Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: What's going on? Everyone, Emily A body here. You're listening
- 0:21Speaker 1: to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. I write about what's
- 0:26Speaker 1: happening in the Weekly Hurdle newsletter this week.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It came out this morning, every single Friday.
- 0:31Speaker 1: If you don't get it just yet, the link to
- 0:33Speaker 1: subscribe is in the show notes. But coming back from
- 0:37Speaker 1: Los Angeles, waking up in the morning has been hella
- 0:40Speaker 1: difficult for me.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Period.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Every day for the last three days, my alarm has
- 0:45Speaker 1: gone off at seven am and getting up feels absolutely impossible.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Now it makes me have an appreciation for all of
- 0:54Speaker 1: the people that are in my dms that say that
- 0:56Speaker 1: they feel as though it is impossible for them to
- 0:58Speaker 1: be a morning Now, if you are one of those people,
- 1:01Speaker 1: again in the Weekly Hurdle, I've got tips on how
- 1:04Speaker 1: you may be able to make it a habit, so
- 1:07Speaker 1: check that out. But what I'm here to talk about
- 1:09Speaker 1: today is how I have been accommodating the fact that
- 1:13Speaker 1: my body is craving later mornings.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Some of you here seven am and you're like, that's
- 1:19Speaker 1: still hella early, and that's cool. But for me, as
- 1:22Speaker 1: someone who typically wakes up without an alarm between five
- 1:24Speaker 1: thirty and six. Waking up at seven drastically changes my
- 1:28Speaker 1: morning routine. But here's the thing. I refuse to be
- 1:32Speaker 1: stressed in the morning. It's just not how I want
- 1:34Speaker 1: to start my day. And so as much as I
- 1:37Speaker 1: love hitting the gym first thing after the coffee and
- 1:41Speaker 1: the journaling and the meditation and whatnot, I am craving
- 1:45Speaker 1: this week a slower way to start the day, and
- 1:48Speaker 1: so as a result, I have been hitting the gym
- 1:51Speaker 1: in the middle of the day. Today I did a
- 1:54Speaker 1: strength workout using my Future app. To learn more about
- 1:57Speaker 1: the Future app links in the show notes, you can
- 1:59Speaker 1: get a month absolutely free.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Think of it as a personal trainer in your pocket.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And seriously, this week, it makes me so grateful that
- 2:07Speaker 1: I know exactly what I want to do when I
- 2:10Speaker 1: want to show up. I digress. I've been working out
- 2:12Speaker 1: in the middle of the week future app today. Yesterday
- 2:15Speaker 1: I did a peloton workout. The day before I use
- 2:18Speaker 1: the Future app again and it has literally been a
- 2:22Speaker 1: meeting that I set with myself. Now I hear we
- 2:26Speaker 1: hear it all the time, right like mark it out
- 2:28Speaker 1: in your calendar. It makes it easier, but more so
- 2:31Speaker 1: than ever when I'm doing this movement in the middle
- 2:34Speaker 1: of the day. It truly feels like I only have
- 2:38Speaker 1: this X amount of time calendar block right And it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: been an interesting experiment. It's been something that I look
- 2:44Speaker 1: forward to in the middle of the day. I work
- 2:47Speaker 1: from home, and so for me to go down to
- 2:50Speaker 1: the gym in the same building, come back upstairs, maybe
- 2:53Speaker 1: rintse off really quick. I give myself a calendar block
- 2:57Speaker 1: that's about ten to fifteen minutes longer than the workout itself,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and then I get to it and that's it. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: so it feels super simple to say this, but when
- 3:07Speaker 1: you want something bad enough, when you know what your
- 3:09Speaker 1: why is, then you will make it a priority. And
- 3:13Speaker 1: for me, I know how I feel when I move
- 3:15Speaker 1: my body. I know that it makes me feel like
- 3:17Speaker 1: a better me. And to be real, I'm proud of
- 3:20Speaker 1: the fact that I'm figuring out a way to make
- 3:22Speaker 1: movement work for me instead of feeling like a slave
- 3:26Speaker 1: to the movement, if that makes sense. So I'm curious,
- 3:30Speaker 1: my listener prompt for you this week, what is going
- 3:32Speaker 1: on in your life? What's a habit right now that
- 3:36Speaker 1: you have in your routine that you feel like is
- 3:38Speaker 1: something you should be doing and not something you're doing
- 3:41Speaker 1: because you really enjoy it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: And is there a way to switch that up?
- 3:45Speaker 1: What is a habit in your routine right now that
- 3:48Speaker 1: you just do because you feel like you should be
- 3:50Speaker 1: doing it? And is there something more enjoyable that can
- 3:53Speaker 1: bring you more fulfillment, that feels more in line with
- 3:57Speaker 1: your values that you can bring into the mix. And
- 4:01Speaker 1: now a listener question.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Hi, Emily, It's Heather from Cincinnati, Ohio. First, I'm glad
- 4:08Speaker 3: that everybody agrees with me that Five Minute Friday are
- 4:11Speaker 3: amazing and hopefully we can help keep them going with
- 4:15Speaker 3: these questions. My staff know on Fridays I will walk
- 4:19Speaker 3: in with my tidbit of advice or thought for us
- 4:23Speaker 3: traveling into the weekend after listening to five Minute Friday. Anyways,
- 4:28Speaker 3: I my question is about the difference between therapist and
- 4:33Speaker 3: life coach. You have talked about using both to help
- 4:37Speaker 3: you and I had a wonderful therapist. She understood my backstory,
- 4:42Speaker 3: we got along great. She moved away, and I'm looking
- 4:45Speaker 3: to kind of restart, but now contemplating a life coach
- 4:49Speaker 3: since I also am looking at some restructuring. Our big
- 4:52Speaker 3: steps in my personal and professional Life Again, Thank you
- 4:56Speaker 3: for your content.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Heather, what's up?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Thanks so much for calling in, and thanks so much
- 5:01Speaker 1: for telling me how much you love Five Minute Friday.
- 5:03Speaker 1: If you are listening to this and you also love
- 5:05Speaker 1: five Minute Friday, follow Heather's lead and send me a
- 5:09Speaker 1: voice message. Ask me a question to feature in an
- 5:11Speaker 1: upcoming episode. I'd love to answer it on the podcast.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And if for some reason it's been a little wonky lately,
- 5:19Speaker 1: not my fault. If you have an issue leaving a
- 5:21Speaker 1: voice message using the link in the show notes, you
- 5:23Speaker 1: can always message me a voice recording from your phone
- 5:27Speaker 1: via email over at Hello at Hurdle dot us. Now
- 5:30Speaker 1: to answer your question the difference between a life coach
- 5:34Speaker 1: and a therapist.
- 5:35Speaker 2: This is a popular question.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So therapy is a long term process in which a
- 5:41Speaker 1: client works with a healthcare professional to diagnose and resolve
- 5:44Speaker 1: problematic behaviors and feelings. Again, they work with you to
- 5:48Speaker 1: diagnose and resolve problematic behaviors and feelings. So, rather than
- 5:54Speaker 1: focusing on external circumstances, therapy looks inward and towards the
- 5:58Speaker 1: path to analyze the root cause of a client's biggest
- 6:01Speaker 1: challenges in the hope of creating a happier, more stable future. Now,
- 6:05Speaker 1: when it comes to life coaching, life coaches work with
- 6:09Speaker 1: clients to create a vision for their optimal future and
- 6:12Speaker 1: how to make that vision a reality. So think of
- 6:16Speaker 1: a life coach as someone who's really aimed at getting
- 6:19Speaker 1: you to where you want to be. A life coach
- 6:21Speaker 1: would work together with a client to identify personal and
- 6:24Speaker 1: professional goals, the obstacles standing in their way, and then
- 6:28Speaker 1: create an action plan to achieve their desired outcomes. Now,
- 6:33Speaker 1: where therapy and counseling focus primarily on the past and present,
- 6:38Speaker 1: life coaching again, it focuses almost entirely on the present
- 6:42Speaker 1: and future, and those are the biggest differences between life
- 6:45Speaker 1: coaching and therapy. It sounds like hoether you have a
- 6:49Speaker 1: lot of big changes coming up in your life, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: if you've worked extensively with a therapist, it might be beneficial
- 6:54Speaker 1: for you to try mixing it up and working with
- 6:56Speaker 1: a life coach, but you won't know until you try. Remember,
- 7:00Speaker 1: whether it's a therapist or a life coach, you have
- 7:02Speaker 1: the opportunity to quote unquote date around. You have no
- 7:06Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely no requirement to stick with someone after a
- 7:11Speaker 1: first consultation, So find the person that feels right for you.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That's the most important thing. Make sure you're following along
- 7:18Speaker 1: with hurdle over on social adhurdle podcast I am over
- 7:21Speaker 1: at Emily a body and a heads up. And next
- 7:24Speaker 1: week we are on a season break, but we will
- 7:27Speaker 1: be coming back in hot a sap. See you on
- 7:32Speaker 1: April third, another hurdle concord. Catch you guys next time.
