- Amy: Rock, KATYA: Welcome to Rock the Life podcast for fans, five fans. I'm Katya. Amy: I'm Amy. KATYA: And Amy today is okay, they're all fun, but truly it is another fun one that we have. We have Dan on our show who has a wonderful YouTube channel called Off the Charts. And we also call him what's your other name for him, Amy? Amy: Right. Mm-hmm. I I I titled our our episode in the studio Dan the vinyl man. cause it's just I mean, that's who he is. Yeah. KATYA: He has a great great record connection too. So we get to interview another podcaster to and talk to him about music because we love a lot of the same music and he has fantastic story to tell. Amy: Mm-hmm. Right, we had so much fun. But the really cool thing about the release of this episode today is that on Monday, two days ago, Dan released his episode with us. So we'll have that all linked down in the bio. And if you happen to leave a comment about one of the things that I said, be gentle. That's all I gotta say. Be gentle. You'll know if you watch. Just KATYA: You'll let watch episode and be gentle. Amy: Yeah, I mean KATYA: So with that, like and subscribe. And here's Dan. Amy: Here's Dan yeah. Don't forget to do that. And Dan. KATYA: Hello Dan. Welcome to Rock the Life. How are you doing? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I'm doing very good today. Very busy but very good. All good. And you girls. KATYA: Well, this is fun. Last Amy: Yeah. KATYA: g I am doing great. last time we were doing this, you were talking to us. Now it's our turn to quiz you. Amy: Yay! KATYA: No, no quizzes, no quizzes. It's just all good. So yeah, doing great. How are you doing, Amy? Amy: I, you know what? It's the perfect temperature here. It's like hot everywhere and we're at 70 degrees. So I'm just a happy little camper over here. Not too hot, not too cold. All I really need is a light jacket. KATYA: It's like April twenty fifth. I'm just and I am coming off a three four day festival concert weekend in North Adams, Massachusetts. I flew there for like three, four days. It was four days. It was pretty amazing. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Wow. What what concerts? KATYA: So yeah. It was the band Wilco. They host their own festival every other year. So it was all sorts of bands too. I didn't know or I learned about. And it's in an art museum area. So there's like art projects going on. And there's a contemporary art museum and lots of music, lots of guitars, lots of yeah, it was it was pretty cool. First time I've been there. It's Folky, folky rock type thing. Okay, so Dan we actually we like a lot of the same music, but I want to know from you, where did your love of rock and hair metal first begin? Amy: I like that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: There you go. Okay, I I'll I'll actually blame or thank my neighbor. he used to babysit me as a kid, and whatever he had as doubles, he would give me. like I I had the first four Kiss solo albums at age eight. and so I had I and yeah, KISS. Like I had a lot of Kiss Kissettes, Kiss Rock and Roll Over, Kiss Alive 2, and the first one. Amy: Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: He gave me all of those. That was all I had to my name. And I listened to that. Sorry, go ahead. KATYA: In what format? In what format did you get it? Were they tapes, final? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: The first the the four solo albums were actually vinyl, but the other three were cassettes. I also when he was going on vacation, like I said, he babysat me. And when but I was old enough to go do a paper route. I don't know if you girls had that in and how he paid me was he actually bought me the Peter Chris Out of Control. You know, when he left KISS, he bought me that. So now then I had Amy: one. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Two bands to my name. So that was a big, big part. And the f the first album that I got as a kid was I bugged my mom all day. Like it was our our little town had a sidewalk sale. And my neighbor who babysat me said, you should try to get this album. So I all day I bugged my mom. I said, Mom, can I get this? Can I get this? Can I get this? Which was Iron Maiden, The number of the beast. And I I that's basically all I had until I moved here to Ottawa, like this was another town. And that's when I discovered, you know, those much music, or for you girls, MTV. And I was like, wow. And for us, it was the power hour. We didn't I didn't have that where I lived up north, and which the power hour would be the equivalent to your head MTV's headbanger's ball. KATYA: Yes. Had bangers Amy: Mm-hmm. KATYA: volley, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Cause I was just all kiss. It like like don't bug me. And then I discovered Bon Jovi Slippery When Wit, David Lee Roth, the just the Jiggolo one there, that one. Twisted Sisters, Stay Hungry, Autograph, Sign and Please, stuff like that. That's where I it was literally when I moved here in eighty four that I discovered a Amy: eat them and smile. Yeah, yeah, yeah. KATYA: Yeah, части check. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Wow moment because where I used to live, I was alone in my co my corner because nobody liked the hard rock. There was no there was no hair metal term back then. But I knew who Yeah. But yeah, thank you to my my neighbor who babysat me. He's the one that of and of course I used to go when I was at his house, I used to go all through all his vinyls just I knew all the names by heart. I just didn't know how they sounded like. But I remember, you know, Van Halen. Amy: Mm. KATYA: No, maybe not, right. Says you yeah, you and your neighbor. Just the album covers. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: women and children first. Exactly, exactly. So that's how I got into that style of mus and of course Metal Edge magazine, which we called here the Bible. Amy: Hmm. KATYA: Yes, yes. Amy: I wanted to be Jerry Miller so bad. So bad. Uh huh. Yeah. Yeah. KATYA: Gosh, I wish DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: she had the best job, KATYA: So now Dan in any of your collections, do you have any of your old metal edge magazines? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I do not, but my friend Steph, who's been on my channel many times, he's actually collecting them right now. So he's buying like he's got them all in a like a laminate and all that. Like he's he's seriously collecting them. I wish I did, because man, I knew those by heart. Well that was that's basically pre-internet how you got to know your splash pages. KATYA: Yeah. That's your information. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But yeah, I wish I I still kept those 'cause those like they were the bet that was the best magazine ever, if you ask me. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: I wrote. I know to think that I I was wondering if I still have some of those. I'll have to look to see. Amy: I turned mine into wallpaper, man. I mutilated my issues of middle-edge, because they were all all over my wall. KATYA: That's true. I hung up a lot. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well my my friend did that. My my friend did that. He we he was one of my first drummers for my band. And all our jam space was just Motley Crew, like all those rat and all that there, like from those Metal Edge magazine. Or there was also Hit Parador, Circus. But Metal Edge was Metal Edge was here and Hit Parador was kinda it was good, but not as good as Metal Edge. Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. KATYA: Not as good as okay, so Dan, I didn't realize you were in a band. Tell us about that. Are you still in a band? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yes. Okay. technically, yes. And I'll I'll I'll get to that. So in high school, so this is the error you're not supposed to do when you're in a band. So in high sch I I took piano as a kid, so I know my theory and all that. But I wanted to play jump by Van Halen. I did not want to play no Beethoven and yeah, Chopin or Beethoven and all that. That wasn't me. KATYA: Okay, okay, good, good. Cup on. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And of course, it was always like my mom, like, do your scales and all that. And how teachers taught you how to you know literature for music was not the best way. They they don't tell they need to tell you why you are learning to do something anyway. So I had my piano, so in late high school, we all decided to hey, let's form a band. So it's like you get a guitar. Amy: Mm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: You get a bass, you get a drum. I was the one with the least worst voice, so I was the lead singer. So we and I sang high. Like I can still probably sing high there. But yeah, that was our first it was a disaster. But it was fun. You know, we were in a rock band. And then I met that one was it was like fun, but we we weren't very good. We were not very good. Then the guy I told you with the the posters. Then we we became a trio with him as a new drummer and my friend, which was the guitarist back in high school. Anyway, we were a good trio when we were doing covers and then we we started writing our own songs. and we actually went to a studio to record demos. That band, when we all went to university, kinda dissolved. And it's not until so I only I by the way, I did play bass. I learned to play bass probably when I was Amy: Hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: 20 because we were always having problems losing bass players. Like, okay, okay, where we're waiting for jam, and then where's our bass player? he's not showing up today. So I was sick and tired of that. I'm like, that's it. I'm buying a bass and I'm gonna learn the bass and I'll sing at the same time. That's how that started. And I still play the bass. I I'm in a band. Actually, wait, yeah, I'll show you. I wasn't planning on promoting it, but yeah, see, we have our own CDs. KATYA: Yeah, let's Amy: Yeah KATYA: I wanna know. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Dead culture society. So if you follow my channel, you'll notice that every episode starts off with a little song, a snippet of a song. That's my band. So I don't get tagged with copyright. KATYA: I do? Okay. Amy: Excellent. Right? Yeah. KATYA: Yes. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So at one time I was in two bands. One was for fun, and that one was the serious one. And since COVID, it's not that we like this came out what year? Two thousand and twenty-two. So yeah, COVID was what, twenty twenty? I forget the year. And we still hadn't played a gig to sell this. Like that's why I got so many copies. Cause usually we sell these at gigs. And KATYA: Twenty twenty, yep, twenty twenty one, yep. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: We're we're still together technically, but we haven't played together in like go a good four years there, so KATYA: Okay, it's time. It's time. We're getting yeah, this is gonna be that's awesome. Well, okay, so then when did you start the podcast? Amy: Right? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah, so Yeah. Okay, so I've always wanted to do this. I would say probably five I'm on my fifth year now. And a little bit after COVID, my ex and I we broke up and I was like, I need to do something like to keep me occupied and get my mind off of that. So sh I've always wanted to do this podcast, like I've always followed the contrarians with with Martin Popoff or Sea of Tranquility. I don't know if you know those, Amy: So exciting. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: They're more on the east coast. And I said, I want to do that. I've got a lot a big collection of music here, so I want to do that. And January 6th, 2022, I believe, was my first episode. So then I've met a whole bunch of like like you girls or like I keep meeting new people and I I find it's amazing to it's a great community. Yes. Amy: Yeah. Mm-hmm. KATYA: It is. So now, okay, you have well over four hundred and fifty episodes. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Four hundred and six I actually taped today four hundred and sixty two. Yeah. And I had to cut I had to cut down too. Amy: Wow. KATYA: And okay, so sin and you have why why? Amy: Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I was doing three episodes a week and I was like, Yeah, I I I I couldn't do it. And so I'm I'm only doing Mondays and Friday sorry, Mondays and Fridays now. I used to have a little Wednesday one there. Not many people were commenting or watching it. So I'm like, you know what? I just need to to do that there. But yeah, two episodes a week. Pl plus a live stream every Saturday of just listening to music, me being a DJ and showing off my collection, I guess. KATYA: I need to go look at that. So what have so I know since December of last year you've been doing like the top ten hairmetal opening tracks. What other themes have you been doing on your podcast? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I do so what I like to do is it's called off the charts is my the name of my channel and it's a play on my last name which is Chartran. So that's where that charts comes from. And I've always wanted to I I've always cheered for the little guy, you know, the people that are not not on the charts. no disrespect to Def Leopard or Bon Jovi or Metallica. I've always like Amy: Mm-hmm. KATYA: there you go. Okay, yes. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: They've got enough publicity, right? So I I'd like to, you know, remind people that certain bands still existed or maybe forgotten. So I do a lot of revisiting forgotten bands. I started off like basically anybody doing album rankings, but I only do album rankings if I have the whole collection of the band. I do concert reviews. KATYA: They get publicity. Yeah, they're just walking publicity. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I I'm starting to dabble into interviews. I probably got like 10, like not not much there, but more on the way. But it's mostly like just hair metal, but like your your forgotten ones or your like like when we talked about on my channel, you know, we someone mentioned vein. Like that's not a household name. But my Amy: Okay. KATYA: Yeah, you're right, you're right. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But with the general public. See, I'm I and I'm and I'm not a general public kind of guy. I'm like you girls where I love something and I'm I'm a fan for life. Not like I don't go with what's in, you know. So yeah, that's what I do. Amy: Mm-hmm. KATYA: Yes. so what has been what has been your most watched episode? Amy: I love it. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Probably okay, so which is a surprise. Do you girls know of a band? It's a fairly new band. it's a bunch of nuns that are Dogma. So I wrote I made an episode called Who is Dogma? Because at the time people were wondering what they who they were. That one I think is my most watched episode at 5,000 views. KATYA: The dogma episode. Is dog. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I know I did an Alice Cooper ranking that's as high up there. And see, this one probably won't be as popular for you girls, but we have a band here. It's like I don't know if you girls know what math rock is. It's very technical. Anyway, there's a new band out there. It's called Angine de Poitrin, which is French for chest angina or I guess chest pain. And they're huge, but it's it's not probably not up your cup of tea there, but yeah. Amy: Mmm. Mm-mm. KATYA: No. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Those probably are the three most popular ones. And I d and and they probably my twenty one of one of the year in reviews that I did there for a hair metal there. that got but yeah, the dogma episode, I was like, what is up with this one here? Like that is easy. KATYA: Okay. Amy: You KATYA: I think everyone else is asking the same question. Who is Dogma? Now, have you seen have you seen Dogma play live? Okay. That looks wild. It looks wild. That's why I'm just like, whoa. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: No and See, I'm on the fence with them now. I I'm that was actually my album of the year until I found out that they are a gimmick, they are a troupe, they're not a band, so they don't do their own writing. They only some mastermind in the background is the one doing the the writing, the recording. So take all that whatever that is, and then they're they're going on tour to play that music. KATYA: Very production type okay, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: 'Cause now they Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: got they a big half of the band got fired like last year. Now there's another side pro it's it's a big mess. So Amy: Gotcha. Do you know who, Katya? Oh, sorry. Go ahead. No, you're still talking about Dogma. Keep going. Repeat that. KATYA: What country is dogma from go ahead. Go ahead. No, it's just a DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: South America I think it's all a I think it's like South America somewhere. Some people are some members are from Spain, but I believe it's South America. KATYA: Okay. Okay. Interesting. Okay. Okay, Aim, over to you. Amy: Katya, do you know who I really feel like Dan and maybe there's been something there and I missed it? Dan and Jeremy from Hair Metal Rules need to chat, I feel like. Hair Metal Rules. Dan, we had a gentleman on our show a couple of times actually by the name of Jeremy. He's in South Carolina. KATYA: Hair metal rules. Amy: And he has another channel that he was. don't know if he's still doing it anymore. You guys would be like this, I feel like, because he he really. KATYA: Besties. Yeah. We found we found you a bestie, Dan. Or a new bestie. Amy: I know we did, DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: There you go. Amy: but he's really a lot about the under promoted bands as well. And he is just all over that. And it was kind of fun talking to him a little bit about that. I'll have to try to connect you guys because I really feel like Dan and Jeremy could literally put out a show that would like you'd have to make it like four parts because. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Okay. KATYA: That would be agree. No, I agree. That is So okay, so DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: 'Cause I I I do like every Saturday I put on a little short on my YouTube. It's always forgotten obscu obscure bands and I put a one minute clip of a vinyl that I have. Like I've got over eighteen hundred albums there to to promote there, so Amy: Yeah. Wow. KATYA: Okay. Tell tell me about your record collection and I see you're it's not too busy behind you, but how do you how do you have space for okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So that's not my record collection, by the way. It's upstairs. I'll actually send you a picture, Amy. through it's so I my god, there's a one rack. There's one, one, two, no, sorry, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. I don't know if you're familiar with IKEA Calix. so set imagine seven of those. I mean, it's it's compared to some people, it's not a lot. KATYA: I'd love to see it. Amy: Okay. KATYA: yeah. yeah, I have the I have some of those. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But there's a lot of goodies on there and I I have a lot of they call grails, I guess, or very expensive one. Like actually I just won one. shotgun Masaya. I don't know if you're familiar with that band. Second coming on vinyl, which is like you can't get it for cheaper than like four hundred bucks right now. So Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Yeah. Amy: Yeah? KATYA: I've heard of that, yes. Amy: Wow. Wow. Alright. Yeah, you and Jeremy. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So yeah. KATYA: Yeah, we're gonna okay. Now, okay, going back to your podcast, I wanna ask, is there one of your episodes that you feel deserves more attention that people may have missed? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: All right. Amy: good question. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I should just go with what I what was at least well anybody that knows me right now knows I'm trying to promote a Swedish band called Thunder Mother. And I they they're the ones who actually gave me my first interview ever. I've had them on two or three other times. And my goal, like I know they came Here in Canada and probably in your area also during the Scorpions Rock Believer tour. The you know the album that's read there with some woman on the anyway. The last tour the Scorpions did in the US and Canada. They actually opened that, but I'm trying to get them to come here to Canada for at least I don't know, maybe a little headliner tour or whatever, or at least just get the their their popularity. Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So that's one I mean it's it's got decent views. but I wish it would be a little bit, you know, higher, I guess. If that if that answers your question or yeah. KATYA: Okay. Amy: All right, Thunder Mother. KATYA: No, it really does. Yeah, that that's perfect. And if that was an interview with the band too, that's that's great too. So we have to get yeah, get to know DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah. And I'll Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: always like I I told them I said thank you first of all for doing this first interview. I'll promote you girls. Like some people think I'm their manager right now in Canada because I've been talking about them so much there so Amy: Yeah. That's excellent. KATYA: Well maybe that's another project you can take on. Amy: Right? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Mm yeah. KATYA: Okay, so Dan, Amy: I can't, I'm gonna look them up. I've heard the name, but I haven't listened, okay. KATYA: we I know, I'm gonna look it up too. We're DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: They sound they're they'll they're apparently they're like a female A C D C or are you familiar with airborne? From Australia. Amy: Say that again. KATYA: I am not airborne. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: From Australia that they're basically a clone of A C D C. But the that that's basically how they sound, but a little bit more fresh, not as stale as when A C D C became like in their later years there. So and again it's a s it's a smaller band that I'm trying to get bigger. KATYA: I will look. Yeah. Okay, it's Amy: Okay. KATYA: Okay, now speaking of bands that you have met or may have met over the years, we like to talk about experiences that we've had as a as a fan and then we meet someone that we love. Who was that for you? I know there's a few. Yes. Yes, please. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, are we talking about the two the two pictures I sent you girls there? Okay. Amy: you DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So I am le I think you girls are like me there. I love to go to concerts, but at the end try to go at behind the stage or whatnot, or not behind the stage, but backstage or outside where the buses are and hang around there. I've never been a big autograph hound person, but I've always, always loved. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: having a picture taken with certain bands. So I was in so one of the two stories that I have here is I was in Montreal for the I think it was the Formula One racing. And we were reading the paper having a beer outside. I'm looking on the paper inside, my God, Dio is coming to town in about a month or so. I was like, and it's a little bar because I know he was he was touring with Deep Purple. Amy: Yeah. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: That that summer, but he was doing a one-off show in Montreal, which is two hours away from here from Ottawa. My friends weren't really into Dio at the time, but I've changed them, don't worry. But so I go there by myself. I didn't have a car at the time, so I remember taking the bus all the way to Montreal, getting off the bus. and and by the way, this is 2004. Amy: Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Four ish okay. And we all know about the VIPs right now. What happens, you know, the prices are ridiculous, right? So I I was looking online and I remember there was a little blog about Ronnie James Dio saying, if you wanna do a meet and greet, just contact our fan club. I was like, so all right, what do I got to lose, right? So I emailed the fan club, they literally emailed me back like probably within the half hour. Amy: Mm-hmm. KATYA: great. Great. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Saying, okay, well, we got two tickets for you free. Okay, free. Ronnie James deal, free. There'll be two VIP passes waiting for you at the box office. I'm like, wow, okay, cool. But I'm like, you know, I'm skeptical, you know. So I get to the venue and I go, by the way, my name's Dan. I just had to give my proof of ID, a driver's license, or whatnot. Yeah, here's your two VIP passes. I'm like, wow. So this was for the Amy: Mm-hmm. Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Killing the Dragon tour. Okay, 2000 and I forget. Yeah. Anyway, the story gets better. And we I've always loved Dio. And when you know that Black Sat he was a singer for Black Sabbath, and he refused to do that last show with Sabbath when they were supposed to open for Aussie. A lot of people were giving Dio a hard time saying he's got a big ego and does not does not play well with others. So anyway, that was kind of in the back of my mind. So we went after the show, great concert. And we went, we were told to go back up upstairs. And I met a girl there because there's other pictures with her and Dio. So I gave her one of my because I was alone. Nobody, none of my friends wanted to go. So we anyway, they brought us where the the whole band came out. Simon Wright, is that the guy from ACDC? sign Phillips, I think his name is Doug Aldrich. KATYA: Okay. so okay. Amy: Mm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Was his guitarist Amy: Mm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: at the time. So from White Snake, Dead Dead Daisies, Jimmy Bain was there, and Ronnie James Dio. In hindsight, I was so nervous. I I didn't do anything with Jimmy Bane, Doug and Simon from but I just was so in awe and that guy is as he's a giant voice, but he is like like probably came up to me like at this. But anyway, the nicest guy. KATYA: Yeah. Amy: Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Guy, you can imagine. Like he signed my CD of killing the dragon and was super nice with me. I talked with him a little bit, but what actually got me was there was that other guy that got the VIP pass. He goes, Look, Ronnie, I I didn't bring anything to sign. I just wanted to meet you. And Ronnie just goes, Come here, and gives the guy a huge hug. And I was like, Wow, that was cool. So then I go back home and it was great night, blah blah blah. Go back home, I email my friends. Guess what? I met Ronnie James Dio. I got a picture. And it was those disposable cameras. That's where the that's what the picture is grainy. So I went and got them developed like right away. Like I'm like, I'm not waiting a week. I did the one hour extra money. So anyway, I got them developed. My friend, when I emailed my friends, it's like, how the hell did you manage that? So I explained to them how it went. Amy: Yep. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Fast forward maybe about a year a year later, and on the website again for Dio, he was doing he was releasing this right here evil and divine. Okay. And you were able to print out a waiver because he wanted there's a menu in that DVD which says Dio and Friends. So you were able to send in a picture of you and Ronnie James Dio. KATYA: Okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: to his company, I had to pay a dollar. So I had literally had to go to the bank and do because I'm Canadian. I had to send a one dollar American, so I had to go get that. I had to sign a waiver saying I give permission. my sorry, my parents give permission. And I go to my boss, I'm like, well I'm 30 years old. You I need to go no, I think this is just for kids there. So anyway, my picture is now inscribed forever in this DVD. So if there is you look at the menu if you have this and you look in the menu, you'll see that picture that I sent Amy. that this is forever in a D V D and a whole bunch of other people also did the same thing. And yeah, so that's one of my more prouder, I guess, rock star. Well, it 'cause it led to something. KATYA: That is so awesome. Amy: That's so cool. Mm-hmm. That is... KATYA: But like and but like what an incredible like if you're a fan, write us, let us know and we'll treat you well. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And free. Amy: Wow. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And free. I couldn't believe the free part. 'Cause that was VIPs weren't a big thing as much back then. So Amy: Yeah. KATYA: No, not twenty years ago they weren't, but that is so cool. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And I got I got VIPs a second time because they Dio was opening up for Iron Maiden, and I had my VIPs now. I had to choose between my friends, so anyway, I chose my sister for that one. But the thing is, not knowing how VIPs worked, I went we went after Iron Maiden. Had I wanted to meet Dio a second time, I should have gone after Dio set in between Dio and Iron Maiden. If that makes any sense there, so I didn't meet him that time, but I still had. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Yeah, it does. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And he gave me again backstage passes for free twice now. And that's unheard of. Amy: Wow. Wow. KATYA: my goodness. Amy: Yeah. Yeah. Especially at that time point. KATYA: What year was that for the second time? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Two thousand and four the first time and probably two thousand and five or six the second time around that time. It was Bruce Dickinson was back into Iron Maiden, I know that. Amy: Yeah. Yeah. KATYA: How cool is that? Amy: Wow. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, like I there's the other story too. Well, I'll I'll wait until you if you want to talk about the other story, that's even cooler slash funnier. Okay. So again, I go to c so we're gonna talk about Ozzy Osbourne now. And we went to see Black Sabbath the End tour. Not like this was maybe ten. We could see my beard is black, so that's it was a a while back there. KATYA: Yeah, tell me about that too. I wanna hear I'm all now I'm all Amy: You KATYA: Before the before the grey beard, yes, okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Exactly. And it was for the Black Sabbath the End tour. And we we only had tickets for the show. So my friend and I, and we we call them ourselves concert whores because we go to concerts like all the time. Okay. Not as much these days. What's that? It was here in Ottawa. So they it was the arena where the senators, there you go, that team right there, they where they play. And KATYA: Okay, and where was this concert? Where was it at where was the concert? Okay. Big venue. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: We have only had tickets. Now we have a radio station here called I think at the time was Shea 106. And they were actually doing a draw for VIP passes to be won. And guess who won them? My buddy. So, but but this is VIP as you know them today, where you're paying $1,000 to go. But we got this for free. So we're actually gonna go see Black Sabbath, but the ticket Amy: Wow. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: was only the VIP it was only a backstage pass just for the picture. And I was like, okay, still it's it's cool. So we get there with our little no, it wasn't even a laminate, it was just a piece of paper saying, you know, it's it's for your the yeah the winner. So we get there and all these other people they paid you know the one thousand dollars for the whole VIP package which is includes a tote bag with goodies Amy: Mm. KATYA: Right, great. Winner winner. Amy: Right. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: The laminate that gets you backstage where there's free booze and food. And we're like, well, that would be cool to get, right? Like all we got was not that I'm complaining, but all we got was the picture. Yeah. So, but for them it was picture plus tote bag plus food plus a tour in the back. So we're watching these people and they're all getting excited about these tote bags and their whatever they just got. So I'm like, that would be cool. KATYA: But right. The whole package is cool. Yeah. Amy: Right. KATYA: Plus too. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And I wasn't asking for you know the free booze. I just wanted a laminate just for to remember, you know, as a souvenir. Because all we got was a piece of paper that was folded in eight or whatever. So I go to the girl and I go, look, says, I don't care about the free food or booze. I would just love could you have a a a backstage pass that we can just have? Because I just wanted one for a souvenir. I'm sorry, we can't do that and blah, blah, blah. KATYA: Yeah. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: anyway, I tried for like five minutes, couldn't get anything from her. And I go and tell my friend, he's like, Well, good one, Dan. Let me try. Well, guess what? I don't know what he said, but he comes back with two laminates. So we're both getting. So I'm like, my god, we actually got laminates. So now we can actually go backstage with all the people that went and saw get pictures with Aussie and all that. So we show them our thing to get Aussie. KATYA: The re pr the real DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So first thing is we are all in line to stand I we can see Ozzy from farther away. And he's basically how you would imagine him bug-eyed and again, rest in peace, Ozzy. I'm not trying to make fun of anybody here, but yeah. KATYA: No, but we've we've seen the T V sho like we've all seen it, right? he's made no secret of what he's like. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But but he's bug-eyed and doesn't know where he is, or like he's like basically every picture except mine, he's like this for everybody. Like he's got bug eyes and just this this this look on his face. So when my turn came to get his picture, so I got yeah, just before the show, we act I actually went and bought this album 13. So that's the the signature right here. That's what he signed to Amy: Mm-hmm. cool. KATYA: Beautiful. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So I got that. We literally went to the store beforehand to get something to sign because I didn't have anything. Anyway, when it was my turn, for some reason, someone brought a little rubber chicken. the photographer in front, and she started wiggling, like playing around with it, which made Ozzie laugh. So I kid you not when I say that my picture is the only one where Ozzie Osborne is laughing, because everybody else, my friend, has the exact same picture with me. Bug-eyed and just surprised. He's actually laughing at the person in front of me. you know, playing with that. Exact a rubber chicken. So we got our our things signed. And then after that, literally, that's what should have been the end of our tour because all we had was that piece of paper. But no, we just said, might as well go with these other people where they're going afterwards. Amy: cooking the chicken. KATYA: The rubber chicken, the rubber chicken does it every time. Yeah. Go with the flow, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So there was free booze and free food. And let me tell you, for I don't want to say we stole, but no, we took advantage of that free booze. We were drunk during like because it was wine and beer and and hors d'oeuvres, I you called, or can up, I don't know. But but fancy ones. And we were just eating that and we were like KATYA: Yeah, yeah. Appetizers are drives. Yeah, absolutely. Amy: Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Okay, Steph, we need to like that was my buddy's name there. Like Steph, we need to calm down because we're gonna be like we won't be able to. So anyway, we took advantage of that that booze right there. And then of course the radio station wanted to know how our our experience was the next day. So my friend got interviewed the next day for again by that radio station, and I was actually so This is where I was comparing prices of VIP. So I'm like, for KISS, if you wanted to meet KISS, was $2,500. Okay, but you get to meet not that I'm validating the the money, but you get four people. You get four people to take a picture with. You also had a 30-minute acoustic set with KISS, and you can request songs. All right. With Black Sabbath, it was just Aussie, which was a thousand dollars. Amy: No, KATYA: No, but this is all okay. Okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And to research online, I think I remembered like a few months before I I would I looked to see how much Winger because that's one of my favorite bands would charge for a a VIP 75 bucks. So that's how different the prices are. So my friend went on the radio and he goes, Yeah, well and they were comparing prices on the radio and my and a I I felt insulted because the guy goes, my god, 2400 bucks for a kiss. $1,000 for ki Aussie alone. And what the hell is a winger? I was like, are you kidding me? I'm so mad there. Amy: no! KATYA: Radio station is yeah, okay. Amy: Seriously. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well it was again, it was in two thousand thirteen. Winger wasn't really a household name. Amy: I was gonna ask. KATYA: Okay, fair enough. Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. You're right. You're right. That was kind of after some of the big time. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I was still insulted though. KATYA: A but Amy: I have a quick question. Winger fan, what's your favorite Winger album? I have mine. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Depends on the day of the week, you asked me this, because that's in my top five bands ever. Pull is probably one that I love the most. I'm a big sucker for four also. The first one I ever bought was the self-titled one. But seven? my god, is that ever good? The late the latest one? It's that's I actually did a few reaction videos and I had to wait for my buddy that lives in New Zealand to do a reaction with me. And I had to sit in at my house Amy: Same. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: For like nine hours knowing the video was out. I I I can't answer that question that much because I love them all. Like when I say Winger is my favorite hair metal band, the it's it's true. I love all seven I have all their like have the Bill and Ted with Battle Stations, I even have the Karate Kit Part Three. Amy: and not watch it. Yeah. Yeah. KATYA: That's great. Amy: Yeah, no. KATYA: Were they the opening wait for Bill and Ted was Winger the opening track? Okay. Slaughter's opening. That was it. Slaughter's opening. Okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: No, it was a second one. Slaughter is the opening. We talked about that on Amy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got to see Winger recently. I got to see Winger recently. They're phenomenal. Phenomenal. They were phenomenal. I did, DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And then after that was Kiss. What's that? really? I I've seen him twice. KATYA: Did you ever do the Winger VIP? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I didn't have to. Cause we actually I got to meet Kip Winger one time. This is back in 2000. Again, I keep using the same date here. I think we talked about the when I went to see Faster Pussycat, Winger, Cinderella, and Poison. And I believe after Faster, no, after Winger's set, it was Cinderella getting on stage. My sister's like, Wait a minute, that's Kip Winger walking right there. I'm like Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Me and my sister went, yoink, got pictures taken. My friend Steph, who I mentioned him earlier, is like, where the hell were you guys? we went to get our picture taken with Kip Winger. So what? Yoink, let's go back again. And so we all got our but that's as interesting as that story goes there. KATYA: that still okay, so if you were to as a as a fellow fan, if you were to design a VIP experience to see a band, what would it be for you? Like what would it include? Amy: That's excellent. would it be. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So that's funny you asked that because I'm actually imagining that with my my my good friends, the Thunder Mother, how I would react with See, I would love like a the the the picture only is to me that's a a ripoff. Kiss are KATYA: Yeah. But it's really precious. Like the the the the picture is precious, but you're right. It has to be more than that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But it it takes your it it's okay, that one thousand dollars, the picture with Ozzy is what ten seconds if I'm generous? So I'd love like a supper or or not maybe not a supper, but a you know, a chatting with I'd love to have a talk, you know, like you can't really do anything with ten seconds. And it's not just VIPs, it's also like if you go to Comic Con, it's like, okay, you want to take a picture with you know KATYA: That's two seconds. That's two seconds. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. You're right. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Harrison Ford, click next. Click next. It's always like that. So I'd love to have make it affordable. My well, see, I'm on the fence with the affordable too. If it was too affordable, everybody would be doing it right. And you'd be, you'd be, you'd have the same problem. Not that I'm validating the $2,500 price, but if you make them all $30, well, then suddenly you all have 30,000 people that want that experience. Amy: It's terrible. KATYA: Make it affordable, I agree. Amy: It's not exclusive. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: You're back to square one with a little ten second photo, right? So I don't know, may I not say it like may maybe make them you know, like Taylor Swift does there, you know, X number of when you buy your ticket, buy a VIP pass, and then there's only let's say ten. And but it has there has to be there has to have more, I find, to it there. Like D the D O one there was Amy: Mm-hmm. Yeah. KATYA: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: free and we got to talk to him and like I couldn't believe what I was hearing the conversations. I've done it with KISS also. then a VAP but that was like a whole day's worth like back in the convention era there. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: I love the day's worth too. That's kind of I love the idea of a sound check, like listening to the sound check. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah. Amy: Mm-hmm. Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But again, it's still twenty five hundred bucks and the picture is it's still ten seconds because you you gotta KATYA: No, I can't yeah, that's and I do I love the idea that like you target the fans too, right? Like if you're a member of the fan club, that's how you get part of this. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Mm-hmm. Amy: Yeah, I, we had one of my favorite backstage experiences. We've had a couple of them. But the firehouse one now we've met firehouse a few times. We were also backstage for blood, sweat and beers, which was phenomenal. But it was set very much the same way. You had your pass, you went backstage and everybody just mingled and they did. They had drinks, they had some food. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Exactly. Mm-hmm. Amy: But everybody was kind of set out to the band was there and you could talk, you could get pictures, you had time. You know, during during some of ours we had we were having a conversation, fans came up and hold on one second, turn around, get the picture, nice to meet you kind of a thing and then back to kind of our conversation. That to me... DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Mm-hmm. Amy: is like the ultimate backstage experience. That's what backstage was and I feel like that's what it should be again because we paid for Firehouse, we paid for Meet and Greet the last time we saw Firehouse and it was, it was up, the band came up, they lined up against a wall and then you or your group just went up to the wall and walked down the line and it was awkward. It was so awkward. It was not natural at all. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Mingle, yeah. It's almost like a chain gang, you know, like KATYA: Huh. Yeah. Amy: It was, I mean. KATYA: I guess I guess they they have to figure out like how everyone can get a picture at the same time, right? And there's a balance of it too. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Okay, but for Firehouse, okay, so that's funny you mentioned them is I went to see Firehouse, Quiet Riot, Cinderella, and Rat in Toronto. And at fire after Firehouse's show, they but we had so great it was general admission, but you get you know how you have to move up and then you don't want to move. Well then Firehouse says, Well, if you gotta if you want to come and meet us and for pictures on the side, again free. Amy: Yeah. Yep. Yep. KATYA: Real. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I'm like, we all look at each other, I'm like, okay, well, do we go or do we lose our spot now? Because we had such a great view, and we decided to stay. And in hindsight, I should have went. but there's a bar here in Ottawa that does what you like there, Amy, is after the show, there and we they're basically now nostalgia bands, right? So they they I got pictures with you got your girls mentioned Steve Brown last week. KATYA: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, have a picture with Steve Brown and PJ Farley because after the show they said, you know, just come and chat. And I got one with Chips Enough. again, Lee Aaron, like I told you last time. the guys from Autograph. All these guys are not as popular anymore. And to me, the best time to do this is when these bands become nostalgia bands. And and they all KATYA: And then DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Most of them like stay after a show and then just talk and mingle and take pictures and they love that. Amy: Yeah. Yep. That's how we, that's how I met Steve Brown too. KATYA: Steve Brown is like is the ultimate rock star, isn't he? He is like who we all want our rock stars to be. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yes. Amy: Yeah, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well he was he he's now the singer of Trickster. And he wasn't talking to us because he's like, I have a cold. It says, Don't take it personally. I have a cold right now, but I'll I'll nod and I'll shake your hand and I'll do anything. But just to s preserve his vocals, during that photo shoot, it was just PJ d doing all the talking and Steve Brown just beside him going, Amy: Yeah. Yeah. rest. KATYA: But he was there, he still showed up for it. That's awesome. Amy: feel like they've friends for so DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. Amy: long they could probably talk for each other anyway. You know? But that's how I met him too. That was really adorable, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah. KATYA: But for Steve to not talk, that's that probably tortured him. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah, but he the the he the guy said it goes he goes, look, my voice is getting shot right now. He I guess he was ha in the ending or starting a cold, so for his next show to not that or he didn't like what I ha what I had to say. I don't know. So Amy: Yeah. Yeah. KATYA: Yeah, that not at all. Amy: It was KATYA: Not at all. Amy: probably the cold. But that's exactly the same way I got to meet Trickster with Steve Brown and PJ Farley and actually how we talked to him about coming on the show. So same thing, just waited after the show. Yeah. KATYA: That's great. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: nice. KATYA: Okay, so now now Dan, I'm looking at the time. We're getting close. I have some rapid fire questions for you. You don't have to answer quickly, but first thing that comes to mind. Okay, the next concert you're looking forward to going to. Amy: Mmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Alice Cooper and second place. he's playing here in Ottawa, outside venue. He hasn't been here in over ten years. Last time I saw Alice Cooper was when I met him. So that's another one. But I paid the VIP for that one. That one I said I'm treating myself. KATYA: When and where? Wow. Okay. Amy: Nice. Mm-hmm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Six hundred Canadians No, sorry. KATYA: That's okay. That's either. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: It's it it was it's better than Kiss and Aussie, right? KATYA: Okay, yeah, that's not I was like, okay, that's pretty decent. Okay. the best concert you've attended in the last twelve months. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Triumph. I had tears in my eyes because I it that was a bucket list concert for me. It was the reunion with April wine opening and I I never thought I'd have the chance to see Triumph Live and I did. KATYA: Okay. And you did a which episode number was that? I know you did a recording of that. Amy: That's excellent. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I did a concert review. I don't remember what what episode. it's definitely in the last four months, three or four months for sure there. But yeah, they came here. Places sold out. So yeah, that I loved it. Loved it. KATYA: In the last obviously in the last year. Last few months. Yeah. Okay. Lovely. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Ugh, if you could go back in time and attend a recording session from a band in the eighties and nineties, which album and which band would it be? Amy: That's excellent. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I I've never even that question never that's a great question. KATYA: No, I'll just I saw some TV show the other day or like some special like documentary and I was like hmm to sit and watch a band do that to be there watching. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: See, like Kiss is my favorite band, but I I I I don't think I would want to be in the studio with them because Especially in the 80s, because it was just Paul Stanley and Gene was never there, you know? I probably I'd probably choose winger. Amy: Mm. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And for the winger four recording sessions. KATYA: Excellent. Okay. That's a good one. Amy: Yeah, Kit is incredibly talented, so I don't blame you for that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, if you if there's on YouTube there's a and what I like about Winger, they always do the the making of or the recording of and the making of Winger Four, if you've never seen it, there's some lightning in a bottle or magic caught on tape. I'll I'll I'll send you, Amy, the little clip afterwards. It's that cool where you're like, my god, that riff is an like anyway, I'm I'm not gonna spoil it there, but it's like lightning caught in bottle on tape. Let me put it that way. KATYA: I have not. Okay. Amy: Okay. KATYA: That is awesome. Amy: Before you continue, Kati, I have to ask who, answer your own question. Who would you choose? I'll tell you who I would choose. You want me to go first? I already know. Aerosmith? Aerosmith pump. KATYA: Yeah. Go ahead. Okay, you know, Amy, what's funny? Why I was thinking about Aerosmith? Because in Paris, Disneyland, and they have their theme park is an Aerosmith ride. And it's a crazy, it's a crazy roller coaster, like shoots you, loop-de-loops. You know not what you think of as a Disney ride, but crazy roller coaster. But as you're going through the line, it's showing you like pretending you were almost in the recording session of a recording studio. And I used to think like Amy: What? KATYA: How special of the band to think when they're making a ride that this is what you would they would want you to see. It would be like the inside of their recording studio. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But that's also at Universal in Florida. There's a there's an Aerosmith roller coaster and it starts off, you know, when you start off, he goes I forget the I f but when when the roller coaster starts, it's like Steven Tyler go, Yeah like or whatever he does there. Okay, yeah. Okay. Well it was either Disney World or yeah. KATYA: is it? Okay. Yeah. Rock and roll roller coaster. Yes, yes. That's it. That's it, yeah, it's the same roller coaster, but at a Disney park. Amy: They sold the rights. KATYA: Yeah, it was one of those and I always thought that would be yeah, because Aerosmith, that was like magical. So it would have to be a band for me, someone that recorded in the eighties, early nineties, because it would have had to have been I want someone where the whole band is together jamming and doing it. And I think there's okay, what's your runner up? Amy: What? Mm. I have a runner up. No, you go first. I would give anything to be in the studio with Mutt Lang. Mutt Lang for hysteria. 100%. 100%. To be in the studio with... KATYA: No, I mean I don't know. That's why 'cause I've just been thinking about it in my mind. Yeah, that's true. Mm. That would be another one. 'Cause you know there's DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I'd love to be a fine wall when he was with Shania though in the studio with Shania. Amy: I know right? KATYA: Shania. no, because there's also just recently watching, I had to watch it a few different times, the Bruce Springsteen movie, and I couldn't even remember it the first time. Like when I I was like, what was that movie about? So I had to re-watch it. And it's him recording one of his albums. It was really kind of like sad and depressing. So it's just been thinking about different bands of like who would I have? I'll come up with an answer someday. I just don't have one right now. okay, so now. Amy: Yeah. I get you. That question excited me, so I was like, my brain was moving. Yeah, yeah. KATYA: No, I was just think 'cause I've been thinking about that. That's why I was just like I was like, but damn I Okay, so Dan, if you had if you met a eighteen year old today and they were like, Hey, I kinda like this metal hair music, how would you get them started? Which albums? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I've I've been asked that question a few times. It's like if they want the whole gist of hair metal, I've always say poison open up and say has the whole package. It's not my favorite. Okay, it's not my favorite. It has the look, the the hooks, the so I but if I would tell them look KATYA: Yes. Okay. Not my favorite, but it has a whole package, you're right. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: If they want to get a gist of what hair metal is like, that's probably what I would tell them or give them. But if you're asking my favorite, I probably would give them rat invasion of your privacy. That's probably my a perfect album right there to me. Like I love everything. KATYA: Perfect. Okay. Great. Okay. And if you when you put hashtags on your on your channel, give me some hashtags that describe your podcast. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Hair metal. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Eighties music. my god. I okay, well here I'll tell I'll I'll actually I got my template. I got my template right here. All right, vinyl community, heavy metal, hair metal, vinyl records, vin I'm a big vinyl guy, by the way. vinyl collection, off the charts, obviously. Hair metal bands, eighties rock, rock, vinyl, record collector, eighties metal and hard rock. There you go. KATYA: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Excellent. Okay. Amy: That's excellent. Did you see what I titled our little thing? Did it show you the title of our little session right here? It says Dan the Vinyl Man. KATYA: No. okay. Mine says I see a Dan off the charts. That's what I see. Amy: Well, I see it and I see that under... Yeah, I just put it as the title of our session. I thought it was funny. Yeah, I figured you would. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I don't see the Dan, the vinyl guy there. Okay. I accept. KATYA: that's fun. Okay. Amy: That's awesome. KATYA: And so and Dan, what do we have coming up for the rest of the year? We're recording this at the end of June of twenty sixth. So what do we have to look forward to? What are you gonna be putting out? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, believe it or not, my next episode will be you girls on July. I've been actually taught I've been bragging about you girls to other people. I'm like, because you girls are su such sweethearts. I found it like and I'm I know I make you know what, Amy? I'm gonna have a I have a confession to make. I know I gave you a hard time with Danger Danger, but you know what I did that night? I went and listened to that album and I'm like, you know what? This is Amy: Six. KATYA: Thank you. I'm fleshing. Amy: I saw it. did you? DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: This is not like it's it's it's it's dumb fun, but I actually enjoyed it. It it for in the summer. Ask me this in the in the winter. What's that? Amy: Yeah, it was, you know, you just have to picture, right? KATYA: Excellent. Excellent. Amy: You just have to picture like 16, 17 year old Amy with attitude and then it makes sense. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: There you go. Well, yeah, you girls are are are are coming next. I'm still like I just like today is a when I say a busy day, I just recorded another one of my top tens earlier today. And I gotta record another one that that like in 45 minutes or so there. So it's like that one is not ending, and it's and it's and it's it's fresh because and like I said, even though Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Great. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: So fun. Such a good idea. Amy: really great. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And I'm not saying this in a bad way, your picks, you girls' picks were everyday picks, basically. But your stories behind them were so great and entertaining. And I told him it's like you watch these two girls when it's gonna air. That they're like they're they lived it. That little that that story you told me about the sunset strip. I was like, I couldn't, I couldn't believe that. See, I still got my jaw. But it's but it's fun. Amy: They work. Yeah. I KATYA: It was wild. Amy: We were well behaved but wild. It was fun. It was fun. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah, I was yeah, not not me. Not not close to that. I was too chicken shit to to to do that to do that. But Amy: Mm-mm. KATYA: I love it. I lo and a lot of good concerts coming up. Yeah. No, I was saying Amy: feel like we could get away with it. Oh, sorry. I was just gonna say, DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I I have like I said, Amy: if we could get away with it, we did it. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Alice Cooper and Wasp. KATYA: Okay. Amy: Okay. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well, again, the the the the hair metal, like I I told you girls, I think I I think I told you girls about the casino in Niagara Falls. Well we just got one built and I'm not I'm just waiting for them to come up with these, you know, triple bill like there's no reason why they can't come to Ottawa anymore 'cause they go to Aurelia and Niagara Falls, like these triple bills with like like the Lita Ford, Vixen and who else there? Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Yes. Right. They can just get to Ottawa. Love Vixen, Amy: Email them. KATYA: love Vixen. Amy: Email the casino and let them know that there's interest. Okay, good. Yeah. I keep trying to do that for our local casino, but I haven't had much luck. You know, Quiet Riot was there some time ago and we were out of town and then Paralandra was there and we didn't know that they were there, like they didn't advertise it well. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I did. I did. It's like this guy again. Amy: And now of course, I'm constantly going to their calendar and being like, is anybody that I want to see coming? Yeah, because they're half hour away. KATYA: Yeah, you have to do that. You have to do that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Yeah, well yeah, cool. Yeah, cool. No, here it's like not even a half hour away either. It's everything is is here. But again, it's like I another venue is opening up this week. Like there's a two thousand seater or something like that. But it's like it there's some great stuff happening here finally. But I'm just I'm I want one of those, you know, those M3 festivals. Amy: Mmm. KATYA: Yes. Amy: Mm. KATYA: Yes. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Like those look like r and my bucket list would actually be one of those monsters of rock crews. KATYA: We all do it together. We have to do that too. Us too. We wanna do the same. We wanna do the same. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: All right, perfect. It's it's a date. There you go. Amy: Mm-hmm. Yeah, DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: you know what? I actually put my name one time on a Kiss cruise. I never got a call back. KATYA: Okay. Okay. Thanks, well. They're loss. Okay, that's DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: So I'm like, all right. But that that's another big thing that's happening right now is those cruises that Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Yeah. That's a way to get all Amy: I know. KATYA: in just yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: And I think the the drop you off at the beach for X amount of time and there's a I don't know how it works there. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Amen. Amy: Mm-hmm. KATYA: I just don't want to do the thinking. So that would be great to go on a vacation like that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Exactly. yeah. Amy: Yeah, I mean everything's all in one place. That would be the way to do it. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But yeah, that's one thing we want like KATYA: Yeah. Don't have to worry about getting to the venue and back, right? That's DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: for for here. Amy: Well, I mean, you just have to find the stage. Right? With everything going on. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well KATYA: Okay. Yeah, it's a little too there might be some. There might be some. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But if, like I said, if I've I've taken a cruise before and if it's the same thing, like they'll they'll arrive to an island, like the boat will arrive to an island, you have to get off on a certain little twenty, thirty people boat, go to the island, you can't miss that boat to on your way back to your cruise. That's what would an like worry me. Amy: Yeah. KATYA: Otherwise it's that's in your body. Yes, yes. You're gonna miss that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Well guess what? You're spending the rest of your vacation with black and blue or KATYA: I I love it. I'll risk it. Well, Dan, thank you. This has been as fun as I like I I knew it would be. Amy: Right? So much fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I again I if I wasn't time, I could go on. Like I have so many like that's what people say of I'm like a s I'm a storyteller by KATYA: Well and I want to hear more. Like I wanna hear more after the next two shows, too how it goes. I'm gonna live vicariously for the concert going. Amy: Yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: yeah yeah. Amy: for sure. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I'm but again I'm just hoping that there's more hair metal that comes this way. Cause that's what us three have in common basically. Because there's another show, but it's like a metal show, and I don't think that's for your audience there. But see, I didn't mention that one, but like if that if that casino can get its act together, 'cause back then we used to have a bar and they brought in all these types of bands that I said I've met afterwards, because that's what they did. So but it's no longer KATYA: There will be. Yeah, that will be fine. That will be fun. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Here, so Amy: Yeah. I, well, I'm hopeful for you. I'll be hopeful for mine too. We have a lot of, we're a mixed bag, so we haven't had a rock artist at our fair for a couple of years now. They were doing really well for a while and now it's just, last two years has been terrible. I know and I think our rock guy left because we've had, we had Poison, we've had Bret Michaels, different years. KATYA: Let's get the right promoter on it. Amy: We've had, we had scorpions. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: But I go s I go see that. Amy: Yeah, well, it was all at different times. Just then there's usually I don't know if there's an opener, but there's always we've had Whitesnake. Who else did we have? my gosh. We've had a ton of really good bands come through our fair, but the last two years they've just taken rock off the table completely. They had like Sir Mix a lot and yeah, so and and country. So it's either been hip hop or country and it's old school hip hop, which KATYA: yeah. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Okay. Amy: would kind of be OK, I think we lived through the era, so it might be slightly familiar. But yeah, I just don't want to I don't want to go to the fair for that. So. Yeah. Yeah. KATYA: But still not the yeah, not the same. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Sorry. KATYA: Okay. Wonderful. this is fun. I'm gonna go put some winger on tonight. Amy: Yeah. I know, right? I was actually, when you said that, was like, please let it be pulled. Please let it be pulled. Please let it be pulled. That's my favorite album, so. KATYA: Yeah, I'm gonna listen to that. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: I again it depends on when you ask me. Yeah, it's I love all of them, but for different reasons. Amy: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I get that. I totally get that. You've made me want to go back to listen to four and seven again, though. So. KATYA: Yeah, I'm gonna do that. That's my that's my playlist when I go for a run tonight. Okay, guys. Thank you. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Ha ha ha. Amy: So fun. Dan, thank you so much for coming on the show and we're gonna air right around the same time. sounds good. Yay, we'll talk again. Bye. DAN - OFF THE CHARTS: Perfect. Well thanks for having me, girls. This means a lot. Thank you. Bye bye. KATYA: My pleasure. Well, thank you, Dan. Loved it, loved it, loved it. we didn't record all the chit-chatting we were doing before and after because we are another kindred spirit that we have, and it's so fun to know there's people that are even crazier about music than we are. Amy: Right? Yeah, seriously. Right, right? I okay, now I have some favorite parts of this episode. Okay, so to have somebody's favorite album at least today be pull, winger album be pull. I love that. but also I love chatting like backstage preferences. I'm sorry. Hi, you're speaking to my heart here. I that was I I could have gone on and on and on about that. KATYA: By Winger. Amy: I I I loved it. And and I'm really excited to listen to Thunder Mother. I had to go double check because I was gonna say it wrong. If you say that wrong, watch out. You could get yourself in trouble. Yeah, another Swedish band. So and girls even. So yes, please. Yes, please. Anyway. KATYA: Me too. Thunder Mother from Sweden. Yeah, let's go. And like and and I'm thinking like I'm thinking of all these things he talks about. We need to have promote more bands at small venues, at state fairs, at casinos, at everything we do, because there's an audience out there. So we need to get we need to push that. Okay, Aim. It's been fantastic. Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Agreed. Yeah. It has been so fun. You guys, thanks for coming along.
