- 3:24Speaker 1: So good morning Facebook.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And I can't see who's on Facebook.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So good morning Facebook.
- 3:29Speaker 1: God is amazing.
- 3:30Speaker 1: He is so good.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Can I just tell you something?
- 3:33Speaker 1: So the title of today is Taming the Tongue, a Biblical take on careless talk, otherwise known as stop running your mouth.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I couldn't put that in the title, but the reason this is such good timing is two things.
- 3:50Speaker 1: One, we are closing this year, so we got a few more weeks left in December and we are still believing in God for some amazing things.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You know, while we talk about December being a month of miracles, you know 12,.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You know we look at the number 12, and we're coming to the, this kind of the closing out of what's been a really hectic, productive.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Some of us have had a good year.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Some of us have had not so good a year, but this is also the time where you're going to be coming around more friends and family.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Maybe your colleagues you haven't seen in a while.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Maybe you're more, you're more engaged in the public because you're out doing your shopping and all your things.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Maybe your parents and you're picking up your kids, and so you're you're interacting with just different people.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And this is also the time of year that we're trying to.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Although we're closing out December, we're already looking about, looking ahead to say, oh man, what do I want my 2024?
- 4:46Speaker 1: What do I want next year to yield for me?
- 4:48Speaker 1: How do I want to enter into 2024?
- 4:52Speaker 1: But before we do that, all the prayers that we said, everything that we're standing and we believe in God for we're also got to.
- 5:00Speaker 1: We got to be mindful about what we say careless talk.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And so the Lord was showing me this as we were moving, you know, around Thanksgiving time, I was talking to you guys about being thankful, but coming from a place of gratefulness not just being thankful for, you know, when things are going great, but even being thankful for the season that we're in, because he was going to move us to purification.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So we moved into a period where he was really just, you know, shaking things up in our lives.
- 5:28Speaker 1: A lot of us have had some uncomfortable changes or the Lord was revealing things to you in areas of your life where you need to do some work me included, right, but it was all so that we would have a good setup.
- 5:40Speaker 1: A good setup meaning that he was putting us in a, in the right place for the layup for 2024, so that it wasn't you weren't being set up to be taken down.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It was a layup for 2024.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And so here we are today where he's now shifting us to careless talk.
- 5:56Speaker 1: So I want to share a couple of verses and then I want to share some of the words insert, words that I got from the Lord and why, again, this is so important.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So I'm going to drop some of these verses in the room, but I'm also going to walk through a Bible store.
- 6:10Speaker 1: We're going to take it back to the word y'all.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So we see why this is so important.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So I'm going to start with Proverbs 18.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I'm going to drop this one in the chat because it's easier and it's just.
- 6:21Speaker 1: It's just easy to do this one, so I'm going to drop it in the chat for those of you who don't have it.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And so the first, the first verse that comes up is Proverbs 18, verses seven through eight.
- 6:32Speaker 1: This is the ESV version, the A Shelly version.
- 6:37Speaker 1: A fool's mouth is his ruin and his lips are snared to his soul.
- 6:41Speaker 1: The words of a whisperer, so like.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So now think about gossip, right, the words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Y'all can't wait to hear the gossip.
- 6:50Speaker 1: They go down into the inner parts of the body and I think about this.
- 6:55Speaker 1: When you're around people now and you know folks are gonna feel free to share their thoughts on other people, otherwise known as gossip, and being mindful that you're not.
- 7:05Speaker 1: You're not in those, you don't even need to be in those conversations, but this is so important that you're not.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You're not attracting that, so people don't.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You know, people should know that I'm not the one to come to gossip about anybody.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You come to me if you want to pray for somebody, amen, but just being mindful, because that is careless talk.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And if you're the one that's doing it, this is a time for you to ask God to forgive you and then stop, right, because the words of verse says it's like it's delicious mortal morsels If you have things going on in your life and you're not in a good place and yet it's.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:39Speaker 1: They say that people like to hear other people, you know, being taken down.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It's all over social media.
- 7:44Speaker 1: We watching other people take other people down.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Don't fall.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Don't fall into that pit of whispering and gossip, right, that's.
- 7:53Speaker 1: That's an example of a careless talk.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And y'all, sometimes we do it and we don't even know we're doing it because, you know, maybe a colleague just wants to, wants to vent, right, I want to vent, I just want to get some things off my chest.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Now I'm telling people go tell Jesus, because he didn't tell me to answer you.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Right, there's a difference between when you're, when you're trying to get quote unquote get some things off your chest and you start crucifying other people in that conversation.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So, again, as we're, we're trying to do things that that are fruitful.
- 8:24Speaker 1: We're planting seeds in December that we're going to be, we're going to be reaping in January, february and March and the rest of the year.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So we're talking about careless talk today, all right.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So the next verse I want to share, before I go deeper into the, into the word is Ephesians 4-29.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Y'all, please read the word.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Don't ever don't take what I tell you.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit works through me to give you the word, but he still wants you to go back in the word and do your own study.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So, ephesians 4, verse 29,.
- 8:54Speaker 1: This is the ESB.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Again, it says let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth, but only such as is good for building up as fits the occasion, as fits the occasion, as fits the occasion.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm going to lean on that one that it may what give grace to those who hear.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So here's, here's, another example of even sometimes, you know, maybe it's not talking about another person, but it's how you're talking about yourself no corrupting talk come out of your mouth, whether it's about somebody else, but even how you're talking about yourself, right, only such as is good for building up.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Now, there's a difference between your building yourself up through speech where it's not prideful, it's not meant to be condemning to other people, right?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Amen, as fits the occasion.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Why I'm leaning on this is because he shows me this and he's like Shelby.
- 9:52Speaker 1: There are times when nothing should come out of our mouth.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We just need to be quiet.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So, as fits the occasion, there's going to be talk.
- 9:59Speaker 1: There's going to be a lot of talk right now, and there are times when you just need to be quiet.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It is not the occasion for you to say anything.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Right, and let God, like he, you know, give grace to those who hear.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Amen.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I'm going to raise this comment talking about timing the pink tornado to help us.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Lord, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in my sight.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We are, amen, thank you.
- 10:23Speaker 1: We are.
- 10:24Speaker 1: We are literally creating the environments that we're in.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Remember, I come on.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I tell you, all the time when I come into an environment, it must shift.
- 10:33Speaker 1: For me, it's not just because I'm a daughter of the king, but it's also what I say.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So when I come into an environment, if I come in and you guys something nasty, come in, I'm not going to be there because that is not the environment that I fit in, right?
- 10:47Speaker 1: So you believers, you know that I gather around watercoolers, you're out to lunch with your friends and you're sitting with folks who are watching to see what you say, some of y'all.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It is not the occasion for you to say anything at all.
- 11:00Speaker 1: All right, sometimes you gotta let God do the talking.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You say nothing and you listen.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So let me tell you about this, the study that I was doing in Matthew 26.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And this is Peter's denial of Jesus, and I'm gonna share my screen because I think you're really gonna appreciate taking a look at this in a different way.
- 11:21Speaker 1: All right, so let me make sure I get the right one, y'all, so y'all don't come from me because I showed you the wrong chapter, the 26.
- 11:28Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna share my screen.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So Peter denies Jesus, and I think a lot of us.
- 11:34Speaker 1: We know this story.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But if you don't know the story, I'm gonna share it to you.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But I'm gonna show you this in another perspective, in the way that the Lord was showing me.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So we know and I'm gonna contextualize this a little bit, so forgive me, it's not gonna be the exact words Peter was sitting outside the courtyard and a servant girl came up to him and said you also were with Jesus the Galilean, but he denied it before them all, saying I don't know what you mean.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Now remember before this, so go back and read the rest of the word that Peter, that Jesus told him that he was going to deny him three times, right?
- 12:08Speaker 1: So the Lord had already said, prophesied, spoke, said that you're gonna do this thing, you're gonna deny me three times.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So Peter was like no, we'll never do that.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Well, here we come.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So he denied it before them all saying I do not know what you mean, and he went out to the entrance another.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So he tried to leave that situation.
- 12:28Speaker 1: A second time.
- 12:29Speaker 1: He went out to the entrance.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Another servant girl saw him and she said to the bystanders this man was with Jesus of Nazareth.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And again he denied it with an oath.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I do not know the man in oath.
- 12:41Speaker 1: You know what an oath means.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Right Now he's putting some different level of authority behind it like a swear.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Okay, I do not know the man.
- 12:50Speaker 1: After a little while, the bystanders came up and said to Peter certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you.
- 12:58Speaker 1: The way you speak betrays you.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I know you've been around Jesus because your accent, your words, betrayed you.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I wanna be in listen.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I wanna be in such a situation that when I speak, people can say my accent, my accent betrayed me because I have had such a commune with Jesus.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Right, certainly you too are one of them, for your accent betrays you right Accent ties to your location.
- 13:25Speaker 1: His location was with Jesus.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So in verse 74, he began to evoke a curse on himself.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Right, he started to swear I do not know the man, he's livid.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Right and immediately the rooster crowed and Peter remembered the saying of Jesus.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Before the rooster crowed, you will deny me three times.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And what did he do?
- 13:46Speaker 1: He went out and went bitterly.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Now let me tell you something about this verse in a different way.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Here we have Peter walking with the Lord.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He vehemently, vehemently promised Jesus.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He's never gonna deny him, even if it meant he was gonna die to death.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Then, after Jesus is arrested, peter falls in for a little bit to the high priest courtyard and he's recognized as a follower of Jesus, carried the accent of Jesus.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And each time he denied knowing Jesus.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But you can see that it started to escalate.
- 14:27Speaker 1: The first time he just said no.
- 14:28Speaker 1: The second time he was kind of in his field.
- 14:31Speaker 1: The third time he was swearing.
- 14:32Speaker 1: He was swearing and completely, completely denying.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Then the rooster crowed.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's what Jesus predicted, or not predicted, but he prophesied that this would happen.
- 14:43Speaker 1: He denied him three times before the rooster crowed, twice right.
- 14:46Speaker 1: And Jesus remembers the words that Lord's, that God gave him.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So this is one of those examples that is the impact of fear on our speech.
- 14:59Speaker 1: He's in a situation where he's been tested and he'd allowed himself, through careless talk, to not just curse Jesus, curse himself, totally, deny the Lord.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Careless talk, and you can see that it escalated Now because he was afraid right, because he was afraid he started to deny Jesus, he allowed himself to speak these careless words.
- 15:29Speaker 1: This is important because a lot of us, a lot of us, don't know how to respond when there's pressure and there's fear and that can lead us to agreeing to some things and saying some things about our very selves.
- 15:45Speaker 1: That's why I started out with gossip, because that's the easiest way for me to help you understand that there are situations where you put yourself in and you're in that group.
- 15:56Speaker 1: That gossip, sometimes it's again, it's not just on the job, sometimes it's within your family.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You're talking about Auntie So-and-so who's preparing for Christmas, and you're already talking about who she is and what she's gonna bring and what she didn't do and what the nephew didn't do, and all those things and that the impact of your speech.
- 16:17Speaker 1: So in Peter's case, he responded with careless talk, responding to fear because of the.
- 16:23Speaker 1: He knew that he could potentially be killed because they just went after Jesus, and so he allowed fear.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He allowed fear to control his talk and he ended up cursing himself and cursing the Lord.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Now he was saved after that because he repented.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So there's a way that you can, you know, fix this thing.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But that's important.
- 16:47Speaker 1: That's important for us to see it, to understand it.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Matthew 12, 36 says I tell you, on the day of judgment, people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified or by your words you will be condemned.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So I was asking the Holy Spirit why do we need to understand this right now?
- 17:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna drop this in the chat, y'all, to see you see the verse for yourself Matthew 12, 36 to 37.
- 17:17Speaker 1: On the day of judgment, you will give account for every careless word that we speak, because by our words will be either justified or condemned.
- 17:29Speaker 1: So we're going into the job today, or maybe we're going into the store today.
- 17:33Speaker 1: We're going wherever today, and this is a time where you really need to think about what you say.
- 17:39Speaker 1: What we're saying now, in the month of December, is gonna get us ready for the rest of the year and for 2024.
- 17:45Speaker 1: We're creating right now what's gonna come next year, right, and I want us listen.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I want us to end this year with testimony after testimony after testimony, and I want 2024 to be a one that's blessed for you and filled with harvest.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I want you to see the goodness of the Lord and the land of the.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I want your families to prosper.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I want you to be happy.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I want you to come into the goodness of God and to be able to testify to how great God is.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I want y'all to be encouraged that the words that you speak those are the words that you speak Don't say anything that's outside of the word or what God says he has for you.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I don't want you to condemn yourselves Right Even what you say about your, your, your situation, your kids, your marriage, your finance.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Thank you, father, that I am blessed.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I thank you, lord, that you have secured me.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Lord, that everything you've started you've finished in me.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Lord, I thank you that you've sent your angels to protect me and my family.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Lord, you know I mean even if you're not feeling well.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Lord, I thank you that by your stripes I am healed If you come into a situation where you're being tested and crushed.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I'm begging you, don't, don't look at even looking at those situations when you are in pain.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now I have been in back pain for at least a week, but you know what I'm still saying.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Lord, I thank you that I am healed, that you have woke me up this morning.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Not, you know, I'm not flipping it to say, oh, woe is me.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Heavens, come on, you gotta be careful with your word.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Don't be careless with these words.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Lord, I pray that you bless the words coming out of my mouth.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But those of y'all who are, you know, looking at the Lord and saying, father, stretch me more, stretch me, give me more grace, well, he's gonna show you, he's gonna purify you and he's gonna tell you about your words.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You gotta be careful what you say.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Don't condemn other people around you.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Bless them, bless them, but also understand that it's not just saying it.
- 19:40Speaker 1: You gotta believe these things in your heart, right, your heart, because your mouth is gonna reveal what's truly in your heart.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So this isn't a bandaid where you can just say the say the right things and your heart is condemning people.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Amen, oh man, this is amazing.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But y'all, this is our layup for 2024, because we have blessings coming, but we've gotta be sure that we don't corrupt the blessings before they get here.
- 20:06Speaker 1: You're no longer cursed, you are blessed, right?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Stop fighting those generational curses.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Start declaring, thank you, lord, that you have blessed my family.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You have blessed me for generations.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Start declaring those things over yourselves.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So when we come into 2024, our testimonies are gonna be amazing.
- 20:26Speaker 1: God is so good y'all, isn't he amazing?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Just be careful what you say and if you don't know what to say, don't say nothing.
- 20:32Speaker 1: The Holy Spirit is my advocate.
- 20:34Speaker 1: That's what he was reminding me this morning in the kitchen.
- 20:37Speaker 1: He said I'm your advocate, shelley, you don't have to say nothing.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Isn't that amazing?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Sometimes we gotta let God be God and let Him fight for you.
- 20:46Speaker 1: You don't always have to say something.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So, father, we thank you that you have shown up, as always, lord, we thank you for reminding us of the importance of what we say.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And, lord, we just repent right now for words that we have spoken, even what we've seated in our hearts, lord, god, even in our thoughts, things that were negative, things that were bad, things, that were condemning other people, condemning colleagues, condemning managers, condemning our spouses, condemning our kills kids, even condemning people who don't look like us, condemning people of other faith, condemning people because they don't believe what we believe.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Father, forgive us for these things.
- 21:21Speaker 1: This is not of you.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Father.
- 21:23Speaker 1: We thank you that you love us, that you have given us mercy.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Father, give us your grace to do better when we speak.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Father, I thank you that the Holy Spirit instructs us and is our advocate so we don't have to fight these battles.
- 21:35Speaker 1: We thank you for the example in the story with Peter denying Jesus and showing us that, even if we are in fear, that we don't allow careless talk to curse other people and curse ourselves.
- 21:47Speaker 1: We thank you, lord, and we bless everyone who's under the sign of my voice, live or replaying, for decades to come and years to come.
- 21:54Speaker 1: We thank you, god, for everything.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Amen, y'all, amen.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I just missed the.
- 22:00Speaker 1: There we go.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Praise the Lord.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Help us to guard our mouth Exactly.
- 22:04Speaker 1: No mindless talk.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Listen, if you don't know what to say, don't say nothing.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Ok, let people talk about you, it's OK.
- 22:12Speaker 1: People are going to talk about you, it's all right.
- 22:15Speaker 1: They're gossip about you, don't worry about it, but you don't say anything to curse.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Amen, amen, all right, y'all.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That's what I had.
