- 0:00in this fostering faith episode and if you're listening
- 0:02to it when it drops we drop every Thursday at
- 0:055 in the morning because I am an early riser
- 0:09and in this episode it has it's just so funny
- 0:13because God just teaches you so much stuff if
- 0:16you just listen but if you're like me it just
- 0:19takes a long time for it to sink in and people
- 0:22tell you all the things and you just ignore them
- 0:25and then you have a moment where it just kind
- 0:28of all falls into place. And so in this episode,
- 0:32we're going to be calling it God's prescription
- 0:34time with him. And so, hey, friends, welcome
- 0:38back to Fostering Faith. I am so glad that you're
- 0:40here today. And I've got something to tell you
- 0:42that if I could write out the best prescription
- 0:46in the world, it would not come from Walgreens
- 0:48or CVS or even a specialty pharmacy. It would
- 0:54have unlimited refills, zero copay. No long pharmacy
- 0:59lines and absolutely no prior OSS. But also to
- 1:04the great part about this prescription is there
- 1:06is no side effects. And so you may be wondering,
- 1:09yes, sign me up. I want something to help me
- 1:12with all the problems and how to get through
- 1:16life and everything like that. And I'm here to
- 1:18say. Yes, this is the best prescription. And
- 1:22I will also say, absolutely, medications when
- 1:25possible, medications when applicable, because,
- 1:29I mean, there are medications out there for a
- 1:32reason. But we're going to be talking about today
- 1:35is time with him. And so what is the best prescription
- 1:40that you can actually that you can hand to somebody?
- 1:42And that's time with God. And so now let me pause
- 1:45because Know what you're thinking Tracy. I do
- 1:49spend time with God. I've prayed I've begged
- 1:51and my husband still cheated My kids still walked
- 1:54away and my health did not improve. My marriage
- 1:57didn't get better. My bank account didn't magically
- 1:59fill itself and You're right This is where we
- 2:05need to be real time with God isn't a magic pill
- 2:09it's not a genie in a bottle and When you say
- 2:13the right words three times poof everything gets
- 2:15better The prescription isn't about controlling
- 2:18your life's outcomes. It's about anchoring yourself
- 2:22in the one who doesn't change, even when everything
- 2:26around you does. And so we have Psalm 46 one
- 2:30that says God is our refuge and strength and
- 2:33ever present help and trouble. That verse doesn't
- 2:36say that he would prevent trouble. It says that
- 2:39he is present in it. And that's the prescription
- 2:43that we're going to be talking about today. We're
- 2:45going to be talking about how life can suck and
- 2:50how it is gonna happen, but we need to be with
- 2:55the ultimate physician. And so let's dive in.
- 2:57So we're gonna be talking about what it looks
- 2:59like to take this prescription daily in parenting,
- 3:03marriage, and when life leaves you torn to pieces.
- 3:09And if you read the prescription on the thing,
- 3:18It's the prescription label to read that you
- 3:21might just laugh at. So just kind of stick with
- 3:24me for that. And so let's talk about a parenting
- 3:27prescription. And so let's be honest. And let's
- 3:33go back. And so I want to say the reason why
- 3:35we're going to do this. Episode is because he
- 3:38just teaches me so much and so you've heard me
- 3:40Say many a times on here that I'm very fast -paced
- 3:42that I just want you know, I get things done
- 3:45I've made Comments on here about how I'm fast
- 3:49-paced my husband is slow -paced how my husband
- 3:51always says slow down slow down slow down I'm
- 3:53gonna tie your shoes together. Like, you know
- 3:55all the things and so I Think God will use people
- 3:59in your life to speak to you. We just have to
- 4:02be paying attention And so my whole life I have
- 4:07been told to slow down. It's, you know, even
- 4:09on grade cards, you know, whenever I was in,
- 4:11you know, kindergarten, it was like Tracy has
- 4:13to finish her work first. She has to be the first
- 4:14one done. And it's just kind of been my pace
- 4:19through life. And so I did go back to school.
- 4:23I am in seminary right now and I tried to have
- 4:27three classes in seminary and my advisor was
- 4:31like, no. Like you can't do that. Like you have
- 4:34a full -time job. And this is hard. This is like
- 4:37really critically thinking. And I'm just like,
- 4:40bruh, excuse me. My last master's class, I took
- 4:4417 hours, worked full -time, did didactic, did
- 4:48clinicals, did all the things and made straight
- 4:52A's. Like I can do this. Like you don't understand
- 4:54what's under this hood. Like I got this. I'm
- 4:57good. And she said, no, like you're not doing
- 4:59it. You can do two classes. and see how it goes.
- 5:03And so I was just like, huh. OK, OK. She's like,
- 5:08you know, we don't want you to rush through classes.
- 5:12We don't want you to just to get the work done.
- 5:14We want you to be transformed. We want you to
- 5:16sit with God and wrestle with him and and learn
- 5:20how to just be with him. And I was like, I'm
- 5:24with him every day like. I spend all day with
- 5:28this man and you want me to spend more time with
- 5:33him. Okay. And then so we get into class and
- 5:36the first assignment is over Acts 1 8. And so
- 5:42it is I'll just read it to you. And so Acts 1
- 5:458 is but you will receive power when the Holy
- 5:48Spirit has come upon you and you shall be my
- 5:51witness both in Jerusalem and all of Judea. in
- 5:54Samaria and as far as the remotest parts of the
- 5:57earth. And that's all the information that you
- 6:01have. You have no forward of the Bible. You have
- 6:04no back part of the Bible. That is the only piece
- 6:07of paper that you have, and you have to give
- 6:0825 observations over this. You cannot use a study
- 6:12Bible. It is just your word, the Bible, nothing
- 6:16else. You, God, the Holy Spirit, and that is
- 6:19it. And so you have to come up with 25 observations
- 6:24and that's all you have. And so what can you
- 6:28observe from that? You have no knowledge. You
- 6:29have no, you've never heard of Jesus. You have
- 6:32to be a completely blank slate and let him just
- 6:36illuminate it. And the professor was like, I
- 6:38know that you're going to get annoyed with this.
- 6:39I know that you're going to be frustrated with
- 6:41that. And that's fine. I need you to wrestle.
- 6:43I need you to wrestle with this and just spend
- 6:45time with him. And you're going to think that
- 6:47you can only come up with eight or nine and that
- 6:49is it. And you're just like, there's no other
- 6:51observations in this text. And this is it and
- 6:54all the things. And it really is just. So funny
- 6:59that it just time and time again, he's like,
- 7:02slow down, slow down, spend time with me, spend
- 7:05time with me. It's it's it's me. It's it's me
- 7:07that you want. And so. I just think it's just
- 7:11so good and so wonderful that he just does not
- 7:14give up on me or you or All the people that are
- 7:19hard -headed and don't listen and he's just such
- 7:22a good he's such a good father And so that's
- 7:26where kind of like I got this idea about just
- 7:29a prescription just time with him I mean because
- 7:32that's all you have sometimes is just you him
- 7:35and the Holy Spirit and so Let's get on with
- 7:39the podcast. And so we are going to be talking
- 7:41about parenting prescriptions And so let's be
- 7:44honest parenting is not for the faint of heart
- 7:46and sometimes it feels like you're hurting Like
- 7:50cats that have like rabies. I mean, it's just
- 7:52it's messy It's everywhere and you don't know
- 7:55what's going on and the cat may not even be nice
- 7:59and I and I don't like cats I'm super allergic
- 8:01to them and it's fine. I just Don't bring him
- 8:03around me. I'm talking about hormones and moods
- 8:06and iPhones and attitudes. And we have Proverbs
- 8:0922 .6 that says, train up a child in the way
- 8:12that they should go. And whenever he is old,
- 8:14he will not depart. That sounds great, right?
- 8:17But notice that it didn't say whenever he was
- 8:21young. It says that whenever he is old, which
- 8:24means there's a whole lot of messy middle when
- 8:27it looks like everything. That you've poured
- 8:31out into your kid is not sticking it is about
- 8:34Having this kid that you have raised for 15 years
- 8:38you grew you know inside your womb if you didn't
- 8:42adopt and it is How in the world that I love
- 8:46this child that has lost their mind and so you
- 8:49you know you're thinking that God I've prayed
- 8:52I have raised them in church. I have quoted scripture
- 8:54over them I have prayed I have anointed I have
- 8:57spoken in tongues over this child And now my
- 9:01son is vaping behind the school ground. My daughter
- 9:03is rolling her eyes at me so hard, I'm afraid
- 9:06that they're going to get stuck in the back of
- 9:08her head. And so it is about, can we talk about
- 9:12the prodigal son in Luke 15? He was raised in
- 9:16his father's house that he had love, he had provisions,
- 9:19he had blessing. And what does he do? He left.
- 9:24He squandered all of it. He hit rock bottom.
- 9:27And that's what his father didn't do. He didn't
- 9:31quit. He didn't give up. He didn't say, well,
- 9:34I guess you failed as a parent. No. The Bible
- 9:37says that he watched and waited. And when his
- 9:40son came home, he was ready with open arms. And
- 9:44so parents, that's a prescription. You can't
- 9:47control your kids choices. You can't force maturity.
- 9:51You can't skip them past the hard lessons. But
- 9:57you can stay faithful. You can pray. You can
- 10:00model what it looks like to walk with Jesus,
- 10:03even when your kids don't. And here's something
- 10:06practical. Pray out loud in front of them, and
- 10:09not like a fake, see how holy I am kind of way.
- 10:16It's the real, Lord, I do not know what I do
- 10:20here. Please give me wisdom. The kind like James
- 10:251 .5 says, If any of you lack wisdom, you should
- 10:29ask God who gives generously to call without
- 10:32finding fault. And so when teenagers slam the
- 10:36door, take prescriptions the right way and hear.
- 10:41Pray, breathe, and remember, this isn't about
- 10:46a quick fix. This is about long -term healing.
- 10:51Now, let me... Say something that I think is
- 10:55kind of funny. So taking time with God is as
- 10:59a parent It's like your vitamins. You don't always
- 11:03feel the difference immediately and please let
- 11:06me know I love some supplements But you skip
- 11:09a week and suddenly you're snapping at everybody
- 11:11in the drive -through line because your you forgot
- 11:14your fries Time with God is like that You may
- 11:19not notice the change in a day a week a month,
- 11:23but if you stick with it, it's over time. That's
- 11:29what makes the difference. And so let's move
- 11:34on to the prescription for marriage. And so,
- 11:37no, I'm not a marriage expert. No, I don't have
- 11:40a perfect marriage for you to go off of. I do
- 11:46have a marriage that has been a mess. We have
- 11:50been together for over half my life and we've
- 11:54been married for over 20 plus years. And so I
- 11:58don't have a perfect prescription, but what I
- 12:02do have is a God that's seen us struggle and
- 12:05put us back together. And so right now let's
- 12:07talk about marriage. And so because parenting
- 12:11is hard, marriage is even harder. And if that
- 12:15can feel like you're trying to sync two completely
- 12:18different operating systems together, Droid and
- 12:21iPhone. And so you're trying to squish these
- 12:24two people together. And now I just thought about
- 12:25that. We really are. I have an iPhone and my
- 12:27husband still has a Droid. And my dislike for
- 12:34Apple and my love for Droid is just, it's just
- 12:40something else. But that's for another episode.
- 12:44So maybe you're listening right now and your
- 12:46husband doesn't even want to go to church. You're
- 12:49dragging your kids on Sunday morning He's still
- 12:52in bed and you're thinking God Why am I carrying
- 12:56this alone or maybe you've prayed and he's still
- 12:59cheated or she's still cheated or you know, there
- 13:03is No romance left in your rope your your life.
- 13:08I mean What what is romance? Like what like what
- 13:11is that? Like I don't even know what that is.
- 13:13And so It fizzled out. It was left beside the
- 13:17laundry, the bills, the arguments. And let's
- 13:20just say it. It is hard work. Prayer does not
- 13:26override free will. People still make choices
- 13:30and sometimes devastating choices. But here's
- 13:34a prescription in Isaiah fifty four five, and
- 13:37it says your maker is your husband, the Almighty.
- 13:42is His name. Meaning, even when your earthly
- 13:47marriage feels shaky, your covenant with God
- 13:50is unshakable. And you have John 15 .5 that says,
- 13:55I am the vine and you are the branches. If you
- 13:57remain in me and I in you, you will bear much
- 14:01fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing. And
- 14:06that verse isn't just for ministry, it's for
- 14:11marriage. You can't bear fruit by yourself. You
- 14:15can't fix your spouse, but you can abide. You
- 14:20can stay connected to the vine. And let me just,
- 14:24okay, so let's just say it kind of more practical.
- 14:28And so stop trying to be the Holy Spirit for
- 14:31your husband. That's not your job. And it's not
- 14:33your job, even if you're a male listening to
- 14:35this. You're not your wife's Holy Spirit. That's
- 14:39not your role. Your role is to abide in Christ,
- 14:44love with patience, and trust God with the rest.
- 14:50And so that doesn't mean tolerate abuse or betrayal.
- 14:53Absolutely not. That's not what we're saying.
- 14:55Boundaries are biblical. But it does mean you
- 14:59anchor yourself in God's love first, because
- 15:02that's the only love that will never fail. And
- 15:07so a marriage prescription, Label which should
- 15:10read caution May increase patience towards husband
- 15:15who leaves socks on the floor does not substitute
- 15:19nagging for prayer It reduces effectiveness and
- 15:23results may vary consult the greater physician
- 15:26for clarity And so friends marriage is messy,
- 15:30but God's prescription isn't about a perfect
- 15:33spouse It's about the perfect presence his presence
- 15:39So as you guys are going through rough times
- 15:41it's about having that open honest communication
- 15:43and it takes two people to make a marriage and
- 15:47It's about you going to counseling it may be
- 15:48him going to counseling. It's about you guys
- 15:51coming together But no your job is not to fix
- 15:54your spouse. Your job is not to fix his heart
- 15:57It's about you being that person at four o 'clock
- 16:00on your knees praying for your husband praying
- 16:02for your kid praying for Your your wife your
- 16:06wayward kids And it's about that connection because
- 16:09you're never going to change someone's heart.
- 16:10That is your father's job. That is God's job.
- 16:13Quit trying to take his job. You're not qualified
- 16:16for it. You never will be. So stop doing it.
- 16:19And so what happens whenever you feel torn? Let's
- 16:23talk about the moments where it's not just one
- 16:27thing. It's everything. It's your kids. It's
- 16:29your marriage. It's your job. It's your bills.
- 16:31It's your emotions. You're torn in 10 different
- 16:34directions and you don't even know What to pray
- 16:38you're just like you have so many things and
- 16:40you don't even know where to begin But you have
- 16:43Jesus that said in John 16 33 it says in this
- 16:47world you will have trouble but take heart I
- 16:50have overcome the world Notice he didn't say
- 16:53follow me and you'll avoid trouble. He said trouble
- 16:56is guaranteed but so is My victory and so we
- 17:01just had this discussion today And so I was talking
- 17:05with a friend and she's had all the things and
- 17:09she was baptized and she just felt like her life
- 17:12fell apart. And I'm like, duh, because you just
- 17:15gave your life to Christ. What literally happened
- 17:17in scripture? You know, Jesus was baptized. He
- 17:21wouldn't spend 40 days in the wilderness with
- 17:23Satan. He literally says in scripture, trouble
- 17:27is going to come. Why do we act surprised when
- 17:30it does? He already told us that that's what
- 17:33was going to happen. And so I just, you know,
- 17:37I laughed kind of at her and, you know, in a
- 17:39loving way because we knew that this was going
- 17:42to happen. You gave your life to Christ. It is
- 17:45not cupcakes and rainbows. It is about we know
- 17:48that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
- 17:52We know that he's not giving up on us. We know
- 17:53that he is faithful. We know that he has died
- 17:56on the cross. for us and that death is defeated
- 18:00and that we have the ability to stop on the enemy's
- 18:05head with our heels. We're going to crush him
- 18:07and we get upset whenever trouble comes our way.
- 18:11Why? It's not because we didn't know. It's because
- 18:14we didn't time in scripture. We didn't spend
- 18:15time with him to know that. And so we know that
- 18:17trouble is going to come. And so it's not about
- 18:21erasing the storm. It's not about any of that.
- 18:24It's about being anchored. In it and so you have
- 18:27Philippians 4 7 through 6 that says do not be
- 18:30anxious for anything but in every situation by
- 18:32prayer petition with Thanksgiving Present your
- 18:36request to God and the peace of God which surpasses
- 18:39all understanding will guard your heart and your
- 18:41mind in Jesus Christ That peace doesn't come
- 18:44with an instant result It is not insta pot, but
- 18:48it does come with an unshakable presence And
- 18:51here's here's the practical part of it making
- 18:54time with God is as ordinary as brushing your
- 18:58teeth, five minutes in the car before work, worship
- 19:01music while you're folding laundry, reading Psalms
- 19:04before you go to bed. It's little doses, micro
- 19:08-dosing. Everyone's talking about micro -dosing.
- 19:10Micro -dosing, you know, the new DLP's and like
- 19:13all this other stuff. I mean, so little micro
- 19:16doses of Jesus, he did not say that you have
- 19:19to spend 30 minutes with me, 20 minutes with
- 19:22me, and you have to do this, and you've got to
- 19:24do this, and you've got to do that. Keep it simple,
- 19:27Saint. Talk to Him all throughout the day. He's
- 19:30with you. Pray in the morning, pray at lunch,
- 19:34pray in the evening. Have a Bible verse on your
- 19:37phone, and that way you can memorize it. And
- 19:41so these prescriptions, yes, you know, they are
- 19:45real. That they are going to help you get through
- 19:49these things. But in that same instance, we're
- 19:53gonna land, you know, and so sometimes whenever
- 19:55you pray that your husband is is better People
- 20:00are gonna do What they can I mean they have free
- 20:05will and so let's land it here And so sometimes
- 20:08you will pray and your husband or wife was gonna
- 20:10cheat Sometimes you pray and your kids will still
- 20:13wonder Sometimes you pray and the illness won't
- 20:16go away. That's real But God's prescription was
- 20:21never about guaranteeing outcomes. It's about
- 20:24guaranteeing his presence. Psalm 34 18 that says
- 20:29the Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves
- 20:31those who are crushed in spirit. And that's the
- 20:35promise. Not that everyone gets fixed, but that
- 20:39you are never alone in the breaking. And today.
- 20:44Fill the prescription. Take it with coffee. Take
- 20:47it with tears. Take it with laughter, but take
- 20:51it. Take the prescription, take it again tomorrow,
- 20:56and the next day, and the next day, and the next
- 21:00day. Because with him, you'll never run out of
- 21:04refills. And so we hope this message encouraged
- 21:07you, and we could go into prescriptions. for
- 21:12every one of these in so much more detail. And
- 21:14so if you guys want a deeper podcast, please
- 21:18leave comments, write them down below, send us

- 21:28would love to pray for you. And so dear Heavenly
- 21:30Father, thank you so much for these listeners.
- 21:32Thank you so much that you have allowed us your
- 21:35presence in the midst of. What we have no idea
- 21:39what is going on. Thank you for children that
- 21:42are not what we thought that they would be because
- 21:46you are going to mold them and you're going to
- 21:47shape them and you're going to have a greater
- 21:49testimony because we want your will for our marriage.
- 21:52We want your will for our children because they
- 21:55are your sons and they're your daughters. Thank
- 21:57you for the prescription just to be in your presence.
- 22:01Thank you that you've never left us. Thank you
- 22:02that you've never forsaken us. Thank you that
- 22:03you are such a good. Father, thank you that you
- 22:06have been the best husband. Thank you for all
- 22:08that you do. In Jesus' name I pray, amen. And
- 22:12so if this message encouraged you, send it to
- 22:14somebody, share it, like it, put some comments
- 22:16down there. Until next time, have an amazing
- 22:18week and we love you guys.
