- 0:00Speaker 1: Three pilots from a disastrous expedition have been recovered. One
- 0:04Speaker 1: remains unaccounted for in the distant Draxok galaxy. On January 8th, 1955,
- 0:11Speaker 1: ABC brought listeners Space Patrol, episode 119, Prison Planet. Commander
- 0:18Speaker 1: Buzz Corey and Cadet Happy, played by Ed Kemmer and
- 0:22Speaker 1: Lynn Osborne, take the terrifying half a million light years
- 0:26Speaker 1: beyond the United Planets to search for the missing flyer.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Their mission brings them into the reach of Mecker, guardian
- 0:33Speaker 1: of the Draxok galaxy, in a story from writer Lou
- 0:37Speaker 1: Houston with Larry Robertson directing. And now, the original broadcast.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Nestle's Ever Ready, the instant cocoa, Nestle's Quick for great
- 0:53Speaker 1: chocolate milk, and Nestle's Chocolate Bars now present Space Patrol.
- 1:01Speaker 2: High adventure in the wild, vast reaches of space.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Missions of daring in the name of interplanetary justice.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Travel into the future with Buzz Corey, Commander-in-Chief of the
- 1:12Speaker 1: Space Patrol.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Space Patrol.
- 1:17Speaker 1: In today's transcribed space patrol adventure, Buzz and Happy are
- 1:20Speaker 1: in their spaceship approaching a planet in a remote solar system.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Commander, where did that thing come from?
- 1:27Speaker 2: It's a glowing object. It's headed right towards us.
- 1:30Speaker 3: A meteor.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Meteors don't glow in space.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It's getting brighter. It's a ball of fire. There's another one.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Where in the universe are they coming from? It's a weapon.
- 1:39Speaker 5: A weapon?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Then it's some of MAKOR's work.
- 1:42Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Trying to make good as a threat to destroy us.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a moment with a thrilling story,
- 1:50Speaker 1: Prison Planet.
- 1:55Speaker 3: It's quicker than a jet flight. It's quicker than the
- 2:00Speaker 3: speed of light.
- 2:02Speaker 7: It's Nestle's Quick, the miracle product that mixes so quick
- 2:06Speaker 7: it gives you chocolate milk in seconds. Fellas and girls,
- 2:11Speaker 7: have you tried instant Nestle's Quick? Nothing was ever so speedy.
- 2:15Speaker 7: Here's all you have to do to get perfect chocolate milk. First,
- 2:17Speaker 7: pour out your big, cold, frosty glass of milk. Then
- 2:20Speaker 7: add two teaspoons of Nestle's Quick.
- 2:22Speaker 3: That's right.
- 2:23Speaker 7: You pour the milk first. Then you add Quick. Spoon
- 2:26Speaker 7: it around once or twice, and there's your chocolate milk. Boy,
- 2:28Speaker 7: it practically makes it sound. And where do you taste
- 2:33Speaker 7: that flavor? Quick is just like those great Nestle's chocolate bars. Yes, sir,
- 2:37Speaker 7: it's got that special Nestle's chocolate flavor, that special Nestle's
- 2:40Speaker 7: chocolate richness, that special Nestle's chocolate smoothness. It's a real
- 2:45Speaker 7: soda fountain treat right in your own home. You're going
- 2:47Speaker 7: to love having wonderful Nestle's Quick with meals, for snacks,
- 2:50Speaker 7: and before bedtime. And you can tell Mom that Quick
- 2:53Speaker 7: is good for you because it's fortified with vitamin D.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And the more Quick you drink, the more milk you drink.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So Mom's sure to approve.
- 3:00Speaker 7: Ask her to get that big brown and yellow can
- 3:02Speaker 7: of Nestle's Quick, and then you can join all the
- 3:05Speaker 7: space patrollers in the most delicious, most chocolate, quickest treat
- 3:08Speaker 7: in the universe.
- 3:11Speaker 2: That's Q-U-I-K, Nestle's Quick.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And now, today's space patrol adventure, Prison Planet. Boson Happy
- 3:22Speaker 1: have returned to the Graxok star system half a million
- 3:26Speaker 1: light years from the United Planets to search for the
- 3:28Speaker 1: one remaining pilot of an ill-fated expedition. Three other pilots
- 3:33Speaker 1: have already been found and have returned safely to Terra.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Boson Happy realize.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That every moment spent in the unfriendly galaxy means increased peril,
- 3:41Speaker 1: for Makor, guardian of the star system, has sworn to
- 3:44Speaker 1: destroy them. While Happy watches the viewscopes for unfriendly ships,
- 3:49Speaker 1: Buzz makes repeated attempts to contact the missing Space Patrol
- 3:52Speaker 1: pilot by space accord.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Commander Corey aboard Terrified calling Lieutenant Stitter, element four of
- 3:58Speaker 6: Expedition Enigma.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Commander Corey calling Lieutenant Stitter.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter, barrel five.
- 4:04Speaker 3: You got him.
- 4:04Speaker 6: This section's terrible, and I keep watching those views until
- 4:07Speaker 6: I try again.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 4:08Speaker 2: There's no sighting so far. Corey to Lieutenant Stitter. Your
- 4:11Speaker 2: signal is very weak.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Keep talking. Repeat. Keep talking. We'll try to get a
- 4:15Speaker 3: fix on your signal.
- 4:17Speaker 5: I read you faithfully, Commander. Would you repeat your orders?
- 4:20Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter requesting repeat on orders from Commander Corey.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Stitter must be thousands of D.U.
- 4:26Speaker 3: 's away.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Yes, and Mako is causing the interference. Is that deflector
- 4:29Speaker 6: field again, huh? If we don't contact Stitter soon and
- 4:31Speaker 6: get into Star Drive, Mako will be coming after us.
- 4:34Speaker 6: I wish we could make him listen to reason.
- 4:35Speaker 4: He won't happen.
- 4:36Speaker 6: He broke his word with us, and we outsmarted him
- 4:38Speaker 6: and hurt his pride. He won't be satisfied until he
- 4:40Speaker 6: gets his revenge. I guess there are characters like that
- 4:42Speaker 6: in every galaxy. I'd better try to reach Stitter again.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Commander Corey calling Lieutenant Stitter of Expedition Enigma.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Elsewhere in the defense headquarters of the Draxok star system, Maekor,
- 4:58Speaker 1: guardian of the galaxy, confers with his chief aide, Cendrana.
- 5:02Speaker 8: I've marked the star chart, Cendrana. This point indicates Corey's position.
- 5:06Speaker 8: And the other intruder? The second ship is 40,000 omegas
- 5:11Speaker 8: away from Corey.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Its vector is indicated by this arrow. I see.
- 5:14Speaker 9: And Corey is in communication with the other ship.
- 5:17Speaker 3: To a very limited extent. Our deflector field is working
- 5:21Speaker 3: quite successfully.
- 5:23Speaker 9: It may be possible to send some of our ships
- 5:25Speaker 9: after Cory and destroy him before he escapes from our galaxy.
- 5:28Speaker 3: No one is going to get Cory but me. You understand?
- 5:32Speaker 8: My own personal reputation depends on it. I've got the
- 5:35Speaker 8: entire plan worked out. First, we will capture this, uh,
- 5:39Speaker 8: Lieutenant Stitter and his ship.
- 5:41Speaker 3: That will be simple. Then we can turn our full
- 5:44Speaker 3: efforts into getting Cory.
- 5:46Speaker 9: You say it will be simple to capture the other ship?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yes. Look at its vector. It is heading towards Zirgor.
- 5:53Speaker 3: The prison planet? That's right.
- 5:55Speaker 8: A maximum security base. A planet from which no news
- 6:00Speaker 8: leads to.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The rest of the galaxy. Except by my authority. Yes,
- 6:05Speaker 3: but I don't see how we can possibly.
- 6:07Speaker 8: We will order this unwelcome visitor to lend on Zirgor.
- 6:12Speaker 3: We do it. I got it all figured out. Now listen...
- 6:18Speaker 3: Corey can contact Stitter, but we can't.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter, Element 4 of Expedition Addictment calling Commander Corey
- 6:24Speaker 5: aboard the Terra 5.
- 6:26Speaker 8: An urgent message to Lieutenant Stitter of the United Planets Expedition.
- 6:30Speaker 8: This is Maycore, Guardian of the Galaxy. I want to
- 6:34Speaker 8: help you.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Please acknowledge.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter here. You say you're the Guardian of the Galaxy?
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:42Speaker 8: I am in charge of defenses of this star system,
- 6:45Speaker 8: the region of space you're in now. I've already had
- 6:48Speaker 8: contact with your Commander Corey, and know that he's looking
- 6:51Speaker 8: for you.
- 6:52Speaker 3: We promise to give him all the help possible.
- 6:55Speaker 5: That's certainly welcome news. Say, is it possible for you
- 6:58Speaker 5: to relay a message to my commanding officer?
- 7:00Speaker 8: No, not at present, on account of those solar radiations.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I offer a suggestion if you see fit to follow it.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Since you're working with Commander Corey and I'm lost, the
- 7:11Speaker 5: best thing is to let you give the orders.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Why, thank you, Lieutenant. It will be easier that way.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I believe I know your present position.
- 7:19Speaker 8: There should be a yellow star approximately 20 degrees to
- 7:24Speaker 8: the right of your present heading.
- 7:26Speaker 5: It's 23 degrees by my estimates.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Good.
- 7:30Speaker 8: You're near the planet Zirgal. Make a landing on that planet.
- 7:34Speaker 8: Then we'll notify Commander Pory where to find you.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Planet inhabited?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yes, but by a very primitive civilization.
- 7:41Speaker 8: And I suggest that you carefully avoid.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Any settlements for fear of alarming the natives.
- 7:47Speaker 4: I understand.
- 7:48Speaker 8: And I'll contact you later and help you establish your
- 7:51Speaker 8: exact position on the planet, so Commander Corey can locate
- 7:54Speaker 8: you without any trouble.
- 7:55Speaker 5: I'm very grateful, Maker.
- 7:57Speaker 8: Oh, this star system is always happy to help friendly visitors, Lieutenant. Now,
- 8:02Speaker 8: don't be concerned about it, Commander. I'll personally take care
- 8:05Speaker 8: of everything. And I wish you a safe landing on Virgo.
- 8:12Speaker 3: There, Cinderella. You see?
- 8:15Speaker 9: I still don't like the idea of sending him to
- 8:17Speaker 9: the prison planet. The prison authorities see his ship and
- 8:20Speaker 9: they'll report it. Didn't you hear me tell the stupid
- 8:22Speaker 9: lieutenant to avoid all settlement? He'll never know he's landing
- 8:26Speaker 9: on a prison planet. Until later, when we have him
- 8:29Speaker 9: locked up.
- 8:30Speaker 3: It would be better to do away with him.
- 8:32Speaker 8: Suppose he talks, Dan. We would understand him without a translator.
- 8:36Speaker 8: And there are no electronic translators on.
- 8:38Speaker 3: This prison planet. It would be foolish to do away
- 8:41Speaker 3: with him.
- 8:42Speaker 8: Because we may need him later if we decide to
- 8:45Speaker 8: attack Korin's solar system.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I realize no one has ever returned from Zergol in
- 8:49Speaker 3: the 12 Tarbans that has been operating as a prison. Right.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Not even the guards and official personnel.
- 8:56Speaker 8: And the pilots who bring new prisoners there are not
- 8:58Speaker 8: allowed to leave the ship. They must return without setting
- 9:01Speaker 8: foot on Zergol.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And Then you're sure there's nothing to worry about? Nothing, Simran.
- 9:07Speaker 3: We'll capture our lieutenant and his spaceship. And then we'll
- 9:10Speaker 3: go after Commander Corey. Now come. Let's go to our
- 9:13Speaker 3: ship and best off for Zirgal.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Still encountering bad reception, Buzz and Happy continue their attempts
- 9:22Speaker 1: to contact Lieutenant Stitter.
- 9:24Speaker 2: This is the direction Stitter seemed to be heading.
- 9:26Speaker 3: We need to change back there. A deflector may cause
- 9:29Speaker 3: us throwing instruments way off. Uh-oh. There's something in the viewscope, sir.
- 9:32Speaker 3: A ship?
- 9:33Speaker 9: No, sir, it's too big.
- 9:34Speaker 3: A giant meteor, maybe. A small moon, a satellite of
- 9:37Speaker 3: that kind. Sure, that's probably it.
- 9:39Speaker 6: If we can contact Stitter again, we can use a
- 9:41Speaker 6: sort of planetary system as a reference point. Mendicore aboard
- 9:44Speaker 6: Terra 5 calling Lieutenant Stitter. Mendicore aboard Terra.
- 9:48Speaker 3: 5 calling Lieutenant Stitter.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Some distance from Zergol, Makor and Sindrana adjust a special
- 9:57Speaker 1: device on their spacephone that modifies.
- 9:59Speaker 3: The deflector field. Two moments later, they establish contact with
- 10:03Speaker 3: Lieutenant Stitter. Have you landed yet, Lieutenant Stitter?
- 10:06Speaker 5: No, Makor. I'm flying at low altitude over a mountain range,
- 10:10Speaker 5: looking for a place to set down.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Are you near a settlement of any kind?
- 10:14Speaker 5: I don't think so. I made a careful check by
- 10:16Speaker 5: a viewscope at high altitude before I came in low.
- 10:19Speaker 3: That's excellent.
- 10:20Speaker 8: Now, from your space-aphone signal, you appear to be on
- 10:24Speaker 8: the bright side of Zirgal.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Correct. The sun is right overhead.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Have you observed the large body of water?
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yes, but it's beyond the horizon now. It's several hundreds
- 10:33Speaker 5: of what we call miles to my right.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Then you are over an entirely unpopulated region, Lieutenant. Lend
- 10:40Speaker 3: them the first suitable place you see.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Very good, Major.
- 10:43Speaker 8: After your landing is secured, space-aphone me.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I'll have no difficulty finding you.
- 10:48Speaker 5: How about Commander Croy? Has he contacted again?
- 10:50Speaker 3: No, but don't worry. One of our communication centers is
- 10:54Speaker 3: certain to reach him soon. Make or hide. There you are, Cendrana.
- 11:00Speaker 3: That ship and its pilot are as good as in
- 11:02Speaker 3: our hands. The plan is working out very well, Mako.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I confess that I'm... Cendrana, the viewscope. It's a spaceship. Yes,
- 11:11Speaker 3: and on a vector towards Zergoth. Possibly one of our
- 11:14Speaker 3: own prison ships. If there were prisoners being consigned to Zirgal,
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'd known about it. A supply ship, then?
- 11:21Speaker 8: The prison senate has been self-supporting for the last two Tarvans.
- 11:25Speaker 8: It must be Corrie. He has managed to get some
- 11:28Speaker 8: sort of a fix on Stitter's signal.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I hope he hasn't overheard our conversations with Stitter. If
- 11:33Speaker 3: he has, there's nothing he can do about it. He'll
- 11:36Speaker 3: never reach Zirgal. How are we going to stop him?
- 11:39Speaker 3: It's not wise to engage Corey in combat. We've learned
- 11:41Speaker 3: that fact. We won't need to get closer to him
- 11:43Speaker 3: than we are now.
- 11:44Speaker 8: Not if we use the Dero projectiles.
- 11:51Speaker 9: It's forbidden to use the Dero projectiles except in the
- 11:54Speaker 9: most extreme emergency.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Well, isn't this one?
- 11:58Speaker 9: Yes, but you must have permission from the Supreme Consul
- 12:01Speaker 9: of the Galaxy. That would mean telling them there are
- 12:04Speaker 9: alien ships in our star system. I was able to
- 12:06Speaker 9: obtain the Deiro project, pal, without a formality. The Supreme
- 12:10Speaker 9: Council will never know. Take the control, Syndrano.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I will launch.
- 12:20Speaker 4: The.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm sure that was the Spitter we heard a moment ago.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Want to stay on this vector, sir?
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It'll take us close to that planet.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Man, that's not so safe.
- 12:27Speaker 3: The Mako are looking for us. Maybe the planet's uninhabited.
- 12:29Speaker 3: We can only contact Spitter before Mako's tipped off. Hey, Commander.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Commander, look.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Where did that thing come from?
- 12:34Speaker 9: It's glowing.
- 12:36Speaker 3: It's headed right towards us. A meteor. Meteors don't glow
- 12:39Speaker 3: in space. And a meteor would have registered on our viewscopes.
- 12:42Speaker 3: It's getting brighter. It's a ball of fire. There's another one.
- 12:45Speaker 3: We'll change our course.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Where in the universe are they coming from? All of
- 12:48Speaker 7: a sudden, two flaming blobs appear out of nothing. Hey,
- 12:52Speaker 7: they're changing course too, Commander.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Both of them swerved when we did.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Either they're attracted to us or... Or they're under some
- 12:58Speaker 2: sort of control.
- 12:59Speaker 3: It's a weapon.
- 13:00Speaker 2: There must be some of Nacor's work.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Right. He's trying to make good his threat to destroy us.
- 13:03Speaker 3: They're gaining on us, sir. What are we going to do?
- 13:10Speaker 1: We'll return to Space Patrol in just a moment. Say, Tony,
- 13:15Speaker 1: did I hear you telling the gang that you have
- 13:17Speaker 1: a soda fountain.
- 13:17Speaker 3: At your house? That's right, Captain Tufel.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Well, don't you think that's exaggerating just a little bit?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Gee whiz, no.
- 13:25Speaker 10: My mom always keeps plenty of Nestle's Quick in our galley.
- 13:28Speaker 10: And that's just like having a soda fountain. Because I
- 13:30Speaker 10: can make up real chocolate milk just like a soda
- 13:33Speaker 10: fountain treat anytime I like.
- 13:35Speaker 3: You see? Well, I guess I can't argue with that, Tony.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Nestle's Quick is the greatest treat in the universe because
- 13:41Speaker 1: it makes the greatest chocolate milk in the universe.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Imagine being able to.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Fix chocolate milk with the same wonderful rich flavor as
- 13:49Speaker 1: your favorite Nestle's chocolate bars right in your house.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And you can fix it just as quick as that.
- 13:55Speaker 10: All you have to do is pour out your glass
- 13:56Speaker 10: of milk, add two spoonfuls of Nestle's Quick, Put it
- 14:00Speaker 10: around once or twice, and it's ready to drink.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And you know, Nestle's Quick has plenty of what it
- 14:05Speaker 1: takes to help build sound teeth and bones.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Plenty of vitamin D.
- 14:09Speaker 10: Another thing that's good is the more Quick you drink,
- 14:12Speaker 10: the more milk you're drinking.
- 14:14Speaker 3: And that's great for all us space patrollers.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yes, everybody could have a soda fountain at home by
- 14:19Speaker 1: just asking Mom to bring home the big brown and
- 14:22Speaker 1: yellow can of Nestle's Quick. Then anytime you like meals
- 14:26Speaker 1: or snacks, you can fix yourself a real chocolate treat,
- 14:30Speaker 1: Nestle's Quick.
- 14:32Speaker 10: If you're like all us space patrollers, you'll love Nestle's Quick.
- 14:36Speaker 10: That's Q-U-I-K, Nestle's Quick. Boy, is it chocolatey and good.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And now, back to our space patrol adventure, Prison Planet. Makor,
- 14:52Speaker 1: guardian of the galaxy, has tricked Space Patrol Lieutenant Snidder
- 14:55Speaker 1: into landing in a deserted section of Zergol, a prison planet.
- 15:00Speaker 1: When Makor and his chief aide, Syndrana, saw Commander Corey's
- 15:03Speaker 1: ship approaching Zergol.
- 15:04Speaker 3: He fired two day-roll projectiles at the Terra-5.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Wasn't happy to realize their danger, but so far are
- 15:10Speaker 1: unable to escape the strange flaming projectiles by evasive action.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We'll just have to try to outrun them, Happy.
- 15:16Speaker 2: How about going into star drive? Maybe we'd be safe
- 15:18Speaker 2: in hyperspace. We'd be plunging into an unknown dimension with
- 15:20Speaker 2: no hope of finding our way back.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Wow, those fireballs are gaining on us.
- 15:24Speaker 2: They're getting bigger, growing in size. Maybe they'll burn themselves
- 15:27Speaker 2: out before they hit us.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I'm afraid not, Happy.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That weapon is some strange energy force. I think it
- 15:32Speaker 2: feeds the travel.
- 15:33Speaker 3: On what?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Microscopic particles in space. And we're a giant particle, so
- 15:36Speaker 2: it's chasing us.
- 15:37Speaker 7: If we can't dodge them or outrun them, what are
- 15:39Speaker 7: we going to do?
- 15:39Speaker 2: Happy, what's the simplest way you know to get a
- 15:41Speaker 2: bone away from a hungry dog?
- 15:43Speaker 6: Gee, I don't know.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Unless it's to offer him a bigger bone.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 15:46Speaker 3: It's just what we're going to do now.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Huh?
- 15:48Speaker 6: We're going to offer those hungry blobs of energy a
- 15:50Speaker 6: bigger bone. We're changing vector to head right for that
- 15:52Speaker 6: small moon.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Will they go after the moon?
- 15:54Speaker 4: They may.
- 15:54Speaker 6: The moon's small, but gigantic in comparison with our ship.
- 15:57Speaker 6: We're going to have to rely on instruments at this velocity.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 16:00Speaker 3: We'll have to work fast.
- 16:01Speaker 2: You'll compute the moon's orbit.
- 16:03Speaker 6: We'll leave it up to the automatic pilot control to
- 16:05Speaker 6: skim us close to the moon's surface.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Wow, this computer better work fast. The fireballs are really
- 16:09Speaker 2: closing in.
- 16:14Speaker 3: We've done all we can, Hap. We might as well relax.
- 16:17Speaker 3: I think I must have fed the wrong data into
- 16:18Speaker 3: the computer, Commander. I think we're going to crash. We've
- 16:20Speaker 3: played our hand, Hap. If we tamper with the controls now,
- 16:22Speaker 3: we might really make an error. Here we go.
- 16:25Speaker 4: You can open your eyes now, Captain.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Huh?
- 16:37Speaker 3: Didn't... didn't... We missed the moon. How about those fireballs?
- 16:42Speaker 2: They've changed course with the moon.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Of the career bluestone. The rocket's at work.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I wonder what'll happen when they collide with it.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Oh, look at that. The whole moon is burning up.
- 16:55Speaker 3: It isn't the moon any longer. It's a sun.
- 16:57Speaker 2: A miniature star.
- 16:58Speaker 9: Wow.
- 16:59Speaker 3: That's what would've happened to us. Look at our instruments.
- 17:01Speaker 3: They're picking up all kinds of wild radiation.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I'll bet we couldn't pick up a space-phone signal from
- 17:07Speaker 3: Snitter now if he was in the next compartment.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Maycore is probably a few D.U.s away trying to figure
- 17:11Speaker 2: out what happened.
- 17:11Speaker 3: We'll cross over to the other side of the moon's
- 17:13Speaker 3: orbit and hide out there. Macon, you destroyed the moon.
- 17:21Speaker 9: The Darrow projectiles destroyed the moon.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Stop gibbering. The important question is, did we get Corey?
- 17:26Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter calling Macon, guardian of the galaxy. Lieutenant Stitter
- 17:30Speaker 5: calling Macon, guardian of the galaxy.
- 17:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of interference considering how close we are
- 17:34Speaker 3: to the planet. It's the Darrow radiation. Maker to Lieutenant Stitter,
- 17:39Speaker 3: have you landed? Yes.
- 17:40Speaker 5: My ship is on a grassy plain near a wooded section. Good.
- 17:44Speaker 8: Keep reporting at intervals. We will locate your exact position
- 17:48Speaker 8: by your signal.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Very good, Maker. Any word from Commander Corey?
- 17:52Speaker 3: There is nothing to worry about now, Lieutenant.
- 17:54Speaker 8: Just keep in contact and we'll have you in safe
- 17:56Speaker 8: hands in a very short time.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Maker out. You'll be in safe hands, all right. The
- 18:03Speaker 3: hands of the guards of the prison, Blackie.
- 18:10Speaker 1: From his grounded ship on the planet Zurgau, Lieutenant Stitter
- 18:13Speaker 1: continues his periodic messages to his supposed rescuers. Finally, a
- 18:17Speaker 1: strange ship appears over the horizon and lands a few
- 18:20Speaker 1: yards from his own.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Two men emerge from the ship and walk toward his
- 18:25Speaker 3: space patrol cruiser.
- 18:27Speaker 1: As Stitter turns to open the hatch to welcome them,
- 18:29Speaker 1: a signal light flickers on the spaceophone panel and a
- 18:32Speaker 1: buzzer sounds. Surprised, Lieutenant Stitter steps to the spaceophone and
- 18:36Speaker 1: quickly turns to a special frequency.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Port Terra 5 calling Lieutenant Stitter. Urgent. Commander Corey to
- 18:44Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Lieutenant Stitter here, Commander.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Stitter, you're in danger. Blast off immediately.
- 18:49Speaker 4: In danger?
- 18:50Speaker 3: Well, there's some mistake, sir.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I've been in contact with the Guardian of the Galaxy.
- 18:54Speaker 2: He's ready to rescue me.
- 18:55Speaker 5: He's tricked you. Get off that planet before he lands.
- 18:57Speaker 3: But the ship has already landed. In fact, there are
- 18:59Speaker 3: two men about to come aboard. They'll be in here
- 19:01Speaker 3: before I can blast off.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Are they in spaces?
- 19:04Speaker 3: No, sir.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Then you won't need one either. Get out of that ship.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Run to the cargo hold and go out to the
- 19:08Speaker 5: emergency hatch. Don't try to fight them.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I think they're entering the airlock now, sir.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Hurry, Stitter. Take a miniature space-o-phone. We'll find you and
- 19:15Speaker 5: pick you up.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Hurry up. That's strange. He's not in the control compartment.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Wait a minute. Look out through the port. He left
- 19:39Speaker 3: the ship. Yes, he's running toward the woods. Maybe he's suspicious.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I'll go after him. You return to our ship and
- 19:45Speaker 3: wait for me. Terrible.
- 19:50Speaker 1: 5 flies low over the planet Zirgo while Buzz and
- 19:53Speaker 1: Happy scan the ground with a telescopic view scope.
- 19:56Speaker 3: I sure hope Spitter got away.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Can't we try to contact him now, sir?
- 19:59Speaker 3: All right, Happy. We don't want to try too soon.
- 20:02Speaker 2: By now, he's either captured by Makar or he's far
- 20:04Speaker 2: enough away to.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Risk talking to us.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Commander Corey calling Lieutenant Spitter.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Corey to Spitter.
- 20:11Speaker 6: If you read me but can't answer, we're looking for you.
- 20:13Speaker 3: And we'll keep looking till we find you. I hate
- 20:15Speaker 3: to think of what Maker will do to him if
- 20:16Speaker 3: he catches me.
- 20:17Speaker 6: Judging by the fabulous space-going conversation we have accepted, Maker
- 20:20Speaker 6: wants Stitter along with him.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I sure hope so.
- 20:22Speaker 4: I'll try again.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Vendor Corey calling Lieutenant Stitter.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Lieutenant Stitter here, Commander. Everything's all right.
- 20:29Speaker 3: You got away from Maker? Yes, sir.
- 20:31Speaker 5: I just ran into the woods. I'm all right now.
- 20:34Speaker 5: This is a wonderful planet. Wonderful. I never felt the
- 20:37Speaker 5: good of my life.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Stitter, listen. You're still in danger. Give me a few
- 20:40Speaker 3: landmarks so I can find you.
- 20:42Speaker 5: Never mind, Commander. I don't want to leave this place ever.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Stitter, what's wrong with you?
- 20:47Speaker 4: What?
- 20:48Speaker 5: Nothing's wrong. Absolutely nothing. What could possibly be wrong in
- 20:53Speaker 5: this beautiful, wonderful world?
- 20:55Speaker 3: Stitter.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Lieutenant Stitter, you're still under orders.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I demand an explanation.
- 20:59Speaker 5: Nothing to explain, Commander. I like it here, that's all.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Thanks for your trouble, sir. Goodbye. Stitter out.
- 21:05Speaker 3: What's that in there? Hey, I know. A makeover study
- 21:09Speaker 3: and making him put on an act. That is no way.
- 21:11Speaker 3: For some reason, he just wasn't going to do this.
- 21:13Speaker 3: What's the matter?
- 21:14Speaker 9: Look.
- 21:15Speaker 2: There are two ships down there. Yes, sir.
- 21:20Speaker 3: And beyond it, in the clearing, there's a man. Just
- 21:23Speaker 3: a few scopes, sir.
- 21:24Speaker 4: A little more. There.
- 21:27Speaker 3: It's Stitter, sir. See? Space patrol uniform. There's room in
- 21:30Speaker 3: the clearing to set the ship down. While I land
- 21:31Speaker 3: the ship, you check the atmosphere sample we scooped up.
- 21:34Speaker 3: The air must be okay, sir.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Lieutenant Stitter didn't complain about it.
- 21:36Speaker 3: No, he certainly didn't. Make that test after.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Using the rappel array, Buzz brings the Terra 5 in
- 21:46Speaker 1: on a vertical descent into the clearing.
- 21:49Speaker 3: As they leave the ship and approach the Lieutenant.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Stitter leans against a tree and watches them with amused interest.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Lieutenant Stitter. Hi, Commander. Hello, Happy. Lieutenant. Come on, Lieutenant.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Let's get into the ship. Why is everybody so serious?
- 22:05Speaker 6: This is a glorious planet. Why would anyone want to
- 22:08Speaker 6: leave it? Still, you're being affected by the atmosphere. There's
- 22:11Speaker 6: a gas in the air that tests similar to nitrous oxide.
- 22:15Speaker 6: sometimes called laughing gas. It gives you a false feeling
- 22:18Speaker 6: of well-being.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Isn't it great, Commander? That dragon will carry him aboard.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Yes, sir. Don't hurt him.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Remember, he can't help the way he's acting.
- 22:23Speaker 2: If you don't get aboard that ship right away, you'll
- 22:26Speaker 2: be just like him.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Come on, Lieutenant. Easy now. All three of you, turn
- 22:30Speaker 3: around and raise your hand. I warn you, don't force
- 22:33Speaker 3: me to use this weapon. Easy, sir.
- 22:36Speaker 8: Well, I see you have your translating devices with you.
- 22:40Speaker 3: That will make it easier for both of us. Come on.
- 22:43Speaker 3: We're going on a walk through the woods. To my ship.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Why is everybody so anxious to leave this wonderful world?
- 22:49Speaker 3: Don't worry. You'll be back. You'll be here permanently, Lieutenant. Hey, great!
- 22:54Speaker 8: You won't think it's so funny when you find out
- 22:56Speaker 8: what Zergol really is.
- 22:58Speaker 3: It's a prison planet. This is a prison planet? Yes.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Some distance from.
- 23:03Speaker 8: Here is the Guarded Prison. It was built by prison
- 23:06Speaker 8: labor from other planets. And no one who has been
- 23:09Speaker 8: brought to Zergol has.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Ever left it.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Now, I call that a mighty nice arrangement. For you, perhaps.
- 23:15Speaker 3: But not for Corey and the cadets.
- 23:17Speaker 8: After I get what information I want from them, they
- 23:19Speaker 8: will be destroyed.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Now, come on, all of you.
- 23:22Speaker 6: He's running things as if nothing happened.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yes, sir. First, I'd better relieve you of your weapons.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Just keep your hands raised. That's it, Commander. Now, you cadets.
- 23:34Speaker 3: And don't move or I'll bust you to bits.
- 23:36Speaker 7: Hey, Commander, how come the atmosphere doesn't make this guy good-natured?
- 23:39Speaker 7: He's been exposed as long as Lieutenant Spitter. He's fighting
- 23:41Speaker 7: it like we are. Spitter was caught off guard and
- 23:43Speaker 7: didn't realize what was happening.
- 23:45Speaker 3: All right, let's go. Stand right where you are.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Are you there with the blaster?
- 23:48Speaker 3: Drop it. Stranger has you covered, Makor. He's right behind you. Well,
- 23:51Speaker 3: that's wonderful advice, Makor. Drop it. Very well. Do you
- 23:57Speaker 3: know who I am? Of course. You're Makor, Guardian of
- 24:00Speaker 3: the Galaxy. And you, obviously, are an escaped prisoner.
- 24:04Speaker 8: If you don't put down that weapon and let me go,
- 24:06Speaker 8: you will be in for severe punishment.
- 24:09Speaker 3: You won't think it's so funny when the guards catch you.
- 24:12Speaker 3: The guards? Maycore, listen, I am a guard. Yannick, the guard. Ridiculous.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Why are you wearing your prisoner's uniform, then? I like
- 24:20Speaker 3: to change off. I'm a guard, all right.
- 24:22Speaker 9: It's my job to keep nosy officials like you from
- 24:25Speaker 9: interfering with the happiest planet in the galaxy.
- 24:27Speaker 8: Commander, this is a madman. Help me escape from him,
- 24:30Speaker 8: and I'll let you return to your home planet.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Nobody leaves Zurg off. It would spoil everything.
- 24:34Speaker 6: What do you mean, spoil everything?
- 24:36Speaker 3: Isn't this a prison, Planet? Oh, not to us.
- 24:39Speaker 9: We have plenty to eat and practically no work to do.
- 24:41Speaker 9: Zurgol is a paradise. I was in one of the
- 24:44Speaker 9: original workers who was sent here to build a prison.
- 24:46Speaker 3: When we saw what we had here, we invented a
- 24:48Speaker 3: little scheme to keep Zurgol a paradise. This is impossible.
- 24:52Speaker 8: Zurgol is a maximum security prison. The worst criminals in
- 24:55Speaker 8: the galaxy are sent here.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yes, it's our only source of immigration.
- 24:59Speaker 2: If the truth ever got out about Zurgall, it would
- 25:02Speaker 2: be swamped with honest people.
- 25:03Speaker 3: In a short time, there would be a shortage of food. Fighting, robbery,
- 25:06Speaker 3: murder would be everywhere. You mean there's no crime here now?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Why should there be? There's plenty for all.
- 25:12Speaker 9: If any man has any tendency to be nasty, the
- 25:14Speaker 9: effects of the atmosphere makes him a pretty jolly citizen
- 25:16Speaker 9: after a few days.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I wouldn't stay here. I can't stay here. Yes, Mako.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You're afraid the people you falsely accused of crime will
- 25:23Speaker 3: get revenge. But don't worry. You'll be safe. We have
- 25:26Speaker 3: a saying here that everything grows on Zurgall.
- 25:28Speaker 6: But he I understand the reason you want no one
- 25:31Speaker 6: to leave, General, but we three are from another galaxy.
- 25:33Speaker 3: All we want is to return home.
- 25:35Speaker 2: We'll never reveal your secret or bother you, I promise.
- 25:38Speaker 9: Something tells me you're sincere, but my duty to the
- 25:41Speaker 9: others forces me to make you stay.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I assure you, after a while, you won't want to leave.
- 25:45Speaker 3: That's not the point.
- 25:46Speaker 9: We have our duty to our solar system, just as
- 25:48Speaker 9: you have to your planet. What else could you ask
- 25:51Speaker 9: of life than to live on Zergon?
- 25:53Speaker 3: Look around you. At the trees, the flowers, the blue skies.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Take that weapon, John. Pat, pick up your gun. Keep
- 25:59Speaker 3: him covered. Yes, sir.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Thank you, Corey.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Now I'll give this convict a lesson in respect. Laker.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Laker, break it up.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Let go of him. I'll give him a thrashing, you'll remember. No,
- 26:08Speaker 3: you won't. Did he hurt you, Janet? Not much. Thanks
- 26:14Speaker 3: for taking him off me. You're certainly hit. He's untied.
- 26:17Speaker 3: You better watch him. His spaceship is outside the woods.
- 26:19Speaker 3: He may have a partner aboard. I know. It's in Granham.
- 26:22Speaker 3: He's already been captured.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Well, my two friends and I are blasting off now.
- 26:25Speaker 6: What I said before still goes. We'll keep you a secret.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Thank you. Happy, you ready?
- 26:30Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 26:30Speaker 3: I've got all the weapons. Tenants, sit down. I'm ready, Commander.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I guess I lost control for a while. Sorry, sir. Goodbye, Jeanette. Goodbye, Commander.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Good luck. Goodbye. Come on, then. Let's get back to town.
- 26:45Speaker 3: But I like it here. I think I'll stay. Goodbye, Commander. Happy,
- 26:48Speaker 3: come on. Yes, sir.
- 26:54Speaker 1: An action preview of next week's exciting space patrol adventure
- 26:58Speaker 1: in just a moment.
- 27:00Speaker 3: What's new? Nestle's new. Nestle's what?
- 27:02Speaker 5: Coconut.
- 27:03Speaker 7: Ah, that's my favorite verse, Commander, because I sure go
- 27:06Speaker 7: for Nestle's great new coconut bar.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Oh, I see. Well, you've practically gone through the entire
- 27:10Speaker 3: month's supply already.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Gee, Commander, I just can't help myself.
- 27:13Speaker 7: When I bite into that luscious, thick, rich milk chocolate
- 27:15Speaker 7: just loaded with crisp, toasted coconut, I sort.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Of lose my head. I got to keep eating.
- 27:20Speaker 6: I'll admit, there never has been such a delicious chocolate
- 27:23Speaker 6: bar as the new Nestle's coconut bar.
- 27:25Speaker 7: Well, except maybe those other sensational Nestle's chocolate bars. You know,
- 27:28Speaker 7: the rich milk chocolate, the almond bar, and wonderful crunch.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Stop.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Now you're making me hungry.
- 27:33Speaker 3: What are we waiting for? Be my guest, Commander.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Have a Nestle's chocolate bar. And that goes for you, too,
- 27:38Speaker 2: fellas and girls.
- 27:39Speaker 7: Remember, N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestle's makes the very best chocolate.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And now, a preview of next week's exciting Space Patrol adventure.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Buzz and Happy are exploring the ruins of a lost civilization.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Suddenly aware that a man is following them, Buzz pulls
- 27:59Speaker 1: Happy into a dark passage.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I don't think he can see us stuck in here.
- 28:05Speaker 3: We've got the entrance now. He can't see us in
- 28:07Speaker 3: the dark passage, but he'll leave us. Commander, that big
- 28:11Speaker 3: stone at the entrance. It's moving.
- 28:13Speaker 6: He knows we're in here.
- 28:13Speaker 7: Yeah, but no man in the universe can move that stone.
- 28:16Speaker 3: It wastes time. He's not from this universe, huh? Commander,
- 28:23Speaker 3: he sealed us in. We're trapped.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Be with us again next week for the thrilling Space
- 28:31Speaker 1: Patrol story, The Crown of Darjeetah. Space Patrol, created by
- 28:39Speaker 1: Mike Moser, starring Ed Cameras, Commander Corey, and then Osborne
- 28:41Speaker 1: as Cadet Happy, was written by Lou Houston, produced and
- 28:44Speaker 1: directed by Larry Robertson, executive producer Helen Moser. Other players
- 28:50Speaker 1: were Bela Kovacs, Norman Jolly, Ken Mayer, and Tony Sy,
- 28:53Speaker 1: Dick Tufel speaking. This week's Space Patrol was brought to
- 28:59Speaker 1: you by Nestle's Ever Ready, the instant cocoa, Nestle's Quick
- 29:03Speaker 1: for great chocolate milk, and famous Nestle's Chocolate Bar. This
- 29:10Speaker 1: program is broadcast to our armed forces overseas through the

- 29:16Speaker 1: came to you transcribed from Hollywood. This is ABC Radio Network.
- 29:22Speaker 1: The tariff fee recedes into the distance as Space Patrol's
