Transcript
- 0:22None. A hamster with a blunt.
- 0:34Pen knife for doing quicker, quicker, quicker.
- 0:39Just to answer Luke's question, Yeah, Yes, Luke, we're doing all
- 0:42four episodes. We're going to skip into episode
- 0:442 anytime now. So Simon, do you want to give me
- 0:47a count in and ask for Episode 2?
- 0:50Right. OK, in 54321, let's go.
- 0:57Hang on, have you just started the episode?
- 0:58No. No, no, I've not started the
- 1:00episode. Welcome back to our Harvester
- 1:02with a Blood Pen Knife, the Doctor Who Commentary podcast
- 1:05where we are here to talk about episode 2 of Time in the Rani.
- 1:09We probably should have warned people because they probably
- 1:11just press play on their episodes.
- 1:13So press play. Rewind back to the start of
- 1:16episode 2. Sigh.
- 1:18Time in the Rani. Yeah, well.
- 1:22Oh my God, look at this. Anthony Carroll.
- 1:24I've re evaluated. He's gone.
- 1:26He's gone from three out of 10 to two out of 10, you bastard.
- 1:29Anthony, Anthony, Anthony Anthony.
- 1:32Let's see if we can get it up to A4 for him by the end of the
- 1:36this commentary. And that Sarka get Tom Newsome
- 1:39went. That was seamless.
- 1:42Welcome to behind the scenes of a hamster with a blunt pen
- 1:45knife. Alex Hargrave says all hail
- 1:47season 17. Definitely, Yes.
- 1:50Well, Alex, you know, I love it as much as you do.
- 1:53So. So, yeah.
- 1:55So when did you first see this one, Joan?
- 1:59The VHS that came out it was paired with Mark Oderani was.
- 2:02It was. Yeah.
- 2:03That was a good month. I can remember the two reviews
- 2:06by Vanessa Bishop in Doctor Who magazine, one where she said it
- 2:09was a bit of a silly story and the other one where she said it
- 2:12was a very silly story. Do you remember?
- 2:14I do remember, yes. I loved it though.
- 2:17I remember sticking it on and just thinking it was full of
- 2:20energy, full of colour, full of good humour.
- 2:24Well, how would I have been? I would have been in my mid
- 2:26teens. Yeah.
- 2:28Would that been sort of 9495 time, wasn't it?
- 2:31And. I definitely read the opinions
- 2:33that everyone hated this at the time so I wanted preparing
- 2:36myself. It was.
- 2:36One of those things that everyone knew and I it still
- 2:40comes painfully near the bottom of every poll ever.
- 2:44Yeah, but we were a panto family, so this was always
- 2:47custom built for me. Yeah, I said two in the Twin
- 2:48Dilemma. I was brought up on B movies.
- 2:51I was also brought up on pantomimes.
- 2:52So all of this mad camp is it's just.
- 2:55Perfect. Just your wheelhouse.
- 2:57Yeah. Do you know what?
- 2:58I don't mind being an advocate for it because I think if you
- 3:01look underneath all of the surface, glitz and campery,
- 3:06Yeah. What you've got here is a
- 3:08solidly structured story that builds to an effective climax.
- 3:14It has twists and surprises along the way.
- 3:16The one thing it's lacking is character drama.
- 3:20There's there's a few attempts, like when when Sam dies, you're
- 3:23having a bit of trouble with the sunlight there.
- 3:25Yeah, I am. Hang on, I'm just gonna stand
- 3:27up. As if I could sort these
- 3:28curtains out so that I. Oh.
- 3:29My God, a live stream on side scratch.
- 3:36Oh, that's. Better, there we go, our.
- 3:38Numbers have just doubled. Your viewing figures have just.
- 3:43No, I, I, I do think the nuts and bolts of this, it is a very
- 3:47solid story. And that's because Pip and Jane
- 3:49in their old hands and they know how to structure telly exactly.
- 3:52And. You know, I know it wasn't to
- 3:56Andrew Cartmel's tastes, but we we will get 3-3 solid years of
- 4:02Andrew Cartmel coming in. But you need, you need,
- 4:05sometimes you need an old hand to come in and just get it
- 4:09started and give Sylvester a solid start.
- 4:13And it was never going to be the most exciting.
- 4:20That's not quite the word I'm looking for.
- 4:21The most intriguing or modern adventure, maybe, But it makes
- 4:28sense. Everything follows logically to
- 4:31the end. I want to answer that question.
- 4:34I want to answer that statement you just made, but should we
- 4:36press play on Episode 2? Yes.
- 4:37We better have it. Everyone's been very patient
- 4:39with us. Yes, because otherwise we'll end
- 4:41up with a twin dilemma where we've done 45 minutes before
- 4:44we've even got to the start of the episode.
- 4:46We'll. Go on and count us in.
- 4:47OK, OK. In 54321 crash.
- 4:54Now I'll like I said, I love this, but I completely agree
- 4:58with what you just said there. What they should have done at
- 5:00this point is something that was extremely contemporary, a bit
- 5:05call, you know, basically what they should have done was
- 5:09remembrance of the Daleks. But they were not set up at this
- 5:13point to do remembrance of the Daleks and or a story like that.
- 5:17And not even necessarily set in the 60s, but that tone, that
- 5:20tone of confidence, you know that and.
- 5:22I don't think, I think there just wasn't the confidence
- 5:27behind the scenes to do something like that.
- 5:29And so we're going to do Doctor Who by the numbers because JNT
- 5:32can do this. He'd need something traditional
- 5:35to get this era started, and this will do.
- 5:38I mean this, like you said, it's born out of desperation.
- 5:41Yeah, the fact that something this glorious can be born out of
- 5:43desperation. Happy days, Luxin Jenkins says.
- 5:47According to the Discontinuity Guy, this is the only story that
- 5:50name drops Elvis. Yep, and is it the only one the
- 5:54troll? Mrs. Malatrop as well.
- 5:57It's getting my mum to explain who Mrs. Malaprop was because I
- 6:00had no idea I. Just said Malatrop.
- 6:04That's a malapropism, that is. Anthony Carroll says this is
- 6:09more exciting than episode one. OK.
- 6:12Look at that bubble falling in the water, Yeah.
- 6:14In the in the water, in the spinning round, it's it's really
- 6:18well done. And are they?
- 6:19Using the old mine war paint box here.
- 6:21Yeah, yeah, they are. So this is this is a new thing
- 6:24called Harry and Paint Box. So they can colour in the skies
- 6:27and they've decided that mind warp is great, but it's a bit
- 6:31insane what they do because it's new technology and they're just
- 6:35going to go for it. But here it's used far more
- 6:37subtly. And we'll get this sort of
- 6:39through the McCoy era alien planets that they all have
- 6:43different colored skies or have a planet painted in the
- 6:46background or, or whatever. And it's I do see a subtle
- 6:49effect. The very best use of buying as
- 6:51mind warp of that paint box is that mine war opening though of
- 6:55the TARDIS in the sea with that. Yeah, it looks so alien.
- 6:59Stunning, isn't it? Absolutely.
- 7:01Stunning like the the planet in the background above the tent in
- 7:05Greater Show. I think that was nicely done do.
- 7:08You know, there's another really funny line in a minute where he
- 7:10goes. And another thing Mel, why was
- 7:13the Ronnie dressed like you and she just goes you smashing?
- 7:16Conscious, I think they are. Funny writers, yeah.
- 7:23When they're when they're trying to be funny, I mean, I think
- 7:26they're funny writers when they're not as well, yes.
- 7:29Oh yeah, I mean some of the overblown dialogue is is really
- 7:32funny as well. Cosy.
- 7:38So now we're building up to the mystery again about what's
- 7:41behind that door. And maybe we do wait a little
- 7:44too long to get there. Yeah.
- 7:46Well, you know you're going to have some mysteries you've got
- 7:48to keep keep things going for the audience.
- 7:50Don't want to give everything away straight away.
- 7:52Oh, this is pure panto. There's not one spark of decency
- 7:56in her. I'm overwhelmed.
- 7:59I mean, she's basically. In the audience look.
- 8:01Straight at the camera. I mean, come on, that is so
- 8:05funny. I'll stay very still now.
- 8:11The effect isn't is quite blocky because probably of the
- 8:15generations that they're having to go through, it looks good
- 8:17enough. It's Nick, Carroll says.
- 8:20This is making me want to watch all seven hours of studio
- 8:22footage. It says 7 hours worth.
- 8:25I don't even. I couldn't sit through that.
- 8:26Oh my word, there is a very funny bit where Kay Omara's got
- 8:31the brolly up and it's raining in the quarry and she just turns
- 8:36to like the production assistant goes.
- 8:38It ain't like this on Dynasty. She's in some miserable quarry.
- 8:43Oh, here we go. This is that line.
- 8:44Why was the Ronnie dressed like you Mel in?
- 8:48Disguise practicing another one of her talents and.
- 8:51I'm sorry, we've been letting people down on the quotes this
- 8:53episode. Let's have a look at some of
- 8:55this dialogue. Does she slam his head right
- 8:58into the machine? Oh yeah.
- 8:59We've we've just had that bit. Yeah, she's quite rough with us,
- 9:02didn't she? I think she's got, you know,
- 9:05like a sex chamber like Mr. Gray.
- 9:07I think she likes being rough with men.
- 9:10Now, these tech traps down here, so they're basically like
- 9:13vampires, aren't they, 'cause he.
- 9:14Yeah, yeah. They they, they feed on blood
- 9:17that doesn't really go anywhere, but it's just nice and grizzly
- 9:21and gruesome and people say they never turn the lights down in
- 9:25the exactly. And it's a lovely contrast to
- 9:28what's going on upstairs. Yeah.
- 9:30Where it's very bright and and very well lit.
- 9:34But I think the the tetrap sound effects as well and it feels
- 9:38sort of dank. I don't know if you've ever been
- 9:40inside a bat enclosure. Yes.
- 9:42Fucking stinks in. There, funnily enough, the The
- 9:46Doctor Who exhibition at Longley is now a batting closure.
- 9:49So. So you walk through the Tardis
- 9:53doors still, because they're still there, into this massive
- 9:56batting. So it's still a Doctor Who
- 9:59exhibition. Daniel Knight says Kate O'Mara
- 10:02should have done more comedy. Oh hang on, she did triangle the
- 10:08first episode of Triangle where she's on the deck of that shit
- 10:11with her tits out. It's so funny.
- 10:13And in the pouring rain. Michael Craig sort of looking in
- 10:17his monoculars going, Oh yeah, it was never like this on the
- 10:20Hyperion 30, this music. Now we can't hear it.
- 10:24But as he's going up here in this game, it's very techno.
- 10:31This you can almost hear this. Really going for it.
- 10:34Hey, take a sample of this folks, and then put a beat to
- 10:36it. You can almost hear it in the
- 10:37clubs at the time. And I think this scene sort of
- 10:42exemplifies why people were not fans of Mel, because she
- 10:45literally stands there and screams at the monster when she
- 10:48could have run away. You know it's not have.
- 10:52You have you ever been tongued by a tetrap?
- 10:59My God, your tongue's, your tongue's well, long.
- 11:03Not saying anything. Wash out the assholes of the ham
- 11:05fam. Sorry.
- 11:09Sorry everybody. Yeah, I do think this shot now
- 11:14of them wobbling the plastic in and out of the machine.
- 11:17Yeah, well, he's quite adept at maneuvering.
- 11:21Is that right? This.
- 11:25Isn't trying to bring their science in, isn't it?
- 11:27Yeah. Absolutely.
- 11:28So we're back with with our old Doctor Who friend,
- 11:32thermodynamics and the Second law.
- 11:34The more you put things together, the more they fall
- 11:36apart. Yeah.
- 11:38So perhaps before we get there, you could sort of explain to me
- 11:42what the Ron is attempting to achieve here.
- 11:46She wants to make more of that goo because it's the thing that
- 11:50keeps the brain alive. That's right, and the brain is
- 11:54figuring out the calculations. Because it's being fed in with
- 11:57all the genius of the Genii that she's captured.
- 12:02And and then the spaceship is going to do.
- 12:06Is what going to hit the asteroid of?
- 12:09The asteroid at the right time to release the power of strange
- 12:12matter. Which is going to give her the
- 12:15ability to. Turn Lukersha into a time
- 12:18manipulator because the brain will expand to fill the gap
- 12:22between the Cronons and stuff. But as essentially it means the
- 12:27entire reality itself is going to be rewritten by the Rani.
- 12:31Exactly. Yeah, but actually, do you know
- 12:34what it is a lot of plot elements that are introduced in
- 12:37the early episodes that do all come together in the finale to
- 12:42create a big threat. So to say, the model work is
- 12:46really, really good. That model of the Rani's base is
- 12:50superb, yeah. But Luke SIM Jenkins says, is
- 12:54Mel's top a top or like long Johns?
- 12:58It is like I think it's a top with trousers.
- 13:02So so me 1987 fashion expert. What?
- 13:09Zeidi's oysters? Real name again Dave.
- 13:12Dave says any sci-fi show with a giant brain works for me.
- 13:15Me too. That was a that was a shock at
- 13:18the time. I just remember the Torah, this
- 13:21giant brain being there. Wow, I didn't see that coming.
- 13:24Haven't they do it again in in new Doctor Who?
- 13:27Of course. Planet of the huge.
- 13:28Yeah, it's a giant pulsating brain as well.
- 13:32They're the best kind. I was.
- 13:34You see that? The Doctor's all about risk
- 13:37environmentalism. He doesn't want to litter up
- 13:38location load of plastic. Doctor Who being woke there,
- 13:42that's. Right, Yeah.
- 13:45He doesn't want to use the petroleum based plastic, you
- 13:47know, because it's not good for the environment.
- 13:51It's a very sizeable organ, says Daniel Warmsley.
- 13:55Underworld in Blake 17. Ultra World.
- 13:57Yes, yes, the great big pulsating brain at the heart of
- 14:00Ultra World did. I just say Underworld.
- 14:03You did. Yeah, I said Underworld when I
- 14:05meant the invisible enemy in the Twin.
- 14:06I think I'm obsessed with Underworld at the moment.
- 14:08I think it's Fraser's fault. I think he's getting you ready
- 14:11to do that commentary. I'm actually doing it next week,
- 14:13the I'm doing commentary, so that's probably why it's in my
- 14:15mind. Oh, now this is a lovely scene.
- 14:19Now this is a genuine character moment in time with Arani.
- 14:22Yeah. Hold on to your hats, folks.
- 14:26The trouble is, is when you've got Faroon and what's his name?
- 14:33I can and male all on the screen at the same time.
- 14:36Your eyes start to bleed because there's a bit too much colour.
- 14:39So poor Wanda Ventum's actors got to get through all of that.
- 14:43She looks very dignified considering.
- 14:46What she's I start what I said with Colin and his costume, you
- 14:48know, a good actor can work with.
- 14:50Carry it off and she is a good actor.
- 14:54I think the line that she says yet another victim and she's
- 14:58genuinely crying. That's and.
- 14:59They're again, they're proper tears and she's I love that
- 15:03she's got sort of slightly multi coloured makeup to compare with
- 15:06with Icona and she looks gorgeous and she's wrapped up
- 15:14sensibly in a big cloak because it's obviously really cold in
- 15:18that quarry. Well.
- 15:20At least male's dressed up as well, which is unusual.
- 15:23And they've given her trainers. Yeah.
- 15:25Which is really good. She's not saddled in the high
- 15:28heels. So Bonnie Companion.
- 15:31Bonnie says she recorded Alma Foe, then she did something on
- 15:33the stage and then she literally came straight into doing the pre
- 15:38production on Time of the Ronnie.
- 15:40So she travelled through the night to get here after being on
- 15:43the stage the day before and she was absolutely exhausted when
- 15:47she was doing these scenes. I mean, that's bloody good
- 15:49makeup because you don't look it.
- 15:50No, not at all. Why would we have these things?
- 15:56You know, when we see these skeletons in Doctor Who, it's
- 15:58the same in time Lash. Well, like, you'd think they'd
- 16:00fall apart a bit, wouldn't they? Without all the flesh.
- 16:03Yeah. Like they they do tend to stay
- 16:06together these. Well, yeah, I mean, that's the
- 16:09power of fiction. Look at those tears.
- 16:12They're genuine. They're really good.
- 16:16Yeah, in fact, you know what, because I'm watching sort of a
- 16:17small screen, the colours not the usual sort when I was
- 16:20watching it on my 52 inch 10. It's the Blu-ray, doesn't it?
- 16:25But it works against the the bleak background of the quarry.
- 16:29And maybe how are we standing on that rock there?
- 16:33She looks like a little person, didn't she?
- 16:36She was so tiny. So what do you think about the
- 16:41accessorizing foil? Well, it's a bit cheap, isn't
- 16:45it? But if we knock every Doctor Who
- 16:48story that does things a bit cheap, I The Twin Dilemma had
- 16:52consoles that were covered in tinfoil, so.
- 16:56And sofas that were covered in shrink wrap.
- 16:59Exactly. I'm back in laboratory as mail.
- 17:01You like to get bit of stream playing.
- 17:06Actually, there's a sequence here in a second between Male
- 17:09and the Doctor, which I just love.
- 17:11It really shows the difference between her and Colin and her
- 17:15and Sylv. Yeah, it's really nicely written
- 17:18and really, really well played. I'm not sure about the line
- 17:21where under the carpet. Me.
- 17:24Washer woman me. Washer woman.
- 17:27Yes. And I recently worked out that I
- 17:31think that is a reference back to Mark of the Rani where she's
- 17:34the yeah of. Course, of course, yeah.
- 17:38I just thought it's taken me all these years to to work that out.
- 17:42I thought his insult just hadn't improved since Ham fisted bum
- 17:46vendor. Well, there's also that as well.
- 17:49Unimaginative, plodder and things like that, you know.
- 17:52Oh, I love those tetrap costumes.
- 17:55They're they're a really great monster.
- 17:58But the idea of, I know they've got peripheral vision because
- 18:02they've got eyes all around their heads and they still turn
- 18:04around. I do see that it's a bit.
- 18:07Of a you know it doesn't matter. That visual of it is great.
- 18:10Oh, here we go. And they even get comedy music
- 18:13of like, should we do this scene?
- 18:18Come on, I'll be I'll be male. You be the doctor.
- 18:21OK. All right, he at least had.
- 18:24To I'm ready, I'm ready, all. Right.
- 18:26Me. So I'm here.
- 18:29You. You.
- 18:32Where's the Doctor? What have you done with the
- 18:36Doctor? Now we're getting the truth.
- 18:39What have you done with him, you brute?
- 18:40He's here. It's me.
- 18:42What's up with me? Never.
- 18:45You're nothing like it if the doctor's been cut.
- 18:50Drop the melodramatics. Your prophetic impersonation
- 18:53doesn't fool me. Incidentally, that wig's not
- 18:56you. And cute Kesamara pulling her
- 19:01wig. Absolutely perfect.
- 19:05I mean, it is so silly. This.
- 19:08Yes, I just like silly, you know, you said to me about
- 19:13coming home after a really miserable day and wanted to pull
- 19:16something off the shelf that's just going to make you smile.
- 19:19And that's this one of them, isn't it?
- 19:21Yeah. Obviously the usual Oh no, hang
- 19:24on, you told me I am Mel. Who's the Ronnie?
- 19:30Try looking in the mirror, that face of evil.
- 19:33I've had enough of this dribble. And so had many fans at this
- 19:37point. You don't even talk like the
- 19:40doctor, you miserable fraud. You're a raving lunatic.
- 19:47Because if you're the Rani, I'm dicing with destruction.
- 19:50And if I melt now, the world shall do is give me carrot
- 19:53juice. What's his favorite drink?
- 19:58Favorite I hate it you out haven't I wish what rolls?
- 20:09The difference is purely perceptual.
- 20:13I'll feel your pulses. What is this?
- 20:16Fair exchange is no mockery. You feel my pulses, I'll feel
- 20:18yours. It's pulses.
- 20:20Pulses are euphemism. No, no, no.
- 20:23It's the two double. I know I was just being rude.
- 20:27Double pulse, Then you really are the doctor.
- 20:32That's what I've been trying to tell you.
- 20:33Now yours. It's a lovely.
- 20:38Way he just looks up Mel. And and that's it.
- 20:46Now we've got that warm relationship between the two of
- 20:49them for the rest of the season. And I love this.
- 20:52She takes off his hair and she starts playing with his hair.
- 20:55And she never would have got away with that with Colin.
- 20:57No, well, she couldn't reach. Oh, and it's that hint of
- 21:05melancholy that we'll get in. His doctor all the time is here
- 21:10right from the beginning and it's really lovely.
- 21:14Lucas and Jensen's Mel's throwing 7 around like he's the
- 21:17carcass. And Tom Newsome says Definitely
- 21:22up there with the funniest Doctor Who stories.
- 21:25Yeah. For sure it really.
- 21:26Is it really is? I mean, you and me laughed our
- 21:28way through the Twin Dilemma, but this is, I think this is
- 21:31supposed to be funny. Yes, I'm not sure the twin
- 21:34dilemma. The Ronnie's TARDIS has really
- 21:38taken a downgrade. But you know, I think the
- 21:45matting of her onto the model is absolutely brilliant because
- 21:50it's not a full set. It's literally CSO no.
- 21:52It works, but that gorgeous TARDIS?
- 21:54I know, yeah, they'd accidentally jumped even though
- 21:58he. Was furious, wasn't he?
- 21:59He really wanted that kept. Which that probably happened
- 22:03during the hiatus though, right? Probably I I suspect so.
- 22:07Michael Gray's like, yeah, we're actually going to be making any
- 22:10more. So anything we've got in the
- 22:11stores, just get rid. Of it.
- 22:16So that's it. So now they're trying to put it
- 22:17all together. He's been sort of working all
- 22:19the innards. Yeah, and it's a nice way of
- 22:24restating the mysteries to the audience as well, who might not
- 22:27have seen part one. So you've got the mystery of
- 22:29what's behind the door and the Doctor and Mel working it out
- 22:32together. I'm not saying that kids are
- 22:34stupid, of course I'm not. But I think, you know, there are
- 22:38sort of five to 10 year olds watching this and sometimes to
- 22:43have some of this stuff explained because I've always
- 22:45ranted on about that scene in Terror the Virgo.
- 22:47That's where they do the. He did not switch on his
- 22:50translator. But actually.
- 22:52Sometimes spelling this stuff out is a good idea.
- 22:57And I think Pippa Jane kind of, they know the audience they're
- 23:00gearing this towards. They ain't doing it to 30 year
- 23:03old Doctor Who found sophisticates.
- 23:06No, they're doing it for the kids.
- 23:07And this Doctor Who hasn't been aimed at your next generation of
- 23:12children for a long time. And then and there really is a
- 23:15whole generation of kids who found Sylvester McCoy as their
- 23:18as their doctor. I mean, Steve always said to me
- 23:23that he found Doctor Who far too scary, but he'd seen Sylvester
- 23:28McCoy had been cast and he thought, well, but he's not a
- 23:31scary man. He'll be a nice man and he'll be
- 23:35a a gentle Dr. so I can watch this, you know.
- 23:38And so you've got that that generation of children who
- 23:41suddenly latch onto their their new Doctor Who.
- 23:44And there's a whole new set of fans that arrived this year who
- 23:48are absolutely passionate about this era.
- 23:50What's interesting in Season 24 is, is then so they try and push
- 23:55away from sort of the darkness so they tell lighter stories
- 24:00with a lighter tone underneath them all.
- 24:03In Paradise Towers, that's about a massacre.
- 24:06In Devon Abanamin that's about genocide in.
- 24:10Set of people in the bus who just all get killed.
- 24:14And all the people on Ice World get murdered, and people are
- 24:18being frozen. So there's all this dark stuff
- 24:20going up underneath. Yeah.
- 24:23And in a way that's more uncomfortable.
- 24:26It's what I say. About Christmas caroling I.
- 24:29Said that about Christmas Carol, this lovely light, probably
- 24:32Doctor Who's story that just happens to have this weird theme
- 24:35of the doctor manipulating someone's life.
- 24:37And I like that sort of incongruity.
- 24:41It's a bit uncomfortable, but I like it.
- 24:43Yeah, but. Yeah, don't know.
- 24:44A Christmas Carol, mind. The gentleness in the Doctor and
- 24:48Doctor Who should never go away. And it really had.
- 24:52I think before this there was not.
- 24:55We haven't had a gentle story really since.
- 24:59Probably Enlightenment maybe? Yeah, I think so.
- 25:03It's been a long time and the. Five doctors.
- 25:05We haven't had something that is.
- 25:07What do you mean by by gentle? I think maybe it's where maybe
- 25:16Time Lash is a is one as well, where it's not dark people doing
- 25:22dark things with mercenaries and like.
- 25:25Like stuff that's frock rather than gun.
- 25:28Is that? Yeah.
- 25:28Yeah, exactly. Yes, that that's it.
- 25:30Where we haven't had a frock story for a long, long period at
- 25:33this point because Eric Seywood is not that kind of person.
- 25:38Actually, maybe verboys have been been.
- 25:41Yeah, as well. No, Verboys is a massive
- 25:42massacre that features a load of people on the compost heap.
- 25:47That's that's a really bleak story.
- 25:49Colin. Neil, you're making some
- 25:50excellent points about all the bleak stuff that happens in
- 25:52season 24. Well, Colin, thank you so much.
- 25:55Well, we're good at this, you know.
- 25:58Fraser Gregory's just turned up. Have we asked all these
- 26:01questions? Oh.
- 26:02No, we haven't. We've been too busy talking.
- 26:04I'm so sorry. Yeah.
- 26:05Did you know it's a second ago? You had a non dialogue scene of
- 26:09McCoy going through the set and he's looking at every part of
- 26:12the machines and then the door and he's putting it all together
- 26:16and he said there's like a sound intelligence that's emerging.
- 26:20Absolutely. It's good stuff, isn't it?
- 26:24Yes, you're professional, says Colin.
- 26:29Yeah, with sinister undertones, just like season 24.
- 26:34Oh my God, is this the bit where she takes the wig off?
- 26:36Yeah, you know, don't you love? This bit, the information is
- 26:42essential. Is it?
- 26:43So I told you the chemical composition, I could do this.
- 26:49And the lighting goes down. Look.
- 26:52Fabulous. Yeah.
- 26:53Sigh. You know, don't you?
- 26:56She knows how to do a proper reveal, doesn't she?
- 26:59Look at the way she takes her hair out.
- 27:01She's it's. Evil.
- 27:02She is dripping evil. And then she gets tied up by the
- 27:06stuff. It's ridiculous and she's just
- 27:09flailing around. It's a tiny knot.
- 27:13Anyone so funny? So.
- 27:16Your usefulness is not over. You still have a role to play,
- 27:23and I think this is another good.
- 27:24Can I find out? Yeah, it's.
- 27:26Good. Yeah, it's Scott.
- 27:28Bat enclosure Luke Sims, the most evil hair.
- 27:33Ever. It's true.
- 27:35We've been searching Luke for a long time for more evil hair
- 27:38than the run. Wow, look at that shot of them
- 27:40all upside down. Yeah, and, and it's dark, so you
- 27:43can't see the Doctor hiding and you can just see the colour of
- 27:48the male costume there. It's great, isn't it?
- 27:52The lighting is great and as usual, they're pumping in the
- 27:56dry ice. Always helps.
- 27:59Yeah, I like the fact as well that we the very lame jokes that
- 28:02he tells in the next episode. You know, surely we can see eye
- 28:06to eye and all this stuff. We wait until the next episode.
- 28:09We just get the the scares here. Yep, exactly.
- 28:14Ah, Fraser has jumped in with a question.
- 28:15Oh, we've asked them that one. We have already.
- 28:17Answered, I'm afraid. But well, I do have the rest
- 28:20sort of lined up for Part 3 do. You know what, do you see that
- 28:23texture out there with his sort of tongue coming out like that?
- 28:26I can remember a drunken night down Brighton once, right?
- 28:29I was pushed up against a wall outside of nightclub.
- 28:33That fella came at me with his tongue.
- 28:35I thought he was going to suck me dry like an industrial vacuum
- 28:38cleaner. I was like, get away from me
- 28:39mate. Honestly, there's no way to
- 28:43approach a man of my stature. Honestly.
- 28:46And see how at least good cliffhangers then.
- 28:48Have we taken you back up to three out of 10 then?
- 28:52Maybe, maybe we could get to a four.
- 28:53Come on, we could do this. We could do this.
- 28:56Razor, come on. Hit us with another question
- 28:57before we out Episode 2. Hang on.
- 29:00I've got one of his questions here.
- 29:01OK, go on. Who?
- 29:02Makes the best companion mail to the Doctor or URAC to the Rani.
- 29:08Oh go on, you answer that. What is it?
- 29:14I think it's Mel, isn't it really?
- 29:16I Urac is a bit obsequious and is.
- 29:21Your right heap. He is, and that's where the name
- 29:24comes from. I get Pippa Jane.
- 29:27We're very proud of that so, but I quite like the your powers are
- 29:31truly wondrous, Mistress Ronnie. No, I like the fact that he
- 29:36cotton's on at the end. He's like, yeah, and he's not
- 29:38putting up with this. Yeah, exactly.
- 29:40So that's, that's the best kind of evil assistant henchman who
- 29:44then realizes that he's going to be double crossed and his he's
- 29:47going to be, yeah, his usefulness is at an end.
- 29:50And so. He he gets the last laugh,
- 29:53doesn't he? Exactly.
- 29:56Well look, Episode 2 is done. The Rani has been unveiled.
- 30:01Are you ready to face the hologram of Death, otherwise
- 30:05known as male, in episode 3? Substantial as your scruples,
- 30:09Joe. Don't have any scruples.
- 30:11What are you talking about?
