Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: The terrifying news about Mythos AI
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You heard the news about this AI hacking beast called Mythos.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Is a bit scary, to be honest with you, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: what's reported to have happened with it in the last
- 0:07Speaker 1: seven hours is even scarier. It's basically a big AI
- 0:10Speaker 1: powered cyber hacking machine. It can spot flaws and operating systems,
- 0:14Speaker 1: stuff that we use, email accountcil sorts of stuff. Once
- 0:18Speaker 1: it spots the floors, it could open the back door
- 0:20Speaker 1: for bad people to get in. That's what hacking's about.
- 0:24Speaker 1: In some tests, it is better at doing this than
- 0:27Speaker 1: human hackers. Okay, worrying. Central banks are worried, Retail banks
- 0:32Speaker 1: are worried. Governments are worried, and we should be too.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Even Anthropic, which owns it, is worried. They haven't released
- 0:38Speaker 1: it to the public for this reason. In the wrong hands,
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's that dangerous. But what they did do was release
- 0:45Speaker 1: it to a small little group of companies, including Google,
- 0:48Speaker 1: including Goldman Sacks for testing. Now the problem is Bloomberg
- 0:52Speaker 1: is reporting a small number of unauthorized users have gained
- 0:56Speaker 1: access to it. I know, like ding ding ding ding
- 0:59Speaker 1: alarm belt. Hello, you had one job. Keep this thing
- 1:02Speaker 1: under wraps. If it's as good as they say it is,
- 1:05Speaker 1: then it's bad for the world. It could mean more
- 1:07Speaker 1: of what they call asymmetrical warfare. That's where smaller players
- 1:13Speaker 1: with fewer resources than the big powers are able to
- 1:17Speaker 1: wage war and hold the world to ransom. Think the
- 1:19Speaker 1: Revolution regard their speedboats in the Strait of horll moves
- 1:22Speaker 1: right now in the wrong hands. This thing could do
- 1:25Speaker 1: the same in cyberspace. Hack into hospitals, water, supplies, energy, infrastructure,
- 1:30Speaker 1: all that important stuff that you know keeps society from
- 1:33Speaker 1: falling apart. Quite important. What happens to the world when
- 1:37Speaker 1: you only need a speedboat, a few drones, and you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: ANDAI hacking app on your phone to bring the world
- 1:43Speaker 1: to its knees. It sounds overly dramatic, doesn't it, And
- 1:46Speaker 1: that's because well it is. And like most things on
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Internet, once the horse is out of the stables,
- 1:52Speaker 1: she tends to bolt and run and no one can
- 1:54Speaker 1: ever really catch up. For more from Early Edition with
- 1:58Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge, listen live to News Talks it'd be from
- 2:01Speaker 1: five am weekdays, or follow the podcast on iHeartRadio.
