- 0:15Speaker 3: Live from Patriots Mini Camp.
- 0:17Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:23Speaker 5: All right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. This is a special
- 0:26Speaker 5: live edition from the first day of Patriots Mandatory Mini Camp.
- 0:31Speaker 5: I'm Fred Kersh, Paul Parrillo, Mike Dusseau is joining us.
- 0:34Speaker 5: We'll probably be joined by others a little later on
- 0:37Speaker 5: Evan Lazare, Tamra Brown, but we'll be here for the
- 0:40Speaker 5: duration of practice today, bringing you everything we see in
- 0:44Speaker 5: here here at Patriots Mini Camp. And it's exciting because
- 0:48Speaker 5: you know, this is the first time it's mandatory for
- 0:52Speaker 5: the players to be here. They've had pretty good, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 5: attendance so far with the OTAs. But what we're gonna
- 0:57Speaker 5: see today is everybody here, unless you've got some sort
- 1:01Speaker 5: of injury or you know, some other.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Excuse that you know has been approved. But we're gonna
- 1:07Speaker 6: see uh, pretty much everybody here today, we hope.
- 1:09Speaker 7: So.
- 1:10Speaker 8: And I found it interesting that, you know, some of
- 1:12Speaker 8: the you know, some of our colleagues are sort of
- 1:14Speaker 8: speculating as to if anybody will not be here, and
- 1:18Speaker 8: the one name that keeps getting brought up is Trent Brown.
- 1:21Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, so.
- 1:21Speaker 8: It'd be interesting to see as players are starting to
- 1:24Speaker 8: trickle out now, it'd be interesting to see, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 8: just how close to one hundred percent that attendance winds
- 1:29Speaker 8: up being.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Yeah, we saw JJ Shuster this morning because in addition
- 1:34Speaker 5: to Mini Camp, the Patriots have their media day today.
- 1:37Speaker 5: So that's the day where all the players come and
- 1:39Speaker 5: get their head shots done for all the networks, including uh,
- 1:43Speaker 5: you know, Patriots dot Com and the preseason broadcasts, and
- 1:46Speaker 5: they do all their specialized you know, uh you know,
- 1:50Speaker 5: uh poses and all that stuff. So they were all
- 1:53Speaker 5: there today.
- 1:54Speaker 6: JJ Shuster, Juju Shuster was there today, Smith.
- 1:57Speaker 5: But but he may not practice from what I understand,
- 2:02Speaker 5: some sort of injury.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what it sounds like.
- 2:04Speaker 8: And I know like he you know, I read in
- 2:06Speaker 8: Mike Reese over the weekend. You know, he did come
- 2:09Speaker 8: off an injury from the Super Bowl that he had
- 2:12Speaker 8: that knee injury heading into the Super Bowl and that
- 2:15Speaker 8: bothered him. So perhaps he's still feeling the effects of that.
- 2:19Speaker 8: That's why we haven't seen him yet this spring.
- 2:21Speaker 6: Sorry. Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 4: The other guy to look out for, also with with
- 2:25Speaker 4: Reese's notes was Taekwon Thornton, who had, you know, a
- 2:28Speaker 4: nice first practice that we saw him in Ota camp,
- 2:31Speaker 4: but supposely a soft tissue injury that's maybe keeping him
- 2:33Speaker 4: off the field. According to Reese, that's a little bit,
- 2:35Speaker 4: a little bit disappointing. I mean, it's just you know,
- 2:37Speaker 4: anytime these guys aren't able to stay on the field
- 2:39Speaker 4: and stay consistent, you know, here in his second year
- 2:42Speaker 4: trying to build a little bit of momentum after those
- 2:43Speaker 4: first couple of practices that he played well. So they
- 2:47Speaker 4: definitely will see what the receiver group looks like today
- 2:49Speaker 4: and who Mack is thrown to.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Just a little programming note, we'll have our cameras down
- 2:55Speaker 5: in the field as much as we can. There's certain
- 2:57Speaker 5: portions of the practice that we're not allowed to film,
- 3:00Speaker 5: certainly when they get into their seven on seven and
- 3:03Speaker 5: eleven on eleven, so we'll be we'll have live cameras
- 3:06Speaker 5: to about eleven fifty today and then from that point
- 3:09Speaker 5: on you'll just be looking at our mugs for the
- 3:12Speaker 5: rest of the practice. But we'll still be telling you
- 3:14Speaker 5: everything that we see, even though we can't shoot it.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Just just want to let everyone know. In cases say,
- 3:19Speaker 5: you know, why aren't they showing the fields? We would
- 3:22Speaker 5: if we could.
- 3:23Speaker 8: We just safe to say, if we're not showing you
- 3:25Speaker 8: the field, it's because we can't.
- 3:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 5: So we're seeing some arrivals right now. You see David
- 3:29Speaker 5: Andrews coming on on the field. There's David Silverman, our
- 3:32Speaker 5: crack photographer in the background. Looks like a lot of
- 3:36Speaker 5: the offensive linemen are coming onto the field right now.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Shorts and shells.
- 3:42Speaker 5: What that means is, obviously at this time of year,
- 3:44Speaker 5: you're not allowed to wear pads.
- 3:46Speaker 6: In fact, you really can't wear pads anymore at all. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 6: I don't think I'm only kidding.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just shelmets, Yeah, just helmets right now and
- 3:55Speaker 5: shorts and practice shirts. So it's gonna be, you know what,
- 4:00Speaker 5: pretty much fifty percent speed. If that pretty much a walkthrough.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Maybe they'll ramp it up a little bit tomorrow. But
- 4:07Speaker 5: there's no contact in mini camp. You're not gonna have
- 4:10Speaker 5: any tackling bringing guys.
- 4:12Speaker 6: To the ground.
- 4:13Speaker 5: It's really a teaching practice, as Bill Belichick likes to
- 4:18Speaker 5: describe it. And you know they're doing they're setting the
- 4:21Speaker 5: foundation so that when they hit the ground in July.
- 4:24Speaker 5: At the end of July, they're not starting from scratch.
- 4:28Speaker 5: They've got something to work from. You know, there's chances
- 4:32Speaker 5: that you see players and positions that they may or
- 4:34Speaker 5: may not take once the game start. This is the
- 4:38Speaker 5: time to see, you know, how does a guy look
- 4:40Speaker 5: at right tackle instead of left tackle, How does a
- 4:43Speaker 5: guy look with his hand on the ground instead of
- 4:45Speaker 5: you know, upright outside linebackers. So you see things like
- 4:49Speaker 5: that during during these mini camps last year. You guys,
- 4:54Speaker 5: remember we saw some long passes to Trey Nixon. So
- 4:58Speaker 5: we came out of mini camps, Oh, this is what
- 5:00Speaker 5: they're gonna do.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Absolutely, this is what they're gonna do. Yeah, they really
- 5:04Speaker 6: didn't do that.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Well, well, I will say, Fred, I think that they
- 5:08Speaker 4: tried to push the ball down the field more last year.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I do think it was a little bit of a
- 5:11Speaker 4: sign of that. But I was gonna say with success, yeah, yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 4: but you know it was it was kind of last year.
- 5:16Speaker 4: It was like like the season kind of ended up
- 5:18Speaker 4: being where, you know, there'd be a couple splash plays
- 5:20Speaker 4: down the field here and there, but they couldn't ever
- 5:23Speaker 4: establish that kind of consistency, and you know, we don't
- 5:26Speaker 4: want to get overboard with the three OTA practices that
- 5:28Speaker 4: we've watched so far, but from those practices, it just
- 5:32Speaker 4: it seems like things are running smoothly. Everybody seems like
- 5:35Speaker 4: they're on the same page, and you know, it just
- 5:37Speaker 4: is almost a flashback to you know, how things were previously,
- 5:39Speaker 4: where you know, it didn't really feel like they were
- 5:42Speaker 4: trying to feel it out or figure out who they were.
- 5:44Speaker 4: The practices on offense, it seems like Bill O'Brien knows
- 5:46Speaker 4: what he's looking for. He's just been a fixture on
- 5:48Speaker 4: the sideline without walkie talkie calling in plays. So I
- 5:51Speaker 4: think so far the early returns as much as you
- 5:54Speaker 4: can take from these early OTA practices when admittedly there
- 5:57Speaker 4: aren't a lot of competitive portions it really I don't
- 6:00Speaker 4: know how competitive really any of it is, but but
- 6:02Speaker 4: you know, there, I will say though there are some
- 6:03Speaker 4: nice parts where you'd get some seven on seven, you'll
- 6:05Speaker 4: get some you know, a little bit eleven on eleven.
- 6:07Speaker 4: It's not going to be tackling, it's not going to
- 6:09Speaker 4: be full contact or anything like that, but it's for June.
- 6:12Speaker 4: You'll take it as far as football goes.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Yeah, and people may note, you know, with Mac Jones's
- 6:16Speaker 5: first press conference this OTA period, he used the word normal, Yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 5: used the words smoothly, everybody on the same page, a
- 6:26Speaker 5: lot of that, and I'm sure he used those words
- 6:30Speaker 5: for a reason.
- 6:30Speaker 9: Yeah, and that would be my big takeaway, Freddie. Yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 9: with you know, the three practices.
- 6:34Speaker 8: That we got to watch and less so I'm less
- 6:38Speaker 8: so interested in the execution and whatnot, because obviously that's
- 6:41Speaker 8: still a work in progress. But I did feel like
- 6:44Speaker 8: the tempo of the play calling and you know, I'm
- 6:48Speaker 8: not saying they were without any hiccups, but I thought
- 6:50Speaker 8: it was much smoother. The overall operation looked more like
- 6:54Speaker 8: we're sort of accustomed to seeing them.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Look speaking of accustomed to seeing there's Matthew Slater. We've
- 6:59Speaker 5: been accustomed to seeing him come on to the practice
- 7:02Speaker 5: field for how many years now, thirteen or what's this
- 7:05Speaker 5: like eighteen, eighteen and eight.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Yeah, that's my whole life. That is rare. And you
- 7:10Speaker 6: heard Tamara Brown.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Tamara's here along with Evan Lazar and they'll be joining
- 7:14Speaker 5: us for the practice. So let's let's while we, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 5: see the guys warm up they're gonna be doing their stretching. Now,
- 7:22Speaker 5: what are something things that you're gonna be looking for
- 7:26Speaker 5: in these mini camps, Paul, I'll start with you.
- 7:29Speaker 8: I want to see a continuation of that that offensive
- 7:32Speaker 8: momentum because I feel like, you know, we we got
- 7:35Speaker 8: to hear Kendrick Bourne on the last ota that we
- 7:37Speaker 8: had on Friday, him talking about it just feels like
- 7:41Speaker 8: they're refreshed.
- 7:42Speaker 9: You know. I think that they were.
- 7:43Speaker 8: Frustrated last year with the way that the situation was
- 7:46Speaker 8: set up, and I think I want to see a
- 7:48Speaker 8: continuation of that sort of overall enthusiasm that we've seen
- 7:51Speaker 8: from the offensive players. And I know you mentioned Smith
- 7:55Speaker 8: Schuster in some of those guys. I'd like to see
- 7:57Speaker 8: if we could get, you know, a better semblance of
- 8:00Speaker 8: the players that are going to be playing. Yeah, and
- 8:03Speaker 8: unfortunately it doesn't look like we're gonna get to see
- 8:05Speaker 8: a lot of that. But that's what I want to
- 8:06Speaker 8: see in mini campus, a continuation of that momentum that
- 8:09Speaker 8: I feel like they started.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Mike, just so with the blue glasses, very very Hollywood. Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 6: thank you, not only Merrit glasses too, right, I.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Think so they were a gift for my sister, but
- 8:21Speaker 4: thank you. Okay, what am I looking for? I would say,
- 8:24Speaker 4: just off the top, who's here and where we're as
- 8:26Speaker 4: you see us scrambling with our pens and paper, were
- 8:28Speaker 4: checking guys off as they come on the field. Just
- 8:30Speaker 4: saw a couple of rookies come out, but Trump Brown,
- 8:34Speaker 4: Matthew Jude On two faces that you know we haven't
- 8:36Speaker 4: seen yet this year here at ed Ota. So you know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: are those guys going to be here and around? We'll
- 8:41Speaker 4: probably know in the next few minutes here as the
- 8:43Speaker 4: rest of the team is coming out.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Now, how about you, Evan, Yeah, I would do so.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I think that the some of the guys that weren't
- 8:49Speaker 3: here is probably important. But I would also just I
- 8:52Speaker 3: continue to just look at Mac Jones and the whole
- 8:55Speaker 3: quarterback situation, and I don't think we can necessarily glean
- 8:59Speaker 3: too much from this time a year. But physically we
- 9:02Speaker 3: know that mentally he's going to be a little bit
- 9:04Speaker 3: more locked in and more comfortable with what they're doing.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But now we got to see physically is he going
- 9:09Speaker 3: to push it to a next a next level or
- 9:11Speaker 3: make that leap. And I'm not necessarily sure I've seen
- 9:14Speaker 3: that yet. In the OTAs, but maybe we'll get a
- 9:16Speaker 3: little bit more competitive stretches here, Hi, over the next
- 9:19Speaker 3: couple of days where we can see some of that Tamara.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Hi.
- 9:23Speaker 7: Okay, So I'm probably a hybrid of between Deuce and Paul.
- 9:26Speaker 7: I think one last year around this time, the offense
- 9:29Speaker 7: looked normal, you know, but there's a lot of stuff
- 9:31Speaker 7: behind the scenes that we didn't know was going on.
- 9:34Speaker 7: This year, you know, they're saying it's normal, they're saying
- 9:36Speaker 7: communication is getting better, and they're on the same page.
- 9:38Speaker 7: I'm hoping to actually see that consistency keep going beyond
- 9:41Speaker 7: just OTAs, hopefully into this mini camp.
- 9:44Speaker 10: And then I also want.
- 9:44Speaker 7: To see guys like Juju hopefully show up today at
- 9:47Speaker 7: practice so we can see him, you know, get into
- 9:49Speaker 7: that mix and get that chemistry going with the offense.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with Evan, you know, I want to see,
- 9:53Speaker 5: you know, how Mac is looking out there, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 5: how he's presenting himself as the leader of the team,
- 10:00Speaker 5: which he should be, how smoothly the offense is running.
- 10:03Speaker 4: But my biggie this year is Keyon White. I want
- 10:06Speaker 4: to see who he's lining up with, you know, to
- 10:09Speaker 4: see how if he gets any reps with you know.
- 10:13Speaker 5: The first people that are out on the field. I
- 10:15Speaker 5: don't want to call him starters or the first squad,
- 10:17Speaker 5: but who is he lining up next to? Where is
- 10:20Speaker 5: he lining up? Because I think that he's a guy. Obviously,
- 10:24Speaker 5: Christian Gonzalez is the guy that.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Probably won't make the quickest impact, but right behind him
- 10:30Speaker 4: closely could be for me, Keon White. I mean, how
- 10:33Speaker 4: this defensive line operates.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Is going to be huge.
- 10:36Speaker 5: You know, that's where it all comes down to putting
- 10:39Speaker 5: pressure on the quarterback and covering well in this league.
- 10:42Speaker 5: You know, I saw a debate on Twitter today, Levan.
- 10:44Speaker 5: You probably saw it to, you know, about people saying
- 10:47Speaker 5: that to judge an NFL defense these days the same
- 10:51Speaker 5: way you.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Did twenty years ago or thirty years ago isn't fair.
- 10:54Speaker 6: You know.
- 10:55Speaker 5: It's rare that you have those complete shutdown defenses like
- 10:59Speaker 5: you did, you know in days gone by. Nowadays you
- 11:03Speaker 5: just hope it for a defense that can you know,
- 11:06Speaker 5: make about you know, three or four stops a game
- 11:09Speaker 5: the way today's NFL is so. But I think that
- 11:13Speaker 5: if the Patriots defensive line can take that next step,
- 11:16Speaker 5: if Barmore can be healthy and you know, realize his
- 11:19Speaker 5: potential key On White could come in and you know,
- 11:22Speaker 5: be part of that front seven and be disruptive. I
- 11:25Speaker 5: think I think the Patriots have a potential to be
- 11:28Speaker 5: a top five.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Defense, and I think that what goes along with that,
- 11:32Speaker 7: Fred two with helping this defense be more successful this
- 11:35Speaker 7: year is keeping them off the field. I feel like
- 11:37Speaker 7: they spend too much time on the field when you
- 11:39Speaker 7: have an offense that is unable to produce. So I
- 11:42Speaker 7: think that you know, keeping their bodies fresh and not
- 11:44Speaker 7: having them on the field the entire game could also
- 11:47Speaker 7: be really beneficial for this team to also prevent injuries
- 11:50Speaker 7: as well.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Yeah, getting off on third down. Getting off the field
- 11:53Speaker 4: on third down is critical, not just for the Patriots,
- 11:55Speaker 4: for every.
- 11:55Speaker 6: Team, you know, That's the way it is in this league.
- 11:58Speaker 5: So White's a guy I'm gonna be keing on, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 5: not just for the mini camps, but throughout you know
- 12:04Speaker 5: August as well.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, he was one of the surprises for me just
- 12:07Speaker 4: you know, I thought he was gonna be kind of
- 12:08Speaker 4: a you know, rotational hand down defensive lineman, but he's
- 12:12Speaker 4: really been doing a lot of work standing up and
- 12:14Speaker 4: you know, as Paul points out, I mean this is
- 12:16Speaker 4: the time to experiment.
- 12:16Speaker 9: A little bit.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Yep.
- 12:18Speaker 4: But one other player to point out is Matthew Judon
- 12:21Speaker 4: is here, So that's a good sign. He was one
- 12:23Speaker 4: guy that you know hadn't been around, so deuce about
- 12:26Speaker 4: him in the house. But does not appear that Trent
- 12:28Speaker 4: Brown is is here.
- 12:29Speaker 8: I'm watching the first couple of offensive lines go through
- 12:31Speaker 8: some of their walk through periods, and I don't see
- 12:33Speaker 8: Trent Brown included.
- 12:36Speaker 9: You know, how about Lawrence guy? Have we seen him? Nope,
- 12:38Speaker 9: he had not seen him. Another guy we haven't seen.
- 12:40Speaker 6: He just had a baby, just another baby.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Yeah, so that might be he might have an an
- 12:47Speaker 5: excused absence.
- 12:50Speaker 6: I know Judon I was talking to.
- 12:52Speaker 5: I was talking to Donna, who runs our community relations
- 12:54Speaker 5: this morning. She goes, Matthew jude On better be here
- 12:57Speaker 5: because he's in two of my events this week.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Yeah, they got them, They got them all booked. This
- 13:02Speaker 4: is the week to get it all done and then
- 13:03Speaker 4: everybody kind of shuts down until training camps. So yep,
- 13:07Speaker 4: kind of the last hurrah here of of the off season.
- 13:10Speaker 5: I guess you would call it a lot of a
- 13:13Speaker 5: lot of visitors on the field. Often college programs come
- 13:19Speaker 5: check out the practice. They're guests of Bill Belichick and
- 13:22Speaker 5: just to watch how the Patriots run their practice. So
- 13:26Speaker 5: I see a lot of you know, sometimes we get
- 13:28Speaker 5: word of who's who's visiting at some point during the practice.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Always interesting to see what programs come by.
- 13:35Speaker 4: And guys, what did Bill have to say? I didn't
- 13:38Speaker 4: catch his press conference, But does it sound like Dobson
- 13:41Speaker 4: and Lagarrett Blunt are part of the staff yet?
- 13:44Speaker 3: No, not part of this staff yet, they're they're in
- 13:46Speaker 3: the Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship, which just gives them exposure
- 13:50Speaker 3: to training camps, OTA's mini camps, off season programs to
- 13:55Speaker 3: hopefully eventually you lead to a coaching career, or whether
- 13:59Speaker 3: it's making connections or just kind of getting a feel
- 14:02Speaker 3: for what exactly coaching entails. Either way, the end goal
- 14:06Speaker 3: is to get those guys into coaching in some capacity.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So not in a formal capacity on the staff yet,
- 14:12Speaker 3: but two guys that could be.
- 14:14Speaker 8: I had heard, and I didn't look this up, so
- 14:17Speaker 8: it might not be accurate, but I heard that Dobson had.
- 14:20Speaker 9: A position within the football program at Marshall.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 8: I don't think it was necessarily a coaching position. I
- 14:25Speaker 8: thought it may have been like more of an operations
- 14:28Speaker 8: type role. But yeah, clearly he's trying to get himself
- 14:32Speaker 8: into that that line of business.
- 14:33Speaker 6: All right, So I think right now they're doing some
- 14:36Speaker 6: quick seven on seven. It looks like.
- 14:38Speaker 9: Early walks, walk through stuff.
- 14:40Speaker 6: Yeah, yep, So maybe we can talk about what they're
- 14:45Speaker 6: looking at.
- 14:45Speaker 8: And this is one of those times, I believe where
- 14:47Speaker 8: the cameras are off right for any right, so we'll
- 14:50Speaker 8: just you know, they're getting set to.
- 14:53Speaker 9: To get into their their routine.
- 14:55Speaker 8: It's it's walked through with offense going on both fields simultaneous.
- 15:00Speaker 8: But yeah, so no, Trent Brown is I think something
- 15:06Speaker 8: to really keep an eye on, you know, moving forward.
- 15:08Speaker 8: I think that they have and we should mention. There
- 15:12Speaker 8: was a report I saw Mike Giardi this morning. I'm
- 15:15Speaker 8: sure others had it about d J Flucker, who's a
- 15:18Speaker 8: veteran defensive tackle in this league, been around a while.
- 15:22Speaker 9: I don't think he.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Played last year.
- 15:23Speaker 3: He hasn't played for a couple of years.
- 15:25Speaker 9: Yeah, so he's looking to get by. There's a report
- 15:27Speaker 9: that he is in Foxborough for a workout today or
- 15:32Speaker 9: sometime during this Yeah, this mini camp.
- 15:34Speaker 8: So I think the offensive tackle position is definitely something worth.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Yeah, it's interesting with Flucker.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I guess he, you know, lost like sixty pounds and
- 15:43Speaker 5: he's really worked hard to get back in shape. Really,
- 15:46Speaker 5: and you look at guys like that that have been
- 15:48Speaker 5: away for the game, that worked that hard to get back,
- 15:51Speaker 5: you'd say, oh, maybe, you know, maybe they could make
- 15:53Speaker 5: a comeback. Maybe he's realized like what he's missing. You know,
- 15:57Speaker 5: he's been around for a while.
- 15:58Speaker 6: He's he got drafted in two thousand thirteen eleventh overall. Yes,
- 16:02Speaker 6: I mean he's he's no spring chicken. He's dropped a.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Bunch of weight, like I yes, seventy pounds.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Yeah, but he's still at like three forty.
- 16:09Speaker 8: Yeah, but he lost seventy pounds and he's still three forty.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Not seventy, I think like sixty. But yeah, yeah he was.
- 16:17Speaker 6: He was way up there.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Yeah, got the king of offseason worked out videos. Right.
- 16:23Speaker 3: This guy looks like he's a cyborg. I mean, yeah,
- 16:26Speaker 3: he looks absolutely jacked out of his mind. But I
- 16:29Speaker 3: mean they could have drafted the tackle.
- 16:31Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I mean, like, well I don't. I'm not like too
- 16:35Speaker 3: worried about the tackles quite yet, because I do think
- 16:38Speaker 3: you can scheme around tackles with a good offensive coordinator.
- 16:41Speaker 3: But that's one position that I continue to look at,
- 16:44Speaker 3: even maybe more so than wide receiver, as a spot
- 16:47Speaker 3: that could really hold this offense back if you got
- 16:51Speaker 3: two guys. So whether it's Mac or Bailey, is probably
- 16:53Speaker 3: gonna be Mac. That ore pocket passers. You know, the
- 16:55Speaker 3: guys are not going to move around. They're not gonna
- 16:57Speaker 3: elude pressure on their own too often, and you got
- 17:00Speaker 3: to keep them up right. And if these two tackles
- 17:02Speaker 3: spots end up being an issue like they were at
- 17:05Speaker 3: times last year, especially right tackle, it's it's a problem.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I mean, it really is a problem. And they now
- 17:11Speaker 3: they're even working out d J. Flucker And we talked
- 17:13Speaker 3: about it at the draft. All of us talked about
- 17:16Speaker 3: tackles as you know, what options they had in the
- 17:19Speaker 3: draft of tackles. And I do think you're going to
- 17:21Speaker 3: look back on that and say they passed on some
- 17:24Speaker 3: guys on Day two, especially I wouldn't swap out Christian Gonzalez,
- 17:28Speaker 3: but maybe one of those Day two guys could they
- 17:31Speaker 3: have had a tackle? And Marty Mapo, could they have
- 17:33Speaker 3: had a tackle?
- 17:34Speaker 6: You know?
- 17:35Speaker 3: And Keon White, So it's it's definitely a spot that
- 17:38Speaker 3: I'm looking at going forward.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I mean, the interesting thing to me, is it really
- 17:41Speaker 4: Calvin Anderson's the only real left tackle you have even
- 17:44Speaker 4: on the roster. I mean, you know, Trent Brown, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 4: played most of his career, you know, on the right side,
- 17:49Speaker 4: with the exception being here the two seasons he played
- 17:51Speaker 4: the left side, So you know, I think Reese also
- 17:53Speaker 4: wrote about Riley Reef coming in, you know, like he's
- 17:56Speaker 4: clearly at the end of the line of his career,
- 17:59Speaker 4: but brings like a the baseline of stability that I
- 18:01Speaker 4: think that they you know, sorely lacked last year. Now
- 18:04Speaker 4: is he gonna get the job done?
- 18:05Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I mean, you were even seeing someone Andrew Stuber injured
- 18:08Speaker 4: all last year career right tackle at Michigan. You know,
- 18:12Speaker 4: now he's working on the left side a little bit,
- 18:14Speaker 4: So I think, you know, to Evan's point, you just
- 18:16Speaker 4: you don't really have a lot of athleticism at that spot,
- 18:18Speaker 4: which is traditionally what you look for on that left side.
- 18:21Speaker 4: That you know, you get a guy like we talked
- 18:23Speaker 4: about Isaiah win forever here, like not biggest, but a
- 18:25Speaker 4: really athletic guy who can move his feet and that
- 18:27Speaker 4: you know, fit kind of the mold that they were
- 18:29Speaker 4: looking for, but I'm not sure what the outlook is.
- 18:32Speaker 4: And I think with you know, bringing in Flucker, it's
- 18:34Speaker 4: just a sign that they are still trying to figure
- 18:36Speaker 4: it out too well.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just weird because when we spoke to Macro
- 18:40Speaker 3: before the draft. After the draft, he was pretty bullish
- 18:44Speaker 3: on their tackle situation. And I'm not trying to make
- 18:46Speaker 3: it too big a deal out of DJ Flucker, but
- 18:48Speaker 3: I just I don't know. I feel like that's one
- 18:51Speaker 3: spot that you don't want to turn the offense into.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Everything has to be near the line of scrimmage because
- 18:56Speaker 3: he can't block it long enough to push it down
- 18:58Speaker 3: the field. I go back to like Miami a couple
- 19:00Speaker 3: of years ago and two US, you know, first and
- 19:03Speaker 3: second year in the league. Everything is misdirection, r po,
- 19:06Speaker 3: five yard passes and smoking mirrors because they're coaching around
- 19:10Speaker 3: an offensive line that can't block. So you don't want
- 19:13Speaker 3: to be that team.
- 19:14Speaker 4: So, you know, with Trent Brown, do we have any
- 19:16Speaker 4: indication why he may not be here?
- 19:18Speaker 8: Oh that's not I do not, But I just found
- 19:21Speaker 8: it interesting that a couple of people speculated that he
- 19:24Speaker 8: may not be here this morning in some of the
- 19:27Speaker 8: reports that I read this morning, and usually when you
- 19:30Speaker 8: see the writers, you know, sort of having a similar
- 19:34Speaker 8: kind of a narrative that it comes from somewhere and
- 19:38Speaker 8: maybe the agent's upset.
- 19:39Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 19:40Speaker 5: I mean, you know, no idea Saquon Barkley is holding
- 19:43Speaker 5: out for the Giants, And so you always wonder when
- 19:46Speaker 5: a guy's not here and you haven't heard of an injury,
- 19:49Speaker 5: like is he upset about something? And you go back
- 19:51Speaker 5: to last year when he was switched over to right
- 19:54Speaker 5: tackle left tackle, and but you know, was signed you
- 19:59Speaker 5: know under maybe right tackle money.
- 20:03Speaker 6: You're like, is he still pissy about that? You don't know.
- 20:06Speaker 8: I think that I think everything is on the table, Fred, Yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 8: because you like to always sorry, talk about the media,
- 20:12Speaker 8: right there's a sizable media contingent being that on the
- 20:15Speaker 8: field right now.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 5: So right now you see the the players warming up.
- 20:20Speaker 5: We're looking at the offense right now in their white jerseys.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Who's fifty five in red?
- 20:28Speaker 4: That's Antonio Maffifi, new guy red. And uh, I don't
- 20:35Speaker 4: know how you guys are feeling about your attendance right now,
- 20:37Speaker 4: but I feel like, should.
- 20:38Speaker 3: We do a little behind the scenes inside baseball of
- 20:40Speaker 3: us reading through.
- 20:41Speaker 11: The Yeah, I'm closing in on it too. Loo can
- 20:44Speaker 11: throw out a few here. James Robinson, I do not
- 20:47Speaker 11: have him. No Juju Smith, Schuster, have Taekwon Thornton.
- 20:51Speaker 7: No.
- 20:53Speaker 4: I assume t Hayes and Okasi are probably here, but
- 20:57Speaker 4: I do not have I did not.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Have neither did I?
- 21:00Speaker 4: Uh boy, I did not see I have not. I
- 21:04Speaker 4: have not seen him terres Hall.
- 21:07Speaker 6: So are there any wide receivers here?
- 21:09Speaker 9: I think I did do?
- 21:12Speaker 4: And when you not here?
- 21:13Speaker 9: Uh?
- 21:15Speaker 4: Uh gotcha?
- 21:16Speaker 5: And god James White h saying hello to uh his
- 21:21Speaker 5: former teammates.
- 21:22Speaker 9: I have.
- 21:24Speaker 7: I feel like this is why, this is why train
- 21:26Speaker 7: nicks and shines at moments like this, because no one
- 21:29Speaker 7: was here last year.
- 21:30Speaker 6: I think either, right.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Make the most of your opportunities, that's right, Yeah, But
- 21:36Speaker 4: I think that was you know, what we saw the
- 21:37Speaker 4: last oh T was was no Juju and and no Thornton.
- 21:41Speaker 4: And you know, I think that the tight ends have
- 21:43Speaker 4: kind of been, you know, the focal point of of
- 21:46Speaker 4: what they've been doing so far. You just you didn't
- 21:47Speaker 4: see a lot of action for Booty or Douglas in
- 21:50Speaker 4: that last practice. It was you know, primarily going to
- 21:53Speaker 4: the tight end. So I think that's where the intrigue
- 21:55Speaker 4: of the offenses more so than I know, we were
- 21:57Speaker 4: all kind of excited they took a couple of six
- 21:59Speaker 4: round flyers, but I think really the the interesting thing
- 22:02Speaker 4: is they just they didn't. They never got anything out
- 22:03Speaker 4: of John who Smith. So you know, it's not hard
- 22:06Speaker 4: to to talk yourself into Gasiki being an up upgrade
- 22:08Speaker 4: all that. I didn't have a more production and he
- 22:11Speaker 4: just looks more athletic. I mean, John Who just never
- 22:13Speaker 4: looked more naturally to me, never looked natural. UHSICKI is
- 22:17Speaker 4: a tall drink of water, but he's athletic, and uh,
- 22:20Speaker 4: I think that's the interesting element that we see too.
- 22:22Speaker 6: We haven't seen him at Yeah, I saw Kasiki. He
- 22:24Speaker 6: was down there for media day today briefly with his
- 22:27Speaker 6: shirt off, very thin.
- 22:29Speaker 4: How many apps.
- 22:30Speaker 9: I mean, I really don't understand you.
- 22:34Speaker 5: But I mean, but he definitely looks like a big
- 22:37Speaker 5: wide receiver rather than endure you.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Yeah, basketball guy.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Maybe you just watch them the way that they've used
- 22:43Speaker 3: him in a few of these practices. Just looks so
- 22:45Speaker 3: much more natural running routes and catching the football than
- 22:48Speaker 3: John Who ever did no question. Johnny is a I
- 22:51Speaker 3: think that one thing that really surprised me with him
- 22:53Speaker 3: was how robotic and how much he fought the football
- 22:56Speaker 3: at times.
- 22:57Speaker 12: Yes, and didn't fight the football gets sick just I
- 23:01Speaker 12: mean they were using him like to bring him into
- 23:03Speaker 12: little tight motions and then have him run routes out
- 23:05Speaker 12: of stacks and bunches and things like that, like that's
- 23:08Speaker 12: a wide receiver role.
- 23:09Speaker 3: That's not that's not things that tight ends do. And
- 23:12Speaker 3: he just looks smooth, natural. I'm excited about what they're
- 23:16Speaker 3: gonna do with both those guys. They're they're a little
- 23:17Speaker 3: bit they're a little similar, So I'm interested to see
- 23:21Speaker 3: how that kind of works itself out. Neither one of
- 23:24Speaker 3: them is a true hand in the dirt. Yeah, that's
- 23:26Speaker 3: you know, in line tight end. And I don't know
- 23:28Speaker 3: how well that's gonna play off of each other, but.
- 23:30Speaker 4: That's interesting to me. Evan was was just reading an
- 23:33Speaker 4: old quote from Bill O'Brien back in I think it
- 23:36Speaker 4: was twenty eleven, when you know things are really humming
- 23:39Speaker 4: along with Gronkowski and Hernandez, and you know, he just
- 23:41Speaker 4: kind of gave a rudimentary description of what he's looking
- 23:45Speaker 4: for and you know, he said, you got to have
- 23:47Speaker 4: a wide tight end who can block. Yeah, and you know,
- 23:49Speaker 4: Hunter Henry, I think he improved last year, but I
- 23:51Speaker 4: don't think that he's ever going to be a guy
- 23:54Speaker 4: that that really is a plus blocker in that way.
- 23:56Speaker 4: So another area that they might need.
- 23:59Speaker 7: You kind of hope that Hunter Henry gets back to,
- 24:01Speaker 7: you know, being more productive well, I mean the whole
- 24:03Speaker 7: offense as a hole in the red zone, but more
- 24:05Speaker 7: productive in the red zone. I feel like his first year, yeah,
- 24:08Speaker 7: he had double digit touchdowns and now you know, obviously
- 24:10Speaker 7: last year as a hole, they struggled there. But you know,
- 24:13Speaker 7: even if he's not the best blocker, you know, he
- 24:15Speaker 7: was able to scare a few touchdowns his first year.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I mean, I think, you know, like everybody says, like,
- 24:19Speaker 4: you know, the reason that they struggled sometimes on offense
- 24:22Speaker 4: is lack of talent, And I mean there's certainly I
- 24:23Speaker 4: think that that's true to a degree, but I think
- 24:25Speaker 4: that you know, even in twenty twenty one, they were
- 24:27Speaker 4: a serviceable red zone offense, yep, but you see last
- 24:30Speaker 4: year what happens when you don't quite have the talent
- 24:33Speaker 4: and you don't have the scheme anymore. You don't have
- 24:35Speaker 4: the way that you know, Josh McDaniels was able to,
- 24:37Speaker 4: you know, catch teams off guard or you know, maybe
- 24:39Speaker 4: spring a surprise play here or there that you know,
- 24:41Speaker 4: scored them some points in the red zone made him
- 24:43Speaker 4: a little bit more productive. They felt the you know,
- 24:44Speaker 4: the worst team in the leagu last year in the
- 24:46Speaker 4: reds What was the percentage of touchdowns they scored from
- 24:48Speaker 4: outside twenty yards? It was like it was pretty high, right, Well,
- 24:52Speaker 4: that's you know, and that goes back to the point
- 24:54Speaker 4: we said earlier. You know, they would hit some big plays.
- 24:56Speaker 4: They hit some plays down the field last year. You know,
- 24:58Speaker 4: Algilorea had a few, Parker a few, but you know,
- 25:01Speaker 4: it just it just was like that's a.
- 25:02Speaker 6: Little easier for them than when they're in the redone.
- 25:05Speaker 9: Well, it's just because they could not score in the
- 25:07Speaker 9: red zone at all.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, and I.
- 25:08Speaker 8: Think the difference two years ago is they ran the
- 25:11Speaker 8: ball much more effectively in the red zone. Damien Harris
- 25:14Speaker 8: had fifteen rushing touchdowns and I think largely that was
- 25:18Speaker 8: missing last year. And I think the reason that was missing,
- 25:20Speaker 8: the reason that they made so many mistakes in the
- 25:23Speaker 8: red zone how many falls starts?
- 25:25Speaker 9: Yeah, how many fall starts, you know, and all of
- 25:27Speaker 9: a sudden, you know, instead of second goal from the three,
- 25:29Speaker 9: it's second to goal from from the eight, and you
- 25:32Speaker 9: can't run anymore, right audiences.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Worst night there is like first in goal from the fifteen.
- 25:38Speaker 3: It's like, what do you do?
- 25:39Speaker 13: You know?
- 25:40Speaker 8: They took their biggest weapon away from them in the
- 25:42Speaker 8: red zone, And I'm not saying that was the only cause,
- 25:45Speaker 8: but I just think that was a big part of it.
- 25:47Speaker 8: The amount of penalties they had in the red zone
- 25:49Speaker 8: last year, Yeah, was in sacks.
- 25:51Speaker 9: You know, they would take a sack or some negative
- 25:53Speaker 9: places and kill you.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And I think a lot of coaches would say that
- 25:57Speaker 3: they would either rather just skip the red zone or
- 26:00Speaker 3: get it inside the five. Like being from like the
- 26:02Speaker 3: sixth to the nineteen is where you don't want to
- 26:05Speaker 3: be because it's so compact in there to pass the ball,
- 26:08Speaker 3: and if you're not going to be a great power
- 26:10Speaker 3: run team, then what do you really do gonna do
- 26:12Speaker 3: down there in that area of the field.
- 26:14Speaker 8: So and I don't think they ran the ball in
- 26:16Speaker 8: general last year as well as they did the year before.
- 26:18Speaker 3: No, they did not, I mean any part Remandre did,
- 26:22Speaker 3: but yes, all by himself.
- 26:24Speaker 6: Yeah, he was exactly doing it on his own.
- 26:26Speaker 5: And you know, back to Pell's point with the mistakes,
- 26:29Speaker 5: you know, that's been kind of the story of the
- 26:32Speaker 5: Patriots the last couple of years, maybe three years, is
- 26:35Speaker 5: mistakes that other teams used to make, you know, but
- 26:38Speaker 5: now the Patriots are making him and that's something they
- 26:40Speaker 5: need to clean up. And you hope that Bill O'Brien
- 26:42Speaker 5: coming here, will you know, have a hand in, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 5: cleaning up those those mental eras that they've been having
- 26:48Speaker 5: over the last couple of years.
- 26:49Speaker 7: I feel like there were not only mental Arizon offense though,
- 26:52Speaker 7: they were also on special teams who just kind of
- 26:55Speaker 7: especially last year.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a good point, you know, special teams. Ever,
- 26:59Speaker 5: you know what Rendon Schooler, who we all love, but
- 27:02Speaker 5: you know, he'd make as many bonehead plays as he
- 27:05Speaker 5: would grape la plays. You know, you got to clean
- 27:08Speaker 5: that up. You know, you're not that good where you
- 27:11Speaker 5: can afford those. You know, you can't overcome them as
- 27:14Speaker 5: easily as you used to. So see Mac Jones out there,
- 27:19Speaker 5: I don't know what he's actually doing, but he's running.
- 27:23Speaker 5: He's doing like a little I was run of a
- 27:25Speaker 5: move something, a Taylor Swift move maybe.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:30Speaker 3: So no James Robinson that I have seen.
- 27:33Speaker 9: I have not seen him, and I got.
- 27:35Speaker 3: To be honest. I look, I it's it's OTA's there's
- 27:38Speaker 3: no prads whatever, all the caveats. But I didn't really
- 27:42Speaker 3: think that he had much juice out here at the
- 27:45Speaker 3: last couple of practices that we've seen, and now he's
- 27:47Speaker 3: not out here at all in this practice. I mean, yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 3: at what point do we start talking about that Achilles
- 27:53Speaker 3: and maybe that it never came back for James Robinson
- 27:56Speaker 3: because it certainly didn't look like it came back last year.
- 28:00Speaker 6: To be honest, Unfortunately, during these practices, the teams are
- 28:03Speaker 6: not required to, you know.
- 28:05Speaker 5: Put out injury reports. Sometimes it leaks out through the
- 28:07Speaker 5: agent or whatever, but so you just never know why
- 28:11Speaker 5: a guy isn't at practice.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I Alswoll should say. There's reports going around
- 28:18Speaker 4: right now too that they are resigning Justice Tavai. So
- 28:23Speaker 4: Jelani Teva's brother is they cut him two weeks ago.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Now he's back, so undrafted rookie. Kind of funny too,
- 28:31Speaker 4: because we talked to Tavai on Friday and what was
- 28:33Speaker 4: it like for your brother, I was awesome. What's next
- 28:35Speaker 4: for him?
- 28:35Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 28:36Speaker 4: So here we are Monday. He's back on the team.
- 28:38Speaker 4: So weird, there you go.
- 28:39Speaker 5: That happens a lot in the offseason, guys go they
- 28:42Speaker 5: tell you, you know, don't pack your bags.
- 28:44Speaker 4: But that I mean, assuming you know, nothing's happening with
- 28:46Speaker 4: with James Robinson or anybody that that would put them
- 28:49Speaker 4: in ninety players officially, So you know, a little bit
- 28:53Speaker 4: of a grain assault with the d J Fluker stuff,
- 28:55Speaker 4: not like you know, all right, we're going to get
- 28:56Speaker 4: him in right away kind of thing.
- 28:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 9: Well, DeAndre Hopkins, yeah yeah, we should mention Hopkins a
- 29:02Speaker 9: little bit.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I do.
- 29:04Speaker 7: I do think it's kind of interesting that Bill confirmed
- 29:07Speaker 7: that he has been in communication with him.
- 29:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, you know, it was reported that he's going
- 29:12Speaker 4: to be coming for a tryout or workout this week.
- 29:16Speaker 4: And uh, you know, Evan, I was listening to you
- 29:19Speaker 4: and Alex on The Catch twenty two on Friday, and
- 29:22Speaker 4: you brought up, you know, the three boxes that got
- 29:26Speaker 4: checked for the Patriots, according to what Hopkins stress, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 4: was important for him, And yes, yeah, once you wanted
- 29:33Speaker 4: to go over that, well.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I mean look, there's three boxes that he said publicly,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and there's obviously the fourth box that we can all
- 29:39Speaker 3: connect the dots on, which is money. But besides, he's
- 29:42Speaker 3: not going to come out and say that side of
- 29:44Speaker 3: it necessarily. But I think the three things that he
- 29:46Speaker 3: said that were important. One that he wants a stable management.
- 29:51Speaker 3: He's been through a lot of different regimes in his
- 29:53Speaker 3: career and he's looking for a team that has a
- 29:56Speaker 3: top to bottom stable upstairs, as he put it, And
- 29:59Speaker 3: I I think the Patriots clearly checked that box. And
- 30:02Speaker 3: the second one was a quarterback that loves the game,
- 30:06Speaker 3: and he really went into more detail into it in
- 30:09Speaker 3: a longer answer, but he said that he doesn't need
- 30:13Speaker 3: an elite quarterback. You know, he's done it with the TJ.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yates's and the Matt Shobs and the you know those
- 30:19Speaker 3: types of guys, so he doesn't necessarily feel like he
- 30:21Speaker 3: needs to play with Patrick Mahomes to produce. But he
- 30:25Speaker 3: wants a quarterback that is a football junkie. Is a
- 30:28Speaker 3: guy that's going to be here at six a m.
- 30:29Speaker 3: And put in the work and do all those things
- 30:32Speaker 3: behind the scenes. And as much as you could say that,
- 30:35Speaker 3: you don't believe in mac Jones or you don't think
- 30:37Speaker 3: he's the guy or whatever. I don't think his work
- 30:39Speaker 3: ethic or his love for the game has ever been
- 30:42Speaker 3: in question, So I feel like that's something that he
- 30:45Speaker 3: checks as well. And then the last thing was great defense.
- 30:48Speaker 3: He feels like defense wins championships, is what he said,
- 30:51Speaker 3: and he wants to go to a team that has
- 30:53Speaker 3: a great defense. And I think, for maybe more reading
- 30:57Speaker 3: between the lines here, just a team that has three
- 31:00Speaker 3: phases that are all pulling the rope at the same time.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I think throughout his career it's kind of been up
- 31:05Speaker 3: and down, especially in Arizona. I was like the offense
- 31:08Speaker 3: was good for a while, the defense wasn't as good,
- 31:10Speaker 3: and you go back and forth with that. So I
- 31:13Speaker 3: think the Patriots check all three of those boxes. And
- 31:16Speaker 3: now it just comes down to money and contract and
- 31:18Speaker 3: are they willing to meet his demands in that department.
- 31:21Speaker 3: But yeah, in terms of what he's looking for for
- 31:23Speaker 3: his next team, I think that kind of describes the Patriot.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Honestly, I agree, And it's almost like he scripted it
- 31:31Speaker 5: just so you know, in case the Patriots were listening,
- 31:33Speaker 5: Hey I'm interested, and you know, well.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I want to highlight. I got to do the Paull
- 31:38Speaker 4: thing and then highlight on Mike g Reese thing. But
- 31:41Speaker 4: you know, Reese highlighting doesn't like to practice. I thought
- 31:43Speaker 4: that that was interesting this weekend. You know, just that's
- 31:47Speaker 4: something that I know, everything Evan said is right and
- 31:50Speaker 4: there isn't really a reason to say why not. And
- 31:52Speaker 4: I thought Reese, of all people, was the only one
- 31:55Speaker 4: to really kind of throw a little bit of cold
- 31:56Speaker 4: water on it of the idea of why the Patriots
- 31:59Speaker 4: may not want to make the move.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Well, and any team hasn't jumped, you know, like they
- 32:04Speaker 5: could have traded for him before he was released as well,
- 32:08Speaker 5: and no team has jumped, And so you know that
- 32:10Speaker 5: could be one of the reasons that I think that.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Was more contract related. I mean, he was due that
- 32:16Speaker 3: nineteen million dollars that nobody wanted to pay. But I
- 32:19Speaker 3: love rees legend. I hate the practice thing. I'm not
- 32:23Speaker 3: paying DeAndre Hopkins to practice. I'm sorry, like, well, but
- 32:26Speaker 3: this is an Alan Iverson moment.
- 32:28Speaker 5: It's like, I don't want a guy coming in who's
- 32:31Speaker 5: going to be making a lot of money, who's going
- 32:32Speaker 5: to be like that. And I'll bet you if he
- 32:34Speaker 5: did come, he would be like that.
- 32:36Speaker 3: No, I don't think he would be at all. But
- 32:38Speaker 3: my general, my overall point to that is a I
- 32:40Speaker 3: agree with you, Fred one hundred percent that I think
- 32:43Speaker 3: he would be bought into the program at least for
- 32:45Speaker 3: this year. If you want to talk about what it's
- 32:47Speaker 3: like two or three years down the line, if you
- 32:49Speaker 3: sign him out that long, then that's a different story.
- 32:51Speaker 3: But I think for this year he'd be invested and
- 32:54Speaker 3: he'd be here. But at the end of the day,
- 32:56Speaker 3: you're paying players like DeAndre Hopkins for Sunday. You're not
- 32:59Speaker 3: paying play for DeAndre Hopkins for Monday through Saturday. And
- 33:03Speaker 3: he'll put in the work and be ready to play
- 33:05Speaker 3: on Sunday, even if he's not practicing at the same
- 33:07Speaker 3: level that you know, the Mario Douglas is practicing at
- 33:11Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 33:11Speaker 6: I mean.
- 33:12Speaker 4: We talked about it on Thursday's Patriots Unfiltered Show. You know,
- 33:14Speaker 4: when they traded for Randy Moss and in O seven
- 33:18Speaker 4: the word out of Oakland or LA was I forget
- 33:21Speaker 4: which way they were at the time, Oakland that you know,
- 33:24Speaker 4: he might have been dogging it that that word was used.
- 33:27Speaker 6: But he got here and he wasn't. He was a
- 33:30Speaker 6: good teammate. He was a good practice player, although he
- 33:32Speaker 6: didn't practice much in the training camp. Got hurt, but
- 33:36Speaker 6: there was no problems there. And I think that, you know,
- 33:39Speaker 6: you bring in Hopkins and at least for the first year,
- 33:43Speaker 6: he'll he'll, you know, make an effort to be bought in.
- 33:46Speaker 7: I also think people are are different everywhere they go.
- 33:48Speaker 7: Like there are some people that might be a certain
- 33:51Speaker 7: way at one team and they're totally different at this team.
- 33:53Speaker 5: They start to get sick of it, they start to
- 33:55Speaker 5: dig their heels in, you know, and and that it
- 34:00Speaker 5: happens especially with wide receivers, you know, the divas of
- 34:03Speaker 5: the NFL. But listen, I'm all for signing them. I
- 34:07Speaker 5: you know, I want to sign them.
- 34:10Speaker 4: I'm all for it too. I think, I mean, my
- 34:12Speaker 4: point bringing it up wasn't that I think he doesn't
- 34:14Speaker 4: want to practice. I just think that it seems like
- 34:17Speaker 4: somebody maybe wants it out there that he doesn't want
- 34:19Speaker 4: to practice.
- 34:19Speaker 8: Yeah, to talk about what we would we would prefer,
- 34:23Speaker 8: I think is irrelevant. I think when that stuff gets
- 34:26Speaker 8: gets written like that, I think there's a reason it's
- 34:29Speaker 8: written like that. I'm sort of not I'm not anticipating
- 34:33Speaker 8: it right now. I was much more optimistic, I think
- 34:36Speaker 8: on Friday, I wonder I kind of thought I kind
- 34:41Speaker 8: of went into the weekend thinking that we might get
- 34:43Speaker 8: some news that WHOA, the Patriots actually swooped in, they
- 34:47Speaker 8: talked to him, and they're going to sign them. They're
- 34:48Speaker 8: not waiting for him to go to Nashville and talk
- 34:51Speaker 8: to Mike Rabel and the Titans, which I think is
- 34:53Speaker 8: happening today, right, yep. I thought there was a chance
- 34:57Speaker 8: that you might hear the Patriots reaching an agreement with
- 34:59Speaker 8: him over the way weekend. So instead of seeing that,
- 35:02Speaker 8: why did you think that? Because I thought, why would
- 35:05Speaker 8: you put it out there that you're gonna meet with
- 35:07Speaker 8: a guy after he meets with another team.
- 35:09Speaker 9: I thought that was odd, and that in the meantime
- 35:12Speaker 9: we get we get.
- 35:13Speaker 6: A you're assuming, you're assuming that the Patriots put it
- 35:16Speaker 6: out there.
- 35:17Speaker 9: But they certainly weren't unhappy with another coach would have
- 35:19Speaker 9: not not commented on it today.
- 35:22Speaker 6: They weren't happy with it.
- 35:24Speaker 8: But anyway, No, no, I think they were happy with it
- 35:27Speaker 8: based on him addressing it today.
- 35:29Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe maybe because he had to, But.
- 35:32Speaker 9: I've seen Bill many times say, we don't comment on
- 35:34Speaker 9: guys that aren't on our rosters. Yeah, it's a blanket
- 35:37Speaker 9: statement that he uses for pretty much all.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that, you know, I think uh Hopkins
- 35:43Speaker 6: went to the trouble of actually getting himself an agent,
- 35:46Speaker 6: so I think he probably thinks, you know, I owe
- 35:49Speaker 6: the agent and myself the chance to see, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 6: go to the teams and not get signed early. You know,
- 35:55Speaker 6: the Patriots. He hasn't been here yet.
- 35:57Speaker 3: This is the first time that he's a restricted free
- 35:59Speaker 3: agent in his career because he was traded from Houston
- 36:02Speaker 3: to Arizona, so he's never been a UFA officially. So
- 36:05Speaker 3: I honestly think that, plus just knowing a little bit
- 36:08Speaker 3: about his personality, he might like it that these teams
- 36:12Speaker 3: are you know. You know, he took an Instagram.
- 36:14Speaker 8: Absolutely no interest at all, and all of a sudden,
- 36:19Speaker 8: two teams in twenty four hours are meeting with him.
- 36:21Speaker 9: I absolutely agree with Evan. I think he loves it.
- 36:24Speaker 3: He posted on Instagram last night that he was in
- 36:26Speaker 3: Nashville and he's in this like decked out sprinter van
- 36:29Speaker 3: and there's.
- 36:29Speaker 9: Like the country music yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and it says like welcome to you know, Nashville
- 36:35Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins and it's there's a photoshop of DeAndre Hopkins
- 36:39Speaker 3: and the Titans jersey in the van.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Is the Street Team minivan available?
- 36:43Speaker 9: Fred Counter?
- 36:46Speaker 3: So somebody, yeah, somebody made the joke that that Bill
- 36:49Speaker 3: will send a cab.
- 36:49Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, to pick him up at the price.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's funny.
- 36:55Speaker 6: No disrespect to the prius.
- 36:58Speaker 3: It's just I do think that there is a little
- 37:00Speaker 3: bit of that going on, that he wants to be wooed,
- 37:02Speaker 3: he wants to be whined and behind. I don't think
- 37:05Speaker 3: that he is looking to just to just make this
- 37:08Speaker 3: decision quickly. And I also think that this prolongs it
- 37:10Speaker 3: past the off season program, which is not a mistake.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I don't think he has any desire whatsoever to be
- 37:16Speaker 3: out there at these practices right now.
- 37:17Speaker 4: So can I just say something, I just real quick,
- 37:20Speaker 4: like what's going on? It just cracks me up that
- 37:21Speaker 4: we like, wait for mini camp. It's mandatory mini camp.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Everybody's got to be here, and they spend like the
- 37:25Speaker 4: first ten minutes like running with rubber bands and pulling
- 37:28Speaker 4: weights like it's like nothing that like is of any
- 37:30Speaker 4: interest really just to kick things off. But Paul Bill
- 37:36Speaker 4: said that this morning, let me live the lie and
- 37:39Speaker 4: every year will be reconfirmed for me.
- 37:41Speaker 7: To your point, is that why people are you know,
- 37:43Speaker 7: going away from it or not keeping all three days?
- 37:46Speaker 6: It could be, you know, we've got enough done during OTAs.
- 37:50Speaker 6: We don't really need to extend it.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, realistically, you have one guy here,
- 37:55Speaker 4: Matthew Judon, and otherwise it's it's the same group, you know,
- 37:57Speaker 4: like that's really the only difference at least as far
- 37:59Speaker 4: as like what's going on is that Judon.
- 38:01Speaker 6: Is here or you know, it could be like, hey,
- 38:03Speaker 6: we had great attendance during ot A, there's no reason
- 38:06Speaker 6: to have these mandatory mini camps. Now we say teams
- 38:10Speaker 6: going away for it.
- 38:11Speaker 5: How many teams are actually you know, canceling mini camp?
- 38:15Speaker 9: A handful five or a handful?
- 38:17Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's a lot. Yeah, it's more than in
- 38:21Speaker 6: the past.
- 38:22Speaker 9: And I don't remember anybody doing it in the past.
- 38:24Speaker 8: Yeah, and now I think you also see teams, you know,
- 38:30Speaker 8: eliminating a day here or there. And the Patriots have
- 38:32Speaker 8: done that many times sure in the recent past.
- 38:35Speaker 9: They did it last year.
- 38:36Speaker 7: Ye.
- 38:37Speaker 8: So we'll see if we end up doing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 38:40Speaker 8: I mean that's what the schedule is as of now.
- 38:41Speaker 9: Yeah, right, we'll see if that ends up holding well, if.
- 38:43Speaker 4: They're working hard here today, then maybe they'll they'll cancel
- 38:46Speaker 4: it with the sprints.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Between the lines, it seemed like they're going to practice.
- 38:49Speaker 7: All Yeah, I think just because they lost those two
- 38:51Speaker 7: days of OTAs, I'm thinking that they might do all
- 38:53Speaker 7: three days.
- 38:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I think so too. I think so too.
- 38:57Speaker 9: Was there something at the press conference that you're reading
- 38:59Speaker 9: between the lines.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Yeah, he said, we'll see, but it sounded like they
- 39:02Speaker 3: had some work to do, and I'd be pretty surprised,
- 39:06Speaker 3: kind of along with Tamarrow is saying, you know, you
- 39:07Speaker 3: get those two practices taken away. So maybe if if
- 39:10Speaker 3: they had the full OTA slate, they might take one away.
- 39:15Speaker 3: But I mean maybe.
- 39:17Speaker 4: I'm old school, but I think they need it, like
- 39:19Speaker 4: you know.
- 39:20Speaker 3: I like, I think it's one hundred three practices.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Get the team together. A month, you know, six weeks
- 39:26Speaker 4: before training camp opens is the last hurrah. Everybody's gonna
- 39:29Speaker 4: get a vacation. You get your break after this. You know,
- 39:32Speaker 4: this is this is a team that missed the playoffs
- 39:33Speaker 4: last year. There, you know, they got a new offensive coordinator.
- 39:36Speaker 4: They got a lot of young pieces that they would
- 39:37Speaker 4: love to, you know, assimilate on the defensive side of
- 39:40Speaker 4: the ball, it seems like most immediately. So I just
- 39:43Speaker 4: you know, from a team buildingue perspective, from getting everybody
- 39:46Speaker 4: ready for training camp, I think you got to keep
- 39:48Speaker 4: them in. I don't like, you know what, what what's
- 39:49Speaker 4: the media reaction going to be around here if they
- 39:51Speaker 4: cancel wins. I mean they're gonna get.
- 39:52Speaker 6: Killed for I don't care about that.
- 39:53Speaker 4: But you know, well, I think that the you know,
- 39:56Speaker 4: the talk show folks would would use as an opportunity
- 39:58Speaker 4: like all right, we're good, we're yeah, we're all set,
- 40:01Speaker 4: we're all set.
- 40:01Speaker 9: You will do that. But Bill doesn't care what them.
- 40:03Speaker 9: Oh yeah, in that in that regard like my shows, yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Yeah, fall shows, My shows will have it.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Fall shows will definitely that's I mean, they're.
- 40:10Speaker 9: Gonna do it anyway.
- 40:11Speaker 4: No, we're good, we're good.
- 40:12Speaker 8: If they practice on Wednesday, they're gonna say, obviously they
- 40:15Speaker 8: knew they were way further behind, and they were last year.
- 40:19Speaker 5: Right, That's just the nature of my show is Mike
- 40:21Speaker 5: eight five five, Pats five hundred is the ACE ticket
- 40:23Speaker 5: hot line. You can call the show just like you
- 40:26Speaker 5: would any unfiltered show. Let's go to Christian in LA.
- 40:30Speaker 5: What's up Christian?
- 40:32Speaker 14: Hey you guys, good morning and happy Monday.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Okay, yeah we can sorry, yep, okay.
- 40:38Speaker 14: Three three quick questions. One with the table of facts
- 40:42Speaker 14: that we have and the guys we have up front,
- 40:46Speaker 14: what do you guys think would be the most productive
- 40:50Speaker 14: running too?
- 40:51Speaker 15: You know why?
- 40:52Speaker 4: You know why?
- 40:53Speaker 7: Why?
- 40:54Speaker 14: But team uh one that we tried to year?
- 40:58Speaker 5: Yeah, whatever they did last year, don't do that.
- 41:01Speaker 6: Okay, I'll keep going.
- 41:06Speaker 14: What did you guys think it is mac Jones's best throw?
- 41:09Speaker 14: If he throw the well, well, what is it best?
- 41:13Speaker 14: And then question of the three? If he hops if
- 41:16Speaker 14: they come here, and I hope, oh god that he does,
- 41:19Speaker 14: don't let him out of the building. Get him here.
- 41:23Speaker 14: I agree. It was kind of weird after hearing the
- 41:25Speaker 14: fighters say that they are they're gonna see him to
- 41:28Speaker 14: announce it. Wouldn't that just motivate the Titan not to
- 41:31Speaker 14: let him out of the building if they want him?
- 41:33Speaker 14: But anyway, okay, sorry Hopkins. What's that line? Do you
- 41:40Speaker 14: guys think would make a successful dining in season?
- 41:44Speaker 6: Thank you guys?
- 41:45Speaker 14: Picking up the air?
- 41:46Speaker 6: Okay, thanks Christian.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Uh, just just for the record, we didn't the Patriots
- 41:53Speaker 3: didn't announce that DeAndre Hopkins is coming brough.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Is it right?
- 41:56Speaker 8: I feel I feel that is uh Ian rapperport I
- 42:01Speaker 8: Rapport reported it, but there was no formal team announcement
- 42:05Speaker 8: that DeAndre Hopkins is coming for a visit.
- 42:07Speaker 6: One of them correct, that was not what you wrote.
- 42:11Speaker 5: So Hopkins, uh stat line that you you say, Okay,
- 42:14Speaker 5: that's that's a good season.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I mean, I mean you got to be north of
- 42:17Speaker 4: eighty cashes. Yeah, it's no question.
- 42:19Speaker 9: Yeah, clear cut number one guy.
- 42:21Speaker 5: Does he become the first wide receiver for this team? Yes, yeah,
- 42:25Speaker 5: you know, like he will be the day if he signed.
- 42:28Speaker 5: But does he live up to those expectations? And if
- 42:31Speaker 5: he does, that's it, that's a success.
- 42:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a great question. I'm not as to what
- 42:36Speaker 4: running skime. I had no idea. I couldn't.
- 42:39Speaker 9: Jones is a great question too. I want to say,
- 42:41Speaker 9: maybe a slant, but I mean I.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Think anything, I don't know. I think a deeper throw,
- 42:49Speaker 3: touch under it, you know, like I think I think
- 42:51Speaker 3: he on so I don't think he drives the ball
- 42:55Speaker 3: down the field very well on a straight line.
- 42:57Speaker 4: And he does have good touch.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Is a pretty deep ball. He was able to get
- 43:00Speaker 3: air under it and drop it in the bucket, whether
- 43:03Speaker 3: it's like a deep cross or even just a go ball.
- 43:06Speaker 9: Yeah, more so than the goes. I like the crossers.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that's Henry, those couple of ones, you know, not
- 43:15Speaker 4: the gotta have some.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Air under it the same. That's a little bit of touch.
- 43:19Speaker 3: But the deep crosses is what he made a killing
- 43:21Speaker 3: on at Alabama. I mean, he just those fast receivers
- 43:24Speaker 3: just running in straight lines across the field and him
- 43:27Speaker 3: just throwing it those pillow he touch passes, you know,
- 43:30Speaker 3: drop it in the bucket style. I think that that's
- 43:32Speaker 3: probably his best throw.
- 43:34Speaker 5: But you know, one of the things that Mac has
- 43:37Speaker 5: had trouble with is that down the seam throw. He
- 43:41Speaker 5: doesn't always see where the coverage is coming from. And
- 43:44Speaker 5: in practice, you know, he's been picked off several times
- 43:47Speaker 5: with that particular throw. So he's gonna clean that up.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 8: Now, he did connect with as I just Peter Brady
- 43:54Speaker 8: voice there, he did connect with Hunter Henry.
- 43:57Speaker 9: He did on one. Now.
- 43:58Speaker 8: I do think think that was one that Fret's talking
- 44:01Speaker 8: about where the defense sort of was there and stopped.
- 44:06Speaker 8: I think it was Miles Bryant clearly was in position
- 44:08Speaker 8: to make a play on that and pulled up and
- 44:11Speaker 8: stopped to avoid contact. So I think that's something that
- 44:16Speaker 8: I know Bill O'Brien wants that. He wants that as
- 44:19Speaker 8: Evin I like to use your phrase in his bag.
- 44:22Speaker 8: He wants that as as part of his his attack.
- 44:27Speaker 8: So I'd be curious to see if they continue working
- 44:30Speaker 8: on that and if mac Jones improves on it.
- 44:32Speaker 3: That's really the vertical element of a Bill O'Brien offense.
- 44:36Speaker 3: You know, he's not a big isolation go ball type
- 44:39Speaker 3: of guy because it's a low efficiency throw. So a
- 44:42Speaker 3: big part of the vertical element of this offense is
- 44:45Speaker 3: going to be up the seams, and if they want
- 44:46Speaker 3: to hit some of that underneath stuff and layer it,
- 44:49Speaker 3: they're going to have to make the seam a threat. Otherwise,
- 44:51Speaker 3: why would any safety worry about the tight end up
- 44:54Speaker 3: the seam? And then he's going to be all over
- 44:56Speaker 3: the underneath throw, So.
- 44:58Speaker 5: You'll want to over in the middle of the field,
- 44:59Speaker 5: you know, whether your defense or offense. You know, that's
- 45:03Speaker 5: uh if you if you can, if you own that
- 45:06Speaker 5: middle of the field, you've got a lot of options,
- 45:09Speaker 5: A lot of options see Zappi and a lot of
- 45:11Speaker 5: options Mac Jones, But who's that nineteen?
- 45:15Speaker 7: Is?
- 45:15Speaker 9: Uh Tray Sorely?
- 45:17Speaker 4: Yeah, we're slowly easing into a little bit more football
- 45:22Speaker 4: esque activities.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Where's where's your guy? Dudes, Malik cunning.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Where is Malik Cunningham? That's he's over there with the
- 45:28Speaker 4: receiver guy. Yeah, I guess, but I'm gonna adopt him happily.
- 45:33Speaker 3: The hype train is screeching halt.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Yeah at the moment, how do you well? And Evan
- 45:43Speaker 4: I was thinking about that a little bit, and I
- 45:44Speaker 4: just I do wonder with his ankle, you know, if
- 45:47Speaker 4: some of these guys weren't practicing in OTAs with the
- 45:49Speaker 4: red jersey on, but they were, you know, maybe less
- 45:52Speaker 4: than one hundred percent. I'm not sure if Cody Davis
- 45:54Speaker 4: is still out here, but he's one guy that seemed
- 45:56Speaker 4: like he would warm up in ots and leave. So
- 45:58Speaker 4: I just I wonder if guy like Booty maybe.
- 46:00Speaker 8: But I thought Booty started the OTA normal and then
- 46:03Speaker 8: sort of went to a lesser prominent.
- 46:06Speaker 3: I'm beginning to have even less less than zero expectations
- 46:11Speaker 3: for for Booty doing anything for this team. I just
- 46:15Speaker 3: what are your based off everything we have to go
- 46:18Speaker 3: off of right now, which is not very much.
- 46:19Speaker 6: I admit the.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Second practice where nobody was here, there was no veteran
- 46:23Speaker 3: receivers here, Like, can you make one play that that
- 46:27Speaker 3: I can highlight and say, oh, you know, nice catch
- 46:30Speaker 3: by kash On Booty here or whatever. I mean, Roley
- 46:32Speaker 3: Webb is making place I could point.
- 46:34Speaker 6: To right.
- 46:37Speaker 4: The two.
- 46:37Speaker 7: What are your expectations for time Montgomery being.
- 46:41Speaker 10: Available this year?
- 46:43Speaker 4: I expect he's going to be available for every game. No,
- 46:45Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know available. But I thinks
- 46:48Speaker 4: if he's healthy, I think he's I think he's going
- 46:50Speaker 4: to be a key piece. I think they're gonna he's
- 46:51Speaker 4: gonna be a rotational piece that gets plenty of touches
- 46:54Speaker 4: this year. But if he stays healthy, that's the thing,
- 46:56Speaker 4: you know. I mean, I thought he looked really good
- 46:58Speaker 4: last year in camp and he did, you know, at
- 47:00Speaker 4: least just as part of to help Remandre not have
- 47:02Speaker 4: to do everything.
- 47:04Speaker 3: He's he's the best pass catching back that they have
- 47:07Speaker 3: currently on the team. I think, I mean, he's just reliable,
- 47:10Speaker 3: like he just is in the spot that he's supposed
- 47:12Speaker 3: to be in.
- 47:13Speaker 4: He's going right now.
- 47:14Speaker 9: It's a little bit.
- 47:15Speaker 3: I think he's more versatile too than like a Brandon
- 47:18Speaker 3: Bolden or somebody like that. You know, I hate compare
- 47:21Speaker 3: to James White, so I'm trying to think of other
- 47:24Speaker 3: guys to compare him to. But he's He's just seems
- 47:28Speaker 3: very steady, reliable, good hands in the right spots. I'm
- 47:30Speaker 3: not sure he's going to create very many explosive plays,
- 47:34Speaker 3: but I think he's gonna be that safety valve of
- 47:37Speaker 3: when the quarterback is looking to dump the pass off,
- 47:40Speaker 3: he's going to be in the spot they expect him
- 47:42Speaker 3: to be in.
- 47:43Speaker 5: Good look of Bill O'Brien conducting things out there, and
- 47:45Speaker 5: he was actually moving his arms like a conductor, and
- 47:50Speaker 5: so was Mac.
- 47:50Speaker 6: It was weird. I don't know what that means, but uh,
- 47:55Speaker 6: they looked like conductors, dudes.
- 47:57Speaker 7: He brought up a good point with like, you know,
- 47:59Speaker 7: he could be a help for Remondre Stevenson, especially with
- 48:01Speaker 7: Damian Harris gone. I'm just wondering, like why they would
- 48:04Speaker 7: sign a guy like James Jobinson when you already have
- 48:06Speaker 7: a guy who's kind of dealing coming out of an injury.
- 48:10Speaker 7: I was hoping to get you know, someone healthy and
- 48:12Speaker 7: explosive that can actually help Remandre, not someone who's going
- 48:15Speaker 7: to be coming off an injury and might be good
- 48:19Speaker 7: from last year.
- 48:20Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 48:20Speaker 3: I mean that's that's why you draft those guys, right,
- 48:23Speaker 3: is to have them take over. And I will say
- 48:25Speaker 3: Kevin Harris has looked okay.
- 48:27Speaker 9: A couple I agree, I think. I mean I've seen
- 48:30Speaker 9: a couple of little glimpses of him.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe a little bit more than Pierre Strong, Yeah,
- 48:35Speaker 3: at this point. But he had that little swing pass
- 48:37Speaker 3: on Friday. I mean, that's a house coming at you.
- 48:40Speaker 3: And when he gets up to top speed, and that
- 48:41Speaker 3: was his game and he may he did.
- 48:44Speaker 9: Evan's right. I mean for a bigger back, he had
- 48:46Speaker 9: some big plays at South Carolina.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he just carries guys.
- 48:49Speaker 9: You know, that's not exactly a conference that gives up
- 48:51Speaker 9: a lot of big, big runs.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Yeah, he's under the radar kind of guy. Evan. I'm
- 48:55Speaker 4: gonna see you up though, because I think he talked
- 48:58Speaker 4: about Booty kind of fallen, you know, based on limited
- 49:01Speaker 4: information from OTAs, but it seems like our boy Mapu
- 49:05Speaker 4: is continuing to get some attention at least, you know
- 49:08Speaker 4: what I noticed from some of the early reps. It
- 49:10Speaker 4: just it just seems like he continues to kind of
- 49:12Speaker 4: be around with the top dogs.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been a long time since I've been this
- 49:17Speaker 3: excited about a guy on the defensive side of the ball,
- 49:20Speaker 3: Like offense is usually more my thing, and defensively, it
- 49:23Speaker 3: just seems like he has the skills and the instincts
- 49:26Speaker 3: and the body type to give them exactly what they've
- 49:30Speaker 3: been missing at the second level of that defense. Somebody
- 49:32Speaker 3: that is a true sideline to sideline player. And maybe
- 49:36Speaker 3: he plays a little bit of role spying quarterbacks when
- 49:39Speaker 3: they do play those more mobile guys. But you can
- 49:41Speaker 3: just see the instincts, you know, the pick that he
- 49:43Speaker 3: had and practice on Friday where he just jumps the route.
- 49:47Speaker 3: You know, he just knows what he's looking at, and
- 49:48Speaker 3: he knows how to how to really explode out of
- 49:51Speaker 3: his stance and make plays. And I'm really looking forward
- 49:53Speaker 3: to seeing him hit some people once with pads come
- 49:56Speaker 3: on and once we get into week.
- 49:58Speaker 5: One, so as you can see, we had to turn
- 50:00Speaker 5: our cameras inward. The video portion of the show is over,
- 50:05Speaker 5: so now our listeners are more reliant on us than
- 50:09Speaker 5: ever we're now their eyes and ears about what we
- 50:12Speaker 5: see out there.
- 50:13Speaker 9: So now you're gonna get some seven on seven.
- 50:15Speaker 6: Yeah, so now we're gonna get the good stuff. We
- 50:17Speaker 6: see Mac closest to us seven on seven.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Jonathan Jones, Christian Gonzalez.
- 50:23Speaker 6: Yeah. How was Gonzales looked to you guys athletic? Yeah?
- 50:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but I mean nothing hasn't really made a you know,
- 50:30Speaker 4: a splash player or anything like that, Like you know,
- 50:32Speaker 4: Mapu had the interception, so nothing that really a wow moment.
- 50:36Speaker 4: But but you know, he comes as advertised. You knew
- 50:38Speaker 4: he was super athletic, and it looks like he can
- 50:41Speaker 4: run and drop his hips and change directions really quick.
- 50:43Speaker 6: And you know those keeping track Mac is one for one.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Oh there we go.
- 50:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Yeah. I wonder how much with Gonzalez right now, he's
- 50:51Speaker 3: just kind of trying to get a feel for everything
- 50:54Speaker 3: in the speed of the game and and what his
- 50:56Speaker 3: role is going to be and all that type of stuff,
- 50:58Speaker 3: because I see him out there almost thinking they're wrapped
- 51:02Speaker 3: through more than actually going out there and flying around.
- 51:05Speaker 3: So I wonder how much that we'll see that more
- 51:08Speaker 3: in training camp where he really starts to be able
- 51:10Speaker 3: to play free.
- 51:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel like right now he's definitely a sponge
- 51:14Speaker 7: more than anything. And I from all the press conferences
- 51:17Speaker 7: that we've listened to, just he's masked a lot of questions.
- 51:19Speaker 7: I think, you know, out out here on the field,
- 51:22Speaker 7: obviously in the classroom as well, and so I think
- 51:24Speaker 7: that to your point, Evan, that's probably exactly what you're seeing.
- 51:27Speaker 8: Yeah, we talked a little bit about Mapho with Evans's
- 51:30Speaker 8: newfound crush, and I thought that was interesting. Like the
- 51:34Speaker 8: first day that we got to watch when they did
- 51:36Speaker 8: this drill right here the seven on seven's that we're watching,
- 51:38Speaker 8: it was Juwan Bentley with Mapo as the linebackers. Since then,
- 51:43Speaker 8: we've seen more of Mapu as a safety and right
- 51:46Speaker 8: now it's Mac Wilson inside with with Bentley. You haven't
- 51:50Speaker 8: seen a ton of Wilson in the last year. During
- 51:53Speaker 8: the season we did, we saw him in that kind
- 51:55Speaker 8: of a role. So I wonder if there's still singing
- 52:00Speaker 8: matching with or if they're deciding that we like him
- 52:03Speaker 8: on the back end more. When Evan talked about that,
- 52:05Speaker 8: like he made that play he made in the passing
- 52:08Speaker 8: game on Friday that was as a safety that he
- 52:10Speaker 8: jumped at and slanted and took it for would be touchdown.
- 52:14Speaker 9: So yeah, I think this is two ways. Evan. You'd
- 52:17Speaker 9: rather see him closer to the line, I assume absolutely, Yeah.
- 52:19Speaker 3: I want I want to see him playing in the
- 52:21Speaker 3: box like the Bills, you know, use a Matt Milano
- 52:24Speaker 3: or you've seen Dion Jones in the past, Like that's
- 52:27Speaker 3: what the defense is missing.
- 52:28Speaker 4: They got they got.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Safeties that that fit that that archetype up the wazoo.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I mean, Kyle Duggar, Adrian Phillips, Jabreal Pepper's, Joshua Bledz, Like,
- 52:36Speaker 3: how many more of these, like two hundred and twenty
- 52:39Speaker 3: two hundred and fifteen pounds safeties do you really need?
- 52:41Speaker 3: So I would much rather see him play at linebacker
- 52:44Speaker 3: next to Bentley. You got the hammer in Bentley. Now
- 52:47Speaker 3: you got a guy that can go sideline to sideline
- 52:49Speaker 3: and chase people down. It just seems like they would
- 52:51Speaker 3: fit really well next to each other.
- 52:53Speaker 7: Well, Evan, and I know you say, like, how many
- 52:55Speaker 7: do they really need? But you've seen how fast these
- 52:57Speaker 7: guys drop like flies, like especially you know, halfway through.
- 53:00Speaker 10: The season, So it's kind of nice to have a
- 53:02Speaker 10: guy who if you need him to he can fill
- 53:05Speaker 10: in those gaps.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and I wonder if that's sort of where we're
- 53:07Speaker 3: at right now, is just having him learn both positions
- 53:10Speaker 3: so that in case he does have to fill in
- 53:12Speaker 3: for somebody at safety, then he has that ability to
- 53:15Speaker 3: do it. I just I think defensively they get so
- 53:18Speaker 3: much better if he's an impact player at the second
- 53:21Speaker 3: level and playing in the box. Then on the back end,
- 53:24Speaker 3: I you just look at guys like Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Dak.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I mean, their their schedule is filled Patrick Mahomes with
- 53:32Speaker 3: with guys that can move and that are athletic. And
- 53:34Speaker 3: if they're gonna be able to put up a fight
- 53:36Speaker 3: defensively against those guys, they're gonna need somebody like Mapu
- 53:40Speaker 3: to step in and shadow some of these quarterbacks.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Well, we're about to get a look here because it
- 53:43Speaker 4: looks like Maphu might be going in a linebacker. Perhaps
- 53:46Speaker 4: you thank you seven seven periods, so maybe maybe don't.
- 53:53Speaker 9: Don't go any further back, Like, yeah, he's inside, He's
- 53:58Speaker 9: going to be inside with Tavai Yep, yep.
- 54:01Speaker 4: This I like so note chewed on in these drills.
- 54:04Speaker 6: Ailey Zappi the quarterback.
- 54:09Speaker 4: Interesting to have Pierre Strong and Time Montgomery out there
- 54:14Speaker 4: pony package unless you count, unless you count Time Montgomery's receiver,
- 54:18Speaker 4: and then it's just regular.
- 54:21Speaker 6: Bill Belichick taking an interest in this particular drill.
- 54:24Speaker 9: Yeah, Montgomery's definitely a receiver in this drill.
- 54:28Speaker 3: I don't have any other receivers playing in the slot.
- 54:30Speaker 4: I mean, I wonder too though, how much I mean,
- 54:32Speaker 4: I you know, my big drum I beat a lot
- 54:34Speaker 4: this off season, was trying to get quicker, get some
- 54:37Speaker 4: inside quickness for the offense, and I wonder if that's
- 54:40Speaker 4: kind of a way to try to manufacture some with
- 54:42Speaker 4: Montgomery in that spot. It seems kind of like that
- 54:44Speaker 4: that kind of player.
- 54:47Speaker 3: That play by Mapu there though, is exactly why I
- 54:49Speaker 3: want him at linebacker. They just dump it off to
- 54:53Speaker 3: first in the in the flat, and he's got that
- 54:57Speaker 3: ability to play that that underneath zone and on those
- 55:00Speaker 3: and those in the past sometimes for the Patriots that's
- 55:03Speaker 3: like seven eighty yards. If that becomes three yards, you know,
- 55:06Speaker 3: that's a very big difference when you're talking about early
- 55:09Speaker 3: down defense.
- 55:09Speaker 4: Is can we look at Mac right now like that?
- 55:11Speaker 4: Like this is what I think Greg Gadar talks about
- 55:13Speaker 4: a little bit where you know, he kind of just
- 55:15Speaker 4: just standing by himself with the twenty five yard line.
- 55:17Speaker 4: Looks like he's going through some stuff. I mean, he's anything,
- 55:20Speaker 4: nothing wrong with it. I just you know, it's just
- 55:22Speaker 4: interesting the way he's kind of going about things, standing
- 55:26Speaker 4: by himself. But he's definitely doing something yeah, oh yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 4: some type of progression mental repping right now for sure.
- 55:31Speaker 4: I mean I wonder if he's getting the call he's
- 55:33Speaker 4: here in the call into ZAPPI, yeah, and then he's imagining,
- 55:36Speaker 4: you know, what he's doing, but he's not even watching
- 55:39Speaker 4: them go, right. But it's just interesting.
- 55:41Speaker 3: It's an interesting question to ask him, like we're talking
- 55:43Speaker 3: to him after practice today. Yeah, not to make it
- 55:46Speaker 3: into what what Paul's shows makes it into, but just
- 55:48Speaker 3: what are you like, clearly he's doing something mentally going
- 55:52Speaker 3: through the rep right now, So what is it?
- 55:54Speaker 7: What?
- 55:54Speaker 6: What are you doing?
- 55:55Speaker 7: You know?
- 55:55Speaker 3: I think that would help people understand why.
- 55:58Speaker 4: I'm just trying to watch him in conjunction with that,
- 56:00Speaker 4: He's doesn't really seem like they're on the same schedule though,
- 56:02Speaker 4: So I always like to.
- 56:03Speaker 9: Watch some of the personnel groupings and is that thirty
- 56:07Speaker 9: nine Rodney.
- 56:08Speaker 8: Randall's Yeah, he made a play about two plays earlier
- 56:14Speaker 8: than that.
- 56:15Speaker 9: But I just find it interesting. You know, sometimes you
- 56:17Speaker 9: like to pick out the guy, you know what.
- 56:19Speaker 8: It's like one of these things doesn't belong and one
- 56:21Speaker 8: of these things surprises you a little bit. I don't
- 56:22Speaker 8: know a whole lot about Rodney Randall. Yeah, and you
- 56:25Speaker 8: see him out there with the second group that you know,
- 56:27Speaker 8: includes some guys, you know, like Jack Jones and Jabrill Peppers.
- 56:32Speaker 8: So it's not like he's out there with all the
- 56:34Speaker 8: opportunity guys. It's guys that are going to be playing
- 56:37Speaker 8: a role in the defense. Yeah, maybe they're giving him
- 56:39Speaker 8: a little bit of a look here, all.
- 56:41Speaker 6: Right, talking to downstairs, do we have time for a
- 56:44Speaker 6: break here?
- 56:45Speaker 9: Do we have a wonderful friend?
- 56:48Speaker 6: Okay, why don't we take a break while they do
- 56:51Speaker 6: some special teams work and we'll be right back after that.

- 1:00:20Speaker 9: Live from Patriots Mini Camp.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: We're back here live high above the Patriots practice field
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: at mandatory Mini Camp.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: And while we're away.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: They got back at the seven and seven and Mac
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: had a nice play to one Hunter Henry outfield.
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: Yeah, that's exactly the past that Evan was talking about
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: that he felt just the best ball that Mac throws,
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: and I would agree when he has that layer and
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: he's able to put a little touch on it, I
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: think that's generally a pass that he throws with a
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: lot of accuracy. And that was kind of a deep,
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: deep cross out towards the sideline over the linebackers in
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: front of the defensive backs.
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: Would have been a nice game. And then he just
- 1:01:03Speaker 9: followed it up with one with a little more zip
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: on it.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Yeah, to was that one for ex No, that was Kasiki.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: So they just ran like the levels, like Hunter Henry
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: at the first level, Kasiki at the second level, which
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: I can tell you in twenty eleven was the play
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: they probably ran a thousand times with you know who
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: in Gronk. So that that's a Bill O'Brien, I let
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: you say those names. That's a that's a Bill O'Brien's
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: special right there. So these tight ends up all we
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: were talking about it in the break, I mean, how
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: many passes are these? Yeah, Like they're gonna catch a
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: ton of passes.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: These two guys and Mapo back at safety now they're
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: the little cover two looks. Yeah, I'll over the place. Well,
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: I mean, is it I don't know. I mean White
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: has we talked about key On White, you know, getting
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: some looks at outside linebacker, but he's kind of stayed
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: in one spot. I mean, Mapu is the only guy
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: that has been taking reps a multiple different I think.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: That's the part that's so encouraging because you don't want
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: to get you over zealous about the actual you know,
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: results on the field at this time of year. But
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: they clearly trust him to start doing all these different
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: things and do use him in different spots, and that
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: tells you that they have a plan to play him
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: quite a bit. You know, if they're they're thinking of rookie,
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: bring him along slowly, red shirt, that type of thing,
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: then he's not gonna be out there with all these reps.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: Yea, yeah, Well it's I mean it's they Bill said
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: last week taking you know, trying to drink from the
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: fire hose. I mean I guess he's uh, he's able
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: to do it.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: I mean more like a garden host.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: Yeah, it is very interesting though.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: Once again, you know, now Zappi's back in and Ma's
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: way behind the play with his back to it, just
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: going through those reps. So it's you know, you should
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: ask him like what are you doing? Yeah, at that
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: point I saw Bill O'Brien talking to him when he
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: came off the field, going over some things.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: If Jack Jack Jones just stays off Twitter, he's gonna
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: he's gonna be a player for this team this year.
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: I think there are a few like that.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, after what happened down in the stretch
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: last year, I just slog off, slog off.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It's like one of those guys who just needs a
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: camp where you're out there every day. You know, there's
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: no issues. It's just consistency. You know, so many of
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: those guys, it's usually the rookies. But for him, the
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: way that year ended, just to come out and be
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: out here consistently, I think that's that can put the
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: last year behind him.
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: See, you can you can email this show at web
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: radio at pages dot com. Jacket and Arbor says, for
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: the love of God, after going through an entire last
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: year without reliable production at left tackle, now Trent Brown.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: Is injured and it's only mini camp.
- 1:03:49Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: We don't know if we just know he's not here,
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: but we don't know why.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: So but there's got to be a reason because this
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: is mandatory mini camp. So there's a story there somewhere,
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: whatever it is, if it's excused or not excused, whether
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: he's hurt, whether he wants more money, oh nice, throw that.
- 1:04:09Speaker 6: Look, there has to be a reason, and it could
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: be a good reason, you know.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's funny we talk about Booty not
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: doing anything. I mean, Malie cunning him, ed Lee, these guys,
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: these guys are doing more.
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: This is my point, Like, I haven't seen anything from
- 1:04:22Speaker 8: the two sixth round picks, but I've seen those guys
- 1:04:24Speaker 8: cunning him a little bit less.
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: But ed Lee a little bit rolly web a little bit.
- 1:04:29Speaker 9: They show up every once in Yeah.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Yeah, just to be fair, that was a terrific read
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: by Bailey's Abbey the spot and you know, they they
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: covered the underneath with the underneath shallow, and he just
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: knew that that was going to be there. He let
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: it go maybe a step or two early, and hit
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: him right on the numbers. I mean that those are
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: the types of throws that that Bailey does make I
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: think a little bit more consistently, those anticipatory throws where
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: he trusted a little bit more. He just to notice
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: that I a little bit from him. I was say
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: more than Max sometimes.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: Well, that's that's a big that's a big thing. If
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: you know, you trust, trust the play, trust the receiver,
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: you have.
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: To do that. In the NFL. The windows are.
- 1:05:12Speaker 10: Devon making an appearance.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think James White's here, so I wouldn't be
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: surprised if Devins also.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Yeah, there is no wait, that's that's Jason. That's Jason.
- 1:05:21Speaker 10: I can't see. Do you have binoculars on the defense?
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: Walking right here on the back line of the end
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Zone's Jason mccordy.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: You can tell them tell that is our retirement house.
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: Start.
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: That's Devin.
- 1:05:34Speaker 10: That's definitely Devon.
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: Also, when he came out to practice last time, I
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: was like, excuse me, sir, you don't have.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: You can't be here, you can't be here away I
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: gotta say, this is my my thing. I bet you
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: mccordy right now is probably still pretty happy he's not
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: doing this. But I think when late July rolls around,
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: and those early training camp practices.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: I think that's when, Well, when you retired from Everett,
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: did you still go back to practices and stuff?
- 1:05:59Speaker 9: Nope, him in back sense, not even for the statue
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: or the induction or no.
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: No, Yeah, I figured Paul wouldn't be back.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: He can't. He gets mobbed. I mean, you know, it's
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: like celebrity.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: He doesn't want to be a distraction after the young
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: kid the quarterbacks.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like top five Everett celebrities. Brian Kelly.
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: That is really not true.
- 1:06:21Speaker 8: Also, I think I've said this on the podcast in
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: the past. It's not like Everett Sharon and there's only
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: or four people.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: It was unnecessarily but in.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: All seriousness, Paul, we've been going to the Blossies a
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: lot and really yeah, oh yeah all the time. It's
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: still good of course.
- 1:06:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: And there's a wall of fame of Wiggie's up there
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: and I'm I'm like.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: No, what do you mean, No, got not even like
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: he ate the nineties. We got to get your picture
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: up on that wall.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: We got some wind going this punt.
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: The punt they're in special teams right now, and uh,
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: punt got blown right off the field.
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: Yeah, that was not any good kick by Colas Weightman.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Yeah, got hung up.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: I have to ask Alex what the heck time was
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: on that one?
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: And Billow and Joe Judge Is continues to be very
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: vocal with special teams, and it seems that at least
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: this part of the uh ot as, that's been his role.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: I'm gonna tell you if I was if I was
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: an idiot who didn't never watch this team just set,
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: I would say he's the special team's coach. And Cam
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: cortus As.
- 1:07:30Speaker 9: Somehow came up with a promotion.
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: So Fred, Yes, a report came out that it Lawrence
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: Guy is allegedly not here because of the baby.
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: Oh okay, all right, that's what I told everyone.
- 1:07:41Speaker 10: It's believed to be contract related allegedly.
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: Wait wait, wait, you say it's not because not because
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: of the baby.
- 1:07:48Speaker 10: Contract contract related?
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: Baby has a contract.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: So he just signed in the gap.
- 1:07:55Speaker 9: What is that the all time record? Is that the
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: all time record for a whole.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: You want to he's for two gaping on the defensive line.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: I mean, and and also put it in context though,
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: I mean what he's I think he signed a four
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: year deal two years ago. I mean, he just signed
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: a lng tero. I mean, it wasn't a lot of money,
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: but but how do you renegotiate at this point when
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: you're kind of what is he like thirty two.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: Thirty three?
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: Anything getting overpaid?
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:08:19Speaker 10: I am just reading the court.
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe hood that another guy that came from Maybe
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: he sees with another guy who two gaps are living
- 1:08:28Speaker 8: gone last year.
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: As long as it wasn't like, you know, patriots.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: We should mention the one guy that has was sort
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: of limited and the OTAs and Marcus Jones is out
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: here and no red jersey or anything like that. So
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: I've seen him quite a bit already. He's at the
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: returners right now, but I I can't believe.
- 1:08:49Speaker 9: That has he handled one yet.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: I haven't seen him take one because.
- 1:08:52Speaker 9: He was with the group, but I haven't seen him
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: take a rep yet.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: No, that is that is true?
- 1:08:57Speaker 8: Wow, And we haven't seen Barringer, who didn't take part
- 1:09:01Speaker 8: in the last couple of OTAs that we got a
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: chance to see.
- 1:09:03Speaker 9: It's been all weaitment in this special teams. I wonder
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: bearing your dealing with something. I saw him in a yes,
- 1:09:09Speaker 9: but he's here, he's right there. But I haven't seen
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: him kick yet.
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's frustrating because you just don't know the story
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: behind each guy, why they may not be practicing or.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: I got to imagine Mike Whees is going to get
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: the Trump Brown news too, because they.
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: He usually Yeah, I mean listen, speculation time, right, Yep,
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: I'm joking around. But last year round training camp time,
- 1:09:37Speaker 8: Devon gotcha right, and an extension that we all sit there,
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: sat there and said, Wow, that's a lot of money
- 1:09:42Speaker 8: for a run stuffing defensive lineman. And meanwhile, Lawrence Guy
- 1:09:47Speaker 8: was a couple of years in to his run stuffing
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: defensive lineman contract that wasn't I'm not telling you that's
- 1:09:53Speaker 8: why he's not here. But if that's what Mike is
- 1:09:56Speaker 8: alluding to, I think it's not hard to connect those dogs.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: He's doing three million dollars in cash this year, which
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: if you're a starting defensive lineman in the NFL's.
- 1:10:07Speaker 9: That's like that's good money.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: It's I don't know. I mean, I have a tough
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: time with that because they have younger guys Dietrich Wise,
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: Kean White, Christian Barmore that if Lawrence Guy doesn't want
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: to be here, then you know, past the Torch and
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I great player, you know, twenty tens, all decade, Patriots
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: team nominee, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean I I I will admit, I think,
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: you know, Lawrence guy is near the end. But I
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: do still think he's got you know, some good football
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: from what they need from him. I just don't see
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: the guy though, to replace him, Like I think you're
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: kind of asking Sam Roberts, has he got anything in
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: year two? Is Paul Davis anything?
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: You know? I don't know. I mean, guy was okay
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: last year, but was he that much better than.
- 1:10:54Speaker 7: That?
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: Much better?
- 1:10:55Speaker 7: No?
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: No, No, I mean I would I'd probably say Gotch
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: I was, but those but those two not much.
- 1:11:00Speaker 8: But yeah, those two guys, I do think their run
- 1:11:03Speaker 8: defense was improved last year. I know the quarterbacks killed them,
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: but I mean conventional run defense. Yeah, I thought they
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: were better last year than they had been in recent years.
- 1:11:12Speaker 8: And to Mike's point, those are the two guys that
- 1:11:15Speaker 8: do what I would add Carl Davis to that mix
- 1:11:17Speaker 8: when they when they really go to a run, you know,
- 1:11:19Speaker 8: in an obvious run situation, those three guys are out
- 1:11:21Speaker 8: there to get Yeah, And I don't really think of
- 1:11:24Speaker 8: the others as that kind of player.
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: They're a good traditional run defense. Like if you just
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: line up and try to run, run the running back
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: through the hole against them, like they can make stops.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: But I'm just okay with them passing the torch to
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: that spot. If he's going to hold out and make
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: a thing about his contract.
- 1:11:43Speaker 8: I don't think those guys are worth much more than that.
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: I Like I said at the time last year, I
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: thought they gave too much to God Show.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: Yeah, so have you got to love this? This is
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: a little front work and.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: I didn't know how much I could talk about it.
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: Well, moor Mapu at linebacker, specifically in a bass run stopping.
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: So they're doing.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Inside six, which is just the front seven versus the
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: offensive line and tight ends. Can I say, who's that
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: quarterback or is that I wouldn't.
- 1:12:11Speaker 9: I wouldn't. I would just call it like a good
- 1:12:14Speaker 9: old fashioned nine on seven drill and move along.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: They're they're they're doing some some stuff.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: Yeah, but is this looks for that? This is kind
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: of this maybe maybe we can do it this way.
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: That's okay.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: Defense.
- 1:12:27Speaker 8: One of the things that has given the Patriots defense
- 1:12:29Speaker 8: and problems in recent years has been you know, the
- 1:12:31Speaker 8: Lamar Jackson you know, uh, you know that that that
- 1:12:34Speaker 8: kind of quarterback designed quarterback runs read options whatever you
- 1:12:38Speaker 8: want to call them, however you want to define them,
- 1:12:41Speaker 8: r p o's, uh, you know, regular read options whatever.
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: I think they're going over some of that stuff right now,
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: defensively using Evans boy mop who as potentially a guy
- 1:12:51Speaker 8: with speed and physicality to play, you know, against the
- 1:12:55Speaker 8: scheme like that.
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: Is that dancing around it?
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: No?
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: I think that's perfect.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: Can we say that there's another rookie that's involved maybe
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: at a.
- 1:13:03Speaker 8: Okay, so maybe some people might have thought one of
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: the undrafted rookie free agents that they signed would.
- 1:13:08Speaker 9: Be good in the scout kind of a situation for
- 1:13:10Speaker 9: that maybe something like that. He might he might rhyme
- 1:13:14Speaker 9: with Sunningham.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: To me, this is this is why Sunningham is here.
- 1:13:21Speaker 9: Yeah, well that's what I'm saying.
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: A lot of people thought that Malie Cunningham would be
- 1:13:24Speaker 8: a guy that could be valuable in a scouting sense.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: And all I gotta say is all over this right now,
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: and I am enjoying it. But that that's the whole
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: thing about like the wide receiver thing with with Sunningham
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: that I always.
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: Am just like, let's let's like that one. Let's cool it.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: I'm just trying to let's let's cool it with all
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: the wide receiver stuff. But this, this actually could add
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: some inherent value to having him here on the practice
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: squad because he he clearly is a natural at this
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: sort of thing. And you also wonder if it gets
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: to it and we're in season and their red zone
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: rushing and short yard rushing stinks, Yeah, like, does this
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: become a roster spot and a little package like that
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: sort of thing. I think it's also sat I think so.
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: Too, Especially when we were going through the draft process,
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: I was really highlighting dtr and saying like he could
- 1:14:18Speaker 7: be a good fit because you already have two guys
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: that are kind of the same and at the quarterback position,
- 1:14:21Speaker 7: so it'd be great to have someone else with a
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: different skill set that can bring something else to the team.
- 1:14:26Speaker 10: So Sunningham fits the bill for that.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: I just I think defensively for me, and I'm sure
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: out to seeing them practice this kind of stuff right now,
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: and to have Mapu in the middle of it, it's
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: it's it's checking my boxes. Oh yeah, this is like
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: they need to work on this stuff. It's kind of
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: like it's kind of one of these moments where you
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: feel like, right, this is kind of coming together like
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: we thought it might and you know, hopefully continue.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean this is that That's the whole thing
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: is you often wondered not to like, you know, be
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: a jerk about it, but it's like how much do
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: you practice against this? And you know, is it something
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: that you do need to invest the squad spot on
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: the Malie Cunningham to to be able to practice a
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: little against it a little.
- 1:15:04Speaker 7: Bit more and early they were aware with their weaknesses last.
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: Year, and they're also doing a little bit will be fair,
- 1:15:09Speaker 8: they're doing a little with mcsli as well.
- 1:15:11Speaker 9: And he is more of a runner.
- 1:15:14Speaker 8: At Penn State, he was just kind of a college
- 1:15:16Speaker 8: football player, not necessarily a polished quarterback. He was more
- 1:15:20Speaker 8: of a runner, you know, kind of a gamer, do
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: what it takes to to get the job done. So
- 1:15:25Speaker 8: maybe they're kind of looking at both of those guys,
- 1:15:28Speaker 8: you know, and seeing who you know, what kind of
- 1:15:30Speaker 8: looks they get from from either one of them. But
- 1:15:32Speaker 8: you know, defense, you know the seven they have on defense,
- 1:15:36Speaker 8: Judon is out there as part of this, right, So
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: this is not you know, you know Tavais is a
- 1:15:41Speaker 8: physical linebacker. He's out there as part of it. Daniel
- 1:15:45Speaker 8: Aqualley up front, think Barmore was out there. So this
- 1:15:48Speaker 8: is not guys that don't project to make the roster now, this.
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: Is to give the defense looks correct and mentioned it too,
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: Chris Board.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: Chris Board is over there, so you know, I know
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: we all talked about him in special teams, but I
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: do think he's a guy that you know, does have
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: some maybe uh possibility to play a little linebacker if
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: you need him to.
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: Alex Writes in Suffield, Connecticut. Quick question, have we seen
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: City saw play a tackle at all? And what have
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: we seen from the Mario Douglas.
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: I expect him to take over from Marcus Jones on offense,
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: but curious if we are seeing anything more.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: Yeah, City South or City, Sue, I think is our city?
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: So City?
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: So it's so now we like do So City, so
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: that should be easy for me. Yeah, we've seen him.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: We've seen him at tackle, We've seen him at a
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: right tackle, and not much out of Douglas. I mean
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: he was active. I think maybe the first day caught
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: a couple of passes.
- 1:16:38Speaker 8: We actually have him at U but that's it. No,
- 1:16:40Speaker 8: we have him at tackle right now. Yeah, he's at
- 1:16:43Speaker 8: tackle right now as we speak.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: This is uh, twos versus ones. It seems like maybe
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: Pig in a tackle setting.
- 1:16:53Speaker 9: Nice Freddy. As far as Douglas, we have not seen
- 1:16:56Speaker 9: a whole lot as a as a Max seem to
- 1:16:59Speaker 9: Hunter Barkley.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: But Doug writes in after watching what you have been
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: able to see in these practices, does the panel feel
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: better or worse about the overall possibilities of the team
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: making a playoff run way too early?
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: I would say incredibly irrelevant.
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: The only thing I would say as far as that
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: goes is I just I feel a little bit more
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: encouraged about the building blocks on defense, especially some of
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: the rookie guys that just seem like they're getting a
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: little bit involved. I still feel exactly the same about
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: the offense. I think it will be well coordinated. I
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: think they know what they're doing with Bill O'Brien. What's
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: the ceiling? Is it good enough? Can they really you know,
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: move the ball against good defenses and put up big
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: scores and points in crunch time? I have no idea
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: on that, but I like some of the pieces they've
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: added on defense, and I'm intrigued.
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: According to Sam, who says, according to Mark Daniels, Trent
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: Brown missed a flight and that's why he's not here.
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: Oh boy, that's not good either. That's not uh look
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: looked upon kindly.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: No, you got one job.
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: You got one mandatory three days of practice. It's certainly
- 1:18:09Speaker 8: not an excuse. But I'm also very dubious of that.
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: Oh that sounds like it came directly from an agent.
- 1:18:15Speaker 7: It says he's not holding out. His flight got canceled
- 1:18:19Speaker 7: due to a hailstorm, per.
- 1:18:21Speaker 9: Source otherwise known as Trent Brown's agent.
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Well, you know, the answer to that from the team
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: would be, why did you pick a flight that was
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: so close to practice?
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: You should have Yeah, that's what's well regardless, even if
- 1:18:33Speaker 8: it is the absolute truth, right, it's no excuse.
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: Nope, nope.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Doing a lot of under center play action right now
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: in this portion of this practice not not full speed,
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: but it is still interesting to see some of the
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: schemes that they're they're building in off of the play action.
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: So, Freddie, one of the things you you asked us
- 1:18:56Speaker 8: right at the start of the show, is some of
- 1:18:57Speaker 8: the things we're hoping to see. Yeah, Evan just touched
- 1:19:00Speaker 8: on something I'm hoping to see at least some portion
- 1:19:04Speaker 8: of this three day camp at more of a high level,
- 1:19:08Speaker 8: like high speed, even though they're not in pads and
- 1:19:11Speaker 8: anything like that. I'd like to see it run a
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: little bit more to the tempo that we'll see it
- 1:19:16Speaker 8: for real, Yeah, just to get a better idea, you know,
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: with the defensive backs sort of playing it honest, not
- 1:19:22Speaker 8: jumping routes and knowing what's happening, and the offense not
- 1:19:27Speaker 8: being forced to catch the ball because that's what's supposed
- 1:19:29Speaker 8: to happen. I'd like to see a little bit more,
- 1:19:31Speaker 8: but I'm not holding my breath for that.
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: Would you be surprised if what they're doing with Cunningham,
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: I'll just say it right now, is the Eagles offense.
- 1:19:43Speaker 9: Yeah, like probably part of it.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean it's a lot of the schedule.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: You know, they're going to play a lot of these
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: these guys that can move around in these mobile quarterbacks,
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: so they're everywhere.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: Now. I wonder, Paul, if this is almost set the
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: stage kind of thing for are they going to do
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: like a real twenty four hours after this and then tomorrow.
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: All right, we kind of got things ready, set the
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: stage on Monday. Now Tuesday we kind of get after
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: and then maybe Wednesday they given off. I don't know.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: I hope, I hope you're right, it'd be nice.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: I just love like what I've seen so far of
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: some of the different periods that they've had throughout OTAs.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: In mini camp, you can tell like the foundational building
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: blocks of like what are their core sort of concepts
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: and informations and things, and that is just so not
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: the case last year and this year. I can pick out, okay,
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: like this is what they're working on now is one
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: foundational element, and then in the seven on seven they're
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: they're kind of running what their third down elements and
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: their passing game elements are going to be.
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: We've got eleven and eleven going, which.
- 1:20:44Speaker 7: Is everything that we've heard in the press conference. This
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: is normal, Like there's a good flow of communication. Everyone's
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: on the same page.
- 1:20:51Speaker 10: We know what we're doing.
- 1:20:52Speaker 7: Like it's those phrases that have been used by everybody
- 1:20:55Speaker 7: that you see what happens when you have an actual
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: guy who knows offense running the things.
- 1:21:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I kind of agree with fred on that. I
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: think we saw things last spring, they just didn't do
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: them effectively. You know, in the spring they it looked
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: like this, only different plays, but then when they got
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: to training camp and the regular season, they they didn't
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: they didn't have those at the execution of that foundation.
- 1:21:19Speaker 8: But you know what Evan's talking about now, like you
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: see them. You know in one of these the period
- 1:21:23Speaker 8: going on now with Mac Jones leading the offense, they're
- 1:21:26Speaker 8: trying some misdirection stuff, a lot of screens, a lot
- 1:21:29Speaker 8: of delays, you know, things like that that we hadn't
- 1:21:31Speaker 8: really seen a ton of in those OTAs.
- 1:21:34Speaker 9: Just another how did you put it?
- 1:21:35Speaker 7: That?
- 1:21:35Speaker 9: Just another fundamental building blocks foundation. Yea.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: What they're doing right now is straight McDaniels like this
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: is you know, right out of like the old Patriots,
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: like twenty twenty one playbook of under center, hitting tight ends,
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: you know, working across the field out behind the linebackers.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: And that's refreshing because last year they were trying to
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: run play action to hit the deep the deep ball.
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: They were trying to get single high structures and then
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: throw it down the field off play action. This is
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: back to getting to attacking the second level of the defense,
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: the intermediate part of the field, off of all these fakes,
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: which I think is where it fits the quarterback, it
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: fits the personnel, Like, that's where I really feel like
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: they want to be.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: Yeah, they finished that with a little little screen pass.
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: Was that that caught that Remandre? Okay?
- 1:22:26Speaker 9: For a loss of four?
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: Do you think so?
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: Oh yeah, there was a five blue shirts in the
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: back of the negative.
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: No, but this is my point, Like I want to
- 1:22:34Speaker 8: see them running these for real, like clearly, clearly the
- 1:22:36Speaker 8: defense knew exactly what was happening there, and they completely
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: blew the play up.
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: It's like we got a special teams period cover.
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:22:45Speaker 8: I mean they can't really get blocked now, you know, none,
- 1:22:49Speaker 8: that's more of a laments than a negative. I'd rather
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: see it kind of run live and get a better
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: gauge of what would happen.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: A little balls.
- 1:23:00Speaker 9: Curity action, you know, Okay, right, important, gotta do it
- 1:23:05Speaker 9: all some quick little hooks and then they cut up
- 1:23:07Speaker 9: against two defenders.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: Yeah. So this is a Georgia drill. To call it
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: the hook drill, and you can see like the defender
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: coming from behind. This is it really simulates exactly what
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: you're gonna have in the open field. I think this
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: is the best ball security drill in in football, and
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: it's it's everybody does it now. You know, this is
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: something that's really popular now. And I watched the Kirby
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: Smart breaking it down and coaching Arcas Jones loses one.
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: Oh he's doing push ups.
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: As a result.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: Yeah, this drill is is such a staple. They do
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: it all the time.
- 1:23:52Speaker 8: And I think it's interesting that the Patriots have their
- 1:23:54Speaker 8: offensive end defensive players both catch the passes.
- 1:23:58Speaker 9: You know, it's like you know, you pick pick, you
- 1:24:00Speaker 9: picked off a pass and you're in traffic. You know,
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: what are you doing?
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: How many times did they have a sure pick that
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: was dropped last year? At least a couple of times.
- 1:24:07Speaker 8: Well, I'm talking about more in terms of the ball
- 1:24:09Speaker 8: security element of it, like Evan was talking about with
- 1:24:12Speaker 8: the two defenders coming out of the hook and they're
- 1:24:15Speaker 8: trying to strip the ball away, you know, like Tory
- 1:24:17Speaker 8: Brown against Marlon McCree.
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: I mean when you think about it, when you're on
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: the open field, like you're gonna you're probably gonna lose
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: the football, because you get caught from behind, You're not
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: gonna like a guy coming straight on onto you that
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: you see coming is probably not gonna dislodge the ball.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: It's gonna be somebody that peanut punches in from behind.
- 1:24:38Speaker 9: That's a great legacy that he has. Huh, everybody.
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: Everybody calls it a peanut peanut punch.
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: You see it so much now though, like even in
- 1:24:49Speaker 8: high school. The kids do it now, and you hold
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: your breath on any big play when there's a defender
- 1:24:55Speaker 8: coming from behind.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: So Barons you're not only has the glasses, he's also
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: got a tinted face shield. He's he's what is he
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: trying to do to getting all I'm getting all excited
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: about this punter.
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: He hasn't even punted the ball.
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: I don't need him to put glasses.
- 1:25:10Speaker 7: And and.
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: Now that was negative. I'll tell you what I'm being negative.
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: Gold In terms of weather, pretty good day for practice
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: if you're a player. It's not too hot, overcast right now,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: so you don't get that sun beating down on you.
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: Not great for Corlis weightman, though his punts have been.
- 1:25:35Speaker 9: Yep that we had some more punting work now we
- 1:25:38Speaker 9: touched on it.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: Earlier, But what is your genuine opinions on Joe Judge?
- 1:25:42Speaker 9: He's basically the special coordinated That's why I think you
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: got promoted.
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: He looks exactly like he looked before he left. Ye,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: like right in the middle of it.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: I know he's such a has such a negative connotation
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: with his name right now, but everybody wanted to change
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: at that spot, right, I mean, like so many fans.
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: I feel like, why is Cam McCord still have a job,
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: And like, I'm not trying to pick on Cam Accord
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: or Joe Judge, but clearly they saw it too, because
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: he's got some real reinforcements at the very least.
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: I just wonder when they announced he's running, because they
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: haven't officially given the coaching titles yet, I do wonder
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: if it will still list special Teams coordinator for Cam Acord.
- 1:26:24Speaker 9: Yeah. I wonder that too, because what you got Joe
- 1:26:29Speaker 9: Houston too.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: I mean you got another guy. I mean you have
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: so you got three guys coaching special teams.
- 1:26:32Speaker 8: Got three guys, yeah, Matthew Slater said, and you got
- 1:26:35Speaker 8: Matthew Slater now. The first day he said, you know,
- 1:26:37Speaker 8: it's great to have Joe working with us and and
- 1:26:39Speaker 8: he said with with Cam and Joe.
- 1:26:41Speaker 7: Yeah, hey, the more the merrier, because the Special Teams
- 1:26:46Speaker 7: was not good hash here outside.
- 1:26:48Speaker 10: Of Orcus Jones.
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: Now, I just know that he is such a bad
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: rap right now, and I totally understand it. But I
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: mean when he was here the Patriots Special teams, when
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: Joe Judge was the Special teams, they were top five,
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: top ten in d v A, like every year that
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: he was a special team's coach, they were one of
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: the best.
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: Well, yeahs just.
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: Didn't have to worry about special teams, you know, And lately,
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: you know, it's it's an adventure and it shouldn't be.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Ed Lee back deep at Lee.
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: He's been active. I mean he's but he's been here
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: like not even two weeks, but he's been. But he's
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: showed up a little bit.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: Such a classic training camp player.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you're a local childress.
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: Children's perfect.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: Usually every once in a while, Chris Harper ends up
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: squeaking up.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: Don't bring up Harper's muff.
- 1:27:45Speaker 9: Harper's muff bleak.
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: So they're in the far field.
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: The quarterbacks are working on a little some red zone
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: action with looks like a Seci Hunter.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: Scottie Washington was over there earlier.
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: Who's seventeen Washington yet? So the three of them are
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: working with the quarterbacks, including Mac.
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: I mean that last year the red zone offense, we
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: talked about it earlier. Having those two tight ends should
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: really help. And then you add DeAndre Hopkins into that
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: mix too, and that that red zone offense should be
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: a lot better.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: Oh sorry, I did not have a Lawrence guy holding
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: out on my my Bengo card for this spring. That's
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: an interesting one. I wonder what's gonna happen though.
- 1:28:28Speaker 8: I just thought it was interesting that in OTAs they
- 1:28:32Speaker 8: were missing what fifteen twenty ish players every day and
- 1:28:37Speaker 8: everybody was talking about Juju and Judon Trent and no
- 1:28:41Speaker 8: one was ever mentioning Lawrence guy, who was not there
- 1:28:44Speaker 8: in any of the days.
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: I just well, he's like because I think that he's
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: made it into that area where doesn't really you think,
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: didn't make a lot of noise, Like you know, it's
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: has been reliable, just as you know a thirty three
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: year old guy that has signed it a long term
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: deal that you know, maybe this is going to be
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: it till the end. So yeah, it's certainly something gonna
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: be on the radar now though stinks that Taekwon's not
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: out here. That's the bummer.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: Reported that as a soft tissue injury.
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: I don't like it.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: You never like to hear that, especially.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: After you spend all week like comparing him to Will
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: Fuller and you know, it's like I can't help but
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: like god, you.
- 1:29:19Speaker 9: Know it's it's just you didn't have to take the
- 1:29:21Speaker 9: comparison that far right.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: With the speed guy though, that's just the.
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: Last right, that's a hamstring, right, I mean that's where
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: you hit your head goes right like, and it's just
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: with a young player, there's nothing like you talk about
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: what can we get from these practices, Like there's nothing
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: worse for me than a young promising player who just
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: isn't out here. Like that's just that's the worst part
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: of this practice.
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: That's how you turn into just right guy that was
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: involved and could catch, you know, sixty passes to a
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: guy that's running wind sprints from the season.
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: He's just not in the mix silver with Moses on
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: the lower field doing like plisthenics.
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: Yeah great, you just can feel it too, and he
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: is not out there. The lack of vertical threat in
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: this offense, Like he's the only guy that brings that
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: juice to what they have right now. It's just everything
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: is so hunkered down in the middle of the field
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: and the tight end and the dig routes and the crossers,
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: and but he's out there just even just a threat
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: of it is just as old.
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: And we haven't seen Juju either, I mean, you know,
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: and it's you know, like we talked about, it's not
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: so much like, well, how good is Juju in this offense?
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: It's just you know, what's what's his size look like?
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: I mean, he's a pretty good guy, Like you know what,
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: what does that speed kind of does that? Does his
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: speed pop a little bit?
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: And he's got some sort of injury too, right.
- 1:30:36Speaker 9: He finished.
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: I mean he's here.
- 1:30:38Speaker 9: He had a knee injury in the Super Bowl.
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: I saw him this morning, So he's here. He's just
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: not practicing.
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he he injured his knee in the AFC Championship
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: game and I obviously played through it in the Super
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: Bowl over Josh Bloodstelle.
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: High pointed it.
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: Yeah, that's something that that he can do.
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: Scottie Washington, he's got to.
- 1:31:02Speaker 9: He's a layer from trace mcsrely, there you go. That
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: was not on my being called layer layered throw from
- 1:31:09Speaker 9: the trace.
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like it's either winding down or getting
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: ready to ramp up. I don't know, God, what time
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: is it, twelve thirty one, I've lost you.
- 1:31:20Speaker 8: It seems like there's a good amount of time left.
- 1:31:22Speaker 8: But this would be like a more of an opportunity
- 1:31:24Speaker 8: seven on seven, that's.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: What it looks like. Yeah, well they haven't done any
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: field goals yet, so that's.
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: Or run over to the hill. I mean, do you
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: really do conditioning? I mean, how much could con guison
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: help when you're still a month out from camp?
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: Like that's a big thing to me about like certain
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: guys reporting, like some of these veteran guys, I don't
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: necessarily care about them participating in the practice, but that
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: you just want to see, like how much you wag
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Trent Brown, like, you know, where are you at with
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: your off season workouts? And because he hasn't been here
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: that much, so you look at Trent Brown, even Lawrence guy,
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: you know all these guys like are you are you?
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: Is the arrow pointed in the right direction in terms
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: of your your physical conditioning? Yeah, I think that that's
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: almost it's just a check in.
- 1:32:12Speaker 8: It's just a check Remember last year Mike g Reese
- 1:32:14Speaker 8: had that, I mean voluminous uh long?
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: It is for.
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: Trade of mini cam nice nice throw by McSorley. Though,
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: it's just right in there with the wind beat Sean Wade.
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: Are we sure Sean Wade should be on a ninety
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: man roster?
- 1:32:35Speaker 9: Wow?
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: Gets smoked every time he's out there.
- 1:32:37Speaker 9: That turned he's Tray.
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: Nixon versus and Trace mcsorly just.
- 1:32:42Speaker 9: Going on just two years ago, three years ago, that
- 1:32:45Speaker 9: we got to steal of that that trade.
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: I always think that for a second.
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: But Joey writes in I'm just gonna say it. He says,
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: I think Kendrick Bourne. I think Kendrick Bourne is going
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: to have a great year in will be your number
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: one receiver? Or maybe it's the coffee caffeine talking.
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: What do I know.
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: I'm just a guy who sits behind a computer designing
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: buildings all day all I think I have.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: A number one receiver Like to some people, I think
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: it means different things than it means to others. So yeah,
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: could he lead the team in catches like?
- 1:33:21Speaker 6: Maybe?
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: I guess? But is that a number one receiver or
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: is it just the guy that leads the team in catches?
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: You know, how did everybody feel about what he said
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: on Friday about.
- 1:33:30Speaker 8: You know, just not have thought it was brutally honest.
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: But I'm not sure I loved like him saying at all.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: No, I didn't either, Paul, And I feel like my
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: feeling now is that if Hopkins were to come, I
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: think burns the guy out.
- 1:33:42Speaker 8: Well, it's funny, I kind of thought the same thing.
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: I wouldn't be stunned if the email was right and
- 1:33:52Speaker 8: that he has a good bounce back year in plays.
- 1:33:54Speaker 8: I think it would be a bad sign if, like
- 1:33:56Speaker 8: Evan said, if you're calling him your best if if
- 1:33:59Speaker 8: you're not one receiver, you mean he he had the
- 1:34:01Speaker 8: best year of your receivers.
- 1:34:03Speaker 9: I don't think that would be a good thing, right.
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: I just don't see how he fits in with if
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: Hopkins came, and you know what you'd do with Hopkins
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: where he's you know, not really an outside receiver anymore.
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: So Yeah, it's I mean, you're not gonna you got
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: ju ju, You're you're clearly probably gonna have him as
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: your top slot. I just it kind of makes boring
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: the fifth receiver, and it's you know, and he's just
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: it's it's he's high maintenance, you know, like there's always
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: kind of you gotta always have an ear out for
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: what he's saying or what he's doing. And I don't know,
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: I think it would.
- 1:34:29Speaker 9: Come down to just how much faith they had in
- 1:34:31Speaker 9: Hopkins if they signed him.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it just as tough with either Born or Parker,
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: because those are the two guys chopping block potentially if
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: Hopkins signs, you can't just have one of those guys
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: sitting on the bench for seventeen weeks because they can
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: play on another team and they'll bitch, right, so they
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: so they become malcontents.
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: At that point.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: I think, and not in a negative way, that that's
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: fair because they they could go to another team and
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: be in there another team's top three. It's understandable, and
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: I think that's the part I would I think I
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: would like them to keep the depth if they could,
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: just because they do have a thirty one year old
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins, they do have Juju who has a little
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: bit of an injury history. Taekwon already heard again or
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: baked up again, So like it would be nice to
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: keep the depth. But can you do that with while
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: keeping everybody happy is a tough question.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: Hey, I'm just taking a peek down in Dante's Inferno,
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: And how does Adrian Klem look to you out there?
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: Like?
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: You know, it looks like he's not running back and
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: forth between coordinating the offense and coaching the line, so
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: that's a positive.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he looks really chill to me.
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: I thought he would be a little bit more. And
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: maybe it's, you know, because we're out here and he's
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: trying not to be too intense. But he looks really
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: chill to me. But one thing I really like about
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: it is he seems to always be a sounding board,
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: you know, every time they run a rep and maybe
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: and go so high for like one of the younger guys,
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: one of the rookies, it seems like they're instantly looking
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: for Clem to to be like, what did I do wrong?
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: You know, coach me up on on on whatever it was.
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: And that's a good sign. I think it shows a
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: little bit of trust is already being built there.
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: It looks like he's doing a lot of teaching right now.
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: Yeah, well him and him and Billy Yates, right, I
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: mean Yeah, a lot of teaching the guys that both
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: played you know, played here played offensive line, big guys.
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: Now we're doing special teams.
- 1:36:29Speaker 9: Kickoff, Yeah, working on.
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: The kickoff team when Joe Joe's running the show.
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: Fair catch.
- 1:36:35Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm gonna be interested to see what they do again,
- 1:36:38Speaker 8: although until they not have anybody kicking.
- 1:36:41Speaker 9: There's I see folk now.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, these are so this is uh ooh camera cord
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: bout of yelling stuck and hear him. Well, yeah, so
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: we got the I guess people can't see. Yeah, yellow
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: orange pennies and was that I mean Nick looked like
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: nick folks got it to the end zone.
- 1:37:18Speaker 8: Oh yeah, this is a deep But he's kicking from
- 1:37:21Speaker 8: the thirty five five of this field.
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: I don't know if that's a true thirty five yard
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: line or not. It looks like it might be.
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, he's kicking from the thirty five. Yeah, he
- 1:37:31Speaker 8: does have a good wind.
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: I think, Well, but is this a hundred yard field?
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 1:37:37Speaker 9: It may not be.
- 1:37:38Speaker 8: But that's the thirty five yard line though, I mean,
- 1:37:41Speaker 8: like you can see the ten yard increments.
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: That's Ryland gives it a word.
- 1:37:47Speaker 9: Yeah, that's deep into the end.
- 1:37:48Speaker 6: I think they did make this event. I think they
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: did expand this to be one hundred yard field it
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: used to be like eighty.
- 1:37:55Speaker 9: Yeah, I think they both.
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: I think they're both one hundred yard.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: Yeah, they're numbers like they are. I don't know why
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: they would do that.
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: Wasn't they were shorter? And I think they added to
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: the grass metrics system.
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Is this a real kicking competition or is Chad Ryland
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: just I mean, I don't know.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: It's gonna be tough to tell. I don't I mean,
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: I think Ryland has the leg It.
- 1:38:14Speaker 8: Looks like we've talked a lot about like the whole
- 1:38:16Speaker 8: quarterback thing, like with with that third quarterback spot and
- 1:38:20Speaker 8: things that you could do one game day.
- 1:38:22Speaker 9: Like I I would think.
- 1:38:24Speaker 8: It'd be a waste of a roster spot to have
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: a kickoff specialist and a field goal Yeah.
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:38:32Speaker 9: I just don't know how to can have done that
- 1:38:34Speaker 9: in the past.
- 1:38:35Speaker 4: But I mean i'd be curious pressure the pressure kicks
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: in training camp, you know, the kind of stuff of
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: all right, to get the.
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: Night off, I mean in steadium practice, you know.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: Nick nick Folk, I mean, he's gonna be steady, like
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: you just wonder about Ryland. You know, how's he going
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: to do when it's you know, when it's on the line,
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: those kind of things. I think that's what they got
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: to try to find out. Is this kid gonna be
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: able to handle the pressure the pressure of it all?
- 1:38:55Speaker 4: We know, Nick, folks might not give you a plus,
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: but yeah, he can clearly.
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: Kick the ball, Like in terms of distance, I think
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: he's got a decent leg and seems like when they
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: kick on those skinny posts that he's got a decent
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: control of the ball too. But that's what it comes
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: down to, Deuce is like, is he gonna be able
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: to kick a forty eight yard er in December with
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: the game on the lote like, you know, you just
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: don't know in these types of settings, if he's got.
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: That Bill Belichick spending some time with whoever the guests are.
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: I can't make out the logo on there. It looked
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: like a Nitley Lion, but it's too far away from
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: me to see.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: That does look like, uh kind of looks like the
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: Penn State coach will playing on right now? Franklin, Right,
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: that's he's.
- 1:39:40Speaker 9: Still names Franklin. Yeah, former Vendy.
- 1:39:46Speaker 14: Y.
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: Well, that would make a lot of sense because Bill
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: has ties to Vanderbilt.
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: In Penn state.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: The other bill.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it does look like the state.
- 1:40:01Speaker 9: Right, should I write that the guy that looked like
- 1:40:06Speaker 9: James Franklin?
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: I mean, does that not look like James Franklin to
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: the two?
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: I don't know from Jimmy Franklin.
- 1:40:15Speaker 9: I know what James Franklin looks like. I just can't see.
- 1:40:17Speaker 9: This guy's way out of my range.
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: Yeah, binocularly, Yeah, I think it's possible.
- 1:40:22Speaker 9: I can't afford that kind of stuff.
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: I gotta go to thirteen dollars Walmart ones.
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: But off the.
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: Someday I might be able to afford. That'll put you
- 1:40:32Speaker 8: on a painting plan, right, frivolous addition, big whistle, how
- 1:40:38Speaker 8: are we gonna.
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: Get something fun here?
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: And ended off some quasi still got about thirty minutes.
- 1:40:42Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think we're that close to being done,
- 1:40:44Speaker 8: unless it's gonna rap earlier than they thought.
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it looks like we're getting eleven on eleven.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: This looks like it might be real first, as far
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: as I.
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: Always got to put the disclaimer, you know, I hope
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: we're gonna speed it up a little yeah, it looks
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: like eleven and eleven.
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: Yeah, and they have you know, like all the players
- 1:41:03Speaker 8: are going to the sidelines too, right, That doesn't always happen.
- 1:41:06Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, So here comes Bill, So there, there's there's Mac.
- 1:41:13Speaker 9: I don't want that guy looking at my offense.
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: Direction.
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: Now, twelve personnel on the field. This is about as
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: the real as it's gonna get.
- 1:41:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, this is it.
- 1:41:29Speaker 9: This is Bill's Jack Jones and Gonzales with Phillips.
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: Eighty five and it's a touchdown to Hunter Henry.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: They're in that little like a three man blitz there though,
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: and they did this on Friday too. They start sending
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: some pressure more so, I think just to see if
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: they could walk it, to be honest.
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: Gonzales out there right away on the outside.
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: Getting some mills at safety, but not on the back end.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: You know, they've been playing him a lot of the slot,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: like that bass package slot, you know, when they played
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: teams that are in heavier groupings. They've been using the
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: safeties a lot in the slot.
- 1:42:15Speaker 9: Can we continue to see Bill Murray getting a lot
- 1:42:18Speaker 9: of those reps at right guard with a win you out?
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely something considered without the the rookies.
- 1:42:24Speaker 9: He's been around now for a while.
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: Yeah's defensive lineman, like four or five years at this
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: point William and Marriott. Yes, Bill blocked a bunch of punts.
- 1:42:42Speaker 9: And we are, once again, Evans seeing a steady diet
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: of tight end receptions.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: Yeah, is this gonna be it?
- 1:42:50Speaker 7: Like?
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: Is it We're just gonna get five year pass?
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: Like, can we throw the ball down the field one time?
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: Give them time?
- 1:42:57Speaker 9: Last year.
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: They're setting it up. They setting it up us.
- 1:43:06Speaker 9: Oh, we got a wide receiver screen.
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: Andrew Porn, We're matriculating the ball downfield.
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: So we talked about We talked about Born talking to
- 1:43:16Speaker 8: the media last week on Friday, and you asked me
- 1:43:19Speaker 8: what I thought?
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: Yeah, were you guys similarly?
- 1:43:21Speaker 8: Like it was really refreshing to hear such honesty, but
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: at the same time wondering what Bill might have thought
- 1:43:26Speaker 8: about that.
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, I mean I I thought that, you know.
- 1:43:30Speaker 10: He took responsibility for.
- 1:43:33Speaker 7: Him not being physically ready to be great, versus you know,
- 1:43:39Speaker 7: blaming it on you know, the coaching or other things.
- 1:43:43Speaker 7: I thought it was interesting that he took responsibility and
- 1:43:45Speaker 7: said he's been focusing on getting stronger, getting faster, et
- 1:43:49Speaker 7: cetera heat and he said that's why.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: He didn't play well.
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: It was ninety eight, just one off side and now
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: they're again taking a taking a line.
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: He's been offside a couple of times. Ye last year too.
- 1:43:59Speaker 8: That's definitely been a plo emphasis for the offense, I
- 1:44:01Speaker 8: would say, trying to do that, trying.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: To get that see so it's going to be throw
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: to the tight ends, get him to jump. That's all
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: you need. That's the explosive offense.
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: Maybe they.
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: Almost okay, we're we're ooing because Kiki went over the
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: middle and got met by uh it went down, he held.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: Up, but that would have been bad.
- 1:44:25Speaker 9: Uh oh yeah, no one, No one's hurt, but probably
- 1:44:29Speaker 9: a little more contact than we're looking for.
- 1:44:32Speaker 7: So Paul, you would have wanted him to just say like, oh, I.
- 1:44:35Speaker 9: Know that was all on last year. Like his whole
- 1:44:38Speaker 9: thing was all like yeah, like this is the way
- 1:44:40Speaker 9: it's supposed to be. It's great. He knows what he's doing.
- 1:44:43Speaker 8: He must have said he knows what he's doing five
- 1:44:45Speaker 8: times and at one point Tom Kinran asked him, it's
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: like you realize when you talk like that, people are
- 1:44:52Speaker 8: naturally going to assume that you're saying, and it.
- 1:44:54Speaker 9: Wasn't that, and he more or less.
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: That's the way you take it, that's the way you're
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: taking Yeah, I just I'm with you.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: I just worry about the repercussions. Like he's definitely one
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: of the best receivers on this team and he should
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: be playing and he should be involved. And if they
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: signed DeAndre Hopkins, he shouldn't be the odd man out
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: in my mind. But when you say stuff like that,
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: you know how it works around here.
- 1:45:20Speaker 9: Right, And like I said, I thought he was refreshingly honest.
- 1:45:23Speaker 9: But I just wonder if Bill thought the same thing.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: I didn't really care for him, being like I had
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: a bad year, Like I just I don't. I like,
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: I just felt like it was making it about him,
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: and like, I don't your whole offense had a bad
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: year last year. What you're saying, like you could have
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: had a better year, Like, I just don't know what
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: he was trying to get it.
- 1:45:43Speaker 10: I didn't take it that way.
- 1:45:44Speaker 7: I took it as like there were things that he
- 1:45:47Speaker 7: could have taken care of and he didn't take care
- 1:45:49Speaker 7: of it. Like when he got those opportunities to be
- 1:45:51Speaker 7: on the field, he was not productive.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: So I don't need to hear it.
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: I mean, like you know, I don't. I just like
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: I feel like you speak for the team, like we
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: as an offense, we didn't do enough last year, Like
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: I don't know, like it just it reflected more negatively
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: on his season for me because I didn't think that.
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: I thought Kendrick Corn did all he could, you know, like,
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: and so he's coming out saying I could have.
- 1:46:12Speaker 9: Done more, like sure, but like, I don't see.
- 1:46:15Speaker 6: I took it.
- 1:46:15Speaker 7: I like the accountability accountability.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: I took it as I.
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: Had a bad year because they didn't play me. That's
- 1:46:22Speaker 8: how I took it, and they didn't. He didn't play
- 1:46:25Speaker 8: as much as he should have last year. Now we
- 1:46:27Speaker 8: can argue till the cows come home as to why
- 1:46:29Speaker 8: he didn't play more than he did. And I think
- 1:46:32Speaker 8: there's a lot of different theories about that. But I
- 1:46:34Speaker 8: took it as I wasn't as productive as I wanted
- 1:46:37Speaker 8: to be. He never said it, but I think the difference,
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: based on everything else he said, was because they wouldn't
- 1:46:42Speaker 8: play me because they didn't know what they were doing.
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: Matt's series is over, Zapie's in there now.
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: Mac is hanging out with the with the offensive line
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: on the sideline.
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: So all right, he's not a loan, he's not a
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: man alone.
- 1:46:57Speaker 9: Well, don't speak too fall. He started walking over toward
- 1:47:01Speaker 9: the back by himself. Now it looks like some of
- 1:47:05Speaker 9: the guys are going with him.
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: Yeah he was.
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: He was chatting with David Andrews after.
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: I think he's going back to his He's going back
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: to his lonesome alone.
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: It's Temple of Solitude.
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: Oh that's a bad throw there by Zay. I gotta admit,
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: like just watching Zappy through some of these practices, like, no,
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: That'sapi zactly No, I mean he's a backup.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: He's a backup courth.
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: I didn't know where you were going at No, like
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: anybody who was like happy, No, it's a nice little
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: backup that you're developing right now, and it's good to
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: have those guys. But if anybody thinks that, like if
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: Zappy plays this year, it's because they just don't have
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: a choice.
- 1:47:49Speaker 19: I just love the way he executes the play action sake,
- 1:47:53Speaker 19: the timing on his face. That was a bit to
- 1:47:57Speaker 19: specifically get a rise out of you, and you didn't
- 1:47:59Speaker 19: take it.
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: Timing is just tim.
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: I think he does that a little bit better than
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: Mac Jones.
- 1:48:16Speaker 9: They now, sorry, we're not talking, just we're reacting.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: Killing the pressure.
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: I always watch Zappie and I I really genuinely try
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: to watch it objectively and be like, what if is
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: there anything that I feel like he is better than
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: Mac at Like, like, is there really something that I
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: can say he's concretely better than Mac at this?
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: And you said earlier anticipation.
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: I do think that there's some of that element.
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I do think he he has a good timing
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: and anticipatory rhythm to the passing game that sometimes I
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: don't see for Mac all the time. So yeah, something.
- 1:49:05Speaker 7: I also wonder what have what it would have been
- 1:49:07Speaker 7: like for him this year had he had a actual
- 1:49:09Speaker 7: offensive coordinator last year, so like he's basically having a
- 1:49:13Speaker 7: rookie season right now, like with a real coach, actually
- 1:49:17Speaker 7: him real things.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: He was one of the ones that played okay and
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: whatever the heck that was that.
- 1:49:22Speaker 7: Yeah, that was more so just his instincts than him,
- 1:49:26Speaker 7: Like he had no help that So I'd be interesting
- 1:49:30Speaker 7: this like if he had Josh, like Mac had Josh,
- 1:49:32Speaker 7: Like what his first year would have been.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: Like he's zapper. All right, who's up next?
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: Don't get don't beat trace, don't be trace.
- 1:49:44Speaker 10: I've didn't once Stunningham.
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: Yeah, that was like Cunningham is uh lining up maybe maybe.
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: And probably was receiver at this portion.
- 1:49:54Speaker 9: Where do you see Cunningham? I see Mac Jones in
- 1:49:56Speaker 9: the middle of the offensive lineman.
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: No, yeah, I he was backing up.
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: I thought we're getting a little another shot with.
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: The one going to be with Mack again.
- 1:50:04Speaker 9: Yeah, they're going to come in from about midfield, maybe
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: the forty five.
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: Yeah, So here's you know, Sam Roberts getting a little
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: little shot here. No Lawrence guy, Carl Davis jumping off
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: side last reps. He was out there with the second
- 1:50:19Speaker 4: sea second. But I you know, the thing I can't
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: help but notice is that, you know, we're just a
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: couple of years removed from spending draft picks on on
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: Josh Bledsoe and Ronnie Perkins, and it seems like both
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: those guys are.
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: Like Bentley got in there on that play.
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: Yeah, both those guys are now going to be probably
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: pushed up the roster by this draft class. So it's just,
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: you know, you draft so many strong safeties since with
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: some of those assets and you know, have been allocated
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: a little bit differently some of those draft picks.
- 1:50:52Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, those are not the ones I'm going
- 1:50:55Speaker 8: to look back on. I think, I mean sixth and
- 1:50:57Speaker 8: seventh round picks. Like I know a lot of people,
- 1:50:59Speaker 8: we get in the lot of questions in the mail
- 1:51:01Speaker 8: bag about folding in speed, you know, and where they
- 1:51:06Speaker 8: might fit in the secondary, and listen, we can always
- 1:51:09Speaker 8: be surprised and things can change. But my guess is
- 1:51:12Speaker 8: those guys are special teamers if they make the team,
- 1:51:15Speaker 8: and I'm not going to look at it three years
- 1:51:16Speaker 8: from now and say, wow, what a really disappointing draft
- 1:51:19Speaker 8: pick if he never turns out to be a cornerback.
- 1:51:21Speaker 8: I don't necessarily think they were drafted with that in mind,
- 1:51:23Speaker 8: or they wouldn't be six and seventh round picks.
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:51:27Speaker 9: Now, I'm not ready to close the door and bled
- 1:51:29Speaker 9: so yet.
- 1:51:30Speaker 8: I think there's there's a chance that he could factor,
- 1:51:32Speaker 8: and I do I think Evan earlier was talking about
- 1:51:35Speaker 8: they do have a lot of guys with that kind
- 1:51:37Speaker 8: of skill set. So maybe he does get pushed off,
- 1:51:41Speaker 8: but I think there's some promise there. I don't know
- 1:51:45Speaker 8: he shod up a little bit early last year.
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: I remember, I mean he got the opportunity I think
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: when what like Dugger was out or something early.
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: So much of this right now is just check sending
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: Hunter Henry up the scene and we're just gonna layer
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: it underneath and just yeah, I've I've written curl flat
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: and sit way too hot for my liking.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: It's all about practice Evans. Last year felt like patients patience.
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: It was a lot of that last year, But at
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: least this year it's like at least he's flaming them consistently,
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: like it looks like it's in time, but.
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: Gonzales consistently on the outside on.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: Parker, what's going on?
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: That play broke down.
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: On the ground.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: If you would have got there, but Mac being chased
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: by Bentley.
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: Bentley used to be active as always.
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: Yeah Bentley Bentley doesn't know what practice speed is. That
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: guy has shot out of a canon.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: Why is born to.
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: Map?
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: Yeah? I love it was Borne taking a labor is
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: just going to yeah.
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: Pierre Strong in the backfield, p d oh we were out, gets.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: A big paw in there.
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: This hasn't been a good series, yeah, kind of clunky.
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: Started out with Bentley in the backfield. Had another play
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: where Bentley broke in batted past just now.
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: It's uh, that's what's gonna happen.
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: Though.
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: If you keep on throwing the ball five yards down
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: the field, the defensive.
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: Are just gonna they start to they start to see
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: it again.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: Yeah, nobody even wants to test Christian Gonzales. Don't even
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: throw it at him.
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: Corner blitz, corner blitz with Gonzales. As a result, Parker's
- 1:54:01Speaker 6: wide open.
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: That's funny. I mean, that's like Steve Belichick like.
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: Throwing the.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: Especially like do you usually blitz the strong side corner
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: like when he drank, Like, I mean, it's just so obvious,
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: Like I don't know. I just feel like usually your
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: corner blitzes are coming from the backside, So you didn't.
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: It's not the first place he's looking.
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: At least he.
- 1:54:23Speaker 8: Knew at least Mac Newer to go with the I
- 1:54:25Speaker 8: think that's that's what that's designed for, is to make
- 1:54:27Speaker 8: sure that the quarterback knows that's coming.
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: Back.
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: Just I mean, there everybody on that one. There you go, Henrick.
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: Touch down up the middle.
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a I think you know, they would
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: they were working their pressure package and a fire series
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: and I thought that Mac, you know, other than that
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: one that they did get the sack on him. I
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: mean a couple of throws for a new where to
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: go with it against the heat, which definitely was not the.
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Case last year. Yeah, no, it looks like I mean
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: that's that's the good thing. I mean, it hasn't been
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: the most you know, exciting down the field practice, but
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: it just he seems like he's in control. He knows
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: what he's looking for, and he knows what he wants
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: to do. It doesn't there's not a lot of like
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: stopping going to ask Bill O'Brien what I'm doing. I mean,
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: it's just like I just see Bill O'Brien on the
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: sideline just he doesn't it's like just riding one of
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: the calls. He doesn't really seem to need to get
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: in there, and you know, mess under the hood that much.
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: That a pumpkin not throw that he.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: Hit to Bourne was nice. I mean, that's that's a
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: zero pressure and he knows he's got the leverage. Just
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: got to get it out right, like I mean, just
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: survive and get it out and hit him on time
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: like that was a I think that's a real catch
- 1:55:54Speaker 3: and run in the game.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: I totally agree.
- 1:55:56Speaker 8: You can tell when you look at a play, you
- 1:55:58Speaker 8: can tell like that's that that's had a like a
- 1:56:01Speaker 8: reasonable fact simile of of what it was supposed.
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: To look like.
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: Yeah, Mike, So, wanting to follow up on what you
- 1:56:08Speaker 7: just said about Bill O'Brien kind of just on the
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: side just observing calling plays. Do you prefer a micromanaging approach,
- 1:56:15Speaker 7: you know, from an offensive coordinator or do you prefer
- 1:56:17Speaker 7: just kind of.
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: You'll talk about it. I don't think anybody ever prefers micromanagement.
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: I think, I mean, I guess the point I was
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: just making was, you know, he's not furious with how
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: unky it looks or how guys aren't doing what I mean,
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: it just seems for the most part that, well, there's
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: similar calling in the plays Bill.
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: Bill's in there, you know, with the offense and they're
- 1:56:36Speaker 6: simulating the game, so you know, this is where O'Brien
- 1:56:39Speaker 6: would be be on the sideline.
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: I think that's one hundred percent. He doesn't want to
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: be too involved because he wants to see what they're
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: going to put on film, and I'm sure when they
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: go back and watch it, later this afternoon.
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: That's when he'll get half. But you also don't see guy.
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: You don't see right now after the play him yelling
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: to one guy like that's you.
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: But Bill is a little under control, you know, I
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: don't know Bill Belichick.
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: Yeah, where's Bill?
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: Now he's walking.
- 1:57:05Speaker 9: He's walking to Bill O'Brien.
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: Now he's walking back to get out here and get involved,
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien, don't look at my offense.
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: You out here. But it's interesting. Bill Belichick is the
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: one micro the field.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: Right yeah, behind thee this spin move.
- 1:57:24Speaker 6: He's calling the situation. Belichick is.
- 1:57:34Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: I wonder what it's like for for Billio coming back
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: to the NFL, uh, you know, after having been a
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: head coach, and I mean, I know he's offensive coordinator
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: at Alabama, so he's you know, familiar with being back
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: in that role. But just you know what's kind of
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: changed that this time around for him just being an
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: offensive coordinator, maybe a little less to to to you know,
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: try to handle well. I actually it's down the line issue.
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: But he was up in the booth last year at
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: Alabama and the coaches booth and calling the game from
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: up there, and I have to imagine he's gonna be
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: on the sideline, you know, where he can talk to
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: mac you know face. But that's a question that I
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: would have for him, like this, see the bird's eye
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: vantage point? Is that is that help him?
- 1:58:17Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: Is that make him a better play caller? And weighing
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: that whole thing because there are some coordinators that do
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: call it from the booth in the NFL, So I'm
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: interested to see what where he calls it from.
- 1:58:33Speaker 6: Now you're getting some sorely action.
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: I don't know if I call it actionedly just.
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: Another macron. No, he's walking towards the huddle.
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: But it's like zippy zip with the ones fish fish.
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: But the yeah, this is with the ones.
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll Jake Andrews, Jake Anders and Bill Murray and
- 1:59:10Speaker 4: and on the offensive line. It's a little misch mosh
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: Now sixty sixty walked out and did.
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: We I'm sorry, Riley reached the see did we get
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: him here?
- 1:59:22Speaker 7: Sorry?
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, So this is.
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: A couple of starting receivers out there, but this is
- 1:59:29Speaker 3: just the backup.
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: Yeah for the most part.
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: Yeah, wow foo o oh, okay, born over the middle man.
- 1:59:45Speaker 5: It's a mix on defense too. I see Bentley's out there.
- 1:59:49Speaker 5: I saw dugger out there. Yeah, get the back of
- 1:59:53Speaker 5: some back.
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: They got Isaiah Boulding up there, and uh and Paul's guy,
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: Rodnie Randall junior. It's not that's why I didn't. You're
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: familiar with the yeah senior, Yeah, junior.
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: Guys make anything of them giving at least giving Zappi
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: Parker and born to to throw to.
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: It's good.
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: I mean you got to get a little bit of
- 2:00:21Speaker 4: a sense with these guys.
- 2:00:23Speaker 6: I think that was a cat. It was. Yeah, that
- 2:00:26Speaker 6: was Parker Parker down the sideline, who was sixty three
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: on them. That's bolder and bold Isaiah Bolden. Parker did
- 2:00:35Speaker 6: a nice job over the shoulder, keeping his feet and bounds.
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: YEA nice ball by Zappy. Yeah, it's a little uh.
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: The winter that a little bit, but Parker made the adjustment.
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: It's just interesting that they're not they're not throwing them
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: out there with total total scrubs.
- 2:00:52Speaker 7: You know.
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: Yeah, totally back into the roster, guys.
- 2:00:54Speaker 4: I think you gotta do that though, you know, regardless
- 2:00:56Speaker 4: of quarterback competition or any of that stuff, Like, oh.
- 2:01:00Speaker 6: Part of gotta have that.
- 2:01:03Speaker 9: That's one that Mac will complete ten out of ten.
- 2:01:06Speaker 6: That was an interesting release by Zappi.
- 2:01:08Speaker 3: Yeah, they had the the stunt going on the right
- 2:01:10Speaker 3: hand side, looked like a Scotch One future that pushed
- 2:01:13Speaker 3: the pocket and he didn't hit it because of the pressure.
- 2:01:17Speaker 6: Yeah. I think he got rid of that a little
- 2:01:19Speaker 6: bit quicker than he wanted to.
- 2:01:21Speaker 9: Part of the receiver thing too here, Evan, it's just
- 2:01:23Speaker 9: the sheer numbers. Yeah, that's fair. You know, they just
- 2:01:27Speaker 9: had McSorley out there, and just the drive before this
- 2:01:30Speaker 9: with the ed Lee's and the Rallys and those guys.
- 2:01:34Speaker 4: There's more than one rally Web, you know what I mean.
- 2:01:38Speaker 4: I said it was a nightmare for a second.
- 2:01:40Speaker 9: It's definitely I'll keep that'll keep the coordinators up.
- 2:01:43Speaker 3: You're down, you're down two receivers. You will only have well,
- 2:01:49Speaker 3: I think they have nine on the roster, so they
- 2:01:51Speaker 3: have seven true receivers and they're kind of counting rally
- 2:01:54Speaker 3: Web as a receivers. Time Montgomery playing some receivers, just
- 2:01:58Speaker 3: give him the number.
- 2:01:59Speaker 8: That said, like, you guys the offensive lineman, you know
- 2:02:01Speaker 8: some you know it's Calvin Anderson and Cole Strange, Riley.
- 2:02:06Speaker 9: Reef, Bill Murray, I know everything. Bill Murray is a
- 2:02:08Speaker 9: backup and he's been with.
- 2:02:10Speaker 3: The first group throughout that I always try to just
- 2:02:13Speaker 3: throw when you read the code and like, okay, so
- 2:02:16Speaker 3: they didn't give him David Andrews at center. It's the bat,
- 2:02:19Speaker 3: it's the backup center.
- 2:02:20Speaker 4: But other than that, like these are guys that are
- 2:02:22Speaker 4: the guys that are gonna play.
- 2:02:23Speaker 3: Yeah, right, and you know, if you want to read
- 2:02:25Speaker 3: into those sort of things, like that's, yeah, that's what
- 2:02:28Speaker 3: we're seeing.
- 2:02:29Speaker 4: I've kind of noticed too that the Jake Andrews is
- 2:02:31Speaker 4: seems like he gets second center raps. It doesn't really
- 2:02:35Speaker 4: seem just like Cody Ruci's really Yeah.
- 2:02:39Speaker 3: I just always try to like go back to twenty
- 2:02:41Speaker 3: one and learn from the cam experience, which was clearly
- 2:02:44Speaker 3: not actually a quarterback competition, but they made it look
- 2:02:47Speaker 3: like a quarterback competition to an extent, And like, you know,
- 2:02:50Speaker 3: are they just swapping out David Andrews for Russi or
- 2:02:55Speaker 3: Jake Andrews just because they think we're idiots and we
- 2:02:57Speaker 3: can't pick up on the bat that they're actually trying
- 2:03:00Speaker 3: to cycle Zappian with.
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: The probably field gol, field goal, field goal. Everybody's yelling
- 2:03:10Speaker 4: field goal. Everybody yell at Mike field goal, but nobody
- 2:03:15Speaker 4: louder than Jojoe.
- 2:03:16Speaker 9: I was gonna say, no one competes with its famous
- 2:03:21Speaker 9: alonzo Joe.
- 2:03:24Speaker 4: All right, gotta write these down. This is important.
- 2:03:28Speaker 6: Okay, wrap gonna be wrapping up pretty soon.
- 2:03:31Speaker 4: All right, So we got on lunch. Oh yeah, what
- 2:03:34Speaker 4: are we doing, fog, I don't have a thing. I
- 2:03:37Speaker 4: don't have a thing. Lunch calling out a buy it
- 2:03:40Speaker 4: Mike and Paul lunch. So we got corless weight man
