Transcript
- 0:22SPEAKER_08: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department podcast.
- 0:27SPEAKER_08: I am your host, Sean Boyle, and we're going five wide tonight, folks.
- 0:30SPEAKER_08: We've got quite the crew assembled for an important draft.
- 0:34SPEAKER_08: We're doing all things college football.
- 0:36SPEAKER_08: Let me introduce the guests.
- 0:37SPEAKER_08: First of all, we have Mr.
- 0:38SPEAKER_08: Jeffrey Josewski.
- 0:40SPEAKER_08: Jeff, how are you?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I'm doing well.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: We're going five wide, which is the antithesis of Jake Myers' offense in NCAA football.
- 0:47SPEAKER_08: Next up, we have the pride of Indiana, Mr.
- 0:49SPEAKER_08: Joe Zweible.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: Joe, how are you?
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: I'm doing pretty well, even though I wouldn't quite say that I'm the most prideful of the state of Indiana.
- 0:57SPEAKER_05: But I guess I have a national title to my name now.
- 1:01SPEAKER_08: You do, yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_08: You do.
- 1:03SPEAKER_08: You could claim that.
- 1:03SPEAKER_08: You can directly.
- 1:05SPEAKER_08: We also have a recurring guest.
- 1:06SPEAKER_08: He was on the program last week.
- 1:08SPEAKER_08: He's back again.
- 1:09SPEAKER_08: It is the host of the Get Back Coach Podcast, Mr.
- 1:11SPEAKER_08: Jake Myers.
- 1:12SPEAKER_08: Jake, how are you doing?
- 1:13SPEAKER_07: Listen, Sean, we're doing well.
- 1:15SPEAKER_07: Week zero is wrapping up.
- 1:17SPEAKER_07: College football is going to be in full swing coming up soon.
- 1:21SPEAKER_07: So we're feeling real good.
- 1:23SPEAKER_07: Real good.
- 1:24SPEAKER_08: That's the kind of enthusiasm I'm looking for, Jake.
- 1:26SPEAKER_08: Well done by you.
- 1:27SPEAKER_08: And last but certainly not least, a godfather of the podcast, Mr.
- 1:31SPEAKER_08: Michael Collins, MC.
- 1:32SPEAKER_08: How are you?
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: Sean, simply could not be better.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: We have a full five-man officiating crew tonight.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Sean Boyle's running the back, Joe.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: So we're in for a treat tonight.
- 1:42SPEAKER_08: I don't have much experience in that regard.
- 1:44SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna hope to keep it clean and fair.
- 1:46SPEAKER_08: We just want all punches to be above the waist.
- 1:48SPEAKER_08: Folks, we are doing a college football draft, as I mentioned, as you can tell from the episode title.
- 1:53SPEAKER_08: This one has some categories, it has some specificities that we have to get into.
- 1:57SPEAKER_08: We have to lay the groundwork so you guys understand what we're up to.
- 2:00SPEAKER_08: The rules are pretty simple.
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: I think we haven't had any pre-match dialogue yet, but there may be some bumps in the road.
- 2:07SPEAKER_08: We'll see.
- 2:08SPEAKER_08: You have to take one of each of the following five categories.
- 2:11SPEAKER_08: So you have to take a tradition unique to college football, you have to take a tailgating experience, a mascot, a jersey, which means all jerseys from a university, and then a stadium.
- 2:23SPEAKER_08: So each of us have to fulfill those five categories.
- 2:26SPEAKER_08: I'm sure there will be some questions as we go along, but does anybody have anything off the top?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: No, I just want to confirm that you can take the same school in multiple categories if you so choose.
- 2:37SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 2:38SPEAKER_08: I I do think that could hurt you on the graphic if you become a little, you know, one trick pony like, but you are able to take anything at your own discretion.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: Really, as long as it fits in the parameters of that category, it's up for grabs.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Sounds like he's geared up to be a homer, even.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: Not not my guy, not Jeff.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: Are we going to stick with the rule of the not picking the homer, the team you grew for, or is that all open?
- 3:04SPEAKER_08: I think you can if you want to.
- 3:06SPEAKER_08: It's you could take it if you want to take your home school, you can.
- 3:09SPEAKER_08: You might get chirped.
- 3:10SPEAKER_08: That's all fair and love and war.
- 3:12SPEAKER_08: But I do think we would be remiss not to allow one school in particular.
- 3:16SPEAKER_08: If it didn't show up on the graphic, I think we'd hear some feedback.
- 3:19SPEAKER_08: So I think we might need to allow that and then deal with the repercussions after.
- 3:23SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 3:23SPEAKER_08: So the draft order, we've got Jake leading things off, followed by Joe, then Jeff, then myself, and then Mr.
- 3:31SPEAKER_08: Michael Collins rounding out our five.
- 3:34SPEAKER_08: I'm interested to see where this first pick goes.
- 3:37SPEAKER_08: I don't know what categories are going to be valued.
- 3:39SPEAKER_08: I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants.
- 3:41SPEAKER_08: I will once again say this feels a little bit like the video games draft.
- 3:44SPEAKER_08: I do feel like I'm showing up to a gunfight with a little pocket knife.
- 3:49SPEAKER_08: So we'll see.
- 3:50SPEAKER_08: That might be a cover.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: You could say call what you want, but I just want to bring that up.
- 3:54SPEAKER_08: I might have forgot my weapon.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: Well, Sean, good thing, as always, good thing every member of your extended family listens to the podcast.
- 4:02SPEAKER_08: So, you know, as always, you have your built-in, uh you have your built-in bonus coming from a coming from a guy that has quite literally the biggest family in the United States of America.
- 4:12SPEAKER_08: Everybody's a cousin of Joe Zweibel.
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: Only problem is half of them vote for me.
- 4:16SPEAKER_08: That is the problem.
- 4:17SPEAKER_07: You're in the two family vote for it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_08: Also true.
- 4:19SPEAKER_08: You're a made man.
- 4:20SPEAKER_08: I think it's a good time to start.
- 4:21SPEAKER_08: So, Jake, lead us off.
- 4:23SPEAKER_07: All right, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_07: First pick.
- 4:25SPEAKER_07: The thing is with this draft, like, what is everyone weighted?
- 4:29SPEAKER_07: You know, like what do people think is most important?
- 4:32SPEAKER_07: For me, it's a fantastic stadium and atmosphere.
- 4:36SPEAKER_07: And I am gonna go with after talking to numerous amounts of people, a plethora of different people from all walks of life, the best stadium in college football is Tiger Stadium down there in LSU.
- 4:50SPEAKER_07: So I want to get the best stadium possible.
- 4:54SPEAKER_07: I'm going with Tiger Stadium, great atmosphere, 95,000 Cajuns screaming their head off.
- 5:02SPEAKER_07: Uh, they got the double goal goal posts, cool midfield logo.
- 5:07SPEAKER_07: Tiger Stadium number one.
- 5:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think it's important to get some of that school on your board.
- 5:13SPEAKER_08: I think they're gonna be uh frequent flyer in this draft.
- 5:16SPEAKER_08: And I also Jake, in terms of the stadium, I love that they do every five yards.
- 5:21SPEAKER_08: I love that little feature.
- 5:22SPEAKER_08: I like the outline on the yards.
- 5:24SPEAKER_08: Death Valley at night, I mean, it doesn't get much better.
- 5:27SPEAKER_08: I think that's a very good first pick.
- 5:30unknown: Thank you.
- 5:30SPEAKER_07: And I'm sure may have surprised some people that I took that first.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I I was a little surprised.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: You know, you gotta love the five yards.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: It is really hard to count, especially if you try to do it in 10.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: So respect to them for that.
- 5:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that's a lot of math.
- 5:43SPEAKER_07: That's a lot of math for those people.
- 5:45SPEAKER_05: Has the Mansfield tour been there or no?
- 5:48SPEAKER_07: No.
- 5:49SPEAKER_07: So our thing with LSU is it has to be a perfect storm year.
- 5:54SPEAKER_07: We don't want to go where it's a you know, we get a noon kick or a 330 kick.
- 6:01SPEAKER_07: Like we want to go when LSU is at its height, so we're kind of holding in our back pocket.
- 6:07SPEAKER_07: Plus, it's not really a cheap trip either.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: You don't just take the mecha willy-nilly Joe.
- 6:12SPEAKER_08: You have to wait for the right year.
- 6:13SPEAKER_08: That has to be that's a proper journey, yeah.
- 6:16SPEAKER_05: I'm I just just making sure the boys are well traveled.
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: The boys from Nansfield are well traveled.
- 6:21SPEAKER_08: They are they are well traveled.
- 6:23SPEAKER_08: Anybody have any counterpoints to that being a good pick?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Uh honestly, I don't think there's a counterpoint to anything in this draft being a good pick.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, anything that somebody takes and be like, no, great.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good pick.
- 6:34SPEAKER_08: That's I like that.
- 6:35SPEAKER_08: It's Planet Fitness, judgment free zone.
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: Alrighty.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: Well, I was I said in in in the text chat that I had a 1-1, and the more I thought about it, I had a top two, and then really beyond that, I didn't really know.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: And Jake probably took my number two.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: For me, I gotta go stadium and I gotta go with the Rose Bowl.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I mean it is that hurt my feelings.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: It it a hundred percent is not just one of the most iconic stadiums in college football, but I think in American sports, if we're talking scenic, uh, you know, if we're talking scenes, Pasadena, the sunset.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: Sometimes we got the postseason, sometimes we have obviously some UCLA whenever they're relevant, but it is I have obviously the the way that the the stadium goes down in in the playoffs or or in the playoffs and in the bowl game for two different with both fan bases.
- 7:29SPEAKER_05: I mean, I don't know if there's a more iconic football stadium than the Rose Bowl.
- 7:35SPEAKER_05: So I'm gonna go with that.
- 7:36unknown: Yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was it was my top stadium.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I was going to take it next or if I was gonna try to wait.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: But as far as the UCLA part, it would be a real shame if a Once Proud program went in there mid-year and absolutely torched their season.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Would be a real shame.
- 7:54SPEAKER_08: I think, Joe, that I think that's a really good, it's an iconic venue.
- 7:58SPEAKER_08: You hear Rose Bowl, the name itself pops.
- 8:00SPEAKER_08: Like you mentioned, the imagery when you just picture it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_08: Has anybody ever once heard Rose Bowl and thought rain clouds?
- 8:05SPEAKER_08: No.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: You're picturing sunny blue skies, jerseys that pop.
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: Now, I will say maybe a bit of a candy-ass brand of football that comes along with the territory.
- 8:15SPEAKER_08: You don't think hard-earned yards, three yards in a cloud of dust, but in terms of just college football venues, that's I mean, that's a first-round grade for sure.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's it's more venue than product, but it's you know, the host of the granddaddy of them all.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: It's got the backdrop.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: It's absolutely a first round grade.
- 8:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, 100%.
- 8:33SPEAKER_08: It has its own parade, the parade of roses.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: I mean, it sells itself.
- 8:36SPEAKER_08: So good job, Joe.
- 8:38SPEAKER_08: I think I think those are two two good ones.
- 8:40SPEAKER_08: Interesting that we're seeing stadium trend early.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna end that trend here.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Um, it's not that I don't want to do this because this is the correct pick, but me being the the sicko that I am, I kind of want to go with some less normy stuff, but I'm taking the Oregon uniforms.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I mean there's there's just no the think of any color combination, whether it's Oregon or not, they got it, brother.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna put them together with wings on the helmet.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: We're gonna fly our way up and down the field.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have Darren Thomas and Dennis Dixon and D'Anthony Thomas and everybody you can think of that runs a 4240 flying up and down that sideline.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: We're going Oregon uniform, shout out LaMichael James, shout out Legarrett Blanc.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: I mean, they don't miss.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: They don't miss.
- 9:28SPEAKER_05: There, there's whether it's super modern stuff, the throwbacks, I mean, it's just straight bangers.
- 9:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it it not only is Nike their, that's their flagship program because of Phil Knight, it it's also their color combination pops, and then the bill of that mallard.
- 9:46SPEAKER_08: I don't want to tip picks because mascots is a category, but that bill of the mallard pops every once in a while when you get some of those combinations, and boy oh boy.
- 9:54SPEAKER_08: Now I will say they do lose themselves once in a while, Jeff.
- 9:58SPEAKER_08: The good thing for you is they have so many different answers.
- 10:01SPEAKER_08: I can I can throw those away.
- 10:02SPEAKER_08: Yep, exactly.
- 10:03SPEAKER_08: You could just disappear.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: It's like when Jake tried to take all 450 Mario uh games and was like, yeah, let's just throw all the bad ones.
- 10:10SPEAKER_07: I was originally entitled to those.
- 10:12SPEAKER_08: He said one word Mario.
- 10:14SPEAKER_08: I got them all.
- 10:14SPEAKER_08: That was insane.
- 10:16SPEAKER_08: No, I I really, I really think that if Oregon jerseys didn't go as the first jersey off the board, it would have been a surprise to me.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I would have been lying to myself.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Are there other cool ones that I want to talk about?
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, but it's one-one.
- 10:29SPEAKER_08: I I'm taking us in a completely different direction here.
- 10:32SPEAKER_08: And this one, you could say reach, but here's my reasoning for the pick.
- 10:37SPEAKER_08: I'm going to take my tailgating atmosphere, and I'm going to take my talents to Husky Harbor on Lake Washington.
- 10:46SPEAKER_08: We are gonna sailgate.
- 10:48SPEAKER_08: We're gonna sailgate.
- 10:49SPEAKER_08: And here's why, folks, everybody tailgates the same way.
- 10:53SPEAKER_08: You park your car, you eat good food, you have a good time.
- 10:56SPEAKER_08: Not not in Washington.
- 10:58SPEAKER_08: I want some variety, I want a little bit of a different touch, and I think these folks do it incredibly well.
- 11:04SPEAKER_08: They they sailgate, they bring their boats to the game, they have a party, it seems like a great atmosphere.
- 11:10SPEAKER_08: They also have the land element, they'll get you by land or sea.
- 11:13SPEAKER_08: It it really seems to pop in the fall, too.
- 11:16SPEAKER_08: The water in the Pacific Northwest, it just looks appealing.
- 11:19SPEAKER_08: I've never been, I would love to go, but I just think in a in a space where I feel like there's a lot of similarities and it's just kind of comparing stories about where you had a good time or maybe some good food.
- 11:30SPEAKER_08: I think this is a very distinct, unique tailgating experience.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Respect the Pacific Northwest.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Good for you.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 11:37SPEAKER_07: It's probably yeah, it's the best.
- 11:39SPEAKER_07: I'll say this from what I've heard, the best sailgating experience is in Washington.
- 11:47SPEAKER_07: Not not like that school south, the Mason Dixon line, and they're sailgating.
- 11:51SPEAKER_07: This, the sail gating in the Northwest at Washington Stadium or Husky Stadium is definitely the best.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: This 13-year vendetta against a fan base that yelled at him on Twitter once is one of my favorite side flies.
- 12:05SPEAKER_07: They sent me death threats.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: They said one time.
- 12:07SPEAKER_07: Come on.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Collins, it's over to you for two.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a good pick, Sean.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: I was actually I was thinking I might be able to get that later on, but that that's that's strong.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Incredibly unique experience out there.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: I think I'm gonna stick with you on the tailgating theme, and I'm actually gonna get even a little bit more specific because this is just uh it pertains to one uh specific matchup every year, and that is Georgia, Florida.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: It's been dubbed the world's largest outdoor cocktail party by many.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: Largely considered one of the best tailgating experiences that you could possibly uh attend.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Um, whether that be regardless of the location, a lot of times it'll wind up in Jacksonville, but whether it's at one of the home sites or not, you know, if it earns the name the world's largest outdoor cocktail party, that's gotta count for something.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: So that's where I'm gonna head.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I I I think this in the spirit counts, but that's a smuggle.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: That's a smuggle right off the bat from the fifth member of our five lines.
- 13:09SPEAKER_08: No, I mean we're getting multiple locations.
- 13:12SPEAKER_08: This is on the up and up, Collins.
- 13:14SPEAKER_08: I love I love what you did here.
- 13:16SPEAKER_08: I think it's a master stroke, if you will.
- 13:19SPEAKER_08: This was my this was my second tailgating.
- 13:21SPEAKER_08: You were right along the same lines.
- 13:22SPEAKER_08: I wanted Husky Harbor one, and I wanted a cocktail party two.
- 13:26SPEAKER_08: And can you believe if I told you that one of our friends, one of our good friends, a guest on this podcast, was roped into going to it once?
- 13:33SPEAKER_08: Mark Manera was roped into going.
- 13:36SPEAKER_08: It was almost as if he was dragged there.
- 13:39SPEAKER_08: He made it seem like it was such a chore to go to the best party on earth.
- 13:42SPEAKER_05: I think I think the only thing I want to put out there for our two choices here.
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: I'm hearing sailing and I'm hearing cocktail parties.
- 13:51SPEAKER_05: Like Yeah, how about we tailgate crushers, dude?
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: What are we what are we doing?
- 13:56SPEAKER_05: Give me a couple of things.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: Please, you know what?
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: You should remember where you're from, brother.
- 14:08SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna be on that pavement in Lock K in just a week's time, ready to take down the Nittany Lions.
- 14:12SPEAKER_08: Damn right.
- 14:13SPEAKER_08: I didn't lose my roots.
- 14:14SPEAKER_08: I just want all mortality experiences, they are gonna be very similar.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: All right, Johnny Zinfendel.
- 14:21SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Once again, hey, once again, playing for the graphic and not playing and not playing with with his heart.
- 14:29SPEAKER_08: I can't I can't avoid an accusation on this podcast.
- 14:32SPEAKER_08: It's insane.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: It's insane.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Heavy as that.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: That's uh that's right, that's right.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: So stick it with me.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: Starting off the second round, I'm actually gonna head over to the uh tradition category, and we're gonna travel out to the Midwest to Kinnock Stadium at the University of Iowa.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Oh no, Michael, no.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: The only thing I like about this place.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: And we are taking the Hawkeye wave.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: So if you're unfamiliar, the University of Iowa Children's Hospital is sort of adjacent to Kinnock Stadium, uh and uh essentially overlooks the the stadium itself.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: And all University of Iowa fans, players, coaches, you name it, will uh turn around and give a nice friendly wave to uh to all the the pediatric patients at said hospital.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: So just a really heartfelt moment every home game and an incredible tradition for uh for years and years now in college football.
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: Talk about a pander.
- 15:30SPEAKER_07: I was gonna say, you're gonna talk about a pick that's gonna play on a graphic.
- 15:34SPEAKER_07: You want to talk panda?
- 15:35SPEAKER_07: Iowa wave is that pick.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: It's for the kids.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: It's for the kids.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Hold on, hold on.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Let me let me put a hand up here.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I want to put on the record that Sean Boyle and Jake Myers are not for the kids.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 15:47SPEAKER_08: It's a great pick, but the intention behind that pick was mischievous at best.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: It's the best tradition in college football.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: I stand with Collins.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: That was going to be my pick on the wraparound.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Who invited this guy to the podcast?
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Spoken like a father.
- 16:02SPEAKER_08: If you didn't take it, Collins, I was taking it right here.
- 16:06SPEAKER_08: It wasn't getting you, Jeff.
- 16:08SPEAKER_08: I was beating the pander even harder.
- 16:10SPEAKER_08: I don't think Collins hammered home just how important that wave is to those kids.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: The only way that it would be better if Kirk would be uh the man that he needs to be and let them call the plays because Brian couldn't do it, and whoever the guy they got in there now is struggling to.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: It can't be worse.
- 16:26SPEAKER_08: They should let the kids passes.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Tim Lester, Western Michigan.
- 16:29SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 16:30SPEAKER_07: There's gonna be some Iowa's offense looking better.
- 16:32SPEAKER_08: Anyway, it's not, folks.
- 16:34SPEAKER_08: This is an evergreen episode that's not looking better.
- 16:36SPEAKER_08: Iowa's offense, I can tell you, you can listen to this in 2042.
- 16:39SPEAKER_08: Iowa still can't throw the ball.
- 16:42SPEAKER_08: There's still those kids, they still can't throw the football.
- 16:47SPEAKER_08: That's a great pick.
- 16:48SPEAKER_08: It's it really is it's for sure the number one tradition I wrote down.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and in the category that I felt might uh be a little shallow, or or I should just say towards the towards the back end of the category, it might be getting more and more niche.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: That I'm I'm happy to get the one one the top top dog in there.
- 17:06SPEAKER_08: I really thought I was gonna get that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_08: I didn't think I didn't think you would go there.
- 17:10SPEAKER_08: And now I'm torn.
- 17:13SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna take this might be a little off the beaten path, but I'm comfortable doing it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna go jerseys, and I I I just respect their work, especially around one big central event that happens in their city.
- 17:27SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna go to Tulane and I love I love those Mardi Gras variations they roll out.
- 17:35SPEAKER_08: I think their color scheme to begin with is delightful.
- 17:38SPEAKER_08: The green wave is great.
- 17:39SPEAKER_08: I think they have a lot of combinations and they all scratch an itch for me.
- 17:44SPEAKER_08: I will say, I'll call it how I see it.
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: A little bit powder puff, a little bit candy ass.
- 17:49SPEAKER_08: They don't exactly scream we're gonna run the ball down your throat.
- 17:51SPEAKER_08: But similar to Oregon, they pop.
- 17:54SPEAKER_07: John, that I thought I could hold that in my back pocket until close to the end.
- 18:01SPEAKER_07: I really did.
- 18:02SPEAKER_07: So that's a fantastic pick.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: I I think it's interesting that that that the guy who's who's talking about, well, first off, I do I do agree, great pick.
- 18:12SPEAKER_05: But the guy who's you know now criticizing himself with maybe a little candy ass is is is the guy that also chose saying I'm wagging.
- 18:21SPEAKER_05: So I'm wagging.
- 18:22SPEAKER_05: It's very interesting.
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: Very interesting that that the guy who's talking about hardmouth, rough nose football, you know, just just interesting.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: Seems to be inconsistent.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: The best jerseys are candy ass.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: The best football is the traditional jerseys.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: That's why the Dolphins haven't won a playoff game since I was six.
- 18:41SPEAKER_08: Collins, I want to hear your point as well, because it sounded like it was going to be a bit of a chirp, so I'm interested in that.
- 18:46SPEAKER_08: I I do want to point out, listeners, if you guys can spy in any of these episodes that Joe Zweibel's been on, if there has been one pick of mine that he hasn't criticized, I'd love for you to clip it and send it my way.
- 18:57SPEAKER_08: Everything I do is incorrect.
- 19:00SPEAKER_08: So I love the pick.
- 19:01SPEAKER_08: Love the pick.
- 19:01SPEAKER_08: Love the pick.
- 19:02SPEAKER_08: Love the pick.
- 19:02SPEAKER_08: Blow me shit on it.
- 19:04SPEAKER_08: Fuck off.
- 19:04SPEAKER_08: How about that?
- 19:05SPEAKER_08: Every pick you pick here on out stinks.
- 19:07SPEAKER_08: I'm going in.
- 19:08SPEAKER_08: This is you've started war, is what that unfortunately it's gotten ugly.
- 19:11SPEAKER_08: And just no listeners, it wasn't my intention for it to be ugly.
- 19:14SPEAKER_08: Collins?
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't want to end up in the line of fire here either, but it it was certainly on my board.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: It was lowered down on my board.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: I guess it's just the traditionalist in me that that prefers some other.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: I thought that as an Irish Catholic, you might be going with it with on in a different way, but hey, you that's that's yours.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: If you want, I just I do want to drive home the candy ass aspect of this.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: You know, I can't wait.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: You guys are something else.
- 19:42SPEAKER_08: You really are.
- 19:44SPEAKER_08: I've been called a cheater, a panderer, anything else?
- 19:47SPEAKER_08: Over to you, Jeff.
- 19:48SPEAKER_08: Or Joe, who's up?
- 19:49SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna shorten the tailgate pool again here.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: I'm going to the Grove.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: We're going to Ole Miss.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're we're having Sandy Bullock walking through, bringing bringing LJ, the uh or whatever the kid's name was, who's the current uh athletic director at University of Louisiana Monroe.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Uh seems like just the the coolest possible place to tailgate.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: You know, those southern folks are getting after it.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're not worrying about our getting on our little sailboats with our our six-pack of surf sides and having an evening.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: We're we're we're we're bringing in the beer, we're bringing in the bulldozers, and we're heading into the grove.
- 20:26SPEAKER_07: So I have I have a rebuttal.
- 20:30SPEAKER_07: Oh, good.
- 20:31SPEAKER_07: So the grove, the grove was on my board.
- 20:35SPEAKER_07: However, I've heard from multiple people from the south that the grove is very, very corporate.
- 20:44SPEAKER_07: It's not your mom and pop like bringing the their you know, grilling and stuff like that.
- 20:51SPEAKER_07: It's I'm gonna hire this company to come in and bring a buffet down there.
- 20:59SPEAKER_07: Oh, the horror.
- 21:00SPEAKER_07: I'm just catering food?
- 21:02SPEAKER_07: I'm just saying that a catered, I mean catering, yeah, it's fine, but I don't know.
- 21:09SPEAKER_07: I the grove was knocked down a couple because Jake, it's ten acres.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: How many of those acres do you think the corporations got taken over?
- 21:17SPEAKER_07: Almost, I mean, if it's anything like half an acre, if it's anything like Alabama or Tennessee or South Carolina, almost all of it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, so so we're we're going based off speculation of a place you've never been to, based off something you read on the internet.
- 21:33SPEAKER_07: I've talked to people who have been there who are like it's kind of overrated.
- 21:38SPEAKER_07: I've talked to some of my SEC counterpart, my SEC uh research team.
- 21:44SPEAKER_07: I'm just saying the Grove is a little overrated.
- 21:47SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna show them capable of taking the higher road.
- 21:49SPEAKER_08: Jeff tried to do a little sale by cheap shot there in his in his monologue.
- 21:53SPEAKER_08: I did catch it, but I will say I think this is a good pick that deserves to be drafted in the tailgating experience.
- 21:59SPEAKER_08: I think.
- 22:00SPEAKER_08: You would look like fools if the Grove wasn't on the graphic.
- 22:02SPEAKER_08: So, Jeff, I'm gonna take the high road.
- 22:04SPEAKER_08: Just remember that.
- 22:05SPEAKER_08: Good pick by you.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: I respect that.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Tip of the cap.
- 22:09SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 22:11SPEAKER_05: For mine, I'm gonna be, I think, the first one to pick this.
- 22:15SPEAKER_05: And I don't know if this will be, I don't know how this will land with the boys, but I'm gonna go with mascot and I'm gonna go with Ralphie.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: You know, everybody loves the characters and the suits and all that, but talk about, you know, it's fall.
- 22:34SPEAKER_05: Fall is football.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: The air is brisk in Colorado, and you see a live buffalo running down the field.
- 22:42SPEAKER_05: I mean, I it doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
- 22:45unknown: Yeah.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's a good, it's a good pick.
- 22:48SPEAKER_07: Great pick.
- 22:48SPEAKER_07: I'll say it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: As an animal lover, you know, I don't I don't love that.
- 22:52SPEAKER_07: I think one of the few, one of the few female, one of the few female mascots as well that were that are live.
- 22:59SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 22:59SPEAKER_05: I was not aware of that, uh Jake.
- 23:01SPEAKER_05: But thanks.
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Keep keep giving us the great facts.
- 23:05SPEAKER_07: Ralphie's, yeah, Ralphie's a girl.
- 23:06SPEAKER_07: I made a mistake.
- 23:08SPEAKER_07: I put out a post last year, two years ago, about Ralphie, and I kept referring to it as a he, and a bunch of Colorado people were like, hey, it's a she.
- 23:18SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 23:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Ralphie.
- 23:20SPEAKER_08: Get the pronouns in order.
- 23:21SPEAKER_07: I like that.
- 23:22SPEAKER_07: Good for you, Ralph.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: Listen to a listen to the get back coach pod.
- 23:26SPEAKER_05: Love that.
- 23:27unknown: There you go.
- 23:27unknown: Yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 23:28SPEAKER_08: Thank you for the plug.
- 23:29SPEAKER_08: Let's keep let's keep it on this program for a sec.
- 23:32SPEAKER_08: I I do think, I do think that Ralphie is such a good pick that I can't chirp, and I was really hoping to chirp.
- 23:38SPEAKER_08: So I just want you can't chirp Ralphie.
- 23:41SPEAKER_08: And especially now knowing that it's a female, I would never think of it.
- 23:45SPEAKER_08: That's the Sean Boyle touch.
- 23:46SPEAKER_08: Male Ralphie, you might catch a stray.
- 23:49SPEAKER_08: Female Ralphie, princess.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: Especially as live mascots go Man of Honor.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: There's a few more, there's a few that are more mainstream, but they pale in comparison to Ralphie.
- 24:00SPEAKER_08: Is it me?
- 24:01SPEAKER_08: It is you, Jake.
- 24:02SPEAKER_08: It it's baffling to me how you never know.
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: It's hard to count.
- 24:07SPEAKER_05: It's hard to count.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: How many snake drafts were?
- 24:09SPEAKER_05: This has been decades, boys.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: This has been decades.
- 24:12SPEAKER_05: This is back to fantasy football.
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: This is this is back to 15 years old.
- 24:16SPEAKER_05: Like he's stunned every time.
- 24:18SPEAKER_05: Is it me?
- 24:19SPEAKER_07: Man, so this is tough on the direction that I want to go.
- 24:23SPEAKER_07: I think I'm gonna go for my first for so to round out the second round.
- 24:28SPEAKER_07: I think I'm gonna go to the tailgates.
- 24:30SPEAKER_07: And uh I kind of hate this because I'm doubling up, but I'm also gonna go LSU for tailgates.
- 24:38SPEAKER_07: Again, I talked to my southern correspondents.
- 24:41SPEAKER_07: LSU is uh probably the best tailgate atmosphere in the country.
- 24:47SPEAKER_07: Yes, they have that little central area where it's like catered, the wine and cheese people, but then you also have massive areas where people pull up their cars and they're cooking the gumbo or the jambalaya or whatever else they can stew up in there.
- 25:05SPEAKER_07: So give me the LSU tailgate for my second round pick.
- 25:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the thing that I think is probably the best part of the LSU tailgate.
- 25:12SPEAKER_08: I'm sure the experience is phenomenal.
- 25:13SPEAKER_08: I think the food, the Cajun food down there is what really entices me.
- 25:17SPEAKER_08: The jambalaya, the gumbo.
- 25:18SPEAKER_08: I can get in on all that.
- 25:20SPEAKER_08: And the only critique I would have would be that you doubled up on LSU, but it's it's such a strong school that I think if you're gonna double up on one, that's probably the school to do it.
- 25:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and again, I I don't love to do it, but hey, listen, Sean, and Jeff and Joe should know this for playing fantasy football with me for years.
- 25:39SPEAKER_07: I love the guy loves the stack.
- 25:42SPEAKER_07: I love that the wide receiver quarterback stack.
- 25:45SPEAKER_08: So I let him get the same team's kicker too.
- 25:48SPEAKER_08: He's there's there's a certain live mascot floating around that's calling your name.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: And I know Jake's most excited about the uh the tech tailgates where they bring in the Silicon Valley venture capitalists to uh to set up the tailgates in LSU.
- 26:01SPEAKER_07: There's some of that, but there's also the listen, I went down to Bama two years ago, LSU people shitting on Bama the entire time.
- 26:09SPEAKER_07: And then as I was talking to some of my other people, they're like, oh yeah, like LSU, that is the tailgate capital of the South.
- 26:16SPEAKER_07: So I want to go.
- 26:18SPEAKER_08: I'll tell you what, he hey you guys, we can say what we want.
- 26:20SPEAKER_08: Jake is doing boots on the ground research for this.
- 26:23SPEAKER_08: He is polling the people in his sources.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: No, he's not.
- 26:34SPEAKER_07: He's got the vote Sean, Sean, Sean, those people don't vote.
- 26:38SPEAKER_07: Come on.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: He's got the buyout locked up.
- 26:44SPEAKER_05: I think we might need to do a little check on this one to see if there's a get back coach, get get back coach vote, a C F I U Jake vote, uh, you know, Dean Meyers one, two, three vote.
- 26:56SPEAKER_07: You know he the he doesn't know how to work, he doesn't know what Instagram is.
- 27:01SPEAKER_07: Um all right, uh traditions.
- 27:04SPEAKER_07: Listen, it's the third round, folks.
- 27:07SPEAKER_07: It's the third round.
- 27:08SPEAKER_07: So I I've eluded not eluded, I've avoided being a homer for so long.
- 27:15SPEAKER_07: But we're in the third round, folks.
- 27:17SPEAKER_07: We're in the third round.
- 27:18SPEAKER_07: I have the most intimidating stadium in the country now for one of the most intimidating atmospheres in the country.
- 27:27SPEAKER_07: I'm going with the Penn State whiteout for for my next pick for traditions.
- 27:33SPEAKER_07: Again, I'm biased, but my again, I I had people and the people that I know from other other uh programs coming on up saying that it's one of the best in the country, that it's right up there with LSU when it's a whiteout.
- 27:52SPEAKER_07: Because listen, because let's be honest, and Jeff and Joe, you've been to games.
- 27:56SPEAKER_07: Listen, sometimes at noon, Beaver Stadium isn't that great, right?
- 28:00SPEAKER_07: Can we all like we could all admit that?
- 28:02SPEAKER_07: It's it's just not.
- 28:03SPEAKER_07: It's you know, the the student sections half full, but when it's a whiteout, you are guaranteed that atmosphere every single time.
- 28:10SPEAKER_07: So give me white out.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: I'm a little stunned that the the graduate got thrown into the hater with uh the Joe's Wi-Boy.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jeff and Joe, you guys have been there a couple of times.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I'll just say, like, you know, I'm I'm still getting over that thought.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Just say Joe's been to a few.
- 28:24SPEAKER_08: You mentioned the noon kicks, and I just want to clarify for the listeners, you've got Tiger Stadium.
- 28:28SPEAKER_08: You're taking the tradition of White Out.
- 28:30SPEAKER_07: Yes, I'm taking the tradition of White Out.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I said, I'm just glad the White Out's not for a noon kick this year.
- 28:37SPEAKER_07: Well, there that's that's why I was kind of a stinker for three or four years because they didn't want it to be at noon because Fox's big noon kick kind of steals the thunder away from someone.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, Minnesota's coming at 3.30.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Let's get the whiteout going.
- 28:52SPEAKER_08: Unnecessary ricochet shot at the Golden Gophers.
- 28:54SPEAKER_08: I will also say it seems crazy to me that Penn State's leadership made a poor decision.
- 29:00SPEAKER_08: That's shocking.
- 29:01SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go with uniforms and uh I am gonna critique here uh with it the Penn State whiteout because uh while the stadium does an amazing job of getting, you know, getting crazy and and being decked out all in white, I will never, ever, ever, ever understand why the team itself does not wear all white.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: I will never understand it.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Learn the rules, dude.
- 29:28SPEAKER_07: Because that's not what home teams wear.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: Uh well, speaking of, that's actually what I'm gonna choose for uniforms, and that is LSU's uniforms.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: Sean picked Tulane because of the NOLA because of the NOLA vibes, uh, and because they are, you know, super creative and and and yeah, I think do uh a testament to the culture.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: But if we talk about the the the purple, the yellow, the white, the classic, a team that wears white at home in in an unreal environment, I think you gotta go with the classic LSU Tigers.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Am I the only guy on this podcast that doesn't have an NIL deal from Wayne Kiffin?
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is getting out of control.
- 30:12SPEAKER_08: There's been a lot of lot of chatter about the bayou.
- 30:16SPEAKER_08: I do think, though, you could make a case that LSU deserves one of each of these categories picked.
- 30:21SPEAKER_08: So I do think the jerseys it helps when they have a flashy player or two as well.
- 30:26SPEAKER_08: Like that year with Burrow, something just popped with Jamar Chase and Jefferson running around in those jerseys.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: You're like, well, yeah, they were scoring 70 a game.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: They could have been wearing they could have been wearing uh tank tobs that would have looked sick.
- 30:39SPEAKER_08: No, but it's the purple and yellow, it's a good color combo, too.
- 30:42SPEAKER_08: It's a it's a strong pick.
- 30:44SPEAKER_07: Uniforms look better when you're kicking someone's ass.
- 30:47SPEAKER_05: There.
- 30:48SPEAKER_07: There it is.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: It makes them look faster though, too.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: It tricks you into Darius Geis and the like.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's impressive.
- 30:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's good.
- 30:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, no, I I really do enjoy LSU's jerseys.
- 31:02SPEAKER_08: The only critique would be the lack of variety.
- 31:04SPEAKER_08: They kind of just throw a fastball change up.
- 31:07SPEAKER_08: But when you throw a fastball that you can't touch, when you throw 104, you don't need an off-speed pitch, really.
- 31:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think that's that Sean was the one thing that made me hesitant to take them because I am more of an options guy.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: I like there are a couple that I cut from my board because while they are great and traditional, like you said, you gotta have a little bit of variety.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: And I think the the combinate, like I feel like there's enough combinations amongst the three between the whites.
- 31:32SPEAKER_05: They would do wear the yellows every now and like a yellow every now and again.
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: Obviously, it's primarily the purple, but I think there's some combinations to keep it fresh.
- 31:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 31:42SPEAKER_08: Unique color combinations go a long way too because uh what happens in jerseys is if you have similar, say you're all Nike schools and you have a similar color combination, your jerseys are gonna blend in with a bunch of other schools.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: So the purple and yellow does stand out.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree with that a hundred percent.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: I love red and blue.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: I wear lots of red and blue.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Everybody wears red and blue, so it's harder to stand out in that uh in that pool.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: This one's gonna hurt the this you will know is not pandering because it's gonna hurt every part of me to make this selection.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, but under tradition, I'm I'm going dot in the eye.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: It if you get kicked, if your school gets their ass kicked by a school enough times that you just constantly watch the eye being dotted and then are sad at the end, it does lose a little luster.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: But when you when you pull yourself back and it and and look at the way that they kick off the football game, getting the band out on the field.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: The band is a huge part of an atmosphere in in college athletics and college football in general.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: As far as traditions go, I I think it's at least a top three tradition, if not higher.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: And so that's that's where I'm going.
- 32:54SPEAKER_07: I think it's a fine pick.
- 32:55SPEAKER_07: I I think it's a I think there's better out there, but Jake.
- 32:59SPEAKER_05: That's the mile.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: I thought you were gonna I thought you were gonna murder him, Jake.
- 33:04SPEAKER_07: I listen, I I it's good.
- 33:07SPEAKER_07: I it's it's not it's not on my list.
- 33:09SPEAKER_07: It is not on my list.
- 33:11SPEAKER_07: Script oh, I think I will say this, maybe to help you out on the graphic.
- 33:15SPEAKER_07: I think script Ohio might pop better on the graphic than dot in the eye, but itself.
- 33:22SPEAKER_08: I don't think that, Jeff.
- 33:24SPEAKER_08: I will give you dotting the eye because I've never heard anybody call it script Ohio.
- 33:28SPEAKER_07: You've never heard script ohio now?
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna be able to do it.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: That's what his people from around the globe that come and talk to him about what picks he should make because he can't pick for himself.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: That's what they call it.
- 33:38SPEAKER_07: Listen, uh, it's research, okay?
- 33:41SPEAKER_07: It's not like I'm asking them to pick for me.
- 33:43SPEAKER_07: It's just you're giving me the information and then I'm doing it based on me.
- 33:48SPEAKER_08: Jake, I love it.
- 33:49SPEAKER_08: I I I commended you for it.
- 33:51SPEAKER_08: I will also say, if you want to tell them the like and subscribe, we will have a record episode because you've pulled the masses here.
- 33:58SPEAKER_08: So we're we we're in good shape.
- 34:01SPEAKER_08: I I think I'm up, right?
- 34:03SPEAKER_08: After Jeff.
- 34:04SPEAKER_08: I will.
- 34:05SPEAKER_08: This is Colin's mentioned the Irish Catholic in me.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: And I do think there's a tradition, it's rule number 76, if you're familiar with the certain movie.
- 34:13SPEAKER_08: But I think it's just tapping that play like a champion today sign.
- 34:16SPEAKER_08: That's iconic.
- 34:17SPEAKER_08: That is as iconic as it gets.
- 34:19SPEAKER_08: They sell those, you can put them in your home.
- 34:21SPEAKER_08: I'll tap one on my way to work.
- 34:23SPEAKER_08: Overall, it's a small thing, it's a little thing, but when you get that shot of them walking down the stairs in the locker room and hitting that metal on the way out, that's that's good stuff.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: It can be a shame when it's followed up by not playing like a champion.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: However, it is absolutely an iconic tradition.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: And the the the the camera shot straight down the staircase, gosh, you can't beat that.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, come on.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: No.
- 34:46SPEAKER_08: Also, moot movie Rudy.
- 34:48SPEAKER_08: Ever heard of it?
- 34:49SPEAKER_08: Pops.
- 34:50SPEAKER_08: I know Jeff hates Rudy.
- 34:51SPEAKER_08: He's a oh yeah.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: Incredible movie.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: Great movie.
- 34:58SPEAKER_07: Rudy Rudiger is an asshole.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: Imagine Montana putting his uniform down.
- 35:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 35:09SPEAKER_07: He wrote the movie.
- 35:11SPEAKER_07: That's that's another conversation.
- 35:12SPEAKER_08: Well, whatever the case may be, is that's a great tradition.
- 35:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_07: Sean, uh that is a tradition that I think is uh it transcends college football.
- 35:22SPEAKER_07: It's in wedding crashers, yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's it's in a lot of different things in media.
- 35:28SPEAKER_07: So I I think that a tradition that transcends the sport itself, yes, 100%.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: That's a great pick.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: It's also at the top of the stairs of a lot of basement bars.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, that is true, yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_07: That is true.
- 35:42SPEAKER_08: Rightfully so.
- 35:44SPEAKER_07: Right, yeah, rightfully so, and regular bars for that map.
- 35:46SPEAKER_08: By that I'm glad you boys, you guys are doing a good job of keeping your biases aside.
- 35:51SPEAKER_08: I I appreciate that.
- 35:52unknown: Thank you.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: You had me until you started talking about the movie Rudy.
- 35:56SPEAKER_08: Well, wedding crashers didn't quite get the pop I wanted, so I had to bring up another flick.
- 36:00SPEAKER_07: Nah, you could have chosen something else.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: To me for two.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: I don't, I'm I'm having a hard time here.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: I am I am going to go to the jersey, the uniform jersey slash uniform category.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: If you've heard me on this podcast before, you know I'm nothing if not a red-blooded American, and that means of course I have the utmost respect for our troops.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna take the U.S.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: Naval Academy uniform, whether it be whether it be the traditional blue and gold with the normal Navy block letters, or if you want to get crazy with it, you get the the the camo uh print, or sometimes they'll they'll toss the anchor on the side of the helmet.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: Whatever it be, I I want the United States Naval Academy Navy uniforms.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Collins, this is the only reason I was sad about having to take Oregon where I did.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: I I was I was getting a little nervous that people weren't gonna take this.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Just the Army Navy uniforms alone have you set for the rest of your life.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: Great pick, though.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: I I I am a little concerned that you didn't take the black and white stripes of the refs as a as a referee yourself.
- 37:16SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna say something.
- 37:17SPEAKER_08: Navy's got something.
- 37:19SPEAKER_07: I think banger uniforms.
- 37:21SPEAKER_08: They do, and I I think you said it right.
- 37:23SPEAKER_08: The traditional Navy jerseys, I love them.
- 37:25SPEAKER_08: They they scream America, that Army Navy game, it pops.
- 37:28SPEAKER_08: I think that's a good pick.
- 37:29SPEAKER_08: I don't like when they did the Nassau twist.
- 37:33SPEAKER_08: When they had the fucking spaceman on their helmets, they lost me.
- 37:36SPEAKER_08: And I think they lost themselves a bit, and I was concerned for our nation's defense because of it.
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: But but Sean, you know, they're taking risks, and that and sometimes you stick your neck out and it gets chopped off, and sometimes it you hit.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: So that that was a miss.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: But 99% of the time you're I'm expecting them to hit.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they've got a great.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: It's like with Oregon, you throw the bad ones out, Mike.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: You throw the bad ones out.
- 38:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's it's a good pick.
- 38:07SPEAKER_08: And it's a little bit outside the box, too, so I appreciate that.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: And another another one that's gonna hit 99, if not 100% of the time.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: I'm going back to the Midwest, to one of the utmost most respected college towns in America.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: In Madison, Wisconsin, I'm taking Camp Randall as my stadium.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, you get you get the jump around kind of thrown in in the middle of the game there, too.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: Oh, you don't get that.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: Nope, nope, nope, flag.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: I'm calling the flag.
- 38:45SPEAKER_08: Okay, I don't get I like that he's flipped into the existence, though, because you can't take it off the record.
- 38:50SPEAKER_08: So the listeners will hear him alluding to the tradition, even though he's just taking the stadium.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: I don't get jump around, but let's not forget where jump around happens.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: But I think we have to the the entire college town experience kind of baked into Camp Randall as well.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: So it come on.
- 39:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, first of all, Madison is absolutely a delight.
- 39:14SPEAKER_08: If we were drafting college towns, I think that should be high up on the list.
- 39:17SPEAKER_08: I believe I did take it in the small towns draft, but who could say?
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: That is a good pick on.
- 39:24SPEAKER_08: I was only in the stadium when a game wasn't happening.
- 39:26SPEAKER_08: Unfortunately, I was at a basketball game at the same time a game was happening.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: So I went to Camp Randall the day before.
- 39:32SPEAKER_08: It's it's a cool spot.
- 39:33SPEAKER_08: I I like Camp Randall a lot.
- 39:35SPEAKER_07: I'll say this.
- 39:36SPEAKER_07: It's it does have one of the best stories of a an origin of a stadium being a the military, the actual camp for the a camp for the civil war.
- 39:48SPEAKER_07: So I think that is it has one of the best stories.
- 39:51SPEAKER_07: I'll give it that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_07: I think it's a reach MC.
- 39:54SPEAKER_07: I'm sorry, but it does have a really cool origin story.
- 39:57SPEAKER_08: Uh yeah, I I think that's it.
- 39:59SPEAKER_08: I don't think that's an out-of-bounds pick.
- 40:01SPEAKER_08: I think for sure that was that was around my board to get taken to.
- 40:03SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna turn heel here.
- 40:04SPEAKER_08: And I'm taking a stadium, and it's a stadium I've been to more than most.
- 40:09SPEAKER_08: I've been here quite a few times, fought quite a few battles, won many, lost more.
- 40:15SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna take my talents to Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania, and I'm taking that white out because no fans are telling me you got Kent, you got Kent State at 3 30, brother.
- 40:33SPEAKER_08: Yes, you just get regular I get everything that happens in the beast.
- 40:37SPEAKER_07: You just get regular beaver state.
- 40:39SPEAKER_08: I get everything that happens in the stadium.
- 40:41SPEAKER_08: You get the white out, but I also have a little bit of that white out.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: I have a little bit of it.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: I do like that.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: So you get a you get a lot of late season heartbreak.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: I thought you were a man of honor.
- 40:51SPEAKER_05: I thought you were a man of honor, Sean Boyle.
- 40:53SPEAKER_08: Stadium's a pretty sick experience.
- 40:55SPEAKER_08: I don't like Penn State.
- 40:56SPEAKER_08: I never will like Penn State.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: We'll see what the new stadium holds.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: The stadium itself stinks.
- 41:01SPEAKER_07: It looks like an erector set, but if you're counting atmosphere, it's yeah, you have to count atmosphere.
- 41:08SPEAKER_07: It looks like it looks like an architect now, Jeff.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: There's fucking structural integrity.
- 41:14SPEAKER_08: I uh everything I do.
- 41:16SPEAKER_08: Beaver Stadium sucks the stadium now.
- 41:18SPEAKER_08: You guys are right.
- 41:18SPEAKER_08: Move on.
- 41:19SPEAKER_08: Next pick.
- 41:19SPEAKER_08: Who we got?
- 41:20SPEAKER_05: That's two that's two pens, Sean.
- 41:23SPEAKER_05: That's two pens that's too.
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: That's crazy.
- 41:26SPEAKER_07: The atmosphere, the atmosphere puts it probably my second stadium.
- 41:29SPEAKER_07: I had it on my list.
- 41:30SPEAKER_07: However, the stadium it's about lead with that.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Sean, I'm just covering because I was obviously waiting until the fifth round to take it so I can avoid the homeware allegations.
- 41:39SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 41:40SPEAKER_08: Well, thank you.
- 41:41SPEAKER_08: And I I knew I thought you would want to take it, so I sniped it.
- 41:44SPEAKER_08: And instead of getting a pat on the back, I once again was met with criticism.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: I came into this saying that I wasn't taking anything Penn State related, and then I thought, okay, if it's there in the final round and I haven't taken a stadium, then I'll then I'll grab it.
- 41:57SPEAKER_08: Instead, I took it and you questioned its structural integrity.
- 42:00SPEAKER_07: I said it's full of it.
- 42:02SPEAKER_07: It'll look, it'll it's gonna look a lot better with the renovations that are coming in.
- 42:07SPEAKER_08: You know where else is gonna look good, Jake?
- 42:08SPEAKER_08: It's gonna look good on that graphic with a lot of Pennsylvania listeners.
- 42:12SPEAKER_08: So call me Sean Pander Boyle.
- 42:14SPEAKER_05: I don't give a there he is.
- 42:16SPEAKER_05: There he is.
- 42:17SPEAKER_05: I thought you were a man on the show.
- 42:20SPEAKER_08: Tell me I'm pandering.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Ugly stadium.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: Stop.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: Jeff.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: I'm going with the Jake Meyer stack.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: I I I wanted to spread the board, but I cannot take the Oregon duck as a mascot.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: It's the it's the best non-hu or best non-actual living mascot in the country.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Like you said, the duckbill pops when it's in the middle of that crowd at Odson Stadium going wild while Dante Moore's running them up and down the field.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: It it just I didn't want to double up, but you guys gave me no choice.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: So we're we're riding the Oregon Ducks to the promised land.
- 42:59SPEAKER_07: That's a great pick.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Bad draft management by me.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I actually thought it was off the board.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I might have taken it on my previous, but yeah, great, great pick.
- 43:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the the Oregon duck, the only critique I would have, Jeff and you already said it would be that you doubled up on a school, but the Oregon Duck needs to be drafted.
- 43:16SPEAKER_08: That was the mascot I was hoping kind of made it back to me.
- 43:19SPEAKER_08: Do you have a name on the fella?
- 43:21SPEAKER_08: I like to refer to them by their names.
- 43:23SPEAKER_08: The Oregon Duck.
- 43:24SPEAKER_08: That can't be it.
- 43:25SPEAKER_08: Just can't be it.
- 43:26SPEAKER_07: It's the duck.
- 43:27SPEAKER_08: Duck is his name.
- 43:28SPEAKER_08: That's immediately losing a point.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: The the duck.
- 43:31SPEAKER_08: Dumb.
- 43:32unknown: Dumb.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: The Histon Donald Duck.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: You got the Disney tie in.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: How could you how could you beat it?
- 43:37SPEAKER_08: And I've now I've now shifted my mood on this pick.
- 43:40SPEAKER_08: I think he's a little look at me with the push ups, too.
- 43:42SPEAKER_07: He's also, I think, Jeff, hasn't he been arrested?
- 43:44SPEAKER_07: Hasn't he been arrested?
- 43:46SPEAKER_07: I think so.
- 43:47SPEAKER_07: Like on the record to boot.
- 43:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah, he beat up he beat up another mascot for real.
- 43:54SPEAKER_08: Well, that's actually sick.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Mascot on mascot crime is a good thing.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: 2007 against Houston.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: He beat up.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: Shasta.
- 44:01SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's funny.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, suspended for a game.
- 44:05SPEAKER_08: One game sussy.
- 44:07SPEAKER_05: Good value on the Oregon duck.
- 44:10SPEAKER_05: In the words of Sean, the bill of the bill on that mallard.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: Well, now hold on.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: When they were doing the uh the mascot contest back in the 70s, there was a mallard duck, and they said, no, we want Donald.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: And so the Oregon duck remained.
- 44:26SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 44:27SPEAKER_08: Jeff once again opting for Donald.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: The Don.
- 44:32SPEAKER_05: I was hoping that lasted a little bit longer because I'm a little bit torn between two traditions, both a little bit different.
- 44:38SPEAKER_05: And I'll I'll go with the one that is, you know, I think when we think of college football, it's about when you show up to the stadium and you know, the the band's playing, the, you know, there's some pregame music, there's, you know, everybody's kind of buzzed.
- 44:54SPEAKER_05: There's that sense of anticipation in the air.
- 44:56SPEAKER_05: And, you know, there's always anticipation for the team to come out.
- 45:00SPEAKER_05: And I think for me, you know, there's maybe no more iconic entrance than uh Howard's Rock running down the hill at Clemson.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: Yes, sir.
- 45:09SPEAKER_05: Good good thought.
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: Good thought.
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: But but yeah, no, just running down that hill with Howard's Rock right into the stadium.
- 45:15SPEAKER_05: I think it's one of the coolest, uh, you know, most creative entrances, especially for like a massive program.
- 45:22SPEAKER_05: Uh, I'm gonna be honest, I don't know much about the history, but I think the graphic, like I said, in terms of the beginning of the game, I think it's an electric, uh, an electric way to start off a college football game.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Did you know that they were gaining so much traction for running down the hill, and that's why Kate Bush wrote running up that hill?
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: Who could forget?
- 45:44SPEAKER_08: Well known fact.
- 45:45SPEAKER_08: I do like the pick, Joe.
- 45:47SPEAKER_08: That's another one that I think we look better as a group if that's on the graphic.
- 45:50SPEAKER_08: So I think Howard's Rock deserves a seat.
- 45:53SPEAKER_08: Wasn't on my board.
- 45:54SPEAKER_08: I can't see past Dabo.
- 45:56SPEAKER_08: That's fair.
- 45:57SPEAKER_08: It's I do hope he gets trampled every time.
- 45:59SPEAKER_08: I'm over I'm over my life on it, but I do hope that he takes a slip.
- 46:03SPEAKER_07: I'm surprised more people haven't felt like haven't felt going down there.
- 46:08SPEAKER_07: But it is cool, Joe.
- 46:09SPEAKER_07: Like them being on the buses, getting off the buses, and going right to the rock and touching it.
- 46:16SPEAKER_07: Howard's Rock, old, uh named after one of their old coaches, and there's like a quote something like if if you're gonna give me 110%, touch the wall, touch the rock.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: If you're not, keep your filthy hands off it.
- 46:29SPEAKER_07: So that's really cool.
- 46:31SPEAKER_07: And I have touched I have touched Howard's Rock before.
- 46:34SPEAKER_07: I have I was fortunate enough to touch it.
- 46:37SPEAKER_08: Did you give 110 is the question?
- 46:39SPEAKER_07: I did.
- 46:40SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 46:40SPEAKER_07: In the parking lot, I gave 110.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: Oh, wait, so that's all we asked.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: He's also giving us 110 on this pod with all the research he's done.
- 46:48SPEAKER_07: That's that's why we have him on the show.
- 46:49SPEAKER_07: Fact checkers across the city.
- 46:52SPEAKER_08: Expert opinion.
- 46:53SPEAKER_07: It was, I will say, it was really cool.
- 46:55SPEAKER_07: I would have loved to have seen it at its best though at night.
- 46:59SPEAKER_07: Because I think when I was there, it was like a 330 kick, and it was like brighter at night.
- 47:05SPEAKER_07: But I would have loved to have seen it like at night.
- 47:08SPEAKER_07: But really cool tradition.
- 47:09SPEAKER_07: Howard's rocking running down the hill.
- 47:11SPEAKER_07: Man, this is tough.
- 47:13SPEAKER_07: Okay, uniforms.
- 47:15SPEAKER_07: I've always liked these uniforms, and and I know because I I made the comment, uniforms are always better when you're kicking someone's ass.
- 47:22SPEAKER_07: And let's face it, this this program hasn't really got kicked much uh ass recently, besides for one year.
- 47:30SPEAKER_07: But I've always loved them and I I still believe it's one of the best helmets.
- 47:34SPEAKER_07: Uniform combos, the collars on them are super cool.
- 47:38SPEAKER_07: Give me Florida State for uniforms.
- 47:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I I get I think I I know they don't have a whole lot of variations, but just their classic, that gold and red with the spear on the helmet, uh the uh the stickers that they put on it.
- 47:56SPEAKER_07: I I think it's a classic uniform, and I'm gonna take it with my uniform.
- 48:02SPEAKER_08: I like working a helmet sticker into the equation, Jake.
- 48:05SPEAKER_08: I think that's good.
- 48:06SPEAKER_08: I think also I really do like Fortis Day.
- 48:08SPEAKER_08: I think the color combination is really strong, and I think the jerseys are unique, which is cool.
- 48:13SPEAKER_08: I maybe don't know if they're a top five jersey for me.
- 48:16SPEAKER_08: I think there's some other ones that are maybe a little kind of one that you think of that are a little better, you know, without some variation, but I don't have a problem with that pick one bit.
- 48:25SPEAKER_08: It wasn't in my top ten, but I like your explanation.
- 48:28SPEAKER_07: Thank you.
- 48:29SPEAKER_07: Thank you.
- 48:29SPEAKER_07: That was a personal preference.
- 48:31SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 48:31SPEAKER_07: So, Boyle, uh the I get myself in trouble in these drafts because the last pick, the last pick, I always go for something that is dear to my heart, and it's always something that gets me in trouble.
- 48:46SPEAKER_07: Whether it be uh the Drew Carey show for the sitcoms, um, whether it's the haunting on Hill House, which by the way was voted uh by IMDB the best horror TV show.
- 48:57SPEAKER_07: I just want to thank you.
- 48:58SPEAKER_07: Incredible show.
- 49:00SPEAKER_07: I forgot about that.
- 49:01SPEAKER_07: Thank you, MC.
- 49:02SPEAKER_07: Thank you, MC.
- 49:03SPEAKER_08: When I get myself I defended the pick, Jake, it's a good show.
- 49:06SPEAKER_08: It drafted it in the T of when we're taking six TV dramas ever.
- 49:10SPEAKER_07: It was my last pick, Sean.
- 49:12SPEAKER_08: It was my last pick.
- 49:13SPEAKER_07: Best horror show on television by IMDb, just letting everyone know.
- 49:17SPEAKER_07: So this is where I get myself in trouble because the last pick I always go with my heart.
- 49:22SPEAKER_07: And I am going with maybe not the best looking mascot, but it's a mascot that has personality, it's a mascot that has persevered, and a mascot that is just so damn ridiculous that I just want him on my team and with my graphic.
- 49:43SPEAKER_07: He also carries a weapon around with him.
- 49:46SPEAKER_07: Give me Purdue Pete.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 49:51SPEAKER_07: I want Purdue Pete on my graphic.
- 49:56SPEAKER_07: He carries a hammer, he sometimes rides around in a scooter.
- 50:00SPEAKER_07: I want Purdue Pete with my last pick.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: This is the worst pick.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: Jake, Jake.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: Purdue Pete wouldn't have been in my top hundred mascots.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: So where were you moving?
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: This is shocking.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: This this is such a pander to your little brother, Tyler.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, what how many how many bot accounts is he gonna make to vote for you in this one?
- 50:21SPEAKER_08: He's also not on social media.
- 50:22SPEAKER_08: He's not a social media guy, he's not gonna see this.
- 50:25SPEAKER_06: So I don't exactly he's not even gonna see this.
- 50:32SPEAKER_08: I fucking commend you because that is such a bad pick.
- 50:35SPEAKER_08: One of the worst we've had on this program, and and you knew it, and you knew it.
- 50:39SPEAKER_08: You tossed your hand up and said, Hey, I'm going in with the bad pick, and I commend you for it.
- 50:43SPEAKER_08: I got all my time I did not expect Purdue Pete to come out of his mouth.
- 50:47SPEAKER_07: I was thinking a million things.
- 50:49SPEAKER_07: Purdue Pete wasn't one of them.
- 50:50SPEAKER_07: Pete is great, he is fantastic, he is straight up nightmare fuel, and that is what I love about him.
- 50:58SPEAKER_07: He carries around a hammer, Sean.
- 51:00SPEAKER_07: Anyone else carry around a weapon with them?
- 51:02SPEAKER_07: I don't think.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: Yes, lots of them.
- 51:04SPEAKER_07: Who?
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Who carries around the mountaineers that carry around fake muskets?
- 51:09SPEAKER_08: There's like six of them.
- 51:10SPEAKER_08: Jake, there's a certain chief that wears the jersey you just drafted that carries a weapon.
- 51:14SPEAKER_08: He's a lot cooler.
- 51:16SPEAKER_07: I mean, well, no, that's not a that's not a mascot.
- 51:19SPEAKER_07: That's a symbol.
- 51:20SPEAKER_07: There's a fuck right up.
- 51:22SPEAKER_07: There's a guy in Southern California, and then yeah, but there, that's that's yeah, he's whatever.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: The only mascot with a weapon, it gets disproven instantly.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: Some count.
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: I think Jake Jake, you are invaluable in this craft.
- 51:39SPEAKER_08: Invaluable with your little bits of history.
- 51:41SPEAKER_08: You you helped us a great deal, and then you seeded your voting too.
- 51:45SPEAKER_08: You said, hey, I pulled hundreds.
- 51:46SPEAKER_08: You're like Steve Harvey.
- 51:47SPEAKER_08: I surveyed a thousand people.
- 51:50SPEAKER_08: And you brought them all in and they led you to Purdue P.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Can I still need to take a mascot, right?
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: I still need to take one still.
- 51:59SPEAKER_07: I did not out, I did not perform any outreach uh for my mascot.
- 52:04SPEAKER_07: Just let everyone know.
- 52:05SPEAKER_07: In case you didn't know.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: I'll wait until you're done, Sean, and then I'll tell you what I thought he was gonna say, but I I don't want to tip any mascots.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 52:12SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 52:12SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm just in I'm in shock.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: I've shock and awe and disbelief.
- 52:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, just oh man.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: Well, if I, you know, I I appreciate that Jake did not attempt to pander with his last pick.
- 52:26SPEAKER_05: And if I was a pandering man, I have tailgating here.
- 52:31SPEAKER_05: If I was a pandering man, like some other people on this pod, I'm not gonna name names, you know, I may pick, you know, Penn State tailgating, where I've where where you know I chirped before about there being kind of like, oh gee, drinking beers, out in uh out in a field or out in a parking lot somewhere, having a great time with your family, with your friends, even if you don't, even if you despise the program, despise the program that you know is the reason for said tailgating.
- 53:01SPEAKER_05: Even though you might walk into the stadium and dis and absolutely hate and want them to lose.
- 53:07SPEAKER_05: If I was a pander, I would pick them, but I won't.
- 53:10SPEAKER_05: Who is he, Tron Carter?
- 53:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this is insane.
- 53:14SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go with uh a stadium I do know Jake's been to.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: I don't know about Jeff, but uh I'm gonna go with University of Tennessee at Nealand, Nealand Stadium.
- 53:23SPEAKER_05: Uh I went there to uh Pit played, I think about four or five years ago.
- 53:27SPEAKER_05: I uh there are a couple spots on campus.
- 53:30SPEAKER_05: Uh the uh Smoky Lawn, I think is one of them.
- 53:33SPEAKER_05: I think the other one's called like Circle Park.
- 53:35SPEAKER_05: I think there are some other ones, but you know, going there as a visiting fan, everybody was saying, Welcome to welcome to Tennessee, welcome to Knoxville.
- 53:43SPEAKER_05: Uh got offered a bunch of beers, got offered some food, and it was just uh ultimate, ultimately, I think a great time.
- 53:50SPEAKER_05: Campus was cool, and uh and yeah, so I'm gonna go with uh I'm gonna go with Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee.
- 53:57SPEAKER_08: Tennessee stinks.
- 53:58SPEAKER_08: Campus wasn't cool, tell you that for free.
- 54:00SPEAKER_08: And also, oh wow, you had beer and food at a tailgate.
- 54:04SPEAKER_05: Holy shit, man.
- 54:07SPEAKER_05: Well, they well no, but they offered it to visiting fans, even though it did go in and win, which was electric.
- 54:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but it uh but you know, it was definitely uh I was surprised at how welcoming they were.
- 54:20SPEAKER_05: Obviously, it's it's not a very common matchup, uh, you know, celebrating good old Johnny Majors, but um where this Kentucky character is how you're treated, Joe.
- 54:28SPEAKER_08: It's like gum on shoe.
- 54:30SPEAKER_08: Because I've done two and it's not fun, and I also I lost the game.
- 54:34SPEAKER_08: I didn't win.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: So let me start on the positive and say that Joe has made my decision easier because I was between Nealand and another stadium for my final pick.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: On the on the negative, let me say it does sound like that you, with one of your longest lifelong friends in Jake Myers, are supporting 101,000 issued death threats.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: That's that's what I heard in that take.
- 54:55SPEAKER_07: I I think it was I don't support that.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Don't support that.
- 54:58SPEAKER_07: Sounds like Joe condones.
- 54:59SPEAKER_08: He sent one.
- 55:01SPEAKER_07: He has not, he doesn't disavow it.
- 55:03SPEAKER_07: He says the thing with Tennessee.
- 55:07SPEAKER_07: It is a good, it's a good tailgate.
- 55:09SPEAKER_07: It's a definitely good tailgating atmosphere.
- 55:11SPEAKER_07: They also have that's it was.
- 55:13SPEAKER_08: He took tailgating.
- 55:14SPEAKER_08: He took tailgating.
- 55:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah, tailgating.
- 55:16SPEAKER_07: Oh, I thought you took the stadium.
- 55:17SPEAKER_07: No tailgating.
- 55:19SPEAKER_07: Tailgating.
- 55:20SPEAKER_03: Good for you.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: I thought it was a stadium too.
- 55:22SPEAKER_07: Sailgate, you didn't even mention the say the possible sailgating that you could do there.
- 55:27SPEAKER_07: Well, the volume.
- 55:29SPEAKER_07: So they have their little sections.
- 55:32SPEAKER_07: I it's a creek.
- 55:34SPEAKER_07: I kind of um I got screwed because the lot I was in sucked.
- 55:38SPEAKER_07: But then like I was like, this kind of stinks.
- 55:40SPEAKER_07: And then I was walking around like, oh, okay, this is a lot better, you know.
- 55:44SPEAKER_07: But really nice fans, like super cool people.
- 55:48SPEAKER_07: Their fans suck, guys.
- 55:50SPEAKER_07: You guys go, no, they suck.
- 55:52SPEAKER_07: Wait, be a rival fan.
- 55:54SPEAKER_07: Hang on, Sean.
- 55:55SPEAKER_07: I'm not gonna be able to do that.
- 55:57SPEAKER_07: I know, I know.
- 55:58SPEAKER_07: In the stadium, fans are great.
- 56:01SPEAKER_07: At the stadium, they're fine, but until you're a referee making a bad call, or if you're Michael Collins would never or if you're online, maybe they are the absolute worst.
- 56:12SPEAKER_07: I think it's a solid pick.
- 56:13SPEAKER_07: I think there's better out there, but solid pick, Joe.
- 56:17SPEAKER_07: Solid.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: They've been known to throw a thing or two.
- 56:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah, they they have against your people, Mike.
- 56:22SPEAKER_08: Against your people, other than the other than the abuse online and the direct to your face like nastiness in person when you're wearing a rival fan's attire, they're a great bunch.
- 56:34SPEAKER_08: Because they offered Joe a hot dog.
- 56:37SPEAKER_05: Hey, I I I went and got no death threats, even even on the way out after Pitt beat him.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: At least he's doing the work on his own and not calling his friends and asking them to do the work for him.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he did do it.
- 56:48SPEAKER_07: It's called research.
- 56:49SPEAKER_07: It's called research.
- 56:50SPEAKER_04: If I haven't been there, I have to I have to get and I didn't pander, and I didn't pander and when I could have.
- 56:56SPEAKER_04: When I could have.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: Well, since since I screwed that up and talked about Neal and Stadium, I'm not going to take it because that would just be silly.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: We're not going back to back Tennessee.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: So I'm taking the big house to close things out.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: This is disgusting.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: I have Ohio State and Michigan on my board, but you know what?
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: I'm a man of honor.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: I pushed aside my my biases, and it's uh it's it's an unbelievable stadium, great environment.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: I think it is it still the biggest in college football currently.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: North it's the biggest biggest in North America for capacity.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: You make it's all I need.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: Is it a is it a little bit quantity over quality?
- 57:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: You need binoculars.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: I do like that it's that it's you know, you kind of go down instead of the going up.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: I I rock with that.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: I think it's uh I think it's a it's better for the atmosphere to have people going down than going up, you know, getting less tired so they can cheer during the game.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: So but hey, I'll take the quantity too.
- 57:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, no, I mean it's also one of the you uh one of the stadiums we probably should have drafted.
- 57:57SPEAKER_08: So I think, Jeff, it's a good pick in the fifth round.
- 57:59SPEAKER_08: Like big house is gonna do well on the graphic.
- 58:01SPEAKER_07: Classic stadium.
- 58:02SPEAKER_07: It's ginormous.
- 58:04SPEAKER_07: Also, a lot of good seats in the house.
- 58:06SPEAKER_07: Like, since it's a bowl, good job, like Jeff said, you kind of go down, so it's like it's I thought it was gonna be a lot harder to like get to my seats than what it was.
- 58:14SPEAKER_07: So yeah, it's a classic stadium.
- 58:17SPEAKER_08: I'm up.
- 58:17SPEAKER_08: I have to take a mascot with my last pick.
- 58:20SPEAKER_08: There's several great mascots on the board.
- 58:22SPEAKER_08: We will be doing a mascot draft at one point in the future.
- 58:25SPEAKER_08: So I'm we're not gonna go into too many honorable mentions in any of these categories because they could all be spin-off drafts in their own right.
- 58:31SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna take a live mascot, though.
- 58:33SPEAKER_08: I I would be remiss if I didn't.
- 58:35SPEAKER_08: I have to take and this one, he it's almost like his name is what he sounds like, and he looks like an Ugga.
- 58:43SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna I Ugga looks like a bulldog, it's a perfectly named, it's also the school's name, but just come here, Ugga, and you just want to squeeze him.
- 58:51SPEAKER_08: Absolute delight.
- 58:52SPEAKER_08: I'm a dog guy.
- 58:53SPEAKER_08: Put that on the graphic.
- 58:54SPEAKER_08: Dog guy, and also we could salute our troops and we can wave to the kids.
- 58:59SPEAKER_08: You could also just pet Ugga, and you know what?
- 59:02SPEAKER_08: That's gonna get you.
- 59:02SPEAKER_08: That's a great it's almost like a tradition seeing Ugga on the sidelines.
- 59:05SPEAKER_08: You I feel like you give him the ball and he'd run for a few yards, too.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Seems like a lazy dog, brother.
- 59:11SPEAKER_08: No, that it's true.
- 59:14SPEAKER_08: You might need to shoot him up with something, but I think Ugga is okay.
- 59:19SPEAKER_08: I didn't mean to see not Pita, not Pita.
- 59:23SPEAKER_08: You're you're you're whipping Ralphie on your way out.
- 59:26SPEAKER_08: Don't cut that.
- 59:27SPEAKER_08: You can't cut that.
- 59:28SPEAKER_08: Cut it.
- 59:29SPEAKER_08: Cut it.
- 59:30SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 59:31SPEAKER_08: He's whipping Ralphie.
- 59:32SPEAKER_08: He's hitting women.
- 59:36SPEAKER_08: Ugga's a dude.
- 59:38SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 59:40SPEAKER_08: No, I think Uga out of the live mascots.
- 59:42SPEAKER_08: I I like Ralphie.
- 59:43SPEAKER_08: I think he was definitely draft worthy.
- 59:44SPEAKER_08: I think there's a couple others that could have been picked, but I think Ugga's the best one available.
- 59:48SPEAKER_03: Solid pick.
- 59:49SPEAKER_07: Solid, great pick.
- 59:50SPEAKER_07: Great pick.
- 59:51SPEAKER_03: So I guess it's to me for Mr.
- 59:53SPEAKER_03: Irrelevant, correct?
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: And I uh I have a mascot to choose between as well.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_03: And like you said, there are there are a many.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: And I think uh I I think I just need to go go with my heart here.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_03: Uh I it it is a live mascot of sorts, and I'm gonna take the Notre Dame leprechaun.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: He is uh he he or she is uh incredibly ethnic, significantly more ethnic than any of your picks.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: Also more inclusive.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_03: He he they they go different races.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_03: There has been a few iterations of a female leprechaun, uh, and just an absolute electric factory when when uh the Irish are rolling too.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: I hate this pick.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_03: I hate this pick.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_08: I I I think there's a lot better mascot dentistry.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_08: But it's a sentimental one a little bit.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, man.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_07: I don't like your mascot pick.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_08: That's you took Purdue P.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, in your defense, it's not the worst mascot pick here, and also it does have a lot of worldwide appeal.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_08: Like, people know the mascot, it's very recognizable.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_08: You you know it's unique.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_08: It is just a it's just an average dude, usually, though.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and right on right on that line, fun fact, maybe this is skewed it in the uh back of my mind, skewed my pick here.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: I actually played on a softball team with a former uh Notre Dame Leprechaun.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: Um, he was a little guy, a slap hitter, center fielder.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, real spark plug.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: So that's one vote.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: Interesting little tidbit there.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: So yeah, no, I needed I needed some some shamrock on my on my draft board.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_03: So uh that's that's Mr.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: Irrelevant for you.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_08: I think listen, we we're not gonna do honorable mentions this time because, like I said, we will be doing other drafts specifically on some of these categories, so we won't be tipping future picks.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_08: I think everybody did a pretty good job.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: Can I just say the mascot that I thought Jake was talking about when he was like, Oh, it's so zany and it's just so out there.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: And I thought you were taking the tree from Stanford.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: He said weapon, and I was like, oh no.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: I was considered I don't think he I don't think they got a weapon over there.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: I was very much considering the tree.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_07: The other one I was thinking about was Big Red from Western Kentucky.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: Also was considering that that would have played better.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_07: I don't think I don't think I know, but I I don't know.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_07: I didn't think it would play as well.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because I we we're now we're tipping, we're doing what I said we're not gonna do.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_07: Oh, we're those anyway too.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_07: Shut it down.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_08: All right, I'll shut it down.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_08: There's a there's a certain buckeye that should have been taken.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_08: I'll say that.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_08: It's an absolute delight.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_03: No, we shouldn't have.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_03: If I were if I were pandering, I would I I probably would have.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you went off the beaten path to Notre Dame.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_08: That's not that's that's not gonna play well.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_08: All right, does everybody have their list in front of them so we could recap?
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_08: I will start things off.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Jake.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_08: Jake is another part of the draft that he he never has his picks written down.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_08: I I will lead off because I have mine ready.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_08: My first pick was Washington State sailgating at Husky Harbor.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_08: Then I took Tulane jerseys, then I took the play like a champion sign as my tradition.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_08: I took an absolute beast of the stadium.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_08: I took Beaver Stadium, none other than Beaver Stadium.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_08: And my mascot, I took Ugga, just an adorable little fella.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Uh I took the Oregon jerseys, I took the tailgate at the grove for Obis.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: I took dotting the eye in uh in tradition.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: I took the Oregon duck mascot, aptly named the Oregon Duck, and I took the big house, Michigan Stadium for Stadium.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Corporate Jeff.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_03: I have the tailgate of Florida versus Georgia, the largest outdoor cocktail party.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_03: I have the University of Iowa Hawkeye Wave tradition.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_03: I took the Navy jerseys uniforms, I have Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin, and rounding it out with the absolute beast of a Notre Dame leprechaun.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Where there will be no jumping around at that camp Randall.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: I have the white out of Penn State, by the way, too.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_05: No, you do not incorrect.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_00: You can have the stripe out.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_05: For me, I had started with the Rose Bowl for stadium, then Ralphie for the mascot, LSU jerseys, the Clemson running down the hill and Howard's Rock for tradition, and then tailgating at Tennessee.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_05: Alrighty.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_05: Decent list.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_07: I have for my stadium Tiger Stadium.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_07: We're gonna stay down to the bayou for tailgating with LSU.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_07: I got the White Out at Penn State for the tradition.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_07: For uniforms, I'm going with the Florida State Seminoles.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_07: And then lastly, his gracious Purdue Pete for a mascot.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_08: Absolute pleasure.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_08: This was a lot of fun, boys.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_08: I had a great time.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I second that.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: I think it was Jake's point earlier about the jerseys.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: I think in my head, the Florida State jerseys just don't look good because Ashton Daniels is playing quarterback.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_00: That that doesn't help.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_07: Does not help.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: If you got me in in 2014-15 with uh Jameis Winston, I'd probably be like, yeah, those jerseys are pretty sick.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_07: They looked a lot better down then, didn't they?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_07: Yes, sir.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_07: Yes, sir, they did.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_07: Does anybody have any parting thoughts as we wrap up?
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: I'm just so jazzed up that football's back, man.
