- 2:05Speaker 3: throw this out there though, before we get to our
- 2:08Speaker 3: guests this morning, and of course your phone calls and
- 2:10Speaker 3: text too. We did have a text to the show
- 2:13Speaker 3: actually came in not long ago. If you're coming into
- 2:15Speaker 3: Charleston eastbound this morning, please note there, at least early
- 2:19Speaker 3: when I came in, a major, major backup. Of course,
- 2:22Speaker 3: I come in, you know, around seven thirty when everybody's
- 2:25Speaker 3: trying to come into Charleston. But they're doing some work
- 2:27Speaker 3: out there on the interstates, and I'm talking about maybe
- 2:29Speaker 3: an area from Montrose on into Charleston, and there were
- 2:33Speaker 3: some major backups this morning, so that's going to be
- 2:35Speaker 3: They're doing some work out there, and it looks like
- 2:37Speaker 3: it's going to be a while. So just please use caution,
- 2:40Speaker 3: maybe leave a little bit early if you got to
- 2:41Speaker 3: come to the city for some sort of an appointment
- 2:43Speaker 3: or something. Just know that you have been informed. And
- 2:46Speaker 3: I appreciate our listeners for letting us know that. Coming
- 2:49Speaker 3: up a little bit later on the show, last night's
- 2:51Speaker 3: Canawa County Board of Education meeting, it's major bombshells dropped
- 2:54Speaker 3: in that meeting, including some school consolidations, and we're not
- 2:58Speaker 3: talking about just one or two. We're talking about the
- 3:00Speaker 3: possibility of major consolidations if the plan goes through. Doctor
- 3:05Speaker 3: Tom Williams, Superintendent Kadaan County Schools, will join us to
- 3:08Speaker 3: talk about that a little bit later on. But Stephen
- 3:10Speaker 3: Allen Stephen Allan Adams from Ogden Newspapers will be stopping
- 3:14Speaker 3: by as well. So let's get to our first guest.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Mark Carter's here, Mark Carter. I'm having trouble talking this
- 3:21Speaker 3: morning for some reason. Mark Carter's here. He's a candidate
- 3:24Speaker 3: for House of Delia. It's Mark, good morning, welcome to
- 3:25Speaker 3: the show.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Good morning to you, Dave. Thank you for having me on.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Maybe you can do a
- 3:29Speaker 3: little bit better than I am this morning, as seeing
- 3:31Speaker 3: to be jumping all over the place.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Ladies and gentlemen. You don't know how many papers this
- 3:35Speaker 5: man is Sheffley. It's an amazing display of skill.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if it's skill. I don't know,
- 3:40Speaker 3: it's it's over preparedness or something. I don't know what
- 3:43Speaker 3: it is. So you're running for HOUSEA Deela gets explained
- 3:46Speaker 3: the district again? What areas it covers?
- 3:48Speaker 4: Sure?
- 3:49Speaker 5: The district I'm running in is the fifty seventh district.
- 3:52Speaker 5: It's composed of Fort Hill, the residential community west of
- 3:57Speaker 5: US one, nineteen South Charles and Dunbar, the larger parts
- 4:02Speaker 5: of both of those cities. It's an urban district and
- 4:06Speaker 5: it has been represented by a delegate, Doug scaff He
- 4:11Speaker 5: withdrew last year. He was replaced by the governor. So
- 4:15Speaker 5: neither of the two candidates have been elected to the office.
- 4:18Speaker 5: And I have thrown my hat in. I've been encouraged
- 4:20Speaker 5: to get involved in this race. I'm delighted. I have been.
- 4:24Speaker 5: If nothing else, It's been wonderful to meet the people
- 4:27Speaker 5: of the district and I'm going to continue to visit
- 4:30Speaker 5: with folks in the district and learn what the issues
- 4:34Speaker 5: are and address those issues when I'm in office.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Now, you're pretty well known Mark around the area. But
- 4:40Speaker 3: for those that don't know you, give us the buyo
- 4:42Speaker 3: on Mark Carter.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Well, I'm a lawyer. Please don't blame me. I'm a
- 4:47Speaker 5: lawyer and I've been not all bad. I've been a
- 4:49Speaker 5: lawyer in West Virginia for thirty eight years in Charleston,
- 4:53Speaker 5: and I have just fell in love with the state.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I've had the opportunity. I'm a West Virginian by choice,
- 5:00Speaker 5: but my family's from here, so I have West Virginia
- 5:02Speaker 5: blood in me and I have married here. I've raised
- 5:06Speaker 5: a family here. My son is now working at NASA
- 5:10Speaker 5: and Fairmont as a software engineer, protecting our astronauts and
- 5:16Speaker 5: our spacecraft. I have, but I've also been involved in
- 5:20Speaker 5: public service, and I've loved it. I was appointed by
- 5:22Speaker 5: President Bush in two thousand and two served for seven
- 5:25Speaker 5: years on the Federal Service Impasses Panel. I was then
- 5:29Speaker 5: appointed to chairman of that panel by President Trump and
- 5:33Speaker 5: the panel I was selected to be an objective, fair
- 5:36Speaker 5: arbitrator of labor issues impacting the federal government. It's my career.
- 5:42Speaker 5: I've loved it. I'm going to continue to practice law,
- 5:46Speaker 5: but I want to focus on my neighbors. I want
- 5:48Speaker 5: to focus on our state and improving the standard of
- 5:54Speaker 5: living of West Virginians. That's my goal.
- 5:57Speaker 3: And I always ask people why they're running for office.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I mean, and again we're talking to Mark Carter, who's
- 6:01Speaker 3: a candidate for House of Delegates. You've got this resume,
- 6:05Speaker 3: these things that you've done in the past, and let's
- 6:06Speaker 3: face it, you don't really need to do this, but
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's a want two thing for you, right.
- 6:11Speaker 5: It's very much a want two thing. I think the
- 6:12Speaker 5: trigger and I explained it last time I was on
- 6:15Speaker 5: dave Is. I've driven up the same holler for the
- 6:19Speaker 5: last thirty some years on my way to work, coming
- 6:22Speaker 5: home from work, and on that trip, that short trip
- 6:25Speaker 5: in this holler, I see people every morning walking out
- 6:29Speaker 5: to the bus stop in various uniforms, fast food job,
- 6:35Speaker 5: different types of jobs. And they're walking there because they
- 6:38Speaker 5: can't afford a car. I want them to be able
- 6:40Speaker 5: to afford their own car.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Now, what is it that you could do to make
- 6:44Speaker 3: them to be able to afford their own car.
- 6:46Speaker 5: There's a lot of things that our legislature can do
- 6:49Speaker 5: to help people reach their potential economically. First and foremost,
- 6:56Speaker 5: we need to recruit and encourage employers to either expand
- 7:01Speaker 5: their business within the valley and the state, or to
- 7:03Speaker 5: come to our valley and state. The fifty seventh District
- 7:08Speaker 5: has a rich history of tremendous industrial production, and we
- 7:12Speaker 5: need to resuscitate that. And it's not that hard. I've
- 7:16Speaker 5: been doing this for thirty eight years. I've been working
- 7:19Speaker 5: with employers to help them select locations to go to.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I haven't been able to convince them to come to
- 7:25Speaker 5: my state because of several laws. We've addressed several of them.
- 7:30Speaker 5: We need to address more of them in order to
- 7:33Speaker 5: give them the proper incentives to come in and let
- 7:36Speaker 5: our folks reach their economic potential.
- 7:39Speaker 3: And we are seeing some people come into West Virginia
- 7:41Speaker 3: in various other places. I mean, you know, we talk
- 7:44Speaker 3: about New Core and we talk about these various other projects.
- 7:47Speaker 3: We are seeing people come in, but not only Mark.
- 7:49Speaker 3: How do we get people to come here, but how
- 7:51Speaker 3: do we get our young people to want to stay here.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I mean, you talked about your son who's working for NASA,
- 7:55Speaker 3: but he's working in West Virginia. So that's not the
- 7:59Speaker 3: case with a lot of people and their kids. They're
- 8:01Speaker 3: going off to Columbus, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, you know, wherever they
- 8:04Speaker 3: may be going. How do we get more people to
- 8:07Speaker 3: want to stay in West Virginia.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Well, people do want to stay in West Virginia, and
- 8:12Speaker 5: I think that's clear. We have a wonderful state. We
- 8:14Speaker 5: have a beautiful state. We have the kindest people in
- 8:17Speaker 5: the United States of America. It's not a matter of
- 8:20Speaker 5: getting folks to want to be here it's giving them
- 8:22Speaker 5: an opportunity to be here by providing them with an
- 8:26Speaker 5: opportunity for employment that doesn't hurt them financially. We're competing
- 8:30Speaker 5: against North Carolina, We're competing against Virginia in order to
- 8:35Speaker 5: give our people the opportunity to work and earn what
- 8:40Speaker 5: they could earn in these other states. My son did it.
- 8:44Speaker 5: I don't want him to be the aberration. What can
- 8:46Speaker 5: we do. Here's the first thing we need to do
- 8:48Speaker 5: in my district. We need to elect people who have
- 8:52Speaker 5: done it before, who are in the majority party, who
- 8:56Speaker 5: have the ear of the House leadership, the Senate leadership,
- 8:59Speaker 5: and the governor office in order to make real change.
- 9:02Speaker 5: We all know that people who are rubbing against the
- 9:08Speaker 5: majority generally don't get to accomplish the objections or the
- 9:13Speaker 5: objectives that they wish to. I want to work cannon
- 9:16Speaker 5: glove with my good friend Roger Hanshaw. I want to
- 9:19Speaker 5: work cannon glove with the new governor and with the
- 9:22Speaker 5: new Senate president. And I know these people and have
- 9:26Speaker 5: worked with them in the past. By being able to
- 9:29Speaker 5: do that, I'm going to be able to I'm going
- 9:31Speaker 5: to be able to help my neighbors get better jobs.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Because we're going to bring in more employers.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Talking to Mark Carter again, who is a Republican candidate
- 9:40Speaker 3: for a House of Delegates District fifty seven. The day
- 9:43Speaker 3: Valid show in five Any Live brought to you part

- 10:09Speaker 3: How's the campaign been so far?
- 10:10Speaker 5: Market campaign's been great. I've gotten to meet a lot
- 10:13Speaker 5: of different folks both in my neighborhood and in my communities,
- 10:17Speaker 5: as well as in the business community. You know, Dave,
- 10:19Speaker 5: I just got back from the West Virginia Business Summit,
- 10:22Speaker 5: and I've been active in the State Chamber of the
- 10:24Speaker 5: United States Chamber for many years. One slide really just
- 10:29Speaker 5: hit me right in the gut that was presented by
- 10:31Speaker 5: Rex Repass doing the West Virginia poll, and that slide
- 10:34Speaker 5: reported that voters concerns this year, in this election, forty
- 10:39Speaker 5: one percent of voters are concerned about the economy and
- 10:42Speaker 5: about jobs, about inflation and about having a job that's
- 10:45Speaker 5: going to be able to pay for those raise prices
- 10:48Speaker 5: and more. All Right, everything else combined was less than
- 10:52Speaker 5: forty one percent. It's a one issue election. Same time,
- 10:58Speaker 5: I'm talking to business leaders about what do they need
- 11:01Speaker 5: to persuade them to come to the state of West Virginia.
- 11:04Speaker 5: And I've talked to them about this before, various leaders. Okay,
- 11:08Speaker 5: we've made progress on taxes, we've made progress on our
- 11:11Speaker 5: labor climate. What do we need now, Well, I'll tell
- 11:14Speaker 5: you what they say. They say, education needs to be addressed.
- 11:17Speaker 5: We need to be able to turn out people from
- 11:21Speaker 5: our school systems who are able to read, write, operate
- 11:24Speaker 5: a computer, who are literate. Right, it's not that big
- 11:30Speaker 5: of a task. It's not that challenging, or shouldn't be.
- 11:34Speaker 5: And that's going to be one of the focuses that
- 11:36Speaker 5: I'm going to have when I get into office.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I think it's interesting what you said about the rex
- 11:41Speaker 3: repass poll and what was revealed at the at the
- 11:45Speaker 3: Chamber event last week to business summit down to Greenbrier.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Because Mark, we hear so many things on this show
- 11:52Speaker 3: and other places about all these hot button issues, the
- 11:55Speaker 3: social issues and so on and so forth. But it's
- 11:58Speaker 3: and I'm not going to put you in a tough
- 11:59Speaker 3: position here because I know you were concerned about those
- 12:01Speaker 3: as well, but it's not what the public is really
- 12:05Speaker 3: that interested in.
- 12:06Speaker 5: As you said, Oh, you're one hundred percent right. What
- 12:08Speaker 5: the public is interested in doesn't always jibe with what
- 12:12Speaker 5: the hot media issues are. And we all know that
- 12:14Speaker 5: clicks matter in the media industry, and if you hear
- 12:19Speaker 5: things about librarians going to prison and such, that's going
- 12:23Speaker 5: to get attention. And I'm not saying it shouldn't get
- 12:25Speaker 5: attention if it merits it. But what I am saying
- 12:28Speaker 5: is the most important issue facing our state today is
- 12:32Speaker 5: the same one that it was fifty years ago and
- 12:36Speaker 5: one hundred years ago. We don't deserve to make less
- 12:39Speaker 5: in the state of West Virginia than people from Ohio
- 12:42Speaker 5: or Virginia. We deserve to make the same or more,
- 12:46Speaker 5: and that's the appropriate goal. And there's a way to
- 12:49Speaker 5: do it. Taxes, education, labor climate are the three primary
- 12:56Speaker 5: legs of this three legged stool for economic development. Where
- 13:00Speaker 5: we made significant progress on two of them, we got
- 13:04Speaker 5: one more to go, and I think we need to
- 13:06Speaker 5: get it.
- 13:07Speaker 3: In a text of the show before we let you go,
- 13:08Speaker 3: someone said about your plan for job creation. You mentioned that,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and you mentioned, according to the texture that your friends
- 13:16Speaker 3: and you know you have, you're on a good first
- 13:18Speaker 3: name basis with a lot of the legislature. But the
- 13:20Speaker 3: texture wanted to know about your actual plan. Where can
- 13:23Speaker 3: they see a plan? Do you have an actual plan?
- 13:26Speaker 5: The actual plan for a House delegate, I'd like to
- 13:29Speaker 5: see anybody. The actual plan is fairly simple. It's modeled
- 13:35Speaker 5: after some research done by two or three of the
- 13:39Speaker 5: think tanks in Washington that I've worked with when I
- 13:42Speaker 5: was serving in President Trump's administration, and the primary basis
- 13:47Speaker 5: for the plan is to have a tax system that
- 13:51Speaker 5: doesn't gouge employees or businesses, to have a labor climate
- 13:56Speaker 5: that doesn't insent labor disputes and strife, and to have
- 14:00Speaker 5: an education system that produces average or above average students
- 14:05Speaker 5: who are willing to stay and work in their state. Again,
- 14:08Speaker 5: I think that we have people who want to stay home.
- 14:11Speaker 5: I think that our graduates would prefer, in the best case,
- 14:15Speaker 5: to remain in West Virginia. The issue is whether or
- 14:17Speaker 5: not the jobs are there. We're making progress. We are
- 14:20Speaker 5: hearing and seeing more and more employers coming here because
- 14:24Speaker 5: they know it's a great place to establish a business.
- 14:28Speaker 5: We have to create more of those opportunities for our
- 14:31Speaker 5: citizens through more of those employees.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Do you have a website or social media where somebody
- 14:35Speaker 3: can find out more about you?
- 14:36Speaker 5: Absolutely? The website is Mark Carter for wv dot com.
- 14:41Speaker 5: You can go to Facebook and see the posts regarding
- 14:44Speaker 5: the campaign, what's going on, and what I'm actually saying.
- 14:48Speaker 5: And for the Texter, please go to the website. Give
- 14:51Speaker 5: me a call. I'm happy to talk to you, and
- 14:53Speaker 5: I'm also happy to plant a yard sign in your
- 14:56Speaker 5: lawn if you would like one. And that goes for
- 14:58Speaker 5: all of your audience.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Give me thirty seconds watching somebody vote for you.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Because I am in a position where I will be
- 15:06Speaker 5: able to work with House leadership, and let's face it,
- 15:10Speaker 5: Roger Hanschaw encouraged me to do this because he thinks
- 15:13Speaker 5: that I'm up to the job, and I have had
- 15:17Speaker 5: nothing but encouragement from all of the friends I have
- 15:20Speaker 5: within both the Senate and the House of Delegates, and
- 15:24Speaker 5: the Governor's office, frankly, who think that I can make
- 15:27Speaker 5: a positive contribution for our state. I passed on a
- 15:32Speaker 5: substantial position in Washington, d C. That I would have
- 15:36Speaker 5: received during the current administration. And I'm a Republican because
- 15:40Speaker 5: I wanted to stay home and help my folks, my people,
- 15:44Speaker 5: my family, my friends in the state of West Virginia.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I'm committed to doing it. Like I said the first
- 15:50Speaker 5: time I was on here, I'm going to go after it.
- 15:52Speaker 5: I'm going to get it.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Mark Carter, Republican for District fifty seven in the House.

- 19:41Speaker 9: On that thing in regards to population. The problem with
- 19:44Speaker 9: the population charts is that's factoring in people that die,
- 19:48Speaker 9: and it's factoring in, obviously people that move or whatnot.
- 19:52Speaker 10: The one thing.
- 19:53Speaker 9: That's not really that you can't see is the inward
- 19:55Speaker 9: migration numbers. And the dirty secret is the inward migration
- 19:59Speaker 9: numbers of the state of West Virginia had been up.
- 20:02Speaker 9: Now not buy a lot, but they are actually up.
- 20:05Speaker 9: People are moving here. The problem is people are dying
- 20:08Speaker 9: faster than what they're moving here.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So people just shouldn't die.
- 20:11Speaker 10: That's exactly right.
- 20:12Speaker 3: We should listen, Grandma, hang on.
- 20:14Speaker 9: Yeah, let's bring immortality back.
- 20:16Speaker 10: I think we do that.
- 20:18Speaker 3: And by the way, Steven had no you know, Steven
- 20:20Speaker 3: said he was defending me. He had no idea that
- 20:22Speaker 3: text was even there. We didn't talk about doing the break.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I just roll.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I appreciate it, man. But that's a very good point though,
- 20:28Speaker 3: I mean, and one of the things. And you're somebody
- 20:31Speaker 3: that has had an opportunity to work in other markets,
- 20:33Speaker 3: but you're a West Virginia guy, and he chose Pleasan's
- 20:36Speaker 3: County chose to be here. I'm a West Virginia guy
- 20:39Speaker 3: who chose to be here. The problem is is that
- 20:42Speaker 3: we got to get more of us to want to
- 20:45Speaker 3: remain here. I mean, we want, we want, as you said,
- 20:47Speaker 3: outward migration, we want people coming in, but we got
- 20:50Speaker 3: to get more people, especially not old guys like us,
- 20:53Speaker 3: but especially we need to have you know, these twenty three,
- 20:56Speaker 3: twenty four to twenty five year olds that are maybe
- 20:58Speaker 3: just getting out of college, or even if they don't
- 21:00Speaker 3: go to college, just whatever that their post high school
- 21:03Speaker 3: training is. We got to get them to want to
- 21:05Speaker 3: stay here.
- 21:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:07Speaker 9: One of the I think West Virginia Pawlo broadcasting a
- 21:09Speaker 9: few years ago to a thing called the Struggle to Stay,
- 21:11Speaker 9: and I never liked that terminology. And I get some
- 21:15Speaker 9: people leave the state for say politics, for example, the
- 21:19Speaker 9: state has gotten more read. I get that, though almost
- 21:22Speaker 9: everyone that tells me that they're leaving because of the
- 21:24Speaker 9: state's politics tell me they're going to a state that's
- 21:26Speaker 9: more red than we are, like Ohio or Florida. So
- 21:29Speaker 9: I'd be navigates that. But I almost moved out of
- 21:33Speaker 9: here probably twenty thirteen. I was up for a job
- 21:36Speaker 9: in DC. Ultimately didn't get it, so I stayed, and
- 21:41Speaker 9: I'm glad that I did stay.
- 21:44Speaker 10: My wife is.
- 21:44Speaker 9: From Ioming County. I'm from Pleasants County. You know, we've
- 21:48Speaker 9: made it work, and you're right, we need people, especially
- 21:52Speaker 9: young adults, middle aged adults, to make it a point
- 21:56Speaker 9: to stay here and create what we would like to
- 22:00Speaker 9: see and build that now. That way more people will

- 22:22Speaker 3: people aren't paying attention to the news. Case in point,
- 22:26Speaker 3: the info that came out as part of the West
- 22:27Speaker 3: Virginia poll, and Brad has a story posted about at
- 22:30Speaker 3: WV metronews dot com. You probably wrote about it as well.
- 22:33Speaker 3: The majority of people polled said they have heard quote
- 22:36Speaker 3: little or nothing at all about the financial issues surrounding

- 22:44Speaker 3: they say they've heard little or nothing at all about it.
- 22:47Speaker 9: Well, I'm personally not surprised, and I don't know if
- 22:50Speaker 9: you're being sarcastic there, but I'm not being very hard Okay, good,
- 22:55Speaker 9: You're like, as they say in Tommy Boy, I could
- 22:58Speaker 9: detect it because you're laying it on thick. Yeah, I
- 23:02Speaker 9: can tell you I could write about a story name,
- 23:05Speaker 9: you know, just pick a story. I could write about
- 23:07Speaker 9: that several times, say five or six times over a
- 23:10Speaker 9: span of a couple months. I will still get the
- 23:13Speaker 9: inevitable email from a reader that's mad because nobody's covering
- 23:18Speaker 9: this issue, and why aren't you covering this issue? And
- 23:20Speaker 9: I send that person back all five or six links,
- 23:23Speaker 9: like what are you talking about? I have been writing
- 23:25Speaker 9: about this issue non stop, the same thing for this Unfortunately,
- 23:29Speaker 9: you got a lot of voters out there. I've never
- 23:32Speaker 9: liked to term like low info. It makes them sound stupid.
- 23:35Speaker 9: They're not stupid, but they're just not paying attention until
- 23:38Speaker 9: closer to say, early voting or even election day itself,
- 23:41Speaker 9: so they're not really reading the front page of the
- 23:44Speaker 9: paper or going for the inside for the local page,
- 23:46Speaker 9: or to go into the sports page or Unfortunately, we
- 23:49Speaker 9: seem to be more interested in national news more than
- 23:51Speaker 9: anything else. To focus a lot on that. They're not
- 23:54Speaker 9: reading a lot of this news, particularly about Jim Justice
- 23:58Speaker 9: and his financials, and none of this is new news.
- 24:00Speaker 9: You know. This was this came up in sixteen. It
- 24:02Speaker 9: came up in twenty and it's coming up now. I
- 24:06Speaker 9: will hear from people, I guarantee it. They're like, why
- 24:08Speaker 9: didn't you worry about this issue? Like are you kidding?
- 24:11Speaker 9: Like all I've done is right about this issue. People
- 24:13Speaker 9: just aren't paying any attention and they probably won't tool
- 24:16Speaker 9: closer to it in election.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Well what about those people that are paying attention that
- 24:18Speaker 3: simply don't care?
- 24:20Speaker 2: Steven?
- 24:20Speaker 3: I had someone the other day who is a big
- 24:22Speaker 3: Jim Justice supporter tell me that the only one that
- 24:25Speaker 3: cares about these issues this was his words or the media.
- 24:28Speaker 3: No one else seems to care about this. I mean,
- 24:30Speaker 3: look at Jim Justice's popularity. I mean, polls come out,
- 24:33Speaker 3: He's going. With all due respect to Wheeling mayor Glenn Elliott,
- 24:36Speaker 3: Jim Justice is going to win and when big come
- 24:39Speaker 3: November and he's going to be the next US Senator.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Now how long he'll be there it seems to be
- 24:44Speaker 3: quite a bit of debate, and it will debate that
- 24:46Speaker 3: when the time comes. But is it the fact that
- 24:49Speaker 3: they are that they know about it and just simply
- 24:51Speaker 3: just don't just don't care.
- 24:53Speaker 9: Well, I'll give you an example. I was at the
- 24:55Speaker 9: West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Business Summit all three days
- 24:58Speaker 9: last week. I didn't stay at the Great, I stayed
- 25:00Speaker 9: out of Super eight, but I was there. Basically, I'm
- 25:04Speaker 9: a newspaper reporter. I make good money, but it's not
- 25:07Speaker 9: that good.
- 25:08Speaker 3: If you're at the immediate people are staying to the Greenbrier.
- 25:10Speaker 3: You guys are sharing like eight to a room probably.
- 25:12Speaker 10: Oh yeah, like bunk beds for sure. Yeah.
- 25:16Speaker 9: It's one of those situations where I've talked to a
- 25:17Speaker 9: few people there, and the sense I get is, I
- 25:20Speaker 9: think people are tired of the things that they do
- 25:24Speaker 9: keep seeing about Jim Justice. I think they're kind of
- 25:27Speaker 9: tired of the stick. I think they're tired of these headlines.
- 25:30Speaker 9: But with all that being said, I kept getting told
- 25:33Speaker 9: that they're going to vote for him anyway. And most
- 25:35Speaker 9: of them are going to vote for him anyway. Is
- 25:37Speaker 9: they want to make sure that the Senate gets to
- 25:39Speaker 9: at least fifty one to forty nine, which I think
- 25:42Speaker 9: they expect that with Republicans in the majority, they know
- 25:46Speaker 9: Justice will be a dedicated vote for the Republican side
- 25:49Speaker 9: of things. And also many people don't really think he's
- 25:53Speaker 9: going to be there all six years now, we've heard
- 25:55Speaker 9: that for the first two terms of Governor Justice's term
- 25:57Speaker 9: if he wouldn't serve out either. But there is the
- 26:00Speaker 9: real possibility that he could not serve out an entire
- 26:03Speaker 9: six year term. So I think people are tired of
- 26:06Speaker 9: this stuff, but they're going to vote for him anyway
- 26:08Speaker 9: because they want that our name on that particular space.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're right. Senator Manchin Steven is going to
- 26:17Speaker 3: be on with Hopy at the top of the show
- 26:19Speaker 3: this morning. What's the future, if any for Joe Mancham.
- 26:22Speaker 3: He's not going to go away. I mean we all
- 26:23Speaker 3: know that. What do you see in the future for
- 26:26Speaker 3: Joe Manchem? But it depends on man. Does it depend
- 26:29Speaker 3: on who's elected come November?
- 26:31Speaker 9: I think it does depend on who is elected come November.
- 26:34Speaker 9: I think if it's Justice, I think Mansion works with
- 26:37Speaker 9: his daughter, Heather Brush, who formed that pack that they're
- 26:41Speaker 9: trying to do to five out one C FOURD. It's
- 26:43Speaker 9: going to be focused pretty much on moderates and independence
- 26:46Speaker 9: and trying to get people to pay attention to that
- 26:49Speaker 9: side of things and try to bring the fringes of
- 26:52Speaker 9: the right and left back towards the center. I think
- 26:55Speaker 9: if Kamala Harris is elected president in November. I think
- 27:00Speaker 9: there's a real opportunity that Justice will angle for a
- 27:04Speaker 9: position in her cabinet of some sort.
- 27:06Speaker 10: I could actually see that what that was he was.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Supposed to talk let me just interrupt here on Hoppy's
- 27:11Speaker 3: show and in the show notes that we all share
- 27:13Speaker 3: the show, he's supposed to talk about about the Harris
- 27:16Speaker 3: Walls ticket. That's one of the things he's supposed to
- 27:19Speaker 3: talk about with Hoppy today. It'd be interesting to get
- 27:20Speaker 3: his take on that.
- 27:21Speaker 9: Yeah, No, I mean he came out obviously, we knew
- 27:24Speaker 9: there was at least a brief moment where he toy
- 27:26Speaker 9: about getting back into the race as a Democrat, trying to.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Throw four hours on that Sunday, four.
- 27:31Speaker 9: Hours on that Sunday. Absolutely, but he did very quickly
- 27:35Speaker 9: call us around Kamala Harris, and he was very quick
- 27:39Speaker 9: to throw his support behind Tim Walls when he got
- 27:41Speaker 9: named as the vice presidential pick for for Harris. So
- 27:45Speaker 9: he seems to be all in on that, and that's
- 27:48Speaker 9: probably a good thing for them because Mansion, as someone
- 27:52Speaker 9: who is a moderate, can recruit more moderates independence to
- 27:56Speaker 9: vote for Harris. So there may be a future for
- 27:59Speaker 9: him on in that realm.
- 28:02Speaker 11: If she gets elected, tex says, hey day, the young
- 28:04Speaker 11: people are leaving for two reasons, job opportunities and horrible
- 28:08Speaker 11: politics from the super majorities on both sides over the years.
- 28:13Speaker 9: I'll go back. I'll go back to what I said earlier.
- 28:16Speaker 9: I know a lot of people who have told me
- 28:18Speaker 9: they're leaving the state for politics. Okay, well where are
- 28:21Speaker 9: you going. Well, I'm going to Columbus, Ohio. You're going
- 28:26Speaker 9: to a red state. Yes, you're going to a city
- 28:28Speaker 9: that is blue in a red state, but you're going
- 28:30Speaker 9: to a red state. I had someone else go, I'm
- 28:32Speaker 9: going I'm going to Florida. You're going to another part
- 28:36Speaker 9: of your red state. Now, you might be going to
- 28:38Speaker 9: some big city like Orlando or Fort Lauderdale or something
- 28:42Speaker 9: like that, but look, most of.
- 28:44Speaker 3: It comes out of the capitol. Yeah, is going to
- 28:47Speaker 3: govern what goes on in.
- 28:48Speaker 9: Your ecly Yeah? No, I mean it's just one of
- 28:50Speaker 9: those things where unless you're telling me you're going to
- 28:53Speaker 9: California or New York, and good luck with that because
- 28:55Speaker 9: those places are expensive, you're probably going to Tennessee or
- 28:59Speaker 9: you're going to Texas. You're going to a different red state.
- 29:02Speaker 10: It's not.
- 29:02Speaker 9: You could say it's politics, but I think there's other
- 29:05Speaker 9: factors at work.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Tex says today, the reason why folks don't care about
- 29:09Speaker 3: Jim Justice except the media is because most don't listen
- 29:11Speaker 3: to the media because they don't trust them. This includes
- 29:14Speaker 3: local media. They don't trust us.
- 29:17Speaker 9: Steve oh Man, Well, I mean, I don't know what
- 29:19Speaker 9: to tell you if you don't trust us, because I
- 29:21Speaker 9: mean I can understand to some extent some distrust in
- 29:24Speaker 9: national media. I don't think local media has given anybody
- 29:29Speaker 9: any reason to distrust them again, or all people that
- 29:33Speaker 9: live here, that know the areas, that know everything about
- 29:39Speaker 9: the state, and pretty much everyone that you hear, whether
- 29:42Speaker 9: it's Amelia brad I can go down the list.
- 29:45Speaker 10: Most of us are from here in some part of.
- 29:48Speaker 9: The state, and I just don't think local media, whether
- 29:52Speaker 9: you're talking about newspapers, radio, TV, I don't think we've
- 29:56Speaker 9: given anyone that reason to have that same level of
- 29:59Speaker 9: this trust.
- 30:00Speaker 10: But could well, I mean.
- 30:01Speaker 3: A lot of that I think, too, Stephen comes from
- 30:03Speaker 3: the top, because a lot of these people have heard
- 30:06Speaker 3: the term fake news, fake news and look like you
- 30:08Speaker 3: said on the national media. Fox News admitted in court
- 30:11Speaker 3: that they're not a news organization, okay. And that's okay.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I mean Rush Limbaugh, who was one of my idols,
- 30:17Speaker 3: you know, because he basically saved AM Radio. Rush never
- 30:20Speaker 3: claimed to be a trusted news source. He gave opinions,
- 30:24Speaker 3: he said he entertainment. He was an entertainer. And uh
- 30:26Speaker 3: and and that's and that's a big part of it.
- 30:28Speaker 3: But I think though that that as you said about
- 30:32Speaker 3: about local media and the texture, and I appreciate the texture,
- 30:35Speaker 3: you know, putting that out there because sometimes, you know,
- 30:37Speaker 3: we all need to be called to the carpet every
- 30:39Speaker 3: now and then. But I will tell you we all
- 30:41Speaker 3: get along in the media game here in this area.
- 30:44Speaker 3: But there's no union meeting. You know, we all don't
- 30:47Speaker 3: get together. We don't get talking points from you know,
- 30:49Speaker 3: President Steve Adams, who sends us out to you know,
- 30:52Speaker 3: to says, okay, today we're gonna cover this. We're gonna
- 30:54Speaker 3: we're all gonna talk about that. And and I will say,
- 30:56Speaker 3: you mentioned Amelia Nicely, who I think is a is
- 30:59Speaker 3: a brilliant reporter. She got called out yesterday and you
- 31:03Speaker 3: probably know the exact tweet, and I don't have it
- 31:05Speaker 3: in front of me by somebody, and I thought it
- 31:07Speaker 3: was just total crap.
- 31:08Speaker 10: What the do.
- 31:10Speaker 3: You you know what? You know what I'm referring to?
- 31:11Speaker 9: I do get well, I don't obviously have it in
- 31:14Speaker 9: front of me, and I will tell you I've been
- 31:16Speaker 9: privy to this information for for some time. Basically dhr
- 31:21Speaker 9: or I think it was the OHS communications person there
- 31:25Speaker 9: had written a letter to Amelia and her editors I
- 31:29Speaker 9: believe that basically called her out, said she was unfair,
- 31:33Speaker 9: she was.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Seeking Here's the quote Amelia said. When I contacted the
- 31:38Speaker 3: director of communications, try to smooth things over, I was
- 31:40Speaker 3: told Amelia's reporting only seeks to harm and misinformed West Virginia.
- 31:44Speaker 3: That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard
- 31:47Speaker 3: in my entire life. And that person should be ashamed
- 31:48Speaker 3: of themselves, absolutely.
- 31:51Speaker 9: And this is all because of an editorial that the
- 31:54Speaker 9: West Virginia Watch editor in chief Leeann Ray had put
- 31:57Speaker 9: out yesterday talking about issues with DAHS, which I have
- 32:01Speaker 9: had too, particularly in recent weeks over this childcare subsidy issue,
- 32:06Speaker 9: which uh I got to tell you, We're all at
- 32:09Speaker 9: the point of zero trust, not necessarily with Governor Justice
- 32:13Speaker 9: himself per se, but certainly with administration officials and particularly
- 32:17Speaker 9: communications officials in the administration. Between what has happened with Brad.
- 32:21Speaker 9: I'm glad Brad got back onto briefing last week.
- 32:24Speaker 5: He's back.
- 32:24Speaker 10: He's back tomorrow by mister, We're glad he's back.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Jeff, can you get me some music with the word
- 32:31Speaker 3: vile in it for when Brad's on the show tomorrow.
- 32:34Speaker 10: Work on that for Yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 9: It's it's something we've all dealt with one issue after

- 32:45Speaker 9: had a better relationship with Jordan Dammer and it used

- 32:51Speaker 9: it's changed and where it's coming from, but we the

- 36:50Speaker 14: Thank you, thanks for having me.
- 36:52Speaker 3: You know, doctor, no one likes to hear the words
- 36:54Speaker 3: consolidations or closures. But the Knagh County Board meeting last night,
- 36:58Speaker 3: Aaron Parker's got a story posted out of wv metronews
- 37:01Speaker 3: dot com and as the story pointed out, the conversations
- 37:04Speaker 3: have started. Let me recap and then we'll get your comments.
- 37:07Speaker 3: We could be looking at two middle school consolidations and
- 37:10Speaker 3: the merging of four elementary schools in Kanawa County Eastern
- 37:14Speaker 3: Kanaw into one larger news school. And as for the
- 37:17Speaker 3: middle schools, we're talking about East Bank and DuPont middle
- 37:20Speaker 3: schools possibly consolidating, as well as the middle schools of
- 37:23Speaker 3: McKinley and Hayes in Saint Albans. And then back to
- 37:26Speaker 3: the elementary schools, the possibility of a consolidation of mary Ingles, Malden,
- 37:30Speaker 3: Middland Trail and Bell into one large school. That's a
- 37:34Speaker 3: large that's a lot of schools, Doctor Williams, it is.
- 37:37Speaker 14: And again this is this is something that no one,
- 37:40Speaker 14: the board and myself included, ever want to talk about.
- 37:43Speaker 14: But you know, when we've lost close to five thousand
- 37:46Speaker 14: students in the last ten years, and we continue to
- 37:49Speaker 14: lose students, we can no longer continue to operate the
- 37:53Speaker 14: same number of facilities. We would be able to move
- 37:57Speaker 14: East Bank into DuPont with no call to the county,
- 38:01Speaker 14: and the same with McKinley into Hayes. For the elementary section,
- 38:06Speaker 14: I will present a project to the School Building Authority,
- 38:09Speaker 14: the SBA, and if they approved the project, then we
- 38:15Speaker 14: would be able to build a new school, which wouldn't
- 38:18Speaker 14: open until sometime in twenty eight in that area, probably
- 38:22Speaker 14: the fall of twenty eight. But I think it would
- 38:25Speaker 14: be a great opportunity to have the elementary students in
- 38:29Speaker 14: the East End begin because they all will feed in
- 38:32Speaker 14: the riverside, so they begin to make lifelong friends and
- 38:36Speaker 14: things of that nature. The two middle school consolidations, you know,
- 38:42Speaker 14: those could happen next year. And again it's not something
- 38:46Speaker 14: that we like doing. But when I look at the
- 38:48Speaker 14: bottom line, we have to have a balanced budget. And
- 38:51Speaker 14: you know, people say, well, money's more important than kids. No,
- 38:54Speaker 14: actually it's not. But we have to have money in
- 38:57Speaker 14: order to run the programming and things that we have
- 39:00Speaker 14: for all of our students, so I do have to
- 39:03Speaker 14: look at the bottom line.
- 39:04Speaker 3: And doctor Williams, it is important to note that these
- 39:06Speaker 3: are only discussions. At this point. You talked about the
- 39:09Speaker 3: number of students that we had lost and sometimes we
- 39:12Speaker 3: talk and actually with my other guest, Steven Allen Adams
- 39:15Speaker 3: of Ogden Newspapers, we were talking about population loss. It's
- 39:18Speaker 3: not always about just population loss. I mean, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 3: public schools are losing numbers, and not everybody's moving out
- 39:25Speaker 3: of state. There are other are other ways to educate
- 39:27Speaker 3: kids now. People are looking at charter schools, or they're
- 39:29Speaker 3: looking at homeschooling. There's a lot of factors at play here, sir,
- 39:33Speaker 3: there are.
- 39:34Speaker 14: And one thing that's interesting sad for our county is
- 39:39Speaker 14: that our birth rate and death rate are almost inverted now.
- 39:42Speaker 14: In other words, we're almost to the point where we
- 39:45Speaker 14: have more people dying than babies being born. So you
- 39:48Speaker 14: know that's not good either, that for the future. That
- 39:53Speaker 14: that doesn't make things look good for the future either.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with doctor Tom Williams, superintendent of Kanawa
- 39:59Speaker 3: County's Schools, And this was all brought out at the
- 40:01Speaker 3: meeting that was held last night. There are going to
- 40:03Speaker 3: be public hearings planned to discuss this.
- 40:06Speaker 14: Is that right, that's correct. The board will we will
- 40:09Speaker 14: have hearings beginning in October. Uh, and we encourage folks, uh,
- 40:15Speaker 14: anyone that's interested actually, but especially those in the schools
- 40:19Speaker 14: that will be affected, to attend those public hearings and
- 40:23Speaker 14: give the board there and myself their ideas and thoughts,
- 40:27Speaker 14: and then the board will make a decision and uh
- 40:30Speaker 14: then we'll go from there.
- 40:32Speaker 3: And you've been doing this for a while, doctor Williams.
- 40:34Speaker 9: Uh.
- 40:34Speaker 3: These conversations are never ever easy. And I'm sure that
- 40:38Speaker 3: most people are reasonable people. They understand why these things
- 40:41Speaker 3: are being looked at. But when you talk about taking
- 40:44Speaker 3: you know, schools are the heartbeat of local communities, especially
- 40:48Speaker 3: in smaller communities like the eastern Kanaan County and the
- 40:50Speaker 3: ones that you mentioned. This is where these schools, that's
- 40:53Speaker 3: where everything happens. That's where the boy Scouts meet, that's
- 40:55Speaker 3: where the you know, the uh water meetings are held.
- 40:58Speaker 3: That's the kind of the gathering place. And it's it's sad,
- 41:02Speaker 3: but it is a sad reality, sir.
- 41:04Speaker 14: That You're exactly right, and everyone likes their small school.
- 41:09Speaker 14: But the way we're funded. We're funded based on a
- 41:13Speaker 14: pertuble basis. We've lost approximately five thousand kids the last
- 41:18Speaker 14: ten years. That's five hundred faculty positions and about twenty
- 41:22Speaker 14: nine to thirty million dollars, and so you know, we
- 41:25Speaker 14: can't continue to operate. I love the small schools. I
- 41:30Speaker 14: think they're wonderful, but we're just not able to continue
- 41:33Speaker 14: to operate like that any longer.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Doctor Tom Williams, I know you're busy guy. I appreciate
- 41:37Speaker 3: you taking time at your schedule to be here this morning.
- 41:39Speaker 3: What message as we close would you want to say
- 41:42Speaker 3: to the parents and grandparents are the faculty, What message
- 41:45Speaker 3: do you want to put out there this morning? Sir?
- 41:47Speaker 14: I think the message would be, I'm sorry that we
- 41:50Speaker 14: have to go down this road. We understand your emotions
- 41:54Speaker 14: and your feelings. You know, one of the schools that's
- 41:57Speaker 14: been consolidated, my wife and two kids went to, and
- 42:00Speaker 14: so I'm hearing it at home as well. But you know,
- 42:03Speaker 14: it's all I can say is we're sorry we have
- 42:06Speaker 14: to go down this road, but it's something that we
- 42:08Speaker 14: have to do well.
- 42:09Speaker 3: These are discussions, as you said, at this point, but
- 42:11Speaker 3: it certainly looks like it is going to be a reality,
- 42:13Speaker 3: and there are public hearings planned. I urge people to
- 42:15Speaker 3: go check out Aaron Parker's story posted this morning at
- 42:18Speaker 3: wv Metro news dot com. Doctor Williams, You're always welcome
- 42:21Speaker 3: on the show. We'll have you on again maybe as
- 42:22Speaker 3: we get closer at the time for those public hearings.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here.
- 42:25Speaker 14: I appreciate you. Thank you so much.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Thank you, doctor Tom Williams, superintendent of public schools here
- 42:31Speaker 3: in Kenawa County. Yeah, you know, I come from an
- 42:34Speaker 3: area that school consolidation was a major, major deal back
- 42:38Speaker 3: in the nineteen seventies and eighties when I was in school,
- 42:41Speaker 3: and and it's nobody likes to see that community school
- 42:44Speaker 3: go away. And it's just we can do an entire
- 42:49Speaker 3: week's worth of shows on population loss and again as wet,
- 42:54Speaker 3: it's kind of interesting that I had doctor Stephen doctor
- 42:56Speaker 3: call it doctor Stephen Adams twice. Doctor he's not a
- 42:59Speaker 3: doctor good, but he's not a doctor Steven Adams on.
- 43:02Speaker 3: I had Stephen's scheduled a couple of days ago, and
- 43:04Speaker 3: then this news broke for the meeting last night, and
- 43:06Speaker 3: I'm going to give a big shout out to Brianna
- 43:08Speaker 3: Warner over at the Superintendent's in the office because I
- 43:11Speaker 3: was able to get with her earlier this morning to
- 43:13Speaker 3: get doctor Williams scheduled. It is interesting though that we
- 43:15Speaker 3: had those two back to back and a lot of
- 43:17Speaker 3: the same things came out in both of our talks,
- 43:20Speaker 3: both of our interviews. Is that it's not just about
- 43:24Speaker 3: population loss. It's about we are people are dying at
- 43:28Speaker 3: a faster rate than babies are being born in West Virginia.
- 43:32Speaker 3: And again, as I said, this is not just and
- 43:35Speaker 3: doctor Williams agreed with me, this is not just about
- 43:40Speaker 3: population loss in West Virginia. Yeah, we've lost we've lost
- 43:44Speaker 3: a lot. Yeah, absolutely, But parents now have more choices
- 43:48Speaker 3: when it comes to their kids education and more and
- 43:51Speaker 3: more people, it seems, and it's this is not exclusive
- 43:55Speaker 3: to Kanawaccounty. This goes on in other areas as well.
- 43:58Speaker 3: More and more people, more and more parents, are grand parents,
- 44:00Speaker 3: are choosing to look at alternate ways of education for
- 44:05Speaker 3: their kids. I mean, it's it is what it is,
- 44:08Speaker 3: whether it's charter schools, whether it's private schools, whether it's homeschool.
- 44:11Speaker 3: COVID added to that, So it's it's it's an unfortunate situation.
- 44:17Speaker 3: It really is. I would urge you though, that if
- 44:19Speaker 3: you're one of the people that is concerned about this,
- 44:23Speaker 3: that you attend these public mere meetings. I don't know
- 44:25Speaker 3: what good it's going to do, but at least you
- 44:27Speaker 3: can have your voice heard. And again we'll be talking
- 44:29Speaker 3: about it, as doctor Williams said, they'll be in October.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Go check out Aaron's story at wv Metronews dot com.
- 44:35Speaker 3: He's got a lot of information in it there as well.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Attend the public meetings, let people know what you think,

- 48:22Speaker 3: children have was. The social and educational policies pursued by
- 48:25Speaker 3: the current legislature did not appeal to them, and it
- 48:27Speaker 3: doesn't to a lot of younger people. Just another of
- 48:30Speaker 3: the same type of people we have now. According to
- 48:33Speaker 3: a texture Texas, Dave the reason why folks don't care
- 48:35Speaker 3: about Jim Justice except the Actually I read that earlier.
- 48:38Speaker 3: This was another text from the same person. I apologize.
- 48:40Speaker 3: It says, Dave, your show is fair, but Hoppy's gone
- 48:43Speaker 3: off the deep end with Jim Justice and Trump. I
- 48:45Speaker 3: listened here from Florida and it's striking about Hoppy. It's
- 48:48Speaker 3: a text speaking of mister Kurchiable. He's covered up with
- 48:52Speaker 3: talk Line at ten oh six from the and Cove
- 48:54Speaker 3: Insurance Studios and the Dale Miller Building to Morgantown. Senator
- 48:56Speaker 3: Joe Manchin is leading off this morning. Also Steven Alan Adams,
- 49:00Speaker 3: who was on this show a little bit earlier. He
- 49:01Speaker 3: will be on when a entirely different group of topics
- 49:04Speaker 3: as he talks with Hopey. Coming up next hour. There
- 49:07Speaker 3: was a big and long city council we need in
- 49:10Speaker 3: Morgantown last night. I mentioned this a little bit on
- 49:12Speaker 3: the show yesterday. There's been quite the debate in Morgantown
- 49:15Speaker 3: about the homeless and specifically a proposed anti camping band.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Well that ban passed last night in Morgantown, and one
- 49:24Speaker 3: of the members of the city Council at Morgantown will
- 49:27Speaker 3: join Hoppy to talk about that. That's the lead story
- 49:30Speaker 3: this morning at wv Metronews dot com. And I point
- 49:32Speaker 3: that out. The reason I have mentioned it so many
- 49:34Speaker 3: times on this show is because there's a lot of
- 49:36Speaker 3: mirrors between what goes on in some of our areas
- 49:38Speaker 3: here Charleston and other cities as well. But again, Hobby
- 49:41Speaker 3: is going to get into that. Rex Repass has been
- 49:44Speaker 3: on Hoppy a lot here lately with results of the
- 49:45Speaker 3: Metro News West Virginia poll and he's got some new
- 49:48Speaker 3: polling numbers out will go over those with Hoppy. Also,
- 49:51Speaker 3: Ryan Schmels the Fox News Radios on the show today
- 49:53Speaker 3: and check this out. The Mountaineer soccer team is now
- 49:57Speaker 3: the top ranked team in the entire nation, first time
- 50:01Speaker 3: that's ever happened. WU soccer coach Dan Stratford will be
- 50:04Speaker 3: on the show and more Hobby coming up with talk

- 50:27Speaker 3: except cut taxes, which has not attracted all those fortune
- 50:30Speaker 3: five hundred companies they claimed they would. No one wants
- 50:34Speaker 3: to move here. Just look at Kennawk County schools losing
- 50:36Speaker 3: five thousand to ten thousand students. Families need better education

- 50:57Speaker 3: of Day's Valley visit projected Protected by Jude. So I
- 51:01Speaker 3: will mention this. I had talked about this a little
- 51:03Speaker 3: bit yefter. I did take a little bit of time
- 51:05Speaker 3: off last week, a week and a day actually, because
- 51:07Speaker 3: of you know, the Labor Day holiday as well. I
- 51:09Speaker 3: was actually back in town before then, though I was
- 51:11Speaker 3: spending records, because that's what I will always call it,
- 51:14Speaker 3: even though there's no records anywhere in sight on the mountain,
- 51:17Speaker 3: on our classic rock station, but on Sunday. But I
- 51:20Speaker 3: will say this, I know you wanted to see my
- 51:22Speaker 3: vacation slides. There there are none. We'll take it. I
- 51:26Speaker 3: will say this. My wife and I took a trip
- 51:27Speaker 3: down to North Myrtle Beach, and if you're a longtime
- 51:30Speaker 3: listener of the show, you know the story. I felt
- 51:32Speaker 3: I should turn in my Southern West Virginia card because
- 51:34Speaker 3: up until twenty twenty two. I said, I had never
- 51:37Speaker 3: been to Myrtle Beach, and this time it was North Myrtle,
- 51:41Speaker 3: and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I really really liked it.
- 51:45Speaker 3: I don't come from a family of vacationers. We went
- 51:47Speaker 3: on a few as a kid. But one story I
- 51:50Speaker 3: always teld about my dad, and I may have told
- 51:52Speaker 3: this on the story before. My dad didn't even attend
- 51:55Speaker 3: my high school graduation. He was a purchasing agent at
- 51:58Speaker 3: a coal company and on the day of my high
- 52:00Speaker 3: school graduation a that he was going to leave the
- 52:04Speaker 3: mines for my graduation, so he skipped it. I looked
- 52:07Speaker 3: up in the stands. No. Dad talked to him later,
- 52:10Speaker 3: and I see what happened to that, Because I left
- 52:11Speaker 3: graduation and went directly to work on the air in radio.
- 52:14Speaker 3: He said, sorry, son had a part down to mind.
- 52:17Speaker 3: So well, there you go. So I come by it honestly,
- 52:19Speaker 3: I guess, not liking to take off very much. But
