Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Football at Four: Was the Eagles Offense Better Than We Think Against the Chargers?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher from the Inside the Birds podcast is here,
- 0:05Speaker 1: and let's take a look at what we saw last
- 0:08Speaker 1: night and kind of go with the big picture here, Jeff,
- 0:12Speaker 1: when you look at that offense last night, is this
- 0:16Speaker 1: their offense? Is this what you have seen from them
- 0:19Speaker 1: over the first thirteen weeks? Did they try to do
- 0:22Speaker 1: something be something they weren't last night?
- 0:25Speaker 2: A Wow, that's a really good leading because yes, the
- 0:30Speaker 2: answer to that is yes, even though you asked, is
- 0:33Speaker 2: it one or the other? So let me break that
- 0:36Speaker 2: down for you. The first part is is this the
- 0:39Speaker 2: same offense that we're basically seeing well four for thirteen
- 0:43Speaker 2: on third down, we'll tell you sure. It is struggling
- 0:46Speaker 2: to run the ball outside of the one, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 2: trick play run that they got from Saquon Berkeley and
- 0:52Speaker 2: a couple of good runs early. You're right, three point
- 0:55Speaker 2: seven yards per carry on pretty much every other carry. Yeah,
- 0:58Speaker 2: that's what we're seeing. We haven't really seen a whole
- 1:00Speaker 2: lot of turnovers throughout the year, but lately. Yes. But
- 1:05Speaker 2: and this is a very important butt and it's gonna
- 1:07Speaker 2: sound crazy on a daylight today, but Adam and I
- 1:11Speaker 2: just finished doing inside the Tape with Greg Cosell, and
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, nobody breaks down tape better than Greg. And
- 1:17Speaker 2: one thing Greg made a big point to point out
- 1:20Speaker 2: is that, for the first time he can remember, the
- 1:24Speaker 2: Eagles implemented actual like NFL pass game concepts, flood concepts
- 1:33Speaker 2: for strong I don't know if you guys are familiar
- 1:35Speaker 2: with what these are, but these are things that you
- 1:37Speaker 2: see other teams doing with more advanced passing offenses. And
- 1:43Speaker 2: if you could just if you can just take the
- 1:47Speaker 2: four interceptions and sort of remind yourself that that's not
- 1:51Speaker 2: really who Jalen Hurts is or what he does, and
- 1:53Speaker 2: this was a freakishly bad game for him from that perspective.
- 1:57Speaker 2: He made a ton of really good throws, spread empty formations,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and some of those passing concepts that they implemented for
- 2:05Speaker 2: this game that they hadn't done before that if you
- 2:09Speaker 2: squint hard enough, you could might see some development. If
- 2:12Speaker 2: they can springboard off at Mike and build and grow
- 2:16Speaker 2: on it and obviously not turn the ball over four
- 2:18Speaker 2: times a game, which nobody does that, then there might
- 2:22Speaker 2: actually be a glimmer of hope on a day when
- 2:24Speaker 2: it seems like there's none.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Listen, I don't discount what you're saying either because I thought,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you know why he made he had four interceptions, he
- 2:31Speaker 1: had five turnovers. He made some bad decisions, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: had some But at the same time, the throw he
- 2:37Speaker 1: makes to AJ Brown, that's a perfect throw. I mean,
- 2:39Speaker 1: he throws a dime, he lays it right in there.
- 2:42Speaker 1: There's three relates that AJ Brown admit it like I
- 2:45Speaker 1: wish I could have them back. So there is to
- 2:47Speaker 1: me this fourth interception game is getting lumped in that
- 2:50Speaker 1: he had this awful, awful day, And I'm not sure
- 2:54Speaker 1: that he was horrendously bad. It's just that it really
- 2:57Speaker 1: wasn't what this team generally is, right, It's not who
- 3:01Speaker 1: they generally are. The offense we saw last night is
- 3:03Speaker 1: not generally what they are. And I guess the question
- 3:06Speaker 1: is that a step in the right direction or no,
- 3:09Speaker 1: that's not who you really want to be.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I think he could be, Mike. I mean, listen, you
- 3:15Speaker 2: can't criticize the Eagles for the whole insanity thing of
- 3:19Speaker 2: trying to do the same thing over and over and
- 3:21Speaker 2: getting the same result, and then criticize them for trying
- 3:25Speaker 2: to do something different, be more advanced, show a little
- 3:30Speaker 2: more faith in the quarterback. By adding these passing concepts
- 3:34Speaker 2: that they really haven't done before, because you can't have
- 3:38Speaker 2: it both ways. And I think that at this point,
- 3:40Speaker 2: after three years of seeing the offense, the passing offense
- 3:44Speaker 2: especially regress. Yes, they won a Super Bowl, but last
- 3:48Speaker 2: year the passing offense regressed from the year before and
- 3:50Speaker 2: of course the year before that, it was time to
- 3:53Speaker 2: just to try to do some things that the other
- 3:56Speaker 2: team wasn't expecting and that could help give your quarterback
- 4:01Speaker 2: definable reads, patterns that maybe he wasn't initially comfortable with,
- 4:05Speaker 2: but could get comfortable with and could uplift your offense.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Because at this point, what do you got to lose?
- 4:12Speaker 2: I think by going into yet last night's game, everybody
- 4:15Speaker 2: was sick and tired, including the Eagles and the players
- 4:17Speaker 2: you've heard it were just sick and tired of the
- 4:20Speaker 2: offense that they had been running that had not been working.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I agree with that. But they keep winning, right, they
- 4:29Speaker 1: keep winning. And the difference last night was they turned
- 4:31Speaker 1: the ball over. And I look back to a bunch
- 4:33Speaker 1: of these games in this little stretch here, and you
- 4:34Speaker 1: look back at you know, Detroit Green Bay. They scored
- 4:39Speaker 1: ten points and they won. Why they didn't turn the
- 4:41Speaker 1: ball over. Detroit, they scored sixteen points and they won.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They didn't turn the ball over. Well, Dallas, you scored
- 4:47Speaker 1: twenty one and you lost. You turned the ball over.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Chicago fifteen and you lost. You turned the ball over.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And then last night nineteen and you lost. Turned the
- 4:54Speaker 1: ball over five times. I don't know that the ten
- 4:57Speaker 1: and the sixteen are sustainable, but the common theme is
- 5:00Speaker 1: the turnovers to turnovers to turnovers.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yes, that's right, and so look, this could be a
- 5:06Speaker 2: learning lesson for the franchise, not only for now, but
- 5:11Speaker 2: in the future. Can they do can they can they
- 5:14Speaker 2: add to their offense? Can they make it a little
- 5:17Speaker 2: more complex? Can they diversify it and not turn the
- 5:21Speaker 2: ball over? This whole thing started right from two years
- 5:24Speaker 2: ago when he had a bunch of turnovers in the
- 5:25Speaker 2: first seven games. And then they went ground and pound
- 5:28Speaker 2: and defense and limit how many throws you make. And
- 5:32Speaker 2: it was fun when you won a Super Bowl and
- 5:34Speaker 2: you had the number one defense, But you're not always
- 5:35Speaker 2: going to have the number one defense, and you can't
- 5:38Speaker 2: now even ask your defense to keep picking up the logans.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Even last night, as great as defense played, they were
- 5:44Speaker 2: on the field too much and they had to you know,
- 5:47Speaker 2: they obviously couldn't stop the Chargers in the last drive
- 5:49Speaker 2: in overtime. So the lesson might be learned is can
- 5:53Speaker 2: they use this lesson right? Can they use what they
- 5:56Speaker 2: did and grow from it and improve from it and
- 5:58Speaker 2: be a better overall offense or does this mean that
- 6:02Speaker 2: they are going to be more turnover prone, lose games
- 6:05Speaker 2: and then have to rethink everything you know, and that
- 6:08Speaker 2: loes the quarterback. To be honest with you, Well, there's
- 6:11Speaker 2: a lot. I think we got to this. The point is,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I think it's fair that we got to this point
- 6:16Speaker 2: where they felt like they needed to do this. I
- 6:19Speaker 2: think that you were right to say when they beat
- 6:21Speaker 2: the Lions and beat the Packers scoring a total of
- 6:24Speaker 2: twenty six points that that was not sustainable.
- 6:28Speaker 1: No, it's not. And what's not sustainable either though, is
- 6:31Speaker 1: the fact that they haven't been able to run the
- 6:32Speaker 1: ball at all this season and then last night, you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: they had the big run on that variation of the
- 6:37Speaker 1: Toushbush play. They did run the ball pretty well, but
- 6:40Speaker 1: you could see so many times they just have no
- 6:42Speaker 1: confidence in their run game. Third down and two they
- 6:45Speaker 1: throw the ball, you're down on the goal line, they're
- 6:47Speaker 1: throwing the ball. I mean, they just don't have any
- 6:49Speaker 1: confidence in the run game at all.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Well, and that's sort of the point of this, Mike,
- 6:53Speaker 2: is that maybe to fix the run game, you have
- 6:58Speaker 2: to fix the pass game first. To help open the
- 7:01Speaker 2: run game. At some point you can't, right. The whole
- 7:03Speaker 2: point is, don't be staled, don't just rely on everything
- 7:06Speaker 2: you've done in the past, because everybody's game planning to
- 7:09Speaker 2: take that out of you. I'm gonna use the forty
- 7:11Speaker 2: nine Ers as an example. If you remember, for the
- 7:13Speaker 2: first five or six weeks of the season, Christian McCaffrey
- 7:16Speaker 2: and sa Von Barkley were like the same guy. They
- 7:20Speaker 2: were both averaging three point three yards for carry. They
- 7:22Speaker 2: were a zilch of a run game for either team.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Both teams like to run the ball, but the forty
- 7:28Speaker 2: nine Ers were able to say, okay, let's turn to
- 7:31Speaker 2: our pass game. Let's ay get Christian McCaffrey more involved
- 7:34Speaker 2: in it, which they did. But then even with mac Jones,
- 7:37Speaker 2: they were able to get the ball due their receivers
- 7:40Speaker 2: and then use their passing game. They got the pass
- 7:42Speaker 2: game going, and now their run game is better and
- 7:45Speaker 2: maybe that's where the Eagles need to get They need
- 7:48Speaker 2: to get the pass game fixed, more diversified, give the
- 7:51Speaker 2: defense to something more to think about, whether it's going
- 7:54Speaker 2: under center, whether it's going spread empty. The Eagles did
- 7:57Speaker 2: that fifteen times, I believe yesterday, which is probably the
- 8:00Speaker 2: most they've done that this year. Then using these principles
- 8:04Speaker 2: in the passing game to get some rhythm. Again, it's
- 8:07Speaker 2: it's all looks crappy today because the end result is
- 8:11Speaker 2: the end result. They still work, didn't score points.
- 8:15Speaker 1: That's essentially what Jalen Hurt said last night. You know
- 8:17Speaker 1: he felt like, hey, the process going into the league
- 8:20Speaker 1: was much better, right, I mean that's something that he
- 8:22Speaker 1: said after the game.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure he felt he and the offense felt
- 8:26Speaker 2: pretty good about knowing that they were going to give
- 8:30Speaker 2: the Chargers some fresh looks and some concepts that the
- 8:35Speaker 2: Chargers hadn't seen, and that the Eagles were probably at
- 8:38Speaker 2: this point thought, you think the Eagles are pretty anxious
- 8:40Speaker 2: to unveil something different and something new if it works
- 8:43Speaker 2: or not. Yeah, so yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they couldn't keep banging their head against the wall
- 8:48Speaker 1: with what they had been doing, that's for sure, right, And.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I hope for the Eagle's sake that they don't that
- 8:56Speaker 2: they see what Greg saw, they see what me and Adams,
- 8:58Speaker 2: so that they don't just this film and burn it
- 9:01Speaker 2: because the end result was nineteen points five turnovers, floridaceptions.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I hope. I'm sure because because this is how coaches are,
- 9:11Speaker 2: you know, programmed anyway, I'm sure they're going to see
- 9:15Speaker 2: that they actually made some strides and if they can
- 9:18Speaker 2: continue to work off that. Plus you got he had
- 9:21Speaker 2: the Raiders coming up right, that there might be a
- 9:25Speaker 2: glimmer of hope for this team. Now we're not talking
- 9:27Speaker 2: about you know all, they're gonna haveverage forty points for
- 9:30Speaker 2: here on out and some magic fix. There is no
- 9:34Speaker 2: magic fix. They are what they are. But can they
- 9:36Speaker 2: get better incrementally over the next four or five weeks
- 9:39Speaker 2: as the defense continues to get better and play well
- 9:42Speaker 2: and not have to look at it as it looked
- 9:45Speaker 2: against Chicago and then all of a sudden in a
- 9:47Speaker 2: wide open NFL, you feel better about that?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Well? I guess the question I would ask Jeff Mosher
- 9:52Speaker 1: Inside the Birds Podcast, Inside the Birds dot Com Football
- 9:55Speaker 1: at four here is okay, we can't keep banging our
- 9:59Speaker 1: head in the wall. Doing what we had been doing.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It wasn't working. But did you did that? Did you
- 10:03Speaker 1: do that to cover up for your deficiencies? And now
- 10:07Speaker 1: that you're not doing it, your deficiencies are now becoming apparent.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You mean talking about turning the ball over like.
- 10:16Speaker 1: They We ran this offense because of our limitations in
- 10:22Speaker 1: certain areas. Aka our quarterback. You know, we love the guy.
- 10:26Speaker 1: He won us a super Bowl. He's a winner, but
- 10:28Speaker 1: he has limitations. We've been running this offense to cover
- 10:32Speaker 1: those limitations. Well, now teams are saying, you're not doing
- 10:35Speaker 1: that anymore. You gotta do something else. And now we're
- 10:38Speaker 1: trying to do something else. And the end result was
- 10:41Speaker 1: for interceptions.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's the fifty thousand dollars question. I
- 10:45Speaker 2: think you and I and most rational people believe if
- 10:49Speaker 2: the Eagles played the Chargers ten times over the next
- 10:52Speaker 2: you know, for over seventy days, right, one hundred days,
- 10:56Speaker 2: that Jill Hurts would not throw for interceptions in the game.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I mean, it's just not what he ordinarily does. Now,
- 11:03Speaker 2: would he throw more interceptions than he typically does because
- 11:07Speaker 2: of what they're doing? Maybe? But do you but is
- 11:10Speaker 2: the byproduct of it that yeah, you might throw an
- 11:13Speaker 2: interception or two, but you also get him to throw
- 11:16Speaker 2: for three point fifty and four touchdowns more and that
- 11:18Speaker 2: helps open up your run game. And then you look
- 11:21Speaker 2: at sayah even Mahomes, even Allen. I mean, these guys
- 11:23Speaker 2: will throw an interception here and there as well, but
- 11:26Speaker 2: you'll trade it for the five or six or seven
- 11:29Speaker 2: explosive plays you may get in return. That is, to
- 11:32Speaker 2: me what needs to be learned here. I mean, I
- 11:35Speaker 2: don't think Jale Hurt's ever going to be like a
- 11:38Speaker 2: totally different quarterback. I think there's always going to be
- 11:40Speaker 2: times no matter what they do, where he just doesn't
- 11:43Speaker 2: see the field, he doesn't use every plate of grass.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But if you can get him playing twenty five percent better,
- 11:51Speaker 2: I mean, that's maybe all you need. Just get it
- 11:53Speaker 2: back to last year and if it helps again, if
- 11:55Speaker 2: it all helps the run game, because you get some
- 11:57Speaker 2: people not coming down your back, coming downhill all the
- 12:01Speaker 2: time against this offensive line, I would say in other years, Mike,
- 12:06Speaker 2: you throw it out the window. But it's a pretty
- 12:08Speaker 2: wide open NFL this year, so it gives them a
- 12:10Speaker 2: fighting chance. I know, it's about it's a ton of hits, Mike,
- 12:13Speaker 2: but we could just also figure for twenty minutes and
- 12:15Speaker 2: talk about how bad peoples are.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, well, this is this is essentially then what
- 12:19Speaker 1: you're saying. It almost feels like a kin to changing
- 12:22Speaker 1: the coordinator. Instead of changing the coordinator, you're just changing
- 12:25Speaker 1: the philosophy.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I mean, some people might say you're just rearranging the
- 12:29Speaker 2: furniture on the Titanic, and that might be the case.
- 12:32Speaker 2: The point is we won't know until they continue to try,
- 12:36Speaker 2: and I think at this point we reached the level
- 12:39Speaker 2: where they do need to try to do these things.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And just because one game there were some negatives, you
- 12:47Speaker 2: can't ignore the positives. The Throne of Devonte Smith. The
- 12:50Speaker 2: twenty eight yard throw was the best throw I may
- 12:54Speaker 2: have ever seen Jalen Hurts make. That is not one
- 12:57Speaker 2: of those fifty yards downfield you know, over the shoulder type,
- 13:00Speaker 2: which is really good at But that was an unbelievable
- 13:03Speaker 2: throw and a great past game concept that they just
- 13:06Speaker 2: haven't used that much. So you can't ignore the positive.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Hey, listen, there's a lot again. He makes that throw
- 13:13Speaker 1: to aj Brown. It's a dime, it's on the money,
- 13:16Speaker 1: It's right where it needs to be. This isn't like
- 13:18Speaker 1: Jalen Hurch stinks and he can't make these throws. He
- 13:21Speaker 1: shows you that he can make the throws. I guess
- 13:23Speaker 1: the question is can he be the guy that makes
- 13:25Speaker 1: that throw.
- 13:26Speaker 2: All the time?
- 13:27Speaker 1: I say all the time. You know, hyperbole, but you
- 13:30Speaker 1: know that that's what he's known for.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Hey, I think the goal is try to make that
- 13:36Speaker 2: throw twenty five percent more than you've been making it
- 13:40Speaker 2: and work from there. You're right, it's not gonna be.
- 13:42Speaker 2: He's not going to turn into you know, Joe Burrow overnight.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And I mean that as pocket passer who wins PRESNAB.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I'm not trying to, like, you know, make too many
- 13:52Speaker 2: comparisons because people get all up in arms about how
- 13:54Speaker 2: Burrow's never won anything and what am I an idiot?
- 13:56Speaker 2: But my point, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Like wave conversation last night in our text group, someone says,
- 14:01Speaker 1: that's what a franchise quarterback is Herbert, I said, last
- 14:04Speaker 1: time I checked, he's zero and two in the playoffs.
- 14:05Speaker 1: He hasn't won a playoff game ever.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Right, People get all wrapped up in that. I'm just saying,
- 14:10Speaker 2: like he's never I don't think ever going to be
- 14:14Speaker 2: this guy who's gonna carve you up, no matter what
- 14:16Speaker 2: defense you're playing, no matter who you're dropping for your base.
- 14:19Speaker 2: That's not his game, and that's okay. But if he's
- 14:22Speaker 2: twenty five percent better than what he's been this year
- 14:25Speaker 2: and lately, that's a step in the right direction, especially
- 14:28Speaker 2: if your defense is going to continue to play well.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Well. The defense was excellent last night. There's not a
- 14:33Speaker 1: whole heck a lot to talk about with them. I thought,
- 14:35Speaker 1: you know that they picked it up a notch without
- 14:38Speaker 1: Jalen Carter. I thought Byron young Man, I thought he
- 14:40Speaker 1: had a great year. I thought Jordan Davis played maybe
- 14:42Speaker 1: the best game that he's ever played. I mean, he
- 14:44Speaker 1: was It was all over the place last night. Jalen
- 14:47Speaker 1: Phillips had a good game, you know, yeah, everybody. I mean,
- 14:50Speaker 1: their defense was excellent, but the offense, Holy mackerel. That
- 14:53Speaker 1: was tough to watch a time it was tough to watch.
- 14:55Speaker 1: The big thing is, okay, the lack of urgency to
- 15:01Speaker 1: use your legs. You know, I'm not saying Justin Herbert
- 15:05Speaker 1: is like some world class athletes. He's a good athlete.
- 15:08Speaker 1: He can move, but he takes great spots and he
- 15:12Speaker 1: led them in rushing last night and all of his
- 15:14Speaker 1: runs killed you, like every single ones for a first down.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And Jalen seems like he is just unwilling to rebring
- 15:22Speaker 1: that back into his game.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not. You know, the QB run is something
- 15:28Speaker 2: now that they used once or twice. I felt like
- 15:31Speaker 2: I couldn't tell he tried one last night. I couldn't
- 15:33Speaker 2: tell if it was an intentional fake QB draw and
- 15:37Speaker 2: then he tried to pull the trigger but it wasn't there,
- 15:39Speaker 2: or if he just noticed that they were stunting in
- 15:43Speaker 2: the middle and that there wouldn't be any lane to run.
- 15:47Speaker 2: But that really that and just a few drifts out
- 15:50Speaker 2: of the pocket. Yeah, he's really not running the way
- 15:52Speaker 2: Herbert does.
- 15:53Speaker 1: But you know what you know backbreakers, back breakers, Yes,
- 15:56Speaker 1: the backbreakers, but they're also handbreakers.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And and he's been like Justin Herberts miss way more
- 16:01Speaker 2: games over the last three years than Talalen Hurts has.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You see the irony here. I was talking about this yesterday.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Most you play to a level because you've used your
- 16:10Speaker 1: legs to get paid, and then once you get paid,
- 16:12Speaker 1: you no longer play to the level that you played
- 16:16Speaker 1: at When that got you.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Paid because you want to get paid. You want to
- 16:21Speaker 2: be alive to get paid again. But I don't I
- 16:24Speaker 2: think it's coincidental, right, because you get paid usually after
- 16:27Speaker 2: three or four years, but also as a quarterback, by
- 16:29Speaker 2: year three or four, you want to continue and accelerate
- 16:33Speaker 2: your growth as a passer almost all of the I
- 16:36Speaker 2: mean Lamar Jackson, that's him to a t He's a way,
- 16:40Speaker 2: way more refined passer now one of the best passes
- 16:44Speaker 2: in the league. Guts are being predominantly a runner for
- 16:46Speaker 2: three or four years. And I don't think the injuries
- 16:49Speaker 2: or the hits have anything to do with or I
- 16:50Speaker 2: think just quarterbacks want to be known for throwing the
- 16:53Speaker 2: ball more than running the ball. And yes, they don't
- 16:55Speaker 2: want to pay well as many brutal hits.
- 16:57Speaker 1: What do you make of like he says, if like
- 17:01Speaker 1: Troy Aikman was having a field day last night on
- 17:03Speaker 1: all the misses for Jalen last night, right, Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And they were there. I mean they stick out when
- 17:10Speaker 2: you're losing. There were mesh concepts, there were checkdowns that
- 17:15Speaker 2: he did not make. And that's why I'm telling you,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I'm not saying it was perfect last night. I'm just
- 17:20Speaker 2: saying there were growth in the passing offense because we
- 17:22Speaker 2: saw him make throws and we saw concepts that we
- 17:25Speaker 2: haven't seen before. But again, he's not going to be
- 17:28Speaker 2: a guy that you want dropping back forty times just
- 17:32Speaker 2: because you've now implemented these concepts and he's shown it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I mean, he's not going to be that guy ever,
- 17:38Speaker 2: But you're just trying to get him to be twenty
- 17:40Speaker 2: five percent better and then work than there if you can.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So you leave last night more encouraged or more like
- 17:47Speaker 1: this is a mess.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I don't know, because I'm more encouraged that they tried something.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm encouraged that he was able to really make some
- 17:56Speaker 2: nice passes off of these concepts. But you know, when
- 17:59Speaker 2: you're four or thirteen on third down, some of that stuff,
- 18:02Speaker 2: it's like one step forward, two steps backward. And I
- 18:05Speaker 2: really wasn't impressed with their run game, which continues to
- 18:09Speaker 2: really dog them, and you know, I'm afraid against that
- 18:14Speaker 2: we're gonna watch them play against the Rais and get
- 18:16Speaker 2: a false sense of potentially security if they play really
- 18:19Speaker 2: well against the Raiders because it's just the Raiders. So
- 18:22Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm conflicted, but I stand firm and
- 18:26Speaker 2: believing that the coaches did the right thing in trying
- 18:31Speaker 2: to advance this offense, and that there were glimmers of
- 18:34Speaker 2: hope there.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Fair enough, I would say we heard a couple of
- 18:38Speaker 1: years ago. Man, they're playing the Cardinals. They got to
- 18:41Speaker 1: get right, and they gave up thirty eight points in
- 18:43Speaker 1: that game.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, there's far more to gate. I'm sorry,
- 18:46Speaker 2: there's far more to lose in looking bad against the Raiders,
- 18:50Speaker 2: and there is the gate and looking good.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, exactly. And I'm telling you, I know everybody
- 18:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, the parallels are unbelievable. Now. I get it.
- 18:59Speaker 1: The defense on that team was the problem. This team,
- 19:01Speaker 1: it's the offense. It's the problem. But just the way
- 19:04Speaker 1: these games have gone, it's like, oh, well, you played
- 19:07Speaker 1: the Niners and they took your soul. When you lost
- 19:09Speaker 1: that game to the Cowboys up twenty one to nothing,
- 19:11Speaker 1: it almost feels like they took your soul in that
- 19:13Speaker 1: game because the next week he got waxed again by
- 19:16Speaker 1: the Bears. Much like when the Cowboys beat you, and
- 19:19Speaker 1: then you played that Monday night game in Seattle and
- 19:23Speaker 1: Hurt throws that interception to seal the game just like
- 19:26Speaker 1: last night. Well then it was well, you play the
- 19:28Speaker 1: Cardinals and it's like, this Raiders team is terrible, but
- 19:32Speaker 1: so was that Cardinals team, and they came in here
- 19:34Speaker 1: and whipped you. So we'll see if they whipped.
- 19:37Speaker 2: You they did. That Cardinals team wasn't good. This Raiders
- 19:42Speaker 2: team might be the worst team in the NFL, and
- 19:46Speaker 2: maybe by a lot. I mean, the Titans just won.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, the Titans just won in Cleveland, if
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken. The Saints pulled off an upset this
- 19:55Speaker 2: weekend as well. The Jets have won a few games now.
- 19:59Speaker 2: This Raiders team seems to get worse by the week,
- 20:02Speaker 2: and they are so banged up on the offensive line.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know that there's one thing that
- 20:09Speaker 2: you can say is a is an area of straight.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I mean, at least with the Browns you can Sims Garrett.
- 20:14Speaker 2: With the Titans, you can say Jeffery Simmons is playing
- 20:16Speaker 2: at a high level. I don't know what you say
- 20:19Speaker 2: about this Raiders team. It's bad.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they're bad, all right. Jeff Boucher and the Inside
