- 0:00Hello. I accounted for traffic in my ETA, but
- 0:05stuff still happened. So what's up? We're back.
- 0:08And also, sorry. I mean, I don't know why I'm
- 0:11apologizing. It's not my fault. Mostly. But I
- 0:15feel like it's a little bit my fault because
- 0:16I keep hoping that it'll stop. And I keep trying
- 0:19to make it stop. And maybe I'm the problem. Maybe
- 0:22it's because I keep trying to do things to make
- 0:26it stop that it keeps happening. Hello, it's
- 0:28me, the abstract concept of entropy. Anyway,
- 0:31what's up? We're starting, it's gonna be rough
- 0:33and then it's gonna get better. Here we go. We're
- 0:36gonna start off with an update on the situation
- 0:38in Iran. We're watching again as a war of information
- 0:41is playing out because there is an internet blackout
- 0:44in Iran after there was a bunch of protests.
- 0:47Late last year protests began mostly around economic
- 0:49conditions and they quickly escalated into essentially
- 0:52anti -government protests. There was a brief
- 0:54glimmer of hope for regime change, but that has
- 0:56not happened, and all we know now is that some
- 0:59number of thousands of people have been killed
- 1:02by the Iranian regime. There's a bunch of different
- 1:04numbers being cited from a bunch of different
- 1:05sources, but it's really hard to get concrete
- 1:08information right now. Again, internet blackout
- 1:10in the region. Which is perfect for everybody
- 1:12who wants to layer on their own veneer over what's
- 1:14going on, but... What's going on is people in
- 1:17Iran tried to do something about the current
- 1:20state of their government, and the government
- 1:22slaughtered thousands of them. The Iranian government
- 1:24is saying that the US and Israel were involved
- 1:26in instigating and arming the uprising. The US
- 1:29and Israel are saying Iran bad because they killed
- 1:32protesters. This is Israel and the US saying
- 1:35that. So it's just all in bad faith, and it just
- 1:40sucks because the people deserve better. Which
- 1:42like, duh, but still true. As of right now, this
- 1:45is basically just still going on. There's limited
- 1:48internet access in the region and they're still
- 1:50using live ammunition against protesters. My
- 1:53heart is with the people and the young Iranians
- 1:55who have lost their lives at the hands of their
- 1:57own government for asking for something better.
- 2:00It's no secret that the government of Iran is
- 2:03not super well loved by its people. And it's
- 2:06also no secret that we had a big hand in that.
- 2:09So I guess it's time to go have a big hand and...
- 2:13fucking up another place with Greenland. Alright,
- 2:15we're gonna briefly go over this. If you want
- 2:18more stuff on Greenland, I posted a video on
- 2:20my YouTube channel yesterday. Check that out.
- 2:23There's actually not a whole lot to say here.
- 2:25I pretty much summed it up in that video, which
- 2:26I can summarize. It's a five -ish minute video,
- 2:28but I can summarize it with, uh, this is dumb,
- 2:31no one wants it, and Trump is a fucking moron
- 2:34whose ego is gonna get us all killed. I think
- 2:36the only thing I want to actually say about the
- 2:38Greenland situation is this. And if you're somehow
- 2:40not aware, The very short version is Donald Trump
- 2:43wants to take over Greenland because ego. And
- 2:47no one seems to know why. The American people
- 2:49don't want this. International leaders are literally
- 2:52texting him saying, I don't know what you're
- 2:54doing here. But this is what I want to say. There's
- 2:56been a lot of people who were in support of Trump
- 2:59because he was the trolling president, right?
- 3:01All of the time that he's saying like, oh, we're
- 3:04going to go after Canada, we're going to go after
- 3:05XYZ, we're going to do all these horrific things.
- 3:08They're like, oh, he's just trolling. Or, oh,
- 3:10this is the art of the deal. More, it was just,
- 3:13oh, ha ha, he's funny, crazy man, and he's shaking
- 3:16things up. Hey. These are people's lives. Ha
- 3:21ha funny trolling man doesn't work with international
- 3:25negotiations. Because international negotiations
- 3:27involve weaponry and nukes. Now, there's a lot
- 3:32of people who have like a black -pilled nihilistic
- 3:34view that are just accelerationists, and they
- 3:36want Trump to just destroy everything and they're
- 3:39fine with just everything going down in flames
- 3:41and like... All that tells me is you're a dangerous
- 3:44person. It tells me that you would rather do
- 3:46nothing and let everyone suffer than try to make
- 3:49the world better through effort. And then usually
- 3:51they're like, oh, well, what are you doing? To
- 3:53fix it. Trying. Trying my best. And unfortunately,
- 3:58even with my best, my president is trying to
- 4:00take over Greenland. Because! But hey, if we
- 4:03can use this to take a few people, grab them
- 4:06by the shoulders and shake them and be like,
- 4:08hey! Do ya get it yet? Maybe that's progress.
- 4:11Slow progress. Annoyingly slow progress. Painfully.
- 4:16Disastrously slow in some cases. But non -zero.
- 4:18As opposed to throwing the car in hyper reverse
- 4:21off a cliff like we're doing right now. Moving
- 4:24on. We're gonna shift away from politics into
- 4:27tech and also geopolitics. Stick with me. Did
- 4:30you forget about the Apple Vision Pro? Apple
- 4:32probably wanted you to. The Apple Vision Pro.
- 4:34It came out some time ago. And... oops. It's
- 4:39Apple's mixed reality headset. You put it on,
- 4:41you'll look like a stupid idiot, and then it
- 4:44also makes your eyes appear through the screen.
- 4:46In reality, it's a very fancy VR headset, right?
- 4:50It is undeniably a top -of -the -line, impressive
- 4:53piece of technology that costs $3 ,500 and has,
- 4:59as Apple boasts, 3 ,000 apps designed for it.
- 5:03Great! So no joke, Apple actually updated the
- 5:06Vision Pro recently. Like, they put a new chip
- 5:08in it and released a new version of it. And then
- 5:11they cut their advertising by 95 % and halted
- 5:14production. As of right now, I don't really know
- 5:16what the future of the Vision Pro is, but, um,
- 5:19god damn! Now, the Apple Vision Pro was supposed
- 5:22to be Apple's, like, 3D spatial computing thing.
- 5:25They wanted to really break in to the spatial
- 5:28computing space. And, like, okay, okay. Sure,
- 5:32I will grant that 3d mapped computing is a thing
- 5:36that I can see having use cases totally absolutely
- 5:39valid makes sense You could probably do some
- 5:41really cool stuff with it. Is that really? Consumer
- 5:44software that's like ready for the market right
- 5:47now and sure like early adopters and stuff. It
- 5:49was an early adopter product. Sure Okay, there's
- 5:51also like no conceivable way that Apple's rolling
- 5:55out an update to it. That's not this giant piece
- 5:59of hardware strapped to your face. Is this the
- 6:01end for the Vision Pro and for Apple? No, no,
- 6:04no. No. I don't think this is the end of the
- 6:06Apple Vision line, I don't think it's the end
- 6:08of the Apple Vision Pro, and Apple's gonna be
- 6:10just fine. I think the most likely thing that's
- 6:12gonna happen is we will see like an Apple Vision
- 6:15Air eventually. That's gonna be more of a glasses
- 6:17thing rather than a headset, and they're gonna
- 6:20go for it that way. But Apple recently just overhauled
- 6:24all of their UIs to mimic the Vision Pro operating
- 6:28system. That's what liquid glass is. If you have
- 6:30an iPhone or a Mac and you updated recently and
- 6:32you're like, what the fuck is this? That's because
- 6:35of the Vision Pro. So Apple's really going all
- 6:37in on this. We shall see. But until then, we'll
- 6:40just be in this reality, where there's like homeless
- 6:44people that we have to look at. But soon, imagine
- 6:47the utopia when we can just put on our Apple
- 6:50Vision Airs and walk down the street and it'll
- 6:53just automatically block out all those gross
- 6:56Poor people. 3 ,500 bucks, by the way. Alright,
- 6:59let's talk about Twitter. Everyone's favorite
- 7:01deep fake porn website, Twitter. This played
- 7:03out over the past few weeks, and I've been wanting
- 7:05to talk about it, but a couple of other things
- 7:07also happened. So, I'm finally gonna talk about
- 7:10this. On Twitter, Grok, Elon Musk's AI, got a
- 7:14new superpower in which people could just be
- 7:16like, hey, remix this image of another user to
- 7:19show them in a compromising position wearing
- 7:22a see -through bikini. This obviously led to
- 7:24a bunch of people being like, hey, what the fuck?
- 7:26Hey, don't do that. It's using a feature that
- 7:28basically lets anybody take an image on Twitter
- 7:30and run it through, like, an image modifier thing.
- 7:34Including art, but also, of course, including
- 7:36anyone's pictures of themselves. Of anyone. Of
- 7:40any age. Obviously, that's a problem. But also,
- 7:44also, obviously... It's not the only place that
- 7:46you can do this. Like, you don't need to be on
- 7:48Twitter to use this functionality. You can use
- 7:51any number of other AIs. But the problem here,
- 7:54beyond that being a thing, is that here comes
- 7:57Twitter, a privately -owned for -profit company
- 7:59that has essentially a service that is allowing
- 8:03people to undress minors for profit. Uh, and,
- 8:07uh, but don't worry, it's okay, because they
- 8:08solved the problem. They took a crack at fixing
- 8:11it by putting that functionality behind a paywall.
- 8:14They made it so that only paying blue checkmark
- 8:16accounts could use the functionality that was
- 8:19able to do that. They didn't stop it. They just
- 8:22said, pay us money if you want to do that. That'll
- 8:25fix it. Eventually they turned it off and said
- 8:27that they're gonna fix it. I have my doubts.
- 8:30The only reason that they actually did anything
- 8:32was because there was growing international outrage,
- 8:35basically being like, you can't keep doing bullshit
- 8:38like this and expects to operate in our locality.
- 8:42And Twitter's already being fined by the EU for
- 8:44other shit, and they're already throwing a hissy
- 8:45fit over that, so this is just adding to that
- 8:48fire. But there's something about having your
- 8:51robot generate scantily clad children that makes
- 8:55it a little harder to defend than Muffree's Peach.
- 8:58Far be it from me to victim blame, and the people
- 9:00who had this done to them deserve compensation,
- 9:03frankly. And also, I really want to make this
- 9:06clear. Get off of Twitter. I'm not exaggerating
- 9:09when I'm saying it's a Nazi bar. It is not your
- 9:12fault that this website that you used for a long
- 9:15time was taken over by a crazy person who then
- 9:18seeded it with his crazy followers who want to
- 9:21undress children with a chat bot. But that is
- 9:23the reality of where we are. And so if you're
- 9:25an artist, if you're a femme -presenting person,
- 9:29if you're a human being with a soul, it's a dangerous
- 9:31place to have an account right now. It's been
- 9:33years of this. Please, at least begin trying
- 9:37to find another place to go to host your stuff
- 9:39or post things online. It's not gonna get better.
- 9:42One of the first things that Musk did when he
- 9:43took over was get rid of the trust and safety
- 9:46team. This is a quote from the former head of
- 9:48trust and safety at Twitter after they were yeeted
- 9:50out by Elon Musk. Quote, And that's a terrifying
- 10:00prospect to have to come to terms with, especially
- 10:03for many people who have spent the better part
- 10:04of a decade building a platform and an audience
- 10:07and a community on Twitter. Okay, but that is
- 10:10enough about Elon Musk and his AI and all that
- 10:13bullshit. Let's talk about Elon Musk and his
- 10:15AI and all that bullshit. You may recall there's
- 10:18a massive data center called Colossus in Memphis.
- 10:21That is XAI's data center where they run Grok.
- 10:24Or, well, among other things, it's their flagship
- 10:26data center. This giant data center is in a former
- 10:29Electrolux facility and it's powered with enough
- 10:32energy to power a city. Where do they get all
- 10:35that power? Oh, just a handful of methane turbines
- 10:38that they're running on premises constantly.
- 10:41Elon Musk, that guy that's gonna save us with
- 10:43the electric cars, yeah. Methane gas turbines
- 10:46to power his giant data center to power an AI
- 10:49that can undress children. Now, these turbines
- 10:52have been polluting the air and poisoning the
- 10:54community for years, and activists have been
- 10:56pushing back against this. This is not a news
- 10:58story. But because we live in this country, we've
- 11:01got a corporate entity that is flagrantly just
- 11:04violating environmental laws, poisoning people,
- 11:08but oh, it's okay because... economy. Now look,
- 11:12XAI was not the first company to come in and
- 11:15start dumping toxic waste into the Memphis area.
- 11:19It was the 18th company to open up to be doing
- 11:22that right now. But it's also one of the biggest
- 11:26contributors. So what happened? Well, there was
- 11:29actually a pretty good win for the activists.
- 11:31The EPA has ruled that Elon Musk's XAI must have
- 11:35permits for all of the turbines that they are
- 11:37using. Now, they did apply for some permits for
- 11:41temporary turbines, 15 of them, 15 temporary
- 11:44turbine permits, with which they used to operate
- 11:47more than 30. temporary, meant they just had
- 11:51to move its physical location once every 364
- 11:54days. So ultimately, like, the EPA didn't make
- 11:57a ruling that says XAI did crimes, but the EPA
- 12:00made a ruling specifically about the crimes that
- 12:02XAI is doing. I'm just gonna gesture broadly
- 12:05to the reality we live in currently. I don't
- 12:08know how this is gonna be enforced, if at all,
- 12:10for a while, but it's something. This was the
- 12:13result of a bunch of non -stop work from black
- 12:15activists in the region, and I want to read a
- 12:17quote from Kashawn Pearson, who is one of the
- 12:20activists that has been very loud about this.
- 12:25Quote, We know exploitation because in this same
- 12:40exact area, there are 17 toxic release facilities.
- 12:44Over 90 % of particular matter in the air in
- 12:47all of our county is in southwest Memphis. And
- 12:50guess where there isn't an air monitor for pollution.
- 12:53Now, here's a fun little nugget that I discovered
- 12:56while researching this. Data center project cancellations
- 12:59have quadrupled in 2025. with 21 of the 25 cancelled
- 13:04projects happening in the second half of 2025.
- 13:07Some of that is because there's an increase in
- 13:10demand for data centers, but those cancellations
- 13:13can't happen unless the people in those areas
- 13:16are standing up against them. And boy howdy,
- 13:19are they standing up. People are mad about this,
- 13:22and things are happening. Data centers are being
- 13:25stopped. Not everywhere, not every time, but
- 13:28I really want to point out... that people are
- 13:31actually pushing back on this with success. Lightning
- 13:34round! After a failed attempt at making a Jon
- 13:36Snow spinoff from Game of Thrones, HBO is now
- 13:39going to do an Arya Stark spinoff from Game of
- 13:42Thrones. This is because new ideas are boring.
- 13:45TikTok is soon going to start trying to identify
- 13:47users in the EU under the age of 13 by scanning
- 13:51their profiles with an AI. OpenAI is going to
- 13:54start rolling out ads in chat GPT responses for
- 13:57some users. And finally for today, Meet Veronica,
- 14:01a cow who uses tools to scratch her back. She's
- 14:04an absolute fucking queen, and she's got scientists
- 14:07baffled as to just how clever a clever cow could
- 14:11be. Thank you so much for listening to today's
- 14:13episode of Stuff Keeps Happening. Head to SKH
- 14:15.News for sources, bonus content, and instructions
- 14:19on how to be a clever cow. My name is Endeavour,
- 14:23and we'll talk again soon. Take care, and be
- 14:26well.
