- 0:00Speaker 1: Family owned and operated since 1972. Sevchak Service Center, 2200 Longmire,
- 0:06Speaker 1: just down from the post office in College Station.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Glad to have you with us on a Tuesday edition.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We are filled up this afternoon with stuff, which is
- 0:28Speaker 1: always a good thing. This portion of the show is
- 0:30Speaker 1: brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. We're going to hear
- 0:35Speaker 1: from A & M' s Marco Jones coming up. We've got
- 0:39Speaker 1: a high school report. We're going to do a little baseball.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And you Astro fans, I'm going to throw in a
- 0:47Speaker 1: little bit of Joe Espada, believe it or not. He
- 0:50Speaker 1: caught me on a weak moment, I think. We're going
- 0:55Speaker 1: to hear from Mike Elko. And Mallory is with us
- 0:59Speaker 1: with an entertainment segment in the second hour. Texas A
- 1:07Speaker 1: & M quarterback Marcel Reed is making national headlines because
- 1:14Speaker 1: of an interview he did with USA Today. Several months ago.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But he has endeared himself to Aggie fans everywhere. Said, Reed,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I hate the color orange. The colors just look so ugly.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Everywhere you go in Austin, you see that color orange.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Burnt orange? Who likes burnt orange? Texas, it's the rival, bro.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You gotta hate them. We don't like Texas. I don't
- 1:50Speaker 1: like Texas. It sucks. We've lost to them twice, but
- 1:54Speaker 1: they're coming here this year, so they're going to have
- 1:57Speaker 1: to pay. I've got something for them for sure. Again,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I think Aggie fans want to hear that from their quarterback.
- 2:10Speaker 1: even though I don't know why they're dredging up this,
- 2:14Speaker 1: because I think it's a preview from USA Today for
- 2:17Speaker 1: the upcoming season, and that's why their quotes are coming
- 2:22Speaker 1: out now. It is game week over at the big school.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Marcus Ratcliffe, Mario Craver, No, that's not right. They were scheduled,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but we're going to hear, I think, from Marco Jones
- 2:44Speaker 1: actually coming up. And Dabo, you knew he had to
- 2:50Speaker 1: say something because he's playing LSU this weekend. Dabo blasted
- 2:56Speaker 1: the return of NFL players, calling the concept embarrassing. Rarely
- 3:01Speaker 1: am I at a loss for words, but I'm kind
- 3:04Speaker 1: of at a loss for words. I would say it's
- 3:07Speaker 1: kind of embarrassing. It's just embarrassing where we are. I
- 3:12Speaker 1: don't blame the kids and people trying to take advantage
- 3:15Speaker 1: of the system. I think it's embarrassing where we are
- 3:19Speaker 1: with college football. Clemson is a 10-point dog against the
- 3:25Speaker 1: Tigers on Saturday? I think that's Saturday.
- 3:31Speaker 3: No, wait.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Let me double-check.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Um.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Let me double check. I've got all these games written down.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Is it Saturday?
- 3:41Speaker 5: Saturday at 6.30.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Okay, beautiful. TCU wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma was hospitalized three
- 3:55Speaker 1: days with a brain bleed, concussion, and shoulder injury. Resulting
- 4:03Speaker 1: from an attack in the locker room with former teammate
- 4:07Speaker 1: Jacob Fields. The Dallas Morning News citing the arrest warrant affidavits.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Fields was dismissed from the team. Allegedly punched his teammate,
- 4:23Speaker 1: kicked him in the head. He was booked in Tarrant
- 4:26Speaker 1: County Jail Sunday on aggravated assault, released on $ 50, 000 bond.
- 4:34Speaker 1: The altercation occurred August 13th. Fields walked up to Azucanma,
- 4:43Speaker 1: who was sitting in the locker room, struck him in
- 4:46Speaker 1: the forehead, causing him to fall on the floor, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: proceeded to kick him in the head, knocking him unconscious.
- 4:55Speaker 1: As Uconma told police, he thinks it was because he
- 4:59Speaker 1: was playing better than Fields in practice the day before
- 5:04Speaker 1: and that they had been going hard at each other
- 5:07Speaker 1: since the start of camp. He was taken to the hospital.
- 5:13Speaker 1: A TCU athletic trainer told police the brain bleed could
- 5:18Speaker 1: be life-threatening. as Ukama, a junior, appeared in five games
- 5:24Speaker 1: with one start last year, did not travel with the
- 5:30Speaker 1: team to Ireland this past weekend. Mercy. Tony Romo released
- 5:37Speaker 1: a statement today saying he pleaded no contest to operating
- 5:42Speaker 1: while intoxicating players following his Wisconsin arrest in July and
- 5:49Speaker 1: calling it an incident of personal failure. This morning, said
- 5:55Speaker 1: Romo in a statement, I faced a recent personal failure
- 5:59Speaker 1: by pleading no contest to a civil offense for OWI.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I own this completely. Multiple back surgeries ended my career
- 6:10Speaker 1: earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain.
- 6:16Speaker 1: That pain led to a dependence on pain medication, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: my efforts to get off those led to an over-reliance
- 6:24Speaker 1: on alcohol. Roma was arrested July 23rd on suspicion of
- 6:30Speaker 1: operating while intoxicated. He was coming from a golf tournament.
- 6:37Speaker 1: He was issued four citations. My question is, if his
- 6:43Speaker 1: back is so debilitating, how is he playing golf? Just
- 6:51Speaker 1: a question. He has been suspended from his CBS broadcast
- 6:56Speaker 1: duties and replaced, but I don't know that they've said
- 7:06Speaker 1: anything more about his future status and whether he has
- 7:12Speaker 1: a future status at CBS. In baseball, Oakland and the Rangers,
- 7:19Speaker 1: game two of their series. The Rangers won last night. Repeat,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the Rangers beat Oakland last night. I mean, come on.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Jacob deGrom was really good last night. One hit in
- 7:40Speaker 1: seven innings. Tenth win of the year through 85 pitches,
- 7:47Speaker 1: no walks, and eight strikeouts. Eight to one was the final.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They'll play again this evening. Mackenzie Gore on the mound
- 7:57Speaker 1: for the Rangers tonight. who are still two games below.
- 8:01Speaker 1: 500 and two games behind the Astros with 24 left
- 8:08Speaker 1: in the season. The Rangers have signed Trevor Williams to
- 8:16Speaker 1: a major league contract. The 34-year-old returned from injury this year,
- 8:23Speaker 1: made eight relief appearances for Washington. Had an ERA of.
- 8:29Speaker 1: 265 with 22 strikeouts. Was DFA'd last week. The perfect
- 8:37Speaker 1: Ranger pickup given his injury issues. They have also recalled
- 8:45Speaker 1: Cam Cawley from AAA Round Rock who will be on
- 8:50Speaker 1: his second stint with the Rangers. But more injury issues.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Peyton Gray, right elbow inflammation. Cole Wynn, right rotator cuff strain. So,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Robbie Alstrom is back from AAA. Ben Peoples was recalled
- 9:13Speaker 1: and pitched last night. Rangers have had some serious injuries.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Still no word on Jack Leiter. or Nate Evaldi, or
- 9:31Speaker 1: Josh Young, they could use all three of those guys
- 9:36Speaker 1: down the stretch. The Astros beat the White Sox last
- 9:41Speaker 1: night 6-3, the final there. Cam Smith, two for four
- 9:50Speaker 1: with a double, triple, two runs batted in. Jordan Alvarez
- 9:59Speaker 1: was one for three. And this is bad news for
- 10:07Speaker 1: the American League West. Stan Kroenke has bought the Angels
- 10:13Speaker 1: for $ 4 billion. $ 4 billion. from Artie Moreno, who has
- 10:19Speaker 1: been a disaster as an owner of the Angels. Kroenke
- 10:25Speaker 1: owns the Rams. He owns everything. The Nuggets, the Avalanche, again,
- 10:36Speaker 1: reported price $ 4 billion. And that is not good news
- 10:43Speaker 1: for the rest of the AL West. The San Diego
- 10:46Speaker 1: Padres have called up 20-year-old catching prospect Ethan Salas. The
- 10:54Speaker 1: move comes as the rosters expand because it's September 1st.
- 11:01Speaker 1: He will become the youngest player in Major League Baseball.
- 11:05Speaker 1: The youngest catcher to reach. This is an easy one.
- 11:10Speaker 1: The youngest catcher to reach the majors since... Pudge Rodriguez
- 11:17Speaker 1: in 1991 as a 19-year-old. If this kid is a
- 11:23Speaker 1: third as good as Pudge Rodriguez, he'll help out the Padres.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And they're playing the U.S. Open in New York. American
- 11:34Speaker 1: Madison Keyes won in straight sets today and ninth-seeded American
- 11:40Speaker 1: Taylor Fritz. Beat fellow American Darwin Blanche in straight sets
- 11:49Speaker 1: as well. Hey, there's some highlights of Madison Keyes. Speak
- 11:53Speaker 1: it into existence. Either tomorrow or Thursday, work on this.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Daniel Dockery has written a book called I am the night,
- 12:08Speaker 1: the ultimate unauthorized history of Batman, the animated series. It
- 12:14Speaker 1: is really interesting. There are lots of people that, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: along the way, uh, in this book, including Spielbergo, the
- 12:28Speaker 1: great Steven Spielberg, uh, So we will, Mark Hamill is
- 12:36Speaker 1: part of this, believe it or not. There's all kinds
- 12:40Speaker 1: of people from Batman, the animated series, and how that
- 12:47Speaker 1: animated series was affected by the movies. And even the
- 12:54Speaker 1: TV show. Okay, take a break. We'll come back. This
- 13:01Speaker 1: portion of the program is brought to you by Chad
- 13:03Speaker 1: Jones Law.
- 13:05Speaker 6: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 13:08Speaker 6: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 13:10Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 13:12Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left to.
- 13:15Speaker 7: Deal with the consequences.
- 13:16Speaker 6: You need to see a doctor, and you're missing work.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Chad Jones Law can help. We've been helping our neighbors
- 13:21Speaker 6: for more than two decades. Stop getting frustrated with the
- 13:24Speaker 6: other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't get mad, get Chad.
- 13:28Speaker 6: Call Chad Jones Law at 979-595-5000 or go online to chadjoneslaw.com.
- 13:35Speaker 8: Home, road, or bowl, you can hear Aggie football on
- 13:38Speaker 8: The Zone.
- 13:39Speaker 9: The Zone.
- 13:43Speaker 2: The Zone.
- 13:53Speaker 3: The sun is hot and that.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Old clock is moving slow, and so am I.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Workday passes like molasses in wintertime.
- 14:06Speaker 1: But it's July.
- 14:07Speaker 6: I'm getting paid by the hour and older by the minute.
- 14:12Speaker 4: My boss just pushed me over the limit.
- 14:15Speaker 8: I'd like to call him something.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Hey, thanks for joining us on this Tuesday. Scott Clendenin
- 14:21Speaker 1: will join us tomorrow. We'll have topics. Mallory will be
- 14:24Speaker 1: back with us tomorrow. Thursday, we will have our Clark
- 14:28Speaker 1: Eisenhower outdoor edition. We'll have another high school report on
- 14:32Speaker 1: Thursday and Friday. Kirk Bowles and Tony Catalina, not together, separately,
- 14:39Speaker 1: will get you ready for the football weekend. That is
- 14:45Speaker 1: on Friday. So we got that going on for us,
- 14:48Speaker 1: which is nice. Let's do this. Let's hear a little
- 14:59Speaker 1: bit from a guy who has... Got number one's attention
- 15:05Speaker 1: during summer workouts, Marco Jones.
- 15:08Speaker 10: What's been the biggest part of your game that you
- 15:12Speaker 10: felt like you've improved this fall camp?
- 15:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I think overall for me, something that's really just improved.
- 15:19Speaker 8: I think instead I was just lowering my pad level
- 15:22Speaker 8: and just kind of staying in a more athletic base
- 15:24Speaker 8: more often. I think at times last year I played
- 15:27Speaker 8: a little too high. which, you know, just causes certain things,
- 15:31Speaker 8: not necessarily like the worst thing in the world, but
- 15:33Speaker 8: you definitely want to work on Pat Lowe. That's a
- 15:34Speaker 8: big thing in my position. So I think that was
- 15:36Speaker 8: the biggest thing for me. Alex.
- 15:40Speaker 10: First, just wanted to ask you what you felt like
- 15:42Speaker 10: the biggest strides this defense made during camp and what
- 15:45Speaker 10: are some of the things y'all are talking about still
- 15:47Speaker 10: room for improvement in?
- 15:48Speaker 8: Yeah, I think for us, you know, like we really like, Like,
- 15:53Speaker 8: we've been talking the whole offseason about creating turnovers. I
- 15:57Speaker 8: think that was a big thing. You know, we didn't
- 15:58Speaker 8: have as many turnovers as we would have liked last year,
- 16:01Speaker 8: so I think that was something that we've made big
- 16:03Speaker 8: strides in. And I also think, like, you know, we
- 16:06Speaker 8: just playing as one, like, one sound, right, like one click.
- 16:09Speaker 8: I think that's, like, what just, you know, you look
- 16:11Speaker 8: at all the elite defenses, they all play like it's
- 16:13Speaker 8: one heartbeat. They're all on the same page all the time,
- 16:15Speaker 8: so I think that's something else that we've been focusing on.
- 16:18Speaker 10: And then I want to ask you about Anto Saka.
- 16:20Speaker 10: What's impressed you the most about him, and just what
- 16:24Speaker 10: are the ways you've maybe seen him improve over this offseason?
- 16:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, his motor is just, like, out of
- 16:29Speaker 8: this world. Like, he just always plays hard. Like, you
- 16:31Speaker 8: never see him take plays off, right? He can have
- 16:34Speaker 8: a good look at something, a bad look at something,
- 16:35Speaker 8: whatever it is, but he's always going to play hard. And, like,
- 16:38Speaker 8: you know, playing hard just, like, creates plays, right? Like,
- 16:41Speaker 8: you play hard, like, a lot of people will give
- 16:43Speaker 8: up the harder you play. So I think, like, that's
- 16:45Speaker 8: what impresses me, just, like, Like that and just like
- 16:48Speaker 8: his dedication to the game. He just loves the game
- 16:49Speaker 8: of football. Like some people play it for, you know,
- 16:52Speaker 8: other reasons, but he really, you could tell he loves
- 16:54Speaker 8: the game of football.
- 16:55Speaker 11: All the way in the back with Landon. Margot, you've
- 16:57Speaker 11: had to have a few linebackers step in this offseason
- 17:00Speaker 11: with Damian going down with his injuries. Kind of talk
- 17:02Speaker 11: about their progression this offseason from your perspective and their
- 17:05Speaker 11: level of communication to you guys and learning what they're
- 17:07Speaker 11: supposed to be doing in the defense.
- 17:09Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, all the linebackers, like the whole linebacker room, right,
- 17:13Speaker 8: like whether it's Jordan, Noah, Ray, T-Watt, all those guys
- 17:18Speaker 8: have really stepped up. They've all really done a great job.
- 17:21Speaker 8: I think that they're all playing together now and not
- 17:23Speaker 8: just trying to figure it out. They all understand it.
- 17:27Speaker 8: I think they all understood it before, to be honest.
- 17:30Speaker 8: You see it when the game slows down. You can
- 17:32Speaker 8: tell the game slows down for everyone, especially the freshmen.
- 17:35Speaker 8: The other guys have a lot of experience, but the
- 17:37Speaker 8: freshmen really, at least I know for me last year,
- 17:39Speaker 8: it kind of moves fast. You can tell the freshmen
- 17:42Speaker 8: the game's slowing down for them. They're really good at
- 17:46Speaker 8: communicating now. They make sure the front is always set.
- 17:48Speaker 8: We're all on the same page, and they're just the
- 17:50Speaker 8: communicators of the defense.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Travis and then Carter. Hey, Marco, when you sit where
- 17:56Speaker 2: you are right now this year compared to last year,
- 17:58Speaker 2: how do you feel like y'all are ahead, same, behind schedule?
- 18:02Speaker 2: Where do y'all feel like y'all are?
- 18:05Speaker 8: I think we're right on pace. I think that as
- 18:07Speaker 8: long as you just keep your head down and just
- 18:09Speaker 8: work hard, you'll always be in the right spot. Obviously,
- 18:12Speaker 8: week to week, things happen, things change, stuff like that.
- 18:16Speaker 8: There's going to be a dogfight throughout the whole season.
- 18:18Speaker 8: You play that many SEC games against that many good teams,
- 18:21Speaker 8: it's going to be a dogfight for every team in
- 18:24Speaker 8: the SEC. I think that's kind of what we're just
- 18:27Speaker 8: trying to look one game at a time, especially now
- 18:30Speaker 8: that fall camp is done. We're just trying to focus
- 18:33Speaker 8: all our energy and focus on one game at a time,
- 18:36Speaker 8: one day at a time, and just stay on the
- 18:37Speaker 8: same page.
- 18:38Speaker 12: Carter? Marco, what's been your impressions of the offensive line,
- 18:43Speaker 12: and how have you kind of seen them grow this preseason?
- 18:46Speaker 12: And then in Fordham being Adams in particular, what have
- 18:49Speaker 12: you kind of made of them going up against them
- 18:50Speaker 12: in practice?
- 18:51Speaker 8: Yeah, I think our O-line is going to be a
- 18:53Speaker 8: really good group. I mean, I feel like, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 8: like for people in the media and stuff like that,
- 18:59Speaker 8: it's like a big question mark just because we had
- 19:00Speaker 8: our super veteran line last year, but I think we're
- 19:03Speaker 8: not going to really miss anything like we did last year.
- 19:06Speaker 8: I think like, you know, Our O-line plays really well
- 19:09Speaker 8: together from none of them really playing together outside of
- 19:12Speaker 8: one or two guys maybe. But yeah, I think our
- 19:16Speaker 8: O-line plays really good together. Tyree and Wilkin, they both
- 19:21Speaker 8: are really good players. They both just know what they're doing.
- 19:24Speaker 8: You don't ever really see them mess up a whole lot,
- 19:27Speaker 8: stuff like that. That's kind of what you need in
- 19:29Speaker 8: an O-line. You just need people that are reliable and
- 19:31Speaker 8: are going to get the job done on the time.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Tony?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Marco, I asked Elko about just your development, and he
- 19:40Speaker 2: said this is a year where you kind of match
- 19:42Speaker 2: your size, where your skill set, and how you've kind
- 19:44Speaker 2: of developed. So from your standpoint personally, have you kind
- 19:47Speaker 2: of hit the 10 poles that you were trying to
- 19:49Speaker 2: this year? And do you feel like you could have
- 19:51Speaker 2: a breakout year that many hope to see from you?
- 19:54Speaker 9: Yeah, definitely.
- 19:55Speaker 8: I mean, I think that, you know, like my overall goals,
- 19:57Speaker 8: like I kind of, you know, like I'm still striving
- 20:00Speaker 8: every day. I feel like, you know, as a competitor
- 20:02Speaker 8: and an athlete, like for however long you play, you're
- 20:05Speaker 8: never actually going to reach all your goals that you want,
- 20:07Speaker 8: because whether you're Like Tom Brady, he went seven Super Bowls.
- 20:10Speaker 8: You're always going to want another one, right? You can
- 20:12Speaker 8: never be perfect. So I think always, like, I'm always
- 20:15Speaker 8: striving to be better, be the best version of myself.
- 20:18Speaker 8: But overall, like, I think I've progressed a good amount.
- 20:20Speaker 8: Just really just, you know, just kind of just being
- 20:23Speaker 8: a little bit more experienced, right? Like, I mean, last
- 20:25Speaker 8: year I came in, never really played at edge before, like,
- 20:28Speaker 8: coming in because I was a backer in high school.
- 20:31Speaker 8: And so, like, it's really got that under my belt
- 20:34Speaker 8: and really just, like, you know, just stepping up and
- 20:36Speaker 8: trying to do my job.
- 20:37Speaker 10: Alex and then Matthew. You mentioned playing linebacker in high school.
- 20:41Speaker 10: What was the biggest change you had to go through
- 20:44Speaker 10: in your game to be able to play edge at
- 20:46Speaker 10: a higher level?
- 20:47Speaker 8: Yeah, I think just really, for me, just coming off
- 20:49Speaker 8: the line of scrimmage, it's just a little different. Like,
- 20:51Speaker 8: you know, when you're in space at linebacker, you know,
- 20:53Speaker 8: you're four or five yards deep. It's a different flow.
- 20:56Speaker 8: You have different reads, stuff like that. Like, you can
- 20:58Speaker 8: kind of move at your own pace a little bit.
- 21:01Speaker 8: When you're at edge, like, you know, it's right there
- 21:03Speaker 8: in your face. There's no, like, you have to Focus
- 21:05Speaker 8: on the job right in front of you, the man
- 21:07Speaker 8: in front of you, before you try and go do
- 21:09Speaker 8: the next thing. A linebacker, you can kind of look
- 21:11Speaker 8: at the overall perspective and, like, go, like, make the play.
- 21:13Speaker 8: At edge, it's a little different where, especially in, like,
- 21:16Speaker 8: the run game, where you have to defeat your block
- 21:18Speaker 8: first and then go get off and go make a
- 21:20Speaker 8: play instead of, like, trying to just go make a
- 21:21Speaker 8: play from the jump.
- 21:22Speaker 10: And then Hemphill had mentioned Sam and Pemba to us
- 21:24Speaker 10: the other day. Just what have you seen from his
- 21:26Speaker 10: growth and what he could maybe bring to the table
- 21:28Speaker 10: for you guys this season?
- 21:29Speaker 8: Yeah, Sam's a really good player. I mean, I think
- 21:33Speaker 8: he's gotten a lot better, and he's been doing a
- 21:35Speaker 8: great job. I mean, I think this year is going
- 21:38Speaker 8: to be his year. He's going to show everybody. Everybody's
- 21:43Speaker 8: going to know his name by the end of the year.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Sam's a dog. He just has a really strong work ethic.
- 21:50Speaker 8: He flies around. He knows what he's doing. You don't
- 21:53Speaker 8: see him messing up a whole lot. He's one of
- 21:55Speaker 8: them guys for sure.
- 21:56Speaker 11: We'll wrap things up with Matthew.
- 21:59Speaker 10: I think with the season getting closer, what do you
- 22:01Speaker 10: think the defensive line can be like by the time
- 22:03Speaker 10: you all get into the SEC play?
- 22:07Speaker 8: I mean, that's kind of a hard question to answer
- 22:10Speaker 8: because kind of like I said, like, you know, I'm
- 22:12Speaker 8: not really thinking about SEC play right now, to be honest.
- 22:14Speaker 8: We're just thinking about the game one. But, I mean,
- 22:17Speaker 8: you know, we're a group of dogs, so that's just
- 22:20Speaker 8: what you can expect. You can expect us to go
- 22:23Speaker 8: out there and make plays and, you know, give it
- 22:25Speaker 8: all every single down, every single play, every single game, so.
- 22:28Speaker 8: That's just what it is. But, you know, I can't
- 22:30Speaker 8: really speak too much in the future because, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 8: it's just like time will tell. But I'm definitely confident
- 22:35Speaker 8: in our D-line myself.
- 22:36Speaker 1: It's Marco Jones, defensive end. And it's Tuesday. Kickoff's Saturday.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Tennessee has signed a jersey patch sponsorship with First Horizon.
- 22:57Speaker 1: What is First Horizon? Is that a bank? Look that up.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Ten years, more than $ 120 million. Was it the Big
- 23:08Speaker 1: 12 that was bragging about their name sponsorship? It was
- 23:14Speaker 1: like $ 14 million or something like that?
- 23:19Speaker 5: First Horizon is a bank.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Okay. I'm assuming in Tennessee. I mean, that would be
- 23:26Speaker 1: the Assumption there. 10 years, more than $ 120 million. So
- 23:34Speaker 1: $ 12 million for a patch for one team. And the
- 23:39Speaker 1: Big 12 got, what, $ 14 million for a patch or
- 23:43Speaker 1: something like that? And everybody said, I think they undersold this.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And I think they did undersell that. Texas A &
- 24:04Speaker 1: M says there have been 41,000 student tickets claimed. That's
- 24:14Speaker 1: a lot of student tickets. Now, we've talked about this before.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I think this is correct. There's not necessarily 41,000 seats
- 24:33Speaker 1: for the students at Kyle Field, but that doesn't mean
- 24:36Speaker 1: there won't be 41,000 students at the game. That's a lot.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Why is Kyle Field loud? Well, let's start with the 41,000 students.
- 24:49Speaker 1: That's crazy. Wouldn't you.
- 24:55Speaker 1: And I don't know what the second biggest student section is.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I'm going to say, generally speaking, at most of these,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and I'm talking about big-time schools.
- 25:09Speaker 5: 10,000.
- 25:13Speaker 1: To 12,000, 13,000 students. So up to, yeah, go ahead, Stan.
- 25:21Speaker 5: So the second place is Ohio State. with 29,000.
- 25:24Speaker 14: Okay.
- 25:24Speaker 5: And third place is Penn State with 21,000.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Okay. So, almost double Penn State, which is the third
- 25:34Speaker 1: most students. Ohio State, 29,000. That's a lot. I mean,
- 25:39Speaker 1: it's a big school, right? A big stadium, but still,
- 25:42Speaker 1: that is a lot. I'm going to say, look up
- 25:45Speaker 1: how many Texas has. I'm going to say it's around 12,000
- 25:47Speaker 1: to 13,000. That's my guess. Um, 41,000 students. That makes
- 25:58Speaker 1: it loud. Now, as I said yesterday, I'm going to
- 26:02Speaker 1: look today. Tickets on the secondary market were about the
- 26:09Speaker 1: cheapest tickets were $ 42 in the upper deck end zone
- 26:14Speaker 1: for the game Saturday evening.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Texas' stadium for their student section is $ 13, 000.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's what I thought. Somewhere around there. So I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 1: that's a third. My Richardson high math tells me that's
- 26:35Speaker 1: less than a third.
- 26:36Speaker 8: Okay?
- 26:39Speaker 1: I mean, it's awesome. It's awesome that they would do that.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I mean, they get some revenue through the passes, but not...
- 26:54Speaker 1: Not nearly what it would be like for, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: regular seats. Not close. So that's pretty cool. And it
- 27:09Speaker 1: is opening game. I expect the majority of those 41,000
- 27:15Speaker 1: to be at the game on Saturday night. And Let's see,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I had one more little note here. Ah, I didn't
- 27:29Speaker 1: have this in my headlines, but UCLA fired their athletic
- 27:33Speaker 1: director five days before kickoff. So we're going in another direction.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I don't know if the president or board members were
- 27:45Speaker 1: at practice and didn't like what they saw. I did
- 27:54Speaker 1: see that UCLA is like a two-point favorite over Cal.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm going to throw that out there. That's one of
- 27:59Speaker 1: our games that we're picking this week. And saw that
- 28:05Speaker 1: UCLA at Cal, UCLA was maybe a two-point favorite. That
- 28:13Speaker 1: shouldn't be, given the history of the programs, and this
- 28:18Speaker 1: is a state school, right? Right. And this just in, Stan.
- 28:33Speaker 1: According to the Dallas Morning News, Dallas-based streaming platform Victory Plus,
- 28:40Speaker 1: which until earlier this season carried the Rangers and carried
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Dallas Stars, has been dissolved. And it did high
- 28:50Speaker 1: school football. according to an email sent to multiple school
- 28:55Speaker 1: districts in the DFW area who are scheduled to have
- 28:58Speaker 1: Texas high school football broadcast this season on that streaming platform.
- 29:05Speaker 1: So Victory Plus is no more, okay? The Stars had
- 29:12Speaker 1: already announced that they would not be broadcasting on Victory Plus,
- 29:21Speaker 1: but they would be broadcasting On Amazon Prime, which means
- 29:26Speaker 1: you have to pay for it because Victory Plus was
- 29:31Speaker 1: a free streaming service and potentially one other platform. So
- 29:42Speaker 1: the Rangers left, the Ducks terminating their contract, and most
- 29:52Speaker 1: of all of this came amidst reports of missed payments and, quote,
- 29:59Speaker 1: financial issues. concerns the Seattle Kraken are also on Prime
- 30:09Speaker 1: it would be part of an encompassing Amazon Prime subscription
- 30:16Speaker 1: so you wouldn't have to go out and buy a
- 30:21Speaker 1: separate right subscription if you had Prime if that's part
- 30:27Speaker 1: of what you're already paying for in your streaming service
- 30:30Speaker 1: But yeah, that's a mess. I've said this many times.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I stand by it. It will not be too much
- 30:45Speaker 1: longer at all until you will be paying for all
- 30:49Speaker 1: of your sports. Yes, fans, including Aggie football. Games will
- 30:55Speaker 1: be streamed. on different platforms depending on how much they're
- 31:00Speaker 1: going to pay the schools okay most of the espn
- 31:07Speaker 1: will be on their espn plus app which they will
- 31:12Speaker 1: force you to get which already quite a few games
- 31:15Speaker 1: are right they are going to force you to do
- 31:19Speaker 1: that and you will be paying now I understand you're
- 31:25Speaker 1: already paying for ESPN if you have cable service or
- 31:28Speaker 1: if you have even a satellite service. Part of that
- 31:30Speaker 1: goes to you. I get that part, right? I'm telling
- 31:33Speaker 1: you that, like, maybe a year from now, two years
- 31:38Speaker 1: from now, five years from now, you are going to
- 31:43Speaker 1: pay to see Texas A & M and Missouri State, okay?
- 31:47Speaker 1: That's just what's going to happen. All right, we need
- 31:50Speaker 1: a break. We're going to come back. We've got a
- 31:52Speaker 1: high school report. Caleb is up. I want to send
- 31:55Speaker 1: you over and see my friend Pat Sebchak at Sebchak
- 31:58Speaker 1: Service Center. It's football season. High school games have already started.
- 32:06Speaker 1: You may have Junior high kids, grandkids, you may be
- 32:10Speaker 1: going on the road to watch them. You need your car,
- 32:14Speaker 1: your truck, your SUV ready for the road. And as
- 32:18Speaker 1: long as it's 175 degrees out, you know the heat's
- 32:22Speaker 1: not great for your car either. Check the coolant levels.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Check your tire pressure. Check your belts, your hoses. And
- 32:30Speaker 1: your tires, by the way, you can get those at
- 32:33Speaker 1: Sevchek's as well. And there's no better place for emergencies,
- 32:37Speaker 1: speaking of tires, like flat tires and dead batteries and
- 32:41Speaker 1: major issues. They have been doing this over 50 years.
- 32:46Speaker 1: They're open until 6 o'clock this evening. They're open 7
- 32:49Speaker 1: to 6 through Friday and Saturday from 7 to 4.
- 32:53Speaker 1: It is Sevchek Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just down from
- 32:57Speaker 1: the post office in College Station.

- 34:12Speaker 1: Welcome into the High School Report.
- 34:13Speaker 6: I'm Caleb Rapley, and today we are jumping out to
- 34:17Speaker 6: the Polaris Fund Center phone line.
- 34:38Speaker 16: To visit with the head coach of the St. Joseph
- 34:40Speaker 16: Eagles football team, Mr. Jeff Norris. Coach, thanks for joining
- 34:44Speaker 16: me today.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Absolutely. Happy to be here.
- 34:47Speaker 16: So we are officially in the thick of the Texas
- 34:52Speaker 16: high school football season in both the public, private, and
- 34:56Speaker 16: homeschool schedules. Your Eagles got their season started this past weekend,
- 35:01Speaker 16: Friday night, taking on local rival Allen Academy, unfortunately, coming up.
- 35:07Speaker 16: little bit short in that game but it was a
- 35:09Speaker 16: very competitive football game 42 to 30 the final score
- 35:13Speaker 16: it's very early in the season hard to say too
- 35:16Speaker 16: much about your team but what were some of your
- 35:18Speaker 16: takeaways from week one we had a.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Couple of breaks go against us which you know that
- 35:25Speaker 3: sometimes it's hard to come back from things like you
- 35:28Speaker 3: know big momentum swings and things like that um it
- 35:32Speaker 3: was kind of an odd night as well. We had
- 35:35Speaker 3: over a two hour delay for our kickoff. And so
- 35:38Speaker 3: I think it was just a combination of things. It
- 35:40Speaker 3: wasn't ideal for, for our first game out, but you know,
- 35:45Speaker 3: at the same time, Alan had to deal with the
- 35:46Speaker 3: same things. So, but I was really pleased with how
- 35:51Speaker 3: our kids kept fighting back. They just never could get
- 35:56Speaker 3: the lead. I feel like if they could have, converted
- 36:00Speaker 3: some of the, you know, one of those drives where
- 36:02Speaker 3: they could have taken the lead. I think it would
- 36:05Speaker 3: have been a different story, but they, man, they fought hard.
- 36:10Speaker 3: I just, you know, physically, they just ran out of gas. And,
- 36:14Speaker 3: you know, by the end of the game, it was
- 36:15Speaker 3: well past midnight and, you know, kids just aren't used
- 36:19Speaker 3: to playing at that time. You know, it just didn't
- 36:23Speaker 3: quite have enough in the tank to get it done.
- 36:26Speaker 16: Well, that is, The purpose of early in the season
- 36:29Speaker 16: non-district games is to get your lumps early and develop
- 36:34Speaker 16: from those.
- 36:35Speaker 3: We don't have a lot of depth across the board,
- 36:39Speaker 3: and so we're still trying to figure out the best
- 36:43Speaker 3: way to utilize certain guys and certain positions to be
- 36:47Speaker 3: able to get guys enough rest, but also have key
- 36:51Speaker 3: guys on the field when we need them. Still trying
- 36:55Speaker 3: to figure those things out. You know, and of course,
- 36:57Speaker 3: everybody's been battling the heat. So, you know, trying to
- 37:00Speaker 3: get enough practice time, you know, around the heat guidelines
- 37:05Speaker 3: and things, you know, has been tough as well. So really,
- 37:10Speaker 3: really just trying to get enough reps to see what
- 37:13Speaker 3: all these guys can do.
- 37:14Speaker 16: It's always interesting, you know, for someone like myself, whenever
- 37:18Speaker 16: I'm reading the preview magazines and I'm looking at returning
- 37:21Speaker 16: starters and I say, oh, this team's only got two
- 37:24Speaker 16: returning starters. And then I realized, oh yeah, this is
- 37:26Speaker 16: six-man football. So there's not as many players on the roster.
- 37:31Speaker 16: So to that effect, if it being six-man, does that change,
- 37:36Speaker 16: for example, with conditioning, not having any offensive, defensive linemen,
- 37:40Speaker 16: does that change kind of your strategy when trying to
- 37:43Speaker 16: develop these players?
- 37:44Speaker 3: No, we still have those personnel groups. They're more situational than...
- 37:52Speaker 3: maybe you would see, you know, we may not have
- 37:55Speaker 3: a full gamut of offensive linemen on the field at once.
- 37:59Speaker 3: We typically have at least two on the field. And
- 38:02Speaker 3: so we do still have that position group in practice.
- 38:06Speaker 3: You know, we still have defensive linemen. We have defensive
- 38:10Speaker 3: ends and nose guards, but we don't, you know, we
- 38:13Speaker 3: don't employ the nose guard a whole lot, but you
- 38:16Speaker 3: still have, you still have those groups. And so we
- 38:19Speaker 3: do still have to practice those things. Yeah, the conditioning
- 38:22Speaker 3: part of it, it is a little bit more demanding.
- 38:26Speaker 3: There's a lot more accountability in six-man for you to
- 38:29Speaker 3: cover space. And so I think it's almost percentage-wise, it's
- 38:34Speaker 3: almost two-thirds as much of a field as an 11-man
- 38:38Speaker 3: player would have to cover. So yeah, it is different.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I have coached at both. I will say that the
- 38:45Speaker 3: years that we did 11-man, it improved our training for
- 38:48Speaker 3: six-man because of just the different things that we figured
- 38:53Speaker 3: out how to cover and practice and it made us
- 38:55Speaker 3: a better six man football team. So, but yeah, it
- 38:58Speaker 3: is a challenge. And, you know, to your earlier question, we,
- 39:02Speaker 3: we don't have a lot of returning players. We had
- 39:07Speaker 3: a few seniors graduate from the team last year. We
- 39:10Speaker 3: had a couple of current upperclassmen that decided not to play.
- 39:16Speaker 3: And we, we had a serious loss in our first
- 39:20Speaker 3: scrimmage with one of our starting offensive lineman, Harrison Hundle.
- 39:24Speaker 3: And so, yeah, we don't, we're still trying to find
- 39:26Speaker 3: some chemistry. These guys, they haven't. played together a lot,
- 39:31Speaker 3: at least not in recent years. Maybe they did in
- 39:34Speaker 3: middle school, but last year they had a lot of
- 39:37Speaker 3: injuries of the guys that did come back. And so, yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 3: still trying to find that chemistry, that balance.
- 39:44Speaker 16: So like you said, not a lot of returning players
- 39:46Speaker 16: this year. Have there been any young players in particular
- 39:49Speaker 16: step up to fill those holes?
- 39:51Speaker 3: Well, I think the big thing with me coming in
- 39:56Speaker 3: was just a new set of eyes. And so we
- 40:01Speaker 3: pretty immediately moved some guys around from positions that they
- 40:06Speaker 3: had played previously just because of the system that we
- 40:11Speaker 3: run and kind of the expectations of different positions and
- 40:17Speaker 3: the skill sets that these kids had. And so Luke
- 40:19Speaker 3: Krasinic is, he's a sophomore. He was not really a
- 40:24Speaker 3: quarterback in the past, but we kind of identified him
- 40:28Speaker 3: pretty quick as a very intelligent player, very hardworking, very coachable.
- 40:36Speaker 3: And he is, he's done a really good job of
- 40:39Speaker 3: stepping in and And he had a pretty good game Friday.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I think he ended up seven out of 11 through
- 40:49Speaker 3: a touchdown. He also caught a touchdown, which in six man,
- 40:52Speaker 3: that's not unusual. We actually had three guys throw the
- 40:55Speaker 3: ball Friday and four guys rush and six guys catch passes.
- 40:59Speaker 3: So very versatile group, but he's done a good job.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Felipe said along goes another sophomore that is just extremely hardworking.
- 41:09Speaker 3: He's very tough. He's not the biggest kid, but he's
- 41:15Speaker 3: probably our best tackler. He's really intuitive on offense. He
- 41:20Speaker 3: can play a lot of different positions. And so we've
- 41:23Speaker 3: moved him around a little bit as well. But yeah,
- 41:29Speaker 3: Simon Weiderholt had never played at St.
- 41:31Speaker 9: Joe's.
- 41:32Speaker 3: He's a junior. He's extremely talented. If anybody saw that
- 41:35Speaker 3: game Friday, he's, he was pretty outstanding on both sides,
- 41:40Speaker 3: but he was over 200 yards offensively and had several big,
- 41:46Speaker 3: big plays throughout the game. I think he had an
- 41:49Speaker 3: interception as well. So yeah, I mean, we've, we've had
- 41:54Speaker 3: to have, you know, with not very many guys returning,
- 41:57Speaker 3: we've had to have new people step forward. And so yeah, Yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 3: they continue to do that. You know, Jaron Cruz is
- 42:05Speaker 3: another sophomore. We're very sophomore heavy. And so he's kind
- 42:09Speaker 3: of a speed guy. He can make plays for us.
- 42:13Speaker 3: You know, we hated losing Hundle. I really thought Hundle
- 42:16Speaker 3: could have been an all-state player, possibly even on both
- 42:19Speaker 3: sides of the ball. We lose him at linebacker and
- 42:21Speaker 3: on offensive line. And so that's a big loss for us.
- 42:24Speaker 3: And he's a captain. He's kind of a big leadership
- 42:27Speaker 3: role on the team. And so we'll have to fill
- 42:30Speaker 3: his shoes somehow. Um, but yeah, we certainly could use
- 42:35Speaker 3: a few more guys to continue to step up.
- 42:37Speaker 16: Your next game, uh, will be this weekend against leverage
- 42:41Speaker 16: chapel going on the road. Uh, so what do you
- 42:43Speaker 16: expect to see from them?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Kind of similar to us, not very deep, but you know,
- 42:47Speaker 3: guys playing both ways, um, pretty much at every position.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I think they're starting six is the same on both sides. Um,
- 42:54Speaker 3: they're a good group. They've, you know, their, their linemen
- 42:58Speaker 3: are physical. Um, one of their backs is pretty good
- 43:01Speaker 3: size as well. So, you know, just with, with any,
- 43:06Speaker 3: anytime we play UIL schools, we know they're going to
- 43:09Speaker 3: be aggressive. They're going to, they're going to get after us.
- 43:14Speaker 3: They're going to be physical. So our guys just have
- 43:17Speaker 3: to be ready for that. But, you know, we had
- 43:19Speaker 3: a pretty physical game Friday against Allen. And so I
- 43:24Speaker 3: think they'll, they'll rise to that, to that challenge. And
- 43:27Speaker 3: I think we learned a lot about ourselves last week
- 43:29Speaker 3: as well. So, Hopefully we can contain, you know, Leverett
- 43:33Speaker 3: said they got a pretty good running game, some pretty good,
- 43:35Speaker 3: decent athletes. And so hopefully we can contain that, move
- 43:41Speaker 3: the ball offensively and come up with a good night.
- 43:46Speaker 10: All right, Coach.
- 43:46Speaker 16: Well, I appreciate your time today. Good luck this season.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Thank you. Appreciate it.

- 46:24Speaker 4: used big swings to open up the series against the

- 46:57Speaker 4: Get the tech your business deserves. The Houston Astros used
- 47:01Speaker 4: big swings to defeat the Chicago White Sox last night,
- 47:04Speaker 4: that final score 6-3. The first two innings were quiet
- 47:07Speaker 4: as Peter Lambert started strong for the Astros. He finished
- 47:10Speaker 4: with only two runs allowed on three hits, but walks
- 47:13Speaker 4: was the issue with five given up. Jordan Alvarez struck
- 47:16Speaker 4: first with an RBI ground out in the bottom third.
- 47:18Speaker 4: The White Sox would respond with a pair of runs
- 47:20Speaker 4: to take the lead in the top fourth. And in
- 47:22Speaker 4: the same inning, Nelson Velazquez would use this long ball
- 47:24Speaker 4: to put Houston in front for good.
- 47:27Speaker 1: That ball drilled high and deep.
- 47:30Speaker 13: Astros lead it 3-2.
- 47:33Speaker 14: Third hit is an Astros and two-run home run for
- 47:36Speaker 14: Nelson Velasquez.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Christian Walker and Cam Smith would provide another pair of
- 47:41Speaker 4: insurance runs in the fifth to secure the win. Game
- 47:44Speaker 4: two of the series is set for 7-10 tonight. With
- 47:47Speaker 4: your Houston Astros report, I'm Jett Nelson.
- 47:49Speaker 14: Your Aggie Football Saturday starts four hours before kickoff on

- 48:13Speaker 14: Kept Classic Homes.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Listen in every Aggie Football Saturday on the Zone.
- 48:26Speaker 18: I got a few years on me now.
- 48:30Speaker 13: But there was a time back in my prime.
- 48:34Speaker 9: When I could really lay it down.
- 48:38Speaker 1: If you need some love tonight, then I might have
- 48:43Speaker 1: just enough.
- 48:45Speaker 16: I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm
- 48:49Speaker 16: as good once again.
- 48:51Speaker 1: The late great Toby Keith with us here on the program.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us on this Tuesday. Last night, the
- 49:02Speaker 1: Rangers beat the A's. Now, normally you'd say, so what?
- 49:05Speaker 1: It's the A's. And you'd be right, but the A's
- 49:11Speaker 1: just have owned the Rangers historically. Last night, Oakland looked
- 49:16Speaker 1: like a bad team. But, you know, tonight, given who
- 49:22Speaker 1: the Rangers are, they could look just as bad. Mackenzie
- 49:26Speaker 1: Gore is on the mound tonight. Last night, everybody got hits.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Everybody was doing good, including Brandon Nimmo.
- 49:38Speaker 18: We just did a really good job of making every
- 49:41Speaker 18: at-bat count, and we didn't leave many runners on base.
- 49:45Speaker 18: So however that was, whether it was some two-out knocks
- 49:50Speaker 18: with runners in scoring position or... you know some sack
- 49:54Speaker 18: flies you know just kind of not trying to do
- 49:58Speaker 18: too much honestly I think a little bit of like
- 50:00Speaker 18: kind of what the Brewers did to us you know
- 50:02Speaker 18: over the weekend so I think the guys came out
- 50:04Speaker 18: and played really well tonight had great focus right from
- 50:07Speaker 18: the beginning and it manifested in to a pretty good win.
- 50:10Speaker 18: So we've had trouble with them this year. That's been
- 50:13Speaker 18: no secret. And so to come out and win the
- 50:16Speaker 18: first game like this against a great young pitcher in
- 50:19Speaker 18: jump was really awesome. So a lot of quality at-bats
- 50:23Speaker 18: and just not giving one AB away. It makes a
- 50:25Speaker 18: big difference psychologically. Hits are really hard to come by
- 50:30Speaker 18: in this game, especially in the big leagues. You'll take
- 50:34Speaker 18: them however you can get them because you have plenty
- 50:36Speaker 18: of balls that you hit really well right at people.
- 50:40Speaker 18: When you get on base and it was a tougher play,
- 50:43Speaker 18: you want to see that base hit. uh more than
- 50:46Speaker 18: anything i was glad to score the run i didn't
- 50:49Speaker 18: know they had changed it until i got back to
- 50:50Speaker 18: the dugout um and uh some of the guys told
- 50:54Speaker 18: me but um you know for me right now it's
- 50:57Speaker 18: more about the team and winning uh these games and
- 51:00Speaker 18: trying to get into the playoffs so i was happy
- 51:02Speaker 18: that uh i was able to score the run get
- 51:04Speaker 18: on base for us and score the run We've got
- 51:06Speaker 18: a few road games here in September. And so, you know,
- 51:09Speaker 18: we just try and take it one game at a time.
- 51:12Speaker 18: Don't try and blow it out of proportion. Take it
- 51:13Speaker 18: one game at a time. And, you know, we'll see
- 51:16Speaker 18: if we can continue that success here. But it's been
- 51:19Speaker 18: a great place for us to play. We love playing
- 51:20Speaker 18: in front of our fans. We love the atmosphere here.
- 51:23Speaker 18: And we're comfortable here. So, you know, let's keep that going,
- 51:27Speaker 18: but just one game.
- 51:27Speaker 10: At a time.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Brandon Nimmo had a couple of hits and a sack
- 51:31Speaker 1: fly last night.
- 51:34Speaker 13: And.
- 51:35Speaker 1: They need his bat. They really need Corey Seager. How
- 51:38Speaker 1: many times have I said that all year long? A lot.
- 51:43Speaker 1: 68-70 with 24 games to play. Two games behind the
- 51:48Speaker 1: Astros who beat the White Sox last night and the
- 51:56Speaker 1: 6-3 was the final there. Cam Smith had a double
- 52:01Speaker 1: and a triple. Um, Nelson Velasquez had a home run,
- 52:07Speaker 1: his first hit with the Astros. And afterward, let's go
- 52:12Speaker 1: to Joe Espada. Stan, the manager of the Astros talked
- 52:18Speaker 1: about the win.
- 52:20Speaker 19: Well, you know, in that particular bat, you know, Richards
- 52:23Speaker 19: is a reverse split. Righty's handling him well. We have
- 52:27Speaker 19: the lead, so I want to keep my best defense
- 52:29Speaker 19: in the game. And I have a lot of confidence
- 52:32Speaker 19: in Ken Smith, especially against Richard in that spot. It's
- 52:34Speaker 19: a really good matchup for him. Just a young player, man.
- 52:37Speaker 19: This is learning in the big leagues, developing in the
- 52:40Speaker 19: big leagues. For me, it's how we help them throughout
- 52:43Speaker 19: those stretches, right? The ups and downs of baseball season.
- 52:46Speaker 19: We have to trust them. We got to build them up,
- 52:49Speaker 19: give them confidence and You know, he's a strong-minded kid,
- 52:54Speaker 19: so he's going to turn out to be a really
- 52:55Speaker 19: good player. We just got to help him through this process. Yeah,
- 52:58Speaker 19: you know, he also is big. It was his first hit,
- 53:01Speaker 19: but he also had a really big sack fly in
- 53:03Speaker 19: San Francisco. Those count, right? We got to look at
- 53:08Speaker 19: the whole entire approach. He's working hard. You know, he's
- 53:11Speaker 19: hit some balls really hard. He did also in city field.
- 53:14Speaker 19: He did that ball tracing. So it's coming. I'm just
- 53:19Speaker 19: glad that the first one to actually put some numbers
- 53:24Speaker 19: in the batting average meant a lot for him and
- 53:27Speaker 19: our club. Like I mentioned earlier, that's a scrappy lineup.
- 53:30Speaker 19: They will make you work. A ton of pitches, he
- 53:33Speaker 19: pitched out of trouble multiple times. The walks drove his
- 53:37Speaker 19: pitch count up, but Peter just finds a way to
- 53:40Speaker 19: get us somewhere in the fifth. He keeps us in
- 53:43Speaker 19: the game, and I tip my hat to him. He's
- 53:45Speaker 19: been one of our best.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Peter Lambert got the start, but he had five walks,
- 53:52Speaker 1: so he only lasted four and two-thirds innings. Sounds like
- 53:55Speaker 1: a Ranger pitcher, actually. Jacob deGrom was nails last night.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Jacob deGrom pitched like a Hall of Fame pitcher last night.
- 54:04Speaker 1: He has been terribly inconsistent. He was terrible in his
- 54:08Speaker 1: last start, but last night, He went seven innings, gave
- 54:14Speaker 1: up one hit, faced one more than the minimum number
- 54:19Speaker 1: of batters, 22 batters, was great. Eight Ks, no walks,
- 54:27Speaker 1: threw 85 pitches, and that's the guy they need, you know,
- 54:33Speaker 1: every fifth day coming down. He'll get probably five more starts.
- 54:39Speaker 1: And that's what they need, especially with no Evaldi, no lighter.
- 54:43Speaker 1: They've really had to piece things together. So we're in
- 54:48Speaker 1: September now. It's stretch baseball, everybody. That's just, that's the
- 54:54Speaker 1: way it is. Hey, my friend Joe Orsak has been
- 54:57Speaker 1: part of MarbleCraft for well over 25 years. The leading
- 55:02Speaker 1: resource for kitchen and bath surfacing, remodeling, construction, renovation, Joe's
- 55:09Speaker 1: done work for our family. He's probably done work for
- 55:13Speaker 1: your neighbor. You can go by the showroom at West
- 55:17Speaker 1: Carson and Finfeather and Bryan and check out some of
- 55:21Speaker 1: the examples of the things that they do with granite

- 55:31Speaker 1: make ready. Nothing, you know this, is going to increase
- 55:34Speaker 1: the value of your existing home like redoing your kitchen,
- 55:38Speaker 1: redoing your baths. Quit putting it off. Joe will make
- 55:43Speaker 1: it just about as easy as you can get it.

- 55:50Speaker 1: That's marblecraftbcs.com.
