Transcript
- Lucas: Hej Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo? Luna: Hej Lucas, yes! What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to the post office to send a letter. Luna: Oh, like the package from last week but smaller. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the first phrase: 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' This means 'I would like to send a letter.' Luna: 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' That sounds good. Lucas: Now you try it. 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' Luna: 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' Lucas: Perfect. You're sending a letter. Next, you need to ask how much a stamp costs. 'Hvad koster et frimærke?' Luna: 'Hvad koster et frimærke?' What does that mean exactly? Lucas: It means 'How much is a stamp?' So imagine you're at the counter and you want a stamp. Luna: Got it. 'Hvad koster et frimærke?' Lucas: Good. You know, sending a letter is a great way to keep in touch. And if you want to support our ability to keep making episodes like this, you can help us out. Luna: Yeah, it really helps keep the podcast ad-free. If you enjoy learning with us, consider supporting at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Exactly. Now, what if your letter is going abroad? Then you need a stamp for abroad. 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' Luna: 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' That's a bit long. Lucas: Break it down: 'Jeg skal bruge' means 'I need', 'et frimærke' is 'a stamp', 'til udlandet' is 'for abroad'. So 'I need a stamp for abroad.' Luna: 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' I think I've got it. Lucas: Great. Now if someone asks where the letter is going, you can say 'Brevet skal til USA' — 'The letter is going to the USA.' Luna: Oh, that's useful. 'Brevet skal til USA.' Lucas: Yes. And finally, after help, say 'Tak for hjælpen' — 'Thanks for your help.' Luna: 'Tak for hjælpen.' I remember that from the supermarket episode. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put it all together in a little scene. Luna, you go to the post office. Luna: Okay. 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' Lucas: The clerk asks where. You say 'Brevet skal til USA.' Luna: 'Brevet skal til USA.' Then 'Hvad koster et frimærke?' Lucas: The clerk says 25 kroner. Then you say 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' Luna: 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' And then 'Tak for hjælpen.' Lucas: Perfect. You've just sent a letter in Danish. Let's review the phrases one more time. Luna: Sure. First: 'Jeg vil gerne sende et brev.' Lucas: 'Hvad koster et frimærke?' Luna: 'Jeg skal bruge et frimærke til udlandet.' Lucas: 'Brevet skal til USA.' Luna: And 'Tak for hjælpen.' Lucas: Fantastic. Practice these at the post office or just for fun. Vi ses næste gang! Luna: Vi ses! Tak for i dag, Lucas. Lucas: Tak for i dag, Luna. And thanks to all our listeners. Keep learning with Fexingo.
