- 0:30SPEAKER_00: and gents, welcome to another edition of the Ty and Bob Pod.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: That's Bob McGinn,
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I'm Tyler Dunne,
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: and this is golongtd.com,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: and we're inside your email inbox,
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: and of course, the exceptional Substack app, which I can't recommend enough, it's...
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Easy to use, all stories, all podcasts right there.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And I know a lot of people are on the go.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're getting that final mowing at the lawn.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're running kids all over the place, doing chores around the house.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Audio narrations are all right there for all stories as well inside the app.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: I should mention that more often, Bob.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So definitely many ways to get all of our long form content here.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: No ads, no sponsors.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I should say we're all subscription based.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Fueled by the people.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: That's the way we want it.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Bob, McGinn, you were so kind to me today, delaying this to tonight, post-children.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: We have Ellis, Sonny, and Rocco all down asleep.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So thank you so much for your patience, Bob, and everyone.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Do
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: you remember those days, putting the kids to sleep?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: I do, but mine were separated by four and then five years by three.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: You got them just bing, bing, bing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Man.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Running your own business, Tyler?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Unreal.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Well, they're 7, 5, and 1.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: So there is a little gap between 2 and 3 where we had to kind of catch up on life a little bit.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I really enjoy bedtime routine.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Even though you're tired and everybody's whooped and all of that, Sonny just cracks us up.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So it's always...
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: You know, obviously bats, brush your teeth, read a book, divide and conquer.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Gina's got Ella.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I've got Sonny.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Rocco's already down.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And after reading a book with Sonny, it's always, can you tell me a story?
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And we have to just on the fly, make up a story.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So tonight,
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: like it's usually they end up being like one of his, he,
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: and he always has a suggestion,
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: a stuff he got lost in the woods is usually his go-to.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: And, you know, he, it's a launching off point.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: But he wanted a football game.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's either that or a football game.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And it was the peanut butters against the jellies.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And the peanut butters were the bad guys.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: The jellies were the good guys.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And the score was 72-2 going into the fourth quarter.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: And Sonny came in and scored seven touchdowns and did the Sonny shuffle in
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: the end zone as time expired.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, there's a Sonny shuffle dance that we've got to.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: He was laughing his butt off.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: He enjoyed that one.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: No, we're good.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: We're good.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: We're ready to rock here on the pod.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Man, how's life for you?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Anything new since we last talked?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I saw the Texas El Paso Minors at Michigan on Saturday in a rainy day, kind of.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And this Saturday, I'm going to a random event that I kind of like to do, Tyler, sometimes.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: I'm going to see a little non-con action.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: We got the Pac-12 against the MAC.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: We got the Aztecs of San Diego State going down to Toledo one hour from my house at
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: the Glass Bowl noon Saturday.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I'm up for it.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I got my prospects all lined up, who to watch.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Aztecs got a good left tackle.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Should be a good close game.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: UT favored by three.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I'm fired up, Tyler.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: You can hear it in his voice, everyone.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Bob McGinn, ready to rock.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: A little Toledo Aztec action.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Now, that left tackle for the
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Aztecs, do you know his name at the top of your head?
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, you could just make somebody up and we'd all believe you, honestly.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: But let's get a full report here on the pod.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I want hand placement, drop set, aggressiveness, wonder lick.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I want it all.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Like the last time I was at the Glass Bowl, I saw BYU lose to the Toledo Rockets.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: The quarterback for BYU that day was a junior.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: First round pick, Zach Wilson.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Of the Jets, the bust.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I didn't really, you know, he was a junior.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: He had just started,
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: this is about his third game, but he was very impressive that day, I will say that.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: You never know what you're going to see, T, you know?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: You know, COVID broke a lot of brains in many ways.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Just leave it there, Bob.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: But the Zach Wilson discourse is near the top of the list, right?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: That was the COVID season.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: He played just a handful of games.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: One of them was against Coastal Carolina.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I remember watching that in prime time.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: And Coastal Carolina just beat the piss out of them.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, they were going out of their way to cheap shot them, hit them at every opportunity.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I don't think Zach Wilson won that game either, but...
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: This is on the heels of Patrick Mahomes taking over the NFL the last two years,
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: and we're all looking for the next Patrick Mahomes,
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: and he had a few funky,
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: fun-as-hell plays, and it's, I don't know, a COVID creation, Zach Wilson.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: He never really was that good at playing quarterback, I suppose.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Still kicking around, though, right?
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Is he?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Is he number two somewhere?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I should know this.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Denver, I want to say.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Miami?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: But people aren't here to listen to any Zach Wilson talk.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: That's how you lose listeners.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Let's get into the North, Tyler.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: The North.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: That's what it's about here.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: For those who don't know,
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: we dissect every team in the NFC North every week in maniacal,
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: some would say borderline, insane detail, Bob.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Player to player, position to position.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Bob's studying how many nose hairs are in each nostril of the left guard on
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: the Minnesota Vikings.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: It's that nuanced here.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Maybe not, but close, close.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure you've got meticulous notes.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Can you hold up your notes that people are watching?
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Just give us a quick look at all that.
- 7:15Wow.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Three pages for each team.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: So we're going to start with Minnesota-Chicago,
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: but that requires more time because I'm looking at two teams.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: You know, if it's playing Detroit, playing somebody else, like who'd they just get done playing?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Buffalo.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not really studying the bills at all, you know.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: All right, Tyler, let's look at Minnesota's 2-0.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: The other three clubs are 1-1.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Minnesota has the fourth best QB team.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, situation in the division and right now they got the lead.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Um, they've won seven straight now in Chicago, the Vikings seven straight at soldier field.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: I thought, um, one thing, the announcers, Joe Davis and Greg Olson, boy, they were good.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: All of a sudden Joe, uh, Joe Davis drops in.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: The last time, um, the bears beat the Vikings at home.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Chase Daniels was the QB.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty good little note, you know.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: All right, so we start with the Vikings, Tyler.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Did you see much of this game?
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Not a second time through.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Quick aside on Greg Olson.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: He's a chapter in my tight ends book from a few years back.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Ron Rivera had a great story on when he knew that Greg Olson would be a commentator one day.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: They were, so he coached him in Carolina.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: They were flying back from,
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I think it was a cross country flight and he's sitting at Ron Rivera and his wife is
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: with him.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: She came back with the team and They allowed it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: They had to get back for some reason.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Anyways, they're at the front of the plane.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And Greg Olson, they can hear him all the way in the back.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: And he just would not stop talking.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Just yapping nonstop.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Story to story to story
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: to story.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And he slowly worked his way up row by row by row by row.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: So his voice got louder and louder and louder and louder.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And yeah, he knew, okay, this...
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: This tight end who is one of the greatest tight ends ever, he will be in TV one day.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: He does such a great job explaining stuff in layman's terms, right?
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Like that's the balance.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: He can't get too – you have a general audience,
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: so you can't get too into the weeds play to play,
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: but you don't want to be bland and boring and insipid, a word I know that you like.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: So he's pretty good.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: All right,
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: so – You know,
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: the passing games were kind of null and void because of the weather and the wind.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: It was a rough day at Soldier Field.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, we've been there in these situations and it's tough.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: And the Vikings really stood.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, you wrote about Brian Flores the other day.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Let's look at some of the, let's look at the Viking offense first.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I thought this game was enthralling.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: I was really into this thing.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: It's like something out of the 60s when I was a kid.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: I love the grass field.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: I love the muck and dirty uniforms.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: It was an awesome thing, man.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: And no touchdowns right up my alley.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: The receivers, you know, Addison, Tyler, Jordan Addison.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not very big.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: He is 5'11", 170 at the Combine.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: He's a surprisingly effective blocker.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: He really is.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: For just a little midget out there, yeah,
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: there's about three or four or five instances where the guy would come in and crack
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: on run plays or sustain on a safety.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Impressive.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: He had one bad run when – Tyreek Stevenson kind of discarded him,
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: but otherwise he was good there.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Third and five late in the game, the Bears blitzed.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: He was one-on-one with the linebacker,
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: TJ Edwards, beat him inside, gain of 15, was a hell of a play.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Jefferson played every snap,
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: all 52, which wasn't very many, but you don't see many wideouts playing every snap.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Boy, that just shows the importance of this game,
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: this division game early,
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: you know, and talk his way into staying on the field every snap.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Jawan Jennings was injured.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: They played Price.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Price is a really good return guy,
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: but we've never really seen Miles Price too much as a receiver.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Tight ends, Oliver.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Josh Oliver has been there about four years now.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: He's a hell of a blocker.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Is he the best blocking tight end in the division?
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think he is.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: He killed that defensive tackle,
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: James Lynch,
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: killed him early,
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: first play,
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: gain a nine, blocked Lynch at the point of attack, another run, gain a eight.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: He went one-on-one against Montez Sweat,
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: gain a seven,
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: and he had one bad run against Lynch and a false start, but he's a good player.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: TJ Hawkinson, you know, he played 36 snaps, only five more than Oliver.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: He was okay in the game.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: He set up the last field goal with a 20-yard catch against Jalen Johnson.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, the offensive line.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Christian Derisaw has had a lot of knee problems recently,
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: and he was a first-round pick in 2021.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Before the injuries, he was just a dancing bear.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was so athletic, great looking, everything.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: How big is he?
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Darisaw's six, oh,
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: he's only six,
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: four and a half,
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: 322, 34 and a quarter arm, tiny hands, nine and a quarter, 20 on the Wonderlic.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: You know, right now, he's just not moving the way he used to be before these injuries.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Um, He's really right now.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: He's a pusher, not a striker.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: You don't really see finish out of him.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's playing well.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: He didn't have hard.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: I am for only one bad play.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: No bad plays.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: He had illegal formation penalty and he's a really good player and he's a key
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: to their offense, no doubt.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: But I just don't see him as a great one right now.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Um, The left guard, Donovan Jackson, he was good.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Brandel, I thought he played really physical, the center.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Fries, again, straight ahead game or movements at a premium.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: He has problems with movement in front of him, but in this game, there wasn't much movement.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: He did well.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: And the right tackle, Brian O'Neal, I thought he was really effective in the mud.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So good day there.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Now let's go to the running backs.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: O'Connell ran the ball a lot in this game,
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: which is so surprising to see Kevin O'Connell after,
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: what, this is his fifth year, I think.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: He just has never done this.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And he's had kind of a change of heart.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: And it's impressive to see a veteran coach, a successful coach.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: He hasn't won a playoff game, but he's done very well regular season.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Make some changes in his philosophy.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: He doesn't even have Mason who's injured with a thumb injury, didn't play.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So he's got Aaron Jones,
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: the rookie Damond Claiborne and a seven or eight year veteran, DJ Dallas.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: That's his three backs.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: So Jones plays 42 out of 52 and he had a great game.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: He had how many touches?
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: 23 carries for 105.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Boy, that's the most he's had in a long time, and he never had a catch.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: 23 for 105.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: First of all, you can run at the Bears.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: They have problems with their interior defense.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: We'll get to them in a bit.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: But O'Connell sensed that.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Jones sensed it, and they attacked.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: First play of the game, nine yards for Jones on a big surge off left side.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: A fine cutback behind the fullback, Bredesen, who played 17 snaps, gain of six.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: He went outside once for minus three.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: It was a bad decision on Jones's part.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Pass protection, very good on several times.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: We know Aaron Jones can pass block.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: We saw all those years in Green Bay.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: He got injured, limped off early in the fourth, came back.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's still a damn good back.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: He packs punch, he hits a hole hard.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not going to really outrun a young cornerback to go 70,
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: 60 yards like he probably could in the past.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: But he's still a really fine back.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Claiborne, two snaps.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, I want to see this guy.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: But I remember the scouts.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: He's the rookie from Wake Forest.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Scouts wondered about his mental discipline and ability to handle the pro game early.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: And so that might be a problem.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: I have no idea of that.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: And DJ Dallas is just a big banger.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the quarterback.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Carson Wentz, his 100th start.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: He's now 50-49-1.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Right away, Bush, the linebacker, drops a pick at the Bears 11.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: He got lucky there.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: High snap from center.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I thought he should have handled it better than he did.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: He overthrew Addison on third and three, the guys wide open.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Quarterback sneak, fourth and one, he got it.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: He threw a terrible ball to Jefferson in the flat.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: He held the ball 4.0,
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: sack, threw a terrible deep ball to Jefferson, overthrew an open Jefferson.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: That could have been a 68-yard touchdown.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: But he didn't have a turnover.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: The ball was wet.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: The crowd was on him.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: He did not have a turnover, and they won the game.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: Now, Tyler, what are they going to do now?
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Do
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: they feel Murray can do the things that now O'Connell wants and is moving towards
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: with his offense, or do they stick with Wentz?
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I guess they're starting Murray, right?
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: But he didn't look very good, those 11 snaps against Green Bay.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: So how do you see the Vikes
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: on offense, Tyler?
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: It's 11 snaps, though, too, right?
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: I have a hard time judging.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: It wasn't pretty.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: He threw an interception.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: He looked small, got hurt.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Boy, that's a small sample size, though,
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: to base a decision off of that when for several months you saw him
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: in practice running the offense you want to run,
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: probably more so when the fans aren't there.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: But that's a big thing right now, by the way.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Mike McDonald did an interview,
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: I think it was with Graham Bessinger,
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: on how pissed off Sean Payton was,
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: that they basically took fan videos from training camp and knew what Denver wanted
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: to do a couple years ago.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: So teams are doing that.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: So these fans that record all these videos at practice and throw them on Twitter,
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: these teams, they're watching all these clips.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: So you're only hurting your own team, by the way.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I think they have a plan for Kyler Murray.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: And I think that...
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: Even though he's 5'10 and below standard,
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: below the ideal stature at the position, they've got a plan.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: They'll get him on the move.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: They'll create different launch points.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: They want to create this new world for Justin Jefferson,
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Jordan Addison,
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: in conjunction with this wide zone,
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: inside zone, rejuvenated Aaron Jones rushing attack, which we can get into, too.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: I chatted again with Aaron Jones this summer.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: I'm not surprised by his game.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: At quarterback, though, I think you've got to go Murray.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: To me, what an indictment of J.J. McCarthy, where you draft a quarterback that high, what, 10?
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: And he's in his third year.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: He's not even your number two because you'd think he'll screw up.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah,
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: they're probably thrilled with Carson Wentz's game,
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: as ugly as it was, because he didn't turn it over.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: That's the whole point.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Just don't turn it over.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Don't give it to the other team.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: And they didn't do it.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: And points were at a premium.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: It's looking like a colossal bust.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, the fact that J.J. McCarthy can't even get on the field as a number two.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: So in that setting, you got Wentz at 6'5", Murray's at 5'10".
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Wentz took the Wunderlich twice, 29 and 40.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: He had a big discrepancy in his two tests.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Murray took it once, had a 20.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you see Murray winning this game the way he went?
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Would he have been the winning quarterback Sunday?
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: That's a great question because he will put himself in harm's way
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: In haphazard situations, maybe he does turn it over once, maybe twice.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: But I think he makes more plays.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: I think some way, somehow, he creates where Carson Wentz doesn't create.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Because, look, I mean, we saw the Packers game, too.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: It's Carson Wentz.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: It's Carson Wentz for a reason.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: He's not very good,
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: T. He's not very good.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, when...
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: And Kevin O'Connell,
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: who's just this beacon of positivity in front of a microphone at all times
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: when basically all you can say is on offense,
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: what we do great right now is not turn the ball over.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: That's not going to win you Super Bowls.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: And this is a team that genuinely thinks it can contend for a Super Bowl.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: You're not going to do it with Carson Wentz.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can do it with Kyler Murray.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Get him out there.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Take.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Take whatever lumps, work whatever rust you have to work off.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Pray and hope he stays healthy.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Maybe I mentioned it last week.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: One of the quiet storylines of the 2025 season is the way that
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: the Minnesota defense played down the stretch.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I talked to a player on that defense who truly believed that
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: if they would have snuck into the playoffs, they could have done some damage.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Didn't matter if it was J.J. McCarthy, Max Brosmer, whoever at quarterback.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Brad Johnson, pick your random Viking.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Jeff George, dust him off.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: They felt that good about their command of Brian Flores' scheme, which we're going to get into.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: But in your experience, Bob,
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: covering this game since 1979,
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: have you ever seen a team win,
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: what is it,
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: seven in a row with Objectively bad quarterback play back to last season.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Well, the last
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: five are kind of garbage time.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, nobody's taken.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, I looked at their schedule.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Yes, they beat Green Bay and Detroit in the last two games.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: But prior to that, they defeated Washington, Dallas and the Giants.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: All having hideous seasons at that point.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it happens.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm going to talk about a Packer team in the memory that.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Won six out of seven down the stretch.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: That was a poor team.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: But they catch fire late when you're out of it.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: They were two and six and then caught fire.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: So it happens.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: I just don't know about the Vikings, Tyler.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Would you say they were a consensus pick almost to finish fourth in the division?
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe outside of Go Long, we've been fairly bullish on these Minnesota Vikings.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: I love Brian Flores.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: That's why I wrote on him.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: He's cantankerous, gnarly, rough around the edges.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: I think he's probably grown since the Miami days.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: You know, he has to.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: It was bad.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And organically,
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: when his name has come up,
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: and I link to a few of those stories, make it Fitzpatrick.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: My Bleacher Report days just went off on his role and how he clashed with Flores.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, he really clashed with Tua.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: They went at it at halftime of that Dolphins-Titans game late in the year.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: A lot of players hated his coaching style because he is rough around the edges.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: He is so point-blank.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: And in between, Lynn Bowen Jr., I don't know if you remember that story.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: He has not set the league on fire,
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: but I did do a feature on him,
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: and he was very optimistic about his chances in Miami,
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: moving off of the Raiders and Gruden and that whole deal.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: And it really takes everybody behind the curtain how bad it was in Raider land.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: And he said, like, really nice things about Flores in that story.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: And I had actually multiple sources tell me that when that story came out and kind
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: of went viral in the offseason, Flores was pissed.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: And used Bowden as an example in front of the whole team.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Put the story up.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: Basically just...
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Reading him the riot act for even talking to me,
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: doing something like this in the offseason, which is pretty ridiculous.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: So the Flores, yet his defenses are always good, always nasty.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: I think coaches can evolve, can learn.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: And in a world that is going soft,
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: in a society that is,
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: you know, you got to live your truth and you don't want to hurt anybody's feelings.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Look, football is still a ruthless profession.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: And it helps to have a ruthless coach whose scheme,
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: which you're going to get into here, is a reflection of that.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: His players buy in.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: They just freaking attack.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: They want to rip your face off.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: They've been blitzing at this insane rate.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Jordan Love one week.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Caleb Williams the next.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Players love it.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: They take ownership of it.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: You have freedom within this scheme.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Blake Cashman, Harrison Smith, you can check those features out.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: They really break it down.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Blake Cashman,
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: the example he uses is when he came over from the Jets,
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: and this defense is so complex,
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: and he's learning it on the fly,
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: and he's the middle backer that will be wearing the green dot.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: At practice,
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: he's like,
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Flo, this receiver is wide open on this particular pressure that we're using.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: What are we going to do about this guy?
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Floor's like, don't worry about him.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: We're going to have so much heat the quarterback's face the other direction.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: I don't give a shit about that guy being wide open.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: And a lot of coordinators, a lot of defensive coaches, they don't put their balls on the table.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: They're afraid.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: It's keep everything in front of you.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Make the offense go 15 plays.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Wait for them to get a penalty.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Wait for them to screw up.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: And the Vikings are like, no, we're going to be the sledgehammer.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: We're going to take it to you.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: And the fact that they got Harrison Smith back,
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: the glue in the secondary in year 15,
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: can't move like he wants to move, but you need his brains in this defense.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Cashman and Eric Wilson, I mean, every play, one of them is blitzing.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Andrew Van Ginkle can play anywhere.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: And oh, by the way, Dallas Turner may be a star.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I love this defense.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: I still love the offense's potential,
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: and they don't even need to be a top five offense for this team to be
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: a Super Bowl contender.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: And I do think you hit on it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: They're committed to the run game in a new way.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: Kevin O'Connell has to stick with it more than he has.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: And Aaron Jones, if you believe Aaron Jones, he'll be 32 this year.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: He is still gunning for the Hall of Fame.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: When his dad was on his deathbed, he made a promise to him that he will be in Canton one day.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: And he wants to keep that promise.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: We talked about it again this summer.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: He is driven to be immortalized in this sport.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Took a pay cut to stay.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: You know, what we talked about last season, I love this quote.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: He said,
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: we still have that hunger,
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: that bitter taste in our mouth, and you can tell there's an urgency around here.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Love the coaching staff.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Love the support staff.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Love everything about this building.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And it goes on and on.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: They're pissed how last season ended.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: They think they've got the talent.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: They just need a quarterback to click into place to get over that hump.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: I love that we differ on the Vikings.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's good.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: We got to disagree.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Right now,
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: they're the best team in the division,
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: and I think the two best things going in the NFL right now is Josh Allen
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: and Joe Brady in Buffalo.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: We're seeing him unleashed in new ways, and Brian Flores' defense in Minnesota.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: Let me mention this, too.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: The Vikings have no injuries at this point, except Masons.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: And he'll be back.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: None.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Their defense is intact.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Now it's only two games, but that's not going to hold.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: A lot of adversity strikes in this business, but they're off to a great start.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: All right, let's look at their people, Tyler.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: They'll get Jawan Jennings back too.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: He missed this one with, you know, a personal matter.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely the family.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Their front.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: Redmond, 62.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Snaps.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Rodriguez, 60.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Banks, 36.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: And the other rookie, Dominique Orange.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Big Citrus, is it?
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: 24.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: He said that so serious.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Big Citrus.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: Is that the formal name?
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: The Bears have a good running,
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: a good offensive line.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: They have good backs.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: And they didn't really get much.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: 31 for 134, 4.3.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Um, the Vikings were tough.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Um, all right.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Redmond is a hell of a player.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Um, God,
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: one time he knocked Darnell Wright to his knees on a one-on-one run play at
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: the point of attack.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Man, Darnell Wright is a huge guy.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: He just deposited him on the deck.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Um, He got that force fumble on the one, the right hand punch out.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, that really turned the game.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Swift is going to go into the end zone on that thing.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: He had a couple three pressures.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: He had a bat.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: He's just a really good player.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Rodriguez didn't get much done.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: He had a roughing the passer penalty.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: He's just a big guy.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Rodriguez is 6'2".
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: No, he's not.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: He's 6'2 on the nose, 300.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Kind of short arms.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: in 2024,
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: remember they were playing with Jonathan Bullard,
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: Harrison Phillips, and Jerry Tillery?
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Those guys were just holding the fort, but they did a decent job.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Did they win the division that year?
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Made the playoffs, I think.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Detroit, 272.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: Who can forget?
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Then last year, they went with the old guys, Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargraves.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: It was a mistake.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Those guys...
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: They're over the hill.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Now they got young people.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Redmond and Rodriguez start.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Then you got the two rookies.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: The first round pick, Banks.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: You know, he's a massive guy.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: He's a controversial pick.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: 6'6", 327, 35-inch arm, 10-7, 8-hand.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a monster.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: How did he play in this game?
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Better than he did in the first game.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I liked a lot of it.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Now, he's up against Garrett Bradbury, and we know Bradbury.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: He got penetrated early against Bradbury.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: He missed the play in the backfield, but it screwed it up.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: He got a flush.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: He ran over Joe Thune.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Not many people can do that with a bull rush.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Tackle for loss.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: He stuffed the left tackle.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Theo Benedett.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: He got blocked by Colston Lovell on the tight end and Munmungai went right by him, gain of 15.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: He played high.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: At times he's on roller skates.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: There was a run there for a gain of 12.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: That's what happened to him.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: But then he came back and he stuffed Thune for a game of one.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: So it's going to be his third game.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: If he keeps improving the way he did between one and two,
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: he's going to be a real factor for that front.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Now, Dominique Orange, you know, he's massive.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: 330, six, two and a half.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: He had the quarterback sneak stuff last week against Green Bay.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: They put him in the lineup on that third and one.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: He displaced Bradbury just automatically.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, he pancaked on the goal line against Bradbury.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: He stuffed Bradbury on another run for zero.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: The guy's a factor and he's going to be a short yardage demon.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: He's going to be there a long time.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: He's just like an old fashioned three, four nose.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: He's effective.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the, uh, and Ingram Dawkins went out after 12 snaps with a hip.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Outside you got Ben Van Ginkle.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Playing all 64.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: You got Turner playing five, nine and Kyle Vannoy, the expatriate and wherever else he's been.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: 18.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Turner.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: What'd you call him, Tyler?
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: A budding superstar or something?
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: He played as well here as he did the first game.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: And I didn't think that was going to be possible.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: The tight end,
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: the rookie tight end,
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Roush from the Bears, Sam Roush, he stuffed the tight end at the point of attack.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: He had a flush against Cole Komet, who had a terrible game blocking.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: He had a flush against Swift, left against Turner, that's a mismatch.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: He did have a roughing the passer penalty.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: You know, he's pretty damn good at the point of attack, Tyler.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: He's not just a guy flying up the field.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: He's done an honest job against the run,
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: which makes him so much more, more better football player.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: He had an unblocked flush, a flush setting up a sack.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: He had a sack against Komet.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: He had a knockdown when he chased, you know, he chases all over the field and he had a sack.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: He bull rushed into Bajit and that ended the game.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: 3.3 seconds on that.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: A suplex.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: A WWE smackdown of a sack.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: He's concussed.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: He's in concussion protocol.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: I didn't think that.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: That's where it had to occur.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: I don't think he was hit other than that.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: It had to have, man.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: It looks like he got smashed on his head.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Which I'm glad the refs didn't call that, right?
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: All the insane roughing the passer, unsportsmanly conduct penalties that we get in today's game.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Can you imagine if they did that on the last play of the game?
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: I'm glad they didn't.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, Van Ginkle.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: We know the guy.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: He had a run stuff.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: He had an offsides penalty, a sack against Benedict, a flush.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: He missed Caleb on a scramble,
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: gained an extra eight,
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: knocked down against Komet, knocked down on a chase hustle play.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: He's a good player.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: He was good at Wisconsin.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: He was good at Miami, and he's good here in Minnesota.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: And then Van Noy, he had a quiet 18 snaps.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Now the inside backers, they play every snap.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Cashman 66, the green dot, and Wilson 66, the ex-Packer, where else?
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: They're healthy,
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: and if they can stay healthy,
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: along with Harrison Smith, they're kind of the brains of this operation.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Cashman, man, he's got a nose for the ball.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: He is fast to the ball, isn't he, Tyler?
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Man, I mean,
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: And you know,
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: when he gets there, I mean,
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: he's not a real big guy,
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: but when he gets there, I think he has a lot of just body strength.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: He's only 6'1", but he is 235 coming out.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: He ran 4.47.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: This is a speed backer.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: And I still think in his eighth year, he still runs pretty well.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: He's a smart guy.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, he hog wrestled Monungay one time,
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: and Monungay does not go down easily, and he just Corral them and took them down.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Wilson, we saw him in Green Bay every game.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: We saw him last year in Minnesota.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: He got the money.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Three-year, 22.5, 12.5 guaranteed.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: They paid him.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: He missed a tackle on Kalief Raymond,
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: but he is a very, again, like Cashman, a very staunch tackler.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Is that the word, staunch?
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, with all that pushing and shoving and the scrums nowadays,
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: When Wilson and Cashman get guys,
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: they just kind of stop the scrum and they stop it right there.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: They are fierce hitters, man.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Wilson's a pad popper.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: He had a tip on the tip ball on a blitz.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: And then Pace, you know, the little guy comes in, he plays 14 snaps.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: He made that play on the goal line, giving Redmond time to get over and force the fumble.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: He made that damn play.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: He's okay.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's small, but he's okay.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: Now the secondary.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: So they got no injuries.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: So Murphy moves to the slot in nickel and Pierre, the ex-stealer, comes into right corner.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: And Rodgers is the other outside guy.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Murphy played every snap, 74.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like the Detroit corners.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: All three of those guys are willing to hit.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: He's physical against the run.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: He's not afraid.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: He's a very tough, low tackle.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Showed good hands on the pick.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: He had a sideline breakup.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: On that screen pass to Swift second half, he missed the tackle, extra 22.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: That's a black mark.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to Rodgers.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: He had a fumble recovery on the Swift bobble.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: He missed on that screen pass to Swift, extra 24, where he missed.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: But he will lower his head and hit.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: Rodgers is only 5'9 and 3'4, 171 coming out.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: But there were some knocks on him about being timid against the run coming out.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: I don't see it anymore for a little guy.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: And then Pierre is a real aggressive ex-stealer.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Now, Pierre only ran 4, 5, 6 coming out seven years ago.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: He's not a speed guy, and teams are going to find that and expose him.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: But, you know, he's been smart so far and he's physical.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the safeties.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Metellus played every snap.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: He's a quick fill tough guy.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: He beat Jotty Walker one time, made a tackle for one yard.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: He's a hitter.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: He had a breakup on a pass at the one.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Theo Jackson played 50 snaps, had a broke up a pass at the one.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Jacob Thomas, a second-year guy.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: They're Jacobian Jacob.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Jacob was the guy playing this week.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: I thought they trusted him pretty much.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: He played eight snaps.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: He had a knockdown that led to that interception on a chase.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: And then Harrison Smith, he had 29 snaps this week.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: He gets up on the right side of the line, you know, and you don't know what he's going to do.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: He knows how to bail quick into a proper zone drop.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're dropping into zones primarily.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: You know how hard that is, Tyler, to orchestrate that darn thing?
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: And Harrison helps Flores all the way.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: No wonder they wanted him back.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And he's healthy and he's playing pretty good.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, he plays cat and mouse with QBs.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: He doesn't really go in there and whiff on sacks.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: He just kind of hangs in there.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: He's a smart player.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the special teams, right guard.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Hit from 35-49 and 39-39 off the right upright.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: He was two for four getting those kickoffs either on the number or outside.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: That's the point, I think.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Thorson is kind of deliberate.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: I wonder if he's going to get something blocked.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: He had six punts.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: He had good numbers.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: 49-5, 44-5, 4.35.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Rodgers came off that edge and blocked the field goal.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about that when we get to the Bears.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: And Price is a threat as a return guy, dual returner.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: That's it on the Vikes, T.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Man, so many thoughts.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: Dallas Turner.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: So he fell in the draft.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, fall, rise, who really knows where anybody's supposed to go?
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: I thought he'd go earlier.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: Didn't you think he'd go earlier, too, thinking back to the series?
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Would he go like 14 or 15, something like that?
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Lower than that.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Weren't they like at 20 that year?
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Let's
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: take a look here.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Hang tight here.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: That should be at the tip of our tongues.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: 17.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: 17 overall.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: 17, okay.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because Atlanta passed on him for Penix.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: That was a spot that seemed realistic.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: Anyways,
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: so when they,
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: I think that that decision with Jonathan Grenard is kind of symbolic of where
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: the Minnesota Vikings are as a franchise.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: They're moving off of Kwesi Dofa Mensa, right?
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: And they're in limbo.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: They didn't even have a GM at that point.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Jonathan Grenard wants money in the range of 100 mil.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Minnesota doesn't, Really want to tear everything down.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: They don't want to go F them picks and screw the future.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: They want to be in a position where, okay,
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: you get to the trade deadline and you can really go either direction as a franchise
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: with a new GM.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Do we pawn off assets for picks?
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: Do we go for it?
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe make a trade?
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: So I think that Grenard trade was interesting.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: So you get a pair of third round picks.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: You don't have to pay him that money.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: You maintain a little cat flexibility.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: And they know how good Grenard is, even though his numbers were a little down last year.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: He's their best pass rusher, and he fits the scheme, all of that.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: So the big bet is Dallas Turner is going to emerge.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: And if he does, then you can start fashioning yourself as his contender.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: If he's a bust, then maybe you go the other direction.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, the franchise could really pivot.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: I'm Dallas Turner alone.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's the key to this whole thing.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Like you've got the, the dude to know the scheme and they're going to get everybody lined up.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: You mentioned it.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Cashman, Wilson, Harrison Smith coming in at the 11th hour.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: There were unknowns on the D line, like Jalen Redman.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, I, I mean,
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: maybe they,
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: maybe they knew he was this good all along or could at least hold his own.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: And there's still some, some youth up there on the front.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: But you need a stud.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: You need a dude who's going to scare the opposition.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: And Dallas Turner's numbers, it's two games.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: It's only two games.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: But it is kind of nuts.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: So he's...
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: First in the NFL in pressures with 20.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: First in quarterback hits with 11.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Second in sacks with three.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: This is the stat I really like.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: We can laugh about the pressure stat,
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: but there's this quick pressures,
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: which is when you get there in 2.5 seconds or less,
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: he leads the NFL with 10 of those.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: It hasn't really mattered, I mean,
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: whether it's a tight end on him,
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: an offensive tackle,
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: but the beauty of Flores' scheme is like up to the snap,
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: It's hard for the offense to figure out who's blitzing, who's dropping.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: They play their cards so well.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Watch the Vikings defense.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: You see it, Bob.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: There's a bunch of guys up there.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: You don't really know who's doing what.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: And the play clock's dripping down to zero.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: Blake Cashman hit on this after the Packers game.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: And the running back's going to lean a certain way.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: And the tackle's going to lean a certain way.
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: And they can adjust on the fly to the point where Dallas Turner,
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: this freak of nature, is not even blocked on one of those sacks against the Bears.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, he's built like an Adonis.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: And if this is who they're going to have all season, two games, it's early.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: This could be one of the best defenses in football.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: And one other note, Isaiah Rogers, did you catch his celebration, Bob?
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't see that.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, man.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: The kids were loving it.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: So we're, Rocco is really into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and, you know, Sonny and Ella.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: They don't protest if it's on in the morning.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: But Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, for those, they might be giants, a great band from the 90s.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: They actually supply the musical
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: jingles to many kids' shows, including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: And it's, I won't sing it.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: Everybody who watches, they know the jam, but Donald Duck.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: Has his dance move that he does in it.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: And Isaiah Rogers did it.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: And I actually tweeted it out.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: I can't think of his name.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: There's a great Vikings content creator there on Twitter who put the dance
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: with Donald Duck and blended it in with the song.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: And I quote tweeted it.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: I was like, man, this is peak fatherhood right here.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: His kids must have absolutely lost to A+.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: And Isaiah Rogers responded and said, yeah, he did it for his son.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: His son loves the song.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that was awesome.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: That was awesome.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: That's why we need celebrations in football.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: All he does is make plays.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: The Cincinnati game last year, remember the pick sixes and all that mayhem he created?
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: They got a lot of players that create a lot of problems.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Let me mention one more thing on the defense.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: You know, Josh Metellus, he's been there six years.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: He's another brainiac back now.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: He's playing center field now.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: He had 26 on the test.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: This guy's really smart.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: He and Harrison Smith and Theo Jackson.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Jackson had 19, the other safety, and I think he's been there five years.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they got bright people who can handle Flores' machinations.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, rain or no rain, the Bears scored 59 points last week.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: They had three at home, home opener, three.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the Bears, Tyler.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the Bears.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: So Johnson is now – he was 5-1 against Flores.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: Now he's 5-2, right.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, the receiving core, let's just go to it.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Um, didn't really get the ball.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: Roma Dunsey dropped a slant.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: Burden, um, his second target came with 24 seconds left in the third quarter.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: He dropped it out.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: He made a fine catch on a ball behind him.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Colston Loveland, I don't know, he's, he was targeted three times, caught one for three.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: He's been a pass blocker or a run blocker, really hasn't been used.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: He gave up a sack, uh, To Turner on that walk-off, Cole Komet.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Boy, what a disappointment.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: You know, gives up a flush to Turner.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: He gives up a flush to Van Ginkle.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: He gives up half a sack.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Bad run against Redmond.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Illegal formation.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: He was off the line.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Knocked down to Van Ginkle.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: He did kill Wilson once at the point of attack.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: Play gained 15.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: But he's got to be better than that.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: And then the backup tight end, the Roush kid, he's a seventh-round pick.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: No, he's a third-round pick.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: He did not play well.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Bad run against Van Ginkle, illegal shift, wiped out a 15-yarder to Loveland.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: He dropped a two-yard hook.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: He dropped the ball at the one.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: He's got to be better than that.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: And Kalief Raymond really wasn't a factor.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Played 46 snaps, though, and Jotty Walker, seven.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: And the speed demon, Zavian Thomas, only played two.
- 49:17SPEAKER_00: You know, they're going to try to incorporate him pretty quick.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, Zavian Thomas ran 4-2-6, if you remember.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: 5-10 and a half, 192.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the line.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: Let's go from left to right.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: So Braxton Jones started at left tackle, 5-5 on the snaps.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: Teal Benedict played 19, kind of their little alternations.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Jones, he was good.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: Benedict was good.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: No problems with those guys.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Joe Thune had a couple problems with, who was it?
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: Banks, I believe we discussed.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: The center, Bradbury.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: He had a holding penalty against Rodriguez.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: He had an illegal snap.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: He had a hole against Cashman on a run block when he grabbed Cashman's ankles.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: He was just grasping for anything to control that inside backer.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: He had a false start.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: He did not get a hand on pace on that fateful goal line forced fumble.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: He got pancaked by Orange and so he couldn't get to pace.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: And then he had another bad run against Orange.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's really a bad game.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Now, are they going to stick with him?
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: Or are they going to go to Logan Jones, the second round pick from Iowa?
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: We shall see.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: The right guard, Jackson and Wright.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, they were solid.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: I got almost no negative for either one of them.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: One knockdown for Jackson.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: All right, the running backs.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Swift 50, Monongai 25 snaps.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: Swift 21 touches 99, Monongai 12 for 58.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: Arm tackles just do not stop Monongai.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: Gain of 15, he just runs through people, man.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: He's a fighter, he gets extra yards.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Fourth and one, he got that conversion on just guts alone at right guard.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: Good player, except for that fumble at the goal line.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Can't have it, Tyler.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: He broke two tackles on that screen.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Great effort.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the quarterback.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: 64 snaps for Williams, 10 for Bajit.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Second play of the game, he fumbled from under center, picked it up, and ran for 16.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is the magic he has.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: He eluded Turner on a dead right sack, scrambles for six.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: He got a delay penalty.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: He had a terrible interception on the run.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: He threw it back inside over Burton.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Murphy made the diving catch.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: He had an intentional grounding call.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: Now into the second half, he scrambled up the middle for 11.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: No one was open.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: He took off.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: Third and eight,
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: he eluded an unblocked Turner,
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: hit Kalief Raymond on the left side for eight, first down.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: He was dead to rights on that one too.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: Third and five, they're backed up.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: He scrambles for 10, made Van Ginkle miss.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's doing things.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Next play he had all day, Jirola Dunze for 15.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: He had 5.1 seconds on that.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: That had to be the longest he had time in that game.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: He had no time.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: And then he got injured on the keeper, non-contact injury, right hamstring, 720 left.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Now let's go to Bajan.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Five out of nine for 54.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: I like Bajan.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's been there.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Let's look him up because we're going to be seeing him now.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: Bajan is 6'3", 215.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: He's got great dimensions.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Ran 4'7", 8".
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: 27 on the test.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Smart kid.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: 36, Burt, 10-0.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: He's a good athlete.
- 53:23SPEAKER_01: He's one of the few quarterbacks nowadays who did the jumping.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: Hand is okay, nine and a half.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: Four, three, six on the short shuttle.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: So the guy's been around.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: This is his fourth year.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: We've seen him start some games.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: He's pretty good, Tyler.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'd put him in the upper...
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: 40% of NFL backups right now.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: And he did pretty good in this game.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: I'm just looking here.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's trying.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: He's got to get in the end zone.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: Nobody got in the end zone all day.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: He's going to be better than that.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, shoved into a moment like that is pretty tough.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: So it looks like they go with Bajit, but he's got the concussion.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: So who's the other one?
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: Case Keenum?
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: Case Keenum.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: And we've seen Case Keenum play some pretty good football, especially in Minnesota, I believe.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, Bob, that was six years ago.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: No, longer than that.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: How long?
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: 2017, that's eight years ago.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: How many starts in his career?
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: Do you have it all there?
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: 17 or 18.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, because then he got the shot with Denver, and it was not that pretty.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: Let's pull it up here.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: What do you know while I look this up?
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Well, actually, here it is.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: That magical season with the Vikings was in 2017.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: So, he goes to Denver, then Washington, then Cleveland, then Buffalo, then Houston.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: He's a well-traveled individual.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: You know, Tyler,
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: I think on the NFC North team in 2017,
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: he might have tied with Rodgers for first team all North.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: I kind of remember that.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure I can look that up, but yeah.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: All right, so what about the Bear offense?
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: How do you see it, Tyler?
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: Wow, he's going to turn 39 years old.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: I remember talking to him out of the draft at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: He put up all those numbers in Houston.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: He's doing something right to last this long.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: That's impressive.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: What do you know about hamstring injuries?
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: Because I know that you're not very online, which is what I love about you, Bob.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: But it's the talk of the town with one Caleb Williams.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: Because when he goes down,
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: judging by his reaction,
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: screaming in agony,
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: towel over the head, carted off, takes it off, in tears, fist bumping.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: those are the type of reactions we see from players who are going to be out for
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: a very long time.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: I think initially it's like, oh my God, is it an Achilles?
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, is it an ACL?
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: The non-contact, the dreaded non-contact injury.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: And then we find out, oh, he's in the locker room.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: He's walking around.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: He's in good spirits.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: He broke the team down.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: He just has a very slight limp per reporters on the scene.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: And then national reports come out that it's this mild hamstring injury,
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: potentially just a grade one.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, you've covered this league forever.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: If it's a grade one hamstring injury,
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I guess those things, if you rush it back too soon, could it layer up?
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: But, man.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: I see him, just a guess, a month maybe.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: A month?
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: Three or four games.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Do you think more like one?
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: The discourse is fairly drunk at the moment around it.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: Have you ever heard the term meme, Bob?
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Does that mean anything to you, a meme?
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Look at you.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: You're up on the time, so I'm sorry.
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: That's dope.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: How dare I patronize you like that, Bob McGinn?
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, my God.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: You know what a meme is.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Well, he has become a meme.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: It's a nationwide craze of him fist bumping and tears and everyone mocking him
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: with their own justification for such a reaction such as the one that actually kind
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: of made me do this.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Just slept on the extremely uncomfortable bed that they give dads inside
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: the delivery rooms with their wives.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: It's one after another on there.
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: It's pretty brutal.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: But, I mean, look,
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: I think the source of that tears is like in the moment you're driving to score,
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: to win.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: It's been a rough day.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: You think you're going to finish this drive.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: You're scared.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: You don't know what.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: Initially, this injury is and how long it's going to keep.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: I'm sure there were all kinds of emotions.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: He's an emotional guy.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: We saw back to USC.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know how long he's going to be out.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not a doctor.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: No clue.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: would it shock you if he's this conquering hero and by Monday night he's playing
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: against the Eagles?
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: You've got a fear re-injury re-pulling these hammies.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: He's not playing this week.
- 58:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they've got to hold serve with somebody else because, yeah, those hammies.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Who are they playing Monday?
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: Philadelphia.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: Vic Fangio.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: That's what's interesting.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: You know, Fangio is the antithesis of Flores, right?
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: He doesn't blitz.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: He runs his stuff.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens, but it will not be Caleb Williams, we don't think, anyways.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the D.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: So Kevin O'Connell was able to possess that ball.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know, 27 for 19.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, the bike's only at 246.
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: But they were able to hang in with Aaron Jones.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: They didn't have their power back.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: I think...
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: You know, the Bears, let's look at the Bears.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: They've had some big nose tackles in recent years.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Remember, we talked about Andrew Billings, and I always liked the guy.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: He was 6'1", about 340.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: He did some good things in there.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: And then they tried with Jonathan Ford, who's starting for Green Bay now, 6'5", 330.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: But that's about all I've done in the last four years.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: They traded Jervon Dexter, who's 6'5 1⁄2", 315.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: He's not a nose, but he's the biggest guy they had inside.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: He was okay against the run.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: So now they're playing Cartavious Smith.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: What's his name?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Ken Tavious and Grady Jarrett.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, Jarrett's, you know, he's like 32 and he's just undersized.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: Six foot, one half inch, 301.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: And Street came out at 6'2", 281.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: It's 300 now.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_01: Neville Gelmer, the ex-Cowboy, he's only 6'2".
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: He's not a big nose.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: Vandenberg's more of a three tech.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: He's not a big guy.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: 6'3", 310.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: So they just...
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: And the big problem in their interior run defense is Devin Bush,
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: but we'll get to him in a second.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: So they started James Lynch, who's...
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Six, three and a half, 290.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: And they started him at power end.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: And he was, I mean, he had some problems.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: He started for O'Day Ingbo.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: He stuffed Oliver one time, but then he got run stuffed by Oliver.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Street is an undersized veteran, 28 snaps for him, 28 for Lynch.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: He finds the ball.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: He's instinctive, but he's not a hole up guy in there.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: Jarrett, I thought he played pretty good, but they ran at him.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: He gets buckled.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: He gets buried.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a great old campaigner.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: He penetrated, got to run stuff for no gain.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a threat to make a play.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: He always is.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_01: But he's also a threat to get just Velcroed.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: 37 snaps for him.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_01: Gallimore 19, Vandenberg 9.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_01: All right, on the outside, Montez Sweat had one flush.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: He didn't do anything.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_01: Booker didn't do anything except he had one sack on a stunt.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, I got him no pressures.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Odi Ingbo had one knockdown.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Their front really got outplayed.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: Now let's go to the backers.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_01: All right, Devin Bush.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: He came from Pittsburgh.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: Where were his salad years, Tyler?
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: Devin Bush.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: He came from Michigan and then He had good years.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: Cleveland.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_01: Cleveland first.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: No, Pittsburgh first, then Cleveland.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: All right, he's 5'11", 231.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_01: He ran great, 4'4", 5", but he's had terrible injuries, right?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: A couple of them, I think.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: He's smart, 27.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: Tyler, all those running plays, 31, 28 rushes by the Vikes.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: He was a non-factor.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: He was on the ground, getting shoved around.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: He's a non-entity.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, Tremaine Edmonds had a lot of, had some liabilities.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: They let him walk, if I remember.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: Wasn't a trade, he walked.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: He's a big guy.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: Edmonds is 6'4 1⁄2", 251.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: He's huge.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: T.J. Edwards is 6'1 1⁄2", 227 coming out.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: He's on the small side.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: Now he's instinctive as heck, but You got Bush and Edwards and then Jackson on the weak side.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: Now he played 25 snaps.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: He's only six foot one half inch, 234.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: They are small.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: That's a small front seven, man.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: Edwards.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's smart.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: He reads a screen.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: He makes some great tackles in space, but he can't cover.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: He gets exposed.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_01: Addison proved that.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, he just struggles in space.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: Jackson.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: So that's their linebacker core.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: They got problems.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: And now in the secondary, I mean, they don't have Kyler Gordon.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_01: Muhammad's been a good rookie replacement for him.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: Their safety is Thieneman.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Um, he's a willing force guy.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: He has instincts.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: He can run, but he's a rookie.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: I think he had the blown assignment on that 19 yard pass to Oliver, kind of a delay.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: Um, He broke up a touchdown to Jefferson, 17 yards.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: He had a solid game.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: Stevenson, he had some problems.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_01: He will tackle.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: He's a tough guy.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: I like that about the guy, but he had some problems, and then he got hurt late.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Jalen Johnson is not playing back to where he was in his Pro Bowl days a couple,
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_01: three years ago.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: Hands to the face.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: Lewis, the ex-Bill Tyler, he's a smasher, but he's very small.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: Woods came off the ex-Titan.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: I think Cowboy played 14 snaps.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, they missed Kobe Bryant, no question.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: All right, Santos hit from 50.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: He had to block from 23.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_01: Taylor, Torrey, four punts, 48-8, 46-0, 4-2-2.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: The first field goal attempt, it was a high snap from the rookie Bo Gardner.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: The second field goal
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_01: snap was also somewhat high.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: It was bobbled by Taylor, the holder, 1.51 seconds from snap to block.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: Rouse did not get any glove over on Rogers off,
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: but coming off that left side, a double clutch by the holder block city, man.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_01: Thomas, the speedster, he doesn't run very hard.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Xavier and Thomas,
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not going to pour it in there like Miles Price or Kalief Raymond even.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: He had three kickoffs for 22-7.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: Raymond had a 24-yard punt return.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: That's it for the Bears, Tyler.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: They go to one and one.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: I love the format of this pod, Bob, because when you really do – Go position to position.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_00: Who did well?
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: Who struggled?
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: Who's a liability?
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: Who's a strength?
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: Because I think like nationally,
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: the discourse from Monday up till kickoff on Sunday is so quarterback centric.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: And I get it to a point.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, an elite quarterback can rise all tides and make problems go away.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: And Maybe a player like Caleb Williams is that force for the Chicago Bears.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_00: But when you really look at their roster constructed,
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: I think Ben Johnson does have some gravity at Hall's Hall now.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: He wouldn't take this job if he didn't.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_00: But he's dealing with a lot of Ryan Poles' mistakes.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: And when you look at it,
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: Even a linebacker,
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_00: for instance,
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: Blake Cashman,
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: Eric Wilson there in Minnesota, they've mastered Brian Flores' scheme.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: They're nasty, like you said.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_01: They fly on shit.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: If there's a running back there, if there's a receiver there, they hit them, they're down.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_00: Done.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: Game over.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_00: Instinctive on top of that.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_00: Not the case with Chicago's linebackers.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: they kind of scrambled there this offseason with Devin Bush,
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_00: and there's a reason he's available at the price he's available
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: at It's not just him, not to pick on him, but they never really found a pass rusher.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_00: They don't have a Dallas Turner down the pike that scares you.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_00: Who's all of a sudden going to merge is that holy bleep,
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_00: we got to stop this player, take him out of the game threat.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: They don't really have that.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_00: They're going to need,
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: like Ben Johnson's talking about scoring more points than any team in NFL history,
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: that excellent story written by our pal Dan Pompei at The Athletic.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_00: He probably knows that they're going to have to do something like that or close to
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: if they're going to be a contender.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_00: Because there's holes on this roster.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: Looks like all four teams are going to be in this for a long time, don't you think?
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: We'll go to the Packers next.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_00: You never know.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know, though.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll get to great.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_00: You never know.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: The last two years, everybody's been in it, and I kind of think they will.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: But okay, so we go to Green Bay, Tyler?
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, geez,
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_00: the quarterbacks that went down this week,
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_00: Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, and then the worst of them all, Jackson Dart.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_01: Isn't that crazy?
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_01: All these rules, all this protection for quarterbacks, everybody
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: kind of in agreement.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_00: We've got to officiate the game a certain way to protect this player, and it doesn't matter.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: They're still going down with injuries.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: All right, so Green Bay, they get the victory OT 20-17.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: They had lost, what, six in a row or seven in a row called the playoffs?
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it would have been a really tough defeat.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_01: So they won the damn thing, you know.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: And so let's look at what they got.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: They were 0-6 without Micah Parsons.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they won without Parsons for the first time.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: Jets have a lot of first-round picks on that roster.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_01: I reviewed their team on Sunday morning.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: I was really checking it out before this game.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_01: I thought, wow, they're not bad at all.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: They got some people.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: And they proved they got some people, but they couldn't finish.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_01: All right, let's look at the receivers.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: All right, so they lose Reid right off the bat with this neck injury.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: They hit by DeMario Davis.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know what his situation is, but it's not real encouraging, I don't think.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: So, you know,
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_01: they don't have Dobbs and they don't have Wicks when they had an embarrassment
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_01: of people last year.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_01: So if they lose Reed for a long time, they got Watson,
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_01: Golden, Sky Moore, Sturdivant, Melton.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: They got Kraft is a hell of a tight end.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe they get Musgrave back.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_01: Jonu Smith is certainly a receiving tight end.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: All right, let's look at what they did.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_01: Watson, he blocked poorly in this game.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a big guy.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: He's 6'4".
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: He was 208 coming out.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_01: He had a hole on a run block against Thomas.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: He missed a block on a bubble, minus two against Thomas.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, Azariah Thomas, yeah.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: He had a bad run.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_01: He missed the safety, Cisco.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_01: That was the forced fumble, awful.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: As the receiver, he caught, what, four for 41.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: 20-yard digging traffic, Belton was all over him, was a fine catch.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: 13 in route against Stevens, kind of an exposed corner over there.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_01: Three-yard touchdown on a slant against the Nickelback Brownlee,
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_01: dropped the ball at the 12, hurt his arm, came back.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's got to be better than that.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: Golden.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_01: One of the best games we've seen him play.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, he dropped the dig early.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: He beat Stevens on a deep post, got the P.I.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_01: for 23, stop and go, nice route.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: Caught a slant for 17, I think my notes say against Stevens.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: And up against Nazariah Thomas, P.I., 38 yards.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_01: Found a hole in his own, nice route, gain of 18.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: Sturdivant, nine snaps, the rookie three agent, illegal formation, lined up off the ball.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: That's all he had.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_01: Sky Moore, tried him on a bomb, no separation.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: Sky, five, nine and a half, 191, ran 4-4-4.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_01: He's got huge hands for his size, 10 and a quarter.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's their receivers.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_01: Now the tight ends, Kraft.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_01: Pretty bad game.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_01: He had a fumble on the screen that his teammate recovered.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: He had a holding penalty point of attack on a toss against Braden McGregor.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_01: I think it's Braden.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: And he had half a bad run.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: He was late against Sherwood, the inside backer.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: He's got to play better than that.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_01: Redmond, John O. Smith was a non-factor, only played 13 snaps.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: And Redmond, they're blocking tight end, 20 snaps.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_01: One time, Enigbari forced that fumble.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_01: Redmond did not sustain on that block.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: Could have been a critical error.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_01: All right, that's it.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Melton had a bad run.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, the receivers were not very good.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_01: All right, the offensive line.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: Let's start from left to right.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: So Morgan, he was better this week.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: And he was up against
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: Will McDonald,
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_01: the fourth-year guy, first-round pick from Iowa State, was it?
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: And now he's really become a pass rusher.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_01: And I thought, man, is Morgan going to be able to handle this guy?
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_01: Well, he did.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: He did really well.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_01: Illegal formation penalty lined up too deep.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_01: He took two on a gain of eight, a running play, really nice work.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_01: He had a false start.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: He had half a bad run when he missed Jawan Briggs,
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: and he gave up a sack to Anikbari in 3.6, but an encouraging game for Morgan.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_01: All right, they start Banks, the veteran at left guard.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_01: He comes back, last 22 snaps, leaves with a toe knee injury.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_01: He's, I assume, questionable this week.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_01: Then they come in with...
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_01: Jennings,
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_01: who plays 14 snaps,
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: first snap of the game, he's laid out of his stance, allows deep penetration.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: He made the fumble recovery on the sack, loves fumble, and he had half a bad run against Sweat.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_01: Anyway, then they tired of him,
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_01: and they played the rookie, Jaeger Burton, the kid from Was it Duke, I think?
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_01: ACC.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_01: He plays left guard for the final 11 minutes, played 23 snaps.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_01: when there was a penalty over on the sideline,
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_01: he was the first one over there to start shoving Sherwood.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_01: That's after the roughing of Love, the perceived roughing.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_01: I think, yeah, I kind of like that.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, a rookie in his first game, he's over there hustling, getting in the thick of things.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_01: The center, Ryan, I thought he played really good.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: I didn't have him for any negatives.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_01: The right guard, Monk, two bad runs and a hold.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_01: He played okay, not great.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: And then we come to the right tackle.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Zach, Tom, excuse me, Zach, Baco, Boweli, out for the year, torn patellar tendon.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_01: And he had a similar injury, a partial tear of that last December.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_01: Correct, correct.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_01: He's the best line.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_01: There's no question about that.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_01: I really like him.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_01: Anybody who's listened to this, I mean, all he does is shout out to this guy.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_01: He's not a big killer in the run game, but he is steady as heck.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_01: He does not really miss much.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_01: He's not penalty laden.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_01: That's really a serious blow.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: It's like losing Mark Tosher
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_01: Ken Rutgers or Chad Clifton.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is a really good tackle for Green Bay.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_01: So they come with Belton who played guard last year, the second year guy, Belton, right?
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_01: So we're going to be seeing a lot of Belton who lost his job at guard.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_01: Second round pick in 25.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_01: So they must believe in this guy.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_01: He's 6'6".
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_01: He's massive.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: 3-36, 5-2-8, never took the test, 33-7-8 arm, 10-1-4 hand.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: How did he play?
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_01: He was up against, I mean,
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_01: Bailey was,
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: what, the fourth pick in that draft, David Bailey, or the third pick this year.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_01: He did okay.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_01: Second player picked.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_01: He was on Belton almost the whole game.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_01: I thought Belton blocked him really good.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: He had a FOMO recovery on Kraft's bobble.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_01: Later, he had a hole against Bailey on a spin move and a hole against Bailey
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_01: on another spin, which wiped out a touchdown.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_01: I can't even remember the play.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_01: But, all right, two holes, not bad in 56 snaps.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_01: Played pretty good, and that's encouraging.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_01: So that's what they got.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_01: They got injuries in that front.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_01: So you got going forward, you got Morgan.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_01: Left guard, Jennings is on the injury list, so maybe you start Burton.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_01: Thursday, you got Ryan at center, Monk at right guard, and Belton at tackle.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_01: The backup tackle, the third tackle becomes John Williams.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_01: Seventh-round pick in 2025.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: He just hit 6'4", 322.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_01: He looks like a guard.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_01: Whew, that's a problem.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go over to the running backs.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_01: So Jacobs is out, they got Brooks 27, Lloyd 16, Caleb Johnson 16 from Iowa and the Steelers.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_01: All right, Brooks dropped the ball on the sideline.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_01: Made two guys miss on a ball in overtime on the flat gain of 16, really a nice play.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_01: He failed to get Cisco on a blitz.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_01: That was a knockdown.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_01: Lloyd, touchdown on a dump-off pass.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_01: Lost that fumble on the goal line.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_01: Hit by Anagvari.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_01: Terrible.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_01: And Caleb Johnson, he showed a burst on that 13-yarder.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_01: Broke some grab tackles.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: He fumbled.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_01: That's their backs.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_01: Not very good.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_01: All right, now, Jordan.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_00: No, we have to talk about them at some point, but keep going.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_01: So I'll finish Lovequick and then you go.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_01: Cryological order, as always.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_01: Third and sixth, he throws it out to Watson, threw it short.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_01: Ball was broken up by Nazariah Thomas.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: Azariah, excuse me.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_01: Fumble recovery from Johnson.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, he recovered Caleb Johnson's fumble.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_01: Third and 13, he threw low to Melton.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_01: Fubble, careless, swinging the ball in traffic, took a sack, 6.8 seconds he held that thing.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_01: The sack's on him.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_01: Heard his hand late third, didn't miss anything.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: Third and three, threw Loda Watson on a hook.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_01: He's the master of these PI bombs, Tyler.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_01: He floats them up there.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_01: He lets people on that red line.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_01: He doesn't throw it too far.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_01: And he gets these PIs, man.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_01: He's uncanny with it.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_01: I wonder if there's a stat, how many QBs, how many PI yardage you get in the season?
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: He had to lead the league.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_01: And then he got hit in the helmet by Sherwood in the end zone.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, on that scramble.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's it.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_01: Not a very good game by Love at all.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_01: How about the O, Tyler?
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, you've got to get something
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_00: out of your rushing attack, right?
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_00: I get it there.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_00: They probably should throw more than they throw because I'm thinking back to last season.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_00: When you look at various advanced metrics,
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_00: they ran more than they should have been running even last year.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_00: They're explosive.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_00: They have all sorts of receivers, all sorts of weapons.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_00: Go.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_00: But then you get into a game like this and you're playing pat-a-cake with
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_00: the New York Jets and the rain and the slop.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_00: You're going to have conditions.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_00: You've got to have somebody you can rely on.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, Marshawn Lloyd, Caleb Johnson, Chris Brooks.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_00: It was just kind of getting the same production out of all these guys.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_00: It wasn't much.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_00: Do you think that they saw something in Marshawn Lloyd, right?
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_00: To draft him, to believe in him, to stick with him.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_00: Do you remember much from the scouts out of the draft?
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_00: Like, what is it?
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_00: What does he do well?
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_00: Because it seems like his timing is off.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_00: I guess I bring it up because I talked to Ray Davis here in Western New York
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_00: at one point in the spring.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_00: And this is a guy that let his frustration be known.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_00: He wants to be an RB1 for somebody and show what he can do.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_00: He had...
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_00: Several 1,000-yard seasons for several teams back in college, right?
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_00: It was Vanderbilt, Temple, Kentucky.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_00: Incredible story, growing up homeless, all that stuff.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_00: But when he does get an opportunity, and it isn't often.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking of the Jets game last year.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_00: The Jets, right?
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_00: The Jets.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_00: He was fantastic.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's worth parting with draft capital of value.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_00: I would, if you're Green Bay, for somebody like that.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_00: You know what you have in this batch of backs on your roster.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_00: Do something.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_00: Ray Davis, I don't know anything.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_00: I haven't talked to Brandon Bean or Brian Gutekind to know, oh, this guy's for sale at all.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_00: Just based off my conversations with him, he is somebody dying for an opportunity.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: And...
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe the Bills would never part with him.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_00: But whether it's him or another back, isn't it?
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: Because you've seen this happen in Green Bay in the past where they've lost
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_00: a running back early in a season.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm thinking back to 1998 is
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_00: when they lost Dorsey Levens off his big time season,
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_00: 1,400 some yards when they lost to Denver in the Super Bowl.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_00: They lost him early.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_00: And I felt like they were hyperventilating at the running back position all year.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_00: It was like Raymond Harris from Chicago and Travis Jervie was the starter for a bit.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_00: And Derek Holmes, the ex Bill was the start.
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_00: And they were just trying to get by with anything they could get.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_00: And then eventually Dorsey Levins came back at the end of the season.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_00: Green Bay is feeling really good about themselves.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_00: Oh man, we got a healthy Dorsey Levins far of this offense.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_00: Favre was a three-time MVP,
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_01: but they're a wild card.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_00: They lost to San Francisco, obviously.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_00: T.O.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_00: 's catching all that.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_00: It's a pass-first league,
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_00: all of that, but you got to have somebody who's good running the football.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_01: So Tyler Marshawn Lloyd, now he's been there two plus years.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_01: This is his third year, right?
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_01: He's a third-round pick.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_01: Five, eight and a half, running back, who cares about height.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_01: 221, the guy's really ripped.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_01: He ran 445.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_01: Man, that's a combination.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_01: 25 on the bench press.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_01: What's the problem?
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_01: Well, why isn't he playing?
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_01: He had nine on the test.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_01: You got to pass protect, Tyler.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_01: You got to see a lot of stuff.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know how many snaps he had against Minnesota and Flores.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_01: Not very many.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_01: But nine's a really low score.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_01: And maybe he just can't pick it up.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_01: I've never talked to him.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_01: But that's a low score.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_01: That's what Green Bay will take.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_01: They took a chance on a guy with a low score and great numbers.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_01: That's the Gutekunst pattern.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_00: That was the theme of our last pod, right?
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_00: I'm arguing for that type of player on the roster.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_00: Let's see, Atlanta.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're barely an NFL team at this point of the season.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_00: So one of these guys has to go off,
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_00: and you'd like it to be Marshawn Lloyd, who you have stood by all this time.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: I do wonder.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're going to get into the rest of the team here.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm jumping the gun a little bit.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_00: If you want to wait on a bigger picture point, that's fine.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_00: But watching these first two Packer games and,
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_00: like, I'm thinking of the offseason and all the players that they lost.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_00: Rasheed Walker,
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_00: Elton Jenkins,
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_00: Kingsley Anibari,
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_00: Romeo Dobbs, Quay Walker, even in Emmanuel Wilson and Malik Willis.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, they lost a lot of guys in free agency.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, did I miss anybody there?
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_00: There's a bunch.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_00: Nate Hobbs, I guess, too.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_00: And Dontavian Wicks.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_00: They traded Wicks.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_00: If you were to look at Any individual play,
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_00: you'd say, oh, they can replace him or they can replace him.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_00: But then when you throw them all together,
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_00: you're in a pillow fight
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_00: with the New York Jets,
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_00: who I guess you say is better than maybe we think they are, but I don't know.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_00: I think they're the same old Jets.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_00: I can't get them out of my head.
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_00: On the heels of the collapse against the Vikings.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_00: The jury's out on how good the Packers really are when you then factor in
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_00: the floor's tendencies to play.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_00: Just give games away.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_01: Tyler, do you see him closer to 11-6 or 7-10?
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_00: 11-6.
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm positing the question to you because gun to the head,
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_00: I still think quarterback,
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_00: edge rusher, nasty dudes, weapons, roster-wise they have enough.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_00: Like there's enough there for a coaching staff to work with.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_00: There's definitely two ways to look at it, though.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, like I said,
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_00: you could look at all these role players and say,
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_00: who's replacing these role players?
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_00: And then what happens when those guys inevitably get hurt,
- 1:27:19SPEAKER_00: which is already kind of happening now with your best lineman?
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_00: They're going to be banking on mid to late round picks and street free agents
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_00: to step in when attrition happens.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_00: I still think if you're a GM,
- 1:27:38SPEAKER_00: if you're a coach,
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_00: if you're any team,
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_00: you'd still rather be in possession of talented quarterback who had a rough day,
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_00: as you know, and a Micah Parsons and the temperament that they have.
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_00: What a refreshing sign to see players come to the defense of their quarterback
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_00: when their quarterback gets hit, too.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_00: That was much needed.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_00: As we say on Real Football with Jim Owen, it's something to keep an eye on, this roster.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_01: All right, their defense.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, up front, Wyatt 43, Brooks 50 snaps, McClellan 34, Ford 31.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_01: You know, the Jets averaged 2.5 yards per carry.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_01: This front was pretty stout against the Vikings,
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_01: and it was pretty stout, real stout in this game here.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_01: I was kind of impressed.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, these guys are kind of like nobodies other than, I mean, Hargrave's out.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's why they didn't have Hargrave in there where you can,
- 1:28:46SPEAKER_01: you got somewhere a scab you just run right at, man.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_01: Ford?
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_01: Well, the lineman who had problems was the left guard Parham, who's been around a little bit.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_01: I got nothing to say.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_01: Ford will stuff people.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_01: Wyatt's got some get off.
- 1:29:10SPEAKER_01: I don't think he has quite the athleticism he had before that blown knee.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_01: And we know Carl Brooks.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_01: Every now and then he can rev it up, man.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_01: He had a flush against Myers.
- 1:29:22SPEAKER_01: He whiffed on the sack, but that was in the fourth quarter.
- 1:29:25SPEAKER_01: The ex-Packers center, but he's a threat.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_01: Every now and then, not often, but Carl will come through with something.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go outside.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_01: You got Van S, 54.
- 1:29:36SPEAKER_01: Sorrell, 31.
- 1:29:38SPEAKER_01: They were the starters.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_01: Then you got Brenton Cox, 30.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_01: And Danny Dennis Sutton, the rookie from Penn State, he had 30.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_01: So you got four-guy rotation.
- 1:29:49SPEAKER_01: Vaness, I thought he was really average in the opener, but he was really good.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_01: Now, Tyler, you got the right tackle, Membo Armand, a second-year guy.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_01: He was the seventh pick in the 25 draft.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_01: You got Fashanu, the left tackle.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_01: He was the 11th pick in 24.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_01: You got bookend young tackles with fantastic ability,
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_01: both of them, and yet Vaness did some things against both.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_01: He had one, two, three pressures against Membo, one against Fashano.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_01: He had another one on a late chase.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_01: He did some things against the run.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_01: Fourth and one, he beat the tight end Rookert inside, no gain.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_01: He had a hell of a game.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_01: Vaness, I mean, you look at the numbers.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_01: Two years ago, I had him down.
- 1:30:50SPEAKER_01: We had the five breakthrough players on the eve of the season.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_01: I put him in there entering his second year while I had egg all over my face.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_01: He didn't break out anywhere.
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_01: But he's 6'5", 275, 462, 34 on the arm, 11 massive hands.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_01: The guy's, you know, he's a stud athlete.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_01: And he looked great for the first time in his career.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_01: So can it continue?
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_01: I don't see why not.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_01: He's in fourth year, man.
- 1:31:21SPEAKER_01: This is when he's got to do it.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, fourth year.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_01: All right, Sorrell, he was okay at the point.
- 1:31:28SPEAKER_01: Didn't show much as a rusher.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_01: Cox, he really offered nothing as making plays.
- 1:31:38SPEAKER_01: Sutton, he had a couple of pressures.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_01: Sutton's really a terrific athlete.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_01: If he's just stays with the program.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, the guy's six, five and a half, 259, ran 460 with a 39 and a half vert and a 1011 broad.
- 1:31:53SPEAKER_01: This is a rare, rare athlete, Danny Dennis Sutton.
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the backers.
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, that Campbell, the rookie free agent played nine snaps.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_00: I think he's a rookie second year guy.
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_01: All right, the backers.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_01: Um, Cooper played every snap, all 74.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_01: That's tough.
- 1:32:14SPEAKER_01: 74 is a lot of snaps going into a Thursday game.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_01: He's got a lot of range.
- 1:32:23SPEAKER_01: He is out of position at times, just like Quay Walker was in zone drops.
- 1:32:30SPEAKER_01: He can get a sack on you real quick.
- 1:32:33SPEAKER_01: He went way over the top early in the game.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_01: Rather than just running through him,
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_01: Down the line and then made a left turn,
- 1:32:41SPEAKER_01: 90 degree, 45 degree angle, made a play for no gain, I think it was.
- 1:32:49SPEAKER_01: Franklin,
- 1:32:50SPEAKER_01: the veteran,
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 1:32:55SPEAKER_01: he's got a little bit of that Wilson in him,
- 1:32:58SPEAKER_01: which he will curb momentum of the scrum pushing.
- 1:33:04SPEAKER_01: He's a step slow to the sideline, 14-yard run over to the Jets left.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_01: He was a step late.
- 1:33:12SPEAKER_01: That's going to happen.
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's no spring chicken.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_01: He ran 4.62 coming out.
- 1:33:18SPEAKER_01: He's probably 4.75 now.
- 1:33:22SPEAKER_01: On that long screen, he gave himself up on the screen one for one into a guard.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_01: That probably wasn't a real wise decision.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_01: He ruined another screen with a quick charge.
- 1:33:35SPEAKER_01: It was a hell of a play, no game.
- 1:33:37SPEAKER_01: He's been a solid addition.
- 1:33:39SPEAKER_01: Now let's go to the secondary.
- 1:33:41SPEAKER_01: Um, the rookie, Brandon Cece.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_01: Cece or Cece?
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:33:52SPEAKER_00: Say however you'd like, Bob.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_01: Cece.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_01: Nice game.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, nice form tackle and run support.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_01: He's tough.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_01: He is tough.
- 1:34:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, I kind of like him.
- 1:34:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not Keyshawn Nixon tough, but this guy will hit.
- 1:34:10SPEAKER_01: He's showed me enough in two games to say that.
- 1:34:13SPEAKER_01: Third 11 looked like he voided the area and Mitchell caught a ball
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_00: all alone, gained a 14.
- 1:34:21SPEAKER_01: Gave up a touchdown on a man blitz situation.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_01: He had half a sack.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_01: He shows some ability to rush the passer.
- 1:34:29SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:34:30SPEAKER_01: Nixon, he got picked on.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_00: Cissé.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_00: Cissé.
- 1:34:34SPEAKER_01: Cissé.
- 1:34:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_01: Correct me next time.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_01: Cissé.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:34:38SPEAKER_00: I don't like to correct you.
- 1:34:40SPEAKER_00: I like it when you say them however you want.
- 1:34:43SPEAKER_01: Nixon, he got picked on, Tyler.
- 1:34:45SPEAKER_01: When they needed a completion, they stayed away from the rookie and they went to him.
- 1:34:50SPEAKER_01: Third and 11, he let Wilson cross his face, gain a 15.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_01: Pass interference, bump and run, the up to Adonai Mitchell.
- 1:35:00SPEAKER_01: 34-yard penalty all over the guy.
- 1:35:02SPEAKER_01: Third and nine, threw it out to Mitchell for 14.
- 1:35:06SPEAKER_01: Allen, the five-yard touchdown.
- 1:35:09SPEAKER_01: He gave up the outside.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was his fourth terrible play in one series.
- 1:35:15SPEAKER_01: Wilson beat him on a comeback for 17.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_01: Wilson 11, PI on Nixon.
- 1:35:22SPEAKER_01: They turned down the penalty.
- 1:35:26SPEAKER_01: He didn't have a very good game.
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_01: He played a lot better in the first game.
- 1:35:30SPEAKER_01: Bullard, now you did the story on the guy, so you know this guy, Tyler.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about his day.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_01: Right away, the third down bomb falls incomplete to Mitchell.
- 1:35:41SPEAKER_01: He taunts the guy, unsportsmanlike penalty, first down Jets.
- 1:35:46SPEAKER_01: He got a hurry on a blitz.
- 1:35:48SPEAKER_01: He dropped an interception when he was in a lurk situation.
- 1:35:53SPEAKER_01: He had a fine close and hit in the flat.
- 1:35:56SPEAKER_01: He was stout against the run.
- 1:35:58SPEAKER_01: He got caught inside on a gain of 14.
- 1:36:01SPEAKER_01: He...
- 1:36:07SPEAKER_01: He got caught inside again on another gain of 14.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_01: He shed Memble for a tackle for loss.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_01: So all in all, he's a physical guy.
- 1:36:18SPEAKER_01: You talked about and you interviewed him about the violence in his play.
- 1:36:22SPEAKER_01: Let me just finish these guys and you can go back to him.
- 1:36:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, Tyler?
- 1:36:26SPEAKER_01: The safeties, Eric Williams, when they want to stop the run, they bring him down.
- 1:36:32SPEAKER_01: And he's a pretty good disguised guy.
- 1:36:35SPEAKER_01: He will come in hard and real late and do damage, man.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_01: Good player.
- 1:36:41SPEAKER_01: Now, I'm not saying he can cover, really.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_01: He certainly can't man cover, but he is a force against that run.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_01: He had a knockdown against Hall, a running back on a blitz.
- 1:36:53SPEAKER_01: He took a bad angle on Hall's screen.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_01: That thing ruptured for 43 yards.
- 1:36:58SPEAKER_01: He had a fine breakup at the 14 going in.
- 1:37:01SPEAKER_01: Great play.
- 1:37:02SPEAKER_01: Ball was thrown to Mitchell.
- 1:37:04SPEAKER_01: McKinney, on the end of the round, he comes flying in there, just made a token bump.
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_01: He didn't even try to wrap up.
- 1:37:13SPEAKER_01: Misses the tackle.
- 1:37:14SPEAKER_01: Extra nine on the play.
- 1:37:16SPEAKER_01: That was against Hall.
- 1:37:18SPEAKER_01: And then on the screen to Hall for 43.
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_01: Poor breakdown.
- 1:37:23SPEAKER_01: That was third and 12.
- 1:37:24SPEAKER_01: Hall gets an extra 35 because of that missed tackle.
- 1:37:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:37:30SPEAKER_01: Special teams.
- 1:37:32SPEAKER_01: Smack gets the game winner from 26.
- 1:37:35SPEAKER_01: He tied it with one from 34 with three minutes left.
- 1:37:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:37:39SPEAKER_01: They didn't try from 63 at the end of regulation.
- 1:37:43SPEAKER_01: I thought that was a little strange, but he's not supposed to have a great, great range.
- 1:37:48SPEAKER_01: His kickoffs are excellent.
- 1:37:49SPEAKER_01: He's the best in the division on directional.
- 1:37:52SPEAKER_01: Four of the five were on the numbers or outside him.
- 1:37:55SPEAKER_01: Whalen did not – the stats are okay, 54-0, 50.3, but he got lucky a few times with roll.
- 1:38:04SPEAKER_01: His hang was only 4-1-3.
- 1:38:06SPEAKER_01: All right,
- 1:38:08SPEAKER_01: Sky Moore,
- 1:38:10SPEAKER_01: 63-yard punt return,
- 1:38:12SPEAKER_01: really stoked that comeback, made two guys miss, set up the tying field goal.
- 1:38:17SPEAKER_01: It was a great run.
- 1:38:19SPEAKER_01: Returned four kickoffs for 29-0.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_01: Penalties, Haddon, the corner, hold on a punt return.
- 1:38:26SPEAKER_01: Dennis Sutton, unnecessary roughness on a punt return.
- 1:38:30SPEAKER_01: McClellan, stupid, unnecessary roughness on a punt return.
- 1:38:35SPEAKER_01: Shoved a guy, I mean, Haddon had a hit.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_01: I guess that's it, Tyler, for all of that.
- 1:38:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:38:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:38:49SPEAKER_00: Great breakdown as always.
- 1:38:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, Javon Bullard is the temperament that this Packers team needs.
- 1:38:55SPEAKER_00: And you're just going to have to deal with the consequences.
- 1:38:57SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what he said when we sat down in Milledgeville.
- 1:39:00SPEAKER_00: He plays at one speed.
- 1:39:03SPEAKER_00: Get the hell out of his way.
- 1:39:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, for those who didn't read it, the headline is Javon
- 1:39:09SPEAKER_01: Bullard is the dagger.
- 1:39:11SPEAKER_00: He really gets into his hatred of the Chicago Bears.
- 1:39:16SPEAKER_00: And how they need a killer instinct and just take MFers hope away
- 1:39:20SPEAKER_00: and they let them off the hook, all that.
- 1:39:23SPEAKER_00: Within the story, quote, I don't want to live a life of regret.
- 1:39:26SPEAKER_00: Like, damn, I should have done that.
- 1:39:28SPEAKER_00: Hell no, go 110% in whatever the hell you're doing.
- 1:39:31SPEAKER_00: I'll be the bad guy.
- 1:39:32SPEAKER_00: F it.
- 1:39:32SPEAKER_00: Make me the villain.
- 1:39:34SPEAKER_00: He takes it back to the roots of Milledgeville,
- 1:39:36SPEAKER_00: but also football fans probably remember his hit on Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:39:42SPEAKER_00: in the CFP playoff.
- 1:39:44SPEAKER_00: Knocks him out of the game.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_00: Ohio State is going in to take a commanding lead.
- 1:39:49SPEAKER_00: That hit, that moment changes everything for Georgia.
- 1:39:53SPEAKER_00: They win that game, then they blow out TCU the next week.
- 1:39:57SPEAKER_00: Harrison's never really been the same, by the way.
- 1:39:59SPEAKER_00: He stinks.
- 1:40:00SPEAKER_00: He's just not a good player.
- 1:40:03SPEAKER_00: As readers of the Vikings series could surmise on how scouts saw him out of college.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_00: But anyways,
- 1:40:12SPEAKER_00: Bullard takes you inside his mind on what It was going through his brain in the heat
- 1:40:17SPEAKER_00: of that moment and why you have to go through the whistle.
- 1:40:20SPEAKER_00: Quote, like if you think too much in that moment, Georgia doesn't win that game.
- 1:40:27SPEAKER_00: He said, quote, now you're timid.
- 1:40:29SPEAKER_00: Now you're just thinking, oh, I don't want to get fined.
- 1:40:31SPEAKER_00: I don't want to get flagged.
- 1:40:32SPEAKER_00: No, bro, do that shit.
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_00: Deal with the consequences.
- 1:40:35SPEAKER_00: Go on to the next play.
- 1:40:36SPEAKER_00: And we were talking about the 2014 NFC Championship game when Green Bay just found
- 1:40:43SPEAKER_00: a way to, you know,
- 1:40:47SPEAKER_00: Gnaw their teeth into the jaws of defeat from victory, whatever the expression is there.
- 1:40:54SPEAKER_00: That game still blows my mind, Bob.
- 1:40:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know how they lost that.
- 1:40:58SPEAKER_00: 18 plays had to go the other direction for them to blow that lead.
- 1:41:02SPEAKER_00: But the one
- 1:41:02SPEAKER_00: that probably people remember is Morgan Burnett picking off Russell Wilson for
- 1:41:06SPEAKER_00: the fourth time and then sliding, right?
- 1:41:09SPEAKER_00: Julius Peppers puts the arms down, slide.
- 1:41:12SPEAKER_00: Four and a half minutes to go.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_00: That opens the floodgates.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_00: I brought that up to Javon Bullard, and he just looked absolutely disgusted.
- 1:41:21SPEAKER_00: Quote, what are you sliding for?
- 1:41:24SPEAKER_00: On defense, I'll tell you this, I'm never sliding.
- 1:41:27SPEAKER_00: Unless we already got the game and the clock hits zero.
- 1:41:30SPEAKER_00: Other than that, I'm never sliding, ever.
- 1:41:33SPEAKER_00: You can't be passive, man.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_00: There's a lot in here.
- 1:41:37SPEAKER_00: He doesn't hold back.
- 1:41:39SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 1:41:41SPEAKER_00: Quote, damn, I hate Chicago.
- 1:41:42SPEAKER_00: It's real hate.
- 1:41:43SPEAKER_00: I can't stay in Chicago.
- 1:41:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the hell it is.
- 1:41:46SPEAKER_00: I don't like the team.
- 1:41:47SPEAKER_00: I don't like their coach.
- 1:41:49SPEAKER_00: I don't like shit about Chicago, except their food.
- 1:41:51SPEAKER_00: I do love their food.
- 1:41:52SPEAKER_00: But other than that, man, damn Chicago.
- 1:41:56SPEAKER_00: Ben Johnson, you know, when he said F the Packers, F them.
- 1:42:00SPEAKER_00: And it's just been, you know, giving it to Matt LaFleur at every opportunity.
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_00: Back to his introductory press conference, by the way.
- 1:42:07SPEAKER_00: Bullard quote, don't let him try that shit on you like that.
- 1:42:10SPEAKER_00: Or don't let him try to shit on you like that.
- 1:42:13SPEAKER_00: I don't like that.
- 1:42:15SPEAKER_00: We're going to see them boys multiple times.
- 1:42:17SPEAKER_01: They're going to have to come with it.
- 1:42:19SPEAKER_00: So isn't this the rhetoric?
- 1:42:21SPEAKER_00: Isn't this the attitude that the Packers have just been missing for a long time?
- 1:42:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:42:26SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 1:42:27SPEAKER_00: You're going to get taunting penalties.
- 1:42:30SPEAKER_00: You're going to get mistakes,
- 1:42:32SPEAKER_00: but you're just going to have to take that collateral damage
- 1:42:34SPEAKER_00: because I tell you what, they love them.
- 1:42:37SPEAKER_00: From the top down,
- 1:42:38SPEAKER_00: they love Javon Bullard,
- 1:42:39SPEAKER_00: and I think the good will outweigh the bad when it's all said and done.
- 1:42:45SPEAKER_01: All right, that's enough Packer talk, right, T?
- 1:42:48SPEAKER_01: Now we got one more club.
- 1:42:51SPEAKER_01: This game's a long time ago.
- 1:42:52SPEAKER_01: You covered this Buffalo game.
- 1:42:55SPEAKER_01: I just want to say this, Tyler.
- 1:42:57SPEAKER_01: On Monday, I get the transcripts on Dan Campbell.
- 1:43:01SPEAKER_01: I've never read quite – He keeps talking when you have to trust each other.
- 1:43:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not really sure where he's at,
- 1:43:10SPEAKER_01: but I've never seen him kind of talking like this,
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_01: talking about the wounds on defense.
- 1:43:18SPEAKER_01: It's a wound, but you clean a wound, you stitch it up, you bandage it, and it'll heal just fine.
- 1:43:25SPEAKER_01: We'll be all right, so trust that.
- 1:43:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, right now, I'm open to everything.
- 1:43:31SPEAKER_01: He's talking about getting these young players in the lineup.
- 1:43:35SPEAKER_01: Then he says, I'm just picking words out here, you know, out of context.
- 1:43:40SPEAKER_01: I'm not discouraged.
- 1:43:44SPEAKER_01: Kelvin Shepard, the DC, because he knows what he's doing, man.
- 1:43:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:43:50SPEAKER_01: For one of the first times, I just detected some doubt in Dan, what they have.
- 1:43:57SPEAKER_01: And I really don't know what they have right now.
- 1:44:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:44:03SPEAKER_01: But they certainly look terrible.
- 1:44:05SPEAKER_01: Now, you saw the game before we get into the positional.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_01: How do you see the Lions, Tyler?
- 1:44:12SPEAKER_00: Well, it's – I mean, Buffalo is humming right now too.
- 1:44:17SPEAKER_00: And maybe it wouldn't have mattered who in the hell takes the field.
- 1:44:22SPEAKER_00: That stadium was juiced up.
- 1:44:25SPEAKER_00: The first regular season game, new Highmark Stadium.
- 1:44:28SPEAKER_00: I can't remember – Rich turned Ralph,
- 1:44:33SPEAKER_00: turned New Airfield,
- 1:44:34SPEAKER_00: turned Highbark across Abbott Road ever being that crazy, that loud.
- 1:44:40SPEAKER_00: And that was kind of an unknown because the secondary market,
- 1:44:43SPEAKER_00: the prices were out of control, right?
- 1:44:46SPEAKER_00: So you see it at Lambeau sometimes with those prices.
- 1:44:49SPEAKER_00: You're pricing out that blue collar,
- 1:44:52SPEAKER_00: 12 beers deep fan who's going to bring it from an atmosphere perspective.
- 1:45:01SPEAKER_00: The hype was out of control, and I feel like the atmosphere surpassed the hype.
- 1:45:08SPEAKER_00: The 2007 Patriots might have taken the field and lost that game.
- 1:45:12SPEAKER_00: Not to let the Lions off the hook, because that defense was terrible.
- 1:45:16SPEAKER_00: They weren't stopping anything.
- 1:45:17SPEAKER_00: But all the energy, that does matter.
- 1:45:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know how you quantify it.
- 1:45:23SPEAKER_00: Josh Allen's the best player in football.
- 1:45:26SPEAKER_00: Joe Brady,
- 1:45:27SPEAKER_00: as the head coach now,
- 1:45:30SPEAKER_00: Is taking off all governors, letting him play the way he wants to play.
- 1:45:37SPEAKER_00: I guess I'll give the Lions a little grace,
- 1:45:40SPEAKER_00: but yeah, defensively, I don't know where the answers are.
- 1:45:43SPEAKER_00: I don't think like Brian Branch and Kirby Joseph just magically make
- 1:45:47SPEAKER_00: that defense much better with how they played in Orchard Park.
- 1:45:54SPEAKER_01: We may never see Joseph again, Tyler.
- 1:45:57SPEAKER_01: He hasn't played since October 12th.
- 1:46:00SPEAKER_01: We may never see him again.
- 1:46:01SPEAKER_01: Some cryptic answers
- 1:46:03SPEAKER_00: from Dan on that, right?
- 1:46:05SPEAKER_01: He said he's behind Branch's return.
- 1:46:08SPEAKER_01: Branch is coming off, what, a torn Achilles in November, December.
- 1:46:14SPEAKER_01: So they just lose a starting safety of Ante Maddox for the year.
- 1:46:18SPEAKER_01: He had some, I don't know what he's got, some injury.
- 1:46:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not very good, but at least he was good enough to be starting on this outfit.
- 1:46:29SPEAKER_01: All right, well, let's look at them.
- 1:46:33SPEAKER_01: Receivers, there's not much to talk about.
- 1:46:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, St. Brown, Tesla, Williams, Laporta.
- 1:46:39SPEAKER_01: Laporta's playing good, although he had a poor game run blocking.
- 1:46:44SPEAKER_01: Jeez, one, two, three, three and a half bad runs.
- 1:46:49SPEAKER_01: He missed Carter, Russo, Solomon, Chubb.
- 1:46:57SPEAKER_01: He gives effort as a blocker, but good grief.
- 1:47:00SPEAKER_01: You've got to be more efficient than that.
- 1:47:03SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:47:05SPEAKER_01: There's nothing to talk about there.
- 1:47:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:47:08SPEAKER_01: Now the offensive line.
- 1:47:09SPEAKER_01: So they're down three starters.
- 1:47:11SPEAKER_01: They're down the left guard,
- 1:47:13SPEAKER_01: Mahogany, the center, the guy they got from Carolina, May it is, isn't it?
- 1:47:20SPEAKER_01: And then they're down the right tackle, the rookie, Blake Miller, Cade Mays.
- 1:47:25SPEAKER_01: So you're down three going into high mark on a crazy night.
- 1:47:29SPEAKER_01: It's pretty tough.
- 1:47:30SPEAKER_01: But they keep going three and out,
- 1:47:32SPEAKER_01: and they're down 21-0, and then it's just mission impossible for the offense.
- 1:47:36SPEAKER_01: Thank God Goff played his butt off, or they would have got shelled by 30 or 40.
- 1:47:43SPEAKER_01: On that old line, Sewell's got to jack it up, man.
- 1:47:51SPEAKER_01: Gives up a flush to Walker on a stunt.
- 1:47:53SPEAKER_01: Man, that Walker.
- 1:47:55SPEAKER_01: That kid from Kentucky, Deion Walker, he's a Detroit kid.
- 1:48:01SPEAKER_01: He might be more talented than the banks of the Vikings.
- 1:48:04SPEAKER_01: That guy's a stud, man.
- 1:48:06SPEAKER_01: Gave up a sack to Chubb, terrible, 3.3 seconds.
- 1:48:10SPEAKER_01: Gives up a hurry again to Walker.
- 1:48:12SPEAKER_01: This is a DT, he'll rush outside.
- 1:48:15SPEAKER_01: And he gave up half a sack to Chubb.
- 1:48:18SPEAKER_01: The left guard,
- 1:48:19SPEAKER_01: Bartsch,
- 1:48:19SPEAKER_01: who's in there for Mahogany, he gave up five pressures and one and a half bad run.
- 1:48:27SPEAKER_01: It looks like he's really not good enough, but they don't know if Mahogany's that good either.
- 1:48:33SPEAKER_01: Mahogany's got to be the guy.
- 1:48:36SPEAKER_01: The center, Scruggs, he was okay.
- 1:48:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, one false start, high snap on a fumble.
- 1:48:48SPEAKER_01: No, he wasn't okay.
- 1:48:50SPEAKER_01: Three pressures.
- 1:48:52SPEAKER_01: Rattledge,
- 1:48:53SPEAKER_01: now he's a finisher and a big body and he goes,
- 1:48:56SPEAKER_01: you know, he fans off on the pass pro.
- 1:49:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, he will ear hole people.
- 1:49:02SPEAKER_01: He hit that Michael Hecht of the Bills, sent him into left field.
- 1:49:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's nasty.
- 1:49:07SPEAKER_01: I like Rattledge.
- 1:49:08SPEAKER_01: You know him, Tyler.
- 1:49:11SPEAKER_01: He had three pressures against him, two bad runs.
- 1:49:15SPEAKER_01: And then the right tackle bore him.
- 1:49:18SPEAKER_01: He's in there for Miller.
- 1:49:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, I kind of like Borum at times in Chicago,
- 1:49:24SPEAKER_01: and then he went to Miami and supposedly had his best year.
- 1:49:27SPEAKER_01: But, I mean, he's up against good people, Rousseau, Chubb.
- 1:49:32SPEAKER_01: Then he had problems with Michael Heck, the ex-Ram.
- 1:49:34SPEAKER_01: Is it Michael, I think?
- 1:49:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:49:36SPEAKER_00: Michael Hoyt, yeah.
- 1:49:37SPEAKER_01: Hoyt, yeah.
- 1:49:40SPEAKER_01: Flush, holding penalty, hurry, false start, knockdown, false start, half a sack.
- 1:49:48SPEAKER_01: Through all this stuff, Jared Goff, Played really a hell of a game.
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's zipping that ball.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_01: He threw that in that skinny post to St.
- 1:49:57SPEAKER_01: Brown for that 32 yard touchdown at the end, last two minutes.
- 1:50:02SPEAKER_01: That was a great throw.
- 1:50:04SPEAKER_01: Um, people in his face, Borum's guy, Russo's in his face.
- 1:50:09SPEAKER_01: He hit St. Brown on a corner for 22, threw a deep out for 18.
- 1:50:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:50:14SPEAKER_01: Bernard dropped the pick right in his hands.
- 1:50:18SPEAKER_01: Um, He fumbled on the sack.
- 1:50:21SPEAKER_01: Without him, they're doomed.
- 1:50:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, now the running backs.
- 1:50:26SPEAKER_01: Gibbs, 22 touches, 113.
- 1:50:33SPEAKER_01: Good player.
- 1:50:33SPEAKER_01: We know him.
- 1:50:34SPEAKER_01: Bakke showed a little bit of flashes.
- 1:50:39SPEAKER_01: They got to get Pacheco back.
- 1:50:40SPEAKER_01: That's going to be three months.
- 1:50:43SPEAKER_01: Boy, Tyler.
- 1:50:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:50:47SPEAKER_01: Now they got an easy schedule, supposedly.
- 1:50:50SPEAKER_01: They go to Tampa this week.
- 1:50:51SPEAKER_01: Is that right?
- 1:50:53SPEAKER_01: I forgot.
- 1:50:54SPEAKER_01: You want me to keep going?
- 1:50:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, keep going.
- 1:50:57SPEAKER_01: I'll look up their schedule.
- 1:50:59SPEAKER_01: The defense, I mean, it was loud.
- 1:51:02SPEAKER_01: They're down two safeties, you know, and –
- 1:51:06SPEAKER_00: Jets this week.
- 1:51:07SPEAKER_00: Jets, Panthers, Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, Dolphins.
- 1:51:11SPEAKER_01: Jets at home, right?
- 1:51:12SPEAKER_01: Aaron Glenn comes back to Detroit.
- 1:51:14SPEAKER_01: They could lose that game in a heartbeat, Tyler.
- 1:51:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, no chance.
- 1:51:20SPEAKER_00: The Jets at Detroit?
- 1:51:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:24SPEAKER_00: No chance.
- 1:51:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:51:29SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:51:29SPEAKER_00: Do you want to put a wager down?
- 1:51:31SPEAKER_00: I don't do that.
- 1:51:33SPEAKER_01: Well, not money.
- 1:51:34SPEAKER_01: We need to think of something creative here.
- 1:51:36SPEAKER_01: Well, what's the – I mean, I'm taking a big gamble.
- 1:51:40SPEAKER_01: The spread must be Detroit by six, seven, five and a half.
- 1:51:46SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 1:51:49SPEAKER_00: You know how much I hate gambling, but it's – Yeah,
- 1:51:52SPEAKER_01: so do I.
- 1:51:53SPEAKER_01: How the hell are the – I'm not talking about it.
- 1:51:56SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:51:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's nine and a half.
- 1:51:59SPEAKER_01: For Detroit?
- 1:52:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, no.
- 1:52:02SPEAKER_00: It opened at that.
- 1:52:03SPEAKER_00: It's six and a half.
- 1:52:04SPEAKER_00: Right now?
- 1:52:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:52:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52:07SPEAKER_01: All right, Hutchinson, I mean, he didn't get much done on either side.
- 1:52:12SPEAKER_01: All right, he had
- 1:52:18SPEAKER_01: strip sack against Brown.
- 1:52:22SPEAKER_01: That's when the ball, that was a huge play in the game, wasn't it?
- 1:52:25SPEAKER_01: When it was 0-0, he got the strip and the Bills recovered the ball.
- 1:52:29SPEAKER_01: That was huge.
- 1:52:31SPEAKER_01: Allen scrambled outside him for 12.
- 1:52:33SPEAKER_01: He got knocked around in the running game at times.
- 1:52:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, he trashed the tight end Kincaid, had a knockdown against another tight end.
- 1:52:42SPEAKER_01: He had one flush against Dawkins on a bull rush, constant double teaming after the early sack.
- 1:52:49SPEAKER_01: But again, the run game, the Bills had 203 on the ground and He wasn't very good.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_01: McNeil, three hurries.
- 1:53:02SPEAKER_01: He's got to get home.
- 1:53:06SPEAKER_01: Williams, Tyleek Williams, he's been more active than he was as a rookie.
- 1:53:11SPEAKER_01: I like him.
- 1:53:12SPEAKER_01: Anwa Zuriki, geez, he just got mauled in a 20-yard game.
- 1:53:17SPEAKER_01: Next play went right at him for 35.
- 1:53:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_01: He's been a disappointment with all these injuries.
- 1:53:23SPEAKER_01: How can you play that?
- 1:53:25SPEAKER_01: Gil Howard, the undersized rookie guy, 24 snaps.
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_01: He only had one hurry.
- 1:53:31SPEAKER_01: You know, he's a sixth-round pick.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_01: Lacey didn't do anything.
- 1:53:37SPEAKER_01: Let's continue on the outside.
- 1:53:39SPEAKER_01: You got Moore, that second-round pick from Michigan.
- 1:53:43SPEAKER_01: Well, they're not playing him.
- 1:53:45SPEAKER_01: Right now, they just don't trust him to really make plays.
- 1:53:49SPEAKER_01: He had 17 snaps.
- 1:53:52SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:53:52SPEAKER_00: they're playing him
- 1:53:53SPEAKER_01: standing up On passing down,
- 1:53:57SPEAKER_01: sometimes they're playing him as a stand-up guy over guard.
- 1:53:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, he weighs about 265.
- 1:54:02SPEAKER_01: I saw his whole career in college.
- 1:54:06SPEAKER_01: He hasn't done it right now.
- 1:54:07SPEAKER_01: He got caught inside.
- 1:54:11SPEAKER_01: Anders, Allen, the quarterback, drifted around, went around him, gained a 14.
- 1:54:18SPEAKER_01: Nowoski, I guess we got all the edges.
- 1:54:23SPEAKER_01: Wanham was a non-factor.
- 1:54:26SPEAKER_01: How many snaps for Wanham?
- 1:54:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was 27, just nothing.
- 1:54:33SPEAKER_01: All right, the linebackers.
- 1:54:35SPEAKER_01: Barnes, 74.
- 1:54:36SPEAKER_01: Campbell, 74.
- 1:54:38SPEAKER_01: White, 33.
- 1:54:39SPEAKER_01: All right, Campbell did not play well.
- 1:54:43SPEAKER_01: Had a holding penalty, negated a sack.
- 1:54:47SPEAKER_01: He's a step late in the middle.
- 1:54:51SPEAKER_01: That touchdown to Palmer.
- 1:54:52SPEAKER_01: He got blocked a lot.
- 1:54:55SPEAKER_01: Bills were getting people on him,
- 1:54:56SPEAKER_01: and he was either not staying square to blocks or guessing wrong.
- 1:55:00SPEAKER_01: You can't guess.
- 1:55:01SPEAKER_01: Normally he doesn't.
- 1:55:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's their guy.
- 1:55:06SPEAKER_01: They paid him all that money.
- 1:55:07SPEAKER_01: He played good in the opener.
- 1:55:09SPEAKER_01: He did not play good here.
- 1:55:11SPEAKER_01: White, Devin White, you know, the ex-Tampa guy, he's kind of a punching bag.
- 1:55:18SPEAKER_01: He had a face mask penalty, got exposed in the flat.
- 1:55:23SPEAKER_01: Barnes, Solid.
- 1:55:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, he lets Frank Gore Jr.
- 1:55:30SPEAKER_01: come in there at 5'8", 201 lead, knocks him on his butt, kind of embarrassed him.
- 1:55:37SPEAKER_01: On the flat, he gets beat on a bootleg to the tight end, gain a 12, he bit.
- 1:55:42SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the safety.
- 1:55:44SPEAKER_01: So you got two safeties out.
- 1:55:45SPEAKER_01: Now you got three Maddox.
- 1:55:47SPEAKER_01: So you're down your top three safeties.
- 1:55:49SPEAKER_01: All right, what do they got?
- 1:55:51SPEAKER_01: They got Chuck Clark, the ex-Raven,
- 1:55:57SPEAKER_01: They signed the guy, minimum one year, 1.4, minimum wage.
- 1:56:08SPEAKER_01: He's a solid tackler.
- 1:56:10SPEAKER_01: He is a box guy, Tyler.
- 1:56:13SPEAKER_01: He's going to get exposed if he ever gets matched up in man coverage against some wideout.
- 1:56:18SPEAKER_01: Forget it.
- 1:56:19SPEAKER_01: Took a bad angle on Cook's 22-yard run late.
- 1:56:24SPEAKER_01: I thought...
- 1:56:26SPEAKER_01: All right, then they're playing Harper, who is a tough guy, free agent.
- 1:56:33SPEAKER_01: He plays like he's got a chip on his shoulder.
- 1:56:35SPEAKER_01: I like the little guy.
- 1:56:36SPEAKER_01: He's only 5'10", 189.
- 1:56:40SPEAKER_01: He didn't squeeze on a seam to the tight end, gain a 25, ridiculously easy.
- 1:56:45SPEAKER_01: 16 touchdown to the tight end, showed really bad reactions on the play.
- 1:56:51SPEAKER_01: Fine breakup on a short hook.
- 1:56:53SPEAKER_01: He's a hitter.
- 1:56:54SPEAKER_01: Now, Izzy and the guy from Rutgers only played 26 snaps here.
- 1:56:59SPEAKER_01: I think he's going to have to start with Clark.
- 1:57:03SPEAKER_01: Well, he's got to be one of the three safeties.
- 1:57:06SPEAKER_01: He's a tough guy, man.
- 1:57:07SPEAKER_01: He fills.
- 1:57:07SPEAKER_01: You could see it in college.
- 1:57:08SPEAKER_01: He really wants in on the action.
- 1:57:11SPEAKER_01: Now the corners.
- 1:57:12SPEAKER_01: So you got Yasin and Reed.
- 1:57:15SPEAKER_01: Izzy was the Knick.
- 1:57:16SPEAKER_01: So Izzy is going to safety.
- 1:57:18SPEAKER_01: And you got McCrary.
- 1:57:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, Tyler, on paper, this club's in trouble right now.
- 1:57:28SPEAKER_01: They got the easiest schedule of the bunch, but we're going through this.
- 1:57:31SPEAKER_01: I know it's at Buffalo.
- 1:57:33SPEAKER_01: I know it's a brutal scene, but we're just looking at people.
- 1:57:36SPEAKER_01: Yasin, I mean, you like the guy for what he is.
- 1:57:40SPEAKER_01: He plays every down.
- 1:57:42SPEAKER_01: He's tough as hell.
- 1:57:43SPEAKER_01: He's close a lot in coverage, but he can't quite get there.
- 1:57:47SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 1:57:50SPEAKER_01: He's like an eight, nine, eight, nine year veteran.
- 1:57:54SPEAKER_01: What'd he run coming out?
- 1:57:56SPEAKER_01: Yasin ran, well, here it is.
- 1:58:01SPEAKER_01: Four, five, two.
- 1:58:03SPEAKER_01: Now he's really bright.
- 1:58:04SPEAKER_01: 31 on the wonder look.
- 1:58:05SPEAKER_01: And he plays like that.
- 1:58:09SPEAKER_01: He had a holding penalty in and offsides calls.
- 1:58:11SPEAKER_01: Ridiculous.
- 1:58:15SPEAKER_01: He'll battle you.
- 1:58:16SPEAKER_01: You know, he ain't all bad.
- 1:58:19SPEAKER_01: DJ Reed in this secondary, he's a shining light.
- 1:58:22SPEAKER_01: DJ Reed, he had a holding penalty.
- 1:58:24SPEAKER_01: He feels tough.
- 1:58:25SPEAKER_01: He wouldn't be playing for this outfit if he didn't hit.
- 1:58:30SPEAKER_01: He got sucked inside on that 22-yard run by Cook.
- 1:58:33SPEAKER_01: Maddox had all kinds of problems in protection.
- 1:58:36SPEAKER_01: He's out for the year.
- 1:58:38SPEAKER_01: McCrary, he doesn't really have much speed.
- 1:58:45SPEAKER_01: Special teams, Bates hit from 31.
- 1:58:48SPEAKER_01: He had a touchback.
- 1:58:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, Fox, four punts, 51-5, 42-5, 4-6-2 on the hang.
- 1:58:57SPEAKER_01: He's off to a great start.
- 1:59:00SPEAKER_01: Kennedy's been okay as a return guy.
- 1:59:02SPEAKER_01: Sailors is okay as a return guy.
- 1:59:05SPEAKER_01: That's it for Detroit, Tyler.
- 1:59:07SPEAKER_01: What's your autopsies reveal?
- 1:59:10SPEAKER_00: That was a pretty good one.
- 1:59:12SPEAKER_00: I see why you're not so sure about the Detroit Lions beating the Jets.
- 1:59:18SPEAKER_00: I just think that firepower at home and then you cannot account for the intangible.
- 1:59:26SPEAKER_00: Dan Campbell during the week Coaching these guys, what he's saying, how they'll respond to it.
- 1:59:32SPEAKER_00: I go back to them beating Chicago late last season.
- 1:59:36SPEAKER_00: The Lions had nothing to play for.
- 1:59:38SPEAKER_00: I guess Chicago didn't really affect their seeding or anything,
- 1:59:42SPEAKER_00: but they're a team winning the division, going into the playoffs.
- 1:59:48SPEAKER_00: The Lions were reeling right off of that Christmas Day beat down to Flores' gang,
- 1:59:54SPEAKER_00: losing to Max Brosmer.
- 1:59:56SPEAKER_00: You know, we always pick on him.
- 1:59:58SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Max.
- 2:00:00SPEAKER_00: And then the Lions, Dan Campbell said something to get those guys up for that game.
- 2:00:05SPEAKER_00: They came out just punching the Bears in the mouth.
- 2:00:09SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's going to be that kind of game.
- 2:00:10SPEAKER_00: They're going to be hungry at home, and they find a way to just sock it to the Jets.
- 2:00:16SPEAKER_00: But they're going to have to win and adjust on the fly,
- 2:00:21SPEAKER_00: similar to how they've done the last,
- 2:00:22SPEAKER_00: what, three years with all the injuries on defense.
- 2:00:25SPEAKER_00: It's right back to where they've always been.
- 2:00:29SPEAKER_00: Just duct taping this hole and that hole and sticking the gum in the Hoover Dam like
- 2:00:34SPEAKER_00: in Vegas vacation.
- 2:00:35SPEAKER_00: Just doing what you can and hoping your offense can score 30 plus.
- 2:00:40SPEAKER_00: Aidan Hutchinson just has to change games, right?
- 2:00:42SPEAKER_00: You're paying him to be this game wrecking Micah Parsons like force.
- 2:00:48SPEAKER_00: And he was unbelievable before his injuries in the past.
- 2:00:51SPEAKER_00: So he's just going to have to make a lot of these other problems go away.
- 2:00:58SPEAKER_00: As the star of this unit, I would think.
- 2:01:01SPEAKER_01: You know, Derek Moore's got to come through.
- 2:01:04SPEAKER_01: I think Brad Holmes traded up for him.
- 2:01:07SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure of that, but I think so.
- 2:01:10SPEAKER_01: DJ Wanham, I mean, I liked him in Minnesota, but that's two, three years ago.
- 2:01:14SPEAKER_01: He went to Carolina.
- 2:01:16SPEAKER_01: He hasn't done it yet.
- 2:01:18SPEAKER_01: This Hassan, a sixth-round pick in 2025 who was inactive.
- 2:01:22SPEAKER_01: I think you're going to see him.
- 2:01:24SPEAKER_01: This guy's got a lot of energy.
- 2:01:26SPEAKER_01: They got to get some pass rush.
- 2:01:27SPEAKER_01: McNeil has to win – has to start edging a guard and getting a sack or not.
- 2:01:34SPEAKER_01: He's got to.
- 2:01:36SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, they're doomed.
- 2:01:37SPEAKER_01: And Howard,
- 2:01:38SPEAKER_01: we've seen enough good things from this rookie that,
- 2:01:40SPEAKER_01: you know, he can do some pressure stuff too.
- 2:01:44SPEAKER_01: All right, that's them.
- 2:01:47SPEAKER_00: Let's get to them again, memory.
- 2:01:49SPEAKER_00: Top us off.
- 2:01:50SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 2:01:52SPEAKER_01: So –
- 2:01:56SPEAKER_01: The Packers' appearance in the New York Jetland brought back a memory,
- 2:02:03SPEAKER_01: and so let's talk about it.
- 2:02:05SPEAKER_01: Let's go back 46 years, Tyler.
- 2:02:10SPEAKER_01: December 20, 1981.
- 2:02:15SPEAKER_01: You know where I'm going on this one?
- 2:02:18SPEAKER_01: I do not.
- 2:02:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:02:21SPEAKER_01: This was at Shea Stadium.
- 2:02:23SPEAKER_01: My only time at Shea.
- 2:02:25SPEAKER_01: Shea opened out in Long Island, Flushing Meadows in 1964.
- 2:02:31SPEAKER_01: And the Jets played there through 83.
- 2:02:35SPEAKER_01: So this is the third line.
- 2:02:37SPEAKER_01: It was 26 degree day, 15 mile an hour wind.
- 2:02:40SPEAKER_01: It was cold, paper, hot dog wrapping, blown all around the place.
- 2:02:46SPEAKER_01: But this was a big, big game for Green Bay.
- 2:02:50SPEAKER_01: Because if they win at eight and seven, if they win, they get a wild card.
- 2:02:55SPEAKER_01: If they lose, they go home.
- 2:02:57SPEAKER_01: This was massive.
- 2:02:58SPEAKER_01: Now, they hadn't been in the playoffs in a full season in nine years, 72.
- 2:03:04SPEAKER_01: Bart Starr is hanging on by his fingernails.
- 2:03:07SPEAKER_01: And this is a really big game at Shea Stadium.
- 2:03:14SPEAKER_00: I was going to guess that those were the circumstances.
- 2:03:17SPEAKER_00: I actually remember talking to you about this game back there in Wisconsin.
- 2:03:22SPEAKER_01: So this is an erector set stadium.
- 2:03:25SPEAKER_01: And I remember the press box.
- 2:03:26SPEAKER_01: It was pretty rickety up there.
- 2:03:30SPEAKER_01: And the Jets come in 9-5-1.
- 2:03:33SPEAKER_01: They're trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 69.
- 2:03:38SPEAKER_01: They won it all in 68.
- 2:03:40SPEAKER_01: Playoffs in 69.
- 2:03:42SPEAKER_01: They got a 12-year gap here.
- 2:03:44SPEAKER_01: So 56,000 3-4-0 cram into old Shea.
- 2:03:50SPEAKER_01: And the final score, New York 28, Green Bay 3.
- 2:04:01SPEAKER_00: 84 yards of offense.
- 2:04:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 84.
- 2:04:05SPEAKER_01: 84, that's right.
- 2:04:07SPEAKER_01: So I got our coverage from the Green Bay Press-Gazette here.
- 2:04:13SPEAKER_01: All right, so let's look at this thing.
- 2:04:17SPEAKER_01: That year, Green Bay had 30 picks.
- 2:04:20SPEAKER_01: Their defense, Maurice Harvey had six, the little free safety.
- 2:04:24SPEAKER_01: Unbelievable.
- 2:04:25SPEAKER_01: He was a guy who'd been on the street, most since 1962 for the pack.
- 2:04:31SPEAKER_01: 54 takeaways, most since 65 when they won the Super Bowl, plus 13 turnover differential.
- 2:04:38SPEAKER_01: The pack was two and six.
- 2:04:40SPEAKER_01: And as Tony Walter, the sports editor, no, not the sports editor at that point.
- 2:04:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he probably was.
- 2:04:47SPEAKER_01: Tony wrote, At mid-season, people wore bags over their heads at Lambeau.
- 2:04:53SPEAKER_01: Others showed up at Packer practices with signs calling for Bart Starr's dismissal at Coach.
- 2:05:00SPEAKER_01: There was booing and ugliness.
- 2:05:02SPEAKER_01: This is Tony writing, and I remember that.
- 2:05:05SPEAKER_01: There were bags and there were people walking around outside
- 2:05:09SPEAKER_01: that South Oneida Street practice field with Fire Bart or Bart Must Go or stuff like
- 2:05:14SPEAKER_01: that.
- 2:05:16SPEAKER_01: Well, they're two and six at mid-season.
- 2:05:19SPEAKER_01: And they rip off a 6-1 streak.
- 2:05:22SPEAKER_01: And now you've got organizers in town having pep rallies and some dramatic victories.
- 2:05:29SPEAKER_01: Going to New York, they're on a 6-1 streak.
- 2:05:36SPEAKER_01: So let's look at the lineups on this club.
- 2:05:39SPEAKER_01: The problem was, Tyler, that the pack had injuries on the O-line.
- 2:05:44SPEAKER_01: And they were going against the SAC exchange.
- 2:05:48SPEAKER_01: You ever hear of the SAC exchange?
- 2:05:51SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 2:05:52SPEAKER_01: This is Joe Klecko and Abdul Salam inside with Mark Gastineau and Marty Lyons outside.
- 2:06:04SPEAKER_01: That season,
- 2:06:05SPEAKER_01: Gastineau had 20,
- 2:06:07SPEAKER_01: Klecko 20 and one half, Lyons nine and a half, and I'm not sure about Salam.
- 2:06:13SPEAKER_01: The next year in 82, it became an official NFL staff.
- 2:06:17SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 2:06:19SPEAKER_01: So right off the bat, the pack.
- 2:06:22SPEAKER_01: Well, the pack's got problems on the old line.
- 2:06:25SPEAKER_01: Tim Stokes, the erudite left and right tackle.
- 2:06:29SPEAKER_01: He got hurt out with a leg injury.
- 2:06:31SPEAKER_01: That hurt him.
- 2:06:32SPEAKER_01: Darryl Goldforth, the rugged.
- 2:06:38SPEAKER_01: He was quite a guy from Okie State.
- 2:06:40SPEAKER_01: Darryl Goldforth.
- 2:06:42SPEAKER_01: Knee damage, out, couldn't play, got hurt the week before.
- 2:06:47SPEAKER_01: So, and then, there's a third starter out, I can't think who it was.
- 2:06:55SPEAKER_01: Okay, so goal fourth replacement is Arland Thompson.
- 2:07:01SPEAKER_01: He had been assigned as a free agent in October.
- 2:07:03SPEAKER_01: He'd never played.
- 2:07:06SPEAKER_01: 6'3", 265.
- 2:07:07SPEAKER_01: How do you think he'd hold up today at 265, Tyler, at guard?
- 2:07:11SPEAKER_01: He's the left guard, replacing Goforth.
- 2:07:15SPEAKER_01: He was a fourth-round pick of the Bears a year before.
- 2:07:20SPEAKER_01: Mark Konkar, then,
- 2:07:21SPEAKER_01: the good left tackle,
- 2:07:23SPEAKER_01: first-round pick, he leaves early in the second quarter with a knee injury.
- 2:07:27SPEAKER_01: So what do they got to do?
- 2:07:29SPEAKER_01: They put Sid Kitson, S-Y-D on Sid.
- 2:07:32SPEAKER_01: They moved Sidney in and left tackle.
- 2:07:35SPEAKER_01: He never played there in his life.
- 2:07:37SPEAKER_01: Now he's up against Gastineau and Marty Lyons.
- 2:07:40SPEAKER_01: So the sack exchange,
- 2:07:44SPEAKER_01: now as a boxing fan,
- 2:07:46SPEAKER_01: we called it the sock exchange in boxing to describe our sport,
- 2:07:51SPEAKER_01: but that's the sack exchange, okay?
- 2:07:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:07:55SPEAKER_00: They put up nine sacks on Lynn
- 2:07:57SPEAKER_01: Dickey that day.
- 2:07:58SPEAKER_01: Gastineau had two, Klecko two and a half, Salam one, Lyons two and a half, whatever.
- 2:08:06SPEAKER_01: All kinds of stupid plays.
- 2:08:11SPEAKER_01: How many yards they have, Tyler?
- 2:08:13SPEAKER_01: 84.
- 2:08:16SPEAKER_01: Larry McCarron,
- 2:08:17SPEAKER_01: the center,
- 2:08:19SPEAKER_01: our buddy Larry said,
- 2:08:21SPEAKER_01: I think this ball club has shown from time to time That on any given Sunday,
- 2:08:26SPEAKER_01: we can beat anybody.
- 2:08:28SPEAKER_01: But as we showed today, we can stink up the joint.
- 2:08:34SPEAKER_01: Charlie Annie, this long snapper, had a bad snap on the first punt.
- 2:08:38SPEAKER_01: Thing got bobbled.
- 2:08:40SPEAKER_01: Dickie fumbled twice, balls from center.
- 2:08:44SPEAKER_01: Freddie, they bobbled the Jets' first three kickoffs, wound up with just 35 yards on the return.
- 2:08:51SPEAKER_01: Freddie Nixon screwed up something.
- 2:08:53SPEAKER_01: Mike McCoy, the corner, screwed up a return.
- 2:08:57SPEAKER_01: It was a fire drill.
- 2:09:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, can you imagine Kitson never having played left tackle?
- 2:09:05SPEAKER_01: They left themselves so thin.
- 2:09:08SPEAKER_01: Bart was asked if this was a choke job,
- 2:09:12SPEAKER_01: and Bart stood up very firmly and straight,
- 2:09:17SPEAKER_01: and he said, I wouldn't even dignify that by commenting on it.
- 2:09:21SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 2:09:24SPEAKER_01: The Packers didn't even have the right shoes on.
- 2:09:26SPEAKER_01: They come in there and start playing with – They had cleats on at the beginning of the game.
- 2:09:33SPEAKER_01: They didn't turn to track AstroTurf shoes in the second half.
- 2:09:39SPEAKER_01: That made a difference, but it was too little, too late.
- 2:09:41SPEAKER_01: The Jets had been wearing turf shoes the whole game.
- 2:09:45SPEAKER_01: So Tyler, they got devoured.
- 2:09:50SPEAKER_01: And so then,
- 2:09:55SPEAKER_01: okay, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, let's get this quote.
- 2:10:00SPEAKER_00: The whole game is on YouTube, by the way.
- 2:10:02SPEAKER_00: I've been playing it in the background.
- 2:10:04SPEAKER_00: Is it?
- 2:10:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:10:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 2:10:07SPEAKER_00: 1981 Week 16 Packers versus Jets.
- 2:10:10SPEAKER_00: There it is.
- 2:10:11SPEAKER_00: 16,000 views.
- 2:10:12SPEAKER_01: So John McKay's Buccaneers,
- 2:10:15SPEAKER_01: they come in tied for the NFC Central lead, also with the Pack at 8-7.
- 2:10:21SPEAKER_01: And the Bucs got to go to the Silverdome to meet the Detroit Lions.
- 2:10:27SPEAKER_01: They won the game 20-17 to clinch the Central.
- 2:10:31SPEAKER_01: And what did John say after that game?
- 2:10:34SPEAKER_01: All week long, I read about the dome, meaning the noise at the Silverdome.
- 2:10:39SPEAKER_01: Gentlemen, if we had played in Green Bay today, it would have been 85 degrees below zero.
- 2:10:45SPEAKER_01: In Chicago, it would have been 65 below.
- 2:10:48SPEAKER_01: In Minnesota, it would have been 105 below.
- 2:10:52SPEAKER_01: But it was 75 here.
- 2:10:53SPEAKER_01: This is Tampa weather.
- 2:10:56SPEAKER_01: So...
- 2:10:58SPEAKER_01: So then that was the expiration of Bart's contract.
- 2:11:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:11:05SPEAKER_01: So Bart said after the game,
- 2:11:09SPEAKER_01: no, he said it at his presser on Monday morning upon the return from LaGuardia.
- 2:11:17SPEAKER_01: I deserve to be rehired.
- 2:11:20SPEAKER_01: Now we're going to revisit this next week.
- 2:11:24SPEAKER_01: And what happened when you got a seventh coach who finishes his seventh year?
- 2:11:30SPEAKER_01: He's 47 years old.
- 2:11:32SPEAKER_01: He is 39, 65, and 2 with one winning year, 8, 7, and 1, and 78.
- 2:11:41SPEAKER_01: Do you rehire him or not?
- 2:11:43SPEAKER_01: And by the way,
- 2:11:44SPEAKER_01: also on Monday morning or Tuesday,
- 2:11:46SPEAKER_01: they announced a ticket price at Lambeau for the following year.
- 2:11:51SPEAKER_01: The sideline seats, the best tickets, they were priced at $10 and $11.
- 2:11:57SPEAKER_01: They were moving them to $13, like a 20% raise.
- 2:12:01SPEAKER_01: So that was also newsy.
- 2:12:03SPEAKER_01: Tyler, I think that's about it for my first trip to New York.
- 2:12:10SPEAKER_00: Man, I'm trying to find, so I want to say when we probably talked about it,
- 2:12:21SPEAKER_00: On Bart Starr, when I sat down with him down in Birmingham, we got into his coaching days.
- 2:12:29SPEAKER_00: And this surprised you.
- 2:12:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, because I don't think he had been as open about his coaching tenure.
- 2:12:37SPEAKER_00: So looking back, he regretted taking the job.
- 2:12:44SPEAKER_00: It was a mistake, and I almost knew it from the start.
- 2:12:46SPEAKER_00: I didn't have the guts to say no.
- 2:12:49SPEAKER_00: I hadn't trained to be a coach.
- 2:12:50SPEAKER_00: That takes great training.
- 2:12:52SPEAKER_00: Being an assistant under a Coach Lombardi or a Tom Landry or whoever,
- 2:12:57SPEAKER_00: that prepares you to do a better job when you become a coach.
- 2:13:00SPEAKER_00: I hadn't received that training.
- 2:13:01SPEAKER_00: It showed.
- 2:13:03SPEAKER_00: He went 52-76-3 as a head coach.
- 2:13:08SPEAKER_00: He was there forever.
- 2:13:10SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 2:13:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:13:14SPEAKER_01: Boy, that was an incredible interview, Tyler.
- 2:13:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, thanks.
- 2:13:18SPEAKER_00: It just didn't translate in games like that.
- 2:13:25SPEAKER_00: Man.
- 2:13:28SPEAKER_00: I mentioned it before.
- 2:13:31SPEAKER_00: You can find any game on YouTube, by the way.
- 2:13:33SPEAKER_01: If you're just nostalgic.
- 2:13:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 2:13:36SPEAKER_00: I do it often from the 90s, just looking up random stuff.
- 2:13:40SPEAKER_00: It's all there.
- 2:13:41SPEAKER_01: You go YouTube.com.
- 2:13:43SPEAKER_01: Jets, Packers, 1981, and here comes the full game?
- 2:13:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:13:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 2:13:48SPEAKER_00: There it is.
- 2:13:50SPEAKER_00: Was that the worst loss of his tenure, you think, or would you go to something else?
- 2:13:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, God, no.
- 2:13:55SPEAKER_01: He got beat the year before down at Soldier Field, 61-7.
- 2:14:01SPEAKER_01: We can talk about that.
- 2:14:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, you don't know about that one.
- 2:14:04SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll talk about that sometime.
- 2:14:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:14:08SPEAKER_00: The Packer fans listening are on the edge of their seat.
- 2:14:11SPEAKER_00: They can't wait to relive that one, Bob.
- 2:14:13SPEAKER_00: You got them all excited.
- 2:14:15SPEAKER_01: It's just, you know, I bring this era up because I lived it.
- 2:14:20SPEAKER_01: And this team has been so good for 35 years, 34.
- 2:14:25SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 2:14:26SPEAKER_01: it's just,
- 2:14:27SPEAKER_01: and people don't know this stuff existed,
- 2:14:28SPEAKER_01: but there was almost a 24-year period when they were pretty weak.
- 2:14:33SPEAKER_00: It's just glossed over.
- 2:14:34SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 2:14:35SPEAKER_00: It's part of history.
- 2:14:36SPEAKER_00: You can't.
- 2:14:38SPEAKER_00: You can't just forget about it.
- 2:14:39SPEAKER_00: It's all part of the story of the Packers,
- 2:14:42SPEAKER_00: and that's why they're at a really interesting place right now.
- 2:14:46SPEAKER_00: Far to Rodgers, to Love, to now.
- 2:14:49SPEAKER_00: Matt LaFleur's been there a while.
- 2:14:52SPEAKER_00: The time to win now and be more than a seven seed is here,
- 2:14:57SPEAKER_00: regardless of injuries and what you have going on.
- 2:15:01SPEAKER_00: Let's see it.
- 2:15:03SPEAKER_00: Any final thoughts before we sign off, Bob?
- 2:15:06SPEAKER_01: No, just thank you to our listeners for listening.
- 2:15:11SPEAKER_00: You're dang right.
- 2:15:13SPEAKER_00: Well, boy, to make it through two plus hours of hearing us talk, we greatly appreciate it.
- 2:15:18SPEAKER_00: We would not exist without you.
- 2:15:20SPEAKER_00: And thank you for sharing with a friend.
- 2:15:22SPEAKER_00: That's how we keep this thing growing.
- 2:15:23SPEAKER_00: We'll catch you next week, everyone.
- 2:15:25SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
