- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10The news ladies turned into a werewolf welcome to what's your
- 0:13least favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:16the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our.
- 0:19Favorite and least favorite scary movies?
- 0:21Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its
- 0:23fanbase. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name is Travis, my name is Jesse, and welcome everybody.
- 0:28This week we are discussing the howling as Jesse quit us in on
- 0:32on the whole reporter turning into a werewolf thing.
- 0:35So yeah. Reaction from you on that one.
- 0:38I I couldn't remember if that was a quote or what.
- 0:40Yeah, from the very. End OK kids that are watching.
- 0:45The news. Oh, that was what?
- 0:45The kids I see. I couldn't remember if that was
- 0:48the guy, the director at the news station or what, but yeah,
- 0:51yeah, we're talking. About the news station,
- 0:53presumably would know her name's Karen and wouldn't call her the
- 0:56News Lady. I don't know about that.
- 1:00OK. Anyways, so we are talking about
- 1:03the howling this week. So we are about to get into all
- 1:06the goodies on that. But before we do, do you have
- 1:10anything you want to announce? No.
- 1:14All right. So I have something to announce.
- 1:16Basically the poll results, which wasn't exactly a poll this
- 1:20week. So last week we talked about
- 1:22Unhinged, and we just got in the idea of instead of doing a
- 1:27traditional poll, we are going to assemble a playlist of songs
- 1:31that Russell Crowe would listen to in his spree during Unhinged.
- 1:37And we asked for everybody's input along with all the songs
- 1:41that we contributed during the episode.
- 1:44So just to recap you guys on that, the the songs that we had
- 1:48were like the way it burns by Eminem, I'm not afraid by
- 1:52Eminem, Ball ball with the ball, Kid Rock hangman by Styx
- 1:58bartender. I really didn't really did it
- 2:00this time. I don't remember.
- 2:02Oops, I did it again. Britney Spears.
- 2:04We didn't set the fire, Billy Joel thunderstruck or TNT by
- 2:08ACDC and seven nation Army by The White Stripes.
- 2:12Now what? The people pitched in.
- 2:14Thank you everybody for pitching in.
- 2:15By the way. We got some good ones here.
- 2:17Some of you only sent in an artist, and that means that
- 2:20Travis. I chose.
- 2:22Whatever the song. Was that's right, I I use my
- 2:24best judgement and some of these people are people I don't listen
- 2:27to or I haven't listened to ever.
- 2:28So I'm just like throwing shit out there that just based off of
- 2:31the title. All right, Amber actually
- 2:33dropped three whole ones here. She has they might be giants.
- 2:39When will you die? I don't know that song, but I'm
- 2:43familiar with They Might Be Giants, and that is an
- 2:46interesting pick for Russell Crowe, but I like it.
- 2:49Killing in the name of That's a good one.
- 2:51And that's The Machine. Yeah.
- 2:53And In the end, by Linkin Park. Nice.
- 2:57Joe Freakatron, She Hates Me by Puddle Of Mudd.
- 3:01Also very good. Marnie says Taylor Swift, so I
- 3:05picked. God I hope it shake it off, that
- 3:08would be hilarious. No, I picked anti hero because I
- 3:11feel like he he thinks he's the hero on his story.
- 3:14Tucker says Kid Rock. So I chose another Kid Rock
- 3:17song. I chose cowboy.
- 3:20OK, going to be a cowboy baby and Zane thinking says 5 finger
- 3:26death punch. I did bad company.
- 3:31OK, I don't know how that goes, but Brussel Crowe is not good
- 3:34company. So and then over on Blue Sky, we
- 3:39had Queen Beatrix, who contributed Roland by Limp
- 3:42Bizkit. Nice.
- 3:43Yeah, that's a good one. It's a really, really good
- 3:45addition right there. So we currently have the
- 3:47playlist put together on Spotify here.
- 3:51We have two different names, the one that we are gonna go with.
- 3:55He'll put the link to it and. It'll be in the.
- 3:58Show notes and you'll just be surprised by the name then.
- 4:01Yeah. Yeah, that's true.
- 4:02OK, so yeah, that was it. I like that.
- 4:05That was a really fun poll that we did.
- 4:07I like having a lot of people like contributing and you know,
- 4:11yeah, I think it's fun having an actual playlist.
- 4:13OK, this is so OK, that's it for that.
- 4:16So how about we get into the movie?
- 4:18How about we? Howl about we?
- 4:21OK. So The Howling originally
- 4:23premiered in January of 1981 at the Avarez Fantastic Film Fest.
- 4:29It's at wide release was April 10th, 1981.
- 4:32We watched it on our Blu-ray and if you want to watch it, you do
- 4:36not have any options for streaming but you can rent it on
- 4:40Amazon for 399. It was written based off a novel
- 4:45by Gary Brander, also written by John Sells and Terrence H
- 4:50Winklass, directed by Joe Dante, music by Pinot Dinagio.
- 4:55He I think his favorite one. We last talked about him on Seed
- 4:58of Chucky. I think he did the music for
- 5:00that. I.
- 5:01Probably made that same joke then.
- 5:03Special effects, we had Rob Botton who did the
- 5:05transformations, and then we have David W Allen who did some
- 5:09stop motion for the wolves. Oh, cool, yeah.
- 5:12Starring Dee Wallace as Karen White, Patrick Mcnee as Doctor
- 5:16George Wagner, Dennis Dugan as Chris, Christopher Stone as Bill
- 5:20Nil, Belinda Belaskey as Terry Fisher, Elizabeth Brooks as
- 5:25Marsha and Robert Picardo as Eddie.
- 5:28All right, time for our favorite game on the show.
- 5:31Budget Or but dead, I don't know.
- 5:39Budget. Baghdad.
- 5:42I was actually really shocked at the budget for this thing.
- 5:44It was only $1 million. Damn.
- 5:47I don't have the opening box office, but the worldwide gross
- 5:50was $18 million, so I made 18 times it's budget, which is kind
- 5:53of cool. Yeah.
- 5:55IMDb 6.5 out of 10. Nice.
- 5:58OK, so the theme for 1981 movies, it's basically werewolf.
- 6:03People were eating good that year because we got a lot of
- 6:06adaptations of that. So the very first one, An
- 6:10American Werewolf in London, another classic of the sub genre
- 6:14that released August 21st, 1981 with a $5.8 million budget, $62
- 6:19million gross, IMDb. 7.5 out of 10?
- 6:24I don't think I've seen that one.
- 6:26I've seen the infamous werewolf transformation and that's about
- 6:29it. That's all I've seen too.
- 6:30Yeah, but it seems like it's fun.
- 6:32I've caught recently glimpses of it on Pluto and it seems like a
- 6:36really fun, self aware, I think, kind of movie.
- 6:39That's how it came across to me. At least.
- 6:41I liked it. The next one, Full Moon High,
- 6:44this is Larry Cohen. So, you know, it's probably
- 6:46pretty good. That guy's got some solid stuff.
- 6:49Released October 9th 1981. Don't have a budget or gross but
- 6:53the IMDb is 4.7. What else has Larry Cohen done?
- 6:58He did he wrote the Maniac cop movies, OK.
- 7:02He did Q Winget Serpent. He's done a couple of good
- 7:05things. I think he also wrote Vigilante
- 7:09OK out there. So yeah, he's he's got some
- 7:11really good stuff. And the final one is Wolfen.
- 7:16I can't tell from the way you said it.
- 7:17Is that WOLFIN, apostrophe or WOLFEN?
- 7:22WOLFEN OK, Wolfen. Like I'm Wolfen.
- 7:27It's not how it's. No, that's how you use that in
- 7:29the sentence. That's more confusing because I
- 7:31just asked how to spell. Yeah, I know it's.
- 7:34Like once you've been bit then you have wolf in blood.
- 7:37I think that's what it is, Yeah. OK, Yeah.
- 7:39So that released July 24th, 1980.
- 7:41One $17 million budget, $10.6 million gross and a 6.3 on IMDb.
- 7:49Yeah. So it has some pretty stiff
- 7:51competition there, apparently. Like people were really
- 7:53investing in the werewolf movies.
- 7:55Unless you're Joe Dante, then you're kind of having to scrape
- 7:58it together it seems. OK, so I got tag lines here.
- 8:03The one that's on the poster is Imagine your worst fear a
- 8:06reality. I don't want to imagine that.
- 8:09Yeah, I mean, it's not my worst fear, but you know, I don't.
- 8:12Want to be covered in Scorpions? Yeah.
- 8:15OK, so I got I pulled up my phone here for the rest of them.
- 8:18There's not like a whole lot, but some of them are really long
- 8:21and I just didn't want to ride it.
- 8:22So, all right. What she has witnessed, she
- 8:25cannot escape. What he has become, he cannot
- 8:27control. And what you experience no one
- 8:30will believe until they come face to face with the inhuman
- 8:33fear that is the howling that. That was needlessly long.
- 8:38That's why I didn't want to ride it.
- 8:39Yeah, that's like that's not a tagline that'll stick with you.
- 8:44No, I mean, it's not bad as selling the movie.
- 8:46It's just, it's not, it's not quippy enough.
- 8:49All your nightmares are about to be transformed into one single
- 8:52inescapable fear. Yeah, it's a little bit wordy,
- 8:56but it's still pretty good. Taglings are presuming that
- 8:59werewolves are my biggest fear and I don't appreciate that.
- 9:03I think that they're really trying to sell you on that fear.
- 9:05Like you are afraid of this. I'm not.
- 9:07You're terrified of this. I'm absolutely not.
- 9:09This is your worst fear. No, you cannot understand
- 9:12what's. Happening If I ran into a
- 9:13werewolf, it's the man versus bear debate, but it's the man
- 9:17versus werewolf. And guess what?
- 9:19I'm still taking a werewolf. No game.
- 9:22They're out there and you're in the middle of your worst
- 9:24nightmare. I'm not Joe Dante.
- 9:27What the fuck? I don't think this is him.
- 9:30Maybe he's really afraid of werewolf, so I don't know.
- 9:33Joe Dante is the biggest. Everybody's afraid of this,
- 9:35right? Joe Dante's Inferno.
- 9:37When the howling starts, the war begins.
- 9:40It's. A really funny joke.
- 9:41That was pretty good. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 9:43I'm sorry to gloss over that. That was everybody.
- 9:47OK, well now you're Ogre song yet.
- 9:49OK, I just needed that chuckle, OK?
- 9:51I'm sorry. When the howling starts, the
- 9:54horror begins. There we go.
- 9:56We're now. Yes.
- 9:57That's. Reasonable.
- 9:58Yeah. And the final one beyond
- 10:00anything human. OK, yeah, OK.
- 10:04So yeah, mixed bag there. Not the best, not the worst.
- 10:07So fun facts. OK.
- 10:10All right, I started this one off with a rhyme just because I
- 10:13wanted. To was it on purpose or did you
- 10:16like write it and you went oh, it rhymes?
- 10:17I started because I noticed this guy's, this guy's situation
- 10:22rhyme. And I was like, let me finish it
- 10:24with her. Really.
- 10:25Let's make this, like, a little thing.
- 10:28So I started with Stephen Lane, owner of a theatre chain who
- 10:33wanted to get into production. So he found his introduction.
- 10:37It all started with Stephen Lane here, who owned the theatre
- 10:41chain. Yeah.
- 10:42The theatre train. Train.
- 10:44Yeah, it's a train thing. Yeah.
- 10:46It was inspired by, He was inspired by Stephen King's work,
- 10:48and after he saw Stephen King's blurb on the Book of The
- 10:53Howling, he got interested in wanting to adapt that.
- 10:56So he tracked down the rights holder, which happened to be
- 10:59director Jack Conrad, and they decided to make the movie
- 11:02together. However, Conrad would end up
- 11:05leaving due to creative differences with the studio and
- 11:08then the writer that he had on board, Winkless.
- 11:11He didn't hold up. He just said that he wasn't
- 11:13good. OK so Joe Dante I'm assuming was
- 11:17brought on board at this point, brought his partner John Sells
- 11:22who helped him write Piranha which came out just before this
- 11:26and he did a total rewrite of the movie.
- 11:28So what he brought to this was he made the movie, according to
- 11:32what I read, more self aware and more satirical.
- 11:35Which makes sense because the like, especially the parts with
- 11:39the the other news couple, Terry and Chris, they were very like,
- 11:44everything they were saying was being echoed either by like
- 11:48movies or other people in the magic shop.
- 11:51Yeah, I mean, like Dick Miller's there, like giving them like,
- 11:53yeah, this is werewolf shit right here.
- 11:54It's like all in the books. It's all the same.
- 11:56Roger Corman actually came to us in the movie briefly.
- 11:59He is a guy sitting outside a phone booth at the beginning of
- 12:01the movie. Yeah, OK.
- 12:03I thought that I recognized him, but I was like, maybe it is,
- 12:07maybe it isn't, But it turns out it was him.
- 12:10And also we got Dick Miller there as well.
- 12:11So we get a whole thing of the Tree of Corman here, since Joe
- 12:15Dante came from Corman with Piranha Joe.
- 12:17Dante. Originally the movie had Rick
- 12:21Baker sign on to do special effects, but he went on and left
- 12:25for American Werewolf in London. So they ended up getting Rob
- 12:29Botton and said who did the infamous transformation scene in
- 12:33this movie? It's nice that they both have
- 12:36very unique transformation scenes.
- 12:38I don't know if I would say unique, actually, but very
- 12:41impressive ones. Yeah.
- 12:42And apparently the way that he achieved that is he had latex on
- 12:46the face of of the actor and they had what is called air
- 12:51bladders underneath, which is what causes like the bubbling
- 12:54and kind of like the misshapen, like the just shape shifting
- 12:58going on there that. Makes.
- 13:00Sense So the success of the movie is what helped Joe Dante
- 13:03get his job for Gremlins. So what ended up having with
- 13:07that is there were some Easter eggs for The Howling in that
- 13:11movie. So apparently on the fridge
- 13:15there is a little :) that Eddie has that is his calling card.
- 13:20So that's there at their house. And also the news reporter from
- 13:23The Howling is also in Gremlins as well.
- 13:27It's the character Lou Landers. But like Dee Wallace.
- 13:31No, the the male. Oh yeah, OK.
- 13:34I was like. No, Dee Wallace is dead.
- 13:37Yeah, at the end of this movie she dies, but well.
- 13:40Yeah, the other guy, I know that.
- 13:41OK. Yeah.
- 13:42I think it's kind of cool though, that I guess I kind of.
- 13:44Like it's the same news. Yeah, it's the same character,
- 13:47not the actor, the same character is there.
- 13:49So basically shared universe thing going here.
- 13:52Yeah. OK.
- 13:54And that's it for the fun facts that I had.
- 13:55OK, so let's go ahead and kick this thing off.
- 13:58Jesse, what is the good that you saw in this movie?
- 14:02Well, I'm pretty particular about creature features just
- 14:07because a lot of times I feel like the story is just there's a
- 14:12creature and that's not super interesting to me, which that
- 14:17was a big part of my whole thing with Cloverfield way, way, way
- 14:20back in the day. OK, OK.
- 14:26I I would argue with that movie. I think it's the way it's told
- 14:28that it's more intriguing. That makes it worse for me.
- 14:32I think what I'm saying is like they keep the monster a mystery
- 14:35until like you get Chuck a glimpse of it at the end, which
- 14:38I think is more interesting. Disagree.
- 14:41I think that this is, you know, it tells a really interesting
- 14:44story. I like the fact that it's in
- 14:46like kind of a Wellness retreat type of situation and it feels
- 14:51almost culty. And in fact, it is culty.
- 14:54I think that is kind of a really fun twist on it.
- 14:57I like that we've got the, like, investigative news team that
- 15:03first of all, they're like so weirdly involved in this, like
- 15:08string of murderers seemingly more involved than the police
- 15:11themselves. It's kind of it's going to touch
- 15:13up the jaw. And then they just fully accept
- 15:19werewolves just existing even before like she gets the
- 15:23retreat, she's like expecting to see werewolves.
- 15:26And then she does see werewolves.
- 15:28Confirmation bias, Who knows? So I think that that's really
- 15:32fun. And I also think that shot of
- 15:34Dee Wallace then first of all, she has no right to be such a
- 15:37pretty werewolf. Like we didn't see the final
- 15:40transformation. We saw her face at the end and
- 15:43she looked like a little like a little terrier.
- 15:47Yeah. Like you put a bow on the top of
- 15:49that head. Yeah.
- 15:50But also like her mid transformation, like that shot
- 15:53of her like with just like a tear coming down her face is
- 15:55just something really beautiful. So I think the I think the whole
- 15:58thing is really interesting. And also you know, much like
- 16:00vampires, Wareholves have very inconsistent lore from 1
- 16:05franchise, one movie, one story to another.
- 16:08And I like that this one's like ah fuck the full moon thing, we
- 16:11can just change whenever we want.
- 16:13Also can come back from the dead.
- 16:15Unless it's a silver bullet. Silver bullet does not have to
- 16:18be in a fatal kind of area when it's shot, just has to be in the
- 16:22body. You know, I kind of, well, I
- 16:25don't know, they all got hit in some pretty fatal places, I
- 16:27think. I don't think anybody's got hit.
- 16:29In like their shoulder or something.
- 16:32Maybe I can't remember, but you know, I, I kind of appreciate
- 16:36that because like the other night we also watched Scream 6
- 16:38where everybody gets stabbed all over the place and everybody
- 16:41survives. Spoiler of I'm sorry but like.
- 16:44We're kind of following the rules for fatality from that one
- 16:48really bad tubing movie we talked about with Paris Hilton.
- 16:519 lives, yes yeah. Mm hmm yeah.
- 16:54Like we're like a tummy stab is like fatal.
- 16:56And tummy stab fatal? Yeah, no.
- 16:58Or just a shoulder stab is fatal.
- 17:01Just like any kind of stab, really.
- 17:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:04You know, that doesn't bother me too much, but yeah.
- 17:08OK. You got anything else?
- 17:10Those are the main beats I think.
- 17:12OK, yeah, for me, I like the creature design a lot in this.
- 17:17I'm with you. I'm not really a big werewolf
- 17:21creature feature type of dude. So I know that this is a classic
- 17:24and a lot of people love this movie and hold it in really high
- 17:27regard. So I I you know, and we happen
- 17:30to have it on Blu-ray, so I wanted to throw it out there for
- 17:32today and give werewolves a chance because we've given
- 17:34vampires plenty of chances. And I was actually wrong
- 17:37whenever I said we hadn't talked about any werewolf movies on
- 17:40this show before because we talked about Wolf Cop.
- 17:43Yeah, which is a good werewolf movie, I you know that one is.
- 17:48Amazing trick or treat. Oh yeah, there are werewolves in
- 17:50that too. This is well, pure, like
- 17:53werewolf from start to finish, I guess I should say.
- 17:56But I really like how they handled the the look of them in
- 18:00this. They they're, they're one of
- 18:03those things that I feel like would be really hard to know,
- 18:05like they're hard to draw. And I don't know how you would
- 18:09bring one to life, but they did a great job bringing them to
- 18:11life through like the stop motions, how they like got them,
- 18:14like the janky movement and stuff like that.
- 18:16And then just the transformations alone are
- 18:19incredible. And when they cut off that guy's
- 18:23hand and it just like turns from the wolfhand into a human hand
- 18:26again, it was really, really impressive.
- 18:29You are still. You're not there yet, but I
- 18:33can't wait for you to see the werewolves and Buffy.
- 18:37If they look like the vampires, vampires I.
- 18:42Can't wait for you to see. Them I'm just going to.
- 18:43Leave it at that. I'm with you.
- 18:46I also really enjoy the investigative journalists aspect
- 18:49of this movie. I thought that that was some of
- 18:52the more interesting parts of this.
- 18:53So like, if we had stuck with that a lot more, I think that
- 18:56this would have been like really, really great for me.
- 18:59But the parts that we got really, really fun.
- 19:03And yeah, that that ending is it is amazing.
- 19:07That is a great way to end this movie.
- 19:09So OK, that's it for my goods. What are some bads?
- 19:14I guess I feel like maybe the pacing's off a little bit
- 19:17because like, I guess we're meant to see that there are
- 19:20problems in her and Bill's relationship, but we don't
- 19:23really get that prior to the retreat.
- 19:26Like we get like a hint of it and then they get there and it
- 19:28seems like things are OK and then all of a sudden he's
- 19:30slapping her. Well, I think at that point he's
- 19:33got the wolf in. Them.
- 19:34Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just we spent far more time
- 19:37establishing that Bill's a vegetarian.
- 19:39That we did like anything with their marriage.
- 19:42Are they actually even married? She's.
- 19:44She refers to him as her husband, right?
- 19:45I don't remember. I don't think so.
- 19:47So yeah. They have different last names
- 19:50in the movie, so. That doesn't mean anything.
- 19:52Yeah. But this is more traditional
- 19:54times. I think that that happened back.
- 19:55News anchor. She was probably already known
- 19:57professionally as Karen White. I guess, yeah.
- 20:00Yeah, I'm just saying it was really hard to care about the
- 20:03dissolution of their marriage, you know, 'cause we didn't.
- 20:06I cared more about Chris and Terry at that point than I did
- 20:10about Karen and Bill. They were more interesting
- 20:12characters for me. I agree.
- 20:14Yeah, so it's just like it it we don't get a lot of like highs
- 20:17and lows and those emotional like gut punches, except for
- 20:21like Karen's transformation on air at the end because, you
- 20:25know, she'd been having this whole mental freeze getting on
- 20:28air. So her Breaking Bad just to like
- 20:31get shot live on air after transforming like that, that
- 20:34sucks and that's emotional, but I think the rest of it kind of
- 20:36just deflates a little bit. I think the best part of that
- 20:40ending, like other than that, is how it cuts to the bar
- 20:43afterwards and you get these people debating whether it was
- 20:45real or not. Yeah, which is true.
- 20:47I feel like that would be like a real thing because nobody like
- 20:49believes shit anymore. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 20:53My bad. Is very much in line with that
- 20:56it it caused the pacing to be bad.
- 20:58But for me it's because we don't stay in moments very long.
- 21:02We have days taken up in like a matter of seconds and like
- 21:08they're not even full scenes. They're just like a little like
- 21:10snippets like here's one day and we get like 15 seconds and then
- 21:13we cut to like the next day and then just so much happened so
- 21:17fast. It just feels so disjointed and
- 21:21it just it messes with my. Value.
- 21:24Yeah. And I'd love to see more of the
- 21:25cultiness of things too. What is it called?
- 21:28The Colony. The colony, yeah.
- 21:30Mm. Hmm.
- 21:31So that was my big problem with this.
- 21:34And I think it, I think at the end it gets better.
- 21:40The longer it goes, it gets better.
- 21:41But once you get there, or like once it's starting, like, I
- 21:45don't know, the opening is really cool with like the
- 21:48investigation and they're trying to get the sting on Eddie.
- 21:50But then everything in the middle is just like so fast and
- 21:53so weird and disjointed. And then we bring it back
- 21:56together in the end. Yeah.
- 21:58OK, Ugly. OK, so Eddie the Mangler, that's
- 22:05pretty ugly. The doctor, he like, feels like
- 22:10he's peddling like, and I get in his mind he's like trying to
- 22:13like, OK, how can werewolves live in society, right?
- 22:17I get that that's his secret objective, but on the surface,
- 22:21if I just heard this doctor up here talking about like, oh, you
- 22:25got to embrace the beast within. That's your real gift.
- 22:28I feel like go back and jerk off with Andrew Tate, you asshole.
- 22:33You know, like I just, I don't, I feel like that would be like a
- 22:41really toxic kind of like nowadays it would be like TikTok
- 22:45psychology like, oh, you go to take the bad parts of you and
- 22:48embrace them and they're for the greater good.
- 22:51And then you've got like young kids being like, it's OK that
- 22:54I'm an asshole. I'm embracing my gift like.
- 22:58Yeah, I feel like Marsha was also like a probably a bigger
- 23:01proponent of that. She's like be all beasts, don't
- 23:04let any of. It exactly, Exactly, exactly.
- 23:07So I yeah, I just thought that doctor is probably doing more
- 23:11harm than good. Yeah, my.
- 23:14Ugly was Bill's whole personal transformation in the movies.
- 23:19Like they start off. I don't know, I don't think that
- 23:23they're having a hard time until they get to the colony, but I
- 23:26could be wrong. Like he he gets there, he cheats
- 23:30on her and then he ends up getting to a point where he like
- 23:33hits her and shit like that. And then it's just like his
- 23:36character takes like a really fucking deep.
- 23:38He hits her for her, calling out the fact that she thinks that
- 23:42maybe he possibly cheated on her.
- 23:44Yeah, but she did. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's all part
- 23:47of his downfall. It's really shitty.
- 23:49He he ends up being a pretty shitty guy and then like he just
- 23:52gets like killed off so unceremoniously too.
- 23:56But yeah, that I thought that that was the ugly part for me.
- 23:59OK, absurd. Oh man, I'm gonna.
- 24:08So we talked about this as we were watching it.
- 24:10The credits just play over a burger cooking on the stove.
- 24:16But The thing is, we know Marsha ordered it rare, and this thing
- 24:21was medium well. Squad.
- 24:23The time the the credits were done, yeah, there wasn't even a
- 24:27hint of pink left. I think that's accurate though,
- 24:31because like, you order something wrong and then they
- 24:33bring it to you, or you order something and they bring it to
- 24:35you wrong. Are you just talking about me
- 24:37specifically? Happens to you a lot.
- 24:40Yeah. But, you know, like, it's, it's
- 24:42a real experience. I like, I want to see like the
- 24:44fallout from that. Like does she like, go on like a
- 24:47werewolf rampage because of that?
- 24:49Yeah, like she just turns into a werewolf and attacks the like
- 24:53bartender slash Lang. Right in front of all the people
- 24:56that were debating whether it was real or not, and they're
- 24:58still debating. Although that bar was like a
- 25:02Waffle House but with alcohol because like the stove top was
- 25:05just right there and people are around the countertop ordering
- 25:09their food that way. It's like a hibachi fusion bar
- 25:13situation. She was about they're, they're
- 25:15probably off to the side doing the little onion volcano, a
- 25:18little Choo Choo like. I wish.
- 25:20I wish instead of like the sake like being squeezed and.
- 25:24Yeah, just like mustard. No, I was gonna say, they've got
- 25:28like the little soda gun. Yeah, that works too.
- 25:32Yeah, I prefer just like taking a bottle of mustard.
- 25:36Yeah, that would be nasty as fuck.
- 25:39My absurds one when they're doing the they call it a wolf
- 25:45hunt. They have that one guy as
- 25:48they're like sniff dog TCTC. Yeah, what is?
- 25:51It with movies in the 80s and like, we're gonna give this dude
- 25:54a name, but it's just gonna be two letters.
- 25:57One of them's gotta be the letter T.
- 25:59Yeah, I it's a, it's an interesting trend.
- 26:03This we got madman. TP.
- 26:06Yeah, and then we've got TC Slopper Party Massacre 2 or
- 26:11Sleep Sleep with Camp 2. Yeah, TC again.
- 26:15Also TC, yeah what the fuck people from the 80s.
- 26:19And then TT. That well that actually like we
- 26:23know canonically what that stands for.
- 26:25Do we get any of the T CS T PS like what their?
- 26:29What their names are, I don't think so, no.
- 26:31But I don't know. I like the idea.
- 26:33I just love the idea that everybody's OK with using him as
- 26:35like this, like sniffer out there and like all the people
- 26:38that are brought in from the outside of the colony are not
- 26:41questioning like this guy just sniffs really well.
- 26:43He's a good dog. Bill's there.
- 26:44He's not even there for, like, the therapy.
- 26:47He's just there to support you care.
- 26:49And he's like, yeah, no, I guess this guy can just smell.
- 26:52This guy's really. Yeah.
- 26:54And then just at the end where they take everybody else against
- 26:59their will. But then whenever he gets to
- 27:01Karen, they're like, let's do like a shindig.
- 27:03Let's do a surprise party at the barn.
- 27:06Yeah. They just, like, sneak her over
- 27:08there and like, they just, they really try to recruit her.
- 27:11But then everybody else is like, Nah, just buy them.
- 27:14OK. So that's it for all of that.
- 27:17So what do you rate this? 7.
- 27:22OK. I think it's, it's pretty
- 27:24decent, yeah. I mean, you know, we've already
- 27:27discussed our problems with it, some things that I think
- 27:30happened to punch it up, but I think it's pretty decent.
- 27:33I think it's OK. Yeah, I think I would give it
- 27:35around 6 1/2. Yeah, it's a good movie.
- 27:39I understand why a lot of people love this movie.
- 27:41But yeah, absolutely. OK, so what's our average?
- 27:466.75. OK, cool.
- 27:49All right, Well then, let's get into.
- 27:51So we start off and we see there's like news, talk show,
- 27:56interview, something happening on TV, and it's with Doctor
- 28:00Wagner. And he's talking about, you
- 28:03know, humans, neuroses and psychoses and how you just have
- 28:06to unleash the beast within and find the gift from our primal
- 28:10nature. Yeah, he's talking about
- 28:11something with like, animal magnetism too.
- 28:15Yeah, it just icky. Yeah, and I like how this is
- 28:19like all overly You see Eddie, he's in his apartment just
- 28:22watching the TV, dude. Eddie makes me uncomfortable
- 28:26because he does the like wetting his lips with this tongue thing
- 28:29that's just really creepy where he's just like.
- 28:31Yep, just like to nobody but himself in an apartment.
- 28:35Yeah, it's it's off putting. Meanwhile, we see the news team
- 28:39is working on a big story. They're doing a sting, it seems.
- 28:44Yeah. And Karen is the bait.
- 28:46She is walking down the streets. Well, she's the bait, but also
- 28:50like, she's who Eddie has been in contact with.
- 28:53So there's been this serial rapist and murderer, Eddie the
- 28:56Mangler, and, you know, police haven't caught him.
- 29:00I don't know that they're trying.
- 29:01It doesn't seem like they give a shit.
- 29:03They're just like, yeah, I mean, it happens, OK?
- 29:06Beast within. Calm down.
- 29:08And so Eddie contacted Karen because he liked her on the TV
- 29:14and he, you know, is like, kind of feeding her little bits of
- 29:19information. And she gains his trust, and he
- 29:22agrees to meet her. She's supposed to come alone,
- 29:25but she's got, like, a secret transmitter.
- 29:28But this transmitter sucks because it's 1981.
- 29:30I blame Roger Corman. He was there.
- 29:32He sabotaged the whole thing. Yeah, yeah, he fucked with the
- 29:35radio interference or whatever. I don't know what I'm saying.
- 29:39Yeah. So she calls into the.
- 29:41She calls into Eddie and they realized that the the signal is
- 29:46breaking up on the news station's end.
- 29:48And so the cops that are supposed to be like guarding her
- 29:52are just like we need to find a lady in purple.
- 29:55Quick, let's ask this sex worker over here.
- 29:58I don't what like what is this town?
- 30:00Isn't it funny that they're also.
- 30:01LA also. I don't know where this is,
- 30:03actually, but isn't it also funny that I'm like, yeah, this
- 30:05lady, she's wearing purple. You know, the news lady that's
- 30:08on everybody's TV at night. This is the 80s.
- 30:12Nobody else has sources of news other than newspaper and the
- 30:15television, vision and radio, but still, she would be a
- 30:18recognizable face. Yes, so eventually what it comes
- 30:24down to she walks into a video shop and then she goes into the
- 30:27adults only section. And this is one of those where
- 30:30you have your own private theater.
- 30:32And this is really gross cuz Eddie makes her watch like porno
- 30:36and is like these women don't feel anything.
- 30:40They're not real. That's dehumanizing and gross,
- 30:43Eddie. Like, I get it, you're a rapist
- 30:44and a murderer, but like. He's also a werewolf.
- 30:47It's gross. Yeah.
- 30:48He's like, this is like. He's like, I'm also dehumanized
- 30:51so. It's cool.
- 30:52I can say this. Yeah.
- 30:55And he starts to make his move on her.
- 30:57She starts to flip out. The cops are in there asking the
- 31:01shop owner about her, and they happen to hear her scream.
- 31:04At that time, the. Shop owner is like, yeah, this
- 31:06broad just walked in and scared out all my other customers, and
- 31:10it's because all the other customers were in the adults
- 31:12only section. They're like, oh man, the news
- 31:13lady's. Here.
- 31:14Oh man, they're doing a piece watching porno, just like
- 31:17covering themselves with their collars.
- 31:19Yeah. And yeah, they hear a scream and
- 31:22they don't even know what they're shooting at.
- 31:24They just shoot the wall. I know.
- 31:25They could have so easily hit Karen boom movies over.
- 31:29Yeah, it could have just ended there, but somehow they
- 31:33accidentally hit the person and. Yeah, Eddie.
- 31:36Yeah, and they think they got them, so they take Karen to the
- 31:40hospital. She wakes up at the hospital.
- 31:43She cannot remember anything that happened.
- 31:46Like she remembers going in there and she remembers him
- 31:49saying don't turn around and then she doesn't remember
- 31:51anything from when she was until she was escorted out.
- 31:54Yeah, and then meanwhile, the team is doing an investigation
- 31:58of Eddie's apartment. Not the cops.
- 32:00The news. Team Yeah, yeah, the news team.
- 32:01And he's got his whole wall covered with werewolf stuff.
- 32:06He's got some illustrations. Newspaper from his murders.
- 32:11Porn. Drawings that he's done porn,
- 32:13the :) sticker. So, you know, real real serial
- 32:18killer hideaway type stuff. Yeah, for sure.
- 32:21And then, yeah, he finds that drawing.
- 32:22OK, and there. Or they do.
- 32:24So they take the illustrations and they take it to Doctor
- 32:29Wagner to see what he thinks about the whole thing.
- 32:33He said that the killer clearly was using his right sided brain,
- 32:37the artistic side. Wow doc, what do we do with
- 32:44that? This guy's, I don't know, like I
- 32:47don't understand why this guy is such like a, a great resource
- 32:50for them. Like they had him on TV.
- 32:51He's been spouting nothing but just a bunch of bullshit the
- 32:54entire time. And everybody's like, this is
- 32:55the guy. This guy, he's got the answer.
- 32:57He's wagging. Yeah, well, and eventually even
- 33:00Karen is going to go talk to him because what happens is she goes
- 33:03back to work. She's going to tell of her
- 33:06ordeal on air, except she hasn't gotten any real therapy and
- 33:11she's traumatized. And when she gets on air, she
- 33:13looks into the camera and she has a flashback to being in the
- 33:17booth and watching that video with Eddie about to kill her.
- 33:20So it's. White's camera space out.
- 33:23Nice. Yeah.
- 33:24And then they just pull her off the dust, like, OK, she's done.
- 33:26She's not doing anything. So then, yeah, she goes to see
- 33:30the doctor the next day. He recommends that she go to the
- 33:33colony for about one to two weeks just to recharge the
- 33:37batteries. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:38So, so not everybody gets this treatment quote on.
- 33:43You know, the subtext of that is like, this is for rich people.
- 33:47That's why I call it a Wellness retreat, because rich people
- 33:49don't go to therapy, they don't go to hospitals, they go to
- 33:52Wellness retreat. Yeah.
- 33:56Is it for just purely the werewolves or do you think that
- 33:59he has it has like a front still too?
- 34:01I think they were thinking because I think she got
- 34:07recommended to that because Eddie is one of his patients so.
- 34:12Eddie ain't doing. He's not super rich.
- 34:14We saw his apartment. Well, you know, up until this
- 34:18point we don't know that it's really a werewolf retreat.
- 34:20Yeah, true. Yeah, Yeah.
- 34:21It feels like that here. Yeah.
- 34:23Yeah. OK, so we're already at the
- 34:25colony. This movie moves at lightspeed.
- 34:28Yeah, you know, we could have more time to build relationships
- 34:31and whatnot if we didn't have one of Karen's nightmares every
- 34:345 minutes. Yeah.
- 34:36I mean, they don't take up a lot of time, but you know, yeah, I
- 34:38mean, it's still padding, you know, OK.
- 34:40Yeah, we got it that she has nightmares.
- 34:43Yeah, so they're there. They're meeting with the others.
- 34:46It's like a bonfire cookout type.
- 34:49Dill and Bill meets so lady handsome, a lot of mystery.
- 34:55And that Lady happens to be Marsha.
- 34:58She's over there serving food. He's like, I'm vegetarian.
- 35:00And she's like, here, drink this.
- 35:02And she won't tell him exactly what it is, but I don't really
- 35:06know. Yeah.
- 35:08Yeah, they didn't really like elaborate on that.
- 35:10Like they gave, she gave him an ominous drink, and then that was
- 35:12it. Well, and I think the point was
- 35:14really meant to be like they're kind of like she's kind of
- 35:17flirting with him. Gossip is that she is there for
- 35:21nymphomania. Meanwhile, Donna, she's one of
- 35:25the other people at the colony. She takes care and for like a
- 35:28little tour and to understand what the way the land is.
- 35:32Yeah, and then we get this old dude who's just like, I went in,
- 35:35I got a burn. So he's trying to throw himself
- 35:37on top of a fire. He's.
- 35:38Sitting there, he's like, I can't do it this way anymore.
- 35:42Teeth are. Shot.
- 35:45Teeth are shot. Teeth.
- 35:46He tries to throw himself on the fire.
- 35:48And I was like, that's just how Earl is like, yeah.
- 35:50Earl do it every week. Yeah.
- 35:53Earl So Karen is woken up in the middle of the night by House and
- 35:59Bill does the classic horror movie husband thing.
- 36:02He's like, oh, it's just the wind or a dog.
- 36:04Yeah. He's like you grew up in LA,
- 36:07you're stupid, you don't know what nature.
- 36:09Sounds like I understand his point there.
- 36:12Because like, if you grow up and all you know is just like the
- 36:15ambience of a city, and then you go out into the country, like
- 36:18you could hear something like that in the distance and think,
- 36:20Oh my God, we're gonna die. No, it's just the fucking
- 36:22country. Be a whole ass to her about it
- 36:24though. He doesn't have to be, but he
- 36:25saw Mystery Woman. He's already got his sights on
- 36:30somebody else. Yeah, he's like, how do I get
- 36:32out of this marriage? Yeah, there we.
- 36:34Go. Push all the wrong buttons.
- 36:37Yeah, except so she can't go back to sleep.
- 36:40So she goes out and she's like stocking the fire and she hears
- 36:44a sound outside of the cabin and goes outside.
- 36:48I don't really know what happens.
- 36:49Just the next day she's talking to Donna and she's like, well, I
- 36:51heard a scary sound so I called the cops.
- 36:53She goes out there and there's something hanging on a limb.
- 36:56Oh, it's just a piece of cloth. I, I wasn't really sure what it
- 36:58was exactly, but you also see, I think it's Eddie.
- 37:03I think it's Eddie watching from the bushes there.
- 37:05It's either Eddie or the guy that can smell really well, but
- 37:08I'm pretty sure it's Eddie. Yeah, I don't.
- 37:10I don't know. Either way she calls the cops
- 37:12and the cop is like heard you guys got a coyote problem?
- 37:16Yeah, they keep saying coyote. Is that right?
- 37:21Are we wrong? I've always pronounced.
- 37:23It coyote. I think it's one of those words
- 37:24that can be pronounced a couple different ways.
- 37:26OK, so we come over to the news team.
- 37:30This is Chris and Terry and they are checking on Eddie's corpse.
- 37:36Yeah, they wanted to see if he really has an animal tattoo.
- 37:40I just I. Just trying to identify them I
- 37:43guess. I don't.
- 37:44Know do morgues just let anybody come in and look at a body?
- 37:47I think if you some again to be surprised, you might be
- 37:51surprised how easy people could do this, especially if you're
- 37:54with the news. It just seems like it would be
- 37:55interfering with an investigation.
- 37:57Probably, but these guys are the only ones investigating, right?
- 38:00Whatever. Nobody else cares about this
- 38:02guy. You all can I guess.
- 38:04Everybody's about to care because they go over to Eddie's
- 38:07freezer and when they open it up there's nobody in there and
- 38:11there is massive claw marks on the inside of the door.
- 38:15So back at night at the colony, Karen hears cows.
- 38:19They ain't sounding right, though, so she gets her rifle
- 38:22and goes to go investigate. Yeah, I, I what was the what was
- 38:27the train of thought for that? Well.
- 38:29No, her and Donna were already outside.
- 38:31They were chit chatting because Donna was talking about all of
- 38:34the other cults and therapies she's tried for her problems and
- 38:38she was like this one I think will really stick for now.
- 38:40Yeah, the vampire 1 wasn't too good.
- 38:42The werewolf one seemed to work out.
- 38:44And then they hear the cow sounds and they're like, oh,
- 38:47better go check on that. And that's when they find a dead
- 38:49cow. Yeah, it's a really, really dead
- 38:52cow. It's yeah, yeah.
- 38:54I'm surprised that she actually herd a cow.
- 38:56And then this is where the men are, like, all right, men.
- 38:59There were howling. There were dead cows.
- 39:02Must hunt. Must hunt.
- 39:04TC TC Sniff. TC, TC sniff, That sounds like a
- 39:10brand of something right there. It's like, babe, can you give me
- 39:13a pack of the TC sniffs? No, that's like, that's like a
- 39:18trial, like a travel sized deodorant.
- 39:20Yeah, TC sniff. OK.
- 39:25So Karen has a session, like a group therapy session.
- 39:30So she goes in there and she's recounting what happened to her
- 39:33again when she went to go meet Eddie, and she still can't
- 39:38remember. Like she can't see him when she
- 39:41turns around in her memory. So she still can't unlock that.
- 39:46Meanwhile, we cut back over to Terry and Chris, who are at Dick
- 39:50Miller's. Yeah, store.
- 39:52I'm they're. Just they're just chilling with
- 39:54Dick Miller. Yeah, and they're over there.
- 39:56They're looking up literature on werewolves.
- 39:59They jump to that conclusion real hard and fast.
- 40:02Listen, what else can just wake from?
- 40:05The Scott Claws was dead, not there.
- 40:10All signs point to werewolf. It's their worst nightmare.
- 40:15Yeah, and of course that's what Night jumped too.
- 40:18They just looked at each other. Oh God, it's happening.
- 40:22The greatest fears come to life. Yeah, so he, he's, yeah, he's
- 40:29like, so all of those stories where werewolves can only change
- 40:33the full moon, that's a load of shit.
- 40:35Will Spain forget about it? The only thing that works is a
- 40:38silver bullet. It's got to be a true silver.
- 40:41It feels like this is all like Dick Miller, just like, yeah,
- 40:43werewolves, movies full of shit. Yeah, Full moon.
- 40:47Nah, not buying it. Like Dick, this script, Yeah,
- 40:50he's like, Nah, bullshit. Silver bullets.
- 40:53Maybe, Yeah. Oh, also, did you know
- 40:56werewolves can come back from the dead?
- 40:57That's the thing, too. And they're like, no shit.
- 40:59And he goes, yeah, I'm trying to sell shit here.
- 41:02I love it. He's the most disillusioned
- 41:04magic shop owner ever. Is it a magic shop?
- 41:07Yeah. OK, it's like it's an occult
- 41:09type shop. OK, yeah, cuz it almost looks
- 41:11like a library of sorts too. Yeah.
- 41:14So they buy books, several books on werewolves, and you know,
- 41:18they're now stocked up. So we see the husband takes a
- 41:24rabbit to Marshall. I guess that's why he hunted.
- 41:26Yeah, while they're on the hunt, he shoots a rabbit and TC is
- 41:30like, oh, my sister can cook that up for you.
- 41:33And he's like, no thanks, I don't eat meat.
- 41:35And he's like, it's a sin to kill something and not use it.
- 41:40Yeah, which that. Look, he's got a point.
- 41:44Like don't kill it just to kill it.
- 41:46I get that. I'm saying that's chilling
- 41:48considering they're a werewolf cult.
- 41:51Oh, yeah. Oh, they.
- 41:52Yeah, Yeah. To be fair, we haven't seen them
- 41:56kill anybody yet. They've only turned people.
- 41:59That's true. Yeah, that's true.
- 42:01So Bill brings it to Marsha, that's T CS sister, and she
- 42:06throws the rabbit's foot at him. Anybody remember that point in
- 42:09time where we were all just walking around with fuzzy little
- 42:11key chains saying it's my lucky rabbit's foot?
- 42:14I remember that. Yeah, that was kind of weird.
- 42:16So yeah, she's like, I'll cook the rabbit later.
- 42:19And then she kisses him and he starts to kiss back, and then he
- 42:21pushes her away. He's like, no, So he's going
- 42:25back to his own bungalow. And wouldn't you know it, he's
- 42:28attacked by a wolf. Do we think this is Marsha?
- 42:31Do we think this is horny? Little Marsha is like you will
- 42:34not say no to me once you're a. Wolf No, I think this is TC.
- 42:38Oh yeah, I think. TC says you will not say no to
- 42:40my horny. Little sister will call her.
- 42:45Yeah, he's just like, man, this guy would be a he's the best.
- 42:49He killed a rabbit. He'd be a great brother-in-law.
- 42:52I'm the best wing man, I'm ATC. Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:56I don't know why. My TC also sounds like my John
- 42:59triple SO. Yeah, so yeah, he's he goes
- 43:06stumbling back home to on the store steps and then.
- 43:10Yeah, they're a little bungalow. And Karen's like, ah, so she
- 43:13takes him to the Doctor, Who apparently also has, like,
- 43:16antibiotics and sutures. And what kind of doctor is he?
- 43:19Is he like a mind doctor? A body doctor?
- 43:23A. Psychiatry, because they
- 43:25prescribe medicine, do go through medical training like
- 43:28they do go to medical school. Well, not like that kind though.
- 43:31They don't have to learn, like learn the whole human anatomy
- 43:34and all that, do they? They have to do all of that.
- 43:35They have. To do all of medical school,
- 43:37yeah, psychiatry is a specialty. So when you go down that lane,
- 43:40you can be like, OK, I've done all of that.
- 43:42Now do I want to do doctor, doctor stuff or do I want to do,
- 43:45like, psychiatry stuff? Yeah, you can.
- 43:47Like, you've come to a fork in a row.
- 43:48Yeah. Really.
- 43:49Yes, impressive. OK, it's.
- 43:51A specialty. Well, this guy's still a quack,
- 43:54so, you know, I, I don't regret anything episode.
- 43:57Yes, and especially cuz he's like, all right, here's a shot
- 44:00so you don't get infected. And Karen's like cool, we're
- 44:02gonna go home. He goes no.
- 44:03No, no. Traveling's not advisable.
- 44:06A bite like this could easily get infected.
- 44:09Seems like all the more reason to get out of the woods.
- 44:12Yeah, you don't wanna go near modern medicine.
- 44:15Stay over here. We have TC.
- 44:17Getting in your car? Go into a sterile hospital.
- 44:20Bad idea. Stay in the woods.
- 44:23Dirt bogs sweat. TC can sniff the sickness.
- 44:27Yeah, TC. TC will tell you if you start to
- 44:30go gangrenous. He will know if you have sepsis.
- 44:33Yeah, so it's now a night time and Terry and Chris, they're
- 44:38chilling. They're they're they're having
- 44:40some sexy. Time, dude, This was the reveal
- 44:43I was not prepared for. I thought they had decent
- 44:46chemistry, but I was like, they're just, you know, they're
- 44:48work bubbies. They probably spend a lot of
- 44:49time together. And Oh my God, they're in bed
- 44:52together, not wearing any pants. Not Terry's answering Chris's
- 44:56phone. Not only that, yeah, they're
- 44:58they're also studying too. But you know, yeah, they're all
- 45:01doing the pantsless. I like this, this, this is.
- 45:05I like these characters. They're more fun.
- 45:07Yeah. And they, yeah, they get a call
- 45:09from fuck, what's her name? Karen.
- 45:13And she tells them about all the things going down.
- 45:16And Terry's like, OK, werewolves, more werewolf shit
- 45:20happening. Chris, on the other hand, is
- 45:21more skeptical. He's like, OK, so you go figure
- 45:25out what's happening down there. Get Karen.
- 45:27I'll follow you after. I need to pitch this half hour
- 45:30segment with Doctor Wagner to the big boss.
- 45:33Meanwhile, Karen has a realized Billy's not in their bed and she
- 45:38rolls over. She doesn't know where he is.
- 45:42We know where he is. He is having he's doing a doggy
- 45:47style on the beach. Oh and wait, was this before?
- 45:52That's pretty good. Sorry, I I want to give you your
- 45:54props there, but they. Oh, this is after he eats meat.
- 46:00Yeah, yeah, you're. Right, I did skip that.
- 46:02Terry shows up there and like, yeah, he's like suddenly eating
- 46:05meat. Like this is great like that.
- 46:06Terry doesn't see him eating the meat.
- 46:08Terry's still like on her way there.
- 46:10Bill has been invited to a picnic with.
- 46:12No, that's right. For some reason I thought Terry
- 46:14just like brought she. Was like food or something.
- 46:16She's like, oh man, I forgot Bill's veggies.
- 46:19Were you not going to eat vegetables, bitch?
- 46:21Like what the fuck? People are always so weird about
- 46:25that. They're like, I could never eat
- 46:26vegan. You've never, you've never had
- 46:29spaghetti like and that's not even vegetables.
- 46:33But yeah, vegetables, very common thing.
- 46:35But it doesn't matter cuz Bill is just like he's got a whole
- 46:39hawk in his mouth and he's just ripping at it and he goes, this
- 46:42is great. Fucking all of this shit, Yeah.
- 46:44Why haven't I been eating meat? Yeah.
- 46:46And then he's, he's fucking Marsha.
- 46:48Yeah. And then by the fire by the fire
- 46:50animated They they like transformed that sex and I
- 46:55didn't. I was confused because it seems
- 46:58like the big howl and then the transformation was that an
- 47:02orgasm? Did the orgasm into his wolf
- 47:05fleeness or did he is that just like a howl?
- 47:11It seemed pretty. I I think, I think in this
- 47:15moment the werewolf is a transformation for semen.
- 47:20Like a metaphor. Yeah, Yeah, OK.
- 47:23The. Howl is the ejaculate.
- 47:25Yeah, yeah, he's embraced his inner animal.
- 47:28And because he. The the snout is the pee pee,
- 47:30but not literally. Metaphorically, he still has a
- 47:32pee pee. That's we assume we don't.
- 47:36And that's true. I don't know the werewolf
- 47:38anatomy. That's true.
- 47:39It could all. It could be completely
- 47:41different. So, yeah.
- 47:43And everybody is howling. The whole colony is howling.
- 47:46This is woken up, Karen even more so.
- 47:49Yeah, it's it's like a big deal. So Terry finds Eddie's drawing.
- 47:55Yeah, she brings Eddie's drawings with her, and as she's
- 47:58driving along, she gets close to the colony and she recognizes
- 48:03this view is the same as one of the views Eddie had drawn.
- 48:06And as she's out investigating that, she hears Terry.
- 48:13I'm like a dumb dumb. She just follows that ominous
- 48:16whisper through the woods. Yeah, right to a house and she
- 48:21just stumbles on it. Yeah, and then she finds another
- 48:24creepy murderer room. This is also just not a good
- 48:27house you want to go into like that.
- 48:28It's like it's littered with like skinned animals outside all
- 48:32over the place at various types. So many times on this podcast,
- 48:37like especially with Wrong Turn and Texas Chainsaw, like don't
- 48:41go in, don't go into a motherfucker's house.
- 48:43Especially if you see dead animals of any kind, like that's
- 48:47just it's spelling a bad time. Yeah, if nothing else, that
- 48:51means this person has guns and you are trespassing.
- 48:53Yeah, like. But in this scenario, she walks
- 48:57in, sees Eddie's calling card :) on a room, goes in there, and
- 49:02then it's all when she's attacked.
- 49:04Yeah, it's, it's got all of his drawings.
- 49:06It's just. Blaming, but also you need a
- 49:09better plan. Yeah, it's the same setup as his
- 49:12apartment. It's got the drawings all over
- 49:14the wall. It's got the :), it's got the
- 49:16porn I like. To imagine every drawing he did,
- 49:19he did 2 of so he could have both.
- 49:23Yeah. Both places outfitted.
- 49:24I appreciate he did the thing where he signed his work.
- 49:27He must really believe in himself to do that.
- 49:29Yeah, he signed all of his artwork with his first and last
- 49:32name. Sorry, that was my straw
- 49:34squeaking. Eddie Quist.
- 49:38That's his full name. Eddie Quist.
- 49:40Eddie Quist So yeah, he's signed all the stuff.
- 49:43And wouldn't you know it, Terry is fucking around in his other
- 49:48home. So he comes out and attacks her
- 49:51and she ends up jumping through a window and she goes and hides,
- 49:57but he finds her. But she has taken an axe from
- 50:01like a log splitting area because we're in the woods.
- 50:03There's always going to be that. And she cuts off the the paw,
- 50:08and we see the paw turns into a human hand.
- 50:11Yeah, it's, it's so well done. They did a great job with that
- 50:14and this. Is in fact not Eddie, as we will
- 50:16find out later. Did we find out it's?
- 50:19TC cuz TC later is like look what your bitch friend did to me
- 50:22and he shows like his little stumpy arm.
- 50:25OK, see I wasn't sure if they grow back but.
- 50:29I feel like they probably. I assume that they do eventually
- 50:33grow back. They did a good job.
- 50:35They can. Wake from the dead.
- 50:36Although Eddie did come back from the dead and he still had
- 50:39like bullets in his skulls. Yeah, well, that's true.
- 50:42They did a good job making it feel like it could have been
- 50:48Fuck. What's his name?
- 50:49Bill, too. Because like, the next shot we
- 50:51see, he's wrapping up a cut on his arm there.
- 50:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 50:54And then because I thought maybe it was him, maybe he grew his
- 50:56arm back. I don't know, but he's walking
- 51:00around the house, he's got his shirt off and he's got claws
- 51:03like scratches on his back, and Karen is wanting to know where
- 51:08that came from. And he's like, probably when I
- 51:09was attacked the other day. And she goes, no, you don't have
- 51:11those scratches the other day. I've noticed Marsh has been
- 51:15sniffing around you and I've noticed you've been sniffing
- 51:17around a little back and he. Yep.
- 51:21What an asshole. Yep.
- 51:25We came back to Terry. She has found the main building
- 51:28of the colony and she runs in, She runs into the doctor's
- 51:31office and she's using the phone.
- 51:33She's calling Christopher. My notes look like it, says
- 51:39Chris Stapler. Chris Stapler.
- 51:41That's that's that country artist your parents really like,
- 51:43right? Chris Staple gun.
- 51:46Yeah, OK. Yeah, and he calls or she calls
- 51:49him, and then she's like, hey, look, like actual werewolves are
- 51:53here. I just got attacked by one.
- 51:55And then he's. Like Chris is, like you said,
- 51:57you're in an office, right? And she goes, yeah, he goes, is
- 51:59there a file cabinet? She's like, do you want me to
- 52:02hide in? It.
- 52:03Yeah, like what? Are you?
- 52:05He's like, no, no, look for Eddie Quist's file.
- 52:07So she opens up the drawer and when you know it, Quist comma
- 52:12Marsha. Quist comma TC your family
- 52:17family. Family and then I like this shot
- 52:20like she's pulling up the folder and then like a wolf hand just
- 52:23like comes down there and like takes it out of her hands that.
- 52:26Feels so like that is so Looney Tunes coded in a way that I
- 52:29absolutely love. Yeah, it was.
- 52:31Fun. Great.
- 52:32Yeah, I that is kind of nice because I like that some of
- 52:36these, like they have some sense of humor.
- 52:39Yes to it here. Now Terry is screaming into the
- 52:42phone that she's being attacked. So Chris calls the cops and
- 52:45tries to get them to come out there.
- 52:47So she is attacked and she is bitten.
- 52:51So Karen, she is so upset that Bill slapped her.
- 52:57And she's like, you know what? Terry's on her way down.
- 53:00I'm going to call Christopher, and he's going to come pick up
- 53:02both of us. You stay, Do whatever the fuck
- 53:04you want to do. So she walks into the office to
- 53:07use the doctor's phone. And that's when she finds
- 53:09Terry's body. And then Eddie comes to her and
- 53:14he's like, I trusted you and you betrayed me, dude, you're a
- 53:16murderer. Do you think she ever trusted
- 53:18you? No.
- 53:20So he, it is just, you know, basically like he's not in
- 53:24werewolf form, he's in human form, but like with bullets in
- 53:27his head and he like digs one out and I guess that like he
- 53:31decides that he's going to change once he gets that bullet
- 53:33out. That was pretty cool.
- 53:34Yeah. Yeah.
- 53:36So like this is I. Thought he was going to pull out
- 53:37a piece of his brain because he said I want to give you a piece
- 53:40of my mind and I really thought he was just going to.
- 53:42Like pull out a piece of. His brain.
- 53:43That would have been really fun. Yeah.
- 53:46So here is where we get the the transformation really, really
- 53:50well done. And then she throws.
- 53:52OK, yeah, I didn't know what it is.
- 53:55I've wrote down all my guesses here.
- 53:57She either throws water, liquor, acid, or holy water.
- 54:02Yeah, none of those really makes sense because this is where the
- 54:06doctor gave Bill his shot, so I don't know what was thrown on
- 54:11him. I assume acid.
- 54:13Yeah, it burns him. Yeah, it.
- 54:15Burns him. It's enough to distract him long
- 54:17enough for Karen to run out and she gets into her car.
- 54:20However, she cannot drive off because two men stop her.
- 54:23And they're like, you're just going to need to come with us.
- 54:25Like cops or Rangers or whatever.
- 54:27Yeah, I don't know. Meanwhile, while all this has
- 54:29been happening, Christopher has went back to the magic shop,
- 54:31gotten a whole case of silver bullets, and he's now on the
- 54:35road. I love Dick Miller being like,
- 54:37wait, no, I have to get those a price by a jeweler.
- 54:40So we we don't fully know if they're full silver until he
- 54:43shoots it. That's cool.
- 54:44Yeah, I do like that. Like is it gonna?
- 54:48Work. Yeah, it's funny, but also like,
- 54:50it introduces a bit of, like, tension there.
- 54:54Yeah. So Karen is now confronted by
- 54:58the whole colony. They have a surprise party like
- 55:01all organized at the barn here. Yeah.
- 55:04Hi Karen. Happy birthday.
- 55:06Not really. Here's your dead friend on the
- 55:08table. We're going to tell you all of
- 55:10our secrets. We're going to do the bad guy
- 55:11monologue and tell you what our plan is, and we're going to
- 55:15stall just long enough for your friend Chris to get here.
- 55:18Uh huh. Yeah, it's Doctor Wagner.
- 55:21Just telling her about the whole thing, Like, hey, we would
- 55:24really like for you to join us. He's like, listen, my whole
- 55:28thing is that like werewolves, like we should be able to
- 55:31cohabitate peacefully. We just got to control
- 55:34ourselves. We got to seek inner peace.
- 55:37You know, we, we, this is a gift.
- 55:40We. Can do this.
- 55:41He's wanting to like, she's a special case because she's
- 55:45famous, yes. So they don't want to just like
- 55:47make her go missing because people are going to go snooping
- 55:49around then. But Marsha says, so we need to
- 55:53make it look like an accident. And Doctor Wagner's like, wait,
- 55:57what? And it's because a lot of the
- 56:00people there are not happy with having to control their blood
- 56:03lust. Yeah, they're.
- 56:04Not OK with this system of living.
- 56:07They want to just go and eat whoever.
- 56:10Yeah. So Marsha's basically taking
- 56:11over whomever. Yeah, and she's basically ruling
- 56:15all of them at this point. And then they all turn on Dark
- 56:18or Dark on dock. Christopher arrives, he finds
- 56:23the scene from Terry's whole incident, and then Eddie comes
- 56:27and approaches So. I thought Eddie was half.
- 56:29Turned. I did too.
- 56:31I think he's burnt from the acid he's burnt from.
- 56:33The acid, his skin's falling off, he looks like he's
- 56:36decomposing but that also doesn't make sense because we've
- 56:38established like we're very loosey goosey with the self
- 56:42resurrecting powers. I see.
- 56:44I think you retain the damage that you had when you were a
- 56:48werewolf. So he got burned and and then
- 56:50now he's still burned. It looks like his skin is
- 56:52starting to putrify. Well, you know, I he had a
- 56:56completely different anatomy whenever that stuff happens.
- 56:58So whenever he's changed back to being a human, it could have
- 57:01affected it in really weird ways.
- 57:03But I like his look here. I think it's like a really
- 57:06interesting look. And I like his confrontation
- 57:09here with Christopher, like, yeah, cuz I thought he was half
- 57:11changed too. But yeah, he like plays a
- 57:14recorder because we saw before when Terry was there, he hit the
- 57:17record button on he wanted to record her murder.
- 57:19Yeah. So he plays it back to
- 57:21Christopher and Christopher, like he he's so cocky.
- 57:25He hands him a rifle. Yeah.
- 57:28He's like here, take your best shot.
- 57:29Yeah, he absolutely does not believe Christopher has silver
- 57:33bullets, but guess what he does? And he double taps.
- 57:37Good. Job Christopher.
- 57:38So she goes down to he goes down to the barn, follows the like
- 57:42retreat center path or whatever the fuck it was that he called
- 57:45it. And he shoots another one of the
- 57:47werewolves and he shoots the doctor.
- 57:49The doctor's the one who just gets clipped.
- 57:51But it he goes, oh, thank God. And then he died.
- 57:54I think he just placed it. Yeah, OK.
- 57:56This just would not be involved in the same way.
- 58:01Yeah. Like, everybody's like stepping
- 58:03up on him now. But then he like put it, he
- 58:05forces them all in the barn. Everybody into the barn, lock
- 58:08the door and then they run out to their car after they've set
- 58:13the barn on fire. So they are attacked by wolves
- 58:16once they're in the car, but they manage to get away.
- 58:18They shoot through the roof as you do and as they're driving
- 58:22out there's a cop on the road. He's kind of blocking the exit
- 58:24out. He's also a wolf, so he starts
- 58:26getting a little wolfy with them, but they shoot him and
- 58:31they. They're they're confronted by
- 58:34even more werewolf at this point, which they and.
- 58:36Their car has, yeah, their car has been shot, so it's exploded.
- 58:41They're trying to use the cop car, but the rest of the wolves
- 58:43are surrounding them. And they eventually get at the
- 58:47start. Yeah, as they're driving off, a
- 58:49wolf happened to get in from the top, and Karen shoots it.
- 58:54And it turns out that that one was Bill.
- 58:57So they're now they're done. They're on their own.
- 58:59She's like, we have to warn everybody.
- 59:01Yeah, so they're back in the city now.
- 59:03We cut to her getting prepped for being on the show.
- 59:06And Chris is saying, I don't know if I can do this.
- 59:09And she's like, we have to do this.
- 59:11And at first, we don't know what he's talking about.
- 59:12We think maybe just, like, trying to share what they saw,
- 59:15Like, goes for me. I'm thinking like, oh, yeah, I
- 59:18would be nervous to say this, too, because how are people
- 59:20going to believe it? Yeah.
- 59:21But really, as it turns out, she goes out there.
- 59:24She doesn't read the teleprompter.
- 59:26Instead, she reads this that they had prewritten together and
- 59:29then she transforms, she changes on air and then Chris shoots
- 59:35her. And so the thing that he was
- 59:36saying, I don't know if I can do this, was shooting his face.
- 59:39Which I think. Is kind of sweet.
- 59:41Yeah, yeah. And I forgot, I guess before
- 59:45Bill was the one because, like, we saw in the car after they
- 59:48shot him, like she had her shoulder bit.
- 59:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:51And then we cut to the bar. And then there's just some
- 59:54people. We get a lot of different
- 59:56people's reactions, which I really like that, too.
- 59:58We get kids watching like, oh, my God, mom and dad, it's a
- 1:00:00werewolf. And then everybody's like,
- 1:00:02that's not real. There's no way.
- 1:00:04And then at that bar, it cuts over to Marsha and she orders a
- 1:00:08rare hamburger. And she just witnessed the whole
- 1:00:10thing and. Yeah.
- 1:00:13She so we know that the the wolves.
- 1:00:16They live on. They lived on.
- 1:00:17Mm hmm. At least she did that one.
- 1:00:19Yeah. She probably like, used another
- 1:00:22one as like a human werewolf shield and just like burst
- 1:00:25through the barn doors. Yeah.
- 1:00:26Probably. Yeah.
- 1:00:29So yeah, that's how the movie ends.
- 1:00:32So do you change your rating after discussing it any?
- 1:00:35I think A7 is still correct. I think it's a it's a pretty
- 1:00:38solid movie. It's an easy watch.
- 1:00:41It's fun. I wish that we got a little bit
- 1:00:44more like on the front end to kind of build things up a little
- 1:00:49bit more because we get a lot of like nightmares.
- 1:00:51We get a lot of transformations, which yes, special effects work,
- 1:00:55You want to highlight that, but it feels like it pads the time
- 1:00:59in a way that like could be used to like bulk up the story some.
- 1:01:04For me, I wanted to to just breathe some more.
- 1:01:07It just felt like so many things went so fast there in the
- 1:01:10middle. And like I just, yeah, like we
- 1:01:13could have done something way better to develop these people.
- 1:01:19We could have had more scenes of them doing like the
- 1:01:21investigation instead of like jumping immediately the
- 1:01:25werewolves, like see that progression and then, you know,
- 1:01:29like have more like you were saying before of that Bill and
- 1:01:32Terry conflict build up will make it a little bit better,
- 1:01:35like have it have more of a punch whenever it happens.
- 1:01:39I think I'm gonna I'll, I'll make it a 675.
- 1:01:43South 6.875 is our final score. OK, that's pretty good.
- 1:01:47That's about on par with IMDb, Yeah.
- 1:01:49Yeah, a little bit higher, but that's normal for us.
- 1:01:52Yeah, OK. Who did you relate to?
- 1:01:59Pre werewolf bill, she's like no thanks, I don't eat meat.
- 1:02:03That's sweet. OK.
- 1:02:10I guess I would relate to, I'll relate to Eddie because of like
- 1:02:16I whenever I was a kid, like I would do drawings and my dad
- 1:02:20always told me like, put your name in the bottom corner
- 1:02:24initially. That way, you know which it's
- 1:02:26actually really cool because like I will go back and I will
- 1:02:30see my sketchbook and I'll see like the date that I actually
- 1:02:33did a drawing back in the day. And it's really cool being able
- 1:02:35to like look back at that type of stuff right there.
- 1:02:38I always sign mine just my initials and then the month and
- 1:02:42the year. That works too.
- 1:02:43I remember I did a sketch and it was like we had kind of a
- 1:02:46collage thing at work. And so I was like, this is
- 1:02:48really good. Who is TW?
- 1:02:52My terrible hand is gonna get me killed someday.
- 1:02:56Absolutely, Absolutely. If you die and you did all that
- 1:02:58stuff, I would get credit for some of it and I would take it.
- 1:03:02You would take. It.
- 1:03:02And that's only me. So you're a Hallmark story.
- 1:03:07After I die, you're the widower. And you're now you're in the
- 1:03:09scenario where you've got to prove that you're the artist.
- 1:03:12And you're like doing the live portrait.
- 1:03:13And you're like, yeah, like I'm changing art style.
- 1:03:18That's the difference between me and Jesse.
- 1:03:19Jesse's really good at realism. I'm not so much.
- 1:03:21Yeah, I can't. And I can't do cartoons the way
- 1:03:23you can. Yeah, like I absolutely my brain
- 1:03:27will not. I can't.
- 1:03:29I can't make a cartoon look good.
- 1:03:32We just. Yeah, our brains work in
- 1:03:34different ways. Yeah, OK, so let's do a dream
- 1:03:42sequel. Do you not want to know what
- 1:03:45Talia and how do you feel? Yeah, yeah, Well, how did Talia
- 1:03:48feel about this? Oh, Talia is very restless.
- 1:03:51I think she gets nervous when we watch werewolf related things
- 1:03:55because you know, she, she's worried what our reactions are
- 1:03:58going to be if we're going to be unduly influenced.
- 1:04:00I think these movies, I think she's just like worried that
- 1:04:03it's going to be poor representation for her people.
- 1:04:06Yeah, also, like Ginger Snaps has come on a couple of times on
- 1:04:09autoplay when we haven't been home.
- 1:04:11And that involves a lot of, like, dog death.
- 1:04:13And she's like, it's always a little bit like, am I gonna have
- 1:04:15to Watch Dogs die? That's true.
- 1:04:16So I think that this, like, this is Talia's first nightmare.
- 1:04:21It's like dogs out there hurting other dogs reputations.
- 1:04:25So yeah, I think this is scary for her.
- 1:04:28I think she's gonna give it a nine.
- 1:04:32OK, I think the Zoe's Warrior is very obvious here.
- 1:04:37I think it's TC. Because you can like, sniff
- 1:04:41everything out. Yeah, You know, like we have Zoe
- 1:04:44is like the hunter here. Like, go take care of that.
- 1:04:47You know, do your investigation. Zoe, you can do it.
- 1:04:50That's true. Yeah.
- 1:04:51I think that she would. Her and TC would have a nice
- 1:04:53conversation again. And also like, if you're gonna
- 1:04:55eat it, like if you kill it, eat it.
- 1:04:58Yeah. That's her mentality,
- 1:05:00absolutely. I don't think she, I hope she
- 1:05:03hasn't eaten some of the things she's killed.
- 1:05:05Here. Oh, she definitely has.
- 1:05:06Gross. Feel cool.
- 1:05:08OK, so now it's time for our dream sequel.
- 1:05:16Dream Sequel and I know that there are existing sequels,
- 1:05:19haven't seen any of them. No, neither have I.
- 1:05:22OK, so Chris is a bad shot and he misses her.
- 1:05:35So we we open immediately following that and you see that
- 1:05:38Karen hasn't died. And now let's say, oh, OK, so
- 1:05:44she turns the rest of the newscast into werewolves too.
- 1:05:48And now they've become like a werewolf propaganda.
- 1:05:51Then they have their whole station and it's a werewolf
- 1:05:54brand. Oh my God, I love that.
- 1:05:56Yeah, and like Marsha sees this on her TV.
- 1:06:01And she gets mad because the propaganda they're selling is
- 1:06:04different than the propaganda she wants people to buy.
- 1:06:06Yeah. Like, what if, like, and she
- 1:06:10told them about the colony. So like, we have like all these
- 1:06:12people swarming, they're trying to become werewolves, but she's
- 1:06:15like, wanting to be really selective about the people that
- 1:06:18become werewolves. So she's really mad about like
- 1:06:21them blowing up her whole thing. Yes, yes.
- 1:06:24So she goes to the city. Everybody's becoming a werewolf.
- 1:06:27Yeah, it's it's like the cool thing.
- 1:06:29Yeah. And like Karen's faction, like
- 1:06:31they're taking like applications that basically everybody's
- 1:06:37accepted. And then so Marsha comes in, she
- 1:06:39steals some of the files and it's like a reverse of like what
- 1:06:43happens in the first one. And like in this one, like where
- 1:06:45he had Chris like doing investigative journalism, he's
- 1:06:48now going through a attempted murder trial.
- 1:06:52Yes, but also just going back to Marsha sneaking in and getting
- 1:06:57the files this time it's like a reversal and it's like the human
- 1:07:00that's in there and Marsha's in there in wolf form, but she like
- 1:07:03rips up the files. So it's like a dog ate my.
- 1:07:05Whole That's good. I like that a lot, yeah.
- 1:07:08And then at some point, Dick Miller just says like.
- 1:07:12Dick Miller. Dick Miller starts his own like,
- 1:07:15independent radio broadcasting, but it's like under a stick
- 1:07:18because he's busier than ever. Oh, you know what I want?
- 1:07:21I want him to have like a gremlin in the shop because it's
- 1:07:28the magic store he would have mog wise.
- 1:07:32Yeah, So he like, he's busier than ever at the store, but he's
- 1:07:35also really annoyed because he's still like, the more people are
- 1:07:38like, no, werewolves are totally real, the more he's like,
- 1:07:40they're fucking not. But also he doesn't want to hurt
- 1:07:42his business. So he starts his own, like,
- 1:07:43independent radio show, but he's like working under a pseudonym.
- 1:07:47Yeah, he switches to witches or vampires instead.
- 1:07:49Like he like out front, like there's like clearly like a new
- 1:07:53lab of like wood covering the werewolf fire and it's just like
- 1:07:56witches. OK, there we go.
- 1:08:01That'll be fun. So tag on am IA wolf.
- 1:08:09I think I'm a wolf. Yeah, I'm probably a wolf.
- 1:08:14That's really hilarious for us. You're gonna have to give
- 1:08:17everybody the back story on that.
- 1:08:19It's was it? What's it?
- 1:08:22What song is it? Duran, Duran Duran.
- 1:08:24Hungry. Like the wolf?
- 1:08:24Hungry. Like the wolf.
- 1:08:25Yeah. Those are Travis's lyrics to it.
- 1:08:28Because am IA wolf. I think I'm a wolf.
- 1:08:31Yeah, I'm probably a wolf. And that is exclusively how he
- 1:08:37sang that song. For how long have we lived in
- 1:08:39this house? About four or five years now,
- 1:08:42OK. And you came up with that drunk
- 1:08:44by the pool, 2 apartments before that.
- 1:08:47So yes. So that's where we're living off
- 1:08:50alumni. So about 7:00 or 8:00.
- 1:08:53Years this. This tagline has been in the
- 1:08:56making. I think that's a good tagline
- 1:08:57for this though. Am IA wolf?
- 1:08:59I think I'm a wolf. Yeah, I'm probably a wolf.
- 1:09:05Fuck it, let's do. It OK cool.
- 1:09:07That could be another alternate tagline.
- 1:09:09Fuck it, let's do it. Let's.
- 1:09:11Do it. Yeah.
- 1:09:12OK, cool. Let's do some reviews then.
- 1:09:15All right, cool key. Let's send this thing home.
- 1:09:18So I grabbed a user review on IMDb.
- 1:09:22It's a one out of 10. It was reviewed in July of 2015.
- 1:09:26So from a more modern lens, Joe Dante got it right with
- 1:09:31gremlins. This one not so much.
- 1:09:34Big fan of gremlins and always heard tell of how good the
- 1:09:37howling was. Problem was, I'd never been able
- 1:09:40to get more than 30 minutes into it without something annoying me
- 1:09:42so badly I had to rage quit. Well, I finally got through it
- 1:09:46right to the end and yeah, it isn't for me.
- 1:09:49Not sure what the budget was on this thing, but man oh man does
- 1:09:52it look bad. It's shot with soft lighting and
- 1:09:55not enough lighting and most of the time looks like Vaseline was
- 1:09:58on the winds. I think it's a technique to mask
- 1:10:01the low budget special effects. Absolutely.
- 1:10:03Yes, also the famous transformation scene which I
- 1:10:06finally got to goes on for like 2 minutes too long and isn't
- 1:10:10that interesting. I prefer the rat in From Dusk
- 1:10:13Till Dawn. At least he doesn't mess around.
- 1:10:16Having recently watched ET again, I think I've identified
- 1:10:19my major problem with Alan. Poor Dee Wallace.
- 1:10:22Who else? Or who also plays E TS Mother is
- 1:10:261 is on screen most of the time and she's just not a good
- 1:10:31actress. She's more convincing here than
- 1:10:34an ET, but really she just doesn't sell any of it.
- 1:10:37And that really pulls the picture down when your
- 1:10:39protagonist, your anchor and just doesn't convince you or
- 1:10:42draw you in. So yeah, well, probably Landmark
- 1:10:45in 1983. Wrong gear.
- 1:10:47The Howling is one I've always struggled to get through.
- 1:10:50Tried to force myself to like it, but at the end of the day,
- 1:10:52it's a movie. It's not homework.
- 1:10:53You don't have to like it. If I had to pinpoint the other
- 1:10:56main thing that frustrated me about The Howling, it would be
- 1:10:59that the actual werewolves don't get to do much.
- 1:11:02It's been so long transforming, it's like that's all they're
- 1:11:05good for. It's pretty funny when you think
- 1:11:08about it. Again, a question of what was
- 1:11:10possible with the special effects, but earlier films did
- 1:11:12more. Those frock 2/19/92, Dracula
- 1:11:151931 are incredible to this day. The Howling 1983, so wrong?
- 1:11:20Not so much. It's funny.
- 1:11:22Maybe the genre just isn't for me.
- 1:11:24I can't think of a single werewolf movie I've liked except
- 1:11:27the remake of American Werewolf, and that one probably just sent
- 1:11:30me because I saw it at the right age in the cinema.
- 1:11:32Maybe there's a time for werewolves and you only get one
- 1:11:35chance. It's like falling in love.
- 1:11:38Yeah, I was actually going to say I think this person just
- 1:11:41prefers vampires to werewolves. That's what.
- 1:11:44I was saying I like the attitude of like, at the end of the day,
- 1:11:46it's a movie. It's not homework.
- 1:11:48If you don't like it, you don't have to force yourself to watch
- 1:11:50it. And yeah, I mean, we open this
- 1:11:52up talking about like, I'm pretty picky about creature
- 1:11:55features and every werewolf movie absolutely does not hit
- 1:12:00for me. And I'm definitely going to be
- 1:12:02more inclined towards vampire movies.
- 1:12:05But I think it's a difference in the types of stories you can
- 1:12:07tell. I do think that this one was I,
- 1:12:12I like that it started off with like a murder investigation.
- 1:12:15And I like how it ended up coming around.
- 1:12:16I wish we had gotten a little bit more along the way.
- 1:12:19Me too. That would have made this movie
- 1:12:21better for me. Yeah, I mean, I'm in the same
- 1:12:23boat. I like, I disagree.
- 1:12:25About Dee Wallace, though. I do too.
- 1:12:26Yeah. I think Dee Wallace is great.
- 1:12:28But I, I like how this person, like they, I feel like this
- 1:12:32person has a good mindset for this because they didn't watch
- 1:12:37it, but they didn't feel like they could do a review until
- 1:12:39they watched it in full, which. We have read, we have read
- 1:12:44reviews before. They're like, I hated this movie
- 1:12:46so much I didn't finish it. And it's like, well, you can't
- 1:12:48really. Like why are you reviewing it?
- 1:12:51Yeah, like, yeah, in this situation right here.
- 1:12:54Like, if you're going to review it, yeah, watch the whole thing.
- 1:12:56But you know, you don't have to, like, watch the whole thing if
- 1:12:59you don't want to. I've stopped plenty of movies
- 1:13:00myself just because I just wasn't feeling it.
- 1:13:02And I don't want to force myself.
- 1:13:04But, you know, I'm in the same boat.
- 1:13:06Werewolf movies just aren't really too much for me.
- 1:13:10And maybe I did miss my chance like this person did, but I
- 1:13:14think this movie did have a lot of good things going for it.
- 1:13:16Though, like you said, I like the investigation part in that
- 1:13:21killer angle would have been a lot better.
- 1:13:23But OK, let's go on over to our listener reviews over on
- 1:13:29Instagram. Missing Real, says the werewolf
- 1:13:32movie of the 80s. That's a lot compared
- 1:13:36considering they had a lot of competition in that year alone.
- 1:13:38Yeah, in the year alone, yeah, I do think it is definitely one of
- 1:13:42the like if you had to name 5 werewolf movies off the top of
- 1:13:45your head, it would be one of the first ones you would come
- 1:13:47to. Yeah, this one.
- 1:13:48An American Werewolf in London for sure.
- 1:13:51Cubesafe says the first selling is legit and I love how they get
- 1:13:54exponentially crazier. I'm intrigued.
- 1:13:59Yeah, I, we, we have a discord with friends and there was
- 1:14:05somebody in our discord the other day talking about the
- 1:14:10howling too, because it was on sale on like a movie store.
- 1:14:16And he described it as a Giganut.
- 1:14:19And I don't know what that is, but it made me laugh.
- 1:14:21It's like the Giganut that is the howling too.
- 1:14:25So apparently it's a pretty wild ride.
- 1:14:27I thought it was really funny all right over on blue sky,
- 1:14:31Johnny says Joe Dante doesn't disappoint with his entry into
- 1:14:34the werewolf sub genre. Love the cast of characters,
- 1:14:37werewolf design and investigative and report angle.
- 1:14:40My only criticism is that transformation in the doctor's
- 1:14:43office is way too long. OK, that's interesting.
- 1:14:46I that's two times I've seen that complaint and I wouldn't I
- 1:14:51thought that that was like the draw right there.
- 1:14:53I thought that's why a lot of people like to watch the movie.
- 1:14:55It's because of like the transformation and that right
- 1:14:58there. But.
- 1:14:59I yeah, I think that I liked the bubbling on the face and I liked
- 1:15:04hearing how it was done. But yeah, we spend like a solid
- 1:15:0860 seconds watching the snout elongate.
- 1:15:11Which I thought was, I liked it. I think that's the thing that
- 1:15:15suited to me right there though. Like like a special effects
- 1:15:19display. It's cool.
- 1:15:20I I'm here for it. I don't care if it took two
- 1:15:22minutes. And I don't know if this is a
- 1:15:24hot take or not, but I think that a transformation in
- 1:15:27American Werewolf in London is better.
- 1:15:29Well, yeah, I had a lot more money, like 17 times the amount
- 1:15:33of money. No it.
- 1:15:35Was it was like 5 million, right?
- 1:15:37Oh, wait, yeah, I'm thinking of another one.
- 1:15:39It was. Yeah.
- 1:15:41OK, almost six times the amount of money.
- 1:15:43Yeah, that was Wolfen that had 17 times the amount of money.
- 1:15:47And I'm just saying if you know you have less budget and you
- 1:15:50know it's affecting things like that, you don't spend as much
- 1:15:53time with it. And don't blame the howling
- 1:15:55because they had that guy. He was going to do the effects
- 1:15:59on this movie, but he got poached.
- 1:16:02He had to follow the money. Yeah, it's it's true.
- 1:16:05But I, I think it was, I do think it's a good
- 1:16:07transformation, I just don't think it's better.
- 1:16:09No, it's it's a valid criticism. I get it.
- 1:16:11I understand why people feel that way.
- 1:16:14And the final review half price horror says fantastic movie that
- 1:16:18really captures the crossroads horror was it was at in 1981.
- 1:16:22You've got old school horror guys like Macnee and Carradine
- 1:16:25who see no reason to change and a fresh young generation with a
- 1:16:29whole new way of doing business. That's an interesting way of
- 1:16:32looking at it right there. Yeah.
- 1:16:34Yeah, I guess you kind of. Is that like a drawing the
- 1:16:37comparisons with Marsha and the doctor too, at the end, like the
- 1:16:43clashing. Yeah, Like you get the older
- 1:16:45doctor and then like the newer, like Marsha, like Neuerjin,
- 1:16:48where their ideologies are clashing.
- 1:16:51Yeah, I can see. That yeah, I guess that would be
- 1:16:53like a running theme in the movie there.
- 1:16:55That is kind of cool. OK, well, and that's it.
- 1:16:59That's it for the reviews, which means that's it for this week's
- 1:17:01episode. And next week, I just wanna
- 1:17:05remind everybody, don't forget to pack your lawns.
- 1:17:11We're finally talking about it. This is our Patreon voted movie.
- 1:17:15So that's that's what we're gonna watch.
- 1:17:17It is currently streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus.
- 1:17:22You can also rent it from YouTube, Fandango at Home,
- 1:17:24Google Play, or Prime if you are choosing to rent through those
- 1:17:29services right now. It's wild to me that that would
- 1:17:31be on Disney Plus. Well, it's cuz it's the whole.
- 1:17:34I know thing I get it, I just will never get used.
- 1:17:37To yeah, no, I remember us talking about I was like, we
- 1:17:39should watch Hercules together and be like, yeah, we can use
- 1:17:41Disney Plus. I was like, well, we could also
- 1:17:43use Disney Plus to watch Buffy, and you're like, don't like
- 1:17:45that? Yeah, it's.
- 1:17:48It's, it's strange to me, but yeah.
- 1:17:50We have the package so that way you can have ES.
- 1:17:52Yeah, I think I get my sports. Like David.
- 1:17:55Throw it on Bananarama, man. Yeah, apparently love sports.
- 1:17:59Yeah, he was a huge sports fan and he was very happy to have
- 1:18:04people Boo the Eagles. Yeah, he was.
- 1:18:07He was at Comic Con. We did Comic Con.
- 1:18:09I did. Comic Con.
- 1:18:10That was fun. We met some of the Twilight
- 1:18:14folks. I've got about 20 selfies of
- 1:18:17Jackson Rathbone on my phone, which is really.
- 1:18:20Cool. Yeah, we met like a whole crew
- 1:18:22of people doing Twilight cosplay on Fresh WE.
- 1:18:24Had a Twilight meet up. Kellen Lutz is a himbo in real
- 1:18:27life too and I love it. Met Billy West.
- 1:18:31Yeah, that was just I I literally couldn't talk.
- 1:18:34I kept tripping. Over America, he was, he was
- 1:18:36super cool too. He was a really nice guy and.
- 1:18:38We got the last picture was Sting of the Day, and this is
- 1:18:42his last year doing face paint at cons.
- 1:18:45Yeah, that felt really special. And he was.
- 1:18:48He was so nut like as we got there and they were was closing
- 1:18:50up and we're like shit. And we started to walk away
- 1:18:52because it's their job. They're closed for the day.
- 1:18:54We get it. And I think he sensed child
- 1:19:00Travis's disappointment from deep within.
- 1:19:03And he was like, OK, I'll do one more picture.
- 1:19:05Yeah, he was really nice. Yeah, So that was fun.
- 1:19:08We got that shit on our social media, if you want to look at
- 1:19:10that. Yeah, we got to our friend
- 1:19:13Justin 3000 did a panel on indie comic book making with some
- 1:19:17other indie comic book artists. That was real interesting.
- 1:19:20He's cool, Yeah. You should check his stuff out.

- 1:19:27bubbies know. Hey, have you you guys have your

- 1:19:34I haven't been able to meld them out because I keep again,
- 1:19:37running into some roadblocks that are keeping me from getting
- 1:19:40it mailed out, but it'll be. Once again, the postage issue.
- 1:19:43He did not buy very many stamps. Last time he didn't buy a full
- 1:19:46book. I was on, I was at a gas
- 1:19:48station. They don't sell full books
- 1:19:49there. You have to buy them
- 1:19:50individually. So I just bought what I needed
