 12:45That's a good, good take, really.
- 12:47So I think it should be like they do when they gave it to the
- 12:50number 18, the Will Campbell that year, it was an honorary
- 12:55number. What a patch.
- 12:58If you're going to give the pitcher the number 8, we'll go
- 13:00start wearing patches. I mean, I saw the Woodside
- 13:04energy right underneath the Woodside energy.
- 13:07You should say honorary #8 but Gavin Guidry embodies the number
- 13:178, you know? And all he did was come on and
- 13:20strike out Marion, Spence and Horn in order, and then turn
- 13:24around to the dugout and talk a little smack, man.
- 13:28Listen, good catch. To which at my point, I'm
- 13:32thinking, you know, he's not talking and he's not saying
- 13:34anything. You know, he's just excited to
- 13:39be back. Yeah.
- 13:40And I think that umpire should have left him alone and minded
- 13:43his own business. So here's where we get to the
- 13:47big inning, the 10 run rule inning bottom of the seventh.
- 13:51Milan double S the left field. Brown swaps places with him and
- 13:55Mile and scores. York is hit by a pitch rile in
- 13:58the pitch for Andrews. Aaron BT I told you all you have
- 14:02his name was going to pop up a lot.
- 14:06Homer to left field to bring in York and Brown.
- 14:08Bronze lied out to left field. Door door double down the right
- 14:12field line. Talk about that kid had a day
- 14:15coming off the bench. Yes, absolutely.
- 14:17Oh my goodness. Reeves walk, then he stole
- 14:20second. Stanfield struck out sink
- 14:23swinging. Curiel reached on a throwing
- 14:25error by the 2nd baseman in advance to 2nd.
- 14:28Reeves scored on earned. Dardo scored on earned.
- 14:31Curiel advanced to 3rd by throwing error by the pitcher.
- 14:35Marlin was hit by a pitch. Watching the pitch virile Marlin
- 14:40stole second and Brown flied out to center field.
- 14:43We scored six runs that in him. That's where he started starting
- 14:47to put going on, you know, just, and I was at work, you know, in
- 14:51the game, you know, just keeping up with it, you know, just
- 14:53really started to crawl back through.
- 14:56So it was cool to them to really make that fight back.
- 15:00So we have the top of the eighth, we've got Dart or the
- 15:04third rocket to second base for Reeves.
- 15:09Then when you've got Schmidt striking out, home struck out,
- 15:13Ellis doubled in O'Connell fouled out giving Gassett and
- 15:18Gadget Gavin Guidry up for the win.
- 15:20Then in the eighth walked Aaron BD walking.
- 15:25York advanced to 2nd. Cerna junior pinch hit for Braun
- 15:28Kawaki. I guess that's how you say that
- 15:30name to pitch for Watson. Cerna doubled to right field,
- 15:37Aaron BD advanced to 3rd and York scored.
- 15:40Dard are grounded out to 2nd. CERN advanced to 3rd and BD
- 15:44scored. Cerner scored on a wild pitch
- 15:47Rockets single to third base, piercing John Pearson to pinch
- 15:55it for Stanfield. Pearson singled through the left
- 15:59side, advanced Rocket Harden to pitch for to pinch it for Curio
- 16:04was hit by a pitch, advanced the runners.
- 16:07Harden advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.
- 16:09Pearson and advanced the third record scored.
- 16:13Milan singled through Harden scored.
- 16:15Pearson scored to end the game. You know, and that's how that
- 16:19game went. Now I will say I have a few
- 16:22notes. I was about to start bookkeeping
- 16:24to keep notes for these games. Milwaukee had three errors.
- 16:29Milwaukee here's this four line. Gavin Gertrude got the win.
- 16:34Andrews got the loss. Milwaukee scored five, eight
- 16:38hits with three errors in the left, eight on base.
- 16:44Sorry. LSU was scored 15 at 15 hits, 0
- 16:49errors left, 11 on base. Here's some big numbers for me.
- 16:53This thing keeps zooming in and out with runners in scoring
- 16:56position. LSU was 5 for 16 and Milwaukee
- 17:01was 3 for 9:00. Yeah, I'm going to save this
- 17:05because I'm going to come back to this in a few minutes.
- 17:08You want to take Game 2? Yeah, that's right.
- 17:12Let's block that out. Yes, Sir, let's pull it up.
- 17:15So yeah, this is so obviously sounding Valentine's Day.
- 17:19So I'm trying to the Valentine's people.
- 17:22So finally pretty winning. So there's a while.
- 17:27So he was standing like I'm staying this I'm watching me
- 17:32because the thing they have was the deal for the USA game, but
- 17:41just in Milwaukee out his not his state.
- 17:45Like yeah, we have the league the whole game and they have a
- 17:48time long base and the night. I think two of the three runs of
- 17:52the night. You know, he was able to hold
- 17:54on. You know, just, you know, like I
- 17:58said, I think just, you know, I always they coming into the the
- 18:02the theories, you know, this, this like lashing gets pretty
- 18:04Fort Wayne. Just you're going to have one
- 18:07game that's going to be relatively closer than
- 18:08everything else. You know, you got the two
- 18:10blowouts in the one close game. I I knew we were going to get
- 18:12like one close game out of them. Even even the blowout was just
- 18:16kind of misleading. But I just you know, we scored.
- 18:20It was the bottom of the eighth was dead for us.
- 18:22We scored three in the bottom of the eighth, you know, and just
- 18:26pull up the play by play in the 8th and just, you know, our
- 18:29standfield double in the field. The standfield really have
- 18:31really have some great contact on the ball this series.
- 18:34Some of the gentleman's unlucky Bowser didn't get in play.
- 18:37You know Curiel singled to second base.
- 18:41You know Brown reached on the field of shorts and difficult to
- 18:44get back to Brown. Yeah.
- 18:47Curiel's Del third. They all been different this
- 18:50year. Mile double to love center,
- 18:54bringing in brown. Curiel, you're blind out, but
- 18:58Aaron beat it. Double to center field.
- 19:00Miles forward. You know this, you know, you
- 19:04know, we used to be off to quickly to quickly in the in the
- 19:07bottom of the third, Milwaukee on the top of the fourth.
- 19:11We pulled like scored our laughter in the bottom of the
- 19:14eighth. And then they they pull within
- 19:17pull within the two within the top of the ninth.
- 19:19They was able to hold on. Yeah.
- 19:22Just thought there's a team for scoring, you know, brought into
- 19:26the party. But you know, just the winner's
- 19:27the win, and that's the bottom line.
- 19:30And it was good to have Cooper Moore come out and account for
- 19:3711 of the 17 KS on the day. Dealing I'm in the performance
- 19:43man. We're going to touch on this
- 19:45later, but in the first two games we had 17 strikeouts in
- 19:51game one, in 17 strikeouts in Game 2.
- 19:54Yep, that's right. Which is all going to accumulate
- 20:00in game 3. After game three, we broke the
- 20:05records previously set by program record previously set by
- 20:09the 25 team with 42 strikeouts. I think with 49 strikeouts on
- 20:18the weekend in a three-game series, we're just going to go
- 20:21ahead and I'm going to say the for game three, save us all a
- 20:25bunch of reading and time and just say Schmidt got the win.
- 20:31I was really impressed by him. Yes, yeah.
- 20:35I mean, I think it was the yeah, the first inning, Milwaukee
- 20:39comes out in the top of the first and she gets a strikeout,
- 20:43then Tibler Homer to right field, then we go.
- 20:47He struck out Ross and then walked Marion on three straight
- 20:51pitches, then struck out Horn. You know, we didn't do anything
- 20:57special in the first inning. We had a strikeout, a walk,
- 21:00strike out and fly out, which you know, then I think that was
- 21:05the last time. This is the last time for a
- 21:08little while. You're going to hear me say Jake
- 21:09Brown struck out. So let's, you know, he didn't do
- 21:17anything big in the SEC top of the second.
- 21:20He got a walk, gave up a walk, then struck out.
- 21:24They stole a base, strikeout, strikeout come to the bottom of
- 21:27the second. York is hit by a pitch.
- 21:30Pearson flied out by the way Pearson started in the left
- 21:34field this game. Stanfield was hurt on Saturday,
- 21:39slit sliding the home bruised his hand.
- 21:41Serna caught I think or was there and be the catcher and it
- 21:46doesn't matter at this point. No Serna was DH, so Serna is hit
- 21:53by a pitch. York advances to second.
- 21:55They move them up on a wild pitch.
- 21:57Simpsons singled to center field to score York.
- 22:02Caraway grounded out to the pitcher but advanced.
- 22:06We're runner and we scored run curio singler through the right
- 22:11side. Simpson scored, then Milam
- 22:13reached on a fielder's choice and Curiel was out at second.
- 22:19Then here's where Schmidt gets in a little bit of trouble.
- 22:22O'Connell grounded out. He watched Kibler, he hit Ross
- 22:26by with a pitch. Marin singled to advance the
- 22:30runners horn, struck out swinging.
- 22:32Lim single to right to score Ron and then Spence popped out.
- 22:37And then here we go. You're going to hear this a lot
- 22:39in the next couple of innings. The bottom of the third downtown
- 22:45Jake Brown Homer to right field. Aaron BD singled through the
- 22:49left side. York walked.
- 22:52Aaron BD advanced Dardar to pinch hit for Pearson.
- 22:55Dardar walked, he sheeted a pitch for Arnold.
- 22:59Serna singled through the left side and advanced runners and
- 23:03scored Aaron BD Braun pitch hit for Simpson, struck out
- 23:08swinging. Caraway triple to right center.
- 23:12One thing we missed in game to Game 2 breakdown was Caraway hit
- 23:17one and it was a for sure triple.
- 23:21Only problem is York. York was on first base in front
- 23:25of him and when they bobbled that ball, Josh Jordan was
- 23:28waving him around. But I think York blew a tire out
- 23:31somewhere between 2nd and 3rd and couldn't go no more.
- 23:39He was he was out of breath at that point.
- 23:42So Caraway need to get his little triple in and he sure got
- 23:471. So then Curio singled to second
- 23:50base and Vance the runner on the throwing area and Caraway scored
- 23:54mile and walked Brown. Here we go.
- 23:56Brown walked getting on base again.
- 24:00Aaron BD struck out looking in New York, fouled out all of that
- 24:07for six run third inning. Six runs on five hits.
- 24:12Yeah, nothing 2 bit major in the 4th inning, just a bunch of
- 24:17pitching changes. But Glusting struck out, Ellis
- 24:20grounded out, O'Connell struck out, then Pulaski to left field
- 24:25for Horn, Glusting to second base, Fishnick to pitch, Dartar
- 24:30grounded out, Cerner Region on the throwing error.
- 24:34That poor shortstop made so many errors.
- 24:37If you look at it, I think every error they had was on him.
- 24:41Bronze singled. Caraway reached on a fielding
- 24:44air in. Serna scored.
- 24:46Curio singled up the middle. Bronze scored.
- 24:50Mylan singled up, singled down the right side.
- 24:53Caraway scored. Brown singled to the right
- 24:58center. Mylan advanced to 2nd.
- 25:00Curio scored, Aaron Beatty singled.
- 25:05York flied out to score. Mylan Dard or homeward to right
- 25:08field, three run Homer. Then Sir on the flight out to in
- 25:11that inning, that was an 8 run inning.
- 25:14OK, then we have the top of the fifth.
- 25:18I'm not going to read it out. I'm just going to hit the big
- 25:20play by plays now. Pawoski home Homer, hit a three
- 25:25run Homer and that'll do it for them.
- 25:28Then the bottom of the fifth, Bron doubled, Caraway grounded
- 25:33out, Curiel walked mile and hit by a pitch.
- 25:37Jake Brown, Ryan Slam. Over the right field. 4 BI 4
- 25:42ribbies above. See you later.
- 25:44Yep. Then Reeves singled, Yaman
- 25:50struck out and Daughter grounded out.
- 25:52Six inning. Nothing much for any team does.
- 25:57Jake Brown didn't come up to bat.
- 25:59Then the game ended in the seventh due to 14 run rule and
- 26:06that's all I have for that struck out looking to give us 49
- 26:11strikeouts on the weekend. Then King State came in and
- 26:19look, I was really impressed by them.
- 26:24I know they're, you know, their weekend wasn't much, but
- 26:29personally, I don't know how good Southeastern is, but they
- 26:32had a three-game sweep at Southeastern.
- 26:34They sure did, yes, but. Just to run through this, you
- 26:40can go through the 1st inning. We got Plug with the win.
- 26:44Jaden Newt got the start for US. Plug got the win, Gavin Jones
- 26:48gets the loss for Kent State and Gavin Guidry gets to save.
- 26:52I've got two big takeaways from this one or three and I start
- 26:57off, you know, we did, we did all right in the first, top of
- 27:03the first. We got to walk and then a
- 27:09ground, but double play by Milan.
- 27:12Then we they singled and struck out.
- 27:14Nothing really big going mercurial struck out Miles flyed
- 27:18out. Jake Brown, of course, homers.
- 27:21Yes, 2 little nicest. Jake Brown got up in 24 hours,
- 27:2724 hours. Fan hit two home runs, four home
- 27:30runs, one of them being a Grand Slam.
- 27:34But for him, three of his home runs came in and was he ended
- 27:41the game on Sunday with a home run, started the game on Monday
- 27:45with a home run and then came back in this I think the second
- 27:49inning and hit another home run. Yeah, listen, they were just so
- 27:52dominant through this, this game.
- 27:56Yeah, I'm mistake. We scored in every inning.
- 28:00Yeah, into the 1st in but. The my main thing is resilience.
- 28:06Yes. We almost gave that game away.
- 28:08Yeah, sure did. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:10So that. Game was almost given away and
- 28:12yeah, what you were going to say.
- 28:16I was going to say real quick that I, you know, knew that
- 28:19plenty of office started. He was missing a little late
- 28:22exercise to walk through tune this single in the first but did
- 28:26have a key and because it's the pitch, the nice three plus
- 28:30pitches to the two innings, you know, but he was pulling out
- 28:33three. You know, they were both pulled
- 28:36out to 15 because of peace. But you know, gathered but in
- 28:39the Canadian today for the gate tree and was clicking both the
- 28:428th and 19 and he gets to save on 33 pitches.
- 28:45It was a very efficient, he was very close.
- 28:48You know, I'll just put it on autopilot, you know, the last
- 28:51last third of the game, which I don't blame him because, you
- 28:54know, double just scoring. There's there's been plenty of
- 28:57runs to get you to win in baseball more times than not.
- 29:00And they scored in the first six innings.
- 29:02So I mean, they felt like they did enough of their job.
- 29:06Oh, exactly. OK, so we have 49 on the
- 29:11weekend. LSU was up to 64 strikeouts, so
- 29:15out of 72 + 27, let's do this math real quick.
- 29:20Only 35 outs in four games came from actually them putting ball
- 29:25in play. All right, I think it's time for
- 29:29us to transition into our powerhouse pole Week 1.
- 29:36And bear with me here because we're going to try something
- 29:40different this time. You can see that.
- 29:44Yeah, I can see all. Right.
- 29:46I'm putting the screen sharing and putting the polls up.
- 29:50So how are we going to do this with the spreadsheet?
- 29:52We're just going to put it, put it by name or put the top three
- 29:57by date or just go through and put who we've got a one or two
- 30:02by their name. Yeah, so like you can like in in
- 30:05the Google doc, you could type in or top three for each for
- 30:08batting, top three for fielding, top three for pitching.
- 30:11And I'll add them up. I'll add them up myself and I'll
- 30:13record it. You know, I'll record like with
- 30:16the points you pushed by our initial view and our initial my
- 30:19numbers. My God, if I you'll see like
- 30:22whenever I do edit it, you'll see what I'm referring to
- 30:24specifically. So basically for for the for the
- 30:27viewers, you know, me and Justin going to be doing each, you
- 30:31know, have our own polls like top B for batting will offense,
- 30:36top three for different top B for pitching, each player player
- 30:40gets in our top three. And you know, any one of those
- 30:42categories, they get one, one point per appearance.
- 30:45They both so if a player gets appearance on both the poles,
- 30:49they get 2 points for that, for that structural games, then they
- 30:53get more points and you finish in it.
- 30:55So and we do in top three. So Venice first point in one of
- 30:58our holes be 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points and 3rd place gets
- 31:01one points. So the most you can score like
- 31:04on a single, you know, power powerhouse pole is five at most
- 31:10because if you get without being one point for each, you know,
- 31:14pole appearance plus a first place spinach first place state
- 31:18like be just out and above and then and then we'll get a you
- 31:24know, people to get a better idea of how it looked as the
- 31:26season goes on. Yeah, so like.
- 31:28So I don't need to. Yeah, you just.
- 31:30Keep going. This is what I'm saying right?
- 31:33Yeah. Well, I'll keep it shared and
- 31:36let them see who we've got, you know?
- 31:40Yeah, yeah. I'll be I'll I'll definitely,
- 31:43I'll definitely ended up just whatever you do, it says it's
- 31:46typing in the Google Doc. And then then I'll just add them
- 31:49up and we'll just compare our compare.
- 31:51We'll compare it and then I'll just I'll just record it in the
- 31:54in the spreadsheet, OK. So I will stop sharing the
- 32:00spreadsheet right now. I'll just go through real quick
- 32:02and show you all we've got, you know, the polls, the points each
- 32:09player gets, the players names and positions, you know, and
- 32:15I'll pull up next week after we add it all up and everything
- 32:18else. But I will just go ahead and say
- 32:20offense. I'll start with offense.
- 32:22I've got Jake Brown for obvious reasons.
- 32:25Four home runs in a granny and he batted 579 on the weekend.
- 32:29It's hard to take it away from him.
- 32:31Right, of course I'll blame you doing that.
- 32:34Yeah, I've got Aaron Beatty. That's the name we heard a lot
- 32:39of going through 4:44. You know, can't complain with
- 32:43him. Bunch of double S.
- 32:45He did exactly what they said he was going to do.
- 32:48And then I'm teetering on this third one.
- 32:54I could put Dardar because he had huge moments coming off the
- 32:58bench, yeah, and just stepping up.
- 33:01Or I could go Caraway because Caraway start off rough but
- 33:05picked it up at the towards the end.
- 33:07But I think I will give the edge to Dardar.
- 33:11Yeah, I don't blame you there. It's it's like I say, I was
- 33:15teetered on that the real man, this site, you know, I mean go
- 33:18miles real quick. Jake brown #1 declared.
- 33:21He just pulled away in the last couple games with a big home
- 33:23runs. The guys have been really
- 33:25dominant, man. Just 424 games, you know, one
- 33:29per game on average. Like it's just hard.
- 33:31You know, the defensive score is just hard to really argue that
- 33:34Kate Aaron, BD really just very productive in the first few
- 33:38games. I think like that's a safe
- 33:39number too. I'm with you just as far as like
- 33:43the TDM, the third one I'm going to give the oh man, it's tough.
- 33:47I'm going to give this the narrow ace to Zach York and not
- 33:51just because of Jen's like, you know, he's very popular right
- 33:54now, like the old big popular, you know, the Curt Creole manga,
- 33:57A lot of people it was very popular.
- 33:59People talk about the power. I just one thing I'm so
- 34:02impressed with him so far this season is the fact that this I'm
- 34:06disciplined. It's so tired.
- 34:08Nice man it's incredible. I was I was coming out and came
- 34:14out between New York and what you did off the bench very
- 34:17impressive. But I give the narrow answer to
- 34:20Zach, you're just for this. The I discipline the steel steel
- 34:25instant past 30 days. This is really yeah, it's tough
- 34:29for that first spot, but I'm again, this fight is accurate
- 34:31because people don't talk about the power.
- 34:33I heard, I don't know if you know, Blake Ruffino or like Ays,
- 34:37he he compared them to Prince Fielder, you know, just like
- 34:41that power swing with the that build of his.
- 34:44I think he's a great cop. You know, I think we're going to
- 34:46be focused on the power, but I'm just like, I'm really impressed
- 34:48by his, his, his plenty of discipline, just getting well,
- 34:52I'm. Really impressed that last night
- 34:55he's just straight up stole the base.
- 34:56No, it wasn't last night, it was Monday night.
- 34:58He just straight up stole the base on Monday night after
- 35:03they're looking like he blew a tire out on Thursday, on Sunday
- 35:08or Saturday. On Saturday he's straight up
- 35:11stole the base. I'll let you give your pictures
- 35:15before. OK, yeah, so picture she was
- 35:20pretty like I got #1 at Cooper board, you know, this time
- 35:23through board Leonard Cage, the dealing on just pretty dealing
- 35:26on game on family man, real dominant help.
- 35:30I want the wire to wire victory, you know, even though that's
- 35:33like, you know, 53, just when you have a move forward output,
- 35:38just him being that trustworthy guy on the mound.
- 35:41Just he. I'm just showing now #2 I got
- 35:44Gabby Getty just coming off and it's really just recovery the
- 35:47way he did missing all the last season.
- 35:49Just really such an intangible boost for this, for this program
- 35:53this year just really bailed us out on the other day.
- 35:59Keith no, get him out of reach for, you know, K State.
- 36:01You know, I was watching that whole game and we had a good
- 36:04lead offense put in an all pilot, like I said earlier, but
- 36:07I don't blame him. But just, you know, just open
- 36:10that strong and stressful. You know, he can't bail very few
- 36:13pitches and you know, didn't give away anything.
- 36:16So he was probably the clutch the performance of the yeah, IRB
- 36:21you know, I gave it to later student back to the there.
- 36:23So this obviously, you know, we we were very productive on the
- 36:27Nile, but just you know, I want to seem just more efficiently on
- 36:30the mound. You know, just so I gave up a
- 36:32lot of waft just all together. You know, Musso was talking
- 36:36about just you know, we did give up the big swing quite a bit.
- 36:39A lot of a lot of opposing pitchers, a lot of seasons, a
- 36:42lot of posing battles. I'm sick on the ball.
- 36:46But this, Yeah. And.
- 36:51For me, I've got Cooper Moore and everyone who's huge.
- 36:59Gavin Guidry coming back was huge.
- 37:01Man, yes. At one point I thought he was
- 37:05going to be my number one guy, but he's just the number 2.
- 37:08But. Then Cooper Williams coming in,
- 37:11I really think his upside is going to be maybe they swap him
- 37:15and Evans. Cooper Williams works his way
- 37:19into the weekend rotation. All right then defensively, this
- 37:24was hard, like I said before, but 64 strikeouts wasn't much
- 37:31defensive wise to, you know, go off of.
- 37:36But I'll let you give your 3 real quick.
- 37:40You know, like you said, mate, it was this was by far the
- 37:42hardest one, even though like, you know, you and I, yeah,
- 37:46struggle with the guy on the other team.
- 37:48I think the top 2 for offensive pitcher was pretty, pretty
- 37:51clear. But fielding listen, I mean,
- 37:54just, you know, I'm open to I'm open to backlash for this one.
- 37:57But just like I put Steven Mylan first because he was very active
- 38:01in the infield, you know, with the double play the other day,
- 38:04just and like he had a really good early play of the year
- 38:08candidate with that double play. Just all that off balance throw
- 38:11the first. I thought it was really
- 38:12impressive. So he's really been active.
- 38:15Like you said, you know, there's only so much you can get from
- 38:17the from the pitcher's battle from fielding, but taken I got
- 38:21Derrick Curriel because outside of the the the catchers and and
- 38:25the first basement because they they put out automatically.
- 38:30So he got 7 or put outs to anybody.
- 38:35I counted that catcher for the basement.
- 38:38So it's basically he put shrink Caraway, he got players
- 38:45responsible for during the first several games.
- 38:49Just like I said, there's only so much you can.
- 38:51You can't really think too much away from the field.
- 38:53And just with all the strikeouts that I'm I'm comfortable with
- 38:57Steve Milan. He was very active in the in the
- 39:00field is for the double players, assists and stuff.
- 39:04See, I went, I put Milan first. I went with York at 2nd and
- 39:10Aaron BD at third. Milan for see.
- 39:15Milan and Aaron BD for me were more also a leadership decision
- 39:18too. Yeah, you know you had.
- 39:22You have your pitcher struggling to get in a rhythm and the first
- 39:26two people that are always coming to have Mile meeting or
- 39:31Milam and Aaron BD. Like Aaron BD my one of my
- 39:34biggest things for catchers is knowing when you need to go give
- 39:37your pitcher a break and a little talking.
- 39:39To you? Yeah, that's good.
- 39:41And I think Aaron BD has that aspect to him where he's a
- 39:45great, he's got an arm, he's got a cannon, you know, he's got
- 39:49that. But he has the intangibles of
- 39:51the leadership quality too, that he'll come out and go talk to a
- 39:56pitcher when they're struggling. But at 2, I got Zach York
- 40:00because they've made some throws this weekend.
- 40:02That big guy shouldn't be able to reach down there and make.
- 40:07That's true. Yeah.
- 40:09And you know, he, they hit him. He played the hot corner too
- 40:13down there at first. They hit one.
- 40:16Hit a couple on that line and he made a couple great plays.
- 40:19I got to give him the edge it too.
- 40:21And Aaron BD's at 3rd because he's, like you said, the catcher
- 40:24is going to be on out most of those put outs.
- 40:27But he was a backstop. He showed leadership and that's
- 40:31why I got it. That's where I stand.
- 40:33That's fair. Like I said, there's something
- 40:35because I thought about, you know, kid Aaron BI thought about
- 40:38him too. But just like I love what you
- 40:40said about the like the intangible stuff for the
- 40:41leadership that makes, you know, obviously credit to Zach, you
- 40:45know, really getting down there. Yeah, like that feeling was
- 40:47feeling was the most talented one for me, you know, because
- 40:50like, you know, it was a big time.
- 40:54Big pitching duel. It was kind of hard to get
- 40:56aspect of this one. Took a slight edge over this
- 41:00one. Yeah, You know, I could narrow
- 41:02it down to Milan and York just because Milan made those big
- 41:06double plays. But but going from there to the
- 41:11tone setting Tiger of the Week. Brother, why don't you start out
- 41:15that one off, brother? I am going with a pair, OK?
- 41:19Jake Brown, obviously he needs to just keep up with what he's
- 41:22been doing, keep his approach. Cooper Moore is another one.
- 41:27Yeah, OK. For me, Cooper Moore just needs
- 41:29to come in and play his game like he's played.
- 41:32He's been. He lit it up on Saturday.
- 41:34He was responsible for 11 strikeouts.
- 41:39He gave up four hits and one run, you know, in that huge win
- 41:45he had. But those are my guys.
- 41:50Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm going to cheat a little bit too.
- 41:51I know. Just I'm going to save the mound
- 41:55just like, you know, I want, you know, like I said, we've I'm not
- 41:58going to say we're we're trash. I know people tend to overreact
- 42:01about every little thing. Just listen, we are, we got the
- 42:04we got the guys we got, we got the arms, we've got the talent.
- 42:07You know, we've got production so far.
- 42:09You know, like I said, you know, set up a program record on the
- 42:11three-game series. I mean, I'm not worried about
- 42:13the talent. I'm just like, can we can we be
- 42:15more efficient already? We're about to see some
- 42:19heightened competition, you know, in this round Robin.
- 42:22So is this if we like you said, like you said, Cuban ball, like
- 42:25you said, keep it up. You know, that was a dominant
- 42:27performance, you know, because just get more consistency from
- 42:30the bullpen. You know, just to see what Jake
- 42:32is going to do, how he's going to mix it up, how he's going to
- 42:35like dwindle down the rotation from the starters and from the
- 42:39bullpen moving forward. And this is a great opportunity
- 42:42for the the obvious other guys in the bullpen to really shine.
- 42:45So this I want offensive doing doing for terrific so far.
- 42:50So I mean, obviously relative you got a king of cops with the
- 42:52the teams you played. I just want I just want to stick
- 42:56with the bullpens. Can they be consistent,
- 42:58especially in the bullpen? Exactly.
- 43:01OK, we're going to. I agree with what you said, you
- 43:04know, but I think a lot of it's going to be too with their
- 43:08consistency. You are coming back and
- 43:11everybody is hyping you up all season long.
- 43:14You're the defending national champs and you've had the top
- 43:17pitching staff under Nate Yeski for the last two years.
- 43:21Absolutely, yeah. You throw a lot of early
- 43:24strikes, you know, people are going to come out and their
- 43:26approach is going to be to jump on the early strikes.
- 43:28So you have to be disciplined, keep the ball where, you know,
- 43:33in a nice range and trust your defense.
- 43:36You got to trust your defense. But, you know, just real quick,
- 43:42we're not going to touch much on the Nichols game because that's
- 43:45today at 1:00. But we've got Indiana, Notre
- 43:50Dame and Central Florida, right? And I think the only thing that
- 43:54is going to make these tough is how do we handle playing away?
- 44:00Yes, big holes stand to like a new granted, it's a neutral
- 44:03site, but I mean, it's still about the box, you know?
- 44:07It's yeah, it's a neutral site. We're going to be out the first
- 44:10time away from the box. It's weird because I'm used to
- 44:13them playing like going to like when we play in Texas, those
- 44:17little Round Rock. Yeah, that that, that's a good
- 44:20point. Yeah, because we've been to.
- 44:21I mean, yeah, we play, we go to Texas and we end up playing a
- 44:27week in Texas, Yeah, a couple of way games, but we don't have
- 44:30that this week before the so to be, you know, interesting to
- 44:35see. Yeah, for sure.
- 44:37But any closing thoughts? I don't know just like I said, I
- 44:43I was so thrilled to get back in it.
- 44:44You know this season, this will be a lot of good stuff, a lot of
- 44:47encouraging things over the the last four days.
- 44:50You know the four or five days offers have been dominant.
- 44:53Like we said, you know, this goes without saying, pitching
- 44:55like pitching got a lot of potential, yes, if we can get
- 44:59like I'm always about to mile when it comes to baseball
- 45:01because it's a defensive support by structure, Obviously need
- 45:04points to win, no doubt, but this is a lot of that feeds off
- 45:08the pitching and just can we stay consistent.
- 45:13Yeah, it's like we said last week, you know pitching is key
- 45:16to success. You can score 10 runs, but if
- 45:20you pitching comes in and let's in eleven runs.
- 45:23Yeah. Pitching in defense comes in
- 45:26let's in eleven runs. Those ten runs don't do you much
- 45:29good, but you know I've been and I'll continue to tweet out at
- 45:34for every game, every half inning.
- 45:36Check out the Facebook, because I've been doing the same thing.
- 45:38I started doing the same thing there posting consistently.
- 45:44I think I've posted every day on insta, TikTok, Facebook and
- 45:51YouTube for the last since we dropped the last episode.
- 45:54I'll continue to do that. Appreciate all the love we
- 45:57getting there. You know, start posting more on
- 45:59school account once we start growing that, but this is kind
- 46:03of going to be the structure of the next few months.
- 46:08That's right, if we go. Over those games, we might not
- 46:11have four games to go over. Don't believe me?
- 46:14But we not get you. We got we not get you there.
- 46:17But we go get you good. We might not be every day, we
- 46:21might be once a week, but we go get you good.
- 46:23Absolutely. And hopefully we hear a lot more
- 46:26of Jake Brown, Eric K, Darren Beatty, a lot more out of Derek
- 46:33Curiel. We get Stanfield healthy because
- 46:35he's one of my favorites. Oh yeah, I can't.
- 46:38I can't stand though how happy it was when he came back because
- 46:42he would verify the last. That's a huge boost to the team.
- 46:46I just hope. I like that.
- 46:50I like that speed. We have an outfield.
- 46:52I also like how we're so versatile where we have our
- 46:55infielders that can play and fill a position, you know.
- 47:01But I'll let you go man. Thank you for me coming on
- 47:05again. I'll see you next week.
- 47:07Appreciate you like always Have a great day, great night, great
- 47:10morning. Whatever you have, make it a
- 47:11great one. Like comment, share, subscribe.
- 47:16We'll be doing this. We enjoy doing this.
- 47:18Appreciate all y'all love y'all, everybody have a good one.
- 47:22See y'all next time. The.
