- 0:17Laugh with us, argue with us, or just wonder what the hell did I
- 0:21just listen to. New episodes come out weekly
- 0:24here. Chaos is guaranteed.
- 0:28Well, here we are. This is this is our first time
- 0:32talking to ACEO of a clothing company.
- 0:35Yeah. So I wouldn't quite say CEO yet,
- 0:39no, I'm the son, so. Oh, there you go.
- 0:41Very cool. That's all right.
- 0:42So your parents founded the company then?
- 0:44Yeah, yeah, in 1995. Very cool.
- 0:47Yeah, I saw you guys are just celebrating 30 years now, right?
- 0:49Yep. Yep, Yeah.
- 0:51Hey here. This year, 30.
- 0:52Years. That's awesome, man.
- 0:54Well, I just want to start off by saying thank you guys for
- 0:57sending us some. Shirts we got some swag on.
- 0:59Yeah, yeah, these are. These are awesome, man.
- 1:01Oh, cool. I love them.
- 1:02Glad you guys like them. Yeah, I like.
- 1:04Well, what I like is the cuffs are tight, so I can't just slip
- 1:08my hand through. I actually have to unbutton it
- 1:10and put it on, and they don't fall over my hands, you know
- 1:13what I mean? I could like if I'm on the dance
- 1:16floor or something. I was going to say, don't act
- 1:17like you're going to rope. No.
- 1:20Very cool. So tell us a little bit about
- 1:22how you know your parents got this thing rolling.
- 1:24First off, first and last name. Ransom Gomez.
- 1:28OK. Well, welcome, Ransom.
- 1:29We're glad to have you out. Thank you.
- 1:31Yeah. Yeah, it kind of.
- 1:33Try try to put the mic up a little closer to your mouth.
- 1:35Yeah, there you go. Yep.
- 1:37Yeah, I kind of just started my dad, actually.
- 1:40We're big ropers, OK? And my dad started off making a
- 1:43roping glove. Oh, excellent it.
- 1:45Was a special kind of glove that's made out of leather.
- 1:47This is different than all the cotton ones.
- 1:49And he started with that and then he slowly started making
- 1:52T-shirts and then he made hoodies and he made ball caps
- 1:56and then he really got into kids Western wear because it's kind
- 1:59of our niche and not everyone was doing it.
- 2:03Then just slowly just grew and grew and grew.
- 2:05And now we're in all those big stores and kids are definitely
- 2:10our number one, but we make a whole lot of adults and we're in
- 2:13all the big stores now. Yeah, that's cool.
- 2:16Now you guys are local, right? You guys are local Arizona,
- 2:18Yeah. We're local in Cape Creek,
- 2:20Arizona, and then, yeah, we're in all the big stores, Big Barn,
- 2:24Cavender's Cow Ranch. Yeah, Why did your dad want to
- 2:27make a glove? What?
- 2:28What was the? Well, he's been an entrepreneur
- 2:31all his life. He's he loves roping and he grew
- 2:35up in Cape Creek with all horses and this whole family grew up on
- 2:40a little ranch and he just wanted to be a part of the
- 2:46industry and he just made it his own and kept on going.
- 2:50So you grew up in this, right? This is this has been your life
- 2:54forever. Yeah, That's very cool.
- 2:56So we, we talk quite a bit. So we've we just moved out here
- 3:00about a year and a half ago, right.
- 3:01My wife's dream has always been to have horses and get involved.
- 3:04And then they moved out of here a couple years ago.
- 3:06So he's raising his kids like this.
- 3:08So knowing that you kind of grew up in this, what was it like
- 3:11growing up Western for you? Oh, it's, it's great.
- 3:14You're outside a lot and you get to do all the stuff outside and
- 3:17hang out with all the animals and horses.
- 3:19You build bonds with them and it just, it's a different type of
- 3:23lifestyle for sure. Like my friends who were not
- 3:27Cowboys or didn't grow up Western because I grew up kind
- 3:29of in the city, but we still had horses.
- 3:31We still have 3 acres and none of my friends had animals.
- 3:34So they got to kind of experience it when they come
- 3:36over to my house and they'd have sleepover on Friday nights and
- 3:40my dad would wake us all up at 6:00 and.
- 3:42Got to go to work. Chores for 5-5 hours.
- 3:44Yeah, Yeah. And they didn't mind it.
- 3:46That's how I knew they were good.
- 3:47That's how I knew they were strong friends.
- 3:48And that's awesome. That's still.
- 3:50Friends within the day. That's awesome.
- 3:52And they probably, and they probably got to like, you know,
- 3:55maybe ride and Oh yeah, for sure.
- 3:56I take them on rides. They all, they all have basics
- 3:59down, they can do a lot of stuff and they love going on trail
- 4:01rides and everything. That's awesome.
- 4:03So are you guys all still competing and roping then?
- 4:05Oh yes Sir. Yeah, I just practiced the other
- 4:08day. I am roping in the Ariat World
- 4:11Series. Oh wow.
- 4:12In Las Vegas and my dad's roping.
- 4:15I think he is 6 teams this year. But I'll be running the booths
- 4:19that we have at the NFR. Oh, very cool.
- 4:22I'm sure we'll see you there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:24We plan on going out there. It'll be the well we are
- 4:26actually going. There for Cowboy Christmas.
- 4:27We'll be there week one, yeah. Oh, cool.
- 4:29Yeah. Yeah, there's four.
- 4:31Yeah. Are you guys going to go to all
- 4:32the conventions? So we got a, we got a hotel at
- 4:37or our room is what is it Hotel dot Horseshoe.
- 4:43Oh, that's right, the. Horseshoe.
- 4:44So I think they got the Roper convention down there.
- 4:47So we'll be going there obviously.
- 4:48Yeah, it just moved there. It used to be at the Mandalay
- 4:50Bay, but. Now it's at the horseshoe.
- 4:52Yeah, we have a booth there. We have a booth there.
- 4:54Rio. South Point and the.
- 4:55Convention awesome, man. What about Rio?
- 4:57Yeah, yeah, he's gonna be at Rio.
- 4:58Yeah, we'll be. At Rio for sure.
- 5:00OK, that's where they did the big boot, the cheap boots.
- 5:03Yeah, where they gave it away, gave.
- 5:06They were like 10 bucks or something like.
- 5:08Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, those were the worst damn
- 5:10boots I ever bought, right? I brought them home and I think
- 5:12I gave them to your son. Yeah, they like that for a
- 5:15reason, huh? You're right.
- 5:17That's awesome. So tell us.
- 5:19What started like cowboy hardware?
- 5:21What does that mean? So obviously it started out as a
- 5:25glove company, so it was more of a hardware company, but we've
- 5:28gone around that and we've stuck with the name.
- 5:30So because when you look up the name hardware, it says
- 5:34equipment, so close our equipment.
- 5:36So that's what we use it for. And it's really just the name my
- 5:39dad picked and he stuck with it. There was actually a couple
- 5:42years in the early 2000s, after I was born where he actually
- 5:47sold the company Calgary Hardware, and then the guy
- 5:50couldn't handle it, so he sold it back to my dad.
- 5:52But within that two year or a year period, he started another
- 5:55company, clothing company called Ransom Ranch.
- 5:58OK, Yeah. So.
- 5:59We have some shirts leftover from that.
- 6:01But then he came back to Cowboy. Hardware.
- 6:03Very cool. Nice.
- 6:04And now he's all in on cowboy hardware.
- 6:05The Ransom Ranch is done. What's what's like your dad's
- 6:08background? Like, I mean, he, you said he
- 6:12was like an entrepreneur, but like before all that like.
- 6:15Oh yeah, he, he grew up. He has four other five other
- 6:19siblings. He's one of six and he's the
- 6:22second youngest. So he's got four older brothers.
- 6:24He's got an older sister and a younger sister.
- 6:27And they grew up on my grandma's property.
- 6:29It's 5 acres in Cave Creek. And they grew up in a trailer.
- 6:33They all shared a trailer together.
- 6:35And then some of my dad's other brothers, my uncles got into
- 6:40construction. They kind of learn how to do
- 6:41that and then they all work together.
- 6:43Their neighbors, their best friends came over.
- 6:45They built my grandma's house that she still lives in today.
- 6:49And then they were all able to kind of move into that.
- 6:51But by that time, my dad was going to college at ASU.
- 6:54Then he was still working at a restaurant up there that's no
- 6:57longer there. It's called the Pinnacle Peak
- 6:59Patio. It was great.
- 7:01It was awesome. Everyone knew everyone, but all
- 7:03my brothers, my dad's uncles, and they all worked there.
- 7:08And then he graduated college. He met my, my mom was actually
- 7:14his high school sweetheart. So they, they're still together
- 7:17and they grew the company together.
- 7:20They, my sister, who's 10 years older than me, used to go to the
- 7:23shows with them. And then I also experienced this
- 7:25when we would sleep underneath our tables at the booth and we
- 7:29were there at all the shows with them and.
- 7:31So he has put in a lot of work then?
- 7:32Oh, yeah, he, he, he took put everything aside.
- 7:36That's what he he grinded for it for sure.
- 7:38That's awesome, yeah. It takes a lot to build an
- 7:41apparel company. I mean, we, we attempted to do
- 7:43it back in 2020. So to see what you guys have
- 7:45been able to accomplish is awesome.
- 7:47Yeah. So tell me, you said it's more
- 7:50you guys obviously do it for adults and stuff like that, but
- 7:52the the direction is, is towards kids, right?
- 7:56Yeah, it's, I mean every company you got to start with the youth
- 7:59in the. It's just so cool building a
- 8:02loyal customer from the ground up.
- 8:04And we got these, this kid named Stockton Caswell, he's our
- 8:07sponsor, he's our one of our athletes.
- 8:09And he's, I've known him since he was born and we grew up
- 8:13together. And you just see him, he gets to
- 8:15change the different types of clothes he gets to wear and size
- 8:18as he grows. And then he's going to be your
- 8:20sponsor for a long time. So yeah, it's just great.
- 8:23And that's just really is our niche, our niche.
- 8:25But like in Boot Barn, we sell more adults than anything and a
- 8:30lot of big stuff there. Yeah, my daughter's been working
- 8:33at Boot Barn for four years, and when I told her you know who was
- 8:35coming out, she instantly knew the brand.
- 8:37And she's like, we sell a ton of their stuff.
- 8:39Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 8:40We love Boot Barn. Yeah.
- 8:41Are you are you guys just in Boot Barn in Arizona or are you
- 8:44guys outside of? Arizona Boot Barn has about, I
- 8:47think they probably have more now, but they do have 400
- 8:49stores. They probably have more but no
- 8:51boot barns were all around and then all the other stores.
- 8:54Cavenders Cow Ranch. And you're in all their stores.
- 8:57They are. Yeah.
- 8:58OK, Yeah. We have a whole, we have a very
- 9:01large client base that very little too and they're awesome.
- 9:04That's awesome. So you get to travel around and
- 9:06meet with all these distributors.
- 9:08When I was freshman college, I started going on sales trips
- 9:11with my dad and then we would probably went on 40 different
- 9:16flights in the summertime for our spring sales and travel to
- 9:20the country. It's pretty fun.
- 9:21I, I enjoy it a lot. And you get to meet all the
- 9:24people and hang out with them. I've taken to lunch, get to know
- 9:28him. And then in the winter time we
- 9:30go to the show in Texas called the Wisa and we get to show all
- 9:35of our stuff there. So they all come there and we
- 9:37don't have to travel in the winter time as much.
- 9:39Yeah, very cool. When you were a kid, did you
- 9:41like, did you see yourself being where you are right now?
- 9:46Yeah, for. Sure.
- 9:46Yeah, I've always wanted to work cover.
- 9:49I've always wanted to take over my dad's company for sure.
- 9:54And my sister, never, my sister never really wanted to do it.
- 9:57She's, she actually graduated from San Francisco State and
- 10:00then, OK, she worked at Ralph Lauren in New York City for six
- 10:04years. And she was high, she's pretty
- 10:06high up. And she did great.
- 10:07And then she came home after COVID because it changed.
- 10:10And now she's working for us and she's bringing all of her
- 10:14brilliant knowledge and helping us grow and making us more
- 10:17organized. And that's awesome.
- 10:18So I'll kind of do more of the traveling sales stuff and we'll
- 10:22kind of work together and hopefully we'll take it over in
- 10:23a couple of years. That way my dad can retire and
- 10:26just rope. Yeah, that's all he wants to.
- 10:28Do that's what I was gonna ask is like is that is that the
- 10:30strategy is like get the kids to take it over so that he can go
- 10:33play. Oh for sure, he still ropes a
- 10:35lot, but he just wants to retire and rope, do all that because he
- 10:39was just going to sell it, but he didn't realize that I wanted
- 10:42it so bad. Sure.
- 10:43And so now he's going to keep it and we're going to keep going
- 10:47with. It that's awesome man, I love
- 10:49that I love that you guys are keeping it in the family.
- 10:52You know what I'm saying? No, for sure.
- 10:53And I love like that, like that story, like, about your dad,
- 10:56like, you know, came from nothing, right.
- 10:59Living in a trailer. And here you guys are you.
- 11:02He has his own clothing company, you know, and something that he
- 11:05loves to do. Oh, yeah.
- 11:06Like, that's like the American Dream right there.
- 11:09Yeah, he he loves meeting people.
- 11:11He loves hanging out with all his friends, his coworkers and
- 11:14salespeople and all of our clients.
- 11:17He loves them all and treat them like family.
- 11:18And that's our goal is try to just treat everyone together.
- 11:21Yeah. So how many employees does this
- 11:22support? We probably have about 35.
- 11:27OK, we need a couple more here soon.
- 11:30Do you? Really.
- 11:31Yeah, that's awesome. And you guys have your warehouse
- 11:33in Cave Creek as well? Yeah, it's right off Cave Creek
- 11:36in the one O 1. OK, yeah, right off the road.
- 11:38Yeah, we got a big old banner right there that says CAVIAR
- 11:40around. It very cool.
- 11:42What's like the like the most challenging part about, you
- 11:46know, growing this business and, and all that?
- 11:49Well, we're really kind of my focus is marketing wise.
- 11:54My dad never really believed in it.
- 11:56He didn't know like the power of marketing that could be true.
- 12:00And now he's starting to realize it after our sales on our own
- 12:03personal website has been starting to grow since we I've
- 12:05been working on it. And once he's starting to see
- 12:08that potential, that's it's really just working with him is
- 12:11the hard part to get him to realize that, oh, we could do
- 12:14this and it'll be change it and make a lot better and work
- 12:17together. When Yeah, really just market
- 12:20and get people to know our company because a lot of people,
- 12:22we have a thousands of loyal customers, they're great.
- 12:25But no, when everyone sees our chapter for the first time, they
- 12:28think it's Carhartt or. Somewhere bigger it was.
- 12:30Bigger. And we're like, no, we're our
- 12:32own brands. I was just at the Indian
- 12:35National finals in Las Vegas at the South Point and I was
- 12:39working that show for a week and I had a bunch of people come up
- 12:43to me and they're like, oh, I love your stuff.
- 12:44I've been buying it for years. And then I had a lot of other
- 12:47people come up and be like, oh, where's this brand at?
- 12:50Would you guys sell other brands here or other brands there?
- 12:54And I was like, no, we're our own brand.
- 12:56They're like, oh, cool. And then they realize it, and
- 12:58then they stay in shopping. Yeah, and they start putting
- 13:01your clothes on, huh? And they start dancing and.
- 13:05It's really, really nice stuff, very, very comfortable.
- 13:07So we appreciate the support for sure.
- 13:09We'll definitely, we'll definitely support the brand.
- 13:11I didn't even realize I had cowboy hardware stuff until I we
- 13:15started talking to you guys and a lot.
- 13:16Of people don't yeah, thing everyone has a lot of people
- 13:19have our stuff and they just don't realize it's our stuff.
- 13:22Yeah, right. They think it's just a shirt
- 13:24from boot buying or a shoe. Yeah, like I said, my daughter
- 13:26works there, so she brings me stuff all the time and I just
- 13:28put it on. Next thing you know, I was like,
- 13:30I didn't realize until the day that you were talking about how
- 13:33you guys were talking. And I was like, should I
- 13:35actually think I have some of that stuff?
- 13:37Yeah. So how many athletes do you guys
- 13:40sponsor right now? Right now we have well, Colton,
- 13:44he's an athlete slash singer, but so him we got our little our
- 13:50kids Stockton, he just turned 16.
- 13:51Like I would not be surprised he goes NFR when he's getting
- 13:55older. Yeah, when he turns the age,
- 13:58he's so amazing. We got some other Stockton's
- 14:01little brother. He's a great Roper too.
- 14:03Got a bunch of our kids that we sponsor some bull riders that we
- 14:07have. We have a bucking.
- 14:08No, we have a saddle bronc rider in California.
- 14:14He's one of the tops in the high school rodeo.
- 14:16Oh, very cool A. Lot of youth riders.
- 14:18Yeah, yeah, very cool. Yeah.
- 14:20I think like to build a brand like what you said, you got to
- 14:22start young, right? Like you got to instill it
- 14:25because I mean, like us as kids, it's like, you know, Nike.
- 14:28Yeah, right. I mean, that's, that's what I
- 14:30remember as a kid is Nike, you know, and it was probably hard
- 14:34for them to instill that into adults and all that.
- 14:37So I think that's smart. Well, the tough part too is you
- 14:39have to find the right people to represent your brand.
- 14:42The, I mean, that's what happened with us is we ended up
- 14:44having the wrong people wearing our stuff and posting stupid
- 14:47stuff all over social media and it went the wrong direction.
- 14:49But, you know, making sure that you align yourself with the
- 14:52right athletes and the right people that promote your stuff
- 14:54is really important. Yeah, sure.
- 14:57So what about you? I mean play sports or anything
- 15:01or. Oh yeah, in high school, I high
- 15:03school before in elementary school I played everything I
- 15:06loved. Played baseball for nine years,
- 15:07played flag football for like 6 years.
- 15:09Then I finally got in tackle. Played that for a couple of
- 15:11years in high school. But then after freshman year
- 15:14high school, I quit football and I decided to do some mountain
- 15:17biking. I did my biking club, that was
- 15:18fun. Then I got into motocross
- 15:20because my cousin got me into it, so we had our own little
- 15:23racing team. Nice.
- 15:25And we did that, and then I graduated and then I went to
- 15:28ASU. Very cool.
- 15:30Finished this year, so I finished.
- 15:32I did three years there. OK, what?
- 15:34What did you get your degree in? A business communication.
- 15:37OK. And that's obviously totally the
- 15:41help help cowboy hardware. Yeah, I know.
- 15:43I he did. It was one of our requirements
- 15:45was that I went to college. Yeah.
- 15:47So I I went to college and did my time, finished early.
- 15:50Yeah. Took summer school both years
- 15:52and got it done and now we're now we're here.
- 15:55That's cool. How did you how did you run into
- 15:57Colton? So Colton, his family is a part
- 16:01of a so his family and my family, my dad and Colton's
- 16:06family, they're part of a posse in, it's off 7th St. and
- 16:12Thunderbird. So it's kind of in the middle of
- 16:13the city. And they how we have a big old
- 16:16arena. We got a bunch of stables, we
- 16:18got cattle there for roping. And it's kind of like Cowboy
- 16:21Country Club, kind of how I describe it to people like
- 16:24Cowboy Golf Club, but for roping.
- 16:25Yeah. And you pay to be a member and
- 16:28then you pay to be a roping member too, and kind of just
- 16:30screw that. And then every year we go on
- 16:32family events we do in Flagstaff.
- 16:34And we just grew up together and young and.
- 16:38So that's the one that's right above the Western Saddle Club,
- 16:40right? Yeah.
- 16:41Yeah. That's where we see the Western
- 16:43saddle. Club.
- 16:43Yep. That's where I that's what I was
- 16:44telling you about, OK. Yeah.
- 16:46We, I, I was there last week. We grew open.
- 16:49Yeah. Yeah, so my wife rides at the
- 16:50Western Saddle Club when they have events.
- 16:52And then the girl next door, Julia, she rides.
- 16:55They both barrel race. Oh, cool.
- 16:56So, yeah, yeah. That's awesome.
- 16:59Very cool. How like, how was it Like how,
- 17:05how did when when Colton was going into his music stuff, were
- 17:10you guys like, hey, we'll sponsor you or I mean, how did
- 17:15all that, all that one? So really like 4 years ago,
- 17:19three years ago, I was really starting to get closer with
- 17:21Colton because there's a little age gap between us, but nothing
- 17:24crazy. And we finally started roping
- 17:27together and we liked roping with each other because we were
- 17:29both doing good. We build each other up.
- 17:31And then he'd sing and I'm like, you need to go do something with
- 17:36this. You need to go sing somewhere
- 17:38and record yourself and do it right.
- 17:40And because he shows me all these videos, he's like, look at
- 17:42this song I wrote. And I'm like, yeah, you're
- 17:44really good. I know.
- 17:46Yeah, go. Do something about it.
- 17:47And he finally went and did something about it.
- 17:50And now he's doing the great. And I was told him, you need
- 17:53support. We'll help you out as much as we
- 17:55can. Yeah.
- 17:56But obviously, if he's going to get an offer from a bigger
- 17:59company, we want him to take that, come back to us, loop back
- 18:02around, because we want him to grow as much as he can.
- 18:05And but right now, they stay loyal and we want him to go.
- 18:08We want him to fly. Yeah, I know.
- 18:10We saw him out at Dillon's and I was, I remember he and I were
- 18:13sitting there talking and he started saying I was like, who's
- 18:16this, 'cause we're used to not having like it's used to being
- 18:19not real great artists out there.
- 18:21And we're like, man, he's really good.
- 18:24And then watching him roping goats in his wheelchair was.
- 18:27Oh yeah. Like next level cool.
- 18:29Well, I first saw him on TikTok just doing the whole, like, I
- 18:33think his cousin was pushing him, Yeah.
- 18:35That was at my. House Oh, are you serious?
- 18:37I'm dead serious. I was at my house.
- 18:38That's hilarious. Yeah.
- 18:39Yeah. I was like.
- 18:40What the Hell's going on? Yep, I was at my house.
- 18:42I was the one turning into a cow.
- 18:43OK, my cousin was healing it. Yeah, that's awesome, dude.
- 18:45I got like a lot of views too, man.
- 18:47I was like, oh. Yeah, it's awesome.
- 18:48It was a good, great meeting. Yeah.
- 18:50Do you like go back on them? Like yeah, that's mine.
- 18:52Yeah, yeah, that was cool. So what's next for cowboy
- 18:58Hardware? Do you guys got anything cool
- 18:59coming up or? Oh really just the biggest thing
- 19:02coming up is the NFR. We got 5 different booths there.
- 19:05So we got like the Cowboy Christmas is at the Convention
- 19:08Center. Yep, we have two booths.
- 19:09So we have a full booth with all of our clothing, adult youth and
- 19:12then we have a kids only booth that starts at youth and goes
- 19:15down to infant. Oh, very cool.
- 19:17What do you guys know exactly where your booths are?
- 19:22I don't have the. I could probably get the booth
- 19:24numbers if I looked on my phone, but I believe it's booth 431 for
- 19:30the adult booth but we're towards the front.
- 19:32On the bottom level. We've got 2 booths on the bottom
- 19:35level and. And you're going to be working
- 19:36those booths. Yeah, so for the first week I'll
- 19:39probably be floating around, jumping around, helping all the
- 19:41other booths, and then when my dad starts roping at South
- 19:44Point, I'll take over his booth. Gotcha.
- 19:46Oh, he's roping in the NFR. No.
- 19:48So there's the NFR. Then at South Point they put on
- 19:51another event called the It's the World Series.
- 19:54There's a bunch of qualifiers that go on all year round and a
- 19:57bunch of ropers go there and you can.
- 19:59That's life changing money for sure.
- 20:00Really. And that's the one that your
- 20:02dad's going to? Yeah.
- 20:03Yeah, so he is like they have a bunch of different ropings over
- 20:062 weeks and that's actually the one of the one that I'm finally
- 20:10old enough to rope in. Oh, cool.
- 20:12So I'm. How do you got to be to be in
- 20:13that? 21 OK yeah, so I just turned 21
- 20:16this year so that's when I'm gonna.
- 20:18Nice rope now. My dad's friend.
- 20:20Oh, so you are roping in it this year?
- 20:22Yeah. Oh, very cool.
- 20:23Yeah, very cool. At the not at the NFR, but the
- 20:26world's the World Series. OK, OK, how how do you get
- 20:31entered into that? Just do you have to have this
- 20:33amount of points or? No, So the World Series really,
- 20:37they got qualifiers in Wickenburg every a couple of
- 20:40months and you just go there, you enter and I I believe it's
- 20:43like top five, but don't quote me on that.
- 20:46And but you can do places per certain percentage and you
- 20:50automatically get to be in their big roping for that.
- 20:54And there's eights and there's fives and all these different
- 20:57people. And but you still got to pay
- 20:59that entry fee. So doesn't matter you qualify or
- 21:02not, but that's a big old entry. Fee is it?
- 21:05Yeah, I think it's like $2500. Oh, OK.
- 21:07Dang, yeah. But that payout is going.
- 21:09To be, I was going to say, what's the payout on it?
- 21:11500,000 Wow, yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, you win one of those and
- 21:16you're good. And you get to pick your own
- 21:18team right when you go in there or when?
- 21:20You if you actually qualify at one of the qualifiers, then you
- 21:23and your partner. Are the qualifier team.
- 21:25Good together. Gotcha.
- 21:26But in my case I didn't actually qualify.
- 21:29I my friend Les that I'm roping with my dad's, he's known me
- 21:33forever and he qualified with this guy.
- 21:36But this guy can't go to NFR now, so since I've roped in a
- 21:39World Series qualifier before, I'm in their system.
- 21:43Oh, so you can plug? In so I'm going to sub in for
- 21:45them. So we're going to rope together
- 21:47in the last Sunday, I think. That's awesome, dude.
- 21:50Very cool. That's exciting, man.
- 21:51No, for sure. I'm I'm nervous.
- 21:53I haven't I bet dude. Yeah, rope for the first time in
- 21:56a couple months the other day and I, I felt pretty good, so.
- 21:59Good. Now, how often are you going to
- 22:01practice? Oh, I probably try to get two or
- 22:03three times a week. In two or three times a week
- 22:04before then, do you guys have like roping facilities at your
- 22:08house? No, not personally at my house,
- 22:10but we go to that, that roping club, right, But the West Side
- 22:13club. And then I have some friends in
- 22:16Deer Valley area and the Norterra, they got an arena.
- 22:20I just went there rope there with him the other day.
- 22:22He'd give me some pointers and. Now will you enter into some
- 22:26other like roping competitions in in the meantime just to.
- 22:31Yeah. So hopefully I'll be in town for
- 22:33our posse that we're a part of. They put on week monthly
- 22:35ropings. So hopefully I'll be able to
- 22:37attend to the one of those. But other than that, I'll go to
- 22:40Dynamite and go rope there off Tatum, Tatum and Dynamite Street
- 22:45right there, they have a big old arena.
- 22:46They do ropings every every weekend and.
- 22:49So I'm, I mean, I'm pretty new into this whole cowboy culture
- 22:53stuff, right? I mean, as a kid, I've always
- 22:55wanted to be a cowboy. That's like, that was like my
- 22:58little fantasy, right? That's awesome.
- 23:00Get a horse, you know, chase Indians or something.
- 23:02I don't know. But like, what is it about
- 23:06roping that it's so addictive? Well, you know, I just got into
- 23:11golf. It's kind of the same thing,
- 23:13yeah. It's always something you just
- 23:14got to, something you could do better every time.
- 23:17You just want to do that perfect thing every time.
- 23:19And it's so cool being with your partner.
- 23:23It's not cool. And you miss, yeah, but you stay
- 23:26together and you especially if you're trying to do something
- 23:29big out of big qualifier or something, you guys got to work
- 23:31together and try to help each other out as you go in and.
- 23:35Yeah, you'll have to let us know when you when you do it in
- 23:37Vegas. And we'll try to make it that
- 23:38day because we're there. Then we get there the 5th and we
- 23:42come home Monday the 9th. Yeah, I think.
- 23:45So Oh yeah, you guys will be gone by the time I rope.
- 23:46Oh OK, so you'll be second week? OK, gotcha.
- 23:50They do all the higher number of ropings the first weeks.
- 23:54Got you. Towards the end they do the
- 23:56smaller ropens. Got you.
- 23:57Very cool. We'd like to take a moment and
- 24:01thank our sponsors for all of their support.

- 26:04So let me ask you this as as the next generation of cowboy
- 26:08hardware, where do you want to take it?
- 26:11What do you want to see happen with it?
- 26:12I just, I just want some, I just want everyone to know who we are
- 26:16and love our brand for how we how we make it so family
- 26:19oriented And because all those shirts that you guys are wearing
- 26:22and I'm wearing, they go all the way down to six months a years
- 26:24old. We got we, it's a whole family
- 26:26brand and that's what we love. We just want everyone to realize
- 26:30that we can, we are family oriented and everyone can see
- 26:35that and see and help us grow. And I wanted to be, I want to be
- 26:39really big. I think it'd be great.
- 26:41OK. We have the, we have the tools.
- 26:42We just got to get there. Just got to get there.
- 26:45Yeah. It's all about that social media
- 26:47too, huh? Yep.
- 26:48Yeah, that was a big part of it. I finally.
- 26:51I got him. To agree with that.
- 26:52And so I started running it, and then we hired our girl Sydney,
- 26:55who reached out to you guys. Yeah, and she's been doing
- 26:58awesome. By the way, shout out to Sydney.
- 27:00Yeah, she is awesome. Yeah, sure, she.
- 27:03Organizes everything great. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 27:06I was pretty bummed out. We we missed you guys out out
- 27:09there at the Horseshoe. Horseshoe hangout.
- 27:12Yeah, yeah. That's all right.
- 27:14It was fun. Yeah, nothing.
- 27:17Did you guys have any athletes in that rodeo?
- 27:19No, no, we didn't know anything. Only thing that was there was
- 27:22Colton was singing. OK, cool.
- 27:24That's right. Your stuff will probably be worn
- 27:26to Dillons tonight. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:29Well, yeah. I mean, thank you guys for
- 27:30sending my son. He's he's a little calf writer.
- 27:33So. Or I'll hold on.
- 27:34Steer writer. Yeah, he's not a, he's not a
- 27:37calf writer anymore. I got corrected yesterday.
- 27:39So yeah, yeah, yeah. He's he's got no problem
- 27:42correcting. You no, no, no yeah, he's all
- 27:44about it and that like that's what I love too about this whole
- 27:47step, this whole lifestyle is family, right?
- 27:51Like what you said like family oriented and all that.
- 27:54And I mean there's, I don't, I don't think there's anything
- 27:57else out there like that. So.
- 27:59No, there's that's a different Yeah, the Cowboys definitely
- 28:02rely on family and friends and it's a good, it's a good
- 28:05lifestyle to have. Yeah.
- 28:07Well, and it's there's a lot of loyalty there too.
- 28:09I mean you think about, you know, just for us within 2 miles
- 28:13what there's is there three or four sets of family?
- 28:16There's three. So you, your family, ours, and
- 28:20then Tyler and Mackenzie, you know, I mean within 2 miles and
- 28:23they're all like him. My wife and the Mackenzie are
- 28:26all cousins and we all live within 2 miles of each other,
- 28:29you know? And it's cool.
- 28:31I travel a lot for work, so it's nice to be out here and then I
- 28:34don't have to worry about it when I'm gone because he's 4
- 28:38minutes down the road if something happens here, right?
- 28:41But it's, it's the community piece that I that I just fell in
- 28:44love with. I mean, I grew up spending my
- 28:45summers on a ranch in upstate New York, so I knew how hard the
- 28:50work was. And when my wife was like, I
- 28:52think I really want to do this. I'm like, be careful what you
- 28:54wish for 'cause this is, there's no sick days.
- 28:57There's no, it's raining outside.
- 28:59I don't want to go out there and like you're you're shoveling
- 29:02horseshit at 5:30 in the morning every day 365.
- 29:06You know, So it, it is cool. And, and to see that you guys
- 29:09have built a brand that that really, you know, represents the
- 29:12culture piece of it I think is cool.
- 29:14You know, there's a lot of people that can say that they're
- 29:16going to go do it. And then there's a big
- 29:18difference between saying you're going to do it and then going
- 29:20out and doing it. Yeah.
- 29:21I know for. Sure.
- 29:21What What I also like is a variety of clothes that you guys
- 29:24have. Like it's like, you know, you go
- 29:27to Boot Barn and I mean, yeah, you guys got your section, but I
- 29:31feel like you guys have a lot of variety within that, you know,
- 29:35because if you go to like this sand for the area, it's like all
- 29:37like the same. That's our goal.
- 29:40We want to be different. Yeah, we like being different.
- 29:42We like being a little fun, a little more crazy.
- 29:44And we love our fun designs. Like your Paisley that you're
- 29:46wearing. Yeah, I'm.
- 29:47Wearing I love that one. That one's cool.
- 29:49This is. My favorite.
- 29:50I was going to bring you guys this one, but I didn't know.
- 29:51I didn't know if you guys were cool like that.
- 29:53Oh, the Wilder the better for us.
- 29:55So I'm telling you, you ought to see some of the stuff we wear in
- 29:57Vegas. Yeah, when we go, Yeah, we're
- 29:59it's the louder the better. Yeah, no, we, I that's what I
- 30:02grew up with. I love it.
- 30:03Some of these buyers at these stores are like, oh, this is a
- 30:06little too crazy. I'm like, that's why you buy
- 30:07from us. Yeah, that's what we do.
- 30:09And. Wait, what is what is that
- 30:11called? Paisley.
- 30:12Paisley. Yeah.
- 30:13OK. Yeah, no, like when we went to
- 30:16when we went to Kojo last year, I think I probably lit up the
- 30:19stadium because it was like fluorescent orange and red and
- 30:22brown. Oh yeah, we never, we like wore
- 30:25like retro shirts like old, like make it look like 90s Cowboys or
- 30:30whatever. Yeah, that's kind of the style
- 30:32that's in right now. Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 30:35No, there's a bunch of Kym stuff for sure.
- 30:38Yeah, we love Kym's our our neighbors.
- 30:39Yeah, they're great guys. Yeah, yeah, my my daughter's
- 30:43best friend works for Kym's and she says they're just amazing
- 30:45people. Oh.
- 30:46Yeah, they're amazing. They're.
- 30:47Great. Yeah, Yeah, very cool.
- 30:51So what's next? What are you, you know,
- 30:54obviously you have the roping this fall.
- 30:55What is what does the spring look like for Cowboy Hardware?
- 30:58Are you guys already set up for the Spring launch or are you
- 31:01guys working through that? We haven't.
- 31:03We don't receive any spring stuff probably until late
- 31:06December, January, then we can because we kind of when we order
- 31:10our store orders, they pick like they want a shipment in January,
- 31:13they want a shipment in March, they want to ship rent in May.
- 31:16They kind of ship it out and we kind of make it work for them.
- 31:20But it's matter of just getting all of our product in and that
- 31:22way we can. Our warehouse is so organized,
- 31:25we could probably handle double the amount of our stuff and
- 31:27we'll be great. It's just a matter of getting
- 31:29sales. But yeah, what does that sales
- 31:31cycle look like for you guys as as the brand, right?
- 31:34When you're going out, doing your sales calls, if you're
- 31:37going out now, what does that sales cycle look like?
- 31:39When would today's sales hit? Oh, for sure.
- 31:41So after actually the week after we get back from the NFR, I get,
- 31:46I drive home on Monday and then I drive out to California on
- 31:49Tuesday to go meet with our big bar and our client and that's
- 31:53when we are going to show them our fall 2026 line.
- 31:57OK. Yeah.
- 31:58So it's a year out essentially, basically makes sense.
- 32:01And then in January, we go to our WISA show that I was talking
- 32:05about earlier. And that's where all the stores
- 32:07come in, our little mom and pop stores.
- 32:09And they all come in and we all get to meet and we have 8
- 32:13different sales booths shut up, set up for everyone.
- 32:16And that's when we replace our orders for fall.
- 32:19When you say you go to Boot Barn to show them the collection, are
- 32:23they sitting there saying yes, yes, no, yes, yes?
- 32:27So they're picking with it. How they want it, they want
- 32:29this, these five and this month, this five and this month is five
- 32:33that month. OK.
- 32:34And a lot of our yeah. And we do.
- 32:36We go to the stores most of the time as much as we can, but if
- 32:40it's easier for them then we'll just meet them at that one show
- 32:43and we'll get it done. But aren't we usually pretty
- 32:45more? Personal now, are they asking
- 32:46like we want a certain amount of these shirts, a certain amount
- 32:50of these shirts? Yes, for sure.
- 32:52Yeah, so after they. Pick the styles that they want,
- 32:54then they take a couple weeks, then they place their quantities
- 32:57and orders and which stores get each shirt because not all
- 33:00stores get the same amount. Yeah.
- 33:02They've got to figure out their forecasting for prior year
- 33:04sales, what they anticipate in growth and all that other stuff.
- 33:07They. Have ABCD stores that it goes?
- 33:10I think it goes down to E, but maybe it just stops AD.
- 33:13So from a design perspective for your guys stuff, do you take
- 33:16where does that come from? Is it, do you guys have an
- 33:19internal designer that you guys just give ideas to or?
- 33:23It's we have a whole team, OK, I'm part of it, my dad's part of
- 33:26it, my sister's part of it. Now my mom is part of it.
- 33:29Then where I have our designer who does all the computer work
- 33:32and we pitch in ideas and it take it's a long process to
- 33:36build a whole line, especially for fall because fall you have
- 33:39outerwear, sweatshirts, snap shirts, T-shirts.
- 33:42Now we're coming out with polos next.
- 33:44Year. Oh, are you?
- 33:45Yeah, very cool. Well, we actually did this year.
- 33:47They're actually in Boop Barn right now, but we send them.
- 33:50We're coming out those next year.
- 33:51So it's just a big old process. And then ladies, you got all the
- 33:54knits and all those shirts that they wear, the fringe skirts and
- 33:58dresses and. Is is clothing your number one
- 34:03sales? Yeah, for sure.
- 34:05Like like what do you? Mean well, like 'cause you guys
- 34:07do hardware as well, right? Like the gloves and stuff.
- 34:09You actually. Don't make the glove.
- 34:10Anymore. Oh, OK.
- 34:11Yeah. So it's all apparel now?
- 34:13Yeah. My dad has his own special stash
- 34:14of his gloves. He wears them.
- 34:16He wears them all the time. But I never really, I never, I
- 34:19just never grew up with them. And I think my hand's a little
- 34:22too big for his size, but. Yeah, what's your #1 seller?
- 34:25Is it T-shirts? I mean all year round it's a
- 34:30snap. Shirts for.
- 34:31Sure. Oh, it is.
- 34:31Because, but quantity wise, it's definitely the T-shirts, yeah,
- 34:35sure. But quantity, it's definitely
- 34:38probably our snapshirts because we sell them in spring and fall.
- 34:41Gotcha. But outerwears where you make
- 34:43money, that's the yeah, that's the big money.
- 34:45Jackets and vests and stuff like that, yeah.
- 34:48I didn't know that well, I don't know anything about selling
- 34:52clothes. It's naughty.
- 34:54See. Oh, I bet.
- 34:56Yeah, a big. Old process?
- 34:57Yeah, it's, yeah. I mean, to be about 30 years,
- 35:00yeah, that's awesome. Oh yeah, I mean, 'cause you
- 35:02gotta think about like, comfort and everything.
- 35:05Oh. We spend hours on patterns and
- 35:07our shirts do run a little bit, but a lot of Cowboys like that
- 35:10'cause then you tuck them in, they don't come out.
- 35:12So that's what we talked about yesterday, right?
- 35:15So when so you guys sent us these shirts yesterday, OK.
- 35:18And, like, they were long, but I like that because, you know,
- 35:24when I go like this, right, it doesn't come up.
- 35:27And if it does, it's still tucked in.
- 35:29Yeah. You know, And I was telling my
- 35:31cousin Sam that these are not too big and they're not too
- 35:35skinny. Yes, Right.
- 35:36Like I still look good in it I think.
- 35:39Yeah. Right.
- 35:39You would agree, right? Yeah, exactly.
- 35:43But I put mine on, it was like, oh, because I'm short, right?
- 35:47And but they end up, once you tuck them in, they're great.
- 35:50And you're right. I'm like, there's no chance
- 35:52these things are coming out. Yeah, like.
- 35:54That's our goal when you're riding your horse, Yeah.
- 35:56If you're wearing AT shirt, don't tuck that in.
- 35:58It's going to come right now, right?
- 35:59And it's just it's just short, which is fine.
- 36:02Yeah, but they're very, very comfortable and they fit great.
- 36:06Yeah, like all those other brands, man.
- 36:08I'll be tucking them in and they'll come out in the back and
- 36:11my my butt crack will probably be showing.
- 36:13I'll tell you, there's one brand out there that Boot Barn carries
- 36:15that I won't wear anymore because it's so boxy.
- 36:18Like as soon as you put it on it's literally just square and I
- 36:22just can't. Have you guys ever thought of
- 36:26like, I don't know, just throwing some ideas out there,
- 36:30maybe having your fans or your supporters kind of think of
- 36:35different designs that you guys want to do or?
- 36:37Or yeah, we thought about that. Maybe for T-shirts that could
- 36:40work, especially once we build build a bigger presence we'd
- 36:43like to have, like maybe one of our athletes come design a
- 36:45shirt. That would be cool for.
- 36:47That and we'll do that, but once we get our website more working
- 36:51like we just have to pay attention to it and work with
- 36:53it. And this year I've already, I
- 36:55did actually yesterday, I did what we did the entire year last
- 36:58year we're already here. And this, these next two months,
- 37:02you double what you do. All right.
- 37:03So it's just a matter of paying attention to it.
- 37:06So once we get big enough with that, we'll be able to do more
- 37:08fun stuff, I think. And because right now we're
- 37:10using our newer products on our website, but a lot of our older
- 37:13stuff is there too because we got a lot of leftovers and it's
- 37:15still good. It still looks good.
- 37:17So we still sell it. How hard is it to find like the
- 37:20the material that you guys need? So that's our different
- 37:24manufacturers that they send us a bunch of different types of
- 37:26material. But a lot like a couple years
- 37:28ago these didn't really have a lot a little stretch like if you
- 37:30pull on them, they have a little stretch right now.
- 37:32Yeah. And our, we definitely, we ride
- 37:35through a lot of cat claw in Arizona.
- 37:38So we definitely wanted durability.
- 37:40And I've ridden through shirts. And my cousin, he probably has
- 37:43more shirts than me and he rides through more cat claw than me.
- 37:46He does. And he loves them because they
- 37:48don't really RIP their hair. And that's what we want.
- 37:50We wanted to be durable, strong and come.
- 37:52Yeah. Comfortable, yeah.
- 37:55But I love that little stretch that we added in that was that
- 37:57was a good. Yeah, I like it too.
- 37:59I like it. And it's not too stretchy.
- 38:00No, you know what I mean? It's just spandex.
- 38:03Yeah, it's just fine. Just enough so they won't tear.
- 38:06Yeah, yeah. Just to give a little give, do
- 38:11you guys sell just plain black shirts?
- 38:15Yeah, so I actually finally we made some black, white and blue
- 38:21shirts that we just got in this fall.
- 38:23We're actually waiting for them to come in.
- 38:24They're almost there, but we made them out of this special
- 38:27bamboo fabric and it's really nice and slick.
- 38:29And we put our big cowboy hardware logo on the arm.
- 38:32This is a brand T-shirt that especially our athletes, they
- 38:35can put their other sponsors on them.
- 38:37We'll order it for them. OK, so I'm going to put a plug
- 38:40in here because the reason why I, I ask is I'm part of a, a, a
- 38:46riding club. It's like a men's riding club.
- 38:48We, we try to raise money for underpillar's kids at, at the
- 38:52end of the year and all that. You know, it's like Christmas
- 38:54and stuff. And, but one of our biggest
- 38:58events is the Pony Express. We ride from Cave Creek to
- 39:02Prescott and it takes us like 2 days.
- 39:06And like each rider will have their own leg, you know, like
- 39:09we'll start at Horse's help. We like work with them.
- 39:14We start at Horse's Help and then we go to Cleater.
- 39:16We stay the night at Cleater and then we ride to the Prescott and
- 39:20we literally ride into town. We kind of shut down traffic and
- 39:24ride around and then drop the mail off.
- 39:26But for like the club members, we wear all black shirts, you
- 39:32know? So that's why I was asking
- 39:35'cause I think I'm going to buy one to kind of put represent.
- 39:38Yeah, sure. Yeah, if.
- 39:39They're in though. I'll help you out.
- 39:42And then like the non members that want a ride, they wear the
- 39:45white shirts. So if you guys have white shirts
- 39:48as well that you know you'd send people that way too, so.
- 39:51Yeah, there's definitely a lot enough people that we know that
- 39:53can support the brand. I mean my brother-in-law Bucks
- 39:56Bulls semi professionally out of the Buffalo Chip and all over
- 40:01the place. Yeah, we were talking the other
- 40:04day about you guys coming out and stuff like that.
- 40:06So he was talking about how much he likes your guys stuff.
- 40:08So there's enough people to help you guys support it for sure.
- 40:11Yeah. Yeah, I like the I like the
- 40:13local stuff, man Yeah, me too. I I love supporting local yeah,
- 40:17that's why like having Colton on was such a big deal for us
- 40:21because it's like, you know, just the local artists like how
- 40:24cool would that be? Did obviously, I don't know how
- 40:28well we helped him, but just to kind of be a part of that
- 40:30journey of like growing and getting bigger and everything.
- 40:34So, yeah, he's such a good kid, too.
- 40:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's funny, man.
- 40:37We had a good time. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:41I'm really hoping to get out there and watch him rope too.
- 40:44You know who's who's a Who's a better Roper, you or Colton?
- 40:48Oh, probably Colton, but Colton, he really heals.
- 40:51Since he can't, he doesn't really head.
- 40:53Oh, OK, and I do more heading. Got you.
- 40:55I'm the header and he's the healer when we do it.
- 40:56But I want to learn. I'm learning how to heal right
- 40:58now I'm getting kind of good but.
- 41:01What's that? Before his accent, he's probably
- 41:03he's definitely a better Roper for me.
- 41:05What's the, what's the I mean, so for people that don't know,
- 41:09when you say a head, right, you're you're roping the head of
- 41:12the of the steer. Yeah.
- 41:13So you rope. The horn or the steer or the
- 41:14head. You can catch the neck, horns or
- 41:17a half head which is basically horn and a neck.
- 41:20OK. And then those are the only
- 41:22three legal catches, and then you turn them left and healers
- 41:25can try to catch back feet. Now when you're turning the the
- 41:30steer left, is that like right away, like you gotta hurry up
- 41:33and turn your horse and. No, not if you're not ready.
- 41:37Obviously you got a dally first on your saddle horn.
- 41:39But if that cow is kind of freaking out or if the cow's
- 41:42already going left, then you kind of got to ease more into
- 41:45the turn because he's already doing it.
- 41:46Because I did the other day on I, I, the cow was running left
- 41:51while I was running with him, and I jerked him left and he
- 41:54just tumbled. And yeah, you just kind of got
- 41:57to ease them in. It's every cow's different.
- 41:59That's when you learn how to handle the cattle.
- 42:01And you're setting up your healer, right?
- 42:03Yeah, so that's that's the thing.
- 42:04If you have a good handle as a header, your healers like roping
- 42:07with you. That's my goal.
- 42:08That's that's my, I like, I like being the guy that everyone
- 42:11likes to rope with. So I, I really try to be gentle
- 42:13on the heels and try to put it in the rope.
- 42:16Yeah, try to walk the steer right into the rope.
- 42:18Yeah, you want to be the phone call when a bad ass healer's
- 42:20ready to to go rope? Yeah, yeah.
- 42:22Well, it's a, it's a good analogy that you said for people
- 42:26that don't know, it's like golf, right?
- 42:28Like every hit matters. No, for sure, right.
- 42:30Like every little hit that you do matters.
- 42:33You know, you can't just make it up, like you can't just get a
- 42:35Mulligan every time. And the same thing with roping.
- 42:37It's like every throw matters, right?
- 42:40If you miss, you miss. Yeah, there's so much more than
- 42:43just throw too. It's especially if you're the
- 42:45header. The header you have to worry
- 42:47about timing, so you break out-of-the-box before.
- 42:49If you beat the steer out of his chute then there's 5 seconds
- 42:53right there at your time and then once you catch you got to
- 42:55make sure you dally right and then or else you lose a thumb or
- 42:59fingers really. I know some guys that are great
- 43:01ropers and they've lost the thumb.
- 43:02They still rope. But oh Dang, how do you lose a
- 43:05thumb? He.
- 43:05Gets caught in when you go to. Dally, yeah I've never I'd be I
- 43:09am super careful with dally. My dad did a really good job
- 43:11teaching me how to dally and be careful with it.
- 43:15It's better to lose a. It's better just to let go and
- 43:17miss then it is. Right now, can you feel it?
- 43:20Like if if you're going to do a bad dally or something, can you
- 43:23feel it and you just. Yeah, I've gotten my fingers
- 43:25caught in there a little bit. Yeah, but you just had a lot and
- 43:28you'd be strong and it stays there.
- 43:31Damn dude that's scary. I've always liked seeing like on
- 43:35that's. Really the danger part of it.
- 43:37Is losing your fingers, Yeah. Well, that's why in Yellowstone,
- 43:41he hands him a rope. He says learn how to learn how
- 43:43to rope. Worse things going to happen is
- 43:45you're going to lose a thumb. And you got two of those.
- 43:46Yeah, when Jimmy's in bed after breaking his back.
- 43:51What What? What do you think is harder, a
- 43:53header or a healer? I think there's different
- 43:57components. Like I said, the heading you
- 43:59have to deal with timing. That timing is like everything
- 44:03and then obvious. I think the catch for sure, the
- 44:05heading is easier for sure, no doubt timing those feet moving
- 44:10back and forth and it's such a hard thing to do right.
- 44:13And but then again, you have all the technical stuff that the
- 44:16header has to deal with. So I'd say they're pretty even.
- 44:18But it's definitely more common to find a better header than it
- 44:21is to find a better. The skill set's just different,
- 44:23right? Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 44:25Yeah, and you got to be a good horseman too.
- 44:27OK. That's the number one cast.
- 44:29And you got to trust your horse, yeah.
- 44:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 44:34You just got to be a good rider. Yeah, If you can, I can jump on
- 44:36a different horse and figure it out.
- 44:39If that horse knows what he's doing right or understands a
- 44:41little bit, if you're a good rider, you'll be able to make it
- 44:44work, Yeah. That's crazy that you say that
- 44:47cuz Dylan has competitions throughout the week and me and
- 44:54my daughter will go out there and go watch them, you know, and
- 44:56like everything you say, that's not what it looks like.
- 44:59Yeah. It just, it just looks like
- 45:00people riding and throwing. Yeah, you know, but there's,
- 45:03there is a lot that goes into just doing that or even getting
- 45:07to that point, right? I mean, you can't just, nobody
- 45:10could just come off the street, get on a horse and just start
- 45:12roping. Oh no.
- 45:14Especially if you've never been on a horse before, right?
- 45:16Have you? Yeah, it's I've been to the
- 45:18great, you know Walt Woodard has ever heard of him because he's a
- 45:21two time world champion NFR guy and he comes and he did a school
- 45:25at our posse every year. He finally did his last school
- 45:28was there. He did every year consistently
- 45:31and I took it when I was younger.
- 45:35And first thing you talked about first lesson he gives us his
- 45:37horsemanship. That's the number one aspect of
- 45:40it. If you, if you can't figure out
- 45:41your horse and you're not going to rope because yeah, horse is
- 45:44going to be doing something different and it's going to
- 45:46distract you from roping. And that's just the number one
- 45:49aspect. I feel like in all of the cowboy
- 45:51western stuff, if you can't work a horse or trust a horse to do
- 45:55something, sometimes a horse knows more than you.
- 45:57You just got to let it go. It's like every day we went
- 46:00trail riding with my cousin. He wants to learn and he's
- 46:03learning. He's doing pretty good and I put
- 46:06him on the rest horse and I'm like, just trust the horse and
- 46:09just let him do his thing. He'll he'll do it.
- 46:10He'll take care of you. It's just like my mom.
- 46:13I put my mom on my horse and he takes care of her.
- 46:15She's like a Bentley. It's driving to everyone.
- 46:17Just go super smooth and all that.
- 46:20Is that your roping horse as well?
- 46:21Yeah, one of them. One of them how many horses you
- 46:24got? We just bought another one this
- 46:26week and then went shopping in Nogales, but I think we have 6/6
- 46:32an hour or no. You know what we have 7.
- 46:34One's a stallion, 1's a broodmare.
- 46:37Our broodmare's my wife's. And yeah, I have a my old, my
- 46:42old horse that I learned how to rope on.
- 46:43He's our, he's just our pet. He's got horse shingles.
- 46:46It's called ring bone. It's bad, but he's retired.
- 46:49He's only 16, but we're not getting rid of him.
- 46:52Yeah, he's our. He's our pretty pet.
- 46:54Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's hard to get rid
- 46:56of a horse now. Oh, it's the rough, Yeah,
- 46:59roughest thing. My dad had this horse named
- 47:00Rodeo. He was great.
- 47:02He's been there since I was born.
- 47:04And he he's this amazing guy. He's, he's not like the most
- 47:07personality horse. He doesn't like to be pet, but
- 47:10he likes to do his job. So when you get on him, he knows
- 47:12how to work. He, he was the best row of horse
- 47:14we had probably. And I had to take him to the to
- 47:18the vet last year and that was rough.
- 47:19That was a rough car ride. Yeah, I bet.
- 47:22Yeah, we had our first horse put down because he like colic and
- 47:25stuff and I was like Carly. Yeah, it was hard.
- 47:29Yeah. But yeah, when I was little, I
- 47:31mean, my dad went on a streak of just buying me old horses.
- 47:34I probably, I think I had, I had three horses before I was like
- 47:3910. Dang.
- 47:40I didn't know. Yeah, they went to a ranch.
- 47:43And you're right, they went to. A ranch in Cottonwood, AZ.
- 47:46Right. Yeah, but I didn't know.
- 47:47But now that I do know it's, it's a rough.
- 47:49Yeah, definitely a different life.
- 47:51So we've got 4 here. We've got the two, the one
- 47:53that's cribbing behind us, of course, and then Sedona over in
- 47:56the corner. That's the performance order.
- 47:57That's Sedona. That's Sedona.
- 47:58That's. My wife's That's our brood.
- 48:00Marriage. Oh, really?
- 48:01Yeah. So this is Aspen.
- 48:02And then that's Sedona. And then we have two in training
- 48:05J DS over in the round pen. He's a four year old BAE.
- 48:09And then Red back here is a four year old Red Rhone.
- 48:13He's ready to go. He's actually listed for sale
- 48:15right now. He's got almost six months on
- 48:18him and then we just brought him in.
- 48:20So my brother-in-law who bucks bulls also trains horses.
- 48:23So he comes out here three or four days a week and works them.
- 48:26So yeah, kind of got a little little equine deal going on.
- 48:31Here it's fun though. Yeah, it's.
- 48:33Cool. It's cool to come out and see
- 48:35like the progression of somebody training a horse.
- 48:38Because that dude was feral as I'll get out when we brought him
- 48:41home. Like you didn't want to get near
- 48:43it. Yeah.
- 48:45The what? The pretty horses.
- 48:46They usually behave the worst. Yeah, he was.
- 48:49He was something else. And then this one, the Bay,
- 48:55Trevor was saying he's like that, that that horse is
- 48:57unbelievably athletic. He goes if I tried to get on him
- 49:00in the in the arena, not in the round pen, He he's strong enough
- 49:03to buck me off. And that's saying something for
- 49:05a bull rider to be like that one will send me off.
- 49:09So yeah, he's got a lot of work to do with that one.
- 49:10But Red's done. Red's ready to go, but he thinks
- 49:13that he's either going to be a breakaway horse or like a a teen
- 49:17Roper horse 'cause he's fast as hell.
- 49:20Oh, if he can do 1, he can do the other.
- 49:22Yeah. Especially he on the hillside,
- 49:24for sure. Yeah, that's definitely the
- 49:26case. But a lot of horses can do both
- 49:27ends, yeah. He's he's a good horse.
- 49:29Do. You guys have any breakaway
- 49:31athletes? Not yet, Not yet.
- 49:33Yeah, that's kind of my department looking into that and
- 49:38finding everyone in that we want.
- 49:39We've got 1 coming, don't we? Yeah, yeah.
- 49:43Her name is Kylie. Yeah.
- 49:45Yeah, she, I think she was, she was roping out like up north.
- 49:51She was in Montana, Yeah, when I reached out to her originally.
- 49:53And then now she's back here, so I think she does it a lot.
- 49:56Well, we saw her off. I saw her on a Cowboy channel.
- 49:59Yeah, she did like a rope in like 2 or 3 seconds.
- 50:02I'm like, God, wait man. Yeah, she doesn't break away.
- 50:04Fast. And we found out she's from
- 50:06Wickenburg. It's crazy.
- 50:07It's cool. Yeah.
- 50:08Yeah. I think though it was a world
- 50:10record like 1.6 or something. One, are you serious?
- 50:12There had to be literally 1 loop and God.
- 50:14That's what it is. I don't really think it is.
- 50:16I think it's just throw. That's crazy.
- 50:19You know what's? Crazy too is like I think about
- 50:21that and I think like why can't like some of these headers do
- 50:24that? So you can, so like when I grew
- 50:27up, I, we did some junior rodeos when I was in middle school and
- 50:29stuff and you'd go and there's a whole bunch of events you can do
- 50:32with back. You don't get off the cow, the
- 50:34calf and flip that calf over until you're at high school.
- 50:38So we would just steer stop basically.
- 50:39So we'd rope the calf and stop and dally.
- 50:41And so it's kind of the same thing.
- 50:43But OK, yeah, we we went to the PBR teams show here.
- 50:50That's the best event. Yeah, that's my favorite rodeo
- 50:52event, probably. It was fun next to the NFR.
- 50:55Yeah, yeah, it was, it was it was a lot of fun.
- 50:58My son actually got a picture with JB Mooney.
- 51:01Like just totally, I mean, accident just I saw him down
- 51:05there. I'm like, Drake, get up, let's
- 51:07go. He's like, dad where we're
- 51:08going. I'm like, get up, let's go,
- 51:09hurry up. You know.
- 51:11But my favorite part about that was watching Derek Begay out
- 51:14there. He was out there and he was like
- 51:16some, some bulls got loose and they wouldn't go go back into
- 51:20the pen and he was out there, you know, roping and I'm just
- 51:23like, golly. Yeah, that's a roping bulls.
- 51:26That's a scary business. Yeah.
- 51:28I saw a guy this year earlier in the Queen Creek, they have their
- 51:31rodeo and his, his horse just turned the left and he should
- 51:35have turned right. And then he went next to the
- 51:37fence and this bull was there and he flipped the entire horse
- 51:41upside down and landed on the guy and his.
- 51:44And the best part is that he was one of the pickup man, right?
- 51:47And his brother is the owner of the Bulls.
- 51:51Oh. Boy, but he, he, he just broke
- 51:54three ribs. I think he was on his horse the
- 51:56next day doing it just to be there.
- 51:58That's crazy. Horse is is a is a horse is.
- 52:01Something real bad. Is it?
- 52:03But did the horse live? Yeah, OK.
- 52:05He's. A little freaked out, but.
- 52:06Well, remember, we were up at the Roadrunner.
- 52:09Were you there that night? That that kid, they ended up
- 52:11stopping bucking bulls because they had to take him out of an
- 52:14ambulance. No, I.
- 52:15Wasn't there oh man, we were there.
- 52:16I I was convinced we saw somebody die.
- 52:18That's. What I thought too.
- 52:19Yeah, and I just, I guess he survived, but I think he broke
- 52:23his back in a bunch of ribs and stuff like that.
- 52:25But he he came off the bull and the the bull just stomped this
- 52:30dude out. And I just he and he just laid
- 52:32there motionless. I was like, we just, we just
- 52:34witnessed some dude get killed. Yeah, it was scary.
- 52:38Yeah. They stopped everything but it's
- 52:41wild. Yeah, yeah, it it, I mean all
- 52:43these. It's dangerous.
- 52:46I mean, you saw me come off at Sedona sprinting through the
- 52:49desert. I mean, you can get hurt on
- 52:50these horses or these bulls at any moment.
- 52:53You gotta. You just have to be, Yeah.
- 52:55It might not even be their fault.
- 52:57Well, she stepped in a hole. We were sprinting across the
- 53:00desert. She stepped in a hole and
- 53:01luckily she kept her balance, but it threw me up and over the
- 53:04front. And I mean, thank God she didn't
- 53:07land on me, right? That would have probably killed
- 53:09me so. Yeah, they're like 1000 LB
- 53:12animals, man. With their own mind.
- 53:16Yeah, yeah, You know, have you ever had any crazy accidents so
- 53:20far? Actually, I haven't my whole
- 53:23life except for. Yeah, you better knock on wood.
- 53:26I know the risk. I know it's I know I'm lucky for
- 53:30sure. Yeah.
- 53:30When I was little, my first my first animal was a miniature
- 53:33mule. Oh really?
- 53:35I got. Bucked off of him when I was a
- 53:36little little but. That's the most recent.
- 53:38One was actually, we got a new horse and he's a younger one and
- 53:42we actually got him out in Whitman.
- 53:44He's a fantastic head horse. And I, when I went to go propose
- 53:49to my wife, we were on this ranch down in Loquel.
- 53:52It's just east of Nogales on this big old 13,000 acre ranch
- 53:57that we're friends with. And we were riding and it was
- 54:00literally after we got done proposing, I got done proposing
- 54:03to her, right? And we were on the ride back and
- 54:06she was driving in the Ranger with her mom because she was all
- 54:08excited. They were all hiding and all
- 54:09that stuff. And we were riding back and
- 54:11there's these bulls and her dad gets this smart idea.
- 54:15Let's kind of let's run back, let's do some jogging back.
- 54:18And I'm on this horse that doesn't.
- 54:20This horse has probably never seen a big old Charley Angus
- 54:23bowl in his life. He's just been seen roping
- 54:25steers and he starts running. I'm trying to hold him back a
- 54:28little bit because I know there's a bull up there.
- 54:31It's not his fault. He's just scared.
- 54:33And it's bowl lifts his head up and stomps one time and this
- 54:37horse just sidesteps. He didn't buck or anything.
- 54:40He just sidesteps within like jumps, like 10 feet sideways.
- 54:44And I just fall off the side. Dang, 20 minutes after I'm done
- 54:47proposing. And my wife, my wife witnesses
- 54:49that. Yeah.
- 54:50And I'm like, Oh my gosh. I swore I could ride and I
- 54:53swear, yeah. No.
- 54:54And her brother goes, well, that was a short engagement.
- 54:57I was like, Oh yeah. That's awesome.
- 55:00That's great. How long you been married?
- 55:02Actually it was one year last Sunday, so.
- 55:04Oh, congratulations. Yeah, Congrats.
- 55:06Thank you. Yeah, You guys meet in college?
- 55:09No, we actually met at the, you know, the family rodeo events
- 55:11that I was talking about, me and Colton Grove going to Yeah, her
- 55:14dad became a member and the first year he became a member,
- 55:17they went to that family event and that's where I met her.
- 55:20And that was actually she was supposed to leave on a a mission
- 55:23for a church. OK.
- 55:25And but the next week I talked, we talked on Instagram and I
- 55:29finally took her on a date and she changed her mind.
- 55:31She stayed. Nice got married, got her insta
- 55:34huh? Yep.
- 55:35Oh, she actually DM me. She followed me.
- 55:37OK, yeah, yeah. So she's the one that was OK.
- 55:39She knew what she did, too. Yeah.
- 55:43It's all right because I had to hit up my wife on Myspace.
- 55:47That's how old I am. Yeah, I was.
- 55:50I was too free to talk to her. I was like, I just go on
- 55:53Myspace, hit her in the DMS over there.
- 55:56See what music she has on her board.
- 55:57Yeah, yeah, you you probably don't know what Myspace is.
- 56:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 56:05Your sister probably does. I'm.
- 56:07I'm sure she does. Yeah, yeah, that's funny.
- 56:11Well, very cool. Well, we're excited to see what
- 56:14you guys do with the brand, especially in the next
- 56:15generation. You're coming up and you're

- 56:24I'd love to have my dad on with. You guys, Yeah, that'd be great.
- 56:26We can actually talk to him. Oh, for sure, yeah.
- 56:28It'd be cool to do it in the warehouse.
- 56:30Yeah, we could do it in. The warehouse, Yeah, that'd be
- 56:32awesome. Yeah, well, what's cool about
- 56:33our setup is we could literally go anywhere.
- 56:35Yeah, so. And we designed it that way.
- 56:37Yeah, yeah. We want to be able to, you know,
- 56:40go to different places and experience other people's
- 56:43lifestyles and stuff like that, so.
- 56:46Yeah, take it to the rodeos and stuff like that and be able to
- 56:48do that and. Yeah.
- 56:50So, yeah, yeah. Definitely got to get you and
- 56:52Colton on too. Yeah, that'd be fun.
- 56:54Yeah, that would be fun. All righty chirping.
- 56:57From Colton. I'm sure.
- 56:58Yeah. Oh yeah, we'll have.
- 56:58To do that. Yeah.
- 57:00Well, awesome. Well, we appreciate you driving
- 57:02out here from Scottsdale and spending some time with us and
- 57:04teaching us a little bit more about the brand and telling us,
