- 0:00Speaker 1: Back here at People's Bank Arrana Mike chris Pino, joined
- 0:02Speaker 1: by Luke Murray, the youth con assistant. You just take
- 0:04Speaker 1: a look at the stat sheet, talk a little bit
- 0:06Speaker 1: about what happened on this one, coach. Let's start with
- 0:09Speaker 1: Eric Ryber. How about that sixteen points for the freshman.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We talked to him after the game. He also had
- 0:15Speaker 1: six rebounds in the game and only played nineteen minutes.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I mean, as a first year guy, you have to
- 0:20Speaker 1: like what you're seeing there.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I thought he should have had twenty
- 0:24Speaker 2: and ten, And be honest with you, I thought he
- 0:26Speaker 2: had a couple of plays around the rim that he
- 0:28Speaker 2: could have converted and established a little bit deeper position.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But I do think there was a couple of times
- 0:32Speaker 2: that he was open in the role game that we
- 0:34Speaker 2: didn't find him. But yeah, I mean, I thought for
- 0:36Speaker 2: the most part, he continued to battle. He's got to
- 0:38Speaker 2: continue to get better defensively in terms of his rim
- 0:41Speaker 2: protection and really becoming a force there, and then you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: getting better as a rebounder. You know, it's nice to
- 0:46Speaker 2: see him coming away with six rebounds, but that's something
- 0:48Speaker 2: that he's going to have to really keep working on
- 0:51Speaker 2: but nice to see him have a good scoring output.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Husky's only one block shot tonight, obviously you want
- 0:56Speaker 1: more than that, but assist a turnover ratio seven team
- 1:00Speaker 1: to eight. This is one of those grinder out games.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Who were talking about it off air, but I mean,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't know, how do you explain that. I mean,
- 1:07Speaker 1: you were sitting on the bench watching it the whole night.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's tough. They play an interesting style.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You know, they switch a lot on and off the ball,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and we watched that a lot coming in on tape.
- 1:17Speaker 2: You know, the way that they played against Virginia Tech
- 1:19Speaker 2: and the way that they played in some of their
- 1:20Speaker 2: early season games. They've given some teams some struggles. So
- 1:24Speaker 2: for us, you know, it's a little bit of a
- 1:25Speaker 2: different style. It's something that we're not used to seeing,
- 1:27Speaker 2: so that takes a little bit of thought. But then
- 1:29Speaker 2: I also thought we missed a ton of open shots.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You know, I thought Alex and Solo in particular had
- 1:34Speaker 2: some really clean looks. I thought in the first half,
- 1:36Speaker 2: we didn't convert around the rim as well as we
- 1:38Speaker 2: needed to. We were only shooting fifty percent at the rim,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and our game goal was seventy percent at the rim
- 1:43Speaker 2: in terms of our conversion rate. So yeah, I just
- 1:46Speaker 2: you know, maybe it's a little bit of that shooting variance.
- 1:48Speaker 2: You know, I think our assist numbers could have easily
- 1:50Speaker 2: been into the twenties if we kind of shoot the
- 1:52Speaker 2: way that we're taped typically capable of. But I give
- 1:55Speaker 2: them a little bit of credit. You know, they're the
- 1:56Speaker 2: tallest team in the country combined height on their roster,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and so they have some length on the perimeter. They
- 2:01Speaker 2: get some late contests, and like I said, the switching
- 2:04Speaker 2: is a little bit unique.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Oh, you held them under thirty percent shooting though. As
- 2:08Speaker 1: far as field goal percentage, how much of that was
- 2:11Speaker 1: your defense do you think? And how much was of
- 2:13Speaker 1: that was them just poor shooting.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think it was the defense. You know, That's really
- 2:17Speaker 2: what coaches emphasized for the last couple of days coming
- 2:19Speaker 2: out of Arizona. You know, disappointed and obviously the way
- 2:22Speaker 2: that we rebounded the ball and the way that we
- 2:24Speaker 2: defended the paint. So you know, this is a different
- 2:26Speaker 2: type of game. Arizona was, you know, in the three
- 2:29Speaker 2: fifties in the country, and the percentage of their shots
- 2:31Speaker 2: that come from three Bryant was the opposite. You know,
- 2:33Speaker 2: half of their shots are threes. It's top twenty five
- 2:36Speaker 2: in the country. You know, percentage of shots coming from three.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You see it even tonight. I mean, they made eleven
- 2:40Speaker 2: field goals in the game, and seven of them were three.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So that's kind of what they do, is play along
- 2:44Speaker 2: the perimeter. But I thought we were really disruptive. We
- 2:46Speaker 2: had twenty one forced turnovers. I thought we were, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: an inch or two away from having twenty four twenty
- 2:51Speaker 2: five on plays that we deflected or almost stole. So
- 2:54Speaker 2: I thought our defensive intensity was really good, and I
- 2:56Speaker 2: thought that that, more than anything, probably affected their shot man.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You know, we made a couple of mistakes in the
- 3:02Speaker 2: second half and a little pocket in the first half
- 3:04Speaker 2: where we think we'd let up our guard a little bit,
- 3:06Speaker 2: but by and large, I mean we held him below
- 3:09Speaker 2: our game goal. Our game goal was point eight to
- 3:11Speaker 2: one points per possession, and they scored points seventy five,
- 3:13Speaker 2: So we're pretty happy with that.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Luke Murray with his final question for is Silas
- 3:17Speaker 1: Demery Junior again showing what point guards are supposed to do.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I always two for eight from the field, did not
- 3:24Speaker 1: make a three, but Luke ten rebounds, ten points, ten assists.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I mean, point guards are funny. I mean I've been
- 3:32Speaker 1: around guys like Jason Kidd and he played games where
- 3:35Speaker 1: he didn't score points and the Nets would win by twenty.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of ways that guys like
- 3:40Speaker 1: Demery can impact a game.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, for sure, And I thought he did
- 3:44Speaker 2: a next job. It reminds me a lot of t News.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I think maybe his first triple double here against Buffalo
- 3:49Speaker 2: in the twenty three season, where he didn't necessarily play
- 3:52Speaker 2: the most esthetically pleasing offensive game, but just sort of
- 3:55Speaker 2: stayed in the mix. You know, Silas had three offensive rebounds,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know, was big on the defensive glass in the
- 3:59Speaker 2: first half, made some nice decisions with the ball against
- 4:03Speaker 2: their switching defense, like I said, and just sort of
- 4:05Speaker 2: grinded it out. So I give him a lot of
- 4:07Speaker 2: credit for the way that he competed, and the triple
- 4:08Speaker 2: doubles obviously always special.
- 4:10Speaker 1: All right, coach, appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving. I'll see you
- 4:13Speaker 1: in New York.
- 4:14Speaker 2: See you in New York. Thanks my, that's Luke Murray.
