- 0:00Speaker 1: WKBN. Yes, 3.07 in the afternoon. Another gorgeous day here
- 0:05Speaker 1: in my neck of the woods. Tiffany Boulevard in Boardman,
- 0:07Speaker 1: where our studios are at 77. Sun is shining. And
- 0:11Speaker 1: it's a comfortable, what is it, Tuesday afternoon. We'll be
- 0:14Speaker 1: with you until 6.30 tonight. Guardians pregame at 6.30 on
- 0:18Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN. Well, I know what you're saying, Ron.
- 0:22Speaker 1: What's the top secret number in case we want to
- 0:23Speaker 1: get on a program? All right, it's 330-729-9977.
- 0:25Speaker 2: 330-729-9977. 99-77.
- 0:31Speaker 1: One more time, 330-729-9977. That will get you through to
- 0:38Speaker 1: us here on News Radio 570 WKBN, so keep that
- 0:42Speaker 1: in mind. Well, let's see here. This is from the Trib.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Today is Tuesday, June 2nd. Front page, city officials move
- 0:51Speaker 1: forward with action to quell residents' concerns about potential data centers.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Placing a suspension on any action that would allow one
- 0:59Speaker 1: to enter the community. Now, I'm just asking you this question.
- 1:05Speaker 1: When I read this kind of stuff, what is the fear?
- 1:09Speaker 1: I mean, what is it just based on that's to say, hey,
- 1:13Speaker 1: nothing's happening, but we want to go on record to
- 1:15Speaker 1: say that we want to make sure, let's see, a
- 1:21Speaker 1: suspension on any action that would allow a data center
- 1:25Speaker 1: to enter the community. I mean, why is that? Do
- 1:28Speaker 1: you sense this... fear out there of these things? So
- 1:35Speaker 1: let's see. Officials at Monday's regular council meeting approved a
- 1:39Speaker 1: 12-month moratorium on the construction, placement, or operation of a
- 1:43Speaker 1: data center within a city and declared an emergency. So
- 1:49Speaker 1: let's see what some of these council people had to say.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And the law director drew up the necessary legislation to
- 1:58Speaker 1: For it, on May 18th meeting, said officials normally do
- 2:01Speaker 1: three readings on most matters to allow everyone time to
- 2:04Speaker 1: review the resolution. She said in some instances, however, the
- 2:08Speaker 1: second and third readings are suspended to push through. Typically, though,
- 2:14Speaker 1: we don't like to do this because... Continue on page A3.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I know you're saying, well, why is that, Ron? Because
- 2:22Speaker 1: we like to give the community time to mull things over.
- 2:25Speaker 1: But this is a different situation. The mayor says Ben
- 2:31Speaker 1: Kyle's back in a job. Incidentally, after that accident, he
- 2:35Speaker 1: had reiterated during his reports that the city has received
- 2:39Speaker 1: no proposals regarding Project Milo, an economic development project alongside
- 2:47Speaker 1: Jobs Ohio, a partner of Lake to River Economic Developments,
- 2:51Speaker 1: while he first mentioned in February's 2025 meeting. The discussion
- 2:55Speaker 1: involves an unidentified company exploring a project that promises significant
- 3:00Speaker 1: economic impact and benefit for the city. Kyle confirmed last
- 3:04Speaker 1: month that he signaled an NDA in December 2024 for
- 3:10Speaker 1: the project with the intent of allowing the city to
- 3:14Speaker 1: gather the technical and utility information necessary to see whether
- 3:18Speaker 1: the city could accommodate something of that scale. Cal said
- 3:23Speaker 1: his duty as a mayor is to be unbiased in
- 3:25Speaker 1: economic developments, conversations by collecting information to bring to the
- 3:29Speaker 1: city's planning and zoning commission. That is something that is needed.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That is exactly what has happened during this whole entire process.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The only way the business in question would agree to
- 3:41Speaker 1: give us as necessary information that we needed in order
- 3:44Speaker 1: to evaluate the logistical needs of from our water and
- 3:48Speaker 1: electric department was to be able to sign the NDA.
- 3:52Speaker 1: All right. I guess NDA, what's that, non-disclosure agreement? Kyle
- 3:59Speaker 1: said Villano allowed him to sign the NDA so the
- 4:04Speaker 1: city could get the information. Adding that council was also informed.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It just goes on. Project Milo. Doesn't that sound intriguing?
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, it's just, now you have residents. Also named
- 4:22Speaker 1: the instance of Project Milo being named at past meetings.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Let's see, Kyle referred to it as a light industrial
- 4:31Speaker 1: mixed-use technology project that he would keep residents updated on,
- 4:36Speaker 1: noting that the data center or NDA was never mentioned.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I don't know, but I'm just looking at this kind
- 4:42Speaker 1: of stuff. As you go through this, it's like everybody's
- 4:45Speaker 1: opposed to these data centers. I mean, just here we
- 4:48Speaker 1: go in Hubbard. We don't want one. And I go
- 4:54Speaker 1: back and I say to you, you will all end
- 4:56Speaker 1: up using it. I mean, they certainly have an evil reputation.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It's really strange. It's very strange to me. I understand
- 5:11Speaker 1: people say, okay, well, we're concerned about electric use and
- 5:15Speaker 1: will our rates go up? That's a fair concern to have.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But if they don't locate in your community and locate
- 5:21Speaker 1: anywhere in the grid, the electric grid, which is states, well,
- 5:27Speaker 1: your electric rate would still go up and you wouldn't
- 5:28Speaker 1: get any of the benefits. I mean, it's just what
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm trying to figure out here when it comes to
- 5:35Speaker 1: these data centers. And it seems like so many people
- 5:37Speaker 1: are against so many things. It's just it's strange. It's
- 5:41Speaker 1: very strange. But we shall see.
- 5:43Speaker 2: 330-729-9977.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Are we going to miss the boat? Are we going
- 5:50Speaker 1: to miss the boat? Because so many people seem to
- 5:53Speaker 1: have a fear of data centers without really saying, here
- 5:59Speaker 1: specifically is what is of concern. Here's why we don't
- 6:04Speaker 1: want it in our town. It's almost like there's a
- 6:11Speaker 1: movement to prohibit things and make it fearful. It's very strange. Now,
- 6:17Speaker 1: on a positive note, gas prices today, I saw, were
- 6:20Speaker 1: down like to $ 4. 35, $ 4. 40 a gallon. So gas prices
- 6:28Speaker 1: have come down. Why is that? Why are gas prices
- 6:34Speaker 1: coming down? Did we end the war? Did we reach
- 6:38Speaker 1: an agreement? Is this trade open again? What's going on
- 6:43Speaker 1: as far as gas prices are concerned? Now they're down.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It's interesting when you see these stations that have a
- 6:49Speaker 1: lower price, let's say $ 4 and something, and they're jammed
- 6:55Speaker 1: with cars. And it's all subjective. I mean, it's like
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's still a high price. It's still way higher than
- 7:02Speaker 1: it should be. But, you know, they're jammed with cars,
- 7:05Speaker 1: so I got to top off. I got to fill up.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Like you're getting a deal at $ 435 or $ 440. I
- 7:12Speaker 1: guess it's better than five bucks, right? Obviously. Or $ 4. 85
- 7:18Speaker 1: and that kind of stuff. But needless to say, it's
- 7:20Speaker 1: still a high price. And the war goes on. Can
- 7:26Speaker 1: you call it a war? The war goes on with
- 7:28Speaker 1: no end in sight. There you have it. Now let's
- 7:31Speaker 1: see what awaits me. You're on the air.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Ronald.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Hey, it's Ted the Conservative. Now this is a good
- 7:37Speaker 1: way to start the broadcast.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Hey, down here in the metropolis of Columbiana, gas is
- 7:44Speaker 2: $ 4. 09 a gallon. It actually dropped a few pennies from
- 7:49Speaker 2: what I left earlier.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Isn't it interesting that we're, I didn't want to say bragging,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but we're notifying people, hey, it's just a little bit
- 7:57Speaker 1: above $ 4. It's still high.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean, I guess.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Well, I got to tell you, the reason I called you.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I missed yesterday's program. I was busy. But let's just
- 8:10Speaker 2: listen to the podcast. And I don't know if your
- 8:13Speaker 2: listeners realize the podcast is after. But I thought you
- 8:17Speaker 2: had a great show. And the greatest part about the
- 8:19Speaker 2: podcast is when certain callers call that upset you and
- 8:24Speaker 2: just have no desire to hear anything they say, you
- 8:28Speaker 2: can just fast forward to them. And I did that.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Oh, see?
- 8:32Speaker 2: How about that? I thought you had a great show.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I thought J.J.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Was good.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So you fast-forwarded. Basically, you heard the open, fast-forwarded to
- 8:39Speaker 1: the ending of the show and said, oh, that's a
- 8:41Speaker 1: good show.
- 8:42Speaker 2: No, no, I listened to all of it except one guy.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I just ignore him as soon as the anti-Israel stuff starts.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I just fast forward him. But I thought JJ was good.
- 8:51Speaker 2: JJ's a good guy. Emmanuel's angry. Then you had Jake
- 8:54Speaker 2: from State Farm, I think. Isn't that the guy's name, Jake? Yes. Yes.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You've got to give him that name. That's got to
- 9:01Speaker 2: be Jake from State Farm.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Monday's program was where I revealed this is I spent
- 9:07Speaker 1: all kinds of time over the weekend doing my oil
- 9:10Speaker 1: research and reading these which is, there's four main ones
- 9:16Speaker 1: I've come to realize, four that are like the biggest
- 9:19Speaker 1: four in the country. And so I'm through two of them.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And frankly, I'll have to see next weekend if I
- 9:27Speaker 1: go through the other two.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Well, I was glad you got your therapy session out
- 9:32Speaker 2: of the week early. You and Boss Lady, I was
- 9:34Speaker 2: glad she was able to sit you on the couch
- 9:37Speaker 2: for a while and get you straightened out.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Although somebody sent me a thing that said... Once again,
- 9:43Speaker 1: where was this? Former college building to be demolished. The
- 9:49Speaker 1: Eastern Gateway project looks like that's underway. Do you ever
- 9:53Speaker 1: remember any public input on this? I mean, or is
- 9:56Speaker 1: this just something that was shoved on us, gang? So
- 9:58Speaker 1: we're going to pay to... Who was an excellent call? Oh,
- 10:01Speaker 1: Rich the pharmacist yesterday.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I heard Rich talking about expansion of the cement.
- 10:08Speaker 1: A little beyond my engineering skills. He's got a call
- 10:14Speaker 1: again today. He brought up an excellent point. He said
- 10:16Speaker 1: that the Port Authority owns this Eastern Gateway building, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: it costs them like $ 25, 000 a month just to have
- 10:22Speaker 1: the building. You know, because you've got to heat it
- 10:27Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and then you made reference to some
- 10:31Speaker 2: information I sent you about a year ago. So you
- 10:33Speaker 2: do read the stuff that's sent to you about the Pittsburgh,
- 10:36Speaker 2: about the buildings in downtown Pittsburgh and the mess that
- 10:39Speaker 2: they got down there. You commented on that.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Wasn't that interesting? Now tell that story. That is where
- 10:45Speaker 1: I'm glad you did that. This was a beautiful building.
- 10:48Speaker 1: It was a bank building in downtown Pittsburgh. And it
- 10:52Speaker 1: wasn't dilapidated or anything. It was just a huge building
- 10:55Speaker 1: that the bank had everything in there leaving it.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And they can't find tenants for those buildings. And it's
- 11:04Speaker 2: basically going to be cheaper to take them down and
- 11:08Speaker 2: to keep them up and running because you've got to
- 11:10Speaker 2: keep utilities on. You've got to keep the water lines unfroze.
- 11:14Speaker 2: There's a lot of maintenance, just like the building downtown.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But I'm surprised, $ 25, 000 a month. That seems really high
- 11:21Speaker 2: to me. I would question that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Well, remember the article that you sent me. They were
- 11:27Speaker 1: saying they were talking to, in this article, this was
- 11:31Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh. I wish I could remember the name of
- 11:32Speaker 1: that bank building. But they were talking to a guy
- 11:38Speaker 1: that was a developer of these big buildings. And so
- 11:42Speaker 1: they said to him, would you take this building? He said,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I wouldn't take that building if they gave it to me.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And you would say, well, what's going on here? And
- 11:51Speaker 1: his point in that was how expensive it is to
- 11:55Speaker 1: let it sit there to try to find that many
- 11:57Speaker 1: tenants and what it's going to cost you just to
- 12:00Speaker 1: maintain that building while it's sitting there. And if it
- 12:03Speaker 1: doesn't work out, how expensive it is to take that
- 12:07Speaker 1: building down. He said so.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You've got to take it down the same way they
- 12:10Speaker 2: build them, basically. Yeah. In downtown Pittsburgh, it's so compact. Plus,
- 12:15Speaker 2: we're forgetting to mention taxes. See, that was a Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 2: that wasn't a government-owned building, so they're paying taxes on
- 12:21Speaker 2: all that stuff.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I mean, that was a fascinating article, because you looked
- 12:25Speaker 1: at this building and said, oh, it's a beautiful building,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but it's so big, they said, by the time you
- 12:31Speaker 1: fill that building, you'll be broke.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and you've got to take it down just like
- 12:35Speaker 2: you build it, floor by floor, and it's very expensive
- 12:38Speaker 2: to take it down. I forget it was millions of
- 12:40Speaker 2: dollars to take it down, but it's actually, over the
- 12:43Speaker 2: long haul, it's cheaper to spend that money now and
- 12:46Speaker 2: take it down and repurpose that property for something else,
- 12:48Speaker 2: because you'll never fill those buildings.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, just..
- 12:51Speaker 2: It was interesting.
- 12:53Speaker 1: This whole demolishing Eastern Gateway to make a county building,
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. And the problem is that the county's on
- 13:01Speaker 1: the hook for all the bonds and expenditures, and yet
- 13:04Speaker 1: the public really hasn't had any say-so on it at all.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Well, you know, we elect officeholders to make decisions, and
- 13:11Speaker 2: if we're not happy with those decisions, we have a say,
- 13:13Speaker 2: but I don't think we know enough to really... I
- 13:20Speaker 2: don't know enough. I should rephrase that. I can't take
- 13:22Speaker 2: a strong position on it one way or the other,
- 13:24Speaker 2: to be honest with you. Because I know that that
- 13:26Speaker 2: place that they're in right now, that Southside Annex, I mean,
- 13:30Speaker 2: you go down there and it's just nothing good about it.
- 13:33Speaker 2: And I will say this. I agree with Rich. I
- 13:36Speaker 2: think last week Rich called about the Board of Elections.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I think that's a horrible location to take people down
- 13:41Speaker 2: to Glenwood Avenue. I mean, it's just not a safe area.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Why not go out to Borden? I just don't get it.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Same thing with the Board of Elections. I mean, the
- 13:50Speaker 2: county building that you said they purchased. I don't know
- 13:53Speaker 2: if it was the right decision or not. I haven't
- 13:55Speaker 2: seen numbers. Geographically, why Youngstown? Why stayed in downtown? I
- 14:00Speaker 2: don't know. I think there's a lot of good options
- 14:03Speaker 2: in Borden that you've talked about, but I don't have
- 14:06Speaker 2: all the information, so I can't say that they made
- 14:08Speaker 2: the right or wrong decision.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Right, but I mean, it's like, what's wrong with, it's just,
- 14:14Speaker 1: you sit back and wonder. The Patriot building in Austintown
- 14:18Speaker 1: would have been a great location. There's a lot of
- 14:20Speaker 1: property out there. Yeah, and a lot of parking. Well,
- 14:23Speaker 1: we've got to put some money in to fix it up.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It's not that old of a building.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I even like the idea of going into the Southern
- 14:30Speaker 2: Park Mall. You've got so many empty anchor stores that
- 14:33Speaker 2: were out there. Why not turn that into a government complex?
- 14:36Speaker 2: You've got a food court there. It might help save
- 14:40Speaker 2: that property. You know, let's be honest, malls are dying
- 14:44Speaker 2: and that place is on life support. So, you know,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I don't know how much thought was put into it.
- 14:50Speaker 2: You know, we really don't know. Like you said, there
- 14:51Speaker 2: wasn't public discussion and that's unfortunate.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, because there should be more put into it. What
- 14:59Speaker 1: was Rich saying? He was outside yesterday. He sent me
- 15:01Speaker 1: a picture. He was outside the IBM building yesterday, and
- 15:05Speaker 1: he said, well, what about this place? Hang on a second.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It's Ted the Conservative. When you start a day with
- 15:10Speaker 1: Ted the Conservative, it's a good day. All right. I
- 15:16Speaker 1: got to ask Ted the Conservative a few things here. Now, Ted,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm going to bounce this off of you, all right,
- 15:21Speaker 1: because you're a straight shooter. And it's hard for me
- 15:25Speaker 1: to explain this to folks, but it's really bothering me,
- 15:29Speaker 1: this idea of having this, what is it, fighting or
- 15:33Speaker 1: wrestling or whatever Trump wants to do on the White
- 15:35Speaker 1: House property. I mean, I'm sitting back thinking, okay, when
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think of the White House property, I think of
- 15:40Speaker 1: pardoning the turkeys at Thanksgiving and the Easter egg hunt
- 15:44Speaker 1: for kids. It seems to me, having events like this
- 15:50Speaker 1: on the White House grounds, It bothers me as much
- 15:54Speaker 1: as when Biden had that whole transgender thing. I'm not
- 15:58Speaker 1: saying it's sacred ground, but it kind of is sacred ground.
- 16:02Speaker 1: What are your thoughts?
- 16:04Speaker 2: I agree with you. I agree. I don't think that's
- 16:08Speaker 2: the proper location. Just as I didn't agree when Biden
- 16:11Speaker 2: had the transgender gay pride festival out there. I don't
- 16:16Speaker 2: agree with it. But, again, I'm not a president of
- 16:19Speaker 2: the United States. That's Donald Trump's decision, and that's what
- 16:22Speaker 2: he's doing. And now I'm.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Going to bounce another thing off of you.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Every single thing that goes on in the world, you'll
- 16:29Speaker 2: drive yourself nuts. I think you've got to always look
- 16:32Speaker 2: at the glass half full.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I agree.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Enjoy the ride while we're here.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 16:36Speaker 2: You need to sit on the couch for a little bit,
- 16:38Speaker 2: have the boss lady call, and she can set you
- 16:40Speaker 2: down for 30 minutes and get you cleared up.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Give me my therapy. But see, I'm going to ask
- 16:45Speaker 1: you one other question, which I brought up yesterday. Also,
- 16:48Speaker 1: I am not offended. Now, this isn't anything against Trump.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I voted for him. I would certainly vote for him
- 16:54Speaker 1: over Kamala Harris again. But here's the reality. When the
- 16:58Speaker 1: court said, you've got to take your name off the
- 16:59Speaker 1: Kennedy Center, you can't put it up there. I'm cool
- 17:03Speaker 1: with that. I mean, it's the Kennedy Center. Trump's got
- 17:05Speaker 1: to stop putting his name on everything. He's got to
- 17:08Speaker 1: stop with this. So I'm going to have these fights.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Some of this stuff is it's just not.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You know, I agree with you. You're spot on. And
- 17:16Speaker 2: I think it goes to what I said something a
- 17:18Speaker 2: long time ago, and people got really– the MAGA cult
- 17:22Speaker 2: didn't like it. And there was some backlash.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Do you remember when I argued with you about the
- 17:29Speaker 1: MAGA cult, and then I had to admit how a
- 17:32Speaker 1: year later you were right?
- 17:34Speaker 2: You know, I'm not wrong on many things. I'm not perfect,
- 17:38Speaker 2: but I think I have a lot of life experience.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And I think I could, you know, look at situations
- 17:45Speaker 2: and call a spade a spade, you know?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 2: But that cult is dangerous. I'll tell you what, they're
- 17:51Speaker 2: just as dangerous as the AOC cult. Trust me. You know,
- 17:55Speaker 2: whether you're far right or far left, that's not good.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I'd rather you be far right because, you know, I
- 18:01Speaker 2: don't want to deal with anyone that's on the left
- 18:03Speaker 2: of center. But, you know, it is. It's a cult.
- 18:06Speaker 2: You know, you can't speak against them. But the crazy
- 18:09Speaker 2: thing I'm seeing happening, Ron, I don't know if you
- 18:11Speaker 2: are too, but that cult is changing a little bit.
- 18:15Speaker 2: They're becoming very disgruntled with decisions, whether it's Iran or
- 18:19Speaker 2: the wrestling thing, you know. And some of those cult
- 18:22Speaker 2: members are now saying... that they're upset with him for
- 18:25Speaker 2: one thing or the other. Some are upset because he's
- 18:28Speaker 2: not bombed the living hell out of Iran yet. You know,
- 18:30Speaker 2: and he keeps dragging his feet there. They think someone,
- 18:33Speaker 2: some of the cult members think he should just destroy them.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So it's crazy. It's a crazy world. But I'll tell
- 18:39Speaker 2: you this too. Something else that's crazy is the reach
- 18:42Speaker 2: of the Ron verb show. How many people listen to
- 18:45Speaker 2: your program? I'm amazed. I got to tell you, ever
- 18:48Speaker 2: since my picture with Christine Oliver was put out there
- 18:51Speaker 2: on social media, uh, I go places and people come
- 18:55Speaker 2: up to me and they say, Ted, the conservative. I'm like,
- 18:57Speaker 2: holy crap. Let me run and hide. I'm getting noticed
- 19:01Speaker 2: from the wrong verb show. And I'm not lying to you.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Because you are Ted, the conservative.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been asked to take pictures. I had a
- 19:09Speaker 2: buddy who I haven't seen in person since high school,
- 19:13Speaker 2: but we talk on Facebook and we're friends. And one
- 19:16Speaker 2: day he said, holy crap, you're Ted, the conservative. And
- 19:20Speaker 2: I'm just amazed at the outreach of the Ron Verb
- 19:23Speaker 2: program that I've lost a little bit of privacy now. Yeah,
- 19:27Speaker 2: but you're Ted the Conservative.
- 19:31Speaker 1: You got away with it for 30 years before you
- 19:33Speaker 1: were outed.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm really a quiet guy. I keep to myself.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I don't do much, you know. I'm an introverted guy.
- 19:41Speaker 1: A quiet guy, folks. Listen to this. A quiet guy.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Ted the Conservative, a quiet guy. that called, who asked
- 19:47Speaker 1: me the key question. If you had to do it
- 19:48Speaker 1: over again, would you vote for Romney over Obama, even
- 19:51Speaker 1: though you hate Romney? And I had to admit to him, yes.
- 19:55Speaker 1: It was like the biggest defeat, because I can't stand
- 19:58Speaker 1: Mitt Romney. And he said, now, if you had to
- 19:59Speaker 1: do it again. And I said, yes. And Ted the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Conservative said to me, see, I told you so. And
- 20:04Speaker 1: then Ted the Conservative, about a year ago, I argued
- 20:07Speaker 1: over the mega cult. And then about a year later,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I had to say, boy, he's right. And then he
- 20:12Speaker 1: came back. It's not easy. It's not. All right, Ted
- 20:15Speaker 1: the Conservative. Thank you.
- 20:17Speaker 2: You have a good day.
- 20:17Speaker 1: All right. It's back in a bit. Hang in there.
- 20:22Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKVN.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yes, 335.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Ted the Conservative is a smart guy. I mean, he's
- 20:31Speaker 1: always got an interesting take on everything. Just when he
- 20:35Speaker 1: figures stuff out. I've probably talked to Ted the Conservative
- 20:40Speaker 1: for every bit of 30-plus years, if I had to
- 20:44Speaker 1: say so. And he's always been Ted the Conservative. This
- 20:47Speaker 1: guy has been conservative before conservative was cool, to quote
- 20:52Speaker 1: the country song. You're on the air.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Fine.
- 20:58Speaker 6: No, this should be relaxing to you.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 21:02Speaker 6: Breathe in and breathe out.
- 21:03Speaker 1: All right, thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, it's the boss lady.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I always tense up a little bit. You never know.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Oh, no, this is a good one. So I was just,
- 21:13Speaker 6: you know, all this AI data center talk. I was
- 21:18Speaker 6: doing some research. And did you see what NVIDIA.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Came out with yesterday?
- 21:23Speaker 1: I did not.
- 21:24Speaker 6: I think it was yesterday that they came out with it.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Did you happen to see it?
- 21:29Speaker 2: No.
- 21:29Speaker 1: What did they come out with?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:33Speaker 6: It's so crazy. So it's a tip that you put
- 21:36Speaker 6: into your computer that turns your computer into an AI machine.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Coupled with, there's a company out there, and I read
- 21:45Speaker 6: this again, or not again, I read this this morning.
- 21:49Speaker 6: There's another company out there called Span, and they basically
- 21:53Speaker 6: put a unit on your home And now listen, I'm
- 21:56Speaker 6: no electrical expert or electricity expert, but all the, I
- 22:00Speaker 6: think the problem that people have and the fear that
- 22:04Speaker 6: people have with these data centers are massively in consumption.
- 22:07Speaker 6: What happens with the water? There are these big, clunky,
- 22:11Speaker 6: your farming land, all this stuff, right?
- 22:13Speaker 2: The environmental.
- 22:14Speaker 6: And then what tax benefits? I don't think people are
- 22:17Speaker 6: against technology. They just don't want to carry the cost.
- 22:20Speaker 6: with a downside to the environment and little benefit in
- 22:24Speaker 6: terms of cost to them, right?
- 22:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:26Speaker 6: So I think with NVIDIA's being a, product that they
- 22:33Speaker 6: came out with with this chip coupled with this new
- 22:36Speaker 6: technology span which is basically going to reduce pressure on
- 22:40Speaker 6: the electrical grid so it basically utilizes the because everybody
- 22:44Speaker 6: has like 200 amps on their home but you very
- 22:46Speaker 6: rarely utilize the 200 amps i guess is what i
- 22:49Speaker 6: read it's a it's a device that you put on
- 22:52Speaker 6: your home and it powers.
- 22:56Speaker 1: The the uh.
- 23:00Speaker 6: The same thing that a data center would do, except
- 23:03Speaker 6: it's homes do it and homes actually receive all of
- 23:07Speaker 6: the benefits. So they would not pay their electric. They
- 23:10Speaker 6: would pay all of their electric and utilities for running
- 23:13Speaker 6: this thing.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:15Speaker 3: It's just very interesting.
- 23:16Speaker 6: And if you think about how fast all these conversations
- 23:19Speaker 6: are moving and how massive these data centers are, imagine.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Throwing up these data centers and they're massive.
- 23:26Speaker 6: And then somebody comes out with this little gadget that
- 23:29Speaker 6: The homeowner reaps all the benefits. They get all of
- 23:32Speaker 6: their electricity paid for. It's not putting as much pressure
- 23:35Speaker 6: on the system. And then this NVIDIA chip is local.
- 23:41Speaker 6: It's not relying heavily on the cloud. And I think
- 23:45Speaker 6: it all goes back to, are we moving so fast
- 23:51Speaker 6: or too fast?
- 23:52Speaker 3: Do you hear what I'm saying?
- 23:54Speaker 1: Well, I haven't seen anything about that chip. Let's see.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Microsoft unveils new AI model to lessen reliance on open
- 24:06Speaker 1: AI and lower costs for developers. That's one of the headlines.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon says markets are in greed
- 24:16Speaker 1: mode as AI companies seek billions. For Alec, Bitcoin drops
- 24:23Speaker 1: back under $ 70, 000. Uh, let's see. S and P 500.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's a little changed. Tuesday is alphabet slides. I'm just
- 24:32Speaker 1: trying to, I'm going over the headlines. I don't see
- 24:34Speaker 1: anything about it, but, and I.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Don't really, it's pretty interesting.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I don't understand it either. I'm not, I'm.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Not, I, yeah, I'm not extremely, um, technical.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Well, here's what I wanted to ask you about since,
- 24:50Speaker 1: since you're on the phone line, what's the deal with, uh,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Let's see. My buddy sent me this article. Okay. Okay.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Former college building to be demolished and replaced with the
- 25:03Speaker 1: Eastern Gateway Project. Oh. I mean, this is basically— Do
- 25:08Speaker 1: you remember.
- 25:08Speaker 3: When I called you?
- 25:09Speaker 6: Don't you remember I called into the show and I
- 25:11Speaker 6: said I would have loved to have been in the
- 25:13Speaker 6: meeting where those guys from the Port Authority approached the
- 25:18Speaker 6: commissioners and said, I got an amazing idea. We'll give
- 25:21Speaker 6: you back— you know, you give us.
- 25:23Speaker 3: The Patriot Building and we'll give you the Gateway Building.
- 25:25Speaker 6: And those three looked at each other and giggled and said.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Oh, we got a great deal. Don't you remember my call?
- 25:30Speaker 3: I did a whole skit.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but I do remember your call.
- 25:33Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 25:35Speaker 1: It's crazy. Did you hear Rich, the pharmacist, yesterday?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Did you hear what he was saying? I mean, I
- 25:40Speaker 1: got to get him to reiterate that today where he
- 25:43Speaker 1: was saying it was cost so much a month for
- 25:46Speaker 1: the dollar.
- 25:47Speaker 6: And it was basically a scam.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Like, you know, it was like a Swiss and Bay.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Like, oh, they thought they were getting this great deal
- 25:53Speaker 6: for a dollar. And then you've got structural problems with
- 25:56Speaker 6: some concrete beams that apparently explode and all the utility
- 26:00Speaker 6: costs are through the roof. And it's going to cost
- 26:02Speaker 6: millions to just You know, demolish this thing.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I mean, it sounds like we got swindled here. Right.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And so like Richard Pharmacist, I thought he made a
- 26:11Speaker 1: great point. What a great call where he said, really,
- 26:14Speaker 1: did the Port Authority push us on the county to
- 26:18Speaker 1: unload this albatross? from around their neck.
- 26:21Speaker 3: They did, and they got back the Patriot building. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 3: they did.
- 26:25Speaker 6: Well, it's not their fault. You can't hate the player,
- 26:27Speaker 6: hate the game. I mean, if I was them, I
- 26:30Speaker 6: probably wouldn't, you know, if I see three people, they're
- 26:32Speaker 6: going to bob their heads, yeah, and think this was
- 26:34Speaker 6: an amazing idea, and I could sell them, you know,
- 26:36Speaker 6: popsicles in hell. I would, you know, probably sell them
- 26:40Speaker 6: popsicles in hell, too, I guess.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, so they unload... Now I got
- 26:47Speaker 1: another follow-up question. So they unload this building and the
- 26:50Speaker 1: expense of tearing it down and the expense of maintaining
- 26:54Speaker 1: it monthly, and we get stuck with bonds that are
- 26:58Speaker 1: going to be our responsibility, and yet we never have
- 27:00Speaker 1: a say-so on it. Which leads me to my next question.
- 27:03Speaker 1: What is the deal here where they're talking about, like,
- 27:07Speaker 1: for example, bottom dollar, if the Board of Elections would
- 27:10Speaker 1: move to the bottom dollar, they'll rent it for 20
- 27:12Speaker 1: years at like $ 25, 000 a month or something. Why wouldn't
- 27:15Speaker 1: we own it?
- 27:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I don't understand this. Yeah, if they
- 27:23Speaker 6: stay in Youngstown, why? The city has a vested interest
- 27:28Speaker 6: in them staying in Youngstown.
- 27:30Speaker 1: But it's a county office. Exactly. So if the.
- 27:33Speaker 6: City wants them to stay in Youngstown, they can provide
- 27:36Speaker 6: them with the benefit to do so, is my point.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Well, I mean, they're trying to say, oh, you sell
- 27:42Speaker 1: a building to the Port Authority for a dollar. Then
- 27:45Speaker 1: the Board of Elections will rent it from who? The
- 27:47Speaker 1: Port Authority or somebody? I mean, I don't get any
- 27:50Speaker 1: of this kind of stuff. There's another thing Rich was saying.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's a horrible location based on where it's at, how
- 27:56Speaker 1: much money you've got to put into that building. The
- 27:58Speaker 1: parking lot isn't big enough. And it's just a horrible location.
- 28:03Speaker 1: But it seems like, oh, well, let's push that building
- 28:07Speaker 1: as opposed to the Patriot building. Either way, I keep saying,
- 28:11Speaker 1: why shouldn't a county own a building and maintain a
- 28:13Speaker 1: building so that you're not stuck just paying rent forever?
- 28:18Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 28:20Speaker 6: I think we give tax abatements everywhere.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Why are they going to..
- 28:23Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 28:24Speaker 6: Like, you're going to charge a county office for a building.
- 28:28Speaker 7: That nobody's using?
- 28:31Speaker 6: When you're going to get their income tax anyway?
- 28:34Speaker 3: I mean..
- 28:36Speaker 1: I just don't get it. I'm just trying to figure
- 28:38Speaker 1: it all out. Because I've said it before, and I
- 28:40Speaker 1: would say it to you when people say, well, Youngstown's
- 28:43Speaker 1: the hub and all that. I think Boardman's the hub.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Boardman is the economic hub of Mahoning County. I mean,
- 28:50Speaker 1: that's where your main commerce is in a strip. I
- 28:54Speaker 1: don't think it's just because Youngstown has these tall buildings
- 28:57Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. I wouldn't say that's
- 28:59Speaker 1: the economic hub of Mahoning County. Boardman would be it.
- 29:05Speaker 6: I would like to see, if you're talking about moving
- 29:09Speaker 6: the board of elections, how many people vote that have
- 29:14Speaker 6: to come from the city of Youngstown versus come from
- 29:16Speaker 6: the other areas? I think you're going to see that
- 29:19Speaker 6: people from the other areas are voting at a higher
- 29:22Speaker 6: rate than the people coming from the city of Youngstown
- 29:24Speaker 6: would be another thing I think they should look at.
- 29:26Speaker 6: Because where you're trying to put it in approximate, proximity.
- 29:32Speaker 3: That is close to the people that are going to
- 29:34Speaker 3: use it, I would suspect, right?
- 29:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
- 29:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I mean, like the health department. out in Austintown. Well,
- 29:41Speaker 1: what's wrong with that? I mean, that's a pretty central location.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Why shouldn't it? Some of this stuff just doesn't make
- 29:47Speaker 1: a lick of sense to me. I mean, just from a,
- 29:50Speaker 1: just from a, what do you say, a Joe Bagadona
- 29:54Speaker 1: citizen perspective, it's like, well, what are they thinking here?
- 29:57Speaker 3: Now, you know I got booed by my husband last
- 29:59Speaker 3: night when he came home.
- 30:00Speaker 6: He heard me on the radio.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Why did he boo you?
- 30:03Speaker 6: He booed me because I was soft and I should
- 30:05Speaker 6: have been more pro- wrestling on the White House lawn.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Now, seriously, I think it shocks most of our listeners
- 30:19Speaker 1: that you would even like wrestling. I mean, it's a
- 30:24Speaker 1: little bit sad. But needless to say, no, I mean,
- 30:29Speaker 1: it doesn't seem like an appropriate thing to have. Stand
- 30:32Speaker 1: your ground. Don't let that bully of her husband of
- 30:34Speaker 1: yours try to push you around. Here's the reality. To me,
- 30:38Speaker 1: it's like classless.
- 30:39Speaker 6: It's going to be the greatest MMA card. It's going
- 30:41Speaker 6: to be the greatest card of all time, and nothing
- 30:44Speaker 6: brings people together, both sides of the aisle. Even countries
- 30:48Speaker 6: will be watching. That's how big of a massive deal
- 30:51Speaker 6: it is. So he booed me. I got booed. I mean,
- 30:53Speaker 6: I went in soft. He said I should have went
- 30:55Speaker 6: in stronger and held my ground.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but the reality is it doesn't belong at the
- 31:00Speaker 1: White House or on the White House property.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he's calling it a celebration.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Well..
- 31:07Speaker 6: A celebration of the 250th, and, you know, and you're
- 31:11Speaker 6: going to have some country bands.
- 31:12Speaker 3: You're going to have some.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Bands there, some music.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I mean, what's next? Are we going to have, like,
- 31:16Speaker 1: it's going to be like the Mahoney County Fair? Are
- 31:18Speaker 1: we going to have the zipper and the Ferris wheel?
- 31:20Speaker 1: You might.
- 31:22Speaker 6: You might have some circus clowns.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I mean, it's sacred. It's supposed to be special ground.
- 31:28Speaker 1: It's our... It seems like there's this aspect of Trump
- 31:32Speaker 1: that's a little bit too much of a showman and
- 31:35Speaker 1: not enough of the sanctity of that property, the history
- 31:39Speaker 1: of that property. That's what I'm trying to say.
- 31:41Speaker 6: Do you think they should have anyone there is the question?
- 31:44Speaker 1: I don't think they should have. No, I don't think that. Listen,
- 31:48Speaker 1: you can have like a fireworks for Trump. For the celebration.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You can have kids with the Easter egg hunt. I
- 31:57Speaker 1: love it when they pardon Tom the turkey every year.
- 32:00Speaker 1: That kind of stuff. I don't want to see that
- 32:03Speaker 1: transgender stuff that Biden did. And I don't want to
- 32:05Speaker 1: see the, whatever this fight of the century at the
- 32:08Speaker 1: White House is. This isn't a, this is not a, look,
- 32:12Speaker 1: Covelli Center. This isn't like an event place. You were
- 32:17Speaker 1: in agreement yesterday. Don't let your husband intimidate you. You
- 32:20Speaker 1: know as well as I do. Listen, stand your ground, sister.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Here's the reality. I mean, I go along with the courts.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I thought when I first heard it, I thought they
- 32:31Speaker 1: were joking. The Kennedy Trump Center. I thought, are they kidding?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Is this a joke? But it wasn't a joke. And
- 32:38Speaker 1: it's like, what the hell is his name doing on
- 32:40Speaker 1: that now? Oh, whatever this board is or whatever, put
- 32:44Speaker 1: it on some board I'm sure he put there, whatever.
- 32:46Speaker 1: And it's like, get his name off of there. Some
- 32:49Speaker 1: of this stuff has got to stop. It's the Kennedy Center.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I'm glad the judge says you can't put Trump's name
- 32:54Speaker 1: on that. Enough of some of this nonsense. Enough.
- 32:58Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I can respect that. I can respect that.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Well, I certainly hope you can because I'm sure when
- 33:05Speaker 1: he comes home tonight, he's going to throw another temper tantrum.
- 33:08Speaker 6: He may not cook steak tonight.
- 33:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 33:11Speaker 6: I didn't start anything for dinner, so I may be
- 33:14Speaker 6: starving tonight.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Well, Taco Bell or whatever. You starve.
- 33:19Speaker 6: And it cooks zero.
- 33:20Speaker 1: That's right. Or go down to that Rican place or
- 33:23Speaker 1: whatever it is that you like.
- 33:25Speaker 6: The Red Rican. It's delicious. Everybody should try it.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I mean, go do that, and you won't have to worry.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Don't be held hostage to him being the king of barbecue.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I mean, come on, man.
- 33:35Speaker 6: I told you I won't do it. I burned my eyebrow.
- 33:39Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. You stand your ground with that guy.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Tell him to start.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I'm going to have him call in.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I'm going to have him call in. Shape up or
- 33:48Speaker 1: ship out. Lay that on him. Tell him that. Tell
- 33:53Speaker 1: him to start, you know, agree. He's not supposed to
- 33:58Speaker 1: be disagreeing with you. That's not how it works in
- 33:59Speaker 1: my house. Let me tell you that right now.
- 34:04Speaker 3: I think she probably does plenty disagree with you.
- 34:07Speaker 1: No, I agree with that. I really say, is that
- 34:11Speaker 1: what I'm thinking? And she says, yes. And I say, absolutely.
- 34:13Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 34:14Speaker 3: See that?
- 34:15Speaker 6: There you go.
- 34:15Speaker 1: That's the way it's supposed to be. All right. Now,
- 34:18Speaker 1: if you find out..
- 34:19Speaker 3: I sent you those articles.
- 34:20Speaker 6: I sent you two articles, both on Span and on
- 34:22Speaker 6: the NVIDIA chip. It's pretty cool.
- 34:24Speaker 1: All right.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Think about it.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I think it might change all of this.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'm going to have to research. Thank you. It's the
- 34:28Speaker 1: boss lady. Thank you. She's my therapist on News Radio
- 34:33Speaker 1: 570 WQN. I just... The best point... I thought this
- 34:43Speaker 1: was a really good point when we talk about these
- 34:45Speaker 1: data centers. Brought to our attention by the great G2.
- 34:52Speaker 1: And he brought up something. He says, okay, when we build,
- 34:54Speaker 1: let's say we build all these data centers. And you
- 34:57Speaker 1: are familiar with the fact that they're giant. These giant
- 35:00Speaker 1: buildings are these data centers. They're huge. And he was saying,
- 35:09Speaker 1: what happens with as fast as technology advances? And those
- 35:18Speaker 1: buildings become outdated in 10 years. The technology is moving
- 35:26Speaker 1: so fast that when they build these data centers and
- 35:30Speaker 1: these huge facilities, what happens is technology marches on and
- 35:34Speaker 1: everything gets smaller, and you don't need that much space anymore.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And he said there has to be any community that
- 35:42Speaker 1: has a... and it should have some type of agreement
- 35:47Speaker 1: to say what happens if you abandon the data center?
- 35:53Speaker 1: Who's going to be responsible for either emptying it out
- 35:57Speaker 1: or demolishing it? Because there's so many of them. Unless
- 36:01Speaker 1: you can repurpose these giant buildings into something like an
- 36:05Speaker 1: Amazon warehouse, but how many of those do you need? Anyway,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I thought that was a really good point that he
- 36:09Speaker 1: brought up the other day. What do you do long-term?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Because technology is moving tremendously. Like, we have a whole
- 36:17Speaker 1: section over here at the radio station that has all
- 36:20Speaker 1: of this computer stuff in it and more. And it
- 36:25Speaker 1: is shrinking. This room, the amount of space that is
- 36:29Speaker 1: needed as the technology advances is shrinking tremendously. All right,
- 36:33Speaker 1: 3.56 in the afternoon. Here's something I just thought was interesting.
- 36:45Speaker 1: State Rep. Tex Fisher, whose eligibility the vindicator says as
- 36:48Speaker 1: a candidate in 2024 was decided by the Ohio Secretary
- 36:52Speaker 1: of State because of a name change, introduced legislation that
- 36:56Speaker 1: would not require candidates to use their former names on
- 36:59Speaker 1: future ballots. Fisher from Canfield said he hopes the state
- 37:04Speaker 1: legislature could pass a bill after the November 3rd election.
- 37:08Speaker 1: I'm not sure of the prospects, Fisher said, of the bill,
- 37:11Speaker 1: but it's something that should be addressed. Fisher changed his
- 37:14Speaker 1: name May 19, 2020, from Austin James Fisher to Austin
- 37:22Speaker 1: James Texford Fisher. So everybody calls him Tex Fisher, but
- 37:29Speaker 1: so his name is Austin James Fisher, and he changed
- 37:34Speaker 1: his name to Austin James Texford Fisher. Isn't that interesting?
- 37:40Speaker 1: Under state law, If any person desiring to become a
- 37:43Speaker 1: candidate for public office has had a change of name
- 37:46Speaker 1: within five years immediately preceding the filing of his statement
- 37:50Speaker 1: of candidacy, both his statements and nominating petitions must contain
- 37:55Speaker 1: immediately following the person's present name, the person's former name.
- 38:00Speaker 1: You know, formerly known as Prince. The law doesn't apply
- 38:07Speaker 1: to those who change your name through marriage or to
- 38:10Speaker 1: a candidate who was once before so marriage doesn't apply
- 38:17Speaker 1: so okay but isn't that something next time I interview
- 38:21Speaker 1: Tex Fisher I'm going to have to ask him why
- 38:22Speaker 1: did he want to add Texford Austin James Fisher to
- 38:26Speaker 1: Austin James Texford Fisher I think I'm going to change
- 38:30Speaker 1: my name I think it sounds a lot hipper instead
- 38:33Speaker 1: of Ron Verb I'm going to change it to Jerry
- 38:36Speaker 1: Reno I think it has a hipper sound to it
- 38:40Speaker 1: I was born with the name Ron Verb. But with
- 38:43Speaker 1: Jerry Reno, I think I'm going to change it. I'll
- 38:45Speaker 1: be right back. From ABC News.
- 38:52Speaker 5: I'm Michelle Franzen. It's primary day across six states. Today
- 38:56Speaker 5: in California, the race for governor could be a close
- 38:58Speaker 5: call amid a crowded field of candidates. Here's ABC News
- 39:02Speaker 5: political director Avery Harper.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Given the fact that there are so many candidates on
- 39:05Speaker 4: the ballot, and when you look at recent polling, no
- 39:08Speaker 4: one is really running away with this. At last check,
- 39:11Speaker 4: Javier Becerra was atop only by a couple of points
- 39:14Speaker 4: by some estimates. And so we really do have to
- 39:17Speaker 4: wait and see what California does. voters ultimately say. Any
- 39:21Speaker 4: small shift could make a huge impact here.
- 39:23Speaker 5: Voters are also casting ballots in the L.A. mayor's race.
- 39:27Speaker 5: More fallout following weekend protests at Delane Hall in New
- 39:30Speaker 5: Jersey and clashes with law enforcement officers. Newark's mayor announcing
- 39:34Speaker 5: today the city's expanding its lawsuit against the ICE facility
- 39:38Speaker 5: over conditions. ABC's Aaron Katursky has more.
- 39:41Speaker 7: A separate effort by the city of Newark. is to
- 39:43Speaker 7: try to get the place to shut down. And that,
- 39:47Speaker 7: Newark Mayor Raz Baraka says, is probably the ultimate goal,
- 39:53Speaker 7: even as he focuses on trying to secure it so
- 39:55Speaker 7: it's safe for protesters.
- 39:57Speaker 5: Federal authorities deny detainees are not receiving proper treatment. Escalating
- 40:01Speaker 5: tensions between the U.S. and Iran over Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
- 40:05Speaker 5: President Trump yesterday says he called Israel's prime minister, along
- 40:09Speaker 5: with Hezbollah mediators, To get both sides, he says, to
- 40:12Speaker 5: back down, ABC's Karen Travers has new details about the
- 40:15Speaker 5: president's call with Benjamin Netanyahu.
- 40:16Speaker 8: The sources were saying this was a tense phone call
- 40:19Speaker 8: between the president and the prime minister.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Who he has a very close relationship.
- 40:23Speaker 8: With, that the president was angry when he spoke to him,
- 40:26Speaker 8: and that at one point when they were talking, he
- 40:28Speaker 8: said to him, what the expletive are you doing?
- 40:31Speaker 6: He accused Netanyahu.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Of being ungrateful. The Vatican coming out in support of
- 40:35Speaker 5: mandating radio receivers and broadcasts remain fully accessible, especially in vehicles.
- 40:40Speaker 5: It comes as the Digital Networks Act is being debated
- 40:43Speaker 5: at the European level. That regulation aims to reshape Europe's
- 40:47Speaker 5: digital communications landscape.
- 40:48Speaker 1: You're listening to ABC.
