- 0:00Jenn: Hey, everyone.
- 0:00Jenn: And welcome back to travel tip Tuesday with the travel mug podcast.
- 0:05Jenn: I am Jenn and joined as always by my partner and podcasting Meggan.
- 0:11Jenn: How is it going today, Meggan?
- 0:14Meggan: Ah, she's going.
- 0:15Meggan: You know, it's winter in Canada, it's snowing, um, but we're getting through and that's really what matters and that's all you can ask for, you know?
- 0:22Jenn: Yeah.
- 0:23Jenn: So I am currently planning my trip to Whitehorse, yukon, which is in May, so still a couple of months away, but of course a big part of the planning is looking for things to do.
- 0:38Jenn: Now I am visiting and staying with friends, which is amazing because they have a lot of suggestions, but as you can probably imagine, there's not like a massively long list of things to do in
- 0:51Meggan: right, right.
- 0:52Meggan: right.
- 0:52Jenn: Yes, but one of the things I've been leaning into more when I'm traveling is Classes and walking tours.
- 1:01Jenn: Sadly, there are no ghost tours in Whitehorse.
- 1:04Jenn: I was very sad.
- 1:05Jenn: You
- 1:05Meggan: You'll have to maybe do research and like have your own as a special like guest host of some sort.
- 1:11Jenn: I was really very sad.
- 1:15Jenn: But, I did find a glassblowing workshop.
- 1:21Jenn: Which, like, I'm really excited about it.
- 1:23Jenn: I think it sounds really fun.
- 1:24Jenn: You go and they teach you, you actually make something and then, uh, the next day you pick it up and you can bring it home.
- 1:32Meggan: Please don't burn yourself, that's my tip.
- 1:34Jenn: Uh, that's a good tip.
- 1:36Jenn: Yeah, I will try.
- 1:37Jenn: So.
- 1:38Jenn: The travel tip today is to look for classes when you travel.
- 1:43Jenn: Google is your friend here, but you can also use Airbnb experiences.
- 1:48Jenn: It's something that I honestly hope to do more of in my everyday life as well.
- 1:52Jenn: There's actually a fresh pasta making class available here in Nova Scotia that I really want to try.
- 1:58Jenn: And last fall, I went to a soap making workshop, like The possibilities, I mean, they're not endless, but they're pretty endless.
- 2:06Jenn: So you could look for cooking classes, like surfing or other sport type lessons, skiing, dance classes, language lessons, art classes, honestly, like, so many options.
- 2:19Jenn: Like, for example, Meggan, there's a blacksmithing class you can take in Halifax.
- 2:23Jenn: I saw it on Airbnb Experiences.
- 2:25Jenn: Who knew?
- 2:26Jenn: I
- 2:26Meggan: How late 1800s of us?
- 2:29Jenn: know.
- 2:29Jenn: I mean that sounds super cool.
- 2:31Jenn: So Meggan, what are your thoughts?
- 2:32Jenn: Have you ever booked a class while you're traveling?
- 2:35Jenn: Mm
- 2:36Meggan: I haven't, but I love this idea.
- 2:39Meggan: It's an Airbnb like function or section I've never used.
- 2:43Meggan: Um, and I think though, I definitely want to, I would love to do a cooking class in Italy.
- 2:50Jenn: hmm.
- 2:50Jenn: Mm hmm.
- 2:51Meggan: It's my birthday trip so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to convince Peter to do one.
- 2:54Meggan: He's not really, into chefing it up, but I think, I mean, I only turned 50 once.
- 3:00Meggan: And it's interesting that you mentioned this as well, because while not a class, You can also do tours as well.
- 3:06Meggan: So my friend sent me a Rome tipsy tour that they actually were able to book through Airbnb.
- 3:12Meggan: She said they were the oldest ones there, so can't wait for that.
- 3:15Meggan: Love being the oldest.
- 3:16Meggan: Um, but I think it's a great idea.
- 3:19Meggan: And I have to say it's going to be something that I'm going to explore more because we always talk about diving into the culture.
- 3:27Meggan: Understanding what happens locally, supporting local, and I think these are really great ways to do it.
- 3:33Meggan: Plus, you're never too old to learn anything.
- 3:35Meggan: And I think that that's a really great way to do it.
- 3:38Meggan: And, you know, find a different kind of joy when traveling in terms of, You know, learning something new.
- 3:44Meggan: So, yes, it is an endeavor of mine to definitely, start incorporating this somehow to have different experiences from what maybe we typically do.
- 3:53Jenn: Yeah.
- 3:53Jenn: I love that.
- 3:54Jenn: Um, I, I, funny you mentioned tours, cause we've been like semi researching, uh, Ireland.
- 4:01Jenn: And I can't remember what town this was in, but it was like a donut crawl tour where you, and I was like, I'm in, like take my money.
- 4:09Meggan: Oh, my goodness.
- 4:10Meggan: Well, another tour you definitely have to do is the Black Cab Tour if you go to Belfast.
- 4:14Meggan: There's, I can only imagine the plethora of tours and options available all throughout Ireland.
- 4:20Meggan: So, it's a great place to start incorporating that for sure.
- 4:23Jenn: Yeah.
- 4:23Jenn: And I think that, you know, like I said, when I did my Atlanta trip report, like that, um, walking tour and food tour that I did was the highlight of my trip.
- 4:33Jenn: So I definitely need to be, uh, incorporating more experiences.
- 4:37Jenn: Like that.
- 4:39Jenn: So that is it for this week's Travel Tip Tuesday.
