- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to, well, the best columnist in America, Michael Goodwin,
- 0:08Speaker 1: every Sunday and every Wednesday in the New York Post.
- 0:12Speaker 1: You can get all of his columns. They're up on
- 0:14Speaker 1: the New York Post website. Michael Goodwin, How.
- 0:16Speaker 2: You doing, Good morning, Mike.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Thank you. You're right about the media. It's hard to
- 0:22Speaker 1: run at democracy without legitimate media, isn't it. The what
- 0:26Speaker 1: side are they on here?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Well, that's the question, right the uh you know, talking
- 0:31Speaker 2: about the terror attacks, in particular the one at the
- 0:36Speaker 2: synagogue in Michigan where a lot of the big outlets
- 0:40Speaker 2: at TVs. Of course, in New York Times stuck with
- 0:44Speaker 2: this bland thing that the attacker had lost relatives in Lebanon,
- 0:53Speaker 2: but the Israeli media beat them to the pond. Same
- 0:56Speaker 2: Wait a minute, is relatives were members, that's why they
- 1:01Speaker 2: were killed, and that, of course it took. The New
- 1:06Speaker 2: York Times on Saturday was still reporting all the poor
- 1:09Speaker 2: guy he lost relatives. Talking about an official in the
- 1:15Speaker 2: town where this bombing happened, he said, oh, I can't
- 1:21Speaker 2: tell you anymore. He was afraid of retaliation. Now who
- 1:25Speaker 2: would he be afraid of retaliation from? Of course, HEZBLA.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But the New York Times never made the connection, because
- 1:34Speaker 2: why ruin a perfectly good story that makes America look bad?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's out and out deception. His relatives were
- 1:42Speaker 1: Hesbela terrorists. Israel stopped him. The Times they knew all this. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: sec Chair car talking about sanctioning some of these media outists.
- 1:53Speaker 1: He's right, isn't he?
- 1:55Speaker 2: Well, Look, I think I'm not certain of the legal
- 2:00Speaker 2: definitions in these cases. But look, I do think that
- 2:05Speaker 2: the anti American tone, the anti Israeli tone of much
- 2:10Speaker 2: of the American media is on full display in their
- 2:14Speaker 2: coverage of the war. I mean, you do often wonder
- 2:19Speaker 2: whose side are they on?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, whose side are they on? They're just on the
- 2:23Speaker 1: Democrat side. They'll just say anything bad about things when
- 2:26Speaker 1: the Republican isn't Is it that simple?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Well, I think that's the kind of the spear. The
- 2:34Speaker 2: tip of the spear is that they hate Donald Trump,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and so anything that would make him look good then
- 2:42Speaker 2: has to be, you know, defeated in an argument. And
- 2:47Speaker 2: of course, in the case of war, you are effectively
- 2:51Speaker 2: not just going after the president, You're going after the
- 2:56Speaker 2: American military and America itself. That's what we're seeing here.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Look, they don't have to become ra ra rah, but
- 3:06Speaker 2: they have to at least be fair and accurate in
- 3:09Speaker 2: their reporting. But rather they're rushing to judgment, uh, in
- 3:14Speaker 2: ways that suit their agenda, not the facts.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Now, Michael Goodwin, you used to work at the New
- 3:19Speaker 1: York Times, do you?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yes?
- 3:22Speaker 1: It was not like this then.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It was a little No, it's a very different place.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And I, you know, Mike, I still many of the
- 3:29Speaker 2: things that I still go by in my own work
- 3:33Speaker 2: I learned at the New York Times. I mean the
- 3:36Speaker 2: idea that you don't you don't assume what's in someone's head.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And I would like our listeners to this. Gaze at
- 3:45Speaker 2: the front page of the New York Times one day
- 3:48Speaker 2: or any of their stories about Trump and Republicans, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: they are telling you what they're thinking. Their motives are
- 3:55Speaker 2: always the focus of the attack. It's not that they
- 4:00Speaker 2: wanted to do the best, they wanted to do the worst.
- 4:02Speaker 2: They wanted to do this their self enriching or whatever.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It's constantly an attack on motives. When I was at
- 4:10Speaker 2: the New York Times, there was an open rule. You
- 4:13Speaker 2: don't go after someone's motives because you're not a mind reader.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Neither are you a detective. Wow?
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, mayor mom, Donnie trying to olive branch wants
- 4:25Speaker 1: to meet with Jewish leaders. Then they find out he's
- 4:28Speaker 1: only going to be there briefly. It was obviously just
- 4:30Speaker 1: a photo op. What is wrong with this guy? How
- 4:34Speaker 1: hard would it be to actually sit down for an
- 4:35Speaker 1: hour and listen to people?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a you know, I think he's thinking himself
- 4:41Speaker 2: a very deep hole in a lot of ways. Mark.
- 4:45Speaker 2: He seems sort of not to care about the basic
- 4:49Speaker 2: things that a mayor is elected to do. He seems
- 4:52Speaker 2: to be off on his own tension, and there doesn't
- 4:56Speaker 2: seem to be anywhere filter between what he says what
- 5:01Speaker 2: he does, and with a larger reality in the city,
- 5:06Speaker 2: is about full steam ahead on the radical socialist agenda.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And you know, also with a Muslim situation, he's quick
- 5:17Speaker 2: to criticize everybody else, but very slow on that side.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So it does look like he's plain favorites. Yeah, in
- 5:28Speaker 2: a very dangerous and volatile situation.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't think he realizes job number one,
- 5:35Speaker 1: fill the potholes, you know, get the trains move all
- 5:37Speaker 1: that sort of.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Thing, that's right, that's right. Yeah, when you get too
- 5:41Speaker 2: far off the core issues that a mayor is elected
- 5:44Speaker 2: to do, that's when you really fail. You mean, you
- 5:48Speaker 2: come up empty handed and you get entangled in all
- 5:51Speaker 2: these disputes that ultimately are meaningless about the job.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And he's back to this closed Rikers island. I mean,
- 5:59Speaker 1: there's no more perfect spot for a prison than on
- 6:01Speaker 1: an island, and he wants to move them into the boroughs.
- 6:05Speaker 1: This is the foremost crazy idea to Blasio's crazy idea.
- 6:08Speaker 2: What's the same. Yeah, I agree. I do think the
- 6:12Speaker 2: one thing that really will stop that would be the
- 6:16Speaker 2: cost of building those jails and the community opposition. Nobody
- 6:21Speaker 2: wants a jail in their neighborhood, so I think that
- 6:25Speaker 2: will to me run into reality and as I did
- 6:29Speaker 2: with build a basio, and Eric Adams never really embraced
- 6:34Speaker 2: that idea. But I'm not surprised that mom Donnie thinks
- 6:37Speaker 2: this is a swell thing to do.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yeah, So will this get better or worse? Will he
- 6:42Speaker 1: start to will those big special interests, real estate guys,
- 6:46Speaker 1: unions start to dangle things in front of maybe get
- 6:49Speaker 1: him in line? Will it improve it all?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Well? I think the one break on a lot of
- 6:55Speaker 2: his stuff. Mark is going to be the budget. You know,
- 7:00Speaker 2: the downgrade from from you know stable to I think
- 7:05Speaker 2: a negative outlook on the credit. It doesn't mean we're
- 7:09Speaker 2: approaching bankruptcy, but it's the kind of kind of warning
- 7:13Speaker 2: sign that all mayors of all parties has adhered to
- 7:19Speaker 2: since the fiscal crisis of the seventies. That was the
- 7:22Speaker 2: great learning moment about the dangers of losing access to
- 7:27Speaker 2: the credit markets and being viewed as the spend forest. Well,
- 7:32Speaker 2: that is the sort of thing that he does not
- 7:35Speaker 2: pay attention to. It. It could undermine everything he wants
- 7:39Speaker 2: to do, in part because all of his ideas are
- 7:43Speaker 2: big ticket items, very expensive. So and I think he
- 7:47Speaker 2: gets any of his taxes, he's going to find he
- 7:51Speaker 2: probably collects the less money rather the more, because you're
- 7:55Speaker 2: going to drive people out of the city.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, Michael Goodwin, great stuffy. Go read his column. You
- 8:01Speaker 1: can read his column every Sunday and every Wednesday in
- 8:03Speaker 1: the New York Post. But all the columns are up
- 8:06Speaker 1: on the website. You can go New York Post's website
- 8:08Speaker 1: and read him. Michael Goodwin, thanks for being with us.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Oh, it's your pleasure, Thank you, Mark.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Take care, Hey coming up, Don't forget at Noon Bucks,
- 8:16Speaker 1: Sexton Clay Travis, excellent show at twelve noon and Get
- 8:20Speaker 1: Bucks new book. It just came out. It's on Amazon.

- 8:27Speaker 1: in America. Jesse Kelly at six and you got Jimmy
- 8:30Speaker 1: Faylor with him. Oh, it's a really funny show every
- 8:33Speaker 1: night at nine. Here on seven to ten w
