- 0:57Speaker 2: Heather MacDonald, Juicy Scoop.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop. Oh my God. Let's
- 1:07Speaker 1: just get into it. It's the slap heard around the world,
- 1:10Speaker 1: seen around the world, talked about around the world. Here
- 1:13Speaker 1: we go. So first let me just tell you about
- 1:16Speaker 1: where I was when I first heard about it. So
- 1:19Speaker 1: I was doing my live Juicy Scoop, which when I
- 1:24Speaker 1: realized that we booked this on Oscar Sunday, um, Maybe
- 1:28Speaker 1: it was a few years ago. I would have been like, oh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: my God. You know, I did not care to watch
- 1:33Speaker 1: the Oscars. My Juicy Scoopers didn't care. I'm pretty sure
- 1:36Speaker 1: the show was sold out. Of course, you can watch
- 1:39Speaker 1: it tomorrow. I'll give those details later. But so I
- 1:44Speaker 1: didn't know when I was doing something and then I
- 1:46Speaker 1: had to go run and do a little costume change.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And that's when I heard, oh, my God, Will Smith
- 1:51Speaker 1: just hit Chris Rock. And I immediately thought, it's fake.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It's staged. They're friends. Oh, God. They're trying to start
- 1:59Speaker 1: some buzz or something. We continued the show. And then
- 2:02Speaker 1: at the very end of the show, we got a
- 2:06Speaker 1: question about it. We started to talk about it and
- 2:08Speaker 1: inform the audience of what had happened. And so then
- 2:12Speaker 1: I watched it and read everything. And just to remind
- 2:17Speaker 1: you guys, Chris Rock was not the host of the show.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The host of the show was... were Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and Regina Hall. And I have not had a chance
- 2:28Speaker 1: to watch their monologue. I assume they were funny. They're
- 2:31Speaker 1: funny women. The first time for three women to host it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And so that was exciting. However, nobody's just in true
- 2:41Speaker 1: comedy form. No one's talking about the female comedians. They're
- 2:44Speaker 1: only talking about the male comedian, Chris Rock, after a
- 2:46Speaker 1: big show. So Chris Rock gets up there to I
- 2:51Speaker 1: think he was presenting about a documentary category and he
- 2:56Speaker 1: goes in to make some jokes. And Jada Pinkett Smith
- 3:00Speaker 1: is there and her head is shaved. And so he goes, hey,
- 3:05Speaker 1: looking forward to G.I. Jane 2, Jada. And Will laughs.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Jada's like rolling her eyes like, heard that before, whatever.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And then like right away, at least the way the
- 3:18Speaker 1: video shows, right away, Will is on stage, walking towards him,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and he's like, oh, come on, King Richard, which is
- 3:28Speaker 1: the part that he's been nominated for and won the
- 3:30Speaker 1: Oscar last night for. And he, what, we've like slow-mo'd it.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It sounds like a punch, but it's more like, maybe
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's a punch turned into a slap. I don't know,
- 3:42Speaker 1: because the hand leaving the face is flat. It's a smack,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but he got hurt. And Chris Rock is like, whoa,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, oh, oh my God. You know, and, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: the audience is laughing, you know, just, just like they
- 3:58Speaker 1: laughed when I passed out on stage. And, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 1: to that note, people think, was this fake?
- 4:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I don't think it's fake for the, for the same
- 4:08Speaker 1: reason that people thought my thing was fake when I
- 4:10Speaker 1: fainted on stage. Um, There's no way Chris Rock would
- 4:15Speaker 1: do it on that joke because it wasn't a great joke.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So if you're going to do something that you think
- 4:19Speaker 1: is going to go viral, you would make sure that
- 4:21Speaker 1: it was like that the hit happened after the funniest
- 4:24Speaker 1: joke that you've ever said. And G.I. Jane joke about
- 4:29Speaker 1: a woman with a shaved head is pretty bad. It's
- 4:31Speaker 1: a movie that was 30 years ago. It just was
- 4:34Speaker 1: a very low hanging fruit joke. And just like when
- 4:37Speaker 1: I passed out, I was joking, saying like, oh, don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: mean to brag, still got my period. making fun of
- 4:43Speaker 1: the fact that like, that is a hacky thing that women,
- 4:46Speaker 1: women comedians have been criticized for is talking about their period.
- 4:49Speaker 1: But that's the thing that now people associate with me
- 4:52Speaker 1: and they're like, she's not that funny. So there's, so
- 4:55Speaker 1: I definitely do not think this was fake. And then,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and then Will Smith sits back down. The audience is laughing,
- 5:02Speaker 1: thinking it's fake or staged or whatever. And, and maybe
- 5:06Speaker 1: it hopefully wasn't a real hit, but it was, as
- 5:08Speaker 1: we got, like I said, you should get close to
- 5:11Speaker 1: see it. Then Will screams out, keep my wife's name
- 5:17Speaker 1: out of your fucking mouth, and then screams it again
- 5:19Speaker 1: even louder. And honestly, the hit was really terrifying, and
- 5:26Speaker 1: I think it's really triggering for a lot of people
- 5:28Speaker 1: to have seen that. Oscars are something you watch with
- 5:32Speaker 1: your kids and your grandma. It's way worse than when
- 5:36Speaker 1: Janet Jackson's Little Nip came out on the Sunday show.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Super Bowl this is way way worse and and but
- 5:44Speaker 1: like the mean screaming like from a man to me
- 5:48Speaker 1: is like was more almost more scary because anyway so
- 5:54Speaker 1: the night continues and he wins which I've got the
- 5:59Speaker 1: I have an episode I know I said it from
- 6:02Speaker 1: the moment I heard that the movie was being made
- 6:05Speaker 1: I said Will Smith will be nominated and win an
- 6:07Speaker 1: Oscar for it I knew it he is a great
- 6:09Speaker 1: actor and And, um, so he gets up there and
- 6:12Speaker 1: he's just bawling, crying and, you know, what, what was
- 6:18Speaker 1: this all about? I mean, was it, is he like
- 6:21Speaker 1: going through something mentally or? Is he just so privileged
- 6:25Speaker 1: that something pissed him off and he decided to react
- 6:28Speaker 1: at it? Because, I mean, besides hitting Chris Rock, which,
- 6:32Speaker 1: by the way, he apologizes in his speech to the Academy,
- 6:36Speaker 1: to the fellow nominees, to everybody in the room, never
- 6:39Speaker 1: apologizes to Chris Rock. But also, you know, this is
- 6:43Speaker 1: why when your kids are graduating from high school, they
- 6:46Speaker 1: send out that thing and they say, please don't, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 1: do fireworks and when they name your, when we say
- 6:54Speaker 1: your kid's name, because the next kid, it really affects
- 6:58Speaker 1: their moment. And this is exactly what he did. This
- 7:02Speaker 1: is way worse than Kanye taking Taylor Swift's Academy Award,
- 7:07Speaker 1: not Academy Award, but her VMAs. That was shitty for
- 7:11Speaker 1: Taylor Swift, but this really put a damper on everybody
- 7:14Speaker 1: else that won. Like nobody else is talking about anybody
- 7:17Speaker 1: else's speeches or who won or any other surprising moments.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And so like, that's very rude that you just made
- 7:27Speaker 1: the whole Oscars about yourself. And the fact that it
- 7:30Speaker 1: would seem like it was such a snap decision makes
- 7:32Speaker 1: me think maybe there is something mentally going on. But
- 7:37Speaker 1: one thing that I posed the question of is like,
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know, the way everyone reacted to it, the fact
- 7:43Speaker 1: that Chris Rock didn't press charges because the police did
- 7:46Speaker 1: do a, like a little incident report, but then they said,
- 7:51Speaker 1: There was an incident that happened here, like people got
- 7:53Speaker 1: it from the LAPD, but Chris Rock decided not to
- 7:57Speaker 1: press charges, which we knew he wouldn't. But, you know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: if it was, I think if it was two straight
- 8:04Speaker 1: men like they are, you know, and of any, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 1: type of thing, I think also them being at the
- 8:12Speaker 1: same level of in the industry, they were both powerful.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I think people are just like, okay, you know, they
- 8:19Speaker 1: were somewhat equal. Now, Will Smith is much bigger than
- 8:23Speaker 1: Chris Rock, but still, like, what if the height was
- 8:25Speaker 1: really different? What if one was gay and one was straight?
- 8:28Speaker 1: What if it was two women doing it? How it
- 8:30Speaker 1: would be perceived if two women hit each other? I
- 8:33Speaker 1: think it's just interesting that, you know, that's why I
- 8:37Speaker 1: think people originally thought it was a joke because they
- 8:39Speaker 1: were like, oh, they must know each other. They, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: run in the same circles. Now, I know that Will
- 8:46Speaker 1: Smith is like, I hope I get invited back to
- 8:48Speaker 1: the Academy. He said that, um, I hope I get
- 8:51Speaker 1: to do this again. You know, I know that he's
- 8:54Speaker 1: a member of some country clubs and, you know, sometimes
- 8:57Speaker 1: people get kicked out of country clubs when they get
- 8:59Speaker 1: in trouble for like a white collar crime or something
- 9:03Speaker 1: like this, like a domestic violence charge or, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: there's like a moral code thing. So I'm just curious,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, will anybody do anything about it or is
- 9:13Speaker 1: it just forgiven because he's crying and he won the
- 9:15Speaker 1: Oscars and he apologized and that's it? But the violence
- 9:20Speaker 1: is really... shocking. And now let's get into the comedy. Okay. So,
- 9:25Speaker 1: you know, here I am, I I'm on a stage.
- 9:28Speaker 1: It's a very vulnerable place to be when you're on
- 9:30Speaker 1: the stage. Sometimes you can faint and fall and there's
- 9:32Speaker 1: no furniture. Sometimes, you know, sometimes people do charge the stage, um,
- 9:38Speaker 1: while you're on there and it's terrifying. And, um, it's,
- 9:41Speaker 1: that has never happened to me. I've had people yell
- 9:43Speaker 1: out at stuff. I'm going to talk later in the
- 9:45Speaker 1: show with, um, Jessica Curzon, who's a hilarious comic, we
- 9:49Speaker 1: talked a little bit about this. We recorded it last week.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You never know who's in your audience. My sister was saying,
- 9:57Speaker 1: where was security? I'm like, this isn't a regular comedy
- 10:01Speaker 1: club where you might have security nearby because there's wackos.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It's a room full of the most elite, rich people.
- 10:08Speaker 1: You can't just buy a ticket to the Oscars and
- 10:12Speaker 1: be a weirdo and be up front. Everybody up front was,
- 10:15Speaker 1: I don't think they were worried about those people getting
- 10:17Speaker 1: up and attacking someone. Now, Yeah, maybe there will be
- 10:21Speaker 1: like some plainclothes men in tuxedos carrying guns. Maybe they
- 10:25Speaker 1: were there, but they may have thought, again, this must
- 10:29Speaker 1: be part of the act. It's Chris Rock. It's Will Smith.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You know, they must know each other. This must be
- 10:33Speaker 1: a fun thing. The history behind it is they had
- 10:36Speaker 1: beef because I guess many years ago, Jada and Will
- 10:41Speaker 1: banned the, or maybe it was just Jada, but they
- 10:44Speaker 1: banned going to the Oscars because they were doing the
- 10:48Speaker 1: hashtag OscarsSoWhite. So they didn't go. And that year, Chris
- 10:51Speaker 1: Rock was the host. And he made fun of them.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And he said something like, you know, that's like not
- 10:59Speaker 1: going to a party you weren't invited to, Jada. Like
- 11:01Speaker 1: making something so funny. So I guess there wasn't a
- 11:04Speaker 1: lot of love between them to begin with. But it's
- 11:07Speaker 1: completely wrong. And, you know, I'm disgusted by the whole thing.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And I feel terrible for Chris Rock. But, you know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you got to make Lemonade out of lemons. And he's
- 11:19Speaker 1: got a big tour coming up. I saw his sign
- 11:21Speaker 1: at the Fantasy Springs. I talked to Chris Rock when
- 11:26Speaker 1: he was at Craig's, when I stayed at his table
- 11:29Speaker 1: too long. He was still very nice. And he's a
- 11:32Speaker 1: really nice guy. He's a hilarious comic. And, you know,
- 11:35Speaker 1: if his shows weren't sold out before, they're going to be,
- 11:38Speaker 1: they're probably sold out now because people are going to
- 11:40Speaker 1: really want to hear from him about this. And I'm
- 11:44Speaker 1: sure he's going to start out the show like that.
- 11:45Speaker 1: If not, he's a juicy scooper. He's taking his notes
- 11:48Speaker 1: right now. But yeah, it's just really crazy. Now, there
- 11:56Speaker 1: was an interesting tweet that I saw. Do I have
- 11:59Speaker 1: the tweet in here? Okay. That there is a course,
- 12:05Speaker 1: according to the Sky's tweet, That there is a course
- 12:09Speaker 1: in Scientology that goes with like when someone is, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: disrespecting you or something that you're supposed to stand up
- 12:18Speaker 1: or present. Like, I don't, there's something about it. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: don't know if that's right. Will and Jada have definitely
- 12:26Speaker 1: dabbled in Scientology. They started their own school that they
- 12:29Speaker 1: said wasn't a Scientology school, but the materials were from L.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Ron Hubbard. The school cost them a million dollars. It
- 12:35Speaker 1: never went anywhere.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It's not around.
- 12:36Speaker 1: It was called the Village School. She seemed to appear
- 12:41Speaker 1: to be more in it than he. Other people are like,
- 12:43Speaker 1: this doesn't have to do with Scientology.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Just interesting things that people are bringing up. So, Then, okay,
- 12:53Speaker 1: let's go into some fashions, and I might end up
- 12:55Speaker 1: on Will Smith again. So some of the things in
- 12:58Speaker 1: the fashions, which if you're watching this on YouTube, I've
- 13:01Speaker 1: got the photos, but.
- 13:04Speaker 2: What's her name?
- 13:04Speaker 1: Kristen Stewart wore like really short shorts and just bare legs,
- 13:11Speaker 1: and it's like a cute outfit if you're just going
- 13:14Speaker 1: to go to dinner on like a summer night with
- 13:18Speaker 1: some girls at a club. So she had just like
- 13:20Speaker 1: a white blouse down to the navel, little satin jacket,
- 13:23Speaker 1: satin shorts. So, you know, I guess sometimes, you know what,
- 13:27Speaker 1: why not? Like if she was just wearing a normal dress,
- 13:30Speaker 1: we wouldn't be talking about it. So you either are
- 13:33Speaker 1: going to hit the comedian because you didn't like their
- 13:36Speaker 1: joke or you're going to wear this, you know, or
- 13:40Speaker 1: wear something that gets talked about. The other thing is,
- 13:42Speaker 1: The joke, I did not know. People are like, it
- 13:45Speaker 1: was a cruel joke about the G.I. Jane and Jada
- 13:49Speaker 1: being bald because she has alopecia and she's talked a
- 13:52Speaker 1: lot about it. And she's very sad that, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: she was at the point where she was losing so
- 13:57Speaker 1: much hair, she decided to shave her head. There is
- 14:00Speaker 1: no way Chris Rock knew about that. And also, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: don't think you should be expected to know about it.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I didn't know about it. I just thought she was
- 14:07Speaker 1: rocking a bald head. She's drop-dead gorgeous. I've seen a
- 14:10Speaker 1: lot of women lately of all different ethnicities rocking a
- 14:15Speaker 1: bald head. And they're not sick. It wasn't for a
- 14:21Speaker 1: medical reason. They're just like, oh, this is so freeing.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'm going to shave my head. So I think he
- 14:26Speaker 1: might have been like, hey, way to rock that bald head.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I hope you're doing G.I. Jane too, you know. Also,
- 14:33Speaker 1: he did a whole movie or documentary, Chris Rock, about
- 14:37Speaker 1: black women's hair and all the struggles and everything it
- 14:41Speaker 1: means throughout history. So that's kind of interesting, too, that
- 14:44Speaker 1: he made that joke. But who's this girl? Billie Eilish.
- 14:48Speaker 1: She's just wearing like just an enormous black ruffle dress.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I love that she and her brother won. I love
- 14:57Speaker 1: that as siblings they work together. I just think that's
- 14:59Speaker 1: the cutest. Speaking of a lot of ruffles, Jada is
- 15:03Speaker 1: here and she wore like a high necked green, you know, dress,
- 15:10Speaker 1: enormous dress on such a tiny person. I always think
- 15:13Speaker 1: tiny people should not wear such huge things where they
- 15:16Speaker 1: can just be swallowed up in. She's a great body
- 15:19Speaker 1: and she's petite. This is not my favorite Jada look,
- 15:22Speaker 1: but certainly the most memorable because no one will ever
- 15:25Speaker 1: forget that this was the Oscars that she wore this dress.
- 15:29Speaker 1: She looked really far away from Will in that. They
- 15:33Speaker 1: were sitting in separate booths. They were sitting in separate booths,
- 15:37Speaker 1: which is really weird. And her dress, maybe because her
- 15:41Speaker 1: dress was so big, she needed her own booth. And
- 15:44Speaker 1: the other thing I just thought of is when he goes,
- 15:46Speaker 1: keep my wife's name out of your effing mouth. Well,
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's interesting that he hits Chris Rock for a dumb
- 15:53Speaker 1: joke when you know you're going to get jokes that
- 15:56Speaker 1: the Oscars made about you, especially if you're nominated. But
- 15:59Speaker 1: when she was in her entanglement with a boy that
- 16:03Speaker 1: was like 20 years younger than she, it was her
- 16:06Speaker 1: stepson's friend. That guy was heartbroken. That's why he came
- 16:09Speaker 1: out with it. He was like pussy whipped and she
- 16:11Speaker 1: dumped him. And then he finally told the story. He
- 16:13Speaker 1: didn't seem to be bothered by, you know, what else
- 16:18Speaker 1: might have been in that guy's mouth of his wife's.
- 16:21Speaker 1: He didn't seem to care about that. But yeah, Amy
- 16:24Speaker 1: Schumer made fun of their open marriage. I heard they
- 16:27Speaker 1: didn't really care. Um, so here we are with Amy Schumer.
- 16:31Speaker 1: She's in Navy and then Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes,
- 16:35Speaker 1: both were white. I wonder if like they talked to
- 16:37Speaker 1: each other. I don't think they did not, but don't
- 16:42Speaker 1: you think you would? Like if I was doing a
- 16:45Speaker 1: show where I'm going to be on stage with a
- 16:46Speaker 1: couple other comedians, I'd be like, what are you wearing?
- 16:50Speaker 1: You know, what do you think you'll be wearing? What color? Um, well, what, well,
- 16:56Speaker 1: Wanda's is like a cute pantsuit. And then hers, Regina's
- 17:00Speaker 1: is white, but like a big slit up, but slit
- 17:03Speaker 1: up the leg, but it's still a dress. So anyway,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I heard they're funny, but no one's talking about it.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Tracee Ellis Ross wore this. This is like becoming a
- 17:14Speaker 1: really common new thing. There's under boob, there's show your fupa,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and then there's this top that's like, like The cleavage
- 17:25Speaker 1: goes down past your boobs and barely covers your areola.
- 17:31Speaker 1: It looks like two eyes. It just looks like two
- 17:33Speaker 1: eyes coming at you. It's just not my favorite look.
- 17:39Speaker 1: This girl is the one who won Best Supporting for
- 17:42Speaker 1: West Side Story. She wore the same type of top,
- 17:45Speaker 1: but her outfit was pretty cool. It was red pants,
- 17:47Speaker 1: and then she had a weird little cape thing, but
- 17:51Speaker 1: around her wrist that then made it look like a dress,
- 17:54Speaker 1: but it was pants and like a crop top. And
- 17:56Speaker 1: it was this little top and they both have the
- 17:58Speaker 1: same diamond necklace type of thing. And then this is,
- 18:05Speaker 1: this is Venus, right? This Venus, she had a top
- 18:09Speaker 1: that was like, wow. Like, and in fact, her areola
- 18:13Speaker 1: did come out as she was sitting down. She probably
- 18:16Speaker 1: didn't think just like the two girls hosting Regina and Wanda,
- 18:20Speaker 1: they didn't think to call each other. She didn't think,
- 18:23Speaker 1: to sit down in a chair and go, how can
- 18:25Speaker 1: I rock this look? Like she probably goes, Oh, it
- 18:27Speaker 1: looks great on the red carpet. Then you sit and
- 18:30Speaker 1: it's like, Hey, nipple, we can out everybody. And, and
- 18:35Speaker 1: I don't, her arms crossing it in this photo, but
- 18:37Speaker 1: I don't think she knew her nip was out. So
- 18:40Speaker 1: good for her. Also arriving on the red carpet was
- 18:44Speaker 1: Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. And she just wore like
- 18:49Speaker 1: a black strapless dress and she wore her hair slicked
- 18:52Speaker 1: back and they did their tongue weird kissing thing on
- 18:56Speaker 1: the red carpet.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I guess I'm sure she wasn't like in the first
- 19:00Speaker 1: few rows. I just wonder, I guess if you're, I would,
- 19:03Speaker 1: I would invite the Kardashians. If I was doing Oscars,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I would invite the Kardashians too, just like everybody else
- 19:09Speaker 1: does because they have millions and trillions of hundreds of
- 19:12Speaker 1: billions followers and it might get people to watch the Oscars. So,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I don't think it's really that weird that they were there.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Obviously neither of them are nominated for an Oscar, but
- 19:21Speaker 1: like you should invite some, you know, social influencers. So, um,
- 19:28Speaker 1: let me see. Was there anything else I want to, Oh,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I was going to say about Kanye. Well, Kanye, they,
- 19:32Speaker 1: they said he can't, um, perform at the Grammys because
- 19:35Speaker 1: of his, you know, weird social media behavior yet. Look
- 19:40Speaker 1: what happened here. But if they, had not decided already
- 19:46Speaker 1: to ban Kanye from performing... Today's meeting at the Grammys
- 19:51Speaker 1: would be very weird because they'd be like, oh, my God,
- 19:55Speaker 1: we're scared about Kanye. But now if we tell him
- 19:57Speaker 1: now that he can't do it, it's going to look
- 20:00Speaker 1: really unfair. And a lot of other things I don't
- 20:04Speaker 1: want to say, but it would look really bad if
- 20:06Speaker 1: they all. So it's good that they told him he
- 20:09Speaker 1: couldn't do it before. But in his defense, it's like,
- 20:13Speaker 1: come on. I never hit anyone on stage, you know.
- 20:17Speaker 1: But he didn't hit Taylor, but he took her award.
- 20:20Speaker 1: So he's probably like, come on, I'm not that bad.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I think it's just very weird with Will Smith because
- 20:28Speaker 1: he really is such a beloved person. And before we
- 20:34Speaker 1: knew that they had an open marriage and an entanglement,
- 20:36Speaker 1: he and Jada were like the Hollywood couple. They would
- 20:39Speaker 1: dress similar on red carpets. They had the two little kids.
- 20:43Speaker 1: They just had the And then as the kids got older,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I was like, oh, my God, they're still married. They
- 20:47Speaker 1: have this fabulous marriage. Now, there's always been rumors about
- 20:50Speaker 1: Jada and Will that they were swingers, that they're bi,
- 20:54Speaker 1: all of that. That was always there. And then it
- 20:56Speaker 1: was confirmed a couple years ago with her entanglement. And
- 21:00Speaker 1: then they came out and said, we have an open marriage.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But we're going to stay together forever. We're never getting divorced.
- 21:07Speaker 1: But we– can screw other people. So now you know.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And I have never been a fan of Jada's. I
- 21:14Speaker 1: just think she's very.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Trying to think of the word. I just think she's
- 21:19Speaker 1: just like a know-it-all. And I think she thinks she's
- 21:21Speaker 1: like a higher spirituality than everybody else. And her attitude
- 21:26Speaker 1: is just not my favorite. I'm probably never going to
- 21:28Speaker 1: be invited on the Red Table Talk, which is unfortunate
- 21:31Speaker 1: because a lot of people are going to be catching
- 21:33Speaker 1: it this week. I assume Will will join the Red
- 21:37Speaker 1: Table Talk and have... And that'll be uncomfortable with his mother-in-law,
- 21:41Speaker 1: but maybe she'll be like, you stood up for my
- 21:44Speaker 1: baby's alopecia. You're okay in my book. Oh, Jaden Smith,
- 21:50Speaker 1: he had tweeted something like, that's the way you do it,
- 21:54Speaker 1: which could mean either the speech, his speech being so beautiful,
- 21:59Speaker 1: or was it the slap? I don't know when it came,
- 22:03Speaker 1: when the tweet was delivered. So that would probably be
- 22:05Speaker 1: for the Twitter detectives to figure out. Anyway, wow, wow,
- 22:10Speaker 1: and wow. Well, a lot of people didn't see the
- 22:13Speaker 1: show because they were at my show laughing their ass off.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And now you can too. It will be available 6 p.m.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Pacific time today. That's right. March 29th, Tuesday. You can
- 22:27Speaker 1: watch the Juicy Scoop live. It was professionally filmed. And
- 22:31Speaker 1: you go to momenthouse.com slash Juicy Scoop or you go
- 22:36Speaker 1: to heathermcdonald.net. It That's all you need to remember. You
- 22:39Speaker 1: will find it. You can order it. You can watch it.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And you will have five days to watch it once
- 22:45Speaker 1: you purchase it. And after that, that's it. It's not
- 22:49Speaker 1: going to be put out there. any other place. We
- 22:52Speaker 1: got really edgy. We got, um, did not hold back. Uh,
- 22:58Speaker 1: there was, it was obviously hilarious, but there was also
- 23:01Speaker 1: some juicy stuff coming from some of the guests that
- 23:04Speaker 1: they would not be comfortable doing on our regular show.
- 23:07Speaker 1: So it was a special event and it's about two
- 23:09Speaker 1: hours and, huh? Who's nip slip. Oh, There might be
- 23:19Speaker 1: a nip slip as well. And to everybody who came
- 23:25Speaker 1: to all the shows at Brea this weekend, thank you
- 23:28Speaker 1: so much. It was so fun. I will be back
- 23:30Speaker 1: at Tempe to redeem myself on April 9th at the
- 23:33Speaker 1: Tempe Improv. Again, heathermcdonald.net. All of our new merch is
- 23:38Speaker 1: also at heathermcdonald.net. And there's some really fun, cool things there.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And now for my fabulous, juicy, fun and enlightening conversation
- 23:47Speaker 1: with comedian Jessica Kersan.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Christmas shopping has already started in our house. My daughter
- 23:55Speaker 4: is so organized, already planning Christmas gifts from Macaulay. Hair
- 23:59Speaker 4: care for her aunt and a fab fragrance for her bestie.
- 24:01Speaker 4: But the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I'm
- 24:04Speaker 4: an early bird, buying one present a week from now
- 24:06Speaker 4: till Christmas, which makes budgeting less stressful. I can buy
- 24:09Speaker 4: in-store or online from macaulay.ie. For home delivery or free
- 24:14Speaker 4: click and collect.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So easy.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Gifts they'll cherish at prices you'll love.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 24:24Speaker 3: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 24:27Speaker 3: have faced tremendous setbacks and yet somehow have found a
- 24:32Speaker 3: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Life is one long lesson of chaos. I'm heading to
- 24:38Speaker 2: the Emmys, and I have police complaints filed against me.
- 24:41Speaker 2: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 24:43Speaker 2: what would you do if it was given back?
- 24:45Speaker 3: Where did that need come from where you thought that
- 24:48Speaker 3: you had.
- 24:49Speaker 2: To succeed in order to feel loved?
- 24:51Speaker 1: He said, I have a work dad. I need a
- 24:52Speaker 1: home dad.
- 24:53Speaker 2: What happens next? When I came in, he started crying.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Everybody in life encounters hardships.
- 24:58Speaker 3: What defines them is not those hard moments that they
- 25:01Speaker 3: go through.
- 25:02Speaker 2: It's about what happens next. I decided to risk it all.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I realized how valuable every day was. You're worth the work.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Listen, Dara, I'm not going to pull punches. You can
- 25:11Speaker 2: use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 25:13Speaker 3: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 25:27Speaker 1: Oh, hello, I didn't see you there. But you see
- 25:30Speaker 1: me because you're watching this. But have you subscribed? Have
- 25:33Speaker 1: you told a friend? Have you liked it? Have you
- 25:36Speaker 1: copied the link and texted it to someone you love
- 25:38Speaker 1: or you just feel like being a nice person to?
- 25:41Speaker 1: Please do that. It keeps us going. So if you
- 25:44Speaker 1: like watching Juicy Scoop here on YouTube, subscribe, like, and share.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop. I have one of
- 25:52Speaker 1: my favorite female comedians. We always have to say female.
- 25:57Speaker 1: before comedian. Jessie Curzon, welcome back to the show. We
- 26:02Speaker 1: did a Zoom last time. Yeah. And you were so funny.
- 26:06Speaker 1: And I just, I love following you on Instagram. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: love your, your hilarious standup, but I love that you
- 26:14Speaker 1: post all your like hilarious crowd work moments. I mean,
- 26:18Speaker 1: if you go see a Jessie show, sit in the
- 26:21Speaker 1: front and fucking get ready to possibly be part of
- 26:24Speaker 1: the show and have me laugh at you on the
- 26:26Speaker 1: Instagram later.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I love doing crowd work because I don't know
- 26:31Speaker 6: if you're like this, but I just get bored doing
- 26:34Speaker 6: the same shit over and over again. And I love
- 26:37Speaker 6: talking to people, and I think stand-up should be conversation.
- 26:40Speaker 6: I mean, if you have that kind of act, because
- 26:42Speaker 6: some people, it makes sense that they're not going to.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Talk to the crowd.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I mean, I... I don't do it that much, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: you are inspiring me to want to do it more
- 26:52Speaker 1: because I'm like, I just, but it also just really
- 26:55Speaker 1: works with like your personality, your cadence. Because obviously you're
- 26:59Speaker 1: from the East Coast. Where are you from?
- 27:01Speaker 2: I'm from, could you imagine? I'm from Tennessee.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You're like, I'm from Sherman Oaks, born and raised.
- 27:06Speaker 3: No, no.
- 27:07Speaker 2: No, I'm from Jersey.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I grew up in South Orange, New Jersey. And, yeah,
- 27:12Speaker 6: I just, I love talking to people. Because, you know,
- 27:15Speaker 6: you get so much material when you talk to people.
- 27:18Speaker 2: It's like, people, I get a.
- 27:21Speaker 6: Lot of my material from talking to people. Some people are,
- 27:24Speaker 6: you know, comics, some comics are writers. Like, they sit
- 27:26Speaker 6: and write. You might be like this.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I write, like, stories. Like, stories happen in my life.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And then I cultivate them into being, like, really strong,
- 27:35Speaker 1: kind of longer stand-up bits.
- 27:37Speaker 6: I wish I could sit down and write jokes, but
- 27:41Speaker 6: I come up with most of my material on stage.
- 27:44Speaker 1: That's great.
- 27:44Speaker 6: So it's either I have an idea and I flesh
- 27:47Speaker 6: it out by just talking about it, or sometimes I
- 27:49Speaker 6: just talk to the crowd and I get my ideas
- 27:52Speaker 6: from just my crowd work.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 27:54Speaker 2: So I love that.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And what's your favorite club to do in New York?
- 27:59Speaker 2: The Comedy Cellar.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I think I see most of your
- 28:01Speaker 1: videos from.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 2: They're mostly comedy crowds.
- 28:06Speaker 6: I mean, they're, they're fans of comedy and every show
- 28:08Speaker 6: is sold out and they just, they watch so much
- 28:11Speaker 6: comedy and they, they don't get offended by anything.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Most of the people that go there.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Speaking of the comedy seller, I think of Louis CK.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 1: And what was your thought during all of that stuff
- 28:24Speaker 1: when it went down, when the girls came forward and
- 28:27Speaker 1: all these other people came forward of his inappropriate behavior
- 28:30Speaker 1: with them and Being like, you know, just whipping it
- 28:32Speaker 1: out and masturbating in front of women, not asking for it.
- 28:36Speaker 1: What was that like? Because everyone knows them, everyone loves them,
- 28:40Speaker 1: and you're part of that crew. What was that like?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Well, I have so many of my own problems.
- 28:45Speaker 6: That I really focus on that situation because I can
- 28:50Speaker 6: barely get out of bed.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 6: You know, listen, I felt for those women, of course.
- 28:57Speaker 6: And I feel for every woman. I've been through my
- 29:00Speaker 6: own experiences. So it's a horrible situation. And it was
- 29:04Speaker 6: horrible to hear that. And I was very sensitive to
- 29:06Speaker 6: them and to all of it that was going on.
- 29:11Speaker 6: It was a lot because people were coming and like
- 29:13Speaker 6: some people, not a lot, but there was some protests
- 29:16Speaker 6: going on there. And the club did call me and say,
- 29:19Speaker 6: Do you feel okay? Do you feel safe here?
- 29:22Speaker 2: Do you need anything?
- 29:22Speaker 1: Oh, you mean if he was to go forward and
- 29:25Speaker 1: continue to perform there, some people are saying he shouldn't
- 29:28Speaker 1: be able to perform there anymore is what you're saying?
- 29:30Speaker 6: Well, I'm not sure if like a lot of comics
- 29:34Speaker 6: said that, but the club did call and just say,
- 29:36Speaker 6: you know, how do you feel?
- 29:37Speaker 2: Do you feel okay? Which I thought was great. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And then when he was going to come back and perform,
- 29:41Speaker 2: they said, do you feel okay with him performing here?
- 29:44Speaker 6: And I said, yeah, because I said, you know, a
- 29:45Speaker 6: lot of the comics are rapists and– you know. I mean,
- 29:50Speaker 6: these male– I'm like, God, I mean, almost every– I'm like, Jesus,
- 29:55Speaker 6: if you were to take out, you know.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Well, what was so weird and sad, and this is, listen,
- 30:00Speaker 1: this is not, this is, we're going to talk freely.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We're comedians, offensive people. People that are easily offended don't
- 30:06Speaker 1: listen to Juicy Scoop. But there's probably going to be
- 30:08Speaker 1: one or two that are going to get a one-star
- 30:10Speaker 1: review from this episode. But listen, in the scheme of
- 30:15Speaker 1: Me Too... There was Harvey Weinstein and, you know, several
- 30:20Speaker 1: tears down, if you're going to do it that way,
- 30:23Speaker 1: was Louis C.K.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 30:25Speaker 1: But still, all awful. But yes, I think some people
- 30:29Speaker 1: felt that way, too.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 30:30Speaker 6: But what they were saying is, like, do you feel...
- 30:33Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, there's other male comedians.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I mean, most men.
- 30:38Speaker 6: Like, not most, but a lot of men are, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 6: on the edge somewhere of being very inappropriate and doing
- 30:44Speaker 6: things that are not okay.
- 30:45Speaker 1: So.
- 30:46Speaker 6: Do I feel safe with, I mean, it's like saying,
- 30:51Speaker 6: meaning like there's a lot of male comics that have
- 30:53Speaker 6: done stuff that are not okay or that I feel
- 30:55Speaker 6: uncomfortable with.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Were male comics like meeting around the corner and being like, fuck,
- 31:01Speaker 1: who's next? Of course. Like, oh, we're waking up in
- 31:05Speaker 1: cold sweats. Like, oh my God, back in 2007, I
- 31:08Speaker 1: did this. You know, they're probably, they're like.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I think they were freaking out.
- 31:15Speaker 6: I mean, for so long, when I would take a
- 31:17Speaker 6: picture with so many male comics, they were like this, when.
- 31:19Speaker 2: We would take a picture, or like they wouldn't put
- 31:21Speaker 2: their arm around me.
- 31:22Speaker 1: You mean like around the Me Too, like in the
- 31:24Speaker 1: last couple years?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 6: I'm like, you can, first of all, I'm a lesbian,
- 31:27Speaker 6: so you can put your arm around me. Are you
- 31:29Speaker 6: okay with me putting my arm around you?
- 31:30Speaker 2: Like, I'm fine. I don't feel like you're going to
- 31:33Speaker 2: grab me.
- 31:34Speaker 6: I mean, if you're going to grab me, you know,
- 31:36Speaker 6: it's okay.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Right. You can put your arm around me.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 6: But I have also– I've said this in a lot
- 31:42Speaker 6: of interviews. I mean I'm a lesbian.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I'm older. I'm not a skinny– I'm going to be–
- 31:48Speaker 2: let's be honest. I'm not a.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Skinny 25-year-old hot girl. And I've– they've been– people in
- 31:53Speaker 6: the– men in the business, gay women, gay men have
- 31:58Speaker 6: been incredibly inappropriate with me, have touched me inappropriately, have
- 32:02Speaker 6: said things to me many, many, many times. So I
- 32:05Speaker 6: can't imagine– what they've done to women who are 25, 30.
- 32:09Speaker 2: 20, and hot.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Because they've even done it to me. Yeah. So it's, like,
- 32:16Speaker 2: it's unreal.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I just remember when I... So my first, like, real
- 32:20Speaker 1: job was writing on Keenan Ivory Wayne's late-night talk show
- 32:23Speaker 1: for a couple months until I called in sick to
- 32:26Speaker 1: audition for a pilot and another comic told on me,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and then I was fired. But for those couple months,
- 32:32Speaker 1: it was a pretty great experience. And I... And afterwards,
- 32:36Speaker 1: and I was like 27 or something, I went out
- 32:39Speaker 1: for some other audition. And it was like a woman,
- 32:42Speaker 1: probably just maybe 35, pretty attractive woman.
- 32:45Speaker 3: And, you.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Know, I think I put that like on my normal resume, too,
- 32:50Speaker 1: even though it was a writing job. And she's like,
- 32:53Speaker 1: you wrote for Keanu Reeves. And she goes, who'd you
- 32:56Speaker 1: have to blow to get that job?
- 32:58Speaker 2: Unbelievable.
- 32:58Speaker 1: But she wasn't even joking. Like, I think she was
- 33:01Speaker 1: actually being inquisitive. Like, I'd like to know because I
- 33:04Speaker 1: don't really like being this casting director. Like, I was
- 33:07Speaker 1: like literally, and I kind of was like.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Ha ha.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Like, I thought she was joking. But then look, after
- 33:13Speaker 1: all this me too, I started to look back at
- 33:16Speaker 1: things and be like, I don't even think I caught up.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I don't even think I caught some of the inappropriate
- 33:21Speaker 1: clues and things that were happening because I was always
- 33:24Speaker 1: just like, Oh, well, that joke didn't go over funny,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you old weird man. I feel sorry for you. So
- 33:29Speaker 1: I'm going to giggle and make you feel better rather
- 33:32Speaker 1: than be like, hey, sick fuck. You know, like, no.
- 33:36Speaker 6: So I completely understand and agree with what you're saying,
- 33:40Speaker 6: because I have talked to my friends so many times
- 33:43Speaker 6: about that, that I didn't pick up on so many
- 33:46Speaker 6: things that people have said and done to me. We've
- 33:48Speaker 6: talked all my friends and I have talked about that.
- 33:50Speaker 6: Like someone would smack my ass and I would like
- 33:53Speaker 6: weeks later or months later go, wait a second, was
- 33:55Speaker 6: that appropriate? Like this is not, we don't pick up
- 33:59Speaker 6: on things. We don't because we're so used to it
- 34:03Speaker 6: for so many years that it's just, it's.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Normal to us, I think. We don't.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Well, I think it's like the whole thing of women
- 34:09Speaker 1: being raised like polite and be nice and everything. So
- 34:13Speaker 1: when men would act inappropriate or their jokes wouldn't land,
- 34:17Speaker 1: even like in a corporate setting because they were being gross.
- 34:20Speaker 1: We were always like, oh, you know, I don't want
- 34:24Speaker 1: to make that loser feel bad. We are.
- 34:26Speaker 2: We still do it, by the way. I do it
- 34:28Speaker 2: to this day. I don't want to say I don't
- 34:29Speaker 2: do it. That's not being honest. I still do. I
- 34:32Speaker 2: still do it at times because it's a business thing.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Right, yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 6: And, you know, when you have to get things done sometimes,
- 34:39Speaker 6: you have to kind of make them feel okay. I
- 34:43Speaker 6: don't mean even in a sexual way, but in a
- 34:45Speaker 6: way to just stroke their ego.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Exactly, yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 6: Because they're so pathetic sometimes that you have to just
- 34:51Speaker 6: make them feel better about themselves to get shit done.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. And so you, okay, you were telling me
- 34:58Speaker 1: in the bathroom, and I go, let's just save it
- 35:00Speaker 1: for the show.
- 35:01Speaker 2: We went to the bathroom together.
- 35:02Speaker 1: We did.
- 35:02Speaker 2: We did.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And I was like, save it for the show, but
- 35:06Speaker 1: while we don't go to the show, tell me who
- 35:07Speaker 1: you hate in the comedy world. But we talked about that.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Just kidding. And then, but do tell me, like, so
- 35:13Speaker 1: you're a lesbian.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, mostly.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Mostly.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Yeah, not 100%.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Oh, you're not full-blown.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Well, speaking of blown, I do like giving blowjobs because
- 35:21Speaker 2: I'm an eater. You do? Oh, really?
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 2: And I don't chew.
- 35:25Speaker 6: So I like that, you know, like the feeling in
- 35:27Speaker 6: the back of my throat. Like I do it with sandwiches.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I don't, I don't, no, I've been with guys. I never,
- 35:34Speaker 2: it's not like it's like a sexual thing with guys.
- 35:37Speaker 6: It was more like I could never fall in love
- 35:38Speaker 6: with a guy, ever. I've never been in love with
- 35:41Speaker 6: a man. I never wanted to like spend time with
- 35:44Speaker 6: them the next day. I'd be like, ugh, the thought
- 35:46Speaker 6: of like spending the day with a guy that I'm.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Not friends with. Like I love men. A lot of
- 35:51Speaker 2: my best friends are guys.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Right, obviously, yeah.
- 35:53Speaker 2: But I just couldn't fall in love with a guy.
- 35:56Speaker 6: But it's not like men gross me out or I'm
- 35:59Speaker 6: disgusted by them.
- 36:01Speaker 2: But I was always– could fall in love with a woman.
- 36:04Speaker 1: So when was your first girlfriend– like was your first
- 36:09Speaker 1: romantic situation with a man?
- 36:11Speaker 3: No.
- 36:12Speaker 2: So I– well, I had– Boyfriends.
- 36:16Speaker 6: I mean, they were short periods of time. And again,
- 36:18Speaker 6: I couldn't wait for them to leave the house and
- 36:21Speaker 6: go out with my girlfriends.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:23Speaker 6: But I had, you know, crushes on women like, you know, Flashdance.
- 36:27Speaker 6: You know, what's her name?
- 36:29Speaker 1: Yes. When she took off the bra.
- 36:32Speaker 2: I mean, I was obsessed with her.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Which, by the way, let's talk about Flashdance, the movie.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Talk about an inappropriate situation.
- 36:40Speaker 2: She was only 18.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Working as the steel girl or whatever and then dancing.
- 36:47Speaker 1: And the guy that owned the whole company could not
- 36:49Speaker 1: have been younger than 38, 39.
- 36:52Speaker 2: That's true.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And that was her boyfriend.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I know. That's very true.
- 36:57Speaker 1: And then I always felt like, did he pay actually
- 37:00Speaker 1: to get her accepted into the ballet thing? Remember at
- 37:03Speaker 1: the end?
- 37:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:03Speaker 1: He was there with the dog and the roses.
- 37:06Speaker 2: I bet he did pay to get her. This is
- 37:08Speaker 2: very inappropriate, by the way. Was she like 11? Oh, no.
- 37:12Speaker 2: She was 18. I'm joking.
- 37:13Speaker 1: No, I remember she said she was 18. I remember
- 37:15Speaker 1: she like didn't go to college and she was being
- 37:18Speaker 1: the steel girl because like that you could make a
- 37:20Speaker 1: really good hourly wage. And remember she went. To the restaurant.
- 37:26Speaker 1: She's eating the lobster with just a bib on.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Yes, she was so hot. I was obsessed with her.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I think I watched it 846 times.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 37:36Speaker 2: And he was hot. The whole thing was like porn
- 37:38Speaker 2: to me.
- 37:38Speaker 1: And the other thing about that movie is whoever sang
- 37:42Speaker 1: the song in that movie, my mom, who is a realtor,
- 37:46Speaker 1: represented like that woman's agent. And that's where my mom said,
- 37:51Speaker 1: you know, he, the guy said, she doesn't like make
- 37:56Speaker 1: a lot of money. The person who wrote the music
- 37:58Speaker 1: makes a lot of money. And my mom's like, that's
- 38:00Speaker 1: why you have to be a writer. The writers are
- 38:02Speaker 1: the ones who make the money.
- 38:03Speaker 2: And I knew that about music.
- 38:06Speaker 1: And then I knew about that, about like when I
- 38:08Speaker 1: was working like early on TV shows, there were some
- 38:12Speaker 1: guys that worked on sitcoms and they're like, if you
- 38:13Speaker 1: ever get on a family sitcom, write the Christmas episode,
- 38:18Speaker 1: write the Halloween episode, because they'll always play those in residuals.
- 38:21Speaker 2: That's so true. Yeah. That's so funny. Yeah.
- 38:28Speaker 6: That is amazing, because I was on Kevin Can Wait,
- 38:30Speaker 6: the Halloween episode, and I always get.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Residuals for it. And I did Voices for Bubble Guppies,
- 38:36Speaker 2: the Halloween thing, and I always get residuals. I never
- 38:38Speaker 2: realized that.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 2: That makes complete sense now. Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Okay, so anyway, so you were hot for Flashdance Girl.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Hot for her.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, so go on.
- 38:49Speaker 2: So then I, no, my coming out story is amazing.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Well, let's hear it.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 38:54Speaker 6: So I went to University of Maryland, very Jewish, you know,
- 38:58Speaker 6: I'm Jewish, and like my sister went there, my cousins,
- 39:01Speaker 6: and I was in a sorority.
- 39:02Speaker 2: It was just hilarious.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Which one?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Delta Phi Epsilon.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Was that kind of a Jewish.
- 39:08Speaker 1: One, like a traditionally Jewish one?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yes, it was a Jewish sorority, but we weren't like,
- 39:11Speaker 2: The term is Jaffe, like Jewish American princess.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:13Speaker 2: You weren't like, hi everyone, how are you? What's going on?
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm in my sorority. Like, it wasn't like that.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 6: We were like potheads and didn't show up to anything.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a complete pothead.
- 39:23Speaker 1: The word they always used was, you guys are so apathetic.
- 39:26Speaker 1: We need to do more on the row for PR. Wow.
- 39:31Speaker 6: We were like, oh my God, where's the peg party?
- 39:34Speaker 6: We were wasted all the time. And it was good
- 39:36Speaker 6: for me because the college was 40,000 people and I
- 39:39Speaker 6: didn't know how to meet people. And it was great
- 39:42Speaker 6: to be part of this Right. Pledge class and being
- 39:45Speaker 6: a sorority, it really narrowed down. I lived in a
- 39:48Speaker 6: sorority house with 40 girls.
- 39:50Speaker 2: It was amazing.
- 39:51Speaker 3: So did I.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I was at a big school too. I was at
- 39:53Speaker 1: USC and that's why I loved the sorority life at
- 39:55Speaker 1: a big school. Great. Because I'm like, I wouldn't have
- 39:57Speaker 1: had people to go to the games with or do
- 39:59Speaker 1: anything with, but it was built in plans.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Amazing. And I lived in the house. It was where St.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Louis Fire was filmed.
- 40:05Speaker 2: So it was like where that was awesome.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I love that movie too.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:09Speaker 1: That's another movie where those people acted like they were 40.
- 40:12Speaker 1: And then you watch it now, you're like, they were 23.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Like wearing suits and like.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Having big houses.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I'm like, what the hell? They just graduated last spring.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Right. That's so true. They were, like, going through menopause.
- 40:30Speaker 1: So.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:31Speaker 6: Yeah, so I was in this sorority really into it and,
- 40:35Speaker 6: you know, would go to these formals and all this stuff,
- 40:37Speaker 6: but with the guy.
- 40:38Speaker 2: And I was, like, not... You know, everyone had boyfriends.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:41Speaker 6: And I would have boyfriends. But I never wanted to...
- 40:43Speaker 6: I had no idea I was gay. And all I
- 40:46Speaker 6: cared about was what people thought of me. I was
- 40:47Speaker 6: very concerned about what people thought of me.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Now, at any time in this time, like, what were
- 40:52Speaker 1: you studying? Did you... Secretly want to be a stand-up comic?
- 40:55Speaker 2: Never, never, never, never.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Did you ever watch stand-up comedy? Were you even like.
- 40:58Speaker 2: A fan of it?
- 40:58Speaker 6: No, I was a Saturday Night Live, Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett,
- 41:02Speaker 6: always sketch like. I liked stand-up but was never a
- 41:06Speaker 6: fan of stand-up. But I was the class clown.
- 41:09Speaker 1: But did you have aspirations to be on SNL or anything?
- 41:12Speaker 2: Yes, always.
- 41:13Speaker 1: But would you tell people or not because you were
- 41:15Speaker 1: this college fan? On a college path.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I was on a college path and I was going
- 41:19Speaker 2: to be a therapist.
- 41:20Speaker 6: My mother was a therapist. I had been in therapy
- 41:22Speaker 6: since I was in the womb. And I was but
- 41:25Speaker 6: I was a class clown. I mean, since I'm in
- 41:28Speaker 6: literally kindergarten, I was the everyone made everyone laugh constantly.
- 41:33Speaker 2: I always made faces. I was silly.
- 41:35Speaker 6: I'd crash into things on the street and fall down.
- 41:38Speaker 6: I was out of my mind, like out of my mind.
- 41:42Speaker 6: So anyone who finds out I'm a comedian is like,
- 41:44Speaker 6: of course she's a comedian. It's not shocking to anyone.
- 41:48Speaker 6: So I was in– this is great. I was a senior,
- 41:53Speaker 6: just starting my senior year, and a freshman girl came in.
- 41:56Speaker 2: And her name was Melissa.
- 41:58Speaker 6: And she came in to rush, which means for anyone,
- 42:01Speaker 6: you know, but, you know, came in to see the
- 42:03Speaker 6: sorority with a group of girls, the freshmen, and see
- 42:07Speaker 6: if she liked the sorority. We, you know, got to
- 42:10Speaker 6: meet them and see if we liked them. It's like
- 42:12Speaker 6: this auditioning process.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Yes, exactly.
- 42:14Speaker 6: And I saw her and I thought she was adorable.
- 42:17Speaker 6: And she noticed me. I mean, it was crazy.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 2: I had no idea about anything.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Yeah. And.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Then she ended up picking the sorority and we picked her.
- 42:27Speaker 6: And she and I connected. On what level, I don't understand.
- 42:32Speaker 6: And we just really liked each other. And over time,
- 42:37Speaker 6: ended up spending a lot of time together. And it
- 42:40Speaker 6: just grew into this... Well, like, when did the make-out happen? Well, basically,
- 42:45Speaker 6: to make a very long story short, for six months.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I don't need to know frozen yogurt dates.
- 42:50Speaker 2: You're like, when did you scissor? Um....
- 42:54Speaker 6: She and I, for six months, could not stay apart.
- 43:00Speaker 6: We would sit in the car and stare at each
- 43:02Speaker 6: other for three hours like this.
- 43:04Speaker 1: But not make out?
- 43:05Speaker 2: Not even talk. It was insane. I didn't know what
- 43:09Speaker 2: was happening.
- 43:10Speaker 6: I'm like, do I need to go to a mental institution?
- 43:13Speaker 2: I didn't think I was a lesbian. I didn't know
- 43:15Speaker 2: what was going on.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 43:16Speaker 6: There was so much tension. I would get jealous when
- 43:18Speaker 6: she was with guys, girls, like, hanging out. I would
- 43:21Speaker 6: get out of my mind when she would go to
- 43:23Speaker 6: a dance with someone. It was so confusing. I didn't
- 43:25Speaker 6: know what was happening. Basically, we went home for Christmas break.
- 43:30Speaker 6: She came to my house. She was from Jersey, too.
- 43:33Speaker 2: She came to my house. We drank wine. We got
- 43:35Speaker 2: a little high. We started wrestling. That's how it happens.
- 43:39Speaker 1: We made out. That happens a lot with gay men, too, wrestling.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I didn't know what happened with girls. Yep.
- 43:45Speaker 2: We started, like, playing... We both had outfits on and helmets. No,
- 43:50Speaker 2: I'm joking. Can you imagine?
- 43:53Speaker 6: We started wrestling, and then we made out, and we
- 43:59Speaker 6: both freaked out.
- 44:00Speaker 1: How long into the makeout did you freak out?
- 44:02Speaker 2: We made out a lot.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Okay, so you let the makeout go.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't do anything else. We didn't go to second.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Can you imagine?
- 44:08Speaker 2: I just said second. Second used to be like touching breasts.
- 44:12Speaker 2: That's what it is. Now it's anal. Anyway, so we started...
- 44:17Speaker 2: You have teenagers. Now it's anal. So we started, you know,
- 44:21Speaker 2: just like, you know, wrestling and making out. And we panicked.
- 44:25Speaker 2: We were both like, whoa, what just happened? Like, I
- 44:28Speaker 2: am not gay. You know, I was really freaked out.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I mean, that was a long time ago. Now it's not.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Now it's like if you're not gay, there's something wrong
- 44:37Speaker 1: with you.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Now if you're not bi, you're like, what? You're homophobic.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:42Speaker 2: So we.
- 44:46Speaker 6: We freaked out, and we got very uncomfortable and didn't
- 44:49Speaker 6: kind of talk for a week. I don't remember exactly
- 44:51Speaker 6: how long, but we kind of just didn't talk about it.
- 44:54Speaker 6: And then we drove back to Maryland together to go
- 44:57Speaker 6: back to school. We stayed in my apartment together so
- 44:59Speaker 6: I could get settled in. I took all my stuff back, and.
- 45:01Speaker 2: That was it. We just started having sex.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And did you know how to have female gay sex?
- 45:10Speaker 2: I had watched a lot of porn. Oh, good for you.
- 45:13Speaker 2: you know, teenage years.
- 45:14Speaker 1: So VHS tape.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Yes, of course. They were like, they were like boombox.
- 45:22Speaker 6: So I had, I didn't really know what I was doing,
- 45:25Speaker 6: but I mean, I kind of, I think I knew
- 45:27Speaker 6: more than she did. Um, and so, yeah, we were
- 45:30Speaker 6: having sex a lot, but again, to make a very
- 45:33Speaker 6: long story short, it was a nightmare because it was
- 45:36Speaker 6: a secret. for three years because she didn't graduate for
- 45:39Speaker 6: three years. And it was, it almost killed me. I mean, I,
- 45:43Speaker 6: we kept it from everyone and we were madly in
- 45:45Speaker 6: love and I still didn't think I was a lesbian.
- 45:48Speaker 6: I just thought I was in love with her. And, um,
- 45:51Speaker 6: so we were hiding it really. No one knew maybe
- 45:55Speaker 6: a couple of people, but really we kept it. We
- 45:58Speaker 6: were good at it. I mean, it was, it was
- 46:00Speaker 6: a job and we would meet in hotels halfway and
- 46:05Speaker 6: I missed her desperately.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Because now you had graduated.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Right. So I moved back home.
- 46:09Speaker 6: And I would date guys just to convince myself, not
- 46:13Speaker 6: even date, but just sleep with some guys just to
- 46:15Speaker 6: convince myself I wasn't gay.
- 46:17Speaker 2: And it was horrible because I would drink.
- 46:19Speaker 6: A lot and do like, you know, get high or
- 46:22Speaker 6: do some, like I just, it was a horrible thing
- 46:24Speaker 6: for me. And my family didn't know. And I was
- 46:28Speaker 6: hiding it from everyone and lying. And it was just,
- 46:30Speaker 6: it really almost killed me.
- 46:31Speaker 2: It was horrible.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:32Speaker 6: And, um, and it would kill me when she would
- 46:34Speaker 6: go to like these dances with guys so that people wouldn't.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Think she was gay. And it was just, it was
- 46:38Speaker 2: killing us.
- 46:40Speaker 6: And, uh, and then we end, I ended up coming
- 46:42Speaker 6: out to my family and I told my mother who's
- 46:44Speaker 6: a therapist and I was hysterically crying.
- 46:46Speaker 2: She's like, do you think I didn't know?
- 46:47Speaker 6: Like when she'd leave the house, you would be sobbing.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Like who sobs when a friend leaves the house? I'd
- 46:53Speaker 2: be like, Melissa!
- 46:54Speaker 1: Like one of my favorite fortune, one of my favorite
- 46:58Speaker 1: fortune febster jokes, speaking of fortune, um, And it was like,
- 47:03Speaker 1: you know, it was an old joke. So I don't
- 47:04Speaker 1: know if she still does, but it's my favorite where
- 47:06Speaker 1: she'd go. She had a coming out story where like
- 47:09Speaker 1: she didn't know she was gay until she like saw
- 47:12Speaker 1: this like after school special or Lifetime movie about a
- 47:14Speaker 1: girl being gay. And then she was like, oh, but
- 47:18Speaker 1: prior to that, like she had this best friend that
- 47:20Speaker 1: would go on like dates and stuff. But the best
- 47:22Speaker 1: friend didn't know that she was in love with her.
- 47:24Speaker 1: And she'd be like, and then my mom would be like,
- 47:26Speaker 1: why do you get so sad when, you know, Casey
- 47:29Speaker 1: goes out? And Fortune's like, you know, Fortune's like, because
- 47:32Speaker 1: she's my best friend!
- 47:35Speaker 2: Mom's like... She's my best friend. Yeah. It's so funny. Like, yeah.
- 47:45Speaker 1: So your mom clued in then.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Yeah. And when I told my sister, she literally thought
- 47:50Speaker 2: I was dying of cancer. I'm not kidding.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Oh, when you started to tell it.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I was sobbing. And, you know, I thought they would just.
- 47:57Speaker 1: That was a way people suggested to tell your family
- 48:00Speaker 1: that you were gay back like, you know. 20 years
- 48:03Speaker 1: ago is to say, you know, I have cancer this
- 48:06Speaker 1: and then have them cry and go, no, I don't
- 48:07Speaker 1: have cancer. I'm just gay. Right, right, right. And they're all,
- 48:10Speaker 1: thank God.
- 48:11Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Right. Nice way to soften the blow. That's so, she
- 48:14Speaker 1: thought you were sad.
- 48:16Speaker 2: You are amazingly funny. Yeah.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I love you.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:23Speaker 6: She, she was like, really like, so grateful that I
- 48:28Speaker 6: wasn't dying.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:30Speaker 2: And, and, My family is so accepting. I come from this.
- 48:35Speaker 6: Liberal Jewish family, thank God. I'm very lucky. My heart
- 48:40Speaker 6: goes out so much to people. The millions of kids
- 48:43Speaker 6: and teenagers and young adults and adults who have to
- 48:46Speaker 6: tell their families and they just, oh God, cut them off.
- 48:50Speaker 6: I literally just felt like I was going to cry.
- 48:52Speaker 6: It's so upsetting. I just constantly think about that because
- 48:56Speaker 6: I'm very blessed that my family didn't judge me for
- 49:01Speaker 6: a second or, you know, they love me no matter what.
- 49:03Speaker 6: I mean, I don't think it's like what my family
- 49:07Speaker 6: would have chosen for me. And the only reason why
- 49:09Speaker 6: is because and both my parents said this because of
- 49:11Speaker 6: the way I what I had to go through, because
- 49:14Speaker 6: at the time it was not accepted, meaning my my
- 49:19Speaker 6: mom and. my dad said, you know, the hardest thing
- 49:21Speaker 6: for us is that you can't walk down the street
- 49:24Speaker 6: holding hands with your, the person you love. And I mean,
- 49:27Speaker 6: you can, but you're going to get ridiculed and looks and, um,
- 49:30Speaker 6: it's going to be harder for you in your life.
- 49:32Speaker 6: Like at that point, they didn't ever think I'd have
- 49:34Speaker 6: kids ever. Like they, the thought of me having kids
- 49:38Speaker 6: was my mom always says that I never thought you
- 49:40Speaker 6: would have a child ever.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:43Speaker 2: So, um, it was very hard for them to think
- 49:47Speaker 2: of me having a wife.
- 49:48Speaker 1: So what happened with you and Melissa?
- 49:49Speaker 6: Melissa and I stayed together for, um, about seven years.
- 49:54Speaker 6: And I, she was the, she was the love of
- 49:56Speaker 6: my life at the time. I, she's an amazing person. And, uh,
- 50:01Speaker 6: she still, we both moved to North Hampton, Massachusetts, which
- 50:05Speaker 6: is called Dyke, uh, It is all, not all lesbians,
- 50:09Speaker 6: but there's a lot of lesbians there.
- 50:11Speaker 1: What's it called?
- 50:13Speaker 2: It's called Dykesville.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It's called Dykesville.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Well, I mean, meaning there's so many lesbians there.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 6: And I moved there to come out because it was
- 50:22Speaker 6: very comfortable for me. But I was like, I was
- 50:26Speaker 6: really using, I was like smoking pot a ton.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I was going through a very hard time coming out.
- 50:32Speaker 1: And at this time you're still not exploring stand-up or anything?
- 50:35Speaker 6: No.
- 50:35Speaker 1: No.
- 50:36Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 50:38Speaker 1: When did you come out as a comedian? That must
- 50:39Speaker 1: have been more disappointing for your family.
- 50:41Speaker 2: Oh, that's so funny.
- 50:43Speaker 6: Well, I moved back home and I went to school
- 50:46Speaker 6: at NYU to be a social worker for an MSW.
- 50:49Speaker 2: And I, this is the thing.
- 50:52Speaker 6: I come from, my parents were both in like community theater.
- 50:56Speaker 6: They both loved acting. And my mom, my parents were
- 51:00Speaker 6: divorced and my mom started dating I told you this before,
- 51:04Speaker 6: but Zach Braff's father from Scrubs.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 51:08Speaker 6: And Zach was a child actor. So they were kind
- 51:11Speaker 6: of around that. And Zach was auditioning every day. So
- 51:15Speaker 6: my mom was driving him to auditions. And his two brothers,
- 51:19Speaker 6: who were older, were into writing. So they were both experimenting.
- 51:25Speaker 6: So they were kind of around it.
- 51:27Speaker 1: So your career is based on nepotism, but through marriage.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Right. That's true.
- 51:34Speaker 6: So I was going to school to be a social worker,
- 51:36Speaker 6: and I was at my family country club. And my grandmother,
- 51:39Speaker 6: I was sitting with my sister and my cousins.
- 51:42Speaker 2: This is incredible, too. And my grandmother, my beautiful.
- 51:46Speaker 6: Jewish grandmother, Bea Farbman, was sitting in the grill room
- 51:51Speaker 6: at the country club.
- 51:52Speaker 2: And she's looking at me with that face. This is
- 51:54Speaker 2: my old Jewish face, even when they say something positive.
- 51:57Speaker 2: It's gorgeous outside. Look at this weather. And she's like,
- 52:04Speaker 2: isn't that true? I never felt better. I feel great.
- 52:13Speaker 2: So she goes, Jessie, come here. And I said, what, Nanny?
- 52:16Speaker 2: And I came over and she goes, you need to
- 52:19Speaker 2: be a comedian. Every time you're with people, they're laughing.
- 52:24Speaker 2: That's what she said to me.
- 52:25Speaker 6: And I said, Nanny, I could never, ever stand on
- 52:30Speaker 6: stage in front of people.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Because I had a fear of performing.
- 52:33Speaker 6: I said, there's no way I could. She goes, I'm
- 52:37Speaker 6: telling you, I'm your grandmother. You need to make people laugh.
- 52:42Speaker 6: That's what you're supposed to do. You trust me.
- 52:44Speaker 2: I'm your grandmother. That's what you do.
- 52:47Speaker 6: And I couldn't, there's no, I'm telling you, I could never,
- 52:51Speaker 6: I've never stood in front of people and talked.
- 52:53Speaker 2: I can't. And she said, you promised me you'd do that. Like,
- 52:56Speaker 2: she made me do it. Did she ever get to
- 52:58Speaker 2: see you do it? A bunch of times.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Oh, good.
- 53:01Speaker 2: On The Tonight Show, The View.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Oh, awesome.
- 53:03Speaker 2: So I was lost. I didn't really want to be
- 53:07Speaker 2: a therapist.
- 53:07Speaker 6: I was in graduate school, and I looked in The
- 53:09Speaker 6: Village Voice in New York, and on the back of
- 53:11Speaker 6: the thing was a class, American Comedy.
- 53:14Speaker 2: I took that class, too. I would have done it
- 53:16Speaker 2: if I didn't take a class.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Me, too.
- 53:18Speaker 2: See, I love that you people like us.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Because a lot of people are like, I went to
- 53:21Speaker 2: an open mic. And I just got on stage. I'm like,
- 53:23Speaker 2: how did you do that?
- 53:25Speaker 1: Well, also, I think because you and I, like, had
- 53:27Speaker 1: a similar thing in, like, college, sorority, like, studying your thing.
- 53:31Speaker 1: And also knowing that I should do it, but also
- 53:35Speaker 1: at the end of the class, six weeks, you got.
- 53:37Speaker 2: A little show.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Yes. And I'm like, if I have a deadline, my
- 53:41Speaker 1: family wants to come, I know I'll deliver.
- 53:44Speaker 2: That's exactly what I did. Exact same thing. My whole
- 53:49Speaker 2: family came.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 53:51Speaker 2: And I took that six-week class.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 53:53Speaker 2: But– so my mom's a– like a big therapist.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 53:56Speaker 6: She had to take me to someone who deals with fears.
- 53:59Speaker 6: I literally had to stand across from this guy and
- 54:02Speaker 6: like do work with him.
- 54:03Speaker 2: I was petrified. Oh, wow. Petrified.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 6: Like that's why I tell people you can do whatever
- 54:08Speaker 6: you want. Like if I could do this, I was
- 54:10Speaker 6: not okay. Like I was throwing up.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I tell people to do a class too. The only
- 54:14Speaker 1: people I tell don't be a stand-up is because there's
- 54:17Speaker 1: people that– I'm like, if you've never made someone chuckle
- 54:21Speaker 1: at a cocktail party, laugh at a slumber party, don't
- 54:24Speaker 1: do it. But if you have, but you don't know
- 54:27Speaker 1: how to get on stage or you don't know how
- 54:29Speaker 1: to put together a personal story that your best friend
- 54:32Speaker 1: would laugh at, and you're like, I know my best
- 54:33Speaker 1: friend would laugh at it, but how would the audience?
- 54:35Speaker 1: I'm like, take a class.
- 54:37Speaker 2: You know what I tell people?
- 54:38Speaker 1: You can learn it.
- 54:38Speaker 2: If you're really happy.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Like, if you're really happy, you can't just.
- 54:45Speaker 2: I'm not kidding.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Listen, there is something wrong with you if you pursue
- 54:52Speaker 1: stand-up comedy.
- 54:54Speaker 2: I'm sorry. We're not okay. I don't know about you.
- 54:56Speaker 2: I am not okay. It's okay. I've accepted it, and
- 55:00Speaker 2: I'm okay with it.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Sometimes my kids or my husband will be like, you're
- 55:04Speaker 1: so weird. I'm like, yeah?
- 55:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Are you just figuring that out now?
- 55:09Speaker 2: I mean, it's okay. We have to embrace it, but
- 55:11Speaker 2: you cannot do this if you're okay.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, there's something off. There has to be
- 55:16Speaker 2: something off.
- 55:17Speaker 6: It doesn't mean we're, like, miserable and we're, like, ready
- 55:20Speaker 6: to jump off of a building. But we're not okay
- 55:22Speaker 6: in some way or another.
- 55:23Speaker 1: And then when you keep going.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 55:26Speaker 1: After horrific experiences.
- 55:29Speaker 6: You have to be able to be okay with being
- 55:32Speaker 6: distraught and being punched. And you have to be able
- 55:35Speaker 6: to get back up after going through horrible experiences.
- 55:38Speaker 1: A lot of self-doubt. Yeah.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:40Speaker 1: So was your first experience a pleasant one then?
- 55:44Speaker 2: It was good.
- 55:44Speaker 6: I mean, I did, you know, I mean, of course,
- 55:47Speaker 6: I had 30 people there, you know, to come see me.
- 55:50Speaker 6: And it was at Caroline's on Broadway, you know, so
- 55:53Speaker 6: it was and it was it was I didn't do great,
- 55:55Speaker 6: but at least I had the support of all the
- 55:57Speaker 6: people there. And that's the only reason why I did it.
- 56:01Speaker 6: And then part of me was like, then I did
- 56:03Speaker 6: the open mics and it was so uncomfortable and so
- 56:07Speaker 6: weird and didn't. It wasn't cushy, as you know, doing
- 56:11Speaker 6: open mics and bar shows, but a part of that
- 56:13Speaker 6: was familiar to me.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Yeah. And I was okay with it.
- 56:16Speaker 1: Well, what happened with me is similar is like, you know,
- 56:18Speaker 1: since I grew up here and I had all this,
- 56:21Speaker 1: I had family and I had friends and sorority people
- 56:23Speaker 1: that were like, yeah, we'll come see you.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 56:26Speaker 1: So whenever I had like a bigger, more important night, like,
- 56:29Speaker 1: you know, at the improv and I don't, I think
- 56:32Speaker 1: I'd just become a regular at the improv, but even, like,
- 56:34Speaker 1: shows that, you know, someone would produce. But it would be, like,
- 56:37Speaker 1: a decent place that I wasn't embarrassed to invite people to.
- 56:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 1: So I'd have, you know, and my parents would come
- 56:42Speaker 1: and they'd, like, bring their friends. My parents would bring
- 56:44Speaker 1: their marriage therapist. The marriage therapist wanted to be a comedian.
- 56:48Speaker 2: You can't make this shit up. I swear to God.
- 56:50Speaker 2: That is amazing.
- 56:51Speaker 1: And then they would, like, buy the guy a nice
- 56:53Speaker 1: dinner and everything. Like, they liked going to this one place,
- 56:55Speaker 1: Luna Park, because it, like, had nice food. That was
- 56:57Speaker 1: in West Hollywood. Anyway, so... But then I remember some comedians,
- 57:02Speaker 1: some male comedians started talking shit about me saying like,
- 57:05Speaker 1: of course she does well. She packs the room. She
- 57:08Speaker 1: brings everybody. Of course.
- 57:08Speaker 2: You're always going to get that. Fuck you.
- 57:10Speaker 1: I have the best. My crowd still laughs for you
- 57:13Speaker 1: and you're not even funny because they're like nice and
- 57:15Speaker 1: they like felt bad. So they would like laugh for
- 57:17Speaker 1: like the losers too. And I'm like, you should be
- 57:20Speaker 1: so happy that I'm on your show. I'm bringing like
- 57:22Speaker 1: great people. Yeah.
- 57:23Speaker 2: You can't win.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:25Speaker 2: You especially can't win as a female comic.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 6: If you're funny, you're always going to get judged. I mean,
- 57:34Speaker 6: all comics will get judged by other comics, but if
- 57:36Speaker 6: you're a female comic and you're funny, forget it.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Right, yeah.
- 57:39Speaker 6: You're definitely going to get judged.
- 57:42Speaker 1: So then tell me how you ended up with all
- 57:45Speaker 1: your children and your ex-wife. Baby mamas and all that.
- 57:48Speaker 2: It's hilarious. Your ex-baby mamas.
- 57:51Speaker 6: Well, I met my first partner when I was– this
- 57:56Speaker 6: is great, too. I was flyering on the street, which
- 57:58Speaker 6: means for people that don't know, I was on the
- 58:00Speaker 6: street in New York City doing a show for The Duplex,
- 58:03Speaker 6: which is like a gay– cabaret club and bar it's
- 58:08Speaker 6: great it's on Christopher Street in New York and I
- 58:10Speaker 6: was handing out flyers you do that to get stage.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Time you do that in Las Vegas too yeah yeah
- 58:15Speaker 1: for sex trade and stuff.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Yeah I did it for that too.
- 58:22Speaker 1: So that's how you get enough people to come so
- 58:24Speaker 1: they can perform and could they go for free or
- 58:27Speaker 1: they still had to pay to see the show.
- 58:28Speaker 6: I think they had to pay $ 5. And so my, uh,
- 58:33Speaker 6: my ex walked up with her friend and I was
- 58:36Speaker 6: with like Aaron Foley and all these people that you
- 58:38Speaker 6: probably know is amazing. And we were all just doing
- 58:42Speaker 6: it to get a spot, like at a five minute.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Spot, you know, it was, that's what you had to do.
- 58:46Speaker 6: It was a Friday night and I was six months
- 58:49Speaker 6: into comedy or something. So this was 23 years ago
- 58:53Speaker 6: and she walked up and she came to the show
- 58:56Speaker 6: and And she thought I was a flyer for a living.
- 58:59Speaker 6: She didn't even know I was a comic.
- 59:00Speaker 2: She thought I stood outside and gave out flyers. And
- 59:04Speaker 2: then she saw me perform and that was it. She
- 59:06Speaker 2: wanted me right away.
- 59:07Speaker 3: No.
- 59:08Speaker 6: Um she she came to the show and the typical
- 59:12Speaker 6: lesbian thing like she saw me perform and that that
- 59:15Speaker 6: night and then we hung out and.
- 59:16Speaker 2: She's like i'm spending the rest of my life with.
- 59:19Speaker 1: You you know it's typical lesbian now why do they
- 59:21Speaker 1: say that about a lesbian it's that like the second
- 59:23Speaker 1: date they.
- 59:23Speaker 6: Bring the u-haul because it's an emotional thing I mean, women,
- 59:27Speaker 6: it's just like it gets emotional immediately and you just connect.
- 59:32Speaker 2: That's it.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:34Speaker 6: I don't think it's as common like that as it
- 59:37Speaker 6: used to be. I think people are more centered now
- 59:43Speaker 6: and kind of it's not– it seems like the younger generations,
- 59:48Speaker 6: they don't move in right away anymore.
- 59:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:51Speaker 2: It's not as common as it used to be.
- 59:52Speaker 1: They said that so few– People are, like, cohabitating. Right. Like,
- 59:58Speaker 1: the thing to do is if you're going to build
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a new building is to make more just, like, studio
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: single units. Yeah. Because it's, like, even if people sometimes
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: get together, they want to keep their separate space.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Like.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: A lot. I have some friends who are divorced and stuff.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, you know, if you don't need to
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: get married to have kids and it's not like the
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: guy is richer than you, like you have a nice
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: home too, I'm like, why would you ever want to
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: move in? Don't you like having your own bed and
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: your own thing? And then like go have your fun weekends,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: have them spend the night, and then goodbye. And then
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I'll see you like Thursday.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I think that's a very good idea.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Yeah. If you're not looking to procreate and have babies
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: together or your kids are older, especially if your kids
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: are older and you don't need him financially, why would
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you ever combine, like, teenage kids? Like, let them get older.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: And then if you want to live together when you're, like, 60, okay,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: they're not going to care to come– you know, they're
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: going to be fine when they come visit.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: Or you could do something where you do have– you know,
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: if you need to do it for, like– You know,
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: like for ways that you can see each other in
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: the hospital, whatever it is.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I don't know all the details. But like you can.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: Do that and keep your money separate and keep your
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: own homes and whatever.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Do what you need to do to protect yourself legally.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Make them your life partner.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Yeah. But still. Yeah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: OK.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: So Shari and I ended up. getting together. And then we,
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: marriage wasn't legal then. Gay marriage wasn't legal.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: So we had this huge Jewish wedding.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Where'd you do it at?
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: In New York City. Okay.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: But it wasn't legal. But we just felt like we
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: wanted to celebrate. So it's just called like a commitment
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: or a union.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Right, exactly.
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: And what did you wear? Oh my God, this is
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: so funny. So like, I felt like I didn't want to.
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: I had a very hard time saying no.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: What year was this?
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: So this must have been– Zoe is going to be 16.
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: So this was like 17 years ago.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: And I wore a skirt. Oh, my God.
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: I'm going to kill myself. I wore a skirt and
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: like a blazer, but I didn't want to.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: In white?
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: I couldn't say no at the time.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Well, who's making you wear this outfit?
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: My ex.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: She didn't make me, but she- What did she wear?
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: She wanted me to wear a dress, a wedding dress.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: I'm always the more like male kind of in the relationship.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: But I should have worn a pantsuit. Yeah.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: But I just kind of was like, you know, didn't have,
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: I didn't speak up a lot at that point in
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: my life.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: And I wore black.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Oh, you wore a black skirt and top?
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we both did.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Okay.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: It was kind of like we made.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Up our own thing. Yeah, sure.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: And it was.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: Uncomfortable for me. Like, I should have definitely worn a pantsuit.
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: I felt like I was in drag. I was in
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: a tough time in my life.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: You're in drag, but you're in drag like a.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: It was bad.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Oh, you were like, oh, drag, like, like dress like
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: a woman, but you really wanted to be like in a,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: in a nice cute fitted pants. Oh, sure. Yeah.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: I'm very male in a lot of ways. So that
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: was not the right outfit for me. I have not worn,
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: this is a true statement.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: I have not worn a skirt or a dress since
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: that day. Not one time.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: Good for you.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Not even as a joke and nothing.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: That was the last time 17 years ago that I
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: ever wore a skirt or a dress or anything other
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: than pants or shorts.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: That was the last day.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Is there anything like that in your closet?
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: No.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you cleaned that out.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: No, that was the last day. No, I did a bonfire.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Oh, good.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: No, I'm joking. But that was the last day, that day.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Okay. So you get married.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: So it was a beautiful wedding.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Gorgeous.
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: And then we did in vitro.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Okay. Now, how did you pick the male sperm?
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: We used a donor.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: But how did you choose a donor?
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: My characteristics, my features, you're able to see someone. Okay. Amazing.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Pictures until they're eight or nine. He was stunning. Voice recordings,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: everything was fantastic. Very high quality.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Were you deciding between three people?
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Yeah, there was about three. And it was Jewish, my teachers.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Do you also choose what they did for a living?
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Everything, everything. You know a lot. I mean, the more
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: you pay, the more you know.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: So was this guy a stand-up comic too?
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no. But it's incredible what you
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: can know if you pay. Okay. And this was amazing,
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: what we were able to get.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: And it was very.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: very similar to who I am and what I look
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: like and everything.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: And so then, and so then it was her egg
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and she carried.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Um, and it worked the first time.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: And that's your daughter.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: And that's my, that's my almost 16 year old Zoe.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: Um, and she is, um, an actress and she is
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: amazing and she has an agent and she goes to
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: high school for the performing arts half the day. She's, Unreal.
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: And she is all over my Instagram, and she's on
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: my TikTok, and people follow her.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: She's unbelievable. She's an incredible kid.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: So what happened there?
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: I'm in love with her. I'm in love with that child.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Is that the only child you guys had together?
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: So that's our only child together. So then why did
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: you break up?
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: So we.
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: Ended up– we got together young. We were both, you know,
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: just– we're very good friends. We, you know, we get
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: along great.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: We co-parent. She lives with Shari.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: Shari obviously does everything because she lives with her and
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: has always done everything.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: Your daughter does. Right. And my ex, I mean, Shari
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: does everything. Okay. Because I'm always on the road and
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: she lives with her. Okay.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: And– Uh, so, and I'm very grateful to her, you know,
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: she is a great mother and Shari and Zoe's a
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: great kid.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Um, and you know.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: So how old was your daughter Zoe when you guys
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: stopped living together?
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: We stopped living together for good when she was like five.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: So it just didn't work out. We went our separate
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: ways and, and we, it's, you know, it's great now.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: We all get along and it's all good. Um, and again,
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: Zoe's amazing. So then we broke up and then I
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: ended up meeting Danielle, who's my current wife.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: And Danielle is hilarious. Danielle's a therapist. My mother's a therapist.
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: I mean, this is all like, so I had a
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: sitcom deal for all of this with NBC Peacock and
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: it didn't end up going through. But my whole sitcom
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: idea is that I have two baby mamas.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Oh, wait. So this is recent then that you got
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: this deal because it's Peacock.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. It was a deal that I had during,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: right before COVID.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: So which I'm going to, you know, rework and go
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: out again because it is an amazing story. So I
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: met Danielle and Danielle and I worked on having not
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: the same donor.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Did it again.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: She wanted kids. And I was like, of course, I
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: would have more kids. And we tried and went through
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: some bumps. And and then we got pregnant with Isabella,
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: who's now six.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Six and a half.
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: And we went through a lot with Isabella because, unfortunately,
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: we found out six months into the pregnancy that Isabella
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: has severe heart disease, which I don't even think you know.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: She has major heart disease. It's hard because a lot
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: of times when I talk about this, people will go, oh, yeah,
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: my friend has a daughter with a hole in her heart.
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: This is much more severe.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: So at six days old, she had to have open
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: heart surgery.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: She's had three. And she's had a stent through her groin.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: And she hasn't even had the major– she has to
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: have her valve replaced, your main heart valve.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: And she has two major problems. And so she has
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: to have a bunch more surgeries, unfortunately. But she's stable.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: She's stable.
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: And she is okay, but we have to take her
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: every six months to get these major tests.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Can she go to regular school and stuff?
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: Yeah, she goes to regular school. Thank God she's healthy.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: She has to take medication twice a day for the
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: rest of her life. But by looking at her, you
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: would never know something's wrong. I mean, she has tons
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: of scars, but she's like a beautiful, normal-looking six-year-old child.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: You know, that has completely changed my life because it's
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: made me.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Relook everything.
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: It's like once you go through something like that, and
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: I'm sure a lot of people listening to this and
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: watching this have a child with health issues or know
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: someone or have a family member. It's like you just
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: get so grateful for everything. And it's like, even as
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: a comic, and I know you're going.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: To get this.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: When I look out at people who are so miserable
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: in the audience, I mean, you're going to laugh at this.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: And I know people that are listening. I've literally said
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: to people who are look, look like they're like miserable
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: or shaking. I'm like, when I've been so enraged or
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: I'm burnt out, I'm like, why don't you go to
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: a children's hospital?
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: And sit in the.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: Lobby and look around and look this ungrateful. It's like
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: I get enraged with people. It's like, why are you here?
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Why are you?
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: I mean, I knew you were going to laugh as
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: a comic because comics always laugh when I say that. Like,
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: this might sound very dark to people. But I mean
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: it in a funny way. Like, you are miserable looking. Like,
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: go look around and look this miserable, you ungrateful piece
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: of shit. Like, this is, things could be a lot
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: worse than sitting in a comedy show.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: You are miserable. Go bowling. Why are you here?
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I'm a pretty happy person. I think it's because I
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: was the youngest of five. And early on, my dad
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: would go, what's wrong with you, sourpuss?
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: I was called sourpuss, too.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: So I couldn't be bummed. Me, too. I had to
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: be happy all the time.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: I do look always like, what's the bright side of this?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: You know, like, where's the positive? I got to find
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the positive. When will it reveal itself that this was
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: all meant to be the way it's supposed to be? Like,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I definitely am like that. But, you know, sometimes I'm like,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: you know, sometimes I want to be pissed. And now
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I always say now I'm just famous enough that I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: cannot be the bitch I sometimes deserve to be out
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: in public.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Because there are.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Times that you deserve to be a bitch. And there's
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: times that you're having a horrible experience in a customer
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: service situation. But it's like, oh, my God, if someone
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: then gets back to Heather McDonald as a fucking bitch
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: and there's a TikTok about it, I'm going to die.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: You can't do it.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: No.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: You're right. You are there where you can't do that.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: And so I think also that's forced me to like never.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: You are at that point.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: I can still freak out. I did a JetBlue the
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: other day, but you have to be careful.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: What happened on JetBlue?
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: I almost didn't make my flight because they couldn't get
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: in touch with the people at the gate. I'm like,
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: they're 200 feet away. What are you talking about? You
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: can't reach them? I was checking in and they were like,
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: we can't reach the people at the gate.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: For like 20 minutes I was standing there.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Wait, so you're about to walk down the path?
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: Yeah, and they couldn't reach the people at the gate
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: to ask them if they were boarding or not. I'm like,
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: do you want to just have someone walk over there
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: and just find out what's going on?
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: I was so angry. But the point is also, I
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: want to say about this thing with my daughter.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: That I'm also grateful that she's okay and alive. And
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: that I have gone to the best doctor in the
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: world for this at Columbia in New York City. And
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: that I've seen children die.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Like, I am grateful. I look at the bright side.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: Like, I've seen the worst things that could happen to children.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: And my kid's okay. And she'll be okay.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: And things could always be worse.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: And anyway, she's okay. And then I have twin three-year-olds.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: So we've had three.
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: We didn't plan on having twins. We got pregnant again
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: so she could have a younger sibling. And then their
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: doctor was like, you're having two. And we were like, wait,
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: did you put two embryos in or they broke?
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: We did.
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: We put two in and then we did not plan.
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: I mean, she was a little bit older.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: So you thought only one would take.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So now I have four daughters.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: All girls.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Two baby mamas.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I have four little girls. So you knew you were
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: putting girls in. We didn't. Oh, you didn't know?
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I just ended up having four girls.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: No, you didn't know?
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I love having four girls.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: When you chose the embryos, you didn't know the sex
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: of the embryos?
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: No, no idea.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: No idea. Oh, that's cool.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: No idea. So it's amazing. I have four daughters. That's awesome.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: I love having four daughters.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: That's great.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: I feel like I have this women's march. It's hysterical.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: I mean, they're so cute.
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: They're on my Instagram and my TikTok.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: I put videos of them. I mean, and I'm older,
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: you know. It's a hilarious thing.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I have these. So you live in the city?
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: I live on Long Island. I wanted them to have
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: a house and be in the suburbs. That's how I
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: grew up.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: I want a yard.
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: I just wanted that for them because I'm on.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: The road all the time.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: And how long does it take for you to get
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: from your house to the Comedy Cellar in New York?
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Not long. I mean, what, 40 minutes? It's not bad.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Do you drive?
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: I'm always driving. I can't take the train and the bus.
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: I will end up killing someone on public transportation.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: I can't.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Every time I've gone to New York, and I've never
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: stayed there for a long period of time. Like maybe
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: four days is the most, you know? And I think
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I've been on the subway once.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Also, I don't trust myself like that. I would completely
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: get lost or something like that. I know. And then
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: people are like, no, you should just, you're like, they're like, no,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: don't get in a cab to go to this place.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Go right here.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I'm like, no.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Now you can't.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: I don't care if it takes an hour and a half.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: It's dangerous now. Now it is. It's bad.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: It's really bad. My friend was punched in the ribs
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: yesterday on his bike. I know that sounds crazy.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: What do you mean? He's pedaling and someone still managed
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: to punch him?
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Someone was in the car. Can you believe this?
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: And felt like he, on his bike, cut them off
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: and got out of his car and punched him in
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: the ribs.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: I'm not kidding.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: It's bad there right now.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: Watch now all these people, hundreds of thousands of people
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: are listening, aren't going to go to New York.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: I mean it. It's a little crazy there.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: No, I have heard that.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: It's scary. Yeah.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Things need to change in all these cities to make
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: it safer. It's crazy. It's gotten to the point where
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: it's like, no, more people. we need to, I know
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: it's not good.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: So, um, I thought I'd bring up something positive just
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: so that people, I'm talking about my daughters and I'm like,
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: you're going to get assaulted if you come to New
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: York anyway.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: So back to my kids.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Um, tell me some of like your greatest. So what
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: was like your big break? Like, when did you go,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: I can do this for a living and be successful?
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Has it happened yet? No, just kidding.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Oh my God, you're so funny. This podcast, being here
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: today has made me know I can do this. I
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: don't know what the big thing was. I honestly think
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: when I started doing the road and making some money,
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: like even if it were like $ 500, like just knowing
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: that I could make money and survive made me know
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: that I can do this. But there's been some experiences
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: that have really like just been highlights for me even
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: when I was at the comedy cellar on a Tuesday
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: night at midnight and I'm on stage for like 20
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: people making $ 25 and I'm getting heckled from the back
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: of the room.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: You're amazing you're a star.
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: And I look out and it's Robin Williams who is
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: my idol because he was a quick fire you know
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: that's how I am on stage I'm so crazy on
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: stage yes I look out and it's him That's awesome.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: And I got off stage and he was hugging me saying,
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: you're going to be a star.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: You're amazing.
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: Don't ever stop doing what you're doing. And I was
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: like doubting myself at the time and going through a
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: hard time.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: And things like that.
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: Or I couldn't get a comedy special, which was to
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: me insane. Everyone else was getting specials and I had
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: been doing it 20 times.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: What, 21 years.
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: And then Bill Burr called me out of nowhere and said,
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: I want to produce a special for you.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: This was three years ago. I mean, it's crazy.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: That's awesome. I'm like, where can people watch that special on?
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: Well, it was on once on comedy central, but it's
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: on the app where they can watch it on Amazon.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: Um, but you know, he just put me on something
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: for Netflix in may. I mean, he, Netflix hasn't given
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: me anything and he just called and said, I put
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: you on my special, a special I'm doing in may.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: It's like, Comics have always helped me. Yeah. Thank God.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: That's great.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I'm sure you get it, too. Yeah.
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: Comics have always thought of me and helped me. So
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: I'm filming my own crowd work special now.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Oh, good. And I'm going to put it out if
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: it doesn't get picked up.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Where are you doing that?
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: I'm doing it at the Comedy Cellar. Yeah, you should.
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: So I just keep filming 15-minute sets where I only
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: do crowd work, and I'm putting.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: A special together.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Oh, that's great.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: It's great.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: So it'll be of different nights, though.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: All the best. All different nights, like 10 sets.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: I love it. Yeah.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: Where I only do crowd work and the ones I
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: filmed are just hysterical.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I mean, one of them I sing with a band.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: I'm singing gospel. It's crazy.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: And so, okay, so now what's some of your worst
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: experiences that you thought I might have to quit doing this?
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: There's a lot.
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: I mean, I know you'd have them too. But I've
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: had bottles thrown at me.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: I mean, literally.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Why would someone throw a bottle at you?
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: A guy, a French tourist. I was at the Improv
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: in New York years and years ago, and he just
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: did not like my stand-up.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: Nothing. There was no warning. He literally just did not
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: like what I was saying. It wasn't even offensive. This
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: was years ago. And he just was like, you know,
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: said something in French and grabbed bottles off of his...
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Can you believe that? I'm a woman, like.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Did you duck?
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Did it come close to you?
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Yes, I was ducking.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: And I had had it and took one and threw
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: it back at him. And he ducked and I hit
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: a Swedish woman. It was all tourists there.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: It was in Midtown. And I hit her and she
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: started yelling at me. It was so crazy.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: Then they escorted me out to my car.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Um... I think I would have peed in my pants
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: out of fear.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: I was petrified to walk out of the club.
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: I had an experience like three weeks ago in Minnesota
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: where I was performing and this guy didn't laugh at
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: one thing I said.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: He didn't laugh at any comics.
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: And I was like doing some Jewish material and I
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: looked at him and I'm like, what are you, a Nazi?
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: And he goes, yep. This is a true story. I
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: put a clip on TikTok.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: This just happened.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: I put a clip on TikTok and it went viral
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: and they took it down. i knew they were going
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: to take it down Because he was literally admitted he
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: was a Nazi. I still have the clip.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I'll send it to you.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Like a Nazi in America.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: He's a Nazi. Like a neo-Nazi. He literally said, I
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: am a Nazi. Oh, my God. He said, yep, I'm
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: a Nazi. And I said, I'm actually impressed.
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: I wasn't joking that you're admitting it because most people
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: don't admit it. He was a white guy, you know,
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: just a typical 20-something-year-old white guy.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: 20, wow. I said, I'm impressed you're admitting it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: Like I'm not saying that as a joke because most
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: people would be like, no, I'm not.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: And I said, well, you know, I said, okay, well,
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: I'm Jewish and, you know, I obviously I'm saying that.
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: So you must be like whatever. And he's just keeping
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: a straight face. And I was I wanted to kill him,
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: but I was also petrified, obviously, because he was sitting
- 1:19:40Speaker 6: on the left side and had to walk down the stairs.
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: And I kept having this visual of him jumping up
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: from his seat and attacking me. even though I wanted
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: to kill him. I really wanted to kill him. And
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: so I kept saying stuff to him. I'm like, I
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: wonder why you guys hate us so much. I'm like,
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: I don't know what we ever did besides succeed. I
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: say that on stage sometimes. I'm like, so that must
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: be why. It must bother you a lot that we've
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: just never backed down and never, you know, we just succeeded.
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: We kept succeeding and doing well, that must be really
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: enraging that even after all the people that you've killed
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: and all the people you wanted, we've just kept plugging
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: away and succeeding and doing well. And then I said,
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: and then I was a joke. A joke didn't work
- 1:20:27Speaker 6: or something. I'm like, oh, that joke didn't work. I'm like,
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: will you kill me?
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm serious. Will you kill me? And he goes, no,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: I'm not going to kill you. And I go, what
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: a pussy. It was amazing.
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: I'm like, you're saying you're a Nazi and you won't
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: kill me? I'm like, you're such a pussy. And people
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: were dying laughing and they started clapping. I'm like, you're
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: really a pussy. I'm like, you're a Nazi and you
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: won't kill me.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: Was he like with a girl or anything?
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: He was with guys and his friends were furious with him. Now,
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: people listening might think this is insane what I'm saying.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: But I've been doing comedy for 23 years and I'm
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: burnt out.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I do 15 to 20 shows a week. Right.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I do a lot of stand-up.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: I mean, maybe sometimes 10, but I'm burnt out.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: I'm on the road. I'm in Minnesota at the Mall
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: of America.
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: Oh.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: This is like my fifth show of the weekend.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I did that. I did that. Yeah.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: It's a lot. And this guy's saying he's a Nazi,
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: and I'd had it at this point.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: You know, there is no sales tax, though, if you
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: want to shop after to make yourself feel better.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: I knew there wasn't sales.
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: You're so funny.
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: Okay, go on.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: And I had it. And I, you know, I'm proud
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: of being Jewish.
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: And I was furious and enraged. And I don't take
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: it lightly when someone says, and I don't care. I mean,
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: I knew he wasn't going to attack me. And there
- 1:21:47Speaker 6: was also a huge table of black people that were
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: ready to, I'm not kidding. They were, they're like, we
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: got your back. We are going to, they were screaming out.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Were the security at the club nervous? Because at this
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: point I'd be nervous if I was like the manager
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: of the club.
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: The way I handled it, it's hard to explain because
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: of everything I'm saying. But the way I handled it,
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: it was very funny. It doesn't sound funny the way
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: I'm describing it. People were hysterically laughing. His friends were
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: laughing hysterically. He looked furious, but his friends were dying laughing.
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: The crowd was laughing hysterically. I'm making it sound very serious,
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: but it came off very funny. I was making it funny.
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: And this whole table was ready to pounce him. They
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: were like, we got your back.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: We'll walk you out.
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: He was petrified. He was petrified. But I did have
- 1:22:37Speaker 6: a visual of him jumping me. So I was a
- 1:22:41Speaker 6: little like, just walking off stage, not after the show.
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: But I was like, I wanted to kill him.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: You know, when you say for what succeeding, that is
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: how I remember being very young and my mom explaining
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: like World War II and Nazi Germany. And she said, well,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: you know, they wouldn't let the Jews own property. So
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: they had to use their brains. So they know the
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: best education. So, you know, you want to buy in
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: a neighborhood where there's a lot of Jews because that
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: public school– That's interesting. You know, that like– you know,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I just remember that always being like that. Yeah. The
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: way she would just, we're Catholic, but that's the way
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: she described it too.
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: That's an interesting thing to say because yes, we, education
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: is very important.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: They couldn't be farmers. And that's what she told me.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: I mean, now it's that makes that.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: So they had to be the jewelers, the chemists that,
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: you know, that all those things.
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: That, that's very true. I mean, it's, I think a
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: lot of it is, uh, just envy. Yeah. And, and,
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: you know, it's weird.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I never understood. I never could get it. And even
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: when I found a little bit of prejudice about Jewish people,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: I remember it just shocked me.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: It's bad.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: And I remember like the only time I ever heard
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: it was I was in college and this girl I
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: knew said, how can you, how did you guys handle
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: living in the Valley? And I go, Oh God, Yeah,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: it's 10 degrees hotter than the sea. This is when
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: people were very snobby about the valley. So there were
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: a lot of Newport people and whatever. And I go, oh,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I know it's 10 degrees hotter, but we had a
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: pool and air conditioning. I literally thought that's what she
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: was bringing up. And she goes, no, all the Jews
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: that live there. And I was like, you're joking, right?
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: It had never crossed my mind. I never thought about it.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: And I'm like, she said a little bit more like, yeah,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: we had to move, you know? And I was like,
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I was horrified. And I told people what she said.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Cause I was like, she is a racist. I'm like,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: she is awful. Like, I was like, that is the
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: weirdest thing. I'm like, yeah, we had Jewish neighbors. We
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: had Persian neighbors. We had black neighbors. We had Chinese neighbors. Like,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: I was like, what do you like? I didn't realize
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: like when you grow up in a city with diversity
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: and stuff, that in other places, even if they're homogeneous,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: they can be lovely and open-minded. But in some places,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: they can breed because they don't see anything other than
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: exactly themselves. So then when they see it, they're like,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: it's really sad.
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: Well, it's interesting what you're saying because I experienced that
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: a lot in New York and L.A.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: And Chicago.
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: People go, there's aren't anti-semitic people don't like jews i'm
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: like no you're not understanding like because you're here yeah
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: you think that and i get it it's okay but
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: like i travel all over the.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: Country like people don't.
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: It's okay but like you're here so you don't yes
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: in a lot of places and i'm not even religious
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: i mean i was brought i went to hebrew school
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: i was bat mitzvah but i'm very not religious like
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: i'm not orthodox i'm not conservative there's levels and i'm
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: i'm at the lower, much lower, but I'm very proud
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: to be Jewish. And it's important to me, the cultures,
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: the traditions, and I'm proud of it and I will
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: fight for it. And, and it's, it's, it is extreme,
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: the antisemitism. It's bad right now.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: Like bad. I know.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: It's just, it's just horrific and baffling. Just baffling, really.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I just am like, so bizarre to me, you know,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: but that's crazy. That's, That's very scary. I mean, I,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: you know, I have not had only one time was
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I performing at Atlantis.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh yeah. I've been there.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: Yeah. And I got to perform that. I loved it.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Cause we have these kids and they were younger back then.
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: So I was like, we were all about the water
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: slides and I put it out there and I was
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: performing in this, some guy screamed out, I want to
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: shoot you in the head.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: And I was like, what?
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: You know? And I was like, and I did it
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: right away. And this was like probably seven years ago
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: or something.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: And I was like, that was seven years ago.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: Yeah. And I was like, can you, I don't know,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: like can security, like I did was immediately like security.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: That's, that is amazing.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Yeah. And I don't think he had a gun. I
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: think he was just, like, drunk or something. I mean,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: it is a casino situation. So you get— anytime you're performing— Yeah,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: casinos are real. You're getting a random or a mix.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Or if you're in Vegas, you're getting, like, very international.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: You're getting all kinds of people. When you go to
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: different cities— You know the Chicago crowd is going to
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: kill it. You know this one's going to be a
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: little more like that. And sometimes you sort of– I
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: do a little. You probably don't because you're like, who
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: gives a fuck? But sometimes I know like, oh, this
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: joke will be really well– they'll know I'm on their
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: side with this one.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: I do that everywhere I go.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: And I do it a little bit. I'm like, I
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: don't want them to think I'm this, so I'm going
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: to do this. I do.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: Everywhere I go, I think like that. I don't want
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: to make it harder for myself. Trust me. I'm the
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: same exact way. But if I heard that from a
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: man in the audience, I would– I would freak out. Yeah.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: I would freak out.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: So I don't blame you. That would make me really.
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: That was fine.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Like I'm just, you know, mostly people that go see
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: my shows only once in a while will, you know,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: and sometimes people were like, you know, I've said this
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: a million times, but when people go, I'm going to
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: come see you and I'm dragging my husband. And I
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: said to my audience, stop saying you're dragging your husband
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: because if your husband got you tickets to see Chris Rock,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: you'd get a blowout and be super excited to go.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: So why don't you change the narrative to your husband
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: and be like, you're going to love this girl. We're
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: going to go see. If you love me and you
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: like my sense of humor, you're going to love seeing
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: this funny girl we're going to go see. And so
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: now they do that. And they're like, my husband did
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: love it. And I'm like, you're not helping the cause.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: You're not.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: If you think that men won't like, give him a
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: little more credit. I'm like, because, you know.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: You're so right, Heather. I'm dragging my husband.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: I'm going to force my husband to come see you.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: It's going to be torture, but I'm really going to
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: just make that.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Or they're like, I don't know what to do. None
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: of my girlfriends can go. I'm like, but okay. First
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: of all, you can come along because you'll meet a
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: bunch of people here. But I'm also like, and I
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: don't think my husband will like it or something. And
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: I'm like, you're so worried. that your husband's not going
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: to be 100% pleased for 90 minutes.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I'm like, you've never gone to a sports thing or
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: never been, you've never been at something that your husband's
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: taking you to and not like loved every second. No,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: but you go.
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: I'm so glad that you're saying that.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: That's very important. You're really putting, I'm serious. You're really
- 1:29:45Speaker 6: putting an incredible message out. I'm really, that is so true.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: I do. I look out now and I do see,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: since I've been like sending that message out, I do
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: see a lot more men and even young men and
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: stuff that I'm like, funny is funny. Like, they're not,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: you know, and especially if you, like, tell your husband, like,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: I know you're going to love it. Like, I just
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: think sometimes they're afraid that when they see some of
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: the more, the bigger name female comics, if they catch
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: some of their comic and it's very male bashing. I
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: think that's why a woman goes, oh God, I don't
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: want to bring my husband and have him fucking bitch
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: about it tomorrow. And so then I'm, so then part
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: of me has to be like, listen, I don't male bash.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Like I'm married to one. I'm raising two. Like I
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: understand what we have to deal with in life.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: We deserve a medal, but I'm also not like men
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: are a piece of shit and I'm not going to tell,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: you know, horrific stories, but like, you know, but I'm
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: also like, give the guy a little more credit. He
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: should probably, you know, He'll like it. He'll be fine.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: No, I'm glad you say that.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Because it's true.
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: It's important that you're saying all that. Yeah.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Because so much of that is it, you know, with
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: the female comics and people of all different, you know,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: races and everything where, yes, you might like somebody that
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: is just like you because their life stories and their
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: point of view might be like you. Like a lot
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: of you go to my show a lot of women
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: look like me in the audience it's a similar thing
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: but it doesn't mean that they can't absolutely love the
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: most different person from them too you know so it's
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: like i don't i think sometimes people.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: Get wrapped up in that yeah i think so too
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: yeah like.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: You know it's just comedy like you know it's fun
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: to hear people's different points of view that are different
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: than yours.
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: It really yeah that's it's so it is important yeah
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: And I think people are always surprised at what they
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: think might find funny.
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: So it's a good time to go see comedy. It is. Girl,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: tell everybody where they can follow you, where they can
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: see you, because I know you have a lot of
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: shows and everything.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: I'm on tour. They can go to JessicaKerson.com. It's K-I-R-S-O-N.com.
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: And I'm on TikTok. I post a.
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Lot of those crowd work. Every day I post a
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: crowd work video.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: I love the TikTok.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: TikTok is Jessica Curson. And Instagram is Jesse Curson, J-E-S-S-Y Curson. And, yeah,
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: I have a podcast called Disgusting Hawk, which I do
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: a lot of character stuff on it. And I have
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: people on it all the time, a lot of female comics.
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: I'm always trying to help the female comics because we
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: need all the help we can get. And I just
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: love you. I think you're, you're amazing. You're so real
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: and down to earth. And you know what I want
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: to say, which is really important is you're, you're so,
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: I've always thought this about you. You're so naturally funny.
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: You know, I don't know if people tell you that
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: a lot, but I mean, a lot of comics are funny,
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: but you're very naturally funny.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: Thanks. Like you are. I've always thought that about that,
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: about you.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: I am exactly what I am on stage or on
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: the podcast. I am that normally. So it's like, and
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: that's when you say people go, of course you'd be
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: a comic. One of my friends from childhood and stuff,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: They go, I'll tell my friends, no, she was exactly
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: like that, you know, at the sorority house in high school, whatever.
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: Well, that's why you're successful. Because I think the people
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: that are the most successful are the most real in
- 1:33:09Speaker 6: their art as they are offstage. Like, I think those are,
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: for the most.
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: Part, the most successful.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: Well, that's why I always felt bad for comics that,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: you know, put on a straight persona on stage and
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: had straight stories, but we knew they were gay. Yeah.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: And I was like, that would suck. Yeah. Like, what
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: if I had to get on stage and act like
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: I had a girlfriend? Like, that'd be a hard thing
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: to fake.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's hard. That would be
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: a really hard thing to fake for me to be like, oh,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: so my wife and I are, you know, like, that
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: would be so weird.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: I would assume it would eat you alive. So I
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: feel bad for anybody. It would eat you alive, yeah.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I feel bad. And there's been, you know,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: years and years and years of people that had to
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: do that. I know. I know. So it's like, yeah,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: by birth. When people say what it is, I'm like,
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: just don't think of what is popular. Like, if you
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: see other girls that look like you and they're doing
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: one thing, like being really dirty or whatever, and that's
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: their prerogative. I do that, too. But I'm saying, like.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I always say, what is unique about you? What's your thing?
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: That's what I say.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: You're the only one that has your grandparents. You're the
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: only one that grew up in your house with your
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: family dynamic, with your point of view, with your weird
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: school experience. Those are the jokes no one can steal
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: from you.
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: Totally.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: You have to talk about your own stuff.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: People always get accused of stealing a joke because they're like,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: I have a Tinder joke just like that.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: Fuck yeah, who doesn't? Right. Make it your own. Yeah.
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: You have to. Yeah.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: Also, that's the only way you'll be remembered. I mean,
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: we need to know who you are when you get
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: off stage.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: Who are you?
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: It can't just be your opinion of something. We need
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: to know who you are. I mean, those are really
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: the most successful people.
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Yeah. People want to be friends with you. What's your story?
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: I don't know. That's who I laugh the most at.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Yes, totally.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: People you get to know the most.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Well, I loved having you come out from
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: New York.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: Everyone's going to follow you, have a good time.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: Thank you. Bye.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: Bye.
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: know about the drawer. The drawer. Just the one square
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: before bed. Or two, you know. Nobody's watching. You deserve
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: a treat. With eight flavors to choose from, you can
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: choose the flavor you favor with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
