Latest / THE DAILY BRIEF / Trump delivers on MAJOR border milestone
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The term administration, delivering six straight months of zero releases
- 0:05Speaker 1: at the border, but there's still a mess to clean
- 0:07Speaker 1: up from Biden's border crisis over four years. In recent days,
- 0:11Speaker 1: the YUS Border Patrol has nabbed a number of the
- 0:14Speaker 1: legal criminal aliens, including a convicted killer, a Mexican gang member,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and even a Venezuelan hitman. Joining US now is the
- 0:22Speaker 1: Chief of Border Patrol, Mike Banks. Chief, thank you for
- 0:26Speaker 1: being here. I think it's really important because while the
- 0:29Speaker 1: border has been secure in an unprecedented way with six
- 0:34Speaker 1: straight months of zero releases, you guys are still very
- 0:37Speaker 1: busy on your social media feed, which I follow every day.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Just this week, a Venezuelan trend de Arragua hitman was busted.
- 0:46Speaker 1: He was moving drugs from Peru to the US. And
- 0:50Speaker 1: we've seen the war on the drug cartels. But that's
- 0:53Speaker 1: not the only one. You also nabbed A los Zettis,
- 0:56Speaker 1: one of the most dangerous violent Mexican cart tells he
- 1:01Speaker 1: was arrested with a deadly weapon, and the list goes
- 1:04Speaker 1: on and on. The job is far from over, it seems, Chief.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Good morning, Griffin, thanks for having me on. Yeah, you're
- 1:11Speaker 2: absolutely right. So you know, we're seeing unprecedented lows, record lows.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Fifty five years was the last time we saw this
- 1:18Speaker 2: number of loaves in the legal cross border activity. But
- 1:21Speaker 2: we're not waving a victory flag yet. We will not
- 1:23Speaker 2: be satisfied until we achieved complete operational control, which means
- 1:27Speaker 2: that everyone that attempts to enter this country is apprehended, prosecuted,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and then deported. And so you're absolutely right, you know,
- 1:32Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty one crossings yesterday, comparing that to
- 1:36Speaker 2: this time last year where we had tens of thousands crossing,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and so we're very proud of the work the men
- 1:41Speaker 2: and women of the Border Patrol have done in nine
- 1:43Speaker 2: short months. But it's all it's all gas, no breaks downhill.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We are not done. And as you know, we are
- 1:49Speaker 2: assisting ice and over twenty seven cities across the United
- 1:52Speaker 2: States with thousands of agents helping them out. And I'm
- 1:56Speaker 2: often asked, you know, US Border Patrol, what are you
- 1:58Speaker 2: guys doing on the interior. We're exactly that, we're the
- 2:01Speaker 2: United States Border Patrol and we're going to go anywhere
- 2:03Speaker 2: in the United States to enforce our immigration laws.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And our viewers are seeing some video here out of
- 2:07Speaker 1: the Yuma, Arizona sector, but also in Texas in California,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Border Tool continues to harden the border, to put up
- 2:16Speaker 1: wall pieces, to put up more Constantina wire tell me
- 2:19Speaker 1: about that, Yeah, sir, So.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We're gonna put up a significant amount of border wall.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We're going to resume the border wall that was sitting
- 2:26Speaker 2: on the ground under the Biden administration because they refused
- 2:28Speaker 2: to put it up. We've proven over and over again
- 2:30Speaker 2: that border wall works. We're manning that border wall, not
- 2:33Speaker 2: just with the agents, but also with technology, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 2: everything from ground based sensors to UAS's for Unmannaro surveillance
- 2:41Speaker 2: to keep that twenty four to seven persistent surveillance over
- 2:44Speaker 2: our border, and then also continuing to work on the interior.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We're going to be laying approximately nine hundred miles of
- 2:51Speaker 2: our border Booy barrier, which is going to be right
- 2:54Speaker 2: on the international boundary in the center of the river
- 2:56Speaker 2: as our first line of defense, using our wall as
- 2:59Speaker 2: our second line of defense, and we're going to be
- 3:01Speaker 2: laying down miles and miles of that. And so the
- 3:04Speaker 2: expectation is that we'll have over nine hundred miles of
- 3:08Speaker 2: Buoie border barrier and an additional twelve hundred miles of
- 3:11Speaker 2: border wall.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And that's delivering on the president's promise to do just that.
- 3:17Speaker 1: The American people voted for the border wall, and now
- 3:20Speaker 1: you're delivering. I want to come back just to one
- 3:23Speaker 1: thing you said, though, you mentioned we haven't seen loads
- 3:25Speaker 1: like this and over fifty years at the border, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: we saw a few months ago we started to hear
- 3:31Speaker 1: about a trend that is moving towards negative net migration.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Are we still on track for that?
- 3:38Speaker 2: We are. Not only we see a negative net migration,
- 3:40Speaker 2: but we're also seeing those that were starting their journey
- 3:43Speaker 2: to come this way reverse migration. People are starting to leave.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You know, you've seen the numbers touted about the number
- 3:49Speaker 2: of deportations. One of the most one of the things
- 3:51Speaker 2: we're most proud of is a number of people that
- 3:53Speaker 2: are self deporting. They're saying, hey, we're going to take
- 3:55Speaker 2: advantage of the opportunity the US government is giving us
- 3:58Speaker 2: and allow us to leave on our own so that
- 4:02Speaker 2: we can attempt to apply for some type of status
- 4:04Speaker 2: in the future. And so that's my message to anyone
- 4:07Speaker 2: in this country illegally take advantage of the opportunities that we,
- 4:10Speaker 2: the United States Governor, are giving you to leave now
- 4:13Speaker 2: because if you wait until you're apprehended and deported, you
- 4:16Speaker 2: won't be allowed to return.
- 4:17Speaker 1: In Chief, just in the last few seconds, I've got it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Do you want to ask you? The men and women
- 4:20Speaker 1: in Green continue to work. Over the forty three days
- 4:23Speaker 1: of the government shut down, the number of percentage of
- 4:26Speaker 1: assaults on ice and borderatrol up eight thousand percent. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: yet you are continuing to recruit and have people, it
- 4:33Speaker 1: seems they want to be a part of this.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Our recruit numbers are through the roof, Griff, and I
- 4:37Speaker 2: tell you this, you know, imagine that when you have
- 4:39Speaker 2: an administration like President Trump and Secretary of Nome that
- 4:42Speaker 2: actually support the men and women of the US Border Patrol,
- 4:45Speaker 2: allow us to go out there and do our work.
- 4:46Speaker 2: People want to be a part of this mission. This
- 4:48Speaker 2: is an important mission. Border security is national security, and
- 4:53Speaker 2: our recruit numbers are through the roof. We've put over
- 4:55Speaker 2: a thousand new agents on the ground this year, have
- 4:57Speaker 2: a thousand at the academy, and plan on tripling that
- 5:00Speaker 2: next year.
- 5:01Speaker 1: All right, Chief Mike Banks, thank you for your time
- 5:03Speaker 1: and the work you and the men and women of
- 5:05Speaker 1: Green do Thank you.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Sir, thank you.
