- 0:00Welcome to Yes and Land, where we say yes to
- 0:04the reality of yesterday and today, and we say
- 0:08and to the possibility, growth, and imagination
- 0:11of tomorrow. Welcome to Yes and Land. We are
- 0:23very excited about our conversation today. We've
- 0:25actually got the hosts of another podcast that
- 0:28we came across that we think really does a great
- 0:31job of putting some great content out there,
- 0:33fun, engaging content. And these are the hosts
- 0:38of Mouse Ears Movie Thoughts. And these three
- 0:42hosts also happen to be siblings, which good
- 0:46for them that they were able to start a podcast
- 0:48with siblings. So they must get along to some
- 0:50degree. So welcome, you guys. Welcome to our
- 0:54podcast. Yeah, thanks for having us. Thank you
- 0:57for having us. This is amazing. Well, so let's
- 1:02start out here real quick. Why don't we start
- 1:05out with a quick introduction of each of you?
- 1:07So just kind of your name. and what role you
- 1:12play in the podcast that you guys do. I know
- 1:15obviously all three of you host the podcast,
- 1:18but I think that you each kind of have some distinct
- 1:20roles or focuses that you have. So names and
- 1:23kind of what your role is with the podcast. Well,
- 1:27my name is Riley, and my role is just kind of
- 1:30like the media person. So I am uploading stuff
- 1:34to Instagram and YouTube and just trying to really
- 1:36get like our name out there and promote us. a
- 1:40lot of images and media yeah fantastic uh i'm
- 1:44caleb and i'm the editor so i'm pretty self -explanatory
- 1:48i just edit all the stuff uh i'll get like audio
- 1:52clips and send them to her if she needs them
- 1:54for marketing something but that's kind of what
- 1:57i do and i'm hannah i really like to say that
- 2:02i'm kind of the manager of it i tend to be the
- 2:04one planning the meetings and making sure we
- 2:08have episode ideas i also do the scheduling coordinating
- 2:12all of our schedules and then putting them in
- 2:15calendars for everyone to do we're i'm also the
- 2:19one uh running the website yeah perfect so i
- 2:26mean as as you can tell there's a lot that goes
- 2:29into a podcast and um you know one of the things
- 2:32that obviously y 'all are doing well is Dividing
- 2:35and conquering, setting up yourself for your
- 2:38strengths. I'm guessing that you each kind of
- 2:40do those things because you've found some degree
- 2:42of strength or inclination towards those things
- 2:45that you can all kind of maximize what you get
- 2:48to do to put on your awesome podcast. So what
- 2:52we're going to do today. Well, actually, sorry,
- 2:55why don't you explain to you what your podcast
- 2:56is? So obviously, I mean, Mouse Deer's Movie
- 2:59Thoughts, that might be self -explanatory, but
- 3:01maybe not. So give us a little bit more about
- 3:05what exactly your podcast is and what you guys
- 3:07talk about. Yeah, so basically we're a Disney
- 3:11podcast, but specifically a Disney movie podcast.
- 3:14We talk all about Disney movies, Pixar movies,
- 3:18Marvel movies. pixar theory and easter eggs we
- 3:22do movie reviews but then we also like to do
- 3:25um like games so trivia and like drafts uh we
- 3:30like to do punishments and rewards with our games
- 3:33and we try to keep it really fun um top 10 or
- 3:37top 5 rankings where we compare to each other
- 3:39and a lot of it is kind of collaborating our
- 3:42ideas about different disney movies and debating
- 3:46different opinions that we have yeah we even
- 3:48do some like themed episodes if it's like near
- 3:51Christmas or I don't know any Thanksgiving you
- 3:55know stuff like that try to do some theme episodes
- 3:57basically we have always loved Disney and we've
- 4:01loved talking about Disney with each other and
- 4:02so we decided to make it a podcast yeah and it's
- 4:06been really really fun and now what started as
- 4:10like a passion project has really become even
- 4:12more than that And it's something that we look
- 4:15forward to every week and something that we're
- 4:18really trying to grow and expand, even if we're
- 4:21still young siblings. Yeah, and y 'all have been
- 4:26doing this for quite a while. Did I get this
- 4:28right that you're more than 160 episodes in?
- 4:31Is that right? Yeah. We've been going since the
- 4:36fall of 22. And of course, we were planning in
- 4:39like the summer of that year. Wow. I didn't know
- 4:42it had been that long. It's been a while. Yeah.
- 4:45That's three and a half, almost four years you've
- 4:47been going. So obviously you're doing something
- 4:50right. And that kind of leads us into really
- 4:53what we're talking about today, which is hopeful
- 4:57resilience. And we're going to be talking about
- 4:59that through the lens of Aladdin, but not just
- 5:02Aladdin. through the live action Aladdin from
- 5:052019, which was just a gem and a movie that y
- 5:09'all selected. So we're going to dive into a
- 5:12little bit of why Aladdin and why the live action
- 5:15over the original animated movie back in the
- 5:20early 90s, long before y 'all were born, but
- 5:23was my growing up, was my childhood. And so it's
- 5:27going to be really fun for us to dive into that.
- 5:30Let's start here. Just in case someone's listening
- 5:33to our Disney podcast that doesn't know Aladdin,
- 5:37which would be wild, but just in case they don't,
- 5:41why don't one of you kind of set the stage for
- 5:43the overarching story of Aladdin? Well, yeah,
- 5:50sure. I mean, Aladdin, to summarize it, it's
- 5:55like the story of this... First of Aladdin, the
- 5:58main character, who kind of comes from a not
- 6:01so great background in terms of like royalty
- 6:04and like possessions and stuff like that. And
- 6:07he kind of gets thrown into this interesting
- 6:09situation of finding a genie that can make his
- 6:13dreams come true. But he kind of has to balance
- 6:16what he truly wants to live with and what he
- 6:21can obtain. But it might be like fake. It might
- 6:24not be actually. real because it's just a wish
- 6:27that the genie granted for him but he kind of
- 6:30has to balance what is actually valuable in life
- 6:32and what's not and then through that you know
- 6:36we get all this comedy and we get Jafar trying
- 6:40to I mean really stop him and get the genie for
- 6:44himself and then Aladdin ends up finding love
- 6:47and finding what he really wants in life and
- 6:50realizes that the love for Jasmine is more important
- 6:55than the wishes themselves and what fake things
- 6:58he could have obtained. Yeah. And maybe a note
- 7:02on why live action specifically. In this version,
- 7:06Jasmine has a bigger role in this hopeful resilience
- 7:10topic that we wanted to talk about. And also,
- 7:13Riley specifically likes the live action Aladdin
- 7:16more than the original. And so we wanted to...
- 7:19It ended up being a really great option because
- 7:22of Jasmine's... pertinence in it and kind of
- 7:25some additions that they added in yeah yeah i
- 7:28mean also um aladdin his whole upbringing is
- 7:32just like keep keep going keep doing what he
- 7:35knows he has to do and what's right even when
- 7:37he's not in the best situations Yeah, for sure.
- 7:42So Riley, I think you just said that Riley, you're
- 7:45the one that preferred the live action version.
- 7:47So we got to dive into why, right? Give us the
- 7:50breakdown, like defend the live action over the
- 7:54classic animated feature. Well, first of all,
- 7:57I think that the soundtrack is better. I mean,
- 7:59there's at least one new song in the live action
- 8:04than the original. It's Speechless. And I love
- 8:08that song. I think it's great. I think it adds
- 8:10to the movie. and I think that I like the live
- 8:15action more honestly because it was just like
- 8:18more in my time and so I think I just have kind
- 8:22of a better nostalgic like relationship with
- 8:26it maybe if that makes sense I just like it a
- 8:30lot better wow yeah I think what's interesting
- 8:34with the additional songs is there's been times
- 8:37when certain movies have been done and have additional
- 8:40songs that I just felt like they were fillers.
- 8:43It felt like the songs were there but didn't
- 8:45do a lot for it. But I agree with you, Riley,
- 8:47which is in this particular one, Jasmine's additional
- 8:50song, I think really brings a bit more heart
- 8:54to the story. I think it really expands a bit
- 8:57more on the understanding of Jasmine as a character
- 9:00and what she's going through and experiencing.
- 9:03That's one of the major differences where there
- 9:06is something to this live -action version, which
- 9:09is seeing more of the character arc and story
- 9:12arc of Jasmine, which you get a glimpse of in
- 9:15the original animated feature, but really more
- 9:16focused on Aladdin and what his journey is. This
- 9:19one, it's bringing in Jasmine, and I think it
- 9:22adds a layer of complexity that I think is really
- 9:26good. I think it just really enhances the story
- 9:29overall. Yeah, I agree. Okay, so let's dive back
- 9:38in a little bit about y 'all's story. So you're
- 9:41three siblings who clearly love Disney, and you
- 9:44guys have been passionate about Disney for a
- 9:46while. What made you decide to go from just three
- 9:50siblings that enjoy Disney, enjoy talking about
- 9:53Disney, to actually starting a podcast and putting
- 9:57your conversations out there for the public to
- 10:00consume? Yeah. Well, I think for a while, each
- 10:05of us separately even wanted to create something
- 10:09and put it out there, whether it was even just
- 10:13a YouTube channel or a podcast. We kind of just
- 10:16wanted to be creative in that way and share that.
- 10:19And nothing was really immediately striking for
- 10:24any of us. I think we all kind of nothing was
- 10:27really filling that as much as we wanted. we
- 10:30never got off to a like strong start and then
- 10:33eventually we like had an aha moment where we
- 10:36realized we love we talk about this with each
- 10:38other every time we watch a disney movie we talk
- 10:41about this with each other for sure every week
- 10:43at least and why not make that a podcast it would
- 10:47be so easy to take our conversations that we
- 10:49already have and put them onto a podcast yeah
- 10:52and share that with everyone else we really enjoy
- 10:54having like passion that imagination and kind
- 10:59of a time to free your mind from any real world
- 11:03stressors and it's still like good thought work
- 11:07and yeah that's something we want to share with
- 11:09everyone else yeah I think it just kind of like
- 11:11it happened I just remember one day you guys
- 11:13going like hey what if we just like start a podcast
- 11:16on this and I'm like yeah sure can we like I
- 11:19guess doesn't cost any money we just need a mic
- 11:21and yeah we started out with a single mic On
- 11:25a very small table that we all were leaning in
- 11:29over and just made it work. And then eventually
- 11:33as our passion and like intensity for it grew,
- 11:35we each got our own mics. And I mean, yeah, it
- 11:39just has really developed and transformed. For
- 11:41sure. Which I love. And I think it ties in really
- 11:47well to something that Aladdin says at the very
- 11:50beginning of the movie. And I'm going to read
- 11:53this this quote and get you guys take on it specifically
- 11:56as it relates to what you guys did initially.
- 11:58So at the very beginning and he's talking about
- 12:05being a street rat and he says, if you don't
- 12:10have anything, you have to act like you own everything.
- 12:14And and so, you know. Talk me through what that
- 12:18means to y 'all when you're starting this podcast
- 12:19and initially you don't have anything. I mean,
- 12:21you've got some ideas, but you actually don't
- 12:23have anything. And what so what did you have
- 12:26at that point in time? What were you betting
- 12:28on that you could build to put out there? Yeah,
- 12:33I mean, I think that that quote really hits home
- 12:36for us in our podcast, especially in the beginning,
- 12:38because like like you were just saying, we don't
- 12:42really have anything, especially when you first
- 12:44start. and but the one thing you do have is your
- 12:48voice and your content and what you're going
- 12:50to talk about and I think that is really what
- 12:53we focused on of like as long as we can have
- 12:55good um good discussions good content and we
- 13:00can just talk and I think that really helps having
- 13:03three siblings is we have three different opinions
- 13:06and we're very close so we can bounce off one
- 13:08another and like really do like a deep dive while
- 13:13adding some laughter and fun into the mix so
- 13:15i would say focusing on the content itself and
- 13:20then you know the the mic and the softwares and
- 13:23like everything builds around that but if we
- 13:26didn't really have anything good to talk about
- 13:28it wouldn't really matter yeah a little bit of
- 13:31our beginning days was like make it till you
- 13:34make it like we don't have anything else but
- 13:37we have ideas and so we're gonna pretend like
- 13:40our quality is our like our mic quality is good
- 13:43when it was it was so hard to work with we're
- 13:47gonna edit things like the night before because
- 13:50we're having problems every time but it's still
- 13:52coming out like no one has to know and then eventually
- 13:55we're not faking it anymore we understand what
- 13:58we're doing we get a week out we know what's
- 14:00expected of us yeah because then before you know
- 14:03it it's just the truth like once you're getting
- 14:06consistent like consistent downloads then you're
- 14:09just going to grow bigger and then we were able
- 14:10to get more mics and now we never looked like
- 14:13we were struggling because now we aren't struggling
- 14:16it's almost funny to look back and think of those
- 14:19days where i mean we keep looking over there
- 14:21because the one mic is sitting in the corner
- 14:23and rejected now but yeah it's just insane to
- 14:27think of where we started with one mic we we
- 14:30really had nothing else like this It's kind of
- 14:33like you have nothing else. All you have is,
- 14:35yeah. It's kind of like a fake it till you make
- 14:37it type of situation. And I mean, don't get me
- 14:39wrong. You can definitely like hear the difference.
- 14:42Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Throughout the podcast. But
- 14:45I mean, even when I remember way back when we
- 14:48were recording our first episodes and we were
- 14:50trying to figure out how long should we make
- 14:52this. And we expected to be like a 20 minute
- 14:55conversation or something. And then we ramble
- 14:57on for like 45 minutes and like. we don't realize
- 15:01how much we have to talk about an offer until
- 15:03we hit record yeah yeah i think that's one of
- 15:09the keys for for people and you know what i think
- 15:11what people listening can take away from that
- 15:13is that it's okay to just start you know y 'all
- 15:17believed in what you could do and one of the
- 15:20things i really heard too that that i think is
- 15:22really important is that you also were just going
- 15:23to have fun like you weren't taking yourselves
- 15:26too seriously you weren't And it sounds like
- 15:29you hopefully weren't overthinking it as well,
- 15:31that you're just getting into it like, hey, we
- 15:32have fun conversations. We enjoy it. We feel
- 15:35like we have something good we can put out there.
- 15:36So we're just going to do it. And when you when
- 15:40you're willing to take those steps, then, yeah,
- 15:43you're going to stumble along the way, but you
- 15:45can learn from it. And, you know, it's it's then
- 15:49you don't have any regrets of not taking that
- 15:51opportunity to try. And then as you go, like
- 15:55you said, now suddenly you've. Your quality is
- 15:58going up. You're suddenly discovering what your
- 16:00voices are. You're discovering that you actually
- 16:02have more to say than maybe you even initially
- 16:05thought. And none of that discovery would have
- 16:08happened if you hadn't been willing to say, hey,
- 16:10look, maybe we don't have anything right now,
- 16:11but we think we do. And we're going to build
- 16:14towards it. So one of the things I wanted to
- 16:16ask you about that I heard in some of the prep
- 16:19that we did, which is that you had numerous difficulties
- 16:23and setbacks along the way. And so maybe talk
- 16:27to us a little bit about like, what were some
- 16:29of those setbacks? What were some of those difficulties
- 16:31that you had along the way? Who wants to start?
- 16:36Start. I think in each of our areas of expertise,
- 16:39we probably had different setbacks. So for, oh
- 16:44boy. So I guess I'll go with, I'll leave editing
- 16:47for Caleb because that's a whole different one.
- 16:49That is. I guess for me, one of the biggest ones
- 16:53we've come into. one of our first biggest problems
- 16:57was running out of our initial episode ideas
- 16:59we didn't know we didn't realize how often we
- 17:03were going to be recording and how much we would
- 17:05have to say and once we kind of ran out of those
- 17:08initial I don't know it was maybe about a year
- 17:11of ideas we really had to like rethink reimagine
- 17:16what we were going to be doing what was the real
- 17:18like purpose of this podcast what did we want
- 17:21to talk about and that did a lot we did I would
- 17:25say that was one of the biggest leaps forward
- 17:27for our podcast. That was when we introduced
- 17:30Marvel, decided we were going to have more of
- 17:33a complete Disney picture. And that was really
- 17:38like a springboard that made us into the podcast
- 17:43that we have today. Because it was almost like
- 17:47we were limiting ourselves without even realizing
- 17:49it. And it took us hitting that wall of... We
- 17:53don't know what we're recording today. Like,
- 17:55we don't have something to put out in two days.
- 17:58So it really took a couple months, maybe, of
- 18:02struggle before we freed up our minds. And it's
- 18:07so much easier for us to come up with conversation
- 18:09topics and everything else. Yeah, for sure. I
- 18:14would say for the editing point of view, at least
- 18:17for me, it was just learning how to edit. I mean,
- 18:20I've never, like... taken a audio editing class
- 18:25or anything so like just watching a lot of videos
- 18:29and editing a lot of episodes and then you know
- 18:33as you get higher up it's like well hey what
- 18:36if we have like some like we create a little
- 18:39intro music little outro and then it's like well
- 18:42hey what if we like cut out that part and add
- 18:44in like a little background music or something
- 18:47and like over time it builds and builds and Yeah,
- 18:51I would say it was a big setback, a big struggle
- 18:54at the beginning of like, I don't even know what
- 18:57app to use. I don't know how to edit this. But
- 19:01then it kind of builds over time. And I would
- 19:03say another thing for you would be the scheduling.
- 19:06Yeah, that was the other thing I was going to
- 19:08say. Having three of us makes it very difficult
- 19:11at times to set up. Yeah, three people who are
- 19:14teenagers and have sports and school. It's almost
- 19:17harder to plan. I guess this is our opinion,
- 19:21but because we don't have regular work hours,
- 19:24there is almost never a time that is, like, completely,
- 19:29everyone is guaranteed to be free every week.
- 19:32So that was hard to find a guaranteed reporting
- 19:34time. And a huge setback was when you went to
- 19:37college. That would be the other one I was going
- 19:39to say. We had to figure out, okay, when is she
- 19:40coming home? Okay, we got to record now. But
- 19:43then we also need to figure out when to edit.
- 19:45And then, like, we just had to get that routine.
- 19:48We... Do you want to go? Well, I was going to
- 19:51say a big thing that we like learn, if not learn,
- 19:55like started doing after that was pre -recording
- 19:59a bunch of stuff. And then I can just edit it
- 20:02whenever and set it to upload on a certain day
- 20:05at a certain time. So we don't have to be confined
- 20:08to doing the same like routine every week so
- 20:11that something comes out. But like if someone
- 20:14has to go on a vacation for school or something
- 20:16like that. then we have an option now where we
- 20:20can still make that work. Yeah. And so much of
- 20:23this is like, we didn't even realize, like with
- 20:26Caleb, when the editing, we didn't realize what
- 20:28editing software we had. And so we like had to
- 20:30discover what we had. We didn't know how many
- 20:32ideas we had. So we had to force ourselves to
- 20:34find them. We didn't even realize that we were
- 20:37still going to be doing the podcast by the time
- 20:39I went to college. And so that was a whole other
- 20:43thing of like, we're at this point and we didn't
- 20:46think we would even still be going. But we want
- 20:48to keep going. Before we jump back in, can I
- 20:51ask you a quick favor? If you're enjoying the
- 20:54journey so far, will you like, rate, and subscribe
- 20:57to our show? It helps us reach more people like
- 21:00you. We can design and create and build the most
- 21:04wonderful place in the world, but it takes people
- 21:06to make the dream a reality. Jumping back into
- 21:11kind of where we were. One of the things that
- 21:15I wanted to ask you all about when it comes to,
- 21:17you know, when you're starting something new,
- 21:20especially creatively, professionally, is I'm
- 21:24going to bring you to another quote from Aladdin.
- 21:26And this is a quote from the genie. And he's
- 21:28talking to Aladdin and he says, I made you look
- 21:33like a prince on the outside, but I didn't change
- 21:36anything on the inside. Prince Ali got you to
- 21:39the door, but Aladdin asked to open it. So I
- 21:43want to get your guys' take on that when we're
- 21:45talking about this idea of hopeful resilience
- 21:48and when you're starting out with something and
- 21:51just having to take a step and a stab at it,
- 21:53even when maybe you don't have it fully developed
- 21:57or don't yet have the confidence to accomplish
- 21:59something. That's a really good quote. And I
- 22:05think that is very much true, like kind of with
- 22:07our podcast, like you can. keep on putting out
- 22:10episodes, especially in the beginning and everything.
- 22:12But there does come to a point where if you want
- 22:14it to get more, you have to do more. And so that's
- 22:17why we started media and, you know, really putting
- 22:20a lot more effort into our editing and stuff.
- 22:22Yeah, I think with anything that you're trying
- 22:24to do, it's really easy to get started and like,
- 22:27you know, make the goals and all these things.
- 22:31But I think it's really hard to consistently
- 22:34keep it going or like Riley was saying, grow
- 22:36and like strive to do better. And I think there's
- 22:40a lot of things where it can, like the quote
- 22:41was saying, get you through the door. But I mean,
- 22:45eventually you kind of got to push hard and make
- 22:47it happen yourself. You can't expect it to just
- 22:50work out for you. You have to put in the effort
- 22:52because nothing comes just easily. Yeah. The
- 22:56hope for resilience ties in of like, you need
- 23:00to get your immediate. enthusiasm and joy can't
- 23:06get you everywhere and you really need to sit
- 23:08down and sit with yourself sit with your friends
- 23:11your siblings your colleagues yes your colleagues
- 23:13to work out how you're going to move forward
- 23:17and you can't just give up at that whatever you
- 23:20did that got you to the door is good but you
- 23:22need to develop almost a new skill set to be
- 23:25able to get through that door yeah i think that's
- 23:28exactly right there's another quote it's a quote
- 23:31from mel robbins She's an author and she's got
- 23:34a really popular podcast. And she said something
- 23:37that I think is exactly in line with this. She
- 23:39said, life is gritty and hard. And then suddenly
- 23:42it is brilliant and amazing. I just love that
- 23:45because there's times where it's just hard. You
- 23:48know, you're just pushing through. You're finding
- 23:49a way to push through. And if you continue to
- 23:53do so, especially if it's something that you
- 23:55believe in. That you'll suddenly turn around
- 23:58and be like, wait a second, I'm actually doing
- 23:59something really great. I'm doing something really
- 24:02brilliant. And it's really fulfilling. And I
- 24:05really love it. And if you stop too soon, you
- 24:10don't get to that point. If you give up too early,
- 24:14you don't push through that grittiness and the
- 24:17difficulty. You never find that brilliance and
- 24:20that amazing that's sometimes just. just around
- 24:23the corner. Uh, it will only push through. So,
- 24:27okay. So one of the things I wanted to get your
- 24:29take on as well as is, I think it was rather
- 24:31that you brought it up at the beginning, which
- 24:32is this idea of hopeful resilience, especially
- 24:34when it comes to Jasmine and the, the nuanced
- 24:38difference here at the live action versus the
- 24:40animated. So maybe talk to us a little bit about
- 24:42what, what did you think of when, when you thought
- 24:46about this topic and y 'all came up with this
- 24:47topic and you thought about Jasmine? I think
- 24:51that you can see, especially in the live action,
- 24:54you can see just like kind of her life and kind
- 24:58of like, I don't know, her personality, maybe
- 25:00a lot more, especially with the song Speechless
- 25:02in the live action. And I think you can just
- 25:05see how like her dad and there's her royal family
- 25:10and everything. And there's that she has to choose
- 25:12between them, but then also Aladdin and like
- 25:15this completely different world. And so you can
- 25:18just. really tell like a lot more into her life
- 25:21and how she has to pursue what she really wants
- 25:24to do yeah and i think uh in the movie when she
- 25:28keeps you know rejecting these princes who are
- 25:32coming from all these other lands and you know
- 25:35she's saying no to them knowing that eventually
- 25:39she either has to marry one of them or she's
- 25:41just going to be living you know in the castle
- 25:44her entire life And so she's rejecting them knowing
- 25:48that she doesn't know what's going to happen
- 25:51in the future. And I think that is kind of the
- 25:53essence of hopeful resilience is keeping going
- 25:58on what you are trying to do, even though you
- 26:01may not know if the outcome is even possible.
- 26:04And then the live action ties into she goes out
- 26:07and gets it herself. And I think that's the whole
- 26:08point of Speechless, her song. It's like she
- 26:12believes in what she's doing and she goes and
- 26:14gets it. Yeah. Nothing's ever going to come or
- 26:17be something if you don't work hard for it or
- 26:20get it yourself. Yeah, this reminds me of a quote
- 26:26as well that I'd written down. This is from a
- 26:28guy named Daniel Pink. And he's another author,
- 26:32public speaker, kind of thought leader out there.
- 26:35And he has this quote, says, asking why can lead
- 26:39to understanding. Asking why not can lead to
- 26:44breakthroughs. And I was recently having a conversation
- 26:47with Bob Weiss, who is the former president of
- 26:50Walt Disney Imagineering. And I asked him what
- 26:52his personal why was. And he said, it's why not?
- 26:55And that was kind of his approach and the creative
- 26:58endeavors. I mean, he's worked on every Disney
- 27:01theme park there is. He headed up a Disney Shanghai,
- 27:04a Disney Tokyo Sea and worked on all the others
- 27:06as well. And I love this idea of why not? And
- 27:09I think that's in part what you're kind of describing
- 27:12here with Jasmine is. And it's, okay, why do
- 27:15I have to go meet with these princes? Why do
- 27:17I have – we have to have this law in place that
- 27:19requires me to marry a prince. Why do I have
- 27:21to do these things? And then suddenly she starts
- 27:23asking herself, why not? Why can't I do it different?
- 27:26Why can't I do something different? Why can't
- 27:29I be the one that breaks this trend of having
- 27:32to follow this ridiculous rule that's in place?
- 27:35And when she does, then suddenly it opens up
- 27:38a world of possibilities for her on things that
- 27:41– maybe others would have assumed wasn't possible.
- 27:46What do y 'all think about that? Yeah, I think
- 27:49a lot of our podcast has been, why not? Why we
- 27:53have an idea and we think, oh, well, that's just
- 27:56an idea. That's just something to throw out there.
- 27:58I really think, why not? Why don't we add YouTube
- 28:03or Instagram? Why don't we add a website? Why
- 28:06don't we include mini episodes, which are just
- 28:0910 to 15 minute episodes? and I think it's just
- 28:13so helpful we we notice a problem and we think
- 28:15gosh it would be so nice if we could solve this
- 28:18problem just by doing this and well why not do
- 28:22that like I think I think that a lot of people
- 28:25when they like think about I don't know doing
- 28:27something new or you know you get into a routine
- 28:30and then they try to overthink that and go like
- 28:35oh but then you know there's all this and this
- 28:37and that that comes with doing that but like
- 28:39just why not just do it like why not yeah and
- 28:44you you don't need to necessarily jump into whatever
- 28:47you want to do and expect yourself to be professional
- 28:51at it immediately but i mean jasmine i don't
- 28:54think knew that eventually this magic guy would
- 28:57come along or that her dad would change the law
- 29:00but like you know she says no she rejects it
- 29:03she knows what she knows is right and what she
- 29:06wants to do even when she doesn't necessarily
- 29:09know what might come of it yeah she kind of sees
- 29:13this third option of well i have to either say
- 29:16like yes or i'm just doomed forever like eventually
- 29:20i need to or else the legacy of the kingdom is
- 29:22never gonna keep going but she kind of sees of
- 29:25well there is a third option it's just not easy
- 29:29it's going to be hard no one is going to appreciate
- 29:32this decision that i'm making but it is still
- 29:35there and that's one of the hardest things about
- 29:37going through with difficult process is realizing
- 29:43those third options and taking advantage of them
- 29:48yeah and like nowadays things that people think
- 29:51are just everyday conventional things at some
- 29:54point someone had to think why not Why don't
- 29:59we have whatever the thing might be? And then
- 30:02someone went out and made it and now it's normal.
- 30:04So I'm like, gotta go do it. Yeah, I think that's
- 30:11right. I mean, I think so many people can adopt
- 30:14that more in their lives, learning the lessons
- 30:17from Jasmine or from Aladdin, from the story
- 30:21that you guys have. And that's one of the great
- 30:22things about Disney movies and storytelling is
- 30:25it helps open our eyes. for the things in our
- 30:28lives if if more people who have let self -doubt
- 30:33and fear hold them back suddenly changed their
- 30:38mindset to say why not to try something different
- 30:43to try something new or to go out for that promotion
- 30:45or try that new side hustle or try that new venture
- 30:49or start their own podcast then suddenly What
- 30:54we start to do is we start to build something
- 30:56much more fulfilling in our life. And, you know,
- 30:59one of the things I was thinking about with this,
- 31:02especially with the three of you together, is
- 31:04doing it as a team. You know, certainly Jasmine
- 31:08had to have that self -belief to try to do something
- 31:13different and more. And also she needed... kind
- 31:16of a team around her, right? Those around who
- 31:19did believe in her so that she could accomplish
- 31:24something different and better. And there's a
- 31:26quote from one of my favorite people, Simon Sinek,
- 31:29and he said, leaps of greatness require the combined
- 31:31problem -solving ability of people who trust
- 31:34each other. So I wonder if you can comment on
- 31:37that about the trust that the three of you have
- 31:39had to have with each other, even if you have
- 31:42disagreements, even if you've had things that
- 31:44are difficult that have allowed you to continue
- 31:47creating this podcast, continue putting it out,
- 31:51continue improving it and making it something
- 31:53really great. What does that look like? How have
- 31:55you built that trust? How have you fostered that
- 31:57trust and work together? Yeah, I think that's
- 32:01something that I mean, Simon Sinek, I've heard
- 32:03a lot of his videos and whatnot in my in college.
- 32:07And I think it is something that we've had to
- 32:10implement a lot, especially in my like role as
- 32:14manager of kind of organizing things, getting
- 32:17people together. It takes a lot of it's hard
- 32:21to find a balance sometimes of trusting your
- 32:24teammates. Yeah, I mean, trusting Caleb, he's
- 32:26gonna edit trusting Riley that she's gonna post.
- 32:29Trusting me that I'm going to let them know what
- 32:32they're doing before the day of, it takes a lot
- 32:35of trust. And I think that's been something that
- 32:37we've navigated throughout the years is finding
- 32:40that balance between each other. Yeah, I think
- 32:47that that is pretty much big. I mean, she basically
- 32:50stole the words out of my mouth. like you said
- 32:53it is it's hard because you want to like like
- 32:56say Caleb I want to like oh remind him okay you
- 32:58got to edit today you know we're uploading tomorrow
- 33:00but I need to trust that like okay he he got
- 33:03he's got that done you know like he's got my
- 33:05back and he has to trust that I'm you know uploading
- 33:08consistently to media and then I have to trust
- 33:11Hannah that you know she's getting our website
- 33:14done and everything there's just so much to trust
- 33:18and specifically with me and Riley you just reminded
- 33:21me of this um I will when I'm editing I will
- 33:25find like time stamps and like audio like clips
- 33:29snippets where we can post them and it'll we
- 33:33have like little audiograms that we'll put up
- 33:34of like clips of our podcast and I will just
- 33:38go in and put the time stamp in like a note for
- 33:41Riley to see And she has to trust that I'll find
- 33:44it and put it in there. But then I also have
- 33:46to trust that she'll make sure that she sees
- 33:49that and goes and puts it up. And sometimes we
- 33:51don't even have to tell each other that it's
- 33:54there. It's just kind of a consistent routine
- 33:56that we trust. As long as everyone's doing our
- 33:58job, everything's run smoothly. And part of that
- 34:01comes from reliance on each other. You kind of
- 34:05develop a trust because you're... You have to
- 34:09put in work yourself because you know that two
- 34:11other people are depending on you and that they're
- 34:14going to be expecting results at the end of the
- 34:17week. And so it's a way of external motivation,
- 34:20but really from yourself too, because you don't
- 34:23want to let down your teammates and you really
- 34:25don't want to let down your siblings. Yeah, and
- 34:28I think part of that is when you have clear goals,
- 34:34clear responsibilities, and the team functions
- 34:38through that clarity, then the trust comes a
- 34:43little bit easier because then it is clear, okay,
- 34:45hey, you know, here, this is when the episode
- 34:50comes. This is when it's edited. This is when
- 34:52we need to have it. This is when it needs to
- 34:54be uploaded. These are the steps that need to
- 34:55be taken. And you can apply that to any project
- 34:57that any team has, you know, in any industry.
- 35:00Whereas if you have clearly defined roles and
- 35:02it's clear about what is expected, then, then,
- 35:06It's clear that the things need to happen. And
- 35:08you do, you have that trust with each other because
- 35:10it's clear. And you also, exactly like you said,
- 35:13you don't want to let down the rest of your team.
- 35:15You know what your job is. And you know that
- 35:17in order for somebody else to complete their
- 35:19job and their portion to bring this greatness
- 35:21and this magic to the table. you have to do your
- 35:24things on the time that you committed um and
- 35:27so that you don't let them down and and that
- 35:30becomes a really helpful way for a team to build
- 35:33that trust is because you do you like you want
- 35:35to support each other you want to make sure you
- 35:36empower the other people on your team to be able
- 35:38to be successful as well and that requires you
- 35:40to do everything that you can do and that you
- 35:42need to do um one more quote i want to take you
- 35:45to before we hit some fun segments here is That's
- 35:49a quote from Jasmine since one of our big topic
- 35:51series, Jasmine, and something that she said
- 35:53really stuck out. And she said, our greatest
- 35:57challenge isn't speaking up against our enemies,
- 36:00but defying those whose approval we seek the
- 36:04most. Isn't that interesting? Let me read it
- 36:06one more time. Our greatest challenge isn't speaking
- 36:09up against our enemies, but defying those whose
- 36:13approval we seek the most. Let's get your take
- 36:17on that. yeah I mean I think it's a lot easier
- 36:21to to speak up and talk to someone who I mean
- 36:24if you're being honest you might not care what
- 36:26they have to say about you or what you say to
- 36:29them because like you know you if you disagree
- 36:31you obviously aren't the the best of friends
- 36:35I would imagine but you probably it's a lot easier
- 36:38to talk to people and stand up to them when you
- 36:41don't care what they think of you yeah when that's
- 36:46something that we've had to work I think that
- 36:50we've built really well actually over the years
- 36:52when we have discussions about okay it's time
- 36:55we gotta make episode ideas or something like
- 36:57that and we have to like present these things
- 37:00to each other over every month or so and it's
- 37:04it's hard but you do need to stand up of I don't
- 37:08think this is gonna work I don't think we're
- 37:10gonna be able to have 30 minutes of conversation
- 37:12or if someone has an episode or an idea for the
- 37:15podcast itself even it's a lot of give and take
- 37:20and there's reminds me of another movie quote
- 37:23but um in harry potter the quote of it's takes
- 37:28a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies
- 37:30but a great deal more courage to stand up to
- 37:32your friends and i think that is something that
- 37:35we've really strengthened i would say that yeah
- 37:37i think it's hard because you You care what they
- 37:40think, you know? Like, you want them to like
- 37:42your idea. I'll be honest, a lot of the episode
- 37:44ideas I throw out there, they get shut down.
- 37:47I don't know about that one. I think so, but
- 37:49just because, like, you can't talk about them
- 37:52for that long, you know? Yeah. Like, oh, sure,
- 37:55yeah, we can talk about that right now for five
- 37:56minutes, but you can't turn it into a full episode.
- 37:59But we can make a mini. And so I think a lot
- 38:01of that is negotiation and compromise and, I
- 38:05don't know, I think a lot of working with each
- 38:06other and being honest. You need honesty if you're
- 38:10going to be a part of a team. You do. And I would
- 38:12say whether you're the one saying something that
- 38:15someone else is saying back at you or if you're
- 38:18the one who's commenting on the original thought,
- 38:22I think you have to be open to the other person
- 38:24might just disagree with you. And you have to
- 38:27be open to the fact that you guys don't have
- 38:30to completely agree and you can still come to
- 38:33a conclusion that's for the betterment of the
- 38:36whole system itself. That is something we really
- 38:38enjoy doing on episodes itself. We just had an
- 38:41episode about live action remake and it was a
- 38:44debate between Caleb and Riley because they have
- 38:48different opinions of what a live action remake
- 38:50should be about and what makes a live action
- 38:53good. And so much of our podcast is debating
- 38:57each other and like having differing opinions.
- 39:00And we all know by this point after years, we
- 39:02know some of our like hottest takes for each
- 39:04of us. And it's really like, a fun center of
- 39:08our podcast. At least for me, I really enjoy
- 39:10when those things come up. I mean, they're bound
- 39:13to be almost every episode. I have a hot take.
- 39:15Riley does have a lot of hot takes. Hot takes
- 39:19are great. I mean, I think at the end of the
- 39:21day, you just, you come together and you realize
- 39:23this isn't like the end of the world. If we disagree
- 39:25on this subject, it's not, you know, it's not
- 39:28going to break any friendships. We're still going
- 39:30to have a good time. Yeah. Yeah. And as you build
- 39:33that team and you have that trust, it, then then
- 39:37somebody's not threatened by somebody else having
- 39:40a different opinion um and and when we can embrace
- 39:44that that somebody else can have a different
- 39:46perspective a different opinion without threatening
- 39:48our you know safety or sense of being because
- 39:51it doesn't because it doesn't have to we don't
- 39:54have to stand in our own way then suddenly we
- 39:56come with better ideas we can come up with greater
- 39:59solutions we can problem solve in a more effective
- 40:02way if we'll do it and not be afraid to put our
- 40:06ideas out there okay so here's what i want to
- 40:09take you to so we do a couple of fun segments
- 40:11towards the end of each episode the first segment
- 40:13is called this or that right classic this or
- 40:16that everybody knows what a this or that is There's
- 40:19no right or wrong answers, but you may have to
- 40:22defend your controversial opinion, especially
- 40:24if it's a hot take. Especially if it's a hot
- 40:28take. Okay, so we'll have each of you answer
- 40:30each one of these, okay? And then we'll have
- 40:32to see if there's any healthy debate about them.
- 40:35Okay, here's the first one. Magic carpet or the
- 40:39genie's lamp? Magic carpet. Magic carpet. What
- 40:47about it? Like you get it. Yeah, you get it.
- 40:51I'm assuming. I'm going to go genius lamp because
- 40:54I'm afraid of heights. Yeah. Okay. That's an
- 40:58acceptable answer. I do think the magic carpet
- 41:00is a fun personality that makes the carpet pretty
- 41:04fun. And it lasts longer. For sure. So, okay.
- 41:09Let's say the Agrabah marketplace or the palace
- 41:13rooftop. Rooftop. Yeah, I think it's got to be
- 41:18rooftop, honestly. Yeah, I go rooftop. Yeah,
- 41:26I think the rooftop's the place to go. Just the
- 41:28views are going to be awesome, and you can see
- 41:29all of Agrabah. I mean, the marketplace is certainly
- 41:32an interesting place. It would be kind of fun
- 41:34to walk around the different shops and stuff
- 41:36there, but it'd be something majestic about the
- 41:39palace rooftop. Okay, here's a tough one. Abu?
- 41:44The monkey or Raja the tiger? A boo. Wow, that
- 41:49was awesome. Are you kidding me? This isn't even
- 41:52a question, guys. I'm going to go with a boo.
- 41:55Just because the convenience of a monkey being
- 41:58on my shoulder I think is a lot easier than a
- 42:00tiger walking into me. But a boo is the start
- 42:05of all Aladdin's problems. And Raja has a lie
- 42:09detector built in. He's pretty awesome. But he's
- 42:12cute and he can climb around. He'll think it's
- 42:14not saying I don't want anything stolen. I don't
- 42:18want anything stolen. But you know, like, convenient.
- 42:22I don't know. I mean, yeah. It's cool to have
- 42:25him on his shoulder. He could be like a security
- 42:27guard for you all. It's cool to have him on his
- 42:30shoulder, but I think I might take Raja. I also
- 42:32just like big animals like that. Yeah. Okay,
- 42:36I like it. See, I was thinking we might have
- 42:38some disagreement about some of these, so I like
- 42:40that one. I like the take on Raja being kind
- 42:42of the built -in lie detector because you're
- 42:44right, that is one of his superpowers, isn't
- 42:46it? Okay, here's another one. Here's the next
- 42:49one. The Prince Ali entrance and song or a whole
- 42:56new world and the carpet ride? I think I know
- 43:02Caleb's because he said he didn't like heights,
- 43:04but we'll see. Yeah. I'm going to go the Prince
- 43:08Ali entrance just because it's just so grand.
- 43:12It's like a Disney parade but with elephants.
- 43:17Okay, it depends on if I'm watching the parade
- 43:20or in the parade. Oh yeah, I don't know. Let's
- 43:23say watching. We'll go watching. Okay, yeah.
- 43:28I think I might have to take the whole new world.
- 43:32Oh boy. It's a good one. I mean, Whole New World's
- 43:36pretty amazing. It is pretty amazing. Yeah, and
- 43:39you get to see, like, everything. Like, oh my
- 43:42gosh. Yeah, okay. I'll do the Whole New World.
- 43:45Yes, good job. Okay, I like it. I like it. Okay,
- 43:50here's the next one. This one might be tough.
- 43:56Will Smith as the genie or Robin Williams as
- 44:01the genie? Oh, this is hard. This is very hard.
- 44:06I almost feel like each one was the perfect genie
- 44:11for the type of Aladdin they were in. I think
- 44:16it's tough because in the Will Smith one, they
- 44:20just have CGI and it's just him flying in blue.
- 44:25I think Robin Williams gives a lot more character
- 44:29to him. Personality? Yeah. But at the same time,
- 44:34that is a tough, tough choice there. I feel like
- 44:38I'm leaning towards Robin Williams, but I might
- 44:41pick Robin Williams. That is really hard. But
- 44:44again, I feel like each one fit the different
- 44:48roles for like a live action versus an animated.
- 44:52Yeah, I agree. I might take the Robin Williams
- 44:55role. Who doesn't love Robin Williams? Yeah.
- 44:59And see, this is one where my age over y 'all
- 45:03is a defining one here, because for me, it's
- 45:06a piece of cake on this one. It's definitely
- 45:07Robin Williams, because I grew up with it. Right.
- 45:11I mean, Robin Williams was the heart and soul
- 45:13of that movie. Absolutely hysterical. I mean,
- 45:16I think the one that I don't know if y 'all have
- 45:18ever seen. Aladdin, the musical, either on Broadway
- 45:25or in the traveling ones. But every time I see
- 45:28a genie on there, they're drawing so much of
- 45:31the Robin Williams humor that just makes it so
- 45:34funny. And I just love it. And it's not that
- 45:36Will Smith is bad, but boy, I love me some Robin
- 45:39Williams genie. He is hilarious. Oh, yeah. It's
- 45:43his own character. He really does steal the show.
- 45:46Yeah. Okay, here's the next one. And I don't
- 45:49know if y 'all are big Disneyland folk or not,
- 45:52but we're going to take a stab at this one, okay?
- 45:55Disneyland or California Adventure? Disneyland
- 45:59for me, personally. Okay, name me some of these
- 46:06California Adventure. Didn't California Adventure
- 46:08just open up like Marvel Campus a few years back?
- 46:12Yep. Really? Oh, gosh. I think I'm up to date
- 46:17on my California Adventure. California Adventure
- 46:20has Cars Land, right? It does, yeah. The Cars
- 46:25ride has Cars Land. It has the Spider -Man ride
- 46:28now. Yeah, California Adventure. I do love me
- 46:32Radiator Springs Racers. Mm -hmm. I think I'll
- 46:38go Disneyland just for the history and nostalgia
- 46:42of it. But they've really been doing some good
- 46:44things to California Adventure. I think I have
- 46:46to go with California Adventure because it has
- 46:47Tower of Terror, right? Or was it? Which is now
- 46:51Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah, Guardians of the
- 46:53Galaxy. I think I have to go with California
- 46:55Adventure. Yeah, Pixar Pier is really great.
- 46:59Yeah, this is a much tougher question than it
- 47:02used to be. It used to be, especially when California
- 47:05Adventure first opened, it was a piece of cake
- 47:07Disneyland. But boy, they have just put out some
- 47:11killer rides and lands at California Adventure
- 47:14because Radiator Springs was not original to
- 47:17California Adventure. That was an addition later
- 47:19on. Tower of Terror was amazing. Love the update
- 47:22with Guardians. They now have the Spider -Man
- 47:24ride in Avengers Campus. I love the re -theme
- 47:27on the roller coaster to the Incredicoaster.
- 47:30Just such a fun re -theme there. I'm probably
- 47:34slanted California Adventure now, which I never
- 47:37would have thought when it first opened. It's
- 47:39so wild, but it is our blast. It almost feels
- 47:43a little traitorous, but it's pretty good. Okay,
- 47:48here's another tough one for you, I think, because
- 47:50y 'all have talked about kind of expanding your
- 47:53podcast into Marvel stuff. So I decided to dive
- 47:55into a little bit of Marvel here. And this one
- 47:57may be a tough one. So Iron Man or Captain America?
- 48:04Iron Man. That is a question. Iron Man. Captain
- 48:09America. Wait, wait, wait. Are we talking about
- 48:11like with the Civil War debate? Like, or just
- 48:14their characters? Just whatever, however you
- 48:17want to take it. Oh, gosh. I'm just going characters.
- 48:21I think I'm going to go Iron Man. Yeah, I think
- 48:23it's Iron Man. Oh, my gosh. I think that his
- 48:26character arc is just insane. Okay, sure. The
- 48:29first time I'm ever agreeing with Caleb. I do
- 48:34think he has a great arc. Although I can respect
- 48:38Captain America for what he believes in. Yeah.
- 48:42He's just so consistent. But I could see if you
- 48:47liked Iron Man's arc, that would be a difference.
- 48:49I mean, he did make the ultimate sacrifice at
- 48:51the end of his nap. He did. I mean, yeah. Yeah,
- 48:57I think I have to go with Iron Man. Yeah, me
- 48:58too. Iron Man's kind of funny because he's so,
- 49:02like, doesn't care. Yeah, he doesn't really care.
- 49:06Yeah. So we have, did I hear two Iron Mans? yes
- 49:13yeah yeah and then that one captain america i
- 49:17think so yeah okay okay see i knew that was going
- 49:20to be a tough one uh because honestly they're
- 49:23both so great i mean honestly they're they're
- 49:25just two absolutely fantastic characters i i
- 49:28have to go iron man for me i uh enjoyed marvel
- 49:32before the first iron man it wasn't that i didn't
- 49:34love like them but i didn't love it i didn't
- 49:37yeah i kind of knew spider -man but i didn't
- 49:39really know much beyond that and then suddenly
- 49:41once iron man the first one came out oh i was
- 49:44all in on marvel and just love iron man from
- 49:48that time going forward um I do think Captain
- 49:52America is a real close, close call there, but
- 49:55there's something about Iron Man that was pretty
- 49:57fantastic. And you're right, made the ultimate
- 49:59sacrifice at the end, right? It's a good call.
- 50:02Yeah, I might be convinced. I think even the
- 50:05other, what you're saying about his movies specifically,
- 50:08I think his movies are more like consistently
- 50:13have everything I want with like the humor and
- 50:15action. I feel like Captain America movies, Captain
- 50:19America movies are more like, It's not all at
- 50:21once funny and action. But, I mean, Pepper Potts
- 50:25even in Captain America. Iron Man. Oh, boy. Yeah,
- 50:31I think I'll be convinced by that. Yeah, Pepper
- 50:34Potts is pretty awesome. Okay, here's our rapid
- 50:37fire. So we're just going to run one right after
- 50:40the other and get you all's answer on each of
- 50:43these, okay? You ready for this? Yep. Okay, here
- 50:46it is. Favorite Disney movie. Tangled, live action,
- 50:53live. Okay, all three different. I love it. Favorite
- 50:57Disney song? Oh. Yikes. I just can't wait to
- 51:03begin. Makes sense, because Lion King. That's
- 51:08a tough question. That is an insane question.
- 51:12One Jump Ahead. Oh, that is so good. I don't
- 51:21even know if I have one. We'll say if we're going
- 51:25from my movie. I might do The Circle of Life.
- 51:30I don't know. Same movie? Well, I love the movie.
- 51:34All right. I don't know. We'll do just I See
- 51:39the Light. that's a good one that's good it is
- 51:42a good one and entangled i think was a little
- 51:44underrated when it first came out uh you know
- 51:46interesting about lion king i know this is a
- 51:47rapid fire but i gotta go off on the side i love
- 51:49lin -manuel miranda like he's just one of my
- 51:51favorites and i remember when mufasa was coming
- 51:54out and he was talking about lion king and and
- 51:56he referenced lion king being a soundtrack that
- 51:59was a no skips soundtrack like every single song
- 52:03on lion king is terrific And so I totally get
- 52:06why you're like one and then the other, because
- 52:09like, oh, everyone, you just can't skip. You
- 52:11have to listen to every single song on that soundtrack
- 52:12in Lion King because it's so good. Okay, Lin
- 52:15-Manuel Miranda. I do want to pick one from Encanto,
- 52:18but I kind of can't pick right now. I mean, that's
- 52:22probably where I'd go. Encanto is actually my
- 52:23favorite Disney movie. Um, and, but which, which
- 52:27song you go with in that movie is really hard
- 52:29because I think the scale of the initial song,
- 52:33Family Madrigal, where he finds what introduced
- 52:35every single character and what all of their
- 52:37things are is just such a clever song. But we
- 52:40don't talk about Bruno was like, I mean, it was
- 52:42the number one song on the charts across the
- 52:44country, right? Like amazing. Then you had Dos
- 52:46Oroguitas, which is this sweet song that like.
- 52:50Yeah, that's my favorite movie, y 'all. That's
- 52:52my favorite. I love all those songs, so they're
- 52:54all great. Hannah loves that movie. I really
- 52:57love that. Well, Hannah, you and I were right
- 53:00there. Girl, I got it. That's a great movie.
- 53:03My favorite movie. I love it. Okay, favorite
- 53:07Disney princess. I wanted to say Moana, but she's
- 53:12not a princess. Is she not? Nah, she counts.
- 53:16Really? She counts. Okay. Moana. For a while,
- 53:23it was Jasmine, but I think now... Oh my gosh,
- 53:25I forgot about Jasmine. I think now it'll probably
- 53:27be Rapunzel. I think I'm going to go with The
- 53:29Little Mermaid. It's still Moana. Moana is pretty
- 53:33good. Moana is really good, actually. When you
- 53:39bring up Moana about being a princess or not,
- 53:41isn't it in that movie? Doesn't Maui call her
- 53:45a princess? He's like, I'm not. And he's like,
- 53:47no, you are. You have a sidekick. Like, you're
- 53:50a princess. Yeah, I agree with Maui. I think
- 53:55she's a princess. Okay, how about favorite Disney
- 53:58villain? Scar. Yeah, I hate to go from the same
- 54:04movie, but Scar. Oh, interesting. Scar's a great
- 54:08villain. Yeah, he is. I was going to go Ursula
- 54:11or Scar. Yeah, Ursula. Ursula would be another
- 54:13good one. How about Ursula? So we got Ursula,
- 54:17we got Scar, and then what is another one? Scar.
- 54:21Oh, we got two Scars. Okay. Well, you guys are
- 54:24going all in on Scar. Be Prepared, great song.
- 54:26Again, back to the no skips. Be Prepared is a
- 54:28great song, but also Poor Unfortunate Souls is
- 54:31also a great villain song. Terrific. Those are
- 54:36really high in my list. Just for sake of a different
- 54:39one, I also really like Hades from Hercules.
- 54:42I think he's funny. I think he's a good time.
- 54:45Hades is a good villain. Okay, how about we'll
- 54:49end with this on the rapid fire. Favorite food
- 54:54at Disneyland or California Adventure, in case
- 54:57maybe. The funnel cakes are so good. Well, the
- 55:00churros. The churros. The churros are really
- 55:04good. The churros are really good. Yeah, Cars
- 55:05Land churros. I haven't been in so long on Main
- 55:10Street. Do we get two churros? All the bakeries
- 55:11have, oh, yeah. I'm going to do the funnel cake.
- 55:19Yeah. Funnel cake, okay. Those are good. I'm
- 55:23a churro guy. The churros there are just like,
- 55:26I don't know. Nobody does a churro like Disneyland.
- 55:28They're just so good. I love the churros. Okay,
- 55:32so what we like to do at the end of every episode
- 55:36is we like to give our audience three actionable
- 55:40takeaways. In other words, three things that
- 55:43we recommend that they could put into effect
- 55:45in their lives today or this week. And in this
- 55:50case, on that topic of the hopeful resilience,
- 55:53finding a little bit more of that hopeful resilience
- 55:55in their lives. What are three specific suggestions
- 56:01you all would have that somebody could do to
- 56:04have more hopeful resilience in their life starting
- 56:07this week? Yeah, one that I have, and I think
- 56:11all of ours are kind of habits, but definitely
- 56:13something you should start now. Continually make
- 56:16achievable goals, but never a final goal. I would
- 56:20say this week, make a goal list maybe for your
- 56:25next year of whatever project it is. and kind
- 56:27of think of think of what is actually achievable
- 56:31think of where you'll be in the next quarter
- 56:34the next three months the next six months and
- 56:36the next year but don't think of that as the
- 56:38end of your whatever in our case the podcast
- 56:42like you shouldn't ever think of your goals as
- 56:44a capstone so put a goal but never make like
- 56:49okay this is where we want to be in five years.
- 56:53I think if you do a five -year goal, it should
- 56:55be more general. I would be very wary of placing
- 56:59that much precision in a goal that far out. It
- 57:02could just, you feel limited yourself and you
- 57:05shouldn't feel that. You should bring yourself
- 57:08up. Yeah. I think, you know, what's interesting
- 57:10is for somebody so young, that's actually very
- 57:12insightful. um because i've heard a lot on this
- 57:15recently you know traditionally in the business
- 57:18world in the corporate world it's you know you
- 57:20set your 10 -year plan your five -year plan your
- 57:22three -year plan and then you work from there
- 57:23and and i think what a lot of research is showing
- 57:27is that you just have no idea where you're actually
- 57:29going to be in five years or even three years
- 57:32that being a little bit more generic and you
- 57:34could have it be a big goal, but a little bit
- 57:36more generic that far out actually can be helpful.
- 57:38And you're dialing down on the specifics in your
- 57:41quarterly goals and in your annual goal. So it's
- 57:43actually really insightful. I really liked that
- 57:44one. So excellent. So we've got a great actual
- 57:48takeaway there of, of kind of setting those goals
- 57:49and kind of those, those dialing in those quarterly
- 57:52goals three, you know, a three month and 90 day
- 57:57kind of period. Excellent. What else? Well, I
- 58:01would say, Whatever you're doing, whatever you're
- 58:04striving for, whatever your hobby is, write down
- 58:07your milestones, whether they're big or small.
- 58:10Write them down so that you can, one, see how
- 58:12far you've come for motivation to keep going,
- 58:15and also to track your growth, to see how you're
- 58:18doing throughout your time. Because I think it's
- 58:21really easy to, kind of like how we've been talking
- 58:23in this episode, just start something, but not
- 58:26really go through with it, or to lose the passion
- 58:29as you continue on with it. And I think writing
- 58:32down those milestones of whatever you're doing
- 58:35really helps you with seeing where you've come
- 58:38to kind of convince yourself that you actually
- 58:41are getting better and growing at whatever you're
- 58:43trying to do. But it also really motivates you
- 58:46to continue on with the goal. And write the date
- 58:48with those milestones so you can really see how
- 58:51fast you're progressing and how far. Yeah. It's
- 58:56an excellent one as well. I mean, what they say
- 58:59is that what you measure, you can improve. And
- 59:02so if you don't have them written down, you have
- 59:05no measurement against which to compare it in
- 59:08the future. So it's hard to track whether or
- 59:11not you've grown or you've made improvements.
- 59:12But by writing those goals down and then reviewing
- 59:15those goals when those time periods come, then
- 59:18you can see, okay, where did I come? Where did
- 59:21I fall short? What can I do to improve on? the
- 59:24the next goals that i set so it's an excellent
- 59:26one perfect okay how about number three so for
- 59:33this one i would say don't be afraid of reimagining
- 59:36your process when things don't go as planned
- 59:38instead use those challenges to re -innovate
- 59:41new pathways don't just dig deeper to strengthen
- 59:43a new one so like say you get a challenge you
- 59:47know or setback like we were talking about earlier
- 59:48in this episode don't like use that as something
- 59:51that like oh man that like that stinks you know
- 59:54don't let that tear you down but instead use
- 59:56that as like almost advice like hey this is what
- 59:59you can work on okay now we're gonna you know
- 1:00:02change this and change that and make it better
- 1:00:04and obviously this might not be having a difficulty
- 1:00:08but this week you can still to have a contingency
- 1:00:12plan or whatever it is um usually our contingency
- 1:00:16plans revolve around who's going to edit Riley
- 1:00:19and I ended up learning a little bit ago how
- 1:00:21to do the baseline bare bones of editing as a
- 1:00:24contingency plan for when Caleb can't do it.
- 1:00:26And so I think having a contingency plan and
- 1:00:29then, yeah, when something goes bad, think of
- 1:00:31three out of the box ways, kind of those why
- 1:00:35nots that we were talking about earlier. Why
- 1:00:37not? Why can't you do something else to overcome
- 1:00:40this problem? It was exactly what came to my
- 1:00:43head when you said that. was the why not so that's
- 1:00:45perfect i love that you you wrecked it right
- 1:00:47into that because that's that can really you
- 1:00:49know expand what the possibilities are so we
- 1:00:51don't get too stuck in a rut um and we can think
- 1:00:54beyond that and really open up the world of possibilities
- 1:00:58well you know thank you so much those are some
- 1:01:01fantastic um actionable takeaways that people
- 1:01:04can really put into effect in their lives to
- 1:01:06to help, you know, really bring a greater degree
- 1:01:08of happiness, of joy, of fulfillment through
- 1:01:11this hopeful resilience as we push past struggles,
- 1:01:14as we find hope in the things that we're doing
- 1:01:17in building for a great future for ourselves
- 1:01:21and for others. Been an absolute pleasure speaking
- 1:01:23with the three of you today on the challenges
- 1:01:27you faced, the resilience you've had as you've
- 1:01:29built a wonderful podcast and stuck with it for
- 1:01:34a substantial period of time, which is so impressive.
- 1:01:37And it's also so impressive that you've done
- 1:01:38so at a young age. And I think it just goes to
- 1:01:41show that, you know, regardless of somebody's
- 1:01:43age or background, that there's so many things
- 1:01:46we can learn from others. And so I appreciate
- 1:01:49the willingness that the three of you had to
- 1:01:51share your story, to share your experiences with
- 1:01:54our audience. I'm better off for it. I know that
- 1:01:57our audience will be better off for it. So really
- 1:02:00appreciate your time that the three of you took
- 1:02:01to be on with us today. Yeah, thank you for having
- 1:02:05us. Yeah, it's our pleasure. We really enjoy
- 1:02:08getting this chance to share our story and tell
- 1:02:11everyone more about us aside that they don't
- 1:02:12get to see on the, or hear on our podcast. Yeah,
- 1:02:15I don't even think the people who listen to our
- 1:02:16podcast are getting this much in -depth on us.
- 1:02:19As you lead this conversation, remember that
- 1:02:22yes, the past can hurt and you can either run
- 1:02:25from it or you can learn from it. So here's to
- 1:02:28learning and finding joy in the journey. See
- 1:02:32you real soon.
