- 0:14Speaker 1: The fun thing about a Saturday like we had yesterday
- 0:17Speaker 1: is there's so many different things that happen. There's so
- 0:19Speaker 1: many different angles you could go with. None of them
- 0:22Speaker 1: are really wrong, but I was just looking over this
- 0:24Speaker 1: 30 seconds ago. It was a bad Saturday for college
- 0:28Speaker 1: football home field advantage truthers. It really was. It's Sunday night,
- 0:32Speaker 1: October 11th. The year of our Lord, 2026, we're jam-packed.
- 0:36Speaker 1: High atop a lovely downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Yeah, UCLA sort
- 0:41Speaker 1: of dispelled the myth of Autzen. And then Georgia goes
- 0:44Speaker 1: into Bryant-Denny and turns the volume down there. And then
- 0:48Speaker 1: USC mutes the whiteout. And Indiana, against all odds, comes
- 0:53Speaker 1: from behind in the fourth quarter in Lincoln, Nebraska. What
- 0:56Speaker 1: a week six we had. That's college football. That's a Saturday.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's not some random sterile environment in early January. AP
- 1:05Speaker 1: polls out. Got a lot to say about that. Officiating
- 1:09Speaker 1: is back. Have a lot to say about that, as
- 1:11Speaker 1: do many of you. Jesse, I don't know where he went,
- 1:14Speaker 1: so I just have a direct line of sight to Mitch.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And so we're making a lot of uncomfortable eye contact
- 1:18Speaker 1: right now. Good win against Hawaii last night, by the way.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The Week 7 Tour announcement is coming up. We are
- 1:24Speaker 1: headed somewhere for the first time ever. And they are
- 1:26Speaker 1: watching us in Roanoke, Virginia. They're watching us in Clayton, Georgia, Sacramento, California, Houston, Texas.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I am so excited because we finally got our live
- 1:34Speaker 1: subscriber count metric meter, whatever we call that thing, up
- 1:38Speaker 1: and running. We're at 579,901 subs on this channel, which
- 1:44Speaker 1: means we're knocking on the door of 580,000 subs, which
- 1:46Speaker 1: means we're kind of sort of flirting with 600,000 subs. Many,
- 1:51Speaker 1: many thousand of you are watching right now. If you're
- 1:53Speaker 1: not subscribed, just click the button, mainly so we can
- 1:55Speaker 1: see the number go. You remember when that happened one
- 1:57Speaker 1: time we did this, Jesse? Crazy. I appreciate you guys, sincerely.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Who knows what'll happen when we hit 600K, but please
- 2:05Speaker 1: subscribe if you haven't already done so and like the video.
- 2:08Speaker 1: We were in Tuscaloosa last night for a borderline five
- 2:11Speaker 1: chow lie classic. It got 4.5 chow lie on the
- 2:16Speaker 1: one to five scale. Georgia 20, Alabama 17. Heavyweight prize fight.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I don't know what the numbers are. Who knows? Maybe
- 2:24Speaker 1: a billion people watched this. If not, it had to
- 2:26Speaker 1: be like really close. What else could you have possibly
- 2:29Speaker 1: been doing with your Saturday night other than watching just
- 2:32Speaker 1: a great regular season college football game, I think the
- 2:36Speaker 1: highest respect you can have for a college football program
- 2:40Speaker 1: is just freely admitting that you as an outsider take
- 2:44Speaker 1: for granted that they'll do the hardest things that there
- 2:47Speaker 1: are to do. And I was talking to Scott Sinclair,
- 2:50Speaker 1: who's the Georgia strength and conditioning coach, before the game
- 2:52Speaker 1: last night, and I said, you can't afford to think this.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Kirby can't afford to think this. Nobody with your program
- 2:59Speaker 1: can afford to think this, but I can. I take
- 3:03Speaker 1: for granted that you guys will always be among, if
- 3:06Speaker 1: not the most physical teams in the country. I take
- 3:08Speaker 1: for granted that you'll be among, if not the most
- 3:11Speaker 1: prepared teams in the country. Just all the tangible and
- 3:14Speaker 1: intangibles that it takes to win, the mental toughness piece,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the fortitude it takes to go on the road and
- 3:21Speaker 1: play in these kinds of places and do what they
- 3:23Speaker 1: do regularly. I just take it for granted with Georgia.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You've been able to say that about a small handful
- 3:30Speaker 1: of programs in your life at any given point. And
- 3:33Speaker 1: they're one of them. And Kirby talked about sort of
- 3:36Speaker 1: the state of their program. He was really introspective in
- 3:39Speaker 1: his post-game comments last night, by the way. You just
- 3:44Speaker 1: take it for granted with them. And that kind of
- 3:46Speaker 1: bled into how I viewed this game. You know, There
- 3:50Speaker 1: are a lot of questions, as you have in any game.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It's the beauty of playing the game. You play the
- 3:54Speaker 1: game to answer questions and to find out who's better
- 3:57Speaker 1: and determine a winner and all that. But I wondered,
- 4:00Speaker 1: as I'd watched Keelan Russell this whole season so far,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and I'd watched him have time to throw, quite simply,
- 4:06Speaker 1: will he have time to throw against Georgia? And we
- 4:09Speaker 1: went over last week a lot of the pressure rate
- 4:11Speaker 1: numbers and the havoc rate numbers, and Georgia wasn't even
- 4:14Speaker 1: top half in the country. in some of those statistics.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But yet you also knew there's a lot of design
- 4:19Speaker 1: behind the way they do things and the why behind
- 4:23Speaker 1: how they do things. And you know, like if Georgia,
- 4:25Speaker 1: if Glenn Shuman, Kirby Smart, and that kind of talent
- 4:28Speaker 1: profile goes into a game knowing they got to dial
- 4:30Speaker 1: a guy up and heat a guy up, they're going
- 4:32Speaker 1: to do whatever it takes to heat a guy up.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And they put some heat on Keelan Russell, and he
- 4:38Speaker 1: didn't have clean pockets to throw in all night. Now,
- 4:40Speaker 1: he still had an okay night, but they scaled their
- 4:43Speaker 1: pressure numbers to the point where their guy was able
- 4:47Speaker 1: to settle in Bama didn't get a ton of pressure
- 4:49Speaker 1: on Gunnar Stockton Georgia got pressure on Keelan Russell so
- 4:52Speaker 1: that was question number one answered in the affirmative for
- 4:55Speaker 1: Georgia and then the other thing was we come into
- 4:58Speaker 1: this game Alabama on this stuff right here has the
- 5:02Speaker 1: number 10 run defense in the country and you wondered
- 5:05Speaker 1: if Georgia really commits to running the ball which they
- 5:07Speaker 1: always do how much will that hold up 29 carries
- 5:11Speaker 1: for 206 yards 5.3 per carry It didn't. They gashed him. Now,
- 5:18Speaker 1: I will say, I know the headline sort of coming
- 5:22Speaker 1: out of that was, wow, man, Georgia's third string running
- 5:24Speaker 1: back did this. Technically, that's true. Georgia and BAM are
- 5:29Speaker 1: kind of similar in that there are guys down the
- 5:32Speaker 1: depth chart a little ways that are actually the most
- 5:34Speaker 1: talented members of those running back rooms. Crowell is that
- 5:38Speaker 1: for Alabama. And I thought going into the game, Dwight
- 5:41Speaker 1: Phillips was that. Now the difference is they've kind of
- 5:44Speaker 1: showcased him in a little flashier manner than maybe the
- 5:47Speaker 1: other guys that you didn't see yesterday. Dwight Phillips can
- 5:50Speaker 1: run it between the tackles for you and do just fine,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and he did last night. He had 17 carries for
- 5:55Speaker 1: 120 yards. So yes, Georgia was down two tailbacks. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: don't think they were very nervous at all putting that
- 6:03Speaker 1: guy on the field, nor would Alabama be nervous or
- 6:06Speaker 1: Bama fans be nervous if you found out Idre Crowell,
- 6:09Speaker 1: he's got to carry the ball 20 times tonight. In fact,
- 6:11Speaker 1: some of them would prefer that. If I'm a Georgia fan,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I wanted to see Phillips get 17 carries. I'd love
- 6:16Speaker 1: to see what he can do. And then Bo Walker
- 6:18Speaker 1: adds in. Gunnar Stockton is obviously a factor with his legs.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But the third question, Jesse, there were so many questions.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That's the nature of early season college football was, well,
- 6:29Speaker 1: what's going to happen at wide receiver for Georgia? You know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: Alabama's got Ryan Williams. They got Lottie Brooks. They got
- 6:35Speaker 1: all these dudes. Who does Georgia have? And we talked
- 6:37Speaker 1: about the Vanderbilt game, which was two weeks ago, and
- 6:40Speaker 1: how they had, what was it, eight different guys have
- 6:43Speaker 1: two or more receptions. So they had been spreading the
- 6:46Speaker 1: love around the wide receiver room. Tailbacks had been pretty
- 6:49Speaker 1: effective out of the backfield too. They had four different
- 6:51Speaker 1: pass catchers over 40 yards last night. No one guy
- 6:55Speaker 1: jumped off the stat sheet. But what was happening on
- 6:58Speaker 1: third down? When they needed to make a play, you
- 7:01Speaker 1: had one guy that was the trigger man. He's going
- 7:03Speaker 1: to be on the field every play. And you had
- 7:05Speaker 1: him just distributing. which is the beautiful thing, because a
- 7:09Speaker 1: lot of times when you have quarterbacks who are top
- 7:11Speaker 1: five in the country, when you have Julian Sayen, Jeremiah
- 7:15Speaker 1: Smith's out there. When you got Keelan Russell, Ryan Williams
- 7:18Speaker 1: is out there. Gunnar Stockton, it's whoever happens to be
- 7:22Speaker 1: out there, and he's going to take advantage because he's
- 7:25Speaker 1: a surgeon. And he was surgical last night. I don't
- 7:28Speaker 1: really know what else to say. I'm so conflicted. When
- 7:30Speaker 1: we were coming home, I was so conflicted because you're
- 7:33Speaker 1: walking out of the stadium and You run into Georgia
- 7:36Speaker 1: fans and Bama fans. You run into Georgia media, Alabama media.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You run into all different sorts of people who are
- 7:42Speaker 1: just kind of vomiting out everything they think about what
- 7:46Speaker 1: they just saw. And a lot of it was about
- 7:49Speaker 1: the officiating, and I'll talk about that in a second.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And later in the show, too. But I was so
- 7:54Speaker 1: conflicted in how I came away thinking about the game
- 7:56Speaker 1: because on one hand, it's very rare... to watch a
- 8:01Speaker 1: team do what Georgia did, and that is fumble the
- 8:03Speaker 1: ball four times and recover all four of them. It's
- 8:06Speaker 1: really rare to see a game where the officiating seems
- 8:10Speaker 1: that tilted towards one side. I say that's rare. I
- 8:13Speaker 1: don't focus on that stuff all that much. But even
- 8:15Speaker 1: I walked away last night saying, man, I feel like
- 8:17Speaker 1: Bama got railed from an officiating standpoint in this game.
- 8:21Speaker 1: The reason I say I feel conflicted is because I
- 8:24Speaker 1: saw all that stuff happen, and like history says, if
- 8:28Speaker 1: this game were played again, Georgia probably doesn't recover four fumbles,
- 8:32Speaker 1: or the officiating's probably not that heavily tilted, and yet
- 8:35Speaker 1: I still felt like I watched the definitively better team
- 8:38Speaker 1: win the game. So that's the conflict. Because I watched
- 8:42Speaker 1: Georgia just own a line of scrimmage. I watched their
- 8:45Speaker 1: offensive line and their quarterback, especially on third down, be
- 8:48Speaker 1: the difference. Gunnar Stockton was 9 of 10 on third down.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I just watched... a more competitively mature team win the game.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And I don't know, man. Maybe if they played it again,
- 9:01Speaker 1: maybe they will play again down the road. And maybe Bama,
- 9:04Speaker 1: you know, they're a young team. Maybe they mature, and
- 9:06Speaker 1: maybe they even out those criticals, and maybe they win
- 9:08Speaker 1: the game. Who knows? It happened last year with these
- 9:10Speaker 1: two teams. Maybe it'll happen again. I walked away from
- 9:13Speaker 1: last night thinking, Georgia's where they need to be, and
- 9:15Speaker 1: Bama's got a little ways to go before they're where
- 9:17Speaker 1: they need to be. And the officiating piece baked into that.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And the bounce of ball fortune baked into that. I
- 9:25Speaker 1: I was shocked Georgia only had 20 on the board,
- 9:27Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. I felt like the performance that
- 9:30Speaker 1: they put on the field last night was like a
- 9:32Speaker 1: 31 to 34 point type performance. So I feel like
- 9:37Speaker 1: Georgia may have left a little bit out there as well.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Certainly Alabama did. I don't ever question play calling on
- 9:43Speaker 1: this show. People get so mad because it's like, you
- 9:46Speaker 1: never question coaches. I know, they're smarter than me. They
- 9:49Speaker 1: know more about what they're doing than me. So I
- 9:50Speaker 1: tend to shy away from it. Also, if I was
- 9:53Speaker 1: a coach myself, I still would have only limited knowledge
- 9:58Speaker 1: to go on because I don't know what you call it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I don't know what you saw. I don't know what
- 10:02Speaker 1: your keys in your prep were. But I will say
- 10:05Speaker 1: watching Alabama last night, even in real time, I kept
- 10:09Speaker 1: on leaning over to, well, Savannah State was over here
- 10:12Speaker 1: to my right. And then whoever happened to be to
- 10:13Speaker 1: my left, Prez is over there trying to edit social videos.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And I'm like, hey, Prez, what'd you think about what
- 10:18Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb's doing? And Prez is like, who? And I said,
- 10:20Speaker 1: never mind press, keep at it. I had no clue
- 10:23Speaker 1: what Alabama was doing from a play calling perspective. Jesse,
- 10:27Speaker 1: how many times have you ever heard me question play calling?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Let me say this. Let me question the philosophy behind
- 10:33Speaker 1: the play calling, not play calls themselves. All right, how
- 10:35Speaker 1: about that? So Alabama had six drives end in Georgia
- 10:39Speaker 1: Territory with zero points last night. They had another three
- 10:43Speaker 1: that they scored on. But there were six different drives
- 10:46Speaker 1: that ended in Georgia Territory with no points last night.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And Bama's longest pass through the air was 23 yards.
- 10:53Speaker 1: So that was the kind of game that unfolded. So
- 10:57Speaker 1: it was very, very clear. Part of that's by design.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Part of the reason you started to have standard run
- 11:02Speaker 1: success on Georgia was because they played to avoid getting
- 11:07Speaker 1: completely and utterly eviscerated through the air. Because you've got
- 11:11Speaker 1: a supremely talented quarterback who can do that. And I
- 11:14Speaker 1: would imagine, I mean, if you ask Kirby Smart, Keelan Russell,
- 11:17Speaker 1: 41 yards rushing on you. He's going to break some plays.
- 11:20Speaker 1: He's going to break some contain, but what he's not
- 11:23Speaker 1: going to have is he's not going to have the
- 11:25Speaker 1: game-breaking catbuster type passes. Will you take that? I'm sure
- 11:29Speaker 1: they'd take it. Georgia felt like they did pretty much
- 11:31Speaker 1: what they wanted to defensively or got what they wanted
- 11:34Speaker 1: to defensively last night. My point is I thought Bama
- 11:37Speaker 1: played into it a whole lot. The thing about your
- 11:39Speaker 1: enemy is when he's playing into your hands, shut up.
- 11:42Speaker 1: and let him keep playing into your hands. I really
- 11:44Speaker 1: felt like Alabama did that a lot last night. So
- 11:46Speaker 1: think about the dynamics here. You're not going to beat
- 11:48Speaker 1: them over the top. They've sort of dictated that defensively.
- 11:54Speaker 1: The case last year was Alabama couldn't run the ball,
- 11:57Speaker 1: constantly tackled behind the line of scrimmage on standard runs.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Last night, we went and looked at I don't remember
- 12:04Speaker 1: more than once or twice, if that, where a tailback
- 12:07Speaker 1: was tackled behind the line of scrimmage. They consistently got push.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Credit to the offensive line. Credit to the tailbacks. Consistently
- 12:14Speaker 1: got push. The runs that would have been negative two,
- 12:19Speaker 1: negative one, zero last year were six, five, seven, four.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You can live with that stuff. You should lean on
- 12:26Speaker 1: it is the point. Lean on it to the point
- 12:29Speaker 1: where the other guy's got to adjust something. They counted
- 12:33Speaker 1: on the idea that based on your tendencies, you're not
- 12:37Speaker 1: going to commit to this. And guess what? They didn't
- 12:40Speaker 1: commit to it. And as a result, Alabama got put
- 12:44Speaker 1: in a lot of very, very unfavorable positions and Georgia
- 12:47Speaker 1: didn't nearly as much. So that kind of puzzled me
- 12:52Speaker 1: a little bit. What didn't puzzle me was the overall
- 12:55Speaker 1: way the game felt. So this is the kind of
- 12:57Speaker 1: game that goes either way. Credit to Georgia for winning
- 13:00Speaker 1: the game. But the way it felt is kind of
- 13:04Speaker 1: what I want to talk about for a second. How
- 13:05Speaker 1: did it feel at home? I was standing there on
- 13:07Speaker 1: the field. You guys are either in the stadium or
- 13:10Speaker 1: you're watching at home. Some of you are Georgia fans.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Some of you are Bama fans. Many, many more of
- 13:13Speaker 1: you are just college football fans who wanted to tune in.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It certainly didn't feel like it would have felt in
- 13:18Speaker 1: the four-team era or the BCS era. But did you
- 13:22Speaker 1: feel urgency watching this game? Because I did. Not as
- 13:26Speaker 1: much as you would have back in the day, but
- 13:29Speaker 1: I still felt it. Number one, because it just means
- 13:32Speaker 1: something when those two teams play each other, period. Independent
- 13:35Speaker 1: of any postseason implication at all. That's just pride and performance.
- 13:39Speaker 1: That's tradition and whatnot. The other part is, I felt
- 13:43Speaker 1: like it was a showcase for the 12-team playoff format.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Because it was the perfect balance of urgency, but also
- 13:51Speaker 1: knowing the loser's not out of anything, so they still
- 13:54Speaker 1: have access. No matter who wins or loses this game,
- 13:56Speaker 1: both of them are still going to have access. One
- 13:58Speaker 1: of them's One of them's path's going to narrow a
- 14:01Speaker 1: little bit. That's Alabama now. So they're going to go
- 14:04Speaker 1: on the road in six days to Neyland Stadium. And
- 14:08Speaker 1: they're a banged up team. Everyone's banged up now. So
- 14:11Speaker 1: I'm going to kind of stop saying that. But Alabama's
- 14:13Speaker 1: still got a path. Georgia's in the driver's seat now.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But I kept thinking to myself, what does a 2014
- 14:19Speaker 1: playoff do to this game? I know proponents of a
- 14:23Speaker 1: 2014 playoff say, oh, it's not that game. Both of
- 14:27Speaker 1: those teams are going to make it. It's what it
- 14:28Speaker 1: would do to other games. These right here, these environments,
- 14:33Speaker 1: these spectacle-type environments featuring these kind of teams that are
- 14:37Speaker 1: actually capable of winning a title down the road, I
- 14:39Speaker 1: want to maintain urgency on those games. I want to
- 14:42Speaker 1: maintain that balance on those games. So I'm not going
- 14:44Speaker 1: down that road any further because I'm talking about a
- 14:47Speaker 1: game right now, but I just thought it was such
- 14:50Speaker 1: a perfect showcase game for the 12-team playoff because you
- 14:53Speaker 1: had the perfect balance of both factors that you want
- 14:55Speaker 1: baked in. Got a lot of people watching, by the way.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Thank you. Please subscribe to the channel if you haven't already.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It feels like both sides would kind of welcome a rematch.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Talk to coaches from both sides after the game last night.
- 15:09Speaker 1: George is very, very thrilled to get out of there
- 15:11Speaker 1: with a win and to do what they wanted to
- 15:13Speaker 1: do in many cases. I don't think they needed validation.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think they always knew what they were. I think
- 15:19Speaker 1: maybe they wanted to prove some things to other people,
- 15:23Speaker 1: so certainly did that with me. And so I think
- 15:26Speaker 1: they'd have no problem because I think they look at
- 15:28Speaker 1: it and they say, the things that won tonight would
- 15:30Speaker 1: be there again if we met you two months down
- 15:32Speaker 1: the road in Atlanta. And then on the other side,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I think the Bama folks look at it and think
- 15:37Speaker 1: we left so much out there. There were so many
- 15:39Speaker 1: things that went against us. There were so many things
- 15:42Speaker 1: that are out of our control that went against us,
- 15:43Speaker 1: mechanisms of the game and whatnot that we think would
- 15:47Speaker 1: even out the next time. Not to mention we're a
- 15:49Speaker 1: young team, so we'll continue to mature and The team, theoretically,
- 15:53Speaker 1: that you would meet in December is different than now.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I think both sides feel that way. These are still
- 15:58Speaker 1: the number one and number two teams to win the
- 16:01Speaker 1: SEC championship. The outcome in Dallas yesterday is such that
- 16:06Speaker 1: Texas is now falling down the board a little bit.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Then you've got Ole Miss in there. What an environment, man.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I know that there are a lot of people out
- 16:16Speaker 1: there who were victimized by Alabama for a long time.
- 16:19Speaker 1: There are a lot of people out there who have
- 16:20Speaker 1: now gotten tired of Georgia perennially being on top, but
- 16:23Speaker 1: yet you still tune in, some of you begrudgingly, but
- 16:26Speaker 1: just out of respect for the showcase that this kind
- 16:30Speaker 1: of game is. Really amazing to watch. Really, really high-level
- 16:34Speaker 1: competitive environment. Also, did you see DeBoer last night? A
- 16:37Speaker 1: lot of people had some stupid takeaways, actually, from how
- 16:41Speaker 1: fiery he was on the sideline. I saw some people
- 16:44Speaker 1: I don't think who have ever even gotten fitted for
- 16:46Speaker 1: a jockstrap in their life. have a problem with Dijon
- 16:50Speaker 1: Lee committing physical error after physical error, culminating with a
- 16:56Speaker 1: mental error to cap the game. I won't say that
- 16:59Speaker 1: lost them the game. It cost them a chance to
- 17:01Speaker 1: maybe win the game. And DeBoer jumps down his throat.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't know how else to put this, guys. Number one,
- 17:10Speaker 1: players are paid a lot of money right now. They're
- 17:12Speaker 1: going to get treated like it, whether you like it
- 17:13Speaker 1: or not. Number two, And anyone who's sort of been
- 17:17Speaker 1: around the team environment understands this. If you've got a
- 17:20Speaker 1: mentally fragile team, if you've got an immature team, if
- 17:23Speaker 1: you've got a team you don't trust and there's not
- 17:26Speaker 1: a lot of mutual respect with, you can't do that
- 17:29Speaker 1: as a coach. When you've got the dynamic you want,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you can. Saban did it all the time. Kirby does
- 17:35Speaker 1: it all the time. DeBoer's got a team he actually trusts.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It's actually a really, really mature group. So you can
- 17:42Speaker 1: do that. That's probably what it's like there at practice
- 17:45Speaker 1: all the time. That's what it's like at a Georgia
- 17:47Speaker 1: practice all the time. There is a really, really high
- 17:50Speaker 1: level of accountability that's demanded. And if you get it
- 17:55Speaker 1: in the practice field, no one sees it. That just
- 17:58Speaker 1: so happened to play out in front of a worldwide
- 17:59Speaker 1: audience last night. I saw a lot of former players
- 18:03Speaker 1: look at it and say, good, that's exactly the way
- 18:05Speaker 1: it should play out. I saw a lot of bean
- 18:08Speaker 1: counter types say, you can't let this happen. That's a
- 18:11Speaker 1: terrible look. Buddy, change the channel. Go to bed. Change
- 18:15Speaker 1: the channel. I feel like if I were to have
- 18:19Speaker 1: shown Kalen DeBoer in 2023 at Washington, a flash forward
- 18:27Speaker 1: to what he would look like in a football game
- 18:29Speaker 1: three years down the road, he'd be shocked. just because
- 18:32Speaker 1: of what the pressure of jobs like these and moments
- 18:35Speaker 1: like these end up doing to you, if there was
- 18:38Speaker 1: any question as to whether that dude was going to
- 18:41Speaker 1: fit in, like adjust and settle into the role as
- 18:44Speaker 1: the head coach at Alabama, I think that question is
- 18:47Speaker 1: now complete. I also think the answer to the question
- 18:50Speaker 1: of whether or not there's a definitive number one in
- 18:53Speaker 1: the SEC has now been quieted, too. That's the University
- 18:56Speaker 1: of Georgia. I'd also say that's the best team in
- 18:59Speaker 1: the country. And it's crazy how out of all those teams,
- 19:02Speaker 1: remember the preseason, Jesse, out of all the teams in
- 19:05Speaker 1: the AP that got first place votes, Georgia opens number
- 19:10Speaker 1: three in the country. Zero first place votes. Number one
- 19:14Speaker 1: had them. Number two had them. Number four. Number six.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Number seven. Like all those teams got first place votes.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Little old Georgia. Is that the new little old? Have
- 19:23Speaker 1: they adopted the Clemson mantra? I don't actually think Kirby
- 19:26Speaker 1: would ever traffic in that. But they were their only team.
- 19:29Speaker 1: in that top group that didn't have first place votes.
- 19:31Speaker 1: They got a few this week. So we were there yesterday.
- 19:34Speaker 1: We were in Lincoln, uh, the morning of yesterday, and
- 19:39Speaker 1: that was a great day. Where will we go in
- 19:41Speaker 1: week seven? Bloomington, Indiana is where we're going this weekend.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Never been there for a game. We went there in
- 19:48Speaker 1: the spring and, uh, visited with Kurt Cignetti, sat down
- 19:51Speaker 1: with him, saw them yesterday, and we'll see them in
- 19:54Speaker 1: person this weekend. We will be there Friday and Saturday, actually.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Ohio State at Indiana. They're calling it the biggest game
- 20:02Speaker 1: in the history of that campus. I agree. And so
- 20:06Speaker 1: we are fueled, we are fed by Jimmy Johns, and
- 20:08Speaker 1: we are headed to Ohio State, Indiana. Is that our
- 20:11Speaker 1: second consecutive week with Big Noon Kickoff? Gave Clatt a
- 20:16Speaker 1: bear hug from behind yesterday. It was comfortable. We're like that.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It was fine. No one even batted an eye at it.
- 20:22Speaker 1: The shirts are available, ladies and gentlemen. These are sure
- 20:25Speaker 1: to be collector's items. The Indiana Week 7 Don't Tread
- 20:30Speaker 1: on Saturday themed shirt is available at patesatematerial.com. Also available
- 20:35Speaker 1: at patestatematerial.com, the entire Spooky Saturday line. Those are also
- 20:41Speaker 1: flying off the shelves. Last night, yesterday and last night,
- 20:44Speaker 1: was the first time I have seen our Spooky Saturday
- 20:47Speaker 1: merch out in the wild. And it's great. I've yet
- 20:50Speaker 1: to see an infant wearing one of those Don't Tread
- 20:53Speaker 1: on Saturday Halloween-themed onesies, but I'm sure that's coming pretty soon.
- 21:01Speaker 1: We move on. Two whale breaches in that segment. Only two.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Oklahoma beat Texas yesterday. How? Judging by the halftime score?
- 21:11Speaker 1: I don't know. But they pulled it off. 27-24. This
- 21:15Speaker 1: has got to be a four-challi game. A four-challi Red
- 21:18Speaker 1: River shootout known by no other name on this show.
- 21:21Speaker 1: The reason it's not a five-challi game, despite the fact
- 21:24Speaker 1: that there were some theatrics late in this contest, is
- 21:28Speaker 1: that nine of the first ten drives were three and outs.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So it looked like it was going to be just,
- 21:34Speaker 1: that kind of gave for a little while. And then boom,
- 21:36Speaker 1: you chugged several hundred milligrams of caffeine and quarterback, as
- 21:42Speaker 1: everyone predicted, ended up costing someone this game. But it
- 21:46Speaker 1: wasn't the quarterback that you predicted that would cost the
- 21:50Speaker 1: team that you predicted the game. It was Arch Manning.
- 21:54Speaker 1: John Mateer, no turnovers. I don't know that we've ever
- 21:59Speaker 1: had that as a padlock stat. Just a quarterback didn't
- 22:01Speaker 1: turn the ball over. But man, when you consider the
- 22:03Speaker 1: track record so far this year, unbelievable. So I will admit,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I thought Texas would win this game by double digits.
- 22:10Speaker 1: They looked like they were on their way to for
- 22:11Speaker 1: a little while. I had to see OU do it
- 22:14Speaker 1: to believe it. It's not that I didn't understand the dynamic.
- 22:18Speaker 1: It's not that I didn't understand the potential of this
- 22:21Speaker 1: defense to wreck a game. I get all that. I
- 22:26Speaker 1: just watched them not able to get out of their
- 22:28Speaker 1: own way enough offensively this year. to where I thought, well,
- 22:32Speaker 1: that's no longer an isolated incident. Those are trends. And
- 22:36Speaker 1: I don't care if you've had a bye week, so
- 22:37Speaker 1: has Texas. And I thought, hey, man, maybe even if
- 22:41Speaker 1: Oklahoma patches together something offensively, judging by that logic, Texas
- 22:45Speaker 1: gets two as well. They're both coming out of a
- 22:46Speaker 1: bye week. So there was a very specific environment that
- 22:50Speaker 1: had to exist here. And Oklahoma created it. And if
- 22:54Speaker 1: you want to say Texas helped them, Colin Simmons, be
- 22:57Speaker 1: my guest. But Oklahoma created it. They took advantage of it,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but I got a monitor in here that shows all
- 23:03Speaker 1: the critical stat categories. Y'all might as well zoom in
- 23:06Speaker 1: on the turnover column. That's it. That's what I cared about.
- 23:10Speaker 1: If you told me OU was not turning the ball over,
- 23:13Speaker 1: then I'd know. This could be a dogfight in the
- 23:15Speaker 1: fourth quarter. Avant ran it well enough. It was an
- 23:19Speaker 1: explosive run there like otherwise it wasn't a banner day,
- 23:23Speaker 1: but defense showed up. Special teams showed up. I don't
- 23:26Speaker 1: know what Texas is going to do there, by the way.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Just a pause and a moment, not of silence, but
- 23:32Speaker 1: of golf clap respect for Oklahoma. I don't know what
- 23:35Speaker 1: the rest of this season is going to hold. I
- 23:37Speaker 1: know so far it hasn't been the most thrilling and
- 23:39Speaker 1: fun thing to watch, but they can't take away that
- 23:43Speaker 1: Red River shootout win. You can go 7-5, 6-6, 8-4, whatever.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Every player on that team gets to say until the
- 23:50Speaker 1: end of time, even at our worst, we took down
- 23:54Speaker 1: the number one team in the country, and that happened
- 23:56Speaker 1: to be Texas. Because a win at the Cotton Bowl
- 23:59Speaker 1: and the Red River Shootout, it's an unbelievable thing. You've
- 24:03Speaker 1: got to play six days later. But still, time stands
- 24:06Speaker 1: still for a little while. And that's an unbelievable feel.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Our buddy Freddie and the Germans, they were in Dallas.
- 24:12Speaker 1: That had to be an unbelievable experience. Can you imagine
- 24:15Speaker 1: plucking three tourists from Germany and dropping them into the
- 24:20Speaker 1: Texas State Fair? What kind of vlog would that be?
- 24:24Speaker 1: I mean, hopefully they got a lot of footage yesterday.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Texas fell into the trap, and shame on them for
- 24:30Speaker 1: falling into the trap. When you lead Oklahoma, when you
- 24:33Speaker 1: lead an offensive team that's this bad, 17-7 at halftime,
- 24:37Speaker 1: it should be over. And this should have been over.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I don't care if you have to put people to sleep.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I don't care if you have to play a second
- 24:45Speaker 1: half that is the television equivalent of NyQuil. Do it.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Put them away. I don't care how many ornaments you
- 24:52Speaker 1: think you have in that playbook. It's not working. It
- 24:55Speaker 1: really hasn't worked much of the year. People can't help themselves, man.
- 24:59Speaker 1: They can't help themselves. Don't bother looking at the box
- 25:02Speaker 1: score in this game. It'll just confuse you. Nine Oklahoma
- 25:06Speaker 1: points off two fourth quarter interceptions. Inexcusably bad. McDonough's voice cracked,
- 25:13Speaker 1: partly out of excitement, partly out of just stunned disbelief.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And I watched, where were we? I think we were
- 25:21Speaker 1: standing in the press box at Bryant-Denny Stadium. And everyone's
- 25:26Speaker 1: around these muted TVs, so you can't hear Sean McDonough's
- 25:29Speaker 1: voice crack. But yet everyone else's voice was cracking too.
- 25:31Speaker 1: She said, how can this be real life? How can
- 25:34Speaker 1: this be happening? A punt is the equivalent of a
- 25:37Speaker 1: touchdown in this moment. Just don't do it. Don't do it.
- 25:40Speaker 1: He did it. Again, he did it. I got no
- 25:45Speaker 1: idea what Texas's identity is. That's what someone said to me.
- 25:49Speaker 1: And I was confused. Like, we're six weeks in now.
- 25:53Speaker 1: What do you mean you don't know what Texas' identity is?
- 25:56Speaker 1: It's a defensive-oriented team. That's what their identity is. They're
- 26:01Speaker 1: in Oklahoma with a lot better offensive parts. That's what
- 26:04Speaker 1: their identity is. Now, if you're saying you don't know
- 26:07Speaker 1: what their offensive identity is, I'm right there with you.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I know what Steve Sarkeesian seems to want it to be,
- 26:14Speaker 1: but it's not that. So I don't really know what
- 26:17Speaker 1: the offensive identity here is. But the team identity? Special
- 26:20Speaker 1: teams let him down yesterday. Offense let him down. Quarterback
- 26:23Speaker 1: position let him down. Defense, that's their identity. It's just
- 26:28Speaker 1: that when you pay so much money for this roster,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and specifically this offensive talent roster, no one wants to
- 26:35Speaker 1: admit the obvious. Guys, it could be a whole lot
- 26:37Speaker 1: worse than this. Don't give up right now when you're
- 26:42Speaker 1: still just a one-loss team that has everything in front
- 26:45Speaker 1: of you. There are other teams out there. Your neighbors
- 26:48Speaker 1: down the road in College Station, their season's shot, and
- 26:51Speaker 1: they paid a lot of money. Oregon, their season's probably shot,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and they paid a lot of money. Your season's not shot,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but you're really going to have to recalibrate not your expectations,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but your worldview. on what you are and what you
- 27:05Speaker 1: could be and forget about what you want to be.
- 27:07Speaker 1: It's what you can be. That's what you got to
- 27:09Speaker 1: admit to this time of year. My view of Oklahoma
- 27:15Speaker 1: is totally irrelevant at the moment. We can get to
- 27:19Speaker 1: that Tuesday. We can get to that two weeks down
- 27:22Speaker 1: the road. Like as you sort of look down the
- 27:24Speaker 1: road at the rest of the Oklahoma season, just enjoy
- 27:28Speaker 1: this right now. You're not a player or a coach
- 27:30Speaker 1: on the team. So if you live in Chickasha, You
- 27:34Speaker 1: live in Broken Arrow. You live in Enid. Our friends
- 27:38Speaker 1: in Oklahoma deserve this. Just enjoy it. Just enjoy it.
- 27:43Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what the rest of the season's going
- 27:45Speaker 1: to bring right now. That'll come. Just enjoy this, man.
- 27:49Speaker 1: They can't take it from you. And as for Texas,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I think. I don't think they're
- 27:55Speaker 1: done losing. But you feel free to prove that wrong.
- 28:00Speaker 1: They got Florida this week. Florida looks terrible right now. Okay?
- 28:04Speaker 1: So that solves all the makings of a four-quarter game.
- 28:07Speaker 1: They got Ole Miss coming in there the next week.
- 28:11Speaker 1: They got Mississippi State coming in there. They still got
- 28:13Speaker 1: to go to Missouri. They still got to go to LSU.
- 28:14Speaker 1: LSU's a much different team at home than the road.
- 28:17Speaker 1: They cap off the season at A & M. Jesse,
- 28:20Speaker 1: I don't think they're done losing. That's my current stance
- 28:23Speaker 1: on Texas. But man, what a thrilling finish. An unexpected finish.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Not just pregame, but as of halftime of this game,
- 28:30Speaker 1: what an unexpected finish. Speaking of... It happened all over
- 28:34Speaker 1: the place yesterday. UCLA beat Oregon 17-15, and somehow an
- 28:42Speaker 1: upset one-possession game gets one-and-a-half challah on the one-to-five scale. Jesse,
- 28:50Speaker 1: if I told you UCLA was going to win a
- 28:52Speaker 1: game by two points in Autzen Stadium, but it was
- 28:55Speaker 1: going to get one-and-a-half challah, what would you think happened?
- 29:00Speaker 1: A strike? A protest? at midfield during the game. I
- 29:04Speaker 1: don't know what. The feed gets cut and we didn't
- 29:07Speaker 1: get to watch it? What would have had to have happened? Well,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'll tell you. The sloppiest game in modern football history
- 29:14Speaker 1: proceeded to unfold. And it was a matchup of former
- 29:18Speaker 1: five-star quarterbacks. That statement technically is true. Yet Brock Thomas
- 29:23Speaker 1: ends up with the best numbers out of any QB
- 29:25Speaker 1: in this game. There were 10, just pop the paper,
- 29:29Speaker 1: 10 total turnovers in this game. We do not apologize
- 29:35Speaker 1: for winning and we acknowledge winners first on this show.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Wayne Knight, the JMU transfer for UCLA. 22 carries, 103 yards,
- 29:44Speaker 1: two total touchdowns. Good on him. That largely concludes the
- 29:50Speaker 1: offensive highlights in this game, but you've got to credit
- 29:53Speaker 1: UCLA for They've got every reason to suck this year.
- 29:57Speaker 1: They got every reason to look exactly like some of
- 29:59Speaker 1: these other places look with first-year coaches. Golish is dealing
- 30:03Speaker 1: with it. Sumrall's dealing with it. Campbell's dealing with it.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Bob Chesney's just winning. So big credit to them. And
- 30:09Speaker 1: what they did do, at least, is they created a
- 30:12Speaker 1: chaotic enough defensive environment and capitalized on it. It's not
- 30:16Speaker 1: a bunch of world beaters. It's not a dominant defense.
- 30:19Speaker 1: But a style of game started to unfold. And they
- 30:23Speaker 1: put themselves in position to benefit from it. Immense credit there.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Because there's another world where Oregon just wins this game
- 30:30Speaker 1: running away. And instead, you could sit here and say, man,
- 30:33Speaker 1: maybe UCLA should have won by more than they did.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I'm looking at UCLA's schedule right now. And if you're
- 30:43Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, you are as well. If you're listening
- 30:45Speaker 1: on podcast, I need to talk to you about something.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Two things, actually. Number one, not getting ahead of ourselves.
- 30:53Speaker 1: UCLA to sort of give you an idea of where
- 30:56Speaker 1: the odds makers think they are right now. They play
- 31:00Speaker 1: Wisconsin Saturday at home and they're a three and a
- 31:03Speaker 1: half point favorite. So clearly Vegas is still not all
- 31:08Speaker 1: in on UCLA being the caliber of team that you
- 31:11Speaker 1: would classically refer to as playoff caliber. But don't worry
- 31:17Speaker 1: about that because we live in a post-Indiana, post-Curt Cignetti
- 31:21Speaker 1: world where Vegas could be very, very far behind. They
- 31:25Speaker 1: could be well, well behind the curve of something special happening.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Their schedule at UCLA is Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nevada, at Minnesota, Illinois,
- 31:35Speaker 1: at Michigan, USC. Keep in mind, that's a Big Ten team.
- 31:41Speaker 1: So there's some wiggle room. There's some room for a
- 31:43Speaker 1: loss in there. They currently have the third best odds
- 31:47Speaker 1: to win the Big Ten championship. A bunch of people
- 31:51Speaker 1: are shrugging. The Bob Chesney effect. Unbelievable. As for Oregon.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Nothing's wrong with your feed. Your internet's not pausing. I'm
- 32:05Speaker 1: just searching for the words. Sometimes you have the words, Jesse.
- 32:11Speaker 1: And sometimes someone else has the words. Sometimes those words
- 32:15Speaker 1: are called lyrics. And in this case, this brings me
- 32:19Speaker 1: no joy whatsoever whatsoever. Oregon has become the Sarah McLachlan
- 32:23Speaker 1: special of week six. Truly one of the worst games
- 32:29Speaker 1: that you'll ever see in your entire life. Double-digit home favorite.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Only 12 first downs. They went 1 of 12 on
- 32:38Speaker 1: third down. They went 0 of 2 on fourth down.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Dylan Raiola was awful in this game. 6 of 19
- 32:46Speaker 1: for 43 yards. Zero touchdowns. Two interceptions. Through three quarters
- 32:53Speaker 1: of this game, Oregon had been out gained at home. 296-83.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And their only hope ends up being turning to their
- 33:04Speaker 1: third string quarterback. They had seven total turnovers in this game.
- 33:10Speaker 1: I want you to earmuff the women and children. This
- 33:13Speaker 1: is a TVMA drive chart reading from Oregon yesterday. Punt.
- 33:20Speaker 1: one yard touchdown set up by the defense. Punt, punt, fumble, fumble, punt, punt, interception.
- 33:31Speaker 1: It is now halftime. Punt, fumble, interception, insert third string quarterback, fumble,
- 33:41Speaker 1: field goal, touchdown, fumble. Oregon loses 17 to 15. in
- 33:48Speaker 1: a performance that set offensive football and perhaps just football
- 33:53Speaker 1: in general back decades in Eugene. And now they, with
- 33:57Speaker 1: a second loss, find themselves very much behind the eight
- 34:01Speaker 1: ball for any kind of preseason hope and any kind
- 34:05Speaker 1: of preseason goal. It brings me no joy. Oregon is
- 34:09Speaker 1: the week six Sarah McLachlan special. Jesse, I never thought
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'd see the day. I never thought I'd see the day.
- 34:16Speaker 1: This is brutal right now. It may just be a
- 34:19Speaker 1: lost season for Oregon. Obviously, the quarterback injury situation is
- 34:23Speaker 1: paramount here, and you hope that they'll get Dante Moore back.
- 34:27Speaker 1: But remember, Dante Moore played when they were close with Boise,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and they lost to Oklahoma State. Look, that USC win,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I'm not taking anything away from them, but I don't know.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I've had varying thoughts on this. It almost feels like
- 34:44Speaker 1: Dylan Raiola coming off the bench out of nowhere and
- 34:46Speaker 1: not knowing it was about to happen was the best
- 34:48Speaker 1: thing for him in the USC game. Because this dude
- 34:51Speaker 1: had two weeks to know he was about to start
- 34:54Speaker 1: against UCLA. And it could not have been worse if
- 34:58Speaker 1: they tried. O-line and coordinators. Those were the two biggest
- 35:03Speaker 1: questions with Oregon coming into the year. And they are
- 35:06Speaker 1: gigantic red X's in every column right now. This is
- 35:10Speaker 1: a team that was built to win a title. That
- 35:13Speaker 1: is what the roster was built to do this year. And, man,
- 35:19Speaker 1: they are not remotely in the galaxy of sniffing that
- 35:21Speaker 1: right now. I announced the other night we partnered with Courtyard.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I am very excited about this. I dove into the
- 35:29Speaker 1: Courtyard app the other night. I opened up several packs,
- 35:32Speaker 1: which reminds me, Jesse, I need to show you some
- 35:34Speaker 1: of the cards I kept. The Sarah McLachlan special is
- 35:37Speaker 1: presented by Courtyard. It's a pretty sadistic move on their part.
- 35:41Speaker 1: They want to swoop in at someone's very, very worst
- 35:45Speaker 1: and say, hey, you feel terrible. We can't change the past,
- 35:50Speaker 1: but we can offer you a pack to rip. You
- 35:52Speaker 1: like football? You like Pokemon? You like sneakers? You like watches? Well,
- 35:56Speaker 1: we do. So we're partnered with Courtyard. Also, as is
- 36:00Speaker 1: usually the case when I partner with someone, I want giveaways.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And in this case, like a lot of you are very,
- 36:07Speaker 1: very active in this world, I have great news for you. copious, Jesse,
- 36:11Speaker 1: copious amounts of giveaways coming down the road. So we've
- 36:15Speaker 1: got all kinds of good ideas and fun ideas for this.
- 36:18Speaker 1: We're just now diving into this partnership. I would strongly
- 36:21Speaker 1: encourage you guys go grab your account over on the
- 36:24Speaker 1: Courtyard app and stay tuned for future information. You can
- 36:30Speaker 1: also use the promo code PAYTESTATE over there. Thank you, Jesse.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I did not write that down. We continue. We roll on.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Got a lot of people watching right now. Oh, we
- 36:45Speaker 1: saw a spike in subs, by the way. Yeah. Sorry, Bradley.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I know you had it pulled up here, and now
- 36:49Speaker 1: we pulled up an Indiana box score. Subscriptions, I am
- 36:54Speaker 1: happy to report, have now passed 580,000. 580,007, to be exact.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I just have fun pulling that thing up every now
- 37:02Speaker 1: and then. Immunity. Okay. Okay. Indiana beat Nebraska 20-17. Both
- 37:08Speaker 1: of the games I was at yesterday saw the road
- 37:10Speaker 1: team win 20-17. This was a Forge Ally game. This
- 37:14Speaker 1: was a really fun game to be at. Beautiful weather
- 37:17Speaker 1: conditions in Lincoln. This is a different feel for someone
- 37:21Speaker 1: like me. Because remember, I was on almost permanently the
- 37:24Speaker 1: wrong side of Indiana games last year. Very, very famously,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and I don't want to get into this too much,
- 37:29Speaker 1: and I'm not even having the staff pull the video,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I had to own up to the fact that I
- 37:36Speaker 1: was powerless to pick against Kurt Cignetti in Indiana. So
- 37:41Speaker 1: I entered the season, new year, new me sort of vibes,
- 37:45Speaker 1: and I knew this day was coming. I knew that
- 37:47Speaker 1: this Nebraska game, they would be undefeated, and we would
- 37:50Speaker 1: probably be there, and Indiana was going to roll into town,
- 37:53Speaker 1: and they'd also probably be undefeated, and all of those
- 37:56Speaker 1: things happened, all the tumblers fell into place. And I
- 37:58Speaker 1: knew that eventually I was going to be in front
- 38:00Speaker 1: of a big crowd, and I was going to have
- 38:03Speaker 1: every reason to pick Nebraska, The model loved Nebraska plus 7.5.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It was one of its favorite bets of the week.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I ended up putting Nebraska plus 7.5 on the Ramen
- 38:13Speaker 1: Noodle Express, and it hit. But games aren't decided by
- 38:17Speaker 1: point spreads. Games are decided by wins and losses. And ultimately,
- 38:22Speaker 1: it comes down to having to go on the record
- 38:25Speaker 1: and pick a winner. And Jesse, unlike last year, I
- 38:29Speaker 1: found it in myself to be on the right side
- 38:33Speaker 1: of history. This was our show. on ESPN Friday. Bryant
- 38:37Speaker 1: Haynes in the top five ranked Indiana Hoosiers run defense.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So here's what I want to do. I want to
- 38:42Speaker 1: be able to watch quarter number one tick down to
- 38:44Speaker 1: zeros and look at you, unlike the Michigan game last
- 38:47Speaker 1: year when we were here and say, they're for real.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I couldn't quite get myself there. I couldn't quite get
- 38:53Speaker 1: myself there because I am terrified of Kurt Cignetti. I
- 38:56Speaker 1: went 0-5 picking against this man last year. And if
- 38:58Speaker 1: I'm going to be wrong this year, I'm going to
- 39:00Speaker 1: make Kurt Cignetti lose a game to prove me wrong.
- 39:03Speaker 1: So I'm going to whisper it. I'll take Indiana to
- 39:06Speaker 1: win the game. It brings me no joy. It brings
- 39:11Speaker 1: me no joy. Untold bravery that it took to do that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: And wouldn't you know it, Nebraska covers, Indiana wins. This
- 39:23Speaker 1: is what we call a bad luck bowl. For those
- 39:25Speaker 1: of you who are new around here, we have padlock
- 39:27Speaker 1: stats and we have bad luck stats. Padlock stats are
- 39:30Speaker 1: the kind of stats where if you knew them before
- 39:31Speaker 1: the game, you wouldn't even need to watch the game.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You would just know who won. Bad luck stats are
- 39:36Speaker 1: the kind of stats that if you saw them before
- 39:38Speaker 1: the game would completely throw you for a loop when
- 39:41Speaker 1: you actually see who won the game. Here's how a
- 39:44Speaker 1: bad luck bowl works. We've got a whole group of
- 39:49Speaker 1: bad luck stats. For example, I walk up to you Friday,
- 39:54Speaker 1: and I tell you Nebraska's going to have a 128-65
- 39:58Speaker 1: rushing edge in this game. And then I say, hold on,
- 40:02Speaker 1: don't even say anything yet. Nebraska's going to go 10-19
- 40:05Speaker 1: on third down, and Indiana's going to be held to 1-10.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Hold on, I'm not done. And also... Nebraska's going to
- 40:14Speaker 1: run 83 plays to Indiana's 44. Okay, I'm done. What
- 40:19Speaker 1: do you think's going to happen? Indiana wins. The same
- 40:22Speaker 1: thing that always happens. Oklahoma last year, when they went
- 40:26Speaker 1: on that run to the playoff, they kept on wearing
- 40:27Speaker 1: t-shirts that said hard to kill. They ought to print
- 40:30Speaker 1: those in Bloomington if they haven't already. Indiana's just really
- 40:34Speaker 1: hard to kill. They went down 17-6 in this game.
- 40:39Speaker 1: We were there, and I can tell you confidently, I
- 40:44Speaker 1: don't know that you could have paused for a moment
- 40:47Speaker 1: in time and had it any better than Nebraska had
- 40:51Speaker 1: it at that very moment. And then this happens. Just
- 40:56Speaker 1: explosive passes win them the game. Josh Hoover was 12
- 41:00Speaker 1: of 22 and had 263 through the air and a
- 41:03Speaker 1: couple of touchdowns. But four explosive passes accounted for 199
- 41:07Speaker 1: of those 263. Those touchdowns were 44 and 75. And oh,
- 41:15Speaker 1: the second one, the dagger touchdown, that one leaves a mark.
- 41:20Speaker 1: You don't get over that. Nebraska's got two because they
- 41:23Speaker 1: got another game this weekend. They play Oregon, by the way.
- 41:26Speaker 1: But that one haunts you for a long, long time.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I've got a quote written down on this piece of paper. Now,
- 41:33Speaker 1: this is not me saying this. I kind of get
- 41:34Speaker 1: to be with Indiana a And I kind of get
- 41:37Speaker 1: to do the, hey guys, do you hear what the world,
- 41:39Speaker 1: what society is saying about you? And the quote, Jesse, is,
- 41:43Speaker 1: this isn't last year's Indiana team. You've probably heard some
- 41:47Speaker 1: people saying that, right? You may even think that yourself.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Nobody is last year's Indiana team, including Indiana. So I
- 41:58Speaker 1: wouldn't so much worry about that. What I'd worry about is,
- 42:01Speaker 1: keep improving. You got out of a Hornets' nest yesterday.
- 42:07Speaker 1: You're still undefeated. You did the same thing a couple
- 42:09Speaker 1: of weeks ago against Northwestern. You're still undefeated. You just
- 42:12Speaker 1: keep improving. Did you hear that, Jesse? That's Ryan Day.
- 42:17Speaker 1: He's coming to town in six days with Ohio State.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Three-and-a-half-point favorites. Indiana, the reigning champs. Did you notice Gus
- 42:25Speaker 1: Johnson didn't call them the defending champs, but the reigning champs?
- 42:28Speaker 1: Thank you. It may be semantics, but it's proper because
- 42:32Speaker 1: no one's defending a title. They are reigning champs. They
- 42:35Speaker 1: got Ohio State this weekend. I don't know what else
- 42:38Speaker 1: you could have wanted if you were Nebraska. I really, truly,
- 42:40Speaker 1: 1.45 p.m. Central Standard Time, Saturday, October 10th. Freeze that
- 42:46Speaker 1: moment in time. Anthony Calandria rips off a 39-yard touchdown run.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Please watch close. He breaks in the open field. He
- 42:57Speaker 1: points to Will Compton on the sideline. And the place
- 43:02Speaker 1: goes insane. What more could you want? Home team goes
- 43:06Speaker 1: up 17-6. You're owning time of possession. You've run twice
- 43:11Speaker 1: as many plays as them. You're lethal on third down.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Crowd is at full throat. Meemaw told me.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Joshua?
- 43:21Speaker 1: Joshua? You never start believing, and you'll never get hurt. No,
- 43:27Speaker 1: she didn't. She didn't tell me that. She said hope
- 43:30Speaker 1: is a good thing, maybe the best of things. Now,
- 43:32Speaker 1: some people say that came from Shawshank Redemption, but they
- 43:35Speaker 1: got it from Meemaw. The fourth and one touchdown pass
- 43:40Speaker 1: from Indiana, all you can do is throw up. That's
- 43:43Speaker 1: all you can do. You just throw up at that point.
- 43:47Speaker 1: I felt so bad for William. I felt so bad
- 43:50Speaker 1: for him. I stood next to him most of this
- 43:52Speaker 1: game He was at a different level. They put him
- 43:55Speaker 1: on the big screen for the pregame. They played the
- 43:58Speaker 1: Will Compton hype video. They showed him on the big
- 44:01Speaker 1: screen live. The crowd didn't need his help. They brought
- 44:06Speaker 1: it yesterday. But he expended so much. I don't know
- 44:10Speaker 1: how many years were shaved off the end of his life.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I think he'll live to like 115 or 120. But
- 44:17Speaker 1: so much was left on the field. And it was
- 44:21Speaker 1: like watching a balloon One of those big red balloons
- 44:24Speaker 1: just inflate and inflate and inflate and inflate and inflate.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And you're like, all right, all right, that's enough. That's enough.
- 44:30Speaker 1: That's enough. Oh no, there's will everywhere. This is terrible.
- 44:39Speaker 1: This is terrible. I wanted it so bad for him.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Now I picked Indiana cause I thought they'd win the game.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I wanted it so bad. I wouldn't have, I wouldn't
- 44:49Speaker 1: have minded at all losing this, being wrong on this
- 44:52Speaker 1: game The script was followed, Jesse. You got to shrink
- 44:56Speaker 1: the game. They did. You've got to bottle up their
- 45:00Speaker 1: ground game. You did. Here's an added bonus. You outrushed them.
- 45:04Speaker 1: You did all those things. You owned third down. And still,
- 45:08Speaker 1: it's like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall. You
- 45:11Speaker 1: still can't find a way. There's such skill in knowing
- 45:14Speaker 1: how to win games. And Indiana knows how to. And
- 45:18Speaker 1: I think Nebraska's closer to knowing how to. but they
- 45:21Speaker 1: still didn't know how to. It was a really good
- 45:24Speaker 1: look for them. You feel good. Certainly, this is not
- 45:28Speaker 1: like a zero-sum world where you're either bad or you're terrible.
- 45:32Speaker 1: That program's trending the right way. Man, when I was
- 45:34Speaker 1: there last year, Michigan had a decided edge on the
- 45:38Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. That was not this game yesterday. Nebraska
- 45:42Speaker 1: really held their own in that department. It's still a
- 45:46Speaker 1: little ways to go. They've got to go to Oregon
- 45:47Speaker 1: this week, so they've got to lick their wounds and
- 45:49Speaker 1: regroup really quickly. Probably best thing for them to play
- 45:52Speaker 1: another game really, really soon. Ohio State is a three
- 45:54Speaker 1: and a half point favorite at Indiana this Saturday. We
- 45:57Speaker 1: will be there. The Don't Tread on Saturday tour will
- 45:59Speaker 1: be there. But man, what a weekend we had in Lincoln.
- 46:02Speaker 1: We were there Friday and Saturday. I said, sitting in
- 46:07Speaker 1: my hotel room Friday night, I just tweeted out, I
- 46:10Speaker 1: really hope every college football fan gets to go to
- 46:12Speaker 1: at least one big game, one big Saturday, one big
- 46:15Speaker 1: weekend in that place. Perfect college football. They care. They're
- 46:21Speaker 1: so invested. The facilities are immaculate. They let us work
- 46:25Speaker 1: out there. There's the reverse bear hug on clap, by
- 46:27Speaker 1: the way. Never saw it coming. You just, it's one
- 46:31Speaker 1: of those places. In fact, I don't know if there's
- 46:34Speaker 1: another fan base that I want success for more than
- 46:37Speaker 1: Nebraska that hasn't had success lately. You know what I mean?
- 46:40Speaker 1: Like some places, they're very apathetic about college football. So
- 46:44Speaker 1: you don't really long for them to win. I long
- 46:49Speaker 1: for Nebraska people to be able to feel what Indiana
- 46:52Speaker 1: felt last year and this year. Places like Georgia, they
- 46:56Speaker 1: always feel it. Ohio State always feels it. I want
- 47:00Speaker 1: Nebraska to feel that. And I hope. That's what I have.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I hope for Nebraska. Let's move on. Oh, Florida. Oh,
- 47:12Speaker 1: Shane Beamer. Oh, Cocktober. We canceled Cocktober too early. South
- 47:18Speaker 1: Carolina just beat Florida 38-19. Do we give it 1.5 Chalai? Yes.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Because South Carolina pulled away. The mental resolve it takes
- 47:29Speaker 1: to do this stuff, you have to appreciate when you
- 47:32Speaker 1: watch South Carolina right now. Because they have every reason
- 47:35Speaker 1: to totally implode on themselves. And instead, they go into
- 47:38Speaker 1: a place that's very hostile. Hostile. And they do this.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Lenora Sellers plays the best game of his year. Nick
- 47:45Speaker 1: Harbour shows up. The More on Dylan Stewart in a second.
- 47:50Speaker 1: That's its own thing to talk about. But it just...
- 47:54Speaker 1: Normal people can't do this stuff is all I'm saying.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Now you might say, anybody can suck so bad that
- 48:00Speaker 1: one win makes you praise them. If that's the way
- 48:03Speaker 1: you want to view the world, view the world that way.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'm just saying, 99 times out of 100, if anyone's
- 48:10Speaker 1: feeling a fraction of the heat Beamer has felt or
- 48:12Speaker 1: those players have felt, they crumble. And instead... They made
- 48:17Speaker 1: someone else fold in their own building yesterday. South Carolina
- 48:21Speaker 1: has got to be so confusing for a casual fan
- 48:24Speaker 1: to get a glimpse of. Because you watch South Carolina,
- 48:29Speaker 1: and at their best, Lenora Sellers looks insane. Like, Harbor
- 48:34Speaker 1: looks like an alien. Dylan Stewart is a monster. And
- 48:38Speaker 1: a casual fan has to look at that and say,
- 48:41Speaker 1: how do they lose games? This team looks insane athletically.
- 48:45Speaker 1: That's a top 15 payroll in the sport. How do
- 48:48Speaker 1: they lose games? I don't know. They didn't lose one yesterday, though.
- 48:52Speaker 1: They took a lead, and let's just pause there because
- 48:55Speaker 1: they've done that before. They've taken several leads, but this
- 48:59Speaker 1: time it was different because they never looked back. Finally,
- 49:03Speaker 1: South Carolina grabs a lead, and they never look back.
- 49:07Speaker 1: But it was 10 to 10 with four minutes to
- 49:10Speaker 1: go to half. And it was 38 to 13 with
- 49:13Speaker 1: eight minutes to go in the game. So I knew
- 49:16Speaker 1: what happened before I rewatched this game. This was one
- 49:19Speaker 1: where you're checking a score because I was on the road.
- 49:22Speaker 1: So I know how the game went final wise before
- 49:26Speaker 1: I get to watch the game. So that's kind of
- 49:28Speaker 1: a weird way to experience this game because you, you
- 49:32Speaker 1: start watching the game And you see, oh man, this
- 49:35Speaker 1: is ugly early. Sellers is under pressure. He missed a
- 49:38Speaker 1: wide open touchdown on a flea flicker. And Philo hits
- 49:41Speaker 1: an explosive touchdown through the air. There's tackles for loss.
- 49:45Speaker 1: There's a bad sack. There's nothing open deep on it.
- 49:49Speaker 1: They miss a field goal. It's 7-0 Florida. It's late
- 49:53Speaker 1: first quarter. Here we go again. But you already know
- 49:55Speaker 1: the final. So you're watching it saying, this looks terrible.
- 50:00Speaker 1: How are they going to score 38 points in this game?
- 50:03Speaker 1: And then Sellers ends up with his best game of
- 50:06Speaker 1: the season. He was 23 of 35, I think. He
- 50:09Speaker 1: had 279, four touchdowns, had one on the ground. They
- 50:12Speaker 1: were 10 of 16 on third down. They were five
- 50:15Speaker 1: of seven on third and nine plus. Now, I don't
- 50:19Speaker 1: think the Florida coaching staff has had any illusions of
- 50:22Speaker 1: their secondary being anything other than a liability, but that
- 50:25Speaker 1: is a glaring liability right there. So let's talk Dylan
- 50:29Speaker 1: Stewart for a second. Dylan Stewart played yesterday. He had
- 50:34Speaker 1: been suspended after his actions at the Alabama game, and
- 50:39Speaker 1: he came back yesterday. And so it was announced Dylan
- 50:42Speaker 1: Stewart was going to play. And then Saturday morning, I
- 50:45Speaker 1: think it may have been Pete Nacos who reported Dylan
- 50:49Speaker 1: Stewart will not be on a pitch count today. Because remember,
- 50:52Speaker 1: he had been coming back from injury before the season,
- 50:55Speaker 1: so they had played him sparingly. Now, I can't prove
- 50:58Speaker 1: this is how it went, but it's pretty clear this
- 51:00Speaker 1: is how it went. Stewart gets himself in the doghouse.
- 51:04Speaker 1: And then Shane Beamer, when asked what will determine when
- 51:07Speaker 1: he comes back, says, me. And Dylan Stewart atones and
- 51:13Speaker 1: does whatever it takes to get back in the good
- 51:15Speaker 1: graces of Shane Beamer. But I picture Shane Beamer telling him,
- 51:19Speaker 1: all right, bud, you want to be reinstated to this team?
- 51:25Speaker 1: You've shown me that you're willing to humble yourself. I'll
- 51:29Speaker 1: reinstate you. You're going to play every down of this game.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Dylan Stewart goes from being on a pitch count to
- 51:37Speaker 1: playing 77 snaps in this game. And he showed up.
- 51:43Speaker 1: And Nick Harber has four catches for 83 yards and
- 51:46Speaker 1: a touchdown. And Lenora Sellers has five total touchdowns. Here's
- 51:50Speaker 1: what happened. If you're wondering how this final could be
- 51:53Speaker 1: what it was... South Carolina stars play like stars. That's
- 51:56Speaker 1: what happened. And when their stars play like stars, they
- 52:01Speaker 1: can be a top 10 caliber team. It's just that
- 52:03Speaker 1: their stars don't consistently play like stars. So they haven't been.
- 52:08Speaker 1: But that doesn't change the fact that if you catch
- 52:11Speaker 1: them on a Saturday when those dudes are going off,
- 52:14Speaker 1: they are a terror to play against. On the other side,
- 52:17Speaker 1: I'm not sure I remember extremes like this in a
- 52:20Speaker 1: six-week period for like any team. Florida goes to Auburn,
- 52:25Speaker 1: and they play Ole Miss, and they win by a
- 52:27Speaker 1: combined 96-67. And then they play at Missouri and home
- 52:32Speaker 1: against South Carolina and get outscored 88-36. The run game
- 52:36Speaker 1: gets taken away, and it's tough on them. Jaden Ball
- 52:40Speaker 1: had 15 carries for 59 yards, and that's after the
- 52:44Speaker 1: Missouri game where he had 12 carries for 13 yards
- 52:47Speaker 1: and sent the text, like, I won't let this happen again. Well,
- 52:50Speaker 1: it wasn't as bad as the Missouri game, but man,
- 52:54Speaker 1: What a high and a low, which rhymes with Philo.
- 52:57Speaker 1: So far this year for Florida, I think they'll be fine.
- 53:01Speaker 1: It's just kind of the illusion of what potentially could
- 53:06Speaker 1: have been this year for Florida. That's kind of by
- 53:08Speaker 1: the wayside, although technically everything's still in front of them. Realistically,
- 53:13Speaker 1: the FanDuel under win total for them is 7.5 right now.
- 53:16Speaker 1: They are a plus 6,500 team to win the SEC,
- 53:20Speaker 1: plus 700 odds to make the playoffs. So push that
- 53:23Speaker 1: off to the side. for a little while. They still
- 53:25Speaker 1: got to go to Texas this week. They played Georgia
- 53:28Speaker 1: after the bye week in Atlanta, inexplicably. Now, here's what
- 53:32Speaker 1: we did know about Florida coming into the year. If
- 53:35Speaker 1: they could somehow get through this middle part, the back
- 53:38Speaker 1: four games were manageable for them, but I don't know.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I don't know, Jesse. The other million-dollar question, multi-million-dollar question
- 53:47Speaker 1: around South Carolina is, what's the deal with Shane Beamer?
- 53:51Speaker 1: Shane Beamer's been on the hot seat, validly. I think
- 53:54Speaker 1: he's been on the hot seat. And then they come
- 53:57Speaker 1: into this game, and the one thing you could say
- 53:59Speaker 1: the whole year about that team is they haven't quit
- 54:01Speaker 1: on him. At no point did anyone with a brain
- 54:03Speaker 1: who's watched them say, oh, that team's quit on Shane Beamer.
- 54:06Speaker 1: At no point had they done that. They just weren't
- 54:08Speaker 1: playing good enough. And the heat got turned up on him,
- 54:11Speaker 1: and the pressure got turned up on him. And then
- 54:14Speaker 1: they go do this, and then I saw a lot
- 54:16Speaker 1: of people coming out of the game saying, oh, is
- 54:17Speaker 1: Shane Beamer safe? He's I don't know because I don't
- 54:20Speaker 1: make those decisions. I hope he is because I think
- 54:22Speaker 1: the theme here and a lot of other places around
- 54:26Speaker 1: college football sort of moving forward is going to be
- 54:30Speaker 1: maybe it's smarter to not be in a rush to
- 54:33Speaker 1: pay tens of millions of dollars for a guy not
- 54:36Speaker 1: to coach us anymore when instead we could take that
- 54:39Speaker 1: money and we could invest it in upgrading whatever we
- 54:43Speaker 1: think needs upgraded. Now, certainly there will be instances where
- 54:46Speaker 1: you just have to fire a coach. Is South Carolina
- 54:49Speaker 1: at that point? I'll tell you my personal feel is no,
- 54:55Speaker 1: I wouldn't do it. But I don't run South Carolina.
- 54:59Speaker 1: My feel on this also, though, is I don't think
- 55:03Speaker 1: they want to fire him. It's not like there's a
- 55:06Speaker 1: ton of animosity. It doesn't feel that way at all
- 55:08Speaker 1: administratively between them and Shane Beamer. They're looking for every
- 55:12Speaker 1: reason to keep him. If that's the climate, this stuff
- 55:16Speaker 1: goes a long way in doing that. So I love
- 55:19Speaker 1: Shane Beamer. So like selfishly, I hope that this gets
- 55:23Speaker 1: him off of a hot seat. But yet I also
- 55:26Speaker 1: came into the year disagreeing with South Carolina fans because
- 55:28Speaker 1: South Carolina fans were like, no, no, no, no. You
- 55:30Speaker 1: don't ever go four and eight and enter a season,
- 55:33Speaker 1: not on the hot seat. My take on it was
- 55:36Speaker 1: that kind of stuff's just going to happen sometimes. But
- 55:38Speaker 1: that's the disconnect because I'm not emotionally invested in the
- 55:41Speaker 1: program to the degree that they are. So I'll yield
- 55:43Speaker 1: to them. I still will. I'll still yield to you.
- 55:46Speaker 1: If you look at this and you're heavily invested in
- 55:48Speaker 1: South Carolina and you still say, okay, you beat Florida.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Big deal. I still want you fired. You're free to
- 55:54Speaker 1: feel that way. I wouldn't feel that way if I
- 55:57Speaker 1: were a South Carolina fan. That's what I'm saying. I
- 55:59Speaker 1: don't think I would. A lot of big games coming
- 56:02Speaker 1: up this week. A lot of big games. A lot
- 56:05Speaker 1: of you went to big games yesterday. And I have
- 56:08Speaker 1: it on good authority because I open most of my
- 56:10Speaker 1: DMs that a lot of you used SeatGeek and the
- 56:13Speaker 1: promo code to go to games yesterday. Still good this
- 56:15Speaker 1: week and every week. You go to SeatGeek and purchase
- 56:20Speaker 1: whatever you need to. A lot of you, I find,
- 56:22Speaker 1: a lot of you have tickets and then you're waiting
- 56:24Speaker 1: by parking at the last minute. You can also do
- 56:26Speaker 1: that on SeatGeek. Use promo code PATE10 at checkout. P-A-T-E-1-0.
- 56:32Speaker 1: And they'll take care of you. Our friends at SeatGeek
- 56:34Speaker 1: always do. We move on. Will Stein. Will Stein is
- 56:44Speaker 1: a problem, Jesse. Not for Kentucky, but for the rest
- 56:48Speaker 1: of the free college football world. Will Stein is a problem.
- 56:53Speaker 1: He beat LSU, he and his team. Kentucky beat LSU
- 56:57Speaker 1: 35-34 last night in a five-challi classic. Very rare. Will
- 57:05Speaker 1: Stein is six weeks into his career as a head coach.
- 57:09Speaker 1: And he's already won a five-child like classic. And I
- 57:12Speaker 1: could not help but think about the life of a
- 57:17Speaker 1: Kentucky football season ticket holder as I watched them win
- 57:21Speaker 1: this game. These people sat through 13 seasons of Bob Stoops.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Bob Stoops was a good coach. But there was a
- 57:28Speaker 1: certain brand of ball that you knew that you were
- 57:30Speaker 1: getting under Bob Stoops. And then God, what? Mark Stoops.
- 57:37Speaker 1: How would it have gone with Bob Stoops? do we,
- 57:40Speaker 1: do we want to play that through? Um, anyway, so
- 57:43Speaker 1: Mark Stoops is there for 13 years. It goes the
- 57:46Speaker 1: way it goes. And then God takes the shock panels,
- 57:50Speaker 1: puts them on the chest of Kentucky football and goes,
- 57:54Speaker 1: and you get Will Stein and he's five and one
- 57:58Speaker 1: already with a top 10 win. Stoops had three of
- 58:00Speaker 1: those in the regular season, his entire tenure there. And
- 58:03Speaker 1: he's had back to back walk off two point conversions. Um,
- 58:07Speaker 1: It is a new day for Kentucky season ticket holders,
- 58:09Speaker 1: is what I'm trying to say. I really expected them
- 58:12Speaker 1: to struggle in this game. I just got this one
- 58:14Speaker 1: dead wrong. My feel on this one was way off.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I thought LSU would win this game comfortably. Did not
- 58:19Speaker 1: like the matchup at all for Kentucky, but there's nothing
- 58:22Speaker 1: hollow about this outcome. It's a brand new offensive line.
- 58:27Speaker 1: It's a brand new quarterback, and yet they outrushed LSU.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Kenny Menchie played a clean game. He was 23 of
- 58:33Speaker 1: 36 for 246 yards. They threw... No interceptions. They took
- 58:39Speaker 1: one sack against Blake Baker's defense. And I know LSU
- 58:42Speaker 1: folks have had plenty to say about Blake Baker on
- 58:44Speaker 1: the road. Still, this is a huge deal for Kentucky.
- 58:48Speaker 1: And it really felt like it could have been worse.
- 58:50Speaker 1: It really felt like Kentucky could have won more convincingly
- 58:52Speaker 1: than that. They were four of seven in the red zone.
- 58:55Speaker 1: They were only two of four on field goals. So
- 58:57Speaker 1: you could reasonably make the argument, yeah, we won, but
- 59:00Speaker 1: we left a lot on the field. Just think about
- 59:04Speaker 1: where this could be headed for Kentucky. and Will Stein.
- 59:08Speaker 1: And this is a guy who wants to be at Kentucky,
- 59:10Speaker 1: mind you. So that's a beautiful thing when we get
- 59:13Speaker 1: that sort of deal in college football, instead of this
- 59:15Speaker 1: mercenary type vibe where you know a guy's just putting
- 59:18Speaker 1: in his time before he moves on to greener pastures. Hey,
- 59:23Speaker 1: This is 2026. Indiana can be a green pasture in
- 59:27Speaker 1: college football. Kentucky can be a green pasture in college football.
- 59:30Speaker 1: You don't have to move if you don't want to.
- 59:31Speaker 1: You're there right now. This place you're at right now,
- 59:34Speaker 1: that can be it. It is so frustrating to watch
- 59:37Speaker 1: LSU in the wide receiver room not become what some
- 59:42Speaker 1: of us hoped it would become. Che Dixon, I was
- 59:45Speaker 1: reading some of his work over on the LSU on
- 59:48Speaker 1: three site. He was talking about Eugene Wilson. That's a
- 59:50Speaker 1: name that we had talked about a lot from the portal.
- 59:52Speaker 1: 62 snaps he played yesterday. One reception for five yards
- 59:57Speaker 1: on four targets. It's just not good enough. You can't
- 59:59Speaker 1: have guys on the field that much contribute that little
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: to the passing game. Tradez Green's out right now. Guys
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: have to step up. You've got to get more out
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: of that position group. But the defense got worked here.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: It pains me to say it. But the defense got
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: worked here. Joe Sloan had to go to bed with
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: a giant smile on his face last night. It had
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: to be a mile wide, man. This is, this being
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Blake Baker, is the highest paid defensive coordinator in college football.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: And I love him, but you got to hold folks
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: to account. That's $ 3 million a year that you're paying
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: to have this kind of lack of production on the road.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: The glaring difference between home splits and road splits for
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: LSU as a team and LSU defensively is pretty wild.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: That program has to learn to win on the road.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: They make you play at least four of them on
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the road every year in conference play, some years five.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: You've got to do better. This has been pre-existing or
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: pre-dating Lane Kiffin. You've got to be better on the road.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: You just reassess the season now. They're 4-2, and they've
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: still got Mississippi State, Bama, Texas. Those three are at home.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: They've still got to go to Knoxville and Arkansas at
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: the end of the year, if we want to point
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: that out. Their current over-under win total is 7.5. So
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: I had LSU at 9-3 in the preseason and got
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: yelled at because that's too low. I'd put them at
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: 8-4 right now. I'd lean 8-4. They'll get guys back. Like,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Whit Weeks will be back. Trey does green. Like, we
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: think those guys will be back. Year one, they were
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: a very, very high-variance team, very big boom-or-bust-type team. You
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: take your shot. It's probably not going to work out
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: the way you thought it was. Year two and beyond, like,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: that's your launch point. You've got to be in the
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: mix every year. I thought it was really weird in
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the preseason. Everyone started equating payroll to odds to win.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: It's a very lazy way to look at the sport.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I don't care if LSU paid $ 100 million. Your players
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: are your players. They're either good enough or they aren't.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Especially if you're prone to injury, if you've got depth
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: concerns like they and a lot of teams do, It
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: doesn't matter how much you're paying. Does it matter how
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: much A & M' s paying their guys right now? Did
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: it matter yesterday how much money Texas had sunk into
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: their offensive personnel? If you can't do it with them,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: you can't do it with them. Conversely, there are some
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: teams out there who are winning at a bargain. You've
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: still got to do the same stuff you've always had
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: to do. So I never looked at it as Well,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: if LSU had only paid $ 25 million for these players,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I'd pick them to go 8-4. But since they paid
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: $ 40 million, 10-2. The money's the money. It doesn't matter.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I could pay $ 50 grand or $ 150 grand for a truck.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: It's still the same truck. So, congrats to Kentucky, though. Bradley,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: do me a favor. Show me Kentucky's schedule right quick.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I know you put it up once. I didn't get
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: a glance at it. They go to Oklahoma this week. Now,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: History says this is a double do-down spot. When you've
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: played back-to-back games where you walked off on a two-point conversion,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: you're supposed to crash and burn the next week. But
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: then again, is this not also a do-down spot for
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Oklahoma coming off the Red River shootout? So who knows?
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Anything's possible. But Kentucky is 5-1 right now. I would
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: argue already exceeding expectations. Let us continue. Got a lot
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: more to get to. It was always going to be
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: a long show tonight. We don't apologize for it. We
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: merely ask that you subscribe to the channel and like
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: the video. Boom. Double thumbs up. Actually, you can only
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: click it once. So please click the thumbs up button once. Oh, Jesse. Oh, Jesse.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: USC 31, Penn State 23. Three and a half child
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: like game. Good spectacle. 114,419 people in attendance. in State
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: College last night. First off, there was a lot of
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: challenge for people to show up, including on this show.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Massive hat tip to the Penn State people for creating
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: this environment. Unbelievable. You guys can't go on the field
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: and play. I know you wish you could. You did
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: everything that you were asked to do. Hat tip. Awesome environment.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I can't imagine the USC folks that traveled up there
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: and got to experience this. I saw Lincoln Riley didn't
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: want to leave. which is not exactly what you want
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: the road coach to be feeling, but still, that is special.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Nowhere else but college football does that kind of environment exist.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: USC staff earn their paychecks in this game. I gave
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: up on Lincoln Riley a couple of weeks ago, and
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: yet I got to give him a major hat tip here.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: I'm sure there will be plenty of doubters still about USC,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: but who cares? You play the games, they don't. So,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Jaden Maiava played a clean game last night. And Trent
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Mosley plugged back in. Nine catches for 111 and one touchdown.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: They worked this secondary. The 301 pass yards, and I mean,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: there's a padlock stat here. USC five for five in
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: the red zone for 31 points. Penn State was four
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: of four for 20 points. That's the difference, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: in this great sport of ours between kicking it for
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: three and scoring it for seven. USC did the latter.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Penn State had to settle for the former. And that
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: was the difference in the game. It's not a blowout.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: It's 31-23 final. USC, just think about where they are
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: right now versus where they were. So they're coming off
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the Oregon loss. At that point, I sold my stock.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: After five years of holding Lincoln Riley stock, I finally
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: sold it. And then they were down 21-10 to a
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: bad Washington team. And they stormed from behind and they won.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: At that point, a lot of people said, Yeah, but
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Washington sucks. In fact, it's an indictment on USC that
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: it was a close game. But that doesn't matter because
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: they won. And then they went to Penn State. I
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: thought they'd lose this game. And they were down 20-17
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: in the third quarter. And they come from behind and win.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: And yet again, if you want to choose to doubt USC,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: you could look at that and say Washington and Penn
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: State are terrible. Oregon is off the pace and you
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: still lost to them by double digits. What have you
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: really proven? No, no, no. You'll have to play Ohio
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: State eventually and that's where you'll lose. You'll go to Indiana.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: That's where you'll lose. Maybe you're right. I'd pick both
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: those teams to beat USC right now. But here's the thing.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I picked Penn State to beat USC and it didn't
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: matter because USC won. So they're right back in the
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Big Ten title race. And I did not think I'd
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: be saying that a couple of weeks ago. Now at FanDuel,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: I do want to caution you. They have the one, two, three, four,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: six best odds to win the Big Ten. Jesse, you're
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: shaking your head? What problem? Oh, you don't believe in
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Luke Fickle. You don't believe in the Wisconsin Badgers, who
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: are three and a half point underdogs at UCLA this weekend,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: even though they should be favored. You don't believe in them. Okay, well,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: call FanDuel Mike. Take it up with them. Don't take
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: it up with me. Quarterback is fulfilling expectation for USC
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: right now, The freshmen are making an impact. They got
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: a big road win here, which is a big deal
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: if you've looked at Lincoln Riley's two-plus time zone travel
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: splits over the years, because yes, that's something that exists
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: in conference play in the Big Ten now. Defense, I
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: will grant you, is nothing to write home about. If
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: you can just hold teams to three, if you can
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: just be situational in the red zone like they were yesterday,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: that's all I can ask of USC defensively. At Wisconsin,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Ohio State, bye. And then, of course, you've got to
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: add Indiana, Maryland, and at UCLA. What is that game
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: going to look like at the end of the year?
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: People are drooling. Some people are already looking ahead saying,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: might that have playoff implications? Jesse, I've got to think
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: for at least one team that's going to have playoff implications.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I'm not really sure where you'd go the rest of
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: the year if you're Penn State. It felt like they
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: kind of emptied the tank. This was kind of a
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: last stand moment. And they can't run it. 31 carries
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: for 60 yards. And remember, Rutgers ran it for 168
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: against USC. Jesse said, no, he picked Rutgers to win
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: that game. The pass game cannot push it down the field.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Here's the thing. Sometimes this sport's really, really difficult to understand.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Other times it's not. This is one of those times.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Penn State's players aren't good enough. That concludes the breakdown
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: of Penn State right now. There was hope that the
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: continuity of bringing over a lot of guys from Iowa
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: State combined with a workable schedule would be enough where
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: they could sort of smoke and mirror their way to
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: 10 wins. That's not going to happen. And, um, Remember,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: you skipped a recruiting class, basically. You sort of had
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: to punt on the portal because of the eight ball
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: that you were behind because you took about a month
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: and a half to hire a coach. It's going to
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: be a process. I don't doubt Matt Campbell an ounce
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: more than I did when he took the job. This
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: is not a Matt Campbell thing to me. It's a
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: talent deficiency thing, and they're not going to fix it overnight.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: But I do think a decision has to be made
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: up there, and it's your decision to make. You've got
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: to decide how much you're going to invest in football.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Because you've got to be a big spender at Penn State.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: You just have to. And I will tell you, the
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: expectation around the rest of the Big Ten, just to
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: let you in on a little secret, is that Penn
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: State's not going to be serious enough to financially back
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Matt Campbell and that coaching staff, but also that talent
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: acquisition mechanism there. You do with that what you will.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, talking to some folks around the
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Big Ten, they flat out don't think you'll lean in
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: and invest enough. Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong. Time
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: will tell on that. Other winners and losers. Tons of
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: winners and losers. Sorry, Bradley. Tons of winners and losers
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: from this past weekend. Texas A & M being a loser.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Not the people of Texas A & M. Notice, not
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: the cesspool over there, but rather just the football team. 27-6,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: a loser on the road at Missouri. This game was
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: not a whole lot to watch. Marcel Reed threw two
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: more picks. You know the drill. They had, is that real, Jesse?
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: 29 yards rushing. Yeah, it's real. So a very workmanlike
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: effort from Missouri. They won it, but that wasn't the
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: big takeaway from the game. If this game would have
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: just happened in isolation on a big Saturday and the
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: postgame press conference not occurred, no one would think much
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: about this. But the postgame press conference did occur. And
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Mike Elko, who I got a tremendous amount of respect for,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: put his foot in his mouth yesterday. And created or
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: rather committed a massive unforced error at his post-game news conference.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I'm going to play the sound for you, and then
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: I'll talk about it on the other side.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: Yeah, again, there's a difference to me between the fan
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: base and social media. And so there's one group that
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: I really don't care much about. You know, Billy Sespul
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: can go be Billy Sespul. Our fan base, stay with us,
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: be behind us. We're going to build something that we
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: told you we were going to build. We're in a
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: really bad spot right now, but we'll work our way.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Out of it. Don't go after Texags if you're the
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Texas A & M head coach. Billy Lucci runs Texags.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I understand for casual fans, you don't know what Texags is.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Let me explain what Texags is. I want you to
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: think about a town in middle America in 1985. And
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: then I want you to think about the shopping mall
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: in that town. That is the center of of the
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: socioeconomic scene. That is the center of the cultural scene
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: in that town. That, for the Texas A & M
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: fan base, is Tex-Ags. It is a massive, massive entity
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: within the Texas A & M community. It's not some
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: folks are on Tex-Ags. You'd have a whole lot easier
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: time finding the Texas A & M supporters who aren't
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: members at Tex-Ags. I am part of Billy Lucci's cesspool.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Billy Lucci is a close personal friend of this program. Okay,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I have spent countless hours in Billy's cesspool. There I
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: am in Billy's cesspool right there. How those folks have
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: these pictures, I'll never know. I hit up Kay over
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: at Tex-Ax today. I said, hey, do you have a
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: picture of me and Billy? She sent me like 20
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: of them. I know what Mike Elko meant. I know
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: what he meant. What he meant was you cannot waste
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: time worrying about what toxic people say about you online.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: You could just say that. I know what he meant.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: The choice of words was very poor and a lot
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: of people focused on it. Now, here's what I suspect.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I suspect that once Mike Elko realized what it sounded
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: like when he said what he said, he probably immediately
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: regretted it. I'd even go as far as to think
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: he'll probably publicly admit that he regrets the poorly used
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: phrasing and whatnot. I would expect that to happen. Um,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: here's the bottom line. Mike Elko is a really good coach.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Nothing in my mind has changed about that. Mike Elko
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: is a fiery competitor. They're not getting what they thought
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: they'd get out of this team. They spent a lot
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: of money on this team and they are deficient in
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: so many places. And, um, I think they'll get it fixed. Okay.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: But you need to know in this world, Mike Elko
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: is paid. He's a 10 plus million dollar a year guy, right?
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: You don't get paid that. because you can coach a
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: sport really well. You get paid that because you're in
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: the entertainment business. That's why college football coaches make what
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: they make, and then lacrosse coaches make what they make,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: all due respect to lacrosse coaches. Lacrosse is not a
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: multi-billion dollar entertainment industry in this country. Football is. And
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: when you're a head coach, you're not paid what you're
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: paid because you can diagram. You can X and O.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: You're paid what you're paid because you do something and
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: you're the face of of a brand that a ton
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: of people emotionally invest in. The same people that you
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: may rightfully look at as toxic and as non-additive to
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: your success are ironically the reason you even get to exist.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: So it's just part of what comes with the paycheck.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: And I think Mike Elko gets that, but it doesn't
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: make you any less pissed off when you have to
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: deal with it. So that's all that came through there.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: But just To give you an idea of what Tex-Ags
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: is like, there was a thread on Tex-Ags today about
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: whether it was possible for Texas A & M to
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: fire Mike Elko with cause because calling out Tex-Ags could
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: be a breach of his contract. Nowhere else but college
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: football does this exist. It's so beautiful. Houston drug Kansas State.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: The wrong team was favored in this game. The model
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: said it. I said it. And shockingly, we were right
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: for once. They had already been road tested. Houston had
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: already gone into Lubbock and almost come out with a win.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: They weren't going to be phased by going into Manhattan, Kansas.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: All due respect to those guys. Also, there was a
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: big coaching mismatch in this game. And I think the
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: world of Colin Kline, too. Look at the void he's
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: left in College Station, Texas. But Willie Fritz has been
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: around the block ten times, and Colin Kline just moved
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: into the neighborhood. And they got worked yesterday. Total offensive
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: balance for Houston. I almost dropped the paper.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Clean game for Connor Wegman. Their first seven drives in
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: this game, Jesse, 75 yards, 64 yards, 75, 81, 7,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: 3 and out there, 76 and 67. It was 35
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: to 9. Game was over. Then there was just some
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: window dressing late. So good on Houston. I think they're
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: a big, big, big factor in the Big 12 race
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: and the playoff race right now. They've got the fifth
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: best odds to win the league because they have a
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: conference loss. But a lot of these other teams are
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: going to play each other eventually. UNLV was another one
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: of those games where the model thought the wrong team
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: was favored. Dan Mullins somehow scored 13 points and beat
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: North Dakota State in the Fargo Dome. That's tough to do.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: This was tough for Week 8 implications. I'll just be
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: real with you. I think College Game Day was going
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: to Albuquerque for North Dakota State, New Mexico, if North
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Dakota State would have just won this game And they didn't.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: The script writers did not get the memo, man. So
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: Boise now becomes the favorite amongst G6 teams to make
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: the playoff, followed by New Mexico. What does that say
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: for the number three team there? I can't read it.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: That says James Madison. Oh, wow. Thank you, Prez. And
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: then UTSA and Memphis. Ugly game. I mean, Jackson Arnold
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: was the winning quarterback here, even though wins technically are
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: not a QB stat. He was 8 of 16 for
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: 77 yards. No touchdowns, one pick. And a pick six
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: was the only touchdown that UNLV scored. Gross, but beautiful.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: They got the win. Purdue eviscerated Minnesota. Minnesota was coming
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: off back-to-back wins, and it just turns out that it
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: set them up to get Odomed. Yeah, no one's saying
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: it yet, but they should be. They got Odomed. Double
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: do down spot, and now we got a padlock stat.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: This is what getting Odomed feels like, Jesse. Getting outrushed
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: 305 to 27. Just boom, boom, boom. They sunk the boat.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: They didn't row the boat. I have not been paid
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: to say any of this, by the way. But I
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: would be open to it. No, that would be unethical.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: So that's it. That's the end. When you outrush someone
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: 305 to 27, that's it. Purdue's three and three. I
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: don't think you need to talk to your children about
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: Purdue yet, but you need to prepare to have a
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: conversation about Purdue. Because they're three and three. One of
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: their losses was by two points to a good Wake
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Forest team. Another one of their losses was by 14
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: to UCLA on the road. Respectable. They did get thrown
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: in the wood chipper against Notre Dame, but whom's to
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: us hasn't. And now they're going to play a really
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: bad Washington team this week, just looking for the season
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: to end. And then they go to Penn State off
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: a bye. You're going to get arrested, Purdue, Jesse. Are
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: you ready for Barry Odom with time to prepare? Nope.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I don't think you are. All I'm saying is I
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: don't think Purdue's done winning these games. And their over-under
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: win total was 3.5 to start the year. We're in
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: danger of the over hitting before Halloween. Ole Miss did
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: some bad, borderline unspeakable things to Vanderbilt yesterday. There was
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: a splattering in Nashville. Arrested Ole Miss. Turns out that's
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: nothing to mess with. 42-3 at halftime. This was one
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: of those things where I looked at the score and
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: thought it was a typo. You know how the scoreboard
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: malfunctions on these websites every now and then. And I thought,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: surely this is not 42-3 at the half. And then
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I went to look at the drive chart. Do you
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: realize that Ole Miss scored 42 points in the first
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: half and they punted and had a three and out
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: in the first half? That's hard to do. They also
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: had touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown. They had five offensive
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: touchdown drives in the first half. They scored in some
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: other ways, obviously, mathematically as well. Just total body bag here.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: There's not much else to say other than Ole Miss
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: is still very much a factor in Vanderbilt. It's not
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: so much. And Iowa, I don't want to overlook what
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: happened on Friday night in Seattle. Washington's terrible, man. Washington
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: was disinterested in what Iowa brought to the table. And
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: that's a bad thing. Because when Iowa comes to town,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: they are going to throw a bowling ball at you.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: And you can't flinch. You can't put up a weak wrist.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Or you're just going to get hit in the face
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: with a bowling ball. And the bad part about it
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: is they make you play four quarters, and unfortunately Washington
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: signed up for 60 and had no idea what they
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: signed up for. I'm shocked that the score was even
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: this close because there was a lot of garbage time
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: scoring here. Iowa is plus 390 to make the playoff. Again,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with your internet. I'm just pausing so
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: you get comfortable with the idea that a 5-1 Iowa
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: with at least according to this... A very workable schedule remaining.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: I was trying to think of who's ranked and who's not.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: We'll talk about the AP in a second. Iowa's got
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: a path, Jesse. A little question and answer at quarterback, too.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Iowa's got a path. Another loss that happened this week,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: and we all suffered this one. We all lost this
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: weekend because we still have to deal with college football officiating.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I don't remember a weekend where officiating was this glaringly
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: horrible in a long time. One of the worst Saturdays
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: I've seen for college football officiating. The Big Ten alone
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: was a disaster. I don't even mean necessarily like a
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: missed holding call or a questionable PI call. I mean
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: like fundamentally not understanding the mechanisms of the rulebook. They've
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: already had to put out a statement about this UCLA-Oregon
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: game where they misspotted the ball at the end. The
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: Michigan State offsides call, very reminiscent of how the screwjob
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: went down on Minnesota a couple of years ago. Go
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: look at the LSU-Kentucky game. Horrible. Virginia Tech-Cal was terrible.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: I was at the Georgia-Bama game. Just like a dereliction
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: of officiating duty. That's how bad it was. And guess
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: what happened at the end? Not a single person had
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: to answer for anything. Maybe if you're lucky, we'll tweet
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: a graphic out the next day where we admit we
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: got some things wrong, but that's it. Nothing's really going
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: to change. And there'll be no accountability. Oh, they'll tell
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: you that they hold the officials accountable behind the scenes. Yeah,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: they'll tell you that. But look, here's what you need
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: to understand. We're guarding nuclear codes here in college football.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: We can't actually let these people be accountable for their decisions.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: It's just too serious. Oh, wait, never mind. We're playing games.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: We're playing football games. It's a sport. So really, we
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: could be more accountable. We just don't have to be
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: because no one says so because there's no central authority
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: in this. And we're going to continue to do this really,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: really backwards thing where we have these various heads of
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: officiating and all these conferences and there's no consistency. I
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: go to a Big Ten game and the thing's done
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: in two hours, 45 minutes because there are no flags thrown.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: I go to the SEC and it's a four and
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: a half hour marathon because there's laundry on the field
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: every other play. And I'm like, how is this even
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: the same sport? How are these people even calling this
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: the same sport? From a rules enforcement perspective, officiating, I
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: got to watch myself. I think what they do is
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: very hard. And I think officials, by and large, do
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: a good job. It's just that sometimes they suck. And
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: when a player sucks, they get called out and they
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: even have to answer for their play. And when a
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: coach is terrible, they've got to step to a podium
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: and answer for their play. When officials are terrible, ghost.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: They're gone. Here's what happens. Here's what happens. There is
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: this mysterious process that no one gets to be privy to,
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: and they'll review it, and then there'll be grades, and
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: there'll be guidance given out. And I'll tell you, I
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: talk to a lot of these dudes. Weekly.
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: Weekly.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: I talk to heads of officiating. I actually don't talk
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: to heads of officiating at all. They don't want to
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: talk to us. I talk to officials themselves. And those
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: guys admit when they'll get it wrong. But also what
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: they'll do is they'll make sure and let you know, look,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: there's a lot that you don't know. And sometimes it's
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: kind of trying to account for themselves. And I get
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: all that. But other times it's just like the whole
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: thing needs to be burnt down and rebuilt from scratch.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Like the whole mechanism needs to be. So those were
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: some winners. losers this week. I got to warn you
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: about something, mainly the live chat. I need to warn
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: the live chat about something. You know, two weeks ago,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: we started a practice around here where the AP poll
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: comes out around lunchtime on Sunday. And in the interest
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: of getting a video recorded and out before the live show,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: we record like around four o'clock in the afternoon, we
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: record our AP reaction video and we put it out.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: It's literally on the YouTube channel right now, if you're
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: watching live or you're watching the replay. But what we
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: also do because I know a lot of you just
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: like watching the entire show, or you like listening to
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: the entire podcast instead of just the individual clips, is
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: we'll also take that segment and we'll put it at
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: the end of the live show. Like right now, it's
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: 824 Central. We're live right now. We're live, pal. For
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: some reason, there is like a group of people who
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: just kind of in a feral manner wander the live chat,
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: and they get really, really bent out of shape when
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: something pre-recorded plays. even though there's no discernible difference in
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: the content. For some reason, if it's prerecorded, it's evil.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: I'm about to play something for you that's prerecorded that
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: we did earlier today. I also want to remind you,
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: if you're watching, thank you for subscribing, man. Got about 100,
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: 200 of them during the show. Please continue to do
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: so as the drive to 600K continues. All right, without
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: further ado, and I want to be clear about this,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: some prerecorded content from a whole two hours ago. Roll it, Bradley.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: AP poll week seven's out, Jesse. The paper's still hot.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: That's how fresh it is. Presented by Ram. Show them
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the truck, Bradley. It's like the green screen thing in weather.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: I always get confused. I'm backwards. LSU's still ranked. Is
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: this correct? Yes. LSU's still number 22. It's not even borderline.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: It's not even fringe. And a lot of you have
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: taken exception to this because you saw Kentucky. take down
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: LSU yesterday. Of course, you saw Ole Miss take down
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: LSU earlier in the season. And I got to say, I'm,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: I think, kind of on board with you guys. Because
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: if you look at the resume, yeah, the two losses
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: are two currently presently ranked teams on the road. Kentucky's
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: 15 now. Ole Miss is 9 now. So you could
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: even say they're two losses, two ranked teams, top 15
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: teams on the road. That's true. And I'm not saying
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: LSU hasn't faced some difficult competition there. But if we're
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: going to apply the criteria equally, you know, we don't
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: do the selective thing. If we're an AP voter, which
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: we are not here, and we're going to apply the
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: same logic, don't we have to find the wins? Because
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: at the end of the day, you do have to
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: do something of note. So what is that something of note?
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: What is that win? All caps, W-I-N. What is that
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: peg that you're hanging your hat on on the LSU resume?
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Is it the Clemson win? Not really. It was a splattering,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: but that's not something that you're taking special time to
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: write mom at home about, and neither is the A &
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: M win, because both of those teams just kind of
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: look like not-so-secret garbage. So what are you hanging your
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: hat on? So I agree with you guys, because a
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: lot of you, I think it was by about a
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: 3-to-1 ratio, were more outraged than LSU being ranked than
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: anything else in this thing, so I agree with that. Also...
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: You got that tweet someone sent us about UCLA? Because
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I think maybe our guy Dylan here is on to something.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: He said if UCLA had an SEC patch, they'd be
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: top eight. But Dylan, I go a step further. I
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: think if UCLA had a Big Ten patch, but it
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: was Michigan or Penn State or some other well-established brand name,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: I think even then they'd be ranked higher than they
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: are at 12. Now, there is pushback, like if you're
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: an AP voter or you're just someone who disagrees with Dylan,
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: you could say, yeah, but there's a reason they're not
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: being treated like a premier top 10 team right now
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: because they don't have a premier top 10 kind of resume.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: What shoots holes in that, obviously, is you've got Notre
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Dame number two. So you're going to have to selectively
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: apply logic and craftsmanship. here. And if you just admit
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: you're doing that, that's okay. The people who don't admit
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: they're doing it, that's where you dig yourself into a
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: little bit of a hole. Because if you look at
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: UCLA being undefeated, you could pick apart this resume, but
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: no more so than you could do Notre Dame's resume. So,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: so far, They got a win at Cal, San Diego
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: State they took down, Purdue. Jesse may be a better
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: win than we thought at the time. At Maryland, I
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: think Jesse and I went and beat Maryland last week.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: And then they go to Oregon yesterday. Now that was
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: supposed to be the crowning achievement, and anyone who's mad
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: that UCLA's not ranked higher is going to say, you're
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: only discounting our win against Oregon because we're UCLA. Because
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Indiana went up there last year, and they got a
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: ton of run from that. That's true. I think people
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: respected that Oregon team more. I think people respected the
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: manner with which Indiana won that game thoroughly more. I'm
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: talking about them. I'm not saying me. I think I'd
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: probably have UCLA higher, but I don't vote in this thing.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: I put out the commissioner's poll. It comes out Thursday.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: We'll see where we have UCLA. But I think the
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Oregon win just feels hollow to a lot of the voters.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Like at the end of the day, I think that's
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: what they'd tell you. They would say something like this.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: The sentence would start with a variation of acknowledging UCLA
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: won the Oregon game, but. And then they'd say, following
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: the but, Oregon's not really what we thought they were.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: So they're just telling you, well, UCLA hasn't really accomplished anything. Well,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: here's the problem. If you don't already think they've accomplished anything,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: I don't really know on their schedule the rest of
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: the way where they're going to convince you. Because the
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: rest of the way is Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nevada, at Minnesota, Illinois,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: at Michigan, USC. Maybe we get to the tail end. Maybe.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: And Michigan's got a pulse. Or USC's. That USC game,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: by the way. That thing looks pretty interesting. Thanksgiving week.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: Rivalry week. So, UCLA's got a shot to be Indiana.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: But not Indiana last year. Indiana 2024. You remember, Kurt
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Cignetti comes on the scene. Year one. with some transfers
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: from JMU, just like Bob Chesney has. They played a
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: schedule people did not respect. They ran through that schedule.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: They made the playoff. And all the while, people were
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: waiting for them to get there because they thought to themselves,
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: you get to the Big Ten title game or you
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: get to the playoff. Finally, you'll face real competition. And
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: they did. And that Indiana team came up short against
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: really good teams. We'll see about UCLA. They're playing Wisconsin
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: this weekend. That line's three and a half. More on
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: that in just a second. So Kentucky's below Tennessee. I
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: have no idea why. Seth said the most overrated team
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: here is Tennessee. They have no good wins, no quarterback.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Most underrated is either Kentucky or Northwestern. I'd actually agree
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: on both accounts there. So Kentucky, Tennessee, if we did
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: the blind resume thing, almost certainly If you did not
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: show the logos, Kentucky would be ranked ahead of Tennessee.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: I don't know by how much, but they certainly wouldn't
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: be behind them. Kentucky's best wins at A & M,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: South Carolina, LSU. Tennessee's best wins, Auburn, at Georgia Tech,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: at Arkansas. Clearly the wins are better. If you're comparing losses,
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: Bama beat Kentucky 45-17, whereas Tennessee played Texas to within three.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I got to think that's what people are looking at here.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: But even so, if we're going to do the comparison
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: thing in the loss category, don't we have to do
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: the comparison thing in the win category? Because I would
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: argue these Kentucky wins are a whole lot better than
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Tennessee's wins. And if we did nothing more than kept
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: the resumes the same, but we changed the logos, I
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: would bet I have nothing in my pockets right now.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: If I had money in my pockets, Jesse, you got
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: any money? Yeah, I would bet Jesse's money right now
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: that Tennessee would be ranked ahead of Kentucky in either event.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Tennessee is ranked ahead of them right now because they
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: have their present resume. Tennessee would also be ranked ahead
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: of Kentucky if the resumes were switched. That's just how
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: that works. I don't know what to tell you. It's
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: not Will Stein's fault. It's the fault of Kentucky for
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: not taking football more seriously back in the day, and
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: they didn't get this reputation back. that matters in the
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: minds of many AP voters. What are we thinking with Nebraska?
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Nebraska wasn't ranked last week in the AP, which was
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: a crime they should have been. They were ranked in
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: the Willie C poll. They were ranked in the commissioner's poll.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: The only poll they weren't ranked in is the AP poll,
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: and they're still not ranked in the AP poll. I
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: don't know where I'll have Nebraska Thursday. I will still
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: have them ranked. They should have already been ranked, and
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: what they did yesterday was they played the number five
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: team in the country to within three. Did they lead
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: them early fourth quarter? They led them in the third,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: early fourth. I couldn't remember the exact timing there. Why
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: would you drop? I don't know why you would drop.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: If anything, don't you expect Indiana to more thoroughly handle
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: a team that's floating in that 24 to 28 range?
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: If anything, I thought Nebraska validated themselves yesterday. I think
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: they should have ticked up higher. If you had them
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: number 10, all right, maybe they shouldn't rise then. But
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: if you had them 25, 26, 27, like that range,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: I think they should have jumped. And instead, it looks
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: like Nebraska fell a couple of spots. Now, it's tough
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: because if you scroll, they're in the others receiving votes category.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: So 26, 27, 28. They're 29th in the AP right now.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: What were they, Jesse? Like 26, 27, something like that.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: They were on the borderline last week. So people dropped them.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: We're so married to wins and losses. From a rankings perspective.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: In the NFL, they don't have rankings. But in the NFL,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: it's your record. That's it. Because everyone plays a pro
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: team every week. In college, it does not matter how
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: many statements get put out. It doesn't matter how many
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: advanced analytics and how many other tools there are at
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: your disposal to be able to look past just a
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: raw win-loss record to more thoroughly judged teams. They're still
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: riding with wins and losses. And it boggles my mind
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: every week. The Big 12 feels really unsettled to me
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: as I look at this poll. So, right now, You've
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: got Brigham Young at 8. Texas Tech's 10. Utah is 11.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: And then you go down a little ways, and there
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: is Oklahoma State at 18. And I've got to tell you, Jesse,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Houston's at 20. Oklahoma State's 18. I know Oklahoma State
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: lost to Tulsa. That's not a conference game, firstly. Secondly,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: I really think that's clouding the vision, not just of
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: AP voters, but Dude, I'm talking to FanDuel Mike. I'm
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: talking to the folks who are setting the numbers. Like
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: the Big 12 odds right now at FanDuel still look,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: if you didn't know any better, like there's a solid
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: 1-2-3 that's kind of in the order here. It's like
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: the Brigham Young, Texas Tech, Utah group. And then there's
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: like this secondary group where you have an Oklahoma State
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: or a Houston. I don't know how you watch Big
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: 12 games right now. and think that Oklahoma State's not
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: right there, or that Houston's not right there. Now, the
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: difference is Houston already played at Texas Tech, so they've
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: got a conference loss, but they spanked Kansas State yesterday.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: But Oklahoma State doesn't have a conference loss. And correct
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong, Jesse, Texas Tech's got to go
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: to Stillwater, and that's coming up pretty soon. So I
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: think there is a little bit of a reckoning coming
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: in the Big 12. It's good that they have the
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: teams ranked. I'm not arguing that There are ranked teams
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: here that shouldn't be here. I guess I don't even
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: have a problem maybe that Oklahoma State is where they are.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: I'm more projecting with this. And I'm just thinking to myself,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: it's funny that the odds market kind of reflects this
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: right now. And I don't think it should. Now, I
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: don't run a sports book. FanDuel does. So I can
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: put my money where my mouth is. And I have.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: Because I'm with Oklahoma State right now. I'm with Houston.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: If not to win the league, to have much better
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: shots at winning the league, respectively, than are currently reflected there.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: I mean, it sounds like I'm trashing FanDuel. I'm not.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: That's actually how a betting market works. FanDuel is the
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: exclusive odds provider of the show, of Pate State, of
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: our entire campus and university. Fictitious in nature. But right now,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: at FanDuel... Before I give you the Ramen Noodle Express,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: which went 7-4 yesterday. Good day. Could have been better.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: I feel like we were robbed. Could have been better.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: Right now, new customers who bet $ 5 at FanDuel get
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: $ 50 in bonus bets every day for five days. It
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: sounds like I spoke out of turn. I didn't. It's
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: right here. This is like new copy paper. It's really thick.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: It's like a sheet of plywood, basically. New customers, just
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: listen to me closely. You go over there, new customer,
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: you can sign up, fanduel.com slash joshpate. New customers who
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: bet $ 5 get 50 in bonus bets every day for
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: five days. So I had stats and info run the numbers,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: and it turns out 50 times 5 is 250, Jesse.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: So we're talking about $ 250 in bonus bets just dropped
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: into your account for betting a grand total of $ 25.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: That runs all of October. So get on that.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: Must be 21 plus and present in select states. For Kansas,
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: in affiliation with Kansas Star Casino or 18 plus and
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: present in DC. First online real money wager only. $ 5

- 1:38:20Speaker 2: this weekend, as for the Ramen Noodle Express, this may
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: seem treacherous. This may seem a little risky.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: But no more risky than thinking UNLV should have been
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: favored over North Dakota State. No more risky than thinking
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: Houston should have been favored over Kansas State. Those were
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: games that we were on last week where we thought
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: the wrong team was favored. The model Jesse thinks the
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: wrong team may be favored in, drumroll please, Wisconsin versus UCLA.
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: After that big win against Oregon, UCLA's coming home. They're
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: the toast of the West Coast. Maybe the toast of
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: the country. Toast of the West Coast, pretty good t-shirt.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: But Wisconsin is a three and a half point dog here.
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: And the model thinks Wisconsin should be a short favorite.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Believe it or not. So we are going to take
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Wisconsin plus three and a half. Now this is a
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: do down spot also. Wisconsin, by the way, Jesse, what'd
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: they do yesterday? How did they do? How did they fare?
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I don't really think we heard a whole lot about
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: Wisconsin yesterday. And there's a reason for that. Do you
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: know why? Yeah, they were rested. They just slept yesterday.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: So they're going out to the Rose Bowl. They may
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: travel halfway decently out there, too. I know they do
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: when it's an actual bowl game. So give me Wisconsin
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: plus three and a half. We'll have several more best
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: bets on the Ramen Noodle Express throughout the week. What
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: a show, man. What a weekend. I would argue from
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: a viewability standpoint... Maybe an overall Chalai rating standpoint, the
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: best weekend we've had so far. Don't miss shows this
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: time of year. Don't miss shows. We'll be back Tuesday night.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: Got another huge week coming. It's full predictions on Tuesday night.
