- 0:11Speaker 2: The World's of Vigeonal podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. I
- 0:21Speaker 2: made the varsity tennis team as a freshman, so I
- 0:23Speaker 2: got my jacket, went to a dance and it got stolen.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Who wants my jacket with my name?
- 0:29Speaker 3: In Hartford, Connecticut?
- 0:30Speaker 4: It's the Lake Cruse sale.
- 0:33Speaker 5: All the stuff on my wish.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry, what a Dutch of its not when you
- 0:37Speaker 1: are under the I do.
- 0:39Speaker 4: They had a great touch of him.
- 0:40Speaker 6: Everybody should have beaten the Chiefs every game, but they
- 0:42Speaker 6: find a way to win. They never cover, like where
- 0:45Speaker 6: you're gonna lay like ten points? Okay, no one would
- 0:48Speaker 6: take Kansas City.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I don't know what that means, but okay, I want to.
- 0:51Speaker 6: Be like Mike do So I'm just being excited all
- 0:53Speaker 6: the time. It's great.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I don't have to go twelve and four anymore. It's
- 0:55Speaker 4: just exciting.
- 0:56Speaker 7: Defense is back, and.
- 0:58Speaker 8: You guys, don't worry that number one cornerback. It's not
- 1:01Speaker 8: going to be there.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Of course, we are worried.
- 1:06Speaker 7: False bravado.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Where's the false bravado coming?
- 1:09Speaker 2: It's not like we're sitting up here go Patriots by
- 1:11Speaker 2: fIF fifty.
- 1:12Speaker 4: That would be false. Come on, you're done, that's ridiculous.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I'm walking out right now.
- 1:19Speaker 7: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:21Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:23Speaker 9: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:27Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:32Speaker 2: at ji Lette Stadium. And yeah, it wasn't a good game.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It wasn't a good game, particularly that second half.
- 1:39Speaker 7: Uh so we're gonna talk about that.
- 1:41Speaker 2: We're going to talk about what they need to do
- 1:42Speaker 2: to get better against the Miami Dolphins. It is Deuce,
- 1:47Speaker 2: it is Evan, it is Paul. We have no locker
- 1:50Speaker 2: room or practice obligations today, so we'll be everybody will
- 1:54Speaker 2: be here for the whole two hours to break this
- 1:57Speaker 2: down and get right. So get right, episode right here,
- 2:02Speaker 2: get right. But I will have to say that the
- 2:05Speaker 2: hysteria that's going on Paul shows and otherwise it's everybody
- 2:11Speaker 2: right now is in a funk. And uh, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 2: it wasn't a good game. But come on, it's week one.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It's week one.
- 2:20Speaker 6: It's like the five stages of a Patriots loss. Yes, right,
- 2:24Speaker 6: so you'll be angry and the immediate aftermath that the
- 2:26Speaker 6: team didn't play well and you sort of address it,
- 2:28Speaker 6: then you immediately just blash out at the media for
- 2:30Speaker 6: being upset about well.
- 2:31Speaker 2: The first the first stage of stages of a loss.
- 2:34Speaker 2: First stage is denial.
- 2:35Speaker 4: And yeah, I left out the referees, car right.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So that's the first stage.
- 2:39Speaker 4: You know, we're saying that, No.
- 2:41Speaker 7: It's we're kidding around.
- 2:43Speaker 6: I think the Raiders just gonna call for another penalty.
- 2:46Speaker 6: Hard to blend the ress of this.
- 2:47Speaker 2: But yeah, it's so let's you know, we talked about
- 2:50Speaker 2: it in the post game show a lot, but it
- 2:52Speaker 2: did seem to me that in the second half Carol
- 2:56Speaker 2: went into the locker room or whoever and said to
- 2:58Speaker 2: his team, we're given and this offense too much respect.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Let's just go Adams. They definitely got more aggressive in
- 3:05Speaker 2: the second half, and the Patriots had problems with that, you.
- 3:10Speaker 7: Know, defense.
- 3:11Speaker 2: The problem with the defense is they just gave up
- 3:14Speaker 2: too many big plays, too many chunk plays. I think
- 3:17Speaker 2: at times they played well against the run, they played
- 3:21Speaker 2: well against you know, the short field, but they had breakdowns.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And we kind of predicted that going into this season
- 3:28Speaker 2: that this was going to be a more aggressive defense,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and when they got when they screwed up, they'd screw
- 3:35Speaker 2: up big or you know, relatively big.
- 3:38Speaker 6: I really well against the run. I wasn't expecting that.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I thought I thought they would be susceptible a little
- 3:44Speaker 6: bit to the run, I thought, and I gave you
- 3:46Speaker 6: your props in the post game. I thought they would
- 3:49Speaker 6: try to really establish Genti and the Patriots took him out.
- 3:53Speaker 6: They did a good job of containing him, but it
- 3:56Speaker 6: was everything else that was a problem.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, don't. I mean, I think a little bit
- 4:01Speaker 4: of separation has been good. And see some of the
- 4:04Speaker 4: other results around the league, and there are a lot
- 4:05Speaker 4: of teams that struggle. Half the team's lost half is
- 4:08Speaker 4: when in fact, I think that's fifty percent exactly.
- 4:11Speaker 10: The team's lost Week one, its loss is well, Miami
- 4:16Speaker 10: always go to a point the h I don't know
- 4:19Speaker 10: if this is a great comparison, but I woke up
- 4:20Speaker 10: this morning and as I like to do when I'm
- 4:22Speaker 10: hanging out, I like to scroll Twitter a little bit,
- 4:24Speaker 10: and I watched the first half of the game last night,
- 4:27Speaker 10: the Vikings and the Bears, and of course Twitter doesn't
- 4:30Speaker 10: work anymore like it just feeds you a bunch of
- 4:32Speaker 10: like tweets from last night, and basically my timeline was
- 4:35Speaker 10: just filled with people saying how terrible to A. J.
- 4:38Speaker 4: McCarthy was and that that was a miss and that
- 4:40Speaker 4: you know, everything needs to be reevaluated and Kevin O'Connell,
- 4:44Speaker 4: and of course, knowing the result of the game, I
- 4:46Speaker 4: was like, are we just a little bit too crazy
- 4:48Speaker 4: about going on to a result? And people are just
- 4:51Speaker 4: so quick to make a complete universal judgment off of
- 4:55Speaker 4: you know, one half, yes or one game, so yes.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Look I think for me, was this the same Patriots
- 5:02Speaker 4: team that we saw, you know, win against the Bills
- 5:05Speaker 4: or you know, lose last year? Like it was losses
- 5:08Speaker 4: all look the same in the NFL. Like you lose
- 5:09Speaker 4: a game, your defense didn't get quite enough stops, your
- 5:12Speaker 4: offense didn't put enough quite enough points. And I think
- 5:14Speaker 4: that's what people are just so quick to say, that's it.
- 5:16Speaker 4: It's the same thing. We're gonna be four win again.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Maybe they will be, but I'm not ready to make
- 5:21Speaker 4: a blanket judgment about this team with you know, a
- 5:24Speaker 4: quarterback who's still very inexperienced. They need some time, a
- 5:27Speaker 4: defense that has a lot of new pieces that's all
- 5:29Speaker 4: coming together. So look, I've seen back to back four wins,
- 5:32Speaker 4: four win seasons, Like it's gonna take a lot to
- 5:35Speaker 4: get me like this really start feeling like we have
- 5:38Speaker 4: some momentum. Again, it hasn't really started yet, but that
- 5:41Speaker 4: doesn't mean that it won't in week two, Week three,
- 5:43Speaker 4: week four, And you need to be patient a little bit.
- 5:45Speaker 4: There's some good things to build off of. It wasn't
- 5:46Speaker 4: all great, but just because they lost this first game
- 5:49Speaker 4: doesn't mean that's it. Drake May has done, Mike Rabel
- 5:52Speaker 4: can't coach. The defense is going to be the same
- 5:54Speaker 4: pathetic thing it was last year. You have to wait
- 5:56Speaker 4: and see, and I'm just trying to be patient. It's
- 5:59Speaker 4: just the start of a long, long year.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I had one person say I'm not
- 6:03Speaker 2: watching another game until they make major changes. They fired
- 6:06Speaker 2: their head coach after one year and basically turned over
- 6:10Speaker 2: the roster and the coaching staff.
- 6:12Speaker 4: So, you know, twenty eight new players.
- 6:14Speaker 7: That's kind of a major team.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah. So again, I'm not happy with this result. There's
- 6:21Speaker 2: very little silver lining that I take out of this game.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I saw some individual plays that I like, but the
- 6:31Speaker 2: team as a whole did not play well special teams, defense, offense.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So there's a lot of improvement that needs to be done.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But it's it's weak. It's week one. It's week one.
- 6:42Speaker 2: As a knock the mouse across the room, so even
- 6:47Speaker 2: I have to take a step back and say, Okay, breathe,
- 6:50Speaker 2: take some deep reaths. Let's go into Miami. Let's get
- 6:53Speaker 2: a win, which, by the way, I'm early guaranteed we're
- 6:56Speaker 2: gonna win this freaking game.
- 6:58Speaker 4: I mean, not to get ahead of it, but it's
- 7:00Speaker 4: a big game. I mean both ways.
- 7:01Speaker 3: It's like, okay, I mean positivity on that side.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I don't want to touch the Dolphins just yet, but
- 7:08Speaker 4: what a huge game. The Dolphins are. They playing to
- 7:11Speaker 4: save their regime right now.
- 7:12Speaker 7: I don't care if they had won this week.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I'm saying we're winning. Yeah, yeah, we'll see, we'll see.
- 7:17Speaker 4: I mean, it's uh, that's gonna be a great matchup.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Chatting about it, Fred was saying the Patriots are going
- 7:21Speaker 6: to win their next game.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yep, I didn't see Who didn't see that coming?
- 7:25Speaker 7: Guaranteeing it?
- 7:26Speaker 4: Guarantee who didn't guaranteeing it?
- 7:30Speaker 6: I'm just bad because I thought the Patriots are gonna
- 7:32Speaker 6: win and they didn't.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm mad.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I think, uh, you know, what you guys said was
- 7:38Speaker 3: was fair. It's it's one game, it's it's week one.
- 7:42Speaker 3: But I don't really care that they lost. The result
- 7:45Speaker 3: isn't what I'm concerned about. It's how it looked like
- 7:48Speaker 3: the the yesterday was a dark day for me with
- 7:51Speaker 3: the offense, like the tape is it was dark, okay,
- 7:55Speaker 3: like they.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Just shut off those lights.
- 7:57Speaker 7: All right, what's the into that?
- 8:00Speaker 2: Because you had your after further view that I hope
- 8:03Speaker 2: everybody they listened, watched and read. If there was one
- 8:07Speaker 2: thing that you would say, okay, if this thing was better,
- 8:12Speaker 2: they would have had a you know, more competitive second half.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Give me one thing, the run game, okay, but that
- 8:21Speaker 2: goes into that is what the blocking.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, we can unpack it. But like just big
- 8:27Speaker 3: picture wise, they are not built to drop back fifty
- 8:30Speaker 3: three times. They can't play that way. Like, I just
- 8:32Speaker 3: don't really envision.
- 8:33Speaker 2: The stats say that most teams aren't. Most teams when
- 8:36Speaker 2: they throw over fifty times lose, But I'm not talking
- 8:39Speaker 2: to you theirception.
- 8:40Speaker 3: They're obviously not going to throw fifty times every game, right,
- 8:42Speaker 3: I'm just saying they're not built to be a high
- 8:44Speaker 3: volume passing game, Like that's just not. They don't have
- 8:48Speaker 3: the infrastructure around Drake made to support that. Like their
- 8:52Speaker 3: line is still a work in progress. The receiving room
- 8:54Speaker 3: is still work in progress. He's still a work in progress.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Like they're just not They're not going to be able
- 8:59Speaker 3: to do to be a high volume passing offense. So
- 9:03Speaker 3: in order to get some of this going in the
- 9:05Speaker 3: right direction offensively, they've got to be able to run
- 9:08Speaker 3: the football.
- 9:08Speaker 2: WHOA, don't start behind.
- 9:10Speaker 6: Yeah, they might just jump in to help Evan out
- 9:14Speaker 6: because you know, Mike my Stat's coming right to help
- 9:17Speaker 6: Evan out a little bit here. They didn't go into
- 9:19Speaker 6: this game thinking that they wanted to throw the have
- 9:23Speaker 6: may attempt forty six pass?
- 9:24Speaker 2: That was the game play.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:27Speaker 6: The reason that they had to do that wasn't because
- 9:29Speaker 6: they fell behind. It was because they couldn't do anything else.
- 9:34Speaker 6: That's what forced them to throw the ball on twenty
- 9:36Speaker 6: two of the final twenty three plays in one.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Score game until midway through the fourth quarter.
- 9:40Speaker 6: Correct, they were never chasing until very very late in
- 9:44Speaker 6: the game. But that's why the numbers got thrown out.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Of whack, but you end up having to throw because
- 9:50Speaker 6: you can't run, and everybody, I shouldn't say everybody, because
- 9:54Speaker 6: everybody gets mad when I do that. I thought they
- 9:56Speaker 6: would be able to run the ball a little bit
- 9:58Speaker 6: more successfully with the change that they made on the
- 10:00Speaker 6: offensive line. The young linemen are all come in with
- 10:04Speaker 6: reputations of being stronger run blockers. For one game, You
- 10:08Speaker 6: guys are right, it's one game. That's where some of
- 10:11Speaker 6: the disappointment lies. They couldn't run.
- 10:13Speaker 2: So you think that they realized we just can't run
- 10:15Speaker 2: or did they not give it enough?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Oh?
- 10:18Speaker 6: No, I think they gave it. I think they gave
- 10:20Speaker 6: it plenty of time they I mean, eighteen carries is
- 10:23Speaker 6: not nothing.
- 10:24Speaker 3: They'rerunning fifteen times in the first.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Half into three times in the second half.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Into a brick wall. And I think the biggest thing
- 10:30Speaker 3: with the run game is obviously it starts and ends
- 10:33Speaker 3: with bocking.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh hold on, if you don't move, do you think
- 10:35Speaker 2: three times in the second half is it?
- 10:37Speaker 6: They didn't have the ball in the second half, or
- 10:39Speaker 6: they went three and out, three and out, three and out,
- 10:41Speaker 6: like you don't have time to like rack up carries
- 10:44Speaker 6: like they didn't do anything. Well in the second half,
- 10:47Speaker 6: they got dominated the last thirty minutes of the game.
- 10:50Speaker 6: I thought toward the end of the first quarter through
- 10:53Speaker 6: the second quarter, the.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Patriots had control of the game. I think they were playing.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Better than the Raiders.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I thought so too.
- 10:59Speaker 6: Now the problem was, in a span of over sixteen minutes,
- 11:05Speaker 6: the Patriots had the ball and at the same time
- 11:08Speaker 6: the Raiders had it for three but they couldn't score.
- 11:12Speaker 6: They couldn't create any separation. I had the numbers here
- 11:15Speaker 6: somewhere in my drive chart. Yeah, sixteen oh seven to
- 11:17Speaker 6: three minutes and fifty seconds over three possessions each side,
- 11:22Speaker 6: and you couldn't take advantage of that. The Patriots had
- 11:25Speaker 6: opportunities to move to finish drives and they couldn't. And
- 11:28Speaker 6: I think Evans reason is why they couldn't run the ball.
- 11:31Speaker 3: If you can't run the ball, like, they're just not
- 11:34Speaker 3: built to be a drop back pass team. They're not
- 11:36Speaker 3: the Bengals. They don't have Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow
- 11:38Speaker 3: and T Higgins like they have a team right now
- 11:41Speaker 3: that needs scheme. They need scheme related conflict. You know,
- 11:45Speaker 3: play action, RPO, you know, things that make the defense
- 11:49Speaker 3: off balance and not really certain.
- 11:51Speaker 2: We talked about this in the post game. Could one
- 11:53Speaker 2: of the reasons be that they're having trouble running the ball?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Is the team other teams don't, aren't worried about getting
- 12:00Speaker 2: beat over them, and they're and they're playing the they're
- 12:03Speaker 2: stacking the box, so they're ready for anything short or run.
- 12:09Speaker 2: They're ready for any of that. And I was thinking
- 12:11Speaker 2: about when Rex Ryan was the head coach of the
- 12:14Speaker 2: Jets and they, I forget what they called it, but
- 12:18Speaker 2: they seem to have a blueprint for the Patriots offense
- 12:21Speaker 2: back then, which I think Josh was the OC back then,
- 12:25Speaker 2: they funneled everything to the middle. They were keeping everything
- 12:28Speaker 2: to the middle of the field, and they felt that
- 12:30Speaker 2: that was the recipe to beat that type of offense.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And if you don't, if you're not worried about stuff
- 12:36Speaker 2: behind you, it's you're playing up. You're ready for any
- 12:39Speaker 2: short stuff. All the screens, by the way, that didn't
- 12:41Speaker 2: work either. The screens in the run play. The running
- 12:44Speaker 2: game was right playing right into the defense that the
- 12:49Speaker 2: Raiders were showing you.
- 12:50Speaker 3: But they were playing two high and three high zone.
- 12:53Speaker 3: So like they they're they're taking away the deep part
- 12:56Speaker 3: of the field with the coverages that they're playing. That's
- 12:58Speaker 3: the Seattle three system. Like they don't want to give
- 13:00Speaker 3: up big plays. They want to make you nickel and
- 13:03Speaker 3: I'm down the field. And when you can't run the
- 13:06Speaker 3: football into those looks, then you turn the quarterback into
- 13:09Speaker 3: Tom Brady. Like, now he's got to stand there and
- 13:11Speaker 3: he's got to pick apart short zones. And May is
- 13:14Speaker 3: just not consistent enough at this point of his career
- 13:16Speaker 3: throwing the football.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Guys getting over it.
- 13:18Speaker 3: But yeah, guys are open, but like he's either sailing
- 13:21Speaker 3: throws or he's passing up underneath throws looking for bigger plays.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And Okay, so I'm going to challenge you a little
- 13:28Speaker 2: bit earlier. I said, you said the one thing I
- 13:30Speaker 2: would improve is the run game. But that run game
- 13:34Speaker 2: wasn't working. So the one thing, from what you're telling
- 13:36Speaker 2: me is Drake May has to be better.
- 13:39Speaker 3: He had the game wasn't working because of their own doing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: He has to be better in that short game to
- 13:44Speaker 2: overcome the deficiency when you can't run the ball.
- 13:47Speaker 3: But he's not. But that's not the type of passer
- 13:49Speaker 3: that he is. So you're like, you're asking.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Shouldn't never yet NFL quarterback be that type of passer.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I've got to take the profit. You got to take
- 13:57Speaker 2: the profit. But like you can't.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Like the run game, I think was not working because
- 14:02Speaker 3: of their own doing. Like the Raiders, their defensive line
- 14:06Speaker 3: did some stunting up front that I don't think that
- 14:08Speaker 3: they were totally prepared for. But once that declared, and
- 14:11Speaker 3: once you saw what they were kind of doing from
- 14:13Speaker 3: a run game perspective, you should be able to adjust.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Like the run game to me had two big issues.
- 14:19Speaker 3: I think the main one was their first level blocking
- 14:21Speaker 3: wasn't good enough, so they weren't getting guys up to
- 14:24Speaker 3: the second level of the defense because there was immediate
- 14:27Speaker 3: penetration on the line of scrimmage. So now like they're
- 14:30Speaker 3: trying to lead tight ends and full backs up to
- 14:32Speaker 3: the second level, but there's guys in their way because
- 14:36Speaker 3: the offensive linemen are getting beat on the line of scrimmage,
- 14:39Speaker 3: So you can't get up to that second level of
- 14:41Speaker 3: the defense. The other thing is is it's just vanilla
- 14:44Speaker 3: like they just they just don't have a ton of
- 14:46Speaker 3: window dressing. There's just not a ton of scheme, there's
- 14:49Speaker 3: not a ton of motion. They were thirtieth in the
- 14:52Speaker 3: league in Week one in motion rate down by the
- 14:55Speaker 3: bottom of the league. Like, to me, it just wasn't
- 14:58Speaker 3: creative or exotic enough, where all you're doing is you're
- 15:01Speaker 3: going under center and you're turning around and handing the
- 15:03Speaker 3: ball off to Ramandre Stevenson. Like it's just not you're
- 15:07Speaker 3: not really creating enough com.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Something you said. I'm not going to accept that. Drake
- 15:12Speaker 2: isn't that type of pass.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You have to, Like, I don't know what we're like,
- 15:15Speaker 3: you're trying.
- 15:16Speaker 2: In the NFL, every quarterback should be able to recognize
- 15:20Speaker 2: and be accurate within ten yards of things that happen.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I disagree.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I don't think a lot of the quarterbacks that you
- 15:26Speaker 3: see nowadays that are really succeeding across the league are
- 15:29Speaker 3: those kinds of guys. I don't think that Josh Allen
- 15:31Speaker 3: plays that way.
- 15:32Speaker 2: When they have to be, they can do it. That's
- 15:34Speaker 2: what that's my point is, Like.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Okay, you know, I don't know what to tell you,
- 15:38Speaker 3: Like he's not there yet, Like he's just not that
- 15:40Speaker 3: kind of guy yet. So if you're going to ask
- 15:42Speaker 3: him to throw, you know, six and eight yard option
- 15:46Speaker 3: routes all game long, he's going to spray the ball
- 15:48Speaker 3: and he's going to misthrow.
- 15:49Speaker 2: If that's what's open to you, if that's how you're
- 15:51Speaker 2: going to have to move it down the field, then
- 15:53Speaker 2: you have to do that. You can't force things. If
- 15:56Speaker 2: they're giving you something, take it until until.
- 16:00Speaker 6: Evan's trying to tell you that that's not my strong suit.
- 16:04Speaker 6: He doesn't.
- 16:04Speaker 4: He lacks some accuracy with some of those throws.
- 16:06Speaker 6: And I think there was a perfect illustration was the
- 16:10Speaker 6: drive after the pick in the third quarter.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Mike.
- 16:13Speaker 6: You talked about this in the postgame show. Easy Drivestarter,
- 16:16Speaker 6: you know, short little sit route for a hunter, Henry,
- 16:19Speaker 6: he missed him by a significant amount. That's not abnormal
- 16:24Speaker 6: for him. He loses his accuracy at the time.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Problem.
- 16:27Speaker 6: Okay, that's a problem for a lot of quarterbacks in
- 16:30Speaker 6: the league. They don't they don't throw the ball like
- 16:32Speaker 6: Brady exactly where they want to won every throw. There's
- 16:35Speaker 6: a lot of guys that Caleb Williams lost his accuracy
- 16:38Speaker 6: at times. Last night I was watching a little of
- 16:40Speaker 6: that and he got off to a great start.
- 16:42Speaker 4: He looked really.
- 16:43Speaker 6: Comfortable, and then all of a sudden he wasn't quite
- 16:45Speaker 6: as sharp. But it's a hard way to play. It's
- 16:49Speaker 6: a hard thing to do. I know, it seems like,
- 16:51Speaker 6: oh well, any NFL quarterback should be able to make that.
- 16:53Speaker 6: My guy drew bledsoe. That was not his strong suit.
- 16:55Speaker 6: He succeeded in the league for ten years.
- 16:57Speaker 2: He was never asked to do it. I don't think
- 16:59Speaker 2: it was a It was a different game back then.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I think May was tight too. It wasn't just that
- 17:04Speaker 4: this was how he is, which he has those kinds
- 17:07Speaker 4: of inconsistency issues, but to me, right out of the gate,
- 17:10Speaker 4: it just seemed like he was on edge, wasn't loose,
- 17:13Speaker 4: relaxed ready, And I don't know why that was.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I agree with that mechanics in this game doesn't look
- 17:19Speaker 3: comfortable or rough. That's you know, that's if my other
- 17:23Speaker 3: big concern like outside, Like to me, May and McDaniels
- 17:27Speaker 3: are the two biggest concerns coming out of this game.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I didn't really particularly think that they.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Are just going to get mad.
- 17:32Speaker 3: I did much with the play calling that I you know,
- 17:36Speaker 3: more so the play design. You know, I was expecting
- 17:38Speaker 3: a little bit more. I thought this was very vanilla.
- 17:42Speaker 3: And I know it's week one, but you know, you
- 17:45Speaker 3: go and you turn on Colts Dolphins, and you're not
- 17:47Speaker 3: seeing vanilla. You're you're not You're seeing a bunch of
- 17:50Speaker 3: different things going on offensively that that's putting the defense
- 17:54Speaker 3: into mines. I think they were a little bit vanilla
- 17:56Speaker 3: with the play calling, and then I think Drake May's
- 17:58Speaker 3: mechanics were not just to for work, like the whole
- 18:02Speaker 3: from head to toe.
- 18:03Speaker 6: What he was seeing and where where is no I actually.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Thought, I actually thought he saw the field decently well.
- 18:09Speaker 3: It was actually throwing the ball with accuracy and precision.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Because I do think that they had some open guys.
- 18:15Speaker 6: I'm often like, well, the receivers don't give him a
- 18:17Speaker 6: lot of help. I think there were some opportunities. I
- 18:19Speaker 6: thought he had some guys open and missed them, whether
- 18:23Speaker 6: he threw it to him or didn't didn't.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Look that the interception, I mean, from my view, it
- 18:27Speaker 4: seemed like if he got out.
- 18:28Speaker 2: A little bit earlier.
- 18:29Speaker 4: I mean, Diggs was clearing in his zone right there,
- 18:31Speaker 4: he was open, and then it was just a little it.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Was a little late and he got You know, I'm
- 18:34Speaker 2: wondering how many how many calls where Diggs was the
- 18:39Speaker 2: primary look, because I think he should be every time
- 18:42Speaker 2: he's out there if it's a pass play.
- 18:44Speaker 6: So that's another one that might be second guessable. I
- 18:47Speaker 6: don't know if this was physical, but he was not
- 18:49Speaker 6: a huge part of this game in terms of I mean,
- 18:52Speaker 6: his his snaps were down. I know everybody's focusing on
- 18:55Speaker 6: the running backs because that's evidently the key is we
- 18:59Speaker 6: got to just send Stevenson to the bench and give
- 19:01Speaker 6: it everything to Henderson. Even though Henderson had more touches
- 19:05Speaker 6: than Stevenson.
- 19:06Speaker 11: Which one of your shows say that all of them,
- 19:08Speaker 11: all of them, they're all, They're all universally, the single
- 19:11Speaker 11: key to success is to just eliminate Stevenson and focus
- 19:15Speaker 11: on Henderson.
- 19:16Speaker 6: And I love Henderson, but he had eleven touches in
- 19:19Speaker 6: this game. I don't think that's a small number for
- 19:21Speaker 6: a guy making his first career appearance. I think that's
- 19:25Speaker 6: a good amount for a secondary back. Anyway, Diggs did
- 19:30Speaker 6: not play a lot in this game. From a snap
- 19:33Speaker 6: what do you have, like twenty five twenty, I think
- 19:36Speaker 6: he was under thirty snaps.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Hanas Oh, I'm.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Sorry, yea thought I thought it was even later.
- 19:41Speaker 3: He was third behind the half foody in Douglas.
- 19:44Speaker 6: But he was behind the other guys. Yeah, Douglas and
- 19:47Speaker 6: every time. I mean I didn't I didn't see a
- 19:50Speaker 6: whole lot from Diggs in this game that reminded me
- 19:53Speaker 6: of the old Digs. There was the one player on
- 19:54Speaker 6: the quick slant that I think he immediately uncovered. It
- 19:58Speaker 6: was the last player of the third quarter convert a
- 20:00Speaker 6: big third down at the time. But if he if
- 20:06Speaker 6: he's healthy enough to be out there and be a
- 20:08Speaker 6: part of it, then let's let him. Let him try
- 20:12Speaker 6: to be Diggs.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 6: I kind of agree with you, Fred, I think he's
- 20:15Speaker 6: the best receiver they have now. Booty was the best
- 20:17Speaker 6: receiver Sunday, right. Booty played terrific.
- 20:20Speaker 2: He did.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I thought he played a really good game. Yeah, but
- 20:23Speaker 6: I think Diggs offers a little bit more.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I mean, who would have at least I hope on
- 20:28Speaker 2: the first game that the you know, if there was
- 20:30Speaker 2: someone that was going to have one hundred yards, it'd
- 20:32Speaker 2: be Booty. I mean that was pretty good. Good for him.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, he ran a lot of really strong round.
- 20:37Speaker 4: He played well.
- 20:37Speaker 6: Yeah, he was good in the game.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Good hands. Just to point Henderson and what Evan was
- 20:42Speaker 4: kind of saying with mc daniels is just it was disappointed.
- 20:45Speaker 4: They weren't able to seem him open, and it just
- 20:48Speaker 4: seemed like the Raiders were sitting there waiting for them
- 20:51Speaker 4: to try to throw those screen passes. I think there
- 20:53Speaker 4: was one where it was Jermaine Pratt where he just
- 20:56Speaker 4: danced next to Henderson.
- 20:57Speaker 6: There were times that he would I think there were
- 20:59Speaker 6: times that he was the focus of the play and
- 21:01Speaker 6: it didn't even go to him, like you didn't even
- 21:03Speaker 6: get a target, Like they didn't send him on the
- 21:05Speaker 6: one final route.
- 21:06Speaker 3: I don't know why he doesn't get one route down
- 21:09Speaker 3: the field. I don't think I tracked one route.
- 21:11Speaker 6: I didn't see one wheel route either.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I mean to Evit's point about the exotic nature of
- 21:16Speaker 2: the what he thought the offense should be. There was
- 21:18Speaker 2: never a point where you said, oh, you know, the
- 21:21Speaker 2: Raiders defense is on their heels. They were always able
- 21:25Speaker 2: to play going forward.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You know, Digs played twenty nine snaps by the way.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I thought maybe it was.
- 21:33Speaker 6: But twenty nine snaps, Like, yeah, that's not enough to
- 21:36Speaker 6: me unless it's because that's all he could do.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah physically right.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I just think like they were always they were always
- 21:44Speaker 2: on their on their on their toes.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I just like none of that. Like I think
- 21:49Speaker 3: Diggs is going to have a ramp up here and
- 21:51Speaker 3: Diggs will be fine, but they just they got to
- 21:55Speaker 3: get the quarterback tied together mechanically, like his his feet
- 21:58Speaker 3: and even just the way just like if you watch
- 22:01Speaker 3: the way that his body on coils when he's throwing
- 22:04Speaker 3: the football, like he's just not firing the right way
- 22:07Speaker 3: to be if you have those types of mechanics, like
- 22:10Speaker 3: you're going to spray the ball like you just you're
- 22:12Speaker 3: not going to be consistent with your accuracy when there's
- 22:14Speaker 3: so many moving parts to your mechanics. And then I
- 22:18Speaker 3: think the second thing is just you know, when you're
- 22:20Speaker 3: under center running the football, like teams that run the
- 22:22Speaker 3: center under center effectively are using a lot of motion
- 22:26Speaker 3: like you don't. You're not running the fall from under
- 22:28Speaker 3: center with stagnant formation where you're just coming out and
- 22:32Speaker 3: you're just running it right at the defense. You're having
- 22:35Speaker 3: some sort of window dressing or eye candy with motion
- 22:38Speaker 3: that's you know, affecting the defense in some sort of way,
- 22:41Speaker 3: you know, opening space, forcing communication, you know that sort
- 22:45Speaker 3: of thing. If you're a gun run team, then you're
- 22:48Speaker 3: running options. You know, the quarterbacks involved you're read options,
- 22:52Speaker 3: your RPOs, that sort of thing. And if you just
- 22:56Speaker 3: are a team that's just going to hand the ball
- 22:57Speaker 3: off and run it right up the middle, it's that
- 23:00Speaker 3: is not really being super success.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Just one question for you, because they like, were you
- 23:04Speaker 4: surprised they weren't really under center all that much? I
- 23:06Speaker 4: mean it seemed like, I mean, no, that was a
- 23:08Speaker 4: thing for you. You don't really feel like Drake's and
- 23:09Speaker 4: under center kind of guy. I mean, yeah, I know
- 23:11Speaker 4: schematically you weren't happy, but at least it seem like
- 23:13Speaker 4: they had him way more in the gun, right, I
- 23:15Speaker 4: forget what the exact numbers, Yeah, like.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Eighty five percent. I mean, I don't know how much.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Of that was as passes. It was almost exclusive because.
- 23:21Speaker 3: They just decided to abandon the run game in the
- 23:24Speaker 3: second half. But you know, to me, it's just like, again,
- 23:27Speaker 3: if you're you're just either drop back passing from stagnant
- 23:30Speaker 3: formation or you're handing the ball off from stagnant formation,
- 23:33Speaker 3: and there's really nothing pre snap that is really putting
- 23:37Speaker 3: the defense into any sort of blender whatsoever.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So should they have abandoned the run in the second half.
- 23:45Speaker 3: The way that they were trying to run the ball. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 3: because they weren't going to be able to run the
- 23:48Speaker 3: ball that way. You know, if they had something else
- 23:52Speaker 3: that they could have gone to in the running game,
- 23:54Speaker 3: you know, a left hook or something like that, that
- 23:56Speaker 3: would have caught the Raiders off guard.
- 23:58Speaker 6: And shit, it's a fair question that you're at. I mean,
- 24:01Speaker 6: it's the chicken or the egg. Did they abandon the
- 24:03Speaker 6: run and that's why they didn't run the ball in
- 24:06Speaker 6: the second half, or did they not do anything well
- 24:07Speaker 6: in the second half and they didn't have enough place
- 24:09Speaker 6: to run the ball and pass it. But you're not
- 24:12Speaker 6: wrong to ask the question. They only ran it I
- 24:14Speaker 6: think twice legitimately. I think there was like a scramble
- 24:17Speaker 6: for me. So even like the runs in the second
- 24:20Speaker 6: half weren't really designed runs. I think they had one
- 24:24Speaker 6: to to Mario Douglas and one to Antonio Gibson. I
- 24:28Speaker 6: think they only had two actual running plays in the
- 24:31Speaker 6: second half, which you can look at that and say
- 24:34Speaker 6: that that's not enough. You can't do that. But I
- 24:36Speaker 6: do wonder had they knock gone three and out whatever
- 24:40Speaker 6: I think it was three times in a row or
- 24:42Speaker 6: something like that. Right, you know, you get a first
- 24:45Speaker 6: down and does that you know, like the first down
- 24:48Speaker 6: throw to Hunter Henry as an example on the second
- 24:50Speaker 6: possession of the second half. If that's complete, do you
- 24:53Speaker 6: run the ball in the next play on second and three? Yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 6: you know, but because he overthrows him, now it's second
- 24:59Speaker 6: and ten. I meant to run the ball in second down,
- 25:02Speaker 6: but now I can't. Yeah, you wonder there's a chicken
- 25:05Speaker 6: or the egg thing.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think two people are so primed I think
- 25:07Speaker 4: to be terrified of the pass protection that I heard
- 25:10Speaker 4: David Andrews say the same thing, like he was okay
- 25:12Speaker 4: with the pass protection, but really the run blocking and
- 25:15Speaker 4: you know, just the coordination of the run game that
- 25:17Speaker 4: was really concerning to me.
- 25:18Speaker 6: The pass protection was not terrible.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Ina, I think it's an easy place to start looking
- 25:21Speaker 4: forward that if you can get the run game going early,
- 25:24Speaker 4: take some pressure off of Drake, not have to force
- 25:27Speaker 4: him to be perfect, and open up some of those
- 25:29Speaker 4: opportunities downfield for play action. You know, it's an easy
- 25:32Speaker 4: place to start with fixes get the run game.
- 25:34Speaker 6: A quick question from Mike and Evan, because you guys
- 25:37Speaker 6: definitely do more of the draft prep work, right, How
- 25:42Speaker 6: was Drake in college on zone reads as like a
- 25:47Speaker 6: potential runner.
- 25:48Speaker 4: That's another one.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think mostly they use him in
- 25:52Speaker 3: that capacity in like shorty ard angelot red zone, Like
- 25:55Speaker 3: I don't think you're Lamar Jackson first and ten from
- 25:58Speaker 3: the thirty five and we're going to zone rea.
- 26:00Speaker 6: So like first play of a two minute drill and
- 26:02Speaker 6: at the end of the first half as an example,
- 26:04Speaker 6: but when I'm asking it, because some guys, whether or
- 26:10Speaker 6: not they're dynamic runners, is not necessarily the key on
- 26:15Speaker 6: his own read like does he sell the fake well?
- 26:18Speaker 6: Does he hold it long enough, does he threaten that end?
- 26:21Speaker 6: Does he force that? I mean, you were watching in
- 26:24Speaker 6: Evan's point. Again, no one's comparing him to Lamar Jackson.
- 26:26Speaker 6: But what Lamar Jackson was doing the Buffalo the other
- 26:29Speaker 6: night was unbelievable. How he was getting those guys to
- 26:33Speaker 6: get on an island and commit. Now, eventually they finally
- 26:36Speaker 6: made a couple of plays on him, Joey Bosa, who
- 26:39Speaker 6: I thought actually looked pretty good, but you talk about
- 26:42Speaker 6: a tough, tough assignment for a guy having to deal
- 26:46Speaker 6: with that. You could see him as soon as Bosa
- 26:49Speaker 6: would make a step here, Lamar's out the back door
- 26:52Speaker 6: as soon as he takes a step up feeling he's.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Handing it takes one step.
- 26:57Speaker 6: Is that something that Drake may it was any good
- 26:59Speaker 6: at at North Carolina sort of putting that defensive end
- 27:02Speaker 6: on an island.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he can do it, but it's not
- 27:06Speaker 3: even just like you could also put pass routes on.
- 27:10Speaker 3: It took with our pos and so that way there,
- 27:14Speaker 3: you know you have it's all numbers. It's all like
- 27:17Speaker 3: the run game is all numbers. You have to have
- 27:19Speaker 3: as many numbers of blockers as there are defenders, and
- 27:23Speaker 3: you want to keep the furthest guy away from the ball.
- 27:25Speaker 3: If you're going to have to leave somebody unblocked, you
- 27:27Speaker 3: want to keep him as the unblocked defender, which gets
- 27:30Speaker 3: into all the mic points and all the adjustments from
- 27:33Speaker 3: you know, pre snap fronts and things like that. And
- 27:36Speaker 3: I just look at the way that they tried to
- 27:38Speaker 3: run the ball on Sunday and I just think it's
- 27:39Speaker 3: too vanilla. Like I just I don't I think that
- 27:42Speaker 3: the Raiders are just going to tee off and every
- 27:44Speaker 3: other team is just gonna tee off on the line
- 27:46Speaker 3: of scrimmage.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Rabel's answer to the run question on Monday, not on
- 27:52Speaker 2: the EI, it was when he was at the podium.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I thought it was a lot of gibberish. I thought
- 28:00Speaker 2: he like he started talking about things that they were.
- 28:02Speaker 6: Doing, the one about the play call. I start the
- 28:06Speaker 6: answer that started about the play call to me was.
- 28:09Speaker 2: It was talking about like on time, well, well they
- 28:12Speaker 2: were doing different things, and he just went on and
- 28:15Speaker 2: on and on. It's like, I don't know, man, I
- 28:17Speaker 2: didn't think the running game was that complicated. You know,
- 28:20Speaker 2: it's had It's like, you know, just know your assignment,
- 28:23Speaker 2: so you know, I don't know.
- 28:25Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 28:26Speaker 7: It's almost like it was overthinking it.
- 28:27Speaker 6: I don't know what Mike's theory was with the way
- 28:31Speaker 6: he answered some of those questions, but I did find
- 28:33Speaker 6: it kind of interesting. And you can, I know my
- 28:36Speaker 6: shows have taken it the way that my shows generally do.
- 28:39Speaker 6: They turn it into a soap opera? Is he calling
- 28:41Speaker 6: out Josh McDaniels. I'm not ready to say that. But
- 28:46Speaker 6: I did find it interesting that you're asking about your
- 28:48Speaker 6: stable of running backs, which is you know, you had
- 28:51Speaker 6: some firepower there, and then the answer is, well, you know,
- 28:54Speaker 6: it comes down to a lot of things. We got
- 28:56Speaker 6: to get the play in on time.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah, like that all that stuff is more important.
- 29:00Speaker 6: That's the but that's the first thing that comes out. No,
- 29:02Speaker 6: we understand that the lack of the run. No one's
- 29:04Speaker 6: saying that ramondre Stevenson Trevion Henderson were the reason why
- 29:07Speaker 6: they couldn't run the ball. No one would say that, right.
- 29:11Speaker 6: Would you say that it was Trevion Henderson's fault that
- 29:13Speaker 6: they couldn't run the ball the other day or or
- 29:15Speaker 6: oh no, but you would say it was Minder Stevenson's though,
- 29:18Speaker 6: based on the look on your face. But they had
- 29:20Speaker 6: no room to run. I mean both guys they had
- 29:23Speaker 6: one or two races all over them. I mean they
- 29:26Speaker 6: neither one of them had really, It's not like they
- 29:28Speaker 6: O jesup. He had just got back here like there
- 29:31Speaker 6: was nothing. No, so we know it's a you know,
- 29:34Speaker 6: it's blocking, its schemes, its sequenced. But like to start with,
- 29:38Speaker 6: we got to get the play call in on time,
- 29:40Speaker 6: and we got like is he calling out the operation there?
- 29:43Speaker 3: Well, I think the play call and on time might
- 29:46Speaker 3: stem from the fact that the quarterback is the one
- 29:48Speaker 3: setting all the mic points at the line of scrimmage.
- 29:51Speaker 3: So if he doesn't have time to get to the
- 29:52Speaker 3: line of scrimmage and start calling things, and that's why
- 29:55Speaker 3: they got called for a delay a game. Drake said
- 29:57Speaker 3: that after the game that he was trying to get
- 29:59Speaker 3: them out of a play and into a better play
- 30:02Speaker 3: and it just took too long. And so maybe that
- 30:05Speaker 3: that was where that was coming from. Maybe I just
- 30:08Speaker 3: I look at it and you know, you said scheme
- 30:11Speaker 3: and blocking like that, that they did not block well
- 30:14Speaker 3: in the run game, and the scheme was not good enough.
- 30:17Speaker 3: And now they had a couple of wrinkles and the
- 30:19Speaker 3: gun runs with you know, they had a shovel pass
- 30:21Speaker 3: read in there they had was.
- 30:23Speaker 6: A nice little wrinkle for fourteen yards. That was the
- 30:25Speaker 6: best running play they had.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say that in the in the power
- 30:30Speaker 3: shovel were probably the two best. But like it, just
- 30:34Speaker 3: if they can't run the football, then I just don't
- 30:37Speaker 3: know how you build off of anything, like you're just
- 30:41Speaker 3: you don't have enough fire.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Do you think Campbell was affected by the ankle. I
- 30:44Speaker 2: thought he looked a little slow coming out of his stance,
- 30:46Speaker 2: like when he was pulling.
- 30:48Speaker 1: No.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I actually I didn't think that. I didn't really see
- 30:52Speaker 3: any limitations with him physically. I thought he held up
- 30:55Speaker 3: really well in this game, and both him and Jared
- 30:56Speaker 3: Wilson kind of ran out of gas at the end,
- 31:00Speaker 3: which you know, first game conditioning.
- 31:02Speaker 6: A lot of plays type things, a lot of plays
- 31:05Speaker 6: and a lot of consecutive dropbacks.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would think the false starts would probably
- 31:08Speaker 3: be related to fatigue. And then Jared Wilson, I know
- 31:12Speaker 3: some of the pressure numbers out there aren't very good,
- 31:14Speaker 3: but a lot of those came late in the game,
- 31:17Speaker 3: you know.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Yeah, good last time.
- 31:18Speaker 6: I didn't think I didn't think it was it was terrible,
- 31:20Speaker 6: and I don't think it was great. I think they
- 31:22Speaker 6: they definitely schemed around it. They gave Morgan Moses, I
- 31:25Speaker 6: thought a significant amount of help on Crosby, and Crosby
- 31:28Speaker 6: still was active.
- 31:29Speaker 4: But I don't this game didn't break down.
- 31:31Speaker 6: Because they couldn't.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Right, It didn't look like they couldn't pass.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Cluster that you saw at times last.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Now, if they get that level of left tackle play
- 31:38Speaker 3: from Campbell for the whole year, then then they'll be okay,
- 31:41Speaker 3: Like he's not he's not, you know, Trent Williams, Like
- 31:43Speaker 3: he's not a difference maker necessarily at that level but
- 31:46Speaker 3: it's significantly better.
- 31:48Speaker 2: All right, Well, I hope people enjoyed at least what
- 31:50Speaker 2: they were eating, because you know, football fans know that
- 31:53Speaker 2: traditions matter. Turning moments together into something truly epic. There

- 32:25Speaker 4: Who does Paul was asking me what masa was yesterday.
- 32:27Speaker 4: We're trying to figure that out corn corn.
- 32:35Speaker 2: They added a nice, nice wrinkle in the pro press
- 32:38Speaker 2: box this weeks.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like they bring those out for big games. Yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 3: season opener Sunday Night Football and.
- 32:48Speaker 4: My steak tips and Kish Let's go.
- 32:51Speaker 2: They should take requests from the visiting uh media, like
- 32:56Speaker 2: you know, pull them like on Monday before the game.
- 32:58Speaker 2: What would you like?
- 32:59Speaker 3: I've heard some uh you know about how that's all done.
- 33:03Speaker 3: It's like almost like planning a wedding, you have to
- 33:06Speaker 3: have a head count and you put you know, it's
- 33:08Speaker 3: like you put the order in with the caterer ahead
- 33:11Speaker 3: of time, and then you have to pick out a
- 33:13Speaker 3: menu and it's kind of a whole process. Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's.
- 33:17Speaker 6: A good like the Tampas does. Tampa still has a
- 33:22Speaker 6: good spread and like the carving station.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Some places definitely have station. Oh yeah, quite a few have,
- 33:29Speaker 3: Like Miami has carbon station.
- 33:30Speaker 4: And Miami does horse ratus with that, like the horse
- 33:33Speaker 4: ratish sauce with the carving station.
- 33:34Speaker 2: That's actually Miami is one of the worst. Agreed, they
- 33:38Speaker 2: are one of the worst offense. The press box and
- 33:41Speaker 2: the food is the worst.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Press box not great.
- 33:43Speaker 6: I've never noticed really anything out of the ordinary about
- 33:46Speaker 6: the food. But I agree with you guys on the
- 33:48Speaker 6: location of the press box, and like the whole setup
- 33:51Speaker 6: is not ideal.
- 33:53Speaker 2: All right, So we're not happy, and I don't think
- 33:58Speaker 2: that they are either. And when I say they, I
- 34:01Speaker 2: mean football.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Well, I will give Deuce's defense maybe a little bit
- 34:05Speaker 3: of flowers. I thought defensively, I at least saw like
- 34:09Speaker 3: an identity of like how they want to play defensively,
- 34:12Speaker 3: and they made some plays on that side of the
- 34:14Speaker 3: football that I was like, Okay, this is this is
- 34:17Speaker 3: what they want to be, you know, this is how
- 34:19Speaker 3: they want to play. They blitzed a lot more than
- 34:21Speaker 3: I was expecting, and they got burned by it a
- 34:24Speaker 3: couple of times, you know, on big, big plays in
- 34:27Speaker 3: the game. But overall, like I thought, they they play
- 34:31Speaker 3: with good energy, good aggression.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I'm the one where everyone's pointing to where Carlton Davis
- 34:36Speaker 2: got beat. It was an all out blitz. I'm sorry,
- 34:40Speaker 2: but like that's a fine call. You just can't have that.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Oh I hated.
- 34:48Speaker 6: I know a lot of people hated the I had
- 34:50Speaker 6: no pride and I were talking about in the post game,
- 34:53Speaker 6: and I agree with Fred only because of I feel
- 34:56Speaker 6: like the desperation of the situation there. It's really not
- 34:59Speaker 6: enough to force a a punt. I think you needed
- 35:01Speaker 6: to get the ball back and I think they went
- 35:03Speaker 6: after it and you cannot get beat over the top
- 35:06Speaker 6: in that situation if you're Davis. Well, but it's it's
- 35:10Speaker 6: it's cover zero, yeah, so just give give him a
- 35:12Speaker 6: huge cushion, let him catch the ball and tackle him
- 35:14Speaker 6: and to tackle him and get off the field. And
- 35:17Speaker 6: they punt. But I think you if you're Terrell Williams there,
- 35:20Speaker 6: you're going after a strip sack. You're trying to maybe
- 35:23Speaker 6: get in his face, tip a pass in the air,
- 35:25Speaker 6: and you know, do what they the Patriots did to
- 35:27Speaker 6: the Falcons in the Super Bowl. Like it's not enough
- 35:29Speaker 6: for us to just let them run, you know, the
- 35:33Speaker 6: play and then punts. We're not we don't have enough time,
- 35:36Speaker 6: like I understand normally like third and twenty all out
- 35:41Speaker 6: blitz not ideal, right, I think the situation of the game, yeah,
- 35:46Speaker 6: they needed to try to do something desperate in that
- 35:48Speaker 6: call for that and you know your best corner.
- 35:50Speaker 4: I trust I can't get beat by a rookie.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I gotta trust Carlton Davis to not get beat like that.
- 35:55Speaker 6: I'm sorry, you know, hats off to Eldred by the way.
- 35:58Speaker 6: You know it's Dante Thornton. I know he him and
- 36:01Speaker 6: he made he made one. I mean he wasn't a
- 36:03Speaker 6: huge part of the game, but he made made a
- 36:04Speaker 6: play there.
- 36:05Speaker 3: I I guess what agreed third and twenty from your
- 36:09Speaker 3: your twenty six and you send the house. I mean
- 36:12Speaker 3: DeMarcus Covington did this last year against the Rams and
- 36:15Speaker 3: went for a seventy yard touchdown.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Okay, but that was in the middle of the game. Yeah,
- 36:18Speaker 6: but there wasn't like a do or die play like
- 36:20Speaker 6: if that, if that passes, the game is kind of
- 36:23Speaker 6: still over.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Make him check it down for eight yards and punt
- 36:25Speaker 3: the football. I don't understand.
- 36:26Speaker 4: And that's what Carlton Davis should have done.
- 36:28Speaker 6: But Carls that is coming up and biting on a
- 36:30Speaker 6: kind of a half aass double move. It wasn't really
- 36:33Speaker 6: even a great He bites on the route because he
- 36:35Speaker 6: thinks the ball's coming out because there's supposed to be pressure,
- 36:38Speaker 6: like it's covered zero.
- 36:39Speaker 3: You can't just expected.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But his job is to get that, make sure that
- 36:43Speaker 2: you don't get beat.
- 36:45Speaker 6: Can't get He can't a guy run by.
- 36:47Speaker 3: I mean, his job is he's on an island, like
- 36:49Speaker 3: he's by.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Fine, stay on the island, don't leave the island.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Okay, I know he left left.
- 36:58Speaker 4: I don't know how you.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Can defend sending the house on third and twenty.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Because you needed to make something happen.
- 37:03Speaker 6: I'm trying to expl I mean, if you don't agree
- 37:05Speaker 6: with Fred and I that's I mean, that's certainly it's
- 37:07Speaker 6: not a no brainer.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Here, but a lot of people, most people agree with you.
- 37:11Speaker 6: I just don't think forcing a punt. I think the
- 37:14Speaker 6: game was still over, the damage was done. If we
- 37:17Speaker 6: want to go back the punt that the Patriots did
- 37:20Speaker 6: on fourth and twenty for mid I mean fourth and
- 37:22Speaker 6: ten from midfield, like is throwing a white flag up?
- 37:25Speaker 2: If you ask me, I just yeah, that was earlier.
- 37:28Speaker 3: If I was, like, you even have Marcus Jones returning
- 37:31Speaker 3: the punt, like why Marcus Jones flips the field position? Like,
- 37:35Speaker 3: and that's a situation. The last thing that you can
- 37:37Speaker 3: do is give up a first down. It's third and twenty.
- 37:40Speaker 3: You can't give up a first down. And they left
- 37:42Speaker 3: Carlon Davis on an island and he jumped the route
- 37:45Speaker 3: thinking it's cover zero, this ball's coming out.
- 37:48Speaker 6: I'm gonna I'm gonna jumping routes.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I just told you why, because there's no need to.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Fred just explained to you. Just let him catch it.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Just let him catch it and tackle.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Go call up the mccordy's and ask him what as
- 38:00Speaker 3: them when you send the house as a defensive back,
- 38:03Speaker 3: what are you doing?
- 38:04Speaker 6: But you had twenty yards not seven, Like you didn't
- 38:08Speaker 6: have to be at his grill.
- 38:10Speaker 4: He doesn't let him catch it and tackle him.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Just make sure he doesn't get the first It's the
- 38:15Speaker 2: same thing.
- 38:15Speaker 6: I thought that call, and I thought the third and eleven,
- 38:18Speaker 6: third and eleven thousand percent with you. One third and
- 38:21Speaker 6: eleven from the twenty six was sending the house. That
- 38:24Speaker 6: to me didn't make any.
- 38:25Speaker 7: To me, that's instinct football.
- 38:28Speaker 6: There's no desperation. Third and eleven from the twenty six.
- 38:30Speaker 6: Let him catch a short crossing route or something, make
- 38:33Speaker 6: him check it down, tackle.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Him kick a field goal.
- 38:35Speaker 6: Yeah, it's good red zone defense, even though they weren't
- 38:38Speaker 6: quite in the red zone. The red zone, you know
- 38:42Speaker 6: what I mean that. I'm not thousand percent with Evan.
- 38:46Speaker 6: I understand your point about the logistics of it. I
- 38:49Speaker 6: just feel like the game situation called for we need
- 38:52Speaker 6: to take the ball away.
- 38:53Speaker 3: If you were, if they were in scoring territory and
- 38:56Speaker 3: you're trying to get a sack to knock them out
- 38:57Speaker 3: of field goal range or something like that, then I
- 39:00Speaker 3: can be sold on sending the house there. But they
- 39:02Speaker 3: have the whole like it's it's it's like the twenty
- 39:05Speaker 3: six yard line.
- 39:05Speaker 6: Oh that was terrible.
- 39:06Speaker 3: You know, you just you can't. It's too aggressive.
- 39:10Speaker 6: And on top of all of that, the call, how
- 39:16Speaker 6: do you end up with Jalen Hawkins one on one
- 39:19Speaker 6: with Trey Tucker.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Because Marcus Jones blitzed right?
- 39:23Speaker 6: No, But this is what I'm saying, So even if
- 39:25Speaker 6: you're going to do that, why don't you have Marcus
- 39:27Speaker 6: Jones be the guy that stays back and have Jalen
- 39:29Speaker 6: Hawkins be the guy who blitzes. Jones is a better
- 39:31Speaker 6: cover guy. Okay? And they also on that play, if
- 39:34Speaker 6: if I if I have my plays, remember properly, I'm
- 39:39Speaker 6: not a big fan of anything that involves Christian Barmore
- 39:42Speaker 6: in Milton Williams retreating. Wasn't that the play They kind
- 39:46Speaker 6: of put everybody up the line. They would disguise itself here.
- 39:49Speaker 3: And some some chords here for me.
- 39:52Speaker 6: Okay, So I'll just let them.
- 39:57Speaker 3: It's part of the scheme. So they're simulating pressure by
- 40:02Speaker 3: putting all those guys up on the line of scrimmage.
- 40:04Speaker 3: So when the blocker goes to engage with Christian Barmore
- 40:07Speaker 3: and Milton Williams, all their job there is just to
- 40:10Speaker 3: occupy the blockers. It's not necessarily that they drop them
- 40:15Speaker 3: into coverage Like this isn't Matt Patricia dropping Trey Flowers
- 40:19Speaker 3: into coverage all the time. Like, so they when they
- 40:22Speaker 3: go to rush, the idea is to get the line
- 40:24Speaker 3: to block in and so that Marcus Jones coming from
- 40:27Speaker 3: the nickel is unblocked off the edge. Now, to the
- 40:30Speaker 3: Raiders credit, they left the tight end in and they
- 40:33Speaker 3: sniffed it out. They were ready for it. So they
- 40:36Speaker 3: ended up getting hat on a hat anyways and blocking
- 40:38Speaker 3: everybody that was coming. But the popouts, those are called
- 40:42Speaker 3: hot zones, and like really you expect when you send
- 40:45Speaker 3: the pressure that they're going to run like a slant
- 40:47Speaker 3: or something like that over the middle of the field
- 40:49Speaker 3: right behind the pressure. So the idea is to pop
- 40:51Speaker 3: those guys out, get their hands up in the passing
- 40:54Speaker 3: lanes and take away those underneath crossers and things like
- 40:57Speaker 3: that to get the ball out of the quarterback's hands quickly,
- 41:00Speaker 3: so you know in that spot. Like it's I think
- 41:03Speaker 3: it's more complicated than just saying they drop them into coverage.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Like I get that that was what ended up happening,
- 41:10Speaker 3: but that that I think is I.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Just want those guys being involved in getting after the
- 41:14Speaker 6: quarterback all the time.
- 41:16Speaker 4: Those two guys I don't think.
- 41:17Speaker 6: Should ever be involved in sort of tricking the other
- 41:20Speaker 6: team into trying to.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Do those are the who well who is like, Yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 4: I think we're getting a lot of defensive.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Like the guys on the edge, you know, Landry and
- 41:29Speaker 6: chase them at least if I'm going to drop them,
- 41:32Speaker 6: I don't necessarily want to do that with them either.
- 41:34Speaker 6: But at least they have some mobility and they can
- 41:37Speaker 6: disrupt in some of those zones and and you know,
- 41:40Speaker 6: getting the getting passing lanes.
- 41:42Speaker 4: They have some what is like Milton William's going to
- 41:44Speaker 4: be doing.
- 41:46Speaker 3: So you have to like if you drop the ends out,
- 41:49Speaker 3: what you can do. But if you drop the ends out,
- 41:51Speaker 3: then the tackles are uncovered. So the idea is to
- 41:54Speaker 3: get all five linemen engaged in the block and that
- 41:58Speaker 3: way there when the tight end goes out for his
- 42:00Speaker 3: pattern and Marcus Jones blitzes, Marcus Jones is supposed to
- 42:03Speaker 3: be unblocked in this situation. The Raiders they had the
- 42:07Speaker 3: right protection on and they just they got it blocked
- 42:10Speaker 3: to their Yeah.
- 42:11Speaker 6: I don't want to take away the credit from the
- 42:12Speaker 6: Raiders too, because they made they made a lot of
- 42:15Speaker 6: good plays in this game, and they had a lot
- 42:17Speaker 6: of things that they got the.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Coaching gedge in. Did Devin White? I get Devin White
- 42:21Speaker 4: had a good game? He did? He did the problem.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Jamal Adam said, good game.
- 42:25Speaker 2: It was a guy that was on my radar in
- 42:28Speaker 2: that draft, that linebacker Devin White. I was that was
- 42:32Speaker 2: the cold strange draft, right.
- 42:34Speaker 6: Oh, Devin White's been in the league for a long time.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Really okay, Well my thinking of Devin maybe, yeah, okay,
- 42:41Speaker 2: same thing.
- 42:41Speaker 6: Definitely mobile lineback mobile a big difference in career.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Though.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I can't have any this is just yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 3: getting wound up over well.
- 42:51Speaker 4: I mean but Maddy p would have gone your route.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Matty P would have been like, we're gonna rush three
- 42:56Speaker 4: on third and twenty and you know, like, I mean,
- 42:58Speaker 4: there's this like there's no right or wrong answer.
- 43:00Speaker 6: It's just what how do you listen? I agree nine
- 43:05Speaker 6: game situations. I agree with with the way Evan's talking about.
- 43:08Speaker 6: I just feel like in that situation, you needed to
- 43:10Speaker 6: do more than force a punt. That's all.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think you're seeing from Terrell Williams that
- 43:15Speaker 4: they're going to err on the side of let's just
- 43:17Speaker 4: go get it, and.
- 43:18Speaker 3: I hope that was a weak one.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but how can they balance Like we
- 43:22Speaker 4: said all summer that there's going to be feast or
- 43:24Speaker 4: family with this defense, that they're going to make some
- 43:26Speaker 4: big plays, and that they're going to get burned from
- 43:27Speaker 4: some big plays. I just don't think we thought they
- 43:29Speaker 4: would be what ten plays in nineteen yards or more.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Like.
- 43:31Speaker 4: They have to cut that down.
- 43:32Speaker 6: I would say that in terms of the defense, they run,
- 43:36Speaker 6: the ability to stop the run was a very pleasant
- 43:39Speaker 6: surprise to me.
- 43:40Speaker 4: I don't think anything else was.
- 43:41Speaker 6: Really all that good.
- 43:42Speaker 4: I thought that they did a good job.
- 43:44Speaker 6: Terrell Williams and his group did a good job of
- 43:47Speaker 6: finding ways to get after the passer, occasionally with some
- 43:50Speaker 6: good you know. I think Hawkins had a nice blitz
- 43:53Speaker 6: that resulted in a sack. I think that they dialed
- 43:56Speaker 6: up some things, but without Gonzales they struggled back there.
- 44:01Speaker 3: It was it was just I was surprised by how
- 44:03Speaker 3: much they miss, not because he's obvious to the opponent, right,
- 44:07Speaker 3: He's obviously a great player, but they they trickled down
- 44:10Speaker 3: effect really hurt them. You know, they really picked on
- 44:14Speaker 3: I know Davis gave up to play late, but he
- 44:16Speaker 3: really was fine for the majority of the game.
- 44:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought he was okay, Yeah, I agree.
- 44:20Speaker 3: But they really picked on everybody else.
- 44:22Speaker 6: Yeah, they they had a lot of success in the
- 44:27Speaker 6: passing game doing whatever they wanted to do, like whether
- 44:29Speaker 6: it was you know, the numbers of stuff in between
- 44:31Speaker 6: the hashes, Kobe Myers, Yea Bowers. You know, we always
- 44:36Speaker 6: we've been trained over the years, well, the other team's
- 44:38Speaker 6: number one option will never kill them until he did
- 44:42Speaker 6: mayor two.
- 44:42Speaker 4: I mean, and that's just continuation of the summer.
- 44:44Speaker 6: With the they had four different guys catch passes of
- 44:47Speaker 6: twenty yards or more, four different guys. There were times
- 44:50Speaker 6: where you know, I think Evan right off the top
- 44:53Speaker 6: talked about the marriage of the covert, the rush and
- 44:56Speaker 6: the coverage. You never really saw that in this game,
- 44:58Speaker 6: Like I know that was a big thing for you
- 45:00Speaker 6: in the postgame show now.
- 45:01Speaker 4: I mean, you know, talking about the RPOs too. There's
- 45:03Speaker 4: a lot of space in the middle. You know, a
- 45:05Speaker 4: lot of those Jacobe Myers where this linebackers get sucked
- 45:07Speaker 4: up a little bit.
- 45:08Speaker 6: And you can look at it and say, well, they
- 45:10Speaker 6: give up twenty points and you should win a game.
- 45:12Speaker 6: And I absolutely agree anytime you go up twenty points
- 45:14Speaker 6: or unless you should win the game. So I wouldn't
- 45:16Speaker 6: put this game on the defense. I would simply say
- 45:19Speaker 6: I don't think the defense played very well. I think
- 45:21Speaker 6: twenty points is not really indicative of the way the
- 45:23Speaker 6: Raiders played offense. I think they easily could have scored more.
- 45:26Speaker 6: The last drive of the game, as an example, they
- 45:29Speaker 6: were able to hold the ball for over three minutes
- 45:31Speaker 6: with three different clock stop, two timeouts for the Patriots,
- 45:34Speaker 6: and the two minute warning, and they still held the
- 45:36Speaker 6: ball for over three minutes protecting a ten point lead.
- 45:39Speaker 6: They easily could have scored there. The previous drive that
- 45:42Speaker 6: they kicked the field goal to make it ten, they
- 45:44Speaker 6: had a third and short that they were easily going
- 45:46Speaker 6: to pick up and Ashton Genty fell down running to
- 45:49Speaker 6: the left side. If the game's tied there when they
- 45:54Speaker 6: needed maybe they go for that. And there was no
- 45:57Speaker 6: indication that they weren't going to get it. They were
- 45:59Speaker 6: getting it all day. Yeah, in short yarded situations. So yes,
- 46:02Speaker 6: they only get twenty points. I think Gino Smith kind
- 46:06Speaker 6: of had his way with you again and again, hats
- 46:08Speaker 6: off all you got Eldrid, Patty and Agu on you
- 46:14Speaker 6: guys told me that, no, he does like to throw
- 46:16Speaker 6: the ball down I knew he was an effective downfield passer,
- 46:19Speaker 6: but he clearly likes to throw the ball downfield more
- 46:22Speaker 6: than I gave him credit for, and again I was wrong.
- 46:24Speaker 3: I just think there was enough bones there from the
- 46:26Speaker 3: defense where especially in the pass rush or where they
- 46:30Speaker 3: can build off of that defensively and you hope that
- 46:34Speaker 3: you get Gonzo back and that makes the secondary that
- 46:37Speaker 3: much better. There were a couple of instances where if
- 46:40Speaker 3: the pass rush really bailed out the coverage, even there
- 46:43Speaker 3: were open guys down the field, Bowers came wide open
- 46:46Speaker 3: on a sale route on one play I think it
- 46:48Speaker 3: was Hawkins's sack that if the pressure hadn't been there
- 46:51Speaker 3: would have been another big play. And so at least
- 46:54Speaker 3: you had some examples of pass rush where you said, okay,
- 46:57Speaker 3: you know, Milon Williams, Harold Landry. I thought those guys
- 47:00Speaker 3: showed well in their debuts, so you have something to
- 47:03Speaker 3: build off.
- 47:04Speaker 2: That's the thin line that they're going to be treading
- 47:06Speaker 2: this year with that type.
- 47:07Speaker 7: You know, it's going to be important. Thank God for
- 47:10Speaker 7: the pressure.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I was really encouraged by what I
- 47:13Speaker 3: saw from Landry, but Milton Williams too. You know, Landry
- 47:17Speaker 3: last year kind of had a down year in Tennessee.
- 47:19Speaker 3: What didn't really look like he had much left and
- 47:22Speaker 3: he looked more like the Very Bowl era at Titans.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Landry and Milton Williams was as advertised and for sure.
- 47:30Speaker 2: So what's you know? I want to turn it over
- 47:33Speaker 2: to the listeners and viewers in a second. But from
- 47:36Speaker 2: what you saw, is this fixable?
- 47:39Speaker 7: Like what well, I.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Wouldn't call it fixable. I would just say, is this
- 47:43Speaker 4: the start of something?
- 47:44Speaker 5: You know?
- 47:45Speaker 4: Like that's to me, Yes, there are things to.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Fail, everything's to start to something. Is it something good
- 47:49Speaker 2: as something bad?
- 47:49Speaker 5: No?
- 47:50Speaker 4: I mean I look I and I'd say, specifically with
- 47:53Speaker 4: the defense, they got a ways to go. They don't
- 47:56Speaker 4: have the right personnel, they don't have much depth, and
- 47:58Speaker 4: there's also probably a more than a couple of players
- 48:01Speaker 4: on the defense right now that are kind of placeholders
- 48:02Speaker 4: till next year. So you know, once it all comes
- 48:05Speaker 4: together in a game situation, I think you get a
- 48:07Speaker 4: little bit better sense of how it's going to all
- 48:09Speaker 4: come together. And you know, I don't think it all
- 48:11Speaker 4: came together great, but I agree with what Evan said,
- 48:14Speaker 4: they have a personality on defense. They're going to be aggressive,
- 48:16Speaker 4: They're going to go after it. They have some pieces
- 48:18Speaker 4: up front, Milton Williams talented player, how Harold Landry has
- 48:21Speaker 4: been a consistent, productive player. But they're going to have
- 48:24Speaker 4: to come together on both sides of the ball and
- 48:26Speaker 4: really start to look like a team, play like a team.
- 48:29Speaker 4: And you know, starts with a run on the offensive
- 48:31Speaker 4: side also just starts Drake. Calm down, bro, you know,
- 48:34Speaker 4: calm down. Can we take some pressure off of him?
- 48:36Speaker 4: Can we? You know, I know they didn't. They got
- 48:39Speaker 4: the lead in this game, but I think that's very
- 48:40Speaker 4: important is to get a good start, get the run
- 48:42Speaker 4: game going. I feel like you've got some good energy.
- 48:45Speaker 7: So is it, Eric Evan?
- 48:47Speaker 2: Are you thinking that this offense has to be balanced
- 48:50Speaker 2: in order to be successful.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 48:51Speaker 3: I just don't really see a path for them to
- 48:53Speaker 3: be a viable offense without balance. I just don't think
- 48:56Speaker 3: that they have the pass game infrastructure to be a
- 49:00Speaker 3: high volume passing game. And that's not just Drake may
- 49:03Speaker 3: It's the offensive line, it's the receivers. Like you don't
- 49:06Speaker 3: look at them on paper and say this team should
- 49:08Speaker 3: throw the ball forty times a game, Like, it's just
- 49:10Speaker 3: not how they're built. So if they're gonna be a
- 49:13Speaker 3: good offense this year, then it has to all kind
- 49:17Speaker 3: of stem off of having early down success, run game play, action,
- 49:22Speaker 3: you know that sort of thing. And I think that's
- 49:24Speaker 3: what suits him the best too. Like I think when
- 49:26Speaker 3: you ask Drake May to keep dropping back and keep
- 49:28Speaker 3: dropping back, it starts to snowball on him sometimes in
- 49:32Speaker 3: terms of the inaccuracies. When he's throwing the ball forty
- 49:34Speaker 3: six times, it just you start to see higher volumes
- 49:39Speaker 3: of misses and things like that. You can limit that.
- 49:42Speaker 3: If you can limit his dropbacks, limit the exposure of
- 49:45Speaker 3: the offensive line, limit you know that, all of it,
- 49:48Speaker 3: then I think that you're in much better shape. But
- 49:50Speaker 3: if they can't run the ball, then they can't do
- 49:52Speaker 3: that well.
- 49:52Speaker 2: It's got to take a lot of work and front
- 49:55Speaker 2: work where it makes work boots and apparel that are

- 50:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 50:25Speaker 2: Wow, just pull something. All right, Let's get to the phones.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Eight five to five PATS five hundred is the hotline.
- 50:34Speaker 2: We'll start with Cam in North Carolina, hate Cam.
- 50:39Speaker 12: Hey, guys, how you doing goody good? Just a couple
- 50:43Speaker 12: of things. I wanted to kind of mention and go
- 50:45Speaker 12: over and see what you guys thought about it.
- 50:47Speaker 13: I'll keep it, I'll keep it breathed.
- 50:49Speaker 12: But the first thing, I want to know how you
- 50:51Speaker 12: guys felt about what's in the safety. I was kind
- 50:55Speaker 12: of in and out of the game, but every time
- 50:57Speaker 12: I seemed like I saw him on the screen and
- 51:00Speaker 12: it seemed like he was doing something good. So maybe
- 51:02Speaker 12: you guys can see if he was like on your uplist,
- 51:04Speaker 12: on your down list, or if it was just the
- 51:06Speaker 12: random plays that I saw. Also, I wanted to mention
- 51:11Speaker 12: Kayshaun Boody. I've thought this for a couple of years now,
- 51:15Speaker 12: and it seems like you know, I don't know if
- 51:17Speaker 12: it's just you guys or everybody else, but when it
- 51:20Speaker 12: comes to Booty, I hear sacrificial X and like kind
- 51:23Speaker 12: of a placeholder, if you will. But for the past
- 51:26Speaker 12: two years, well the past year, and then this first game,
- 51:28Speaker 12: it seems like he's by far the most productive. And Paul,
- 51:32Speaker 12: I understand like one game doesn't doesn't make a difference.
- 51:35Speaker 12: And I'm not saying he's justin Jefferson out there, but
- 51:38Speaker 12: it seems like he's increasingly getting better. He's starting to
- 51:42Speaker 12: build a report with with May, and I feel like
- 51:45Speaker 12: he's he's actually a solid number two, and I think
- 51:48Speaker 12: that we should we should kind of incorporate him more
- 51:51Speaker 12: into the game plan. And the last thing I'll say
- 51:54Speaker 12: is Evan, I understand you, you know way more football
- 51:57Speaker 12: than me, but I think every single NFL player should
- 52:00Speaker 12: be able to throw a ten yard pass when they
- 52:02Speaker 12: want the greats. I mean, we're not talking Gardner Minshew here,
- 52:07Speaker 12: We're talking Drake May, We're talking the franchise QB. Potentially,
- 52:12Speaker 12: he needs to be able to throw seven eight yard
- 52:14Speaker 12: yard balls. If he can't, then maybe.
- 52:16Speaker 13: He's not the guy.
- 52:17Speaker 12: But that's that's basically can I feel like they should
- 52:20Speaker 12: all be able to do that. So that's all I have, guys,
- 52:22Speaker 12: and I appreciate for everything you can do, and let's
- 52:25Speaker 12: take it off one thanks.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Camp.
- 52:26Speaker 3: I mean, he can do it. It's not like every
- 52:28Speaker 3: single throw is a miss. It's just like if you're
- 52:30Speaker 3: asking him to do that, I think you're just kind
- 52:33Speaker 3: of making him play left handed. Like I don't even
- 52:35Speaker 3: think it's necessarily canny or canty. It's just like, I
- 52:38Speaker 3: don't want this offense to be built that way for
- 52:41Speaker 3: a guy that has his kind of physical talent. Like,
- 52:44Speaker 3: I don't know why you would it.
- 52:46Speaker 6: Just there's a lot of guys that didn't accel at
- 52:48Speaker 6: Brett Favre wasn't great at that kind of stuff. I mean,
- 52:52Speaker 6: you can succeed now. Brett Favre could throw those passes,
- 52:55Speaker 6: of course he could. Everybody can the.
- 52:58Speaker 4: College good ones.
- 52:59Speaker 6: Can the good ones hit him all? Yeah, Brady hit
- 53:02Speaker 6: them all.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Well he's a great one.
- 53:04Speaker 6: So someone some guys can't consistently do that. They can
- 53:09Speaker 6: do it, they just don't do it all the time.
- 53:10Speaker 6: And when they don't, you get in trouble. And Booty
- 53:14Speaker 6: I just got finished saying like Boody was the best
- 53:17Speaker 6: player for the Patriots on Sunday, certainly offensively, what do
- 53:21Speaker 6: you think of Woodson?
- 53:23Speaker 4: I thought he was fine.
- 53:24Speaker 3: He kept himself out of trouble, which.
- 53:26Speaker 7: Is I think he had a nice hit against the run.
- 53:30Speaker 6: Thought I thought he was fine. I didn't notice any
- 53:32Speaker 6: breakdowns for him. The other safety. I noticed a lot
- 53:34Speaker 6: of breakdowns.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when safety is a lot to me,
- 53:37Speaker 3: like a lot like the offensive line. If I don't
- 53:39Speaker 3: notice it, and that's probably a good thing, right, can.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Bring one more thing though, like bring it out break
- 53:44Speaker 4: and they could get the concern with it. But like,
- 53:46Speaker 4: do you find that he unraveled a little bit after
- 53:49Speaker 4: the interception? Do you think or think the team did
- 53:51Speaker 4: was that? Yeah? I mean I felt like how do
- 53:56Speaker 4: you overcome that? Because that's what we talked about the
- 53:59Speaker 4: second half, like they got to be able to handle
- 54:02Speaker 4: these games like you throw an interception on the first
- 54:05Speaker 4: drive of the third quarter and then you all turn
- 54:07Speaker 4: into a puddle like that to me is one of
- 54:09Speaker 4: the more concerning things that that's going to be a
- 54:11Speaker 4: trait that they have to figure out.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Chris and Virginia's next, what's up? Chris, Chris gone gone?
- 54:20Speaker 2: Let's see angry fred.
- 54:22Speaker 7: Q and Louisiana.

- 56:35Speaker 4: I think I care for you, give the firepower you

- 56:43Speaker 16: How disappointing was it?
- 56:46Speaker 5: You know?
- 56:47Speaker 6: That that group was kind of held in check from Kings.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:50Speaker 17: I mean, I think to have a successful offensive play
- 56:53Speaker 17: it takes really everybody. It takes the play caller right
- 56:59Speaker 17: getting the play in efficiently. It takes us being able
- 57:04Speaker 17: to identify the players that we need to block, the
- 57:06Speaker 17: ones that we're we're not going to be able to block,
- 57:08Speaker 17: and the ones that when we block them and we're
- 57:11Speaker 17: in combination that we have to move them.
- 57:12Speaker 1: And then the backs have to have to run whether
- 57:15Speaker 1: or not.
- 57:15Speaker 17: And we say that so again, it's not just the the.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Players that we have that we're handing the ball to.
- 57:21Speaker 1: It's it's everybody.
- 57:22Speaker 17: And again we have a lot of confidence in the
- 57:25Speaker 17: in the running backs, but also we have to be
- 57:27Speaker 17: able to have a great execution in any scheme, whether
- 57:32Speaker 17: that's the zone scheme, gap scheme, and so again we
- 57:36Speaker 17: the bottom line is we have to run the ball
- 57:38Speaker 17: better and we have to run it more efficiently because
- 57:41Speaker 17: then I think that all opens up, you know, some
- 57:43Speaker 17: more of the stuff that we're doing and can.
- 57:45Speaker 1: Do and want to be able to do. So it's
- 57:47Speaker 1: not just a drop back.
- 57:49Speaker 17: Passing games are from the a lot helping the moderate
- 57:55Speaker 17: orcher got there's is that just because the running was efficient,
- 57:59Speaker 17: it was just wasn't you know, it wasn't one of
- 58:01Speaker 17: our better plays.
- 58:02Speaker 1: And again, we just have to take advantage of the
- 58:05Speaker 1: plays that.
- 58:05Speaker 17: We do call and and hit it when we have
- 58:09Speaker 17: guys open, and just being able to start the second
- 58:11Speaker 17: half and you know, being able to go down there
- 58:14Speaker 17: and continue that drive and unfortunately, you know, not not
- 58:18Speaker 17: turn it over and be able to create some momentum
- 58:22Speaker 17: in that situation. You talked about this real briefly after
- 58:25Speaker 17: the game, but the benefit of hindsight any more thoughts
- 58:28Speaker 17: about deciding to talk with roughly fires, I mean, I
- 58:32Speaker 17: don't think so. I think that the way that the
- 58:34Speaker 17: game was going, I mean again hindsight, yeah, I mean,
- 58:38Speaker 17: if we were going to get the fourth and ten
- 58:40Speaker 17: and go down there and score a touchdown and stop them,
- 58:43Speaker 17: and you know, but they don't let.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Us do that.
- 58:45Speaker 17: You know, we have to make a decision. You have
- 58:47Speaker 17: to be decisive, and then once you do that, you
- 58:49Speaker 17: have to execute on the field. And so we weren't
- 58:53Speaker 17: good enough. It didn't turn out to be the right decision,
- 58:56Speaker 17: and it didn't turn out to be the right execution.
- 58:58Speaker 1: And unfortunately, when you get into the situations.
- 59:02Speaker 17: Down two scores like that everything has to be perfect,
- 59:07Speaker 17: everything has to be perfect, and so that's why you
- 59:09Speaker 17: have to avoid those situations at all costs.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Mike on the radio this morning, talking about the run game,
- 59:15Speaker 2: you mentioned something along the lines of, you know, there
- 59:17Speaker 2: might be issues that a team presents us.
- 59:19Speaker 4: They might be at a certain funt to them.
- 59:20Speaker 1: We have to get away from them. What we think
- 59:22Speaker 1: we have to get away from a certain route. Did
- 59:24Speaker 1: they give you something that you weren't.
- 59:25Speaker 17: Expecting, Well, they're just there were different pieces and different
- 59:28Speaker 17: guys moving at different parts of the area, and whether
- 59:31Speaker 17: we wanted to run and play at a certain player,
- 59:35Speaker 17: you're never going to know. And I think we just
- 59:36Speaker 17: have to rely on our base base rules based fundamentals.
- 59:41Speaker 1: You know, block, block the bigs and block.
- 59:43Speaker 17: The backers, and again you're going to have to do
- 59:46Speaker 17: something to get the safety. And sometimes the corners are
- 59:49Speaker 17: the ones that are left in some of these run games.
- 59:52Speaker 17: So because you either can rpo it, you can read somebody,
- 59:57Speaker 17: or they're going to have a player. Again, Wide is
- 1:00:00Speaker 17: from the formation that that in theory is free.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: So we have to.
- 1:00:04Speaker 17: Pick something each play and decide how we want to
- 1:00:07Speaker 17: run it, but not be uh, you know, tentative and
- 1:00:11Speaker 17: making sure that we're never going to be perfect, right,
- 1:00:14Speaker 17: you just want to be precise.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: And I think that that's going to be the message.
- 1:00:19Speaker 17: To us going forward, is how we improve and we
- 1:00:21Speaker 17: can't rely and we can't think that every play is
- 1:00:24Speaker 17: going to be perfect.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: It's never going to be that way.
- 1:00:27Speaker 17: And when it isn't perfect, that we somehow have some
- 1:00:30Speaker 17: sort of reaction.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: And we need to make sure that we.
- 1:00:33Speaker 17: Have a great response and continue to stay positive and
- 1:00:37Speaker 17: have positive plays overcome whatever penalties and things that we
- 1:00:42Speaker 17: have to fix.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And we have to protect the ball.
- 1:00:44Speaker 17: You know, we have to keep make sure that we
- 1:00:45Speaker 17: protect the football and it takes everybody.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Michael, do you use those turns of the fret decisive? Perfect?
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Is that? How do you get them to that? Well,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: that's the challenge.
- 1:00:55Speaker 17: I think everything that we do, we always want to
- 1:00:58Speaker 17: be competitive and do it the right way. But then
- 1:01:02Speaker 17: you know, there just can't be any sort of block
- 1:01:05Speaker 17: that that keeps us from from just going and playing
- 1:01:08Speaker 17: a game and knowing that it's not going to look
- 1:01:12Speaker 17: great at times, but it's going to be making a
- 1:01:14Speaker 17: play and somebody has to do that and you know,
- 1:01:18Speaker 17: just somebody on defense has got to beat their guy
- 1:01:20Speaker 17: or tip a pass and accept the ball, knock it out,
- 1:01:23Speaker 17: and just again there's a scheme to it. There is,
- 1:01:27Speaker 17: and it's just I don't say that by going rogue.
- 1:01:29Speaker 17: There's a scheme to it. But then throughout the course
- 1:01:32Speaker 17: of the game there's you know, somebody makes a play.
- 1:01:35Speaker 18: You guys were mostly successful when you blitz, but it
- 1:01:38Speaker 18: seemed like the four man pass rushers weren't quite as effective.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: What did you see from the blitzer versus the four
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: man rushes? They kind of cause that despair. Yeah, I
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: did like our blitz demeanor most of the day.
- 1:01:50Speaker 17: That wasn't great, certainly on the touchdown, But I think
- 1:01:57Speaker 17: when you blitz, it's about timing, you know, about about
- 1:02:02Speaker 17: being where you're supposed to be, if he's supposed to
- 1:02:04Speaker 17: come under the back to free up somebody else that's coming.
- 1:02:07Speaker 17: You know, those things that we did and it was effective.
- 1:02:11Speaker 17: I think we had some some good four man rushes.
- 1:02:14Speaker 17: There were times where guys one whether we're going to
- 1:02:18Speaker 17: rush straight or whether we're gaming, just having an understanding
- 1:02:22Speaker 17: of where the slide is or who you're working with
- 1:02:25Speaker 17: on a particular side whether he's going to be hind
- 1:02:27Speaker 17: the b gap and you know you need to wrap
- 1:02:30Speaker 17: around or where they're winning on the edge and we
- 1:02:32Speaker 17: need great push in the middle. So those are kind
- 1:02:34Speaker 17: of things that come up with a four man rush
- 1:02:36Speaker 17: and we'll continue to work them.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I can't can't live in a in
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: a blitz world, Beach.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: What a lot of him to start the season up strong,
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: And how much growth did you see you from the.
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: Off season of top down unless we just said it
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: was sort of the nine day between him a professionals
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: in the sprint.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, just that's a lot of positives there.
- 1:02:55Speaker 17: I think his comfort level and us and everybody and
- 1:02:59Speaker 17: what we're doing, and let's say his professionalism, the way
- 1:03:02Speaker 17: he came in and prepared and.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: I knew a lot of spots.
- 1:03:06Speaker 17: You know, I played a bunch of different positions in camp,
- 1:03:08Speaker 17: which gave him a really good role which then then grew.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I think the quarterback trusts him.
- 1:03:14Speaker 17: I think he's got good, good play strength and at
- 1:03:18Speaker 17: the top of the route, and so just looking forward
- 1:03:22Speaker 17: to continue to improve and you know, so I'm happy
- 1:03:26Speaker 17: for him that he's been able to have success from
- 1:03:29Speaker 17: from the spring till now, Starry, I.
- 1:03:32Speaker 19: Think when it comes to the running backs and who
- 1:03:34Speaker 19: you put on the field of the seventy one steps,
- 1:03:37Speaker 19: that if Romandre had the bulk of him, was this
- 1:03:40Speaker 19: sort of predetermined or how much of that is based
- 1:03:41Speaker 19: on the movie game?
- 1:03:43Speaker 17: Well, I mean, I think some of it is just
- 1:03:44Speaker 17: based on the play and the flow of the game
- 1:03:47Speaker 17: and knowing that they're all going to have a role,
- 1:03:49Speaker 17: and Treyveon is going to have a role, and you know,
- 1:03:52Speaker 17: Ramandre is going to do some things. So I don't
- 1:03:55Speaker 17: think it's ever going to be perfect, and we have
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: to evaluate everything to make sure that we're getting it
- 1:04:04Speaker 17: right based on volume, who's playing, who's getting the ball,
- 1:04:10Speaker 17: who's trying to get the ball. It's hard to always
- 1:04:12Speaker 17: dictate when we throw it who gets it. But you know,
- 1:04:15Speaker 17: whatever the scheme is, that we're executing it and being
- 1:04:18Speaker 17: able to stay balanced.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Seem jets yesterday just not having thought well, I think
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: that there was an energy I thought that, you know,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I mean, he made a nice few.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: You know, splash plays, a few productive plays.
- 1:04:32Speaker 17: It blitzed well, and you found the quarterback and I
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: was in great position on the tip ball, and then
- 1:04:39Speaker 17: some mistackles showed up, and those things we have to correct,
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: so against trying to put it in the buckets and
- 1:04:45Speaker 17: continuing to teach the good, the bad and the stuff
- 1:04:48Speaker 17: that gets you beat and we have to, you know,
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: make sure that we're fixing the bad stuff and then
- 1:04:52Speaker 17: eliminating the stuff that gets as beaten. You know, understanding,
- 1:04:56Speaker 17: you know all the little details of all three phases
- 1:05:00Speaker 17: and putting it, putting.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: It together, tie it together.
- 1:05:03Speaker 17: You know, defense had three three and outs and we
- 1:05:05Speaker 17: managed three points, like that's complimentary. Football is not going
- 1:05:09Speaker 17: to exist and we're not gonna win games if our
- 1:05:11Speaker 17: defense can do that. And we only managed three points.
- 1:05:14Speaker 17: So there'll be times that, you know, we're going to
- 1:05:18Speaker 17: need the offense to help us and and and possess
- 1:05:23Speaker 17: the football longer to help the defense. And when we
- 1:05:26Speaker 17: get three and outs like that, the offense is going
- 1:05:28Speaker 17: to have to do something. And when we do kickfield goals,
- 1:05:30Speaker 17: we'll have to make them. So again just showing everybody
- 1:05:33Speaker 17: how those things tie in. And then we talked about
- 1:05:36Speaker 17: the second half, and I think we got into the
- 1:05:39Speaker 17: drive and then quickly got out of the drive and
- 1:05:42Speaker 17: then we gave up a touchdown, So.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: You know it was.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: Tough and now great moments in.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: History begging tripped and sprained your.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Ankles and what happens when you run.
- 1:06:00Speaker 16: I sprain mikle pretty bad. That's why you gave it up, right, Yeah,
- 1:06:04Speaker 16: Paul's not running.
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: I've never fallen down while walking. I'm just saying the
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: kindly park ranger trovy homes that cross country stump in
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: the woods.
- 1:06:12Speaker 16: I did have to get a ride home today though,
- 1:06:15Speaker 16: thankfully that was that was that was Megan this morning.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: Yeah, thankfully. I'm like, so I got a ride home.
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: I can't go on the park range that comes riding
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: over Jake Steel.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: You know, would you like to look at the red well.
- 1:06:39Speaker 16: I was a little nervous because I got the ride
- 1:06:42Speaker 16: home from this park ranger, but I didn't want him
- 1:06:44Speaker 16: to know where I live because that's trying to creepy.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Good.
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: We have like the hat on and the shorts and everything.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: Oh yeah, shorts, yes man, no mustache?
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Right, he had his socks arboretum car.
- 1:06:57Speaker 16: It was labeled and everything. And I run through there often,
- 1:07:00Speaker 16: so I'm gonna see him again, and now he knows
- 1:07:02Speaker 16: where I live, so I don't really I don't really
- 1:07:05Speaker 16: like that I wanted him to drop me off like
- 1:07:07Speaker 16: a little ways away, but I really couldn't walk, so
- 1:07:09Speaker 16: it left me.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: You're fine, actually no kick on?
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: No wait yet.
- 1:07:13Speaker 16: Then it would be awkward because I'd be limping down
- 1:07:15Speaker 16: the sidewalk and.
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: Here, let me show you how to make a campfire.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: You have to rub.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: Why do you always have to take way too?
- 1:07:25Speaker 11: They have to do it.
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: That's another great moment from.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriot sunfiltered at eight five
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: to five. Pass five hundred is the hotline podcast at
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Patriots dot com is the email address. Bob in Southern
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: California writes, and he says, I'm not surprised at the outcome.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: How many new faces are we seeing in the first game.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: You can practice all you want, but game action matters.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Vrabel was visibly pissed, and I think some of it
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: has to do with the offensive play calling. You can't
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: expect forty to fifty passes a game. They didn't put
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: our playmakers in a position to succeed.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: So who would those be?
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: By the way the playmakers.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: Henderson, eleven touches not enough for Douglas.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: It was the type of touches we already.
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: With seven targets not enough for him.
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: We already talked about Wes with Henderson.
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I would have given him a wheel road absolutely,
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: based on what I saw in the summer. That's something
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: that I think should be part of the equation. But
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: I just think that you guys are inventing playmakers that
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: they don't have.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: Adam and Louisiana Paul speaking out of both sides of
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: his mouth, he says, they are sending the house because
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: they need to take the ball away. Then that's why
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Davis jumps the route. He's jumping the route to take
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: the ball away. Then he says, well let him catch
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: it and tackle him short. If you're gonna a fair point.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: If you're just gonna let them catch it and tackle
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: them short, why send the house. Just play a normal defense.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: I'm with Evan on this. You can't give up the
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: first down, get them to fourth down, and see if
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: your offense can try to move the ball to scall.
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: The Davis thing with the turnover.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: That's a fair point because he is jumping the route,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: probably with his mind saying it's not enough of me
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: to just tackle him.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: That's a very fair I don't know, but I can
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: it's a very fair retort, I know, but I could
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: also say if it's not working, if you see it,
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: we're not getting there up front.
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: But you can't be the guy.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: I know, but you can't be the guy. I just
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: remember the last resort.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: I'm in twenty nineteen when they ran a lot of
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: cover zero, Boogeyman defense, all that stuff. I just remember
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: talking to Devin and Jason mccordy about cover zero and
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: how you play defense because you're on an island with
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: no help. So you are one on one in a
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: deep part of the field with absolutely no help.
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: So how do you do that?
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: And they both laughed and said the pass rusher better
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: get effing home. That's what they said. Sure, So if
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: you're going to run that defense and you're going to
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: send the house, it's not like the onus is not
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: on Carlton Davis to make the play. The play is
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: supposed to be up front. Yeaw, to Gino's credit, they
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: actually did get some pressure on that play.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: Bought himself a little.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he made a hell of a throw and you
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: gotta tip your cap.
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: I like that because that that is true. Like I'm
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: looking for a turnover. So Davis probably is too. Yeah,
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: and that's why he's he's jumping a little bit. That's
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: a good counter and you usually.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: Think the ball's coming out because there should be pressure
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: on the quarterback right, so he shouldn't have you know,
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: time back there to unload a forty yard deep ball.
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: So it just on that one.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: I think you can chop that up to the play.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Call Iowa Tim. I watched the recorded game. A few observations.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: I wonder if some of Campbell's penalties were from being
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: tired first game and recorders O line never came out. Also,
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: too many zero to five yard passes. Need to move
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: the routes into the ten to twenty yard range. One
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: concern I have is Josh coached his best with Brady.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: He needed to move away from Brady. Brake should be
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: rolling right or left, move the pocket, let Drake improvise
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: at times. Best way to give Drake more time while
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: he gets better.
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: Just some thoughts.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I think he looks great every single time they move
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: the pocket. Now they hit one to Hooper, a little
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: crossing route and the red zone for about ten yards
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: doing it. I just think he looks really natural doing it,
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: and he can throw on the run like that. And
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: he can vomit like he doesn't have limitations from an
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: arm talent standpoint. But in order to really get the
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: bootlegs going, you have to be able to run the ball,
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Like you have to keep them honest by getting outside
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: zone going and getting them to respect the run game
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: to run those boots. But I couldn't agree more. But
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: I think getting him out into space and letting him
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: use his legs to either boot and throw or even
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: if there's nothing there, he can just run himself. It's
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: it's something they need to do more of.
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: Let's go, Mike, Mike, you've got something on you.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: I want to say, Okay, go ahead, you want to
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: save it?
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: Or well, somebody's been thinking about do you think that
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: NFL teams really have no clue what they have until
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: week one? I mean, do you really do anybody really
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: know unless you I mean established team, you know, but
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: especially for a new team with so many new pieces,
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: like did they just get truth bombed? And you know,
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: like you just now we have an immense amount of
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: truth of how this is really going to come together?
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: And can now the adjustments really start?
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: You know, it's hard to like that's the home go
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: into game one where you're like, we don't really know.
- 1:12:19Speaker 18: We don't know how the left side's going to hold up,
- 1:12:21Speaker 18: we don't know what Traveon is going to be able
- 1:12:23Speaker 18: to do. You like, so you're now you have things
- 1:12:26Speaker 18: to go off of and you have some truth to
- 1:12:28Speaker 18: base your adjustments off of. Whereas joint practices, preseason games,
- 1:12:32Speaker 18: training camp practice.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: I mean, the best coach out there said you need
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: five game, five six games before you really know and
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: that and that's when he was Bill Belichick.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: And that's when he was here for twenty years and
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: had the same system right, and had a lot of
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: the same pieces, and the most importantly, had the same
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: We are dismissing now what he's not.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: He's not welcome here, okay, and his thoughts aren't.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: Welcome here either.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: No, but I agree.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: I think I think most coaches would agree with him.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: That's especially now, the way that no one really anything
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: in the summer.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: That's that's like the glass half full way to look
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: at what happened on Sunday. I think today, at least
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: for me, is a day of like venting about what
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: happened on the game on Sunday. But once we start
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: to turn the page, like you hope with a coaching
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: staff with Rabel and Josh McDaniels, who are two veteran
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: coaches that have been around the block and seen a
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: lot of things.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Yeah, that one's don't work.
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: Take us out.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: This is play trash.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: That there's going to be as you guys are one
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: thousand percent right. But I can still I mean, two
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: things can be true. I can still be disappointed that
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: the other team that had all the new pieces was
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: able to better prepare for the opener than the Patriots did. Right,
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: But that guys are absolutely right. Maybe they maybe now
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: they look at it. You know what, Will Campbell he
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: was okay, but I think around that as much as
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: I thought.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: But drilled down even more on it, where it's Gino Smith,
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: a veteran quarterback who's been with numerous teams and been
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: in numerous systems, and you know Pete Carroll who's coached
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: a few different teams, and you know, I get what
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: you're saying, but I'm still saying even within that, there's
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: some nuance to you know, they had some veteran players,
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: whereas the Patriots were playing a few rookies, and you
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: know that I don't know and I also think about
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: last year where maybe the reverse happened, where you win
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: the first game and you're like, oh.
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: We got this.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: This is gonna be good. Ramoni is gonna be breaking
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: tackles all season long, you know, and maybe then in
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: that sense of the word, you're giving yourself a false
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: sense of belief.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: I just think of all these teams in the NFL
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: got a big bunch of truth that maybe they weren't expecting.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: I think that that's how because I think it's a
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: great point. I think that's how Vrabel has set this up.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: Like if he really wanted to come out of the
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: gate firing, they wouldn't have handled training camp in the
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: preseason the way that they did. They would have played
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: starters in the preseason games and they would have really
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: gotten everything.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: And I just would have been coming in and out.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: And I think, like what they they want to have
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: a slow build, They want to they want to be
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: better at the end of the year than they are
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: at the beginning of the year. You just hope you
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: don't put yourself in too big of a hole that
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: it's too late. Like once it starts clicking and you're
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: one in five and you're trying to dig out. But
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: these two coaches make Daniels and Rabel like that's their specialty,
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Like that's their superpower, is their ability to understand you know, Okay,
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: this is what I have, this is what I have
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: to work with, you know, this is what strains are,
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: this is what our weaknesses are. And then being able
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: to just build something around it, like we're able. Didn't
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: have a ton of talent in Tennessee, like those teams
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: weren't weren't loaded, but he figured out what they were
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: really good at and he was able to build around that.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: Derrick Henry, Yeah, took him a couple of years.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: There.
- 1:15:30Speaker 7: Mike and Vermont, what's up, Mike? Mike and Vermont?
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Not there?
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: I was once a Mike informal Okay, how about and
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: going on with the phone?
- 1:15:40Speaker 7: How about Chris and Virginia?
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Chris, I thank thee hell can.
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: Yes, Chris, you got Hi.
- 1:15:47Speaker 20: Hi, guys, So I want to give a little perspective
- 1:15:51Speaker 20: and then ask you a question. I don't think we
- 1:15:54Speaker 20: got blown away by the opposition in the game. We
- 1:15:57Speaker 20: lost it because of our own performances and mistakes, whether
- 1:16:00Speaker 20: that's the players or the coaches and As people have said,
- 1:16:03Speaker 20: this is the first time Vrabel has seen the current
- 1:16:05Speaker 20: set of players in a fully competitive game, first time
- 1:16:09Speaker 20: he's had a chance to assess mistakes in that context,
- 1:16:12Speaker 20: and there have been a lot of changes in personnel
- 1:16:14Speaker 20: both on and off the pitch. But it's really day
- 1:16:17Speaker 20: one for everyone. So my question in relation to the
- 1:16:21Speaker 20: players particularly, is do you think it's better for the
- 1:16:24Speaker 20: rookies and the younger team members to keep taking the field,
- 1:16:28Speaker 20: making those mistakes and hopefully learning from them, or is
- 1:16:32Speaker 20: it better to try and shore up the team with
- 1:16:34Speaker 20: some experience in the rest of the trade window maybe,
- 1:16:37Speaker 20: and then eliminate the mistakes that way and develop your
- 1:16:40Speaker 20: future behind the scenes. Kick up the good work, and
- 1:16:42Speaker 20: I'll take it offline.
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: Going all right, I think you are what you are
- 1:16:45Speaker 7: right now.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: I think you know, if you think like, even if
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: you think, oh, it'd be nice to have some oh,
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I'm sorry, even if you think it'd be nice to
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: have some veterans on the team, it's too late. The
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: guys that you're going to bring in aren't going to
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: be much better than what you got them.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: Or yeah, I also didn't really feel like the keys
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: were to blame. Yeah, Now, it happened in the game.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: Now it goes to kind of what Paul said, it's
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: it's first time Pete Carroll had a chance to see
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: his team too, you know. So, yeah, the other team.
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: Gets paid to like, you're not the only one, Chip Kelly.
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: A new offense and you know, a new quarterback, first
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: game as a Raider.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: It was all new there too, right, and it was
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: a twenty ten ish game. I mean, you know it was.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: It was clear.
- 1:17:27Speaker 7: I agree with what Chris said.
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: We didn't get blown out and they had bunch of three.
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: Now let's not let's not move the goalposts on that.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: We all thought the Patriots are going to win. They
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: were favorite to win. They were playing a very similar
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: team to them, so we let's not hang our hat on.
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: They didn't get blown out, No, but they didn't didn't
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: kind of get blown out in the second half. They
- 1:17:48Speaker 6: lost the second half basically thirteen to nothing.
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: But even though that's not a blowout.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: Well kind of is.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: It's just the offense became inept in the second half.
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: Right, they got they got dominated in the last thirty
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: minutes of the game. My team that is not any
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: better than them, So that part I agree with this
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: wasn't like they got overwhelmed because Baltimore came rolling in
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: here with all their playmakers and they couldn't keep up, right.
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: The other team just played better than they did. Yeah,
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: and I think that they coached better than they did
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: to Yah And I think Rabel actually said that in
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: the I think it was the post game that he said, we.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: Said, we said, don't underestimate Pete Carroll.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: I was really surprised by I thought they adjusted pretty
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: well on defense, and they got those three and those
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: three and outs in the middle of the game there
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: and kind of stabilize a little bit defensively. But I
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: was really surprised that they didn't kind of get a
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: beat on what they were doing the Raiders defense was
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: doing to them to sort of punch back a few times.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: It felt like the only plays that they hit were
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: scripted plays early on in the game that they kind
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: of had ready from the week, and I thought that
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Josh would adjust fast.
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: I think I made the comment during the game to
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: you guys, it kind of looked like two bad teams
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: playing each other that have improved. Both teams have improved
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: from what we saw last year, and there were periods
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: of time during the game where they both looked good. Now,
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: the problem for the Patriots was, I think the Raiders
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: time looking good was longer than the Patriots.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: The Patriots was like that last drive of the first
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: quarter into the second quarter where they kind of, as
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: we said earlier in the show, took control of the game.
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: And then that interception allowed I thought, and I really
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: think that sort of the lack of taking advantage of
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: the opportunities they had in the second quarter really was
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: the difference. But that interception changed it back in the Raiders'
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: favor and the Patriots never got it back again. You know,
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: But there were times where the Patriots were the better
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: team and you want to ask, what's different, you know,
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: why am I thinking this is different than last year? Well,
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: I don't think there were very many times in those
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: games last year that they lost that they looked like
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: the better team for any consistent stretch of time.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: And that's what makes it so frustrating that they laid
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: an egg in the second half because they were in
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: the game, they were winning, you know, and just to
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: see that dramatic drop off, it's just a little bit
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: more jarring when you were starting to get hopeful.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Yep. Valentin from Switzerland. I have questioned for Evan. You
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: said earlier in the show that the scheme was vanilla.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Is it possible that the scheme was vanilla because that
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: was only what May could run and McDaniels is concerned
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: that he can read that he can't read more complicated stuff.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: I didn't really, guys, I don't know. I didn't really
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: think that reading the field was his biggest issue. And
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: I know that that's I've seen that a little bit
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: that people feel that way.
- 1:20:38Speaker 11: I did not.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: I didn't think that he was missing open, guys, as
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: much as with his eyes as he was with his arm.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Like you know, it's not you didn't miss Pob Douglas
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: on the first third down of the play of the
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: game and just not see him open. He just airmailed
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: it ten yards over his head. Like I thought that
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: that was more of a of an issue than like
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: reading things. Now, motion is set in place by the quarterback,
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: and that's a big reason why Miami is so good
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: with Tua normally so good with two are but falls
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: off a cliff with every other quarterback, is because a
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: lot of the the point guarding that Tua does is
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: very specific to Tua, and it's sort of what makes
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: that whole thing go for them. It's like their engine.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: But that's that's motion at like a different level. Like
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: you know, that's that's as sophisticated of emotion package as
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: you have in the league.
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: You said, funny, you said point guard. In pregame last night,
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: Kyle Williams was saying that Ben Johnson was telling him
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: the philosophy was be the point guard and then when
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: it's time to be Superman, be Superman, And that was
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: interesting coming from him, as he seems like he needs
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: to be Superman to really be him and still felt
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: to me early on like he was being Superman.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: I thought both those guys, you know, I watched most
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: of the game last night with two tight pants guys,
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: you know, so I had to go watch convoys saw them. Yeah, Caleb,
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: I thought had a lot of the same issues as Drake, Like,
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: there was certainly some good plays mixed in there, and
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: there's some sprays where the ball is just nowhere close
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: to the rest.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: What do you think about the play calling for uh,
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: Ben Johnson? Ben Johnson, I thought it was pretty good.
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: I like the flow of that game I like what
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: I was seeing, Like, yeah, it's you know, like I
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: talk about getting a defense on their heels, I thought
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: he had them on their heels.
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's tough to say because I think he stripped
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: it down so much because he doesn't have the talent
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: that he had in Detroit. And I know in the
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: broadcast they said that he's really trying to get them
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: to like do elementary things before they start doing all
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: the crazy stuff that they were doing with the Lions,
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: and so it was definitely a watered down version of
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: Ben Johnson's offense compared to what he was running in Detroit.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: But I didn't think the play calling was a huge issue.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: I thought Caleb missed a lot of throws, especially.
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: But I thought that plits were there.
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: But I also think you're going against a much more
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: difficult defense Minnesota's defense, and Flores has a reputation of
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: being difficult to play against, scheme against, so I think
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: there's a lot of different things that play. I didn't
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: see the second half, and I know it got bad.
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: For k I only saw the first half.
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: The blitzed the crap out.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: Of I know it got bad in the second half.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: Minnesota blitzing.
- 1:23:22Speaker 7: Wow, Well they.
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: Didn't blitz in the first half, and I think they
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: were trying to rope a dobe them by not blitzing.
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: He know, it's comfortable. When I saw I didn't think
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: that he was doing the Superman thing. I think he
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: was just taking the little checkdowns across you know, you know,
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: just a little sitting in a zone, you know, eight
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: yards downfield in between the hashes hit. You're giving me that,
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: I'm just going to take these easy throws. That's how
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: we got the ten. I think it was ten for ten.
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: You know, it culminated with that ridiculous throwing the sideline
- 1:23:50Speaker 6: to Roma Dunday.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: That was just unbelievable with Joe Milton.
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: If that wasn't a play design, that was just him
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: making a play.
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: Yea.
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: Dolphins signing Cole Strange.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: Oh it's on is on.
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: They have a lot of injuries in Dolphins.
- 1:24:06Speaker 7: Let's go to Sean and Vancouver can tell I.
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: Don't know what we're running.
- 1:24:12Speaker 9: I got Yeah, I got two comments in one question.
- 1:24:17Speaker 9: So I was at the game and the weather for
- 1:24:19Speaker 9: me was was like November and Vancouver, so I'm used
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: to it. It's not a big deal. But I was
- 1:24:25Speaker 9: disappointed that there were so many empty seats. It's like
- 1:24:27Speaker 9: all these season ticket holders are are pink cats. I
- 1:24:30Speaker 9: don't know. Uh So that was a little disappointing. The
- 1:24:33Speaker 9: other thing is the turning point, like Paul said, was
- 1:24:36Speaker 9: when Trick makes through that interception, and to me, like
- 1:24:40Speaker 9: it's really about overcoming that. That's what we need to
- 1:24:43Speaker 9: get to. The next step is like can you get
- 1:24:45Speaker 9: over this adversity and and do something positive after that?
- 1:24:50Speaker 9: So that's what I want to see in Miami Sunday.
- 1:24:54Speaker 9: You're right, definitely, definitely. Now, uh Fred, this is for you.
- 1:24:58Speaker 9: This is a question you said, and I agree with it.
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: They have to pass against the Dolphins. I got to
- 1:25:04Speaker 9: start off passing. But which way do you think will
- 1:25:06Speaker 9: be more effective? To be empty and spread or you know,
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: come out like you look like you're going to run.
- 1:25:13Speaker 9: So you have in the backfield Westover and maybe Trevian
- 1:25:18Speaker 9: Henderson and then you have Diggs and Pop and Henry
- 1:25:23Speaker 9: you knows as your receivers, and then you you do
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: a play action and try and get them off off
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: guard there.
- 1:25:30Speaker 8: So I'll leave that for you and you can discuss.
- 1:25:32Speaker 21: Thanks.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Thanks, Sean. I think he's referring to after the post game,
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: I said, you know, I'm not sure right now they're
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: good enough to be balanced. I think they have to
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: go into a game with say this is what we're
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: going to do. We're going to aligneman, get ready to
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: fire off on every snap because we're going to be
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: running the ball, or get ready to pass probe because
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: we're going to be passed. I don't know, like right
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: right now, if they're ready to say we're going to
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: be able to be balanced this game. I think they
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: have to get a defense on their heels doing one
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: thing and then you can do something else. I don't know.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: I like it, just it's just my feeling.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: I would target Miami's run defense how they looked well,
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: then then go into the game.
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: I would do the opposite. I would target the secondary.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: It's completely decimated the run defense. The first half, the
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: Colts averaged like three and a half yards to carry,
- 1:26:25Speaker 6: like they got a lot of yards, but because they would.
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: They had a thirty point lead the whole game, and
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: they just kept running the ball. In the whole second half.
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: They didn't run it all that effectively, but Daniel Jones
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: threw for like two hundred and eighty yards. They scored
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: every time they had the ball. Every time. Daniel Jones
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: like the same guy that we saw with the Lions
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: and the joint practices. Mike, I still go back to that.
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: I know that's not fair to Daniel Jones. I know
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: he's but like the.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: Naked boot like him just running and then running. And
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: I think that they got some yardage in that game.
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: For Jones ran for a couple of touchdowns, not really
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: you know, necessarily stopping the run. And I think the
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: dueling kid had like a big run on an end
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: a round. But Jonathan Taylor average less than four yards
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: of carry in the second back average less than four
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: yards to carry. They and they those two combined for
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: thirty carries. So the top two guys in conventional running
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: had thirty carries for less than four yards of carry.
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: And it was I thought, maybe, well, maybe this number
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: got knocked down because at the end of the game
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: they were just running and getting two yard runs. But
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: I looked at the first half, and the first half
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: wasn't good either, but they were.
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: Pretty successful running the ball, like in terms of you
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: know success, right, things like you know, just picking up
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: the amount of yards that first.
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: They had a lot of yards. They had a lot
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: of Yeah, I think they ran for like one hundred
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: and sixty yards.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Agree with you that it wasn't It took a high
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: volume to get to the one fifty. But you know,
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: I don't think that the Dolphins ever really like stop them.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: In the run game.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: They didn't stop them anything, obviously, but seven for seven
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: in scoring drives and there's some long drives.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that when you face you know, Weaver
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: and Anthony Weaver, their defensive coordinator last year, just blitz
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: the crap out of Drake May in that game down
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: there in Miami.
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: I just look at the I'm just looking at personnel
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: and I'm like, so up front they got guys like
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: Sealer and you know, they got some linebackers. Is it
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: is Dotson the guy that they have Terrell Dotson.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: I haven't gotten that deep into Miami yet.
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: They have some decent personnel on the front set. They
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: have nothing in the same It's it's like, yeah, that's
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: Jack Jones. They just signed like three weeks ago, and
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: he's like their best corner by far. That they lost
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: two different starters in the preseason. They lost another starter,
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: Storm Duck I just like saying that name in the game.
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: You know, Mika Fitzpatrick is back there, but you know
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: you got he hasn't been the same. I just look
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: at the secondary and I'm like, where's the personnel that
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: you want to take advantage of? It's probably back there,
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: I don't. I guess you sort of a lot yourself
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: to say, like, what's the only thing that the Dolphins
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: have going for him? Is like Jalen Phillips and Bradley
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: Chubb and Job Robinson, And maybe those guys have an
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: impact on the game if you want to just make
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: it a drop back game.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: But I mean, I just think they butts a lot,
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: and they butts creatively as well, And a lot of
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: their blitzing last year gave me a lot of problems
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: in that game. And I think as a result of
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: like being in the gun is probably the best thing
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: that you can do, because you start turning around and
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: play actioning and his backs to the line of scrimmage
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: and there's guys coming and guys dropping and all this
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: different stuff. It can be hard to decipher, hard to
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: read those types of things. But I'm with you, Paul.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: I mean, I think their secondary is definitely there.
- 1:29:45Speaker 6: Dotson was the guy was thinking of. And Jordan Brooks
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: is a pretty good linebacker too. I just look at
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: those guys in the back end and I say, let's
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: see if they can cover.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: Yeah, let's see if would would you go out and
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: we're throwing?
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: That was there.
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: I'm stealing Fred's theory from him. That was your post
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: game take. That scares me. I mean the goal. I'm
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: just saying this should be balanced. I think that's what.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: I don't want to not run it at all.
- 1:30:09Speaker 7: I just think the goal of this game was to
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: be balanced too.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: I hear it Fred is saying. I. I just it's
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: a really hard way to live, to be one dimensional.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: I know it's just really predictable.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: But can we establish something that we're doing well.
- 1:30:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't want to be one dimensional.
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: No, I don't.
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: I don't want to be one dimensional.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: There's a difference. I want to come out throwing and
- 1:30:29Speaker 6: have some success right now. You know, maybe it's the
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: first drive, right, you know, maybe I go to the defensive.
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: Maybe tell me about ten plays, seventy yards or a touchdown,
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: and I threw it seven out of the ten plays,
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: and then I come out the next drive, and I'm like, Okay, now,
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: let's let's get the.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: Running backs going.
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: You know, I don't want to throw the ball forty
- 1:30:46Speaker 6: six times or run an eighteen. I don't want to
- 1:30:48Speaker 6: do that every week. I don't think that. I agree
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: with Mike and Evan. That's not a form just for success.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: Let's establish something DS in Baltimore. What's up, D.
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: It's disgusted.
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: Maybe that was something Hello, Hey, how you guys doing
- 1:31:05Speaker 6: all right?
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:31:08Speaker 22: And I agree with what you said earlier about the
- 1:31:10Speaker 22: office being real Vanilla.
- 1:31:12Speaker 20: I don't know if it's a.
- 1:31:13Speaker 22: Thing with McDaniels, maybe stuck in his ways and want
- 1:31:16Speaker 22: to run an offense like he ran it ten years ago,
- 1:31:18Speaker 22: which ain't gonna work into the day's NFL. I don't
- 1:31:20Speaker 22: know why you just don't add a little misdirection or something.
- 1:31:23Speaker 22: So it's too blaying.
- 1:31:24Speaker 23: It's not.
- 1:31:25Speaker 22: It's not fooling. Nobody's just like line up against my
- 1:31:28Speaker 22: guys and your guys that we're gonna run y all over.
- 1:31:30Speaker 22: It ain't gonna work.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: I'm with you, yeah, I that's just the way I
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: feel about it. Just it's not so much to play
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: calling necessarily, it's to play design and the whole the
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: design of what they're running schematically, it just you're talking
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: about Paul you know, like Daniel Jones, like having a
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: big game well, because Shane Stikeen is one of the
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: best offensive play callers and offensive minds in the league,
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: and he just makes it easy for you. He just
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: has different tricks that you know, they're motioning their RPOs,
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: they're rolling them out and play action and like you're
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: not asking the quarterback to do all this heavy lifting.
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: And I don't necessarily know if he has too much
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: on his plate, but I think the head coach is
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: starting to think maybe he has too much on his
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: headplay on his plate. And I think that that relates
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: to when your drop back and you're the guy that's
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: the trigger man in terms of the protections and all
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: this different stuff, and you got to get the protection right,
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: and then you got to snap the ball, then you
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: got to read the defense, then you got to get
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: it to the right guy, and then you got to
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: throw it well and like all these different things. And
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: I just watched Daniel Jones play and he just runs,
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: you know, like an RPO and Michael Pittman slips out
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: into the flat and he throws the ball to him
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: three yards away and it's a twelve yard game, you know,
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: And like I don't see that from the Patriots. I
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: don't see easy lay up scheme to open throw.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: Certainly not enough of the movement.
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: Like I would say that that throw to Hunter Henry
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: down the side line was an example of that, but
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: we didn't see enough of them. To Haven's point, I just.
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: Want once for Evan to be excited about the Patriots
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: scheme because I feel like this is like definitely last year.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: I don't know about the Billy Oh year, but the
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: map were you with us? The mapatris A year two?
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: Like I feel like, go look at like the Tuesday
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: show after week one or week two, and it is
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: like an Evans lament, Like.
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: Well, it's just like it's two different trees, right, like
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: I just talked about like Stiking is from like the
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: Philly Andy Reid tree and then you have the West
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: Coast guys, and like those are the two different trees,
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: and they're still running this offense that's just in neither world,
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: Like it's just his own thing, that's archaic, Like it's
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: just it's been it's been done. It's old it's outdated
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: and they.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: Run instead of they keep doing it and it's just
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: like it's tough. What it I mean, just how the film?
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: Just asked him how the film was yesterday while he's
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: breaking it down, and it's not good Bob. Yeah, let's
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: go get something to eat.
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: Is going to take a while.
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: Uh when you do the break you're at home?
- 1:34:04Speaker 21: Right?
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: What are you wearing? Are you when you're underwear? Are
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: you nude?
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: How do you do it?
- 1:34:10Speaker 18: What?
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: I don't know?
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: Like, so you know freeze in his sensory depication, is
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: there a certain thing that sounds.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: Like you have to have things a certain way? Your
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: clothes you're lighting? How does it work?
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: Now? There's definitely a coffee. There's definitely a coffee for sure.
- 1:34:28Speaker 7: Coffee coffee.
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: Are we music? What are we listening to?
- 1:34:31Speaker 7: Silence?
- 1:34:31Speaker 21: Oh?
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: I can't do music, it's too distracting. Dog No, he's
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: really next next to me.
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: Okay, he said the dog came in yesterday and was
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: like wolf and like you said it.
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: Out yeah yeah, okay. The windows that you're doing, yes,
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: there are windows.
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: There are deuces, right.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: I I hate myself on Tuesdays. I hate myself on Mondays,
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: because all I want to see is the Patriots score
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: some freaking points. And it's just it's absolutely nauseating that
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: this is.
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: For three years? What is it twenty two Zappi and Cleveland, Right,
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: it's still still taking away the last thirty point game.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: And I don't need fifty, Like if we hang thirty
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: on somebody anyway.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, like literally just have forty eight in the preseason.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was the best I felt about this
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: team in three years.
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: Just score some points.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: Do something offense.
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: Sean's and Virginia, Hey Sean, Sean, what's going on doing there?
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: He is.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Good?
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: Good.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: I don't want to stop about saying like I don't
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: I don't care like who the OC is.
- 1:35:41Speaker 12: Uh.
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: You know, if you have a quarterback that doesn't have
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: great fours in the pocket, get deliver the ball with Acrocy.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: It's not gonna matter who the person is calling the
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: signals because this he's not telling it enough for a
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: guy to miss and throw with an opportunities like that,
- 1:35:53Speaker 5: they can't overcome it. So people can talk about what
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: the defense is not doing and not doing it, not
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: doing that, whatever, But you gotta be able to score
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: a point. That's the reason why this team continues to
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: lose weekend and week out because they can't score points.
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: Raise defensive at tal get with the same you are
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: the tom and also twenty points game. Twenty points is
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: not to give up in the game. How would you
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: put up thirty points? Put up thirty five, put up forty?
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: The uscw's in the column. That's all I gotta say.
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: All right, thanks Sean, he's right with Evan, He's not wrong.
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: Points.
- 1:36:19Speaker 6: That's really they don't move the ball and score enough.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: If they we did. We're talking about this since the
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: breaker when we were talking about this. Uh, if they
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: lost this game thirty five to thirty, then I would
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: have been in much better mood like it.
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: Just I wouldn't have Yeah, Jets lost, right, and that
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: was the game that I brought up.
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: I don't think the Jets are a great team, but
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: at least you looked if you're a Jet fan, and
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: you looked at you got the new quarterback in Justin Fields,
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: and you're trying to figure out where you might be
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: and well, Gee's first game he came out, he put
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: thirty two on the board. It's a game they probably
- 1:36:51Speaker 6: should have won. So you're really disappointed that they didn't
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: find a way to win the game, but at least
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: you have something to have some hope for. And I'm
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: not saying this there's no hope with New England, because
- 1:37:00Speaker 6: I do think it everything you guys are talked about
- 1:37:02Speaker 6: in the first hour of the show, I agree with.
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: They'll get better. It's one game. They you know, I
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: think they had an opportunity to be more successful in
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: terms of points in the first half, and they squandered
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: some of those chances.
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: Yeah, they did. But they'll get They'll get better.
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: But I would much rather be talking about a thirty
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: four to thirty two loss than a twenty to thirteen loss.
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: I mean, we've seen this twenty to thirteen loss for
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: three we sure have, and it's just the same thing.
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: And I know it was Bill O'Brien and it was
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: Matt Patricia doing the offshoot of Josh mcdaniels's offense. And
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: you know, even AVP last year, it's just the av
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: We talked about it with AVP, like he he's running
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: a system that.
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: Is old school.
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: Also just an old school West Coast instead of old
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: school EP. It's just but it's still was a system
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: that wasn't brought to life like that hasn't been updated.
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: Devin and Belleville rights.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: And there always seems to be this perception of Booty
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: that he's a throwaway piece, so that he's someone would
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: trying to replace. Wasn't he at one point in college
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: a highly regarded prospect my opinion, he is one of
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: the only receivers we have to consistently to consistently exceed
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: my expectations of him. He also seems to have a
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: knack for making a play or coming down with a
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: ball when given the opportunity. Add with that with the
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: rapport he seems to have with Drake, why does he
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: always seem to be overlooked?
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: Who's overlooking him?
- 1:38:23Speaker 6: It's a good point. Now, I think the team is
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: the ones that overlook him. I think every year, you know,
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: different coaching staffs, because the same thing happened to him
- 1:38:31Speaker 6: last year. He had to sort of reprove himself. He
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: was during training camp last year, a lot of people
- 1:38:36Speaker 6: thought he was going to get cut, and then he
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: had that kind of controversial podium visit at training camp.
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: Report he thought he was a lock. Do you remember that?
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: Ye ye?
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: And then he has a decent year, you know, and
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: this year, new regime comes in, and the first thing
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: that we see about Kayshan Bouti is ESPN. I think
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fouler said that he's a veteran
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: that could be available via trade before the draft, right,
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: and he had to sort of prove himself all over again.
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: You're hearing a lot of talk about he's impressed us
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: with his professionalism.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: It's like.
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: They're the coaches are the ones that are overlooking him,
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: and I don't have the anter as to why.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: I don't know why.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: David and Maryland. By my count, Gino Smith has beating
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: the Patriots on three different teams, Jets, Seahawks, and Raiders, Paul,
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: can you think of another quarterback has done the same
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: thing with multiple teams? Are there any others who have
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: done so?
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: Thrice?
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: With Fitzpatrick, I.
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: Do not recall Geno Smith beating him with the Jets,
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: but I'll.
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: Take you an overtime game, right, yeah.
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: Ryan Fitzpatrick beat him in overtime, I think, so. I
- 1:39:40Speaker 6: know Ryan Fitzpatrick beat him with the Jets and the Bills.
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: It wasn't like a mistake Miami. Oh yeah, good.
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: That was the game that knocked him out of the
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: bye the first round by in nineteen.
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: It always comes back to fitzmagic journeyman.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure, well he's a big time journey Oh yeah,
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: the journey man. I'm pretty sure he beat the beat
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: the Patriots with the Jets. I know he beat him
- 1:40:04Speaker 6: with Buffalo thirty four to thirty one in Buffalo. Yeah,
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: otherwise known as the Zach Sudfeldt.
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: Kind of the question that I think twenty fifteen they
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: beat them. Maybe it I feel like Chris Jones, not
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: the good Chris Jones, the old Chris Jones and Patriot.
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: I am like nine Shorg Gino beat us with the
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: Jets in overtime around the beginning of Genus.
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: So maybe that's the game I'm I'm giving to Ryan Fitzpatrick.
- 1:40:26Speaker 6: I thought it was Ryan Fitzpatrick to Eric Decker in overtime,
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: but maybe it was Gino.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: It might have been both.
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: Uh Sam and Saint Catharines.
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Evan going on a long winded explanation that Barmore and
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: Williams didn't drop and cover it, but rather dropped into
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: an area and disrupt the passing late is peak pure
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: to beat.
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: The Patriots in overtime in thirteen.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: We are so back, baby, this is what Deuce was
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: excited for. Who needs twelve and four in AFC Championship
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: games every year?
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: Boring Squisch the fish.
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: Let's go who was that?
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: Sam and Saint Catherine?
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: I appreciate that so, thank you. I'd like to get
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: back to the twelve.
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: Do you?
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: I'm going to guys now you want to go back
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: to it, I'm.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: Ready to go back now.
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: You you don't appreciate it until you don't have it anymore.
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: So now that you've made that admission, maybe Fred and
- 1:41:14Speaker 6: I will stop.
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: No, you won't never know.
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: No, we won't because it never fails to put a smile.
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: I'm so tired of twelve.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: It's so exciting to see what's going to happen. I'm
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: glad I did some exciting going twelve forever year with
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: my first couple of years on the show. That has
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: now resonated through all of my time here that I
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: will never live down. I think it's good.
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: Uh, let's go to our friend Christian in La.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: He's not there on himself this time.
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: That's his best call ever.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: Wow, Will's and Philly Willem and Philam what's up? What's
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: going on?
- 1:41:47Speaker 8: How you doing?
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:41:50Speaker 10: Uh?
- 1:41:52Speaker 24: I'm so pissed with.
- 1:41:56Speaker 23: Season? Are you kidd of me?
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: Don't swear? Two?
- 1:42:01Speaker 20: Okay?
- 1:42:01Speaker 23: Two questions? Well I have more than that, but I'm
- 1:42:05Speaker 23: just noticed the two that I'm getting off there with it, Well,
- 1:42:09Speaker 23: no one is a question. The other one is really
- 1:42:11Speaker 23: about the twenty twenty twenty twenty four draft class. If
- 1:42:15Speaker 23: Drake May does not pened out, do you know that
- 1:42:18Speaker 23: none of your players, like nothing pinned it out, like
- 1:42:21Speaker 23: the receivers, the receivers that we drafted, the offensive line,
- 1:42:25Speaker 23: the one tight end with James Bell, Jalen Poe all.
- 1:42:31Speaker 23: I mean, wouldn't that be a question towards Elliott wolf
- 1:42:35Speaker 23: and no scouts over there? I was not keen about
- 1:42:38Speaker 23: neither the scouts or or even Elliot Wolf out. They
- 1:42:42Speaker 23: need to be gone after this. Unfortunately, I don't want
- 1:42:45Speaker 23: to see nobody get fired, But god damn you. None
- 1:42:48Speaker 23: of your players in twenty twenty four, none, nobody pinned
- 1:42:53Speaker 23: it out.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: It's not a good track.
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: The biggest reason why the Patriots are in the situation
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: they're in their inability to draft well cansistantly over the
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: last yeah, ten years, yep, long time.
- 1:43:03Speaker 23: Now, yeah, it sucks so bad. I mean it's it's
- 1:43:09Speaker 23: oh my god. And then my last my last question
- 1:43:13Speaker 23: is this is uh, this is for evident. If the
- 1:43:18Speaker 23: Patriots lose this next game against the Dolphins, we already
- 1:43:21Speaker 23: know the track record with that. Gentleman, When do you
- 1:43:24Speaker 23: think the players are going to start talking again and
- 1:43:28Speaker 23: giving push back and stop and probably won't believe in
- 1:43:31Speaker 23: what coach Rabel is trying to sell the team.
- 1:43:34Speaker 8: And I'll leave it that day.
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: Take care of Gumen.
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know why that's directed to happen.
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: I wonder why that's a that's a pretty big stretch.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: I don't think so we're going there.
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: I have some thoughts on that.
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: Can I.
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: Think that's one of the reasons why no, no, I
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: think that's one of the reasons why Rabel was so
- 1:43:56Speaker 6: determined to sort of move on from as many veterans
- 1:43:59Speaker 6: as he did, because veterans are the ones that sort
- 1:44:01Speaker 6: of pack it in when things aren't looking good, because
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: they know what it looks like when it's potentially going
- 1:44:06Speaker 6: to turn around. Young guys don't know any better. Young
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: guys are still fighting for their NFL career, you know,
- 1:44:13Speaker 6: so if they're one in five, young guys are going
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: to continue to show up to work with the same
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: attitude in trying to so that like, I got to
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: show these guys that I belong in the NFL and
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: I'm part of the future. Whereas you know, and I'm
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: not saying any of the individual names, but everybody knows
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: all the veterans that are no longer here. When you
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: get to one in five and you're a veteran's been
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: in the league for seven years, you're not sitting there saying, wow, jeez,
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: we're going to rattle off, you know, eleven in a
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: row and make the playoffs. They know better they're not
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: going to do that.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: Yeah, Evan and I talked a little bit about this
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: of you know, is there a culture of losing around here?
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: A little bit that they've tried to get rid of,
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: and Rabel talked about after the game that you know,
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: he said it all off season. There's gonna be hard
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: times to arrive. There's going to be times when we
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: have to figure out who we are and it goes
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: a little bit towards you know, what I said about
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: your first game when you get some truth, well, now
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: you have immediately a little bit of adversity to face,
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: and it doesn't get easier. You got to go on
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: to Miami. I mean that's we all know how hard
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: it is to play down there, and what's going to
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: be on Drake in that game in terms of just
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: the conditions, Miami playing desperate. So I I'm just interested
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: to see how they react. But to the caller's point,
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: this does this help him weed out guys who are
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: I don't know, part of a losing culture and just
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: don't have that kind of Nope, not this year. I'll
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: just I'll show up, I'll catch my paycheck, I'll do
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: what I got to do.
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: But I'm not gonna And I do think that's why
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: he was And I'm not telling you that every one
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: of those decisions was the right one. I think there's
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: some of the some of those veterans that are no
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: longer here could certainly be helping the team. But to
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: come back, you know, I think we were talking about
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: Jabrill Peppers last week and I was like, I didn't
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: really get it. You know what that might be why
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: and this is not That's not a knock on Peppers.
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: Peppers is a veteran.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: I used to talk to someone. I don't want to
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: ascribe this to any players specifically, but they know what
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: it looks like.
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: They know what it looks like, or they don't. You know,
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: some of these guys have not really been around.
- 1:46:09Speaker 6: A lot, but there's some veterans that do, and they
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: they were part of good teams and then they know
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: what it looks like when they when it's not potential
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: to turn around. I remember in eight, right the the
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: Matt Castle year, we did a Patriots Monday back in
- 1:46:23Speaker 6: right in this studio, Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren. You know,
- 1:46:27Speaker 6: I remember like they were sort of overachieving and they
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: were playing well and they had the big win in
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: the wind in Buffalo and it's like eleven and five.
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: I remember talking to them. It was like, you know,
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: do you guys feel like and they lost on the tiebreaker,
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: they missed, they missed out on a on a playoff berth,
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: Did you guys kind of feel like you were peaking
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: at the right time and you would have been dangerous?
- 1:46:46Speaker 6: And they looked no, both of them, Tywarren and Vince Wilford,
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: guys that have been involved with Super Bowls. You know,
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: in Warren's case two and will Fork's case one, they
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: were like, no, no, no, we were hanging were hanging
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: on we were running on fumes. We didn't have it.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: We didn't have it, especially against the good teams. That
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: was the right.
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: They don't recognize, you know what I mean, can't beat
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: the good team.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: You're looking at them more realistic than we.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: Correct And I think that sometimes veterans will tell you, yeah,
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: they might be getting better, but we're a long way away.
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: They know, because they're smart enough to know.
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: I just worry about, you know, for some of the
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: guys that I want to single anybody out. But the standard,
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: like the standard of this is not acceptable, these types
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: of mistakes, these types of uh, you know, it's third
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: and one and we really need to pick up this
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: first down and you don't even really don't have a
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: competitive block, right like that. That's that's something that happens
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: with four win teams. That doesn't happen with twelve and
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: four teams. And so that standard I got those.
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: Boring three runs on third.
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: Oh we already, cup.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: I just wonder because you know, I'll sing out in
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: a positive way I thought Milton Williams was awesome in
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: this game. And Milton Williams just won a Super Bowl
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: with the Eagles and he can come out in this
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: game on Sunday and he is a game wrecker. Like
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: he is firing into gaps, he's off the ball first guy,
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: he's pressuring quarterback, he's making run stops like he's making plays,
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: and that's the standard, Like that's a that's a tone
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: setting standard. And I don't know if the guys that
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: have been here for the last handful of years or
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: have been on other teams that have lost, like I
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: don't know if they play to that level of Milton
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: Williams or even Harold Landry, who I thought brought the
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: same type of energy on Sunday.
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: And I just worry both guys with something are proof.
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: Yeah you know what I mean. So like we need
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: some veterans, but let's let's have incentivized you know, you know,
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: Landry's basically trying to resurrect his career coming off of
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: an injury in a in a sub part season for him,
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: and Williams wants to substantiate that huge contract.
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: And every doubt right, And I just say I think
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: it's good that you have those players highlight as a
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: coach and say this is what we're looking for, Whereas
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: the past couple of years, I don't know how many
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: of those guys you had, right Matthews in Arizona, Hey Matthew, how.
- 1:49:22Speaker 8: Are you guys doing today?
- 1:49:23Speaker 13: Okay, yeah, I emailed today. I emailed a few days ago.
- 1:49:29Speaker 13: May not have read earlier. But you know there is
- 1:49:32Speaker 13: a reason why you know, the NFL doesn't use there
- 1:49:34Speaker 13: our Perkins offensive system. I think watching the first game,
- 1:49:38Speaker 13: I think it's I look at it as like a
- 1:49:40Speaker 13: square peg in a round hole, like it's trying to
- 1:49:42Speaker 13: But Drake May who's more of a spreading offensive Let's
- 1:49:46Speaker 13: Coast type of player, a scramble player into a system
- 1:49:50Speaker 13: that's more of like a pro style, and so I
- 1:49:52Speaker 13: think it's more of a compatibility issue with the Dress
- 1:49:54Speaker 13: medio system overall, and I think him trying to work
- 1:49:59Speaker 13: in that system is much less capacitive compatible to Matt
- 1:50:02Speaker 13: Jones for Brady, because they work better in that system
- 1:50:06Speaker 13: in general. I don't know what your thoughts are, but
- 1:50:08Speaker 13: I just I think Drake worked better in a less
- 1:50:11Speaker 13: offense in my opinion.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, Matthew.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: I I would say it's more of like a theory
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: at this point than like a fact that he can't
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: succeed in this offense. It's way too early to say
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: that he can't succeed in this offense. But it's on
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: my mind, Like I just I don't think he can't succeed.
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: I just wonder if it's really bringing out the best
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: in him, Like if it's really amplifying the right things.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: Let's see Chris with a T, I A N. What's up, Christian?
- 1:50:42Speaker 12: Oh no, we suck a game.
- 1:50:47Speaker 21: I don't want to overreact, but I will. It just
- 1:50:52Speaker 21: didn't look It was so copy and I get it
- 1:50:56Speaker 21: was so past heavy in the in the second half.
- 1:50:59Speaker 21: The worst thing that you could do is compare it
- 1:51:00Speaker 21: to other teams. But you watch them. Minnesota game last night,
- 1:51:04Speaker 21: JJ McCarty through three quarters wasn't good and then the
- 1:51:07Speaker 21: fourth quarter something just clicked.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: And I'm just.
- 1:51:10Speaker 21: Waiting for something to click with Drake. You know, I
- 1:51:14Speaker 21: need that drive where we go seven to seven right
- 1:51:16Speaker 21: down the field. The offense looks good. At least give
- 1:51:19Speaker 21: us that late, you know, give us that and if
- 1:51:24Speaker 21: we have that, be like Okay, it's there.
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: It's there.
- 1:51:28Speaker 21: We can see it, right if they get If they
- 1:51:30Speaker 21: get like two and two through the first four games,
- 1:51:33Speaker 21: I think that's huge for this team based on the
- 1:51:35Speaker 21: way they looked on Sunday.
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: I mean, that's what I'd be saying if I was
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: a Vikings fan, you didn't have that great a game,
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: but when it mattered, he stepped up.
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: He did.
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: You know, it's also his first game. I know, right,
- 1:51:46Speaker 6: but no, but I'm just saying there is a difference
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: between playing ten or eleven games in one.
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: No, I know, but like if you can, if you
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: do it in your first game, the chances are you'll
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: be able to do it later.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you know, I give what Christian saying. And
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: even just in the locker room after that game, Kevin
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: O'Connell pumping JJ McCarthy up and the way the team
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: reacted to him, Yeah, you know, that's just I was jealous,
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: Like that's what you want to see, Like just the
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: confidence I want that, I.
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: Want jealousy on the school thing. It's what's going on.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: I am the furthest thing from a JJ McCarthy guy.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: But he's got one fourth quarter comeback and Drake has
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: zero and he started one game.
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, and that's just that's just the fact.
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: I mean, it wasn't just a comeback.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: I score he played terrible and like I said, like
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: everyone is killing him, like his career was decided in
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: the first half of the first game.
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: Not all fourth quarter comebacks are built the same. Like
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: sometimes you know you're going to tie. You know, the
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: other team kicks a field goal to tie the game,
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: and you go down and kick a field goal to
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: win the buzzer. This is like they're down two scores
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: in the fourth quarter and he put twenty one points
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: on the way.
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: I didn't see it.
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: I don't know. If the Bears turn it over and
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: give him short, I don't. I didn't say they kicked
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: off at the end, but that was different.
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: But but you know, ply they to say if they
- 1:52:58Speaker 7: don't bite when they're puppies.
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: But was there and the Beers that did Chicago, you know,
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: turn the ball.
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: Over or they couldn't move the ball, So I guess, like,
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: you know, short, but it was three three and outs.
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, okay, So give give some credit to Minnesota
- 1:53:12Speaker 6: the like I would say, just even.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: Regardless of how good or bad it was for the quarterback,
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: involved just that moment and the team believing in him.
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: That's going to help him enormously. That's he's going to
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: believe in him now. And you know, I just Drake
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: still kind of waiting for that moment, right and.
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: Drake's defense J J. McCarthy has Justin Jefferson, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: and Kevin O'Connell. You know, I think Kevin O'Connell right now,
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: there's a case to be made he might be the
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: best head coach in the NFL. Like he is everything
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: that you want, but in everything.
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: In defense for them, you know, they were missing their
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: second guy in Addison, and they were missing their left
- 1:53:49Speaker 6: tackle and Darisaw like they were missing big pieces of
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: their offense.
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: Sure, but you know you and Jefferson certainly was not healthy. Yeah,
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: and one of the best receivers in football, he's the best,
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: he's arguably the but he was not healthful. Well, you know,
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: one of the drives that specifically where they were, they
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: one of the big drives that they put together. They
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: just decided, oh, right, like we have Justin Jefferson, We're
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: gonna start throwing that guy the football. And he made
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: a couple of big plays.
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: That's all all right, let's go to the other Christian.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: He's in LA.
- 1:54:19Speaker 7: What's up Christian.
- 1:54:21Speaker 8: Well, you guys don't need me to be a negative Nellie,
- 1:54:24Speaker 8: but I'm going to tell you this. It's not going
- 1:54:27Speaker 8: to get better, guys to get better at what This
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: is the wrong offense to Drake May, he's not a
- 1:54:33Speaker 8: precision passer. This is the wrong defense. When you had
- 1:54:37Speaker 8: Gena Smith being a perennial number two receiver, it looked
- 1:54:41Speaker 8: like a Christian gosults. That's not going to fix that.
- 1:54:46Speaker 8: We are headed guys and I and I'm the game
- 1:54:48Speaker 8: is gonna be thirteen to seventeen because I did not
- 1:54:51Speaker 8: hear not one time in the off season. That's the
- 1:54:54Speaker 8: offense good. This guy's making some throws that are amazingly Wow.
- 1:54:58Speaker 8: Back to to this kid he had to hit back
- 1:54:59Speaker 8: to if you don't hear it, even behind closed doors,
- 1:55:02Speaker 8: it's not going to click and happen. And we talked
- 1:55:04Speaker 8: about this. I'm even pissed that you had Don Dante Thornton,
- 1:55:09Speaker 8: who both I'm a man l ROUDI and Eldrick and
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: we both said we need receivers like that, big, fast,
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: strong guys. Forget about this. You know, guy in the
- 1:55:21Speaker 8: middle Jacon that you can get into a five yard throat.
- 1:55:24Speaker 8: This is not going to work in today's NFL. I'm
- 1:55:26Speaker 8: pissed as that you guys didn't listen to me when
- 1:55:28Speaker 8: I said Bravery was the wrong the wrong coach for
- 1:55:31Speaker 8: this team, Drake May. Out of all the five six
- 1:55:34Speaker 8: quarterback that came out, we got the one guy that
- 1:55:36Speaker 8: cannot turn it up and turn it on. It is
- 1:55:38Speaker 8: going to get worse and not better.
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: Truck all right, thanks Christians, Christian, it's gonna get worse
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: before I thought I got to get that place.
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: Christian.
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: Just I mean, they won four games the last two years.
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: How much worse can I get?
- 1:55:49Speaker 6: If you just say it's definitively, I guess it becomes
- 1:55:52Speaker 6: a fact.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: Well, listen, everyone's entitled to their opinion.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: Absolutely sounds like he's gonna have a lot of fun watching.
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: For you, you know, And I'd rather have people come
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: in here and be definitive than wishy washing.
- 1:56:01Speaker 6: But you can be definitive without being disrespectful. Like again,
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: this is the same conversation I had with him last week.
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: Why do you need to hear someone tell you what
- 1:56:12Speaker 6: happened in training camp to make you feel better. I
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: don't really understand that there were days that Drake may
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: look good in training camp, there were other days that
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: the offense looked bad. It's that that's a fact, But
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: like this whole thing, like not once did you tell
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: me about a thrower he made? There were times in
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: the game on Sunday did he made some throws that
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: looked really good? And then there were other times he
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: couldn't hit the little seven yard sit route to Hunter Henry,
- 1:56:38Speaker 6: you start a drive.
- 1:56:39Speaker 7: All right, one more.
- 1:56:40Speaker 6: He's inconsistent with his accuracy. That's that's what I've seen
- 1:56:43Speaker 6: so far.
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: Honest is in North Carolina?
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: Is that your name is that?
- 1:56:46Speaker 7: Your name is honest?
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:56:48Speaker 7: What's your last name? To goodness?
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: Tell the truth?
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: Is okay? Honest Richardson.
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: That didn't go the way you thought it was going
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: to go.
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: To it?
- 1:57:00Speaker 24: So for y'all is how do you guys feel about
- 1:57:04Speaker 24: Terrence Williams or what's his name the defensive court?
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:57:10Speaker 24: I wasn't a big fan of his play calls. It
- 1:57:13Speaker 24: was a lot of unnecessary blitzes. It was just a
- 1:57:17Speaker 24: lot of blown coverages. Do you think that the defense
- 1:57:19Speaker 24: has completely bought into his system?
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: I don't think it's a question of buying into it.
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: But I I mean, I I was.
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: Before that's how they want to play, though I know,
- 1:57:31Speaker 6: I think that that's just the first time.
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: I think that that's a piece of it. You know,
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: I think you'll do you these are the the licks
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: that you take and then you hopefully learn from him.
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: Like I didn't particularly like we argued about the third
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: and twenty blitz. I bet you the next time that
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: that happens, that situation comes up, he probably won't send
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: the house.
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: Do you feel some parallels? So just watching a first
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: year play caller into Marcus Covington last year where it
- 1:57:54Speaker 4: felt a little like all over the place at times,
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: and it just, you know, didn't really seem like Thank God,
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: experience play callers have a feel for the game and
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: they know the right time to break out the blitzes,
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: and you know, maybe it's an experiencing but I just
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: I got a little bit of vibes to that. I'm like,
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: why that now, you know, are you once you're actually
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: calling the plays? I think it's a little bit different.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: All right, Well, listen, I'm calling the show.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: You're my friend. Even with one guy on the line,
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: I'm calling the show.
- 1:58:18Speaker 7: Yeah, calling the show.
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: We're gonna pick it up tomorrow at noon.
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: We're all going to take it every Wednesday, so.
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: We'll have Mike Vrabel talking. We'll probably have Drake May
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: talking tomorrow after practice. Correct, Diggs will be talking in
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: the locker room before practice, and then we'll have our
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: show catch twenty two tomorrow tomorrow at ten. It's a
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: big day, Big Wednesday. It's turn the Page Day.
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: Exactly what I was just about to say.
- 1:58:47Speaker 7: Turn the Page Day.
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: We're going to talk about beating Miami in Miami tomorrow,
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: Page Day.
- 1:58:53Speaker 7: All right, thanks for listening today. We'll see you tomorrow.
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: Hey, this is Evan.
