Transcript
- 0:00Chris Jones: Today I'm joined by Ryan and Susan Ingler, where they share their story of throwing the rock.
- 0:05Chris Jones: And in doing so, they witnessed and saw God show up, not just in the people's lives that they are trying to help, but in their lives.
- 0:16Chris Jones: This gets interesting.
- 0:19Chris Jones: Welcome.
- 0:20Chris Jones: I'm Chris Jones, and this is Spiritual Hot Sauce.
- 0:27Chris Jones: I've been doing this podcast now for a year.
- 0:31Chris Jones: And three times, this episode to make the fourth time, I've had guests bring up my own teachings and metaphors because they thought they explained exactly their experience with life, God themselves, and their faith.
- 0:44Chris Jones: And I'm always humbled by that that others find value in what I'm sharing.
- 0:49Chris Jones: But on this episode with Susan and Ryan Ingler, they have been supporters of mine from the very beginning, completely submersed and bought in.
- 0:58Chris Jones: So this is a real treat for me.
- 1:00Chris Jones: And I want you to hear them tell about throwing the rock because they make it sound just so full of life.
- 1:07Chris Jones: And I want you to pay attention, not that you normally don't, but there is a miracle that emerges from this story very quietly and subtly.
- 1:18Chris Jones: And it's very beautiful and it's just happy to me.
- 1:21Chris Jones: It's like a Christmas story.
- 1:23Chris Jones: It's that good.
- 1:24Chris Jones: So stick around after I get done with this conversation because I want to share some thoughts.
- 1:29Chris Jones: Without further ado, here's the conversation.
- 1:32Chris Jones: Ryan and Susan Ingler, welcome to the sauce.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 1:36Chris Jones: Good to see you, Chris.
- 1:37Chris Jones: Yeah, good to see you guys.
- 1:39Chris Jones: So, what I want to talk about today, you head up a ministry of feeding the homeless and helping the homeless, but you do that together.
- 1:46Chris Jones: How'd this come about?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I think it was about six years ago, maybe.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And there was already some of that work being done at our church daylight.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And the person who was doing that was moving back to Illinois.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And so it left an opening.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And I honestly don't remember how we got pulled into it.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Do you, Ryan?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I guess H asked.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: I think H asked me uh if if we could help out.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Abby had asked me several times to go down there with her.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: And I'd done it maybe like once or twice before.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: And it just well, it's just kind of like like you said, as far as like throwing the rock.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: It's you can sit and let other people, you know, do the work.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: But when you see a void or that not being filled, it kind of reached to my heart and just said, you know, this is something God's given me a talent to do.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: So I decided I said cock to Susan.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: I said, hey, babe, you know, we can jump in and do this and and and get it started.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Will you say something about that, Susan?
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: And I think Ryan's always had kind of a heart for homeless.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: The people on the street, you know, you drive on the way to work, he would stop, you know, even before this ministry, right?
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: You'd give him, you know, a sleeping bag or food or whatever.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: So I think that was already a planted seed there.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And this was just an opportunity to grow it.
- 3:02Chris Jones: Right.
- 3:03Chris Jones: As you got into this and you took over the food ministry, what does that look like?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: First, we got to figure out what the heck are we cooking?
- 3:11Chris Jones: That's the first thing.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: How many do you think we're gonna cook for?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And to be honest, that was kind of the biggest fear in the beginning, right?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: This is something that, you know, I think people have to know.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: You you don't just walk into these things confident, but you walk in kind of afraid.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Like, what is are we gonna be able to do this?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Are we gonna be able to pull this off?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: We've never cooked for 40, 50, 60, 100 people.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: And now that's isn't it's also the quality.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: When we take food to the homeless, I'm bringing my dinner to them.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm we're bringing them high quality, again, just really quality food because I feel like, you know, oh well, they're homeless.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: They all they eat the hot dog or something.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: I try to bring, we try to bring quality food to them.
- 3:53Chris Jones: I mean, to say that they enjoy.
- 3:55Chris Jones: So you guys believe in in giving your best.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:58Chris Jones: Oh, a hundred percent.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: And it I think it gives them, you know, a little bit feeling really cared for, you know, not throwing shade on any ministry that brings peanut butter and jelly.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But, you know, if you're bringing smoked barbecue, yeah, they really love that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And I think that reaches them at a different level that like someone took time, right, and cared.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So yeah, so the process is we figure out what we're gonna cook, shop for it, and then show up on a Saturday morning and hope other people show up too.
- 4:30Chris Jones: That's a big that's a big part is hoping others show up to help.
- 4:34Chris Jones: Understandable.
- 4:35Chris Jones: When you started this, what was the response from the community?
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Grateful.
- 4:40Chris Jones: Oh, yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Just grateful to be actually, I feel like just grateful to be seen and just noticed because so many people daily will walk past homeless people or go past them and not even acknowledge their existence.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: For us to actually try to have a conversation with them and bring them food really struck their heart.
- 4:59Chris Jones: I think that is so important that when you give your best, you are like you said, you're seeing them, but that's also a form of love because you're saying, hey, you're worth more than peanut butter and jelly and bologna.
- 5:14Chris Jones: And if we have the ability to give you our best, I'm gonna give you what I would be eating because I see you not less than, but I see you equal to me, and I love you.
- 5:24Chris Jones: It's exactly that's right.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And then another couple in our church, I don't know if we can say names, but they would homemade cookies every time.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, people love their cookies.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Who's the other folks?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, Mike and Mayor.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: Mike and Mayor.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, Mike and Mayor.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Watching them step out of their comfort zone and start going downtown with us and seeing what we see firsthand.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: That's that meant a lot to me.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: We also give out clothes donations, and that too, we try to sort through and make sure, you know, again, you could give a homeless person a stained shirt, but what does that say to them?
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Like, this is my, you know.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: So we really try to even sort through that and again, not just be like beggars can't be choosers, you know.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: You wanted them to feel dignity.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: And sometimes we'll go back and if they say, you know, uh you didn't have something in my size, we have gone back and go purchase it somewhere and bring it to them to kind of thing too.
- 6:19Chris Jones: So wow, actively loving.
- 6:22Chris Jones: Once you start having these experiences and you start feeding people, giving them your best, what does those interactions look like?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think people were just so grateful and thankful.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: It's hard because you really want to form relationships, but again, it's so transient.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes we would see people over and over.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes honestly, people are are very mentally ill, could be very much under the influence.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: That's kind of difficult.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I remember we had done local kind of hotel plays recently, and they were so surprised we didn't make them do a church service first.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: It's like they felt like that we were gonna require them to do something, right?
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: To get something.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: We had the same instances before where they had kind of like that down under the bridge that one time where they were like, Oh, you know, we keep we all get together.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna, you know, try to preach at us or try to tell great God is and everything.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: I'm like, it's not my point to push God onto you, is to see my actions and that reflects God.
- 7:23Chris Jones: Let me show you the love of God rather than just talk about it.
- 7:26Chris Jones: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 7:27Chris Jones: To me, that seems very genuine.
- 7:29Chris Jones: It doesn't seem transactional.
- 7:32Chris Jones: I mean, that's where people's lives are changed when you love like Jesus loved.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: There was a gentleman that was that we kind of took under our wing.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: He kind of he kind of took ownership, like he uh very he he wanted a task and he wanted to help somehow.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: So in the winter time, we set up with him, we would bring down big propane tanks and he would fill up the little propane tanks that had to run their little stoves and things of that such.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: So as we were kind of getting and working into a relationship with him, we just asked him, said, you know, what is your situation?
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: How did you how did you get it?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: It's kind of a hard, you don't want to you want to ask the questions, but you don't want to ask the questions, but we did.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: We said, you know, how did you get in the circumstance?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: And he kind of briefly went over his circumstance.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: He says, Man, if I just had a car, if I just had a car, I could get out of this.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: And so I brought to our church, I said, Hey, we've got a guy, we've been dependent on him.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: You know, he'd call us up, say, Hey, we're out of gas.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: I'd go down there, the church would donate, you know, propane tanks to him.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: And we bought him a car, bought him a truck, watching him prosper, and he started getting out of it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: And the team and the other homeless people sabotaged his tires because they were they were jealous of that he had gotten that.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: So he was able to, and then we went down and bought him a tire to fix his car, whatever.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: But he later ended up getting a full-time job, and now he's in an apartment.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, that speaks volumes of just seeing someone in dire need and pulling them out, you know?
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: It's just yeah.
- 9:06Chris Jones: Yeah, that's the kind of stuff you remember.
- 9:08Chris Jones: That's the stuff that, like I said, you throw the rock, you can't deliver the results, you just do your best and hope God does.
- 9:14Chris Jones: But in those moments, you see God do these things.
- 9:17Chris Jones: And then you realize had you not been there giving your effort, he wouldn't have been where he is.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like the throwing the rock part because it did get discouraging sometimes that you feel always we'd always say, Oh, I wish we could do more, I wish we could do more.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And but you know, going and loving them and seeing them and feeding them and clothing them, that's throwing the rock, right, Chris?
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: And then God, whether it makes it across the the whole creek or not, you know, that's up to God.
- 9:46Chris Jones: That is so on point and so correct.
- 9:48Chris Jones: All we can do is give the effort.
- 9:50Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 9:50Chris Jones: God delivers whatever results He's going to deliver, but that's where lives are changed.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, and change my own.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, you change, you you change your own thoughts.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, like you sit there and think about how grateful and how blessed you truly are.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: You know, that speaks volume.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: You think, you know, you're sitting in the hot tub thinking, wow, these people don't have a shower.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Like, how blessed am I right now?
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: And like Susan to Susan's point, how much more I could be doing.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: I remember one time, and maybe it was about the tire or something else.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know, I don't know who else to call, but I know you guys would help me, kind of a thing, right?
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And how that just makes you feel like people just need somebody that's in their corner.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: He said he is I have no one else to call.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: And I pulled up and he had he had tried duct taping with super glue and like duct tape to tie her back together.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: And he was on his way for a full-time interview.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And man, he just broke down and just have a hard time talking that.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I think just in general, too, the stories make you realize, like, man, this could happen so quick to anyone.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Do you know what I mean?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And that maybe folks have an idea or a judgment or a thought in their head when they see the unhoused, and they're probably not all true, you know.
- 11:10Chris Jones: Yeah, it's not us and them.
- 11:12Chris Jones: It's we.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's right.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it it really builds a drive.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: It it's it's like a snowball.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like Susan said earlier, it's like you you're doing something, but you want to be doing more.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: Because I mean, you see them change.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: They're so just so thankful for everything that you bring and give to them.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: And I'm talking very sincere, like, not like Thanksgivers cookie, appreciate.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, they like this is everything.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: This cookie is the best thing they've ever gotten.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just it that really speaks, you know.
- 11:47Chris Jones: We don't know when we are that moment for somebody else where they feel like they're being seen by God.
- 11:53Chris Jones: Yes.
- 11:54Chris Jones: And sometimes when you're giving them that cookie, the unseen are now seen.
- 11:58Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 11:59Chris Jones: You know, that's true.
- 12:00Chris Jones: And when you're there, not as transactionally driven, where sit down, listen to the message, listen to my pitch, but rather I'm just bringing you something because I love you.
- 12:10Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 12:10Chris Jones: And I'm sorry you're hurting.
- 12:12Chris Jones: Just like unconditional love.
- 12:13Chris Jones: Just yes, unconditional love.
- 12:16Chris Jones: Do you think that you could get to the idea of unconditionally loving or actively loving like Jesus and understanding that concept?
- 12:24Chris Jones: Had you not been in the ministry of feeding the homeless, if you was just going to church, just trying not to sin.
- 12:32Chris Jones: Do you think you started to have a better idea of it once you started practicing it?
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Well, hands down.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Hands down.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I think people are intimidated, and that's fine.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I get that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: They don't know, you know, what to expect.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: It can be kind of scary.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, we've never, I mean, we've seen some things, but never did I feel really unsafe ever.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: You know, people will shout out and you could tell they're on drugs or whatever, or or be mad at you, or you know, whatever.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: But I never felt unsafe.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: But I know it's scary and intimidating to folks.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: But then when you do that, I mean, I've never regretted it, you know, not once.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes we're like, oh man, you know, we're tired or we got a lot going on, life gets busy, we got to do this this weekend.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: But then you're never wow, I wish I wouldn't have done that.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: You know, that's never gonna happen ever.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: And I tell you one of the craziest things, Susan, every time the weather's been perfect.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's held out.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: It's held out every time.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:28Chris Jones: That's pretty cool.
- 13:29Chris Jones: I think that's a little bit of God.
- 13:30Chris Jones: Four years.
- 13:31Chris Jones: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, it might start to drizzle or something as we're, but we're always like, oh, the weather's gonna be bad, and then it it holds off till you're just wrapping up so many times and it's been wild.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: A lot of times the perfect portions too.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean, there may be a stragglery once in a while.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: We don't we don't get, but everybody's needs usually get get met that we that we find.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot of God in it.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:53Chris Jones: That is really cool.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:55Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 13:55Chris Jones: What would you tell people that are in a comfortable place where they go to church, they want to do what's right, they they give to the church so people can go give to those who are hurting.
- 14:07Chris Jones: What would you say to them to encourage them to get out there and help?
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: Everybody has a certain niche.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Like there's some people that that show up on Saturday to help us out and they help us cook.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And then some will come and help us separate clothes, and some will help and bag stuff up for us.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: They're not necessarily going out all the way to the end product, but they are part of the process.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: So I'd say to people that everybody has a different niche, but with that, sometimes you can get out of your comfort zone and try something new.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: And even if it's not feeding, I think if people aren't going out in in the positive, as you say, I think you're missing a huge part of this whole thing, right?
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: God's whole intention and plan.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: And so I kind of going back to your first podcast where you talked a lot about there's a difference between a believer and a disciple.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Hell yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: That was a great one.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Sort of goes along with this, right?
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And I really, really, that concept's really stuck with me.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: And then I was thinking about, you know, in the Bible, and this is how I usually operate somewhere, it says, right, that even the demons believe.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: And so as we were preparing for this, I went James.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it James.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I went to go look up the verses for that.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: And those verses literally right before that talk specifically about feeding and clothing.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: And I thought, oh my gosh, that's exactly it, right?
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So I think it is a blessing to us to do that.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: You know, it again, like I said, I never regret it.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: It's always a blessing back that you receive when you put yourself out there and you help people who are in need.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: And I think that's, you know, gosh, that's why we're here, right?
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Like we're God's partners here on earth to bring the kingdom now.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: We're sort of the ambassadors of Jesus and, you know, doing what he did.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: He was our, he was our model, right?
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: Our perfect.
- 16:02Chris Jones: Yep.
- 16:03Chris Jones: We carry on his ministry.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 16:05Chris Jones: True.
- 16:06Chris Jones: When I was talking about a believer versus a disciple, Susan, you just nailed it.
- 16:11Chris Jones: That's exactly what I mean.
- 16:13Chris Jones: And as you said, it's our purpose, and it is.
- 16:16Chris Jones: In fulfilling your purpose as you guys are doing this, how has that changed you?
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: I think, like I said earlier, the want to do more is is what it just snowballs you.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: It's like it's a ball gets rolling, and you get the purpose, starts happening.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: You start seeing it's like a drug.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: You want more of it.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: You know, you want to help more people, you want to bring more people that happiness or that you know that feeling that they're getting, you know.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Has this experience changed how you see people and God?
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: I I would say it it's helped me see parts of people that I didn't see before.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Like I said, people that are truly lonely or truly feel like they're lost or uh, you know, like you said, unnoticed, to see that in other people has been something that that I that's that's brought out to me.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: I think when you take the concept of in the plus, right?
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: And not just staying out of the negative, it's like this compassionate, loving God that wants us to benefit from helping others.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Like this is a blessing to us as much as it is to them.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: And he wants us to experience the whole package.
- 17:25Chris Jones: When we throw the rock and we get into the positive zone, like Jesus, it's not just for those we're helping, it's for us too.
- 17:32Chris Jones: Great point.
- 17:33Chris Jones: Let's talk about that because all this led to you ultimately getting your own food truck, Rhino's food truck.
- 17:41Chris Jones: How does that happen?
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: That I tell you, we as Susan even talked about, I think even just yesterday.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: It's like I've always loved cooking food and smoking food and you know, and doing it as such, but I just had a feeling, and it was really bizarre.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: It's like I was at work one day and I was just hating my job like I always do.
- 18:02Chris Jones: And I was like, you know, God give me some kind of number five.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: Just give me some kind of an out.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: And it was the craziest thing.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: HL called me and said, Hey man, I want you to meet us over here.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: We just bought a new church and it's got a commercial kitchen and a food truck.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Okay, God doesn't put that in your lap like that.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: That you know, that's just like divine right there.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: We started feeding people slowly but surely, and then the numbers kept growing.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: It was like, okay, we did 20 to 30, now we're doing 50, now we did 120.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: It's like it kept building and building, and you know, doing the uh site 61 where we do their Thanksgiving dinner for them.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's huge joy to doing that every year.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: It's like it just built up, and then all of a sudden, one minute, I was like, you know, why not start a food truck up?
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: That seems to be a good thing.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: And then and I've got leftovers, I bring those to the homeless, you know, we feed them with some of the food that they had.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: So it's been kind of it's been a beneficial thing all around.
- 18:58Chris Jones: So you learned how to do this from helping, and one thing led to another, yeah, and now you actually own a business of doing this, yeah, and then in your free time, you go give and help.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Isn't that crazy?
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: So wow, yeah, it is crazy.
- 19:15Chris Jones: So from yeah, from from servitude and good stewardship, you were blessed in something you love doing where you can make a living at it.
- 19:24Chris Jones: That's incredible to me.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I think it gave us confidence, you know, and experience and expanding.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like how can we, yeah, how can we serve people and more and more people?
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: And that sort of gave, yeah, you the confidence to say I could do this professionally too.
- 19:40Chris Jones: God's on the job training program.
- 19:42Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 19:43Chris Jones: That's right.
- 19:43Chris Jones: So you're out there selling to people that can afford it, and those who can't, you're out giving.
- 19:48Chris Jones: There you go.
- 19:49Chris Jones: And it's your best.
- 19:50Chris Jones: What you sell to people is basically what you're taking to those who are hungry.
- 19:55Chris Jones: That's right.
- 19:56Chris Jones: That's right.
- 19:57Chris Jones: That's it.
- 19:58Chris Jones: I love it.
- 19:59Chris Jones: What's this whole experience taught you guys?
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Being a follower of Jesus means more than just sitting back and not doing wrong.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: And I think that if you can, you know, we all have kind of gifts.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: So for everybody, it might not be feeding, you know, people downtown or whatever, but we all have gifts that we can offer others.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: You know, we studied Matthew in a Bible study a little while back, and gosh, Jesus just hung out with all the outcasts all the time.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: Everybody, yeah.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: All the time.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: And you read through Matthew, and it just, it just, it's so obvious, right?
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: What we need to be doing.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Like I said, it's it's not sometimes it's not always about being around the comfortable group that are like you all the time.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you can grow when you interact with other types and other people in general.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you'd be surprised when you're around folks that aren't necessarily the same, you watching God show up.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And kind of a neutral ground between you and them is that feeling of God's presence.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: And that's awesome.
- 21:02Chris Jones: Yeah.
- 21:03Chris Jones: Well, this has been fantastic.
- 21:05Chris Jones: I I appreciate you guys taking the time to talk to me.
- 21:08Chris Jones: I'm big fans of you guys.
- 21:10Chris Jones: You like the dynamic duo, you know, out there helping people together.
- 21:14Chris Jones: So I love it.
- 21:16Chris Jones: And if anybody has uh an opportunity to go eat at Rhino's food truck, please support.
- 21:22Chris Jones: It's great food.
- 21:23Chris Jones: I'm a big fan of the food.
- 21:25Chris Jones: Thank you.
- 21:25Chris Jones: But please go support because it helps give to those who are in need.
- 21:30Chris Jones: And I appreciate what you guys do.
- 21:32Chris Jones: Well, thank you.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: We're big fans of you too.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: I love your podcast.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: It's every every week.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: I you go only do it every other week.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh no.
- 21:44Chris Jones: Well, I appreciate it.
- 21:46Chris Jones: Yeah, and I appreciate you guys.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, we really appreciate you.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: We've learned a lot.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And I think, like you said, I you know, I never, you know, I obviously we know we should be helping others.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: That's part of the Christian faith, but never ever really saw until you kind of.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Started talking about like the Good Samaritan and who was good and that it is action, right?
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: And I just love that.
- 22:06Chris Jones: Yes.
- 22:06Chris Jones: Well, guys, thank you so much.
- 22:09Chris Jones: And for the people that's listening to this, what would you like to tell them?
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: Try to find that gift that God has graced you with and use that for his benefit.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Like you said, whether it's cooking, whether it's, I mean, there's people that know how to knit, knit hats and clothes or or whatever.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: It's like I said, just look at your neighbor.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Like, if you have a neighbor that's in need, I mean, reach out to them.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:34Chris Jones: Get uncomfortable.
- 22:35Chris Jones: Be a part of a community.
- 22:36Chris Jones: If it's baked cookies or it's food prep or it's drive the truck, whatever it is, go be a part and help.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 22:44Chris Jones: It's not the same to just give and support, which is good.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 22:48Chris Jones: It's a whole different thing to go give and do it yourself, right?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: And you'll be blessed.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: You won't regret it.
- 22:55Chris Jones: Guys, thank you so much.
- 22:56Chris Jones: Love y'all.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Love you too.
- 22:58Chris Jones: And appreciate you coming on and can't wait to get some more of that great food.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Work it on a Philly cheesesteak.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be good.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 23:08Chris Jones: All right, guys.
- 23:09Chris Jones: Thank you.
- 23:10Chris Jones: All right, Chris.
- 23:11Chris Jones: Thanks.
- 23:12Chris Jones: I love the conversation.
- 23:14Chris Jones: I love Ryan and Susan Ingler.
- 23:16Chris Jones: I love their story.
- 23:16Chris Jones: I love what they do.
- 23:18Chris Jones: And I love that a miracle quietly began to surface and emerge from Ryan's prayer.
- 23:24Chris Jones: And Ryan got Rhino's food truck.
- 23:27Chris Jones: I think there's a very valuable lesson for us in this.
- 23:30Chris Jones: And I want you to follow me through this.
- 23:33Chris Jones: Follow kind of what I'm trying to convey.
- 23:35Chris Jones: And I hope I don't mess this up.
- 23:37Chris Jones: But we all think of when we have need, and we all do, to go to God and pray, which I think is fantastic.
- 23:44Chris Jones: And we typically have our handout, it's in that posture where we're have we have need.
- 23:49Chris Jones: We need something from God.
- 23:50Chris Jones: But I think it might be a little counterintuitive.
- 23:53Chris Jones: If you think of what Jesus gave us as being everything, and Jesus gave us one commandment, it's the seed that goes into our heart, the cardia, our center, our essence, how we choose, and that begins to grow.
- 24:06Chris Jones: Everything we need should be in that.
- 24:09Chris Jones: So if you think about this, if you're going to be a disciple of Christ and you're going to love like He loved, then going to God in the posture of your handout, asking isn't the correct posture.
- 24:23Chris Jones: The posture is to get out and take care of somebody else.
- 24:27Chris Jones: Go share what you do have with others that don't have.
- 24:30Chris Jones: I remember when I was younger, I used to hear, if you have a big need, give a big seed.
- 24:35Chris Jones: Now, in the context that was said by Hoot was said, I absolutely reject it.
- 24:40Chris Jones: Because typically it was an evangelist with their hand out making themselves the offering plate for God.
- 24:47Chris Jones: But if you do have a need, rather than just going to God, I do believe in giving.
- 24:53Chris Jones: I do believe that God loves a cheerful giver.
- 24:55Chris Jones: And Ryan and Susan Ingler are definitely cheerful givers, and they gave their best.
- 25:01Chris Jones: I think sometimes we look at the church as the destination.
- 25:06Chris Jones: We go there, we give our money, and we hope by proxy the church does it for us.
- 25:12Chris Jones: I mean, this is kind of the byproduct of being a believer.
- 25:15Chris Jones: No real disciple in this.
- 25:17Chris Jones: It's definitely a worshiper of the deity of Christ versus a disciple.
- 25:21Chris Jones: I do believe you should give to your church or wherever you assemble together, because it keeps the doors open so you can assemble together with other people in your community.
- 25:31Chris Jones: You know, the one glaring piece that I think that we all overlook is how did Jesus give?
- 25:37Chris Jones: Jesus gave his absolute best and he gave it all the time.
- 25:42Chris Jones: Who did he give it to?
- 25:44Chris Jones: Those who were hurting, those who had need.
- 25:54Chris Jones: That's how we should be giving.
- 25:56Chris Jones: The faith of discipleship isn't about me, it's about we.
- 26:02Chris Jones: Jesus was about we.
- 26:04Chris Jones: Get uncomfortable, go help, go love.
- 26:09Chris Jones: Thanks guys.
- 26:10Chris Jones: I appreciate you sticking around.
- 26:12Chris Jones: And more than that, I hope you're out there throwing the rock.
- 26:15Chris Jones: And if you still don't know what we're talking about in throwing the rock, episode 48, go listen to it.
- 26:21Chris Jones: And if you have a throw the rock story or scars the speak, I would love to hear from you, and maybe we'll even get you on the show.
