Latest / The Gospel Briefing / Ambassador Out by Sunrise, Pardons on a Rally Stage
Transcript
- An ambassador is out. By sunrise. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. Kimberly Guilfoyle is no longer the United States Ambassador to Greece. The White House asked for her resignation yesterday. She quit within two hours. The allegations are serious. The Wall Street Journal has reported, over several weeks, that Guilfoyle allegedly threatened a host-country official, accepted improper gifts, and asked a Trump donor to pay a one-hundred-thousand-dollar credit card bill just before her confirmation hearing — promising access to administration officials in return. Guilfoyle denies all of it. She says she will, quote, "vigorously defend" her name and reputation. The State Department's inspector general is reportedly looking into the allegations. President Trump said yesterday, "we didn't like what we were reading." Why it matters now: an ambassadorship is a public trust, and when that trust frays, the questions do not disappear because we dislike them. Secretary Rubio was right last week that reporting is not, quote, "the gospel." Reporting is not gospel. But Scripture is unsparing. First Timothy three says those entrusted with authority must be, quote, "above reproach" — not perfect, but credible. When credibility collapses, the office itself is wounded. Keep First Timothy three open in Bible Copilot as we work through today. Story two. In Wasilla, Alaska last night, President Trump brought two diesel mechanics onstage at a midterm rally and signed pardons in front of the crowd. Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming had pleaded guilty in twenty twenty-two to conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act. Prosecutors said their shop removed emissions equipment on at least thirty-seven diesel vehicles and collected roughly one hundred thousand dollars for the work. Trump called the prosecutions unfair. One of the men said from the stage, "It destroyed friendships. It destroyed families." The pardon power is constitutional. It is also a picture — imperfect — of mercy breaking into judgment. Psalm one hundred thirty says, "If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, who could stand?" Hold both. The law matters. Mercy is a real good. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. Story three. A federal judge has blocked President Trump's ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House grounds. Judge Timothy Kelly — appointed by Trump — ruled the revocation of their press passes likely violated both First and Fifth Amendment rights. Kelly wrote that the president's own public statements suggested he intended to deter reporting he didn't like. Christians are not required to love every outlet. We are required to love the truth. Proverbs twelve says, "Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment." Accountability is deeply biblical. Notice this week who tells you the truth, even when it costs them. This episode is presented by Bible Copilot. Today's verse is Second Corinthians four, verse two. Open Bible Copilot and study the Verse of the Day first — you will get a guided walk through what the passage says, what it means, what it teaches about God, and how to apply it. Second Corinthians four, verse two: "We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God." That verse is the whole episode. Ambassadors, presidents, reporters, you and me. Open statement of the truth. In the sight of God. Thanks for listening. The headlines will keep moving. The call to walk in the light does not. I'll see you tomorrow.
