- 1:10hair like wool, your eyes of fire and the two edged sword
- 1:14from your mouth. We see that you are the Son of
- 1:19God. You are the long-awaited
- 1:23Messiah, the Christ Jesus of Nazareth, the branch.
- 1:27We thank you, Father, for giving us the down payment of the Holy
- 1:32Spirit. We thank you, Father, that you
- 1:34have given us our next breath. Thank you Yahweh, thank you,
- 1:40Yahweh, for all of the many blessings that you have bestowed
- 1:44upon us today. Thank you that your mercies are
- 1:47new every day. Thank you for the Holy
- 1:49Scriptures that are alive and active that we hold in our
- 1:53hands. Thank you, God, that you've
- 1:55given us your voice on pages to read and to hold and to memorize
- 1:59and to hide. God, Holy Spirit, come in and
- 2:03teach us. Holy Spirit, fill us today.
- 2:07Holy Spirit, fill us overflowing.
- 2:10Holy Spirit, teach us and guide us.
- 2:13I decrease as you increase. Holy Spirit, you are the
- 2:17greatest teacher. And so as we read and hear your
- 2:22words today, let them reverberate off the rafters.
- 2:28Let them go deep into the DNA. Father, I pray that they become
- 2:32one with us. God, I pray that they are part
- 2:36of our mindset, of our thoughts and emotions.
- 2:40God, we push down all the cares of this world.
- 2:44God, we stiff arm all the cares and the worries of this world.
- 2:49God, we believe and we trust and we increase our faith today.
- 2:54God heal us from on high. Lord, I pray that we can touch
- 2:58the hem of your garment. God, I pray healing over our
- 3:02bodies. I pray healing over our minds.
- 3:06I pray healing over our emotions.
- 3:09I pray healing over our families.
- 3:12I pray healing over our neighborhoods.
- 3:16I pray healing God over marriages, I pray healing over
- 3:21relationships. Parents and children, I pray
- 3:24healing. Father, in the name of Jesus
- 3:29from on high, pray healing. God, I pray for a divine
- 3:33appointment today. God, I pray that you'll give us
- 3:36the strength today to share our testimony with someone.
- 3:42God, I pray that you will help us and fuel us for the journey.
- 3:47God, give us our marching orders.
- 3:48We are acknowledging you today. So God, we are asking that
- 3:52you'll direct our steps. Lord, let us not miss out on
- 3:56what you have for us today. Let us not miss out on the great
- 3:59adventure that you've called us to.
- 4:01God, let us not be sidelined with cares and worries and
- 4:05doubts. Father, I pray in the name of
- 4:08Jesus, God, we can lay all of that down and that we can count
- 4:13the cost, Father, and come running hard after you.
- 4:17Let us sell everything to buy the field, God, for we know that
- 4:22you, Jesus, are the buried treasure.
- 4:25And so, Lord, we sell everything for you, Father Jesus Christ,
- 4:30Holy Spirit, we love you. We worship you in spirit and
- 4:38truth today. Thank you for all the many
- 4:40blessings. God, thank you for our very next
- 4:43breath. Thank you for one more day to
- 4:46serve you and to get to know you more.
- 4:49Teach us your ways. Holy Spirit in Jesus Christ,
- 4:54holy, worthy and precious name, I pray, Amen.
- 5:01Let's start in verse one. Take heed that you do not your
- 5:10alms before men to be seen of them, otherwise you have no
- 5:16reward of your Father, which is in heaven.
- 5:20What's he talking about? He's talking about giving our
- 5:28alms, giving our tithes, giving our offerings.
- 5:33He's talking about giving of ourselves so that we make a show
- 5:38out of it. He's talking about whenever we
- 5:42do something for the Lord and then we go around telling
- 5:46everybody that we did it, He says you will have no reward,
- 5:50that you've already received your reward, which is the
- 5:53praises of men. Whenever we go around telling
- 5:57everybody how righteous we are and people applaud us, God says
- 6:02that's all the reward that you will ever get, friend.
- 6:07Verse 2. Therefore, when you do your
- 6:10alms, do not sound the trumpet before yourself as the
- 6:14hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they
- 6:19may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, they have
- 6:23their reward. These are the self-righteous,
- 6:28these are the hypocrites. These are the ones who love to
- 6:33be seen giving their tithes and their offerings and their time,
- 6:40and they might volunteer, but they sure will let you know of
- 6:46all the good things that they're doing.
- 6:48And God says that is your reward when people are applauding you
- 6:55for the things that you're giving and doing and all the
- 6:58sacrifices you're making, when you go around telling everybody
- 7:02there is no reward in that. And I just want to make a quick
- 7:06statement here. Rewards are built in to the
- 7:11Christian walk, friends. You cannot get out of Matthew
- 7:165-6 here. You cannot get out of this
- 7:19Beatitudes without seeing how many times Jesus Christ himself
- 7:24has a reference rewards and there are a lot of people who
- 7:29would say well wait a second, we are not saved by works so that
- 7:34anyone should boast and to that the Bible is explicitly clear.
- 7:41However, rewards are built in to the walk and we should not
- 7:47strive after the rewards. All of the things that Jesus is
- 7:51pointing out is the hypocrisy of the religious folk.
- 7:56But those of us who are pure in heart who will see God.
- 8:02This is the natural overflow of a life sold out to King Jesus. 3
- 8:10But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your
- 8:15right hand does. I believe that this is whenever
- 8:20we are secret in our giving of our time and energy and effort
- 8:26and money. Whenever you pick somebody up on
- 8:29the side of the road to give them a ride and then you don't
- 8:34tell anyone about it. Whenever you give someone money
- 8:38or buy someone's groceries and you don't tell anyone about it.
- 8:43This is not letting your left hand know what your right hand
- 8:49is doing. We've got a lot of right hand
- 8:55men, right hand women. We have a lot of people that we
- 8:58trust, specifically our spouses. And no, we should not hide
- 9:05anything from them, but we sure do not have to ask their
- 9:10permission to do the Lord's work.
- 9:13And I believe that is what He is referencing here.
- 9:16Friends, we need to be obedient unto the Father first.
- 9:21We should not let anyone hold us back from doing God's work,
- 9:27especially when He is speaking boldly and loudly to you and
- 9:33whenever you are going down the road and He says stop, help
- 9:37those people. And we need to have discernment.
- 9:40We need to know what the voice of the Lord sounds like that
- 9:43tugging. We need to know so that we do
- 9:45not fall into a trap. We do not fall into hard times.
- 9:53We need to know that we know that we know that we know that
- 9:56God is speaking to us. And that comes from a lifetime
- 10:00of being sold out to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
- 10:05For that your alms may be in secret, and that your father,
- 10:11which sees in secret himself, shall reward you openly.
- 10:16This is what it looks like whenever.
- 10:19We don't care about the rewards. We don't care if anyone sees.
- 10:24We don't go around telling everybody about what we're doing
- 10:28for God. We let God and God alone be the
- 10:31judge. We let God alone look and see.
- 10:36We do it all for God. We do it all for Jesus.
- 10:39We do it all for the Holy Spirit.
- 10:40We do it because of the abundance of love that He
- 10:43lavishes upon us. The natural overflow is that we
- 10:46will love our neighbors. And when we do that, friends,
- 10:51God sees and he will openly reward you. 5 And when you pray,
- 11:01you do not be as the hypocrites, for they love to pray, standing
- 11:05in the synagogues, in the corners of the streets, that
- 11:09they may be seen of men. Truly I say unto you, they have
- 11:14their reward. This is the babbling brook.
- 11:19This is the one who just loves to hear themselves talk.
- 11:23This is the one who wants to be seen.
- 11:27And God is saying, do not be like them, they have their
- 11:31reward. When people are inspired by
- 11:35their long winded prayers and how eloquent they are, God says
- 11:41that's all the reward that they will ever get.
- 11:44He's going to tell us how we should pray. 6 But you, when you
- 11:50pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your
- 11:54door, pray to the Father, which is in secret, and your Father
- 11:59which sees in secret, will reward you openly.
- 12:04This is how the Lord desires for us to have our prayer life.
- 12:11It is an intimate occasion with the Father.
- 12:15And yes, we should give to people openly and should not be
- 12:21afraid of losing a reward because we did it in front of
- 12:24somebody. And yes, we should pray openly
- 12:27in front of people and should not be concerned about losing
- 12:32our reward if we do pray in front of people.
- 12:35But God is telling us by and large that it should not be a
- 12:39show, friends, that it should not be.
- 12:43The main time that you give is when everybody can see.
- 12:47The main time that you pray is that when everybody will hear.
- 12:51He says. There is no reward in that,
- 12:54Friends. 7:00 But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as
- 13:05the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for
- 13:09their much speaking. What's he talking about here?
- 13:13He says, But when you pray, he doesn't say.
- 13:16But if you pray, he says when you pray.
- 13:19Prayer is built into the Christian walk, Friends.
- 13:24Prayerlessness is a sign of someone who is an atheist.
- 13:34They do not truly believe in God.
- 13:36If there is prayerlessness. It takes faith, friends, to
- 13:41pray. It takes faith to know that God
- 13:44is real. It takes faith to know that God
- 13:48is listening. It takes faith to know that God
- 13:51is going to answer your prayers and we should be prayerful.
- 13:56It's not if you pray. It is when you pray.
- 14:00And God is concerned about all prayers, friends.
- 14:05It is our communication with Him.
- 14:07And so many of us don't start praying until there is a crisis.
- 14:15Far be it from us to only pray when we need something.
- 14:19Far be it from us to only pray whenever we are in a crisis.
- 14:26We need to be prayerful about all things all the time.
- 14:30There is no such thing as too small of a prayer and God is so
- 14:35grand. God is all-encompassing.
- 14:38God can hear all of our prayers all at once, all the time.
- 14:43He is not too busy to hear your popcorn prayer, Friends.
- 14:47Throw it up there, friends. Give him His glory.
- 14:51Give him His dew. Pray while you're riding down
- 14:54the road with your eyes wide open.
- 14:56Pray whenever you are at home laying in the bed.
- 15:00Pray on your knees. Pray on your stomach.
- 15:03Pray with your eyes open and closed.
- 15:06Pray at all times. Never stop praying.
- 15:10Pray without ceasing. Take every thought captive.
- 15:14Turn it into a prayer. Friends, hey, be not you
- 15:23therefore like unto them, for your Father knows what things
- 15:28you have need of before you ask him.
- 15:30So this is a beautiful picture of God already knowing our
- 15:36needs. And He is desirous of dialogue.
- 15:41He is desirous of us up ticking our prayer life.
- 15:46God is desirous to hear from you, friends, God wants to hear
- 15:50your voice. 9 After this manner, Therefore pray you, our Father,
- 16:02which is in heaven, holy is your name. 10 Your Kingdom come, and
- 16:10your will be done in earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this
- 16:16day Our Daily Bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
- 16:22debtors. 13 Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
- 16:27evil, for yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory
- 16:34forever. Amen.
- 16:36So here is a beautiful model prayer.
- 16:39This is the Lords prayer and Jesus here is giving us an
- 16:44outline. It is not that we just have the
- 16:47vain repetition that he just mentioned in the verses above.
- 16:52This should be the this is the model.
- 16:56This is not just what we should pray exactly like this.
- 17:01But if you notice, the very first thing he's doing is he is
- 17:05acknowledging God's supremacy. He's acknowledging God's
- 17:09holiness. He is acknowledging how set
- 17:13apart God's name is, friends. And then he's praying for God's
- 17:18Kingdom and God's will to be done, not our own.
- 17:22It takes our eyes off of self and it puts them on God
- 17:27Almighty. Then He flows into Our Daily
- 17:31Bread, our sustenance. He gives us just enough for the
- 17:35day, friends. He gives us exactly what we
- 17:39need. Then that flows in to our
- 17:45forgiveness. If you believe that you've been
- 17:47forgiven of all your sins of the natural overflows, that you will
- 17:50extend that out to people all around you.
- 17:54You will not hold on to bitterness, friends.
- 17:58You will not be those that have hatred in their hearts.
- 18:02You will see people the way that God does and it will be easy for
- 18:06you to forgive them. We are called to be ministers of
- 18:10reconciliation. It's an easy overflow to forgive
- 18:16people because of all the forgiveness that we have
- 18:19experienced. He's asking that God will not
- 18:24allow us to be tempted, that God will rebuke the Devourer from
- 18:29off of our lives. He's asking here in this model
- 18:32prayer that the tempter will leave in the name of Jesus.
- 18:39And he's asking to be delivered from the enemy.
- 18:43And then he acknowledges he is. Book ends.
- 18:46At the end of our prayers, we go back to acknowledging God's
- 18:50supremacy. For His is the Kingdom, and His
- 18:55is the power, and His is the glory, forever and ever.
- 18:59Amen. This is the model of how we
- 19:03should base our prayer lives. 14 For if you forgive men their
- 19:11trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
- 19:15So here, 14 he's backing up the thought of forgive us our debts
- 19:23as we forgive our debtors. And then he says that we should
- 19:26forgive because of our forgiveness that we've
- 19:29experienced. Then 15 says, But if you do not
- 19:33forgive people their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive
- 19:37your trespasses. So he's showing us how a
- 19:41believer will behave, not how we should behave, but how we will
- 19:47behave. Because of all the forgiveness
- 19:50that we have experienced. It is natural for us to forgive
- 19:54those 16. Moreover, when you fast.
- 20:02Do not be as the hypocrites of a of a sad countenance, for they
- 20:07disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast.
- 20:12Truly, I say unto you, they have their reward.
- 20:16So these were the Pharisees. These were the religious folk of
- 20:20Jesus's day. And it's no different in our
- 20:22time here, friends in our our friends, people who fast, they
- 20:27want to let you know really quickly, I'm fasting.
- 20:30I can't have that. And God says you have your
- 20:33reward. These people, they would
- 20:35disfigure their faces and they would show everybody that they
- 20:39were fasting and they did it on specific days.
- 20:41It was no secret. And Jesus said when you fast,
- 20:45not if. So fasting should be built into
- 20:50the Christian walk just as much as giving our tithes and
- 20:55offerings and of ourselves and our time and our treasures.
- 20:59And it is built into the Christian wall just as much as
- 21:03our prayer life is built into the wall, just as much as
- 21:07rewards are built into the Christian wall.
- 21:11Fasting is also built in France. It's all part of God's plan for
- 21:17us to mirror His goodness and grace and mercy to the nations.
- 21:24And fasting is a fast track way for your prayers to get
- 21:29answered. Some things only go out by
- 21:32prayer and fasting. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head,
- 21:42wash your face, 18 that you appear not unto men to fast, but
- 21:48unto your Father which is in secret.
- 21:51And your Father which sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
- 21:57Any of us who have been walking with the Lord for any amount of
- 21:59time, we understand this principle.
- 22:02We understand how God not only will reward us on the day of our
- 22:08judgment, we will be rewarded. Most of what we do is wood, hay,
- 22:13and stubble. But there are things that we do
- 22:16in secret that God sees and He will reward us.
- 22:19And those rewards we will take with us for all of eternity,
- 22:23friends. But He also openly rewards us
- 22:27here in the now. And people will say that is
- 22:30called favor, and perhaps the favor that you are experiencing,
- 22:35friend, all the things you do and you do not seek men's
- 22:39approval. And perhaps if you feel like
- 22:42God's hand is heavy upon you, it's because you're one of those
- 22:46who every time you do something, you want everybody to know about
- 22:49it. And there is no reward in that,
- 22:51friends. 19. Do not lay up for yourselves
- 22:57treasures on Earth, where moth and rust corrupts, where thieves
- 23:02break in and steal. 20 but lay. Up for yourselves treasures in
- 23:08heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves
- 23:13do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is there
- 23:19your heart will be also. So here is a principle 19 and 20
- 23:24and 21 are all grouped together of what it looks like when we
- 23:29send it ahead. There's a lot of people that
- 23:32this is their Kingdom here on this earth and they're trying to
- 23:35build their Kingdom up and God is saying send it ahead.
- 23:40You cannot outgive God with your treasures, your talents, your
- 23:44resources, your time. You cannot outgive God.
- 23:48Anything that we sow into the Kingdom will be magnified and it
- 23:54will produce a crop. Just send it ahead friends.
- 23:58And that is not somebody who is interested in your financial
- 24:04status. This is coming from somebody who
- 24:07truly cares about your spirituality way more than your
- 24:12financial status. Send it ahead.
- 24:19Friends, you'll never regret it. God can take the $1.00 and He
- 24:24can turn it into hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- 24:28God can take our small obedience and turn it into an entire
- 24:34ministry that reaches hundreds of thousands of people.
- 24:39Friends, don't discount the small gifts and the small
- 24:45amount. Send it ahead, friends, where it
- 24:49can be used mightily in the Kingdom of God.
- 24:52And when you give, not if, but when you give, you give to God,
- 24:58you do not give to man. Never forget that.
- 25:01What man does with it, from that point forward, he is accountable
- 25:06unto God, and he will answer for that.
- 25:08Friends, we give to God, we do not give to man. 22 the.
- 25:18Light of the body is the eye. If your eye be single, your
- 25:22whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if your eye is
- 25:27evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness.
- 25:31It If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great
- 25:36is that darkness? So 22 and 23, it shows us the
- 25:41eyes or the windows to the soul. It shows us that we need to be
- 25:45very keenly in tune with someone whenever they are trying to sell
- 25:51us something, whenever they are trying to push something upon
- 25:55us. God is telling us there are
- 25:57intelligence indicators that we can look for.
- 26:00The shifty eyes, the ones who will not look at you, the ones
- 26:05who are bent upon evil. Goddess showing us that there
- 26:09are indicators. If your radar is on and your
- 26:12antenna is up, you should be able to discern that.
- 26:15Friends, He's showing us how 24. No man can serve 2 masters or he
- 26:22will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to
- 26:26the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon.
- 26:32What is this Mammon that is spoke of here in 24?
- 26:37It is showing us that we cannot serve both God and money.
- 26:43You will love 1. And you will hate the other.
- 26:45There are a lot of people where money is their God.
- 26:49They believe that money is going to buy them all of their
- 26:52happiness. They believe that money can fix
- 26:56everything. And they are so completely bent
- 26:59upon money. And they nod their hat at God.
- 27:04And they are speaking as if they love God, but deep down they
- 27:09love money. And God is saying you cannot
- 27:12serve both him and money. It takes faith to serve God.
- 27:17Faith is the currency of the believer, friends, It is not the
- 27:21almighty dollar. It is almighty God that we
- 27:24serve. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Do not take thought for
- 27:31your life what you shall eat and what you shall drink, nor yet
- 27:35for your body what you shall put on.
- 27:38Is not life more than meat in the body, more than clothing?
- 27:42What's he talking about here in 25?
- 27:45He's saying that do not be so preoccupied with money and with
- 27:49things. He's saying trust God for
- 27:52everything. 26 Behold. The fowls of the air, for they
- 27:57do not, so neither do they reap, nor do they gather into barns.
- 28:02Yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
- 28:04Are you not much better than they?
- 28:06He's saying look at the birds. Notice how God feeds them, but
- 28:10also notice how the birds get out and work.
- 28:14The birds do not sit in their nest with their mouth open,
- 28:17waiting for worms to drop out of the sky.
- 28:20God expects them to get out into work, but He provides for them.
- 28:23Friends. 27 Which of you, by taking thought, can add 1 cubit
- 28:30unto your statue? 28 And why take you thought for
- 28:36clothing? Consider the lilies of the
- 28:38field, how they grow. They do not toil, neither do
- 28:42they spend. 29 And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon and
- 28:47all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore
- 28:51if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and
- 28:56tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe
- 29:00you, O you of little faith? Faith is the currency that we
- 29:04operate out of friends, He's saying, Who of you by worrying,
- 29:08can add a single day to your life?
- 29:10Who of you by worrying can add a single inch to your stature?
- 29:15Who of you by worrying can do anything?
- 29:18It is by faith. Friends, look at how God feeds
- 29:21the birds and he clothes the lilies of the field and he says
- 29:26be content with clothing and food.
- 29:30Do not worry about everything else.
- 29:32God will take care of it. He's telling us that we need to
- 29:36have faith. That is the currency that we
- 29:38operate out of. 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What
- 29:43shall we eat, what shall we drink, where, how shall we be
- 29:48clothed? 32 For after all these things
- 29:51the Gentiles seek, for, your heavenly Father knows that you
- 29:55have need of all these things he's saying.
- 29:58Don't worry about it, Put it in God's hands.
- 30:01Trust that God knows what he's doing.
- 30:03If there's lack in your house, friends, it is only perceived
- 30:07lack because God does not withhold.
- 30:11If there is lack in your house, it's because God desires to pull
- 30:15things out of you that do not belong.
- 30:17A lot of us, our problems are first world problems.
- 30:21Friends, we need to put everything into context and we
- 30:26need to understand that God gives us our clothing.
- 30:29God gives us our food. It is a promise.
- 30:32When you become a child of the Most high God, He will clothe
- 30:36you and He will feed you. He promises that. 33 he tells.
- 30:41Us why there is lack. He tells us why there is
- 30:45perceived lack in 33. He says, Seek first the Kingdom
- 30:50of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be
- 30:56added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for
- 31:00tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of
- 31:03itself. Sufficient unto the day is the
- 31:07evil thereof. God saying that today's hard
- 31:11enough. Don't worry about.
- 31:14Tomorrow, don't worry yourself into anxiety and depression.
- 31:18Don't worry about anything but seek first the Kingdom of God.
- 31:23Seek it in the morning, friends, when you first wake up and watch
- 31:26how the overflow of God's peace comes flowing into your life.
- 31:31And you know that you know that you know that God is in the
- 31:34room. You know that.
- 31:35You know that you know that God is going to take care of you.
- 31:40This is the promise. That we have.
- 31:42Praise God for this chapter here in the Bible.
- 31:45I hope you've been blessed by it.
- 31:46I know, I sure have. I'm praying for.
- 31:52Every single one of you. I love you.
- 31:56So does God. We'll see you back here
- 31:58tomorrow. God bless you.
