- 1:18Hey everyone, thank you for tuning in to MBR today as we pay
- 1:21tribute to Master Sergeant Angelo Joseph AJ McKenna, the
- 1:25third known across the Special Forces community by a call sign
- 1:28that carried weight, anarchy. Master Sir Lapena was born on
- 1:32May 19th, 1975 in Middleboro, MA to Angelo J Lapena, the second
- 1:38and Patricia Lapena. He grew up in Middleboro, a
- 1:41hometown that shaped his values, his toughness, his unwavering
- 1:45commitment to service. He graduated from Middleboro
- 1:48High School in 1993, already showing the grit and drive that
- 1:52would define his life. At 17, AJ enlisted in the Army
- 1:56in 1992, beginning a journey you have the courage to take.
- 2:00He trained as a 95B Military Police, serving with the 972nd
- 2:05Military Police Company and deploying in support of
- 2:08Operation Enduring Freedom. But AJ was in belt to stop at
- 2:12the baseline. Lawyers like him rarely do.
- 2:14He earned the Green Beret, becoming a Special Forces
- 2:17communications Sergeant, the Special Operations terminal
- 2:21attack controller, and ultimately a Special Forces team
- 2:25Sergeant. Three combat deployments.
- 2:27Countless missions. The reputation forged in the
- 2:30harshest environments on earth. That call sign anarchy.
- 2:34It wasn't chaos. It wasn't disorder.
- 2:37It was the reminder that when the world fell apart, he was the
- 2:40one who stepped forward. He was the calm inside the
- 2:43storm. He was the leader who brought
- 2:45order to the fight. After retiring from Special
- 2:48Forces, AJ continued serving, this time in his hometown,
- 2:52rising through the ranks of the Middleboro Police Department,
- 2:55eventually becoming Lieutenant. Even out of uniform, he remained
- 2:59exactly what he had always been, a protector, a mentor, and a man
- 3:04who never stopped giving back. But even warriors face battles
- 3:08they never expected. April of 2021, Master Sarn
- 3:11Lapena was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic head and neck
- 3:15cancer. He underwent a neck dissection
- 3:18to remove 38 lymph nodes, followed by rounds of
- 3:21chemotherapy and radiation. IN2022A nodule was found on his
- 3:25right lung and a biopsy confirmed that the cancer had
- 3:29spread to his right lower lobe. He fought A courageous battle
- 3:32with cancer in a fight that demanded every ounce of his
- 3:35strength that he had spent a lifetime building.
- 3:38He faced it in the same way he faced every mission, with quiet
- 3:41professionalism, unbreakable resolve, and a refusal to let
- 3:45the people around him lose hope. His two year battle was hard,
- 3:49but he carried the weight with the dignity of a man that had
- 3:51spent his life protecting others.
- 3:54On October 1st, 2023, at the age of 48, Master Sergeant Lapena
- 3:59completed his final March. His fasting was a result of
- 4:02complications from cancer, a battle he fought with the same
- 4:06warrior spirit that defined his entire life.
- 4:09He now rests at the Massachusetts National Cemetery
- 4:12in Bourne. Laid among pros.
- 4:15AJ is survived by his wife Tracy, his children Peyton,
- 4:19Haley and Cassandra, his parents Angelo and Patricia, his sister
- 4:24Jodi, extended family, and his brothers and sisters in arms.
- 4:28The soldiers he trained, the teammates he led, the warriors
- 4:31who trusted him with their lives.
- 4:33Those bonds don't fade. They don't break.
- 4:36They live on. And every mission completed,
- 4:39every lesson passed down. And every soldier who carries
- 4:43his example forward. We here at MBR would like to
- 4:47thank you. Master Sergeant Angelo, AJ
- 4:50Lapena, call sign anarchy. Your legacy is carved into the
- 4:54fabric of the American fighting force.
- 4:56You live the warrior ethos, you embodied quiet professionalism,
- 5:01and you left behind a standard that will outlast all of us.
- 5:04Our prayers are with your family, friends, and those who
- 5:07served alongside you. We honor your service.
- 5:10We speak your name. We remember your sacrifice.
