- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: They've got the in-house made daily from scratch tortillas.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Who was doing that in the stadium?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody is doing that in the stadium and the crispy melted cheese honored with a ward after a war at a signature of Mexico City style is a staple of the wonderful forks folks and the wonderful forks at Puesto don't just use your hands, don't need a fork.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Plesto where you can get the filet mignon taco amazing my personal favorite the short rib case of beria taco If you go to the brick and mortar, they got the shrimp go put it or case of the the Mexican shrimp the poblano The pickled red onion the jalapeno salsa go a bit more
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: and get in my belly.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: They got locations in Santa Clara.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: One in Santa Clara.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: They got a location in Concord.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: They got Southern California.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great vibe.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: They got TVs.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: They got great drinks.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: Big menus.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic food.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: The Adler brothers know exactly what they're doing plus.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: They are big 40 matters fans.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you are going to the game, on Sunday.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: Go to Puesto, two taco stands on the main concourse in Levi's stadium.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to the game, but you're in Northern California in the Bay Area.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Or in Southern California, maybe La Jolla, maybe Orange County.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Find yourself a Puesto, watch games there, maybe hit a Monday night, maybe a Tuesday, maybe a Thursday night, check out the Niners.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's great.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Adler Brothers.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Puesto, for the support.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And let's get to the podcast.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so you're in the booth, again, Sunday, 49ers in the Cardinals.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Fill him in for ol' G-Pop again this week.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, home opener feels like it's been a month since the honors were playing a game at home, and that was a preseason game.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, and did Brock play in that game?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: I can barely, no, he didn't.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: No, he only played in the... Raising game against the Raiders.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Here's, I mean, this is,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I find it kind of interesting that it used to be the parents had this tradition where they had where their white uniforms, their road whites at home during the preseason and then they were the traditional red jerseys during the regular season at home.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: And this year is the first time ever.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: that they're going to be wearing their white uniforms or white tops for a couple of games at home.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: And it all goes back to that game week five last year where it was a hot day at Levi's stadium.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: And the 49ers were outscored 14 nothing in the second half against the Cardinals.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And so here we are, the 49ers in the the throwback whites and the Cardinals will be wearing
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: on Sunday.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard for me to pick, but the throwback whites might be my favorite 40 matters uniform.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think for the players, it's probably really cool to wear the all white, but then you see the red and the red is so rich that the Montana red is the call it Matt.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's also great.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they're calling it these days.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what it's called.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: I call it candlestick red, but I I love the uniforms.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was when I heard Kyle Shanahan say on Thursday on Canbeard that he had to decide an April weather or not, they were going to wear these uniforms today.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: You information you already knew, but I like them.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: I like them a lot.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what's the weather going to be 80, 82, 83,
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know how it never rains at Otson?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's the, I do know that.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, that's the saying the, the Levi's California hot, 85.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, a Fresno winter, 85 degrees.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: So what, as you prepare for this game, kind of what stands out to you about, just, I'll just leave it wide open like that.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: What, what, where do your eyeballs go?
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you, when you're taking notes
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: generally speaking about this 49ers Cardinals matchup.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, historically, in recent history, they're not close games.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: They're both to an O, which, you know, they're in the 49ers Cardinals history is not a lot of games, where they're, I mean, it's early, but where they're both kind of doing the right thing.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: And three, and I was a big deal in the NFL.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of percentage, chance of making the playoffs.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the Brock party will hear won't he, you know, I said the other day after seeing some of Brock bounce around or not really bounce around on Wednesday.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be pretty surprised if it's not Mac Jones this week and also if Brock can't move.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: as well as he does, the net negates some of the advantage of having Brock Perti a quarterback.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think for Arizona, you know, they're two and oh, I think like the Niners of Squeak by a couple of games, although they were dominating Caroline and Carolina came back on them 49ers found ways to win.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think San Francisco's played a little better overall than Arizona has Arizona.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: To their credit has one games with an offense that is
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: Kyler, Kyler can be a problem and then the last thing that stands out to be met just overarching is I think this is
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: better, this talent up front, it's not Seattle's defense up front, but it's certainly better than the New Orleans defense that didn't put a ton of pressure on Mac Jones or at least that the Niners Online did a good job against last week.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so I want to hit a couple of these things for Brock Perti in where we're recording this on Friday morning, Kyle Sheenhan will speak to the media a little bit later in the day.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: I would think that he would maybe be a little bit more fourth right as far as what the plan is.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree with you.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think Matt Jones starts this game.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: The question for me would be is Brock Perti the number two or is he the emergency number three?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: and a lot of that, or all of that, has to go with Adrian Martinez, who's on the practice squad and was the back last week.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: Do the forearms want to bring up two guys from the practice squad who aren't Adrian Martinez, in other words.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess even if they bring him up, they could have him as the emergency three, but I don't know if that'd make a whole lot of sense.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: is that party is active for the game, but he's the number two, because the backup doesn't get many 11, 11, 11 reps in practice anyway, and so that would kind of go with the way the practice week has gone with Mac Jones being the guy who's taking all the reps.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: So it seems like
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: pretty as a much better spot than what they had initially feared.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think it's, you know, darn near a Fedacum plea, he will be the starting quarterback week for against Jacksonville.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't see it happening this week.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing you mentioned, Tyler Murray, I just think that Ford owners are in a better spot now against Tyler Murray because their team speed gets so much better, you know, the young guys and thinking of, you know, D-Winters.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: Think about that 50 art touchdown run
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was Devondrae Campbell who couldn't run just kind of getting washed out and then Talino who Fanga who you know, good player, but not exactly a speed burner, he comes crashing down the line of scrammage.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: He had all the uncertainty, you know, nickel back and
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: outside corner and all that stuff.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: And now you basically have, if you're the 49ers, D winners who's in every down linebacker who can run, you have marquee seagull at safety who can run, and you have up and stout at Nickelback who can run.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the 49ers are in a much better spot as far as defending Kyler Murray than maybe they've been ever since Kyler Murray's been in the
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that Kyler run last year was over after about 10 yards and still had 40 more to go.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think he, I think at the 10 yard mark, he had basically held the ball out.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was starting to celebrate.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: It touched down like 40 yards from the he waived by by.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: He did.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: He did.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: Unlike Gino Smith who later in the season did the 99.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: The Steph Curry.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I just, you know, I think there's scars with Kyler.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's a great kind of is this different, you know, the first two weeks that I was with one games that maybe they would have lost last year.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so you go, okay, maybe things are different after a preseason that felt like it was more the same with all the injuries.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I think holding Kyler in check would be another sign that things are a little bit different this year.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And again, like James Conner's running it for three yards of carry.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: They can not, they're, they're, they're free.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: What did Mike Patton once say after the Browns beat the 49ers?
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: He said everyone's telling me that there, that our house is on fire, but look at that, or something along those lines.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, right now, there, there are some stress around Arizona about their, they're offense because they can't get Marvin Harris on the ball.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler's yards per attempt is pretty low and now they've got kind of the same their quarterback's not hurt, but they've got injury issues, right?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're slot corners, one of the best in the league, Garrett Williams.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a knee issue, is Will Johnson going to play as Max Malton going to play.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: There are other two corners, so they're a little beat up in their second.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: They're very amazing.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: I know, guy, I would say if the if the Cardinals
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: feel like they can afford injuries and their defensive back field.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: This would be the week.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers, I mean, they're in such flocks at the the wide receiver position and I don't think that John Jennings is going to be out there.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that means Kendrick Barnes is going to be out there.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: And basically at the wide receiver position, it's been Ricky Pierce saw and
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: who knows who else, because nobody else has practiced much at all, and you even saw it in that game against New Orleans where as, you know, this is nothing new.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: They've always used him in a way like this, but now Christian McAfrey might be their second best wide receiver.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, think about it.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he lined up at wide receiver, mostly in the slot, but he lined up at wide receiver a lot in that game against New Orleans.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't have anybody that they can rely upon.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you see that by Kendrick Born showing up on a Monday and playing 30 some odd snaps on a Sunday.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: So it's Ricky Parasol.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's Kendrick born and then beyond that it's it's fill in the blanks of guys we don't, you know, who haven't been around and aren't up to speed in the system.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, and tight ends, right.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is usually a kiddo game.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Cardinals he kills everybody.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: He really makes life difficult on the Cardinals.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: So is this a Jake times Jake time just getting four targets.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: This week.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe those two guys, you know what?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Those kids guys have done a really good job.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know, it's only been what a one game and three quarters is something.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: But what Togis has done, what Luke Feral has done, you know, combined, they're not George Kittle, but combined, they're not bad.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one's a blocker, one's more of a receiver.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, for here's I've had three tight ends, catch touchdown passes in the first two games, which nobody had that on their being go guard.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, and I would say, I think what's impressive about those guys, too, is both of the 49ers games.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's been an in-game injury, not a carryover injury.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: So kiddo gets hurt week one, they have to adjust.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Use check gets hurt week two in the game, and they have to adjust, and you know, he's obviously got the concussion.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: So obviously they knew George wasn't going to play going into week two, but there's so much
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: that they've had to adjust on the fly both times and they've been at both times.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, no, you're right.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: Lot of credit.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was guys scored a touchdown before this year.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: And you're playing with George Kitter, you're like, well, I'm not getting a touchdown on this team.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: It may have just got one.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, I know people were asked for the, you know, I, all one of our shows to me, like, is this year that Luke Feral scores a touchdown.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, I think it was like 68 games, 67 games in his career, four years in Jacksonville had in scored a touchdown.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Not even in the preseason match.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I never scored a
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: And so my answer was no, he's not scoring a touch.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: So we go and had a preseason touchdown before that's the funeral.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, uh, uh, by the way, you, you mentioned you check.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: I, I think he'll play.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the communications are difficult to predict.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: So we don't know, you know, how he woke up feeling this morning.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that both he and Sereniel, who's a core specialties player, were out there in their blue non contactures.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: These, that signifies that they've made it through four.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: of the five stages required to get clearance from the return to play protocol.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: So it's trending in a very positive direction for both Kyle use check and surround Neil.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Can I ask you a question?
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: Two weeks of Brian Robinson Jr.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: How do you think it's gone?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, where is Isaac Garendo's place in this you think?
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's gone well for Brian Robinson because you know those how many ever snaps he was let's see I think they played 71 snaps and McAfrey's on the field for 55 of them which you know is still a lot but it's probably less than what we've come to expect when McAfrey's out there so I think as Robinson goes on it'll
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: He'll take a little bit more playing time, keeping McAfrey fresh throughout a game and throughout the season.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: So from that standpoint, good.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: Robin Sin is a plauder, right?
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's just, you know, he's a power back.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gonna, he'll try to run over you.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gonna juky anybody.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gonna be picking up huge yardage.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kyle just feels more comfortable with a veteran guy who's played a lot of football as opposed to Garendo, who's more of a home-run hitter.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, whether it's Garendo falling out of favor or they just don't have enough carries to go around to keep three backs, you know, get three backs out there.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you don't ever want to say like, oh, they'll need Gorendo at some point because that kind of intimates that you're expecting injuries at some point, but I think maybe I had a higher opinion of Gorendo just as a home run hitter than the coaching staff appears and to have and and whether that's pass protection, that's probably a big deal.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so with McAfrey who's, you know, it's such a good all around running back, past protection included, Robinson, the same thing.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would feel from an offensive standpoint, it just, it brings more punch to the offense to get Garendo out there.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's just more about keeping the pieces moving and not making the disastrous mistake.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, which you're take on Garendo,
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, well, I think that's true.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think, you know, the, the, the fumble issue is, is beyond and execute, right?
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I don't mean, here's, I just mean fumbles in general for Shanna hand.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: The only guy who can fumble and come back on.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: There's only one 23 can fumble and come back on the field on the next.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: On the next series, which is fine.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, um, you know, can I, can I add one thing?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was, and I've had forgotten until someone with the 49ers reminded me yesterday that I mentioned something about, you know, that game against Arizona and just, you know, like the weather and you know, did that play a factor or whatever and then.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: then the person says to me, well, you know, Jordan Mason's fumble at the eight-yard line, didn't it exactly help either?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd kind of forgotten about that.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they were ready to win that game.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: They were ready to make it a two-score game, midway through the fourth quarter, and Mason, I think it's, I got a first first-ing goal run at the eight-yard line or something.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he fumble, and that gave the Cardinals the opening,
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, huh, that's right.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying that that's the reason he was traded, but still so many months later, a year later, that still kind of haunts this team a little bit, that letting that game against the Cardinals get away.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: It is worse than missing field goals for Kyle Shanahan.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think our history tells us that now I guess you can't replace a kicker in game the way you can.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: Running back, but the only point I wanted to make on Brian Robertson is I think it's probably really hard to be a player who gets, and I think we, who gets 15 carries a game and now gets seven.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think there is a rhythm to playing a lot of positions and running back has to be at the top of the list.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would imagine running back would say,
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let me get two yards of carry for five carries to start the game.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just keep giving me the ball and we'll figure this thing out.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so I would have met my, what I'm getting at is I would, I don't know if hope is the right word anticipate feels too optimistic, but I wouldn't be surprised.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: If in a month we look up and Brian Robinson is a more effective running back than he's been.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Three and a half yards per carry is the lowest of his career.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's only a four year career, but three and a half yards per carry is low for him.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: In an offense, we're running backs, don't have, they have highs, not lows when it comes to their, you know, averages.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there's probably a little more to Brian Robinson, then we're getting at this point.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the only thing to do is to keep giving him the ball, I would the point you make is this is.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not telling you what point you may make it better than me, please.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm going to edit that, please.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think what you're getting at here, at least the way I interpret it is his style of running, limp itself.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: to being more effective the more he touches the ball, right?
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's this battering ram style, and I don't know if it's a real thing, but like, you know, wearing down a defense.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, he's not gonna be the guy who potentially Garinda could become,
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: you know, he has two carries, one of them is a toss sweep and he takes it for 35 yards.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's not Brian Robinson.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Brian Robinson is more, you know, one yard, three yards, two yards, eight yards, 12 yards, one yard.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's like it's kind of a, like a quantity, you know, it's more setting it up and just being patient.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that's probably the
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: A Brian Robinson running game is one built on patience.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, okay, he's.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Just keep giving it to him.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to get one here.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to start wearing them down.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then once you do, then it becomes five yards, six yards, seven yards, five yards.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe that's where he hasn't been as effective.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: And also, he doesn't know the offense in and out.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: But the question I would have then is will the pre-air's ever get into that situation, as long as they have both McCaffrey and Robinson
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: that they have the luxury of having that patience with Brian Robinson to just keep feeding him the ball four or five times in a row.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, I mean, it's a good question.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it just takes a little longer because you do want to get Christian on the field.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: But I also think that the way we talk about running the backs and it's often to similar to quarterbacks.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like and it's the conversation with Mac.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's a great system for quarterbacks.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Once you learn it,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: But it's complicated.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: So if you can do the things that are required once you learn it, then it's a very effective system for quarterback.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's probably some similarities with running backs.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like it still is a very precise offense for a running back.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: You don't just, you don't get to go out there and just create and do whatever you want.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be at the right place at the right time.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then you get to create.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I would imagine for him there will be
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: As you said, like, does he know the whole offense or is it a game plan?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: Those are two other things.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's more coming.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not that we need to spend this much time on Brian Robinson, but yeah, I just want to make it interesting.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: One point, Krishna McCaffrey said last week, sometimes it is better or easier to learn the offense game plan by game plan.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: And what we mean by that is, you know, when a guy comes in the off season, it's basically, I think
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: they learn the entire offense and then they kind of whittle it down and start doing, you know, start kind of compartmentalizing it and then, you know, they learn it all again in training camp.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: And when a guy like Brian Robinson who came in late in training camp, it's basically, you know, I don't know what the number is, but, you know, here are the 80 plays, 60 plays with the different formations in this week's game plan.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: learn these plays.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to know what we ran off of this formation two weeks ago that helped set up this play.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: You just have to know these plays and then we'll deal with all the other stuff in the off season when we have time but just these are the plays you have to learn this week and then next week there will be a lot of carryover but there will be some new plays you have to learn.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, what else you got?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I got one for you, too.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, let's hear it.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: Is the defense is the Robert solid defense back?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's different, but like are the nighters a good defense?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's so different.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna say they're a good defense yet, because I think the Saints offense isn't very good.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49ers had a lot of breakdowns.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: They made it too easy on the Saints in week two.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think they need to tighten up their zone coverages.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: There will be a lot of zone coverage because the last thing you want are defensive backs running with their back turned down the field and in the linebackers running down the field with running back or tight ends and leaving Tyler Murray to escape through, you know, the B gap and now he's off to the races.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know if I would say that, but I will say this.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think that.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: It this is a work in progress with their defense and all those young guys.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: They they look good like there's a lot there there's a lot there with
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: The guys on the back end, we talked about with Seagull and Stout.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot there, I think with D winners who can get better, and then you look at that defensive line.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: And Alfred Collins starts to look like, okay, I can see why they took him in the second round.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: But Mike Hill Williams, holy cow.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's already one of the most important players on that defense because of the number of snaps that he eats up on the defensive line, whether it's basin or moving inside and rush the passer.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's a total, it's I think it's evolving.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that what we've seen from
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: it'll be kind of like, it'll be a game plan to game plan thing.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, think about like Luke Gifford started week one at the Sam Linebacker.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't even get on the field in week two, not because he got benched.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was because
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: they decided the best way to go against the Saints was to play a big nickel, which I or Brown taking that spot and playing a lot of standard nickel with up and stout.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of like every week as I, okay, how are they gonna play it defensively this time?
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Are they gonna be mixing in more man, more zone?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: But when Robert Salas first incarnation as the defense coordinator of the 49ers, I mean, it was they were so,
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: predictable, but in a good way, you know, it was like they had the horses.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: So it's for me.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's fresh and play cover three.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's, there's a lot more creativity going on with that defense and they have the young guys that's so far appear like they can pull it off.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was definitely a preseason take that I thought is this a little rosy of a take like, oh, early season road games and young players and by the middle of the year they're really good at their stride.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm kind of buying it after watching this defense in two weeks.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Not there yet, but you know, I think the fact that all these guys who were not healthy in the preseason are healthy now and just able to get on the field and play and get reps and grow from week to week.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is another week where I think Michael Williams and Alfred Collins can play well that the Cardinals offensive line is not a dominant offensive line.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, as you mentioned earlier, I think you alluded to this earlier, like defending Kyler is not about getting up field as quickly as possible, right?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's about keeping him in the pocket.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so I, you know, that, my call is, he's not a guy that's going to freelance all the way out field.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: He is just collapsing the pocket, Collins just, can he just hold the point that sort of thing?
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's another fun week for them.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's, and it's not, here's where I think the forearms have an advantage over what they had last year is that, you know, it's not about a spy, you know, let's put, let's put D winners on him and just make sure that everywhere Kyler goat, now it's it's about rallying to the ball, you know, it's about, you know, having having eyeballs on him, not changing up the defense, it's just making sure that.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: like you said, like kind of controlling him in the pocket and whenever he escapes, you know, have guys there, guys who can run and and and take him down and keep those those scramble's to a minimum.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think the 49ers are in a, they're in a good spot when you consider
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: winning two games on the road that they probably, they should have won, they did.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: And now they come home and they face a two-and-o team, I don't even know what the point spread is.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: I would imagine their favorite, right?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, maybe it's one, I think it's small.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay, well, yeah, it'll be a good game.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think all these division games are gonna be close.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's just how much faith do you have guy in Eddie Piniero?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: Nazareth, three point favorite.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: I have faith in Eddie.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to Eddie in the locker room today.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, he's not overthink.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie Pinyo's not overthink it guy.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, he makes a lot of money there.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's like, he's a lot like you.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Just loose and easy and breezy.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: Mayoco.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, didn't you?
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't want to bash on the guy.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: Now that he's gone, but it just seemed like Jake Moody was just
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, there just seemed to be too much thinking going on, even in good times, it's just like, it was never easy talking to him, it seemed like, and Eddie was just like, for his first time, he kind of looked around and was like, whoa, there's a lot of media that covers you guys.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's, look, I think it's really hard.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, I thought it's been really interesting yesterday in his press conference in post game.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: On Sunday, Mac Jones really opened up about, and you know, you could read between the line Sunday, and then he really went more in-depth on Thursday about mental talk like all the work that he does because of how challenging it all is to keep the right mindset.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: And breath work, stuff that Pertis talked about, you know,
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're a quarterback.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: You make a mistake.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: They run you back out there 20 more times.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: You throw the ball that day.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: Kicker.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: It can really create a landslide on you.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it did with Jake.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think what's interesting.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this week in particular, the kicker for the Cardinals is Chad Ryle and Chad Ryle and was the kicker taken right after Jake Moody.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: He got drafted because Moody went off the board and Ryle and got picked 13 picks later, right, which is also very high for a
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: He was not good in his first year in New England.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was a 64% kicker his year in New England.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: And they caught him.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Joey Sly took his job the next year.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then he went to Arizona last year.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: He reiner's legend Joey.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, the the the nighter's history is littered with the.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: with 49er kicker legends, but Chad Rylan's a 64% kicker after one year, New England handles it very differently than the 49ers, the Dicca tides.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: And then he became like an 85% kicker the next year, two years ago in Arizona.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that was last year in Arizona.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, that last year, two years ago.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: This was Moody's third year.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: This was Moody's third year.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: So he hit the game winner against the 49ers, right?
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: last year.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he would have that was him.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: So he went from an unreliable kicker to a very reliable kicker in one off season.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the way it works in the NFL.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he just never know.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, you know, for for Jake Moody's sake, I hope he can use that experience as a positive.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and you just felt like in in the next place he goes there won't be that pressure of third round traffic, you know, number 99 overall or whatever it was.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and that that was just that was a burden that he wore with the 49ers.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm I'm into.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: Eddie Panieros got these these now he's been on like six teams.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but you know, he's like a he's a soccer player who didn't play football till his senior year of high school and then he wouldn't play jacy soccer like it's it's he came in and they have had with a very different level of scrutiny
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: And he obviously kicked the Florida where there is a lot of scrutiny, but you know, it's successful as he's been, you know, when when I heard that he was coming in for the workout or, you know, whatever, they were going to sign him.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I had to like go to pro football reference, like to refresh my memory out of, you know, who is this guy?
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's with the, you know, he's with the panthers, okay, remember that.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's also with the bears and
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's with this team and that team, that's just the way it works.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess that kind of points to, you know, those who say you should never draft a kicker.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's kind of, there's a lot of exhibit A's, but that he's definitely one of us like, yeah, you can get a guy who, I mean, Eddie Pignano, one week into the season, the fourth most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't have a team to kick for and he's a young guy or a young relatively speaking 30.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's 30 is not he's still, you know, for a kicker that's that's probably your prime right there.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder too, if the advantage that the Niners had when they drafted Jake mood, that the advantage of a big leg kicker had two years ago, maybe it's a little different.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Eddie told me he thought the fact that you can now work in the kicking ball versus using a stiff brand new ball, which has been the case in years past.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: ads maybe a yard maybe three yards he does think he told me it's why we're seeing so many bigger kicks now in addition to kickers getting better that the fact that the ball every team gets it's been written about now I think this week a couple of times maybe you did but uh did you write about this I did not no okay so every team gets 60 balls at the beginning of the year now that they can work in like the kickers can use these balls in practice they can rub them up
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and so it creates a more worked-in ball.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: You can still maximize the PSI at 13.5, which is, I think, what the kickers tend to like, because it's the kick, it goes the furthest.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so maybe now a guy who's range was 50 is now 54.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Ideally, you can hit a kick from, let's say, oh, it's great to have a guy that can hit a 70 yard kick.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's great at the end of a game.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: But are you trying that kick in the second quarter?
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: Or if you miss it, now the team is in plus territory?
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, maybe you don't need the biggest leg in the world anymore because your average kicker can get a 53-yarder, which is maybe as far as you will want to do it outside a game winning or end of half situations.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, I learned more about PSI right there than I think I arrived.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's 13.5.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: But is that you think that that's why Tom Brady was in the
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's wearing us, I wouldn't be wearing a suit today, Tom, but Tom put the suit on for the radar game.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, we've talked kickers.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably anything else we should talk about heading into this week, three matchup.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was right.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: Here's one point I'd make is that two undefeated teams in the NFC West.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about the 49ers last place schedule, the Rams first place schedule.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where it starts to come into focus, where the Rams meanwhile are playing the Eagles in Philadelphia and the 49ers don't play the Eagles.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're NFC East team that they play the Giants.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: So this is where you start to perhaps see an advantage
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: for the 49ers, whether they beat the Cardinals or not, the more important matchup would be how the 49ers do against the giants later in the year and how the Rams do against the Eagles Sunday morning.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: The Eagles, I saw it, somebody post, like the Eagles have lost like one of their last, I don't even know how many games.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: They're officiating the Twitch push different this week.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Titan, I just appreciate it the way it's supposed to be.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was that was kind of ridiculous with the very blatant fall start that they've that they got away with, but oh well.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: That may be Tush Push, that'll be our next long conversation.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think, speaking to Tush Push, did you see was a Jake Tanjas who just grabbed Mac Jones around the waist and tried to tackle him forward on a short yardage play last week?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember that, but am I making that up?
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, I bet you're not making it up.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: So that was their form of the Tush Push.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was the
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: the the the waste wrangle.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: He just grabbed him from behind around the waste and tried to push him forward.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I did that.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: Keep an eye on that.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: And don't and you know, you can use your own discretion, whether you want to call up the waste wrangle or not.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to kill these snakes with with the 49ers quarterback situation right now.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's that.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right, got that.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: Great, great.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Always fun talking to you and have a great call on Sunday 49ers and the Cardinals.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: See you there.
