- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble Then podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about network, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And in a week where once again we see why
- 0:13Speaker 1: our sport is the best sport because NRL is over,
- 0:17Speaker 1: nothing to look forward to, AFL is over, nothing to
- 0:20Speaker 1: look forward to. When we get to the end of
- 0:23Speaker 1: the sun called Super Netball season, we get a cracking
- 0:25Speaker 1: series of International netborle and that is what's been going
- 0:29Speaker 1: on this week. So there we go, another tick in
- 0:31Speaker 1: the box for us. I'm Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm kath Cox, back from all the places well, and
- 0:36Speaker 2: I've missed you guys.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Oh we've missed you.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Oh.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I don't believe that I saw your photos. I saw
- 0:46Speaker 4: your photos from you know, Dubai, and then I saw
- 0:50Speaker 4: your photos of you with your sister and your niece,
- 0:52Speaker 4: and I thought, she just forgets that we exist. Sounds
- 0:55Speaker 4: nice that you remember.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. I've had a random month of travel.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I went from Aubrey and Country Victoria to Dubai.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Actually Aubrey is in New South Wales, Victoria.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Correct, sorry, And then I went to Bendido in Country Victoria.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I've gone from the tiny little country Chance to Dubai
- 1:13Speaker 2: and then back again. But it's been it's been good.
- 1:15Speaker 2: It's nice to be on the ground again with you guys.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Not for long though. I know this week you're in
- 1:21Speaker 1: your car to Wollongong.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And then I get to see Elizabeth and Adelaide in Ragulaide.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I think. I think if there was a question like
- 1:29Speaker 4: what is the things that link Aubrey, Bendigo, Wollongong and Dubai,
- 1:36Speaker 4: Catherine Cox might be the only thing.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Yes, Well, if the question writers for Hard Quiz are listening,
- 1:44Speaker 1: there's one that you could run with. Yeah, because you, Liz,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you've been a topic on Hard Quiz, haven't you.
- 1:51Speaker 4: No, The diamonds have been a topic, the diamonds, okay.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Lizellis quite often frequents the new idea crossword okay, And
- 1:59Speaker 2: you're on something else the other day in the paper,
- 2:01Speaker 2: the paper crossword.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Maybe it might have been the paper.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Well, I had a great moment, Lizella's moment the other day.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So we've got friends. They've gone now, but friends from
- 2:10Speaker 1: Sweden came over. I had I hadn't met them. They're
- 2:12Speaker 1: Pizte's old mates. But we went out on a boat
- 2:15Speaker 1: Weedcht to take them out onto Sydney Harbor for the day.
- 2:18Speaker 1: It was great, and I'd met her the Sunday before
- 2:21Speaker 1: and then this was the Saturday and they were leaving
- 2:24Speaker 1: two days later and she said, I was listening to
- 2:26Speaker 1: your podcast and she's from Sweden, so she didn't really
- 2:29Speaker 1: know netball. We were talking about netball, and then she
- 2:32Speaker 1: was asking about you two, And as we came in
- 2:34Speaker 1: to doc at the end of the day, I went, oh,
- 2:36Speaker 1: that fairy there.
- 2:40Speaker 2: That's that.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So it was just a very nice moment of context
- 2:43Speaker 1: for our international guests.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how important she is. She has a fairy. Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yeah, So did you say that whoever had the topic
- 2:54Speaker 1: for the diamonds on Hard Quiz one?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yeah, you've been on Hard Quiz, Yeah, I.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Spectacularly in the fin like I was way ahead the
- 3:04Speaker 1: general knowledge round, and then in my specialist head to
- 3:07Speaker 1: head final round, didn't know anything and specialist round though, well,
- 3:11Speaker 1: so you know, you go on with the topic. So
- 3:13Speaker 1: I auditioned. There's a movie called High Society and it's
- 3:17Speaker 1: Grace Kelly being crosby Frank Sinatra Louis Armstrong, and so
- 3:23Speaker 1: I know that movie particularly well. So I auditioned on
- 3:25Speaker 1: the back of give me that, and they said it's
- 3:27Speaker 1: too narrow. We want you on, but can you do
- 3:30Speaker 1: a different specialist topic And they said, can you do
- 3:33Speaker 1: Grace Kelly? And it's so all right. So I researched
- 3:36Speaker 1: Grace Kelly and went on. But it wasn't it wasn't
- 3:41Speaker 1: something that came from within, this passion to know everything
- 3:44Speaker 1: about this beautiful, wealthy white woman who became a princess.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So the guy who beat me his topic was The
- 3:51Speaker 1: Rockford Files, which was a TV show in the seventies
- 3:55Speaker 1: starring James Gunn. It's like one hundred and forty episodes
- 3:58Speaker 1: of this storm. Jim was an expert in The Rockford Files.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So you know, generalist round, that's me knowing knowing lots
- 4:08Speaker 1: of stuff that doesn't matter about a lot of things.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That is my safe to say. You would still smash
- 4:14Speaker 2: all of us on Grace Kelly.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Now though probably you know I retained some information for
- 4:19Speaker 1: a short period of time. You could play Grace Kelly
- 4:22Speaker 1: in a biopic.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Well, we had We had to do a shoot for
- 4:26Speaker 2: Netball Australia years ago for the New Idea, and we
- 4:29Speaker 2: had to dress up as old Hollywood movie stars, so
- 4:33Speaker 2: there was five of this Monier Gerrad, Natalie Vmberdo, Chirell, myself,
- 4:37Speaker 2: someone else I can't remember. I was Marilyn Monroe. You
- 4:44Speaker 2: so bad.
- 4:45Speaker 4: That's so good because the only Movi I revemember being
- 4:48Speaker 4: compared to is you know, the evil woman in the
- 4:51Speaker 4: Minions who.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Chase I think you've told us that before, but I'm
- 4:57Speaker 1: laughing just as hard as the first time it was said.
- 5:01Speaker 4: The person who compared me to her was my daughter,
- 5:03Speaker 4: and Evelyn ran out of the movies screaming, and I
- 5:07Speaker 4: chased her.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I said, what's up?
- 5:08Speaker 1: That lady looks like you.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That would keep that should away? You should be thinking
- 5:14Speaker 2: you're going to sneak into her room. Hey, if you
- 5:16Speaker 2: were on the on that show, that same show is
- 5:18Speaker 2: what would your specialist area be? Oh that's a good question.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I actually watched that show all the time, and my
- 5:26Speaker 2: kids are always impressed by how much I know about
- 5:28Speaker 2: shit that doesn't matter. So I was like, Mum, you
- 5:31Speaker 2: know so much about random stuff.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I'll let you know. So like Carol and I go
- 5:34Speaker 4: well in the general knowledge round, right in terms of specifics,
- 5:39Speaker 4: what do I know a lot about?
- 5:41Speaker 2: It'd be something.
- 5:45Speaker 4: I mean, it might be the diamonds or something like that,
- 5:47Speaker 4: although the woman who did the diamonds knew more than
- 5:49Speaker 4: I did.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 5:50Speaker 4: You know the guys who do our stats, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 4: oh yeah yeah, like Michael. He always impressed me, Like
- 5:57Speaker 4: I'll say something. He goes, no you did that. No
- 5:59Speaker 4: I didn't, He goes you did.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So you know it's way more photographic memories.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Yeah, about And I think Carolyn, you're right. You have
- 6:05Speaker 4: to be really passionate about it. So I actually years ago,
- 6:08Speaker 4: when did a celebrity version of temptation? Remember temptation's part
- 6:13Speaker 4: of the century. So I did. I did that, and
- 6:15Speaker 4: I want it. I want everything because I knew I
- 6:18Speaker 4: know lots of stuff about, Like I've got a very
- 6:20Speaker 4: shallow knowledge about a lot of things rather than deep
- 6:23Speaker 4: knowledge about one thing. I don't know. Maybe my deep
- 6:26Speaker 4: knowledge might be the Julia Claudian era of Rome. That
- 6:30Speaker 4: would be it. That's about where my des lie.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I really I did not see that coming.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I would have definitely said history something, brother, because when
- 6:37Speaker 2: we're in Rome, she dragged me to see every rock that.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Would be Beverly Hills nine O two.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Mine is friends hands down.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Really yeah, Okay, yours might be girls of the Playboy
- 6:48Speaker 4: matching Oh that.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Too, But I think I think friends. I think friends.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Friddy akerlould take me in that one. I don't know.
- 6:57Speaker 4: You know, when we lived together years ago, when we
- 6:59Speaker 4: lived together so many nights, I would come home and
- 7:02Speaker 4: there would be Catherine and my husband sitting there watching
- 7:05Speaker 4: Girls of the play And I'm sure you're getting different
- 7:08Speaker 4: things out of it.
- 7:09Speaker 1: What was the narrative arc of that?
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Did they did they even know? I hastened to say,
- 7:14Speaker 1: drill down on one of the bunnies, but like, was
- 7:17Speaker 1: each episode on a different girl?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Or what this is? When he had his three girlfriends,
- 7:23Speaker 2: it was Bridget, Holly and Kendra, Oh dear, but they
- 7:31Speaker 2: went on to be household names. They became more famous,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and then they're all up and left in shock horror.
- 7:36Speaker 2: When they started.
- 7:37Speaker 4: They went for his like magnificent physique.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And his great looks. No, I don't think so, Oh
- 7:43Speaker 2: my god.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Anyway, you two, I'd come in and you'd both if
- 7:47Speaker 4: I've been out working, you'd both be sitting there watching
- 7:50Speaker 4: Girls of the Playboy Mansion, eating cereal for dinner. And
- 7:53Speaker 4: I was like, this is how civilization ends, not with
- 7:55Speaker 4: a bang, but a whimper.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Not with a bang, but with a bunny. So these
- 8:00Speaker 1: actually weren't the playboy bunnies. These were Hughes no girlfriends.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and they Well, this is the thing, respected partners.
- 8:07Speaker 2: He never allowed his girlfriends to be bunnies until until
- 8:12Speaker 2: the pressure from this show, and then these three did.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Y see, you're being educated right now, aren't you absolutely related?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Right now? Okay, so that's your specialist topic, the girls of.
- 8:23Speaker 2: The play going to go with friends. Just so I
- 8:25Speaker 2: don't sound like such a tragic Okay.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I could do. Yeah, Beverly Hills nine O two one
- 8:30Speaker 1: oh or Dawson's Creek. Have you guys been watching the summer?
- 8:36Speaker 1: I turn pretty No?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Do we need to?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yes? Well, this is very much in the zeitgeist at
- 8:42Speaker 1: the moment. So this is a Jenny harnbook that's been
- 8:44Speaker 1: turned into a series on one of the streaming platforms.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Knows this. It's this love triangle between Belly Conklin is
- 8:52Speaker 1: the Belle Conklin and the two and two brothers Conrad
- 8:55Speaker 1: and Jeremiah. And there's a great debate in the world
- 8:59Speaker 1: about whether you are team Conrad or team Jeremiah, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm team both boys because I can't stand Belly Conklin.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I think she's a disgrace. But apparently that puts me
- 9:09Speaker 1: somewhat in the minority. There's really no point in going
- 9:12Speaker 1: on about this, is there, because you two don't know
- 9:14Speaker 1: what I'm talking about it.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I've seen it. I see it often on the Thing
- 9:17Speaker 2: and I wonder is that worth watching? And always think no,
- 9:20Speaker 2: but I will.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Know I'm the thing.
- 9:21Speaker 2: What thing do you see like Netflix or whatever? On Netflix? Oh? Okay, yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 2: you know when all the options come up and I
- 9:27Speaker 2: find it completely overwhelming and I turn it all off
- 9:29Speaker 2: and go and watch Friends three.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Well, I think you would really like the summer I
- 9:32Speaker 1: turned pretty Actually, yeah. So it's three series, three seasons,
- 9:36Speaker 1: and it's just beautiful young people living in beautiful places
- 9:41Speaker 1: having having problems with their emotions. You know, it's it's
- 9:46Speaker 1: it's great. But I think Belly Conklin is no Joey Potter.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And if you're a Dawson's Creek fan, you will get
- 9:52Speaker 1: Friends obviously, but it's it's it's worth watching. But I'm
- 9:56Speaker 1: outraged by her. But we were trying to get it.
- 9:59Speaker 1: She watched it is Modern Family on rotation, and so
- 10:02Speaker 1: we're trying to get her to watch something else, and
- 10:05Speaker 1: we said, have you ever seen The Brady Bunch, because
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's like, I think that's important culturally. You've got to
- 10:09Speaker 1: haven't And she said, well, what's the Brady Bunch about?
- 10:12Speaker 1: And we were in the car. It's like, well, it's
- 10:15Speaker 1: the story of a lovely lady. Were bringing up three
- 10:21Speaker 1: very lovely girls and yet the youngest one. It is
- 10:28Speaker 1: the greatest theme song because you immediately not it goes
- 10:31Speaker 1: the three verses and then you go, well, it's the
- 10:33Speaker 1: story of a man named Brady Busy with three boys
- 10:35Speaker 1: of his own, four men living all together, but they
- 10:37Speaker 1: were all alone. And she so Pete and I thought
- 10:42Speaker 1: we were hilarious because we're going through this, but she
- 10:44Speaker 1: hasn't twigged because she's never seen the show. So then
- 10:46Speaker 1: we're just going well. And then one day the lady
- 10:49Speaker 1: met this fellolla.
- 10:51Speaker 4: And did she think that you two had just become
- 10:54Speaker 4: like experts in slam poetry?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah, big poets. But it's the greatest theme song ever
- 11:00Speaker 1: because you listen to it, you're all right, I'm up
- 11:02Speaker 1: to date. I can watch any episode of.
- 11:04Speaker 2: This safe to say, DoD have more questions and answers.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Well, and she hadn't gotten around the Brady bunch yet.
- 11:10Speaker 1: But wow, someone who I don't know, maybe Darryl. It's
- 11:14Speaker 1: Darryl Melton. Hi, Daryl. This isn't a job, This is
- 11:17Speaker 1: just a life suggestion for you. You could have no
- 11:19Speaker 1: Dribble as your specialist topic on hard Quiz and go on.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And you probably want to do it soon, because you know,
- 11:25Speaker 1: don't the episode's mount by the day where it's something
- 11:28Speaker 1: like eighty EPs are seventy plus? Yeah?
- 11:31Speaker 4: Yes, no wonder, I feel so old.
- 11:35Speaker 2: The good thing that video quality is not great today,
- 11:38Speaker 2: so you look a little pixelated.
- 11:40Speaker 4: We can't tell no, I am pixelated. The video quality
- 11:43Speaker 4: is fine.
- 11:43Speaker 2: It's just me, is that because I've had a big weekend, Elizabeth.
- 11:47Speaker 4: On no big weekend. Just had a few celebratory drinks
- 11:49Speaker 4: last night. It was my husband's birthday, so we turned
- 11:51Speaker 4: fifty seven.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Happy. Don't you get that look off your face?
- 11:59Speaker 2: Those sausages, I start to wither.
- 12:01Speaker 4: What we had sausages last The lead tray sausages is
- 12:05Speaker 4: going to start. He made it like a fire pit
- 12:10Speaker 4: out of all leftover farm stuff. It's really cool. I
- 12:14Speaker 4: suggested that he make them and sell them for a
- 12:16Speaker 4: living and he laughed. Anyway, the problem is he used
- 12:19Speaker 4: these little bits of steel that have got holes in them,
- 12:21Speaker 4: so the fire pit looks great, and then all the
- 12:23Speaker 4: coals fall at the bottom and then we spend the
- 12:25Speaker 4: night yelling at the children to not walk near the
- 12:27Speaker 4: fire pit. So there you go.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And the handles and stuff are hot, aren't they because
- 12:31Speaker 2: the whole thing is metal.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Yeah, the whole thing's metal and you can't pick it up.
- 12:35Speaker 4: It's way too heavy. So everything's hot. But anyway, so
- 12:38Speaker 4: but it's got a barbecue attachment to it. So last
- 12:41Speaker 4: night he just wanted to have a fire and sausage sandwiches,
- 12:45Speaker 4: which made it easy for me because normally I do
- 12:47Speaker 4: a big roast with all the trimmings, and I'm like,
- 12:48Speaker 4: his samaries is easy. Went and bought some bag salad.
- 12:51Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god, how good is bag salad?
- 12:53Speaker 4: But it meant that I had less time to be
- 12:55Speaker 4: preparing dinner and more time to be sitting and having
- 12:57Speaker 4: some wine. But it was It was lovely, and we
- 13:01Speaker 4: had some friends over as well, so who very in
- 13:04Speaker 4: a very sort of handy twist, They've got three kids
- 13:07Speaker 4: and the eldest and the youngest of friends with our
- 13:09Speaker 4: two kids. But rudely, we didn't have a middle kid,
- 13:12Speaker 4: so you know, poor Charlotte really has no one to
- 13:15Speaker 4: hang out with.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Poor Jan Brady.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah exactly.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Jane looked once again.
- 13:20Speaker 2: But the boys, why did they not like the middle boy?
- 13:24Speaker 2: Was the middle boy's name Peter? What did Peter hang
- 13:27Speaker 2: out with Jan? Well?
- 13:28Speaker 1: They did? They all hung out together because it was
- 13:30Speaker 1: a you know, the truth is one day former family.
- 13:33Speaker 1: That's the way they became the Brady b Jan was
- 13:37Speaker 1: by myself, but that was just middle child syndrome. Child
- 13:41Speaker 1: was just Marsha, Marsha, Marsha. When they did that Brady
- 13:44Speaker 1: Bunch movie. It's so funny. They have such a good job.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Yeah, here's the story of a lovely man.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Before we entirely move on TV. I've been looking in
- 14:01Speaker 1: Foolish Words because I knew I had seen something so
- 14:04Speaker 1: foolish words the book I found in my office of
- 14:06Speaker 1: the most stupid Words ever spoken, And this one I
- 14:09Speaker 1: think is quite funny. So Chris Tarrant describing UK who
- 14:13Speaker 1: wants to be a millionaire winner Judith Keppel on a
- 14:15Speaker 1: show called This Morning. She was practicing fastest finger first
- 14:18Speaker 1: by herself in bed last night. Oh that's very funny.
- 14:31Speaker 4: That's great, that's outstanding. That's your best one yet.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you, thank you. No one sent me any
- 14:36Speaker 1: dumb clips this week, so feel free. Dribblers shued me
- 14:40Speaker 1: a dumb clip of something that I can quote other
- 14:42Speaker 1: than foolish words out of here.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So cracker, now, can I tell you what I'm horrified
- 14:46Speaker 2: about tomorrow? So Harper is having a friend over school
- 14:49Speaker 2: holidays and all, and she's seen this challenge on kids
- 14:53Speaker 2: YouTube that apparently we have to do great. So it's
- 14:57Speaker 2: the blind deaf Mute challenge.
- 15:00Speaker 1: This doesn't sound very piece, by the way.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I know that's this is what it's called on YouTube. Okay, anyway,
- 15:07Speaker 2: so there's three of us, so her friend's coming over.
- 15:09Speaker 2: We have to bake something, but one of us has
- 15:12Speaker 2: to be blindfolded, one has to have thingies on what
- 15:15Speaker 2: are they called? You're wearing? Yes, and then one person
- 15:20Speaker 2: is not allowed to speak, and we have to make something.
- 15:23Speaker 2: So she's like, Mom, were going to do it. We'll
- 15:25Speaker 2: go to the shops while this stuff will make cupcakes
- 15:27Speaker 2: or something or other. I was like, Okay, no dramas
- 15:29Speaker 2: with this, We'll give it a crack. But I am absolutely,
- 15:32Speaker 2: at no point going to be the blind I was
- 15:34Speaker 2: going to say, you have to have caes on fire,
- 15:37Speaker 2: or there's a beata with someone's finger in it. I
- 15:40Speaker 2: need to know about all of all of that stuff happening.
- 15:44Speaker 1: By far, the most appealing of those if I was
- 15:47Speaker 1: hosting a children's playdate, is where I couldn't hear Oh so, yeah,
- 15:50Speaker 1: she's already shocked on that though, So I'm not allowed
- 15:52Speaker 1: to speak, but least, but at least I can see. Yeah.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'll let you know how much shit ends
- 16:00Speaker 2: up on the floor and what these cupcakes taste like.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Will report back?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Ye?
- 16:04Speaker 1: So is she going to make her friend be blindfolded?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yes?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Okay, so you could get a little whiteboard and just
- 16:10Speaker 1: write stuff to Harper that she can't that you can't say,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and the friend cat's trying.
- 16:15Speaker 2: To cheat already.
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's not cheating, but it's more behavioral management.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Do that?
- 16:22Speaker 4: Do you need to be able to like do really
- 16:26Speaker 4: like emojis really quickly?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Scowl?
- 16:29Speaker 4: Yeah, smile. I've got a fourteen year old daughter now,
- 16:33Speaker 4: I think she'd be pretty happy if I was mute
- 16:34Speaker 4: for the rest of my life.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Just maybe even a day. How was her birthday.
- 16:39Speaker 4: You play, Yeah, it was great. Well, we talked about
- 16:43Speaker 4: it last week, Catherine, you went here.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Oh I did listen though I missed it. Sorry you didn't.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Sup pre occupied with with Gordy's stories of you know,
- 16:52Speaker 2: walking across runways at airports and stuff and trying to
- 16:55Speaker 2: get to Gibraltar.
- 16:56Speaker 1: That's so funny. I googled Gibraltar. She was right, it
- 16:59Speaker 1: is very It's a big, big rock.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I will funny about that. Who saw that coming? That
- 17:05Speaker 4: Gibralta was a big rock dribble as your heard it
- 17:08Speaker 4: here first, I was.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Remembering though, you know, she said nothing goes wrong on
- 17:12Speaker 1: holidays until the last day twenty nine and then and
- 17:15Speaker 1: then Liz had a good cockroach story. In twenty nineteen,
- 17:18Speaker 1: we went to Hawaii. It was a huge year of
- 17:20Speaker 1: travel for us because we had we're going Hawaii the
- 17:22Speaker 1: year before, but then there was a big volcanic eruption,
- 17:25Speaker 1: so we pushed into that year. And then we went
- 17:27Speaker 1: to the World Cup in Japan, and then no one
- 17:29Speaker 1: went anywhere for years, so it was very good timing.
- 17:31Speaker 1: But we were in Hawaii and we flew into Maui
- 17:34Speaker 1: and there were the grass fires we call them bushfires,
- 17:37Speaker 1: their grass fires over there, because everything is bigger and
- 17:40Speaker 1: better here in Australia. But we couldn't get from the
- 17:43Speaker 1: airport to our accommodation. There's like two roads that go
- 17:46Speaker 1: down that you go north south in Maui and Oprah
- 17:50Speaker 1: owns one of them. So Oprah, Yeah, Oprah owns one
- 17:53Speaker 1: of them. But so we couldn't get to our accommodation.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So we're at the airport and the guy the rental
- 18:00Speaker 1: place centers to this restaurant. So it's really good. It was.
- 18:03Speaker 1: It was very very very good, good service, lovely somewhere.
- 18:08Speaker 1: The locals when we sat there trying to find accommodation
- 18:11Speaker 1: for the night to get through and then talking to
- 18:14Speaker 1: the kids and it's like, all right, well, our fallback
- 18:15Speaker 1: position is we might have to sleep in the car,
- 18:17Speaker 1: which they thought exciting. No worst idea ever. But anyway,
- 18:21Speaker 1: the woman who aimed our airbnb eventually sent an a
- 18:24Speaker 1: She said, I can't get through on the phone, but
- 18:25Speaker 1: there's a youth hostel that is showing some vacancy. So
- 18:29Speaker 1: we jumped in the car and we went over there
- 18:30Speaker 1: and they had two rooms, so I slept in one
- 18:33Speaker 1: with Dottie and Pete was in another one with Lewis,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and I took Dottie into the shower area and because
- 18:38Speaker 1: they're obviously shared services, and she's a bit nervous but
- 18:42Speaker 1: also a little bit excited, like where are we what's
- 18:44Speaker 1: going on? You know, she's only sort of just turned six,
- 18:47Speaker 1: so trying to keep things calm. And we're in the
- 18:50Speaker 1: shower and drying her off and there's a really big
- 18:53Speaker 1: cockroach and I thought, if she sees that, we're not
- 18:56Speaker 1: going to get any sleep. So I had to stand
- 18:58Speaker 1: on this thing with my bare foot.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Could you feel its little fingers? Yes?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt everything. And I couldn't make a noise.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I just had to because she sees that, she'll think, well,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I can't sleep in this place because she has the
- 19:14Speaker 1: Catherine Cox love of insects.
- 19:17Speaker 2: This happened to us the other night, literally the other night.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So I was putting half of a bed and there
- 19:21Speaker 2: was a tiny and I'm talking tiny little spider that
- 19:25Speaker 2: just crept along her bedside table and same thing. I
- 19:28Speaker 2: was like, she sees that this is the gig's up,
- 19:30Speaker 2: Like this girl's not going to sleep anyway. She looks
- 19:31Speaker 2: over and screams and I'm like, come and sleep in
- 19:34Speaker 2: my bed.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I didn't even find Yes, my son was not scared
- 19:39Speaker 4: of spiders until Harper came to stay at our house,
- 19:41Speaker 4: and now he's scared of spider. You serious, because I
- 19:45Speaker 4: was scared of spiders when I was little, And I
- 19:47Speaker 4: decided because we live in a paddock and there's all
- 19:49Speaker 4: sorts of things that crawl through our house, I was like,
- 19:51Speaker 4: I am going to show my kids that you don't
- 19:52Speaker 4: be scared of spiders. So we get rather large huntsmen
- 19:56Speaker 4: in here and I give them names I'm like, and
- 19:59Speaker 4: mainly their names called stay there, Stay there. Yeah, exactly right.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And then after you guys left one time, Austin's just
- 20:10Speaker 4: got these massive, massive fear of spiders. And when I
- 20:13Speaker 4: drilled down, he was like, oh, because harp is scared
- 20:15Speaker 4: of them, and it made me scared. I know all
- 20:18Speaker 4: you're work undone I know does and that just shows
- 20:22Speaker 4: you when you're raising children, you can do everything you
- 20:24Speaker 4: do and everything right until they get peers and then
- 20:27Speaker 4: pears ruined everything.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 4: One life friends, I'm pretty little girl walks into his
- 20:33Speaker 4: you know, into his life, and he's like, oh, spiders
- 20:37Speaker 4: are things to be scared of.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Well, to be fair, she could have broken his nose,
- 20:40Speaker 1: couldn't she.
- 20:41Speaker 2: So yeah, you got to worry. Do you kill spiders
- 20:45Speaker 2: when you see them in your house? You don't know?
- 20:48Speaker 4: So he has since got over that, and now the
- 20:50Speaker 4: children tell us that we have to put them outside.
- 20:53Speaker 2: So someone's got to get close enough to catch that though.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Yes, and see, Matthew will happily kill them. But when
- 20:57Speaker 4: he kills them, he just like there's spider guts the wall.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I know what spider guts.
- 21:01Speaker 2: You prefer spider guts than.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Like the huntsman don't hurt you. So it's just it's
- 21:07Speaker 4: just easy. Just get a container and then you get
- 21:10Speaker 4: a piece of pacing. You slip under the container.
- 21:13Speaker 1: And they even break out, though, don't they huntsmen? And
- 21:15Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 21:18Speaker 4: But they do a job right. They eat the acts,
- 21:20Speaker 4: eat the things that you need eating. Mesquito Catherine, yep.
- 21:25Speaker 4: So we have geckos in here.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I don't know my little Gikki's except they do crappy everywhere.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I was going to say, there's gecko poo that I've
- 21:32Speaker 4: always I'm continue to go. You shut on this desk.
- 21:36Speaker 2: My sister moved to cans.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It's a gecko, wouldn't you.
- 21:40Speaker 2: You know the difference if it was one of them.
- 21:42Speaker 2: My sister moved to Cans and when we went up there,
- 21:45Speaker 2: there's geckos everywhere because it's so hot and humid. Anyway,
- 21:48Speaker 2: she's like, don't freak out. You can hear them scattering,
- 21:50Speaker 2: you can hear that little noise, but they don't jump,
- 21:53Speaker 2: they don't do anything. Literally, by the time she finished
- 21:56Speaker 2: the sentence, one fell off a fan that was right
- 21:59Speaker 2: above me on my lap, I know. And that's exactly
- 22:02Speaker 2: what she did for about laughing, because like that never happens.
- 22:07Speaker 2: It never happens. And I'm like, right, well, I'll be
- 22:09Speaker 2: at the airport if you need me. I'm going home.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Not so yes, don't trust. Don't trust things not jumping,
- 22:16Speaker 2: don't trust your sister or well, I learned that lesson
- 22:19Speaker 2: way earlier on when I was a kid. You know
- 22:21Speaker 2: what she did, She's like, let's play a game, so
- 22:23Speaker 2: you close your eyes and follow my voice and I'll
- 22:26Speaker 2: direct you around the backyard. I was like, yeah, cool,
- 22:28Speaker 2: this sounds fun. She wants to play with me. Little
- 22:31Speaker 2: did I know there was a dirty fresh dog poo
- 22:36Speaker 2: and this is summer, bare feet and all she wanted
- 22:39Speaker 2: me to do was step in it, and that's exactly
- 22:41Speaker 2: what happened. The squish of fresh warm pooh through your toes.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Nothing quite like it. So I haven't trusted her for
- 22:48Speaker 2: a long.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Long time before this was your sister through a packet
- 22:52Speaker 1: of rubber ties on.
- 22:54Speaker 4: You, rubber bands. So she got the container that the
- 22:57Speaker 4: spider we used to catch spiders in and put them outside,
- 23:01Speaker 4: and she filled it up with rubber backs. She caught
- 23:04Speaker 4: a spider in my room, took it outside and then
- 23:06Speaker 4: filled it up with rubber bands and walked into my
- 23:08Speaker 4: room and threw it at me. Took the container off
- 23:10Speaker 4: and threw it at me, and I actually.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Wet my pants.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Given her. Now we should talk about I don't know
- 23:33Speaker 1: whether you've ever heard of the game of netball, but
- 23:36Speaker 1: we should. We should talk a little bit about it.
- 23:38Speaker 1: So I went over to Cat's place last week and
- 23:40Speaker 1: she's there listening very conscientiously, sitting making notes ahead of
- 23:45Speaker 1: the test and listening to the recordings of the players,
- 23:49Speaker 1: the South African players saying their own names, so their
- 23:52Speaker 1: own preferred pronunciation of it.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Good job. I slept with it on repeat a while too,
- 23:57Speaker 2: because I was like this needs to go in because
- 24:00Speaker 2: some of them and they're pretty good. Like I remember,
- 24:02Speaker 2: I asked Carla Pretorius before one series if she could
- 24:06Speaker 2: say all the names for me, and she's like great,
- 24:08Speaker 2: and she's so she does the recording. She's like, Hi, Cath,
- 24:12Speaker 2: just about to do it for you. I'm going to
- 24:13Speaker 2: do it in my best Australian accent, right, So she
- 24:16Speaker 2: understands that we're going to put our own spin on it.
- 24:19Speaker 2: But some of the girls that did their names, like
- 24:21Speaker 2: el Maray, who's going to play with Thunderbirds. When she
- 24:24Speaker 2: says her name, says vander Bak vander Back, and I'm like, well,
- 24:28Speaker 2: I'm not going to say that, yeah, because no one
- 24:31Speaker 2: will end up Well.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It sounds like you're mocking a little bit there.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I don't know how to do it
- 24:36Speaker 2: properly clearly, and she can see either. So I thought
- 24:38Speaker 2: I'll just we'll do Vanderberg. That's how it's spelt. Hopefully
- 24:41Speaker 2: that's okay. But there's some interesting ones in there.
- 24:44Speaker 1: But it's good. I thought I did exceptionally well with
- 24:48Speaker 1: Now I'm going to read it so I don't get
- 24:49Speaker 1: it wrong.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Nikola Smith, I was literally laughing my head off because
- 24:55Speaker 3: I was with Harper when I was listening to it,
- 24:57Speaker 3: and there's a week two Inglbarney and rafil Way and
- 25:00Speaker 3: Ketsa and then there's Nicholas Smith and I was like, oh,
- 25:03Speaker 3: why isn't there's six Nicholas Smith's in this?
- 25:06Speaker 1: I mean, they would like six Nicholas Smith's too. She
- 25:08Speaker 1: did really well.
- 25:09Speaker 2: She will get picked up. Her and Jamie's and in
- 25:13Speaker 2: defense were unbelievably good, really good. And it's got Nicholas
- 25:19Speaker 2: Smith's down as only one hundred and eighty eight centimeters.
- 25:21Speaker 2: There's no way she was huge.
- 25:23Speaker 1: She certainly seemed she had a presence that was tall
- 25:25Speaker 1: of the mask.
- 25:26Speaker 2: She was towering over most of the defenders. So she'll
- 25:30Speaker 2: get picked up for sure. I reckon this whole series
- 25:32Speaker 2: will be eyes on a lot of these players. And
- 25:35Speaker 2: then Tyler Martin in the middle, the little Oh how
- 25:39Speaker 2: good was she? Speed to burn as well? They were
- 25:42Speaker 2: so great to watch and what a good game. Like
- 25:44Speaker 2: aside from the second quarter that they lost by I
- 25:47Speaker 2: think eight, they only went down by one or two
- 25:51Speaker 2: in the second half. They drew the first quarter, so
- 25:54Speaker 2: they are in this game.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I must say I did not expect to enjoy
- 25:58Speaker 1: that test as much as I did.
- 25:59Speaker 2: It was I reckon a couple of coaching decisions maybe
- 26:04Speaker 2: should have been pulled a little earlier for them. But
- 26:07Speaker 2: first test, you probably want to get everybody out there
- 26:09Speaker 2: and have a good feel for what it's like and
- 26:11Speaker 2: then knuckle down.
- 26:12Speaker 1: How about the thunder and for them would be pumped.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and for them it would be like they've been
- 26:18Speaker 4: on tour for a while. And Catherine you mentioned this
- 26:20Speaker 4: in commentary on Saturday Night that you know it's they're
- 26:24Speaker 4: coming to the end of a long tour and they
- 26:26Speaker 4: got We saw them get progressively better against New Zealand,
- 26:29Speaker 4: but coming to Australia it's a different style of player
- 26:31Speaker 4: to get used to. New Zealand had that zone defense,
- 26:33Speaker 4: whereas Australian one on one you wear a body or
- 26:36Speaker 4: game so that I was actually really impressed by how
- 26:39Speaker 4: well their front line stood up to that. And then
- 26:41Speaker 4: we'll see them get better and better the next two tests.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I love the ball movement, like through that mid court
- 26:46Speaker 4: into the goal attack. And because I'm not commentating anymore,
- 26:50Speaker 4: actually I'm not thinking about players' names.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Well Moseco started and then Ingle Barney went into goal.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Attack Miss Eco.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I was like, oh my god, I'm just with my
- 26:59Speaker 4: short hair. It's yes, yes, And the first time, it's
- 27:02Speaker 4: actually the first time in a little while that you've
- 27:04Speaker 4: sent that real African style of play. But they've got
- 27:07Speaker 4: this beautiful flat ball movement movement going on. It was
- 27:11Speaker 4: I loved watching them.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Can you tell me what you mean?
- 27:13Speaker 4: Website?
- 27:13Speaker 1: So I'll tell the listeners because obviously as a netball coach,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I understand.
- 27:17Speaker 4: But so the Australian style of play is one handed,
- 27:23Speaker 4: super flat passing right, So we've always been really into
- 27:27Speaker 4: the shoulder pass. You can't see me doing it now,
- 27:29Speaker 4: which is good for a podcast when people are listening.
- 27:31Speaker 4: The key We style of play has been often released
- 27:34Speaker 4: with two hands, and actually in KeyWe coach Tommy once
- 27:37Speaker 4: they call the Australian shoulder pass the lazy l because
- 27:40Speaker 4: your arm makes it l l for lazy shoulder pass
- 27:43Speaker 4: is lazy. I was really interested. I'm like, oh, I
- 27:45Speaker 4: think two hands's likening up and winding up the shoulder pass.
- 27:49Speaker 4: So there's a bit more loop in there in sort
- 27:52Speaker 4: of in their passes. And then when you play in
- 27:54Speaker 4: the Caribbean and they've got this style that's really one out,
- 27:58Speaker 4: like Australian style is about having two options and then
- 28:01Speaker 4: reoffering an attack. It tends to be really one out,
- 28:05Speaker 4: but it's really obvious options and so the pass doesn't
- 28:08Speaker 4: have to go as flat. But I thought with the Africans,
- 28:11Speaker 4: they're always have played to me in a really unconventional way.
- 28:16Speaker 4: When we played against used to play against Malawi, it's
- 28:19Speaker 4: like keeping Oh my god, it was so difficult to
- 28:21Speaker 4: defend because it was really unorthodox the way they played.
- 28:26Speaker 4: They just didn't have a pattern. The way they played.
- 28:27Speaker 4: They just did whatever it took to get the ball
- 28:29Speaker 4: down court. But that could be and they're quite happy
- 28:32Speaker 4: with that, right exactly right, So we're always looking for
- 28:34Speaker 4: the direct pass, whereas they are always really patient, and
- 28:38Speaker 4: I think in this South African team you're seeing a
- 28:42Speaker 4: little bit of both. Like I could see that they
- 28:44Speaker 4: took the Australian defenders a little bit to figure out
- 28:46Speaker 4: the patterns because they played this really patient game. But
- 28:49Speaker 4: then all of a sudden they just go bullbooming Abo
- 28:51Speaker 4: out of the post like it was and that direct passing.
- 28:54Speaker 4: So they've got this two handed release, but it's really
- 28:57Speaker 4: super strong and it just seems to work.
- 28:59Speaker 2: It was interesting pregame because they were talking about their
- 29:01Speaker 2: strengths and how they'd play the game, and they're saying
- 29:03Speaker 2: their speed is their strength, and I'm thinking, okay, you're
- 29:06Speaker 2: going to come up again speed in a minute. Let's
- 29:08Speaker 2: see how that works for you. But it was amazing.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought their timing was impeccable. Just some of
- 29:14Speaker 4: the work they did into the circle and it wasn't
- 29:16Speaker 4: just always a lobbing to a tall shooter right that
- 29:19Speaker 4: she moved beautifully. But let me tell you what else
- 29:21Speaker 4: I liked. I really liked the diamonds and I loved
- 29:23Speaker 4: seeing Alice tig Neil get out.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, she sort of.
- 29:27Speaker 4: I thought she did it. She just gives something really different,
- 29:30Speaker 4: like what a choice like Stacy Marinkovic's spoored for choice
- 29:33Speaker 4: in that mid court, and to see it like a
- 29:36Speaker 4: debutante like Alice Teagnild who has waited a long time
- 29:39Speaker 4: for it. The look on her face was just beautiful
- 29:41Speaker 4: when she was on the slideline coming on, and then
- 29:43Speaker 4: I thought she locked in and did a great job.
- 29:45Speaker 2: But she killed it. I've not actually seen her play
- 29:48Speaker 2: so fast in a while because I feel like with
- 29:51Speaker 2: the fever. She's kind of filling spaces and then turning
- 29:54Speaker 2: and looking for the feed. But she was bang bang
- 29:56Speaker 2: double plays and flying around the circle and the feeds.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And then what about when she was on with Georgie Horgis,
- 30:02Speaker 2: how good was that? We all went mute at one
- 30:04Speaker 2: point because we're just like watching it, watching the whole thing,
- 30:07Speaker 2: just like, this is unreal, this is you don't see that.
- 30:10Speaker 2: When do you ever see that sort of style of
- 30:13Speaker 2: play for the Diamonds, Two of the shorter players, two
- 30:15Speaker 2: of the real playmakers in the attack line together. Yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 2: it doesn't happen.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you were talking about that. I think what
- 30:21Speaker 1: great netbull minds.
- 30:23Speaker 2: They have so good, so good. But Stacy Marinkovitch has
- 30:26Speaker 2: made her intent pretty clear, right like she obviously she
- 30:29Speaker 2: played all twelve, she got the debutante onto the court,
- 30:33Speaker 2: so she probably will change it up for the next
- 30:36Speaker 2: game and might see another debutante or two out there.
- 30:39Speaker 2: We'll see how it goes. But obviously she wants to
- 30:41Speaker 2: give everybody opportunities to say, yep, pick me, pick me.
- 30:45Speaker 1: So who from the fifteen didn't didn't play? So Hannah Munday,
- 30:49Speaker 1: Lucy Austin, and is it ash Irvan.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and then Parmenter and t Why I come in
- 30:55Speaker 2: for a Constellation Cup, don't they?
- 30:57Speaker 1: But spoil for choice? So what about the defense too?
- 31:00Speaker 1: That it's like Tilly Garrett played out of her buddy skin.
- 31:03Speaker 1: She was twenty minutes stational and picked up four balls.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, twenty Actually that's I reckon. That's the best
- 31:10Speaker 4: I've seen Tilly Garrett plays. And I think she gets
- 31:12Speaker 4: a bit overlooked in that Thunderbird's line because she's like
- 31:15Speaker 4: she does the hard yards and then she's a good
- 31:18Speaker 4: girl defen She does the hard yards and the goalkeeper
- 31:20Speaker 4: gets all the glory. But like I thought, she really
- 31:23Speaker 4: shone and you don't often see her shot she's normally
- 31:25Speaker 4: and her and Joe Western a bit the same. They
- 31:27Speaker 4: just get out there and they grind and they wear
- 31:29Speaker 4: the goal attack down. That just freeze up the rest
- 31:31Speaker 4: of the defensive line. But I thought they were both
- 31:33Speaker 4: really good and I thought Tilly had a great game.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Can I say again, I don't think we should be
- 31:39Speaker 1: putting Joe Weston in wing defense, like just piss off.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Just stay at the really tall girls, stay at either
- 31:45Speaker 1: end of the court. Leave something for the rest of us.
- 31:48Speaker 1: But did you say Tilly Garrett and Elmeray Vanderberg met
- 31:52Speaker 1: for the first time.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Yes, it's amazing. It's crazy, isn't it? What her calls?
- 31:56Speaker 1: And then she was well, she was gold it's not
- 32:00Speaker 1: part keeper, but yeah, how funny.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Hi, Yeah, excited to see you. I'm going to kill
- 32:04Speaker 2: you for now, but then we'll be mates again at
- 32:06Speaker 2: the end of the game.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So something I was a little bit concerned about is
- 32:11Speaker 1: no Swift in the starting seven. Oh yeah, no Swift
- 32:14Speaker 1: in the starting seven, and only one Swift in the
- 32:18Speaker 1: in the twelve.
- 32:19Speaker 2: That's actually crazy, it is, isn't it.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Wow?
- 32:22Speaker 4: But a number of vixens hang on, who's surprised about that? Nobody?
- 32:25Speaker 2: Nobody?
- 32:26Speaker 1: Yes, So four vixens in the starting seven.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I think I actually made the mistake of talking about
- 32:31Speaker 2: Liz Watson is a vixen at one point during the game,
- 32:34Speaker 2: because you know, great, we.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Can see the Queenslanders all around, the nrlw ban one
- 32:40Speaker 1: by the Broncos, the NRL being one by the Broncos,
- 32:43Speaker 1: the Sunshine Case Lightning Man. Those two look really good,
- 32:47Speaker 1: didn't they. Liz Watson and Courtney Bruce. Gordon Bruce was
- 32:49Speaker 1: great it was so good to see it did a
- 32:51Speaker 1: great job, and that ball was Sarah Klouse by the
- 32:53Speaker 1: way umpires.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Every day.
- 32:58Speaker 4: No, you just see me.
- 33:00Speaker 2: No, it was line call.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Swap up the players. If a defender came from behind
- 33:06Speaker 4: and did that, you'd be like, no, you know now, when.
- 33:08Speaker 2: We replayed it, I was adamant that it was Sarah Klaus.
- 33:11Speaker 2: When we replayed it, it looks like Vanderberg's hands are
- 33:14Speaker 2: on a smidge earlier. But because Sarah is in front
- 33:17Speaker 2: so strong, You're like, nah, I just let her have it.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Come on, she's putting the work. Give her the ball.
- 33:22Speaker 4: You know what, Vanderberg's hanks could have been on at
- 33:24Speaker 4: fifteen minutes beforehand. That I'd still argue that it was true.
- 33:27Speaker 2: As you should until you die. That's your role.
- 33:30Speaker 4: I am not unbiased, and that I worry.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I do worry. It's still about traction alopecia.
- 33:36Speaker 2: So and do you know what's funny, because I've been
- 33:38Speaker 2: watching a few of them on TikTok and they do
- 33:40Speaker 2: their hair before the game. There is a lot of
- 33:44Speaker 2: work that goes into those hairdoos and the pulling and
- 33:46Speaker 2: the gels and everything. So I agree with you.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Hair style is probably better for the long term health
- 33:54Speaker 1: of her hair follicicles. Is it loose? Yeah, she's got
- 33:57Speaker 1: a low, low loocid pony.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Do you think that's what she's thinking about. She's thinking
- 34:02Speaker 2: forward to twenty years time.
- 34:03Speaker 1: I imagine that most international netball players listen to the
- 34:07Speaker 1: No Dribble podcast to consider healthy aging into their future.
- 34:11Speaker 2: I think they should too, makes sense. So yes, we're
- 34:18Speaker 2: off to Will and Go on Wednesday night. Whilst we
- 34:20Speaker 2: talk about South Africa getting better, got to say the
- 34:22Speaker 2: Diamonds will get better, that's for sure. Match yeah in
- 34:25Speaker 2: a year. So what would you predict then, ladies, well,
- 34:28Speaker 2: game too, what do you reckon?
- 34:30Speaker 1: Well, I'm not allowed to predict based on form, but
- 34:34Speaker 1: if I did, I would say I think the Diamonds
- 34:35Speaker 1: are going to win. But I think it's going to
- 34:37Speaker 1: be a really great Test series and I had not,
- 34:41Speaker 1: honestly had not expected it to be, so shame on me. Yep,
- 34:45Speaker 1: Diamonds to.
- 34:46Speaker 4: They're going to be a Diamonds win. But I think
- 34:48Speaker 4: we'll see some different lineups from the Diamonds, so I'm
- 34:52Speaker 4: looking forward to seeing that me too.
- 34:53Speaker 2: And then of course the Constellation Cup. Now on that
- 34:56Speaker 2: I spoke to Julie Fitzgerald the other day. This is
- 34:58Speaker 2: the coolest thing she's doing. So she's joined forces with
- 35:01Speaker 2: net Fit and then for the third test in the
- 35:05Speaker 2: Constellation Cut, which will be the first game in New
- 35:07Speaker 2: Zealand in Hamilton, Julie's going over and it's a full
- 35:11Speaker 2: five star experience accommodation sessions with Julie. You get to
- 35:15Speaker 2: sit with her at the game. They do a big
- 35:18Speaker 2: debris after the game around like the whole thing sounds amazing.
- 35:22Speaker 2: If anyone wants to go jump on the net fit
- 35:24Speaker 2: website or socials and get some details, it looks incredible.
- 35:28Speaker 1: That would be so fun.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Can you imagine sitting with Julie, hang out with jewels,
- 35:33Speaker 2: I know, right, just full stop and then going to
- 35:35Speaker 2: the game and getting all the expert advice and coaching
- 35:38Speaker 2: and all the rest of it.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So jump On keeps them inside Goss by going over
- 35:42Speaker 1: to New Zealand. Whether you might pick up some vibes
- 35:45Speaker 1: about it the worsening situation.
- 35:49Speaker 2: In New Zealand.
- 35:50Speaker 1: But anyway, we're thinking of them all right, need do
- 35:52Speaker 1: we hang on?
- 35:53Speaker 2: What?
- 35:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we're now doing this halfway through a session.
- 35:58Speaker 4: Oh my god, Carolyn she'll try traveling with her, but
- 36:01Speaker 4: imagine what she was like as a child, Like, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 4: oh my god, reage a road trip. Oh, I know
- 36:06Speaker 4: what a road trip's like with Catherine. Lots of wheat stops.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Does she bring good catering though?
- 36:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:11Speaker 4: The other thing, she's not bad.
- 36:12Speaker 1: When we were recording it the other place in willemelooth,
- 36:15Speaker 1: like we'd get there each week, she'd have a little
- 36:17Speaker 1: snack for me.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Now, maybe she's a she's a bit of a feeder though,
- 36:20Speaker 4: because like she makes all this greatefood or brings grape
- 36:23Speaker 4: food and gives it to you to eat, but doesn't
- 36:24Speaker 4: eat it herself or doesn't it as much.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Do you bake?
- 36:27Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes I'm not a great baker. Evelyn's a great baker.
- 36:31Speaker 4: She makes like great. I like every time I try
- 36:33Speaker 4: and make brown is, I muck them up. I bake
- 36:36Speaker 4: choc chip muffins for my kids for school, and that's
- 36:39Speaker 4: about it. What about you?
- 36:40Speaker 1: So the things I make taste okay, But I can't
- 36:44Speaker 1: bake to make things look attractive, so you know, and
- 36:48Speaker 1: that's I think I really admire people who can do that,
- 36:51Speaker 1: who can who can create something and then it comes
- 36:53Speaker 1: out looking like a picture in the book. I tend
- 36:57Speaker 1: minute to bake because then I eat what I've baked.
- 36:59Speaker 2: So have you seen that show Is It Cake?
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yeah? I love Is It Cake?
- 37:02Speaker 2: How good? Those people are freaks? Like they actually look
- 37:06Speaker 2: like ducks.
- 37:08Speaker 1: I used to do a whole sort of I used
- 37:10Speaker 1: to have like a ten minute bit about is it Cake?
- 37:12Speaker 1: Because what bothers me is they get these celebrities on
- 37:15Speaker 1: to judge whether it's cake or not, and they seem
- 37:18Speaker 1: incredibly surprised when something is cake, and it's like, well,
- 37:22Speaker 1: what's the show tell you that it's going to be?
- 37:24Speaker 1: It's credit it's going to be cake or not cake?
- 37:27Speaker 1: Isn't it?
- 37:27Speaker 2: Like? It's not a.
- 37:29Speaker 1: It's a fairly straight could qua to rip off?
- 37:32Speaker 4: The great edit is it could be cake or death?
- 37:34Speaker 4: What would you like today?
- 37:35Speaker 2: Have you heard? Have you?
- 37:36Speaker 4: What's one of my favorite bits of comedy? Oh my god,
- 37:38Speaker 4: you're gonna go and find it. It's a whole thing
- 37:42Speaker 4: about cake. What was you like today? From the Is
- 37:45Speaker 4: It the Star Wars Canteen? What would you like today?
- 37:48Speaker 4: Cake or death? I'll take cake? Thanks, Sorry, we're out
- 37:52Speaker 4: a cake. You can have death, Like it's so ridiculous,
- 37:54Speaker 4: But it's the funniest thing.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I had to drop this bit from my
- 37:59Speaker 1: set because and then Auntie Donna did one little clip
- 38:01Speaker 1: about is It Cake? And it's like, all right, well
- 38:03Speaker 1: that's taken my whole bit now, really hasn't it. It'll
- 38:06Speaker 1: just look like I'm copying Auntie Donnah, So I need
- 38:08Speaker 1: to stop doing that bit now.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Or you just need to go first in the lineup,
- 38:12Speaker 2: and then she looks like she's copying you.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Well, Auntie Donna is three men who do this absurdist
- 38:18Speaker 1: TV type stuff that one of them was in that
- 38:21Speaker 1: ABC show that I did Westerners, and it's very funny,
- 38:25Speaker 1: but it's absurd. My son absolutely loves it. So I
- 38:29Speaker 1: don't tend to go and stand up lineups with them
- 38:31Speaker 1: because they're much more They do amazing live shows which
- 38:36Speaker 1: are hilarious, but a lot of the stuff they do
- 38:38Speaker 1: is straight to video or TV or internet, and so
- 38:43Speaker 1: their reach is a hell of a lot bigger than mine.
- 38:45Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm probably ruining it for everybody.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Then they're very supportive of other artists.
- 38:50Speaker 2: They're still all the material.
- 38:52Speaker 1: And honestly, my is It Cake bit was funny, but
- 38:54Speaker 1: it wasn't the world's not going to end without me
- 38:57Speaker 1: doing my is it cake bit? But thanks for thank
- 39:00Speaker 1: you for bringing out that very painful memory.
- 39:03Speaker 2: You'll now do I need to check on the children.
- 39:08Speaker 2: So Harper's come over to play with Dot Liz and
- 39:10Speaker 2: they're outside doing VA headset stuff. So I just I
- 39:14Speaker 2: just said to Dot just as a heads up. My
- 39:17Speaker 2: child is very unco so if she's throwing something in
- 39:20Speaker 2: the VR, she could well punch a wall. Just just say,
- 39:24Speaker 2: you know, maybe you need to supervise each other. Or
- 39:27Speaker 2: they both got headsets on. No, no, no, not at
- 39:29Speaker 2: the same time of them is going to get on
- 39:32Speaker 2: the pool for sure.
- 39:34Speaker 1: That's gratefull.
- 39:34Speaker 4: I mean, I was sitting in the television room last
- 39:36Speaker 4: night and realized that the television room is where my
- 39:38Speaker 4: son watches a lot of cricket and then often gets
- 39:41Speaker 4: a ball out and hits a ball and there's three
- 39:44Speaker 4: or four cricket ball sized holes in the wall.
- 39:47Speaker 2: And I'm like, did he get a talking to or
- 39:50Speaker 2: you encourage his behavior?
- 39:53Speaker 4: No, you got to talk, but he doesn't care. He's nine.
- 39:55Speaker 4: He's like, but I didn't, I didn't. I'm mate, You're
- 39:58Speaker 4: the only person who plays it doesn't use a Cricketpaul inside,
- 40:00Speaker 4: but it's a rubber ball, but he's hit it hard
- 40:02Speaker 4: enough to go.
- 40:03Speaker 2: You should be me.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Hopefully he'll play for Australia and I can tell people
- 40:09Speaker 4: about this. It can be just a funny story when
- 40:12Speaker 4: Austin stocks was nigh and he used to put holes
- 40:14Speaker 4: in the wall. Yeah, your contract and he's built me
- 40:17Speaker 4: a whole new house.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Either that or just you know, won't play anything at
- 40:22Speaker 4: an elite level when I'll just have holes in my.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Waves for the rest of my life.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Well there's that too. Let's pray for the first anyway.
- 40:28Speaker 4: That's cheery.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's over in a blink of an eye. Elizabeth.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Tuesday afternoon and seems so long.
- 40:38Speaker 1: But this it won't seem like a blink of a
- 40:40Speaker 1: night because it is school holiday, so we should probably
- 40:43Speaker 1: gird our loins and get out there and entertain our children.
- 40:47Speaker 1: So I got another test on Wednesday night. Cath you're
- 40:51Speaker 1: heading to the gong for that. You're in the gong,
- 40:53Speaker 1: you'll be common.
- 40:54Speaker 4: So Catherine Glon and I both gave our predictions, but
- 40:58Speaker 4: I want you to give your prediction and I want
- 41:00Speaker 4: I wanted to be the prediction of a commentator who's
- 41:01Speaker 4: done their research as opposed to us too, who would
- 41:03Speaker 4: just watched the television.
- 41:04Speaker 2: And yeah, I feel like Australia is warming up. I'd
- 41:08Speaker 2: like to think this was going to be a close series,
- 41:11Speaker 2: but I feel like they're going to put the food down.
- 41:13Speaker 2: It's just it's hard to turn around that quickly, isn't it.
- 41:17Speaker 2: But I suppose it's good practice for a comm games
- 41:19Speaker 2: in a World Cup where you have literally no time
- 41:22Speaker 2: to adjust. You got to do it on the fly
- 41:23Speaker 2: because you're playing every day. But they've only got three
- 41:25Speaker 2: or four days in between tests, so how much time
- 41:27Speaker 2: can you actually work on what you've got to work on? However,
- 41:30Speaker 2: South Africa didn't do much wrong. It was center pass conversions.
- 41:34Speaker 2: If they can get some structures around that. They were
- 41:36Speaker 2: pretty good on turnovers, only twenty one for the game,
- 41:40Speaker 2: and they got lots of ball back but they're just
- 41:42Speaker 2: they're throwing it away. So I think there's some easy
- 41:45Speaker 2: fixes for them and if they can do that, then yeah,
- 41:48Speaker 2: you just never know.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Can I ask a question of you as a shooter
- 41:51Speaker 1: up so three times in a row, Cara cone and
- 41:54Speaker 1: put it up and it hits the lip and comes
- 41:56Speaker 1: back down. It's just not getting the height. And I
- 41:58Speaker 1: see that quite often in super grace work. He does
- 42:03Speaker 1: it quite a bit, and it's sort of why, hell,
- 42:07Speaker 1: that's a nerves nerve.
- 42:09Speaker 2: You don't often overshoot when you're nervous. You more often
- 42:11Speaker 2: don't give it enough gas. So I reckon that and
- 42:14Speaker 2: fair enough too, because as I said in commentary, this
- 42:17Speaker 2: don't forget this is this is a game within a game,
- 42:19Speaker 2: because she's seen and she's got an uphill battle, because
- 42:23Speaker 2: I mean, she'll get selected I think for the long term.
- 42:25Speaker 2: But Sophie Garvin and Kira Austin play together every week,
- 42:29Speaker 2: so that is a well old machine. And they were
- 42:31Speaker 2: great to start the game, and then car has got
- 42:33Speaker 2: to come on and she's got to match that. Every
- 42:36Speaker 2: quarter they'll look at them, the shooters will look at
- 42:38Speaker 2: numbers and volume scored and they'll recognize if they were
- 42:42Speaker 2: on when there was the most you know, how powerful
- 42:44Speaker 2: the attack line was, all that sort of stuff, and
- 42:47Speaker 2: the coach will be doing that as well. And I
- 42:49Speaker 2: know that's a full court thing. Defense have to be
- 42:51Speaker 2: winning ball back to give shooters more opportunity, all that
- 42:54Speaker 2: sort of stuff. But they've got to be converting and
- 42:57Speaker 2: she will be nervous. She'll know that looking at the
- 43:00Speaker 2: Georgie Horges is in the goal attack role, there's also
- 43:03Speaker 2: a Sophie Dwyer to come into the mix. She needs
- 43:05Speaker 2: to perform. And so I reckon that was just nerves
- 43:08Speaker 2: to start because we've we've seen her.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and she did steady. So it was it was
- 43:12Speaker 1: three in a row and then not again I think
- 43:14Speaker 1: from from from memory. But it's just it's so yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 1: so so interesting that you know the mental control required
- 43:22Speaker 1: to go. I gotta I got to pull this in here.
- 43:25Speaker 2: I got it.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's so obvious in Tudor if you if
- 43:29Speaker 1: you're not doing your job, is that it's like a.
- 43:33Speaker 2: But you're also getting the floor of it too, don't you. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:36Speaker 2: well there's the question for you.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Would Caa be thinking about her stats while she's shooting?
- 43:41Speaker 4: You know, I'm not absolutely know every stat like I
- 43:45Speaker 4: think about Susan Prattley. She knew she could walk off
- 43:47Speaker 4: and give you her stats every quarter. You, on the
- 43:50Speaker 4: other hand, I had no idea, no as it came.
- 43:55Speaker 1: So you're you're not thinking about that until you come
- 43:58Speaker 1: off court. You're thinking what's done is done. Next is
- 44:02Speaker 1: the only thing that matters is that you know, how
- 44:04Speaker 1: do you what's what was the self talk for you?
- 44:06Speaker 3: There?
- 44:06Speaker 2: Oh, there's no I mean, I think that's the beauty
- 44:08Speaker 2: of our game is there's no time for self talk
- 44:10Speaker 2: because there's always something happening and getting onto the next bit.
- 44:13Speaker 2: I couldn't give a rat to ask what my stats
- 44:14Speaker 2: were at the end of a game if we had won,
- 44:17Speaker 2: if we'd lost and not shot badly, then you'd feel
- 44:20Speaker 2: the weight of that. But there definitely were players that
- 44:23Speaker 2: were certainly in their heads about at the time, I've
- 44:26Speaker 2: missed a couple here or whatever else you can you know, right?
- 44:31Speaker 2: And I don't think Carr is that kind of player.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I've not heard that sort of thing from her before,
- 44:35Speaker 2: but she will definitely have come off the court and thought,
- 44:38Speaker 2: or maybe my percentage wasn't that great, that's not great
- 44:41Speaker 2: because Sophie Garbin was up at ninety percent, or you
- 44:43Speaker 2: know whatever. You start to compare yourself to the others,
- 44:47Speaker 2: just knowing where they're at as a team and the
- 44:50Speaker 2: campaigns they've got, because the opportunities are so few and
- 44:54Speaker 2: far between for the Diamonds now, it's you don't have
- 44:56Speaker 2: much of an opportunity to prove yourself, which is a
- 44:59Speaker 2: question I Alice teg Neil when we interviewed her at
- 45:02Speaker 2: the end of the game, do you feel do you
- 45:03Speaker 2: feel the pressure of making this moment count because you
- 45:07Speaker 2: know there's not many of them? And she said, yeah,
- 45:10Speaker 2: you do. But we also fully supportive of each other,
- 45:13Speaker 2: which is great, perfect answer, isn't it.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Yeah, they had a great team culture.
- 45:17Speaker 1: It looked lovely.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they're all so excited for each other. I do
- 45:20Speaker 2: love that.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Very exciting. International netball is back. Okay, well, good luck
- 45:26Speaker 1: out there. It's school holidays. I want to know, we
- 45:30Speaker 1: all want to know how your YouTube challenge goes.
- 45:36Speaker 2: She call that something else?
- 45:37Speaker 1: Yeah, what about?
- 45:38Speaker 4: What are they those? Is it here?
- 45:40Speaker 1: No evil see no evil speak no evil?
- 45:42Speaker 2: And that may be a good one. Let's see that.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Or maybe because it's a green Monkey's challenge.
- 45:46Speaker 1: No, yes, see no evil speak no evil.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Oh?
- 45:50Speaker 4: I like that?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. Patrim would never have had a wevil
- 45:53Speaker 1: in her pen.
