  know I didn't make the playoffs but from a team perspective it

  doesn't feel any different to me just because the cars in there's

  still still a lot of. Expectation for us internally to

  go and try to do a good job and try to advance to these rounds.

  So it it's nice to have a have a goal out there still within

  reach and and a carrot to kind of chase after and our team

  definitely has that. You know I still I'm, I'm 60 now

  so I look at you as a champion, a winner already an accomplished

  cup driver. So tonight you're lining up 7th

  and we know how gnarly this track can get.

  this new next Gen. car. You know that they've got this

  schedule, you know, the Bristol night race in the fall in my

  opinion is the coolest race we have.

  because we're here, I really believe this and it is, it is

  bad ass 100% and it is such a special environment.

  You know, I think there's, as you've done this for a few years

  there, there's very few races that you still get overly

  excited for, and this is definitely one of them.

  Do you notice the fans? Do you notice that the pictures

  Absolutely. I, you know, I remember my

  first, My first. Truck race up here, it was on a

  I guess it was on Thursday night like normal and we qualify

  pretty good. I just remember coming.

  I think we're on the front row and we were coming around there

  to take the green flag and you know the sun was kind of set.

  And then I just, I see all the the camera cameras going off and

  I'm like, man, this is so cool because I remember seeing this

  as a kid and like watching this and being a.

  Being a spectator, but to kind of be to be a part of the show

  at a place like this when the energy level is this high, this
• 3:53
  is what NASCAR is all about and it's been a thrill.

  So I look forward to this event. I don't necessarily feel like I

  get nervous, but I'm certainly excited to be a part of it.

  Chase, is it a hard balance for you?

  You've always been a playoff driver for your whole career.

  Now you're not. I know a driver owes something

  to himself, to his fans, to his owner.

  You got to get everything you can get because you're still

  competing. But are you aware of playoff

  drivers? Do you want to make sure you

  don't be that guy that gets in the way at all?

  Yeah, I mean we're definitely aware, but I'm aware because

  we're racing them in the owner's side.

  You know you're you're racing against those guys for for that

  side of things. So yeah, I mean, it was

  definitely a line to balance, but.

  You know when you look at it, if you have pace and and your car

  is fast and you're able to go up there and pass guys and move

  forward. If you have a bad pit stop, like

  you know all those things. I feel like come out on the wash

  where you I feel like you can get in a lot of trouble is if

  you're trying, if you're a little off and you're just
• 4:53
  trying to scrape a little more, you know that to me is where the

  mistakes can can come if you're trying to reach a little too
• 4:59
  far. But the goal is to not have to

  reach. The goal is to just be good

  enough. Outright that you're just in

  position and and have a good shot that way.

  So that's my approach but certainly aware.

  But I feel like we're always aware of that year to year.

  And yeah, it's definitely a bummer and I hate hate we missed

  it on the driver's side. But I feel like we have made a

  little traction over the last few weeks, in particular with

  with pace and kind of getting up in the mix with those guys that

  I feel like we need to be racing against, so.

  That's been a lot of fun for me. It's also been fun just to see

  that progress and to see the hard work that we're putting in

  and see some results. That's always encouraging.

  try new things is great. They just have to be willing to

  bringing the fairgrounds back and and it sounds like they've

  really been trying and and I think for that I'm I'm grateful.

  I hope that they don't. You know, I know they built the

  soccer stadium and they want to make it a parking lot and this

  and that, but. I know that they if they ever

  and what I saw there at the I ran SRX race there a couple

  years ago Dad and I got to run against each other and that

  environment, it reminded me of being here, you know for the

  night race and that was pretty special.

  So I. When I saw that place lit up

  that night it it really showed me what it could be and and it

  kind of confirmed all my thoughts.

  standpoint that they've done a ton and and they've really been

  a huge support and you know we have done a lot of racing

  together a lot of traveling together and they've been there

  each step of the way and kind of watched me grow up and progress

  you know as a as a driver in off the track and and I'm grateful

  for both. So it has been a fun ride and

  I don't take for granted the things I've been able to.

  Experience with them and and you know that that does not always

  happen and I recognize that and I've been just super grateful to

  have experienced some of the moments that we have as a family
