Latest / The Mark Simone Show / Hour 2: CNN's pollster.
Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, it's hour number two. That's right. If you just
- 0:12Speaker 1: tuned in, you missed the first hour. It's nine to
- 0:15Speaker 1: noon every day, nine o'clock till noon. Look at that.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's September 1st. How the hell did that happen? Oh,
- 0:22Speaker 1: my God. It's September 1st already. Labor Day weekend is
- 0:25Speaker 1: just days away from now. Tim Cook is gone. We'll
- 0:30Speaker 1: talk about that. Howard Stern, just about gone. We'll get
- 0:33Speaker 1: to him. We'll get to the midterms. Hey, J.D. Vance
- 0:38Speaker 1: is in Michigan. He's been sent there to campaign against El-Sayed.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And El-Sayed getting attacked left and right. People yelling and screaming.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Abdul El-Sayed, just a ridiculous, typical phony democratic socialist. They're
- 0:56Speaker 1: all wealthy people telling you you should be poor and
- 1:01Speaker 1: let them take care of you. Now, listen, he's getting
- 1:03Speaker 1: flack from every direction in Michigan.
- 1:05Speaker 2: But I'd like to ask El Saeed one question. If
- 1:08Speaker 2: he wants free everything, free health care for all, why
- 1:11Speaker 2: exactly does his wife, who's a doctor, why does she
- 1:15Speaker 2: not accept Medicaid and Medicare?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Is that odd?
- 1:19Speaker 2: Oh, do what you say, not as you do. You
- 1:22Speaker 2: want to know why? Because they know we live in
- 1:24Speaker 2: America and they like freedom, too.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of– hey, by the way, that free
- 1:31Speaker 1: healthcare for all, the free this, the free that, a
- 1:34Speaker 1: new study shows that if you implemented all the democratic
- 1:37Speaker 1: social ideas, it would cost $ 200 trillion. $ 200 trillion. That
- 1:46Speaker 1: would be the end of America as you know it.
- 1:49Speaker 1: A staggering $ 200 trillion would be the cost of everything.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I mean, you go through all of this stuff. healthcare
- 1:59Speaker 1: for everybody, you're talking about $ 50 trillion over the next decade.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Slavery reparations, you're talking about $ 20 trillion. Federal jobs guarantee,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you're talking about $ 50 trillion. I mean, it just goes
- 2:11Speaker 1: on and on and piles up to $ 200 trillion. So
- 2:15Speaker 1: you couldn't do all of it. It'd be impossible. It
- 2:18Speaker 1: can't be done anyway. It's not even logical. So Vice
- 2:21Speaker 1: President J.D. Vance has been sent to Michigan. He's from Ohio,
- 2:25Speaker 1: so he speaks that language, that Midwestern Ohio, Michigan language,
- 2:29Speaker 1: he's there to campaign against El-Sayed.
- 2:32Speaker 4: And I realize that there's something about Abdul El-Sayed that
- 2:36Speaker 4: is very, very evil and on the rise in the
- 2:41Speaker 4: United States of America today. And it's people who see
- 2:45Speaker 4: themselves not as citizens of a common nation fighting for
- 2:50Speaker 4: every single person, whether they're Jewish or Christian, whether they're
- 2:53Speaker 4: white or black or brown. but see themselves as fighting
- 2:57Speaker 4: for one group at the expense of others. And that
- 3:00Speaker 4: is how ladies and gentlemen, you destroy the United States
- 3:04Speaker 4: of America.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Well, now you'll notice the first woman said, uh, El Saeed,
- 3:10Speaker 1: he says El Syed and I say El Syed. Well,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I guess, uh, Vance is right. Cause
- 3:17Speaker 1: if you look at the way it's spelled El Syed,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I like El Syed. It sounds better. El Syed.
- 3:23Speaker 5: All right.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Um, He's slightly ahead in the polls right now. But
- 3:29Speaker 1: you're going to see these polls everywhere showing that the
- 3:33Speaker 1: Republicans in big trouble, that the Democrats have the advantage
- 3:36Speaker 1: in the midterms. And they go state by state by
- 3:38Speaker 1: state in the polls. They show you how the Democrats
- 3:40Speaker 1: are going to, they're ahead here, there, everywhere. Well, if
- 3:44Speaker 1: you look into the metrics of the polls, they're all rigged.
- 3:47Speaker 1: They're not real polls. They're rigged polls. You know, the
- 3:50Speaker 1: Republicans are 23% of the sample. It's supposed to be 36%
- 3:52Speaker 1: of the sample. They're not using likely voters. They're not
- 3:58Speaker 1: using the right demos. So they're all, and that's a
- 4:02Speaker 1: good sign that Republicans are going to win. If you
- 4:05Speaker 1: want to use the polls, what you look at is
- 4:07Speaker 1: the metrics and you see how much they're rigged. If
- 4:10Speaker 1: they're rigged that much, that means the Republicans are going
- 4:14Speaker 1: to do well. Now, the only honest pollster in the media,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know, the media, you're seeing these college polls, these
- 4:20Speaker 1: media polls, you can't trust any of them. They're all cheap, flimsy,
- 4:23Speaker 1: fake polls. The only one you can trust is this
- 4:26Speaker 1: Harry Enten who's on CNN. I don't know how the
- 4:29Speaker 1: hell this happens, but the CNN pollster is very honest.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Even President Trump tweeting out that, you know, thanking the
- 4:39Speaker 1: CNN pollster for being honest. Here he is on CNN
- 4:42Speaker 1: talking about how bad the Democrats look in the midterms.
- 4:45Speaker 6: In April, according to a Washington Post episode, Paul, the
- 4:47Speaker 6: Democrats were more trusted by two points. Again, close margin,
- 4:50Speaker 6: no clear leader. But look where the shift has been.
- 4:52Speaker 6: If anything, the shift has been in the Republican direction.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Now the Republicans and Donald Trump are trusted more by
- 5:00Speaker 6: two points on a run. So, again, over the course
- 5:02Speaker 6: of the war, if anything... The Republicans have been the
- 5:06Speaker 6: ones that have been gaining ground, which I think just
- 5:08Speaker 6: goes so opposed to all of the news coverage.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah, now the way they con you in the media,
- 5:13Speaker 1: whether you're watching CNN or MSNBC or New York Times,
- 5:16Speaker 1: they show you the president's approval ratings. Look how low
- 5:19Speaker 1: his approval ratings have dropped to 39%. Look at his
- 5:23Speaker 1: approval ratings down to 40%. They keep showing you this.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Look how bad his approval ratings are. They never mention
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Democratic's approval ratings. which is down to like 2%.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And good for Harry Enten on CNN. He points it
- 5:38Speaker 1: out all the time. The Democrats' approval ratings are not
- 5:42Speaker 1: only lower than Trump's, they're lower than anybody's ever been.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The Democrats now have the lowest approval ratings in all
- 5:49Speaker 1: these polls, but that's the only place you'll see it
- 5:52Speaker 1: publicly is Harry Enten. Howard Stern, well, you know, they're
- 5:58Speaker 1: basically getting out of the Howard Stern business over there
- 6:00Speaker 1: at Sirius. This guy was under a $ 500 million contract,
- 6:05Speaker 1: $ 100 million a year. And through the years, they kept
- 6:08Speaker 1: cutting his salary. And every time they'd cut his salary,
- 6:12Speaker 1: he'd compromise with them and cut his work hours. You know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it was five days a week. Then it was four
- 6:17Speaker 1: days a week. Then it became three days a week.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And then they cut him again. So in the last contract,
- 6:22Speaker 1: it was three days a week, but only like.
- 6:24Speaker 7: 20 weeks a year.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I mean, there was very few life shifts. So the
- 6:28Speaker 1: new contract is a drastic pay cut. So he's going
- 6:34Speaker 1: to do one show a week. It's down to one
- 6:36Speaker 1: show a week and not every week. So very, very,
- 6:40Speaker 1: very few shows. Now, you could step back and look
- 6:44Speaker 1: at it and say, well, when he went woke, when
- 6:46Speaker 1: he went crazy left wing, when he turned on Trump,
- 6:50Speaker 1: when he embraced the Democrats, when he became woke Howard,
- 6:55Speaker 1: that was the end. He lost his audience. Yeah, there's
- 6:56Speaker 1: a lot of truth to that. Yeah, he did lose
- 7:00Speaker 1: an enormous chunk of the audience, and that's what sunk him.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But there's some people that will argue you can't stay
- 7:08Speaker 1: the same. You've got to keep evolving. When he first
- 7:12Speaker 1: came to New York years ago when he was throwing
- 7:15Speaker 1: pies in the face of strippers and all the crazy
- 7:18Speaker 1: stunts running around the street with the megaphone, all those
- 7:22Speaker 1: antics are great. But when you hit 70 or whatever
- 7:25Speaker 1: he is, 72, You got to change. You can't keep
- 7:29Speaker 1: doing that stuff. He's not a, you know, like a
- 7:32Speaker 1: crazy kid anymore. So you got to evolve. And that's true.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean you got to go super woke.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Look at the career of Imus, who was a crazy
- 7:41Speaker 1: shock jock. Then as he got older, it became more
- 7:44Speaker 1: of a talk show. Then it became more of a
- 7:45Speaker 1: political talk show. Then it became a very highbrow political show.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You got to evolve. You got to keep changing. Look
- 7:52Speaker 1: at me. I used to be a rock and roll
- 7:54Speaker 1: DJ here in New York. Then it was... The more
- 7:58Speaker 1: grown-up music, and then it was talk, and then it
- 8:00Speaker 1: was more talk.
- 8:01Speaker 7: I mean, you change.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's very important to go back and listen to yourself.
- 8:06Speaker 1: 10 years ago, 20 years ago, you better sound a
- 8:10Speaker 1: lot different. You can't keep doing the same thing all
- 8:12Speaker 1: your life. There are people that do that. Whatever they
- 8:15Speaker 1: were doing in 1983, good enough for now. They just
- 8:18Speaker 1: keep doing the same show every day. Trump came up
- 8:21Speaker 1: with the best name for those people. he calls them
- 8:24Speaker 1: stopped clocks. This guy's just a stopped clock. He's just
- 8:28Speaker 1: doing the same thing he's always done. So Howard Stern
- 8:30Speaker 1: did have to evolve and change, but I think he
- 8:32Speaker 1: went in the wrong direction, way in the wrong direction.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So he's down to one, one day a week. And,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, it's two channels.
- 8:42Speaker 7: It's serious.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Howard, 100 Howard, one Oh one. So they're taking away
- 8:46Speaker 1: one Oh one. They've taken it away from him. Uh,
- 8:50Speaker 1: he's laid off a lot of people, just, After the
- 8:53Speaker 1: last round of layoffs, they just laid off another 12 people.
- 8:56Speaker 1: A lot of layoffs at the Howard outfit there. Now,
- 9:02Speaker 1: the 101 channel will be taken over by Andy Cohen.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It'll become Radio Andy. So the two of them have
- 9:09Speaker 1: just recorded a promo trying to make it look like
- 9:13Speaker 1: it's Howard's idea. It's a promo. It's a video. It's
- 9:17Speaker 1: all over Instagram and everywhere. uh, with it's Howard and
- 9:21Speaker 1: Andy talking. And, uh, Howard access, if he's decided to
- 9:26Speaker 1: turn the channel over to Andy, it's not his idea, but, uh,
- 9:30Speaker 1: he's pretending it's his idea and he wants Andy to
- 9:33Speaker 1: take it over and he's telling him what he wants
- 9:34Speaker 1: him to do. Now, the, uh, they're trying to find
- 9:38Speaker 1: some saving grace here to make it look like Howard's
- 9:40Speaker 1: not being pushed out. So they've made a deal with
- 9:43Speaker 1: HBO max. Apparently it's not much of a deal financially,
- 9:47Speaker 1: but that, uh, One show a week, Howard Stern's studio
- 9:52Speaker 1: is also a TV studio. So besides doing the radio show,
- 9:55Speaker 1: there's video of every show. And a lot of our
- 9:58Speaker 1: shows here do that. If you go across the hall there,
- 10:00Speaker 1: Charlemagne's studio is also a TV studio. Down the hall
- 10:05Speaker 1: that way, Elvis Duran's studio, also a TV studio. So
- 10:08Speaker 1: both those shows, they do video. So there's a TV version,
- 10:11Speaker 1: a radio version. Howard does the same thing. So they're
- 10:15Speaker 1: going to chop up that one hour or that one
- 10:18Speaker 1: show a week that he does. into one hour and
- 10:21Speaker 1: make it a TV show. And that'll be on HBO max. Now,
- 10:24Speaker 1: apparently it's not much of a money deal, uh, but, uh,
- 10:28Speaker 1: it'll drop on Thursdays. So you can watch an hour
- 10:34Speaker 1: of it on Thursday. Another problem is nobody's listening to
- 10:36Speaker 1: the radio show anymore. So I don't know who's going
- 10:39Speaker 1: to watch this one hour. And the problem is he does, he, uh,
- 10:42Speaker 1: he started doing these interviews and, uh, his diehards say, Oh,
- 10:45Speaker 1: what an interview? Ooh, is he a great interview? The
- 10:47Speaker 1: worst interviews ever. They take like three and a half hours.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Every question is like 15 minutes long. It's just ponderous,
- 10:54Speaker 1: these interviews. If you cut them up into the highlights,
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's great. It's great where McCartney tells a couple of
- 11:00Speaker 1: great stories. You cut that together. So that's why the
- 11:03Speaker 1: HBO show might work. But if you listen to the
- 11:05Speaker 1: whole three-hour interview, it's just dragging on and on. So
- 11:09Speaker 1: this should be the, I think he signed a three-year
- 11:12Speaker 1: contract or four-year contract, something like that. But that'll be
- 11:15Speaker 1: the end. Then he'll kind of wrap it up. Hey,
- 11:17Speaker 1: speaking of that, Tim Cook, stepped down yesterday as chairman
- 11:21Speaker 1: of Apple. There's no more Tim Cook. The new guy
- 11:24Speaker 1: took over today. Today it's being run by the new guy, who's,
- 11:29Speaker 1: where's his name here? John Ternus, who had been head
- 11:33Speaker 1: of Apple's hardware division, but apparently he was the closest
- 11:37Speaker 1: guy to Tim Cook. They were inseparable at all the meetings.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So he's really groomed this guy. Now, when Tim Cook
- 11:45Speaker 1: took over, everybody was upset. Steve Jobs was gone. They
- 11:49Speaker 1: had no faith in Tim Cook, but under Tim Cook,
- 11:53Speaker 1: they've grown to become a $ 4 trillion company. If you
- 11:58Speaker 1: have Apple stock, you've made a fortune under Tim Cook.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So he's chosen John Ternus. Hopefully he will lead them
- 12:04Speaker 1: to bigger and better things. Obviously, Apple, huge success when
- 12:09Speaker 1: it comes to hardware, phones, all that stuff. The criticism
- 12:13Speaker 1: of Cook is he wasn't good enough with Apple. with AI.
- 12:16Speaker 1: He didn't keep up. He's a little behind in AI.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Ternus said he'll work on that. That's his number one priority.
- 12:23Speaker 1: A little more AI in Siri. Oh, God, that's all
- 12:26Speaker 1: we need. Hey, by the way, he's going to make
- 12:28Speaker 1: his debut publicly, Ternus, on, I think it's September 9th.
- 12:32Speaker 1: They're going to introduce all the new stuff. The new
- 12:35Speaker 1: Apple Watch Series 12. It'll have improved health and fitness tracking.
- 12:41Speaker 1: All right, because some of the health stuff in the
- 12:43Speaker 1: Apple Watch, especially the sleep tracker, Totally, completely inaccurate sometimes.
- 12:49Speaker 1: The new phones will be coming out. Everybody believes they'll
- 12:52Speaker 1: have the first foldable phone. You can unfold the phone.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It becomes twice the size, the screen. It's going to
- 13:00Speaker 1: be over $ 2, 000. I know Samsung and a lot of
- 13:06Speaker 1: Android phones were foldable, but they had a crease.
- 13:09Speaker 7: You could see the crease.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Apple did not want to do it until they got
- 13:12Speaker 1: rid of the crease. They claim they've gotten rid of
- 13:14Speaker 1: the crease. The new iPhone 18 will be out September 9th.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Longer battery life. The featured one will be a deep
- 13:22Speaker 1: red color. It's going to have a much better camera,
- 13:25Speaker 1: all that stuff. So that's where you get to see
- 13:27Speaker 1: this guy, John Ternes. That's where he'll make his debut.
- 13:31Speaker 1: The new AirPods, well, it looks like they may have
- 13:35Speaker 1: cameras in them. I don't know. There's a lot of
- 13:37Speaker 1: privacy concerns because the cameras will be looking in every direction.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But supposedly with the camera, it'll help the phone do
- 13:45Speaker 1: much better with the sound for some reason. All right, well,
- 13:50Speaker 1: that all comes out. You'll see September 9th, they'll unveil
- 13:53Speaker 1: all this stuff. That doesn't mean it'll be available September 9th,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but it usually comes out a couple weeks after that. Hey,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Nicki Minaj and Dean Cain, these are two stars, Hollywood types,
- 14:05Speaker 1: that are actually conservatives and Trump supporters. That's unusual for Hollywood.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Nicki Minaj and Dean Cain. So President Trump is going
- 14:12Speaker 1: to use them, his administration, the Small Business Administration. You know,
- 14:16Speaker 1: every so often they do a Shark Tank sort of parody.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It's a competition for the Small Business Administration. They give
- 14:24Speaker 1: a million dollars away to whoever's got a good idea
- 14:26Speaker 1: for a small business. So they're going to do like
- 14:29Speaker 1: a Shark Tank style competition. And they've got Nicki Minaj
- 14:33Speaker 1: and Dean Cain to host it. You'll be seeing a
- 14:36Speaker 1: lot more of Dean Cain. He's... This guy's going to
- 14:39Speaker 1: do a lot. He's a conservative. It's unusual for Hollywood.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Hollywood kind of turned their back on him. But watch,
- 14:44Speaker 1: he's going to turn to broadcasting and shows and all
- 14:48Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Political type stuff. Hey, we'll take
- 14:52Speaker 1: some calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 14:53Speaker 8: 800-321-0710.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Welcome back to The Mark Simone Show. Live from the
- 14:56Speaker 1: WOR LifeVac studios. Hey, we'll take some calls. And we
- 15:12Speaker 1: always like to get new callers. If you've never called before,
- 15:14Speaker 1: give us a call. 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 15:19Speaker 7: 800-321-0710.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Let's go to Mara in Nevada. Mara, how are you doing?
- 15:28Speaker 8: A very old caller.
- 15:31Speaker 1: How old are you?
- 15:34Speaker 8: A very old caller, Mark. I'm so happy for this
- 15:37Speaker 8: extra hour, 9 to 12. You know what time I
- 15:40Speaker 8: had to get up this morning?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 8: A quarter to six.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So a three-hour time difference, right? It's six o'clock.
- 15:47Speaker 9: Yes.
- 15:48Speaker 8: And I'm so happy. I'm sitting here. I got dressed.
- 15:51Speaker 8: I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and I'm sitting
- 15:53Speaker 8: here listening to you.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Now, older people, older people, really older people, why do
- 15:59Speaker 1: they all get up at five in the morning? It's
- 16:01Speaker 1: not like they got to go to work.
- 16:02Speaker 8: No, I usually get up around 630.
- 16:04Speaker 7: Who gets up at 630?
- 16:05Speaker 1: Why do you get up so early?
- 16:07Speaker 8: Well, because the sun is out here. You know, it's
- 16:11Speaker 8: sunny all the time. You can't stay. I'm a morning person. Well,
- 16:14Speaker 8: I don't go to bed until 9.30, 10 o'clock.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Oh, my God. What a wild woman. 9.30.
- 16:19Speaker 8: 96 years old. That's pretty good.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That Target demo. Perfect. Now, in Las Vegas, you're not
- 16:26Speaker 1: supposed to go to sleep at 9 o'clock.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 16:29Speaker 8: But, you know, I don't go. It's close. We're 45
- 16:33Speaker 8: miles away. I would like to go to the Sphere.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 8: They say it's very nice, but, you know, I have
- 16:42Speaker 8: macular degeneration, although I don't need a walker or a cane.
- 16:46Speaker 8: It's difficult with steps going down. So some things I
- 16:50Speaker 8: can't see, but I hear it's wonderful and exciting.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you would love it. Well, I don't know if
- 16:56Speaker 1: you're a big fan of the acts that play there.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You're not a big Eagles fan, are you?
- 17:00Speaker 7: No, no.
- 17:01Speaker 8: I'm Frank Sinatra.
- 17:02Speaker 1: You know, that's my age. See, if you go to Sphere, it's...
- 17:06Speaker 1: It's not going to be Andy Williams, if you know
- 17:07Speaker 1: what I mean. It might not be an actor.
- 17:09Speaker 8: I know he's gone.
- 17:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:11Speaker 8: Well, I know. But you will know I'm a fan
- 17:14Speaker 8: of Freddie Mercury. I love Freddie Mercury.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Well, there you go. Contemporary. What did he die? 40
- 17:19Speaker 1: years ago? That's very contemporary.
- 17:22Speaker 8: Well, no. The last movie I went to see was
- 17:24Speaker 8: Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 17:25Speaker 7: Great. Wow.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.
- 17:28Speaker 8: That's 30 years ago. I went to the movies to
- 17:29Speaker 8: see Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 17:30Speaker 1: All right. Well, thanks for calling, Mara. Let's go to
- 17:35Speaker 1: Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how are you doing?
- 17:37Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Mark, I'm okay.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I believe that the city council passing outdoor dining 24-7,
- 17:43Speaker 3: 360 days a year, is just another veiled attempt to
- 17:50Speaker 3: eliminate cars in New York City. Tell me, who is
- 17:54Speaker 3: going to eat out in a shed? I don't care
- 17:58Speaker 3: where it is. When it's five degrees out in New
- 18:02Speaker 3: York City and there's snow everywhere except where they have
- 18:07Speaker 3: the steam pipes under the street, Con Edison steam pipes
- 18:11Speaker 3: that are melting the snow. This is just another attempt.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And if they're doing it, These people who put these
- 18:21Speaker 3: sheds out beyond the curb, they should have to pay
- 18:25Speaker 3: not only a fee, a permit fee, they should have
- 18:27Speaker 3: to pay rent for the city's real estate because that's
- 18:31Speaker 3: the real estate of the public.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well, once again, Vincent, you're absolutely right. It doesn't
- 18:37Speaker 1: make sense to block the road, but you're right. They
- 18:38Speaker 1: hate cars, so that's why they're doing it. Good call, Vincent.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Thanks for calling. Let's go to Michael in Oyster Bay. Michael,
- 18:45Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 18:46Speaker 9: Hey, great, great.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I like the extra hour also. I have a question
- 18:50Speaker 5: for you.
- 18:50Speaker 3: What's your opinion?
- 18:51Speaker 5: Donald Trump wants to change the daylight saving time, but
- 18:53Speaker 5: here's what I think he should do. The weather's been lousy,
- 18:56Speaker 5: like in May and June over the last couple of years.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Can he move summer to start July 1st and end
- 18:59Speaker 5: October 15th?
- 19:00Speaker 1: No, I wouldn't move that daylight saving. I'd make it
- 19:04Speaker 1: two hours. No, you need an extra hour of daylight,
- 19:09Speaker 1: especially there in Oyster Bay. You've got Cooper Bluff. You've
- 19:12Speaker 1: got all that stuff there.
- 19:13Speaker 5: I want to go boating, yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:16Speaker 1: All right. Well, thanks for calling. Let's go to Tim
- 19:18Speaker 1: in Hartsdale. Tim, how you doing?
- 19:21Speaker 9: Hi, Mark.
- 19:22Speaker 5: I love your show. Yeah, I was just calling.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I had a great suggestion, I think, for Howard Stern.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I think they should put him on The View.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I think he would fit right in. Well, actually, he
- 19:36Speaker 1: looks like an old woman, and he does say all
- 19:39Speaker 1: the left-wing things. You're right. He would be perfect there.
- 19:41Speaker 1: He looks like one of them. Yeah, you're right. No,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I like that idea. He's a crazy left winger. Looks
- 19:47Speaker 1: like an old lady. Acts like an old lady. Be
- 19:49Speaker 1: perfect for the view. It is a good idea. Let's
- 19:51Speaker 1: go to Barney in Eastport. Barney, where's Eastport? Next to Northport?
- 19:56Speaker 9: Eastport's east of Long Island, just a little west of
- 20:00Speaker 9: West Hampton Beach.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Oh, that's way out there then.
- 20:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 9: And so anyway, Mark, I do want to talk to you.
- 20:07Speaker 9: We're talking about the demise of variety shows, but I,
- 20:11Speaker 9: Another thing I wanted to mention was that, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 9: Dolly Parton passed Tim Curry, but one of my favorites
- 20:16Speaker 9: just passed J.P. Morgan.
- 20:18Speaker 7: J.P.
- 20:18Speaker 9: Morgan.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You were her fan. There's not a lot of J.P.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Morgan fans out there.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Oh, I love J.P.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Morgan.
- 20:23Speaker 9: Especially when she flashed the audience on the Gong Show. Anyway,
- 20:28Speaker 9: you were talking about the demise of the variety shows.
- 20:31Speaker 9: Do you remember this one? Saturday Night Live?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Howard Cosell? It was on... With Howard Cosell?
- 20:38Speaker 9: Not the Saturday night, you know, this was a.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm trying to tell you, the one with Howard Cosell.
- 20:44Speaker 9: It was 75. It was hosted by Howard Cosell.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It took you a while to catch up. Things are
- 20:51Speaker 1: a little slow out there in the Hamptons, but thanks
- 20:54Speaker 1: for calling. Yeah, believe it or not, before there was
- 20:56Speaker 1: a Saturday Night Live, I guess it was Rune Arledge
- 21:01Speaker 1: was running ABC. Before there was ever a Saturday Night Live,
- 21:04Speaker 1: Rune Arledge got the idea of.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Bringing back the Ed Sullivan show. But instead of Sunday nights,
- 21:11Speaker 1: they'd do it Saturday night, primetime, big primetime show. And
- 21:16Speaker 1: it would be like the Ed Sullivan, they'd call it
- 21:17Speaker 1: Saturday Night Live. And they got Howard Cosell, who you
- 21:20Speaker 1: might say, well, he's a bit of a stiff for
- 21:22Speaker 1: a variety show, but that's what Ed Sullivan was. So
- 21:24Speaker 1: he was the host. He called his buddy. He was
- 21:26Speaker 1: friends with John Lennon, begged John Lennon to get the
- 21:29Speaker 1: Beals together for a reunion. He couldn't pull that off,
- 21:31Speaker 1: but I think he got John Lennon to come on.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And I think it only ran half a year. The
- 21:36Speaker 1: variety shows by then were dead. They couldn't make it work,
- 21:39Speaker 1: and it just didn't last. But SNL came along and
- 21:43Speaker 1: sold the title, Saturday Night Live, about a year later. Hey,
- 21:46Speaker 1: when we come back, the great talk show host Howie
- 21:49Speaker 1: Carr will be with us next. Lots to talk to
- 21:52Speaker 1: him about coming up on 710WOR.
- 21:56Speaker 7: The Mark Simone Show, now nine till noon weekdays on 710WOR.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Well, one of the great talk show hosts in the world,
- 22:07Speaker 1: Howie Carr. You can hear him on iHeart. You can
- 22:10Speaker 1: hear his show, his podcast. Just go to the iHeart app.
- 22:12Speaker 1: You can get all of his best-selling books. And actually,
- 22:16Speaker 1: you can get everything at his website, HowieCarrShow.com. HowieCarrShow.com. Howie Carr,
- 22:22Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 22:24Speaker 7: Very good. It's primary election day here in Massachusetts. Uh-oh.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 22:29Speaker 7: Marky, Ed Marky, age 80. backed by Bernie Sanders, age 85,
- 22:37Speaker 7: and Elizabeth Warren, age 78, seems to be headed for
- 22:42Speaker 7: victory over the insufferable former presidential candidate, Seth Moulton. Seth
- 22:48Speaker 7: Moulton ran for president the same year Eric Swalwell did.
- 22:52Speaker 7: At least Moulton's going to lose, but at least he
- 22:54Speaker 7: hasn't been stopped by FBI agents at the airport. He
- 22:57Speaker 7: had his cell phones grabbed.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but Ed Markey's been around Massachusetts for a million years.
- 23:03Speaker 1: You guys are used to him. What's the problem with him?
- 23:07Speaker 7: He's, as someone at the Statehouse, a fellow Democrat says,
- 23:12Speaker 7: he's the man that the time forgot. You know, he's just,
- 23:16Speaker 7: I mean, he's been there since Gerald Ford was president.
- 23:21Speaker 7: And he's never done anything. Never done anything. And he, uh,
- 23:27Speaker 7: you know, he filed separate taxes from his wife. So
- 23:29Speaker 7: he says, I'm not getting rich, but he's got a
- 23:31Speaker 7: nice measure. His wife has a nice mansion in Chevy chase.
- 23:34Speaker 7: He barely, he, he, I don't think he spends any
- 23:37Speaker 7: time in Massachusetts. I mean, he's, I guess this is
- 23:41Speaker 7: good news for Chuck Schumer though. Cause I think Seth
- 23:43Speaker 7: Moulton would, uh, would vote to like, like so many
- 23:46Speaker 7: of the others would vote to get rid of Chuck Schumer. So,
- 23:49Speaker 7: but again, Chuck Schumer is a dead man walking himself,
- 23:51Speaker 7: isn't he?
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah. So what's the difference? Marky sounds like Schumer, a
- 23:55Speaker 1: guy who does nothing, been there too long.
- 23:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 1: How did he survive?
- 24:02Speaker 7: I don't know. I guess maybe he's more innocuous than Schumer.
- 24:08Speaker 7: He's smart. The only time he's up here is when
- 24:10Speaker 7: he's retired. running for reelection. Whereas Schumer, you know, I mean,
- 24:17Speaker 7: you remember back in the old days when he was
- 24:20Speaker 7: first elected to Congress and then when he was running
- 24:22Speaker 7: against the Fonz. I mean, he was this guy. The
- 24:26Speaker 7: people in New York used to show me this stuff.
- 24:28Speaker 7: You know, they have the sheets that, you know, what
- 24:34Speaker 7: the news events are of the day. And he knew
- 24:36Speaker 7: that there was nothing happening on Sunday. So every Sunday
- 24:39Speaker 7: he would be the first he would be the first
- 24:42Speaker 7: guy on the sheet that went out to all the
- 24:46Speaker 7: TV stations and the newspapers and the wire services. And,
- 24:50Speaker 7: you know, Markey has been smart enough not to, I mean,
- 24:53Speaker 7: you know, when he just raises his head, like, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 7: when the Patriots last won the Super Bowl, he congratulated
- 24:59Speaker 7: the Boston Patriots on winning the Super Bowl, which, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 7: they haven't been the Boston Patriots since 1970, but he
- 25:05Speaker 7: didn't know.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well, Uh, yeah, he's kind of like, uh, it's like
- 25:12Speaker 1: Howard Stern, these old fossils after 75 years, you got
- 25:15Speaker 1: to quit. You got to go, uh, Schumer. So, Hey, uh,
- 25:20Speaker 1: you're a protege there, Caroline Levitt stepping down. What do
- 25:23Speaker 1: you think she'll do next?
- 25:26Speaker 7: Well, I mean, I think, I think she's going to
- 25:28Speaker 7: go to work for MAGA, but I think that just seems,
- 25:31Speaker 7: I would think that's just sort of a, uh, you know, a, uh,
- 25:34Speaker 7: transitional place for her. I don't know. I mean, do
- 25:38Speaker 7: you think she goes to work for Fox?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you trained her. I know she's got a
- 25:42Speaker 1: standing offer at Fox. But I can imagine her having
- 25:45Speaker 1: a huge TV career at some point. A lot of
- 25:49Speaker 1: those ex-press secretaries do. Dana Perino, Kayleigh McEnany. Yeah, that's
- 25:55Speaker 1: where she'll end up.
- 25:55Speaker 7: I just don't know what the long-term future is for
- 25:59Speaker 7: the cable TV stations. I know they'll be around for
- 26:03Speaker 7: a while, but... Is that really the way to go,
- 26:07Speaker 7: or is it better to just get into streaming and
- 26:10Speaker 7: just try to anticipate the next wave? What do you think?
- 26:16Speaker 1: I don't know. Fox is pretty good over there. They
- 26:18Speaker 1: send you a big limousine to pick you up. They
- 26:21Speaker 1: got a buffet outside the studio. They got makeup. You
- 26:24Speaker 1: don't get all that with the streaming. It's not the same.
- 26:26Speaker 7: It's pretty nice.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 7: It goes fast. As Ernest Hemingway said, first you go
- 26:34Speaker 7: bankrupt gradually, then suddenly. It happens quickly in the media, Mark.
- 26:39Speaker 7: You may have noticed in the last few decades. What
- 26:42Speaker 7: is happening at CBS, by the way? What are they doing?
- 26:46Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 26:47Speaker 1: That's not going to go well. You know, 60 Minutes,
- 26:50Speaker 1: if this were Don Hewitt and the real 60 Minutes,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and you saw this fraud and that kid exposing old
- 26:57Speaker 1: Nick Shirley, wouldn't they send Mike Wallace right away? When,
- 27:00Speaker 1: how could they ignore a story like that and not
- 27:02Speaker 1: cover it?
- 27:05Speaker 7: Yeah, I, I, I don't, I don't know. I mean,
- 27:07Speaker 7: who are the, who are these new people that they're
- 27:08Speaker 7: bringing in? I mean, they, they don't, uh, they, do they,
- 27:11Speaker 7: do they know anything about TV news? I mean, not,
- 27:13Speaker 7: not that you have to know a lot, but I
- 27:16Speaker 7: don't think they seem to have any experience.
- 27:18Speaker 1: No, I don't know how they get in the building.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Cause nobody, nobody's going to recognize them or know the name,
- 27:23Speaker 1: get in past that guard. But, uh, Hey, let me
- 27:27Speaker 1: ask you something. I was talking about this yesterday. You're
- 27:29Speaker 1: the Kennedy expert. You've written the best books on the Kennedys.
- 27:33Speaker 1: They don't want Trump's name on the Kennedy Center. They're
- 27:35Speaker 1: all up in arms. If these liberals today, if these
- 27:37Speaker 1: Democrats today knew what John F. Kennedy stood for, his
- 27:40Speaker 1: political positions, wouldn't they want his name off the building too?
- 27:44Speaker 1: He was anti-abortion. He was pro-war. He was a tax cutter.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Wouldn't they hate him as much?
- 27:49Speaker 7: He couldn't get on the ballot in Massachusetts because you've
- 27:52Speaker 7: got to get 15% of the vote at the state
- 27:55Speaker 7: Democratic convention, and he couldn't do it. And by the way,
- 28:00Speaker 7: didn't he build a pool in the White House and
- 28:03Speaker 7: nobody said anything?
- 28:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 7: Then Nixon didn't like the pool, so Nixon built a
- 28:09Speaker 7: balding alley over it and nobody said anything. Didn't Obama
- 28:13Speaker 7: build a … build a basketball court going way back.
- 28:18Speaker 7: Another Massachusetts president Coolidge built a, built a tennis courts.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 7: I mean, what is the big deal here? I mean,
- 28:25Speaker 7: I think we have, I think as one of the
- 28:27Speaker 7: Supreme court justices noted, I think we have a precedent
- 28:30Speaker 7: here for allowing to do a little work on the
- 28:34Speaker 7: white house. Don't we?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Very good point. Hey, the midterms, the criticism of the
- 28:40Speaker 1: Republicans is, is they don't have their messaging going. They
- 28:43Speaker 1: don't have a message. They don't have the right campaign going.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Do you agree?
- 28:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I wish it were. Again, I think
- 28:52Speaker 7: I've said this before on the show, but I'm most
- 28:54Speaker 7: worried about the fuel prices. You know, it's gasoline and diesel,
- 29:01Speaker 7: which affects everything that's delivered. And now we're getting into
- 29:05Speaker 7: the fall, and that means home heating oil. I mean,
- 29:09Speaker 7: that's what they've got to get under control. I mean,
- 29:12Speaker 7: I'm not as gloomy as most people. You know these stories,
- 29:17Speaker 7: Texas is in play. Well, isn't that like a standing
- 29:21Speaker 7: head in regime-controlled media? Wasn't Beto O'Rourke going to defeat
- 29:26Speaker 7: Ted Cruz? I mean, we've heard this stuff before, and
- 29:32Speaker 7: I just don't see it happening. And, you know, I mean,
- 29:37Speaker 7: and again, there's some states that shouldn't be in play
- 29:40Speaker 7: that are for Republicans, like Michigan. I mean, that guy, Al-Said,
- 29:46Speaker 7: I mean, I was so glad yesterday that Congresswoman McLean
- 29:49Speaker 7: finally asked the question that I've been wondering why no
- 29:53Speaker 7: one in the media will ask. If Medicare for All
- 29:56Speaker 7: is so good, Why doesn't Al-Sayed's wife, who's a psychiatrist,
- 30:01Speaker 7: accept Medicaid patients into her practice?
- 30:05Speaker 1: Yeah, no, great point. But you know who benefits from
- 30:08Speaker 1: all of this? AOC was the crazy radical. Now, after
- 30:12Speaker 1: all these Al-Sayeds show up, she looks like Margaret Thatcher
- 30:16Speaker 1: compared to these people. This is going to help her
- 30:17Speaker 1: run in 2028 if she wants.
- 30:19Speaker 7: Yeah, but once a Once this kind of revolution gets
- 30:23Speaker 7: going here, you know, I mean, this is the pattern,
- 30:25Speaker 7: isn't it? They just keep eating their own.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:29Speaker 7: And they just associate, I mean, you know, if this
- 30:32Speaker 7: follows the pattern of, say, the French Revolution or the
- 30:35Speaker 7: Roman Republic going back to the death of Julius Caesar,
- 30:39Speaker 7: I mean, she's going to be taken out eventually, too, right?
- 30:42Speaker 1: That's a good point, because I don't think these Chuck Schumer,
- 30:45Speaker 1: Hakeem Jeffries, these types don't realize you can cater to
- 30:47Speaker 1: them and bow down to this DSA. But you're right.
- 30:51Speaker 1: That's the– every dictator, the first people they hang are
- 30:55Speaker 1: the leaders that we're trying to appease.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Leon Trotsky could tell you that story if he was
- 30:59Speaker 7: still around. How about what happened to Brad Lander the
- 31:01Speaker 7: other day? You know? He did their dirty work for them.
- 31:06Speaker 7: He was Kerensky, the white Russian for them. And then they–
- 31:12Speaker 7: And then Lenin and Stalin turned around, and they're going
- 31:14Speaker 7: to whack him. He's going to get whacked in the
- 31:16Speaker 7: next primary, right?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Well, it couldn't happen to a worse guy, so I
- 31:20Speaker 1: don't mind.
- 31:20Speaker 7: I know. I know. It's hard to shed any tears
- 31:23Speaker 7: for any of these people.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Well, Howie Carr, great. Hey, you should read Howie Carr's books.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I love Kennedy Babylon, the Kennedy books, the Whitey Bulger books.
- 31:32Speaker 1: But what's your latest book you got coming out?
- 31:34Speaker 7: Yeah, Mass Corruption Volume 2. I'm doing pre-orders now. We
- 31:40Speaker 7: just sent the final galleys over to the printer. It'll
- 31:43Speaker 7: be printed in October. It's about all the continuing corruption
- 31:47Speaker 7: in Massachusetts, which just never ends. And, you know, there
- 31:51Speaker 7: have already been new scandals since I finished writing it.
- 31:54Speaker 7: But you can order it now. Go to HowWeGarShow.com and
- 31:57Speaker 7: click on Store. And you can order Mass Corruption 2,
- 32:01Speaker 7: save $ 5, pre-order. It'll arrive in October.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I went to school in Boston. It
- 32:06Speaker 1: was a nice, wonderful New England place. I had no
- 32:09Speaker 1: idea what was going on until I read your book,
- 32:11Speaker 1: The Brothers Bulger and Mass Corruption. Who knew this stuff
- 32:14Speaker 1: was going on there behind the scenes?
- 32:17Speaker 7: You should see what's going on. We're breaking stories every
- 32:19Speaker 7: week about state police being arrested. The stuff they're doing
- 32:22Speaker 7: is just, it's horrible. When I was a kid, the
- 32:25Speaker 7: state police were incorruptible. Now they're anything but. And yeah,
- 32:30Speaker 7: I don't know. The state, it's... The city on the
- 32:34Speaker 7: hill is not what it used to be. The governor
- 32:38Speaker 7: went to it but not recognized it. Nor would Cotton matter.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Hey, if you want to keep up on all this,
- 32:44Speaker 1: just listen to Howie Carr every day. You can get
- 32:46Speaker 1: him on the iHeart app, iHeart Radio, Howie Carr's show,
- 32:50Speaker 1: Howie Carr's podcast. You can get his books. Just go
- 32:53Speaker 1: to his website. You can get everything there, HowieCarrShow.com, HowieCarrShow.com.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Great talking to you, Howie Carr. Thanks for being with us.
- 33:02Speaker 7: Thanks, Mark. Always a pleasure. Bye-bye.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Take care. Hey, don't forget the show is three hours now.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Nine to noon every day. Nine to noon every day.
- 33:11Speaker 1: So don't forget we start at nine o'clock now. And
- 33:14Speaker 1: then at noon, you got Buck and Clay. They do
- 33:16Speaker 1: a wonderful show every day, 12 noon. And you got
- 33:19Speaker 1: the most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity
- 33:22Speaker 1: at three. You got Jesse Kelly at six. Jimmy Fela
- 33:25Speaker 1: at maybe the funniest show on radio. It's right here.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Every night, 9 to midnight on 710WOR. Now, 9 till
- 33:34Speaker 1: noon weekdays.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Mark Simone.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Only on 710WOR. That's right. Three hours a day. Three
