- 1:55Sean McAllister: Let's spin that wheel.
- 2:04Dayna Roselli: Welcome everyone to Vegas Revealed, episode 138.
- 2:07Dayna Roselli: Dana Roselli here with Sean McAllister, and we've got a lot to talk about today.
- 2:13Dayna Roselli: This week, we got the very first glimpse of what's being called a new era in Las Vegas Entertainment.
- 2:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, it really is.
- 2:21Sean McAllister: It feels like we're, you know, at the beginning of kind of the next phase of what people expect on stage here in Las Vegas.
- 2:30Sean McAllister: Uh we had breakfast with executives over at Win Las Vegas and the creative team of the new show that was just announced over there.
- 2:38Sean McAllister: It's called Awakening.
- 2:40Sean McAllister: We'll share everything that we learned about this multi-million dollar production coming up in just a few minutes.
- 2:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and there's a lot of firsts in this show.
- 2:49Dayna Roselli: So that's exciting right there.
- 2:51Sean McAllister: Yeah, things you've never heard about relating to Las Vegas shows or really shows anywhere else in the world.
- 2:57Dayna Roselli: This is going to be great.
- 2:59Dayna Roselli: So you'll want to stay tuned for that for sure.
- 3:01Dayna Roselli: But first, a show that we were talking about last week, and we promised we would talk about this week, and that is David Blaine in Spades.
- 3:10Dayna Roselli: His show opened at Resorts World.
- 3:13Dayna Roselli: And just real quick, want to go over the fact that we had mentioned he was there for a weekend.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: He was coming back at the end of October and then back in December.
- 3:20Dayna Roselli: But already, since the show has opened, he's announced more dates in January of 2023 and March of 2023.
- 3:28Dayna Roselli: So you when you hear us talk about it and you go, man, I need to see this, don't worry, there's going to be more opportunities.
- 3:33Sean McAllister: And it really is a great show to see.
- 3:37Sean McAllister: And we were just talking, Dana, about this being a new era of entertainment in relation to the new show at Wynn.
- 3:44Sean McAllister: I feel like David Blaine kind of fits into that new era too, because the way that his show is put together, it kind of like throws out all the rules that you're kind of like supposed to follow when you're creating a Las Vegas show.
- 4:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I think when a lot of us who have been around the block for a while walked out of the show, we were all in agreement.
- 4:10Dayna Roselli: Like, you know what?
- 4:11Dayna Roselli: That was really different, but I liked it.
- 4:13Sean McAllister: And kind of refreshing.
- 4:15Dayna Roselli: It was.
- 4:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, we walked in and David Blaine's like floating around the theater in the sky uh with a bunch of with a like huge batch of balloons.
- 4:25Dayna Roselli: And that went on for what are that like at least like 15, 20 minutes.
- 4:29Sean McAllister: At least, yeah.
- 4:30Dayna Roselli: As people kind of filed in, and you're like, and and the fun part is is you kind of can't figure out what's going on.
- 4:35Dayna Roselli: You're like, is he getting a lay of the land?
- 4:37Dayna Roselli: Is he just floating around to say hello?
- 4:40Dayna Roselli: So you so you don't know what to expect.
- 4:43Sean McAllister: Well, and you know what was funny?
- 4:44Sean McAllister: When I walked in the theater and saw somebody up like strung up with a bunch of balloons, I was thinking, I was like, that's interesting.
- 4:52Sean McAllister: Does he have like uh a clown or a comedian who's warming up the audience before the show?
- 4:59Sean McAllister: But then as I got closer, I was like, no, wait a second, this is David Blaine.
- 5:04Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 5:04Dayna Roselli: We're like, wait, what?
- 5:05Dayna Roselli: And then as soon as he's over you, it's like, hey, and you know what?
- 5:08Dayna Roselli: Everyone's capturing video, which is great.
- 5:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 5:10Dayna Roselli: What a great idea.
- 5:12Dayna Roselli: As he's floating over you.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: Um, so that lasted for a while.
- 5:16Dayna Roselli: And then he kind of goes from the balloon to this what would you call it?
- 5:21Sean McAllister: Like a scaffolding, a beam, yeah.
- 5:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, ladder, whatever.
- 5:25Dayna Roselli: And climbs up, what was that?
- 5:26Dayna Roselli: Seven stories, did he say?
- 5:28Dayna Roselli: Seven eighty feet?
- 5:29Sean McAllister: Almost eight stories, almost eighty feet up.
- 5:31Dayna Roselli: Eighty feet up, yeah.
- 5:32Dayna Roselli: So we're we're waiting, like, well, what's going on?
- 5:35Dayna Roselli: We see a load of boxes, cardboard boxes on the ground.
- 5:38Dayna Roselli: The lights are still on in the theater, by the way.
- 5:41Dayna Roselli: And it's kind of like this thing is getting set up.
- 5:43Dayna Roselli: So it's kind of like you're part of the construction of this stunt.
- 5:48Sean McAllister: Totally.
- 5:48Dayna Roselli: We were there waiting for again for what?
- 5:52Dayna Roselli: Like, I don't even know, like 10, 15 minutes.
- 5:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, probably.
- 5:55Dayna Roselli: Is he okay?
- 5:56Dayna Roselli: So then he says everyone countdown from 10.
- 6:00Dayna Roselli: I'm gonna jump.
- 6:02Dayna Roselli: And we're like, okay.
- 6:05Dayna Roselli: You know what?
- 6:06Dayna Roselli: I might even have that countdown in my phone.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: Hold on, let's play that.
- 6:24Sean McAllister: And he jumped into a pile of cardboard boxes from eighty feet up.
- 6:32Sean McAllister: And I don't know that I think people were like maybe expecting it, but when it happens, my breath was taken away.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 6:42Sean McAllister: I was like, I was like, and like oh my gosh.
- 6:46Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 6:47Sean McAllister: And I felt like that sentiment was carried throughout the show.
- 6:54Sean McAllister: Every time he did something, I was peeking through my fingers as I was covering my eyes, or my jaw was just on the ground or gagging, depending on which act you're you're talking about.
- 7:11Sean McAllister: But I mean, it was it was just, I was in amazement.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, when go to our social media because we do have what it looked like when David Blaine jumped and how he kind of walked out of those boxes without a scratch on him, smiling.
- 7:27Dayna Roselli: And you could see there were some blankets down there too to maybe like you know buffer the fall a little bit, but still, that was crazy.
- 7:34Sean McAllister: Yeah, and by the way, it was a star-studded opening night when we were there.
- 7:39Sean McAllister: Um, Woody Harrelson was there, Edward Norton was there as uh to watch the show, and he also became a part of it at one point as well.
- 7:48Sean McAllister: Getting up on stage and and talking a while.
- 7:51Sean McAllister: Uh Lars Ulrich, uh, Dr.
- 7:54Sean McAllister: Dre, Eminem, uh, Logan Paul, the YouTuber and fighter.
- 8:00Dayna Roselli: I saw him the next night at the Shack fundraiser too at MGM Group.
- 8:03Dayna Roselli: Oh, right.
- 8:03Sean McAllister: He was making the rounds.
- 8:04Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 8:05Sean McAllister: Uh Rob Lowe in town.
- 8:06Sean McAllister: Lots of people were here.
- 8:07Sean McAllister: I know.
- 8:08Dayna Roselli: How did I miss Rob Lowe?
- 8:09Dayna Roselli: I love Woody Harrelson.
- 8:10Dayna Roselli: I didn't see him.
- 8:11Dayna Roselli: I'm bummed.
- 8:12Dayna Roselli: But anyway, I mean, you know, we don't want to go when it's an illusionist, I and something's new.
- 8:16Dayna Roselli: I feel like we don't want to go through every single thing, right?
- 8:19Dayna Roselli: We don't want to give stuff away.
- 8:20Dayna Roselli: But what was different, um, like you you had mentioned also was an intermission, an 18-minute intermission.
- 8:28Dayna Roselli: Be prepared for that.
- 8:29Dayna Roselli: But here's the deal: David says, I'm gonna have to go prepare for my biggest stunt yet in this show.
- 8:36Dayna Roselli: So I need to take an intermission.
- 8:38Dayna Roselli: You guys go do your thing.
- 8:39Dayna Roselli: And you know what?
- 8:40Dayna Roselli: It wasn't bad.
- 8:41Dayna Roselli: It went by fast.
- 8:42Dayna Roselli: People were able to go grab a drink, and then we came back in for what was an incredible stunt where David holds his breath underwater with an alligator.
- 8:54Sean McAllister: In a tank with him.
- 8:56Dayna Roselli: Like, I know it was insane.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: There's so much to talk about, but I kind of don't want to give away.
- 9:03Sean McAllister: Right.
- 9:03Sean McAllister: The one thing that I will say about what makes this show different is that uh you won't find the pacing that you would find at um I'll call it a production show.
- 9:17Sean McAllister: Right.
- 9:17Sean McAllister: This is not this is not the kind it's not a David Copperfield kind of illusion show at all.
- 9:25Dayna Roselli: You know, and David Blaine has done a lot of things where he walks the street.
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: It did feel like you're right, it was like we were all standing on a street, maybe in Times Square, yeah, looking up or watching into and wondering what he was gonna do next, and that kind of thing, and just hearing him talk.
- 9:42Dayna Roselli: It was interesting.
- 9:44Dayna Roselli: We thought it was great.
- 9:45Dayna Roselli: We liked going to something different, experiencing something different.
- 9:49Dayna Roselli: And, you know, welcome to the strip, David Belaine.
- 9:51Sean McAllister: Yeah, I mean, a successful opening, and obviously with added show dates in January and March of uh next year, definitely uh something that the Resorts World was happy with as well.
- 10:05Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: And we did say, gosh, that show was physically, um I'm assuming, and mentally exhausting for him.
- 10:14Dayna Roselli: I can only imagine.
- 10:15Dayna Roselli: So it makes sense that he's doing like I'm looking ahead at the dates, and it's like the 6th and 7th of January, 27th and 28th.
- 10:22Dayna Roselli: It's like you can I can only imagine like two days is enough of what he goes through mentally and physically in that show.
- 10:28Sean McAllister: Oh my god, it would take a lot of recovery time.
- 10:31Sean McAllister: Yeah, I would imagine.
- 10:32Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 10:32Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 10:33Dayna Roselli: So all right.
- 10:34Dayna Roselli: Well, congratulations to David Blaine.
- 10:36Sean McAllister: Moving on to uh the sports world.
- 10:40Sean McAllister: We have a huge NASCAR weekend coming up here in Las Vegas next weekend.
- 10:47Sean McAllister: It's, I mean, it starts with trials on Friday and then moves into a race on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.
- 10:55Sean McAllister: And it's something that draws thousands and thousands of people here, Dana.
- 10:59Dayna Roselli: It really is a great experience.
- 11:02Dayna Roselli: If you've never been to a NASCAR race, you gotta go.
- 11:06Dayna Roselli: The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is an incredible, incredible track.
- 11:11Dayna Roselli: It's the South Point 400.
- 11:13Dayna Roselli: It's happening the 14th to the 16th.
- 11:16Dayna Roselli: We didn't speed, we traveled up to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and we sat down with general manager Chris Powell to talk about everything that you can expect.
- 11:27Sean McAllister: So, Chris, we're a week away from another big race weekend here in Las Vegas.
- 11:32Sean McAllister: Are you excited for it?
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Dane and Sean, first of all, thank you for coming out.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Uh appreciate the exposure you give to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Uh uh proud of the what the Speedway has done, the role the Speedway has played for 20 plus years in the Las Vegas Valley.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And and uh we we feel like we're good corporate partners with the city and we bring a lot of people into town that that enjoy coming here and having a great time.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: And one of the things that's uh so gratifying is that we are selling not only NASCAR racing, but selling Las Vegas and what this city has to offer.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: And so uh it makes it a lot easier as a an event promoter when you can sell these, you know, not only the great racing that we have here at the Speedway, but also the great hotels and the meals and the restaurants and the shows and the uh other forms of entertainment, the gaming and the retail opportunities that families have when they come here for NASCAR.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: And so it's uh it's it's very an exciting time.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Uh you you ask am I excited about next week?
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, because it you know, the my favorite moment is when the the at the right at the end of the national anthem and the Thunderbirds fly over and uh you hit home of the brave and the excitement and the and the green flags about to fall, and you can feel you know how excited the fans are for the for the action that's getting ready to unfold on the racetrack.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: So you're darn right I'm excited.
- 12:55Dayna Roselli: Well, and that's the thing.
- 12:56Dayna Roselli: I mean, you know, great time for the speedway, a great time for NASCAR fans, but like you said, a great time for Las Vegas.
- 13:02Dayna Roselli: And we were just chatting about the difference between, I mean, there's a way, there's two experiences.
- 13:06Dayna Roselli: There's watching NASCAR on TV, but there's kind of nothing like watching it and being a part of the action in person.
- 13:12Dayna Roselli: Talk to me and talk to our listeners about what it's like experiencing NASCAR in person.
- 13:18Dayna Roselli: If you haven't been, or if you have been and you haven't been in a while.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Well, the sights and the sounds are just incredible.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: And uh obviously if you watch it on TV, and so many people do, millions of people every Saturday and Sunday afternoon watch NASCAR and other forms of racing on television, but actually being there and going through the midway before the race, you know, spending an hour or so, not only just the merchandise that's offered out there, but also the form various forms of entertainment.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: And we've had to up our game over the years in order to keep people's interest, not just in the racing, but also when they come to the speedway and they're approaching and they uh you know, it's like when the the the NFL draft came to Las Vegas and the NFL puts out all these displays, all these interactive opportunities for fans, and we're doing the same thing here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and make whether it's music out on the bands playing on the midway and various driving opportunities and we'll have uh drifting going out on out on the midway.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: And so we just try to keep people's attention.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: You know, our our attention spans as we know are just not quite what they used to be twenty or thirty years ago.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: And so you gotta keep people entertained from the moment they get on the property until they leave.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: And so then when you're out in the grandstands after you've we our approach is let's make it so when people sit down in their seat, the green flag's about to fall, they've already gotten their money's worth.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: They've had so much fun already on the midway and with the pre-race entertainment and then the Thunderbirds and the and the national anthem.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: And so by the time the green flag falls, we want people to feel like, well, I've already had a great day, even if the race were to stop right now.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Which of course it doesn't.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: 267 laps of the South Point 400 later, and people are just exhilarated because of the power, the competition.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: You know, you y occasionally we get out on the highway and we look down and we're going 75 or 80 miles an hour and we're going a little bit too fast.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: You think about these guys are going three times that in some cases.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: They're going you know, 100 to 200 miles an hour down the back stretch.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: It's uh incredible.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: And they're not just doing it by themselves, they've got uh 40 or so other young men and women who are trying to get in front of them.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So I mean, the it it is they're they're risking so much and it is so exciting, and it just makes for a tremendous opportunity when you're actually on the property and in the arena as opposed to sitting at home on the couch.
- 15:49unknown: Yeah.
- 15:50Sean McAllister: And you talk about the the sights and the sounds that people experience here, but there's a feel too.
- 15:55Sean McAllister: Isn't there a rumble that you feel through your whole body that there is no way you can experience at home?
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: I mean it just it w when you think about you you just hear one race car fire up and it's pretty loud, but when you've got forty or so of them and they're they're they're they're waiting to the they've gentlemen or drivers start your engines and then they all pull off pit road and they take two or three pace laps and they're going about fifty miles an hour and you th you it just builds up and it builds up, and then when they're all hitting the throttle, it's just amazing.
- 16:29Dayna Roselli: It really is.
- 16:30Dayna Roselli: And you guys have a lot of things.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: Was I looking at s some of the the facts about what's going on that weekend that people can go for free on Friday night to watch what some of the qualifiers are practiced?
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: We've got Xfinity the for the ALSCO 302 uh qualifying on Friday late afternoon, and we're gonna have a lot of things going on here on the Midway.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Uh we call it now the fan fan zone or fan interactive area.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Uh so we've got things going on all day on the midway area and then qualifying practicing qualifying late in the afternoon, and that's gonna be free because we're not actually promoting an actual race as in a green flag and and and and uh X number of laps and then the checkered flag, but rather practice and qualifying.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: So we decided let's bring out some young people, some kids who otherwise might not be able to afford to be able to come and it and it's all free and experience what's on the midway and all the excitement, even in the neon garage.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: So so the fans get that opportunity for free on on Friday, and then Saturday is the Alsko 30 Alsko Uniforms 302.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: And uh we've got some local competitors who will be competing in that, Noah Gragson and uh Riley Herbst.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: And then that's the X-Finity race, which is sort of the triple-A baseball to the Cup Series of uh that'll compete on Sunday.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And that's on Sunday is the South Point 400, Michael Gone and everyone at the South Point great friends of us at the Speedway, and we just appreciate their involvement so much.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Ryan Grownie, Sally Gaughan, on down the line.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: They all uh work really hard throughout the year.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Our people meet with with them throughout the year to make sure that this one weekend is gonna be so special.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: And both of these races, uh both the Saturday and Sunday races, are in the playoffs, the NASCAR playoffs.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So they're the the drivers have just even more motivation to to lay it all on the line because uh they're in the playoffs and they're uh each t each three races they pare down a few more uh competitors so that uh we'll end up at the end of the season with one champion.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: But uh so this race will play a big role in who uh uh proceeds on through the playoffs in NASCAR.
- 18:43Sean McAllister: So with tens of thousands of fans coming into town for uh this weekend of racing, uh do you have anything new uh that's going on that people maybe haven't experienced here in years past?
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Well, Sean, each year we try to do a few new things.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we rely on the some of the same old things, such as the transporter parade coming up the Las Vegas Strip, which always seems to get people's excited, and you'll you'll see thousands and thousands of race fans out there on the Las Vegas Strip, and they they cheer for the cheer the transporters, the drivers that they they love and they boo the ones they don't like, and so it it it really is like a mini race in its own right.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Um the oak uh the the the Raiders uh Devontae Adams is going to be the pace car driver, so we're excited about that.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: And and he did a little video for us and and expressed so much excitement that he has for for coming out here.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I can't imagine being able to do that to drive the pace car.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: I just I'd give anything to be able to do it myself.
- 19:42Dayna Roselli: Come on, you can't pull any strings.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: I'm not quite the celebrity that Devontae Adams is.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: One of the things that we're doing here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during our October race from the starting this year, is to honor one driver, one legendary driver from yesteryear.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: And so the first uh driver that we're going to honor in in 2022 is the guy who won here at the first NASCAR Cup Series race back in 1998, and that's Mark Martin, Hall of Fame member from that uh NASCAR's Hall of Fame.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: And so Mark will be here along with not only that, but the race car that he competed in right here at Las Vegas in 1998.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: We found he doesn't own it.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Jack Rousse, his team owner, that does not no longer own it.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: A young man in uh Maryville, Tennessee purchased it in an auction a few years ago and has restored it to so it looks exactly like the car that Mark drove here in 1998.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: And our friend Chris Klein, who's on our charity board, happens to own the uniform that Mark Martin drove in 1998 when he was here.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And so we'll have that on display as well, as well as the race car.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And so we're gonna have Mark out at the South Point on Thursday evening for a party that fans can attend.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: They can meet Mark, uh, talk to him about the the glory days of his uh of his career.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: So we're very excited about that, and we'll be announcing during race week this year which legendary driver we will honor in 2023.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: So we'll be excited about that announcement as well.
- 21:20Dayna Roselli: Listen, I uh told you I I went to a race and it was not what I expected.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: You're right.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: It is for everyone, it's a lot of fun, and it's a day, it is an enjoyable day, and the weather's always good, and it's just it's just all around fun.
- 21:32Dayna Roselli: If we want tickets, we go to where?
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: LVMS.com and log on.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: And uh we've got all kinds of specials running and we've got a few good good seats left.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: So they or they can call uh 1-800-644-4444.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Now you talk about yesterday.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: That's yesterday buying tickets over the phone because now you can you know go to your laptop and and and purchase them in in no time flat.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: The uh the Neon Garage offers an entertainment.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Option during our race weekend where fans can see the drivers and the teams up close as they prepare the cars to battle out on the racetrack.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: And so that's a kind of option that you don't get at many other racetracks is the Neon Garage.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And plus, we have entertainment out there all through the weekend and incredible concessions offerings.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: So so many things to do here during an event weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, Chris.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Sean Dana, thank you for having me.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Look forward to having you out here.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I I know a good guy who can get you tickets.
- 22:32Dayna Roselli: All right, tickets.
- 22:34Sean McAllister: Ready to feel that rumble.
- 22:35Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 22:36Dayna Roselli: I didn't want to pick up the phone and call.
- 22:40Sean McAllister: And Dana, I just want to note that uh in our uh conversation with Chris Powell, I don't know if um, you know, our listeners will be able to hear it, but there were jets flying by during our interview because the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is uh pretty close to Nellis Air Force Base, uh, you know, in the northern part of the Las Vegas Valley.
- 23:03Sean McAllister: And while we were sitting in in Chris's office, I could definitely hear those jets flying by.
- 23:08Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah, I could too.
- 23:09Dayna Roselli: And like the walls were shaken.
- 23:10Dayna Roselli: It was cool.
- 23:10Dayna Roselli: It's a home to the Thunderbirds, if you didn't realize that, everyone.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: So we have so much going on in Las Vegas.
- 23:16Dayna Roselli: It's such a great place.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 23:17Dayna Roselli: I mean, we've already talked about, you know, a new show that opened, uh, NASCAR coming to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, all the activities for everyone.
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: Some of them free, some of them are ticket, but the weather's been beautiful.
- 23:29Dayna Roselli: And now we get to talk about a new show coming to the win.
- 23:32Dayna Roselli: We talked a long time ago during the pandemic about a show that had closed at the win, and it was La Rev.
- 23:39Dayna Roselli: Great show.
- 23:40Dayna Roselli: And involved water, a beautiful theater in the round.
- 23:44Dayna Roselli: And we always wondered what's going in there.
- 23:46Dayna Roselli: Well, now we know the answer.
- 23:48Dayna Roselli: You had mentioned last week or the week before that this show has really been hush hush, and it's called Awakening.
- 23:54Sean McAllister: Yeah, then the only thing really that had leaked out about what to expect from this show was the name Awakening.
- 24:05Sean McAllister: We did other than that, we knew absolutely nothing about what this show was going to be.
- 24:12Sean McAllister: We did know that there were a lot of renovations happening inside of the win theater where La Rev used to take place.
- 24:21Sean McAllister: And just to give you an idea of the theater, it is in the round.
- 24:24Sean McAllister: The stage is in the middle, uh, all of the seating is in a circle around the edges.
- 24:31Sean McAllister: Um, and it's a beautiful space.
- 24:34Sean McAllister: So we knew that that was going to have a refresh for this new production, but had no idea to the extent it was going to be renovated.
- 24:44Dayna Roselli: No.
- 24:45Dayna Roselli: And they're like, this was a lot of work.
- 24:48Dayna Roselli: We're excited about it.
- 24:49Dayna Roselli: Everyone's gonna be amazed.
- 24:52Dayna Roselli: Uh it's still in the round.
- 24:53Dayna Roselli: I was happy to hear that though.
- 24:55Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 24:55Dayna Roselli: Because we we liked that part about you know, part of it.
- 24:58Dayna Roselli: The water is gone from the La Rev show, but they're still using that center area.
- 25:04Dayna Roselli: There's so many statistics and factoids we learned that uh we're gonna run through them all.
- 25:10Dayna Roselli: But we sat down with Baz Halpin, Bernie Human, Michael Curry, all the producers of Awakening coming to the win.
- 25:20Dayna Roselli: And the way they described this and their passion for it and their vision as we had an intimate breakfast with them was we can't stop talking about it.
- 25:31Dayna Roselli: Like it was so interesting to hear their inside take of how this show was created.
- 25:36Sean McAllister: Yeah, and just to um, you know, pause for a second and give you an idea of who uh uh the creative team is, Baz Helpin is the producer director.
- 25:46Sean McAllister: He uh I mean, kind of produced, created uh Katy Perry's residency show over at Resorts World, which is uh incredible.
- 25:58Sean McAllister: Uh he's done the Taylor Swift tour, he did uh Pink's Funhouse Tour, has been like so deeply involved in just about every facet of the entertainment industry.
- 26:12Sean McAllister: Uh Michael Curry is well known for doing large-scale puppetry.
- 26:18Sean McAllister: He did the puppetry for the Lion King on Broadway, which has you know traveled the country and the world and is visually breathtaking.
- 26:29Sean McAllister: Uh, he's done the puppetry for Olympic opening ceremonies and is also the person responsible for that lion that Katy Perry rode into the Super Bowl on back in 2015.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, the resumes are incredible.
- 26:46Sean McAllister: Listen, we could sit here for an hour going through the resumes of all the people involved, but they are the who's who of live theater, music, Broadway, Hollywood.
- 27:00Sean McAllister: These are the it people.
- 27:03SPEAKER_04: The enormity of this project is hard to fathom and harder to put into words.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: You put the work in, you get the results.
- 27:11SPEAKER_05: And we put the work in.
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: And we're about to show the world what we've done.
- 27:18SPEAKER_04: Everybody on this show wants to leave their best work on the stage.
- 27:23SPEAKER_04: What's unique about Awakening is that we have the world's best storytellers.
- 27:29SPEAKER_05: It surely must be the most technically advanced show on the planet.
- 27:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and we sat across from Rick Gray, who is in charge of entertainment operations at the win.
- 27:42Dayna Roselli: He's the general manager, been there a long time, knows what he's doing, that's for sure.
- 27:48Dayna Roselli: And then Bass Halpin.
- 27:49Dayna Roselli: And we had so many questions for them.
- 27:52Dayna Roselli: I kept spewing out questions, and I feel like I'm just gonna kind of like go through my little list because I would be like, How many cast members are in the show?
- 28:00Dayna Roselli: And he was like, 60.
- 28:02Dayna Roselli: And I would get all the answers, and then I said, Well, how many crew members?
- 28:04Dayna Roselli: About a hundred.
- 28:05Dayna Roselli: And so 160 cast and crew in this show, which is a huge number.
- 28:11Sean McAllister: It's incredible.
- 28:13Dayna Roselli: Then he talked about what the sound system, right?
- 28:16Sean McAllister: Uh and the sound system in in here is going to be spectacular, is all that I can imagine, because they had to create it from scratch.
- 28:24Sean McAllister: What they wanted in this theater did not exist.
- 28:30Sean McAllister: So they worked with a world-renowned uh audio specialist to create what is now being called Win Sonic.
- 28:40Dayna Roselli: Isn't that cool?
- 28:41Sean McAllister: The Wynn created their own sound system.
- 28:44unknown: Yeah.
- 28:44Dayna Roselli: So there's 4,000 speakers in the theater.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: They were saying it's the greatest sound bar none like ever in a theater.
- 28:54Sean McAllister: Why would with 4,000 speakers?
- 28:56Sean McAllister: I'd hope so.
- 28:57Sean McAllister: Jeez.
- 28:58Dayna Roselli: So that sounds incredible.
- 29:00Dayna Roselli: And by the way, I should backtrack real quick and say the show is narrated by Anthony Hopkins.
- 29:07Sean McAllister: I mean, an Oscar winner, you can't beat it.
- 29:10Dayna Roselli: Recognizable voice.
- 29:11Dayna Roselli: He's gonna it's gonna be so good, right?
- 29:13Dayna Roselli: And then to hear that voice crystal clear, I can't wait to see what they're gonna do with that.
- 29:17Dayna Roselli: So then we asked a little bit about the stage, and he went through this whole process.
- 29:23Dayna Roselli: Like, you know, obviously we're gonna have to see it, but the way he was describing it, he was saying, well, the stage is made of glass, it's three layers, it's uh sits on a structure made of colored glass, kind of like a sculpture.
- 29:35Dayna Roselli: Every section is a different shape.
- 29:37Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah, by the way, there's a video screen on it.
- 29:39Dayna Roselli: It's like, I don't even know, it's blowing my mind.
- 29:42Dayna Roselli: We're like, what?
- 29:43Sean McAllister: By the way, glass bridges are going to be coming out of the walls, and things will be coming down from the ceiling, and uh it's just if you go to our Vegas revealed social media, you'll see the first footage that's been put out of Awakening over at Wynn Las Vegas.
- 30:02Sean McAllister: It's like combining the most spectacular elements of stage, screen, comics all into one show.
- 30:11Sean McAllister: And by the way, getting back to the stage, Dana, um, we're told that this is the most technologically advanced stage in the world.
- 30:20Dayna Roselli: Isn't that incredible?
- 30:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and they were saying, I mean, they want this show is going to be a show that you can only see in Las Vegas, by the way.
- 30:29Dayna Roselli: You know, that's the goal.
- 30:30Dayna Roselli: Like you gotta come to Las Vegas and see this show.
- 30:34Dayna Roselli: And when you say in the world, yeah, you can't go anywhere else to do that or to see this stage.
- 30:40Sean McAllister: And and something else is that I was struck by are the costumes in the show because they were very specific about the fact that they did not just want the kind of costumes that you would find on Broadway or the typical costumes that you would see in a theatrical production.
- 31:01Sean McAllister: They wanted couture level garments that people are also dancing in and doing stunts in, that kind of thing.
- 31:11Sean McAllister: But they said that that the wardrobe for this show could be off of any runway in Paris or Milan or New York.
- 31:21Dayna Roselli: I mean, man, they were there's so many nuggets.
- 31:24Dayna Roselli: I don't even know.
- 31:25Dayna Roselli: Yes, that.
- 31:27Dayna Roselli: And then how many casting calls that they went all and and we asked, you know, is a lot of the the performers are the I should say, a lot of the performers uh from around the world, and they said, no, this is different than La Rev and Cirque du Soleil.
- 31:39Dayna Roselli: We actually did casting calls all around the United States over and over and over again, and most of our cast members are from within America.
- 31:49Sean McAllister: Yeah, and I know a lot are uh from Las Vegas as well, which is great.
- 31:54Sean McAllister: So Awakening uh is opening to the public really soon on November 7th.
- 32:00Dayna Roselli: Tickets are on sale now.
- 32:02Dayna Roselli: The show's 75 minutes, okay?
- 32:04Dayna Roselli: They say it's a perfect time.
- 32:06Dayna Roselli: There's gonna be two shows a night.
- 32:08Dayna Roselli: It's Tuesday through Saturday.
- 32:10Dayna Roselli: It'll be dark on Sunday and Monday.
- 32:13Dayna Roselli: It's gonna be spectacular.
- 32:15Dayna Roselli: Sean and I will be at the opening.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: We can't wait to tell you more.
- 32:18Dayna Roselli: You know, it's a 1600-seat theater, so I expect once this gets out and once people see this, that they are gonna have no problem filling those seats.
- 32:30Dayna Roselli: It sounds incredible.
- 32:32Dayna Roselli: A conversation we had with them about kind of the eras of entertainment.
- 32:37Dayna Roselli: I feel like maybe we do we want to talk about that now, or maybe we save that this topic for another podcast.
- 32:42Sean McAllister: Let's save this topic because I feel like it's I feel like we could go on for yeah 15 minutes on it.
- 32:48Sean McAllister: Right.
- 32:49Sean McAllister: Yeah, there's so many cool nuggets and pieces.
- 32:52Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 32:52Dayna Roselli: And it was interesting because as we were chatting with them, we were talking about the types of entertainment that have come and gone, the eras that we've been through.
- 32:58Sean McAllister: So we will Yeah, we'll put a pin in that.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: Quickly wanted to mention I went to an incredible fundraiser at MGM Grand inside the Grand Garden Arena.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: Shaq always has his huge gala for the Shack Foundation.
- 33:12Dayna Roselli: This year, man, it was a beautiful event as usual.
- 33:18Dayna Roselli: Um, also wanted to mention the concert that they had as part of this because a lot of people were looking at social media going, holy cow, they had some great people.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: Uh, Marin Morris performed.
- 33:29Dayna Roselli: I'm a huge fan after seeing her live.
- 33:31Dayna Roselli: I've always liked her music, but I guess I just didn't, it didn't connect for me to ever see her live.
- 33:37Dayna Roselli: But wow, she's fantastic.
- 33:39Sean McAllister: She is.
- 33:39Sean McAllister: And I had just seen her the weekend before at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
- 33:43Sean McAllister: And I'm same thing.
- 33:45Sean McAllister: Like, wow, she's great.
- 33:47Sean McAllister: She is great.
- 33:48Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that was a joy to see.
- 33:49Dayna Roselli: Pitbull came out and killed it as usual.
- 33:52Dayna Roselli: Pitbull just like raises the roof.
- 33:55Dayna Roselli: He is so much fun to watch perform live with his dancers, and you know, we fireballed and all that.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Fire fireballed.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was one of them.
- 34:08Dayna Roselli: That was great.
- 34:09Dayna Roselli: Her performed, she was fantastic, a little bit slower than some of the upbeat music.
- 34:14Dayna Roselli: But and then Maroon 5 and Adam Levine came out and performed, and it was a big deal.
- 34:18Dayna Roselli: It's made headlines because it was uh Adam Levine's first performance on stage since this whole direct message social media scandal, and you know, he's married and he was reaching out to other girls, and we don't really need to get into all that, but it was a headline.
- 34:34Sean McAllister: And by the way, Maroon Five also just announced a residency.
- 34:38Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 34:40Dayna Roselli: But his wife was there.
- 34:44Sean McAllister: Being his Vegas chaperone.
- 34:45unknown: Yeah.
- 34:47Dayna Roselli: Listen, um, no mentions of anything.
- 34:50Dayna Roselli: Even Joe McHale is the you know, yeah, host and comedian.
- 34:54Dayna Roselli: He introduced him.
- 34:55Dayna Roselli: I mean, it was, you know, no mentions of anything.
- 34:59Dayna Roselli: Anyway, it was there in Maroon 5, you know, hit after hit after hit.
- 35:03Dayna Roselli: It was actually a really good show.
- 35:04Dayna Roselli: It was fun.
- 35:05Dayna Roselli: Um, at one point, Shaq got up there and actually sang with Adam Levine.
- 35:09Dayna Roselli: So that was quite a moment.
- 35:10Dayna Roselli: I have that on my Instagram as well, if you want to see that.
- 35:13Dayna Roselli: Um, it's just a good time, great fundraiser, and a great cause.
- 35:17Dayna Roselli: Happy to be there.
- 35:18Dayna Roselli: They raised, uh, I don't know, at one point they were over, well over a million.
- 35:22Sean McAllister: Oh, geez.
- 35:23Sean McAllister: Isn't that incredible?
- 35:24Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 35:24Dayna Roselli: And it was the uh, they call it the the the Shack event.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: Um, but the Shaquille O'Neal Foundation, if you want to get more information, you can go to ShackFoundation.org.
- 35:35Dayna Roselli: And they basically, you know, create pathways for underserved youth, help them, you know, achieve their full potential.
- 35:41Dayna Roselli: So I love that two weeks in a row we're talking about foundations that help at-risk youth.
- 35:47Dayna Roselli: So that's amazing.
- 35:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, if you don't know, there's a lot of philanthropy that happens here in Las Vegas.
- 35:53Sean McAllister: It's a very giving community.
- 35:55Sean McAllister: Um, it sounded like there were lots of hits on stage at that charity gala, and Rod Stewart is gonna continue to bring his hits to the stage at Caesars Coliseum, uh, adding 13 shows of his residency over there at Caesars Palace.
- 36:11Sean McAllister: The Rock Icon will be performing in May and November of 2023.
- 36:18Sean McAllister: So we'll look forward to having Rod back on stage.
- 36:20Dayna Roselli: And Ed Sheeran is coming to Allegiant Stadium.
- 36:23Dayna Roselli: I love this.
- 36:24Dayna Roselli: He's doing a huge tour and it's gonna stop here in Las Vegas.
- 36:27Dayna Roselli: It's not till September 9th of 2023, but heads up if you want to get tickets to see Ed Sheeran.
- 36:34Dayna Roselli: So that'll be uh definitely, I think, a sellout in no time.
- 36:38Sean McAllister: Now that you're up to date, let's get to tips.
- 36:40Dayna Roselli: All right, here we go.
- 36:46Sean McAllister: Dana, everyone loves a free attraction in Las Vegas, right?
- 36:51Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 36:51Sean McAllister: And they're kind of I won't say they're going by the wayside because we still have plenty of them, but like the pirate ships at Treasure Island have gone away.
- 37:02Sean McAllister: Um we've obviously talked about reports that the volcano in front of the Mirage will be going away once Hard Rock fully takes over that property.
- 37:13Sean McAllister: Uh, but one attraction that I'm not sure a lot of people know about is at an off-strip property called Sam's Town.
- 37:23Dayna Roselli: I had no idea when you told me about this.
- 37:25Dayna Roselli: And then you showed me video, and I was like, what?
- 37:27Dayna Roselli: This is like the coolest thing ever.
- 37:28Sean McAllister: Well, it's pretty cool, yeah.
- 37:30Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so I mean, I love this.
- 37:31Dayna Roselli: It's free, right?
- 37:32Sean McAllister: This is a free attraction uh over at Sam's Town in their hotel lobby atrium.
- 37:39Sean McAllister: They have what's called Mystic Falls.
- 37:42Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 37:42Sean McAllister: It's like this, they have so many trees.
- 37:46Sean McAllister: It feels like you're walking through a forest in their uh atrium, and you follow these pathways and get to this big mountain, this giant rock with waterfalls coming out of it.
- 37:59Sean McAllister: And at scheduled times in the evening, Mystic Falls comes alive, and there's a howling wolf on top, there's a grizzly bear that stands up and roars, there's a bald eagle, there's an owl that's hooting at you.
- 38:15Sean McAllister: And there is a fountain show, fountain and laser show that is it's kind of like a mini Bellagio Fountains.
- 38:24Dayna Roselli: It sounds great, and you said it's not even short, right?
- 38:27Dayna Roselli: It lasts a little while.
- 38:28Sean McAllister: It kind of goes, I mean, we went over Shane and I went over there, and there's a bar in the atrium, too.
- 38:34Sean McAllister: And we were like, you know what?
- 38:35Sean McAllister: Let's just go grab a drink.
- 38:36Sean McAllister: We'll sit and watch the show.
- 38:39Sean McAllister: And I mean, it was it was good.
- 38:43Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I love it.
- 38:44Dayna Roselli: The video you showed me was impressive.
- 38:46Dayna Roselli: I'm like, I want to go.
- 38:47Dayna Roselli: And I also want to tell my friends with kids, go check this out.
- 38:50Dayna Roselli: It's free, you know.
- 38:52Dayna Roselli: And so Samstown is on the east side, Boulder Highway.
- 38:55Sean McAllister: Boulder Highway, right?
- 38:56Dayna Roselli: Right, yeah, and you know, it's a little off the beaten path, but not far from the Las Vegas Strip, or, you know, not far if you live on the east side.
- 39:05Dayna Roselli: Really, if you live in Henderson, it's close by too.
- 39:07Dayna Roselli: So this is an option.
- 39:09Dayna Roselli: Mystic Falls, free show over at Samstown.
- 39:12Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 39:13Dayna Roselli: Tip number two, though, Sean, we're gonna stick at Sam's Town because why not?
- 39:17Dayna Roselli: And you told me about this, and I thought, okay, our listeners need to know because we love a good meal deal.
- 39:23Sean McAllister: We do.
- 39:24Sean McAllister: And uh in uh all clarity, I have not personally tried this meal deal yet.
- 39:32Sean McAllister: However, it is high on my to-do list.
- 39:35Sean McAllister: Uh, but it's a steak and lobster dinner for$19.99.
- 39:43Dayna Roselli: What?
- 39:44Sean McAllister: That's like old Vegas prices.
- 39:46Dayna Roselli: That's under 20 bucks.
- 39:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah, under 20 bucks.
- 39:48Sean McAllister: Steak and lobster dinner.
- 39:50Sean McAllister: Now, they offer this at TGI Fridays inside of Samstown from 3 to 6 p.m.
- 39:59Sean McAllister: and then again from 10 p.m.
- 40:02Sean McAllister: to 1 a.m.
- 40:04Sean McAllister: So if you're an early bird or a night owl when it comes to your meals, when it comes to your dinner, this one put it on your to-do list.
- 40:14Dayna Roselli: So is it like because TGI Fridays is like a chain.
- 40:16Dayna Roselli: So is it only at this location, probably?
- 40:20Sean McAllister: I would imagine it's a special deal for the Sam's Town location of TGI Friday.
- 40:27Sean McAllister: I've never seen that uh on any Friday's menu.
- 40:30Dayna Roselli: This is great.
- 40:31Dayna Roselli: So we got to try that.
- 40:32Dayna Roselli: We said we'll we'll go over and try it at some point, right?
- 40:35Dayna Roselli: And check it out, and then we'll do our review of the steak and lobster.
- 40:38Dayna Roselli: How much lobster do you get?
- 40:39Dayna Roselli: How much steak do you get?
- 40:41Dayna Roselli: All that stuff.
- 40:42Sean McAllister: I know, but listen, for under 20 bucks, you can't beat it.
- 40:46Dayna Roselli: That's for sure.
- 40:47Dayna Roselli: Love it.
- 40:48Dayna Roselli: Thank you, Sean.
- 40:48Dayna Roselli: Two tips from Sam's Town.
- 40:50Dayna Roselli: That is a show we've gone through so much.
- 40:53Dayna Roselli: And download the brand new Vegas Near Me app.
- 40:56Dayna Roselli: It is officially out, and we're thrilled about it.
- 41:00Dayna Roselli: You need iOS 16 on your phone.
- 41:02Dayna Roselli: You can download it.
