- 0:00Speaker 1: Gavin from Carlotone. We've got our first music video coming
- 0:06Speaker 1: out and it's called Nostalgia and we're really proud of it,
- 0:13Speaker 1: so really exciting for us.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Nice father, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Thank you my pleasure.
- 0:21Speaker 4: So you say break Calotone premiere you new song Nostalgia
- 0:25Speaker 4: this Tuesday, the twenty fifth of August.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So how you feeling about it are?
- 0:29Speaker 3: We're really stoked.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We've been waiting for it to come out for a
- 0:33Speaker 1: little while and yeah, we're just blown away that we
- 0:36Speaker 1: could get a lovely music video like this, and yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we're just really happy to show it to everyone and
- 0:43Speaker 1: for everyone to hear it for the first time as well.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Yeah, nice, So can you tell us a bit more
- 0:47Speaker 4: about the song from a musical point of view?
- 0:49Speaker 2: What are you're going for with it?
- 0:51Speaker 1: It's kind of came together over a little bit of
- 0:55Speaker 1: time because our vocalists ended up putting vocals to it
- 0:58Speaker 1: after it was written music. But yeah, it was just
- 1:02Speaker 1: a whole lot of amazing riffs and we chopped and
- 1:05Speaker 1: changed some things around and it just came together and
- 1:09Speaker 1: then our vocalists put this amazing vocal line too it.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We're just blowing away. So Yeah, it was a fantastic track.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and lyrically it's it goes a bit deeper and emotional.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Mate, can you can you run us through what the
- 1:23Speaker 2: song's actually about.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really it's about nostalgia.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's the name of the song.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Maybe finding hard to let go of what's in the past,
- 1:35Speaker 1: or you know, using it as a way to grow forward.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I guess that's everyone has their own nostalgia's in life.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And you know, when Tim was writing the lyrics for this,
- 1:45Speaker 1: it really hit hard for him. It was a longing
- 1:49Speaker 1: for something in the past, I think, and yeah, really
- 1:53Speaker 1: powerful lyrics from him, something that felt really deep with him.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 4: You mentioned it's your first music video, may so tell
- 2:03Speaker 4: us about the music video and how it relates to
- 2:05Speaker 4: the song.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 1: The music video, well, it's a bit of a journey.
- 2:12Speaker 1: So you know, we came across these guys who wanted
- 2:16Speaker 1: to make a music video and they loved our song Nostalgia,
- 2:19Speaker 1: so they jumped in with us and we kind of
- 2:21Speaker 1: gave them creative control with it and the storyline. It's
- 2:27Speaker 1: pretty obvious when you see what's going on in the story,
- 2:30Speaker 1: but the way they put it together, the way they
- 2:32Speaker 1: filmed it.
- 2:33Speaker 3: The way they.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Edited it, it's just fits beautifully with the music. They've
- 2:37Speaker 1: done a fantastic job. We're just really happy to have
- 2:41Speaker 1: been a part of that with them. And Yeah, it
- 2:45Speaker 1: turned out the way that we wanted it as well,
- 2:47Speaker 1: which is really rare.
- 2:51Speaker 4: The stops taken from your debut EP, Pathways, which came
- 2:54Speaker 4: out on June to Sick this year.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So how's a response to the.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we're still getting responses that a lot of people
- 3:03Speaker 1: really like it. Yeah, I mean, we put a heart
- 3:07Speaker 1: and soul into everything, and the recording is beautiful. It's
- 3:11Speaker 1: been mixed and masks really well, so we're really happy
- 3:15Speaker 1: with that. And yeah, we just put our souls out
- 3:19Speaker 1: on the line and everyone can listen to it and
- 3:21Speaker 1: get what they want from it, and hopefully there's gonna
- 3:25Speaker 1: be plenty more of that to come.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I think as a young band sort of coming through
- 3:30Speaker 4: the scene in the modern age, made like how do
- 3:32Speaker 4: you gauge your success of her release?
- 3:34Speaker 2: These days?
- 3:34Speaker 4: Like is it streams, is it comments, is it downloads?
- 3:39Speaker 2: How do you gauge it?
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the biggest question around, I think.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone's got their own judgments on what they think
- 3:49Speaker 1: is success. To us, success is doing what you want
- 3:52Speaker 1: to do and creating what you want to create and
- 3:55Speaker 1: the reward that comes with that. Once we put it
- 3:57Speaker 1: out there on the airwaves or on the street, I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's no longer ours anymore. It's for the listener. So
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, for us, it's success. It's as success as
- 4:07Speaker 1: it is. If people love it and take it on board,
- 4:10Speaker 1: then that's just another success along the road. But for us,
- 4:14Speaker 1: we've done what we wanted to do and and we
- 4:17Speaker 1: want to do it again and again and again. But
- 4:21Speaker 1: if everyone loves it, then that will help us keep
- 4:23Speaker 1: doing this.
- 4:24Speaker 4: So yeah, now Pathways features five songs, all lapping fleeen nostalgia.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So so there's only a few of them, Like, I
- 4:31Speaker 4: want to go through them individually and tell us a
- 4:33Speaker 4: bit more about the song and how it fits in
- 4:35Speaker 4: with Color Changed Sounds.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So firstly, you've got Signs.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yes, Signs is it started off as a really melodic,
- 4:47Speaker 1: even a jazzy vibe to it, and that that song
- 4:52Speaker 1: kind of builds and drops and builds and drops and
- 4:55Speaker 1: really emotional sort of approach. We we we kind of
- 5:00Speaker 1: saw a bit of a progressive approach for some of
- 5:04Speaker 1: our tracks and then we like a real hard hitting
- 5:06Speaker 1: approach as well. So my background and the other guy's
- 5:10Speaker 1: backgrounds are all over the show, so we try and
- 5:12Speaker 1: get all elements into all the music and that's what
- 5:16Speaker 1: you get. And Signs is just a combination of everyone's
- 5:20Speaker 1: ideas which works really well.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Very cool. Then you've got Chosen Ones.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Chosen Ones is very special. It's a song that
- 5:32Speaker 1: I wrote with the bass player well before the vocalists
- 5:35Speaker 1: and even the drummer came along.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And I.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Butchered it, which I thought I butchered it, but I
- 5:46Speaker 1: came in with this idea of ending and it became,
- 5:49Speaker 1: you know, the whole song shifts halfway through and everyone
- 5:52Speaker 1: loved it, and I thought I butchered it, And yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it worked really well, and the vocal line that came
- 5:58Speaker 1: with it was beautiful, and yeah, we're we're very stoked
- 6:00Speaker 1: with that song in the end. But it's funny how
- 6:03Speaker 1: you you know, you don't know what you got until
- 6:07Speaker 1: much further down the track and you can look at
- 6:09Speaker 1: it from another perspective.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Nice.
- 6:12Speaker 4: So then you've got fire Starter, and I'm guessing it's
- 6:15Speaker 4: not a cover of the Prodigy song.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, No, fire Starter is very much like talking about
- 6:24Speaker 1: Tim's muse and his inspiration for writing music and being
- 6:29Speaker 1: a creative. So, you know, music'ss fire starter gets some going,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and that song is just pumping. It's kind of like
- 6:37Speaker 1: how one of our main songs we do to finish
- 6:39Speaker 1: a gig or start a gig. Yeah, it's a fantastic trait.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You've got to listen to that if you haven't heard that, Yeah, read.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And then you've got ghosts inside my shell.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, okay that one.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, we were kind of thinking this is a bit
- 6:56Speaker 1: poppy rock when we're writing it and when it's answer ourselves,
- 7:01Speaker 1: so you know, you get caught up in this approach
- 7:05Speaker 1: of writing a certain style and we just like the
- 7:08Speaker 1: creative process takes you down many rabbit holes. So we
- 7:11Speaker 1: just kind of let this one go and it did
- 7:14Speaker 1: what it did, and it became a bit of a
- 7:17Speaker 1: softer song for us. But yeah, a little more accessible
- 7:22Speaker 1: to people that more less metal orientated and more rock orientated,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I guess. But yeah, a beautiful song I think, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: you know it kind of shows a different side to Carlotone.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool.
- 7:36Speaker 4: And then so what sort of lessons do you think
- 7:38Speaker 4: you guys learned as a band from doing his debut
- 7:41Speaker 4: app they're going to carry into your next release.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, lessons would be.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I think the biggest lesson is trusting the process of
- 7:50Speaker 1: everyone's capacity and their vision as well, like sometimes you
- 7:55Speaker 1: have to let go or the rains and let someone
- 7:58Speaker 1: else take the rains and trust what they're going to
- 8:00Speaker 1: do is the right thing. So yeah, the next album
- 8:05Speaker 1: EP we're going to do, which we've already written quite.
- 8:08Speaker 3: A few songs for.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Anyway, there's been all four of us writing at the
- 8:11Speaker 1: same time in the room together and whereas Pathways was
- 8:17Speaker 1: a combination of all like you know, written before a
- 8:20Speaker 1: drum or, written before the vocalist came or kind of
- 8:23Speaker 1: written together. So this new lot of writing is going
- 8:27Speaker 1: to be really a whole new dynamic because it's all
- 8:30Speaker 1: four of us putting input at once. And I think
- 8:32Speaker 1: that's a massive thing that we've learned from the previous
- 8:35Speaker 1: one is it becomes more authentic Carlotone than although the
- 8:40Speaker 1: other one is Carlotone, but you know, you just get
- 8:42Speaker 1: to know your craft more and more.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Any shows coming up to promote.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The singer, Yes, so we're doing Rock Is Not Dead
- 8:49Speaker 1: three down in Melbourne this coming Saturday.
- 8:53Speaker 3: So that's going to be our big our biggest gig
- 8:57Speaker 3: for a while.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And yeah, we've got a few I think we're other
- 9:00Speaker 1: thing coming up September, but yeah, we're on well I'm
- 9:04Speaker 1: on the road anyway, the boys are flying down. I
- 9:06Speaker 1: got the gear in the car, the straw. Yeah, well
- 9:11Speaker 1: I turned it into a business trip as well. But yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 1: so this gig should be really fun. Rock is not dead.
- 9:17Speaker 1: We joined the first one, I know, the second one
- 9:20Speaker 1: last year and that was a lot of fun.
- 9:22Speaker 3: So this one's down in Melbourne, and.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we haven't played down in Melbourne, we haven't played
- 9:27Speaker 1: out of state yet, so it should be awesome to
- 9:30Speaker 1: get down and meet a whole lot of new people
- 9:32Speaker 1: and see if people like us down in Melbourne.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yes, where's the best place for people to keep up
- 9:38Speaker 4: to date with cartoon and find out what was going on?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yes, social media is always the way. Our Instagram, Facebook, TikTok,
- 9:46Speaker 1: we have our in a circle.
- 9:48Speaker 3: We can join our mailing list.
- 9:49Speaker 1: That's probably the best place to get the early bird stuff.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And yeah, you just follow us on there and take
- 9:58Speaker 1: that to our link tree or on website.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's not hard to find us.
- 10:04Speaker 2: That's beautiful, right everyone, thanks very much for your time.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Wrote the track.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Nostalgia is out Tuesday, August twenty fifth, Best of Luck
- 10:12Speaker 4: with a mate and I'm fun down in Melbourne.
