- 1:08This is the product that will retire Fossil.
- 1:11Fuels. We're not just creating
- 1:13products, we're creating a movement for sustainable energy
- 1:16for everyone. What?
- 1:18We're trying to convey is a message of hope and optimism.
- 1:22Optimism that is based on actual physics.
- 1:25Both can and will move to a sustainable energy economy and
- 1:29will do so in your lifetime. Solution to scalable FSD is
- 1:37getting the architecture, the data and the compute just right
- 1:41and we have assembled a world class team to execute on this.
- 1:48Every truck that we put on the road that replace the diesel
- 1:50trucks makes a huge difference towards driving us towards our
- 1:52total mission of sustainable energy and transportation.
- 1:55You can see and you can feel the collaboration that's happening
- 1:59and the pride that everyone has in working for Tesla.
- 2:18All right, well, let me start off first by thanking everyone
- 2:25at Tesla for your incredible hard work.
- 2:30I mean, the Tesla team is an incredible team, great human
- 2:33beings like I mean, anyway, some of the finest people in the
- 2:38world work at Tesla designing and manufacturing our incredible
- 2:44products. So my thanks to you for
- 2:47everything you're doing well done.
- 2:49So we're going to go through just a list of the incredible
- 3:01achievements of the Tesla team. We've now produced over 7
- 3:05million vehicles, 7 million in our in our first year of
- 3:16production we, we produced just over 20 vehicles.
- 3:21And I thought well, maybe we can be able, we might want to be
- 3:24able to do 10 or 20 a week instead of 10 or 20 a year.
- 3:28And with the way things are tracking right now, we will
- 3:31actually have made over 10 million vehicles next year.
- 3:35So we'll pass the 10 million vehicle cumulative.
- 3:37That's a lot of cars, man. That's a lot of cars.
- 3:43So, so it's it's really and it's incredibly difficult as you
- 3:50know, to design, to build, to manage the supply chain with
- 3:53thousands of suppliers, make sure everything arrives, you've
- 3:56got 10s of thousands of parts, make sure everything works, then
- 3:59build the car, service the car and it's it's it's really
- 4:05difficult. I mean this frankly, the car
- 4:08business is a tough, a tough business.
- 4:11So but the, the, and you know, there are times when there are
- 4:16rocky moments, like things are sort of like a little bit of
- 4:20stormy weather. But what I'm here to tell you is
- 4:24that the future is incredibly bright and exciting and we're
- 4:28going to do things that no one I think has even dreamed of.
- 4:33You know what we've said we're going to do it, but I think
- 4:35until we actually do it, people won't believe just how
- 4:38incredible it is. So I'm going to go through all
- 4:41of the things that that we're accomplishing here.
- 4:45So once again, thank you very much.
- 4:47So, you know, it's worth noting that Tesla remains of the
- 4:58company of choice for people to work for.
- 5:00So we get millions of applications per year for a very
- 5:04small number of spots. And we continue to be the the
- 5:08leading organization along with SpaceX for engineering talent in
- 5:11the world and also for manufacturing talent really for
- 5:15it's like it's an awesome place to work basically.
- 5:19And we're because of our growth, there's a lot of opportunity for
- 5:23upward mobility. And I'm going to talk you
- 5:27through just you know, how I see the future unfolding and why I
- 5:30think it is going to be incredible.
- 5:33So first of all, as always, we care a lot about safety.
- 5:39So the safety of our cars and the safety of people within the
- 5:42factory. So you can see that our work
- 5:44related injuries have declined over time.
- 5:47So thank you for helping make that happen.
- 5:50That's a collaborative effort. So congratulations to the safety
- 5:53team on continuing to improve workplace safety.
- 6:05So one of the things that may seem like how do you, how do you
- 6:08pull it all together is, you know, where does AI and robots
- 6:13fit in this sort of sustainable energy picture?
- 6:15Like, is that just like some weird side project or, or what
- 6:19you know, but it's, it's because what we're really aiming for
- 6:24here is maybe a better way to think about rather than
- 6:28sustainable energy is sustainable abundance for all.
- 6:34So if you think about like what is the future that would what's
- 6:38what's the most exciting future that you could possibly imagine?
- 6:43Like what does that future look like?
- 6:45It's worth thinking about that. Just just think, just in, just
- 6:49just imagine a future. What does that that amazing
- 6:54future look like? How about a future where you can
- 6:58have any good or service you want at will?
- 7:03A future of abundance for all where really anyone can have
- 7:08anything. It sounds impossible.
- 7:10It sounds like it's really such a thing cannot be the case.
- 7:14But what I'm here to tell you is that that will indeed be the
- 7:17case. That the future we're headed for
- 7:20is 1 where you can literally just have anything you want.
- 7:25Like if there's a go to service you want, you'll be able to have
- 7:27it and and ultimately everyone in the world will be able to
- 7:32have anything they want. What's key to that is robotics
- 7:38and AI. So once you have self driving
- 7:41cars and you have autonomous humanoid robots where everyone
- 7:46can have their own personal C3PO and R2D2, but even better than
- 7:50that, that's Optimus. You can imagine like your own
- 7:55personal robot buddy that is a great friend, but also takes
- 8:00care of your house, will clean your house, will mow the lawn,
- 8:05will walk the dog, will teach your kids, will babysit and,
- 8:13and, and will also also enable the production of goods and
- 8:16services basically with no limit.
- 8:22And when you combine that with sustainable energy from the sun
- 8:26and batteries, we can also at the same time also maintain a
- 8:29great environment. So that's I think is the future
- 8:34that we that we want a future where nobody's nobody's in need.
- 8:40You can have what you want and we still, but we still have
- 8:44nature. We still have, you know, the,
- 8:48the beautiful parts of nature that that we like.
- 8:53I think that's probably the best future.
- 8:55I can't, I was like, what other future would you want?
- 8:58I think that's like the cool future.
- 8:59And also space travel. Let's not forget that.
- 9:03So if you can have basically anything you want and travel to
- 9:07space and go to Mars, and that would be that's about as good as
- 9:11I guess, you know, it's like that's it.
- 9:14So that's really what we're trying to do is take the set of
- 9:18actions most likely to lead to a great future for all.
- 9:23So that's what I mean by sustainable abundance and the,
- 9:29the, the combination of things that we're making with Optimus
- 9:34and AI and AI compute will achieve an age of abundance for
- 9:40all. Like actually, so it's going to
- 9:46be pretty great. Model Y became the best selling,
- 9:53you know, vehicle in the world, you know, FYI, we do make the
- 9:58best, you know. You know, it's, it's how we're
- 10:09doing our popularity. Well, we actually literally make
- 10:10the best selling car on earth of any kind.
- 10:14So that's ends for two years in a row.
- 10:17So and it's going to be the best selling car on earth again this
- 10:21year. So the Cyber truck became the
- 10:31best selling electric vehicle pickup instantly because it's
- 10:34awesome. And Tesla was the best selling
- 10:39electric vehicle in Europe, the fastest growing brand in South
- 10:43Korea. And we launched in a lot of new
- 10:45markets including Qatar, Lithuania, Chile, and the
- 10:47Philippines. And we'll be opening in a whole
- 10:49bunch more markets as well. So Tesla's will be available
- 10:53worldwide. So overall, you know, it's good.
- 10:58If you read the news, it feels like, you know, Armageddon.
- 11:02So I was like, I can't walk past the TV without seeing a Tesla on
- 11:05fire. And like, what's going on?
- 11:08You know, some people that's like, listen, I understand if
- 11:10you don't want to buy our product, but you don't have to
- 11:12burn it down. That's a bit unreasonable.
- 11:14You know, like, like this is psycho.
- 11:19Stop being psycho. OK.
- 11:24So and we launched the new Model Y Congrats to the team on on
- 11:28faster. So you know, that's that's
- 11:37obviously very tough because we've got factories all across
- 11:40the world and we've got a change over a global, a supply chain on
- 11:44333, basically 3 supply chains on three continents.
- 11:49And I think you did an amazing job of switching over the
- 11:53world's best selling car globally in a in a very short
- 11:58period of time. Well done guys.
- 12:07And this all forget also we upgraded Model 3 last year.
- 12:11So I would encourage people to also buy the model 3.
- 12:14It's a great car actually. So and the cyber truck is
- 12:21achieved 5 star safety. You know, these these days, you
- 12:25know, sometimes things get a little dangerous.
- 12:28The neighborhood and the cyber truck being bulletproof and all
- 12:32can come in handy. So, but apart from being
- 12:36bulletproof, it's also very safe in a crash.
- 12:40We're also building the Tesla Semi factory.
- 12:44This is a vehicle that some people said was impossible to
- 12:47build, that it defied physics. Well, not only does it not defy
- 12:51physics, we're going to be making a lot of them.
- 12:54So we're going to make just a, you know, I think ultimately
- 12:58we'll make over 1,000,000 millions probably of the Tesla
- 13:02Semi. And this is really going to be
- 13:05something that works. You'll see all over the place.
- 13:08And it'll also be autonomous or have the ability to be, to go
- 13:11autonomous down the road. So really autonomy is a massive,
- 13:17massive thing. The future is autonomous.
- 13:24So I always sort of think like, what will the future look like
- 13:30in five years or 10 years, 20 years and five years from now?
- 13:38Autonomous cars are going to be everywhere, primarily going to
- 13:40be Tesla's, by the way, but autonomous Tesla's will be
- 13:44everywhere. And I think in five years,
- 13:49probably we'll have regulatory approval, I think globally.
- 13:54So you'll have autonomous Tesla's on every continent
- 13:58taking people on trips, and almost the entire fleet, which
- 14:03will pass 10 million vehicles next year, is capable of full
- 14:08autonomy. So even without the the cyber
- 14:11cab, we still actually have a gigantic fleet that is capable
- 14:17of being autonomous. And the thing about being an
- 14:19autonomous car is that it can be used much more than a car that
- 14:23is not autonomous. A typical passenger vehicle car
- 14:26will be used about 10 hours a week.
- 14:28So you might use it, who might use it for an hour and a half a
- 14:31day on average for seven days, which is about 10 hours a week.
- 14:34But there are 168 hours in a week.
- 14:37So if you have a car that that's a robot car that can drive
- 14:40autonomously, it can now be used potentially for 80, maybe 100
- 14:45hours a week. So you could have a car that it
- 14:48that has 10 times the usefulness of a non autonomous car, but it
- 14:54still costs the same. In fact the fleets are already
- 14:58built. So the software update is just
- 15:01enables that capability. Overnight you have an increase
- 15:08in usefulness of 10 million cars that suddenly become like 50
- 15:12million cars or maybe 80 or 100 million cars of usefulness
- 15:16overnight. That that's a profound thing.
- 15:19Like nothing like that has ever happened before.
- 15:22There is no, there is no analogy that there's no nothing is
- 15:27there's never been something where a software update
- 15:30increased the value of a gigantic asset base by a factor
- 15:35of like 500 to 1000%. So it's very difficult for like,
- 15:40you know, people in the stock market, especially those that
- 15:43look in the rearview mirror, which is most people to imagine
- 15:49a future where suddenly a 10 million vehicle fleet has five
- 15:56to 10 times the, the usefulness. It's, it's so profound and, and
- 16:02there's, there's no comparison with anything in the past that
- 16:05they just can't, it does not compute, but it will compute in
- 16:09the future. And some people like Kathy Wood
- 16:14at Arc Invest do see the future. So what I'm saying is hang on to
- 16:20your stock. So, so yeah, it's it's really,
- 16:37it's mind blowing. Then I want to give a shout out
- 16:42to service. Service is a tough job, an
- 16:44important job, and it's actually what sells cars long term, you
- 16:50know, because the, the initial car is sold with sales, but all
- 16:53future cars are sold with service.
- 16:56And I always encourage our service team like, let's try to
- 16:59give people a service experience that they love, not merely if
- 17:02they like, but that they love because people will talk about
- 17:04something that they love. That was an amazing experience.
- 17:07But they, they don't talk very much about things that they
- 17:09like. You have to really do something
- 17:11amazing. And then they'll, they'll,
- 17:13they'll talk about it and be like, wow, that's incredible.
- 17:15So thank you to the service team for the great job you do.
- 17:28And I mean, you can see sort of I like this sort of light map of
- 17:30superchargers. You can see you can go
- 17:33practically anywhere in, in the US, Mexico, Europe, China most
- 17:40well, I guess not the Outback of Australia, but but you know,
- 17:45most of the places where people live.
- 17:48So our supercharger network continues to grow significantly
- 17:53and we keep upgrading our superchargers.
- 17:55This is, in fact, I still run into a lot of people who don't
- 17:59realize that you can drive, you can take your Tesla on a road
- 18:01trip anywhere in America or anywhere in Europe, anywhere,
- 18:04pretty much anywhere in China, just using the Tesla
- 18:07Supercharger network. And it's actually easy and
- 18:09convenient. So people think that they're
- 18:12whatever the range of the car is, that's as far as they can
- 18:14go. Like, no, you can just stop at a
- 18:16Supercharger network. The car's battery will last
- 18:19longer than your bladder. I'm pretty confident.
- 18:22So that's really the threshold as long as the car battery lasts
- 18:25longer than your bladder and just plug it in when you go to
- 18:28the restroom and you come back and, you know, grab a coffee or
- 18:30whatever and you're back on the road and everything's good, then
- 18:35that's the range that matters and the supercharging speed that
- 18:37matters. So, yes, so Congrats to the
- 18:42Supercharger team on expanding network, do great, great work
- 18:46there, So. And then the, I mean the Mega
- 18:56Pack and Powerwall team are really knocking it out of the
- 18:58park. The demand for BAT for
- 19:00stationary battery storage is gigantic.
- 19:03And I think that is actually only going to increase
- 19:06dramatically over time. So and that the, we've got the
- 19:11Shanghai Mega Factory that's got started in record time in
- 19:14February can drag. Congrats to the Shanghai factory
- 19:17team there. That's awesome.
- 19:24And the Powerwall 3 is, it usually takes, it usually takes
- 19:28about three major technology iterations for the product to be
- 19:31great. And the Powerwall 3 really is a
- 19:34fantastic home energy product. And it's something that if you
- 19:38want to have ensure that your home has uninterrupted power
- 19:41during a power outage, the Powerwall 3 is the way to go.
- 19:46And if you combine that with solar, you can basically be off
- 19:49grid, which is pretty cool. But I think just having energy
- 19:53insurance like like being or energy assurance, such that if
- 19:57the, if the utility goes down, you don't even notice you like
- 20:02the lights respond to your house and your neighbors will come to
- 20:04you for help. Basically that's actually what
- 20:07happens when somebody has a Tesla Powerwall and there's a
- 20:11power outage. So that's a, that's a great
- 20:13product. And then, yeah, Megapack,
- 20:16especially at the utility scale, is that the opportunity there is
- 20:20gigantic because it enables a utility grid to dramatically
- 20:24increase the output of electricity, because you can,
- 20:26you can generate electricity at night and then Megapack can
- 20:30provide that electricity during the day because normal
- 20:33electricity demand is very uneven.
- 20:35There's a lot of electricity usage during the day, but
- 20:37limited at night. So Megapack actually has the
- 20:41potential to increase the output of an existing electricity grid
- 20:46by more than double. So you can actually, without
- 20:49building additional power plants, double the total output
- 20:52of energy in a year. So it's quite a profound thing.
- 20:58Yeah. So Megapack is, is also really
- 21:01good at stabilizing the grid. So if there's if there's
- 21:04variations in power in the grid, Megapack can absorb if there's a
- 21:10big power spike and it can absorb and store the power.
- 21:13And then if there's a drop in power, it can fill in the gap.
- 21:16So it's a mega pack is excellent for stabilizing grid and
- 21:22obviously good. It matches very well with wind
- 21:25and solar. In fact, satellites are just
- 21:31solar panels and a battery. That's how all satellites work.
- 21:35And you know, with the Starling satellite network, there's 7000
- 21:38satellites orbiting the Earth and all they use is is solar
- 21:41panels and a battery. And my prediction is long term,
- 21:45a majority of power on Earth. In fact, eventually it might be
- 21:51like 90% or more of all power on Earth will be solar panels with
- 21:55batteries. That's my prediction.
- 21:59My predictions have pretty good track record, so yeah.
- 22:07And the power walls can also act as kind of a virtual grid.
- 22:11So if you have thousands of power walls in a neighborhood,
- 22:13they can actually work, work in concert to stabilize the grid.
- 22:18The V4 supercharger is pretty cool.
- 22:23It enables charging at 500 kilowatts and the semi can
- 22:28charge at 1.2 megawatts. So it's and it's smaller and
- 22:32lighter. It's a big improvement overall
- 22:35and we're rolling this out worldwide.
- 22:37So it will increase charging speeds and yeah, just enable you
- 22:42to get your car charged really fast.
- 22:44So, and then with regard to cell manufacturing, we were at this
- 22:52point we think we're making the, the, the most efficient cell in
- 22:58the world, meaning like the the lowest cost per kWh cell.
- 23:02So which is really pretty, pretty good.
- 23:05Like their entire companies that all they do is make fat lithium
- 23:09ion battery cells. And for, for us that's one of
- 23:14many things that we do. So congratulations to the the
- 23:18cell team on making the best sell.
- 23:29So that's, that's really big deal.
- 23:33And then we're we're also investing in the whole battery
- 23:36supply chain. So we have cathode production,
- 23:40we have lithium refining and and then more, yeah, hopefully we're
- 23:48sort of hoping someone else will do the the anode.
- 23:51We might have to do the anode. I hope someone else does it.
- 23:55Why do we have to do all these things?
- 23:59Yeah, a lot of people think like we do this thing, a lot of these
- 24:01things because we want to. But really it's often just
- 24:05because we didn't have any choice.
- 24:06Nobody else was doing it, so we had to do it.
- 24:08So, so, yeah, a lot of new factory milestones.
- 24:14So in Berlin we produced 660,000 drive units.
- 24:17Fremont. We've built our first Optimist
- 24:20at the Optimist production line in Fremont.
- 24:24We're preparing for Cyber cap production here at Gig Factory
- 24:27Austin and Gigafactory Shanghai created its three millionth car.
- 24:34We've produced 160,000 NAX adapters at Gigafactory New York
- 24:39and we've got record battery pack production at Gigafactory
- 24:43Nevada. So Congrats to everyone.
- 24:54We also just behind us in the on the South side of the building,
- 24:59we have the Tesla, we're called Cortex one.
- 25:03It's like basically a giant brain, computer brain that is
- 25:07used for AI training. So it's, we take the vast
- 25:11amounts of video that we get from all the cars in the fleet
- 25:14and we use that to train the artificial intelligence to be
- 25:16able to drive the car. And, and this is one of the most
- 25:20powerful training systems in the world with over 50,000 GPUs
- 25:25active and soon to be 100,000 GPUs, which will make it I think
- 25:30probably top five in the world in training centers.
- 25:42We're also making continuing to make progress on our Dojo
- 25:45training super supercomputer. So we've got to Dojo 1 active
- 25:51now in Gigafactory New York and in Palo Alto.
- 25:54And it's, it is actually working.
- 25:56It's actually taking load on. It's, it's, it's, it's doing a
- 26:00meaningful percentage. Well, I guess 5% or whatever,
- 26:06but it's still something five, maybe approaching 10% of the
- 26:10training load of of the self driving AI is being done by
- 26:17Dojo. And then we've got Dojo 2 that's
- 26:20coming down the line. That'll be probably 10 times
- 26:23better than Dojo 1. And so it's sort of exciting.
- 26:27We're making good progress with Dojo.
- 26:30I'm increasingly optimistic about the future of Dojo.
- 26:33I think it's we got a real shot here at at a breakthrough.
- 26:37So Congrats to the Dojo team. And the all, all, all Tesla
- 26:49vehicles have now had what we call autopilot hardware for or
- 26:53really our AI4 hardware. And it's, it's really, it's very
- 26:58powerful AI inference computer and, and, but also operates at
- 27:04very low power. And even to this day, even
- 27:07though this was a, this has been something we designed several
- 27:10years ago, there actually isn't anything on the market that we
- 27:12can buy that is better than AI4. So, and obviously in the future
- 27:16years, we'll have AI5 and AI6. Sometimes people say, should I
- 27:20wait? I'm like, well, Roy's going to
- 27:22have another version, so there's no point in waiting because he's
- 27:25waiting forever. So but we obviously will have an
- 27:29AI5 and an AI6 and an AI7 and we'll keep improving the, the AI
- 27:34compute. So for those out there that are
- 27:36interested in developing advanced chips, come over to
- 27:40Tesla and it, it is always, I think profound to, to watch our
- 27:50cars driving with no one in them.
- 27:52And we actually have the cars doing useful work for the first
- 27:57time with no one in them, which I think is, is really it's a
- 28:01significant milestone. So the cars are driving from end
- 28:05of line in Fremont to park themselves.
- 28:08And I think we've just started doing that here in in Austin.
- 28:12So we'll we'll be yeah, this car, the car literally goes from
- 28:17Underline in Fremont to to its to its destination parking spot
- 28:22where it gets picked up by a truck for delivery to a customer
- 28:25with and a good does that with no one in it.
- 28:27And it's not doing that all day every day like it, you know,
- 28:31pretty much like it's just a matter of fact thing.
- 28:37Yeah. So see, yeah.
- 28:42And, and obviously for anyone that's using it, you can see the
- 28:45dramatic improvements in the in the in full self driving where
- 28:51it's getting to the point where interventions are extremely
- 28:54rare. And eventually they'll get to
- 28:56the point where there really is no need to intervene.
- 28:59Like the car is going to be better than human.
- 29:01In fact, maybe it's it's it's worth emphasizing that it's not
- 29:05that. It's not that Tesla full self
- 29:07driving will be equal to humans in safety.
- 29:10It will be ultimately 10 times safer than a human because it
- 29:14never gets tired. It doesn't you know it like
- 29:19humans get tired and sometimes get wasted, you know, and we'll
- 29:24have arguments or change the radio or you know, text.
- 29:28I know no one in this audience would ever text while driving.
- 29:31That would be crazy. But you know it does happen.
- 29:35So if so, the reality is that the full self Tesla full self
- 29:41driving will be vastly safer than humans, not just
- 29:45equivalent, we actually vastly safer.
- 29:47And it means you can do whatever you want while driving.
- 29:49So even if you don't like rent your car out for usage, you can
- 29:54still it frees up your time. So if let's say you're driving
- 29:581012 hours a week or more, it gives you back 11:50 hours of
- 30:02your life, which is extremely cool.
- 30:09So well, Optimus sure has come a long way.
- 30:24So the new Optimus 22° of freedom hand and forearm is now
- 30:29in production and it's learning to walk and catch balls.
- 30:36It's pretty cool. I mean, like that's where we
- 30:40came from. It's wild.
- 30:42So in a very short period of time, Optimus has gone from
- 30:46being an idea to the most sophisticated humanoid robot on
- 30:51Earth. There's nothing, there's nothing
- 30:54even close to the level of sophistication of, of Optimus.
- 30:57And and Tesla has some important missing ingredients that that
- 31:02others don't have, which is our, our robot has a real brain.
- 31:08It's like Wizard of Oz to man. But was that a harder brain one
- 31:12of the two? So it's got to, it's got the
- 31:21it's got the real world AI. So it tells us the leader in
- 31:24real world AI, what we learned in the car, we translate to the
- 31:28optimist robot and we also translate take the our expertise
- 31:32in electric motors, in batteries, power electronics,
- 31:36structural design. And then another major important
- 31:40thing is that we're very good at manufacturing.
- 31:43So in order for robots to be useful that you have to they
- 31:46have to be intelligent. They have to be able to do
- 31:49useful things just by asking, and you have to be able to make
- 31:52a large number of them at an affordable price.
- 31:55This is what we can do. We have the only company with
- 31:59all the ingredients for making intelligent humanoid robots at
- 32:03scale is Tesla. This is a super big deal.
- 32:08Like my prediction is that on this front is that Optimus will
- 32:13be the biggest product of all time by far.
- 32:18Nothing will even be close. It'll be, I think it'll be 10
- 32:22times bigger than the next biggest product ever made, like
- 32:27that level. So,

- 33:26revolutionary manufacturing process.
- 33:29So I guess we probably don't talk about that enough.
- 33:33But if you've seen the design of the cyber cab line, it doesn't
- 33:38look like a normal car manufacturing line.
- 33:42It looks like a really high speed consumer electronics line.
- 33:46It's in fact, the line will move so fast that you that actually
- 33:51people can't even get close to it.
- 33:54Like that's, you know, I, I think it's, it'll be able to
- 33:57produce a car ultimately in less than 5 seconds.
- 34:01Like can imagine a car coming offline in less than 5 seconds.
- 34:05That's, that's like, whoa, which which means casting is going to
- 34:08happen fast. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:11So we, we got, we got to jam the the liquid metal in, cool it
- 34:15down real fast, like real fast. And then I guess maybe we need
- 34:20to like just get even bigger casting machines.
- 34:23Sure, why not, you know, down yeah, let's 50,000 tons, you
- 34:30know, because like then we can make with a single casting
- 34:33machine. We could do like 5 at a time or
- 34:36something, you know, trying to think like, how do you scale
- 34:41castings? Because because you got liquid
- 34:43metal, metals got a cool and you've got to automate, you
- 34:48know, getting all the bits and pieces off the casting so it's
- 34:51usable. And that's actually kind of how
- 34:55they do it in like small volume castings.
- 34:56They like do have a casting block that'll make like, you
- 34:59know, 100 matchbox cars at a time.
- 35:02And we just make that a real big.
- 35:04Yeah. I mean, we have the cathedral
- 35:07casting back there. So yeah, let's do that.
- 35:13I mean, like, let's, let's see what what is the limit of what
- 35:15is the limit of physics, of how big can a casting machine be?

- 35:32for the last eight years. It has been the most
- 35:35exhilarating 8 years of my career and truly want to thank

- 35:53I'd love to know when we can add Optimist to the family.
- 35:56Oh yeah, it's a good question. So, so this year we we hopefully
- 36:02will be able to make about 5000 optimist robots.
- 36:07We're technically we're aiming for enough parts to make 10,000,
- 36:13maybe 12,000. But since it's a totally new
- 36:16product with totally new, you know, like everything is totally
- 36:20new, I'll say like we're succeeding if we get to half of
- 36:23the 10th, you know, half the 10,000 now.
- 36:26But but even 5000 robots that that's that's the size of a
- 36:29Roman legion FY, which is like a little scary thought like a
- 36:32whole legion of robots. I'd be like, whoa, yeah, but I
- 36:37think we'll, I think we'll literally build a legion, at
- 36:39least one legion of robots this year and then probably 10
- 36:45legions next year. And I know it's kind of a cool
- 36:48unit, you know, units of legion. So probably 50,000 ish next
- 36:55year. And then it's probably ready for
- 36:58to I'm hopefully ready for optimists to be used outside of
- 37:03Tesla controlled environment or maybe around the middle of next
- 37:06year, second-half of next year sometime.
- 37:10So, so that's I think that's sounds about right.
- 37:14Probably second-half of next year is, is when they'll be
- 37:18available and then we will offer Optimus robots first to Tesla
- 37:24employees. So you guys get the priority.
- 37:34There are some pluses and minuses to that, you know,
- 37:37because that's probably have a few bugs, but but it's it's
- 37:42going to be very cool. You definitely you'll want to
- 37:45invite your friends over and say check this out.
- 37:49So that's the other questions. Hi, Elon.
- 37:54Hey, my name's Dom. I've been here for a little over
- 37:56a year now. I work in people development.
- 37:59OK, We try to, we make so many amazing things right now.
- 38:03It's still the people that do it.
- 38:04Yes. When we think about applying
- 38:06first principles to the relationships and the teams that
- 38:11people have, how would you encourage us to think about that
- 38:15and act on those first principles when it comes to
- 38:18relationships and teams? Well, I think you know that
- 38:32there, there were actually quite a few things I've written over
- 38:35the years that it would be good to compile into like AI don't
- 38:41know, booklet or something because I actually have to be
- 38:46reminded of those things myself. And I'm like, oh, I remember
- 38:48that thing that I thought of after making so many mistakes
- 38:52and, and trying to make fewer mistakes.
- 38:56So, you know, there's like, for example, I'd like 5 step process
- 38:59of like make the requirements last time and then try to delete
- 39:02the pot and process step only then optimize, only then speed
- 39:06it up. And only the first thing is
- 39:07automate. I have to repeat that to myself
- 39:10many times because I've made the mistake of doing it backwards so
- 39:12many times. And, you know, I think always
- 39:20operating on the principle that everyone is wrong to some degree
- 39:25and we should aspire to be less wrong over time, which will not
- 39:29always succeed in doing. But if you know, if two days out
- 39:34of three you're less wrong over time, you're going to be your
- 39:37batting average is going to be really good.
- 39:40So nobody ever bats 1000, but you can improve your batting
- 39:42average. So I think rigorous, you know,
- 39:49you want to critique yourself, you want to internalize
- 39:51responsibility. And these are all things I need
- 39:55to remind myself of. You know, just to be clear, I'm
- 39:57not like suggesting I internalize responsibility.
- 40:03You're less wrong. And and we should remember what
- 40:08we should remember. What is our What is our goal as
- 40:10a company? Our goal is to make amazing
- 40:12products that people love. And then to take care of those
- 40:15products, service. So we should say, what are we
- 40:17doing to make our products better, to make them more
- 40:21affordable, to have the customer experience be delightful because
- 40:29that's actually the purpose of a company.
- 40:31So as people get, why does a company exist?
- 40:33A company exists, it's a group of people collected together to
- 40:37produce a compelling product or service that others find useful
- 40:42and where the value of the product and service is greater
- 40:47than the cost of what it took to make that product to service.
- 40:51So sometimes weirdly, profit is like viewed negatively, but
- 40:54really profit is, is, is just the, the, the difference in
- 40:58value between the output and the input.
- 41:01It's like, what are the cost you to make it and what are the cost
- 41:04you and what are people prepared to, to pay for it?
- 41:07That's the value that you created.
- 41:09So it's, it's tough actually even to maintain like a 10%
- 41:15profitability, which is to make the make the output 10% more
- 41:19valuable than the input. It's actually quite hard,
- 41:22especially in the car industry, which is very competitive.
- 41:26So we're just not least sight of like, why are we here?
- 41:29We're here to make useful products that people love, you
- 41:32know, and, and take care of the cake, take care of over time.
- 41:35So then how we're doing in that respect and how can we, how can
- 41:38we do that better? So sure,
- 41:52what advice would you give? What advice would you give a
- 41:55young person like getting into the stock market like, oh, huh,
- 41:59stock advice. Wow.
- 42:00Yes, Sir, yes, Sir. As, as I, as I think people can
- 42:05can perhaps tell who are watching this, these, these,
- 42:08these questions are not prepared in advance.
- 42:13This is literally random questions from the crowd, which
- 42:16is cool. I actually, I'm fine with that.
- 42:20And, and I think the, it's going to sound very, very
- 42:24straightforward, but you want to really buy stock in companies
- 42:30where you think the, the products that that company makes
- 42:33will be better in the future. Like, like are they, is that
- 42:36company going to make more and better products or like do you
- 42:41love the products that that company makes and are they going
- 42:43to keep doing that? And, and like, I think Tesla, as
- 42:47I've just gone through Tesla's going to is, has made, has a
- 42:50track record of having made many great products and we're going
- 42:53to make many more future grade products and we're going to
- 42:57scale up production. And I think we've demonstrated a
- 43:00level of innovation that is extremely rare.
- 43:06I mean certainly by far the most innovative company in the car
- 43:09industry, like not even close type of thing.
- 43:13So you know, like I do think Tesla stock actually long, I
- 43:20think long term with Optimus and self driving, Tesla will
- 43:24probably be the most valuable company in the world.
- 43:27But there are also other companies out there that make
- 43:29great products and services. So I think that's the way you
- 43:32want to look at it, say, like, do you, do you think this part,
- 43:35because that's the reason why companies exist, is to make
- 43:37great products and services. So if you think that the company
- 43:40is going to improve over time, then buy the stock.
- 43:43And if you don't, then don't. And then the stock market is, is
- 43:47it's a very strange thing. It's kind of like, you know, I
- 43:52think it was Warren Buffett's sort of metaphor analogy is, you
- 43:59know, stock markets like having someone stand at the edge of
- 44:02your property or your house and and yell prices about to buy,
- 44:07buy or sell your house every day.
- 44:09And like, sometimes they take their meds and sometimes they
- 44:11don't, you know, So sometimes the person yelling at the price
- 44:18of your house is having a good day or, and sometimes having a
- 44:20bad day, but it's still the same house, you know, like, I'm like,
- 44:25literally still the same house. Like, you know, so Tesla stock
- 44:29goes up and it goes down, but actually it's still the same
- 44:33company. It's just people's perception of
- 44:36the future. I don't know.
- 44:38I guess it's just very emotional, you know, So, but for
- 44:44me, like, while it's difficult to predict how things will be
- 44:48from, you know, in the next day, 6 to 12 months, if you say, like
- 44:52where will things be in three years or five years?
- 44:56The future of Tesla is incredibly bright.

- 45:18Yes, you say will the robot take your job or what?
- 45:28That's a fair question. So yeah, like is a robot going
- 45:33to come and steal your job? A reasonable question.
- 45:37I think what what, what we'll find with the robots is that the
- 45:41there'll be a ratio of people to robots.
- 45:43So you you'll effectively end up having managing a group of
- 45:49robots. So, you know, you'll have like
- 45:53basically, I don't know, your flock or your little group of
- 45:56robots that you take care of and and you tell them what to do and
- 46:02I don't know, you'll have to look pack a robots basically.
- 46:07Yeah, you're promoted to manager.
- 46:11One way to think of it. And I think the same thing will
- 46:14be true of cars. Like, so for the self driving
- 46:17cars is, is that people that are say, you know, Uber drivers
- 46:22today or or something like that, or taxi drivers today will end
- 46:25up managing a fleet of, of cars and and that'll be a much more
- 46:31effective use of that time, you know, just taking care of like
- 46:341020 cars or however many they can take care of.
- 46:38So yeah. Hello.
- 46:41My name is Adrian. You said that your companies are
- 46:45made to make products people love.
- 46:48Yeah. Have you ever thought of
- 46:49airplanes or trains? Yeah, I mean, I'd love, I'd
- 46:54actually love to make airplanes especially, but stretched pretty
- 46:59thin. So I've like 17 jobs at this
- 47:07point. I just go to sleep, work, go to
- 47:09sleep for the work and then do that seven days a week pretty
- 47:11much. People say like, where do you go
- 47:14on vacation? I'm like, what's that, You know?
- 47:19But I guess I like being productive.
- 47:21I like getting things done. So I guess I could choose to be,
- 47:24like, on an island somewhere, something in Mai Tai, you know,
- 47:27with attractive people in bikinis and stuff.
- 47:31Why wait? Why am I not doing that?
- 47:34What? What a fool I've been.
- 47:40So, yeah, I've actually thought about aircraft designs for a
- 47:47long time. And I think there's an
- 47:51interesting opportunity to make like an electric supersonic
- 47:55beetle jet, you know, the vetoes, like cherry on the cake.
- 48:01But certainly electric, electric long range, fast electric
- 48:07airplane would be very cool. You know, maybe at some point
- 48:12we'll do that. Yeah, that'd be kind of fun.
- 48:17We do have the ingredients for it, so.
- 48:26And then there is the potential for thinking like pretty far
- 48:31into the future here of not a not a conventional train, but
- 48:35that sort of Hyperloop essentially vacuum tunnels, like
- 48:42tunnels where you draw a vacuum so there's no air resistance and
- 48:46you have very high speed autonomous electric pods in a
- 48:53vacuum tube vacuum tunnel. That would allow you to go from
- 48:59city center to city center much faster than any airplane could
- 49:03possibly go. Because going into the into the
- 49:07an underground vacuum tunnel would, it'd be like teleporting
- 49:11to super high altitude effectively, which no plane
- 49:15could do. And then it could deliver you
- 49:18right to the center of a city. And that, I don't know, maybe
- 49:24that's some future collaboration with Boring Company and Tesla.
- 49:28I got a million ideas. The ideas are I have more ideas
- 49:31and I know what to do with. Ideas are kind of the easy part.
- 49:34Execution is the hard part. As they say, it's 1%
- 49:37inspiration, 99% for inspiration.
- 49:42Work in manufacturing engineering since 2018.
- 49:46I've done a bunch of different things here, kind of like energy
- 49:48products, Model 3, Model wide cyber.
- 49:51And now we're looking forward to Optimus, maybe the biggest
- 49:55product ever. Yeah, it will be.
- 49:57And I think about the the mission statement of the company
- 50:00and it's evolved, it used to be a sustainable transportation,
- 50:04then sustainable energy. Is it going to evolve again?
- 50:07Are we going to reformulate that officially to kind of explain to
- 50:12the world better about how Optimus and AI folds into the
- 50:16rest of the fabric of the company?
- 50:18Yeah. I mean, I touched on this
- 50:20briefly earlier, but you're right that I think we do need to
- 50:24articulate it more prominently and maybe more often because
- 50:30it's really about sustainable abundance.
- 50:34You know, can we have a future of abundance for all that is
- 50:38also sustainable and compatible with with nature?
- 50:42So we're not destroying nature, but but you also get abundance
- 50:46for everyone on Earth. Sounds like the best possible
- 50:49future. That's what we're trying to do,

- 51:08to be in the presence of somebody that's accumulated so
- 51:11much wealth and success. So I just wanted to take this
- 51:14opportunity to ask for any wisdoms or secrets that you may
- 51:18have to offer about this game of life that we're all trying to

- 51:23I mean, I try to tell say everything that I know.
- 51:27Well, admittedly, sometimes I'm, you know, like I posted on XI
- 51:31guess should I ask the AI to look through all of my ex posts
- 51:35and pick out the ones that are really good because I try to say
- 51:40any, you know, good ideas that I have, I try to post them.
- 51:47Yeah. I think generally it's good to
- 51:49always be be curious and to, you know, to read widely.
- 51:57Like now read read a lot of interesting books, especially
- 52:00history. I find history really
- 52:02interesting and I find like biographies and autobiographies
- 52:08to be also very interesting. You know, it's, I think it's
- 52:14good to read, especially autobiographies where like, you
- 52:18know, somebody's done something incredible and they wrote, they
- 52:20wrote the book themselves or mostly themselves.
- 52:24That'll give you a lot of ideas. And I mean, something that I do
- 52:32is I'll get audio books because I got like so much going on in
- 52:36my mind when I, it's kind of hard to go to sleep because it's
- 52:39like having a computer browser with like 100 tabs open.
- 52:43That's, that's the, by the end of the day, I got like 100 tabs
- 52:46open. So I got to close this browser.
- 52:48You know, that's my brain. That's my brain.
- 52:51So then I'll listen to an audio book and I'll put it on a timer
- 52:54and it's like 15 minutes. It's like being like being read
- 52:58a bedtime story by your phone. So podcasts and and audio books,
- 53:05especially during at at bedtime or I find are great or yeah,
- 53:13sure, Sir, I can't hear you.
- 53:31Oh, there's a there's a city in South Texas which is * base.
- 53:34So it's a city for it's in fact cities.
- 53:38Maybe sound makes it sound bigger than it is, but it is
- 53:41it's a really a, a small town plus a giant rocket factory
- 53:49that's star base and it's South Texas and star base Texas right
- 53:56by the Rio Grande. And you can just literally drive
- 53:58there because it's on the like a state highway.
- 54:02So you just drive through and check it out.
- 54:06So I do own a piece of property that's just across the river.
- 54:11That's kind of cool. It used to be like a like a
- 54:14horse place, like where they would give horse riding lessons
- 54:18stuff. And at some point I think it
- 54:23would be cool to, I want to do like this gigantic art project
- 54:27there that's like a looks like an alien planet, like right
- 54:32across the river. But but like, that people could
- 54:36visit, you know, So then I might, like, live there
- 54:40occasionally. But really it's, it's a place to
- 54:43like, I don't know, to envision sort of an alien planet art
- 54:47project across the river. They're kind of cool.
- 54:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:21Do we see foresee Tesla making a product that helps how we spend
- 55:24money? Well, I think the AI is going to
- 55:29help us spend money better. It's kind of amazing, you know
- 55:35what AI can do these days. I don't know if anyone here has
- 55:37used Grok, but it's pretty cool. Grok voice can be really pretty
- 55:44great too. I try Grok unhinged.
- 55:47That's like it's guaranteed to be entertaining at a party.
- 55:50I have 1000% promise you if you, if you try grok voice unhinged
- 55:55at a party, this will be a very, it's going to be a big hit.
- 55:59So, but you can also ask it any questions.
- 56:04So like if you want to ask questions about like, you know,
- 56:08life advice or things that or anything like you can really
- 56:11ask, like you can ask it about cryptocurrency if you want.
- 56:14You're going to ask it about medical advice, you're going to
- 56:16ask any. It's actually, it's very good
- 56:19and it's getting better. So, you know, I think more use
- 56:24of try using Grok. It's like, it's really pretty
- 56:28cool. Yeah, sure.
- 56:35Cool. Yeah.
- 56:43So we're in phase three of the master plan, since master plan
- 56:50one and two have been completed. Now Master Plan Part 3 is a very
- 56:57long master plan because it's basically making all energy on
- 57:00earth sustainable, and I actually need to supplement it
- 57:07with the sort of abundance for all.
- 57:12Maybe that's master plan for I've kind of described master
- 57:18plan 4 essentially, which is like autonomous cars, autonomous
- 57:22humanoid robots. They combine that with like
- 57:28solar and battery storage and I think the future is going to be
- 57:33incredible. So I'll take a couple more
- 57:36questions and call it a night. Well, I'll ask if you haven't
- 57:40asked a question before, you can ask a question, OK.
- 57:51Oh, well, there are actually some octopus robots being both
- 57:55in Fremont right now. So we'll sure what that was.
- 58:01But so we would we expect to have an Optimus production line
- 58:08here as well. So there'll be Optimus
- 58:09production starting in in the Bay Area, and then we'll have
- 58:15the even bigger Optimist production line here in Austin.
- 58:22Yeah, it's going to be a lot of robots.
- 58:24I mean, ultimately, I mean, I think I think they'll be, we'll
- 58:32be making 10s of millions of robots a year type of thing.
- 58:35It's like serious volume, maybe 100 million robots a year.
- 58:42It's wild. Yeah.
- 58:45All right. Well, last question, OK, about
- 58:55sustainability abundance, yes. Well, yes, I mean, obviously
- 59:04utopia could be dystopia. So we have to like usually any
- 59:08story about utopia ends up being dystopia won't avoid that.
- 59:10But nonetheless, I think if you say what future, what's the
- 59:15what's the best future you can think of?
- 59:17I think a future of sustainable abundance plus space travel,
- 59:23that's pretty great. Yeah.
- 59:33Oh, we need, we need adversity. Well, I mean, you make good
- 59:45point. Like we it's like if things are
- 59:48actually get too easy, maybe we get bored and we're not really.
- 59:52You kind of want to to some degree, overcome adversity.
- 59:57You know, it's like if you play a game of some kind, you wanted
- 1:00:00the game to be not too easy and not too hard.
- 1:00:04And maybe the future will be too easy potentially is what you're
- 1:00:07saying. It's a high class problem, you
- 1:00:11know. But I think we'll still have
- 1:00:18human to human competitions. And if you look at say athletics
- 1:00:24or even mind games like chess, although computers can beat any
- 1:00:28human at chess, chess is actually at an all time high in
- 1:00:32popularity. And although, you know, cars can
- 1:00:35go faster than any humans, we still have athletic sports where
- 1:00:40humans compete against each other.
- 1:00:42So I think we'll still have human versus human
- 1:00:45competitiveness. I think long term we'll also
- 1:00:51have enhancement of humans or optionally if somebody wants to
- 1:00:56enhance like have like cybernetic enhancements, like
- 1:00:59with neuro link, you know, if you want to go go cybernetic and
- 1:01:05I don't know, maybe have like super intelligence and be able
- 1:01:09to see, you know, in different wavelengths.
- 1:01:14We we could absolutely provide superhuman abilities via via
- 1:01:18neural link in the future. So one thing's for sure, the
- 1:01:25future is going to be very interesting.
- 1:01:30In fact, I think the most generally, I find that the most
- 1:01:33interesting outcome is the most likely.
- 1:01:38Or said another way, maybe the most entertaining outcome,
- 1:01:42especially if ironic, is the most likely.
- 1:01:47It's almost like we're in a alien Netflix series that's
- 1:01:51trying to have the highest possible ratings.
- 1:01:55And, and like, if you think about it like that's kind of
- 1:01:58what happens, you know it, which it doesn't mean it's always
- 1:02:01good. Because to your point, if you
- 1:02:05wouldn't really want to watch a show where things are great and
- 1:02:08stay great, like, oh, that's boring.
- 1:02:10You want to watch a show where there's like a narrative arc
- 1:02:14where things go up and they go down, they go back up again.
- 1:02:18And you know what, you don't exactly what's going to happen
- 1:02:20next. And I think we might be in an
- 1:02:25alien Netflix series here. So we're just going to keep the
- 1:02:28ratings up so we don't get canceled.
